Applications Two

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED!
The next application opening date is Friday 16th January, 7pm EST.
The next application processing date is Friday 23rd January, 7pm EST.

IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE

We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.

We now have a test drive community at [community profile] haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.

While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

To see what we are looking for:

(2/3)

[personal profile] batmask 2014-10-12 10:32 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:

Taciturn and disciplined, Gerome won't win any awards for sociability. If made to choose where he wants to be, he would choose the mountains after setting his wyvern free. He prefers to stay alone and train than bond with others. While he does not often start conversations, he doesn't mince his words when he talks. He's blunt. He does not hold back on his judgment and criticisms. (For example, he called Inigo a "male floozy" and gave unsolicited fighting advice to Kjelle.) He likes being alone. He will insist in being alone. He may be prompted to make speeches about being a lone wolf.

Like all of the second generation characters from the game, Gerome's motivations include preventing the death of his parents. He is also motivated by avoiding the pain of losing more of his loved ones. He had a happy childhood with Cherche, his father, and their wyvern and Cherche's mount, Minerva. But the war happened, his parents had to participate and one day, only Minerva came back. He was deeply shaken by these events. Minerva is his only family, and the only creature he feels comfortable enough to show his softer side. (He even calls her Minervykins, which is also his mother's nickname for it.) He treats everyone else with the same cold treatment, including his parents from the past. He acknowledges the fact that his parents from the past won't be his parents from the future (since those people never met him and his time-traveling cohorts), and that even if he helped prevent their deaths in this timeline, his real parents won't magically come back to life.

But despite his mask and despite his tediously crafted uncaring persona, Gerome is actually very emotional. That's mainly why he chose to wear the mask in the first place. (His other reasons are: because it's cool, because he was a fan of heroes and because he just really likes masks.) His mask conveniently covers his cheeks and his eyes. If it weren't for that mask, he'd be shown crying and blushing for a bulk of the game. He sees his own emotions as weaknesses that can easily be exploited by the enemy. Everyone else can be as emotional as they want as long as they don't screw up during a fight.

Gerome does what he can to prevent his loved ones from getting hurt in his own way: by keeping tabs on what they're doing. Like his mother, he has a habit of silently watching people. For all his lone wolf speeches, he's quite a busybody who's so used to having people freak out when they spot him that he takes it as a normal conversation starter. And the support that he provides his friends isn't just battle related. He supports their talents (i.e. Inigo's dancing), their wild fantasies (i.e. Cynthia's Justice Cabal as long as she doesn't drag him to do it again), their potentially life-threatening decisions (i.e. Lucina going back to the past, he even lent her a mask) and is actually very weak to their tears even if they might be crying over something he finds stupid (i.e. Inigo over getting rejected for the nth time by a woman). If it weren't for his mask, Gerome would be one of the most obviously emotional 2nd generation character. He's also a huge softie when it comes to his wyvern. He calls Minerva his "Minervykins", a nickname it got from his mother. He might have inherited Cherche's taste in cute things. Those cute things include the following: caterpillars, huge spikes on clothing, wyverns and borderline Eldritch abominations.

In one of Gerome's throwaway lines in the game, he states hating being lost in his own thoughts. That's why if he's not looking after people, he's either training, grooming his wyvern or sewing. Because at the end of the day, this masked loner is a sweet mama's boy who has a hard time coping over her death.

Abilities/Powers:

Gerome will be taken a chapter before his game ends, so he will be a wyvern lord.

As a wyvern lord, he can ride dragons into battle, if soever he finds and tames one. His preferred weapons are axes. He will come equipped with the following skills:

Tantivy: He'll be able to evade attacks better when he's alone.
Quickburn: He'll have better evasion at the start of the battle that gradually decreases over time.
Deliverer: Having another person riding on a mount with him would spurn him to move faster.
Swordbreaker: He won't be hit or damaged by swords as much as other weapons would.
Lancebreaker: He won't be hit or damaged by swords as much as other weapons would.

Wyvern lords are weak against artillery and wind magic attacks.

He also possesses the aptitude to become a priest (a healer class that can use staffs), a war cleric (a healer class that can use axes), a sage (a mage class that can use both staffs and magic tomes), a fighter (an infantry class that can use axes), a warrior (an infantry class that can use axes and bows) or a hero (an infantry class that can use axes and swords). But just because he can learn magic doesn't mean that he'll be good at it.

Items/Weapons: his clothes, a silver pole-axe, two extra masks, a sewing kit, emergency wyvern feed dried meat

Background/History: Gou Matsuoka - wikia
gouforgold: ([ a n d ? ])

[personal profile] gouforgold 2014-10-12 01:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality: For Gou Matsuoka, personality is not something one necessarily notices first. More likely, one is bound to notice her actions -- peculiar ones perhaps for a decidedly not athletic girl, considering said actions culminate in her joining the Swim Club. Granted, she joins as a manager, but even so it makes one's head tilt until the reason of why comes into play.

Exhibit A: Rin Matsuoka, older (though not by much) brother, and object of much worry for Gou over the years. Despite being the slightly younger sibling, Gou has reputedly been the one in the vantage of Worried and Watchful since her brother left for Australia and each year that he came home. Having witnessed his shift from joy to something burdened and unhappy, when Rin finally returned 'for good' Gou made a decision: to see him smile again.

It's over simplifying to say she joined and then saw the Swim Club through for Rin alone. That would be inaccurate; Gou is a bridge between her brother and his friends, but Gou is also her own person. She has her own investments and commitments to the team, and demonstrates all of this by working out their regimens for them, as well as working hard to keep the Club alive at all. She is open and inclined to connecting with the team members not just as memories but as people who are important in the present, and she believes in her team with all her heart.

Interestingly enough, at one point Gou expresses that she had wanted -- truly -- to se her brother swim with Haruka and the others, rather than against them, but considering her contribution and time with the team, she also understands the good even the latter might do. She knows Rin is missing something or had been, and she facilitates the act of finding whatever it is he lost as best she can while comprehending that it is not something she herself can give him directly. This seems to be something Rei understands too, and worth noting since in the end both of them are more or less audience-members to a finale long in the making.

Gou's directness is subtle at times -- reconnaissance on her brother (or something) mostly -- and a hammer-to-the-head at others -- swim practice mostly. Stubborn and insistent, she is not the person likely to let people slide away from things she thinks they need to face. Her ability to read subtleties is more finely attuned to Rin, courtesy of knowing him their whole lives and also living on the outskirts of his intents anyway, but given enough time with people, they can be applied elsewhere too. An over-arching significance about Gou however is that despite being (like most everyone else in this series) a high school kid, she will shift from 4-year old mode (mostly with Nagisa) to someone rather older than her given 16. This can be attributed arguably to a few things, but mostly it seems fair to say some of it is due to the early loss of their father and the quiet independence of a house occupied only by herself and their mother for some years.

That all said, Gou has an overall buoyant sensibility. She would rather believe something is possible than count anyone out, and she will fight for that particular liberty -- not just for herself but for others she cares about. Sometimes it is a simultaneously covert/overt operation as it was with Rin's happiness, but other times it is as simple as encouraging her team. She has a sense of self and an air of being grounded, even while demonstrating such a bright sensibility.

Side notes: she has one friend outside of the club and her brother's teammates named Chigusa Hanamura. They are often seen together and Chigusa even attends the competitions with her. Their relationship is not much gone into other than the showing rather than telling of their interactions, but the fact that Gou only seems to keep one specific friend outside of the others suggests that she 1. is not exactly a social butterfly; and/or 2. that even if she was, her choice to dedicate herself to the Swim Club (and presumably her own studies) takes precedent. Another thing: several times Gou is complimented as 'cute' but both in season one and two she seems to accept this politely and wide eyed but nothing much else. This isn't to say she's unfeeling or unreceptive, but only that again it seems being complimented as such (or even potentially sought after) is not high on her agenda -- little specifics to make up Gou's character. Finally, she does have her own superficiality in her admiration of muscles; it doesn't have to be anyone she knows. If you have nice ones, she will not only notice but probably comment too, herself, but it's funny and probably important to note that it's never more than a sparkling applause -- never a come-on, never an askance to be noticed for having given said compliments. She just thinks you're super fit and isn't that lovely....!

Sample Entry Two:

Trust the water. These are words that better suit Nanase Haruka, but she hears them in her brother's voice -- her brother's voice no longer so overwrought by their late father's dream, her brother's voice now more his own than it has been in ages. Gou watches the joint-practice with Samezuka and Iwatobi critically, watching for the weaknesses and strengths she both knows are there and perhaps has never noticed before. This is what managing comes down to. Ideally, one day, she would like to learn for herself, but as things stand, it serves her purpose to simply apply what she has long-learned from watching her brother.

Rin is not that much older than her. Maybe, she supposes distantly sometimes, this is why it is so easy to slip into a role otherwise suited for an elder sibling. Between the two of them, growing up had more to do with independence than reliance, somehow managing to be aware and caring without holding hands. Her hands adjust absently on the clipboard, one picking at the pen chained to it as if considering a note worth adding. It is incredible, the difference in her brother now from only months ago, and here her eyes slide softly from Rin to Rin's rival and friend, Haru.

To Gou, Haru is 'Haruka-senpai', and to Rin, he is something else altogether; she knows. It is part of why she is here at all. For one reason or another -- incomparable swimming talent and aptitude surely being one of those -- Rin seems to have catalyzed most strongly with, or because of, Haru. On the surface, a stranger might not understand, but Gou sees it clearly enough: her brother has long sought to become the best and Haru in many ways embodies this. Shy of racing the water itself, Rin probably could not do much better than this.

She refocuses back on Rin and looks for their father in him, but she is not the least bit surprised to find the big picture looking only like Rin. It's not her soft memory in regards to dad; for all his brevity in their life, she somehow recalls him quite sharply. But that's how some memories are: short, real, permanent. To take the place of all that time where they do not exist at all.

Her brother's dream is his own; Rin is his own. Father rest in peace, she thinks; he's going to be alright.

Brow raising as she watches Haru's turnaround, she can't help the wide smile lighting up her own features. It's true what Rei has said on multiple occasions -- how striking, how stunning the swimming natural's entire way is. It has no better word, she thinks, than that -- not just a style but a way the manner in which people often refer to a 'way' of life. Without looking at her brother's lane, she knows he's keeping pace. Haru seems to be a smidgeon ahead; good, she thinks. After all, brother or not, Rin can't forget this: Gou is Iwatobi's manager, and there is no point in a manager of any club whose goal is anything other than to win. Granted, not at the sacrifice of other things -- joy, foremost -- but prevalent. Very.

In her bag: a book on swimming -- her fifth of the year so far, a spiral notebook of regimen plans, an Iwatobi bird mascot-toy-thing which she keeps meaning to turn into a keychain, and a photograph pinned to the inside of the notebook. That picture frames all the swim club members, plus her brother. She keeps meaning to get one of all of them with Ama-chan and Sasabe-san too...soon. Soon.

