Applications Two

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED!
The next application opening date is Friday 16th January, 7pm EST.
The next application processing date is Friday 23rd January, 7pm EST.

IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE

We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.

We now have a test drive community at [community profile] haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.

While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

Personality:

Since his creation, the archangel Michael has always done as his father bid him to. From the smallest of commands, to those that required him to bring death to every human on Earth, he never refused. At first, he was being a good son, the best son, the right hand of God, and it was his duty to obey his father. But, while carrying out the orders that he never once thought to rebel against, he found the blood and violence to be intoxicating. There was a sliver of darkness deep inside him, and the battle, the murder, touched it and he reveled in the sensations. Michael always assumed that it was what his father truly wanted him to do, not realizing until it was much too late, that it was a parent testing their child’s character; and that his father found him lacking.

When the archangel loses himself to the blackness inside him, people get hurt, and he becomes the flood mentioned in the bible, wiping out everything in his path. The archangel had almost destroyed the human race, and his brother and sister nearly kill him in an attempt to stop him, the pair saving a young boy from Michael’s sword. Lying in a field, soon to take his last breaths, the boy he was going to slay gives him water and helps him recover. The child showed him through kindness and forgiveness, that doing what’s right isn't easy, but it’s, well, the right thing to do. The experience changed him, heart and soul, and Michael realized that his father was in fact testing him with his gruesome commands. Now, wanting to do what is right, no matter the difficulty, the archangel strives to control his emotions, to push away the darkness and finds himself overwhelmed with guilt when he makes the wrong choice or hurts someone.

Michael grips his emotions tight, and shoves them as far down inside himself as he can. And he does a horrible job at it. That control that he strives for, and often fails to have, is what keeps him sane. If he reverts back to the way he was, he will have failed his father and himself. His absolution is incumbent on the fact that he never becomes what he was, that he considers what is right and what is wrong, and does everything in his power to make the correct decision.

He’s typically stoic, expression a carefully placed mask of disinterest or unamused grimace, to keep himself from becoming too emotionally involved. That inability to control his emotions is what steers him away from feeling the lighter side like love and affection, wanting to keep from becoming attached to others. Michael doesn’t want to fall in love or care for anyone in specific, but he’s helpless to stop those emotions, and he’s shown to be more forceful and aggressive with those that he cares about. He’s harder on them, expects more from them, and generally, has a more difficult time with his emotions when they are involved.

Michael finds that he returns again and again to the arms of the same woman, unable to stop himself from seeing her. He tries to push her away, tells her it is for her own good, but it’s really his way of protecting himself. If he openly admits to loving her, it makes him vulnerable, weak, and under the right circumstances, it would be a doorway for someone to break open his carefully placed dam, letting the flood come spilling out again.

Another side of his nature is that he’s polite when he needs to be, kind even, and has a deep rooted love for humans. Even when he was a murderous tidal wave, washing death over the Earth, he still loved them. They were his father’s creation, his other children, and Michael’s other siblings. His affection for them did not diminish when he was asked to take out the human race, nor did it decrease when he found pleasure in the egregious acts he committed. It’s a striking contrast to what he’s done in his past, and a conflicting point in his character that he so loves the humans, but has previously killed them at his father’s behest. The love of his father, and his bloodlust, had won out over the love for the humans, until he was shown a new way. A light was shone on his darkness, and Michael could now clearly see what he was and what he needed to become.

When he rebelled against his father’s wishes, and became mankind’s only protector, he saw it as his redemption. Saving the humans, which would bestow upon him the ultimate forgiveness for his sins, has become his most ardent motivation for everything he does. If he can save them, change their fate, he can make up for the horrendous acts he’d once imposed upon them.
