Applications Two

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED!
The next application opening date is Friday 16th January, 7pm EST.
The next application processing date is Friday 23rd January, 7pm EST.

IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE

We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.

We now have a test drive community at [community profile] haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.

While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

Personality: Loki is a complex creature whose personality is the union of an echo of the old Loki and his child self prior to the echo tricking the child into erasing himself so that he could take the boy’s body over, incidentally taking over the good name that the boy had tried so hard to carve out for his new incarnation as well. Towards the end of his life Loki was feeling trapped by fate, by design, that he was destined to be nothing more than Loki—the villain of the story, unable to control his own fate. This rebirth has given him a chance to polish his brand new and stolen reputation to a shine.

So, even though Loki has been given this brand new existence, it is a tainted, one built upon a lie. Speaking of lies, this is the God of Mischief’s key, defining trait—Loki lies. He cannot be trusted, at least not entirely, to do the right thing, even though he has been shown defying this aspect of his nature with his “conscience.” His conscience being the spirit of his younger self haunting him, reminding him that he’s one slip up, one evil scheme, one horrible lie away from falling into the trap of his own fate. So between the memories of his old self, the child that he once was, and the desire to become something entirely different we have this new Loki.

So, how does this Loki differ from his past incarnations, well he does so in a number of ways. For starters he’s not the jealous, living in his brother’s shadow, type that he once was, Loki actually enjoys a relationship with Thor that is healthy thanks to kid Loki. Thanks to his child self he aspires to the trust and affection of his brother and kid Loki managed to attain it quite genuinely. Loki, in his present state, is tumultuously trying to keep it and he can only do so through dishonest means, for he cannot tell Thor that the child he knew had been erased so that he could take over and become a new Loki. It all goes back to the foundations of his existence being a lie even though he does his best to foster a good relationships with Thor, with the All-Mother, and with certain hero types on Midgard.

One thing that hasn’t changed about Loki is his desire for self-preservation, or the preservation of his new self. To this end he is not above and beyond a little bit of mischief, a dash of chaos, and when the Avengers were all set and ready to attack him, a few carefully woven words from his tricky mouth had them fighting against one another long enough for him to hack the S.H.I.E.L.D. database for information. So when misdirection serves its purpose, especially in the interest of self-preservation, he will use it. Another part of this desire for self-preservation comes from his refusal to rely solely on sorcery to solve his problems, even though he could probably magic himself out of most situations, he is concerned that he’ll fall too deeply into his old ways, forever in chains, with every thought burning. Basically he wants to protect himself from stepping into a role he doesn’t want to step into again, or to prolong it as long as he can manage, the God of Evil. He claimed that he would rather take Hawkeye’s arrow to the face every time than to step back into that role again, so he is more cautious with his magic.

Loki also differs from his previous incarnation due to his growing appreciation for Midgard, also perpetuated by kid Loki. Whereas the old Loki’s interest in Earth couldn’t possibly go anywhere beyond wanting to mess with it and the inhabitants of it because it was a world that Thor loved, this new Loki has found some value in it. The songs he once despised, he’s finding magic in, the technology is also fascinating to him, he has made friends—or the approximation thereof—on Earth, and finally the bacon. He is hopelessly obsessed with breakfast meats. Also, for the Young Avengers and their friends he foot the bill for their new year’s bash in spite of the fact that he didn’t personally attend.

Of course the reason Loki did not personally attend was due to his angst issues and resentment to a certain degree, which he does have. Loki’s resentment stems from the fact that he feels that people who do the dirty work don’t get enough credit, even if he was partially responsible for the things that happened in Young Avengers. He also knew that if he stayed, his new “friends” would only end up forgiving him, and he didn’t want to give them the chance to—whether he is being petty or feels as though he doesn’t deserve it is up for debate. It could very well be the leftover feelings from kid Loki as well, the child where no matter what he did or how hard he tried he would mess something up somewhere along the way. Viewed for his faults and not for his good intentions, seen as Loki, the God of Evil, and not for whom he was trying to be.

Loki is constantly at odds with himself. With his desire to change and this feeling that he is destined to be Loki and in spite of some of the good that he does, that doesn’t dismiss the fact that he has also done some pretty bad things as well. When he first joined the Young Avengers he manipulated Teddy and Billy’s feelings in an effort to convince Billy to loan him his power so that he could be the only one to live and escape. Once he got what he wanted he did run away, which is a testament to what lurks beneath his surface, but with some “conscience” talk from his child self he returned to help indicating that he can and does feel guilt and responsibility in his new body to some degree. He continues to feel guilty about what he did to his Leah construct, his best friend, even though it was really kid Loki who sent her to the distant past under pressure from his Echo.

So clearly Loki is this dynamic individual, constantly at war with what he’s trying to be and what he used to be. On top of all of that he still enjoys mischief, he enjoys being whimsical, he likes a good banter, he can be playful and downright amiable when the mood strikes. He’s also not beneath being slapstick and sarcastic if need be, though now that he’s grown he’s a little less slapstick. There is also a side of Loki that can be charming and gentle at the best of moments, such as when he was speed dating Verity, he was able to sympathize with her lie seeing curse—even though he couldn’t promise not to lie to her personally.
