Applications

APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN!
The next processing date is Friday 11th October

IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE

We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every two weeks, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. If you wish to request a specific apartment, please do so in the relevant part of the application. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Every attempt will be made to place a character in their chosen apartments, though this may not always be possible depending on the slots available.

Applications are open constantly, but are only processed every other Friday at 7PM EST. The Saturday following acceptance, an IC mingle log will be posted for characters to be introduced to the game.

We now have a test drive community at [community profile] haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old.

Usagi Tsukino | Sailor Moon | Reserved

[personal profile] rabbitheartedgirl 2012-10-14 01:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Name: Gil or Lauren
Contact Info: PLURK: verisimilitude
DW account: quiddity
AIM: gimmeyourgil
Other Characters Played: N/A, also apping Rikku.
Preferred Apartment: 1.006

Character Name: Usagi Tsukino, sometimes called dumpling head or meatball head or any other number of insulting names based on her hair style. Also sometimes called "Bunny" or Usako (a diminutive form of Usagi).
Canon: Sailor Moon (anime)
Canon Point: The end of the Dark Kingdom Arc, just before the girls are set to warp to the D Point (episode 45 in Japan, episode 40 in the American dub).
Background/History: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sailor_Moon#Story & http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sailor_Moon_%28character%29

Personality: 14 years old and in her last year of junior high school, Usagi Tsukino is a student who defies the norms by not joining any of the clubs at her school and slacking off to the point of repeatedly failing exams. Not stupid, simply exceptionally lazy, her main goals in life appear to be eating as much delicious food as possible, sleeping whenever she can, and generally getting by with as little work done as possible. She regularly sleeps in and is running late, particularly in the mornings when she should be getting ready for school. Her major hobbies appear to be daydreaming, pining after the handsome worker at the local arcade, pigging out on junk food and playing video games. She has little to no talent with sports, being clumsy (the sole exception being discus throwing), and is forgetful and becomes lost or distracted easily. Combine all that with her attitude as an infamous whiner and crybaby, and she seems like a less-than-average teenage girl who has a slightly strained relationship with her family members (particularly her mother, who gets angry at her for her poor performance and her younger brother, who likes to tease her about her bad grades as well).

In reality, she has a lot on her shoulders: the weight of the world, actually. Secretly, she fights monsters from outer space that want to steal peoples' energy and take over the world as the heroine known as "Sailor Moon." Additionally, she has recently discovered that she is the reincarnated princess of the moon, a girl who lived a thousand years before and died when the same invading alien forces attempted to destroy her kingdom and steal away her fiance. Although fulfilling her duties to protect the innocent and powerless are not at all easy for her (being generally nonathletic, klutzy, unwilling, and easily frightened) she can and does rise to the occasion, usually when people close to her are threatened. This is because Usagi is a very loyal friend and a genuinely caring person. She's the kind of person who can and does care about the well-being of people, even strangers, and stray animals and will go out of her way to help someone in need.

She can actually be quite overbearing, nosy, and meddlesome with her friends, particularly in matters related to their love-lives. She's kind of a terrible gossip, has a weakness for jewelry and money, and she is NOT above getting into petty squabbles (having an immature temperament) with her friends and younger brother. But she's also supportive and loving and would put herself in harm's way to protect the people she loves and even risk their anger in order to help them.

Usagi wears her heart on her sleeve, for certain, but it's a good heart, and usually she manages to endear herself to other people. Her struggles to find the courage to stand up in the face of powerful evil is aided by her love for her friends and one Mamoru Chiba, who (as it coincidentally turns out) is the man she was engaged to in her previous life and believes to be her soul mate. Notably, though, she pretty much never does anything unassisted, and is frequently on the losing end until someone (her friends or Tuxedo Mask) show up to save her.

She tends to have a low opinion of herself, though, perhaps because other people can be so hard on her and because she is somewhat aware of her shortfalls (laziness, being a crybaby, not being a very good leader, etc) and her confidence in herself can be just as easily broken down as it is built up. What she wants more than anything now is to be able to return to her peaceful life as a normal girl and enjoy the rest of her teenage years (as well as dote on the love of her life and hang out with her friends).

Abilities/Powers:
As herself, Usagi appears to possess absolutely no abilities what-so-ever.

