APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN!
The next processing date is Friday 11th October

IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE

We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every two weeks, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. If you wish to request a specific apartment, please do so in the relevant part of the application. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Every attempt will be made to place a character in their chosen apartments, though this may not always be possible depending on the slots available.

Applications are open constantly, but are only processed every other Friday at 7PM EST. The Saturday following acceptance, an IC mingle log will be posted for characters to be introduced to the game.

We now have a test drive community at [community profile] haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old.

Name: Exxie.

Other Characters Played: n/a.
Preferred Apartment: None.

Character Name: Raziel. Also known as Galitzur, the Angel of Mysteries, and the Keeper of God's Secrets. Lately he goes by Izzy Weaver.
Background/History: Raziel is--you guessed it--originally from heaven. The youngest of the Archangels, God created Raziel when he realized that he was lonely. God is infallible, of course, but even the creator of everything occasionally needs to unburden himself. So it was with that thought in mind that Raziel was born. Despite being the youngest, his duties became quite heavy, indeed. It was his duty to stand beside or behind the heavenly throne, record all of God's counsels in book and memory. He listened when God needed to speak, silent and attentive, and through the uncounted ages, came to know much of what God himself knew.

God's love for mankind, therefore, became Raziel's love for them, as well. When not needed, he often spent time watching over them, seeing them grow as an infant species. Not all angels, however, were quite like Raziel. There were many who thought God had wasted his time creating such a flawed race, and others found they preferred the freedom of humanity over the strict laws of heaven. The Morning Star in particular chafed under God's rule, at once jealous of God's love for humans and admiring their race. Eventually, the dissent grew so great that Lucifer ignited war in heaven, fleeing to Earth. The fighting grew ugly, lasting years, then decades, then centuries, until the unthinkable happened-- and God was slain. Heaven shattered into factions, all vying to find a replacement to sit on the Throne. But with God dead, his secrets and wisdom and knowledge and power had died with him-- save for Raziel himself, and all that he had remembered and learned and recorded.

Knowing that he was vital to claimants to the Throne and in deep mourning for God, the state of heaven, and his brethren, Raziel ran, tearing away his own wings and most of his power and angelic grace with them. The action served a purpose, making him little more than human, himself-- and thus nearly untraceable by any angel.

He arrived in Rome at the height of the Empire, and spent the next two-thousand years or so running and hiding and surviving while heaven unraveled, rotting from the inside with war and corruption. It was in the year 2010, while Raziel was posing as a college student in New York, that he was finally discovered by followers of his brother Jegudiel. Disguised as humans to be unnoticed by other mortals, they attacked him on his way home from his classes. Raziel fought not to be taken, but it was a losing battle without his angelic power-- until a mortal man interceded, jumping into the fight to defend the former archangel. During the struggle, something awoke in the human man, and he not only fought the angelic attackers off, he completely destroyed them, leaving them nothing more than smoldering husks on the asphalt. Terrified of what he'd done and himself, he almost fled, but even injured, Raziel talked him into coming with him back to his little apartment. The Secret Keeper recognized something in this human, a secret that God had never shared with him-- God's own bloodline. And maybe, in the end, Raziel should have guessed as much. God had been all-knowing, after all. Of course he would have prepared for his own death.

The human turned out to be a thirty-eight year old widower by the name of Nathaniel 'Nate' Gates, and the only being in all of creation that Raziel personally chose to succeed God and end the war in heaven. Unfortunately, word found its way back to heaven, and several of the factions descended to earth to attempt to find and kill Nate before Raziel could place him on the Throne, as well as capture Raziel himself. Thus, the war finally made its way to earth. Humanity, understandably, panicked when ranks of angelic soldiers descended into major cities across the world. Chaos ensued, religious fervor taking hold throughout parts of the world as some began calling it Armageddon. Other humans, entire governments, fought back, attacking the heavenly armies with conventional forces and even resorting to nuclear war in an effort to keep the planet.

In all this, Nate and Raziel moved from place to place, eventually settling in a large resistance group, where Nate finally, truly began to accept his destiny as a leader. He began to rise in the ranks, learning from and desperately protecting Raziel, as Raziel used everything in his power to protect Nate, as well. Now, in 2013, Nate is the leader of their group, but earth is slowly becoming a wasteland. Their only hope at this point seems to be to attempt to ally with Lucifer, to bring the Morning Star's powerful army to their side.

