IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE
We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.
In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.
You may apply for two characters every two weeks, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.
Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. If you wish to request a specific apartment, please do so in the relevant part of the application. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.
If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.
Every attempt will be made to place a character in their chosen apartments, though this may not always be possible depending on the slots available.
Applications are open constantly, but are only processed every other Friday at 7PM EST. The Saturday following acceptance, an IC mingle log will be posted for characters to be introduced to the game.
We now have a test drive community athaventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old.

While aboard the spaceship Tranquility, Stephanie was shaped largely by the people she met, particularly Nolanverse Bruce Wayne, John Blake, and various adults from other canons. When she first arrived, she hid, watching other Batman from afar before initiating contact with John. Although the discussion became heated, she earned kudos from Batman (which meant more to her than she let on). In ensuing conversations, she confronted many of her underlying issues with her own Batman (such as her resentment toward his treatment of her leading up to War Games and his general reluctance to show appreciation for his wards) through this one. By the end of her stay, she was working closely with both Bruce and John, earning their approval (which, again, meant more to her than she said). As a result, she became confident in her own abilities and her importance. She felt validated, more than ever before.
Similarly, after hearing from other adults that she was appreciated, her self-worth was further boosted. After one seemingly unimportant conversation with Harvey Specter (from Suits) in which he mentioned she would make a great lawyer, Stephanie realized that she could have a future outside of vigilantism. This was reinforced by similar comments from other adults. As evidenced by her visions in Batgirl Vol. 3 #24, Stephanie would like to settle down at some point in the very distant future. Now, she knows that if she works harder, if she improves her grades, and focuses, she can have that future. Although she hasn't told anyone as of yet, she intends to pursue her education more ardently and maybe even attend law school or medical school — all while playing hero, naturally.
The Tranquility also upped Stephanie's tolerance for, well, weirdness. Stephanie has embraced being fictional. In her mind, everyone's fictional somewhere. Moreover, that doesn't cheapen her existence. After bonding with the Nolan bats, Stephanie is open to the concept of alternate universes. Regardless of their origins, every bat belongs in their crime-fighting family and is worthy of it. They shouldn't have to prove themselves.
On the more negative side of the spectrum, Stephanie participated in a mask event while in space, which left her brutality, recklessness, and loneliness amplified. After locking away her mask, Stephanie was only left with residual effects. Still, when she fights, she must make a conscious effort to hold herself back. Going too far is much too easy now. Not to mention, after being away from home for so long (and a lone canon warrior, at that), Stephanie feels a tad lost and lonely. Her hope dimmed, even as she did her best to persevere.
Superficially, Stephanie has a permanent, nanite tattoo on her inner, right forearm, the numbers 011 » 120.
Personality:
Stephanie Brown appears to be a very normal teen. She's a college freshman who has yet to plot her future out. Her report card is a B-hive. Sometimes she sleeps in class or loses herself in doodles and daydreams. She keeps one eye out for cute boys, as any girl is wont to do. Joss Whedon-esque humor is her weapon of choice. Sure, she has a little bit of a rebellious streak, but what teen doesn't? She has her secrets and her problems, just like everyone else. Generally, she manages to blend in with the crowd and fit in with the group, even if she finds herself stuck in "the weird chick" role more often than not.
All in all, Stephanie Brown is an average teenage girl — who just happens to moonlight as a costumed vigilante. Funnily enough, her journey leading up to this average life (barring the vigilantism) has been arduous, to say the least. Her father was a supervillain. She became pregnant at a young age, accidentally-on-purpose started a gang war, and was brutally tortured to the brink of death.
As a result, Stephanie is scarred, physically and emotionally. While she knows she cannot apologize her mistakes away or wish her problems out of existence, she sees no point in moping. She knows she can't fix things, but she won't stop trying to improve them. Essentially, Stephanie's determination defines her. She always keeps going and never gives up, no matter how much someone hurts her or puts her down. Even when everyone expected her to quit, told her to quit, she didn't. Even when she effectively ruined everything she had worked to achieve, she still tried to make amends. Even when no one believed in her, she kept going. For better or for worse, Stephanie Brown is unstoppable.
Ever the optimist, Stephanie fights with a wide smile on her face. In fact, her disposition is as bright as her sunny, blonde hair. She remains upbeat and cheerful, even in the face of danger. A chatterbox, Stephanie never shuts up, especially when around a cute boy. Sometimes, she doesn't even realize she's monologuing, forgetting to keep her thoughts inside her head. Whether someone is a friend or foe, Steph will treat them warmly. She's open about most things, Batgirl notwithstanding, and her speech is littered with jokes and pop culture references, including cheesy puns. The only thing quicker than her right hook is her motor mouth, after all. The superhero banter shtick is part of the fun of being Batgirl. Speaking of which, Stephanie loves being Batgirl. Every time she jumps from a high-rise or swings from a bridge, she savors the rush. Often joining forces with her inner cockiness, this dauntless attitude also manifests itself as recklessness. As Batgirl, Stephanie is openly snarky, mocking her foes with ease and flirting with danger.