She blinks and this set is over in that split second, Haru suddenly lifting himself out of the water with the hand proffered by Makoto -- something which, at this point, seems to Gou a sort of tradition she would feel strange to go without. Funny how even on the sidelines, investment can be a hundred percent. She wonders if Rei has any of that sentiment, despite being an actual swimming participant; she wonders if he's alright with that. Offside, Nagisa launches himself at Makoto's side and almost sends both the backstroke expert and Haru back into the pool tangled and triple-limbed. As it is, they stumble in the huddle and then break into laughter which has Gou smiling all over again.

When Rei joins, and her brother too, she can't help it, she slips her phone out to snap a quick picture. As many times as the lot of them are happy -- to swim, to swim together -- she wants to treasure it as is appropriate of precious things. Photos, even taken on questionable phone cameras, equate to one such way of doing this.

So, naturally, she takes one more for good measure.

[personal profile] airborn 2014-10-12 04:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality:
(I'll be playing from the books, but with some details from the movies to fill in the blanks!)

At first, Rue's quietness paints her as a weaker, passive tribute for that year's Hunger Games, but once she allies herself with Katniss, it's clear that she is nothing like that. Being cautious and observant are actually traits that helps her survive both in her district, and in the Hunger Games. As Katniss realizes later, life is much harder in District 11 than in District 12; a misstep in District 11 could result in a severe whipping or even death, which could account for Rue's general skittishness around strangers. Like Katniss, Rue understands the importance of keeping out of sight and keeping your talents secret in a dangerous situation. Rather than showing off at the Training Center like the career tributes do, Rue follows Katniss and Peeta's lead, going from station to station and learning new things. While Katniss, and possibly the other tributes, notice Rue's very agile and good with a slingshot, none of them ever suspect she's capable of leaping from tree to tree with ease. This ability, coupled with her tendency to watch from a distance rather than engage, allows her to obtain valuable information on the other tributes while remaining shielded from their eyes. Like she tells Caesar during her interview: "If they can't catch me, they can't kill me." Rue knows what she is and isn't good at, and that's what turns her cautiousness into a strength rather than a weakness.

Once Rue and Katniss form an alliance, Rue opens up to her, revealing a cheerful and kind girl that she had kept hidden all that time before. Living in District 11 might have taught Rue to be careful, but it's also taught her to appreciate the things in life that bring her happiness. While she's with Katniss, she doesn't try to keep a distance, but laughs openly at anything that amuses her. Though Rue is only twelve, she is the eldest of many siblings, and like Katniss, looks after her family as best she can. Even when food is already scarce for her--she tells Katniss she's never had a leg of Groosling to herself before--she's willing to give up her portion of rations to her younger siblings if they need it. And, despite the severe punishments the District 11 officials deal out, Rue tells Katniss she often went foraging illegally in the meadow to find more food for her family. Amazingly, her kindness isn't limited to her family alone. Rue is known for alerting the other workers when the flag signaling the end of the work day in the district goes up, though she doesn't benefit from helping the others. In a district where the work conditions are harsh, and they are occasionally forced to work through the night, getting even a little more rest time is something precious. Then, when Katniss tells Rue to take the sleeping bag when they split up, Rue asks "What about you?" instead of taking it immediately. Considering how cold the nights had been in the Arena, and the tributes are expected to kill each other in the Games, this is a remarkable gesture of kindness. In the end, Rue might be wary around the other tributes--and rightfully so--but Rue loves deeply and puts those that matter to her before herself.

Caring too deeply about something as Rue does, of course, comes with its own consequences. When Rue starts caring about something enough, she ends up being too reckless, or too trusting in some cases, which cancels out the advantage her cautiousness gives her. Rue's reason for trusting Katniss in the first place ties in with her sentimentality. Loving music and the mockingjays that mimic her songs back in District 11 as she does, Rue delights in the mockingjay pin that Katniss wears into the games, shadowing and helping Katniss because of it. Though Rue, fortunately, finds a trustworthy friend in Katniss, she took an unnecessary risk because of something that reminded her of home, and the result could have been her death had it been any other Tribute.

Another trait that her cautiousness can sometimes hides is her mischievousness. Rue loves teasing once she feels she's not in danger, like the way she teases Katniss about Peeta while they share a meal. She also enjoys playing a practical joke or two--and sometimes, those pranks reveal the slightly more ruthless side to her that growing up in Panem has cultivated. Though Rue doesn't seem to like violence in general, she's also practical about letting the other Tributes (particularly the Careers) just duke it out; she grew up in the Districts, after all, and she knows exactly what the Games are about. Like many from the Districts, Rue has a dislike for the Tributes who come from the Career districts, since they actually enjoy the Games and often team up in a "Career pack" to slaughter the other Tributes. When she steals one of the Career's knives in the training area, she's perfectly content watching him blame another Career for it and let the animosity between them build. This side of her comes out again when she warns Katniss about the tracker jackers while they're both hiding from the Career pack. Though Katniss is the one who decides to drop the nest onto the Careers in the books, it's Rue who gives her the idea in the movies. Though the scene changes depending on which version you take, in neither one does Rue stop Katniss from using the deadly wasps against the Careers. Not to mention, Rue helps Katniss destroy the Careers' food and supplies in both versions. All of these actions point to someone who may not directly attack other Tributes, but sees the necessity in doing these things for survival in the Games.

Character Name: Cassandra Cain
Canon: DC Comics
Canon Point: Batgirl issue 67, right before she jumps out of a moving plane while riding a motorcycle. Like you do.
Background/History: here
hellofist: (let's see)

[personal profile] hellofist 2014-10-12 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality: Outwardly, the appearance of Batgirl is quite intimidating. Every inch of her skin is covered by her suit, with the mouth piece stitched on to add to the creep factor. It's not an image that screams please be my friend, but underneath that cowl there's the seldomly seen dorky teenage girl side. She sneaks into other people's apartments to steal their snacks and use up all their hot water, she watches horror movies to learn better ways to stalk and scare the bad guys, and she constantly quotes things she's heard on tv, much to the chagrin of people who expect her to be adjusting to living in a modern setting by doing something other than using examples set by reality shows. She's kind of a nerd out of the Batgirl uniform and it's something that often gets passed over in favor of having to look as scary as she does in costume.

She has her moments of insecurities, she wants to have the normal experiences she missed out on growing up. When she first meets the Nightwing and Robin, she's friendly and eager to make friends with them and curious about them. She's very sweet and determined to be a good person since finding out what her father had been training her all along to become.

After killing her first "target", Cass read his dying thoughts and immediately knew she could never do it again. She ran away and when Barbara took her in and introduced her to Bruce, it was like a new start. They didn't know about her training or her past, just accepted her strangeness and her gave her something that would quickly become incredibly important to her: they became her family.

But she still carried a lot of guilt for that first kill, to the point where the only way she knew how to cope with it was to put herself in danger for the sake of other people as often as possible and not caring if she lived or died in the process. Bruce accurately identified this behavior as her having a death wish. Her compassion and guilt kept her from forgiving herself for years, but with the help of her new family she's learned to focus on what she's doing in the present to make up for her mistakes.

Still very driven, she spent every night out in Gotham protecting the city with or without Batman. She took her job very seriously, was willing to die to protect people and even putting herself in the path of bullets because she knew her body could take it instead of letting others get hurt. This time it was less about wanting to die to pay for what she had done. Now, she was determined to see every person, innocent or not, live their life through to a natural end. If she wasn't out patrolling she was training, either alone or with Stephanie Brown, who quickly became her best friend.

She still feels a lot of shame about not being able to read, but has been shown trying to teach herself. She learned to string together basic words, but when Barbara called her stupid under pressure, it seemed to put a stopper to her willingness to learn. She's very insistent she isn't stupid, and she's not, but being forced to look at the fact that she's lacking such basic knowledge hurt enough to cause her to push Barbara away for months.

Cass still has a lot to learn about the opposite sex and her own sexuality in general. It wasn't until she was 18 that she had her first exposure to lust and desire and it wasn't something she enjoyed feeling at first. She dated Superboy for a short period of time and fell very hard for Black Wind, a freedom fighter who was killed before their relationship could really be explored. It wasn't until she left Bludhaven for good that she had her first makeout session and possibly more with Zero, a boy from Bludhaven who had been stalking her a little. She's still very naive when it comes to romance and tends to cycle through periods of wanting a relationship, wanting to explore her sexuality, and focusing on her work.

Once she was given full reign over Bludhaven, Cassandra really came into her own. She started exploring what it was to be Cass Cain, not just Batgirl. She made friends who had nothing to do with Bruce Wayne, even went to parties, and was excited to see herself "volving" and coming into her own. She was proud that Batman trusted her enough to find her own way.

Abilities/Powers:

Peak Human Conditioning: As a child Cass was trained every day to be perfect. She fought groups of people and could take them down without getting so much as a scratch on her, and in the time since then her abilities have only improved. She's the strongest fighter in the world in DC land, with the highest possible levels of strength, stamina, and speed that a human can have. She isn't a metahuman and has no super powers, but she's good enough that there was a whole issue devoted to making sure she WAS just human.

Martial Arts and Weapons Training: She knows every form of martial arts there is, and can learn new ones just by watching someone else do just a few moves. Her father trained her to use every single deadly weapon and she's a master at all of them. She's also incredibly adept at stealth, able to follow people at a close enough enough proximity to touch them without being heard or noticed.

Hand-to-Hand Combat: But she doesn't need a weapon to kill you. She knows every pressure point and has the strength to kill in one punch. She holds back to avoid exactly that, fighting with only a portion of her strength because killing people is something she's sworn to never do.

Body Reading Ability: Cass can read body language to the point where all someone has to do is twitch and she knows their next attack, what their intention is, and even if they're lying or afraid. She can read people who are far faster than she is, along with non-humans and even alien lifeforms once she is given a chance to learn their body language. Because of this, even if someone is disguised she'll still know who they are if she's seen them before.

Investigation: She has some training in this, thanks to Batman and Tim Drake making sure she could handle detective work. She's competent, but it still is something she could improve on.

High Pain Tolerance: The ability to feel pain was conditioned out of her through what basically amounts to torture. She can be shot and not feel it and can continue to fight through what should be mortal injuries until exhaustion wins out or she wins. It's usually the latter.

Items/Weapons: her Batsuit, with utility belt and batgrapple. That's all!

Canon Point: Around the end of the first season of the anime, so that would be after the Libra Festival.
Background/History: Here, but it’s missing half of her history so I’ll continue on from where the wiki left off.

Serara appeared again during the Round Table Conference arc, as one of the members of the Crescent Moon Alliance that accompanied Guild Master Maryelle to the conference. With Henrietta, she watched the proceedings to its conclusion, whereupon the Round Table Alliance of Akihabara was formed.

Soon after, the Round Table Alliance held a summer training camp for newbies of Elder Tale at the insistence of Maryelle (who really just wanted to go to the beach for fun), and Serara joined the camp, since she was only level 19. They made their way to the Sand Leaf Peninsula, where she was sorted into a party of five to tackle the Ragranda Forest, a dungeon that was suitable for players around her level.

With enthusiasm, her party, consisting of Minori the Kannagi, Tohya the Samurai, Rundelhaus the Sorcerer and Isuzu the Bard, tackled the dungeon, but their team quickly fell apart and they were forced to retreat. This repeated for another day, much to their growing frustration, until Minori spoke up and got the team to sit down and talk about their abilities, skills and preferred strategies. Once everyone got an idea of the skills their party members could use and developed appropriate strategies, they began progressing through the dungeon with relative ease, even managing to beat a powerful monster within the dungeon.

