Applications

APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN!
The next processing date is Friday 11th October

IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE

We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every two weeks, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. If you wish to request a specific apartment, please do so in the relevant part of the application. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Every attempt will be made to place a character in their chosen apartments, though this may not always be possible depending on the slots available.

Applications are open constantly, but are only processed every other Friday at 7PM EST. The Saturday following acceptance, an IC mingle log will be posted for characters to be introduced to the game.

We now have a test drive community at [community profile] haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old.

Personality:

Even in Clover's first appearance in 999, she is rather jaded for an 18 year old. She had already been through the horrors of the Nonary Game once; now she, and the person most precious to her, her brother, would be forced to go through it once again. This is an integral part of her character, and a seed that grows and twines depending on the path that you, the main character, choose. In fact, the true ending can only be achieved if you fully befriend Clover and somehow manage to get her to confide in you, which is a very daunting task.

Let's start with Clover's surface personality, though. Her appearance certainly matches her attitude; how could a girl with bright pink hair not be bubbly and quirky? Well, Clover certainly plays to it. She's got cute mannerisms, a sometimes juvenile way of talking, speaking, and joking (she names inanimate objects and dead animals), and can be really bossy and prissy when pressed, especially when she's feeling especially cranky, such as when Snake disappears in 999. She is forthcoming with her feelings on issues, an can be really bold at the worst of times — she openly insults a tower of a man, Seven, when she's trapped on a supposedly sinking ship orchestrated by one of them, while on top of that, one of the group was missing. It's natural for her to blurt out whatever comes to mind, which can lead to some miscommunication; she often talks faster than she thinks, a trait that still prevails a year later in Virtue's Last Reward, where she often misreads doors. She ends up thinking the Pantry is the Panty Room.

However, Clover is someone with emotional extremities. She has her highs, where she is happy, excitable, pleasant to be around, and generally a bit of a dork, but then we have her low, depressive side, the one that has been fostered since the Nonary Game. This side of Clover is paranoid and extremely protective of those she confides in. Notably, Snake in 999 and Alice in Virtue's Last Reward. Her tendency to jump to conclusions is, once again, shown here, as she immediately assumes someone else has killed them when they turn up 'murdered'. This also shows just how distrustful Clover can be of others; she is a girl who has been wronged many times and continues to be wronged, and, as such, puts up a wall between herself and others. She has a difficult time letting people in and allowing them to see her true self. As such, she has mostly relied on Snake her whole life — she acts as his 'bodyguard', though this role is moot as Snake is quite capable despite his blindness.

Her dependence on people and tendency to latch onto those she feels like she can trust is further extrapolated on with Junpei. When Snake is missing and presumed dead and Junpei begins to form some sort of bond with her, once she knows she can trust him, he has that trust for life. It is at this point that Clover would do anything for him, as he's been added into her 'circle', so to speak. Even a year later, in the third Nonary Game, when Tenmyouji reveals his true identity to Clover she immediately presses Sigma to ally with him. She could never betray anyone who has done something kind for her. Clover is loyal, almost to a fault, and, to her, the people she relies on can do no wrong. This can be seen as a fault at times; in Virtue's Last Reward, in a few paths, Alice orders Clover to get out of the game immediately because her BP is high and she is capable, so she seduces Sigma into betraying Tenmyouji then escapes rather gleefully from the game. This means that, unless she contacts her superiors and finds some way to evacuate everyone else, they are all stuck. She does this because Alice orders her to do so. Clover can also be close-minded to ideas and suggestions she just doesn't like, and, at times, rather dogmatic. This can be seen in Virtue's Last Reward, where she argues with Luna for more than ten minutes regarding whether she killed Alice or not, and, even though Luna says it isn't true every time, Clover refuses to believe her and pulls out an injection gun full of virulent poison to intimidate her with.

While Clover does some questionable things throughout the series, such as killing everyone with an axe in 999 because she feels they all conspired to kill Snake, and threatening Luna with an injection gun in Virtue's Last Reward, which ends in her getting injected with a virulent poison, Clover is someone with a few unflappable morals and ideals. She is not one for lying, believes strongly in justice and fairness, and always has good intentions. She just wants the best for her companions, and to her, the 'end justifies the means' of reaching this goal.

Clover's ditziness can belie her inner intellect. Able to make computations in her head in seconds, she will often take Junpei's notebook and jot down random math equations. She's got a sharp wit, too; she often relies on it to survive, and this, paired with a lot of common sense, helps her stand her own amongst her much elder companions. She is also capable of being charming, persuasive, manipulative, and using her attributes to the best of her ability. Even if she isn't a hulking man with pure, raw physical strength, like Seven and K, she knows how to utilize what she has and maximize things in her favor.

Clover does a lot of maturing between 999 and Virtue's Last Reward, notably because she and Snake run away from home and begin to fend for themselves. Clover learns the virtues of self-sustenance, and living on her own surely gave her a new, far less self-centered outlook on life. Another notable, key element to her maturing is her induction into the SOIS and her relationship with Alice. Though she is initially vehement about abandoning her memories of Nonary Games and Morphogenetic Fields, when Alice informs her that they have been tracking June and Santa, her curiosity gets the better of her. She joins the SOIS, along with her brother, and Alice becomes her commanding officer. She immediately admires Alice for her fortitude and cool demeanor, and, after she is saved by her in a botched infiltration, swears to become more like her. Clover is convalescent in her attempts to emulate her goal and become more like Alice. However, the typical, careless Clover will still show her face from time to time, especially in moments where she's feeling an especially strong emotion; one notable instance is in the PEC, when she learns that the door is welded shut and she flies out of the room to take off her hazmat suit, which results in the air pressurizing in the room Sigma and Tenmyouji are in, and, subsequently, them getting stuck. This will ring true to those who played 999, where in the laboratory she does something similar and ends up getting trapped in a separate room.

Clover also seems to show a more caring side that seems to have developed from the time between 999 and Virtue's Last Reward. She seems genuinely interested in getting the lot of them out from the beginning, and the only times she is willing to forsake everyone is when she is on orders. She shows genuine concern for Quark, a 10 year old boy, where he begins to act suicidal, being one of the first to pin him down. When she is paired with Sigma and Quark in one room, her first priority is getting him into a treatment bed to see if it can cure the disease he had acquired. She also shows genuine remorse when she accidentally injects Luna with tubocurarine, immediately fleeing the room to get a defibrillator from the infirmary to revive her. After all, she had only intentioned to threaten and intimidate her with the injection gun. She has a different opinion on 'death' and 'killing', as she is much less quick to turn to violence than her 999 counterpart.

Overall, Clover is a girl who just wants to be normal and surrounded by the people and things she loves. Unfortunately, due to horrible circumstances, normalcy is something that is impossible for her. Instead, she tries to make the most of the life she is given, shown in her dedication to protecting the people she loves and her determination to improve herself and become more like Alice. Even in the true end, when she discovers she is stuck 46 years in the future with no way back, she claims she is content, but unsettled, with this, because it means she has aided in the prolonging and preservation of humanity's existence in an alternate timeline. She lives by a creed that her brother has told her since she was little, regarding the meaning of the leaves of four leaf clovers; hope, faith, love, and luck. As she sees it, as long as she has hope, keeps faith, and remembers to love, her luck will be in her favor and she will prevail.
