Applications Two

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED!
The next application opening date is Friday 16th January, 7pm EST.
The next application processing date is Friday 23rd January, 7pm EST.

IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE

We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.

We now have a test drive community at [community profile] haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.

While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

To see what we are looking for:
Canon Characters:
Sample Application (Faith Lehane)
Sample Application (Iroh)

Original Characters:
Sample Application (Mors)
Sample Application (Vera de Barr)
Sample Application (Malkus Iverwelling)

[personal profile] larker 2014-06-14 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality: Gabriel is an archangel and one of the first group of beings created by God. One would think that as an archangel he'd be responsible, caring and just. Nothing could be further from the truth with this guy. See, things in Heaven didn't quite go exactly to plan. The youngest of four brothers, he got to watch the two eldest dissolve into an argument. One brother- Lucifer - decided he hated God's newest creation; humanity. The whole thing became chaotic, Michael and Lucifer at each others throats, Lucifer being cast out of Heaven, it was all a bit much for the Messenger of God. Gabriel got so fed up with the in-fighting between his family, that he opted to leave Heaven and hide on Earth as a completely different being, known as the trickster. Gabriel actually managed to remain in that disguise until a few months before his death.

It's always easy to follow Gabriel's motif as the trickster. He's always happy to target people who are up themselves, or outright assholes, taking them down a peg (often fatally) in the most ironic of ways, such as killing an abusive husband with the incredible Hulk. Gabriel takes great pleasure in doing this, having evolved a wicked sense of humor during his millennia on earth. It makes the archangel quite the hypocrite, considering that he left Heaven over Lucifer's distaste for humanity, and there he is killing some of them off. Gabriel's very aware of how people work and will always exploit this when he's having his fun, happy to pull strings in the majority of cases. Even with Sam and Dean, every time he used his powers to bother them, it was always there just to prove a point.

"Helloooo? Trickster! Come on, I heard you two yahoos were in town, how could I resist?"

Gabriel does enjoy the "finer" things in life, always conjuring up things for himself to make life easier, be it women or a dog. He likes his sarcasm and tends to just enjoy his role as a trickster. He plays it up so well that other Gods know him as Loki and he's not going to prove them wrong. As far as Gabriel cares he's no longer an archangel and does not want anyone knowing it. As a person, Gabriel just comes across as a witty douchebag. As a trickster, he's still a witty douchebag, just with a killer sense of humor. He's normally found eating candy or chocolate, since that is a motif of a trickster, and likes to lead people up the merry path and around in circles until he gets bored of it. Gabriel also has the ability to plan ahead, and when executing some plans shows a lot of patience. In one episode he was able to kill Dean, resurrect the guy and then rewind time by one day so that Sam was caught in a groundhog day scenario where his brother died in different ways. It took over a hundred days apparently, showing Gabriel's dedication to that cause. He's also managed to fake his death successfully a total of three times. This archangel is not against pulling the wool over someone's eyes for his (or their) own good.

"My own, private, witness protection. I skipped outta Heaven, had a face transplant, carved out my own little corner of the world. 'Til you two screwed it all up. "

Underneath the trickster facade is a few other character traits that are a bit more serious than someone with powers just arsing around. Once it was revealed that the trickster was actually the archangel Gabriel, it started coming to light on how his mind worked. Gabriel loves his archangel family to a fault, unable to take a side when it comes to Lucifer and Michael and skipping out of town so he didn't have to deal with it. He's actually sided with the people, stating that outright to Lucifer that even though people seemed like scum and made mistakes, they had the ability to learn from them and forgive. He also realizes, after Dean points it out, that it was nothing to do with just feeling destiny was unavoidable. It was due to the fact that Gabriel wasn't able to stand up to his family and tell them they were wrong, and once Gabriel realizes that, he interferes to hold up Lucifer and let the Winchesters escape, letting them know how to retrap Lucifer before getting killed for his troubles.

Even though Gabriel can be serious when he needs to be, which is only really when his trickster gig is up, he prefers to fall back into that mode, calling people names and rolling his eyes at most opportunities. His entire attitude is very human thanks to the amount of time he's spent with them. A lot of other angels are standoffish, confused by the most mundane of things, or appear stern. Gabriel is the complete opposite of that, more than happy to make jokes and cultural references. This in turn helps Gabriel when it comes to teaching people their lessons, able to make them the most ironic of things due to knowing what makes humans tick.

Abilities/Powers:
Archangels have a lot of powers that I am more than happy to tone down if need be.

Reality manipulation: With his own will of mind, Gabriel is able to alter how things look and feel, able to fool anyone into thinking they are in a certain place or they are doing certain things. Gabriel is also able to use this skill to kill others, such as people being killed by alligators in the sewers, an abusive husband being killed by the incredible Hulk, or keeping Dean and Sam contained in television channels. This also involves items and anything dealing with perception. It's strength is more than that of a standard trickster, which in the end gives him away, but it's definitely Gabriel's trademark. He's even better at it than his brothers are, able to create entire pocket dimensions on a whim if he so desires.

Strength: Both spiritual and physical strength is high up on Gabriel's list. He is able to toss Castiel - an angel- around with the flick of a hand, whilst on the other side of the coin can lift Dean up with one hand and very little effort. Since Gabriel is an archangel of the Lord, that means he is even stronger than the standard angels, and above even the seraphim. He is on par with the other Archangels, and was even able to throw Lucifer with a wave of a hand through some doors too.

Teleportation: All angels can move faster than the human eye can see when moving from place to place, given away only by the echoing sound of wings in the absence they leave.

Chronokinesis: Gabriel is able to "flick forward" and find out what happens to himself. He was also able to trap the Winchester brothers in a time loop spanning one single day for around six months.

Telekinesis: The ability to move things around with his mind. This includes large objects and people. Gabriel is also able to exert pressure and cause damage. He particularly enjoys throwing his siblings around with this one.

Immortality: There are very few things that can kill an angel, and even fewer that can kill an archangel. Gabriel can only truly be killed with an angel blade.

There are a few other skills that are bog standard archangel. These include being able to sense if someone is a species other than human, and the smiting and exorcising of demons with a touch to the forehead. Possession is also a big angel thing, considering they cannot have their true forms walking around. It's not really something that will ever crop up with Gabriel though, since he's very much attached to his current vessel. Should the need ever arise, he would need permission first from the body he would be inhabiting.

Items/Weapons:
- Clothing
- Archangel Blade
- A few assorted chocolate bars that just happened to be in Gabriel's pockets at the time of his death.

Sample Entry:
[When the video feed comes on it shows an average looking guy. Nothing out of the ordinary, just another random person that's suddenly appeared. Gabriel sure looks irked, but he's going to settle for a bout of sarcasm. Shouting is for idiots.]

Just couldn't let me go, could you? I saved your sorry asses and wind up here. Yeah, thanks for that. I really wanted to wake up in some cheese-induced nightmare.

[There's a shrug at that, Gabriel swiftly moving on to other things. He's not one to loiter too much on the depressing side of things.]

Okay seriously, someone throw a guy a bone here. And I'm not talking literally before some knucklehead gets that idea. Would not put it past this place. Or you can just not. I mean it isn't like I won't find out anyway, so no skin off my back. [Actually gives a look at that one. Don't even try it. This whole thing stinks of a giant clusterfuck. He won't be surprised if the Winchesters pop up out of nowhere. They are always breaking shit.]

So. Who's going to crack and start talking first? Bueller? Bueller?

(ooc: Another example of a first person post here, from mask or menace.)

Sample Entry Two: (from mask or menace)

Gabriel wasn't sure what had happened anymore, and for him that was a new one. The archangel was used to "flicking ahead" when he needed to see what was going on. He'd seen the discussion with Lucifer and how it would probably have ended, and that part hadn't disappointed per say. His own brother had managed to kill him, and in Gabriel's mind it was labelled under "annoying as Hell, but shit happens". After all, if Lucifer hadn't killed him, he'd have killed Lucifer. At least the brothers had gotten away with the dvd, the information on how to put Lucifer back in his cage. Gabriel had been all for letting things run their course, even trying to hurry them along at one point before Dean had come out with a few home truths. Then it had been fuck everything, but most of all fuck destiny.

And yet merely a month prior Gabriel had been up to his usual tricks. He could remember with ease how he'd watched a man get pummeled to death by a big, green killing machine. The asshole had had it coming to him, some would call it just desserts which was fitting. The victim had a temper on him, enjoyed taking it out on his wife. Gabriel had merely returned the favor in the most hilarious of ways, even if the wife had seemed a bit fucking crazy explaining that one to the police. There had been many laughs and then some more over that one.

Just thinking about it as he briefly glanced at the folder handed to him made Gabriel grin. The police reckoned it was a bear. Gabriel would love to see a bear that could leave an eight foot hole in the porch. That would be a dammed cool bear, and even now Gabriel was mentally adding it to his list of things to use in future.

Now he was in some strange place, and Gabriel wasn't sure if it was what the woman was saying or some strange concept of angelic afterlife. It was never a question they'd really entertained. For people it was simple- if you were good you went to Heaven, if you were bad you went to Hell. For demons and some others there was Purgatory, though Gabriel wasn't sure if the archangels qualified for that cesspit of eldritch horrors. And this place sure didn't look like it. Soon he was nodding idly at the explanation of the device he was now being handed. Simple enough, anyone who didn't understand that was a certified moron. If this was to be believed, it was a group of people fucking with things to get their own way. Gabriel had found it hard to side with anyone in the war between Heaven and Hell. This group would have a hell of a time trying to get him to do anything.

Gabriel never did anything he didn't want to do. If this group could deal with an archangel sitting around drinking diet orange slice, then that was their prerogative. Unless the Winchester boys were around, like they were always bound to be. Then things could be more fun than planned.

[personal profile] lapdogged 2014-06-14 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality:

As Andy Hinomiya himself would put it (quite bluntly, at that), he's "incomplete", or "stuck halfway".

He somehow acts as the typical easy-going, protagonist – but also, at the same time, as the coolheaded and determined USEI spy intent on his mission, no matter the costs. Neither of these sides are ‘false’, as they are both just radically different parts of the true Andy Hinomiya.