Personality: Raziel has a lot of layers, but the first impression people tend to have of him is that he's a little clumsy, scatter-brained, cheerful, but.. kind of sad underneath it all. As the angel of mysteries, Raziel's primary purpose was to gather information, and he still does it. He doesn't have the kind of infinite, angelic brain he used to have, though, so he doesn't always have enough room in his head for things like remembering to eat, or wearing matching socks, or sleeping. He gets distracted and confused, he often forgets things, and more often than not, he seems to be off in his own little world.

Ultimately, Raziel is a very gentle person by nature, sweet and a little fragile. He's been through a lot since arriving on earth, and not all of it has been pleasant. One would think, then, that he'd have plenty of excuse to hate humanity and earth and pretty much everything, but he clings to his love with all his might. He's aware that not all humans are like the nasty few, just as he's aware that his brothers aren't bad. Anyone would have been tempted to say fuck it, though, and Raziel came close a couple of times.

With that said, it takes a lot to piss him off. In fact, at this point, about the only thing that will do it is for someone to hurt Nate. When he does lose his temper, people quickly remember that he was once an archangel, because he can be terrifying. In anger, he's focused, intense, and he's not afraid to use whatever of his secrets he needs to in order to get what he needs or wants. Thankfully, of course, like I said-- it takes hurting Nate (and badly) to anger him that much.

Unsurprisingly, given his long exile and the events of his life, melancholy has become a part of him. It's the constant, unchanging thread that the rest of his personality has been built on. He misses his home and his brothers, he misses their father, and he's exhausted and lonely. He's tired of running, tired of hiding, and it's only since meeting Nate that any of that's begun to change. Nate has been Raziel's breath of fresh air, and the human man's no-nonsense attitude and patience have helped Raziel toward recovery.

That isn't to say, though, that the former angel isn't pleasant to be around, because he is. He's normally quite positive, cheerful, bright. He always tries to find the bright side, because frankly, that's the only way he's been able to stay sane for so long. He has a good sense of humour, especially about himself. He knows how clumsy he can be, and knows how absent-minded he is, and isn't afraid to use that both to lighten Nate when he's too serious, and to disarm and mislead people. He's accustomed to protecting his secrets from those who would take them, and it's amazing what a little babbling can do to distract people from uncomfortable or leading questions.

Unfortunately, because he has so much information shoved inside a brain that's no longer equipped to hold it, it can be extremely painful some days. At his worst, he can spend days at a time curled in a corner somewhere in agony, but he's terrified to medicate in case he forgets something or accidentally reveals something he's been charged with keeping. Between this and his absentmindedness, he often comes across as a little nervous, easily startled, and a bit birdlike.

Abilities/Powers: Once, Raziel was an angel, the closest to God in terms of knowledge. Since destroying his wings and most of what made him an angel, however, his power levels are considerably different. He's immortal and can't be killed, but he can be injured, and often has been in the many years since he arrived on earth. He keeps much of what he knows in a kind of metaphysical book, which is basically all that remains of his angelic power. As long as he's in contact with it, he can cast 'magic' (though it's really just a power reserve that allows him to use enough energy to manipulate the world around him as he needs to. there are no 'words' or 'writing' in the book, and when manifest, it only vaguely resembles a book, as it's not a truly physical object). He prefers not to use it, however, as its power is enough to send out a clear signal to other angels. Also, as the Secret Keeper, it's.. pretty much impossible to keep one from him. All secret knowledge finds its way to him eventually, but all that information tends to clutter up his brain, so he often doesn't realize that he knows something until he's prompted by a question.
Items/Weapons: His book (the Sefer Raziel HaMalach), a photograph he keeps of he and Nate, and a steel baseball bat. .. He's not much of a fighter, but Nate insists he keep it on him.
Sample Entry: [ the figure in the video is (probably?) male, but maybe a girl. it's kind of hard to tell at first, honestly, because he's quite pretty, with sun-darkened skin and long dark hair. the black eyes are a little.. strange, though, discomforting in some way, and he's obviously seen some shit in his life, because there are scars on his bare arms, on his throat, one on his temple-- most of them are old and faded.

he looks a little strained and exhausted, trembling faintly, but his gaze is sharp (for once). ]

What are the odds? [ a pause, as if expecting an answer, before blinking. oh, right. ] That is, the odds of-- Well, there are-- [ another pause, lifting a hand to his temple, wincing and tapping his knuckles against the bone there. ] Damn. Forgive me, Father. .. It's about Nate. My Nate, that is. Not-- Not yours, if you have one. I need to get back to Nate immediately, please and thank you very kindly.

