Applications Two

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED!
The next application opening date is Friday 16th January, 7pm EST.
The next application processing date is Friday 23rd January, 7pm EST.
IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE
We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.
In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.
You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.
Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.
If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.
Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.
We now have a test drive community athaventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.
While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.
To see what we are looking for:

Re: Serara | Log Horizon | Reserved 2/3
Serara is a shy, conflict-avoiding teenager, whose appearance and behaviour make her appear younger than the teenage years of 15-16 she actually is. She has a cute, round face with big eyes, and tends to look up to the adult players for guidance and instruction, much like an unsure child. Even her class and subclass belie her peaceful and helping nature, as she chose the healer class Druid and subclass Housekeeper. Later on, in her party of five, she becomes the one who tries to stop in-fighting, more evidence of her conflict-avoiding nature. Finally, her goal when joining Elder Tale had been to become a shopkeeper, so she had no intention of participating in the battling and fighting that are a huge part of MMOs. It's not to say she's completely adverse to fighting to the point that she refuses to participate; she just prefers not to fight if it's not necessary.
When she's first introduced in the series, she's being chased by the ruthless and rowdy guild Brigandia, who wanted to make her their servant or sell her to slavery. For this to happen right after being sent into an unknown world without anyone to help was a nightmare to the meek girl. However, she's rescued by Nyanta, a middle-aged, polite and gentlemanly were-cat player. He lets her stay in his house, which protects her from the guild chasing her, until she's rescued by Shiroe and his party. His rescuing her and his kind and polite personality causes Serara to develop a massive crush on him, and from then on she looks to Nyanta for guidance, approval and motivation. It wouldn't be an understatement to say that Nyanta occupies Serara's thoughts over 75% of the time.
This crush is rather obvious to anyone who interacts with Serara while she's next to Nyanta. She's very expressive, making a wide assortment of faces and expressions while she's thinking to herself. This expressiveness extends to her other emotions as well, as she doesn't make much effort to hide when she's worried or happy, or relieved. She has yet to encounter a reason to hide her emotions, and she's probably unaware that she's that obvious to read, so she doesn't make any attempt to school her expressions. To accompany her expressiveness, she has a rather active imagination. When she doesn't have a task that needs to be focused on, she has a tendency to think and daydream to herself, such as when she imagined she was not a housekeeper, but "a housewife waiting for her cat-husband to come home" in Susukino. She also thought about how Nyanta was a "bichuunen" and how she was kind of fat in comparison, while she was eating dinner next to him.
Due to her helpful nature, Serara is the type that always likes to be doing something. If there is nothing to do, she finds something to do even if it's rather mundane. When she was hiding in Nyanta's house in Susukino, she wound up cleaning Nyanta's house so many times that the house sparkled and she became Level 44 in her Housekeeper subclass. While subclasses don't require the same amount of EXP as the main classes do, it's still an impressive number. Even when she's rescued and a party is held in her name back in Akihabara, she goes around serving drinks and food to her fellow guild mates instead of relaxing and enjoying the party. She also tends to become dismayed when what she's doing isn't helping at all. At her low level of 19 in Susukino, her healing spells had barely done anything to the Level 90 players she was healing, and she had been rather upset by that.
Serara also has a strong sense of responsibility, which pairs well with her helpful nature. Even when she wanted nothing more than to leave the Moon Crescent Alliance to join Log Horizon and be with Nyanta and the rest of her party, she chose to stay in her current guild, as she had the responsibility of guiding the newbie players rescued from Hamelin. During the battle for Choushi against the goblins and sahuagins, she agreed with Minori and the party members who wanted to protect the Lander town from danger. Unlike Adventurers, Landers were mostly low leveled and defenseless. Since her party had the power, they should go protect the town even there was a high chance of death in the process. If there is something she must and can do that will help others, then she's willing to do it even if it means doing something she doesn't want to do. So in total, Serara is a shy but helpful, expressive and imaginative girl. If something needs to be done and she can do it, she will even if she has to sacrifice what she really wants for it.
Abilities/Powers:
Log Horizon takes place in a MMO-esque world, where all characters have classes, stats, skills and abilities, etc. Serara is a level 25 Druid at her canon point. Since the level cap is 100, this means she’s rather weak compared to many other characters in the world of Log Horizon, and would be considered a newbie, as she still receives the EXP Pots designed to allow newbies to level faster to enjoy the game.