The first ‘side’ we’re introduced to in the anime is Andy’s ‘protagonist’ guise. He’s shown to be easy-going and strong hearted, unable to turn away from someone in need of help, even if he’ll let out a few grumbles here and there about it being troublesome. Andy will do as he is asked by members, ridiculous requests and all, even if it leaves him stranded on an island with a bag full of melting ice cream, or mopping the deck of a cruise ship all while being taunted. This attitude is extended towards Yugiri as well, although Andy doesn't do as much grumbling, and actually cares for her in an openly brotherly way. He is fiercely protective of Yugiri, willing to endanger his own life to save hers, and shows surprising gentleness when handling her. In fact, Andy takes great pains to tell Yugiri that her unstable powers are not her fault, most likely because Andy sympathises with Yugiri's experiences of being feared and rejected because of something beyond her control. This relationship with Yugiri exposes a soft side of the otherwise no-nonsense military man that most people see, showing that despite his gruff yet helpful persona, he is an empathetic man who can't abide by seeing others suffer.

This empathy of Andy's is another strong trait of his, and is why he settles into PANDRA very quickly. Despite proclaiming to hate espers - very frankly and bluntly - Andy quickly sees the people behind the term 'esper', and finds himself being absorbed into their weird yet close knit 'family'. It's a place where those who don't belong do belong, a place that Andy has always yearned for deeply, and while he always keeps his mission in mind (and, in fact, carries it out to the very end), he does find it difficult to do after knowing and genuinely befriending PANDRA.

Which leads us onto the last protagonist-esque trait that Andy possesses: his hot-bloodedness. The reason why Andy is PANDRA’s – specifically, Hyobu’s – favourite chewtoy is because he’s so easily riled up and flustered. He’s got some bark to him, however, in that he’s quick to snap out semi-friendly banter to the teasing, and even builds up a good rapport with Hyobu (and Yoh) in this way, exchanging quips and barbs with him by the end of the anime. He’s stubborn to a fault as well, carrying something to the end, even if it isn’t the best decision. So, Andy’s ‘protagonist’ side can be summed up as thus; a stubborn yet soft-hearted man with the unfortunate job occupation of ‘chewtoy’.

Of course, Andy harbors some demons of his own, which manifests in the more serious side he's reluctant to show around anyone he feels he needs to (emotionally) stay arm's length away from. While he puts on a laid-back persona around the members of PANDRA, he’s shown to be quiet, intent and serious as well, as he can be very blunt with his words and frank about his thoughts and circumstances. He’s fiercely loyal to USEI and the mission given to him because they gave Andy acceptance and a purpose – things he never really had because of what he was: neither a normal nor an esper as other espers would define him. In fact, this ‘halfness’ is what largely drives Andy throughout life. He is constantly searching for a place to belong, for someone, or anything, to accept him as what he is, despite being ‘incomplete’, which leaves Andy rather vulnerable to manipulation. USEI took advantage of that vulnerability, and they succeeded, for a time, to have a very loyal lapdog at their beck and call. It probably helped as well that Andy was naturally harsh towards other espers anyway, if only because they lash out at him the most, mocking him for not having powers despite being classed as an esper. Meanwhile, Andy is notably more accepting towards normals, probably because they can’t detect he’s any different from them, due to the nature of his powers.

The cool headed, serious side of him rears his head during his infiltration of PANDRA, usually when he is alone and out of the prying eyes of the organisation’s members, to help him keep a cool head whenever he is pressed into a corner. Like this, he's very good at deflecting suspicion and scrutiny by thinking of plausible lies or explanations on his feet, and maintaining a calm attitude – which is decidedly at odds with the hot-blooded attitude he himself displays. This relates to his theme of duality, in that while he seems like the type of person to charge forwards in dire situations, Andy is actually more of the type to take a step back and consider all of his options first.

That’s why, despite possessing traits that would make him a horrible spy – Andy’s actually pretty good at his job. While Hyobu hadn’t been fooled at the beginning (he is, after all, a very observant man), Andy managed to fool the entirety of PANDRA, who accepted him after a period of hazing. In fact, Andy infiltrated PANDRA so effectively that he fell into the trap that many spies fall into – he began to become ‘the mask’, genuinely caring for the well-being of the members of PANDRA.

By the end of the anime, the two sides of Andy, the hot-blooded protagonist and the serious USEI Agent, start to blur together to form his true personality; an open-hearted man determined to do the right thing. Andy owns up to the mistakes he made whilst acting as USEI’s spy, seeking Hyobu’s forgiveness directly and frankly while also trying to fix said mistakes without asking for anything in return. Not many people have the strength of heart to do such a thing, yet it’s something that Andy does without hesitation. He states once more that he's stuck halfway – between his two sides – yet it is for the better, this time, as it leaves Andy feeling a lot more content with who and what he is, and instead of viewing his "half-ness" as a liability, sees it as a sign that there is only something he himself can do.

Abilities/Powers:

> The power of being Hyobu's eternal chewtoy- okay no, seriously;

> Able to null supernatural abilities/ESP by close proximity. His 'range' for his passive ESP nulling ability increases when he's under a great deal of stress. Has some level of control over this due to the Limiter Hyoubu gave him. Close proximity with espers makes them have headaches or nausea when his powers are active.

> When physically touching someone, he can temporarily disable all ESP by sending a 'pulse' through them (this involves his left eye, which seems to be the source of his Anti-ESP ability in some way). Meaning, he can turn espers into normals for a brief moment of time, no matter how powerful they are, as in canon, Andy successfully neutralises Fujiko Tsubomi's and Hyobu Kyosuke's ESP, who are known to be powerful espers - even the strongest. However, it's unclear how long the effects lasts for, since it's stated that it depends on the person/how long Andy has physical contact for.

> Linked to the ability from above, Andy's 'Null ESP' ability makes him immune to hypnotising and mind reading, makes it difficult to teleport him, and he is able to cancel out powers aimed at him that are telekinesis or conjured fire/electricity/wind - although throwing physical objects at him with telekinesis works perfectly fine.

> Has a biochip implanted in his left eye that gives him several functions, although one of them won't work in Haven: The Person Icon, which allows him to contact USEI agents with a conjured video call through his eye. The other icons are the Combat Icon which gives him a boost with enhanced reflexes/speed, and the Scan Icon, which lets him scan specific areas for tiny details like fingerprints or the like.

> Has had military training, and shown to have high weapon handling capabilities (able to use both close combat weapons such as tonfas, or handle a wide range of firearms from pistols to GPMGs and Sniper Rifles). Also possesses a high level of martial arts training, and is shown to be very swift and agile when fighting close quarters.

Items/Weapons:

> The Limiter that Hyoubu gave him
> Glock 19 firearm
> 60 9mm rounds.

Sample Entry: Link!

Sample Entry Two: Andy was tempted to start charging a flat rate fee for his gopher duties.

He wasn't sure how he became the unspoken gopher of The Catastrophe, but the moment he set foot on that damned ship, he had been bouncing from one menial task to the next - literally at times, where he learned that the deck of the ship had enough give to let one effectively bounce off of it - and right now, Andy was beginning to think that they were just concocting mind-numbing tasks as a form of bizarre torture. Were they trying to see how long it took for the newbie to crack from the hazing? Maybe they were all just bored psychopaths? Or maybe... they knew...?!

...no, most definitely the bored psychopaths explanation.

"Ahhh..." Andy let out an exhausted, defeated groan, dropping the paintbrush into the can and pressing his hand against his face. He could feel the stickiness of paint cling to his cheeks, but at that point, he honestly stopped caring. He wondered if he would be put out of his misery if he launched himself from the rails of The Catastrophe. Probably not. Damn shame.

"I get climbing from the bottom of the ladder up, but this is just getting ridiculous," he grumbled to himself, stooping down to pick the paintbrush up again. Of course, this placed him in a very vulnerable position - bending down, ass ready to get a solid kick, or a shove - even after his impromptu swimming pool dip, Andy just never learned.

[personal profile] handsomefoil 2014-06-14 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality:
At first glance, Henry is a mild-mannered professional assassin: down-to-earth, polite, relatively intelligent, with a hint of sass. He has an air of haughtiness about him, something he's acquired from living in the UK and France for long periods of his life although he was raised in Ireland. (It's more than likely he was physically born in the United States, but there's no proof of where Travis and Henry were born.) He was taught manners and etiquette at a young age by strict parents who also taught him the ways of becoming an assassin- but he rebels against them in a very subtle way by not really giving too much of a shit about their strict mannerisms and codes. He believes in his own rules and codes, though it's not far-fetched to say that his up-bringing helped shape and mold his principles to this day. It was speculated that Henry was in on the killing game with Sylvia in their early years together. A honey-moon stage for them, as morbid and twisted as it may sound to others. He wasn't and still isn't blind to her behaviour, but back then it probably seemed like a good way to get quick cash in huge amounts. He knew her tendency to spend money like it's nothing would require some unsavory methods, but it wasn't so difficult to accept in the beginning. He realized as time went on that he actually did have a conscience, and while still married to Sylvia, he technically went rogue, giving up his #1 spot in the game and leaving it for whoever happened to be next. This shows that despite his grey-area morals, he still has a limit to how much bad he can do, unlike his ex-wife.

While he realizes murdering people is "bad", he actually quite enjoys his job and is not at all squeamish. It's more likely that it's due to these killings are turned into a spectator's sport where assassins are just now killing each other instead of doing their actual jobs. While taking out another assassin isn't wrong per se, when it's just assassins against other assassins in a gladiator style death-match over and over again, what's the point in calling one's self an assassin? There's a bit of nuance that Henry takes pride in, and he hates what the UAA (United Assassins Association) has turned his profession into.