[ the knuckles transfer to the corner of his eye, rubbing it tiredly. ]

It's all so cluttered right now. Nate always.. [ knows what to say, but he's lost the words at the moment. there's a long pause, as if he's gotten lost again, but finally, he breathes in sharply through the nose. ] 'Safe together', as if anywhere at all is safe. If it isn't my brothers, it's-- whatever this is. But I suppose the one who began it will want it to end now, don't you suppose..?

[ he sets the phone down, and a skewed view of him is visible as he folds his arms, dropping his head down onto them. ]

.. It's cluttered.

Sample Entry Two: Raziel was aware that some part of him was screaming in panic, but to be honest, he was rather proud of himself for how calm he thought he was managing to appear. Granted, he wasn't entirely certain that his request to the network had been precisely coherent, but hopefully someone somewhere out there had some vague idea of what he'd been trying to say. If not, he supposed he could wait until later, once there wasn't so much information cluttering up the forefront of his thoughts. Normally, of course, Nate was there to help him through it, to calm him down, and admittedly, Raziel has become a little spoiled by it. After all, it's not as if he'd had a Nate for most of his life on earth; he'd had to survive quite on his own, learning to deal with his new life, protecting his knowledge. To think, he would have continued on the same way, or perhaps he would have been captured and would now belong to one of his brothers, had the human man not interfered that night. In some ways, he rather thought it would have been for the best if Nate had left well enough alone-- the human man was under so much stress, had such a heavy burden on his shoulders. It hurt Raziel to see it, to be unable to do more for him.

Pain shot up his fingers, and he glanced down, noting with absent dismay that he'd torn his cuticles open again, leaving his nails bloody. Nate would have rolled his eyes at him, taken him aside and wrapped them in bandaids. But Raziel didn't currently have the presence of mind to do so. Instead, he stuck one of them in his mouth, sucking away the blood as he rose restlessly, pacing the floor on bare, silent feet.

He needed to leave, to go back home. Maybe if this were twenty years ago, he might have been excited to be here. His brothers weren't present, after all, and his secrets would be safe. But now..? Now, he didn't need another world's secrets pushing their way into his already overtaxed brain. .. At least he wasn't in much pain at the moment. Granted, it was likely only a brief reprieve, but there was always the chance that on another world in another universe, he wouldn't be required to act as the Secret Keeper.

What a novel notion.

At this point in Raziel's life, with Nate's existence providing hope for it, his goal has primarily become to end the war. As Lucifer was the catalyst for it in the first place, and as Raziel's oldest and most powerful brother, he'd be a powerhouse on their side if he could be convinced to join them. He never stopped loving Lucifer, he simply couldn't stand with him when he turned on their father. Raziel is hoping that Nate will be the combination of heavenly and earthly that will win Lucifer over in the end, since it's far more likely that with Nate on the Throne, things in heaven will be considerably different than they were during God's reign. (He's also hoping that Lucifer wants to go home as badly as he himself does.)

Again, since Raziel's ultimate goal is to end the war and hopefully go home, at this point, he's not really thinking about what it means for him personally once their goal is met. His affection and faith in Nate also play a lot into his desire to put the human man on the Throne, and provided it actually happens and Nate truly grows into his power, well.. he'll be the new God. What that ultimately means is that what was broken, Nate will be able to fix, and Raziel believes that eventually, he'll be healed and restored to what he was.

When he really stops to think about it, though, he understands that he'll never truly be the same. He's lived like a human for over two-thousand years. He thinks a lot like a human, he feels the way a human does, and he loves the way a human does, so a part of him is a little scared to become an archangel again. He doesn't really know what it will mean for his relationship with Nate, and he doesn't want to lose what they have.

I hope this answers your questions!
