Applications Two

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED!
The next application opening date is Friday 16th January, 7pm EST.
The next application processing date is Friday 23rd January, 7pm EST.

IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE

We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.

We now have a test drive community at [community profile] haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.

While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

To see what we are looking for:
Canon Characters:

Character Name: Daisuke Tatsumi
Canon: Aphorism
Canon Point: Chapter 56, after their role in 'Country'
Background/History: General Summary
The TV Tropes summary is the closest summary I can find about the general canon, but there doesn’t seem to be a more specific wiki entry for Tatsumi that has a more detailed summary of his participation in the manga so I’ll be explaining that as best as I can instead. I hope this is all right. Also, this contains spoilers for anyone who hasn’t read the manga.

On the first day of classes, most students would worry about meeting their new teachers and the amount of homework they might get. For the more positive ones, they look forward to seeking out new friends and forming a great school life. For members of Naraka High, their initial worry is surviving to see the next day. For Class 4? They had to endure Tomonaga’s reign on top of that.

Tomonaga, who had acquired the ability ‘Steal’, stole their homeroom teacher’s eyes and pushed him out of a window, catching the attention of the class immediately. Right after, he ordered them to sit down, and anyone who is too slow or tried to ran were killed or amputated. He told them that if they followed him, he’ll do his best to protect them, but if they don’t, he’ll let them get killed. With this, Class 4—including Tatsumi-- became a slave to his command. Tomonaga told them never to tell the other classes what was going on, leaving the rest of the school unaware of the problems inside their class.

Since that incident, Class 4 can be seen banding together at all times, even to the point that Hinata commented that they were strangely organized. However, they have also been executing more and more violent actions as the school year goes by. During one of God’s Blight, ‘Water’, Tatsumi along with two of his classmates were assigned to convince a fellow schoolmate, Shie, to fight during the Blight as her ability, ‘Fire’ was the only thing that could defeat Water. However, Shie being traumatized from the scarring she got on the first day due to inexperience in using her powers, refused and told them they could die for all she cares, prompting Tatsumi to lose his cool and start kicking her door. They eventually left her alone, though the next day they ambushed her before the Blight and tied her to the center of the quadrangle so she would have no choice but to fight. Ryou, who had the power of ‘Target’, made sure to have Shie targeted by the Blight at all times, making it impossible for her to escape.

With the help of Aya, Shie’s roommate, they both defeated Water, however Aya gets killed at the last second due to losing her guard, to the horror of the other classes. Tatsumi, after seeing this, showed remorse at their actions, but followed the rest of Class 4 nonetheless. Hinata, who had known it was Class 4’s doing since the beginning, decided to put an end to it by cornering Tatsumi in the bathroom to drag him out for interrogation. Hinata tricked him by saying that murderers would receive death penalty after school, and all accomplices would be imprisoned, scaring Tatsumi—who had only wanted to graduate. However, he also promised Tatsumi that, since his sister is a government official and was the head of the school, he can get away clean if he confessed. Tatsumi reluctantly admits that Tomonaga had ordered them to force Shie to fight with the promise that Hinata would make sure that Tomonaga gets the death sentence. However, this was all a lie to get him to confess. When Hinata tried to prod more information from him, Tatsumi refused to speak more in fear, and was instead given Hinata’s room number if he ever wished to approach him and tell him the rest.

Tomonaga immediately finds out about Tatsumi ratting him out and swiftly took out his vocal chords, rendering him mute. In despair, Tatsumi finally breaks and cries before Mikotogawa finds him, eventually admitting to Mikotogawa what happened to him, to her surprise, and that he had finally reached his limit in pretending to follow Tomonaga’s orders. Mikotogawa, upon finding out that Tatsumi plans on telling Hinata everything, goes along with him despite his protest, having reached her limit as well. After confessing everything, they offered Mikotogawa and Tatsumi shelter among their rooms to avoid Tomonaga’s wrath. They agreed, and Mikotogawa told the girls she’ll move her things the next day while Tatsumi stayed with Hinata and Rokudou. The next day, however, Class 4 found out about Tatsumi’s betrayal and Tomonaga had dealt with Mikotogawa, stealing her eyes so that she can never see Tatsumi again, prompting more despair and anger from Tatsumi. Once again, they tried to contact Hinata’s sister, but was sidetracked when the school nurse asked Class 1 to go for physical examination, leaving behind Tatsumi and the rest in their room. This turned out to be a hoax, however, as Tobari, who had the ability ‘Manipulation’, had used the teacher as a distraction so Tatsumi and Mikotogawa can be taken.

They searched for them around the school but eventually found Tomonaga with them. Rokudou, who had been the closest, was asked to join them but immediately refused, prompting Tomonaga to knock him down. Before he could kill them though, Hinata was able to get Katou, who had the ability ‘Erase’, to get rid of all three of them so Tomonaga can’t kill them. Furious, Tomonaga started looking for the members of Class 1. When he found them sneaking out food from the cafeteria so they can hide out in their rooms, he quickly stole Rokudou’s heart and killed him, stomping on it in disgust when he saw it still beating. Because of this, Hinata furiously demanded that his sister do something about the situation, to which he was dismissed with the promise that they’ll send someone in ten days, which Hinata found too long to let Tomonaga loose in the school for.