He keeps his cool most of the time, but like the Irishman he is, has a bit of a temper if provoked enough. Being thrown into an unknown situation against his will (ie. his subconscious, fighting against Mimmy), realizing his wife cheated on him with his twin brother Travis Touchdown, and generally having to deal with wacky shit that he feels is a waste of his time (ie. the boss battle against Jasper Batt Jr). It's funny that he thinks this way since he's kind of a strange character himself. It's probably because he's not as ridiculous as some of the characters that are encountered that he sees himself as better or above them. This shows in his actions, as he does whatever the hell he wants, whether it's blatantly fourth-walling or interfering with Travis's fights or breaking out of the assassin game that he and his ex had set up in the first place, only to enter back in as a secret boss when it's convenient for him. The fact that he's even able to (or allowed, from the game creator's perspective) do any of these things gives him a greater - if false - sense of power, making him come off a bit cocky. He's completely aware of his lack of actual control or power over his life though, which he's come to terms with, and powers through it all with dry humor or violence.

Being reminded of any weaknesses or troubles in his past are very unwelcome, however, something he responds to with bitter resentment or anger. Emotional or physical weakness was something his family looked down upon. If you had a weakness, you either kept it hidden or you overcame it, and this way of thinking is one of the few things that were ingrained into him since childhood. Any reminders of his own weaknesses are rarely elaborated upon, but it's easy to assume that he hates it. Anything involving his relationship with Sylvia and his daughter are touchy subjects (headcanon information about his direct family from here on:), for he doesn't get to see his daughter much. After the divorce in the second installment, it's likely that Sylvia won custody of their young daughter Jeane. During a cut scene in Henry's subconscious, he's confronted by a rainy scene in front of a house, and while there's absolutely no information regarding this scene whatsoever, it can be one of couple things: the house he grew up in or the house that he, Sylvia, and Jeane lived in, and it dredges up some unpleasant emotions in either situation.

He misses his daughter and probably has a hint of regret of doing what he does for a living, possibly because he just wants to settle down and live a normal life as a father, but it's not as if he can just sulk and cling to the past so he covers his weaknesses and deals with it. Mimmy says an interesting thing during their encounter in Henry's subconscious, claiming that he "did not wish to go back [to the conscious world]" and that he called out to her. Mimmy seems to be an embodiment of his subconscious or parasite in his mind and wants to keep him in his comatose state because he secretly wishes to stay in the scenery of his old house, but due to the strength of his willpower to shut down any weaknesses, he ignores her tempting offer and eradicates her existence completely.

While Henry is a strong individual with good manners and occasional homicidal tendencies, he does had a slightly unhealthy method of keeping up his clean-cut image.

Abilities/Powers:
Henry possesses inhuman speed and strength. He's not particularly strong or fast in comparison to most fictional characters, but stronger than almost any real human being in the real world. That was a dumb way of explaining it, sorry. He is capable of performing Meteor Moves, and crashing through the window of an office at 30-stories, that ridiculous sort of thing.

Items/Weapons:
Aside from the clothing he's wearing in the picture, he also carries his beam saber ("Cross Sword") with him everywhere he goes. In his pocket is just a wallet, and maybe half a pack of cigarettes, too.

Sample Entry Two: From LJ's HellpointeRP [link for ref]

The horde of zombies closed in on Henry as he desperately hacked and slashed at them. The smell of guts, blood and rotting skin was overwhelming, suffocating him as he tried to find a way out of the crowd. He needed to get to higher ground.

A low moan came up from behind him, and in one swift movement, he turned and decapitated the zombie that probably once used to be a businessman. Its head flew off off and hit the ground with a sickening plop, flecks of blood and meat flying out. He didn't grimace or react, but merely gave the lifeless head a hard stare before leaping into the air and up onto a third floor balcony of a nearby apartment building. He grunted softly upon landing and assessed his current position and situation. The streets were littered with zombies, clawing and pounding at the walls and doors of the building he had just jumped onto. His brow furrowed in concentration.

“Bloody zombies,” he muttered, looking up towards the sky for even higher ground. “Where did these things suddenly come from? I can't help but wonder who's fault this all was this time. It's usually a rampant biological weapon that was exposed to the public, or a new strain of virus or super rabies contracted from feral animals.” Then he leaped again, landing gracefully on the roof now.

It was quiet up here, almost too quiet. Henry gazed down at the dirty and imperfect city of Santa Destroy, now populated by mindless, flesh-eating corpses. It had never been a pretty place to live, but it was never this bad. He wondered if some of the smarter UAA assassins managed to survive, and unsurprisingly, Travis came to mind. That made him laugh. There was no way his brother would've been taken by dull-witted zombies. He was better than that. He knew that for a fact.

There was a moment of painful silence accompanied by low eerie moans from down below. His gaze was fixed on the gruesome scenery, but something in his gut told him to turn around. Unfortunately, he was too late. A single gloved hand gripped at Henry's arm tightly. Henry caught a glimpse of a red leather sleeve attached to the body of a very familiar face. What he saw and felt at that second made his heart sink into the pit of his stomach.

“No, Travis...”

This thing was no longer his twin brother. Their faces may have looked the same, even with the mess of dried blood caking Travis's face, but Henry didn't know who this thing was anymore. He cringed painfully; the expression of grief and pain looked foreign on his usually calm and collected face. With a resigned sigh, he closed his eyes as Travis bared his teeth and lunged.

….......................................

Henry startled himself awake, yelling out, sweat streaming down his face. His hand immediately went for his arm where zombie-Travis had grabbed him. He was sitting up on the sofa in his living room, the TV playing and replaying the menu screen of a popular zombie flick. Travis had recommended it to him.

“That was a weird nightmare,” he mumbled, sighing heavily right after. The TV was turned off, along with the lights, and Henry made his way to the bedroom, but stopped dead in his tracks as he passed by the front door. He could've sworn he heard a moaning sound and scratching on the other side.

Previous Game History:

Stiles spent almost a year under the grip of COMPASS in Exit Void, and for better or worse, he has changed. At first he had been dumped onto a ship called the Charon; for the first time in years, he found himself without Scott, meaning he had to learn how to rely on himself, more than any other time. Jackson and Derek were there, as well, and despite their constant bickering, they ended up managing to be friends. There were adventures in Jurassic Park, and other situations where Stiles learned to be resourceful and create powerful friendships that would sustain him throughout his time. When Jackson canon updated, though...things went a bit south. Not wanting to deal with the Kanima again, Stiles told the entire network what Jackson was to become--and it created a rift between the two that only got worse when Jackson went mad and mauled Stiles. He now sports three claw-mark scars on his left cheek and down his neck. That was when Stiles found himself at his lowest--he acted out towards everyone, including Scott (who showed up after the Kanima (part deux) incident). It was a long hard road, but eventually Stiles came to see the scars as a mark of what he has survived, and realizes they made him stronger.

One of the most troubling events he ever went through, is when they were transported to Silent Hill. Stiles was forced to kill a monster in the form of his mother, something that he still struggles with.

Halfway through his little ‘vacation’, Stiles ends up in Zelien. This city brought him a little bit of respite when it came to fighting, but different sorts of struggles. He did find happiness, even if it didn’t last--Erica showed up, and they had a very brief romance (where he lost his virginity, yay!), but she soon went home, to her death. The rest of his time spent in the city was devoted to research, trying to use his smarts to find a way out, and becoming a bigger fighter--something less of a liability. He became tired of having to rely on other people to save him, so he started to work with Derek Hale to learn how better to save himself.

Within his canon mates, there were changes in dynamics. Scott started to become a more reckless sort of hero, something that Stiles really struggled with; additionally, more people started to follow Scott, believe in him. Stiles felt slightly shoved to the side, and found ways to make up for it. Additionally, Stiles became good friends with Derek Hale. While initially they fought most (all) of the time, after Erica’s departure, they started to work together more often. It first was an allegiance, a barely-tolerated situation, but as they both started to research the Gods in the city, . and making some of the same ideas and plants separately, they realized that working together might be a good idea. Derek started to train him, and Stiles started to confide in Derek the things that he was scared to tell Scott.

Overall, Stiles has a harder edge, now. He realizes that there are horrible things, worse things than could ever occur in Beacon Hills. He has to be tough, he has to be prepared to suffer, and know it might just be the way things are. There is still some brightness to him, occasionally, but he is a realist more now, than he ever was before, and while he occasionally worries that he has become too cynical...he realizes it might be necessary.

Personality:
Stiles Stilinksi, while considered the ‘sidekick’ to Scott’s main character, is as much a force to be reckoned with as his best friend. He has ADHD, and takes medication to keep it at bay--as a result, he is sometimes flighty, and suffers from ‘shiny’ syndrome occasionally. He seems to love researching weird things (like the history of male circumcision). He’s pretty nerdy, and clearly has a love of scifi and horror films of all types, and also plays online games (it’s alluded to be something like World of Warcraft). At the beginning of the first season, we see Stiles as an unpopular high school student. Despite being on the Lacrosse team, he doesn’t seem to have any friends besides Scott--someone he relies on heavily. While not explicitly said, it would not be surprising to find out that Stiles joined Lacrosse so that he could be close to Scott. He supports his friend completely, and sees him as his partner in crime in situations.

Even when Scott starts having his little ‘werewolf’ problem, Stiles stay steadfastly loyal--there is no abandonment, no judgement. He gets scared, yes, and occasionally freaks out, but he never once leaves his friend in a lurch. Instead, he learns everything he can about the situation, and more than once puts himself into deadly situations to help him. This includes being willing to die with him, to try and save him during the events of Motel California. With Scott, more than anyone else, he has a very clear ‘you die, I die’ philosophy. This doesn’t mean he doesn’t lash out times (after Scott kissed Lydia, for example), but for the most part, he does his best trying to support and do what is best for Scott--even if Scott doesn’t realize it at the time.

Stiles is the brains of the situation--even as things start getting more complicated, as more werewolves start showing up, he keeps his head on straight, and acts as the researcher. During the third season he is the first to recognize that the deaths occurring around them are the result of sacrifices--the three fold death, done in threes. While his methods aren’t always the most...conventional, his reasoning and his gut is usually correct. Even Derek, who doesn’t trust him, who doesn’t see him as much more as a kid most of the time, relies on him to gain information that they need to survive. Whether its’ manipulating Derek to take his shirt off repeatedly in front of a gay man to get said gay man to provide them technical help, or getting his father drunk to gain more information on a case, Stiles uses his cunning and creative brain to find solutions to dire problems. He, in fact, is the one who first suspects that Matt might be the one who controls the Kanima. It’s a gut instinct born of observation, and while no one believes him at the time--it’s proven correct.

