Applications Two

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED!
The next application opening date is Friday 16th January, 7pm EST.
The next application processing date is Friday 23rd January, 7pm EST.
IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE
We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.
In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.
You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.
Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.
If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.
Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.
We now have a test drive community athaventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.
While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

Because her mutation is so closely tied to the state of her emotions, Ororo is the epitome of calm, composed and collected. She is reserved, doing her best not to let her emotions (and by extent, her powers) get the better of her. Her ability to manipulate the weather makes her a fearsome opponent indeed – that she possesses such great control over it is testament to the rein she has over her emotions. It takes quite a bit to get under her skin, but once she gets angry, she really gets angry. For her to lose her temper or be forced into a truly scary situation would equate to flashes of lightning or even a violent thunderstorm. But Ororo knows the importance of self-control, especially with powers as potentially destructive as hers. As a result, her control over her emotions, powers and her own mind are all extremely important to her.
Her hard-learned control over her powers came hand in hand with learning how to contain herself and her emotions. But by the same token, her mutation has led to some degree of emotional repression. While certainly not completely repressed, she has still had to keep herself from acting out on extreme emotions. As a result, she was deemed a little distant to her teammates and friends. Containing her emotions isn't always easy - and when her temper gets the better of her, it can have largely dramatic effect, often potentially quite destructive, which makes keeping extreme emotions like joy or anger or grief all the more important. She's since gotten better at expressing herself and embracing her feelings over the years, and especially since meeting her friend Yukio, as well as the temporary loss of her powers, but all the same, she does prefer a degree of solitude and self-control. Probably the best modern example of how her powers and extreme emotion are tied together is how, upon learning of Wolverine's death, she made Beast take her up into orbit so she could mourn in a way that wouldn't hurt anyone on Earth, and ended up causing a planet-wide solar storm that manifested itself in the form of an Aurora Borealis.
Storm is also famous for her strong mind and will, with some writers going so far as to say she is indomitable. While not impervious to mind-control, she's often depicted as being tough to overpower or possess (which sadly leads to more than one supervillain taking that as a deciding factor in making her their queen. #StormProblems) Charles Xavier has said that even maintaining a telepathic link with her can be difficult because of the constant static field she apparently has in her mind, one that only strengthens with the use of her powers.
So, it can be said that Storm is proud and more than confident of herself and of her abilities. But by no means is she arrogant (... well, maybe a little.) She carries herself like a queen would, but at the same time, she has no problem letting others take control (as long as she deems them worthy leaders.) She also has a very strong protective instinct - she's constantly looking out for her fellow X-Men, and especially the younger students. She's perceptive enough to able to tell when something bothers them, and is quick to offer help and advice should they need it.
And yet...! Storm is also one of the most dangerous X-Men to cross. It takes quite a bit to make her angry, but once her patience is stretched thin, and especially if her family has been threatened (she is very protective of the people she loves. see: never ever threaten kitty pryde in her presence), or if she has been telepathically violated (she has Issues with people taking over her mind. see: that time emma frost tampered with her mind), it would be wise to run for the next country. Not only will she not think twice about dropping a hurricane on her enemies, Ororo has proved herself a formidable opponent even in hand-to-hand combat. She challenges Scott's leadership and for the right to lead the X-Men when she deems him unfit to lead (it turns out he was possessed but w/e), and bests him in combat even while she was completely depowered.
In spite of this, there is no questioning that Ororo is kind and compassionate. She's long been known as one of the "nicest" X-Men and has made several lasting friendships with her fellow teammates over the years. She is kind and compassionate and nurturing - when she isn't offering a words of encouragement to her fellow X-Men, she can be found in the greenhouse or in the garden among her beloved plants, giving them their own personal rainshowers. Ororo has a healthy respect for all forms of life - knowing that despite the destructive nature of a storm, violence is not all that it is good for, and that it can be used for life as well. The whole reason she's on the X-Men at all is because Professor Xavier had convinced her that she could do so much good for so many more people than just the tribes in Central Africa who prayed to her for a good harvest. In that respect, Storm is self-aware and is one of those X-Men who truly have the heart and conviction and determination to fight and defend the oppressed.
That said, Storm is a natural leader. She knows how to take command of a team and of a situation. She has been one of the X-Men's longest go-to's for field leaders. She led the team back when Cyclops first stepped down in the 80s and has consistently been a regular leader of the X-Men over the years. She has much of the team's respect - even the flighty, testy Wolverine's - due to her strategic mind and ability to make hard decisions in tight situations. But at the same time, she knows when to step back and let others handle things should a situation call for it. She led the X-Men when she was without powers, but eventually she realized that she was better off with them than without, and so relinquished leadership to Logan while she looked for a way to re-power herself.
At the end of the day, Storm believes in Charles Xavier's cause. Does that make her a bit of an idealist, and a self-righteous one at that?
Perhaps.Yes, it does, and she's been called out on it before. She has a penchant for taking on responsibilities she does not need to, but does so anyway because it is the right thing. And if no one else will do it, then she is more than willing to take on the job herself. Being a mutant in the Marvel Universe is difficult - they are constantly exposed to the prejudice and bigotry of humans - things that she, as a black (arguably queer) woman, has already faced practically all her life - even before she started to fight for Xavier's Dream. But she has faith that Charles Xavier’s dream of humans and mutants living in harmony can one day be realized. It may not happen in the near future, but she does what she can to help that future become a reality - if not for herself, then definitely for the students and the mutants of the generations to come. In the meantime, she encourages them to develop their powers and teaches them how to use their mutations to help people, and for them to show and prove to humans that they are not to be feared.
