Applications Three

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED!
RESERVATIONS ARE OPENED!

NOTE: APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED OR PROCESSED FOR APRIL, DUE TO A CURRENT DISCUSSION ON THE GAME'S FUTURE.
RESERVATIONS WILL REMAIN OPEN FOR A LONGER PERIOD.
MAY APPLICATION CYCLE WILL BE POSTED HERE AS SOON AS IT IS DETERMINED.

We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.

We now have a test drive community at [community profile] haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.

While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

To see what we are looking for:

Personality: A good chunk of who Jae-Ha is, is what you see is what you get. He is very up-front, and carries himself with a loud-spoken brand of confidence, in both his behavior, the way he actively presents himself, and certainly a very notable ego- although, it should be noted that he does not put himself above others. He can be very dramatic, ridiculous, has been labeled as a pervert (especially by Hak), and will often fool around and tease others, never minding how long he's known the other party, or otherwise. Not to mention he also is the playboy type, a flirtatious smooth-talker, and always there to greet any and all ladies with a sweet smile and even sweeter words, as well as offer a hand to those in need. — Just as it is with most everyone, however, there is quite a bit more to him than meets the eye.

However, before all of the inner-workings, let's start with what's already been said. Above all else, from the point of view of any who interact with him (even if just once) Jae-Ha is as such: a man who is both carefree and independent, and confident to the point where he'll happily show off, making remarks on how he's the handsome and fearless type, or even comment on other good-looking guys. As seen numerous times, he'll take pride in his position as a pirate, which will include boasting how he has sunken many of the enemy's ships. Although plenty capable of being stealthy - particularly when taking his power into consideration - he will commonly opt to take front and center before his foe, and fighting them head on, no stranger to going all out, with a biting edge. This has earned him praise from the other pirates, who quite admire both his fighting ability, the camaraderie they feel towards him, and the way he'll leap around as though he has wings, which he naturally soaks right up. His way of fighting also extends to after he left Gi-Gan's crew, to travel with Yona and the others, where at times they have faced soldiers. As he once stated, "It's as I expected [Yoon]. . . I'm a former pirate. It seems I'll clash with officials wherever I go." While he might be boastful, he doesn't hold back, taking full advantage of his strengths. Considering that, fighting comes as an absolute thrill to him, and contrary to how he rejects the notion of having a set fate, all due to the dragon's blood, he'll very openly express how much he loves the power he was born with. It especially shows in the way he has absolute overall control.

There are similar elements of the above when it comes to Jae-Ha being all about the women. He welcomes all with open arms, going out of his way to be sure to treat any he meets well. Even though, well, at times his behavior could definitely be taken as overdoing things. More than that, though, is the way he will help. In fact, as he once brought up to Hak, after leading Yona on her life-threatening challenge to go collect the Senjusou, it is one of his main principles in life to "treat all women with the utmost of care." Even if it's a young child, he will fight against the one who brought harm or did wrong by her, all for her sake. A sign, perhaps, that Jae-Ha's behavior isn't strictly about making girls swoon and flock around him. —Although, that still is a present factor, of course. The Awa arc gives the perfect example. Even in the midst of (what had been for many years) a human trafficking ring - run by Yang Kum-Ji, the man who ruled over the area - where the women are in a constant state of distress of catching the sight of his officials and being abducted, Jae-Ha still flirted with a girl, whose friend had been taken, asking to meet the latter, once all the girls were rescued. —An important thing to note, however, is that sometimes hitting up any pretty face he sees (in general) is a part of a bigger picture. Such as visiting brothels, or bars, in order to gather information, or help out a bunch of girls in their work, even upon just meeting them, so that he'll blend in and not appear suspicious to the locals. Although, of course, he's quite fond of brothels, in general.

Alongside taking in a situation as a whole, Jae-Ha is also incredibly perceptive, maybe particularly so when it comes to Yona and the rest. He's able to tell Hak holds feelings for Yona rather soon after they meet. That recognition brings out his teasing nature even more so. He is always making remarks to Hak, just to get a rise out of him. He's far too easy to provoke, too, and at some point, Jae-Ha begins to say things just to get a reaction- which most certainly include getting kicked, punched. smacked, or anything in between by Hak. Which he enjoys, too (to say he has masochistic streak is a bit of an understatement). Jae-Ha is known to include a lot of double-entendre in his manner of speech, most notably when flirting. One of the most common would be, "I'll hold you tight," or "Let me keep you warm". They're aimed at Yona, especially so and once he joins the group, but again, very often to get Hak's attention, to the point where Jae-Ha began to have to reassure him that he's only joking. It should be said, however, that although it would be very easy to assume so (particularly seeing he has that 'pervert' label, and by extension, that [again] one of his favorite hobbies is going to brothels) these remarks are not exactly meant to be straight up lewd. Not that he is otherwise completely innocent, however. Ultimately, though, he does like Hak, seeing him as someone powerful, and one he wouldn't mind fighting alongside with. Jae-Ha's observant side will also apply to Yona. He often tries to gauge how she sees and feels about Hak, however doesn't tease her in the same way, instead, sometimes asking her plain and simple, such as if she felt jealous when seeing Hak being popular with the girls.

