In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.
You may apply for two characters every two weeks, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.
Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. If you wish to request a specific apartment, please do so in the relevant part of the application. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.
If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.
Every attempt will be made to place a character in their chosen apartments, though this may not always be possible depending on the slots available.
Applications are open constantly, but are only processed every other Friday at 7PM EST. The Saturday following acceptance, an IC mingle log will be posted for characters to be introduced to the game.
We now have a test drive community athaventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old.

PERSONALITY [2/4]
When you first consider Spock, you would see a man of high-intelligence. Spock’s intelligence is far above that of genius. He speaks clearly and articulates with a well-schooled vernacular. He is almost always very polite (even when he is being insulting), and possibly as a sign that he does not speak English as a first language, he is often using somewhat outdated terms and words. As many of his kind, Spock is professionally ambitious and he has a thirst for learning that is difficult to sate. Such a trait is useful for Starfleet and possibly one of many reasons why he excels as the first Vulcan to enlist. In many ways, Spock is an outside who is forging his own path through life his own way. Much like the captain he is slowly beginning to admire.
Spock is rational, logical, methodical, and has an intense moral code that demands he obey rule and law. He desires peace and justice for all living kind and works to actively advocate that method of living through logic. He respects the law and those above him but when his supreme logic and understanding of law crosses wires with those above him, he does make note of it. *Spock’s subtle attitude when he disagrees has been shown to have happened with Admiral Pike on many occasions - once leading in a request for him to leave the room - and he also disagreed with the moral of the mission given to them by Admiral Marcus.*
He is a voice of reason for those around him and has proven to be a brave and wise leader. While many crew members may butt heads with Spock at some point or another, they know that in the end he is faithful to them and will do all that is necessary to lead them appropriately. As a rule, Spock understands that not all beings place logic above all else as he and his people do. However, when all attempts to reason with someone who is displaying signs of irrationality fail, he finds himself greatly frustrated (or baffled depending on the severity and/or situation at hand).
Spock’s loyalty to law and order often infringes on potential friendships. In some parts, he does not care for such a thing but in other parts he desires (perhaps not even consciously) familial bonds. After losing his mother and his home planet - something he feels extremely helpless toward and still haunts him to this day - some inner part of him seeks to fill this hole that was left in him. He is not unloving nor as cold as his peers may believe him to be. He loved his mother deeply and he has an active relationship with Uhura. It is, again, the intensity in which he feels that he must control with logic before it overwhelms him.
Spock can be a little bit sassy, bull-headed, sarcastic, and sometimes downright mean, especially when he is arguing a point of which he is passionate toward (most likely, order, law, and logic). His superior sense of reasoning frequently leaves people with an urge to punch him in the face. The irritating part is that Spock is often right and therefore refrains people from this mode of action (usually).
So, let’s dive into the human side of Spock.
Beneath his veneer of logic, there is a wealth of humanity that we are only beginning to see in him. As a child, Spock was often conflicted. He was often put under scrutiny for being half-vulcan and therefore “impure, inferior, and disadvantaged.” Spock wanted nothing more but to be accepted into the world that he was born. He yearned for the respect of his parents, the respect of his peers, the respect of his elders. Yet even with his excellence acknowledged, Spock was scrutinized against unjustly because he was half human. In many ways, this desire has continued into his young adulthood.
When we first witness Spock at the Academy we see someone holding a strong armor over him that could almost be understood as arrogance. He has a quick tongue and a facade of superiority and perhaps this is a result of being looked down upon for what and who he is; a blanket to keep away the hurt that comes with years of being alone.
His inability to deal with the amount of emotion he feels every single day leaves him in the same position as many other Vulcan: turning toward cold reasoning. At the point of his work with Starfleet, it is almost as if the hope to connect more profoundly with others has been dissolved and his indulgence in academic excellence has taken it’s place. This can lead him to become protective of his academic success and even become jealous of those who may dare to do better, challenging them in his own way.
His wrath as a child when provoked incurs such deep emotion that he easily takes down a Vulcan almost twice his size, and his wrath as an adult is just as dangerous if not more. This is an emotion that Spock has the least amount of control over. *In the second film we also see his ability to feel great anguish to the point of brimming tears before anger takes control and his absolute helplessness toward it. He struggles to keep control of this and even fully admits that he is failing in his control. These are things that he will continue to struggle with in his young life as he is surrounded by those not his own kind. It is a struggle that had often created tense situations with those at Starfleet and will likely continue to anywhere he goes where the principle of living is not based on logic.
It is difficult to pierce the mask of rationality that he wears, sometimes as armor, but it is very possible and when it happens you find a maelstrom of emotions you may not have been ready to unleash.
All of these strengths and weaknesses aside, Spock is a good-hearted being with an intention to do what is ‘right, proper, and logical’. He is often eager to be on away teams and collect data and samples for study himself, and quick to take action. He is one of the first persons to sacrifice himself when all other options have been exhausted believing heavily that ‘the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few’.
ABILITIES [3/4]
Rationality and Logic: these two key traits in a Vulcan and is a prime focus of the current Vulcan life and philosophy. Vulcan’s have the ability to concentrate so completely on rational and logical thinking that it purges their ability to understand the irrationality of emotions. Vulcan's have numerous unique practices, beliefs, and traditions that you can read about here
Logic affects Spock by his own choice. He explains later on that he chooses to take the logical path because of his overwhelming emotions. While he does not understand them as well as someone else who has a more natural control over their emotions, he does understand them well enough that he has to be cautious in how he expresses them. However, this still leads to misunderstandings and he still has to explain himself and the lack of emotions that others perceive.
Martial Arts
Many Vulcan are naturally skilled at self-defense. The nature of their self-defense skill is very methodical and aims to disable in the most clear, sound, and least volatile method possible. They (typically) do not desire any barbaric approach when defending themselves.
However, as we witness with Spock a few times, this skill coupled with his anger turns him into a lethal weapon; a weapon in which rivals and inevitably triumphs that of Khan (a genetically engineered human considered superior in military art). Spock can become very volatile and lose sight of his control under certain circumstances. This fact, coupled with his vast knowledge of sciences (likely including anatomy of various species), makes him quite a challenge.
Nerve-Pinching
This specific skill ties in with the above Martial arts. It is a skill practiced by many Vulcan which utilizes the knowledge of a species and their nervous system to quickly and efficiently impose a temporary unconscious state upon them. It targets a nerve located on the neck. Unconsciousness often occurs instantly but occasionally with small delay. Very rarely does it not work but there have been instances where it does not.
Telepathy
Most Vulcans have something called contact-telepathy which insists that one must be in some form of contact with the other to read them, similar to mind-melding but not the same. However, it is suggested in other incarnations of Spock that he is capable of reading and ‘sensing’ events as they happen without any form of contact. To be capable of reading minds without touch requires a Vulcan of great training. Whether this has carried through to this reboot is uncertain but not impossible.
Mind-Melding
Mind melding is both dangerous and powerful due to what it all entails. It is a method of sharing thoughts, feelings, and experiences with another and it happens through physical contact. During this contact, the person being melded with is experiencing everything that the one doing the melding had experienced as they personally experienced it. It is dangerous due to the overwhelming depth of emotion a Vulcan can feel.
Katra
It is undetermined at this time whether or not this is something that the reboot of Spock can do. However, it is known that some Vulcan are capable of sealing their ‘katra’ or spirit/essence into an object and therefore cheating inevitable death.