Unfortunately, their training camp was cut short when the Return of the Goblin King event was triggered. Goblins and sahuagins began to invade the Sand Leaf peninsula and threaten the nearby town of Choushi. With the veterans’ approval, Serara’s party decide to launch a pre-emptive attack on the invading goblins and wiped out several groups of goblins on their own. The group of newbies and their veteran teachers continue to hold down the fort for another day or so. However, the number of goblins began overwhelming them, especially when the goblins were joined by other monsters, and desperate, Rundelhaus sacrificed himself to protect the party.

At this point, it was revealed that Rundelhaus was a People of the Land. Unlike Adventurers, whom the rest of the party were, People of the Land didn’t revive at the cathedral once they died. So the party attempted anything they could to revive Rundelhaus. Serara and Minori both attempted to use revival spells on Rundelhaus, but they didn’t work fully. As a last resort Minori called Shiroe for help, and he arrived at their location minutes later. He swore them all to secrecy about what he was going to do to revive Rundelhaus. With the use of an item and some tricky healing spells, he managed to get Rudy to regain consciousness for long enough to have him sign a contract that would set his sub-class to Adventurer and grant him the ability to revive at the cathedral.

Following that, the Round Table Alliance, at the request of Rayneshia (whom the League of Freedom Cities Eastal insist was acting on her own), crushed the goblin invasion. For a month after, the goblins were held at bay while the Round Table Alliance and Eastal formed treaties. A ball was held with many Adventurers, Serara included, in attendance. There, she told Nyanta that she had her responsibilities in the Crescent Moon Alliance and thus couldn’t join Log Horizon, as much as she wanted to. Nyanta then asked her for a dance.

The Round Table Alliance then held the Libra Festival in Akihabara, designed to showcase the products the crafting guilds were producing. Serara worked with the rest of the Crescent Moon Alliance to set up their booth and later appeared in the festival as one of the models for the fashion showcase, and took a lunch break with Nyanta on the second day of the Libra Festival. Soon after the Libra Festival was the After Halloween Athletic Festival, which Serara competed fiercely in for the pumpkin dinner party with Nyanta. Then, with Maryelle, Henrietta and the rest of the Log Horizon guild, she learned that Shiroe intended to leave Akihabara for an unspecified amount of time and an unspecified reason.

And then everything after that is really Season 2 stuff and thus irrelevant because I’m taking her from the end of Season 1!

Personality:
Serara is a shy, conflict-avoiding teenager, whose appearance and behaviour make her appear younger than the teenage years of 15-16 she actually is. She has a cute, round face with big eyes, and tends to look up to the adult players for guidance and instruction, much like an unsure child. Even her class and subclass belie her peaceful and helping nature, as she chose the healer class Druid and subclass Housekeeper. Later on, in her party of five, she becomes the one who tries to stop in-fighting, more evidence of her conflict-avoiding nature. Finally, her goal when joining Elder Tale had been to become a shopkeeper, so she had no intention of participating in the battling and fighting that are a huge part of MMOs. It's not to say she's completely adverse to fighting to the point that she refuses to participate; she just prefers not to fight if it's not necessary.

When she's first introduced in the series, she's being chased by the ruthless and rowdy guild Brigandia, who wanted to make her their servant or sell her to slavery. For this to happen right after being sent into an unknown world without anyone to help was a nightmare to the meek girl. However, she's rescued by Nyanta, a middle-aged, polite and gentlemanly were-cat player. He lets her stay in his house, which protects her from the guild chasing her, until she's rescued by Shiroe and his party. His rescuing her and his kind and polite personality causes Serara to develop a massive crush on him, and from then on she looks to Nyanta for guidance, approval and motivation. It wouldn't be an understatement to say that Nyanta occupies Serara's thoughts over 75% of the time.

This crush is rather obvious to anyone who interacts with Serara while she's next to Nyanta. She's very expressive, making a wide assortment of faces and expressions while she's thinking to herself. This expressiveness extends to her other emotions as well, as she doesn't make much effort to hide when she's worried or happy, or relieved. She has yet to encounter a reason to hide her emotions, and she's probably unaware that she's that obvious to read, so she doesn't make any attempt to school her expressions. To accompany her expressiveness, she has a rather active imagination. When she doesn't have a task that needs to be focused on, she has a tendency to think and daydream to herself, such as when she imagined she was not a housekeeper, but "a housewife waiting for her cat-husband to come home" in Susukino. She also thought about how Nyanta was a "bichuunen" and how she was kind of fat in comparison, while she was eating dinner next to him.

Due to her helpful nature, Serara is the type that always likes to be doing something. If there is nothing to do, she finds something to do even if it's rather mundane. When she was hiding in Nyanta's house in Susukino, she wound up cleaning Nyanta's house so many times that the house sparkled and she became Level 44 in her Housekeeper subclass. While subclasses don't require the same amount of EXP as the main classes do, it's still an impressive number. Even when she's rescued and a party is held in her name back in Akihabara, she goes around serving drinks and food to her fellow guild mates instead of relaxing and enjoying the party. She also tends to become dismayed when what she's doing isn't helping at all. At her low level of 19 in Susukino, her healing spells had barely done anything to the Level 90 players she was healing, and she had been rather upset by that.

Serara also has a strong sense of responsibility, which pairs well with her helpful nature. Even when she wanted nothing more than to leave the Moon Crescent Alliance to join Log Horizon and be with Nyanta and the rest of her party, she chose to stay in her current guild, as she had the responsibility of guiding the newbie players rescued from Hamelin. During the battle for Choushi against the goblins and sahuagins, she agreed with Minori and the party members who wanted to protect the Lander town from danger. Unlike Adventurers, Landers were mostly low leveled and defenseless. Since her party had the power, they should go protect the town even there was a high chance of death in the process. If there is something she must and can do that will help others, then she's willing to do it even if it means doing something she doesn't want to do. So in total, Serara is a shy but helpful, expressive and imaginative girl. If something needs to be done and she can do it, she will even if she has to sacrifice what she really wants for it.

Abilities/Powers:
Log Horizon takes place in a MMO-esque world, where all characters have classes, stats, skills and abilities, etc. Serara is a level 25 Druid at her canon point. Since the level cap is 100, this means she’s rather weak compared to many other characters in the world of Log Horizon, and would be considered a newbie, as she still receives the EXP Pots designed to allow newbies to level faster to enjoy the game.

The druid specializes in Heal over Time moves, but can also use defensive and offensive magic spells, and can control the forest. Their weakness is that the spells tend to take a large chunk of MP, so druids need to watch their MP consumption. Each class can also further specialize in different ways to reflect the type of fighter the player wants to be. Serara uses a Witch Doctor build, which is classified as a Recovery Support type. This means she focuses mainly on healing rather than attack.

A full list of druid abilities is here. Since she’s a low-leveled Druid, she doesn’t have full access to all the spells listed on the wiki. The ones she’s been shown to use are listed below:

Heal: Your standard healing spell. It’s a basic move for any healing/support type class, so it heals at a rather slow rate.
Healing Wind: A longer lasting healing spell, it’s still one of the more basic healing moves and therefore does not heal much.
Heartbeat Healing: A regeneration spell that regenerates the target’s HP every second for 15 seconds.
Nature Revive: A resurrection spell that has a long casting time, consumes a lot of MP and has a cool down time of 300 seconds. It’s not very useful on the battlefield. It also has a strong heal over time effect, so larger wounds can be healed by this move. In terms of Haven, this revival spell should work to allow anyone who’s knocked out to regain consciousness. As well, if the body has not sustained severely debilitating injuries like, say, their head got chopped off, I believe the revival spell should actually be able to revive them. If there’s an issue with this, please let me know!
Dismissal: An attack spell. It seems to be an anime only spell since it’s not listed on the wiki, and I really have no idea what it does. Probably produces a wave of energy within the immediate vicinity of caster to damage extremely close enemies.
Shrieker Echo: A spell that activates and lets out a sharp shriek that can be heard for miles if an enemy steps into its range. It’s excellent as an early warning system.
Summoning: Druids can summon a number of familiars to attack enemies. Serara has summoned a cute wolf that acts kind of like a homing missile… really.
Bug’s Light: A strong light spell. This spell actually summons a firefly-like familiar, and the intensity of the light can’t be controlled.
Willow Spirits: A binding spell. Vines shoot out of the ground and wrap around the targeted enemy. This spell can’t be used when there are no plants within the vicinity.

Those in the world of Log Horizon also have access to a status menu and status boxes, where they can watch allies’ and enemies HP and check cool down time for their own spells. Adventurers are all granted a physical boost so that attacks that would normally sting a lot don’t actually hurt very much, and even death doesn’t hurt a lot. They are also capable of communicating telepathically to anyone on their friend list (which has a cap of 1000 friends.) and can access a cooking and crafting menu to quickly make complicated dishes and items. The downside with the cooking menu is that food produced through its use is completely tasteless, regardless of how appetizing it may look.

In Haven, the menu will be scrambled such that all written elements are erased or replaced with pictures where possible. This means Serara will be unable to see a person’s name, level, sub-class, guild, and exact HP and MP levels. She will be able to see the class of a character, represented by the class icon. (I’m planning on using permissions to let others determine what class they may be seen as. It has no real effect on anything except giving Serara a general idea of the other person’s capabitilies (front line fighter vs back line healer) If I don’t get permission it will appear obscured to Serara.) The friend list will not work, as all friends will appear offline and she will not be able to add anyone onto the list, meaning she will be unable to communicate to anyone telepathically. She will still be able to use the cooking and crafting menus, but since her sub-class is housekeeper, the number of items she can produce with those menus are so low it’s pretty much irrelevant. Her inventory will be inaccessible, as well her equipment screen.

She should be able to form a party for combat purposes, but it doesn’t grant much except to allow her to check on her party’s full stats... which really isn’t that much in Haven haha… In battle Serara will be able to see the amount of HP her party members have relative to their total HP by looking at their HP bars, as well as the status effects afflicted on them. MP bars will be obscured to her. Everything else mentioned previously will continue to be obscured to her.

Items/Weapons:
Oak Wand: A wand which all Druids begin with. Although it contains no special effects, it is very sturdy. It is strong enough for a first time adventurer to use as self defense.
Walnut Brooch: A simple brooch made of a walnut. Increases defense slightly when worn by a Druid. Males often use it to fasten their mantles, while females use it to fasten their capes.
Broom: The broom from her Cleaning set. In Log Horizon the Cleaning Set qualifies as one item, but actually consists of more than four items, so I’m giving her just the broom.

Sample Entry: Haven Test Meme 1 | 2

Sample Entry Two:
Serara sighed for what was probably the fifteenth time as she brushed the floor of the common area in her apartment block. There wasn't a lot to do in Haven, she thought to herself. Everyday she would get up and eat a little bit of what she'd manage to scavenge around the town. Then she would go out and scavenge for more food. Sometimes she would then pop by the clinic to see if they needed her healing to help, but usually they already had enough people on staff. She would then wander around Haven and talk to some people, but all of that was usually only enough to occupy her time up to the early afternoon.