Freedom, above all else, is the core foundation to who Jae-Ha is as a whole. As the Ryokuryuu (the Green Dragon) due to their ability, it is in their nature to want to jump around every-and-anywhere possible, longing to fly through the skies. In the town of Ryokuryuu, however, every generation born with the dragon's blood are treated the same: to be tied down and kept out of the public's eye, literally shackled at the wrists and ankles. The power that is within them to be kept a secret, as many years ago, the knowledge of it had once brought chaos and misery to the town. Garou, his predecessor, repeatedly drilled into Jae-Ha that his existence shouldn't be. That the outside world would never accept him because of his dragon's foot. Still, Jae-Ha never gave up on his only desire. "To take away someone's freedom," he's said, "is the ugliest thing one can do in this world." The moment he finally gained the full power of the dragon, Jae-Ha broke his chains and fled, easily evading even how the other villagers tried to shoot him down. He didn't have, nor know, of anywhere in particular to go. All he was sure of was both of the following: he would go forth, following only by his own rules, and live only the way he chose to. In this time, he also would come to learn that there were countless other ways to be tied down, and not only in the more physical sense. This even includes when it comes to the difference between being flirtatious and sweet-talking, and being the one who's being pursued. It's something to feel bound by. Commitment is only okay by him if he chooses it for himself (which still would be a rare thing for him). But nevertheless, as a whole, the fact that he had a supposed 'fate' was something he fought tooth and nail against, even going so far as suppressing his presence, so that the other three dragons wouldn't be able to find him. After a good, though rough, thirteen years of bouncing around from place to place, he found himself upon Gi-Gan's ship, and her band of pirates- and, at some point or another, he had begun to grow comfortable there. It had become like a home; he learned to fight (amongst other things), while also having the freedom to come and go as he wished.

Yona's arrival in Awa - along with both Kija (Hakuryuu/White Dragon) and Shin-Ah (Seiryuu/Blue Dragon), plus Hak and Yoon - was the first time Jae-Ha's sense of freedom had been challenged. He tried to avoid all of them on more than on occasion, to the point where - again - he concealed the presence of his status of being what he is. He did so even long before Kija and Shin-Ah came to Awa. Even having been very physically affected in the moment he met Yona, Jae-Ha remained stubborn in that he would not join her and the others on their journey. While Yona expressed her disappointment only once, too, Jae-Ha was insistent and defensive on numerous occasions that he absolutely did not, and would not, leave with her. When she called him out on his behavior, it completely threw him off. The more involved the group became with both he, Gi-Gan, and the pirate crew, more specifically in their mission to take down Kum-Ji once and all, however, Jae-Ha's opinion began to shift. Yona's actions throughout, and especially with her being the one who ultimately struck the tyrant down, very clearly affected him. Although he remained very against the fate of those who possess the dragon's blood (and still is), one reason why he originally decided to travel with the group out of the fascination he had with Yona, and her being such a risk-taker.

Jae-Ha's beliefs remain tightly in place during his time with the others, just as much as his other habits do. He's one of the more prankster types, however all in good fun, and never aiming to actually hurt anyone. Of course, Hak is often the focus, though all at once it's also to try and get the truth out of the other, in regards to Yona. Even during more serious times, Jae-Ha will sometimes make light of things; they may not be entirely appropriate, however he usually falls right back in line with the matters at hand. The others rather quickly become people whom Jae-Ha fights for, and wants to protect. He's never claimed to be the righteous type, and will go after anyone who crosses them, without holding back- even if that means he has to kill. Similar can be said even for someone (well, girls, in particular) he doesn't really know, as mentioned before.