Tough and intelligent, Stephanie does the Bat-cowl justice. A quick learner, Steph was trained by the best of the best. She is skilled at following clues and solving mysteries (thanks in part to her father), although she prefers not to do it alone. Working alone doesn't appeal to her. In fact, being alone doesn't appeal to her. She is at her happiest when around her friends, the people she trusts, like Supergirl, Black Bat, and Oracle. Of course, she now officially works alone, which she can handle, but the comfort of having someone there was nice while it lasted.
Regardless of her past and future mistakes, Stephanie is a good person. She wants to rectify her blunders, to protect the people of Gotham, and to be a symbol of hope. Slowly but surely, other superheroes and law enforcement everywhere are coming to respect and recognize her as one of their own. She still missteps, rather often, in fact, but she is getting there — and she knows it.
Stephanie's greatest weakness is her ability, or lack thereof, to control her emotions. She worries about what others think of her, and can become depressed or anxious when they disapprove. The jealous type, her jealousy, or even emotions in general, cloud her thoughts. Moreover, when she is angry, her words and fists are quick and cruel. The reason Batman become upset with her in the first place was because she went too far, almost killing a criminal whose plots hit a little too close to home. Furthermore, Stephanie has a habit of rushing into things, unwisely adopting the leap before you look strategy and making assumptions far too quickly. In general, following orders is difficult for her. Preferring to do things her own way, she does not take "no" for an answer. While her confidence is often a positive aspect of her personality, sometimes she is too confident, taking on things she can't handle.
Her greatest fear is that she will fail everyone and be rejected by them as a result, as has happened in the past. While she appears to march to the beat of her own drum, part of her yearns for others' approval, especially Batman's, even after all this time. Of course, despite all her weaknesses, Stephanie Brown has something many other superheroes lack.
Hope.
When the going gets tough, Stephanie gets going, armed with nothing but a utility belt full of crap and a positive outlook.

PHYSICAL.
→ Having been trained by the best of the best (such as Batman, Oracle, Black Canary, and Black Bat), Stephanie is in peak physical condition. She is healthy, muscled, and flexible. Her physical resume includes: hand-to-hand combat, acrobatics, gymnastics, stealth, weapon-throwing, and escapology. As a result, she can defeat enemies of the highest caliber (like Prudence from the League of Assassins).
→ Arguably a physical and mental ability, Stephanie has exhibited high-pain tolerance. For instance, even after being tortured with an electric drill for hours and critically wounded, she was capable of overpowering her captor.
MENTAL.
→ Her various mentors not only trained her physically, but also mentally. Stephanie is a skilled tactician and investigator. While she performs well enough in school (with a B average), she would likely be a better student if she did not spend her nights rooftop-hopping.
→ In regards to technology, Stephanie is a competent hacker and driver of various vehicles.
CLOTHING.
→ As Batgirl, Stephanie wears an armored (not bullet-proof), insulated (against fire and electricity) bat-suit (which I assume isn't an item, as she is wearing it).
Items/Weapons:
→ ( 1 ) collapsible staff.
→ ( 1 ) grappling hook.
→ ( 1 ) batarang.
Sample Entry: After Nolanverse!Batman makes his presence known, Steph plays good bat to his bad bat.
Sample Entry Two:
Weirdness is relative. What one person considers abnormal, another may consider perfectly within the realm of normality. Sure, most people would deem waking up in a place you’ve never been before instead of your own bedroom with that 90’s Robin picture on the wall that you really should throw out because newsflash the 90’s happened years ago and Robin is definitely not your boyfriend, girlie — anyway, most people would deem that weird with a capital ‘W.’
Stephanie Brown isn’t most people.
Stephanie Brown is Batgirl, protector of Gotham City and space cadet aboard the Tranquility. For several months, she awoke in a futuristic pod, nude and covered in blue goo. In this time, she became well acquainted with dystopian reality and the boundaries between universes. On the crazy scale, this new place definitely does not pass five. When she first rolled out of bed, Steph was, admittedly, confused. Wherever she was, it definitely wasn’t the Tranquility, or anywhere in space, by the looks of it.
Abruptly, she stands, haphazardly rolling back her sleeve to look at her forearm. The tattoo is still there. 011 » 120. Space happened, it tells her, almost reassuringly. Everything — Batman, Blake, the masks, her friends. It was all real. With a sigh, Stephanie pushes away thoughts of the stars and of Batman scolding her (for losing herself in space; for gaining a significant, unique, identifiable physical attribute). No point in dwelling on such things. As hollow as it feels, for everything she went through to be for naught, she cannot stop to wallow. She must move on, investigate, be the Bat. For all she knows, her fellow kidnappees came with her and need assistance, or perhaps she's closer to home than before. Maybe. She can hope, right? That's still her thing, after all.
She checks her pockets and the compartments in her bat-suit. Empty, empty, weird cell phone, staff, empty, hook, batarang. She can worth with those. That's better than she expected, honestly, considering how little she received in outer-space. With a roll of her shoulders and a soft crack as she stretches her neck, she reminds herself of who she is. Stephanie Brown: daughter, friend, not-so-superhero, and ex-space cadet. Reconnaissance should be easy, considering her resume.
Here we go.