She didn't dare go into the tunnels by herself, after some people warned her that monsters lurked within. She was a druid, a healer class. She had some attack spells, sure, but if they attacked her directly they would wipe out her HP in a flash. Plus, this wasn't the same world as she used to be in anymore, and she wasn't willing to test if attacks still didn't hurt that much, like in her world. All that meant she couldn't go explore Haven North, which sounded like what the real world had been like before the Catastrophe happened.

She sighed again, and looked around the common area. If she was in Akiba her Housekeeping level would surely be in the fifties now, given how clean and sparkling the place looked. But this time Nyanta wouldn't come home and praise the cleanliness of the house, or tell her that she'd make a good housewife in the future. She wouldn't be able to go back to Akiba and hug Maryelle, or interact with Minori, Tohya, Isuzu or Rudy again.

Serara placed her broom against the wall and sat down on the couch, bringing her knees to her chest and squeezing herself as tightly as she could. She was beginning to miss home; yes, that's what it was. Crescent Moon Alliance and Akiba were her home, and she missed it and everyone in it dearly. She pressed her face against her knees and whimpered, tears flowing out of her eyes. When would she be able to go home...?

Character Name: Peko Pekoyama
Canon: Super Dangan Ronpa 2
Canon Point: End of chapter 2, upon being executed.
Background/History: Super Dangan Ronpa 2 | Peko Pekoyama

Previous Game History: N/A
Personality:
Peko is the Super High School Level (SHSL) Swordswoman, a fancy title meaning that she's the strongest kendo practitioner of high-school age in all of Japan. She behaves much like one would expect a traditional samurai to act; she's cool and collected, reserved in both manner and speech, though easily flustered if complimented. She has a certain constant, severe intensity to her expression, which tends to terrify children and small animals.

Her personality is a direct reflection of the things she has chosen to give up in pursuit of her ultimate goal -- protecting the one person more important than her own well-being or life, Fuyuhiko Kuzuryuu, and acting as his hitman. Abandoned as a child and adopted by the head of the largest organized crime syndicate in Japan, Peko conducts herself with a grace and dignity that might seem somewhat incongruous to the rough life of a yakuza hitman. As Fuyuhiko prefers to hide their professional relationship, she doesn't speak with the same kind of harsh accent one would expect from someone affiliated with the yakuza. In many respects, she acts as a stable rock for him and the other members of her SHSL class.

Or tries to, anyway. Her severity is largely due to trying to pretend that she is nothing more than Fuyuhiko's "tool," or rather, an emotionless weapon that exists only to serve him in whatever capacity he needs. Her entire purpose is to protect him, not only because she was ordered to by his family, given to him to act as his sword and shield, but because she truly cares for him. This is a source of inner conflict; while she wants to protect him, and is completely willing to give her life for him, she also wants to stand at his side as an equal. Though she tries to claim that she is nothing more than his tool, she also shows a strong desire to be with him and "fight by his side," rather than solely at his command.

She loves animals with fluffy fur or soft feathers, often remarking how she wishes she could get close to them to pet them. However, her severe personality means that every animal is frightened of her. This extends to people, as well, often being described as being "swordlike" in her interactions -- sharp, cold, and completely unwavering. In the pursuit of becoming strong to protect the most important thing in her life, Fuyuhiko Kuzuryuu, she's even forgotten how to smile except when thinking of his smiling face. Tough and determined, she thinks nothing of her own life except in how it matters to serve him, completely willing to die up until the very moment before her execution.

This conflict between trying to play the part of a simple tool and the genuine emotions of loyalty and desire she felt is likely what drove her to Despair in the Super High School Level sense. Canon itself is not clear on the exact circumstances, but it does state that the entirety of her class were SHSL Despairs. What we do know from canon is that an important member of the Kuzuryuu Family was murdered -- Fuyuhiko Kuzuryuu’s sister. As a result, Fuyuhiko murders the culprit in exchange, rather than trusting that duty to his "tool." Having been raised as Fuyuhiko's hitman and being ready and willing to shed blood for him, having the young master do it himself, when she knows him to be a far kinder person than he tries to project, must have been a source of emotional turmoil. She had one job, and she wasn’t even able to fulfill that for the person who is most important to her.

In addition, she also references in one of her Free Time Events that she “was unable to comfort her childhood friend (obviously referring to Kuzuryuu),” with even so much as a smile or a word of reassurance. As a further inability to look after the young master, she was helpless to even do so much as make him feel better. As someone who’d been trained to look after him and protect him, being unable to do so thanks to her own training likely served as one of the catalysts for her to start feeling the kind of uselessness and strong emotion one associates with a SHSL Despair. This could have been enough for Junko Enoshima to start manipulating her and driving her further into the madness of Despair.

Though the memories of SHSL Despair were taken from her, and she swore that even upon being executed, she would never fall into it, the events immediately prior provide an opportunity for a huge shift to her personality. The guilt she feels for slicing Fuyuhiko's eye, and the knowledge that more than anything, he wants her to stay at his side, will render her more cautious in Haven, less willing to take risks that could endanger her life unless it's directly responsible for preserving his.

In summary, while she tries to pretend that she is nothing more than a "tool" for Fuyuhiko Kuzuryuu's use, she has her own agency, a willingness to protect him beyond mere obligation, and a strong need to improve herself so she can one day stand at his side as a equal.

  • Katana (+ Sheath)

  • Sample Entry: test drive meme

    Sample Entry Two:
It's difficult to tell when Peko is dreaming; it's more difficult to tell when she's having a nightmare. There's snow brushing gently against the window to the outside, intersperced with the pitter-patter of occasional sleet. All in all, foreboding enough to spark anyone's nightmares.

But Peko's are something different. In her nightmares, it's warm, hellishly so, and while the ocean breeze and the scent of cut coconut should be soothing compared to the weather here in Haven, it only brings the strong iron of blood to her nose.

The only sign that she's awake is the harsh intake of breath as red eyes fly open. It takes less than a second for her to identify her housing block, her surroundings, to orient herself out of the nightmare of scorching sand and heat and back to the chill winter spreading around her new home. A glance at the window proves that it's early still. But she can't stay there, not when she knows that drifting back to sleep will bring those same nightmares. She pushes herself out of bed, quietly padding across the room to dress herself, pull a hood around her face, and head out. Spending some time walking in the snow would be the solution to drive away the memory of the island.

She'd been executed, back on that island. Among the sand and sea, an army of robot samurai sliced her to pieces. That alone should be the stuff of nightmares, remembering the pain of the blades, a thousand cuts on fast-forward to end her life. But for someone raised to think of herself as a hitman -- as less than that, as someone who had forced herself to think that she was nothing more than a simple tool, because it hurt too much to be human -- pain like that was nothing. She'd take those cuts a hundred thousand times again if it meant never seeing her own blade slice the skin of the most important person in her life, or worse, her imagination conjuring the sight of her shattering his skull with a baseball bat, the sharp crack and spray of warm blood.

It's not long before an errant gust of wind sends sleet into her face. Teeth chattering, she ducks under an overhang to wait for this particular burst to pass. She cuts a bit of a strange sight, wandering around without much of a purpose in the snow. But every now and then, she pauses, scoops up a handful of snow with her bare hands, and forms it into a hard ball to hurl high into the sky. A flash, and her bamboo sword is in her hands, slicing the ball as neatly as if it were with steel itself.

Peko can't afford to wallow in the past. She needs to keep moving, keep active. Any distraction right now is welcome.

    Fuyuhiko Kuzuryuu | (Super) Dangan Ronpa 2 | 2/3

    [personal profile] impheired 2014-10-13 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
    Personality:
When first introduced to Fuyuhiko Kuzuryuu, it's kind of hard to believe that he has any redeeming qualities whatsoever. He's incredibly stand-offish, rude, foul-mouthed, and the only thing about him that's shorter than his stature is his temper. Attempts at conversation with him will only be met with attempts to shut it down as fast as possible and insults aplenty. It's almost like he never heard the saying "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all." (spoilers: he probably hasn't) Treating him like a child is liable to get you killed, or at least maimed, as that is the one thing he hates more than anything else in the world. He is fiercely independent and self-reliant, to a point where it's actually kind of a bad thing because he refuses to rely on anyone for anything, no matter how much he likes the person or how insignificant the task. He does not trust others easily, or seemingly at all, and does nothing to make himself seem particularly trustworthy either. Put simply: his people skills leave much to be desired. From an emotional standpoint, he's really not much better. Unless the emotion in question is "anger", he's not one for telling people how he actually feels. Getting a heart-to-heart out of him is nigh impossible thanks to, in no small part, his penchant for keeping everyone at arm's length. So, all-in-all, he's really not the sort of person that anybody in their right mind would want to bother getting to know. Or at least, that's what he'd like you to think.

Even though he gives you exactly zero reasons to do so, Fuyuhiko is a prime example of why you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. In reality, he's actually a decent person in possession of a few very admirable traits. He's surprisingly kind-hearted, very protective, and loyal to those who manage to earn his trust. If a friend is having a problem, he can be a surprisingly good listener and occasionally offer some pretty solid advice. However, he isn't always the best at getting that advice across and sometimes assumes a little more about what others are feeling than he should. Like I said earlier, he's not exactly the best when it comes to expressing himself emotionally (he's kind of a massive tsundere). But if nothing else, he does at least try and surely that has to count for something. He's a very determined individual who does not back down from challenges or go back on his word. He possesses a laser-sharp focus, arguably the strongest one out of all his classmates. Distracting him is incredibly difficult and he's usually one of the few (and definitely the loudest) who tries to keep everyone on-track during class trials. He's not afraid to speak his mind, something that makes itself abundantly clear when looking at Fuyuhiko in a negative light as well as a positive one. While not the smartest in their class, he has a good head on his shoulders and is perhaps more intelligent than one would expect.

All that said, it might just seem like he's little more than another Jerk With A Heart Of Gold trope character. But in reality, this is not exactly the case. Yes, he does have a heart of gold buried underneath layers and layers of jerky sludge, but there's a reason for it. He purposefully forces himself to be an asshole, even though his true nature is much the opposite. The reason for this is that what Fuyuhiko Kuzuryuu is and what the world expects Fuyuhiko Kuzuryuu to be are two very different things. As the heir to Japan's largest yakuza family, there are a lot of things that are expected of Fuyuhiko. The heir to the Kuzuryuu family should be a capable leader: intimating, strong, fearless, and never show his emotions or any sign of weakness. To that end, it would help to look the part as well. And yet...Fuyuhiko is a tiny, lactose intolerant, baby-faced boy with a huge sweet tooth (he gets even MORE irritable than usual if he goes too long without something sweet and compares himself to an addict going through withdrawal) and an all-too-caring heart. As a result, he tries to hide his true nature by putting up a front. He acts like he doesn't care about anybody or anything, despite the fact that this is the most bold-faced lie he could possibly tell. As a result of all this, Fuyuhiko is in a more or less constant state of conflict against himself, trying to find a way to reconcile his reality with the world's expectations.