Sample Entry: [ Spock has not been as observant as typically known for him as he is still working on stuffing down the panic and regaining control of logic. He has done a few routine checks, however. He looks for signs of native life and observes the planet’s vitals he has awoken on as he continues to walk the ruins of what seem to be an academy.
His communicator is not working, Spock noticed this first, and this technology he found on his person is very dated. It is so dated, in fact, that it is impossible to find any longer. This leads him to believe he has warped into an entirely different timeline.
When he speaks, he sounds calm and articulates with authority. Rest assured, this is certainly not the case. ]
Greetings fellow inhabitants,
I am Spock of the U.S.S. Enterprise from the stardate 2259.
It is my understanding that many of us have arrived here without notice or knowledge of how. My desire is to recruit efforts in re-establishing ourselves back to our appropriate time and place.
To do this, I require information gathered by those who have resided here prior to my arrival. In return, I will supply information upon your request. Please know that anything you wish to share with me may be done so in confidence.

Sample Entry Two: His eyes shoot awake to the sound of alarms-- this was not a sound he was accustomed to. At first, Spock considered it red alert. No. No, this was different. Spock’s body was quick to rise to it’s feet. He felt a panic, he felt a pain, a hurt, a sadness, and a deep ache that he could not yet explain until full consciousness took over him and he quickly concluded that he was not where he once was. This view is nothing he had seen before. This looked like no other planet he had been to before.
Spock turns his head to gaze over the occupants with a sharp eye. He had concluded through quick observance that there was nothing threatening to those who currently reside in this room with him; nothing immediate. So, hammering his emotions down, he starts to consider options and sort thoughts with a small pace-- his hands behind his back. This must have been Khan’s doing. Khan survived as Spock predicted he might. With a portable transwarp device on his person, he might be capable of beaming a target rather than himself.
So what could he do? In these thoughts, his mind reverted back to the past point before this one. His captain is dying and he is not there for him. His captain is dying and he is not there for him. This thought, this pain -- it radiates through him in such an uncontrollable way that he struggles to remain calm, rational, and think past this unexpected change. A twitch in his fingers as he turned on the ball of his foot once more and then stopped. He needed to move away from people that might be innocent, unsuspecting, and undeserving of his lack in control. This was logical. He could not predict what he might do if someone says or does the wrong thing. He is compromised.
Spock moves quickly and swiftly after both acknowledging and excusing himself from the company of those around him with a short and polite nod. Not a word yet spoken.
