Applications

APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN!
The next processing date is Friday 11th October

IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE

We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every two weeks, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. If you wish to request a specific apartment, please do so in the relevant part of the application. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Every attempt will be made to place a character in their chosen apartments, though this may not always be possible depending on the slots available.

Applications are open constantly, but are only processed every other Friday at 7PM EST. The Saturday following acceptance, an IC mingle log will be posted for characters to be introduced to the game.

We now have a test drive community at [community profile] haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old.

Masume | Original Character | Not Reserved (2/3)

[personal profile] borrowedlife 2013-04-03 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality: Growing up with a very loving mother and father, Masume had always been a somewhat privileged child. They took her everywhere with them, let her experience the world around her, and gave her many experiences that most children aren't so lucky to have. Because of this, Masume became used to a lifestyle where she was given constant praise and attention, and always allowed to do practically whatever she wanted. It had made her a somewhat spoiled child.

As she got older Masume hasn't changed much. She has always been a relatively simple person. However, because of her vast knowledge of other places, and fairly firm grasp on other languages, she had always assumed that she would play the part of the "complicated, mysterious, and cool" girl. Which she used to do her best to maintain that type of persona, doing things like keeping things to herself - such as her wants, needs, and feelings. She was not very good at it, though, being quick to tell someone these 'secrets' once she had realized they'd given up trying to figure out what it was - or figuring out they simply didn't care.

It was always easy to see through her act, as she was a childish brat. She was quick to get frustrated and pout, or at the very least whine and cry about whatever was bothering her. And, despite her attempts to come off as the "cool, mysterious, magical girl," she was never very kind about the nice things she did for people, always having a reason behind it. She was always sure to let them know that she did it "because she wanted to, not because they needed her to" or because "she's a magical girl, it's her job, it's not like she did it for just them."

At her core, she has always been a good girl. She would do anything to help the people around her, be in take a bullet or give up a dollar. Though the way she treated people always contradicted her desire to be nice. When it came to the people she liked the most - aside from her older sister, Satou - she'd always been a bit of a bully, and didn't take their feelings into consideration. The only time she really began to notice the way she was acting was either after the fact, or until it had been brought to her attention that she hadn't been very caring.
These traits only grew the more she cared for someone, which is why her circle of friends had always been fairly small, or held together only by Satou's kind words and ability to soothe ruffled feathers.
It was never that she intended to act this way. In fact, if she were asked how she treated people, she would say that she's very kind and understanding, and does everything she can for them. Which she genuinely believed. In her mind she would go out of her way to listen and be understanding - which she did, to an extent, as long as their opinions weren't considered "wrong" or "unjust" in her mind.

Her sense of justice was what led her to the conclusion to become a "magical girl" in the first place. She wanted to be the helpful person that saved the day - she wanted to be the cool, good person that she had always hoped that she would be. And when the opportunity presented itself, despite initial hesitation, she jumped at the chance. Along side her sister, she knew that they could do good in the world. And, aside from that, the idea of being able to use magic was amazing and excited her, as it would to most any child.

As she grew into her teens, her personality shifted - as most personalities do. She gained a better sense of self control - though it didn't change the moments of weakness where she would pout and whine childishly, or become overly excited towards things that she liked or were new. But as she grew, she began to better understand what it was that she needed to do, and became more mature because of it.

The part of her that acted selflessly became more prominent, especially since her sister had seemingly disappeared off the face of the planet. She worked for the good of the people around her, but more importantly to find the person that had always balanced out her chaotic personality. Which was part of the reason why she had calmed; to emulate how she had seen her sister. As someone who was loving and kind regardless of who the person was, and who stood up for the weak and less fortunate. In a nutshell, she had seen her sister as a sort of messiah, who she now does her best to be like.

Her sister had influenced her before her disappearance with her kindness. Masume had always tried to emulate her sister's essential traits - being kind, generous, loving, and supportive - as seen during the contest with Mikale, who was a flip-flopper and not someone who Masume necessarily liked. But upon hearing that he was Satou's childhood friend, and someone she was doing her best to rebuild that friendship with, Masume did her best to pretend.
Now her kindness is more of a true trait, rather than something she puts on for the better of her sister - but for the good of everyone.

This doesn't mean her "mean streak" was completely wiped out. Her habit of bullying the people she cared about - well, more importantly, the black-haired male companion that had accompanied the party during their travels - stuck despite her attempts at a complete personality overhaul. In fact, towards most people that she harbored strong feelings for she still continued to act childish, one of the major things she held onto as a teenager.

There are some things that not even the most determined person can avoid in their teen years, and Masume is no exception. The need to be liked and the fear of being rejected hadn't escaped her. In fact, it became a prominent part in her decision making. If someone showed a preference towards one decision or another - especially someone she found to be important to her future, finding Satou, or to herself personally - she would jump to their desired result without question, just to ensure that they would continue to like her. She would do nearly anything to be accepted by those who she deems as valuable.

