Applications

APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN!
The next processing date is Friday 11th October

IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE

We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every two weeks, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. If you wish to request a specific apartment, please do so in the relevant part of the application. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Every attempt will be made to place a character in their chosen apartments, though this may not always be possible depending on the slots available.

Applications are open constantly, but are only processed every other Friday at 7PM EST. The Saturday following acceptance, an IC mingle log will be posted for characters to be introduced to the game.

We now have a test drive community at [community profile] haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old.

Holly Summers | No More Heroes | Reserved/Expired

[personal profile] forgatmigej 2012-10-10 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
Name: Emma
Contact Info: I'd prefer you to contact me by pm'ing this account! But besides that, you can both e-mail and AIM me at tyto@rogers.com.
Other Characters Played: None!
Preferred Apartment: Put her anywhere! (though the way I wrote my first sample put her on one of the upper floors, but I can edit that if necessary)

Character Name: Holly Summers
Canon: No More Heroes
Canon Point: After her death
Background/History:Still just a bud.

Personality:
On her list of priorities, subtlety is definitely not high on Holly's. Her boss level is located on a local beach which she has not-so-sneakily made an obstacle course out of, complete with barbed wire, landmines, and lots and lots of her men. Then you reach her, and she's a lady in a camo two-piece with a chrome prosthetic for a left leg that can shoot missiles. Nope, Holly Summers doesn't do subtle well.

This comes across in the way she speaks. She wants to know how Travis, our wonderful protagonist, really feels about his non stop murder spree he's embarked on for no good reason, and she doesn't beat around the bush about it. The first words out of her mouth are a series of sharp questions: "Do you like fighting? ...Do you accept death?" When Travis responds in such a way that lets her know that, yes, indeed, this guy is a huge douchebag, she doesn't hold back on letting him know her opinion. She calls him a disappointment and later, stupid and pathetic. What's important to her is that she's telling the truth and trying to get Travis to realize it, even if it means she has to be very, very blunt about it.

Presumably, she does this with most people, getting them to take off the masks they carry and to stop hiding behind their egos. She claims to have a thing for "stupid, pathetic men" and while she could definitely mean this romantically, it could also mean that she likes getting stupid pathetic men to realize what they are, and to help them change, though it isn't confirmed or denied anywhere in canon.

Holly seems to be bothered in particular by Travis's complete dismissal of death. She evidently respects it a great deal, saying "Death is the only truth", but unlike her opponent, it isn't about a love for bloodshed. For Holly, being an assassin is about honour. When she loses to Travis, she would much rather be killed by him than try to get out of it. To her, it just seems simple: she's fully aware that she had entered into a duel to the death, one of them has to die, and it has to be the loser. She lost, so she has to die, whether Travis kills her or not.

Without hesitation or fear, she proceeds to stick a grenade in her mouth. She respects death, but not in such a way that she is afraid of it.

Abilities/Powers:
Weaponized Left Leg: Yes, you read that correctly.
♣ Replaces her left leg, allows her to walk, run, and generally get around.
♣ Judging by its shiny metallic colour, apparently chrome plated, making it easy-to-clean, corrosion resistant, and quite painful to be on the receiving end of.
♣ Capable of shooting heat-seeking missiles. In Haven, the missiles inside will be taken away along with the rest of her weapons, but she'll need to keep her leg to get around.

Knife Skills
Knowledge of Explosives: specifically landmines and grenades
Shovel Fu: skill in using a shovel as a close range weapon. The one she used was apparently made of Super Duper Wood because it was able to meet Travis's light-saber esque weapons without being sliced in half.
Adaptability/Strategy: She knows how to use her surroundings to her advantage. Seen in how she takes full advantage of her location on the beach, digging holes in the sand for traps. When Travis inevitably falls into them, she has the opportunity to throw grenades in there with him until he climbs out.
Academic Knowledge: She refers to herself as an academic, and her above strategy shows she's smart, but what exactly she's an academic of is never said. Headcanon states that it is psychology and botany.
Bi/Multilingual: This is mostly headcanon, but Holly comes from Sweden, so it only makes sense that she's fluent in Swedish as well as English.
♣(According to headcanon, she knows simple Vietnamese, due to her mother's side of the family being from there.)

♧ And finally SUPERMODEL POWERS: one of the few things we know for sure about Holly is that she used to be a model, and I don't know about you, but I consider the ability to run/stand up for long amounts of time in high heels to be one admirable talent.

Sample Entry:
[The feed opens to a rhythmic pattern of sounds. First a soft clunk, then a slight clicking. A clunk, then a click, clunk, click. At random intervals the rhythm stops, only to be filled with the sound of a hinge squeaking and someone knocking on something hollow and metal.]

I'm currently asking myself many questions, but I'll shorten them to a key two. I'll be sure to ask the others later. [The voice is soft, female, with a hint of a European accent.]

First: where might I find a bottle of baby powder? [There's a brief rattling, and then the video clicks on. There's a young woman with grey eyes and a very tousled head of short black hair, as though she's just woken up from a particularly bad nightmare. She's smiling softly at the camera as she lurches unevenly down the dimly lit stairwell.] You see, I'm absolutely covered in sand. [To prove her point, she pauses and angles the camera down towards her torso. Not only is she covered in sand, but she's wearing a camouflage two-piece swimsuit, as well as some sort of complicated artillery vest. But that's enough of her hot bod; she focuses it on her face again.]

Second: what kind of dumbom builds an apartment building without an elevator? [She gives a brief snort of laughter.] The kind completely insensitive to those who are missing certain crucial limbs. [She sighs as she approaches the next set of stairs, having made a quick turn on the landing. The limping descent begins again. She shrugs, smiling pleasantly.] Well, I certainly have been in worse situations.

Sample Entry Two:
She's alive again.

Sand flakes away under her thumb as she brushes it against her neck. She can't stop touching her hair, her scalp. To suddenly regain a head after one had stuck a grenade in one's mouth was simply impossible.

Then again, there had been a time when she believed missiles couldn't be fired from a metal leg, and look how that had ended. She chuckles to herself, and closes her eyes to think.

She cannot linger in this room forever. There's a fridge with no food and appliances that need fixing, not to mention that battered old cellphone that had been waiting on the bedside drawers when she woke. What's the point of giving her a phone if there aren't other people to communicate with? Unless whoever had chosen to give it to her had a particularly cruel sense of humour, and this was all a grand, heartless, dangerous joke.

To take away one of Death's prizes is to play with something much worse than fire, after all.

But that can be ruminated upon in bed, after a hard day's work.

Holly rolls her shoulders, tilts her head one way and then the other, hearing her neck crack. Leaning upon her sturdy metal pillar of a left leg, she stretches out her right, rolling her ankle to loosen it up.

Time to conquer her first goal: getting downstairs.
