APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN!
The next processing date is Friday 11th October
IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE
We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.
In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.
You may apply for two characters every two weeks, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.
Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. If you wish to request a specific apartment, please do so in the relevant part of the application. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.
If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.
Every attempt will be made to place a character in their chosen apartments, though this may not always be possible depending on the slots available.
Applications are open constantly, but are only processed every other Friday at 7PM EST. The Saturday following acceptance, an IC mingle log will be posted for characters to be introduced to the game.
We now have a test drive community athaventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old.

done!
However, when one considers the fact that Giovanni is a defective specimen, his timidity is hardly surprising; while all the other children are far stronger and faster than any normal human child has a right to be and are gifted with pathogen resistance and an ability to heal (right down to limbs regrowing if they’re severed) Giovanni has none of these traits and – in comparison with his ‘siblings’ is in a very poor position to defend himself. Instead, he’s forced to watch as those around him succumb to the influences of the Spine which turns them into little more than vicious animals, tearing apart their enemies with their bare hands and teeth. When considered in this light it’s little wonder that he spends so much of his time tearful and afraid.
Unsurprisingly, Giovanni doesn’t feel as though he belongs in this world of death and bloodshed and longs for something else, a life altogether less vicious and violent. Because of this, coupled with his defectiveness and his ‘weak’ emotional state, he is often subjected to verbal abuse from their ‘mother’ Angelika, who refers to him as a pathetic dog, nothing more than worthless trash. Seeing the huge amount of power each of his siblings is imbued with combined with the teasing of the other children and Angelika’s berating of him, Giovanni understandably feels worthless and inferior to everyone around him, a complex he’ll carry with him into adulthood (though he eventually becomes far better at concealing it).
Despite his feelings of estrangement from everything around him, Giovanni’s pervasive fear stretches to the new and unknown so that while he hates the environment of the below, he’s also afraid to leave it. It’s something he already knows and understands, while the world outside (a world that none of them have ever known) holds the potential of being even worse. When the other children begin to realise that sooner or later they’re all likely to lose themselves to the bloodlust of the Spine or be killed off by the next generation of specimens and begin to talk about escape, Giovanni either voices his concerns about the world outside or removes himself from the discussion entirely, overcome by the anxiety it provokes in him.
Along with his timidity, fear and feelings of worthlessness, Giovanni also begins to harbour feelings of jealousy for his siblings. Like any child, he longs for acceptance and approval and given that the only way to receive even a small measure of it in the ruthless world he was brought into is to be an efficient killing machine, there is a part of him that wants to be like the others. He’s surrounded by strong, capable children who have many ‘gifts’ that he is sorely lacking, and because of this his jealousy and confusion begins to take root, ultimately culminating in his attempt to kill Lily during their last bloody battle (though I’ll be picking him up from before he reaches this crisis point).
Abilities/Powers: None, he’s still defective at the canon point I’ll be taking him from.
Items/Weapons: The clothes on his back, a gun (I’m not really sure which model they used as kids so I’ll just go with the kind he uses as an adult, a Walther P-38), ammo.
Sample Entry: [It’s taken him a while to find the courage to do anything at all. Waking up in an unfamiliar room may not have been a novelty for him, but the place itself is so strange, so different that at first he’d felt nothing but a paralysing sense of fear. It grips him even now, tangling around his limbs, his heart like some terribly creeper-vine, a deep constriction in his chest that makes it difficult to breathe. But inaction is getting him nowhere and no amount of denial is going to put things right, won’t allow him to re-emerge in a place that he may not like but which is at the very least familiar.
His first attempts with the phone are fumbling at best, the device as unfamiliar to him as anything else, but eventually it crackles into life and he begins to speak. His voice comes out hesitant, faltering, so small and weak that it makes him feel sick]
Um, I...I was wondering if...
[There’s the sound of an indrawn breath]
C-can anyone hear this? I’m looking for... Lily? Heine? Is there anyone else from...
[This time the pause is longer, stretching out for almost a minute, enough time for any listeners to be forgiven for thinking the connection has been cut. When he finally speaks again his voice is smaller, softer still]
This is all wrong.
Sample Entry Two: He wakes up with a start to the sound of an alarm ringing, the trill of it so sharp and high it seems to resonate right down to his bones, vibrating all along his Spine, through the cold metal of the collar around his neck. His eyes open, and it takes him no more than a matter of seconds to determine that this isn’t right, that this isn’t where he’s supposed to be. Waking up to find himself in an unknown location is hardly a novel experience for him, and yet always before it had been a variation of the same old theme, stark white walls and the nebulous gathering of the other children as they waited to discover what new horrors the day held in store for them.
This. This is different.
The room is all wrong, lined with beds that still hold their sleeping inhabitants and yet the faces that are immediately visible to him are none that he recognises. The room is too dull, too small, the smell of it stuffy and underlain with damp, with none of the sterile sharpness he’s accustomed to. And then there’s the window. It’s only just visible from his curled spot on the bed and yet it’s very presence here is enough to alert him to the fact that something is very different, that something is very wrong. Never before has he woken to find himself faced with a glimpse of the outside.
Fear clutches at him with the force of an icy hand twisting at his insides and already he can feel the sting of tears as they well up behind his eyes. It paralysis him, has him curling further in on himself in an attempt to be small, unseen. His heart hammers hard like a frightened bird against the cage of his ribs and indecision grips him as tightly as a vice; he’s at a loss for what to do, what to think.
“I-I’m not supposed to be here...” the words are no more than a shaky whisper that barely make it past his lips.