The next day Ryou warns them not to get in Tomonaga’s way, putting a target on Hinata so everyone will turn on him instead as a warning. That night, everyone keeps their guard up and couldn’t sleep in case Tomonaga made a move, but were caught by surprise when Rokudou returns to the school alive. Rokudou, who had the ability ’Change’, had a mysterious alter ego who happened to be able to do impossible things like reviving again for a limited time, but had to move quickly to find his heart. When he found it completely unusable, he went to seek out Tomonaga to steal his heart, prompting an all out war between Class 4 and the involved members of the other classes.

They then captured the members of Class 4 sent to ambush them and prompted Tomonaga’s location from them, but Tatsumi was caught by Tobari’s ‘Manipulation’ and immediately started chasing Mino around to kill him while the rest of their team scattered to look for Tomonaga. During this, they forgot about God’s Blight, which suddenly appeared and caused them all to be put in groups to find out how to escape. Tatsumi ends up with Hinata and Hirosue, another member of Class 4, who tells them that eventually Tomonaga will kill them anyway even without the Blight. When Hinata finds a pool of unknown gunk, Hirosue kicks Tatsumi in, making Hinata panic as Tatsumi wasn’t floating back up. He eventually surfaces with hands pulling him down, but was not in any immediate danger otherwise. Hinata threatens Hirosue not to do that again before they continue on to meet the guardian of that Blight. Given two options – fight or stay put—the guys chose to stay put by Hinata’s instruction, only for them to be given an illusion of themselves suffering gruesome deaths. When they failed to react to it violently, the guardian lets them go. During this time, Rokudou, who was teamed with Tomonaga, kills him and steals his heart so that his other self could live, freeing Class 4 from his reign in the process.

Once the Blight ended and everyone was free, Mikotogawa was given a new set of glass eyes, much to Tatsumi’s comfort, though they still remained mute and blind respectively. During the next few Blights, Tatsumi doesn’t play a big role and mostly comes off as support until the ‘Country’ Blight. Here, they experienced another Seperation type of Blight where they were matched off in 3s, and Tatsumi ends up in the same team as Tobari and Mikotogawa. He spends the first day defending Mikotogawa with no idea where Tobari is, and tries to get his cooperation before the next Country Blight occurs. However, Tobari refused to cooperate, much to Tatsumi’s frustration, leaving them to figure out how to solve it on their own.

Note: These are spoilers as the chapters have not been translated.

When ‘Country’ occurs again, he manages to find the location they needed to go in order to clear it with Mikotogawa. During this time, the enemy captures Tobari and experiments with him, turning him into a giant monster that kills all of the enemies. Tobari, who had been experiencing hallucinations of Tomonaga since his death, finally convinces himself that he wasn’t crazy and the reason he was the only one to see him was because he is the only one of Class 4 who would follow him. Everyone else would die except him when Tomonaga arrives. He then tells Tatsumi that he has known about him since middle school, as they take the same station home, and has always found his constant chattering with his friends annoying. When Tomonaga steals his vocal chords, Tobari admits to rejoicing because it means he’ll stop being noisy, but then wonders if he was just jealous of the fact that Tatsumi had friends and he did not. When he finds Mikotogawa there, he gets annoyed as he holds a grudge against her from when they were originally fighting Class 4, as Mikotogawa had tried to stop Tobari’s ‘Manipulation’ of Tatsumi by using ‘Conquer’, where he had to obey her no matter what.

Tatsumi starts fighting with Tobari at this point when Tobari decides that since they are traitors, Tomonaga will be pleased with them dead. Tatsumi then remembers Hinata’s advice, that the monster of this level, Tobari, would essentially be dead, has only his heart as the weakness. Hinata breaks through Tobari’s shell to hit his heart, but it has no effect, making him panic. Mikotogawa, who could not see the fight but can hear it, tries to help by using ‘Conquer’ once more, but Tobari anticipates her this time and breaks her arm, making Tatsumi furious. When he notices that Tobari’s original body is hanging limply off the monster, he aims for the human heart instead, successfully killing Tobari this time.

Daisuke Tatsumi | Aphorism | Reserved

[personal profile] silenceofthelance 2014-01-24 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: When first introduced, one would think that Tatsumi can be demanding and violent, especially when one decides to oppose him, just like the rest of Class 4. In truth, a large part of that comes from the fact that like the rest of the class, they were all afraid of a guy named Tomonaga, and are constantly on edge because of it.

For the most part Tatsumi is very polite, if not a little frank unless he’s under pressure. He likes getting direct to the point and doesn’t bother mincing his words. However, that doesn’t mean that he’s not tactful, just that he doesn’t waste time if he could help it. Despite his initial treatment towards Shie, he’s not the type to resort to drastic measures unless it really requires it. In fact, he didn’t approve of his classmates forcing Shie to fight by binding her as the target of their enemy’s attack, and thought they should’ve found another way. He was the only one who showed any remorse for the death of Aya, who had tried to help protect Shie only to be killed unexpectedly. He thinks that a large part of that is because of Tomonaga’s influence on them, however he did not vocally oppose it either and even half-heartedly tried to defend their decision from Hinata.

