Applications Two

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED!
The next application opening date is Friday 16th January, 7pm EST.
The next application processing date is Friday 23rd January, 7pm EST.

IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE

We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.

We now have a test drive community at [community profile] haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.

While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

To see what we are looking for:

Leon Kennedy | Resident Evil | Reserved (Part 3)

[personal profile] morebulletspls 2014-11-15 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Items/Weapons:
• a modified handgun (with spare magazine)
• a Glock 17 (with spare magazine)
• a combat knife

Sample Entry:
Well, this is just great.

[The voice on the phone sounds dry. Leon is half talking to himself, but he speaks louder on the next part.]

Is this thing even working? Hey, you. Yeah, whoever's on this line. Come in.

My name is Leon Kennedy. I'm trying to get in touch with anyone from the United States government. Don't suppose any of you want to help a guy out?

[Should he wait for an answer? Leon isn't sure he even trusts this line. It's not his device; he doesn't know who it connects to.]

Don't worry. I'm here to help... I just need some information first. Work with me, and I'll do what I can to get this figured out. So much for getting that vacation. So, where is this place, anyway?

Sample Entry Two:
Subways. Of course there would be reports about the subways. Leon would have been surprised if the city had somehow managed to keep things out of their dark, sprawling tunnels. At least there weren't any entrances leading to old sewer lines as far as he could tell. But experience had also taught him that those secret pathways tended to lead to answers, so of course he had to explore them for himself. Against his better judgment (and warning from several local voices), he went. He was armed, so if anything did show up, he would be able to handle it. This wasn't his first walk into the dark--

Leon felt the ground tremble before he heard it. The shifting was under his feet, and he had to stagger back to get his footing as the shivering turned into real rumbling. He thought for a minute that the tunnel might be collapsing in on him, and that was when the large, rounded head burst through the side of the tunnel wall in front of him.

“You're kidding.” His gun was out before he had gotten five steps along, but Leon was sprinting down the tunnel in the opposite direction of the thing that looked at first glance like a centipede. If centipedes came in subway train size. He only had a few magazines, and judging by the thick exoskeleton covering its body, he wasn't sure those would do him any good. Maybe it hadn't been a great idea to come down to the tunnels alone.

“They could have been more specific about what they meant by monsters,” he snapped to no one in particular. He wasn't sure if he was following the line back the right way or not anymore. The hundred giant legs were digging along the tunnel behind him, so he didn't have time to stop and get a good look at where he was heading in order to keep out of reach of his new friend's mandibles. With his luck, he was probably getting even more lost. “Great job, Kennedy. Next time, maybe you should stay out of the areas they tell you are dangerous.”

He dove around a bend in the tunnel, turning to fire a few shots at the pursuing insect, and at least was gratified to see that it balked away from the impact. It was not enough to completely stop it, but he had managed to slow it down. Now, maybe if he were really lucky, someone would hear those shots and come with back up. Explosives or an actual subway train right now would be a godsend. But Leon was rarely lucky.

“At least you didn't come with friends,” he grumbled. “Okay, let's hope that I can at least get reception down here and call for help.”

Tony Stark | Marvel 616 | reserved (Part 2)

[personal profile] definingfuture 2014-11-15 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Anthony Edward “Tony” Stark AKA Iron Man (and a slew of dumb nicknames)
Canon: Marvel 616
Canon Point: end of Iron Man Volume 4, issue 31: during the explosion.
Background/History: wikia link

Personality:
In a word? Complicated. Tony Stark has gained a widespread reputation for being arrogant, selfish, and too relaxed on the job, and that reputation isn't undeserved. He's a pain in the ass, and that's just being fair. Tony has that persistent, energetic personality of someone who has a lot of ideas and doesn't always understand when others don't see eye-to-eye with him. His response to discomfort is humor, which can lead to a lot of misplaced and ill-timed jokes when his life gets hard. He is, however, friendly and loyal to the utmost, willing to sacrifice himself for his friends and his cause, as well as anyone that happens to need him at the time. He takes the idea of being a hero seriously and acts on it. He'll go out of his range and ability to give others support because he wants to be of use.

A lot of the time, Tony is just plain contradictory as well. He comes from a very affluent background and a father who was just as noted for his innovations and business mastery in his day that Tony is in the present time. This leads him to be over-generous and careless, feeling that he can always rebuild or replace resources if it comes to that. At the same time, he has a lot of self-doubt. He's given to questioning himself and those around him, because he's learned that his convictions and assumptions are not always right. He's made his share of mistakes and then some, and he does tend to defer judgment to those he feels might be better qualified, even if his personal pride urges him to figure things out on his own. It's often a pattern of hurried implementation of new ideas, followed by awkward questioning and doubt, followed by unstable resolve once he thinks he has an answer (which may or may not be right). He's a man born and bred to pave the way, and he's used to having all the answers, yet problems over the years have proven to him that he's not always right.

If nothing else, Tony is stubborn and resilient. He can recover from a lot of near impossible situations just by sheer will and hard effort, and he exists on the core belief that no matter how bad things are, they can and will get better. Tony is a pragmatic optimist. He doesn't blindly trust in idealistic hope, but he maintains that as long as he keeps going and gives enough, he can eventually find a resolution to any problem. If the world allows it and keeps existing, Tony will keep trying.

And inevitably keep making mistakes, but he'll always attempt to learn from them.

He has grown over the years. In fact, as a young man he didn't even have the business acumen that he eventually gained note for and made a lot of amateur mistakes, with shady deals and corporate spies taking advantage of him while he remained ignorant. But after almost fifty years, Tony has come a long way. He's gotten through his childish, rebellious instincts (most of the time) and has actually become the charismatic, dedicated leader everyone expects a CEO to be. For a while, he was Secretary of Defense for the United States, and from this point has become the director of SHIELD, in charge of the largest security operation in the world. He's made some great innovations and great sacrifices, including sacrificing himself to save his friends and innocent people. Instead of running away from his problems, which he repeatedly tried to do early on in his superhero career, Tony tackles many things head on. Perhaps a little too head on at times, since he seems to be compensating for his past by driving people as far away from danger (and himself) as possible so he can take on everything alone. He's has problems recognizing that he can and should ask for help... which leads me to his most well-known trait.

Tony Stark is an alcoholic. A recovering alcoholic who has attended AA meetings and been on superhero probation several times throughout his career, this problem has become a key part of the way Tony defines himself. It also shows a lot of his temperament: he can be clingy, self-destructive when he gets overwhelmed, and defensive when he feels judged by others. He's also very receptive to outside input, having willingly undergone therapy to help overcome his personal faults as he tries to improve. Unlike the image that he's gained and portrayed to the public, Tony is human with all of the faults and strengths that entails. He empathizes with people around him, including his enemies, and sees problems as things to overcome rather than reasons to judge others, because he's been there too. He knows what it's like to be the bad guy. Tony's alcoholism has grown into a symbol of his continuous goal to improve and grow as a person, and while it is an obstacle that he has to constantly face, it's also a sign that he can learn and change over time for the best.

And while I'm on the topic of change, this is a great time to bring up Howard Stark. Tony has a love-hate relationship with the original former leader of Stark Industries, which is what his first company started as. Howard was an innovative master of his trade and a very hard man to live with. While Tony admired Howard, he had a shaky personal connection to the man, and struggled both to live up to his expectations and to deal with the troubled CEO's response to his own dirty business. There is a flashback that shows Howard grabbing a young Tony Stark by the arms and squeezing him, shaking him as he insists that they have to win, to provide death to the good guys so that they can beat the bad guys, despite the young man's protests about being hurt. Even after deciding he doesn't like the industry, Tony has an on-and-off relationship with producing weapons, and he’s contracted out even when he knows how bad it can get. His feelings for his father and admiration (and childhood fear) have a lot of impact on Tony's present choices. He's still trying to live up to that idea of perfection and making someone—even if it isn't his late father—proud, but he also actively wants to go against all of the things he didn't like in the way Howard Stark lived his life. He doesn't want to be the warmonger who's legacy is death. He wants to change that legacy, to break free while still being successful. He still wants to be a good, strong person that Howard and Maria would approve of, just in a different way than he originally started. And what he wants changes as new events enter his life.

