Applications

APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN!
The next processing date is Friday 11th October

IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE

We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every two weeks, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. If you wish to request a specific apartment, please do so in the relevant part of the application. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Every attempt will be made to place a character in their chosen apartments, though this may not always be possible depending on the slots available.

Applications are open constantly, but are only processed every other Friday at 7PM EST. The Saturday following acceptance, an IC mingle log will be posted for characters to be introduced to the game.

We now have a test drive community at [community profile] haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old.

Personality: "(The darkness) isn't just the absence of light, but something malign and malicious, something you can touch and can touch you"

Alice Wake has a perpetual, and rather irrational fear of the dark. If the lights go out, she wont--can't--move; the darkness has a way of freezing her. This fear has evolved since being held so tightly in The Darkness' grasp. She has a better understanding of her fear, and now she has a logical reason for it. She can explain how it felt, how cold it was, how terrified she was, and the only reason she didn't succumb to her fear was because she could feel Alan there. She knew he was trying to save her, and that's the only reason she held on.

Her relationship with her husband, Alan Wake, has always been a bit strained, especially during the last two years of their relationship. She cares a great deal for him, loves him despite his self-destructive tendencies, but like any woman in a situation like that, she has trouble talking to him about their problems. Every time she'd try, he'd ignore her; it was like he wasn't hearing what she was saying, or he didn't care. It caused her a great deal of stress, but she didn't stop trying.

Alice is a stubborn, and caring woman (she has to be to be married to Alan, who has been quoted to be 'kind of a dick'). She does everything she can to help her husband get over his writer's block, even going as far as to talk him into going to Bright Falls under the guise of a vacation (when, in actuality, she was hoping that Dr. Emil Hartman would help him, and that the small town would give him something to write about). Her love for her husband is what keeps her going in the darkness, just as it's his driving force to save her; they have their problems, just like every relationship, but their problems are nothing when it comes to one another.

There are many things about Alice that are barely even touched upon in game, and we get to see a little more of her in the novel.  She has a good sense of humor, and tends to be very playful with her husband.  For her, Alan is just as much her best friend as he is her husband, and she takes great pride in their relationship.  Another point the novel makes is that Alice has only one real fear: the dark.  She can handle anything else thrown at her, even her husband when his mood plummets.

Aside from darkness and her husband, Alice is a photographer, and an exceptionally good one, as well. She takes pictures of everything, and is even the one who does the covers for all of Alan's books and promotional images. Her stubbornness (and general dislike for Barry Wheeler) shows through in one chapter, in which you play as Alan in the past. Alice states she's unwilling to change anything when it comes to Alan's covers and images just because Barry wants it done, especially due to the previous time she let him change something. She also firmly believes he's a bad influence on her husband, mostly due to the fact that he's the one that drags her husband from party to party, bringing him home early in the morning completely smashed. That's something that truly bothers Alice, mostly due to the fact that she finds it particularly bad for her husband and his creativity; it feels, to her, that he's hiding and Barry is encouraging it, and that's one of the most definitive reasons she isn't on good terms with Alan's agent.

Alice is there for the people she cares about, through thick & thin, good & bad. Of course, she's far from the perfect woman. She can be a little pushy, though it's generally for a good reason, but that probably doesn't stop it from getting annoying. She's also a bit of a workaholic, willing to push herself through all nighters to finish things in time. All in all, she's a stubborn, pushy, but good person who really just wants the best for her husband.

Abilities/Powers:  Alice is just an average human with no special powers, or magical abilities.  She is no doubt capable of defending herself if the situation calls for it, but no one will find her lifting a car up and tossing it at the nearest enemy, nor will anyone find her taking too many hits before she's down for the count. Normal. Human.

Items/Weapons:  Nothing.

Sample Entry:  A post from Luceti.
Sample Entry Two:  It was like waking up from a nightmare only to be dumped into one that was more terrifying than the last. Alice propelled her body upward, pushing the dark and murky water out of her way. She needed to reach the surface. She needed to breathe. But it seemed to take forever.

The moment her head broke the surface, she let out a gasp, sucking in all the air her lungs could hold, breathing in until it felt like her chest would burst. Her surroundings were unfamiliar, even when she finally pushed the haziness from her mind. There was no cabin, and Alan was no where in sight. She swam towards the shore, keeping her eyes peeled.

Trees. Dirt. Blue sky. All of it seemed unfamiliar, and Alice had to take a moment to rest after she pulled herself from the dark water. To breathe. Her body shook, and the pain in her back was unbelievable, but she had to rest. Had to calm herself down. Had to figure out where she was.

Had to find Alan.

"Alan?" She finally called out, pushing up from the mud, brushing grass and leaves off her legs. He had to be somewhere nearby. He had to be close, but... Her eyes burned, and she bit back tears. That darkness. Cold, unforgiving,"Alan!"

What would she do if she couldn't find him? What would happen if the darkness came back? Alice didn't think she could handle another minute wrapped in its embrace, and her body shuddered at the thought. But her mind quickly traveled elsewhere as her eyes latched onto a feather.

Feathers in the water. Feathers on the ground. Feathers near her arm. Alice gave a choked squeak, almost as if to question her situation, but the words wouldn't--couldn't--come out right.

Wings. She had... She had wings. After a week in the darkness, after a week of fear and waiting, this shouldn't have been so unbelievable. But it was. It wasn't what she expected.

Alice felt like she was drowning.