Stiles shows bravery (or stupidity), in a great many situations--he spends two hours treading water to keep a paralyzed Derek from drowning while the Kanima stalks them. Repeatedly he throws himself in the fray to try and protect those he cares about (friends, family). He will put his own desires aside, if it means helping them. However, it doesn’t extend necessarily to other people. Yes, it is important to try and save people, but it is clear that if it means protecting a loved one, or part of the self-made ‘pack’, other people can die. It sucks, but hey, if someone has to die, it might as well not be someone he cares about. Stiles willingly sacrifices himself to save his father, putting a bit of darkness within himself so he doesn’t lose his last remaining parent.

Thing is--Stiles doesn’t consider himself a hero. As he tells Scott, he can’t do what he does--he doesn’t have powers...he’s human. Painfully so. He feels that sarcasm is his only defense, and tends to discount his own actions. His self esteem is low in season 1, and by season 2 we start to see it slide into the gutter. He’s stressed, always, and towards the end is suffering from hyper-vigilance--the feeling that everything is going to crash down on top of him. We see him struggling with his father, his own feelings of inadequacy, and the deep seated pain of his mother’s death start to surface. He lashes out at Lydia in a very uncharacteristic manner in the last episode of the second season, as if all his stress, all his fear of those around him dying, comes crashing to the surface. Things seem to be better in season three, with him coming into his own, owning his intelligence, his capability to hold his own. He starts fighting harder alongside Scott, facing down hell with a hardened edge. Weakness can’t be tolerated; he has to be strong if he’s going to save those he loves. That doesn’t mean he doesn’t have doubts; when he’s in the ambulance with Cora, he still worries that he is useless, that all he can do is ‘find the bodies’, but it’s a momentary bout of self-doubt.

Stiles *severely* lacks a filter on his mouth, and it gets him in trouble. Underneath the humor, the light attitude, Stiles is someone who lacks self esteem in himself, and worries that he will always be second best (or worse) to all of those around him. Even when he refuses the bite from Peter Hale, he is told he’s a liar--that he truly wished to be something *better* than he was, then. As someone who has always been completely under the radar, with one sole friend, the sudden appearance of super-special werewolves (and Scott’s inclusion in the group), and his best friend gaining a girlfriend, he starts to feel well and truly alone. However, by the end of season three, it’s clear that he’s found his place within the group. It may be just their small little group against the world, but he’s just fine with that. Things may be shit, things may get shittier, but at least he knows where he stands, and can take strength in that.

When it comes to his father, Stiles has a good but complicated relationship. He hallucinates that his father blames him for his mother’s death--and Stiles, one to always talk, to always have some quip--simply takes the abuse, and is silent and unresponsive to Scott afterwards. It is clear that he feels that it is true--that he has let his father down (despite trying to take care of him), and that he is a failure as a son. He readily admits he used to have panic attacks after his mother died--and it is quite clear that they probably haven’t completely gone away. The death of his mother has injured him greatly, and like Derek Hale, he internalizes it--though instead of becoming broody, Stiles attempts to pretend that nothing is wrong, hiding behind the mask of sarcasm to make sure that know one knows he’s hurting. When he attempts to tell his father about the supernatural, and his father refuses to believe, he quips that his mother would have believed him. While they love each other deeply, and would clearly do anything to keep the other safe, the loss of Mrs. Stilinski still weighs heavily on both of them.

Adding a *tiny* bit about important relationships here, because I don’t know where else to put it. I think in the main body of the personality section I’ve covered Scott and him pretty well--I just wanted to put in a small blurb about Lydia.

Lydia Martin is a young woman that Stiles has loved for 10 years. A great many of his own character weaknesses come out when he is around her. He is awkward, unable to truly express himself. Also, one could contend that he is a bit self-deluded about her. It is clear after the few times they talk, that while he knows a great deal about her, he doesn’t know her. It’s clear that while he may not realize it, he’s in love with the ‘idea’ of Lydia, but not the actual Lydia. He’s placed her on a pedestal, which isn’t fair to Stiles, or to Lydia. By season three we see that Stiles is becoming friends with her, and accepting her as a person, not just as a love interest. He is trying to help her discover what she is, and supports her in her abilities. It shows the growth within Stiles, that he can finally want to see her as a friend and a real human, instead of a creature to be idealized, and maybe realize that her being happy is more important than her being with him.

Abilities/Powers:

- The ability to be the ‘spark’. While this may sound strange and hokey, it has been proven that Stiles has the capability of willing certain types of magic/lore to work with enough hope/imagination. This isn’t a gift solely his alone (it appears that humans are capable of it), he’s learned how to use it--at least with mountain ash.

-Intelligence. It’s clear that Stiles has more than the average amount of intelligence, and he uses it to the best of his ability. He tends to put things together quickly and manages to be right most (?) of the time.

-Sarcasm. That totally counts as an ability correct?

Items/Weapons: A metal bat. A gun with a full clip. A bag of mountain ash.

Sample Entry: here

Sample Entry Two:

There used to be an old myth that if you were falling in a dream and you didn’t wake up before you hit the ground, you’d die in real life.

The dreams also symbolize insecurity, instability, anxiety.

They signified a sense of failure or inferiority in some circumstance or situation.

Stiles had been having a lot of dreams like that, lately. Ones where he barely wakes up before he hits the ground--or instead of the ground it’s water, and he only starts to drown.

Because hey, he’s never going to get just one nightmare. It’s going to be a nightmare within a nightmare. A nightmare-ception.

Stiles had honestly hoped that after everything was said and done, after the horrors of the Charon, of Zelien, after the fucking Chuthulu gridmark god shit, they would get to go home. That things would be okay, even.

Well not ‘okay’, but better than the ‘ I’m probably going to die today in a horrible, bloody, ‘oh god they are going to find my body parts strewn throughout the town’ way he had been feeling lately.

He still felt like there was something that he had missed; that everything had been a bit of a hollow victory, for him. Sure, they had won the fucking day. Sure, the COMPASS people said they could go home. That they finally ‘beat the game’, and could go home to Beacon Hills. But...from everything Derek had told him, from what Lydia told him--whatever he had been going home to? Was going to be a mess. A horror show the likes of which he hadn’t seen.

Well, hadn’t seen until showing up in COMPASS experiments, that is. But from what he understood, he wasn’t going to remember this place, going home. The friendships he had made...how he had changed, all of that would be pulled away from him.

That understanding that things were going to change, no matter what he did--that had to be the cause of the dreams, right?

So when the dream started again, after Stiles stepped through the portal, that was going to take them home, he didn’t think anything of it. It’s just how it had to happen, right?

Except this time, as he rushed towards the ground, he felt as if his eyes were wide open. Stiles threw his arms out in front of him, screaming “Wake up! Wake up!”

And wake up he did.

To a bed, in a strange room. With five other beds.

“...what...the fuck.”

Stiles started to untangle himself, pushing himself into a sitting position to look around himself. This? Looked nothing like his bedroom. Or home. And as he brought his hand up to his face, he felt the three scars sliding along his face. Signs of his time under COMPASS’ yoke.

Forcing himself to standing, he ran a hand over hair, trying to keep himself calm. He hadn’t had a panic attack in a while, and he was not going to have one here. In a place that wasn’t home, that didn’t look like a COMPASS place, either. How the hell did this happen? How did he get--

--how did it go wrong?

“Okay, just think Stiles, think--”

He muttered to himself, trying to sort this out. So he was stuck in a weird place (again), and he wasn’t sure if anyone from home (or Zelien) was with him--or if they had made it home. That left him with two options from his random set of knowledge. He was either stuck in some weird sci-fi/fantasy type thing (again), which meant that wandering might be okay. People might even be around--you know, a friendly half-goat man, or something.

Or he was stuck in some weirdly themed slasher trope (again), which meant that wandering was going to get him hacked into little pieces. Because guess what? He wasn’t a virgin, anymore. And non-virgins always died.

First thing, look for some sort of marker--something hint at where you are.

Stiles let out a breath and forced himself to focus; turning 180 degrees..but found nothing. Nothing, yet.

Damn it--

“What the hell is going on...”

[personal profile] thelittlestwinchester 2014-06-15 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: Once upon a time, Adam Milligan was a completely normal boy. He had a loving mother, lots of friends, and got good grades at school. What few behavioral issues he caused during his youth were quickly dealt with and any resentments he carried toward his absentee father were eventually worked through once John re-appeared in his life just after his twelfth birthday. By the time he'd graduated from high school, Adam was a well-balanced young man who enjoyed the typical things other teenage boys liked – girls and cars, primarily – and had aspirations to become a doctor. He was fun-loving, intelligent, and many said he was fairly mature for his tender age.

Then he was tracked down and murdered by a ghoul.

For all intents and purposes, that should have been the end of Adam Milligan. In a way, it was, too, because the young man who was brought back to life by the angels was not the same young man who had been murdered by that ghoul.

No, that Adam was troubled and mistrusting. He was angry at the life he'd had taken from him and furious that it had happened solely because of who his father happened to be. He held major resentment toward his half-brothers for reasons he couldn't even explain. He hated the fact that they were so close, hated the fact that he wasn't a part of their dynamic, yet also hated the fact that they wanted to include him in that dynamic. He was mistrusting of them from the start and was motivated solely by the fact that he wanted desperately to see his mother again. Whereas before he would have at least listened to another view on the subject, the Adam that was raised from the dead wasn't interested in such things. The angels had told him what needed to happen and, as far as he was concerned, that was all that mattered.

Ultimately, Adam's common sense did kick in but it was too late. His own stubbornness had left him deaf to reason for too long. Just as he began to come back to himself and realize that maybe his brothers weren't the enemy after all, and certainly weren't the reason he and his mother had died in the first place, Michael was using him as a vessel.