While he has undergone a lot of change over the years, there are certain defining traits that stay the same in Tony's personality. He has a notably sharp wit--he's an engineering genius with the ability to adapt to impossible situations, such as building and then improving upon a metal chest plate to keep his heart from stopping (that is totally how medical science works)--and an equally sharp mouth. Even though he's gotten better at tempering his sarcasm and quick reactions to others, Tony is still the most playful and reckless of the Big Three of the Avengers (the other two being Steve Rogers and Thor). He blurts out his thoughts at inappropriate times, still cracks sarcastic jokes in the face of danger, and gets wrapped up in his own life so much that he tends to screw up other people’s lives as a result. He's always tended to snap back at people when they push him with passive-aggressive or accusatory comments, and this remains true today. Even when the stakes are high, Tony Stark can't help but run his mouth.

On the positive end, he's extremely loyal to his friends, giving, and still pragmatic. He knows when to cut his losses, and although his strategic plays run more toward the reckless maverick style, they almost always succeed. He's generous and protective, which comes from having too much material wealth and not enough emotional support in his time. If he has something within his power to give, he'll give it, hoping that expresses how he feels toward those around him. He's also one of the more open-minded heroes when it comes to gray lines and forgiveness. Tony understands that there are different points of view and the hard truth that all humans are flawed. As an alcoholic and the weapons designer who's been branded with every slur people can come up with, Tony Stark doesn’t usually judge others as being evil. He stands up to enemies and has no problem telling someone when he thinks they are wrong, but he doesn't equate actions with someone's worth. What you do does not make you evil, at least in his perspective. He's turned around and aided people that have tried to kill him repeatedly over the years, and that is a trend that continues in Iron Man's career. He's actually befriended enemies, in fact, and while he won't trust someone blindly, he does allow for changes in people's character. After all, if he can get better, than so can everyone else.

Tony Stark | Marvel 616 | reserved (Part 3)

[personal profile] definingfuture 2014-11-15 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Abilities/Powers:
Tony is quite literally a genius. His intelligence makes him one of the smartest men in the world he comes from, earning multiple doctorates from MIT at the age of seventeen. As an adult, he's noted as an engineering genius, able to hack technology that is advanced beyond Earth's level of knowledge. He has knowledge and skill in a variety of areas, lauded as an expert in business as well as technical skill and able to build up billion-dollar companies from the ground up in a matter of weeks. He's charismatic enough to win over others and rational enough to command results, making him a decent enough leader in immediate situations. With the addition of the Extremis technology that modified his body and mind, Tony is able to process even more information, essentially turning him into a living computer (with all of the drawbacks as well). Despite the suit being his most obvious advantage, Tony's real strength lies in his ingenuity, which is enhanced thanks to the “upgrades” he has undergone. The other thing Tony is good at is strategy. He has tactical intuitiveness. Because of his ability to analyze his situations and work around limits, he can come up with unexpected strategies to overcome surprise obstacles and threats. He's good at coming up with emergency response plans, which tends to be his strong suit in any conflict. He's also a self-proclaimed futurist, able to think and respond to conditions several steps in advance, at times giving him insights to what will happen years ahead of when it does. He sees the potential in things and uses it as much as he can to shape the outcomes that he wants. While these insights aren't foolproof or vast, they do give him a slight strategic advantage when looking at the big picture of situations he finds himself in.

Physically, Tony is a decent fighter, having been trained by Captain America. He can take on several trained soldiers at once and he's fairly tenacious, even if he is lacking finesse. While he isn't at a military level, he's still strong even against armed combatants.

Thanks to the fantasy science of comic books Extremis modifications (a human-engineered virus that rewrote his biology to be compatible with technology), Tony can interface with machines using his mind (including controlling his armor), heal faster than normal and regenerate parts of his body. It takes time, of course, but eventually he can heal if given enough time. He “talks” to machines using a form of telepathy and can remotely control machinery with his thoughts. The armor he wears gives him added protection, strength, and the ability to fly. It also comes with an arsenal, so that can be an advantage for him.

Weaknesses:
Tony is an alcoholic and tends to be more given to emotional reactions than other people. It's easier to distract, demoralize, and upset him with dirty fighting than a trained fighter. He has trouble saying no to temptation and can be temperamental under stress. Since he's biologically like a living machine, he can also be hacked and controlled if someone is technologically advanced to crack into his systems.

Without the advantages of technology, he's also only human and has the same weaknesses as a normal human being. He's not magical or immortal.

Items/Weapons:
• an armor set with jet boots, a limited arsenal (some small missiles and energy beams), and wireless interface (not that it helps anyway)
• the normal clothes that he wears underneath (a jacket suit, yay!)

Sample Entry:
Well, you've certainly got a city here. It's... a city.

[This is Tony's polite face. He's smiling with as much pleasantness as he can muster. It's actually kind of hard, considering he just had an encounter with the barrier. Now he knows what a bird feels like when it finds a window.]

Nice. It's interesting, I'll give it that. I feel like it could use more signs, though. You know, one for city limits, at least. That would be great.

Just for the record, these phones have terrible reception. I'm sure that doesn't surprise anyone, but I thought I'd mention it, anyway. Seriously. Do people actually use these things to talk to each other?

[Not that he's bitter about those phones or anything. Not that he was completely blocked out. And can't figure them out. And is a terrible loser about the whole thing and tried to break them with no luck, right before smacking his head into the invisible barrier, oh, no.

Okay, yes.]

Well, this has been a fun morning already. Someone give me some good news.

Sample Entry Two:
Tony Stark was in trouble. That was his official assessment of the situation when he lost all contact with SHIELD and the world at large and found himself facing a foreboding radio silence. The city itself didn't seem too bad. There were place to avoid, of course, but it wasn't anything stranger than normal—not when average distress calls included potential alien armies and genius-level terrorists. And gods, he couldn't forget those. But what really bothered him about the place was the silence. It made him feel like he was being watched. Like the city itself was watching his progress somehow, aware of every move he made despite his own inability to get a connection since his arrival.

Way to be paranoid, the voice in his head chided. Do we need to get you a night light, too?

But the bad attempt at humor didn't make him feel better any more than looking down at the housing cluster (Spiral. It was a spiral.) gave him a sense of understanding the layout of the place. It was all a giant puzzle surrounding a bundle of questions that he didn't have answers to, and that was worse than any real attack he might have had to face.

“I'll figure it out,” he said. And he had to say it out loud, even if it seemed silly. Even if saying it out loud just affirmed the fact that he didn't feel confident at all, and that he didn't know what he was dealing with in the city, which was the whole problem to begin with. He spoke aloud just to hear the words and assure himself that he could still do that much. “I've got this. It'll be fine.”

He didn't feel fine, but he could deal with that later. For the moment, lying was the first step toward making that a reality. And maybe if he kept trying he could actually find some answers in that place.

Character Name: Chibiterasu (aka: Chibi, Mutt, Squiddy, Pooch, Boy/Dude, and Pork Chop)
Canon: Ōkamiden
Canon Point: Post game, right when he is leaving for the Celestial Plain with Issun.
Background/History: Game wiki, Chibi's wiki
Personality:
"We're all connected."

One of the most important things to note about Chibi is that he is the literal embodiment of "good things come in small packages". As the son of Amaterasu, origin of all that is good and mother to us all, he's got some rather big shoes to fill -- especially with memory of her saving Nippon twice still fresh in everyone's minds. Despite this, Chibi doesn't shy away from the challenge nine months later, when the safety of Nippon is threatened and it is once again overrun by demons. Chibi is far from motherly, still too young and curious to understand many things, but Chibi does understand kindness and loyalty and it shows in the way he takes responsibility for every one of his partners. Though Chibi is considered a child to many of the characters in the game, his bravery and loyalty more than make up for his appearance and lack of intelligence, proving himself time and again to friends and foes alike that he is worthy of being his mother's son.

"You're too nice.... And that's your weakness."

Like his mother, Chibi's benevolence and responsibility to the people of Nippon is also a source of many difficulties for him. Both Chibi and Amaterasu have a tendency to "trust first, ask questions later" which make them easy targets throughout both games; even more so for Chibi, who relies on his partners as much as they rely on him in and out of battle. Chibi's boundless trust in his partners is both his greatest trait and his greatest flaw, and it's shown in how much Kurow's betrayal upsets him, and especially in how he doesn't fight back against Kuni when he is possessed by Akuro later in the game. When the others insist on protecting him, Chibi refuses, believing that Kuni would be able to break free of his possession and come back to them. Even when Kurow ultimately tricks Akuro into possessing him and uses his own body to seal Akuro inside, Chibi refuses to destroy him despite Isshaku's and Kurow's insistence. Chibi can't bear to hurt any of his friends and would risk his own life to ensure their safety.

