Applications Two

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED!
The next application opening date is Friday 16th January, 7pm EST.
The next application processing date is Friday 23rd January, 7pm EST.

IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE

We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.

We now have a test drive community at [community profile] haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.

While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

To see what we are looking for:
Canon Characters:
Sample Application (Faith Lehane)
Sample Application (Iroh)

Original Characters:
Sample Application (Mors)
Sample Application (Vera de Barr)
Sample Application (Malkus Iverwelling)

Previous Game History:

There are a few things you begin to learn in a world populated by titans. Firstly, that staying still usually means death. Secondly, that the ground is the absolute worst place to be. Not that he can see any overt threats at the moment, but Armin's well aware of how quickly a situation can take a turn for the worst. As soon as he wakes up, he puts his gear on -- after the obligatory confusion and the quick search for his friends, that is. He takes to the rooftops. It doesn't feel much safer when there are so many unknown variables to be accounted for, but it's better than nothing.

He tries not to panic, because it does nothing to help the situation, and over time he's learned to repress some of the blind terror and replace it with a sense of purpose. As long as he has that, he can manage to get through the chaos and death of their expeditions beyond the walls. And for now, Armin lands on the roof of a house to give himself a space to think. The wood is decrepit under his feet, it's rotting and falling apart. He searches for something more stable.

Alright, think. He needs to consolidate whatever information he has about this place, and the situation he's in. The name of this town is probably Haven -- there was a sign when he woke up. It's abandoned and likely hasn't been occupied in a very long time, but it doesn't look like Trost after the Wall Rose was breached. The damage to it looks more like disrepair than ruin.

What else does he know? The last thing he remembers was successfully rescuing Eren from Bertholdt and Reiner. Returning back to safety. Hearing Jean rattle off death statistics. The link between how he woke up here is something else that Armin would like to piece together.

And the last part of knowledge that he has is also an item that he's never seen before. He crouches on the rooftop and holds it in front of him, and curiosity finally gets the best of him when he flips the phone open and watches the screen light up by itself. There are pictures of people under a heading that reads CONTACTS, most of them unfamiliar. But it's the picture of Eren that catches his eye. He takes a deep breath and clicks CALL.

He's not exactly sure what's going to happen, but he figures it's worth a shot.

( I'm so, so sorry for that oversight on my part. Thank you so much for your patience! )

Character Name: Precis F. Neumann
Canon: Star Ocean: Second Evolution
Canon Point: After blacking out and before waking up on Energy Nede
Background/History:
Precis F. Neumann was born to an unknown woman in the town of Linga, a town known for its scholars, library, university, students, and its fair share of geniuses. Precis's father was one of these geniuses, though no one knew it. Except for Precis.

In a town where everyone studies herbs, practices symbology, reads extensive volumes, translates works of long-forgotten languages, Precis and her father were seen as complete weirdos. Instead of studying and inventing traditional items, Precis and her father spent all of their time working on machinery. Her father found a chunk of iron and brought it home one day while Precis was just a child, and it all started from there.

As a result of their different ideas, Precis and her father quickly found themselves being ridiculed by the scholars. Precis then grew up without friends and without any concept of friendship, save for that of her robot Robbie. She didn't grow up playing games with everyone; she preoccupied herself with her inventions in her room, defending her and her father's accomplishments. Growing up, she developed a taste for chocolate crepes. They quickly became her favorite dessert, though her other interests in food turned out to be very bizarre. She also developed a fondness for playing the harmonica, perhaps another sign of just how lonely she really was. A lonely instrument for a teenage girl who was truly all alone in the world.

One day, the fireball mechanic had her chance for a normal life. It wasn't until a human and Nedian came to Linga that Precis really began to see things in a different light. Just like every day, she was out taking Robbie for a walk when it managed to get away from her. In a furious struggle, she made a fool out of herself and fell. Claude C. Kenny, who was from earth, immediately approached Precis and started asking about her Robbie. Precis, a bit flustered from everything, blushed and chased after her precious robot, thinking that it was just a random meeting.

A few days later, Precis ran into Claude again. The human boy was interested only in Robbie, it seemed, but Precis had a hunch. First, being the lonely girl she was, she immediately hoped that Claude was trying to pick her up. That turned out to not be the case; Claude hadn't seen anything like Robbie since arriving on Expel. The human kept insisting that it was an remote-controlled car, which only annoyed Precis; she wasn't used to people admiring her inventions, and she really thought it was just Robbie. She didn't know what a remote-control car was. Even then, she insisted that remote-controlled car was a terrible name for her Robbie. Afterwards, she immediately wondered if Robbie was a good name for her robot as well. Hearing her question her naming abilities, Claude quickly jumped back in and said that it was a nice name, flattering the young mechanic.

