We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every two weeks, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. If you wish to request a specific apartment, please do so in the relevant part of the application. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Every attempt will be made to place a character in their chosen apartments, though this may not always be possible depending on the slots available.

Applications are open constantly, but are only processed every other Friday at 7PM EST. The Saturday following acceptance, an IC mingle log will be posted for characters to be introduced to the game.

We now have a test drive community at haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old.

Character Name: Amaterasu, often shortened to "Ammy"
Canon: Okami
Canon Point: After the end of Okami, but before Okamiden
Background/History: ❝Origin of all that is good, and mother to us all.❞

Upon awakening in Haven, Amaterasu will find herself in a human body. This enables her to actually hold her phone (no fingers or opposable thumbs as a wolf) and to speak human languages!

Personality: Amaterasu is referred to throughout the game as "source of all that is good and mother to us all". But in her mind, the latter always comes first.

Ammy sees everything and everyone as her child. As the "True Mother to All", she sees every living thing as her responsibility to take care of, nurture, and protect. She heals every dead tree that she encounters, feeds every wild animal, and goes out of her way on many sidequests to help the various humans she meets.

Her love is unconditional and relentless - she will love you the moment she meets you and it is nearly impossible to get her to stop. She believes everyone is capable of changing for the better and won't hesitate to nudge people towards the right path in her own way. She's very encouraging and comforting, and will never give up on someone she loves. She's optimistic in other people and helpful to a fault - she can be taken advantage of fairly easily, as her history with one Ninetails proves.

Amaterasu is nonetheless someone you don't want to make an enemy of. Like the alpha female of a wolf pack, she is ferociously protective of her children, but also expects to be respected. She will forgive others much more easily of an offence directed at herself than she forgives one directed at one of her children, but an insult against her will not be forgotten easily.

Thus, she sees things in shades of black and white. Where she's from, humans are good and demons are mostly bad; she does not easily understand that some humans have the hearts of demons. She's very naive and gullible that way, but in drastic situations, she suddenly becomes very good at cutting through lies.

A dog's unconditional love isn't the only doggy thing she's inherited. She can also be easily distracted or just plain stop paying attention to what people are saying to her, although it's usually when she's being told things she already knows or are fairly obvious. She chews on things that are unfamiliar to her, and loves touching and scratches behind the ear.

Finally, Amaterasu is truthful... mostly. She's a mom, so she knows when the truth will hurt, so she knows when telling white lies will help and how to break painful news carefully. She cannot tell people outright that she is a goddess because that undermines the faith she needs in order to protect her people, so she will regularly tell the half-truth that she is a servant of "a higher power".

Abilities/Powers:

SHE HAS A LOT. Let's see if I get them all.
♕ Wolf Hearing: She'll be turning into a human form in order to communicate without her ink, but she'll be retaining her wolf ears and tail, and thus her wolfy sense of sound.
♕ Near-Immortality: Amaterasu is the physical incarnation of a goddess. She can be killed in battle against demons/beings that have a cursed aura or opponents who have some sort of connection to magic, but is otherwise very difficult to slow down.
♕ Speed/Agility: Ammy is capable of running for very long distances without slowing down. She can also jump while already in the air (a double-jump) and jump off of walls after briefly clinging to it.
♕ Digging: She may not be a wolf anymore, but she still has hands and the skills to dig with doesn't she?
♕ General Healing: Ammy is constantly trailed by vegetation. When she walks, grass follows in her wake, and flowers sprout behind her when she runs. Autumn leaves follow her double jump, and little lily pads float away from her when she swims. When she falls from high places, grass radiates out from her. Ammy promotes plant growth wherever she goes even without her ink, apparently healing the soil and causing plants to grow even without seeds. This may expand to being heal other people in game, but she would definitely need a good amount of Praise (see below) to know she was even capable of it.
♕ Celestial Brush Techniques: Ammy is capable of manipulating ink - by drawing shapes and lines around her, different effects will take place. She usually generates the ink by herself, but this ability will be taken away upon arrival to Haven. She could potentially draw them with mud but obviously Haven won't like it. :I