His upbringing has done more than just give him image reconciliation issues, however. It's also shaped the way he interacts with others (specifically his peers) and given him somewhat of an abnormal set of values. As stated previously, Fuyuhiko puts up a front to make himself seem a lot tougher than he actually is. But even without that front, he would still have trouble interacting with others "normally" because of how others treat HIM. Because of what his family is, people look at Fuyuhiko and see nothing but trouble. As a result, Fuyuhiko had no friends growing up, outside of his little sister (who doesn't really count because she's family). When he's finally available to spend your free time periods with, he oftentimes seems confused and weirded out by the idea that Hajime not only wants to spend time with him, but also seems to enjoy it. The assumption that Fuyuhiko is nothing but trouble isn't exactly unfounded, however, cruel though the outcomes on the SHSL Yakuza may be. The yakuza world is an incredibly brutal and violent one, especially in the case of the Kuzuryuu family. Fuyuhiko's hot-blooded nature didn't just come from nowhere, after all. His parents and sister have rather explosive tempers as well and even the smallest arguments almost always lead to violence. Fuyuhiko claims that he's come close to death several times in the aftermath of some of his parents' fights, as neither of them hold anything back and go at each other with the intent to kill. Fuyuhiko has grown up surrounded by violence and death and has long accepted the fact that, as long as he carries the Kuzuryuu family name, that will never change. In spite of all this, however, Fuyuhiko embraces his background. Even though he's not well-suited for it (and is painfully aware of this fact), he wants to eventually fill the role he was born into. However, he wants to actually deserve it first. He wants to be strong enough TO lead his family, not strong BECAUSE he leads his family. This desire to prove himself is what leads him to become so fiercely self-reliant. He believed that relying on others was weakness and he'd never be able to prove himself if he accepted help or handouts (even if they came from his own family).

So how is it that Fuyuhiko's true, not-actually-as-bad-as-he-could-be nature makes itself known? Because when he's first introduced, he does very little to give off the impression that there's more to him than meets the eye. The answer is loss. By losing the people most precious to him, Kuzuryuu is able to realize just how badly he fucked up and how wrong he was about a lot of things. In chapter 2 it's revealed that Fuyuhiko and Peko Pekoyama have not only known each other since the cradle, but that Peko is his bodyguard/hitman. It's also revealed that Fuyuhiko's little sister was murdered during their time at Hope's Peak Academy and that Mahiru Koizumi helped in covering it up. While Fuyuhiko did have his revenge on his sister's killer (a fact which he has forgotten along with the rest of the "Twilight Syndrome" incident), he had no idea of his classmate's involvement. Once it's revealed to him, he feels as though he has no choice but to retaliate. After all, he he was told from a very young age that when someone wrongs you, you wrong them right back: "An eye for an eye." So he plans to murder her (though very likely had no intention of actually getting away with it). Not wanting him to be executed, Peko becomes a killer in his place, all but taking the bat out of his hand to murder Koizumi in his stead. She then tries to claim that she was nothing but a mere tool for her young master's use and that by voting for her, the class failed to catch the true culprit: Fuyuhiko himself. All this was an attempt to get Fuyuhiko safely off the island. However, it failed because Fuyuhiko was unable to 1) sacrifice everyone else for his own sake and 2) going along with Peko's plan would mean that he really DID see Peko as nothing more than a tool. Which he could not do because the only thing he ever wanted her to be was herself. Peko is executed as the true culprit, making Fuyuhiko technically responsible for both her and Koizumi's death. He tries to interfere in her execution, only to lose use of his right eye and nearly die for his trouble. Because of all this, Fuyuhiko turns over a new leaf and starts trying to make amends with the rest of his class and to stop being such a coward. He even goes as far as to slice open his own stomach to show just how serious he is about his apology. He begins to actively help in investigations and trials, and is even shown to try and help a few of his classmates (Akane and Hajime, specifically) with some of their own struggles.

When looking at his actions over the course of canon, there's one final trait of Fuyuhiko's that makes itself very clear: his cowardice. If given the chance, Fuyuhiko will run away from his problems instead of them. It's part of the reason he puts up such a front and tries to act the way people expect him to. He's too scared to try and go against expectations and try and make things work on his own terms. Byakuya even calls him out on his cowardice in chapter one, pointing out the possibility that his motivations for wanting to kill someone are little more than him looking for an excuse to get out of the game. If he dies, he doesn't have to play anymore. But obviously he wouldn't off himself, and his pride would never allow for him to just meekly become a victim at another's hands. Even when he runs into Peko's execution, if you stop and think about it, it's clear that Fuyuhiko did not care whether he survived the attempt or not. Saving Peko and surviving would obviously be the ideal but what were the chances of that happening? And with Peko dead, Fuyuhiko would be all alone with his classmates who would surely not forgive him for Mahiru and Peko's deaths. And considering that the last thing he asked of Peko was not to leave him, it's obvious that he was terrified of what was going to happen without her around. To that end, dying at her side was just as acceptable as managing to save her. And even after her death, he's still incredibly reckless with his life. Initially, he does not value her sacrifice and sees his life as a meaningless spare. He's perfectly willing to die to help the others since he should, by all means, have been dead already. It's not until Nekomaru tells him that he needs to value the life that Peko gave him, that it's better to just be alive, that he really starts to get it and stops trying to throw his life away at every chance he gets. Between the events that transpired during and after chapter 2, combined with his free time events with Hajime, Fuyuhiko eventually starts making strides in the right direction and decides to start facing his problems instead of running away from them.

During the final trial it is revealed that Fuyuhiko and all of his "classmates" (canon seems to indicate that they're all actually from two, maybe three, different classes instead of the same one like they were initially lead to believe) were actually part of Super High School Level Despair: a organization of high school students lead by Junko Enoshima that completely destroyed the world for the sake of despair. It's never outright said exactly what it is that made any of them fall into despair, but with Fuyuhiko it's not exactly hard to guess. He grew up isolated and friendless, was inferior to his own little sister, and was in a state of internal conflict due to image dissonance. These two things make him a very good target for despair, as the former is a very common theme among his classmates. However, since Fuyuhiko does possess a very strong will, it's likely that this wasn't enough. His sister's murder and his own subsequent revenge murder were likely the straws that broke the camel's back, so to speak. His sister was one of the two most important people in his life and one of the few people who actually believed in him and his abilities. When he found out that her murderer walked free thanks to a very good cover up, he couldn't let that stand. But like basically every work of fiction ever tells us: revenge RARELY IF EVER makes a person feel better. We even see this from Kuzuryuu himself following Koizumi's death. So it's not hard to imagine that murdering his sister's killer (and most likely getting away with it) pushed him to a point where Junko had no problem manipulating him. Fuyuhiko does not remember anything from his time in SHSL Despair, but he is aware of the fact that he was a member and that he did a lot of really terrible things. He's accepted it and is now making strides to try and keep himself from ever becoming that person again.
    Abilities/Powers:
Fuyuhiko has absolutely no supernatural powers whatsoever (actually, he's extremely put-off by magic/super powers, even from a fictional standpoint), however he does possess a "Super High School Level" talent, just like all other students accepted into Hope's Peak Academy. Fuyuhiko is the heir to Japan's largest organized crime syndicate, the Kuzuryuu Family, which makes him the Super High School Level Yakuza. However, just because this is more of a position than a skill, doesn't mean it's not a talent. It's just a little less obvious than something like mechanic or nurse. When he wants/needs to be, Fuyuhiko is actually a very capable leader. He's very good at organizing people and getting them to listen to him. In that same vein, he also displays an aptitude for business management (this really only makes itself evident in his "island mode" responses, as opposed to the main storyline). Additionally, he has a working knowledge (though not necessarily actual practice) of somewhat shady topics, including but not limited to: weaponry, interrogation, forgery, torture, the after effects of various poisons, and how to knock somebody unconscious with over the counter drugs.

Fuyuhiko also has surprisingly high endurance for someone of his size and seems to have a fairly high pain tolerance as well. Unfortunately, he does not seem to have inherited the ridiculous physical strength of the Kuzuryuu family and falls more on the side of average in that area. However, he can hold his own in a fight and is very quick on his feet when he needs to be.

    "What the fuck..."

Enoshima had said that the world was no longer what it once was. And the Future Foundation had confirmed that, yes, the world had gone to hell thanks to the activities of Super High School Level Despair. That much was undeniable fact. But somehow...somehow this didn't seem right. It's true, Kuzuryuu had awoken to find himself in an utter shithole, but...well, he shouldn't have, right? The New World Program was set up on the REAL Jabberwock Island, one of the few places not affected by The Biggest, Most Awful, Most-- fuck it, That Incident. But the room he was in right now, and as the landscape outside the tiny window (just what the fresh hell is that billboard, anyway?) was neither the sci-fi pod room he'd half expected to see, nor the tropical paradise he'd come to know over his near month in the virtual world.

Not only that but...he couldn't remember anything other than his time on the fake Jabberwock Island. And he didn't even need to look in a mirror to know that he still bore the appearance of his memory-less avatar. (surely, if this were his real body, he'd be at a higher vantage point right now! And possibly have full range of vision) That's not how this was supposed to work, right? And most important of all: where the fuck were his fellow survivors? He'd just seen them not even a minute ago, talked to them even, and now... Where was Hinata? Owari? Sonia? Hell, he'd even take Souda over being alone.

Well...staying in this empty room wasn't going to get him anywhere. Looking out the window had yet to provide any answers and somehow he doubted that would change any time soon, if at all. Trying his best to keep calm, Kuzuryuu strode out of the room, hoping against hope that he'd run into a familiar face with an explanation soon.

Character Name: Terrence “Terry” McGinnis | Batman
    Canon: Batman Beyond (2.0 comics)
Canon Point: Issue #18 right after he passes out in front of T.
    Background/History:
    Batman Beyond DCAU wiki
    Terry's wiki page
    Comicvine review
    Small BB 2.0 blurp

    Personality:

Terry will tell anyone that he use to be a "bad boy," and he wouldn't be lying. In his youth, he frequently associated with gangs while his parents went through a divorce, and one in particular got him three months in juvenile detention. As such, Terry is definitely a hot-head who is prone to acting before thinking on a lot of occasions. Though he's not overly violent or vicious, he does prefer settling things with his fists when his anger gets the best of him. He is sarcastic on most occasions, and he prefers to joke both in and out of the batsuit, something quite different from the bar set by Bruce. Working with Bruce and Grayson, however, has balanced both his brashness and his cheekiness, but even as a young adult, he can be quick to anger if the right buttons are pushed. He will never not ever enjoy letting his tongue fly.

The death of Terry's father is what ultimately opened the door for his readjustment. After his father's murder by The Jokerz, Terry wanted revenge. He did go so far as to steal the batsuit to try to accomplish this, but Bruce was resistant up until Terry pleaded his case by comparing Bruce's past to his own. Bruce reluctantly agreed, and Terry took what he was given without hesitation. Since then, Bruce has tentatively bestowed upon Terry the Batman mantle under the guise of working for Bruce Wayne personally. Through Bruce and the Batman persona, Terry receives a solid and focused purpose that pulls him away from gang crime and makes him an agent of vigilante law. Terry holds these standards to a high regard because he understands what kind of hole he'd be in if not for the chance he took on becoming Batman, even if he sometimes struggles with some of the Bat etiquette.