In that vein of thought, making and keeping friendships is very important to her. She enjoys the company of others and likes the feeling of "family," as she has so desperately desired. With her sister having vanished, her adoptive parents gone, and her blood family almost a complete mystery to her, she wants a family more than anything.
She has been allowed to have many families in the span of her young life. She lived with her blood family, the Sakuras, then with Satou's family, the Kuronekos, and lastly with Ryuu's family, the Owens. However, with each passing family she felt less connected. Less a part of them than she had the last. With her family, despite the pieces of her memory that she has lost of them, she felt loved. The feeling of being loved is something she remembers greatly, which is what causes her yearning for people that she can connect to and be with. The Kuronekos had been kind of her, and with time she had come to see them as her true family, but unfortunately time had also ripped them away from her. More slowly than her first family, but much more painful, as she was old enough to develop strong bonds with them. With the Owen family, she hadn't really made much of an effort to become close to them. Having lost two families in only a span of eleven years, it had certainly put a damper on her ability to really connect to a group of people like that again. And with the fear that they might disappear too, if she got too close to them, she kept her distance, making sure to few them as nothing more than a nice group of people who were willing to house her.
Friends, however close they are, are not seen as her family, but as a family of friends. With that sort of distinction on it, she feels that their safety is better preserved, and that she is able to keep people close to her.
However, there are some people she finds it less than valuable to hang onto - one of which being Touka Takamachi. She had been a close friend to Satou's, which is the only importance Masume finds in her. But since the day she had returned without Satou, and had taken Satou's prize title at the contest, Masume's opinions of her have been bitter, making her cold and unfriendly towards her. She behaves this way towards most people who she thinks have wronged her, or have acted in a way that she doesn't agree with.

Only those that she really likes sees her true side of her. Which is a whining, skeptical, hot-headed girl. There are only a select few that she feels comfortable enough to open up to about her inner feelings: Ryuu, the pack mule that had been with them since the get go, (and is someone that she might like) isn't someone she likes or anything, and Satou, her sister who, at the time, is MIA. Needless to say, there aren't very many people that would be seeing this side of Masume. It takes a lot to get that close to her - and when they do, it certainly makes her act a lot more edgy and awkward around them.
To anyone outside of the circle, they see someone who is more reserved - this time being better at keeping her thoughts and feelings to herself. She is nice to them, but she doesn't really let them know what's going on with her, her projects, or how she's doing. And she most certainly doesn't let them know anything about Satou - as so many people had forgotten about her that she thinks nobody has the right to even hear her name.

Her title of Witch of Virtue isn't all for naught, as she does, for the most part, encompass many virtuous traits despite her rude and bratty personality. She is constantly wanting to keep her friends happy and close, and does so honestly, by taking care of their - and her own - personal health and needs. And with the connections she keeps, she does her best to learn from the people around her, both in the intellectual realms and the social and common sense ideals. Her sense of justice is extreme, though her patience has grown with her, making it easier for her to make more educated decisions on people. Once she has made a decision, she sticks to it, pushing through all odds to make sure that she sticks to her word and to get the job done. She will not, however, use violence as a means to an end, making sure to resolve a conflict as peacefully as she can - using attack only as a last resort. She is willing to make as many sacrifices as a situation requires to keep the peace and happiness of others. With her gift of magic, she uses it for the sole purpose of good, always trying to save the day to the best of her abilities.

Which Masume has a lot of abilities to use, with her skills in magic at her disposal. Where she had once been nervous about using magic, she now sees it as a valuable resource to herself. She loves the idea of magic, despite its flaws, and finds it to be the one thing that she thinks truly understands her, in a weird way. Though magic hasn't always been good to her, or to the people around her. As much as she loves the ease of use and how it helps her in protecting those around her, the price system is something she has never understood. Why should there be a price on something that can be used for so much good? With seeing how the price of magic has effected others that use it, and how negative the results of it can be, it's never sat well with her. It's part of the reason why she does her best to use her own magic as much as possible, in place of others using theirs. Because as much as she loves her family, in her eyes, she's already lost them all. And as close as her friends are to her, she hasn't seen any of them going missing, so assumes she's golden.

She will always use her magic to protect and save those in need, seeming to somehow forget that she also has a price for magic. As much as the price system bothers her, and how angry it makes her to see how the price of magic can make her sister disappear from the minds of everyone, she still feels somewhat comfortable around it. With how much training she put into learning it so that she could use it for the better, and to ultimately find her sister, she sees it as a very valuable tool to her.

The most important thing is: she would do anything to find her sister.
