Applications Three

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED!
RESERVATIONS ARE OPENED!
NOTE: APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED OR PROCESSED FOR APRIL, DUE TO A CURRENT DISCUSSION ON THE GAME'S FUTURE.
RESERVATIONS WILL REMAIN OPEN FOR A LONGER PERIOD.
MAY APPLICATION CYCLE WILL BE POSTED HERE AS SOON AS IT IS DETERMINED.
We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.
In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.
You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.
Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.
If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.
Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.
We now have a test drive community athaventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.
While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.
To see what we are looking for:

... and then I noticed I misspelled violent. So so sorry for the *extra* revisions. /)_(\
To the average person, Lacie can generally come off as a bit of a hurricane. She waltzes into people's lives, makes things... interesting for a while, then waltzes right back out. Despite the fact that she's the sort of person who tries to live to the bone (owing to the fact that she knew her life would be short) she also has a tendency toward emotional distance, even with the people that she likes. She's good at covering it. She can appear to be warm and engaging (if a little intimidating), but at the end of the day, even when she has killed for your sake and called you her favorite, she can let you go again without a backward glance.
This emotional distance is caused in part by the fact that she's been an outcast her entire life, reviled and dehumanized by society because of something as stupid and superficial as the color of her eyes. (The thing that saves her from self-loathing is that she's smart enough to realize that it's a stupid, superficial reason. She's perceptive, very much the sort of person who sees things just the way they are. It's kind of a defense mechanism, much the same as her emotional distance is.) She largely treats people the way she has to treat life. Something to be grasped, enjoyed, and then let go of.
Her kind streak (which is kind of remarkable in its existence, given her life) springs largely from an empathy she feels with others who are, like herself, on the edges of society for one reason or another. On the other hand, she's pretty rubbish at recognizing her own emotions. For example, from the moment she encounters the being at the Core of the Abyss, she recognizes its loneliness. However, it takes her up until a day or two before she dies to recognize how lonely she's been, herself.
She's bad at reading her own emotions because she bottles them. About the only ones she always understands are anger and fear, and both are things that lurk, quiet and constant, beneath the calm and cynical mask she tends to wear. Deep down, she resents that she has to die. For all Levi!Glen talks about the danger she could present to the world, nobody seems to care about whether she would. To a free-thinker like Lacie free will would be an important thing that should matter. Like with many bottlers, her anger presents itself in quick (sometimes violent) flashes, only to dissipate just as quickly. To the average observer, it might even seem like an overreaction. It all makes sense to her, but she's not the sort of person who usually bothers explaining herself to people.
Her fear she keeps hidden, at all costs. Just about the only time she shows vulnerability is when there's a centipede in the room. (She has a phobia of creepy crawlies, specifically of the long and wiggly variety.) This would have at least partially grown from her status as a life-long pariah. When people are needlessly cruel to you, you don't want to give them anything--especially not fear. Bullies like fear. However, I think another big influence in this is being raised by Levi!Glen. He was very much the kind of person who would push a person's buttons just to see what would happen. (Hell, he put the whole world in danger just to see what would happen, with his "experiment".) He was the closest thing she had to a father, and he was (superficially) her lover, but he was also her adversary; she hid her emotions from him above all others, even outright lied about them.
Needless to say, given her relationship with Levi, she's not precisely a "traditional values" kind of person. Give her a box and she'll likely find a way to think outside it. You could even go so far as to say that she's not altogether sane. Then again, you can't live the life she's lived and not crack just a little. (And frankly, I can count the number of entirely-sane characters in this manga on one hand.) Despite her great capacity for kindness, she has an equally great capacity for cruelty. She barely bats an eye, when she kills, even going so far as dancing in her victims' blood. Guilt and remorse are (mostly) things that happen to other people. A person has to mean something to her on a deep and personal level, before she'd feel bad about much of anything she did to, with, or around them.
For all that, she's actually very well-adjusted, comparatively. It would have been only too easy for her to snap and do something exactly like what Jack did. She didn't have anything like his obstacles. On a whim, she could have walked into the Abyss, make the sky green, the grass blue, and given everyone red eyes just out of spite. Yet, she didn't. Instead, she tried to befriend the very thing that was going to devour her. She went out and pulled friends (even if only for a day) out of the society that hated her. She loved the brother that was going to kill her (twice). She made a lover of the man whose only reason for taking her in was because it was convenient to keep her around until the time she would serve as a human sacrifice. Instead of breaking, she grew stronger. Instead of going under, she overcame.
Re: Lacie's Contract If you think Oz's presence negates her Contract, then I have not explained the situation clearly enough, and I apologize for that. We know exactly one fact about Lacie's Chain: it is rabbit-shaped, as per the shadow behind her in this scene. That is literally the only thing we know for certain about it. Everything else is simply conjecture and fan theory. It could be the White Rabbit. It could be some version of Oz from before he gained his consciousness. Or, it could be a twin, given that everything between Lacie and the Abyss seems to come in twos. (Not all Chains are one-of-a-kind, so it is possible.)
Now, I don't tend to favor the White Rabbit theory, so I usually just say I think it's probably one of the other two. So, for me, it's definitely rabbit-shaped and probably black. (Hence the Black Rabbit.) I generally don't like to get more specific than that, because the writer of the manga (Jun Mochizuki, Queen of the Trolls) has a history of pointing us one way, then having the truth be in the opposite direction. However, if you need me to pick a specific theory for Lacie to keep her Contract, I will say that it's a twin to B-Rabbit (AKA the Bloody Black Rabbit, which is Oz).
If it helps, there's actually some evidence to support this. For one thing, when Oz regains his memories of his life before he inhabited a human body, he does not in any of the flashbacks remember specifically being Lacie's Chain. In all of his memories involving Lacie, he's only the plush rabbit she plays with. When he later becomes Jack's Chain, he exhibits horror when he is made to kill. Now, given that Lacie was perfectly willing to use her Chain to kill, it seems to me that he wouldn't have been so horrified, if it had been him. It would've been nothing new.
Also, we have this page in Chapter 73 of the manga in which Jack observes that Oz must be the same type of Chain. Not exactly the same Chain.
So, you see, Oz's presence doesn't need to be a reason for Lacie not to have her Contract. (That aside, I feel I should point out that this game's resident Jack was able to keep his Contract just fine, and that's definitely with Oz.)
-> ACCEPTED
Note: We have decided to allow the contract with the description you gave to us, thank you.