She transforms into Sailor Moon using a brooch that she wears on the bow of her uniform at all times by calling out the words, "Moon Prism Power, Make up." This locket, when opened, plays an 'orgel' version of the anime's opening theme song, "Moonlight Densetsu," and is a symbol of her relationship to Mamoru.

Within that brooch is an item known as the 'Ginzuisho,' or the Silver Crystal. This item is by far her most important item, and is the holy relic left over from her life as the princess of the moon. It is considered the proof of her identity as the Princess and the ultimate source of her power. It gives access to a very strong power that can heal/cleanse evil, however, using it drains her life force and ostensibly kills her.)

A transformation sequence occurs involving magic ribbons that spring out of the brooch, in which her school uniform is replaced by a uniform with an extremely short skirt, gloves, boots and a tight bodice (to detail it some). When she transforms back, these ribbons will usually unwind to reveal the clothes she was wearing before, except in the case of a forced de-transformation, in which case she may be left naked. (whups)

As Sailor Moon, she appears to have increased speed and the ability to jump incredibly high/far. She has a few body attacks, including Sailor Moon Kick and Sailor Body Attack, neither of which are very successful and are very rarely used.

She also has access to a few items that allow her to attack evil doers. There are two red jewels in her hair buns that can act as amplifying receivers to hear victims in distress. They can also amplify the sounds that she makes, turning her cries into sound waves that can damage an enemy. The tiara that she wears on her forehead can be taken off and transforms into a weaponized discus, the path of which she can direct. It can also be enlarged and shrunk to ensnare an enemy as though it was a metal lasso. She even once uses it in the anime to purify a group of possessed people.

She also possesses an item known as the Moon Stick to perform energy/magic-based attacks. Sometimes these are unnamed, but usually she will say 'Moon Healing Escalation' to activate them. These powers are sometimes indistinguishable as attacks or healing/purifying powers because many of the monsters she faces are actually corrupted or possessed beings or objects.

Usagi very rarely accesses her aspect as Princess, but when she does her clothes change to a flowing white dress and her powers seem to be reduced in number but amplified in strength. However, using the Silver Crystal in this form usually results in her passing out or dying and is therefor a last ultimatum.

In later arcs of the anime, she is occasionally able to access a pair of wings that are sometimes functional; I am assuming that without prior mod permission those will not be showing up.

Note: There is at least one other object that Sailor Moon possesses known as the Transformation Pen that allows her to change herself to any number of other things for the purposes of disguise; I have already assumed that will not be coming with her, so I haven't bothered to list it, but please let me know if I need to. I am aware that as Sailor Moon, Usagi will not have access to the Moon Rod and therefor a large chunk of her powers. I will look to you for direction as far as her tiara, possession of the Crystal, and the functionality of her hair pieces go.

Sample Entry:
[Nervous, feminine laughter pipes through the speaker phones.]

Man, I really thought Ami was just kidding about not eating cheese before bed. This is the weirdest dream I've ever had. Where're the cute boys? The dozens of cake? The ice cream? Just a lumpy bed…

[There are a few moments of silence, and then a whispered ouch and a whimper.]

But… how come… I mean, I pinched myself, but I'm not… waking up. I am dreaming, aren't I? Right?

[There is a quiver and sharp rise to the pitch of her voice.]

Is this a nightmare? Oooh, I really don't…

[She sniffles. When she speaks again, her voice has definitely hit a decidedly nasal, whiny quality.]

Why can't at least my dreams be normal? I wanna wake up…!

Sample Entry Two:
Usagi sniffled miserably in the corner of the unfamiliar room, head buried against her knees in her navy pleated school skirt. She'd been crying for—well, who knew how long now. She'd pinched herself just about a half-dozen times and no matter how hard she did it, she just couldn't wake up.

Which meant this wasn't a dream.

Which meant she'd been kidnapped to some unfamiliar place with a strange, unfamiliar bed. The last thing she could remember was preparing to go warp to D Point, but now she wasn't sure where her friends were or where she was, and trying to teleport all on her own was just going to be impossible.

She just wanted to go home. Or back to sleep.

Note: I feel like both these samples show a very limited range to her personality. If you're hoping for something more well-rounded, the following thread should be helpful: http://the-love-hotel.dreamwidth.org/531003.html?thread=57549371#cmt57549371 (Please note, while this thread is technically hosted on a smut DR, none of the content in this thread is rated higher than PG-13 or R.)
