APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN!
The next processing date is Friday 11th October
IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE
We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.
In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.
You may apply for two characters every two weeks, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.
Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. If you wish to request a specific apartment, please do so in the relevant part of the application. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.
If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.
Every attempt will be made to place a character in their chosen apartments, though this may not always be possible depending on the slots available.
Applications are open constantly, but are only processed every other Friday at 7PM EST. The Saturday following acceptance, an IC mingle log will be posted for characters to be introduced to the game.
We now have a test drive community athaventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old.

Rebakah Cooper ~ Provost's Guard series by Tamora Pierce ~ Not Reserved [ 2/? ]
Day to day Beka is a very serious, quiet young women. Those that know her well know and enjoy her stern mother like manner to those that she allows to get close. She is an old soul and even as a child was known to scold her friends when she felt they needed it. She takes responsibility very seriously and feels that responsibility for those around her and has since she was a young child. This is seen in the way she would take care of her younger siblings and the way she felt the need to protect their mother. It was her sense of duty that lead her to do the things she did and that same since of duty that started her on her path to becoming a Dog.
She's a practical, tidy sort of girl. It makes her feel better when she and her space are clean and put together well. This often leads to frustration, given how messy she gets at work. However, though she likes to be presentable she would very much rather have simple things. Fine things make her feel guilty or silly. She does own a few pretty things but rarely wears them and the things she does have tend to have more sentimental value then that of coin. Her one true vanity is her hair, which she wears long though she has to braid it to keep it out of the way.
Beka is a very lawful, straight-laced person. She believes strongly in justice. This makes her a rare sort of Dog, one that actually believes in what she does. She loves her Country and her Lower City. She knows the people of the Lower City, knows and cares for them. She fights for them, even when they are the one's trying to break her head. They are hers, to protect or take down. She has an especially soft spot for animals, children or those that are helpless. She has often gotten into a tight spot or two because of it.
This leads, of course, to her temper. She has one, big time. Her biggest trigger is hurting those that can't fight back. She has others, though most of those take much longer to explode. She does have extremely good control of herself most of the time though she tends to brood, her bad temper simmering just under the service. Unless you know her well the only way you can tell is her eyes, which seem to become down right frightening when she is angry.
Beka, though shy, has a great many friends. People seem to flock around her and will not allow her to ignore them. Rats ( criminals ), children, Dogs ( Police ), a dog of the four legged kind, a Lady Knight, pigeons, dust spinners, The Royal Family, Mages, a consolation and even a God consider her a friend. She has no idea how she ended up with such a large and strange lot of friends but tries not to think about it too much. Each of these people is important to her and though it is difficult or at least should be, she wants them in her life and tries very hard to keep them. They in turn, knowing her as they do, try to make it easier on her when they can.

Beka's gift's are of the Air. It manifests by giving her the ability to speak to and understand both the dead, which are often carried by pigeons, and Dust Spinners. Dust Spinners being semi-intelligent beings made of air, dust and whatever else they can pick up. They appear like small ( relatively ) tornadoes that sit in corners. These creatures stay in one place and trap the sounds carried to it by the air, Beka can take those sounds from them and they are glad to let her.
Mostly her regular contact with, and care for, the dead makes her as much as the Black God's ( The God of Death in her universe ) Priestess as someone with the formal training for such. In fact, the Black God himself stated that she is his most precious Priestess.
She is highly trained in what amounts to police training. Hand to hand combat, investigation and interrogation skills, weapons training ( Things like knives and batons not guns. ) Also trained to handle a scent hound.
Also to be noted is her large pool of stamina. She can run for a ridiculous amounts of time over all sorts of terrain with minimal breaks for breath and water and when possible, food.
Items/Weapons: A Baton ( the old school police sort ), a journal ( blank given the setting) and a spike strip ( worn in her braid )

[ Text: Seemingly Private notes.
Written at an unknown time and place in the City. ]
I have been here for some time. I grow frustrated with myself. I know I should be looking for a way home. Yet... No, I should but I do not and I ashamed of it. No matter that it is a seemingly impossible task I should at least try. I will, I swear it. Here at least, I may think towards that goal. Otherwise... I am unsure. This place is not a good one. The people fear the night and for good reason. In my world, for this is surely not my world, I heard tales of monsters before, but here monsters are very real. These monsters are not like the ones in my stories, there are no creatures of awe or glory here, none are beautiful or wonderful. Even the most dangerous or cruel creatures of my myth are of no comparison to these. These creatures are nightmarish and nearly all would much sooner kill a mot then look at her. Worse, some are smart, horribly so. Still, night is the only time in which they rule and they can be killed though it seems to be cursed hard and they just come back the next night. In the day this is a normal city, though over all different, the details are the same as any other city I have been. People rushing about, at market, work, crime, love. It would be easy to make a life here, it seems many like me have. I will continue to search for a way home but for now... For this moment I am here and I will make the most of what I can.
Sample Entry Two:
Rebekah looked about herself, disoriented and shivering slightly, her body seemingly one large ache. She sat up slowly, her hands grasping for her weapons as she studied the place she was now for attackers. She was outside, seemingly alone. She took a breath to calm herself and took inventory of her body and things. The ache was there, deep in her muscles. Her mind was a bit fuzzy and her trepes were twisted up, she hoped she could keep her last meal down. Her uniform was a bit ripped up and covered in dust from her rough landing. She sighed, of course it was. She shook it off and focused. Her weapons were all there, in fact she was actually holding her baton. There was a bruise on her cheek telling her cheerfully that she had managed to whack herself with it. She was just grateful she hadn't been holding a knife.
She got carefully to her knees, licking her dry lips free of dust when she managed it. She took another deep, calming breath and her eyes sharpened to take a proper look around. The sun was getting lower in the sky. It had been late evening before.. She had been walking towards the Watch House for her shift. Now she was here. It had only felt like mere moments but there was the sun, shining brightly as if mocking her.
The place where she knelt had clearly once been groomed to dust but now was returning to grass and had been for some time. She was in the in the middle of it, it seemed and in a strange triangle formation at the points there were dirty white stones of the same basic shape. Had she gotten caught up in some sort of strange Mage ritual? Whatever this place used to be for, it had been meant to be watched. She could see the benches that had been crafted of metal and had clearly been raised at one point for ease in viewing, a rather ingenious use of space really...it must of been for nobility though, she had never seen such fine metal work and for such a strange reason... As well, there was a metal worked fence of a kind that looked much like chain-mail! This place must have been very important indeed, though if it was no longer in use, why not take back the metal used? It was a waste just sitting here to rust.
There were strange structures on either side, stone work the likes of which she had never seen. Beyond the fencing there were other things as well and people she could see... Her heart pounded almost painfully in her ears. Where was this? How had she gotten here? Who or what had brought her? Of course, the most important question running through her now was...why? Her grip on her baton tightened to the point it was digging into her flesh. Now all she had to do was find out. The first step would be to talk to anyone she could, she would start there and work up to anything else. She stood and, shoving her growing panic down, moved to find a way to get to those people.