As Batman, Terry continues the tradition of being an in-and-out shadow of swiftly dealt justice, only with a few tweaks. He mimics Bruce's "Batman voice" the best he can to hide both his youth and to put fear into those he's fighting, but he can never seem to bring himself to be the stony wall that Bruce was, so even in the batsuit, he is often making wise cracks or taunting the bad guys. He is also not opposed to occasionally getting through or besting an enemy by using methods of trickery; however, he does still uphold the Batman rule of never killing anyone. At times, Terry can lose his cool in the suit with some enemies, but more often than not, he's a good Batman with his fair share of wins and loses. Being new to the game, he is prone to making rookie mistakes especially when he's over-confident, but he definitely learns from them. Even when he's down, perseverance keeps Terry going; it irritates him to think of giving up on a mission or giving up on the people depending on him, so he never does.

Additionally, working closely with Grayson in 2.0 has been a refreshing change of pace from Bruce's rougher, more distant edges. Grayson has helped Terry continue to grow as a formidable warrior, but he has also given Terry flair and adaptability as well as a friendlier, sociable companion. Unfortunately, Terry can often get carried away by being Batman. On at least one occasion, Grayson has had to lecture Terry on not forgetting who he really is: not Batman, but Terry, and he's reminded that school, family, and friends are just as important as being Batman. This is something Terry is at least already a little familiar with despite losing sight of it here and there. He spent some time in the past trying to convince Bruce that it's not the suit that makes the difference, it's the person inside of it that does.

Out of the cowl, Terry is actually a (minus the sassy mouth) nice young man, and he has great potential when given the right motivations. He is always willing to lend a hand to his friends, and he has often stepped into situations to stop bullying or to assist other peers even if they're not in serious danger. He doesn't beat around the bush, but he is usually sincere in his inquiries about other people (asking how they are, if they need help, etc.), and he has a normal level of empathy. Though not necessarily always optimistic, Terry is stubborn enough to keep trying even out of the suit.

College has become a needed, but turbulent factor in Terry's life, offering him the opportunity to achieve higher goals through education, yet piling on a great deal of other stresses. Whether or not he excels in this opportunity is debatable; he has the typical faults of a budding young adult struggling to balance every aspect of his or her life, and being Batman on top of that has put his college life on rocky ground. He'll sometimes (see: a lot) miss class, or forget to study, or forget a test, but regardless, Terry tries his best with the hands he's dealt. Continuing his schooling has also stirred up his already messy love life. His ex-girlfriend along with another love interest are attending the same college, effectively putting Terry between a rock and a hard place.

The most important thing to Terry besides being Batman is his family, but not just his biological one. His mother and brother are his link to the world outside of the suit, yes; however, Terry considers Bruce and Grayson (and even Barbara) like a second family despite the convoluted history between them. Without one, he would be nothing but a suit fighting crime; without the other, he would be nothing but a rebellious teenager doing the crime. Both are something he appreciates and covets, and something he would fight to protect.

    Abilities/Powers:

Terry has no special or supernatural powers, but he is a formidable opponent. In high school, he was athletic which proved beneficial when he began being Batman; this athleticism continues through college with the work required for his double life. Terry knows a fair amount of hand-to-hand combat, and he's trained enough with Bruce and Grayson to have good stamina, flexibility, and strength, letting him rely less on the batsuit when the need arises. In 2.0, it's apparent that he has access to a training room in Dick's loft that he uses often. Bruce has honed his detective skills, and in pursuit of the medical field, he is pretty good at healing (nurse-like stuff) and cure making.

    Items/Weapons:
    The Batsuit
The batsuit in Haven has only the following functions: integrated binoculars; night vision; infrared scanning; magnetization of the boots, allowing the adherence to metal surfaces; thrusters on bottom of boots for short distances; retractable claws; glider wings; vital reader (heartbeat, etc.).

    ● set of 3 normal batarangs

    ● the pair of headphones he needs for hearing

    Sample Entry: test drive
    Sample Entry Two:
He thinks, at first, that he had dreamt up T and the alternate timeline which wouldn't have been so far-fetched, to be honest. Waking to the sound of an alarm clock just makes him believe he's in his own dorm bed being rudely awoken for a college class. Also, that he's probably late.

But when he sits up, if nothing else, he can at least say with absolutely certainty that he did not go to sleep in this mysterious room which is definitely not his dorm. He knows, too, he had not gone to sleep planning to wake up for college the next day. Had T taken him somewhere? Had he been left behind to get picked up by the Justice Lords? He was still in the suit, minus the cowl which was on the bed by his legs, and he was still in the Justice Lords uniform he had stolen to wear over it all. Everything else was a blank.

    And that made him uneasy.

Clambering up, he heads straight for the window because he knows light is, more often than not, always a good sign. He leans on the sill, squinting out, allowing his eyes to focus, only to be entirely shocked by the sight of the city. Destroyed. Not like anything he remembers at all. It's not the Gotham he knows, is it? Not even T's Gotham looked like this. Worry twists his stomach. Did something happen during the jump between timelines that he wasn't aware of before?

Slowly, his eyes move to the billboard, scanning it. Gas masks? "'In Haven, we're all safe... together'?" he repeats under his breath, lips twisting bitterly. Yeah, by the looks of the board and the looks of the city, that seems altogether ridiculous. His eyes fall back to the desolation.

    "I bet," he mutters.

    Character Name: Toshizou Hijikata
    Canon: Hakuouki
Canon Point: Chapter 5, Hijikata Route (January 1868)
Background/History: I'm pretty sure you know it's a damn mess by now, but here's the Hakuouki wikia link which does jack shit with a side order of fuck all in terms of really good descriptions unless you're really interested in season two. But hell, it alludes to his childhood.

That said, Reimeiroku and season one of the anime. Plot summary and episode descriptions of the prequel and season one. Reimeiroku's timeline. And here's a recap of season one of the anime, which doesn't really have much substance to it, but hell...it's like a bullet point list of shit that happened except screencaps were included.

    Personality:

Hijikata is a layered, compartmentalized man who wears a metaphorical mask and basically tries to present himself as the demon commander of the Shinsengumi: a ruthless hardass who is strict, has a will of steel, and basically is a fucking pain in the ass to work under. How effective he is at being the demon depends on who you talk to, how well they know him, and if they have any reason to lie or be honest. Reactions would probably vary from frightened agreement to a deep sigh to mocking laughter.

In a different lifetime (or if he had been less smart or if circumstances didn’t call for a demon commander hardass) Hijikata would’ve grown up to be a standard shounen protagonist. At first this seems possibly ridiculous as he’s very much the hardass demon commander with a ton of self control. However: he has a temper, one that can be sparked rather easily by the right people or the right causes. Hijikata has problems with giving up and admitting defeat, and often powers through with sheer willpower and determination and nothing else on his side. He values his friends and his people, even if he doesn’t always show it. One of the quickest ways to piss off Hijikata is to attempt to hurt someone under his command.

Hell, when one of his friends died - not just a generic soldier, but a named character who was a captain and had a history with him - Hijikata ended up giving the guy who cut him down a ‘don’t mock my friend and his sacrifice’ speech before he powered up. (It doesn’t play out the same way it would in Bleach or Naruto or similar series and it gets quickly subverted because this is one of the canons in which most of the cast ends up dying. But, point being, Hijikata does the speech and powering up scene despite the fact he’s in the wrong genre entirely for that sort of thing.)

So, on a level he has some traits similar to standard shounen protagonists and in a different lifetime might’ve ended up as one. However, what the Shinsengumi needed wasn’t a shounen protagonist. What they needed was someone who could do what needed to be done, no matter how dirty or vile, and keep the men in line. They needed someone to be responsible. They needed a demon. So he accepted that challenge with mixed results.

He became the demon. He still had his temper, but as the de facto leader of the Shinsengumi he had to learn to rein it in and tamp it down in certain circumstances. As much as he would’ve loved to Hijikata couldn’t just indiscriminately tell Lord So-and-So to go sodomize himself with his katana for some bullshit or another. He could lash out, and he does, but his hotheadedness was balanced by cool pragmatism and self control. A willingness to make hard decisions.

    Sort of.

…he tries, but it’s hard when Hijikata gives a shit about someone. During the events of the prequel Reimeiroku he ultimately orders his men to kill another guy, Ryunosuke, for knowing too much. Does so without hesitation. And then when Souji reports that he shoved Ryunosuke off of a bridge and so he probably drowned (he didn’t), Hijikata’s response was basically, “Well, it’s been raining a ton so he probably drowned.” Except he totally knows that Ryunosuke probably didn’t drown and gets called out on it shortly after by another guy. “Seems legit.”

So, yeah. Mixed results. Which is reflected with how others view him.

The soldiers all figure he’s a ruthless drill sergeant and someone they don’t want to piss off. Success there.

The people who knew him the longest - the captains and Kondou - know otherwise. It’s not that the demon thing is a total facade, but more that he’s complicated and compartmentalized and has enough layers that he'd probably be a badass cake. More than other people. He’s a strict drill sergeant with immense self control. He has shounen protagonist traits. He’s an awkward dork who writes bad poetry. They’ve known him long before he had to act as the Shinsengumi’s demon and so know when he’s genuinely pissed off, when to leave him alone, and when his strictness is actually a cover for him trying to reassure so-and-so but not wanting to do it directly lest they pick on him for being soft or trying to shield such-and-such from various things and know when they have an opening to pick on him for that.

So, he’s the captains’ boss and someone who they listen to and respect - kind of - and they let him chew them out when the situation calls for it. But he’s also a drinking buddy…at least if he could hold his liquor (he can’t) and they’re very comfortable with picking on him. In general, the relationship Hijikata has with the captains is a bizarre mix of boss and hardass mixed with friend and a bit of team mom holding the toddler leashes lest they accidentally destroy part of Kyoto. The specifics vary from guy to guy.

Kondou is a bit different given that he’s Hijikata’s boss and not the other way around, and also because basically Hijikata’s entire life goal is to lift up Kondou’s name and make him legendary. They’re friends. Kondou doesn’t get half as much crap from Hijikata as everyone else does. Kondou calls him Toshi, not Hijikata. He is only one of two characters to use that name, and the only one to do so without a suffix of some kind. Hijikata, in turn, is respectful and hauls ass to shelter Kondou from as many realities of command as humanly possible to keep him pure and stress free. He tries to be the shadow to Kondou’s light. This bites them both in the ass later.

At the point I’m pulling him from shit has gotten fairly real. Heroic Manly Deathfest 1864 had kicked off but the core cast hadn’t all died off. Yet. Everyone had started on a rousing round of bad life choices and passed around the flask of the Water of Life. Hijikata took a chug. This really sucked for him. He turned into a fury.

The physical changes? Those I’ll toss down into abilities so forward to that down there. Mentally? Mentally, the circumstances which proceeded and followed him becoming a fury as well as the side effects of being a fury basically did a number on him. He had to work insanely long hours to keep the Shinsengumi together, and on top of that daylight hurt him and he was occasionally overcame by the urge to slaughter the living and drink their blood and had to rein that in. This wore down on him much like acid on enamel, revealing the very pissed off guy beneath who was being dicked about by the world and the Tokugawa shogunate specifically and knew that it was happening the entire damn time.

