Applications Two

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED!
The next application opening date is Friday 16th January, 7pm EST.
The next application processing date is Friday 23rd January, 7pm EST.
IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE
We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.
In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.
You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.
Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.
If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.
Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.
We now have a test drive community athaventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.
While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

Personality:
There is a lot to be said about a man who works to prevent death on one hand and yet will go to the extent of shooting the zombie of a former acquaintance. Leon Kennedy has seen far more than most others his age and the results of his experience show in his demeanor. After his first day as a policeman at Raccoon City devolving into nothing short of a nightmare, the previously congenial and overall positive rookie has transformed into a serious government agent. He still retains an innate desire to help others and protect those in need, but his view point on survival and consequences have developed dramatically due to the dangers he faced and the lives lost in the t-virus outbreak. Unlike his attitude during his first day as a rookie, Leon's current attitude is more honed and, some might say, jaded by his experiences. He shows far less emotion in the face of danger, and even when expressing more positive feelings. He also concentrates very hard on preventing more tragedies by taking out terrorists before others can be sacrificed. While he is noted for sarcastic remarks and occasional jokes, he mostly reserves his real emotions for those he trusts deeply, and those people are few in number. After killing many fellow officers turned into zombies by the t-virus and repeated betrayal by comrades, Leon is reluctant to confide in others and keeps his feelings guarded to protect his main priority of preserving life. He does make exceptions, particularly for the Redfields and those who were his comrades in putting down the Umbrella Corporation.
When it comes to confidantes, Leon is quick to defend—and even befriend—but slow to trust. He believes in the virtue of working with others and helping those around him, but rarely goes into depth about his own feelings or personal life. He easily befriends Luis Sera in Resident Evil 4, and works with Angela and Greg without too much complaint in Degeneration. However, he never shows any excessive warmth to any of them, and in the case of Greg, gets frustrated when the man won't listen to him—enough to strike him in order to get things done. However, he'll defend any of them without hesitation, and is extremely distraught when he loses Luis, despite having only met him hours earlier.
It should be noted that Leon keeps some distance from others as far as personal relationships go, and has been intentionally single since the Raccoon City incident. Despite showing interest in Ada Wong and flirting with Ingrid Hunnigan, he does not pursue any close relationships seriously, and focuses most of his time running from one mission to the next. Raccoon City left a deep impact on him, and he repeatedly references it during various mission, unable to completely let go of the trauma of his past. Despite being a competent agent, Leon does suffer from some survivor's guilt. He describes the date he arrived in Raccoon City as a day he'll never forget, and seven years later is still throwing himself head-first into the job, determined to rid the world of Umbrella's influences, even after the company itself is taken down. Instead of pushing it away, Leon seems to routinely return to that night, and references it off and on in conversations. It's a battle he is still fighting, at least internally, and one he can't consider finished until he has seen that everyone is really safe.
But, with all this in mind, Leon is a steadfast and dependable government operative willing to work with his team. He acts reserved, but he actually cares very deeply for people. He trusts his comrades to hold their own and depends on them—particularly those who have experienced the same trials he has. He also still has some of the boyish idealism he had as a rookie cop on his first day. He wants to believe in the best of other people, and his actions are based on that belief. This tends to turn out to be a weakness, as he finds himself surprised by betrayal (such as in the case of Jack Krauser) or caught by the pivotal decision of how to react with a rival (as repeatedly occurs when dealing with Ada Wong). However, he still has solid judgment, and the safety of innocents always comes before his own heart. A brave and dependable guy with a strong desire to help others, Leon Kennedy is a troubled, but ultimately determined and just person.
Abilities/Powers: Leon is a normal human with exceptional training. He is a class A marksman, noted by the police academy that he attended initially and the US government. He picks up weapons easily, able to use a grenade launcher and handle train controls within hours of first learning them. He's athletic, and has decent parkour and gymnastic abilities as well as decent hand-to-hand and knife-fighting skills. He isn't superhuman in any way, but he can take hits from literal monsters. He's fought creatures with enhanced strength and agility, giving him more than average survival abilities and combat expertise. He has been trained in martial arts at a government agent level, so he's capable against groups and thinking on his feet.