Again, a large part of this decision comes from the fact that like everyone in the class, Tatsumi was deathly afraid of Tomonaga. Tomonaga, who had the ability Steal, had killed several people in front of them on their first day by stealing body parts, and anyone who opposes him gets dealt in the same way. To avoid getting killed, Class 4 did his bidding and grouped together each time, even if they did not approve of the outcome.

While Tatsumi is patient and can endure well enough under pressure, he does have a limit. In fact, it’s because of this limit that he caved in to Hinata’s manipulation and finally told him about whom their leader was. Tatsumi can only handle pressure in moderation, and most of the time keeps his cool in front of his peers, which is probably why he is one of the ones who gets sent to talk to others as representatives of the class. However, when he does lose his cool, he’s prone to be reactive and may kick doors or throw notebooks down on the ground. This usually occurs with student confrontations though, most probably because of the frustration of dealing with people who do not want to cooperate in situations that could very well kill them all. When in despair, he has no qualms about crying. When frustrated, he can throw a tantrum. When petrified, he stutters and shakes. When embarrassed, he turns really red. Even after losing his voice, it’s easy to tell when he’s surprised, confused or downright angry just by the sudden shift of his expressions. However, for the most part when nothing major is occurring to him, he has a very passive and stoic expression and doesn’t seem to get fazed by much.

One could say, in lieu of his actions, that Tatsumi is a very self-serving character. Unlike Tomonaga who would kill others to get them to obey him, or Hinata who would manipulate others to get what he wants, Tatsumi does this by doing what he thinks would benefit him more. With Tomonaga, following him meant that he could live another day longer. With Hinata, ratting out on Tomonaga means he avoids getting imprisoned after school and may open the path for Tomonaga to be arrested and hopefully receive death penalty. He always weighs his options and chooses the lesser evil, especially in a setting where ‘good option’ was a rare thing. While normally not a malicious person, Tatsumi does feel resentment and bitterness, and can be harsh when this happens. Just like how he called Shie a traitor and let Class 4 go with the plan despite his reservations about it, or wanting Tomonaga dead after all he’s done. The only exception to this is Mikotogawa, who he is extremely protective of. It is safe to assume that as long as you’re someone close to him, he will do his best to protect you. With Mikotogawa, who had absolutely no combat ability or spell, Tatsumi always made sure to defend her. Out of everyone in the school, he has only shown true loyalty to Mikotogawa and vice versa, but trusts Rokudou and his friends after they had helped them.

Tatsumi is also pretty smart and obedient, quick to listen to people’s advice and instructions and follow it as much as possible. With Hinata, he has no issues about following his orders, even if it means having to pretend that he was not freaking out when he saw himself chopped in half in an illusion. (Not to say he wasn’t freaked out, just that he managed to stay still despite the horror.) When stuck in a difficult situation, he is quick to analyze it and cross-reference it with things that he learned from others, drawing conclusions that have kept him and Mikotogawa alive during fights. He doesn’t always think ahead though, and relies more on doing things on the spot, which is especially frustrating for others when they have to wait for him to write down an explanation he could’ve done before.

When left to his own devices, Tatsumi can be a bit of a dork, and a curious one to boot, though he would never admit it. He actually likes cute and small things, and when he sees a sleeping Penta!Rokudou (The version of Rokudou where he turns into a small grass penguin), he becomes insanely curious about whether or not he’s a plant, how much he weighs and if he really is as soft as he looks. Each time he tries to pick him up, a schoolmate passes by and Tatsumi acts as if he was just (not so) casually stretching or looking out a window. One could say he just doesn’t want people to know he likes cute things, especially when he finally succeeds in picking him up, he was so happy that he didn’t notice Aira coming up until it’s too late and drops Rokudou out of the window. He’s very proud in his own way, and doesn’t like being looked down on, even if it’s something as silly as that.

Tatsumi isn’t exactly what one would call timid, despite being quiet (or rather, mute in his case) and obedient. He had always acted as one of the faces of Class 4, whether it’s asking for assistance from another student or helping out with sign-ups. When he was still able to speak, he was good at taking command and instructing his fellow classmates what to do. He’s more proactive than reactive, which is probably why people mistook his initiative as loyalty towards Tomonaga. According to Tobari, Tatsumi was always a talkative person, and was especially chatty with his friends much to Tobari’s annoyance. One could say that Tatsumi is friendly as well, given he does get along with members of various classes. When he lost his voice, he still went around the school to help out even if he doesn’t do the explaining anymore. He’s a responsible and reliable comrade for the most part, so long as you don’t give him a reason to turn his back on you.

Abilities/Powers: To give a brief idea of his power, one needs to understand how it works in the first place. In Naraka, during their first day of school, students are asked to write a character that they believe would aid them in a war. This character (kanji) will then embed itself onto a part of their body, and they can use it as a power to fight monsters and overcome challenges they’d face in Naraka before graduation. The power functions by summoning the character and using your imagination to have a clear idea of your mode of attack. For example, ‘Katana’ allows you to wield an actual katana as long as you have an idea what it looks like. However, for objects like ‘Fire’, you will need something that actually holds fire (like a torch) in order to use it. If you use your character incorrectly, it will recoil and damage you instead. So, if you use ‘Fire’ directly, it could burn your arm. Different characters can have several meanings, and all of those meanings can apply if you have a good enough imagination.

