APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN!
The next processing date is Friday 11th October
IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE
We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.
In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.
You may apply for two characters every two weeks, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.
Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. If you wish to request a specific apartment, please do so in the relevant part of the application. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.
If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.
Every attempt will be made to place a character in their chosen apartments, though this may not always be possible depending on the slots available.
Applications are open constantly, but are only processed every other Friday at 7PM EST. The Saturday following acceptance, an IC mingle log will be posted for characters to be introduced to the game.
We now have a test drive community athaventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old.

Simply put, Zohra is one of the most obnoxious people you’ll ever meet.
Firstly, Zohra is loud. There are some people who are good at blending into the background. Unless Zohra chooses to do so for an assassination mission, he is not one of those people. He makes it very difficult to ignore his presence, as Ryner can attest to. He talks and he talks and he talks and he never shuts up. Even if you manage to tune him out, he’ll make you listen to him. As long as you’ll do so, Zohra can literally go on for hours about himself without getting bored. On a more serious note, though, he explains that it's because he doesn't really have anyone to talk to, so he can't help himself.
Along those lines, never let it be said that Zohra lacks energy, for he definitely radiates passion. He acts somewhat like your standard shonen hero, in that he’s strong-willed, stubborn, and reckless at times, as he’s the “punch first, ask questions later” type. As Pia puts it, he has a straightforward nature. That might seem like an odd trait to apply to him, given how much he rambles, often not getting to the main point quickly, but the thing about Zohra is that he’s sincere, for the most part. He doesn’t sugarcoat his words and purposely beat around the bush—he just happens to, well, have a lot to talk about. For all intents and purposes, he’s simply saying everything that comes to mind. That’s not to say that Zohra isn’t capable of lying, for acting is a technique of his that he enjoys, but as long as he doesn’t have a reason to lie to you, you can generally count on him to be direct (provided that he’s not rambling, at least).
He’s also very short-tempered. Rather than try to list everything that might piss him off, it’s simpler to say that it’s easier to provoke him than it is to not. For that matter, things like threatening to kill you is almost a sign of his love. Aside from Pia, Zohra’s relationships with others tend to be vitriolic at best, for the most part. While Zohra can be friendly at times and isn’t always a jerk, calling him a pleasant person to be around is pushing it. That said, he can be surprisingly timid if you yell at him loudly enough, and though claiming that he's lonely might be stretching it, he does, in a way, crave interactions with others. As noted above, he doesn't have anyone to talk to (spoiler: an environment where murderers and rapists thrive does not make for proper relationships). Because of that, for all his bickering, he does seem to enjoy being in the company of... more normal people.
The one person he is unconditionally amiable towards is Pia, whom he practically worships. He’s completely and utterly head over heels and has been since he was ten years old. If she told him to jump, he’d ask “How high?”. Everything she does is amazing and perfect to him. If you were to ask, he wouldn’t name a single flaw of hers—not because she doesn’t have any, but because they simply don’t exist in his mind. Part of it is, okay, because she’s cute, but another part of it is how strong she is. When they met, she was proof of how weak he truly was. That humbling moment is the basis behind the ideals he then laid down, realizing that fancy titles didn’t make a person strong. That is, she changed his world.
Moving on, Zohra is, frankly, rather silly and childish at times. In other words, it doesn’t seem like his brain is always entirely on. Pia wants the palace? Understood! He’ll go assassinate the king now! He’s the kind of person you can’t help but snark at and tease, since he really just sets himself up for it. Again, as he says just about everything that comes to mind, that means he tends to say rather stupid things often. There’s a reason Pia nicknamed him “Amusing-kun” before he introduced himself, since it can be pretty amusing to watch him flail around and panic when flustered, seeing as how he went from trying to kill his target to apologizing and making tea for her.
