APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN!
The next processing date is Friday 11th October
IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE
We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.
In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.
You may apply for two characters every two weeks, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.
Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. If you wish to request a specific apartment, please do so in the relevant part of the application. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.
If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.
Every attempt will be made to place a character in their chosen apartments, though this may not always be possible depending on the slots available.
Applications are open constantly, but are only processed every other Friday at 7PM EST. The Saturday following acceptance, an IC mingle log will be posted for characters to be introduced to the game.
We now have a test drive community athaventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old.

Re: sayaka miki | puella magi madoka magica | reserved
Although her personality seems rather light-hearted at first glance, Sayaka is marked by a deep idealism that affects more than just her morals. Her world view is incredibly stark-- there is good and there is bad and, as far as she's concerned, nothing in between. Everything she does is touched by this ideology and there is no one she judges more harshly by it than herself. For all her joking and smiles, Sayaka is honestly insecure in her own skin and has difficulty living with herself when she can't match up to the standards she sets for herself and the world around her.
She's hopelessly rash, often leaping into situations and only considering the ramifications once it's too late to turn back. Sayaka is quite capable of being logical and surprisingly insightful and reflective-- in most situations, however, she lets her heart lead her head. Coupled with an incredible sense of stubbornness and righteousness, you have a young girl who is liable to get herself in over her head with despairing ease. Tied with her bull-headed nature, her mind is incredibly difficult to change once it's made up, especially concerning her initial perceptions of people.
Her idea of a what it means to be a hero of justice, her ideal, is rather warped-- a hero isn't selfish, they save people, they do good things purely because they are good while expecting no rewards. But real life is full of grey areas and for better or worse, all human beings hold some degree of selfishness-- Sayaka being no exception. She can't face up to the fact that she'd like some degree of admiration for her good deeds; being selfish is bad, and her turbulent meeting with fellow magical girl Kyouko Sakura only compounds this. Kyouko is everything that she considers to be bad and evil, allowing Familiars to attack innocent people purely for her own gain. She can't be selfish like that, so therefore she pushes herself to be a better magical girl despite all her inexperience. Because she has to be, really, after building such a grand notion of who she wants to be it's impossible to accept that she's just a normal girl. A normal girl who is in far over her head.
Truly, at her core, Sayaka means well-- she does want to help people and she is entirely sincere in her ideals. However, the starkness of her outlook can easily lead to disillusionment and her own undoing. Put best by Homura, "With kindness comes naïveté. Courage becomes foolhardiness. And dedication has no reward. If you can't accept any of that, you are not fit to be a Magical Girl."
Abilities/Powers: As a magical girl, there are several abilities that are innate-- enhanced strength and agility once transformed, the ability to communicate telepathically with other magical girls, as well as the pretty costume and weaponry trimmings one comes to associate with the term. Her combat abilities are melee based, her main weapon being swords which she can summon in any number-- either to use conventionally or as projectiles. Due to the nature of her wish (to heal the hand of her crush, Kyousuke Kamijou) Sayaka is granted additional healing abilities, able to heal herself near-instantly during battle (and, as shown in The Different Story, heal others with some effort).
Items/Weapons: One shiny soul gem (to remain in her possession at all times, usually as a ring) and one change of clothes.
Re: sayaka miki | puella magi madoka magica | reserved
Tch..! Is this thing... oh... oh! Hello, can anyone hear me?!
[And without pausing for an answer to her rather redundant question, she barrels on regardless]
Can you tell me where I am? [A good a place to start as any-- although she's honestly much more interested in learning how to get out at this point.] I can't really... stay here, so, if you'd tell me where the exit is, that'd be... great!
[There's a forced laugh though she's clearly struggling. Who's taking care of the witches back home if she's here? Wherever here is... though the answer to her question is obvious enough, she doesn't like either answer in the slightest...]
Ah, I forgot... I'm Sayaka Miki! I'd really appreciate any hep.
Sample Entry Two: It was getting late... the young girl sighed softy to herself as she let the curtain fall back over the window and paced slowly over to her mirror. Bracing both hands against the frame, Sayaka gives her reflection a good stern stare.
... it's not really as convincing as she'd hoped. She could see the fear prickling beneath the surface, feel her hands slipping against the wooden frame-- what kind of hero was she? Heroes never got scared in the face of doing what was right; Mami-san never ran away, ever showed anything but assurance in what she was doing... right until the end. Her mind instinctively shied away from that thought, physically shaking her head as though that would dispel it somehow. That wasn't how she should remember the other magical girl, was it? Mami had always been brave, assured, smart, strong... everything she had ever looked up to. Everything she had always wanted to be.
Mami wouldn't be trembling right now. Chewing her lip, another entirely unwelcome thought followed.
Neither would Kyouko.
Anger began to boil, simmering away and slowly evaporating any fear. She couldn't sit here wringing her hands, letting Kyouko and that transfer student take over Mami's territory, could she? Let innocent people get hurt (or worse) by familiars just because her hands were shaking. What kind of hero-- no, what kind of person could just sit idly while these things happened everyday? Not her, not after everything that had happened.
Squaring her shoulders, Sayaka returned her gaze to the mirror. There were things she needed to protect, this town, the people in it... Mami's sacrifice wouldn't be in vain while she was here.
It was time to go.