Tatsumi possesses the ‘character’ 戟, which means any of the following: long-handled Chinese spear; lance; pike; ancient Chinese halberd; weapons; arms; grip of a bow. Canonly, he’s only ever used it to summon two halberds (read as ‘geki’ when summoned) for battle, but like any ‘character’ used in canon, they are able to use any ability that is related to that so long as they can get a clear image of what it is they want from that character. This means that Tatsumi is capable of summoning any type of weapon if he wishes, but uses the halberds primarily as these are the weapons he’s practiced with. (Getting the weapon doesn’t mean you automatically get the skill, so if he were to summon a bow, he wouldn’t know how to use it anyway without practice.)

Items/Weapons: His clothes, pen and notebook (I assume the weapons are automatic since they're summonable)
Sample Entry: Thread at the Domestic Meme – Winter Edition
Sample Entry Two: When he first woke up without the sight of Mikotogawa nearby, he had flown into panic.

It was hard not to, given the last situation he remembered. The details were all too clear in his mind, and for a moment he worried that she might have been...

He didn't really think on it too hard when he finally got the chance to move. After all, he can't just stay asleep and pretend this was just a nightmare. He's had enough of those days back in Naraka. He also knew better than to underestimate a change in setting. Even if Hinata had not told him about this happening, it was safe to say it came with the unpredictability of the Blight. That made it really dangerous to stay put. So when he finally tossed away the sheets he was covered with and jumped to his feet, clad in the same gym clothes he wore during the Blight, he immediately made for the window to see what the outside looks like. The room made no sense, the place made no sense, and dread had filled him up almost immediately when he realized he wasn't back at school.

This place was no better.

He had expected trees or a bustling city, filled with the locals of the world they had to save before time ran out. Sure, there were unfamiliar faces, but this place looked gloomy and uncomfortable compared to the landscape he remembered seeing. The billboard was downright disturbing, and Tatsumi had to force himself to look past that towards the rest of the place to see a familiar face, or an activity that would give justification to the bad feeling he had about this place.

Mikotogawa's face flashes in his memory for a second, snapping him out of his thoughts. Right. He needs to look for her first. Avoid the people unless he can be certain they won't try to kill them again, and find his friend before something bad happens to her.

He just hoped it would be that easy.

Other Characters Played: n/a
Preferred Apartment: None.
Character Name: Raine Sage
Canon: Tales of Symphonia
Canon Point: After the party is split up by the Derris Emblem

Background/History: Link here!

Personality:

Raine Sage is a young woman who has had to take on many roles in her life, usually ones laden with responsibility. Teacher, sister, healer, historian, technology expert, tactician - she's used to juggling a lot of things on her plate. Among her usual companions, she is known for being the pragmatic voice of reason, with a level head and a calm demeanor, usually mistaken for a cold one. Sometimes they accuse of being cold-hearted when her suggestions usually involve the larger picture instead of dealing with the short-term problems, though she usually made a point of abiding by Lloyd or Colette's decisions instead of forcing her opinion onto their actions. In a way it shows how she's willing to believe in her students, even if she disagrees with the method that they're taking. She can deliver the truth swiftly when she feels it needs to be heard, or when her opinion is asked for, and while others may find it harsh, (Sheena in particular took a while to warm up to her, referring to Raine's methods as 'devious' but seeming impressed by her intelligence) she believes it's important to keep logic at hand, especially when one's decision could alter the state of the world.

She prefers to think things through and have a plan before acting, though she's had to come up with a few on the spot (such as the initial decision to explode the human ranches, which later developed into more established plans). Her ability to heal would become very important, as a deep seated regret of failures - as well as necessity - inspired her to seek ways to learn more skills, such as finding Boltzman's book of healing theories, as well as obtaining the unicorn horn, which enhanced her abilities further, and she puts those skills to use as their journey continues. She's very scholarly, so can often be found with a book, or making lists of the plants and monsters they encounter as well.

While she still has difficulty putting trust in others (she berated herself thoroughly after Kratos's apparent betrayal, and had refused to heal Sheena until Colette insisted), over the course of the game, she began to believe in Lloyd and his ideals, which she admitted was something that was affecting the way she viewed the world -- learning to believe in the possibility of change. She even has a quote that best illustrates this realization. "...It's ironic. My human blood spurs my intellectual curiosity, and my elven blood provides me with the years I need to satisfy it. It's almost as if I'm acknowledging being happy that I was born a half-elf. Even though, up until now, I've never once thought such a thing before..." This is a statement that later gives her a stronger push to accepting who she is, though her canonpoint takes her immediately from a brief moment of doubt in a trap set by Mithos, before Lloyd arrives.