The druid specializes in Heal over Time moves, but can also use defensive and offensive magic spells, and can control the forest. Their weakness is that the spells tend to take a large chunk of MP, so druids need to watch their MP consumption. Each class can also further specialize in different ways to reflect the type of fighter the player wants to be. Serara uses a Witch Doctor build, which is classified as a Recovery Support type. This means she focuses mainly on healing rather than attack.
A full list of druid abilities is here. Since she’s a low-leveled Druid, she doesn’t have full access to all the spells listed on the wiki. The ones she’s been shown to use are listed below:
Heal: Your standard healing spell. It’s a basic move for any healing/support type class, so it heals at a rather slow rate.
Healing Wind: A longer lasting healing spell, it’s still one of the more basic healing moves and therefore does not heal much.
Heartbeat Healing: A regeneration spell that regenerates the target’s HP every second for 15 seconds.
Nature Revive: A resurrection spell that has a long casting time, consumes a lot of MP and has a cool down time of 300 seconds. It’s not very useful on the battlefield. It also has a strong heal over time effect, so larger wounds can be healed by this move. In terms of Haven, this revival spell should work to allow anyone who’s knocked out to regain consciousness. As well, if the body has not sustained severely debilitating injuries like, say, their head got chopped off, I believe the revival spell should actually be able to revive them. If there’s an issue with this, please let me know!
Dismissal: An attack spell. It seems to be an anime only spell since it’s not listed on the wiki, and I really have no idea what it does. Probably produces a wave of energy within the immediate vicinity of caster to damage extremely close enemies.
Shrieker Echo: A spell that activates and lets out a sharp shriek that can be heard for miles if an enemy steps into its range. It’s excellent as an early warning system.
Summoning: Druids can summon a number of familiars to attack enemies. Serara has summoned a cute wolf that acts kind of like a homing missile… really.
Bug’s Light: A strong light spell. This spell actually summons a firefly-like familiar, and the intensity of the light can’t be controlled.
Willow Spirits: A binding spell. Vines shoot out of the ground and wrap around the targeted enemy. This spell can’t be used when there are no plants within the vicinity.
Those in the world of Log Horizon also have access to a status menu and status boxes, where they can watch allies’ and enemies HP and check cool down time for their own spells. Adventurers are all granted a physical boost so that attacks that would normally sting a lot don’t actually hurt very much, and even death doesn’t hurt a lot. They are also capable of communicating telepathically to anyone on their friend list (which has a cap of 1000 friends.) and can access a cooking and crafting menu to quickly make complicated dishes and items. The downside with the cooking menu is that food produced through its use is completely tasteless, regardless of how appetizing it may look.
In Haven, the menu will be scrambled such that all written elements are erased or replaced with pictures where possible. This means Serara will be unable to see a person’s name, level, sub-class, guild, and exact HP and MP levels. She will be able to see the class of a character, represented by the class icon. (I’m planning on using permissions to let others determine what class they may be seen as. It has no real effect on anything except giving Serara a general idea of the other person’s capabitilies (front line fighter vs back line healer) If I don’t get permission it will appear obscured to Serara.) The friend list will not work, as all friends will appear offline and she will not be able to add anyone onto the list, meaning she will be unable to communicate to anyone telepathically. She will still be able to use the cooking and crafting menus, but since her sub-class is housekeeper, the number of items she can produce with those menus are so low it’s pretty much irrelevant. Her inventory will be inaccessible, as well her equipment screen.
She should be able to form a party for combat purposes, but it doesn’t grant much except to allow her to check on her party’s full stats... which really isn’t that much in Haven haha… In battle Serara will be able to see the amount of HP her party members have relative to their total HP by looking at their HP bars, as well as the status effects afflicted on them. MP bars will be obscured to her. Everything else mentioned previously will continue to be obscured to her.
Items/Weapons:
Oak Wand: A wand which all Druids begin with. Although it contains no special effects, it is very sturdy. It is strong enough for a first time adventurer to use as self defense.
Walnut Brooch: A simple brooch made of a walnut. Increases defense slightly when worn by a Druid. Males often use it to fasten their mantles, while females use it to fasten their capes.
Broom: The broom from her Cleaning set. In Log Horizon the Cleaning Set qualifies as one item, but actually consists of more than four items, so I’m giving her just the broom.