"I don't feel alone. I have friends. Especially you, Boy. I'm glad I had a chance to live."

Despite all the hardships Chibi has been through in the course of the game, he has never given up on his friendships and his fierce loyalty to his partners. Chibi knows that he is never alone and that it is his bonds with them that give him the strength he needs to overcome his obstacles. It is through his love for them that inspire them to grow and he in turn, is able to grow as well. With his friends and partners at his side, there is nothing Chibi can't accomplish. At his core, Chibi is simply like his mother: kind, loyal and passionate to everyone he meets.

Abilities/Powers:
Aside from having heightened senses from being a wolf (better smell and hearing), Chibi is sensitive to anything demonic or holy. Like his mother, Chibi is considered to be pretty strong. Throughout the game, Chibi is almost always seen carrying a person on his back. While most of them are children, he is able to carry adults like Dr. Redbeard from his house all the way to the cliff where Ayame was waiting. Another thing to note about his strength is that he can wield large swords/glaives that are as big as he is in combat fairly easily.

But more importantly, let's talk about Chibi's brush techniques. As the son of Amaterasu, Chibi has access to the Celestial Brush which gives him the ability to manipulate the environment around him. He shares most of Amaterasu's brush techniques listed here:

Sunrise: Allows Chibi to change night to day, or draw the sun closer.
Rejuvenation: Restores what is broken/missing.
Power Slash: Cuts through a variety of objects. Strong enough to cleave diamonds/boulders.
*Guidance: If his partner trusts him, Chibi can guide them to and from a destination. An example of this would be guiding Nanami through a pool of water to retrieve a treasure and bring it back to him.
Bloom: Revives dead trees and plants, can also allow Chibi to purify small cursed zones. In battle, Chibi can use this technique against demons with certain armor, opening them up and exposing their weaknesses.
- Vine: Used in conjunction with Konohana Blossoms, flowers native to Nippon, Chibi can summon a vine from the flower and carry him to it. He can also use this technique to reach his partner's location over a gap or body of water.
Cherry Bomb: Creates a large bomb filled with fireworks.
Waterspout: Allows Chibi to manipulate water in his environment.
- *Splash: Chibi's version of Amaterasu's Deluge. Can summon a rainstorm and manipulate water without a need for a source.
Inferno: Allows Chibi to manipulate fire in his environment.
- Fireburst: Allows Chibi to create a massive sphere of sacred fire without a need for a source.
Galestorm: Allows Chibi to summon winds of varying strength. Can also be used to extinguish fires, knock down flying demons, and move objects around.
- Whirlwind: Allows Chibi to summon a tornado.
Thunderstorm: Allows Chibi to manipulate lightning in his environment.
- Thunderbolt: Allows Chibi to summon a massive thunderbolt.
*Magnetism: Allows him to manipulate magnetic objects in his environment, by pulling them apart or pushing them together.

*: brush techniques exclusive to Chibi.

Items/Weapons: Truth Mirror, Feather Sword, and a bottle of Divine Sake.

Sample Entry: Chibi's thread on the test drive meme!

Sample Entry Two:
While it was true that he had a tendency to drift and stare off into space when people talked to him, Chibi was usually aware of where he was before falling asleep. It's what startles him when the buzzing breaks the silence, jerking up against the sheets of the bed beneath him. He makes a curious whine as he looks down, getting on all fours as he circles the space he was just lying on moments ago. Chibi has never slept on a bed before and the fact that he's in a room filled with them causes no small amount of confusion. He jumps off his bed, moving to each one and pushing his nose against the sheets in curiosity. There are a myriad of different scents, yet the only ones absent are the smell of life and sunlight.

Making another low whine, Chibi moves back to the bed he woke up on and to the window, setting his paws on the window sill. He could hardly make out any trees or plant life, things that were always common in Nippon despite its struggles with demons, and that was definitely a source of concern for him; he was sure he wasn't in Nippon anymore.

With that thought in mind, Chibi moves away from the window and jumps back down again, heading out the door and into the desolate city. Even if he was alone, there had to be someone out there whom he could help and if there were no tress, he'd just have to try and make some.

Character Name: Nagachika Hideyoshi [Hide]
Canon: Tokyo Ghoul
Canon Point: Manga - Chapter 53
Background/History: Here

Personality:

The very first thing one would note about Nagachika Hideyoshi is his unending optimism. He’s always the type to yell, cheer, and cry out his feelings; be they positive or dramatically negative, he’s the type of person who seems to come across as, quite literally, living sunshine. He’s the type of person who can befriend and get along with just about anyone he comes across, his attitude being carefree, easygoing and easily adjustable to peoples’ moods. The fact that his best friend is Kaneki Ken--a shut-in who has no other friends except the optimistic Hideyoshi, is proof enough that he has a personality that can break through even the tallest of walls and wrangle people into enjoying his company. At the same time, this sort of personality can be overbearing and kind of uncomfortable to those who aren’t so easily swayed by such an attitude, and he can tend to chase off--by accident--those who he’s talking to just by being too forward with his treatment of others.

It’s also worthy of note to how over accommodating he is as a person; that even when he’s brushed off, put aside, or lied to; he doesn’t seem to give a damn; deciding there’s possibly significant reasoning behind it. People not returning his calls, messages, or even giving him the thumbs up that they’re doing fine doesn’t trigger a reaction of anger or annoyance in him, but rather, just a constant feeling of worry and wonder to whether or not that person is okay. It’s shown most prominently when his best friend won’t get back in contact with him after he gets out of the hospital, keeping patience with him despite how it took literal weeks to get a word out of him after his intensive surgery. So long as his friends are safe and happy, he doesn’t give a damn about his own feelings or needs.

Hideyoshi can be extremely momlike; someone who takes care of those who seem to be in need for it. His role in the CCG is that of a sort of deliveryman, doing tasks as a sort of gofer, though his reasons for this are completely selfish, he seems to be entirely comfortable doing it anyhow. The same goes for his treatment of Kaneki, as most often he’s constant in calling him to make sure he’s eating or sleeping properly, even going so far as to leave him food as well as cooking instructions so that his friend is taking proper care of himself. Perhaps it’s because he knows someone without any parents needs this sort of care at some point in their life, being all too willing to fill those shoes if he’s the only one who can do it.

Despite this carefree attitude and overly friendly personality of his, he’s rather adept at hiding another part of himself; the fact that he’s actually extremely attentive and sharp-minded. He’s capable of picking up on subtleties, finding out secrets and tying together information to figure things out in a nearly ‘Sherlock-like’ manner. He’s also extremely good at hiding this fact about himself behind his living sunshine demeanour, making it hard for people to see exactly how intelligent and quick-witted he actually is. He’s seen as extremely dangerous to have around ghouls, as he’s far too quick to figure things out, and the way he is, discovering what his best friend is would mean death for him. It’s hinted, however, that he’s already entirely aware of this fact since early on, proving exactly how sharp he is, but given that he’s also extremely in-tune with others’ feelings and situations, he keeps it a secret alongside everything else as to let life run as ‘normal’.

Hideyoshi is a determined man, and he doesn’t often let things get so far that he’ll give up on them. Be them small goals, or his relationships with others, he’s not someone who will let circumstances affect how he feels about things. Just because he’s ignored, doesn’t mean he’ll stop caring about a person, and if he’s completely aware of being lied to, he doesn’t often take it personally. His relationships with others is far more important for something quite so petty, so he doesn’t often pay any mind to it. Though, he isn’t someone who will just sit around and wait for things to happen, either, as when his best friend goes missing, he sets a goal of finding out what happened to him, even going so far as pushing his way into the ranks of the CCG, a group of people dedicating to destroying people like his best friend--just so he can possibly find and protect the man he’s lost. At the end of it all; he even accepts the ‘monster’ his friend had become, showing exactly how compassionate and caring a person Hideyoshi can actually be.