♛ Sunrise: By drawing a circle in the sky, Ammy can turn night into day. At least in her universe. Because she's not a goddess of the Haven world, she can't manipulate time to that degree. If she were to attempt something like it, it might create a glowing disk that can act as a light source, but only for a few minutes, if that would be allowed!
♛ Crescent: Opposite of the above; by drawing a crescent in the sky, Ammy can turn day into night. Adapted, it would create a temporary cloak of invisibility, lasting for only a few minutes, if allowed of course.
♛ Rejuvenation: By inking in the broken or missing parts of objects, she can restore them to full or working condition.
♛ Power Slash: By drawing a single horizontal or diagonal line through something, the ink will cut it in half, depending on the material.
♛ Bloom: The ability to restore plants. By drawing a circle around a dead tree, she can restore leaves to it; by leaving single dots on soil, a tree will sprout; and by drawing general doodles on the earth, she can create blooming flowers.
♛ Water Lily: By drawing a circle on top of water, Ammy can create big lily pads!
♛ Vine: By drawing a line between herself and certain floating magic flowers called Konohana Blossoms, Ammy can create vines to stand up on top of them. Unless the flowers show up in Haven, this won't be happening.
♛ Cherry Bomb: By drawing a circle with a line intersecting it, similar to a Q, Ammy can create a rather large bomb, which can be used in combat or to blow up walls.
♛ Waterspout: By drawing a line originating from a body of water, the water will follow the ink to wherever the line ends.
♛ Galestorm: By drawing a loop-de-loop or a spiral, Ammy can create gusts of wind.
♛ Inferno: By drawing a line originating from a flame, the fire will follow the ink to wherever the line ends.
♛ Veil of Mist: By drawing two horizontal lines, Ammy can slow time to a near-stop for four seconds.
♛ Catwalk: Similar to Vine, in that it relies on objects that aren't in Haven. If Ammy finds statues of the Cat Goddess Kabegami, she can draw lines from the statue onto the wall(s) behind it, allowing her to jump onto walls and cling longer than she would normally be able to.
♛ Thunderstorm: By drawing a line originating from a source of electricity, the lightning will follow the ink to wherever the line ends.
♛ Blizzard: By drawing a line originating from ice, the ice will follow the ink to wherever the line ends.

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE! Ammy does have secret brush techniques - improvements and variations of the above - but she won't be able to use them in Haven, at least not right away. As a goddess, Ammy requires
♕ Praise: The faith of the people in her/the Gods. Only people who are deeply religious/believe in the supernatural/spiritual things can see her red markings and her weapons when she isn't using them in battle. The more people believe in her, the more of these secret brush techniques she'll be able to unlock.

Items/Weapons: Her three strongest Divine Instruments - her reflector Solar Flare, her rosary the Tundra Beads, and her glaive Thunder Edge.

Sample Entry: [The feed snaps on in the very early morning, while most of Haven's residents are surely asleep, to show... nothing. Well, almost nothing. There appears to be a white eyebrow, white bangs, and the sound of chewing. The sound continues for a moment until finally, the recorder pulls back and stares down at the phone. The woman doesn't appear to recognize that it's recording. She has white hair, gold eyes, and what appears to be two dog-like ears peeking out of the crown of her head.

She sets the phone aside, the new angle revealing that she's crouched on the window sill of the apartment. One side of the window is open, and she's practically outside the building, the way she's staring up at the sky. Eventually, she throws back her head and howls, but even that stops as the sun starts to rise off in the distance.

The video is silent until the woman finally speaks to herself.] This is not the Nippon I know. This is not my sunrise. This is not even my body. [The ears on the top of her head fold backwards and press close to her hair.] In the name of Takamagahara, where am I?

Sample Entry Two: Grass and flowers have returned to this place in her footsteps, but she has not yet encountered any animals. The true mother can only do so much to help the humans, vampires, robots and other citizens of Haven before she begins to grow concerned for her other children.

She does not wander away from the complex or the well very often - there is almost always some endeavour to help with, whether it be carrying water to and fro, or helping collect information, or just keeping someone company. Haven is most definitely not her world; it belongs to all of them and none of them. There is understandably no air of peace or calm in a giant prison. The sun cannot be caged forever, but the unbreakable perimeter is starting to grate upon even her nerves. She does her best to keep her frustration hidden however. The mother must be brave for her children.

Deep within the ruins of Haven she stops, shredded green plants and a few seeds of fruit in her hands. She places it on the ground, and lays down a few feet away. It takes hours, possibly, but when the starved-looking rat emerges from a building, it is all worth it. "Hello, my little one," she murmurs softly, as it skitters hesitantly closer. "You must be hungry."