This sparked an interest in Precis. There was someone admiring her abilities as a mechanic, and she wasn't going to let it get away so easily. She simply asked Claude if he liked things like Robbie, and assumed that they would get along great because they have a lot in common. Claude was, after all, the first person to treat her like a normal girl. She invited Claude to get something to drink at her house so she could show him the rest of her stuff, adding in that it wasn't a date. And, after exchanging names, they were off...

Claude, however, wasn't exactly bad-looking. Precis was taken almost immediately, and on their way to Precis's house, she made sure that their ages (Precis was 16, and Claude was 19) were compatible. Standing outside of their house, Precis, who wanted to make sure Claude was hers, asked about Rena, the blue-haired girl who had bumped into Precis a few days prior. Precis just wanted to make a friend. Much to her pleasure, Claude quickly denied this. With a skip and a hop in her step, Precis eagerly led Claude into her living room.

Much to her dismay, however, Rena was sitting in and having tea with Graft, Precis's father. He had been asking Rena to be Precis's friend since they were about the same age. Completely suspicious of her father, since they lived alone, Precis and Graft entered an argument about bringing strange men/women into the house. After everything calmed down, Rena and Claude sat down for tea while Precis showed off her Robbie to Rena. Graft immediately told Precis about how great her Robbie was, only to have Precis counter with a snarky comment about artists only being recognized after they were dead. Claude inquired farther, only for Graft to say their machinery was the result of inspiration. After an awkward laughter shared with Graft over Claude's clothes, Rena and Claude excused themselves.

Precis followed. She wasn't going to be left all alone again, and this was her first real chance at having friends. After telling the story about when her dad found the iron and her life changed, Precis tried to force her way into the group, but Rena, being the jealous teenager she was, fought to keep Precis out of the party, saying they were too busy to hang out with her and that they were investigating the ever-too-dangerous Sorcery Globe. Precis wouldn't, or couldn't, let them leave. They were the first people to make her feel like a normal girl, and she couldn't bear to see them go...even if it meant telling them just how lonely she was. She told them. Ultimately, Claude said yes, causing Precis to freak out over what to bring. It was her first time going on an adventure, she had told Claude.

After packing everything, including all of her mechanic tools, her Robbie, and everything else she needed, she ran and met Claude, Rena, and the spellcaster Celine at the entrance of Linga. Celine Jules immediately questioned whether or not Rena was going to regret having Precis along, but Claude assured her that it was going to be okay. With a quick spin, Precis introduced herself and the party set off for Lacour.

At this point, Precis's inclusion in the game is entirely up to the player; she can be passed up for another character, Bowman Jean, or they can both be skipped over. As such, the rest of her background is as described here and her Wiki page is here

rocketpunch: (Easy as calculus!)

[personal profile] rocketpunch 2014-03-06 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:
Precis is mostly an upbeat, go-get-’em type of girl. She says what she’s thinking, loves to play, and knows what she wants. It’s very difficult, though not impossible, to bring her down. She’s constantly finding new ways to entertain herself, and at times, she won’t take no for an answer. Her carefree and sometimes bubbly attitude makes her seem like she’s not taking things seriously, and sometimes? She isn’t. Yet, she’s very confident in what she can do.

Above all, though, Precis loves machines. The people in her town treat her absolutely terribly for this; in one scene, when her father goes missing, they openly tell the player character (Rena) that they hope he’s died. It’s hard not to imagine Precis has heard these words thousands of time herself. For reasons she’s unable to control, she just grew up in a completely toxic environment. The town, Linga, is just so dedicated to other “real" areas of study that they brushed her family off as insane. Still, she perseveres! If someone brings up symbology, she’ll instantly declare her machines are better (often to Celine’s annoyance), and she has so much faith in what she can do with her hands. By learning through experience, she has a wiser side, something that Ernest Raviede, someone from an advanced planet (Precis is from an underdeveloped planet), sees.

