APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN!
The next processing date is Friday 11th October
IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE
We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.
In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.
You may apply for two characters every two weeks, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.
Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. If you wish to request a specific apartment, please do so in the relevant part of the application. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.
If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.
Every attempt will be made to place a character in their chosen apartments, though this may not always be possible depending on the slots available.
Applications are open constantly, but are only processed every other Friday at 7PM EST. The Saturday following acceptance, an IC mingle log will be posted for characters to be introduced to the game.
We now have a test drive community athaventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old.

Kozmotis Pitchiner | Guardians of Childhood/Rise of the Guardians | No Reserve 1/?
Contact Info: AIM: gotyermako Plurk: corbix
Other Characters Played: n/a
Preferred Apartment: None
Character Name: Kozmotis Pitchiner
Canon: Guardians of Childhood/Rise of the Guardians
Canon Point: Fearling Prison; as he's about to open the doors.
Background/History: As the General of the Tsar's army, Kozmotis was the hero of the war against the living shadows that had infested the universe and a key figure in cementing the Golden Age's prosperity by locking the shadows that weren't slaughtered inside of a prison planet. While this was certainly to help ensure the safety of those who lived under the vast empire, Kozmotis's only daughter, Seraphina, was the one he was truly fighting to protect.
When the prison was finished and a warden needed, Kozmotis was at the top of the list of those who could handle the job and while he could have easily delegated the task to someone else and happily spent the rest of his days a venerated hero with his daughter he chose to take it. The farewell he gave her and his men was a somber one, most of them knew it was a mission he'd likely never return the same from if at all.
The fearling prison was, perhaps, one of the most horrible places in the universe to send someone alone for years on end and Kozmotis sat stubbornly against the hisses of evil that kept trying to get him to release them through threats or offers of power. When the weight of things pressed too heavily on him he would take out the picture of Seraphina he kept in a locket around his neck to remind him of his convictions and to stave off the madness.
It wasn't until the shadows caught on and impersonated his daughter's voice and begged him to save her that he cracked and went to open the door... just to make sure.
Kozmotis Pitchiner | Guardians of Childhood/Rise of the Guardians | No Reserve 2/?
Kozmotis is a rather reserved person, relying more on observations than questioning to get to know someone or how a group works together before getting personal with them. He has a tendency to remember important things about those around him whether they're close friends or not, things such as birthdays, the names of their family, anniversary dates and various other such things. He's a strategist and knowing your allies is just as valuable as knowing your enemy.
Kozmotis bears himself with the easy confidence of someone who's used to having others listen when he speaks, and falls in to leadership positions with a natural grace born of his years as a General during the Golden Age. He's the sort to get right down in the mud alongside someone struggling along in it and help pull them through. He doesn't expect someone to do something he's not willing or able to do himself, and wants those who have skills in particular areas to succeed as much as possible with them. He may push someone beyond what they think their limits are but it's only because he thinks they're fully capable of meeting those challenges.
As serious as he is most of the time, there is a decidedly lighthearted side to him that is easy enough to find once he's grown comfortable around someone. He's more than willing to discuss his views and reasoning with someone if they ask in a reasonable way, and he's also fond of children and will happily engage in their games and take time to listen to them. While his sense of humor is a bit dry and can lean towards the gallows at times he's more than ready to laugh along even when he's the butt of a joke or prank.
Even the best of men have their shadows though, and as good of a man as Kozmotis is there are vicious and unforgiving aspects of his personality wrought by war and his own dislikes. He doesn't tolerate outright rudeness in any capacity and can be very passive-aggressive when dealing with people he doesn't like. If someone insists on talking over him in a group or constantly interrupting he will fall silent and wait expectantly for them to finish whatever they're talking about to finish, he expects a level of discipline out of people and will quietly seek to enforce it in his presence.
It is difficult to truly make him lash out in anger or outright hate someone, but when he does find himself with an enemy he will deal with them forcibly and with no mercy. He is a warrior and will not lay down and take abuse from someone or tolerate it towards those he cares for. He does his best not to fall in to cruelty but he has no moral issues against making someone's life a living hell or killing those that pose a threat to others. He doesn't believe in fighting 'fair' when not in a regulated spar, he'll use any means and method necessary to win even if it means killing someone using his bare hands and teeth. He tends to be stubborn about receiving help as well, there are other people who need it more after all and he's perfectly fine to push on.
Kozmotis doesn't fear death itself so much as being forgotten to rot away without anyone caring that he's gone. His thoughts can and do run dark given free reign to do so, after all all he has left is his daughter and there would always inevitably come a day when she no longer needed him. He may have survived the war against the fearlings but there were many he knew that didn't, and he's watched as those he once trusted became the horrors they'd fought to extinguish and turn on their friends and loved ones and knows that death is by far the least horrendous thing that can happen to a person. It is, in his mind, often a mercy and the last kindness someone can receive. He never wants to become redundant or useless and will work himself to exhaustion to avoid being idle, even when injured or sick he needs to be doing something. He also fears never seeing his daughter again.
He believes that actions and intentions are what someone is to be judged by as equally as their words, and holds himself to a similar standard. If he says he will do something he does so, and when he says he won't he rarely if ever changes his mind no matter how much someone badgers him to do so. However, he rarely outright denies helping someone when asked even if it puts himself in considerable danger.
Kozmotis is, for all he's witnessed and done, a man who while he may be a warrior and fighter first is also a father who would rather risk the world than let those he loves live in agony.
Abilities/Powers: -Kozmotis is competent in a number of weapons, though is more an expert in melee and bladed weapons as well as hand to hand combat.
-Fighting: Kozmotis's fighting style is generally geared towards fighting while outnumbered,
-Endurance: he is capable of fighting without rest for hours, carrying heavy burdens for extended distances, not sleeping for days, etc.
-Night vision: Kozmotis has better than average vision in the dark, so long as there is some source of light he's rarely moving blind.
-Not Human: Kozmotis isn't human, and some medicines and/or poisons may not work the same way on him.
Items/Weapons: The locket with his daughter's picture, a longsword and his clothes. The sword is forged of startsteel and has a faint glow/shimmer that is visible in the dark, it's capable of striking living shadows (namely fearlings and nightmare men) and wounding them.
Kozmotis Pitchiner | Guardians of Childhood/Rise of the Guardians | No Reserve 3/3
Sample Entry Two: "SERA!"
Kozmotis shouted as he awoke, bolting upright as his hands clawed at the air, reaching for something…or someone that wasn't there. He fought to get his breathing back under control from the surge of panic as he scanned the tent. Everything was as it was supposed to be, and he heaved a sigh and let his head fall to his chest. She was safe back home, not out in this backwater part of the universe fighting against fearing hordes.
He moved swiftly once he got himself back together, rolling from the cot to his feet in a practiced motion. He dressed quickly, donning his gold armor and strapping sword to his side before stepping in to the eternal twilight that had been the norm for the past few months.
"Any sign of more?" He asked the lieutenant who'd been keeping watch over the edge of camp. They indicated towards the horizon where a roiling blackness was seeping along the ground and the stars were starting to fade out. "Kill what we can and cage the rest, it's time we head back home." He ordered, "And bring me my scythe, I want to kill some of these things myself."
The nightmare had given him a reason to fight against the shadows even more ferociously than usual. He'd watched her be taken by them, twisting beneath her skin as she screamed for him to save her. He and the rest of the men and women here needed the relief that time at home would bring, and it would give them all a chance to deal with the loss of those who'd been taken.