Re: Nagachika Hideyoshi | Tokyo Ghoul | Reserved (3)

[personal profile] nagachika 2014-11-16 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
Abilities/Powers:

Nagachika is a completely ordinary human, so as far as powers and abilities go, he’s pretty much in the negatives. Average strength, average marks in school, he’s not really so much an outstanding person in this way. However, he’s known to being far sharper than most of his friends, and is often commented as having a ‘Sherlock-like’ sharpness to him. Being able to figure out reasoning behind subtleties, finding out secrets, understanding things that others can’t right away, and catching on in situations where most others can be baffled. He’s also known for planting wiretaps and cameras in places when he has a ‘hunch’ about something that is either criminal or important information, and often reports his findings to the police when his intuition turns out to be right.

Items/Weapons: Cell Phone, Walkman, Headphones.
Sample Entry: Here and here.
Sample Entry Two:

He could tell. He could always tell that about his friend, how little he slept or how poorly he'd been eating lately. In the way Kaneki always tried to hide secrets from the Hideyoshi, they were always so obvious to him; even if he always acted the fool. He'd let it slide. If only because he knew Kaneki was better off that way, dealing with his troubles on his own. Right? He was doing the other favour by letting him do things in his own ways...

Right?

As his phone flashed red at the sound of a reply, he wondered, really. If Kaneki really was better like that, on his own, dealing with everything after… Fingers slid over the screen, and he takes a moment to read it, a little smirk moving up his face. Well; if his friend was already awake, there was no need to hold back. He took the moment to dial the number on the phone’s touch screen, and he didn’t have to wait more than a moment before Kaneki answered--though his answer was more of a groan mixed with a mumble. So much for getting a coherent reply out of him. Well; it wasn’t like it mattered.

“Ohhhh, snap. I actually woke you up. Now I actually feel bad!” He laughed, a bright grin spreading across his face as he lays back, an arm hooking around the back of his head. Listening to the others’ response, giving a little grumble of his very own.

“Okay, maybe I feel just a little bad, I have company now. And maaaan, let's not talk about Asian history, I'm already getting a headache at the idea of having to study another minute under Kobayakawa-sensei's horrible glare….”

He stops, waiting, wondering if he should continue that sentence, his eyebrows furrowing. ...Well. In for a penny... out for a pound. If he had absolutely any doubts about talking to his friend about this, then he wouldn’t have started this conversation in the first place.

“Ah, yanno. Just wondering if you've been alright lately. You've seemed distracted in class, Aaa? If you need any help with anything, you know I’m here buddy. Just a phone call away, right?”

Character Name: Nicolas Brown
Canon: Gangsta.
Canon Point: Chapter 23, after the fight at Bastard (it’s a night club, I’m sorry, I didn’t name it)
Background/History: here
Previous Game History: Previously, Nic was in Holly Heights for several months. As per Holly Height’s format, Nic was a “parent”, and his “children” were Maka Albarn and Mike Chilton, both of who he got along with. He was particularly close to Maka, the first person to learn how to sign just to talk to him. Maka took to scolding him when he did something stupid (often) and Nic would ocassionally do something that vaguely resembled parenting. Mike was more independent, but Mike’s best friend Chuck became an honorary third child for how often he slept over. Nic liked to tease the easily frightened Chuck, but after the two swapped bodies during an event, they formed a bit of a bond out of the experience.

Nic would describe his time in Holly Heights as boring, but not terrible. Though he did still manage to get into fights every now and then, Nic usually managed to behave himself for the most part. He even eventually got a job (at Maka’s urging) working at Triggerfingers, a gun store owned by Youichi Hiruma. Though they are incredibly antagonistic towards each other (Nic patronizingly nicknamed Hiruma “princess” and calls him that to this day) the two became friends, and Hiruma picked up most of the sign language he knows just from observing Nic. He also got a dog once and named it Wallace. While he was there he had a birthday, so even though he is 34 in canon, he is technically 35 with his Holly Heights PG.

Nicolas Brown | Gangsta. | not reserved (3/3)

[personal profile] inaudibly 2014-11-16 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: Nicolas Brown is not the friendliest guy you’ll ever meet. Or the nicest. Or the politest. In fact at first blush he’s kind of a jerk. He likes to tease people, whether he’s just met them or known them for 20 years. When he’s not teasing, however; he’s pretty reserved. The reasons for this are twofold. It is mostly due to the fact that it’s difficult for him to communicate with other people, as most people don’t know sign language and he is generally disinclined to speaking. However it does also owe some credit to his general attitude towards other people. As a twilight, Nic has had to deal with prejudice at hate from strangers his whole life, and as such has been conditioned to expect nothing positive from any interaction. His time in Holly Heights, where the stigma of being a “tag” doesn’t exist, did soften this somewhat, but old habits die hard. Nicolas is reluctant to admit caring for anyone, though it will often show more through his actions. Take for example Nina, young nurse at the nearby clinic and frequent visitor of Nic and Worick. Nina seems to have a pretty solid understanding of Nicolas and enjoys his company, despite him frequently doing things like bopping her on the head or honking her nose. Really, this seems to be his way of showing affection, he seems perfectly fine walking with her holding his hand; while it’s not incredibly overt, it’s evident he feels comfortable with her. Nic reveals the fact that he is actually a compassionate person through small gestures, such as steading Alex’s hands so that she can open her medication bottle or giving Granny Joel his coat to shield her from the rain.

Nic operates on an odd combination of tremendous immaturity and a fierce paternal streak. He is often needlessly snarky, with friends and strangers alike. Some might suggest that it is a defense mechanism, but he honestly seems to enjoy getting a rise out of people. He has plenty of actual walls that he puts up to keep people out. While he by no means is as fluently disingenuous as his partner, Nicolas is skilled at telling half-truths and avoiding questions when it suits him. Both men will flatly avoid talking about their pasts, and Nic generally will not lay any of his cards on the table if he can avoid it. In his months living in Holly Heights, only three people fully knew what his condition entailed, and one was only out of necessity when he had Nic’s body during an event. Despite this, Nic does seem to enjoy the company of people he feels comfortable with. While Worick is overtly friendly, it’s empty and meaningless, whereas Nic covers his soft squishy feelings with an air of stubborn obnoxiousness. He seems to have a particular soft spot for kids, though, if asked, he would summarily deny it.

That isn’t to say that Nic’s rough exterior is all an act. He’s been fighting his whole life and honestly enjoys it. He’s glad when he finds someone who can fight at his level, and has a bad habit of overdosing on Celebre in order to fight stronger opponents. He is a stubborn, abrasive person who is always more than willing to resort to violence, regardless of who the individual might be. He is set in his ways and has no intention to try to change for anyone else. He is perfectly capable of “turning off” his horrible temperament, but does so rarely and it is generally reserved for dealing with kids. For everyone else, anyone he cares for will see fleeting glimpses of Nic’s true nature every now and again. Take Alex, whose relationship with Nicolas is the only one that can even rival the tempestuousness of his friendship with Worick. Outwardly he acts very opposed to her presence, yet willingly tolerates her longer than anticipated time of living with them. When Alex took on a job for the duo to find a lost cat, Nic ended up being the one to actually find it, but let Alex take the credit because she’d spent all day trying to find it. Though he is rough around the edges, with a combative attitude and questionable morals, Nicolas manages to endear himself to people who can see that when it comes down to it, he has a good heart.

Abilities/Powers: Nicolas’ small build belies inhuman strength, he is also very fast and agile, and these enhanced traits are in part due to him being a twilight. However a great deal of his physical ability comes from his own training. He’s adept with a katana, but is completely capable of fighting with his fists as well. His only other skill worth noting is his impressive eyesight, which he developed mainly to compensate for his deafness.

Items/Weapons: His sword, his dog tags, a month’s supply of Celebre (two pill bottles)

Character Name: Rubi Malone
Canon: WET
Canon Point: Post-game; just after killing Pelham.
Background/History: Wiki entry. We aren't told about Rubi's life before the events of WET, but the ultimate driving force behind the game is revenge. /o/ I can TL;DR as needed if the mods require.
Personality: The saying "Bury me facedown so the whole world can kiss my ass" was made with Rubi in mind. Her violent streak is something most people would be thrown in jail for. Luckily, she has enough business smarts to realize that making good cash while indulging in cracking heads has gone remarkably well for her. Rubi Malone is known in the criminal underworld as the "Fixer" for a reason - if there's a problem biting you in the ass, you call in a professional to fix the problem for you, right?

Of course, as the saying goes, if you're good at something never do it for free. She's used to raking in a lot of cash and abuses it by treating herself to new weapons regularly.