Deep inside, though, despite how she acts, Precis is still a teenage girl. She wants to have a boyfriend, and she’s incredibly lonely. When she meets Rena and Claude for the first time, she wants to do anything to travel with them, all because they treat her like a normal girl. After years of being ignored by the scholars in her town, Precis very much feels like an outcast, someone who’s not appreciated…and the loneliness gets to her at times. Yet, there she is, always putting on a smile, trying her hardest. She wants to be recognized, and she wants to have friends…and she isn’t afraid of flirting or gossiping to find anything out. She’ll do anything for them.

There’s also always this awkward side to Precis as well. She is, at times, overly childish and insists on doing things her way, such as when she forced a game of hide-and-seek and Claude despite their journey. She can be horribly blunt at times, since she doesn’t have a brain-to-mouth filter, but usually what she’s saying isn’t mean-spirited; it’s just something that needed to be said. She can also openly be disrespectful at times (mostly to Leon) and can be overly competitive, but these traits aren’t overwhelming to the point where she isn’t fun to be around or treated differently.

Once outside of her town, Precis shows she’s capable of making fast friends. She can still be annoying and childish, but she forms fast bonds with both Welch and Ashton. She even forms a rivalry with fellow child genius Leon, and her cheerfulness lets her bond with Chisato. As the game comes to an end, she shows extreme bravery, choosing to go to an abandoned continent and facing beings far more powerful than she is. Again, she never backs down…because, in the end? Once she has friends, she’ll never let them down…though she might try an invention on them from time to time!
Abilities/Powers: Precis has no innate abilities like magic or whatnot, but she's an Expellian and not a human! She ages more slowly than a human. Other than that, she's just a mechanical genius known for the invention of robotics on her home planet, Expel. She's also has the knowledge to build holograms, lasers, transforming technology, bombs, computer software, cameras, recorders, music synthesis programs, etc.
Items/Weapons: Precis will arrive with her robot Robbie, her robotic arm backpack/controller, and a wrench! Basically, Precis’s weapon in canon is a backpack that she wears with a robotic arm, hammer, and controller attached. It sounds complicated, but really, it’s just because she’s puny and frail. If that counts as more than one item, let me know! Also, Robbie can transform into a variety of other shapes, but I’m going to assume those forms (especially his giant form and his drilling machine form) will just be missing the parts needed to function. If he can still transform into a laser gun, lemme know? Her weapons are REALLY canonically strange, so. Yeah.

Sample Entry: Post from when she was at Luceti
Sample Entry Two:
To an outsider, her room probably worked like a complete mess.

To Precis, it was an amazing work of art.

All of the machine parts and tools she’d gathered since she arrived in Luceti were strewn about the room in a chaotic order that made sense only to Precis; her logic was unique. The smell of oil and grease and...burnt rubber were evident to the person who had just knocked on her door. Precis didn’t hear it, though. She had ripped out of the beds of her spare bedroom and converted it into a workshop, and she was now working beneath a refrigerator, trying to figure out how it ticked. It was just another normal day for her.

“Man,” she admitted to herself, wiping sweat off of her forehead with her forearm (and spreading some oil she had picked up earlier onto it in the process). “These things are pretty cool. They’re a bit different than my old man’s, but...hey, Robbie, hand me that wrench, okay?” Her robot didn’t answer, as always, but she used her remote control to command him to do as ordered...or so she thought. Once he moved closer, the robot swiftly decked her in the face with the wrench.

“H-hey! That’s not what I told you to---ugh!” Precis bolted upright with a start and reached for her miniature robot companion. This wasn’t how he was supposed to work! She thought she had gotten all the bugs out of his system, but apparently that wasn’t the case, and she just couldn’t do anything while he was misbehaving like that. She quickly moved after the fleeing robot, when a knock sounded on the door again. She was only distracted for a second, but that was enough of a distraction to lose Robbie in her apartment.

“J-just one second!”

Scrambling to her feet once more, Precis raced to open the door for her surprise visitor. When she did, she barely even registered his face or what he was there for, since she had other things to do. She also had forgotten that her face was covered in sweat, oil, and now blood thanks to her little incident with Robbie.

“It’ll be just one second! Sorry, but wait here, okay?”

With that, she shut the door in her guest’s face, not even thinking about what he was going to think about the display.

“Robbie, come out, come out, wherever you are...! It’ll just take a few quick fixes.”