Sample Entry:
Well, this is just great.
[The voice on the phone sounds dry. Leon is half talking to himself, but he speaks louder on the next part.]
Is this thing even working? Hey, you. Yeah, whoever's on this line. Come in.
My name is Leon Kennedy. I'm trying to get in touch with anyone from the United States government. Don't suppose any of you want to help a guy out?
[Should he wait for an answer? Leon isn't sure he even trusts this line. It's not his device; he doesn't know who it connects to.]
Don't worry. I'm here to help... I just need some information first. Work with me, and I'll do what I can to get this figured out. So much for getting that vacation. So, where is this place, anyway?
Sample Entry Two:
Subways. Of course there would be reports about the subways. Leon would have been surprised if the city had somehow managed to keep things out of their dark, sprawling tunnels. At least there weren't any entrances leading to old sewer lines as far as he could tell. But experience had also taught him that those secret pathways tended to lead to answers, so of course he had to explore them for himself. Against his better judgment (and warning from several local voices), he went. He was armed, so if anything did show up, he would be able to handle it. This wasn't his first walk into the dark--
Leon felt the ground tremble before he heard it. The shifting was under his feet, and he had to stagger back to get his footing as the shivering turned into real rumbling. He thought for a minute that the tunnel might be collapsing in on him, and that was when the large, rounded head burst through the side of the tunnel wall in front of him.
“You're kidding.” His gun was out before he had gotten five steps along, but Leon was sprinting down the tunnel in the opposite direction of the thing that looked at first glance like a centipede. If centipedes came in subway train size. He only had a few magazines, and judging by the thick exoskeleton covering its body, he wasn't sure those would do him any good. Maybe it hadn't been a great idea to come down to the tunnels alone.
“They could have been more specific about what they meant by monsters,” he snapped to no one in particular. He wasn't sure if he was following the line back the right way or not anymore. The hundred giant legs were digging along the tunnel behind him, so he didn't have time to stop and get a good look at where he was heading in order to keep out of reach of his new friend's mandibles. With his luck, he was probably getting even more lost. “Great job, Kennedy. Next time, maybe you should stay out of the areas they tell you are dangerous.”
He dove around a bend in the tunnel, turning to fire a few shots at the pursuing insect, and at least was gratified to see that it balked away from the impact. It was not enough to completely stop it, but he had managed to slow it down. Now, maybe if he were really lucky, someone would hear those shots and come with back up. Explosives or an actual subway train right now would be a godsend. But Leon was rarely lucky.
“At least you didn't come with friends,” he grumbled. “Okay, let's hope that I can at least get reception down here and call for help.”
-> REVISE
The reason for this is that we feel the one provided does not give enough insight into Leon's personality for us to adequately judge it.
We apologize for the inconvenience. You have one week to reply to these revisions. Thank you.
REVISIONS
[audio]
Okay, does someone want to tell me what's going on here?
[It feels like the weirder things have gotten over the years, the more Leon has graduated from That Guy No One Listens To to The Guy No One Tells Anything. He remains pretty calm, but he can't stop a little of the exasperation from bleeding into his voice.]
Don't all speak up at once.
[Is the device even connected? He pauses to confirm that it's on, then realizes that maybe being abrasive isn't the best way to get answers. Leon takes a breath and lets it out, sighing as he starts again.]
Look, I don't know who you are, but I've got business I need to get back to. It's important. I don't have time to play games.
[His tone becomes more serious; weighted by tension. While the mission is technically over, he still needs to know everything is okay. China wasn't in the best condition, and there's the mess he left back home to worry about. He's still a little tense. And seeing as he has no idea where he is now or what is going on, it looks like it'll be another mess he has to get himself out of. Luckily no one can see him roll his eyes.]
Nice place you got here. Real friendly.
[And a link to a post here as well.]