One of the most significant developments to Jae-Ha, as seen so far, would be his opinions when it comes to the other characters, their own ideas of freedom, and the way they live. His first encounter is with Hak, who stated he was someone's bodyguard (even calling himself a human shield), to which Jae-Ha instantly feels bad for the other, thinking that kind of position sounds miserable. He can't see why anyone would ever openly choose that kind of thing. This is even more so when he first meets Kija. It'd be accurate to consider them complete opposites of each other. When he hears of Kija's absolute dedication to the dragon legend, of at long last being able to serve his master, and of being both very wanting and willing to fight for Yona's sake, even if it meant losing his life, Jae-Ha perceives him as a poor and tragic existence, who seems to have no desires of his very own, completely apart from his destiny. Even so, he has been thrown by the way Kija has treated him, as well, such as during the fight against Kum-Ji. While the White Dragon took part in the battle as it was in his fate and dragon's blood to do so, Jae-Ha stated it was simply because he was worried about Yona- and because she is a girl; definitely not due to any preordained legend. Rather than try and school him into agreeing with his own, more specific reasons, Kija just said to him, "So long as you feel the same way I do. . . That, alone, is enough for me to have your back as we fight." It was during the group's time at the hot springs where Jae-Ha's sentiments over him took a turn. Due to certain circumstances, these led Jae-Ha to realize that Kija was, in fact, a powerfully resolute individual. He was living as his fate directed, yes, while shouldering all of his countless predecessors, and always continuing forward with both grace and strength. Jae-Ha had come to acknowledge him. Up until then, he seemed to only project his own, personal beliefs upon the others, and that how they lived was not an acceptable way.

Another part of himself that he brings up at times it that he's the completely honest type. He's open with his actions, playing into taking hold of the liberty to do as he wishes, even it such actions get him in trouble, or put him in danger. He has a sense of self-preservation, of course, but also dives right in. — However all at once, the contrary is also rather true. While he may be upfront, there are plenty of other things Jae-Ha doesn't speak of, or even let on to. Both his past, and personal life, are a good example of this. Save for the time Kija asked him about why he left the village of Ryokuryuu, as well as when he mentioned having first arrived on Gi-Gan's ship, not much else is brought to light. He's often more evasive than one might realize. It plays a bit into his self-esteem, as well. Although he accepts his differences, and enjoys his ability, he's very adamant about keeping his scaled right leg/foot covered, no matter the situation. Being secretive additionally goes for his emotions, as well- however, most specifically when it comes to the King Hiryuu legend and the dragon's blood that flows within him. He came to notice very soon after meeting everyone that the connections between the dragons were far more powerful than he had originally imagined they would be. This is especially the case when it comes to how he sees Yona. As previously mentioned, Jae-Ha originally decided to join her group not because it was in his fate, but because he was mesmerized by her, and particularly with how she persevered through even the most challenging situations. As the series progresses, the sentiments he carries towards her are increasingly noticeable, and predominately to Jae-Ha, himself. At times he will (belatedly) catch himself saying things he normally wouldn't, or act in a different manner that isn't like him, such as an outburst of anger towards her when she does or suggests doing something far too dangerous. More frequently will he internally express frustration towards himself, and that no matter how strongly his heart is drawn to, reacting or whatever he may be feeling, they are not his own emotions at all, but strictly that of the dragon's blood within him. Although at some point he resigns to the fact that he's helpless in simply wanting to be at her side, he persists in that belief.
jadewine: (So this is how I am)

When it comes to his interactions and behavior with the rest, Jae-Ha personally took up the role as a big brother of the group, here and there referring to himself as such- which sometimes takes a part in the banter between and Hak. Not that he necessarily treats the others like children (even if sometimes it really is the opposite). One of the ways he lends his help to everyone else is, of course, by using his ability to jump over very vast distances, which is incredibly useful, as it allows him and the rest to scope out any new area they pass through. This sometimes includes carrying any of the others on his back. Naturally, and on the flip side, he often teases the rest. When Zeno (Ouryuu/Yellow Dragon) enters the picture, and upon learning he is from the original group of the dragons (putting him as by far the oldest member of them all), Jae-Ha falls into a habit of poking fun at him, referring to him as an old man. In Shin-Ah's case, Jae-Ha has made a personal goal, and of utmost importance, that he bears witness to Seiryuu's eyes, as they are said to be most beautiful. Kija, a little similar to Hak, is another target for many of Jae-Ha's jokes, and in terms for Yona, whom he truly gets flustered over his feelings for her, which are incredibly pure. Not to mention at times he comes off as on the annoying side, which Jae-Ha at times will point out. Like the others, however, he is an important member of the group, and is someone Jae-Ha will fight alongside with.