Character Name: Richard "Dick" Grayson
Canon: Young Justice
Canon Point: End of season 1.
Background/History: http://youngjustice.wikia.com/wiki/Nightwing
Previous Game History: n/a
Personality: In season one, Dick is a thirteen-year-old kid—who also happens to be a superhero. He approaches this in two different ways: he is, on the one hand, conscious of the whole life-saving and better-world-making aspect of the deal; his family were the victims of violent crime and he’d rather not see anyone else suffer through that—or if they did, he’d like to get those responsible some nice, restrictive silver bracelets and a charming jail cell.

On the other hand—Robin is a thirteen year old kid. He is capable of realizing that he can hack the Justice League’s computer, beat up all kinds of bad guys, and crack jokes while doing it, and it’s actually pretty cool all on its own. The how and why of becoming Robin still causes him pain, but Robin itself is something to be proud of and enjoy.
staystraught: (ready already?)

[personal profile] staystraught 2014-03-07 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
And he is proud of it. Robin has a fairly clear idea of exactly how skilled he is, which translated to great confidence—even a smug sort of arrogance at times. He had a tendency to either assume everyone else was on the same page, or else assume that they’d catch up if they’re not. He’s not very good at explaining himself yet, but he is good at setting and achieving goals, and recognizing which goals he is or is not equal to. He knows he can usually plot a course of action to achieve a mission objective, but he was also able to (after some trial and error—mostly error) recognize that a) the team couldn’t read his mind and b) he lacked the leadership experience it would take to get everyone up to speed, delegate jobs, and generally be responsible for that many people.

While he was able to step up to the challenge when thrown into a ‘kill-‘em-all’ mental simulation, remaining calm, cool, and casually manipulating his friends to help them remain calm and fulfill the necessary objectives (a methodology and skill set his mentor, Batman, is especially famous for), he was very frank in the subsequent therapy session—he hated it. He hated being in charge, he hated making the tough decisions that—while effective—killed his friends one by one, and it made him completely rethink his life’s goals. He can be taught!

Robin’s sense of humor is usually at the forefront of what he’s doing. He is capable of buckling down and getting serious when the situation calls for it, but if it doesn’t? He has no compunctions against making fun of his friends or enemies. He counterpoints most of Wally’s attempts to look cool with sly commentary and outright (and rather conspicuously) points and laughs hysterically when Superboy gets thrown around by their combat trainer. After snarking on his best friend’s earlier beatdown. And excessively enough that Aqualad felt it prudent that he stop.

If you do something amusing, he will tell you. After cracking up, and not without an injection of sarcasm.

Despite that, his affection for his friends is sincere, and he seems to make friends with other superkids fairly easily. He was welcoming to Superboy and Miss Martian, and while his reaction to Artemis was decidedly lowkey, he later defends her very nonchalantly. He clearly isn’t as close to them as Kid Flash or Aqualad, whom he’s known for years, but he’s capable of working with them, accepts them, and tries to include them. He does like people and he likes to talk, he just tends to have an ‘I’m good and I know it’ vibe in there.

He is also rather thoughtful and observant. While he initially attributed an arrow shot during a fight scene to Green Arrow, and later Speedy when Green Arrow denied it, when a new, teenage female archer is introduced to the team shortly after, he correctly surmises that it was actually ''she'' who shot the arrow. When Green Arrow introduces her as his niece, Artemis, Robin's immediate reaction is a smirking "Another niece, huh?" It's implied in later episodes that he uses the fact that she shot an arrow in Gotham City and combined it with the fact that it was ''highly unlikely'' that Green Arrow would be able to quickly produce a crimefighting niece so soon after Martian Manhunter did in order to figure out Artemis's real name -- and with it, the fact that she's related to three supervillains.

Dick questions things. When Parasite leeches away Superboy's powers and manages to use a power Superboy did ''not'' inherit from Superman, Robin is the one who notices it and calls him on it. While the mission at hand means he accepts Superboy's lie about genetic potential being enough, he's also the first one to notice in the following episode when SB also manifests flight, despite the fight and snowy wind messing up visibility.

He’s a quick-witted, intelligent kid, who likes dissecting words and is apparently good enough at math to be honored at his school. To say nothing of his technological expertise, and the creator mentioned on his website that he has a passing familiarity with several different languages. Give him a reason to learn it, and he will sit down and do it.

At his core, though, he is a hero. He spends his free time either dodging bullets to make the world a better place, or training to make himself better at dodging bullets to make the world a better place. As mentioned, he has himself been touched very close by violent crime, and did not stop his pursuit for justice when the man responsible was caught. He’s been working as Robin for four years, longer than any other sidekick junior hero.

