Applications Two

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED!
The next application opening date is Friday 16th January, 7pm EST.
The next application processing date is Friday 23rd January, 7pm EST.

IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE

We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.

We now have a test drive community at [community profile] haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.

While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

Personality: Loki is a complex creature whose personality is the union of an echo of the old Loki and his child self prior to the echo tricking the child into erasing himself so that he could take the boy’s body over, incidentally taking over the good name that the boy had tried so hard to carve out for his new incarnation as well. Towards the end of his life Loki was feeling trapped by fate, by design, that he was destined to be nothing more than Loki—the villain of the story, unable to control his own fate. This rebirth has given him a chance to polish his brand new and stolen reputation to a shine.

So, even though Loki has been given this brand new existence, it is a tainted, one built upon a lie. Speaking of lies, this is the God of Mischief’s key, defining trait—Loki lies. He cannot be trusted, at least not entirely, to do the right thing, even though he has been shown defying this aspect of his nature with his “conscience.” His conscience being the spirit of his younger self haunting him, reminding him that he’s one slip up, one evil scheme, one horrible lie away from falling into the trap of his own fate. So between the memories of his old self, the child that he once was, and the desire to become something entirely different we have this new Loki.

So, how does this Loki differ from his past incarnations, well he does so in a number of ways. For starters he’s not the jealous, living in his brother’s shadow, type that he once was, Loki actually enjoys a relationship with Thor that is healthy thanks to kid Loki. Thanks to his child self he aspires to the trust and affection of his brother and kid Loki managed to attain it quite genuinely. Loki, in his present state, is tumultuously trying to keep it and he can only do so through dishonest means, for he cannot tell Thor that the child he knew had been erased so that he could take over and become a new Loki. It all goes back to the foundations of his existence being a lie even though he does his best to foster a good relationships with Thor, with the All-Mother, and with certain hero types on Midgard.

One thing that hasn’t changed about Loki is his desire for self-preservation, or the preservation of his new self. To this end he is not above and beyond a little bit of mischief, a dash of chaos, and when the Avengers were all set and ready to attack him, a few carefully woven words from his tricky mouth had them fighting against one another long enough for him to hack the S.H.I.E.L.D. database for information. So when misdirection serves its purpose, especially in the interest of self-preservation, he will use it. Another part of this desire for self-preservation comes from his refusal to rely solely on sorcery to solve his problems, even though he could probably magic himself out of most situations, he is concerned that he’ll fall too deeply into his old ways, forever in chains, with every thought burning. Basically he wants to protect himself from stepping into a role he doesn’t want to step into again, or to prolong it as long as he can manage, the God of Evil. He claimed that he would rather take Hawkeye’s arrow to the face every time than to step back into that role again, so he is more cautious with his magic.

Loki also differs from his previous incarnation due to his growing appreciation for Midgard, also perpetuated by kid Loki. Whereas the old Loki’s interest in Earth couldn’t possibly go anywhere beyond wanting to mess with it and the inhabitants of it because it was a world that Thor loved, this new Loki has found some value in it. The songs he once despised, he’s finding magic in, the technology is also fascinating to him, he has made friends—or the approximation thereof—on Earth, and finally the bacon. He is hopelessly obsessed with breakfast meats. Also, for the Young Avengers and their friends he foot the bill for their new year’s bash in spite of the fact that he didn’t personally attend.

Of course the reason Loki did not personally attend was due to his angst issues and resentment to a certain degree, which he does have. Loki’s resentment stems from the fact that he feels that people who do the dirty work don’t get enough credit, even if he was partially responsible for the things that happened in Young Avengers. He also knew that if he stayed, his new “friends” would only end up forgiving him, and he didn’t want to give them the chance to—whether he is being petty or feels as though he doesn’t deserve it is up for debate. It could very well be the leftover feelings from kid Loki as well, the child where no matter what he did or how hard he tried he would mess something up somewhere along the way. Viewed for his faults and not for his good intentions, seen as Loki, the God of Evil, and not for whom he was trying to be.

Loki is constantly at odds with himself. With his desire to change and this feeling that he is destined to be Loki and in spite of some of the good that he does, that doesn’t dismiss the fact that he has also done some pretty bad things as well. When he first joined the Young Avengers he manipulated Teddy and Billy’s feelings in an effort to convince Billy to loan him his power so that he could be the only one to live and escape. Once he got what he wanted he did run away, which is a testament to what lurks beneath his surface, but with some “conscience” talk from his child self he returned to help indicating that he can and does feel guilt and responsibility in his new body to some degree. He continues to feel guilty about what he did to his Leah construct, his best friend, even though it was really kid Loki who sent her to the distant past under pressure from his Echo.

So clearly Loki is this dynamic individual, constantly at war with what he’s trying to be and what he used to be. On top of all of that he still enjoys mischief, he enjoys being whimsical, he likes a good banter, he can be playful and downright amiable when the mood strikes. He’s also not beneath being slapstick and sarcastic if need be, though now that he’s grown he’s a little less slapstick. There is also a side of Loki that can be charming and gentle at the best of moments, such as when he was speed dating Verity, he was able to sympathize with her lie seeing curse—even though he couldn’t promise not to lie to her personally.