Abilities/Powers: Can stab shit, is basically a vampire but not in the sparkle tilde desu Twilight but more in a bastard child of vampirism and zombieism sort of way.

…fine. In terms of wielding a sword he’s good, but his main strength is basically in the fact he’s unwilling to give up. He’s good, very good, but there’s other people who’re better in terms of straight up skill. That said, unlike some of those other people (not all, but some), Hijikata’s far more willing to keep on slashing even after he gets the crap beaten out of him and/or gets a lung punctured so he might beat some of those people who’re technically better.

Or to put it another way, he’s the sort of swordsman who fights best in actual life or death situations and the same person who might kick his ass in a friendly duel with practice swords might get their ass kicked by him in an actual fight to the death.

As for the fury (aka vampire) thing, I’ll just break it down into a list:

PROS: Can regenerate wounds pretty quickly. Is stronger. Faster. Can rock dramatic white hair and red eyes in Fury Mode™ (think of it as a transformed state they can turn on and off at will…for the most part) which may or may not be a pro depending on their color palette in general and what they’re wearing.

CONS: Sunlight hurts to be in and furies work best at night. Silver is also the exception to the wound regeneration thing: getting shot or stabbed by silver means that they’d have to heal the hard way. Occasionally they get seized by the need to drink blood, and the longer they go without drinking blood the more likely they’ll snap, go mad, and basically end up as a zombie except instead of groaning, “Braaaaains.” they groan, “Bloooooood.”

Their fury powers also draw upon their total potential/lifespan/life energy. To give an example, one of the characters, Heisuke, became a fury around age 18ish. (I'm too lazy to look up the specific year. Close enough.) He had no choice: it was becoming a fury or dying of his wounds. He was active in using his abilities, and ultimately he ended up dying of natural causes - in that he ran out of lifespan but wasn’t killed prematurely by a silver bullet to the heart or anything - at the ripe old age of very early 20something.

    Being a fury sucks.

Items/Weapons: His katana and a wakizashi.
    Sample Entry: One Two
Sample Entry Two: ("Someone talk me out of writing a sample about a line for the bathroom." "Why." "Do it." "Nah.")

Normally, the bathroom supply was sufficient to meet the demand. Normally, there wasn’t a line. Normally, a person could count on getting in, doing their…business, and getting out. Normally, coincidentally, certain people went nowhere near the kitchen. Certain things were normal for certain damn god reasons, apparently, for reasons that he was going to explore and fix.

…later. Because apparently lunch had ambushed certain (that fucking word again) other people before it got around to getting him. End result; he was the increasingly pissed off end of a long line for the only bathroom in the building. A bathroom that was growing more and more filthy by the second. Like he gave a damn. (But he could smell it. Everybody could. It was just another reason why he was so pissed off about waiting.)

Finding the nearest bush was and continued to be a tempting option, but like hell was he going to admit defeat. He had survived literal demons, politics, and battle. Like hell he was going to lose to badly cooked eggs - or whatever it had been - and his gut. So there he waited. Bitterly refusing to leave. Bitterly refusing to jiggle on his feet and do the fucking pee dance. And-

“Dammit! How fucking long are you going to take in there?!”

…some things a man couldn’t resist and one of them was pounding on the door while swearing. All he got was some incoherent moaning and a decisively moist sound in reply.

    Fuck this.

Previous Game History: From [community profile] tushanshu.

Monet spent approximately six months in Keeliai, a city on the back of a giant travelling turtle. She'd been recruited by the Ironwood Emperor, Eshai, to fight the evil Malicant before it destroyed that world, and moved on to all worlds. She was extremely unimpressed by the kidnapping, immediately suspicious of everyone else there except her teammates Rictor and Layla, both of whom arrived in the same month she did.

On the surface she seems as much of an ice queen as she is in canon, but there've been numerous small changes. The first one being she maintains a cool, polite professionalism as her default outward demeanour instead of outright hostility. The vast majority of Keeliai's population and all the NPCs were not baseline human, and furthermore weren't aware of the negative connotations/baggage behind being a mutant from Marvel 616. People sympathised with the oppression instead of encouraging or condoning it, they saw her for her rather than just another freak. That went a long way to softening her. Nobody went after her friends, either, and when not constantly concerned about what threats faced them from other people she could put her time and resources into actually getting real work done instead of posturing.

In canon she serves primarily as the muscle of the team, but when that responsibility no longer existed she took on a different role: that of its tactician. Monet immediately kept herself busy by gathering her own intelligence, setting up a system of informants, and making allies amongst the population, exactly what her mentor Sean Cassidy (who's ex-Interpol) would have done in that situation. She eventually worked out a mutually beneficial arrangement with the Alderwood Emperor, and was privy to much that went on in Keeliai.

Furthermore, the characters had to be more trusting of others as they had little context or background into the worlds some residents had come from, and it would mean the end of the world if they didn't pull together to survive. Monet learnt to take chances and it paid off when she befriended Kal-El (DCU), Leonardo (TMNT 2003), and James T. Kirk (Star Trek AOS). Unexpectedly, she was civil towards Sharon Carter and Tony Stark (both of 616). A fresh out of canon Monet would never even consider for a second that either was trustworthy due to their ties to SHIELD, and while she'd never trust them implicitly, she afforded them her respect and assistance.

Monet is someone who reflects those she's around: the presence of a better emotional support system in Keeliai than she had previously went a long way into helping her unlearn her unhealthy emotional coping mechanisms. She lost her temper less often, she was more willing to be patient with those she would have dismissed previously. She was also more willing to extend kindness openly, and gave her protection much more freely instead of just the ones she felt deserved it. She moved towards the much lighter side of morally grey. There was some regression occasionally, whenever a painful reminder of what her life in canon was like surfaced, but it was short-lived and grew less frequent as the months passed.

She became extremely close to her teammate Layla Miller. Layla represents everything Monet hates: acceptance of one's fate and place in the world and no desire to change it. She is a reminder that they are all at the mercy of forces beyond their control, and Monet doesn't deal well with losing her autonomy. Their antagonism and distrust eventually cooled off to become good-natured banter and mutual respect. Monet was hit hard when Layla disappeared from Keeliai.

    Two other major events:
    - She and Leonardo were transported into an illusion that showed a "mirror" Monet: who she would have been if she didn't care for the autonomy of others, lacked any compassion, and was so fearful of losing people so much she had her friends under her telepathic control. In canon, Monet fears people seeing her weaknesses. She did not threaten Leo, but neither did she expect support from him, and was pleasantly surprised when he took her side and did not, as she feared, use her vulnerability against her.
    - Kal-El's mirror self murdered her and Rictor. She was revived and none too pleased, but after six months of character development she was in a position to deal with it without regressing to her "M" persona.

Canon Monet would have disdainfully remarked she was becoming one of those "superhero types". Monet fresh from Keeliai would just smirk and say so sue her.

    Personality:

Looking at Monet, one sees her "M" persona first: an arrogant, spoilt, beautiful young woman with an extensive list of mutant powers to back her up when she gets into trouble. She likes being difficult to relate to and "insufferably smug", and nearly everyone who speaks to her feels like she's sitting on a throne and treating them like peons.

    This is her armour.

Monet spent the formative years of her adolescence imprisoned by her brother Marius. She was mute, chained up, and he used her as a food source, frequently telling her it was her just punishment for refusing to join in him in world domination. Her telepathy protects her from becoming one of his thralls, but has the unfortunate side effect of keeping her awake and alive for several years despite having no exposure to food, water, or sunlight. When she escaped, she was feral, but not without a sense of self. She was found by Generation X, and joined them until she was finally returned to her own body at the age of eighteen. Afraid that they would exploit her vulnerabilities, she became self-reliant, and outwardly abrasive. She created "M" to protect her, because to her, a perfect being such as M would never have anything to fear from the world.

And there's really plenty to be afraid of. Being a mutant in Marvel 616 sucks. Not only do humans hate you, there's giant killer Sentinels roaming around, there was a virus created specifically to destroy mutants, people from the future come back with stories of mutant concentration camps, and there's frequent persecution of all kinds. Everywhere one turns something is going horribly wrong for a mutant, and most of them rarely make it to 30. Rich and powerful though she might be, she's every bit at risk as any other mutant, and so she demands to be seen as a threat. And having lost so many close to her, she has no sympathy left for humans. It's better that they fear her, because then at least people see her as a person.

Despite growing close with Generation X and later, X-Factor, Monet remains highly distrustful of others. She protects those she feels require her protection, tolerates the people she sees as useful, everyone else, she dismisses. She’s proud of who she is, but also lives with the knowledge that she's not completely invincible. While she was protected from violence in her early years due to her father’s position, she is no stranger to the harsh reality of the world they live in, and after what Marius did to her, she never wants to be seen as a target, by anyone. During the early issues of X-Factor she doesn't outwardly show much of any other emotion other than contempt, or pride.

Monet is extremely stubborn. Once she’s set her mind to something, it is next to impossible to dissuade her, even with reason. When her father had been kidnapped by Mordo, Monet promised she would let him feed on her if he helped them all escape from a bomb. Despite her teammates’ protests that she would die if she kept her promise, she intended to go through with it anyway until Layla subtly suggested another option. She's less morally grey than she likes to think she is: being fiercely devoted to her principles, instilled in her by her mentors Emma Frost and Sean Cassidy, both of whom she admires deeply. She looks to Sean as a second father; she describes their relationship as being stronger than the one he had with his own biological daughter.

Monet is warmer and kinder to the people she thinks deserve it. As a telepath (and a powerful one), she is acutely aware of every little anxiety that passes through the human mind on a daily basis. Combined with her enhanced hearing, she's attuned to the buzz of humanity on a deep level. She has an excellent understanding of the human psyche and will employ every tool in her considerable arsenal when dealing with people. She has a soft spot for strays, women who've suffered, and people who've lost their place in their world.

She has a strong sense of noblesse oblige. One of her clients remarks to Jamie Madrox, "I wish Ms. Saint-Croix was here, at least she'd be committed to my cause. You just want money." Monet would of course deny everything, and be secretly horrified her reputation isn't as fearsome as she'd like, but she would never miss an opportunity to extend compassion. She won't stand by and watch someone be hurt. She’ll do everything in her considerable power to help them, whether the action is legal or not, and she takes great joy in bringing her wrath down upon a wrongdoer. Monet believes that those who prey on the defenceless shouldn’t be shown any mercy. As a private investigator, she’s encountered several in that category and her conviction has only solidified. When confronting a man who had burnt down a building in a mutant residential area, Monet crucified him without hesitation. During her first case for X-Factor, she projected a horrific psychic illusion of the murder victim into the perpetrator’s mind, forcing a confession. She’s not above using her money or her connections to avoid consequences for these actions, and she remains firmly unapologetic about committing them. It's notable that despite this tendency towards impulsive brutality, she avoids killing.