Dick's had a strange upbringing-- he spent the first nine years of his life as a trapeze artist alongside his family, and the latter four as a superhero. As a result, he's very driven. He's very capable, confident, and serious. He's been taught by Batman to speak his mind, and Batman does listen to his opinions. And thanks to positive reinforcement, Dick's also learned from Batman that sometimes, he can get great results by doing the wrong thing, or something he was told not to do. And as long as he can get those results, everything will be fine.

Whether or not Dick has much of a life outside superheroing has yet to be fully divulged. We do know that he has a habit of getting his personal life mixed up in his work. He'd prefer to date teammates and his best friend is also a teammate.

Abilities/Powers: He’s a skilled acrobat and aerialist, trained from early childhood to be part of his family’s circus trapeze act. He’s very flexible and capable of creatively using his surroundings.

Years of crimefighting have also given him mastery in many fields, including investigation, detective skills, and deductive reasoning. These were all taught by Batman, the World’s Greatest Detective, so the instruction was top-notch and the student is naturally intelligent enough to make good use of it. Nightwing is able to calmly assess crime scenes and notice the little details.

Other skills learned from Batman include stealth; Dick frequently confuses his superpowered teammates by simply vanishing without them ever noticing. Along with Superboy, who is invulnerable, he’s one of the few team members to not use a stealth-specific color palette on missions.

He’s also a skilled martial artist, with instruction from Batman and Black Canary, another well-respected and skilled superhero. He’s agile and quick to dodge, since he can’t take hits from people with super strength so easily, but still capable against opponents while still remaining nonlethal. He’s also demonstrated familiarity and skill in fighting with Escrima sticks.

Robin is good with computers, technology, and machinery. He was able to hack the Justice League’s computers based on their similarity to the systems used by Batman, and Batman owns a technology company in his civilian identity.

Items/Weapons: Glove computer, wiped clean of all text; pair of escrima sticks (although I'm open to limiting it to just one, for the sake of a laugh); grappling hook pistol

[personal profile] savesthedance 2014-03-09 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality: "There are men laying down their lives. I've got no right to do any less than them."

Even as a child, Steve Rogers knew what he wanted to be: a soldier. His father served in the 107th infantry and died a hero. Steve grew up listening to his mom tell stories of his father's bravery, so when he learned of the attack on Pearl Harbor and the imminent war, he wanted more than anything to be a part of it. He didn't care that he wasn't the ideal soldier. He wanted to serve his country, and not from home. He wanted to be out on the battle field.

"I don't wanna kill anyone. I don't like bullies, I don't care where they're from."

Steve grew up a small, weak, and sickly child. He was bullied and pushed around for his size, but he never let that stop him. Even from a young age, he stood up for himself and fought back. He does this multiple times in the First Avenger, even before he gets the serum. A man was being rude during a war promotion before a movie, and Steve told him to show some respect. The man didn't listen, so he told him to shut up. Even when the man finally turned to challenge him, he didn't back down. This led to a back alley fight, which Steve never tried to run from. It wasn't until Bucky showed up and ran the guy off did the fight end. If Bucky hadn't have come, he would have kept the fight up until the guy got bored.

"If you start running, they'll never let you stop. You stand up and push back, can't say no forever."

In his conversation with Peggy, Steve tells her of several places he was beat up just on the drive. His stubbornness isn't a new thing. Fighting the back alley bullies near his orphanage is how he met Bucky as a child. This stubbornness doesn't apply to just fights, either. When it came to getting in the army, Steve refused to take no for an answer. He set his mind on his goal and wouldn't give up. He knew his physical limitations, so he trained with Bucky to prepare. And when they turned him down? He went back. He tried five times, even breaking the law and lying about where he was from, just to take that chance to get in. When Doctor Erskine finally gave Steve the chance, he never quit. He was training with men twice his size, not to mention men that made his life as hard as possible, but he kept on.

"This is why you were chosen. Because a strong man, who has known power all his life will lose respect for that power. But a weak man knows value of strength. And knows compassion."

Obviously, it wasn't Steve's physique that got him a part in the Brooklyn project. What sets him apart from other people is his heart. He's stubborn, yes, but he puts other people before himself. He doesn't like bullies, because he doesn't like seeing other people treated badly. He knows what it's like to be looked down upon and the pain that comes with loss. He's not prejudiced about race, gender, or even nationality. He judges people by their actions and nothing else. He doesn't see himself as being better than people, either. As he puts it's, he's "just a kid from Brooklyn."