And then he was in Lucifer's cage.

It goes without saying that the cage has changed Adam. The man he is now is barely a shadow of the man he once was. The joy he once found in life has been forgotten, as has the hope he held out that he'd someday be reunited with his mother again. The blind trust he once had in the world around him, and the people in his life, has been shattered, and the resentment and hatred he carried toward the Winchesters, as well as his own, unfortunate, lot in life, has only grown during the time he's been left alone, forgotten, in a place where only the devil should be.

Of course, there's still hope for him. He isn't broken entirely. His mind is still his own, his thoughts and actions are driven by logic. He's ever the bit as intelligent as he was before and he's certainly capable of being just as dryly sarcastic and caustic as ever. With time and support, he could theoretically bounce back from the brink. He could continue to grow, and flourish, and perhaps even someday forgive himself for the mistakes he's made and the world for screwing him over so many times.

For now, though, the only things keeping Adam going are his resentments, his anger, and a strong desire to survive despite all the odds that are stacked against him.

Abilities/Powers: Adam is a Winchester (by blood) and therefore is one of the few who can be Michael's vessel. He's intelligent, as evident by his choice to go into the medical field, and because of his mother's occupation does have some medical (triage/first aid) experience. He seems to be a quick study and his knack for taking things in stride is something that can come in handy. However, he has very limited knowledge of the supernatural world and no special abilities of his own whatsoever, magical or otherwise.

Items/Weapons: Adam will arrive with nothing more than the clothes he's wearing.
thelittlestwinchester: (Default)

[personal profile] thelittlestwinchester 2014-06-15 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
Sample Entry: Adam arriving at another game.

Sample Entry Two: Pain. For as long as he could remember, pain was all Adam had known. No. Pain wasn't the right word. Agony, maybe. Or something even stronger than that, whatever that might be. Words were failing him at the moment. Everything was failing him at the moment. His senses told him that where he'd found himself was real, that there wasn't any fire consuming him, that the pain he'd known for so long was finally, finally gone. Yet experience told him that it wouldn't last. Sooner or later, Lucifer would grow tired of the illusion, or Michael would put a stop to it, and the agony would return, even stronger than before as the two Archangels once again began to fight while putting Adam squarely in the middle.

It hadn't always been that way, he was pretty sure. Once upon a time, Sam had been there too. Sam had protected him as best he could, done everything in his power to keep him shielded from the grudge match between the higher beings. Then Sam had gone away, and Adam had been left alone. Alone to deal with everything while having no power to stop any of it. Alone to come to terms with the fact that this was his existence, now. He was nothing more than a means to an end. A way for Lucifer to strike out at Michael, and a way for Michael to show his displeasure at Adam not being good enough... at him not being Dean.

And then it was inexplicably gone and, while Adam knew that it couldn't be real, because nothing this nice would ever be real again, he was still loathe to see it end. It was those moments, those rare instances when the torture stopped and before the mind games began, that he was able to sometimes - just sometimes - seize hold of his sanity and try to figure out a way to survive another day.

This time, though, things were decidedly different. When he tried walking away once getting off the boat, no one stopped him. The illusion didn't dissolve. In fact, he was greeted with the sharp sounds and harsh lights of a world he'd forgotten even existed. No. Not his world. Somewhere else. Still not the cage, though.

Stumbling backward a bit, as the sounds began to assault him from multiple directions, he blinked a few times before forcing his legs to continue carrying him. Whatever Lucifer was playing at, whatever was keeping Michael from stepping in, Adam didn't care. He just knew that this was a chance to at least try to find a way out and he wasn't about to waste it.

Character Name: Rail
Canon: Baccano!
Canon Point: The beginning of the 1935-A novel.
Background/History: Canon information about Rail can be found here and here.
Personality:

Rail is one of the younger members of Lamia, a group of homunculi created by Huey Laforet that carries out his orders for him. On the outside, people will notice right away that Rail has a very distinct appearance. She's covered from head to toe in numerous scars and stitches, which gives her a very frightening appearance. Her face is torn up in a way that it looks like she's always smiling.

In a lot of ways, she acts like a very bratty teenager. She has a very laid-back, nonchalant attitude and tends to be very unapologetic and brutally honest. She rarely feels guilty, especially over what she considers to be small stuff, like showing up to a Lamia meeting late or insulting someone. She also approaches missions with a lazy attitude, like being briefed on a mission and then telling the rest of the Lamia members to have someone contact her while she goes off to do her own thing. One of her biggest flaws that gets her in trouble is her reckless and overconfident attitude, like going into town despite knowing there's people out looking for her. She just assumes that she'd be able to take on whoever decides to attack her.

She's also frequently either smiling or laughing, sometimes over things that aren't considered appropriate to laugh at, like when someone points out that she isn't being loyal to Huey, she laughs and suggests she might be killed for it. And while someone giving her odd looks because of her appearance might normally be considered hurtful, she fully accepts this and is amused anytime someone gets weirded out by how she looks. Often she'll use self-depreciating humor to expose how she really feels about herself. That she feels like she has no worth in the world and there's no place for unnatural creatures like herself. She tells Chi that she "doesn't plan to be remembered throughout history".

Out of all terms that could be used to describe Rail, "bomb freak" would fit her perfectly. It's her main weapon during fights, and she's willing to use them anywhere without even a second thought. The reason she favors bombs above any other weapon is very personal to her, because despite the resentment she has towards the rest of the world, she also desperately wants to be noticed (and eventually accepted) by it. This is symbolized by the kind of weapons she uses, because everyone notices and reacts when a bomb goes off. Or in an extreme case, the damage done to a person by a bomb is something that can't be forgotten. It's her way of trying to carve out an existence in a world she knows she doesn't belong in, but wants to be included too. Even though she says she won't be remembered by history, she looks for ways to make sure she wouldn't be easily forgotten about by the rest of humanity.

Also unlike the other Lamia, she's the only one who has and doesn't bother to hide her hatred towards her creator, Huey. During the Lamia meeting, she openly insults him and doesn't bother calling Huey "master" like everyone else does. Later, she even admits to Christopher that she'd gladly turn traitor and that she's been wanting to blow up Huey for a long time.

And speaking of Christopher, there's two homunculi that Rail feels particularly close to and only two that she'll allow herself to reveal her true feelings towards - Frank and Christopher Shouldered. Despite her nonchalant attitude towards most things, Frank is someone she'll get protective of in an instant and is someone she views as something like a younger brother. Another homunculi around her age, Frank was with her when she had to endure experiment after experiment, and when he was captured, she ended up having a breakdown and used her bombs to cause a ton of destruction in order to rescue him.

And then there's Christopher Shouldered. If Frank is considered her younger brother, then Christopher is the older brother in this family set-up. They bonded after Rail started to undergo several traumatizing experiments, and since then she's looked up him as a role model and older brother figure. Others even note that her personality is becoming a lot similar to Chris', in that she's picking up on his odd way of behaving and speaking. She's also one of the Lamia who took his disappearance the hardest.

All of Huey's homunculi in some way have had their personalities influenced due to the experiments they've had to endure in the lab. In Rail's case, she was cut open over and over without any anesthesia until she eventually lost her sense of pain. She remembers that when the scientists were ordered to cut her up, she came to the realization that she wasn't anything more then an object. Before that moment, she knew her existence wasn't natural, but thought that made her special. After seeing the scientists who worked on her didn't have any trace of emotion while they operated, this view of herself was broken. She became bitter and hateful, especially towards scientists, at the realization that she didn't have any worth other then just being a "thing" to be experimented on over and over. And while she understood her role as a test subject, she didn't want to accept it. She didn't want to be an object, and if she can't be a human, then she would instead view herself as superior to all humans.

What's kept her going for so long is her feelings of superiority towards humans. When she tried observing humans herself, she was disappointed by how weak they were, both physically and mentally. Since all homunculi created by Huey have accepted that they could never exist as normal humans because of the trauma they've all gone through, it gave her some strength when she realized they didn't meet her expectations or impressed her at all. In fact, it even cemented her opinion that she was better then them, and that there was nothing special or desirable about being human. So hanging onto this belief, she used it to survive her experiences in the lab. She refused to believe otherwise, because if anything challenged her view of the world, her coping method was to deny it exists. Something that she would be forced to change later on when she meets humans that are more powerful then the Lamia.

As far as death and violence are concerned, Rail is incredibly desensitized to both. This has a lot to do with her living a life of death and violence, since homunculi in Huey's lab have to fight and struggle for a right to survive. Whenever she's using her bombs, Rail normally doesn't care who gets injured or dies, and if she's under orders or has to fight for her life, she'll kill without question. While death and violence don't really bother her, she has a few things that will set her off - mainly anything that resembles a lab or scientists, or anything that even slightly reminds her of the trauma she went through in the lab. This is a pretty common reaction among all of Huey's homunculi - all of them associate scientists and lab work with pain and suffering, but Rail is the only one of Lamia who will react violently and do everything she can to get away. Just bringing up subject will cause her to feel disgusted and fearful. It's the quickest way possible to set her off, despite how she normally tries to keep her emotions hidden.

Abilities/Powers:

Due to how their bodies are and the experiments they went through in the lab, homunculi in Baccano! are built to take a lot more damage then normal humans and are able to withstand a lot, making them difficult to kill. Also after a certain point, all homunculi stop aging. While they're technically immortal, they can still die from being shot, strangled, etc. But as long as nothing fatal happens to them, they can actually live as long as they want.

For Rail's abilities, she's invulnerable to pain after she lost her sense of touch several years ago during an experiment. She's also incredibly skilled with bombs and knows how to make her own explosives.

Items/Weapons: Scarf, her fireproof coat, and the bombs she keeps her pocket.
Sample Entry:

So...what kinda Haven is this place supposed to be anyway? 'Cause this isn't what I think of when I hear the word "haven".

[These words are muttered by a scarred-up blonde child, who's currently glaring up at a billboard. Despite the sarcasm, Rail's still feeling disoriented and lost, even though she's been awake for about an hour now. A million questions are going through her head right now, and the most logical conclusion she's come to right now is that someone captured her.

