Applications

APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN!
The next processing date is Friday 11th October

IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE

We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every two weeks, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. If you wish to request a specific apartment, please do so in the relevant part of the application. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Every attempt will be made to place a character in their chosen apartments, though this may not always be possible depending on the slots available.

Applications are open constantly, but are only processed every other Friday at 7PM EST. The Saturday following acceptance, an IC mingle log will be posted for characters to be introduced to the game.

We now have a test drive community at [community profile] haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old.

Masume | Original Character | Not Reserved (3/3)

[personal profile] borrowedlife 2013-04-03 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Abilities/Powers: In her duo with Satou, Masume had been more of the defense part of the team. This allows her to be better at shielding, boosting her speed, disabling other people's attacks, and blocking. She does have a lot of potential to use offensive magic well, but continues with her defensive techniques. Using her magic for good, she tries to end battles by peaceful means, rather than using more offensive means. Which she often can, with her boosted stamina allowing her to continue for a long period of time before tiring.

  • Empathy: Masume's empathy is fairly strong, though her ability to use it is lacking. She does pick up on other people's emotions quickly, though unless the person is being obvious, she doesn't usually figure out who it is that she's feeling for. The stronger the emotion is, the stronger she feels is. The more powerful the feeling is, the more likely she is to think that the emotion is her own, even if she has no reason to feel that way. The only time she will pick up that what she's feeling isn't her own emotion is when someone is clearly displaying the attitude - i.e.; a murderer is murdering people. But all other cases are up for emotional grabs with her. Because of this she comes off as moody and emotional, as she often acts differently depending on the emotion she's feeling.
  • Magic Capacity: Masume's magical capacity comes from Satou, having half of Satou's magic within her. The magic that is within her is the biggest part of her, because she is literately made of it. With her training and desire to get more involved in magic, her magical container - the thing that witches and wizards attempt to fill up to gain more power - is constantly being filled.

Being the other half of Satou, the girl with the most magical capacity in their world, Masume's magical power is quite strong. Being made of magic makes it a little easier for her to use, which allows her to come off as a bit stronger than she actually is. If she were to use her maximum strength, she, as the magically-made Masume, would disappear, returning to her comatose state, before she was even able to finish the magic she was doing. Without having a heart, the strain on her isn't for her to physically die, but to instead return from whence she came.
  • Magic Price: Whenever Masume uses a spell that goes over more than half of her power level, she is penalized with a price. The price of her magic is the memory of her family, a much more mild penalty than other peoples, though it's the most important thing to her - as seen by her not giving up her last name, and wanting desperately to keep a type of family together.

Because she had used so much magic before joining the contest and the MASQ, with both random hijinks and training to enter the group, she has forgotten quite a lot of her family already. Though having had gained her title, and started working for the MASQ, her memories have begun to return to her through the years that she'd been working for them. Though there are still gaps in her memories - some that had come "naturally" from when she had her consciousness transferred over to her magical body - and the smaller amount from her use of magic. She doesn't know the difference.
  • Magical Existence: Despite having come from Satou's magic, Masume doesn't have the same sort of health problems that Satou faces. Her body can recover from injury and death within 48 hours (this will not be used in the realm of the roleplay), instead of taking on the heart strain that Satou and other mages do. Pushing her limits, however, will of course make her disappear, as stated before, but it's only at her limits where she truly fades.

Because of her lack of illness, Masume's stamina is really good in battle, allowing her to stay strong through-out a battle and travel for longer. She can keep going using her defensive skills to prolong a battle, making her a fairly good person to have on a team, but not necessarily to work solo.