This is seen multiple times throughout the two movies Steve is in. When he meets Erskine, he immediately notices his accent, but he doesn't care that he's from Germany. When he meets Peggy, rather than focus on the fact that she's a woman, he's impressed by how she stands up to the bully of the unit. Even when he meets Bruce Banner, someone he knows to turn into a monster, he doesn't judge. While he is cautious, he treats Bruce like a human. When he runs into Tony Stark, however, his perception of the man is that his priority is himself and nothing else, leading Steve to have issues with the man. Steve humbleness was shown when he didn't go to his award ceremony after saving the four hundred men from HYDRA. Rather than stand in front of hundreds of people and cameras, he decided not to go, using his time to help the SSR track down the rest of the HYDRA bases. He didn't want the limelight, he just wanted to help people.

Steve has a very strong moral compass. While he would be the first to follow all the rules to a T, he'd also be the first to break them when he feels like the rules are wrong. An example of this would be when he goes across enemy lines to save not only his best friend, but the rest of the prisoners of war. Colonel Philips made it clear that there would be no attempts to rescue the men, even when they knew exactly where they were being held. Steve tried to argue this, but was shot down, so he decided to take things into his own hands. With the help of Peggy and Howard, he flew into Austria and single handedly rescued almost four hundred men. The first thing he did when he returned? He offered himself up for disciplinary action. He knew what he did was against the rules, but he knew it was the right thing to do, and that's why he did it. He does this again when he and the other Avengers take the ship to New York to stop Loki. None of them had the clearance or orders to take it, but getting to New York was the priority, so Steve took the ship.

"Maybe I'll just knock. They'll think I've come for a cup of sugar."

Believe it or not, Steve is actually pretty quick witted. He's definitely one to throw in a joke or a snark when the moment is right. While he's one to sass, he knows the right time and place. He's socially adept enough to know the right time to be polite, part of which can be explained by his military background, but he's also skilled enough to be able to throw in a line smoothly that it's almost not even noticed, or taken as him actually being polite.

Steve is a natural leader. Maybe it's because he spent so many years being the underdog that he just gets people, but he is really conscious about the people he works with. He stands, not with an air of authority, but with an air of respect. Not only does he respect the people he works closely with, but he's gained their respect, allowing them to work seamlessly together. That is to say, with the Howling Commandos. The Avengers are another story. Steve only knows a few of them, and not well. It takes time, but he comes to understand each of their strengths and once he does, he's able to work with them with no trouble.

As much as leading comes naturally to Steve, the respect he earned was based on the fact that he's smart. He was smart before the serum, having spent a lot of time reading and educating himself, but the serum amplified that. He is able to analyze a situation and tactically pursue it without difficulty. His time leading the Howling Commandos definitely perfects this, so by Avengers, Steve is able to devise a plan in a matter of minutes.

"Women aren't exactly lining up to dance with the guy they might step on."

Though his people skills are good, Steve isn't exactly the best when it comes to women. It's not entirely his fault, either. He expressed that before the serum, women didn't want much to do with him because of his size. And when Bucky tried to orchestrate double dates, he was always ignored by the girls. At first, it bothered him, but then he had other things on his mind so he didn't worry about it. But that lack of worry meant he didn't try to understand them. He spent all his time around guys, and being that his best friend was Bucky - a bit of a ladies man - what he knew was how to talk about women, but not how to talk to them.

"I guess I don't know why you'd want to join the army. A beautiful dame like you-- I mean, a woman. An agent. Not a dame. I mean, you are beautiful-- "

Peggy was his first real experience with a woman. While other men just saw a woman, Steve saw her as a fighter. She understood what he went through, having, as she put it, every door shut in her face. She was one of the first to see the real him, not the small man, but the big heart. Their relationship is complicated, mostly due to the fact that the two are clearly attracted to each other, but a war prevented them from being anything more. Steve admires her greatly from the moment they met. He's more easily distracted by her presence, takes time to make sure she's safe, and even as he's crashing to what he thinks will be his death, he talks about seeing her again. When he wakes up in the 21st century, in all is confusion in distress, the second thing out of his mouth was "I had a date." In Avengers, even a year later, Steve continued to look over her old case file and contemplate calling her.