But how and who remain the big mysteries. She's sure she would've known if someone came after her, since the last thing she remembered was talking to Nice. And wouldn't she know if she were being transported somewhere? Especially a place that looks like a total ghost town?

It made her very uneasy, and that uneasiness only continued to grow when she couldn't easily find her way out. And Nice and Jacuzzi didn't seem to be anywhere around either...

She forces the uneasiness out of her mind, replacing it with her usual arrogance instead.]

Ah well, it's fine. If it comes down to it, I'll just blow this place to pieces until I can make my own way out of here, easy! Haha!

Re: Martin Walker || Spec Ops: The Line

[personal profile] sandsofhell 2014-06-15 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
Background/History: Here
Personality: Walker has been shown to be a rather disturbed and emotionally unstable character as the game progressed. He is capable of moments of clarity and rationality; however as the pressure is put on he often has trouble in telling what is real and what is not. This could point towards the possibility that he has developed a version of Schizophrenia –a rather sever case as well. He often hears voices, which are not there, being broadcasted over a radio, which was broken. He sees dead bodies as being legitimately living persons. And last of all, he sees a dead man as being the cause for all of the atrocities that he had encountered.

Schizophrenia is not the only thing he possesses either. He also holds some very obvious anger issues that often pop up when in stressful situations. This problem could stem from a version of clinical depression brought about by post-traumatic stress disorder. It is also because of this PTSD, that Walker has developed his Schizophrenia in the first plan. Because his mind has to deal with so many emotionally scarring, and often illogical, decisions and scenes -it has decided to mix Walker’s imagination into how he perceives reality. Often times this also means that as reality becomes more and more warped, and things begin to spiral out of control, Walker begins to feel the heat. Thus as a result his mind begins to struggle with bringing things into focus, while still keeping to the reality that it had created for Walker. A reality where he and his team are in the right and the ones who are in the wrong are clearly definable.

Now when all is said and done, and everything is working out as Walker’s reality deems it to, he is often calm and professional. Avoiding the use of swear words and just generally acting like everything is as how it should be -granted that at the end of the game this also seems to be mixed in with his depression, as he had come so close to “completing suicide”. Or perhaps he had already been dead as the game seems to have pointed towards. Anyway, now onto his mode of depression; as stated Walker has seen some shit man. As things progress and the reality of the situation begins to slowly dawn on him and his sanity slips out the door, Walker’s emotional state begins to crumble. As he is, once again as stated, unable to come to grips with what he has seen, heard and done. Towards the end he is even given the choice between ending his life; either by pointing the gun towards his head or allowing the hallucination that had been plaguing him the entire time take his life.

Emotionally he is deader than Bambi’s mom; something that he covers up through his air of professionalism. He hides it behind his mask of professionalism rather well until a situation calls for it, even going as far as taking in a bit of humor from time to time to help complete the ensemble.

All in all I could probably go on and on about the complexity and how extremely well rounded his character is presented at times. But to cut a long story short, he is insane, off the walls bonkers and a war criminal that may or may not be put on trial for his actions. This is all depending on whether or not he is actually alive or dead.

Abilities/Powers: Physically Walker is a soft, walking tank. He has been shown to be more than capable of surviving things that would have normally killed most others; while still being able to dish the damage out as well. His training from Delta Force had ensured that every aspect of his being is that of a top tier predator. He has been showcased to think very quickly on his feet, have some basic knowledge of foreign languages, as well as martial arts and applications of various weaponary.
Items/Weapons: His combat knife, an AA12 and three drums of ammunition to go with it -because why not have a suicidal maniac have a gun in a horror game?
Sample Entry: Link to an ongoing thing.
Sample Entry Two: A garden, he had found a garden. Blinking several times and looking the place over with calculating eyes. There was no one here. It was quiet and felt lonely as the dying plants gave an air of death to the place. It was calming to Walker; there was no one here to talk to, no one to fight, at least as far as he could tell. He breathed in the musky air deeply. Perhaps there was a reason for there not being many people here? But no matter what, the calmness had overcome him.

Walking a bit further in, looking over the various, withered plants before sitting down next to a bush; he was feeling tired again. So very, very tired that he could scarcely breathe if not for the cool, dead air surrounding him, filling his lungs with dead plant matter and whatever else was floating around. No matter what, he has now officially deemed this place to be his most favorite of places here in this purgatory. Perhaps he could even work to bring a bit of life back to this place? Perhaps he could claim some of the plants for his own?

The possibilities were endless, and somewhere in his mind a voice whispered to him, they were back. And they wanted their commands from him. He does not deserve their loyalty as he is the one who had killed them. So, he shut them out again with considerable strength.

He felt even more tired now than before…. A garden to care for would be nice, Walker decided. It would give him something to focus on, something to care for and protect. A reason to keep going perhaps; at the very least he does not have to worry over plants whispering poisonous words in his ears or distorting his vision.

Personality:
    ❝. . .Live to your fullest.❞

At first glance, to view Saitou in his general personality, it could be concluded he tries to conform to what would be considered a 'model example'. He's quiet, rarely speaking unless spoken, polite to a fault ( even with his enemies—well, most of his enemies... ), and he's calm and difficult to anger, living according to the code he's pledged to so strictly that there are never any gray areas. He can be cold and he can be ruthless, no doubt ( and he is quite cold to strangers, in particular—especially ones who are deemed a threat to the Shinsengumi ), but he comes off more apathetic to the world around him more than either of the others. The apathy, however, would be easily noticed by someone who is not on the point-end of his blade and making a general attempt to simply observe him that it's not actually out of lack of care so much as it is for image out of respect.

Saitou takes his role both as a member of the Shinsengumi and as a person who has chosen the sword as a way of life seriously to a point appearance is just as important as actual execution. It can be misleading in terms of seeing what type of person he really is, but this effort to always show balance in temperament and in choice actually demonstrates just how passionate he can be. His willingness to display such a front comes from many things, but one of the most critical would be out the respect to those that have become important to him and given him meaning in his own life to begin with. People like Kondou Isami and Hijikata Toshizou, who accepted him when no one else would. The amount of gratitude, admiration and respect he has for these individuals is shown in the only way Saitou knows how: and that's how he presents himself to the rest of the world and represents the way of life he lives by.

However, it's also not that difficult to get to see various other sides of him if one were to spend time around him. Granted, he prefers to be alone in his free time, often only seen with Okita Souji ( the Shinsengumi captain of the 1st Unit ) for greater lengths of time than the period of a meal or meeting, but he is less intentionally aloof and more by nature a quiet and shy individual.

In fact, he's nothing like one would expect the third division captain of the Shinsengumi to be like when his guard is let down. He's shy, but always polite to a fault and is often the listener in a conversation rather than the speaker. When he does speak, however, he is short and to the point as to not mince words. He is also well listened to and he has gained a reputation of conveying important insights and concerns. He also never complains and is quite strict in upholding the rules, making him a little less fun than some of the other captains despite being the second youngest of the group. He's also very kind, his loyalty and his passion for things strong. The ones he's come to care about mean a great deal to him and he never forges these relationships expecting the same in return. He's very protective of his own, as well—not just his friends, but his men, too. While he won't go out of his way to cause an issue, he won't let innocent people simply be harmed, either.

Perhaps the easiest way to sum Saitou up here would be his execution of balance in everything he does, but without allowing true neutrality to create moral ambiguity. Justice, honor, humility, respect—all of those are important to him and weigh in his decisions in day to day life. And when in his more personal life, he's a simple person to be around. Too simple for some, but he's never been good at changing for other people and Hijikata has done nothing but make that even more difficult to expect otherwise.

❝By drawing your sword, I take it you're ready to die for it.❞

    GENERAL II.
As much as Saitou strives to live a balanced and honorable way, everyone has their faults that make otherwise simple goals difficult to actually achieve.
"You can't even think for yourself, can you? You're nothing more than a puppet!"
"Perhaps I am. Doesn't matter. I can think of no better way to give my life than in service of what I believe in."

—Kazama Chikage & Saitou Hajime, Chapter 4.

While Saitou's words are confident and grounded in his faith, Kazama Chikage's words do ring true, in a sense, as well. The most troublesome nature of this weakness may very well be if Saitou himself is aware of it or not. As elaborated below in his relationship section with the Shinsengumi vice-commander, Hijikata Toshizou, Saitou is quite used to being told he follows blindly. However, he's also shown that he can and will lead when necessary. But, the thing that Kazama's words ring true for are not necessarily whether he can or cannot think for himself. It's moreso a question of if any of his ideals and goals could be technically called his own.

It's true that he lives out his choices to the best he can, but it's also very true he is who he is because of meeting Kondou Isami and Hijikata Toshizou. And how he lives is the embodiment of what Hijikata strives to prove—that anyone can be what they wish to be so long as they want it bad enough to get it. But, it's arguable whether Saitou does much in life in terms of wanting. He's very selfless and he puts all his efforts forward, never doing anything with less than his best. However, in getting caught up representing someone else's goals, it seems he lacks any of his own. There's nothing out there he strives for in life personally, nothing he wants. And when he does want something, he finds it inappropriate to want because it's not necessary to be of service to Shinsengumi.

Which wouldn't be so bad if for the fact that once Saitou's stoicism is broken past, he is very capable of intense emotions that he has not familiarized himself with enough to properly get a handle on. He's hard to break, but under there is the capability to truly hate, to fear, to desire. He becomes reckless and impulsive, making choices with no consideration so long as immediate gratification may be had ( such as when he's granted the choice of taking the ochimizu in his fight with Kazama—his need to protect Chizuru, to protect his men, to not fail the orders he was given—it's also done in a direct attempt to survive in order to simply strike back and kill Kazama. For Saitou, Kazama did the impossible and the overall result that befalls him in regards to Kazama demonstrates a very dangerous flaw. Even long past the event itself, Saitou is quick to lose his general sense when it comes to Kazama, unable to calm the poison and rage that boils his blood and in his heart.