All in all, Jae-Ha is more deeply rooted than one may consider him to be, however that's not to say that what he does most often display to the public is in any way not also a solid part of who he is. He's a flirt, and though sometimes he'll joke around, he's not blind to any sort of serious matters at hand. While considering himself, along with the other dragons, a monstrous existence, he's also ultimately accepting, along with confident in his own strengths, in spite of how he feels about the dragon legend. Strongly independent, the core part to who he is and how he behaves is his sense of freedom, born from his past of being chained up. He can be frequently tenacious and outspoken with his beliefs in those regards, though over the course of the series these feelings have shifted around here and there, to where he keeps more of an open mind when it comes to the others. A good number of facets make up Jae-Ha's personality as a whole, in the end, and while it may not seem as such, or be something he entirely lets on, he's more well rounded than one may believe.

Abilities/Powers: Dragon's Foot - As the Green Dragon, Jae-Ha holds his power within his right foot; (speculated to be) from about the base of his shin and lower, this part of his body is covered in green scales, with his toes ending in short claws. It allows him to jump to such an extent where it appears more so like he's able to fly. He can cover relatively far distances as well as heights, which aide him in scoping out an area from a bird's eye view. He also has absolute control in his actions. With this ability he's been shown to be capable of taking down more than just a couple opponents at once, as well as quickly move from one location to the next. His right foot also carries the strength that's around ten times that of a normal human, which takes his fighting skills to another level. With this strength, too, he's been shown to be able to completely break free from the metal cuffs upon his wrists and ankles which chained him to the floor.

A weakness in terms of his jumping skill are if he lands in the water, and if he's struck down at all, or if he hits a blind spot or caught off-guard. Being overly inebriated, or more so if drugged, can also cause problems.

Additionally, he possesses the ability to sense the presence of the other three dragons, especially so if they're relatively close. It's also been said that he can suppress his own presence, which he did for a while, in order to keep himself from being tracked down by the other dragons.

Other/natural strengths - Jae-Ha is very skilled in using throwing knives, with an especially accurate aim, which includes while he's up in the air. He never goes without having a lot of them concealed on his person. Also he's talented at fighting, with an expected focus on using the lower half of his body.

Items/Weapons: 6 throwing knives, his haegeum, spare set of clothes

Sample Entry: Test drive

Sample Entry Two: Never did Jae-Ha imagine he would find himself, again, in a situation that echoed what he had spent the first twelve years of his life in. Where there were four stone walls and two pairs of heavy manacles attached to the floor, here there was nothing for miles, yet all at once there were walls he now could not see. He didn't quite understand how such a barrier worked, but that didn't matter here nor there, in the end.

Haven was a cage all the same.

Sometimes it would bring back the dreams he originally had every so often, though especially while still new upon Gi-Gan's ship. How the sharp, rusty tang of the chains seemed to infuse what meager food he was given, or the grit and dust of the floor and cracks in the walls that got into his eyes. Sometimes he could swear that he could feel every last blow Garou had delivered to him, as if the bruises along his body were still fresh, and the blood from the wound on his temple was warm and slowly running down the side of his face. Jae-Ha still could hear being told that his existence shouldn't be, as no one out in the real world - or hell, even of his own village - would accept his monstrous presence for even a moment. Day after day the same old thing. Sometimes in words, others by way of physical actions, saturated in Garou's own bitterness and hatred, as he had been treated similarly. They were all the same nightmares that even now, thirteen years after the events, would creep back in.

So maybe it was to be expected that this damn world would only stir up his own sort of deeply rooted irritability. He was perfectly aware by this point in his life that not all shackles were tangible; in fact, there were far more invisible causes. Emotions, religion, laws, society, fate; they all were different types to tie one down, be it to one degree or another. And all that Jae-Ha vehemently rejected. The fact that one could still move around in Haven, and that there were actual places to go, to some degree, along with being fully able to interact with others, was all the more to make things worse. The deception behind it all, and more particularly, that he had nothing in his power to change any of these circumstances, was enough to make his blood boil.

At times Jae-Ha would make for the top of the billboard (that slogan be damned), even while at the same time, now and then, taking in Haven from this vantage point only instilled his original frustration with the state of what this place truly was. He might wonder just how far out the ruins went, or if there was anything at all beyond the horizon (how handy it would be to have Shin-Ah right about now).

He made his rounds, anyway. Leaping from roof to roof, or at times testing both his strength and speed within the tunnels. It did well enough to dispel any current frustrations when his temper was on the edge, though none of it was able to wipe it clean, as he had done when finally breaking away from his home village. Compared to now, that seemed like such an easy feat. It just wasn't going to happen in that kind of way, with what this place was like. More than just ugly and infuriating, Haven was downright repulsive.