Overall she does a good job of trying to seem more put together than she actually is, as few seem to catch on when things are bothering her because of her very private nature. She's actually very dependent on her brother, though she doesn't seem to realize it, caught up in all of her responsibilities as she is. (According to him, she can't do laundry, or cook, so he does most of the household chores when she gets too busy anyway). She cares for him and can be overprotective at times (and he of her), though she also thought that he would be safe in the village with Colette's family while she went on the initial world regeneration journey with Colette and Kratos, which implied that she must have thought highly of them, given her issues with trust at the time. She also tends to be less careful about her own health, focusing more on others instead of her own problems. She practically hovers over Genis when he trips and skins his knee, tending to him and scolding him - though gets to a point where she faints due to an illness by either not realizing the seriousness of her condition or figuring that she could just plow through it. There also have been moments where in the face of a conflict of a personal nature, she will go out of her way to avoid it, in some cases even running off so as not to be seen in her distress. She tends to use the phrase "it's nothing" quite often if questioned about a murmured remark, or if she seems distracted. She doesn't want anyone to have concern for her, only for them think that she's as capable as she acts.

It's also important to examine her experiences.

Raine was born in the elven village of Heimdall, in Tethe'alla, to her elven mother, Virginia and her human father, Kloitz. This makes her half-elven, and her race played a strong part in how she lived her life. Half-elves were despised by elves as well as humans, and a scandal in the village eventually resulted in the banishment of her family. Around the same time, the university of Sybak was made aware that Raine was a prodigy, gifted in many areas. Unbeknownst to Raine (until she finally found her mother in Exire later), they were the reason why the family could never settle down after being cast out of the village. The university was open to humans, though it made a point to gather intelligent half-elves and force them to live and work in the basements.

There are a few traumatic incidents that still haunt her. A prominent incident occurred when Raine had fallen off of a ship that they had been traveling on to escape from their pursuers, nearly drowning. She has been affected by aquaphobia ever since, refusing to go near any large bodies of water if she can help it and later insisting that she wasn't afraid when confronted by it. Otherwise she seems to have a mental block on most of her childhood memories prior to her abandonment. For many years Raine was angry about what had happened, tucking that anger inside of herself, and taking on the mature role of raising her brother. In this sense, Raine was forced to abandon her childhood completely, as she had to become a caregiver to her infant brother at the age of eleven.

The trauma from this event led to her blocking out the existence of Tethe'alla and instead leaving her to focus on the role ahead of her. She and Genis moved around Sylvarant, though their struggles were difficult at first, and led her to great despair, though instead of letting the bad experiences get the better of them, she eventually resolved to "harden her heart" so she wouldn't have to hate anyone (unlike her brother, who has a more difficult time). Raine and her brother learned to refer to themselves as elves, though it was more difficult for Genis at first given his age, and his slipping led to them having to leave at least one other village before they could settle in Iselia. She's very accustomed to traveling, though all she wanted was to find a place the two of them could call home, and finding a place she felt comfortable enough to think of as a home - there was a time she was in doubt of even returning to Iselia, during a time they incorrectly believed the two worlds would be split apart forever.

Raine pursued the idea of finding a teaching job - despite her young age - so she would be able to keep an eye on her brother and obtain enough wages to keep a roof over both of their heads, though it took years before she was able to make this a reality. It shows that at a young age, she was already dedicated toward choosing the path of responsibility - instead of panicking or abandoning her little brother, she dedicated her life toward raising him, as well as furthering her own education. As a teacher, she's very intense - her students look up to her, but she tends to be a strict disciplinarian. She gives her students praise when they have the right answers, and shows her rare soft side when she provides them with advice in difficult situations. She's supportive but tends to avoid coddling.

In classes she generally seems calm and patient, unless there is deliberate misbehaving or instances where students doze off during lessons. In one such case she has reacted by flinging an eraser, or making them stand in a corner to hold a bucket of water. Her knowledge was respected, though her punishments were "scary". This is best illustrated by her relationship with Lloyd, in some ways, though he's hardly the example of an average student and as far as studies are concerned, she seemed almost at her wits end in trying to get him to grasp academics. Though he made up for it with his friendship, and accepting both her and her brother once they were no longer able to conceal the truth about their heritage.

It's also important to note, as race is the crux of the conflicts in her world, that Raine does her best to not react in anger toward people for their treatment of her. She'd rather let people form their own opinions of her due to her actions; she's not going to go out of her way to sell herself. Her frustration shows more toward her fellow half-elves, especially at the Desians, who make it a point to torment humans in ranches and are quite aggressive in their lifestyle. In confrontations she often refers to them as idiots and stands by the group and the decisions she has made with her life up to that point. Raine clearly does not agree with their ideals - it says a lot that she's a half elf living in a human village willing to teach their children all for the sake of bringing up her brother correctly - and she repeatedly tells Genis that "they're not like us; we're different", even during the time she was still referred to as an elf. However, when they were finally able to return to Heimdall and were denied entry, she doesn't complain even while weighed down by the nostalgia of her childhood, which hadn't begun to hit her until they had returned to Tethe'alla. When the human mayor in Iselia starts to bluster in the face of their lies being revealed, she runs away from the conversation instead of arguing with him like the others, though is more overcome by the emotion of the villagers speaking up in acceptance of her and her brother - something she never thought was possible.