Short tempered as she is, Rubi's irascible nature is the first line of defense to drive off anyone planning to waste her time. In the beginning of the game, she more or less tells a client to get lost up until the subject of payment is brought up, in which case the badmouthing is put on a backburner until details can be hashed out. Similarly, she shows a little affection for a select few individuals she trusts implicitly. Ming, her contact in Hong Kong, frequently got a cut of her pay if she went to him for information or other minor assistance during a hit.

She would later go on a killing spree in revenge when Ming is killed by one of the crime lords she was going after in retribution for giving her information. It says a lot considering she could've just dropped it and retreated back to the United States to fade off the criminal radar, but instead Rubi chose to take on the entire Pelham triad (and just about every underling he had) just to have the chance to cut off Pelham's head personally and therefore have justice done.

Shortly after Ming's death, Rubi tells her second contact located in the UK (Milo) that she doesn't want him mixed up in her revenge spree any more than she has to. Rather than pressing for details and possibly exposing Milo to Pelham's thugs, Rubi instead just asks to be pointed in the right direction and she would do the rest. This says a shit ton about how careful she's being with Milo's life, since it would be much, much easier to get in, kill her target, and get out again if she had specifics. Instead, she's willing to risk drawing it out rather than even consider leaving an opening for Pelham to take out another of her contacts.

To anyone else not in her good books, Rubi is quite prickly. She doesn't socialize if given the choice and actually resents having other people in her space. Her idea of a 'friend' is really just a drinking buddy that'll fuck off afterwards and not be seen for a few weeks until she needs a second person to play poker with. So... suffice to say her social skills will need a lot of work before she can actually function properly in a day to day setting where she isn't ferreted away in her desert hidey holes.

Lastly, Rubi Malone is - and always will be - a hardcore adrenaline addict. She does her job because a) it puts money in the bank, b) she's hella good at blowing shit up, and c) it gets her a fix when she needs it. Case and point, bad guy gets chased into a parking lot, jumps into a car, and drives away. Most sane people would either give up or hijack a car to give chase. Rubi? Well, Rubi does exactly the opposite of what sane people would do. She jumps on the roof of another car going in the same direction (ON THE FREEWAY, I SHOULD ADD jfc rubi what the actual hell) and hops from car to car, picking off the bad guy's entourage of henchmen cars with her revolvers and an embarrassing excess of explosions. Car surfing. For real.

Oh, and then she bitchslaps the bad guy through his sun roof, steals his loot, shoots the driver in the back of the head, somehow survives jumping into an oncoming truck behind them, and lights the bad guy on fire after spouting off a cheesy badass one-liner. Of course this leads up to a Cool Guys Don't Look At Explosions ® moment.

I really wish I was making this up.

Rubi Malone, ladies and gentlemen. Tryhard Road Queen of all tryhards.
Abilities/Powers: For strengths, Rubi's first and foremost weapon is plain and simple determination. Once she tastes blood (proverbial or not), she's next to impossible to shake. In Pelham's case, she chased him across three continents and killed five of his closest lieutenants in one-on-one combat alongside of countless nameless thugs in his employ just to get a shot at him. Simmons, a minor bad guy in the beginning of the game, still gets chased down despite managing to get a head start to escape to a highway.
Secondly, she learns how to handle new firearms in record speed. She prefers to dual-wield most weapons, even toting two shotguns at once despite the recoil she'd have to deal with upon firing either of them. She prefers big guns with a lot of shock and awe to them if she has a choice.
Lastly, she's about 99.9% likely to have a death wish. She's scared of absolutely nothing and will throw herself headfirst into certain death if her goal is on the other side. Considering she hasn't gone and kicked the bucket yet, apparently she's got uncanny luck where that's concerned.

Abilities are as follows:

Bullet Time - Uncanny accuracy meets slow-mo. Rubi is able to pinpoint and eliminate targets while in midair, sliding on her knees over the floor, etc etc. Theoretically, she's capable of firing her guns in tandem at a whopping 16 rounds per second. And that's before upgrading them. Afterwards? 32 rounds per second. Game logic. Go figure.
Ambidextrous - Rubi is able to fire with unnerving precision at two targets at once during Bullet Time.
Acrobatics - There's a reason why she's got a monkey motif on her guns. Malone comes equipped with a stash of acrobatic moves designed to keep her airborne and out of reach. (I.e. wall-running, using npc bad guys as a launching pad, etc etc)
Rage Mode - Triggered when something really pisses her off - like when shooting someone point-blank splatters her face with their blood. Malone goes into a killing frenzy that amps up her firing rate and physical strength by obscene amounts. In-game occasions where Rage Mode is triggered, she mows down the population of a small city in NPC henchmen without breaking a sweat, racking up a multiplier that maxes out at 60 kills. In Rage Mode, Rubi will indiscriminately mow down anyone or anything that gets in her way and won't stop unless physically incapacitated, unconscious, or until her fixated target has been killed.
Regen Multiplier - The more she kills, the more she regenerates. Stylish points (switching up acrobatic moves to chain kills) power up the multiplier meter to a maximum of 5x, giving her a distinct advantage in 10-to-1 (or more) combat. In Rage Mode, she becomes nigh untouchable with the multiplier maxed. To keep it reasonable in in-game settings, her health will not regenerate but she will gain a second wind if allowed to slaughter enough baddies.

And now the setbacks. After Rage Mode (To make it more palatable for DW games) Rubi will need considerable time and rest to recuperate, and will be particularly vulnerable immediately after Rage Mode wears off. I interpret it as an adrenaline high that numbs the pain. So, really, she's still going to take damage (and it's gonna hurt like a bitch after) but the immediate effects are delayed.
Remember what I said about being an adrenaline junkie? Still applies. She'll stick her neck out a lot over stupid things just to try to pick fights or engage in life-threatening activities as often as she can get away with. It's a double edged sword and can be just as much a disadvantage as an advantage.
Less important, but she hates to fly. Whether this means a simple airplane or anything else, she'll make sure everyone knows just how miserable she is if forced to get on an aircraft.
Finally, Rubi is a plain old human being. Fact. Stick her in an unattainable situation and she will fail, just like any other person will. Rage Mode is her one and only backup plan, and if it doesn't bail her out she's as good as dead.
Items/Weapons: Twin revolvers and one katana.

Sample Entry: Talking trash at Boba Fett. They are the worst soulmates.

Sample Entry Two: What a crock of bullshit.

That was Rubi's current mantra as she stomped out to the crappy little stack of broken bricks and grime that they called a well in Haven, a thoroughly dinged pot rattling in hand. Of course they couldn't have running water here. Of course she insists on having a hot bath now and then. To say her mindset was anywhere short of 'complete and utter murder' would be a blatant lie and anyone unfortunate enough to cross her path would say the same. The cold weather did nothing except sour her temper further.

Down went the bucket, more or less tossed off to the side so Rubi could pry a small chunk of loose mortar off the edge of the well (it was a miracle she didn't just yank half of it over tbh - that wasn't a careful removal), leaned over to get a good angle on the well interior, and hucked the misshapen piece of brick down into the darkness like a fastball. There's no answer of crackling ice. No answer of anything, really.

But she's here for water, and water Malone will get. It takes some fumbling to get her numb fingers to work properly - in hindsight finding some mittens or something similar would be a good idea next time - and after two attempts she managed to hook the bucket handle on properly, lowering it as fast as the squeaking winch would allow, and started the tedious process of hauling the full bucket back up.
Or attempted to, anyway.

With a squealing, discordant shriek of metal, the rusted pulley gave a violent shake followed by an echoing SNAP from down in the well. Rubi had exactly 1/10th of a second to react before the trailing end of the severed rope came snaking up like a bullwhip and swatted her right in the face with enough force to knock her over.
The water and loss of bucket was immediately forgotten in favor of falling flat on her ass and thoroughly abusing the well with a stream of invective that reached the very limits of her cussing arsenal while rolling back and forth on the gravel, both hands jammed firmly to her lacerated forehead and the soon-to-be bruise that would blossom there.

Screw it. No bath was worth this amount of effort or abuse.