Abilities/Powers:
→ Physical:
o Superhuman strength: Loki possesses superhuman strength, surpassing that of the average Asgardian male. He can potentially lift up to 50 tons.
o Superhuman durability: Loki’s ability to withstand wear, pressure, and damage, far exceeds normal human capabilities. He also has a heightened resistance to the elements, particularly the cold.
o Superhuman stamina: He possesses superhuman levels of stamina due to his Frost Giant heritage and metabolism.
o Longevity: Loki, like all other Asgardians, ages at a far slower rate than human beings enabling him to live for thousands of years. He is not immune to aging, or even death, it just comes much slower for him and his people.
o Healing factor: While Loki has superhuman durability he can be injured, but he can recover from his injuries at an accelerated rate. He can even reattach limbs if necessary.
o All-tongue: enables those who hear the Asgardia language to hear it in their own language.
o Hacking skills: Since Loki has become acquainted with, and fascinated with, modern technology; he has learned to hack it. He’s even hacked into SHIELD databases.
o Lip reading: He can read lips.
o Combat skills: He can hold his own in a fight, as an Asgardian inhabitant he was taught the nuances of battle, and while he might be prone to using magic he can wield a weapon. He’s shown fighting Sigurd quite expertly with a sword while balancing on a clothes line.
o Intelligent: He has genius level intellect, a quick study, able to learn new concepts in a single night as a child, as an adult it takes even less time. When it comes to the arcane he is basically a veritable encyclopedia.

→ Magical: When it comes to magic, this version of Loki is reluctant to overuse this ability due to the fact that he is concerned about reverting back to his old self.
o Illusions: Loki is a master of illusions, able to fool the senses or plant false ideas into the minds of others in a variety of ways.
• Glamour: it’s a sub form of illusion that he officially titles glamour in which he can make things appear like something like. In Young Avengers he made Taxi cards look like I.D. cards so that he and the other Young Avengers could get into a club and so that he could drink wine. Apparently his illusion was able to convince the people at the club that he had a growth defect.

o Shape-shifting: Loki has been shown to take on a variety of forms, stating in Agent of Asgard that he can turn himself into anything as long as it’s him. In AoA he’s taken the form of a woman and he’s also taken the form of an anthropomorphic fox.
o Sorcery: While in YA and AoA Loki doesn’t rely on heavy use of sorcery he is capable of using it to varying and multiple purposes. Supplementing his physical abilities, summoning, moving objects, teleporting, steeping objects with magical properties for as long as he maintains the spell, and much more.

→ Gram:
o Can pierce lies with truth magic.
o It can force possessed corruption out of individuals such as when Thor was possessed by the evil malice of Loki’s former self.
o Because the sword is a sword of truth the amount of pain and damage is equivalent to the lie being told.
o If an individual is under telepathic influence the sword can free them as the influence is untrue.
o It can also act as a normal sword and can deal damage thus.

Items/Weapons:
→ His coat made from thread stolen from Svartalfheim. AKA a vanishing cloak.
→ Gram: Sword of Truth.
→ Seven League Boots, capable of running up any impossible surfaces.

Sample Entry:

[ v i d e o ]

Hail, well met, and other such judicious greetings of similar denotations, o’ city of macabre wonders! While I’m most flattered that you’ve chosen me, the tricky of trickiests, to be a member of your bracket, I find your welcome…rude. Shockingly rude!

[And he waves an index finger disapprovingly at the screen, not looking particularly put out, in fact he’s wearing his best of devilry faces. Something about him suggesting that he could…potentially…be up to no good if left to his own devices for too long. So, denizens, perhaps you shouldn’t leave him on his own for long.]

The roll in accommodations leave something to be desired [he flaps his hand dismissively here] that, however, I can grudgingly forgive. What I’m having difficulty with is the lack of refreshments…and specifically, I mean breakfast. It’s morning, the sun has risen and is greeting me most glaringly, how glorious it is. I, however, refuse to discuss the terms of my stay until I see an assortment of breakfast meats spread out in offering before me.

[Well, hop to, he has a busy day ahead of him, there’s funny business to be had, and a whole new world just waiting for him to bring on the party.]

So this is my demand, as a captive I believe I’m entitled to at least one.

Sample Entry Two:

A new world, eh? Loki had been privy to many a worlds in his long lifetime, well, lifetimes…he’s only recently acquired this body, but that doesn’t mean this incarnation hadn’t seen plenty of worlds. During his time with his youthful avenging companions he spent an entire year (or nearly so, mortal reckoning for a busy god of mischief could be difficult to differentiate from time as he knew it) jumping from world to world, dimension to dimension, and universe to universe. So he wouldn’t really color himself surprised so much as intrigued by finding himself in such a desolate and limited little world. Intrigued, because he had not traversed to this dimension by his own design so it must have been someone else’s plan, someone else’s game…and that was endlessly nettlesome. Loki was so accustomed to pulling the strings, to being apprised of the mayhem, to causing it…and now someone or something was attempting to usurp him from his domain of expertise…and it was annoying. Especially since that hadn’t the common decency to offer him blueberry pancakes and bacon…bacon, what a magical breakfast wonder.

On the other hand a new world meant a new beginning, a chance to show this world an entirely different Loki…or perhaps this was a world that knew absolutely nothing about him. Oh how grand a blank slate would be! Nothing to prove and he wouldn’t have to fight nearly as hard against the negative perceptions that had been plaguing him in his freshly acquire existence…and the less he had to fight, the less he had to think about his past transgressions. He could focus being the new trickster he was trying so hard to be, a lovable and relatively harmless scamp, with a penchant for causing a little bit of mischief and sweet chaos…now and then. Not frequently, just enough to keep the blood pumping and the excitement fresh. Everyone needed to be kept on their toes, so upset the established way of things a little bit to prevent the world from stagnating too much…that’s who he was. Though, change, Loki was also about change.

First things first, he couldn’t be at ease knowing he was out of the loop, that someone else held all of the cards and that simply could not be. So gathering information was his number one priority priority and as such, the first thing he wanted to know was…where, by Odin’s empty eye socket, were all of the words?