Another important - and perhaps bizarre - side of her is one that is also connected to her abandonment, the fact that she tends to go into what Lloyd calls "ruin mode" around ancient ruins and artifacts. In a whirl of high energy and mania, she's rather obsessed with past civilizations, academia, magitechnology, unusual plants, and discovery, and often goes so far into this personality shift that it overrides her usual common sense, and she can become very careless. She can become very demanding, sometimes even violent, and unreasonable. The reason why she's obsessed with the ruins in the first place was part of her desperately wanting to find the place where she was abandoned, although even after finally reaching the Otherworldly Gate (and notably not going into her mania when reaching it), this obsession still lingers. That manic energy can sometimes tie in to her (oft repressed) creativity, especially where cooking is concerned - when she's coming up with a new recipe, and you see that light in her eyes, it's best to go the other way.

Abilities/Powers:

Raine is a healer, with spells designed for healing and support magic, along with offensive light elemental magic. The spells are referred to as artes. The magic comes from mana, which is considered the element of life, which elves and half-elves are sensitive to, hence they're more likely to be natural mages. (Humans do not have the ability to cast magic unless it is a unique circumstance.) The origin of healing magic is less clear as to whether or not it has the same source [of mana], although information related to that specifically is only an unfinished theory. Either way, casting too many spells will of course make the caster tired if they are unable to replenish their energy. Raine's spellcasting is also boosted by the fact she has an exsphere equipped. An exsphere is a crystal that, when equipped with a key crest, amplifies the user's abilities far beyond normal levels. This has not only helped her achieve higher level healing artes, but she has a quicker reaction time and sharper reflexes. She wields a staff in battle.

Healing Artes
-First Aid -
Healing: Refresh and heal tired and injured allies. Fast healing to external wounds.

-Nurse-
Healing (mid): Focuses a greater concentration of healing to multiple people at once. (targets certain people)

-Healing Circle-
Healing (mid): Focuses a greater concentration of healing to multiple people at once. (in a general area)

-Dispel-
+ Nullify (larger group)
Healing: Dispel an ally's magical ailment (debuffs and the like.)

-Charge-
Healing: supplies her own energy to the target at a greater cost to herself.

-Recover-
+ Purify/Restore (greater concentration)
Healing (mid): Cure an ally's physical ailment. [Poison, infection, etc.]

-Sharpness-
+ Acuteness (multi)
Status: Temporarily increase an ally's physical strength/attack.

-Barrier-
+ field barrier (multi)
Status: Increases an ally's physical defense

-Revitalize-
Healing (high): Provide a greater amount of healing (refreshing stamina, fast healing to cuts, surface wounds, etc) to a very large area.

-Resurrection -
Healing (high): Resurrect/revive a fallen ally; restore the body from a "cursed" state, also revive dead plants/trees; may require the unicorn horn for more effectiveness. [think of it on a scale of d&d unconsciousness. Also probably depends on other conditions, such as the how--if it's too brutal/natural death it won't work.]

Light magic:

-Photon (light) -
Engulfs the enemy in a ball of light that explodes.

- Ray (light) -
Beams of light radiate from a central point above the enemy, striking down.

* Mystic Arte: Sacred Shine (Part of the battlefield is circled with a glyph on the ground, and with a blinding flash, it erupts in light, dealing massive damage to enemies. Element: light)

* Mystic Arte: Fairy Circle (Four fairies fly out in four directions. A glyph appears, covering the battlefield (probably an 60-80 ft distance? Another blinding flash, and all allies are healed (wounds seal up/refreshes everyone/fast recovery unless bloodloss is heavy) and all enemies are damaged.)

Other
- Force field - a temporary barrier that can block up to 80% of intended damage

Items/Weapons:

- Ancient Rod (staff, not the most powerful one she acquired on their journey but beggars can't be choosers)
- the unicorn horn

(as a note here she's wearing her exsphere so I'm not sure if that counts as a third? or if it would just come with her)

Sample Entry:

Entry 1

Sample Entry Two:

A small bird hops along the path in front of her, as Raine quietly observes its progress, up until its wings take it to flight, soaring up into the air and towards the secret forest. It's the first night she's been allowed to stay in Heimdall, even if they refused to allow her a bed at the inn. Raine finds that it's a peaceful time for reflecting, as the stars above glitter in the distance beyond the settling evening mist. Tomorrow would face Lloyd with a battle, and they needed to all be prepared for that.

For now, she walks the paths beneath the trees, feeling the nostalgia pour over her like waves. How long had it been? Too long - she steps around some of the wild plants on the ground, knowing she can't allow herself to wander too far. She just needed time to herself, away from the others. The village seems the same as she remembers, and yet not the same at all, from when she had last been here; the elves avoided her still, and she didn't want to risk any confrontations.

Her thoughts slowly drift to her brother, wondering how he was handling being in the town. He had been through a rough time, and she had done the best that she could, and at the very least, he had told her his secret. Even then, there was a slight rift between them, borne from her own actions for his protection. Besides, she thinks, Lloyd would be a better one to comfort him. She could tell that Genis was suffering, with their defeat of Mithos still a lingering ache, but the world would come first, before that hurt could be truly appeased.

Now her steps took her back towards the inn, where a small cooking fire was already being prepared. Regal, she thinks, and it's now that she purposely checks to see if her other friends are nearby.