She shows her affection by giving gifts, spending time around her friends, and offering unsolicited advice and support. She’s loyal to her team, and despite her denying it if asked, her actions towards them show she truly cares about their well-being. When Sean becomes an alcoholic, she does her best to keep him steady but loses that battle. When Layla is sucked into a time vortex with no hope of return, Monet grieves for her. When Terry is pregnant with Jamie's son, Monet becomes her pillar of support. She’s also very close to Shatterstar, and frequently indulges his fascination with pop culture and helps him navigate social norms. While she bickers constantly with Rictor, she understands him as well, seeing as they have both suffered from depression and have suicidal impulses.

Monet is hotheaded: quick to violence but also quick to calm down once she believes her point has been made. She reacts badly to implications of her incompetence as the team's muscle or telepath; however, when she genuinely makes a mistake, she shoulders responsibility for it. When she fails to notice Guido's mental instability because she was grieving for Sean Cassidy, she blames herself openly despite nobody on the team suggesting it was her fault at all.

While never explicitly diagnosed, she has been shown with a psychiatrist admitting to having suicidal thoughts and frequent nightmares, as well as an intense fear of dark, confined places, suggesting that she may have post-traumatic stress disorder from her imprisonment.

Abilities/Powers: ha ha so Monet pretty much won the mutant powers lottery:

    - flight

    - super-strength: shown lifting and throwing large vehicles as well as buildings with ease, fights on par with the Hulk. She can throw a bullet hard enough to make it as deadly as one that's been fired from a gun.

    - super-speed, enhanced reflexes: not at the level of in-universe speedsters; she’s been shown keeping pace with supersonic jets, and catching bullets.

    - invulnerability. It's mentioned that there's materials that can pierce her skin, but the only one shown is Archangel's wings.

    - enhanced senses: shown using super-hearing, infrared, telescopic, and night vision, and probably more if the writers need stuff for plot.

    - accelerated healing factor: resistant (but not completely immune) to poisons, toxins, and illness. anaesthetics and sedatives work just fine on her, alcohol has little effect.

    - telepathy: her range has never been clearly stated. She's been shown projecting illusions from about 20 metres away (she once created an entire mental alternate universe which lasted several days), but otherwise all her telepathy is used in conjunction with physical contact as she scans the client's minds, and she nearly always holds hands before using this power.

    - combat: she has a tendency to rely on her brute strength, but she is an excellent hand to hand combatant

    - fluent in French and English, working knowledge of Arabic.

    - genius-level intellect

    - eidetic memory.

LASTLY she's said to be a technopath but she's never been seen using this power and moreover requests a teammate to handle computer stuff (which she never would if she was able to do it herself). Previously, I've not played her as possessing this ability and do not intend to.

    Items/Weapons:
    - Her chess set
    - iPod with charger and headphones
    - A necklace with a fleur-de-lis pendant.

    Sample Entry: here.
    Sample Entry Two: here.

NOTE: Monet has had very minimal canon interaction with the Avengers (she's only spoken briefly to Iron Man, Hulk, and She-Hulk), and even as a CRAU wouldn't really bother seeking them out. It's highly unlikely she and MCU Bucky would ever interact.

    Background/History:

Here, but I'll also be adding some more about his childhood down here:

Xix was a lively and spirited boy during his childhood. He was adopted into the Baanan Clan and was taken care of by the Village Elder when his mother, Serin Demon, dropped him off begging for the Elder to take care of Xix during a stormy night. She promised to return, but when you're a woman on the run from the most powerful man in their world, Regis Nex, the likelihood of keeping promises are slim; and for Serin the results of coming back were at an absolute zero. So Xix continued to grow up in the Baanan Clan, living peacefully in the village as a hard working young man who befriended all, including a girl by the name of Siana. (Also it should be noted that Siana and Xix are suspected to be siblings because Serin had dropped both of them off in the Baanan Clan on the same day, and because of the fact that Xix can open the family seals that can only be opened with the blood of Nex or his children.)

Siana was known as "the witch's daughter" and took care of her grandmother who was a witch, but was terribly ill. Siana would gather herbs and rarely entered the village due to the constant teasing and bullying she would receive from the village children. While Xix wasn't unaware of it, he neither reacted with violence or stopped Siana's bullies. Instead the two promised to one day leave the village and travel to capitol, with Xix boasting quite proudly that he would become a knight in order to protect both Siana and everyone in the village.

As quickly as it was for him to declare that as his dream was how quickly it took for it to disappear instantly.

Without his knowledge Siana made contact with a member of the Night Clan—Caladborg, to be more exact, a powerful demon stone that is the main enemy throughout the series and who has taken the body of Regis Nex's younger brother as a vessel. Because of Regis Nex's personal hatred towards Caladborg he immediately ordered his army to travel to the Baanan Village as soon as it came to a conclusion that someone of the Night Clan had appeared in Chaos. Xix, as excited as he was to see knights, wasn't aware of the disaster to come: When a child who often bullied Siana followed her into the forest and was tainted with the "contamination" of the Night Clan. When the child tried approaching Siana and Xix in anger after the curse coming from her body killed a friend of hers, Regis Nex immediately recognized what was happening and cut her completely in half. Instantly the entire village was in shock, but before anyone could find a way to defend themselves the entire army began killing villagers left and right in thoughts that the Baanan Clan was hiding Caladborg.

Xix and Siana attempted to escape, but before they could Xix was penetrated by spears and Siana was stabbed through the chest. But Siana somehow managed to live, remembering the spell that her mother, Serin, had spoken when she had risen the dead when she was nothing more but an infant, and spoke those same words to form a contract with Xix and resurrect him. Making him an "Undead" (which will be more explained in the abilities section of the application.); the resurrection was a success, and before Siana was stabbed again Xix rose and tore the soliders who threatened to raise a sword at her into pieces. But in this state of drunken and uncontrollable power, Xix tore Siana's heart right from her chest and killed her.

And, of course, Xix could only remember the events of seeing Siana and the rest of her villagers die by the hands of Regis Nex and his army. Because of this when he made contact with Osky, a man who has created many evil demons in Chaos, Xix didn't hesitate to form a contract in order to gain power to exact his revenge. Osky gave Xix his most powerful evil he had in exchange of Semek, a magical stone that Serin gave to him as an infant, "Skoll". Afterward he begins training and traveling to Regis Nex's location with Osky, who now takes the form of a crow to follow Xix around, and stumbles upon the Serpent Clan's princess, Yuan Yongje, on her way to Merrkaba (the capitol of Chaos) in order to marry his son.

    Personality:

"Because this life is not mine."

Xix is, to be very brief, a person filled to the brim with revenge.

In the second chapter alone Xix admits that the only reason he continues to live is to kill the man who slaughtered his entire village, Regis Nex. The thought alone of killing him brings a wide smile of delight and makes it more than obvious that Xix has made a simple path for himself: Kill Nex and die. He's absolutely determined with this line of thinking the a fault due to the fact that he is an extremely righteous person; whatever he believes in he believes in strongly—and those who disagree are more likely to clash heads with him or be simply ignored. In fact it's even stated by Nex himself that Xix's hatred goes above and beyond to the point that he can't even hide his murderous intentions. Which isn't wrong, ultimately, because Xix is a young man who wears his heart on his sleeve and isn't afraid to express himself without hesitation. So he's quite argumentative, there shouldn't be any surprise in that, and equally as stubborn of at least ten bulls if someone is really willing to have an argument with him.

He's abandoned his life but remains having a black and white view of the world; there is good and evil, and there's a fine line between the both of them—and honestly the people who Xix categorizes as "good" honestly brings out the best of him. Some would have thought that someone so persistent on killing the most powerful person in the world would be a foolish, inhumane bastard who wouldn't joke with taking someone else's life in order to exact his revenge. But that's not exactly the case, especially when he threatened to take Yuan Yongje's life and Nex only encouraged him and later swung his sword down to kill the young woman himself, in which Xix didn't hesitate to put himself between the attack and Yuan. And he even went so far as jumping to catch the daughter of Nex, Miya, even after he figured out that she was his daughter. (However that did come after he contemplated strangling her, in which he had conflicted with himself and couldn't find the strength to choke the life out of her. Even after he proclaimed and attempted at killing her when two individuals from the Night Clan finally revealed who she was.)

So, all in all, there is still some good in Xix; the same "Xix" that he thought he abandoned long ago in the dead arms of his dear friend, Siana, remains and shows that there's more to him than being a revenge-seeking, self-sacrificing young man. In fact, those who are unfamiliar with him might not even realize that he's seeking revenge because, to put bluntly, Xix can be a rather kind individual. Miya doesn't even recognize him as a vengeful person bent on killing her own father—admittedly the most they ever exchanged were names instead of valuable information—until the news is finally revealed from a third party. Xix did, after all, take care of her while they were together by making a fire and cooking, which gave her the same air as her older brother.

There are also some comical aspects of Xix, some that comes purely from the fact that he's an extremely honest person. He speaks bluntly and without consequence, both inside and outside of serious conversations, which makes him seem as if he's extremely inconsiderate of other peoples feelings but that's just not the case. In fact, it often takes a reminder for Xix to realize what exactly he's doing wrong, with a good example being whenever he invades Yuan's personal space. He doesn't exactly see anything wrong until the last minute and what's already done is over with; admittedly he doesn't see much wrong with taking blood from her, though, when they first meet. He'll never see anything wrong with that. That isn't to say that he doesn't get embarrassed, however, once he realizes what he's doing may seem like he another person are beyond the levels of acquaintances or friendship he'll immediately withdraw.

But he is pretty clueless on feelings that go beyond a high level of friendship, even going as far as to question why his heart was beating so fast when he saw Yuan dressed so formally. Honest to god this kid thought that he was having some kind of heart problem.

It should also be noted that while Xix seems like an uncaring person from time to time, when he cares he cares strenuously. May it be the fact that he's an Undead and so it's difficult to kill him or something else, Xix doesn't hesitate to put himself in front of the people he cares about. For the people that he shows kindness towards, Xix is completely capable of sacrificing himself for them; from jumping from life threatening heights to allowing a sword to pierce him, there's absolutely no way he'll allow someone that he sees as a friend to be hurt so long a he has control over it.

That being said, if it isn't painfully obvious enough, Xix has a fulsome amount of willpower and determination to achieve his goals. Even if he does show kindness and brotherly affection towards others, he does not allow himself to be swayed away from his desire to act his revenge against Nex. Even when Yuan shows concern for his life due to the fact that he continues to live with the fact that he needs to kill Nex, he only tells her to silence herself. Said determination can also be shown when he bravely fights against any opponent before him, claiming that he can't die, he can never die until he's killed Nex, so no other person standing in his way will be able to kill him. (He even goes as far as to fight against someone despite having all his major tendons cut.)

It should also be noted that Xix is extremely loyal to his comrades as much as he is to his goals. Unfortunately he has little to no manners, so even if someone of higher rank commands him to do something the likelihood of him actually following through without an argument are slim. Admittedly it's easy to manipulate him to do something so long as it's in his own benefit, but if you're a friend? Well, let's just say that he'll do practically anything you ask with only a few complaints.

Xix is a young man who continues to live by devoting himself to revenge; because he no longer has a life of his own where he can create a path selfishly for himself, but one where every breath he takes is for the hundreds of people—for Siana—who last their lives to a ruthless king.