Masume can sense people's magic, through physical sickness. Depending on the person's magical skill, the more violently she reacts. The feeling tends to overwhelm her and almost over power her, sometimes draining her stamina.
  • General Magic: Since magic, in the realms of Game of Fate, is the ability to make things you only understand, Masume tends to stick to typical things. Being good at schooling doesn't exactly make her good at knowing how things are made - a time where watching more How It's Made would have been a benefit to her.
  •
So, using the things that she does know and does understand, Masume tends to take more of a cartoony approach to her magic. She will create large cakes and sweets as shields and barriers, and will stitch together nets when needing to capture a criminal. Most of her magical techniques come from simple things, but just on a larger scale.

She also is quick to bring things around like giant plastic hands to whack things out of people's hands or to disarm them, or bright lights to blind them. When it comes to means of attack, she tends to have more flowery attacks, using things like beams of rapid-fire hard candies - all of which that don't look very good since she had never quite understood how to mold the sugary treats - or creating giant plush marionettes to control.
  • Magical Device: Masume uses a magical wand which helps her safely use her magic, while keeping it more directed, rather than random and dangerous. Whereas she uses this device, she still has to be in control of her empathy and magical capacity. The main benefit of the wand is to keep her magic in control, and keep her and others safer.
  • Healing: Like Satou, Masume is capable of healing. She is also, as stated, capable of regeneration and reviving herself. Though in the setting of the roleplay, her special abilities for healing will be nullified, and the ability to heal practically unusable outside of the average healing.
  • Magical Links: Though this is more important in the story of Game of Fate rather than in a roleplay setting, Masume can create links with those who he is close to, allowing them to access her magic. She had, in the story, made a link with both Ryuu and Satou. However, she is not likely to make a link with anyone else, since the process is so personal, and allows people to know how she actually is, opposed to how she acts.
  • Language Skills: Masume can speak fluent English and Japanese, as she has lived in places that speak both languages regularly. She knows bits and pieces of other languages, such as French and German, but doesn't know enough of them to actually hold a conversation. She has also memorized a few root words, but this doesn't generally help her with speaking so much as understanding.
  • Artificial Intelligence: Due to the fact that she isn't an actual person, instead being made of magic, she can learn very quickly. It's mostly an enhanced skill from before she had been revived from her coma. However, just because she learns quickly doesn't mean she applies what she's learned as fast.
Items/Weapons:
Magic Device [ her wand ]; This allows Masume to use her magic safely and accurately. Since she is now working with the MASQ, her wand doesn't limit her as much as a beginners magical wand might, though it does however monitor it. It will not stop her if she is going to use too much magic.
Spade Hair Clip; After working with Satou for all the years, and having been Spade when Satou was Heart, Masume is always seen with her Spade Hair Clip. Either she is wearing it in her hair, has it attached to a necklace, or clipped to her clothes like a really try-hard broach.
Sample Entry: I had a test thread on haventest for sample one!
Sample Entry Two: If there was something that Masume lacked, it was common sense. Even with all the brains she had, it certainly wasn't enough to tell her when something seemed like a bad idea or a good idea - or even an extremely dangerous idea. And at this current moment, walking along side the edge of the deserted subway tracks, the thought of "maybe I shouldn't," still had managed to escape even a single strand of her thoughts.

The voices that echoed out from the hollowed out tunnel certainly could have alerted her that something was wrong. In fact, they should have, considering the state of the city as a whole. Even the people who had said "no, they are monsters," hadn't strayed her from her goal. She was going to make sure whatever was down there was taught a very strong lesson: don't mumble.

A ridiculous goal, considering what was actually down there, but she felt strongly about it. Why should they get away with their constant noise, and not be scolded for it? As a child, she was told many times to speak up and to shut up, and those lessons had not fallen on deaf ears. No, she heard them, and being the social justice warrior that she was, she was going to make sure the lesson was spread.

Leaning over to one side, squinting her eyes into the dark abyss sitting just before her, she sighed. A final look before she leaped onto the tracks, her sparkling pink wand bursting into existence against the curve of her palm. She certainly wasn't planning on violence, but if they wouldn't catch the lesson, she certainly wouldn't hold back on giving them a few whacks.