Character Name: Madoka Kaname
Canon: Puella Magi Madoka Magica
Canon Point: Episode 10, first timeline (right before her death).
Background/History: http://wiki.puella-magi.net/Madoka_Kaname
Personality: Madoka is just a normal school girl, to put it lightly.

She's kind hearted, a little clumsy, she doesn't have far too much confidence. In fact, she's in no means perfect, despite being a main character.

In her own words, "if I could become a magical girl, if only to help others, then that would be my only wish". To put it lightly, Madoka is 'pure'. In the world of Madoka Magica, happiness is equal to despair. Because of this, Madoka is told to be a 'powerful' magical girl. However, becoming a magical girl also means becoming a witch--and Madoka becomes one powerful enough to destroy the entire world. In other words, out of all of the girls that Kyuubey has encountered, Madoka is one of the most pure girls.

However, Madoka has many faults. She has very little confidence. She frequently says that she believes that she's never been good at anything, and relies on others for advice or help. There are many times throughout the series when she appears to seem helpless. However, she does regret feeling that way. This goes hand in hand with her strength. After all, throughout the other timelines we see Madoka in, she indeed uses her powers to help others as much as she possibly can.

Her emotional strength also seems to lie within her friends. They are her reason for fighting. However, that also goes hand in hand with her weaknesses. When things begin to go downhill within the series, and her friends begin to die, Madoka seems to spiral further and further into despair. However, with that--she is also extremely selfless. Even when knowing that becoming a magical girl also means surrendering one's soul, she is willing to do that much on the slim chance that she might be able to help her friend Sayaka.

She seems to look up to those who are successful and powerful in their own right. For example, her Mother and Mami. She relies greatly on her Mother's advice at times throughout the series, and often says that Mami is her role model. In the first timeline, where I will be pulling her from, Madoka looks up to Mami as a teacher--Mami having been a magical girl for longer than she.

An example of Madoka's friendliness can be seen with Sayaka, and Homura. Homura, who was the new student, and appeared to be nothing less than nervous. Madoka quickly became friends with the other girl, and even saved her from a witch when she was in danger. Sayaka is one of Madoka's closer friends, and is often seen wanting to help her through out timelines. This seems to be the case whether or not Madoka has become a magical girl.

Socially, Madoka is very friendly, and seems to be well known in a positive light in her school. However, she seems to keep herself within a group of two other classmates. She's normally polite in regards to others, often calling Mami 'Mami-san'/Miss Mami, and at first calling Homura 'Akemi-san'. She doesn't often take well to teasing, and her intention never seem to be ones of malice. She cares greatly for those around her, and would do anything for them.

In the first timeline, Madoka is shown to be far more courageous and willing to do what she can to help others--jumping in with little hesitation. This is the difference between Madoka in the timeline the show takes place during, and the first timeline. Madoka, by the time she is introduced, is already a magical girl, and even sacrifices herself to just attempt to help save those who are important to her. She’s far more social, rarely tripping over her words and shows a great amount of enthusiasm. However, Madoka is also realistic in a way (saying “she guesses” when Homura asks if she’s scared of being a magical girl), but is aware that she’s one of the few people who can protect others against serious dangers.

Abilities/Powers: Madoka is a Puella Magi, or Magical Girl. A girl becomes a Puella Magi by making a contract with Kyuubey - a strange animal-like creature in the Maoka universe. In exchange for becoming a magical girl, he grants any wish that the girl wants - no matter what it is.

Becoming a magical girl means gaining a soul gem - which makes the girl almost indestructible. They have a great amount of stamina, and endurance, and do not feel pain. They can take a great amount of damage without actually dying. They become stronger, faster, and depending on whatever they wished for, gain a special ability. For example, Sayaka, who wished to heal a childhood friend, heals far more quickly than a human would. Though, Madoka’s special power as a magical girl was not revealed during the TV series, or movies

However, if a magical girl’s soul gem is not purified by a grief seed - an item that a witch leaves behind - or is tainted by despair, they become that which they are hunting, and that is a witch. A witch is described as a being that spreads despair, and is shown to drive people to do as much as commit suicide.

And that is supposedly their main purpose - to kill witches, and spread hope.

Madoka’s powers as a magical girl remain unknown, sans her using a bow to fight. However, just as other magical girls can, Madoka can more than likely manipulate objects with magic to become more useful to her. However, as Madoka is rarely seen in the series as a magical girl - as said, much to her abilities is still a mystery.

She can also speak with other magical girls, or girls chosen by Kyuubey telepathically.

There is much to Madoka’s potential abilities. However, because I am taking her from the first timeline, her potential as a magical girl, and god-like powers are irrelevant. From her current canonpoint, she will only be the same as other magical girls.

Items/Weapons: Her soul gem, and her clothes on her back (school uniform).
Sample Entry: http://dear-mun.dreamwidth.org/10273577.html
Sample Entry Two: Madoka Kaname was lost.

For a long while, it had taken her a while to get used to getting around the city at home by herself. She was never great with directions in the first place, and being somewhere completely new had only made it work. “Uhm…” She bites the inside of her mouth uncertainly. The only thing she had been left with here after waking up was a device that looked a little like a cellphone.

She clicks through it, looking through the different options. ….It was strange. She hadn’t gotten any information or welcome into this world from anyone except for her roommates, but they had filled her in on some basic information.