After Steve wakes up in the 21st century, he's a lot more cold and withdrawn than he was before. This draws largely from the fact that almost everyone he cared about is now dead. The world has completely changed around him. While he goes through the motions and tries to adjust, he's still stuck in the past. Everything from his clothes to his apartment are all vintage. His down time is spent combing over old case files of his friends or training and getting lost in his memories of the past. It isn't until the end of the movie that it's evident that Steve's finally accepted his place. He rides off in his motorcycle in a symbolic "rides into the sunset" kind of way, showing he's putting the past behind him and ready to move on. Even so, he's still a man out of time. Modern day references go over his head, electronics are lost on him, but even then, he's quick enough to learn and do what he needs to do.

Abilities/Powers: Steve was given a super soldier serum known to improve everything about a person. This means everything from his intellect to his physical abilities are heightened.

Most notably increased is his strength. He is able to bend metal, lift heavy object, throw strong punches, and so on. Rather than using something like a gun, he relies heavily on his combat skills. He's fast and agile, able to jump and climb with ease, as well as dodge and return attacks quickly. He's intelligent and able to plan strategically in the middle of stressful situations, as well as adapt and work with things he may not be familiar with. His senses are more heightened, allowing him to hone in on enemies quicker. He's more durable and is harder to injure. When he is injured, he's able to keep going for longer and heals faster than a normal person. His metabolism is higher than most people's, being stated as four times faster, meaning he has higher energy levels, but he also needs more food to keep him going and can't get drunk.

With his shield, he's able to throw it with great strength and speed to knock out enemies. He's very accurate with his throws, as he is with gun when he does use them. This shield is definitely not just a defensive item and is used to bash and knock aside enemies as he fights in close combat.

Items/Weapons: His shield: Steve has a shield made from vibranium and is the strongest metal on earth. It can withstand anything, from bullets to even Thor's hammer. It's completely vibration absorbent and light weight, but when hit by a hard blast, it takes strength to stay standing.

Dog-tags: Steve will have his WWII era dog-tags, but without any writing left on them.

File on Peggy Carter: The file of papers on Peggy Carter will all be completely blank, except for the picture of the young woman.

Sample Entry: Haven Test-Drive
Sample Entry Two:
Unfortunately, this wasn't the first time Steve woke up and found himself in a strange new world. He remembered all too well the panic he had felt, waking up and finding himself in the 21st century. It was only a matter of months ago, after all. If it wasn't for that, finding himself in Haven would have been all too shocking.

He knew the details, about where he was and that everyone here was trapped, but Steve wouldn't accept that. There had to be a way out of here. And if no one else could find it, maybe he could. It was a large burden to accept, but Steve wouldn't have any other way. He wanted to help everyone here. They had friends and family to return to. Sure, he had people he liked and cared about now, but his own happiness wasn't his priority. If he could get everyone else out and have to stay behind, he'd do just that in a heartbeat.

He was glad to have Thor there, though. While he wished his new friend wasn't trapped, he was grateful to have a familiar face and ally to work with. Together, maybe, just maybe, they could rescue the people here. And until they figured something out, protecting them from the daily dangers they faced would be his mission.

2/3 Akane Owari | Super Dangan Ronpa 2 | Reserved | SPOILERS ARE IN THIS APPLICATION.

[personal profile] overeats 2014-03-10 08:52 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:
Three ways to describe Akane Owari: energetic, brash, and short on attention unless it's food or fighting.

Act first, think later maybe. Several times it's shown that Owari has a brash nature, and a violent streak. Her problem solving techniques amount to believing that her hitting things will make them better. (Or strangling them until their neck breaks, in the case of dealing with a fellow classmate that had claimed to have placed bombs around the island / had been a huge crazy doucebag.) She is a very confident girl, to the point of idoicy in some cases-- such as constantly challenging Nidai despite the fact that their spars ended with her bloodied on several occasions, and challenging the omnipotent Monobear (which nearly got a friend killed when they stepped in to save Owari's dumb ass).

Rather than just having berserk buttons, Owari is a natural berserker ready to attack at just about any moment. Owari is not necessarily an angry person overall, but she has a fearsome temper when she's pissed. It does take at least some effort to piss her off, but then she goes into power mode (or psycho villain mode?) which is... well, she can still be talked down from that, so it's not as bad as it could be. Point is, she's not someone willing to put up with complete bullshit / people screwing with her / her friends' lives. Despite this, Owari does have her own weaknesses as well. One thing she doesn't seem capable of punching out is her fear of ghosts, which she discloses to Hinata during an FTE (although she admittedly then threatens to punch him if he ever tells anyone about it). It's a surprising admission from her, and was a huge sign of trust, since Owari never seemed to like showing weaknesses if possible.