Furthermore, Zohra has a huge ego. A fair amount of it is justified, given that he actually is a combat genius, as he will happily tell you every ten seconds, but when he starts talking about how he’s a “god reincarnated”, that might be stretching things a little. He’s not so proud that he won’t accept help or concede when someone truly is stronger than him, but otherwise, he will constantly remind you (or himself) of how amazing he is and how he’s going to kick your ass. Making fun of him is one sure way to anger him. It isn’t even him necessarily covering up insecurities or anything like that—he really is just that arrogant. It's because of this that he occasionally displays a somewhat morbid sense of humour, in that he seems a bit too gleeful while beating people up/killing them, even after his reformation. It's not that he's a psychopath who finds joy in killing people, exactly, but again, he's very proud of his strength and happy to show it off.
Of course, this is largely because of his past and circumstances, what with him having grown up fighting. Even putting aside Roland frequently telling him how special he was up until the point he started defying them, fighting is Zohra’s life. He’s worked insanely hard to get where he is now, so it should go without saying that he’s proud of how far he’s come. Even now, he strives to become stronger and to fight those as strong as him. If you’re a competent fighter, then he’ll challenge you. Though he’s very competitive and may therefore try to get you to admit that he won even if it was a tie, he honestly enjoys a good fight for the heck of it. In addition, it’s because of this that Zohra tends to have zero angst, in spite of what might be a traumatic past for others. He doesn’t have the time or effort to waste on moping or feeling sorry for himself. All he can do is keep moving forward and keep obtaining more power.
In the end, to assume that Zohra is nothing but an idiot would be your mistake. First of all, in spite of his occasional recklessness, he’s actually not that rash overall. He doesn’t pick fights if he knows that he can’t win, and even if he's going into a difficult battle, he comes prepared. As good as he is, he hasn’t survived this long by running around wildly and fighting hopeless battles. He does have sense, really, and can be perceptive, such as when he quickly deduced Biore's and Ryner's identities, despite both trying to hide it. It's also worth mentioning that he's not above playing up his silly antics to trick the opponent—aka he's entirely willing to obfuscate stupidity if it helps him.
Secondly, he can be rather cynical. While he may go around calling himself heroic and, by his world’s standards, is fairly idealistic himself, the truth is that he isn’t really trying to be a “good guy”. He's very aware of the corrupt environment he grew up in, if not somewhat dryly so, and what the assassin life truly means (i.e. "retirement" is synonymous with "death"). He’s used to a dog-eat-dog world, after all, where only the powerful survive. It’s the mindset he grew up. If you’re weak, you’re disposed of. He’s had to live with that fear—if not outright paranoia—for his entire life up until the point where he stopped caring. As someone who's become desensitized to the cruelties of the world and understands that it's a hard place for everyone, he has little sympathy to offer if you've had a difficult life. If you’re someone who can only cling to depression or can’t back up their ideals, then he won’t waste his time on you. That said, it's not a matter of him looking down on others, as he applies the same philosophy to himself. If he were to be killed, then he would acknowledge that as his limit—that he wasn't strong enough either.
With that in mind, Zohra is someone who has backed up his ideals with strength. This is someone who defied his country and risked death to behave in a manner that he believed was right. While he calls himself an assassin, the fact of the matter is that, as Ryner points, he actually isn’t much of one at all, with his following “rules”:
2) He won’t kill women.
3) He won’t kill mindlessly.
4) He won’t kill if he doesn’t feel like it.
5) He won’t kill the weak.
6) He won’t kill if he doesn’t think it’s right.
—Along with various other rules, such as never betraying a friend or, as mentioned, picking hopeless fights, but those are the primary ones. They might not seem like much, but again, given the brutality of his world, he’s rather notable for upholding himself to those kinds of standards. It goes back to his obsession with becoming stronger. Picking on the weak and helpless doesn’t make him strong, after all—it just makes him as bad as Roland. He’s entirely aware that he fails an assassin; he’s proud of it, even. It’s proof that he decided to take control of his own life (minus the part where he’s “love’s slave”, that is) and, furthermore, he didn’t give up in spite of the berating, torture, attempts on his life, etc.