He's also dangerously fearful of the idea of disappointing Hijikata or losing his respect/acceptance. It's almost childlike in its nature, but if the first person to accept him were to ever turn around and reject him, that would unravel just about everything he's become since then.

Another weakness he has is he overworks himself, a little more than hypocritical in that aspect ( but, what can you do... ), to the point of being detriment to his health. In his route in game, he overworks himself to the point of collapsing ( something even Hijikata in his crazy work ethics didn't manage to do in his route—but I can also chalk that up to Hijikata being able to handle overworking himself than Saitou because that's just the type of person his is).

Finally, he has a really big issue of understanding his own self-worth. He's willing to die to protect those he cares about or what he's fighting for, but has a difficult time with the idea that his own well-being is just as important, especially to some of the people that matter most to him.

    ❝That's why it's comfortable staying beside him.❞

    RELATIONSHIP: Hijikata Toshizou.
To understand Saitou's seemingly over-the-top loyalty to the Shinsengumi and his willingness to obey any orders, the relationship between Hijikata and Saitou has to be taken into account because it ( along with Kondou Isami's kindness ) is responsible for such. More than to the Shinsengumi, Saitou is mostly loyal to Hijikata first and foremost, and in his eyes there is nothing blind about why he does so. He follows the other because Hijikata was the first person to tell him there was nothing wrong with being left-handed; nothing wrong with being different. Hijikata was impressed with him for who he was and what he had to offer, without prejudice, and for someone who suffered prejudice over his left-handedness ( and always had a difficult time understanding what was wrong with it himself ) constantly ( including being accused of breaking rules simply by being left-handed and thus invalidated ), it has a weighted impact that he's carried with him since that day. For the person who could accept him as who he was and what he had to offer—to encourage him to be exceptional by being different rather than decent in conforming to the norms—wishing to support him and follow him isn't that much to offer in terms of gratitude. Especially since with Hijikata and the rest of the Shinsengumi, he has the acceptance he's wished for. And Saitou spends a great much of his time wishing for very few things in his life, but Hijikata's constant approval is one of the few and it tops that list, as well.

However, Saitou doesn't consider his loyalty and willingness to perform orders without question as blind, mainly because of two reasons:

1.It's only towards Hijikata that he demonstrates this. For example, when Serizawa Kamo, who at the time is above Hijikata in terms of rank in their group, commands Saitou to cut the hair of some dancers due to them angering him over their unwillingness to comply with his demands, Saitou actually hesitates and is heard by Ibuki questioning under his breath as to whether he should or should not obey. It's only once Hijikata reiterates the command at Saitou that he complies with it without further hesitance, but Ibuki notes the hesitance is quite clear prior to Hijikata speaking up.

      2. It's because he trusts Hijikata to make the right decisions and he has yet to feel Hijikata is making the wrong decisions. He hold extremely high respect for the older man but it is seen ( from where he's being pulled from in his canon point here, even ) that he is not willing to let even Hijikata force him into something he truly doesn't want to do. Granted, there's a lot more to it than that ( because Hijikata is a lot more to him than a commanding officer), but it still demonstrates quite well that he is anything but blind.

He has difficultly defying Hijikata or crossing him, but it's out of respect and not out of fear. And keep that respect, Hijikata has to continuously show such trust and respect makes sense to hold onto.

That said, it's also true that since these are things he has never felt the need to question or divert from that he can be a be more or less compared to a puppy in the way it will follow its master, regardless of what happens. It's blind adoration and the need to be noticed and accepted, to potential fault but it's also only because he's never been exposed to anything to make him know anything else. Even when he doesn't understand Hijikata's reasoning, he trusts him enough to have faith that it's the correct action.

On a more personal level, he has a great fondness of Hijikata but not the familiarity or closeness that he feels makes him any more than a subordinate. So, to him, it's really one-sided ( but he doesn't care at all, because it's to be expected ). Like Kondou is to Souji, he suffers from hero-worship taken a little too far since while he's not willing to stand by and let a man he adores and respects make awful decisions that would jeopardize his reputation and that of the Shinsengumi, but he's also willing without a second thought to follow after him and die for him in the process—even when it's logically seen before it begins that it will be a losing battle.

❝Well, well. You're much better than I expected!
I've never seen anyone about to stay on their feet after taking a hit from me.❞

❝You, too, are the first to not be taken down by my initial attack.❞

RELATIONSHIP: Okita Souji.
He finds a lot of comfort and complacency remaining at Hijikata's side, but as mentioned before, despite everything he feels he considers their official relationship impersonal. Unlike Souji and Kondou who also share a close and affectionate relationship, Saitou doesn't share that with the vice-commander and so there are things he can't expect nor would he ever attempt to expect in terms of their relationship.

And he's fine with that, especially because he's found what he can't have with the person he admires most in someone that is different and yet so very like him. For Saitou, Souji makes him feel normal, but to a point that it's casual and everyday interaction. Souji's someone who understands him—and even on the occasions he does not, makes no attempt to invade his more personal boundaries—and accepts him for everything he is and everything he is not. They don't need to talk, they just seem to understand the right way to handle one another through silence and words aren't necessary. And that is a comfort he doesn't receive from anyone else and no one can replace Souji in that manner.

Both of them have rather warped perceptions on their purpose in life and their value, both willing to live as and die as weapons; for Souji it's Kondou, for Saitou it's Hijikata. In order to make their hopes and dreams—their goals—become a reality, they're willing to take to the shadows and do what they must to protect them and drive them forward in the only support they feel they can give, which is via their blades. Of course, because they both think the same way, they never criticize or question one another. It's who they are and that mutual understanding gives them a very strong and real bond.

Socially, however, they can also be seen as what are more typical displays of affection in friendship. Saitou gets teased by the other quite often ( but no one is even close to being victimized as much as Hijikata is in that category, so... ) but tends to take it in stride, even if in a dull sort of way by not humoring him. Their personalities also do very well to fuel one another into ambitions and desires not normally sparked by others around them. In particular, they're very competitive with one another and greatly enjoy the challenge they present to one another. Before they met, they'd never known what it was to be challenged and when faced with the obstacle of an opponent who wouldn't go down in one strike, it flared a very excited nature in the both of them at the opportunity suddenly available. When they train, it's very obvious that while they fight to win, they also fight to never let themselves fail the other in terms of being worthy of the other's attention. It's healthy competition ( something being emotionally healthy in this canon is pretty rare, so this is a BIG DEAL ) and keeps them oriented with some type of purpose ( even if a very 'silly' one comparatively ) beyond making themselves in living killing machines.

❝There's no need to panic if the first strike doesn't succeed.
A skilled swordsman will think of the next step.❞

MISC.
Saitou's loves cats. As in really really loves them and is destined to become a cat lady. Actually, if he already could be one, he would, but he can't so he's going to have to wait a little longer.

He also likes things that are cute, although he's very shy to admit such.
Abilities/Powers:
Physical Skills. There are discrepancies as to which style his sword skills are learned from historically, but since it's not information that is going to affect his abilities one way versus another ( especially without use of a weapon freely ), the only thing that is really needed to be mentioned was he was referred to as a master rank. He's one of the best swordsmen in the Shinsengumi and the fact that he's left-handed makes him unusually more unpredictable than normal.

In Hakuouki, Saitou is shown to be particularly skilled in Iaijutsu, which is "a combative sword-drawing art". It is not labeled as necessarily aggressive like many other combative arts, however, as it also is used as a defensive style through the use of counter-attacks. Saitou is more often shown demonstrating the offensive side of iaijutsu, particularly in his attempts to school Ibuki Ryunosuke in the manner of how it's performed and why it is performed the way it is.

In terms of martial arts, Saitou's style is said to most likely be Sekiguchi Ryu ( which as an overall style outside of jujutsu includes iaijutsu under its disciplines ). How good he is as hand-to-hand isn't elaborated on, but I'll assume he's better than average and quite able to take care of himself in most encounters if necessary, unless facing a particularly skilled opponent.

    Supernatural Abilities ( rasetsu ).
Saitou's taken an elixir known as the ochimizu in his world. The ochimizu was more or less intended to create super soldiers for war. Soldiers that could self-heal and have superior strength, speed, and stamina. However, like most experiments, the ochimizu isn't without its 'side-effects'; the individual starts to crave for the consumption of blood and the longer they resist, the more likely they are to fall into insanity. Of course, in the past most individuals who take the ochimizu have gone insane without much ability to retain their humanity, making them into rampaging indiscriminate killers that need to be disposed of. The first rasetsu to give hint that the ( at least, immediate ) onset of madness was not absolute was a ronin that managed to lure Saitou and Ibuki Ryunosuke into a false security that he was not the rogue rasetsu they were looking for. However, the ronin succumbed shortly after due to his own blood being shed, thus revealing his identity and was disposed of.

Serizawa Kamo took the ochimizu in retaliation to a group that was sent to assassinate him. Serizawa was the first to show further potential with the ochimizu, in which he was able to retain his state of mind and when he lost it was able to be reasoned back into regaining some control ( by Ibuki's efforts ) before he was taken down successfully by Hijikata.

While experimentation of the ochimizu was both a secret within the ranks of the Roshigumi/Shinsengumi and being done at the orders of the shogunate, test subjects were limited to those who violated the Shinsengumi Code via means punishable by death ( which was usually desertion or treason ). However, as time passed, the ochimizu was eventually taken by some of the captains of the Shinsengumi for various reasons.

Like other rasetsu, Saitou does have enhanced vitals ( superior strength, stamina, dexterity, agility ) to that of a regular human but also has the ability to automatically heal from injuries. He does suffer from the bloodlust, however, and the longer he staves off feeding on blood, the more likely he is to snap. He pushes himself to the greatest possible limit in terms of drinking blood, only doing so when absolutely necessary, but you won't see him flinching in disgust if he gets some during a fight.

Like the drinking of blood, other weaknesses of being a rasetsu are also very vampire-like. For one, sunlight drains them quickly, making them weaker in daylight and requiring extra exertion to complete even a 'normal' routine, especially with the enhanced desire to sleep and be nocturnal, instead. Silver is also able to nullify their regenerative abilities, making wounds created with such as dangerous as any weapon would be to a human and requiring similar recovery time.