A fighter by nature, an over-confident girl, Owari is incredibly competitive and possesses a drive to improve herself. She enjoys a good challenge, and is very boastful about beating any she comes across. While she does throw herself at such things without thinking, she does make an effort to improve herself. Moreover, Owari hates to show weakness or be weak at all. When blaming herself for Nidai being injured, she blames herself because she was "weak" and says that if she weren't maybe it wouldn't have happened. However, while she hates weakness in herself / accepting the help of others, Owari is willing to stand up for / help others with no qualms (such as chastising Hinata for making Tsumiki cry in one of the trials, or when she says she'll take over Nidai's share of the work after his death). Despite possessing a drive to improve herself, Owari hates hard work, and frequently skipped out on her gymnastics training during her school days, apparently. It was only with Nidai's influence that she began to overcome this, and she seemed to almost leave that part of herself behind to an extent after his death, continuing her training to become stronger even without his nagging.

Owari is never the smartest among her classmates, and clearly aware of it, leaving the metaphorical heavy lifting to her peers for the most part. And while most of her contributions in trials weren't super intelligent, Owari has fantastic instincts. For what she lacks in smarts, she makes up for in a tendency to find herself at answers without really trying. Unfortunately, she sometimes doubt these instincts due to a low belief in her brainpower (which may explain why she doesn't even bother to apply herself to academic pursuits, though that is likely laziness). Her title apparently came from her ability to practice gymnastics by creating innovative new moves, since Owari - hating hard work - always simply showed up at meets and made up routines on the spot. This, too, shows her general inclination to go with whatever comes to mind. While this does get better through influence from her classmates, her instincts and intuition really are fairly reliable, and notably her classmates do start taking them into account later as time goes on. Kuzuryuu in particular seems to rethink his estimation of the fifth case when Owari seems uncertain about it.

One of the more optimistic members of her class, or at least one of the ones more able to put each death behind her and continue on "doing her best". In general, Owari has a bit of an emotional whiplash on occasion. This is likely caused by the fact that emotionally, she is not deep. Or at least she doesn't act like it. Her emotions tend to range from "can I punch it", "I'M GONNA PUNCH IT", and "well whatever" on a general basis. She herself doesn't seem aware that she can really feel things, as she is confused by her upset when classmate Nidai is hurt saving her life and later murdered. She doesn't seem to even understand her own emotions when they're shoved in her face by another classmate. It's possible that this lack in emotional depth is caused by Owari's rather... crappy childhood, which included a roulette wheel of parents, poverty (she states that the crappy rooms at an inn-like house were a "palace" compared to her home, as well as her clear enjoyment of food out of fear of not having any), taking up gymnastics to avoid having to be a waitress or worse as she mentions taking off her underwear for old men, and taking care of a multitude of younger siblings that had no stable parenting. When first arriving on the island she doesn't really bother to learn peoples' names for a while, saying she's "bad with names", and this is probably because of her messy childhood-- she doesn't really expect to be around these classmates of hers long enough to care, likely because she was desensitized to death.

"Flirt" is the wrong word, but Owari can be rather... inappropriate at times, to say the least. Due to her childhood, it appears no one actually showed her to how to behave properly. She doesn't seem to have the greatest grasp on societal norms for appropriateness, including; claiming a school swimsuit is "embarrassing" but then proceeds to start stripping off her clothes, makes several mentions of boys' "tails" as a euphemism for penises, offers to tell Hinata touch / use her breasts as pillows, etc. She's not really coming on to anyone, or even propositioning them so much as... actually believes "you can touch my boobs" is a reasonable response to when she's pleased with a guy / something that they would want. Which, again, says some pretty awful shit about her home life.

Despite Owari's willfulness and ability to push past her own problems (and everyone else's), she was at one point capable of falling into Despair. It's not hard to figure out the most likely reason she was drawn into the despair-- a crappy home-life combined with her Super High School Level talent only being from something she had zero passion for. While it's unknown what she specifically did or was like under despair, context paints a disturbing picture (as it does with all of those who were under despair). Learning about this part of her past was not a fun time, but like the other survivors of Monokuma's second killing game, she is able to accept what the future could bring and work toward a better one. (And is also prepared to beat the shit out of classmate Hinata if he seems stupid/despair-y, so.)