Character Name: Padmé Naberrie Amidala Skywalker
Canon: Star Wars
Canon Point: Right after her death.
Background/History: Early Life // Queen // Senator // Clone Wars // End of Democracy
padme_amidala: (l i b e r t y dies)

[personal profile] padme_amidala 2014-11-16 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: Padmé is an extremely selfless and dignified person. She knows what she can offer her people and she is ready and willing to put her own desires last. Many suitors have known her ambition to better her world (and the galaxy for that matter) and not all of them have taken it well. But that is of little to no consequence to Padmé. She has always been a protector and proponent of order, peace, stability and freedom. Anyone who tries to distract her from her dreams will be met with a stern visage.

However, after she stepped down from being Queen Amidala, a boy named Anakin Skywalker awakened a part of her that she had ignored for many years. At first, she fought the emotions, but it was inevitable. Towards him, she isn't a Queen or a Senator or any other political presence; she is only a girl who is experiencing love for the first time. That is perhaps why she didn't see - or didn't want to see - his descent to the Dark Side. Unfortunately by the time she finally saw him for what he had become, it was too late.

Because of those events surrounding Anakin (as well as the galaxy via Palpatine), Padmé carries a lot of guilt. That guilt is doubled when she thinks about the children she wasn't able to raise or protect. However, even under the weight of that guilt, she hasn't lost her passion to do what's right. She hopes - she prays - that Anakin will see the light one day, but until then, she is going to use her second chance to protect others and use her experience and intelligence - both of which are extensive - to aid those around her. She is naturally drawn to pushing back chaos and establishing order. Her personal issues - with Anakin and the twins - can go on the back burner until she either feels strong enough to face them (which might never happen) or when Haven gives her no other choice.

Padmé knows that things have a way of traveling in a circle. As long as she is alive, there are opportunities and she has no intention of missing out on any of them.

To make things simpler, I have divided her mental and emotion strengths from her mental and emotional weaknesses. Padmé, despite her once rigid control of her emotions, is now a woman of extremes - particularly when those she loves and/or hatesdislikes intensely are involved.

Strengths:
Mental: Not just anyone can be a Queen or a Senator. Even fewer people could manage to be both in their lifetime. Padmé has always been intelligent. Even as a child, she strove for excellence and righting the wrongs in her world.

Yet, after serving as a Queen and a Senator, Padmé isn't as much of an idealist as she was in her youth. She sees that common sense doesn't always win the day and, while that saddens her, she will continue to use her sharp wit and intelligent mind to make things better. To her, there is right and there is wrong. As long as people give into what is wrong, the Dark Side wins.

Emotional: As a political figure, Padmé is dignified, strong-willed, witty and stern. She has little sympathy for those that delude themselves and she will show that disgust openly. However when she respects another, she gives them her full attention and engages in repartee with them.

As a wife and a mother, Padmé is much softer. She shows her love openly with happy smiles, gentle touches and quiet support. In truth, this emotional side of Padmé is probably closer to her true self. She thoroughly enjoys being around family and friends and this is the sphere where she truly shines.

Weaknesses:
Mental: Underneath her steely resolve to right the world, Padmé is a sensitive woman. She is hurt when things don't go well in the political sphere; she is hurt when her people - who are no different than her own family in her eyes - are suffering. That desperation is what truly drives her to keep fighting. However there are times it overwhelms her and she doesn't know what to do.

Her mental weakness is probably what drew her to Anakin in the first place actually. She likes (and respects) the thought processes and mental strength of the Jedi. She allows herself to rely on those like Obi-Wan and Anakin - which isn't an easy task for her because she can be quite stubborn. However she also realizes that she can't look after everything and everyone all the time. By allying herself to the Jedi, she is much stronger mentally, physically and emotionally - though don't think she doesn't argue with them when inspiration strikes. No one is above answering for their actions - even if they are a Jedi Master.

Emotional: Her mental and emotional weaknesses go hand in hand. When she is out of ideas politically or with her family, she gives into desperation. She has been known to cry before - she even plead for love and reason when Anakin went over to the Dark Side. Therefore Padmé isn't invincible - far from it. She is a passionate woman who, for the most part, can keep her cool. However when she runs into a brick wall or is given horrifying news, she reacts like any normal young woman - with frustration, desperation and tears.

It should be noted that, since her relationship with Anakin began, Padmé has shown her emotions with far more ease. She is like a regular young woman for the first time in her life - one placed in a heart-breaking situation nonetheless - and far less like the cool-headed Queen and/or Senator she used to be. Though the skills she learned as a Queen and Senator have not been forgotten - and she can fall back on them when there is a need - they won't be put to use where Anakin, Luke, Leia, Obi-Wan or even Palpatine are concerned. Towards them, her heart is bare and raw.

[personal profile] padme_amidala 2014-11-16 06:20 am (UTC)(link)
Abilities/Powers: Strengths:

Physical: Padmé is a slight woman (she is only 99 pounds), but she is physically fit. She can use weapons (as seen in The Fight for Theed). She is also quite agile and quick on her feet - which has kept her alive when the Jedi couldn't totally ensure her protection.

Additionally Padmé seems to have a fairly high pain tolerance. In the Battle on Geonosis, she was able to keep her cool even after being clawed on the back. Also, when she fell out of the ship after escaping the assassination attempt, she managed to land in such a way that she didn't break any bones. There are other examples of her physical abilities - all of which show that Padmé isn't just a figurehead; she is someone that can and will fight.

Weaknesses:

Physical: While she can defend herself to a certain degree, Padmé is a small woman. She can easily be overpowered and there are powers (such as those possessed by Jedi) that she simply cannot guard again. In fact it was, in part, thanks to Anakin's power that she met her death after giving birth to the twins.

Items/Weapons: Her funeral attire and the pendant/necklace Anakin gave her.
Sample Entry: 8/09 post and threads (for Luceti).
Sample Entry Two: The dark quiet of the trees was comforting. Padmé found herself wandering from one trunk to another, barely thinking - barely feeling. She was afraid to feel. If she allowed herself that weakness, she might fall apart. Indistinct images filled her mind, each one reminding her of a life that could never be. Obi-Wan had been at her side, comforting her while the contractions wracked her body with pain. Then there had been small cries. Her twins, her precious twins, had been born into an uncertain world.

Grimacing, she slid down one of the many tree trunks that surrounded her, holding her now empty stomach. There was a lingering soreness - another reminder - that stayed with her, forcing her to bring order to her thoughts. Inevitably, with those thoughts, came emotions. Yet she felt numb - far number than she should.

Who can say how I should feel? I'm a wife who lost her husband and a mother who can't protect her children. I dare anyone to question how I feel!

Anger took hold of her and she balled her slender, petite hands into white-knuckled fists. Burning tears trailed down her cheeks and she allowed herself a moment of true frustration.

"Ani! Why couldn't you listen to me?! Why did you always suspect me of betraying you?!" her voice cracked and she was breathing shallowly, "Our twins are alive. You won't be a father to them..." she shuddered in pain at the notion, "They will grow without us. They will grow never knowing how much we wanted to see them!"

And, if she was honest with herself, she didn't wholly blame Anakin for that outcome. She should have seen... She should have known...

"I'm sorry." she took a deep breath and used the bark to pull herself to her feet, her fingernails digging into the wood, "Please don't forget me... Them. One day, you will see..."

She had to believe that. He would see the error of his ways and their twins - Luke and Leia - would show him the path out of the Dark. She couldn't be his light, but they could.

Raising the pendant he had carved for her so long ago, Padmé kissed the cool surface and resolved herself to take one day at a time. Perhaps their paths would cross again, but, if not, she chose to believe in his goodness. He needed her support now more than ever - even if she couldn't, physically, be by his side.

"I love you. Ani, Luke, Leia..." she prayed her words would reach them and they would know. It was the best she could do, though she ached to hold her infants in her arms. To live without them - without him - was going to be a true trial indeed.