The only way to kill them ( if not with a silver weapon and having them bleed out ) is to stab them through the heart or behead them.

While they do have supernatural abilities like vampires ( and like the demons from their world ), the ochimizu does not grant them these powers. Instead, it feeds on the individual's lifeforce, concentrating it together to allow things such as rapid recovery and to be able to execute the superhuman qualities they demonstrate. As a result, using their rasetsu form shortens their lifespan, as it's only taking the individuals potential and concentrating it together to do things superior for a shorter period of time rather than live out the length of time they were originally intended to have. In addition, that amount used and consumed each time varies between individuals, as well.

When in his rasetsu form, his eyes turn red and his hair white. It can be brought on consciously or due to withdrawal from blood taking over and threatening his ability to control himself from seeking out blood indiscriminately.
**note.3** Although at some point between the events at Toba-Fushimi and temporarily taking over the responsibilities of the Shinsengumi for Hijikata Saitou also becomes a rasetsu the complete details of why he did and how are not noted. The only thing that is clear is that Saitou didn't do it with Hijikata's knowledge, as the other was stunned when he found out. In Saitou's route, the events play out slightly different than Hijikata's, so his reasons for taking the ochimizu there conflict. Timelinewise, I'm going to assume that by his canon point ( which is a month after Toba-Fushimi ) that he's taken the ochimizu, although I have no yet quite decided on the reasoning, thus I'll be keeping it vague unless it becomes a key point necessary to be revealed and then I'll have to come up with something that makes sense with everything.

not that it matters because until he's told to do otherwise, he'll continue as one would be expected to on where he speaks and how.

for this particular topic, however, he supposes it can't hurt to use this method. besides, it's not as if he's going to waste time looking for someone to ask in person. it's very clear he's displeased, from the rather stiff way he sets the two items he's holding down on the kitchen counter.

I fail to understand how this makes any logical sense. I was assured that this... Jack Frost / Rise of the Guardians / Reserved

[personal profile] icicular 2014-06-16 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
Background/History: Canon / Character

Personality:

At first blush, Jack Frost comes off as a mischievous, trouble-making teenager who also just happens to have been made immortal by the Man in the Moon. For hundreds of years, the reason for his transformation remains a mystery to Jack himself, and the fact that no humans ever see him turns Jack cynical and pessimistic. However, this coarse exterior is not Jack’s true center. His true center, he discovers, is the magic of fun, and he finds the most meaning in his life once he becomes a Guardian.

Jack’s affinity for fun is partly what gives him his mischievous nature. He loves to play practical jokes and make people laugh, and he loves to laugh himself. Jack isn’t exactly carefree, however; his centuries of loneliness and confusion have made him cynical and antisocial. (He’s a loner, Pee Wee, a rebel.) He can be sarcastic and enjoys having a laugh at someone else’s expense - provided, at least by his judgment, that they deserve it (read: Bunnymund). And while he seems pretty proud of his ice abilities, Jack doesn’t initially see himself as Guardian material at all. It’s only when he regains his memories of his human life and children start believing in him that Jack really sees himself capable of becoming something greater than an impish ice spirit.

For his antisocial and mischievous behavior, Jack is never cruel. He is especially kind to children, even before they are able to see him, stemming from his fondness for his sister. In fact, Jack’s sacrificial act in saving his sister is the defining moment in which the Man in the Moon chooses him to become a Guardian. Even more striking is that Jack makes a game out of it, encouraging his sister to have fun even as they stand perilously on thin, cracking ice. It is his commitment to protecting children and replacing fear with fun that makes Jack such a powerful Guardian. Once the children begin to believe in Jack, his true nature begins to manifest itself in earnest as he leads them in battle against Pitch by using the purest element of childhood: fun.

As he grows into his role as a Guardian, Jack begins to act more responsible and hopeful. He knows who he needs to be and what he needs to do, and while he doesn’t shake off his mischievous nature - it’s too tightly bound to his way of being - he realizes the value of working with others and fighting for the people who need him. That’s not to say Jack can’t be discouraged. Jack can be easily persuaded by fear, and is even somewhat gullible. Even so, Jack is quite clever and a quick thinker, and is the one who is ultimately able to lead the charge against Pitch.

Abilities/Powers:

Jack Frost is a Guardian, a (relatively) immortal being whose main purpose is to protect children and promote childhood. As his name implies, Jack Frost is the Guardian associated with winter, and as such, he has potent magical ice powers. Jack is able to create and manipulate ice around him, create snow, frost window panes, turn water into ice, and even fly by manipulating the wind. Jack controls most of his magical abilities through his crook-shaped staff, but he is able to use magic without it as well. Aside from his magical abilities, Jack is nimble and light on his feet, while his Guardian status makes it so he doesn’t need to eat or sleep.

Items/Weapons:

His staff. THAT IS ALL.

Sample Entry:

[ Oookay, so after much insistence from the locals, Jack finally decides to give his cell phone a go. Personally, he thinks carrying it around is clunky and annoying, but it seemed important to everyone else around. Honestly, it still freaks him out that everyone here can see and hear him, but one problem at a time.

Current problem: correctly using the video function. The feed is currently displaying a nice close-up of a thumb. ]

Great. One day in town and it’s already broken. Not exactly a new record for me, but…

[ OH HEY there’s a flashing light under his thumb. Maaaaybe…? ]

...Look. I don’t even know if this thing is working right. What, am I just supposed to wait until someone talks back?

[ This is so not his thing. Not the technology or public introductions or, you know, talking to people. He groans. ]

Never mind. Just forget it. You’ll know my name soon enough.

[ That, at least, he would make sure of. ]

Sample Entry Two:

Jack was pretty sure he could blame the Man in the Moon for this one, too. All things considered, his “reassignment” wasn’t entirely shocking. Haven, if any place did, definitely needed a Guardian. Even if there weren’t many children around, there was plenty of fear, and he was willing to bet he could still do something about that.

It wouldn’t be easy, however, not on his own. He didn’t even know where to start. He still spent most of his nights perched on the highest stable structures he could find, staring up at the moon, waiting for answers that never come. It wasn’t going to be like the last time, was it? Waiting for three hundred years before destiny gave him the time of day?

No. He wouldn’t wait for an answer. He would do something, anything he could to bring some joy into the lives of the people trapped here with him. That, after all, was what being a Guardian was all about.

It was time to start a snowball fight.

Background/History: her page on the wiki

Personality: Chiyo is a very mysterious girl that Seto meets on his journey, and very little is known about her. Initially, by appearance alone, you would think she looks like a pretty and formal girl. However, she comes across as cold and mistrusting, unwilling to allow Seto to progress further in the hotel she haunts. She's reluctant to be of assistance to others, and has trouble believing in others, especially if it's someone that she's only just met. You're a stranger, she doesn't know you, and thus has no reason to want to trust or help you. What you do is your own business, so she would prefer it if you just left her be. If you want to gain her trust, then you have to prove that you are someone reliable and worth putting her faith in, even if these "tests" might just be mischievous attempts to waste your time and deter you from getting any closer.

However, under her cold exterior, in truth, she was a sad and lonely woman. The true reason why she acts the way she does is because she did not want anyone to get close to her and the room she was guarding that held her body, acting as a protector over it. When she was alive, she was once a bright young girl in love, engaged and soon to be wed to a man she dearly loved. However, her happiness was taken away from her due to the worldwide tragedy caused by the Glass Cage Project, as nearly all life on the planet was wiped out. Despite surviving the initial event and gaining the ability to move as a ghost outside of her body, her loved one ceased to be and she thus never left the hotel they died in. Thus, drifting somewhere between life and death, she has no choice but to stay and dwell with her memories while guarding the room that held her body.

Thankfully, Seto was able to gain her trust and return to her the wedding ring she lost during that horrible time, which helps remind her of the happiness she had with her loved one before they died, which grants her peace. As such, upon recognizing one's sincerity and kindness, she is now able to open up and become more friendlier. Despite her young appearance, she proves to be very wise, saying that, despite how short and cruel life can be, it's important to hold onto the happiness that you gain as a result. Cherish the good memories, not the bad ones like she had done before. Due to her manner of speech during moments like these, she almost seems motherly, wanting to encourage the young people she's met to keep pushing forward and to do their best to live, and not become sick and bitter like her as a result.

It's doubtful that she'll now be trusting people right from the get-go, and while she's not too cheerful or extremely nice, that doesn't mean she's cruel either. She's just a girl that's lost somewhere between heaven and earth, drifting along until she can finally pass on in peace.

Abilities/Powers: Technically speaking, Chiyo didn't start out as a ghost--she's more like the astral projection of an old woman who was bedridden after the events that led to the end of human civilization. You see, when Glass Cage happened, while some people immediately died, others did not. Chiyo was one of those few who managed to survive the incident. Those who survived or were born after the incident could be granted the power of "empathy", an ability that should have enabled someone to connect with people without words, immediately knowing their true feelings and being able to see their memories. However, using this power caused many of those people to die in their sleep after using it. Chiyo instead appears to have figured out a different way of using it though by astral projecting outside of her body in a more ghostly form. She wasn't dead, but she wasn't really "alive" either, simply existing outside of her body and left to simply watch over it, doing what little she could to keep it from becoming an actual corpse.

Despite this, she has all the traits of a ghost such as floating, making herself invisible when she so chooses, and moving through walls and other objects, things of that nature. It also appears that she can manipulate her appearance, choosing to look like a young girl rather than the way her actual body is now that of an old woman, or at one point when Seto first meets her, appearing as if she is holding hands with silhouettes of paper dolls. She is not a malicious entity, however, so she does not normally do things that would be able to bring harm to others, mostly just being a little spooky. And, of course, she can't really die under conventional means, considering that she is practically a ghost. However, due to this form, this means that she doesn't eat or sleep, among the many other comforts of being a living human.

Items/Weapons: Her clothing; in particular, a purple kimono, the two orange flower hair-clips in her hair, and a silver ring.