Personality: Red is a woman of thought, planning, and action. She's also a woman of great talent, having spent five years in the top percentile of performing artists. However, despite her predilection to take action and her vocal occupation, Red is a private person. Even when she had her voice she was rare to explain the why behind her actions, whether it be selecting two non-traditional disciplines (music and linguistics, she cited "personal reasons" as her motivation) at a school that excelled in civic planning or the influence and meaning behind her music. Once she makes up her mind it usually doesn't matter what other people say or think, she executes the action that she's decided will be best without her resolve wavering. This can be seen multiple times such as when she turns left, back to the city instead of right as the Transistor directs her, or at the end when she decides to join him within the Transistor despite his great protests. This ability to plan, decide, and act is key to Red's personality, especially without her voice. She's not the type to sit around and waffle over a decision for ages; she simply takes what she has and knows, and makes up her mind without much drama or hesitation. That is not to say that she rushes into situations without thought or consideration, rather she shows great insight and understanding for the world around her, such as when she realized the effect her music had on people and took measures to cause as little disturbance as possible until she was ready to face the public again. Even when shaken, her resolve is quickly restored and she is able to move to action as necessary, as shown by her quick recovery from the Camerata's attack (which robbed her of her voice and the life of her lover) and her acquisition of the Transistor.

Speaking of the Transistor, where Red is action and agency, he is simply a voice. But due to the Camerata's attempt to Process Red, they've become inseparable and it's not possible to address one without the other. While he once was a person with a body and his own life (a life he spent with Red), both were lost in the attack. Now that he can only exist as a companion voice to Red, what's important to him is that he can be with and support her, as he loves her deeply. He was even more private than her, and seemed to exist somewhat as her shadow, by her side but not in her way and without being noticed by many others; in this way, his role hasn't changed much. However, he is not without will, his own opinions, and desires, though he can no longer act on them. Mainly he doesn't argue Red's decisions and actions even when they differ from his own desires, but if she's acting dangerously he voices great disapproval, such as when she decides to join him within the Transistor. He holds more caution and hesitation than Red, and his primary concern overall is for her safety and well being, but he also has a fierce side, focusing on wanting to take down Red's enemies for the sake of revenge rather than for any other reason. Though he can't do anything more than talk, he still wants to help Red and to that extent he tries to make up for her loss of voice by speaking for the two of them, becoming her support as the city around them dies.

While Red is decisive and action oriented, that is not to say that she is always moving and pressuring. She loves her own share of fun and relaxation, whether that be napping in hammock or eating pizza from Junction Jan's (Sea Monster is the only choice, really). It's easy to put a smile on her face and she's friendly enough with the people she gets to know. As a music idol, she's not a stranger to people, fans, and the spotlight, but Red doesn't surround herself with masses of people, but rather a few close souls that are important to her. Those are people that she can rely on in times of duress, for she is not always unshakable and has her moments where she needs to know she's not alone. During those moments she needs reassurance and support from those she loves, and that's when she does the rare thing of explaining her inner mind, letting her worries and thoughts be seen by the people close to her heart. She carries two new weights as well: the well-being of the Transistor and the loss of her voice. Even though she still has her actions left, her voice was her career and life, and her songs were her way of communicating her inner thoughts to others (though a bit obtusely). After the attack, the Transistor is her link to that old life, since the voice and mind now within it was the closest person to her and her work. Not only does that connection exist, but the voice in the Transistor is the only thing she has left of her lover, and so she relies on him for support.

Even though she does not necessarily share her mind with just anyone, Red still thinks about the people around her and shows them consideration. Although she can act selfishly, it is not until she has been driven into a corner and there is no one left to consider, such as when she has the option to rebuild Cloudbank despite all the citizens being Processed but instead chooses to enter the Transistor. Although she could have simply run away from the Process and Camerata (as the Transistor urged her to do) she decides to fight them to protect the city and the people within it. Red understands that even after being given a tool that can erase and rebuild her city at will that the true heart of things lies within people and society, and she holds those things to be extremely valuable, even more than her own life. Much of her music shows that she considers free will and diversity of thought to be important aspects of being and existing (We All Become and Signals), which is a contributing factor to her silence on her own opinions as she does not want to influence the opinions of others. As such, she promotes individuality and even fights for it when resources (such as the Transistor or her music) are made available to her. And fight she will, as Red shows no hesitation to combat the Process and the Camerata when they start attacking Cloudbank. She's protective of those around her and has a fierce streak, which also comes out in her music (In Circles). This ferocity ties into her determination and willingness to take action, and is quite easy to see as Red tears off the bottom of her concert gown, dons a jacket of her dead lover, and takes her newly acquired Transistor into battle against an enemy she never knew existed.

[personal profile] crashfunction 2014-11-16 07:20 am (UTC)(link)
Abilities/Powers: The Transistor is Red's way of fighting and comes with one primary function and the ability to equip secondary abilities. The primary function originates from the Transistor while the other functions are gathered from strong willed, influential, and unique people who have been Processed and/or killed with the Transistor (Cloudbank unique, i.e. Red would not gain a new ability by killing anyone/anything in Haven). The Transistor can be equipped with four secondary functions, three of which have a single modifier slot and one of which has two modifier slots, and two passive slots. All secondary functions can be equipped to any of these slots and perform differently depending on if they are active, upgrade, or passive. The Transistor has 20 memory to allocate, with each secondary function costing a certain amount of memory, and the equipped functions cannot exceed this allocation. It is possible to increase the amount of memory, unlock two more passive slots, and unlock second upgrade slots on more active functions; these are gotten in game though leveling, and thus would only happen in Haven under mod approved circumstances (no current plans on this occurring). The designation of functions to certain slots is available only at Access Terminals within Cloudbank, and thus the state of functions will not be able to be changed in Haven unless significant technical research and functionality was created to access them (also not planning on this happening). Below are the functions Red has access to, described as they are equipped (i.e. the passive ability if equipped in a passive slot), with links to extended details.
Turn(): This is the primary function of the Transistor. It allows the user to pause time for only them and plan a limited number of moves. The user can move (limited) and plan functions to use (limited). Turn() allots 100 planning points to be spent across these actions, though not all points must be used before executing the Turn() queue. Alternatively, if there are a few spare planning points Turn() can be overloaded with one final function, regardless (within limit, none of the functions Red has right now would exceed this limit so it's not applicable) of how many points they cost. Overloading Turn() allows no functions to be used again until Turn() is fully recharged. If Turn() is executed without overload then functions can be used in real time while Turn() is recharging. Note that executing Turn() with points to spare will allow it to recharge starting from the spare points, thus allowing it to be used sooner. There is no given value for how much movement costs in Turn() and so it will be estimated at 10 points every 5 feet. Base recharge for Turn() is 5 seconds. All actions queued and subsequently executed from Turn() will happen at a higher speed, minimally with functions and extremely with movement.
Crash(): Harm and distrupt nearby Targets, exposing vulnerabilities. Close range stab, base damage is low, causes 2.1 seconds of stun, has a turn cost of 20.
Breach(): Pierce Targets with great force across long distances. Long range energy projectile, high damage, piercing ability, has a turn cost of 42.
Spark(): Launch fast unstable shells that split into explosive particles. Can be placed at low-medium range, has a low-medium area of effect, low damage, has a turn cost of 20.
Jaunt(): Recover more quickly after using Turn(). Passive, Turn() recharges at 125% speed.
Mask(): Conceal the User's physical self, amplifying the next action taken. Grants 6.3 seconds stealth, 10 second cooldown once User is revealed, next action causes 200% damage, usable in Turn() recovery, has a turn cost of 5.
Load(): Increases the area of effect of most abilities. Upgrade, very high damage in close range User centered blast.
Help(): Gain a 25% chance to turn into a SuperUser on using Turn(). Passive, long range and extremely high damage in a concentrated area ignoring defense ratings, consumes entire Turn() planning phase.
Bounce(): Chain-reactive, deflecting. Not equipped.
Ping(): Reduce Turn() planning cost and speed up most functions. Upgrade, Turn() planning cost reduction 25%, action speed 120%.
Get(): Magnetic, rearranging. Not equipped.
Purge(): Applies a corruption effect to most functions. Upgrade, low damage over 2 seconds, slows Target slowed 70% for duration.
Modified Functions and Their New Abilities
Breach() + Ping() + Purge(): Breach has a turn cost of 31.5 with the reduction from Ping(), fires has a fire time of ~1 second, and applies the conditions from Purge() to all Targets it hits.
Mask() + Load(): Creates a high damage blast from Load() when activated, this does not break stealth.
Set Up of Transistor
Active Functions: Crash(), Breach() + Ping() + Purge(), Spark(), Mask() + Load().
Passive Functions: Help(), Jaunt().

Items/Weapons: Just her clothes and the Transistor.

Sample Entry: [ The video feed shows a red haired woman, obviously sitting, since she's resting her arm on the guard of a greatsword with her face next to the hilt, half of the sword showing in the video. Except it's teal and gold, with a red looking... well, almost like an eye. A man's voice is heard and the sword flashes with the voice, the woman never opening her mouth. ]

Hello, I'm the Transistor, and this is Red, and, well, we're new. And we've got questions. First off, can we get anything to write with? Notice how these things don't come with any text capability, and Red needs to talk somehow.

[ The woman gives a small smile and a wave, still not speaking. ]

Next, what's there even to do here? I'm not seeing much of anything around here, not even a place to get flatbread, or a concert hall, or-

[ Red raps the Transistor gently with her fist, silently telling him to get on with it. ]

You can look outside as well as I can, and there's not much happening. So what is there to do? Can't make us sit around all day for no reason, there wouldn't be a point in us being here.
Sample Entry Two: The city was... dim. Dim and dull. That was the first thing Red had noticed here, was how different the shapes and colors were. Cloudbank was bright and brilliant with colors and lights everywhere. Here the Transistor stuck out like a sore thumb, all teal and gold with a splash of red, glassy and smooth, lighting up when he spoke. In Cloudbank it fit in just fine with the colored lights all around, reflecting off the water in the canals, the tile on the walkway. Heck, Goldbank was even called that- "gold" "bank"- and this place was called Haven. A haven was a place of refuge, and this felt like one, but that was because they were lacking so much. It gave the feel that without what meager amount was supplied by the city that they would all die from any number of things: starvation, thirst, and monsters seemed to be at the top of the list. Even though she could fight the monsters, there was little she could do against the other two, and there certainly wasn't a Junction Jan's here.

"Red, you still there? What are you thinking about?"

The Transistor pulled her out of thought, and she looked over to where it rested beside her with a smile. Even if they couldn't talk anymore, even if they couldn't hold hands, couldn't laugh together, at least they were still together. If she had lost her voice and lost him... it might have been too much. She might not have been able to pull herself together fast enough to fight the Process. But here they were, in some unknown Haven, still together. They could make it through this as well, she'd make sure of that. She'd fight for it, make sure to get them back home in one piece. Certainly they'd lost enough pieces already.

She stood up from her seat at the table and picked the Transistor up, heading for the door. "We're going out? Anything in particular?" Red gave a shrug in response. She didn't have any plans, but something was sure to come up that she could help with, the prerequisite being that she couldn't be holed up inside her apartment. Fine, this suited her anyway. "That's like you. Lead the way."

Personality:

Milla Maxwell isn't just your average girl, she's pretty extraordinary.

From the very beginning of the story, she's fierce and determined. She has a mission that's been given to her and she never wavers from reaching her goal no matter the cost. She tries without relent and does not give up until her objective is complete. Even when others tell her to slow down, or to stop, she doesn't listen. Because she is Milla Maxwell, and she never gives up. This is evident when an accident occurs later on and Milla becomes temporarily paralyzed. Even though she cannot walk or move her legs she never gives in to forgetting her mission. She goes as far as to crawl along the floor because that is just how little she wants to stop moving forward.

This goes back to when Milla was a child, she didn't know much else aside from what she was told by The Four and what she learned from books. This caused her to have a very different view of the world than an average person. What she knew of humans and the way they live their lives she knew from observing them and reading about them in books. Due to this, when Milla is older she doesn't really understand human interaction very well. She often comes off as cold and distant when in actuality she just doesn't understand why she is seemingly so cold. In her eyes she's just doing what is necessary to save everyone, even if that means she has to sacrifice being sentimental in the process. Like when Elize has lost her doll Teepo and asks Milla if they can please look for him. Even though Milla is extremely fond of Elize, she says no because they don't have time and it would be too great a detour for her to consider.

That isn't to say that Milla is mean or cruel, because she's not at all. She's actually incredibly kind! It's just hard for her to express human emotions very easily because she was raised like a spirit and not a human. Throughout the course of the story Milla consistently encourages her party members. With Elize for example there comes a point where she needs to jump down from a very high point and she doesn't know if she can do it. Milla tells her that she knows that she can do it, and so Elize takes a leap of faith and Milla catches her. There is another time later where Leia is very upset with low self esteem and talks down to herself saying she's holding everyone back. Milla then steps in and tells her to quit thinking that she's inferior to anyone here. Because to Milla, everyone in her party has a meaningful life and they are all equally strong and important.

Milla's emotional development changes over the course of the story. Toward the end she's more expressive and has learned a great deal from human culture. She even views humans very differently than she did in the beginning. At the start, she mentions how she sees man as being like babies. Beings that couldn't stand on their own and needed to be protected. However, through meeting Jude and the rest of her friends she learns that humans are capable on their own and her fondness for them grows even more. Speaking of humans, Milla really loves humans. She loves both humans and spirits more than anything else and would give her life to protect them. Actually, she does that. Near the middle of the game Milla sacrifices herself and dies because at the time she believed that it would save both spirits and humans. That's how much she loves them, and that love is pretty strong. After the events of the game she even takes on the title of Maxwell, one that she earned from a young age and becomes the new Lord of the Spirits. This allows her to watch over the birth of new spirits and protect the world she loves so dearly.

Aside from being physically strong, Milla is also intellectually strong. She's able to figure people out, and know when someone has malicious intent versus when someone has a kind heart. This is pretty evident by how she's trusting of Alvin at first but when things start to go awry she can tell that he's very untrustworthy. From that moment on, she always keeps an eye on him to make sure that he doesn't put her mission in jeopardy. This isn't to say that Milla is a genius. Most of what she knows she's learned from books and what other people have told her. She is also very capable of being wrong, because when she has her grand encounter with the Lance of Kresnik she realizes that her preconceptions about the Lance had never been right at all. Despite this, Milla is always willing and quick to learn new things.

Milla's also pretty... strange. She's got an obsession for all things human - even the really mundane things. One of those things being hunger. Milla loves food, actually, to say that she loves food would be an understatement. Milla enjoys the feeling of hunger and the feeling of enjoying a good meal. She salivates at the idea of a roast chicken in Leronde and can really pack down a meal when it's given to her. She even says "I quite enjoy ingesting calories with you!" after eating a meal with Jude and Alvin. Like, who says that? When Milla becomes a spirit after she dies, she can no longer feel the sensation of hunger however she still enjoys eating. Another example of Milla's obsession is when the group is traveling to Kanbalar and Milla sneezes. She gets extremely excited at the prospect of mucus because it's something only a human could experience. Milla really loves everything that makes a human, human. She never goes without displaying a fondness for human behavior whenever one of the group acts in such a "human" way.

Milla is strong-willed, protective, smart, kind and... sometimes a little weird. However these are all qualities that make Milla Maxwell the great Lord of the Spirits that everyone knows and loves.

Abilities/Powers:

In the world of Tales of Xillia there exists both spirits and humans. Humans in the land of Rieze Maxia are born with something in their brain called a "mana lobe" which allows them to channel special magic abilities through the spirits that live alongside them called "Spirit Artes". The humans and spirits take on a symbiotic relationship as a result of this, and live in harmony.

Now as for Milla... well. Milla is a human created by the great spirit Maxwell who became a spirit when she died. Milla is also able to feel when a spirit is born, or when a spirit dies. When she was growing up, she was watched over by The Four Great Spirits that reign over the four elements; Undine, Efreet, Gnome and Sylph. They were both her caretakers as well as her family. They provided her with everything she needed as she grew up into the woman she is now. Due to her close relationship with them and them recognizing her as Maxwell she is able to summon them whenever she needs them. Milla is also able to use spirit artes by channeling spirits. She has a special skill along with her spirit artes called "Spirit Shift". This allows her to "shift" her long range artes to close range artes in battle depending on the situation.

Milla's Spirit Artes can be found in a very very extensive list here.

Her other special ability is one when she linked with another person's Lilium Orb. Milla is able to use a skill called Bind and this means when an enemy is stunned she holds it in place while the other person goes hog wild on it.

Aside from all of this, Milla is also a very skilled with a sword. She is able to master the art of sword fighting from Alvin in a very short amount of time and her attack patterns in battle show that shes extremely agile and powerful. One of her main strengths being aerial combat, maneuvering her body with ease.

Basically, Milla is a powerhouse!

Items/Weapons:

- Her sword (specifically the one called "Balanced Blade")
- The Aspyrixis on her leg without its spirit fossil
- Her Lillium Orb