…. Everyone here needed help, it seemed like. And somehow, she feels like….

Whatever reason that she was sent here for, she can do a lot of good. After all, isn’t that what being a magical girl is all about? Helping others? Spreading hope, and happiness towards others? And this place… seemed so desolate, it felt a little depressing.

She smiles weakly, putting her device down, a hand going to her pocket to feel for her soul gem.

…. She’d do everything she could, no matter how small, to help others. She could still do that much…!

Character Name: Jesse Pinkman
Canon: Breaking Bad
Canon Point: 4.7, "Problem Dog" - Episode End
Background/History: Click.

Personality:

Young, directionless and troubled, Jesse was never boy scout material to begin with. When his character is first introduced, it's made clear that at age twenty-five he hasn't gone anywhere after high school. The person we're presented with is an immature loser with a partying habit in place of any serious type of ambition. His drug habits, both using and selling, end up estranging him from his family and steering him to become Walt's full-time partner in manufacturing Crystal Meth. He ends up in way over his head -- Jesse likes to partake in illegal activities, sure, but he can't stand the business of murder, dead bodies or being in real danger, realities which hit them almost immediately and escalate out of control the further they go on. Uncomfortable as he may be, he's too easily manipulated by Walt into taking whatever extra steps are required for them to keep cooking. It's also something he becomes very good at, under Walt's guidance, and since he hasn't managed to make much of himself otherwise he enjoys the idea of having a valuable skill, of being good at something. Even if that something is selling poison to people who don't care.

But there's another major reason he sticks by Walt, and that is that he simply becomes dependent on him, the old Chemistry teacher he still refers to as Mr. White. When his parents more or less give up on him completely, Walt becomes the only older role model available to Jesse. Without quite realizing it, he begins to look to him for approval, for acknowledgment of any kind. It matters that he can do things right and that Walt chooses him over others, although he can never understand the reasons why. They do look out for each other in the lonely world that they've created, since they're the only other people they can talk to about their work, but they argue constantly and bounce tension back and forth just as much. These arguments tend to heat up quickly, with Jesse feeling angry and unfulfilled most of the time. He feels Walt's constant criticism and judgment start to weigh on him, something often played for comedic effect, but he actually takes most of it to heart.

He takes it hard when he disappoints someone important, but also perks up easily when people are pleased with him or treat him like he's special. Jesse's pretty insecure about his self-worth and tends to assume most people will dismiss him out of hand as a worthless junkie. He tries to use sarcasm, anger or just plain apathy for defenses, which means he's sometimes a straight-up rude little shit to other people, especially when he feels cagey. His speech patterns are peppered with street slang and he has a tendency to come off as an idiot, but every once in a while he displays an ability to think intelligently. Point of fact, when Walt attempts to quit the business midway, Jesse takes it on himself to replicate the crystal blue with nearly the same purity as Walt was able to achieve. It shows he's capable of learning and listening, something that he does more of than he lets on.

He often copies the people around him, absorbing what they say or do like a sponge and incorporating it into his personality. In fact, it's safe to assume his street-boy persona is something he picked up from his friends, considering he comes from an overachieving family with a middle-class background. It shows in his awkwardly genuine manners towards certain people, like Walter's wife Skyler -- he knows he should be respectful at times, knows his place around the people who deserve it. Loyalty and dependability are some of his best qualities, but he falters when it comes to believing in himself. To quote the director, "Jesse is a leader who thinks he's a follower." He's a big-hearted character with an instinctive sense of right versus wrong, but he makes poor choices nonetheless. He started out squeamish and timid when Walt drove him into the more gruesome aspects of the meth business, but he's since been exposed to so much of it that he's become dull to the trauma without losing his emotional compass. When he really examines what's going on, he hates the idea that they're both able to get away with their actions without consequences. He doesn't really have what it takes to remain in the business, but he stays. Poor choices.

With people that he likes, Jesse can be pretty fucking charming and sweet. We see this especially when he interacts with children, having a big soft spot for them and being something of an overgrown child himself, but he's not a total pushover or even above manipulating others for his own personal gain. After everything he's been through, not to mention what being an addict can do to a person's emotional and mental state, he can also be paranoid, distrusting and distant. Sometimes he's slow to come up with good ideas or prone to screw-ups under pressure, but he's learned how to be smarter and more graceful in tight spots. At his current canon point, the drug-lord he's working for has started to see potential in him and wants to begin using him for it. He's come some ways from the bumbling and naive character he started out as, but those parts of him aren't completely gone either.

Jesse isn't used to finding fulfilling relationships with other people, but that just might be because most of his friends are fair-weather ones, his role models are largely absent or downright intimidating and his significant others meet bad ends by Walt. He needs people, at the end of the day, but he's used to being alienated away from that need. At this point he's alone with what he's done, too deeply entrenched in the business to seek true friendship in anyone either than Walt. And that is a weird fucking friendship if there ever was one, to boot. When the shit piles too high, his coping skills are lacking. Distractions, drugs and noise are his favorite ones. He's somewhat apathetic about his fate and his life in general, disturbed by the fact that he keeps managing to get away with his own immoral actions. It's safe to say he's aware of how bad it's gotten and that he's haunted by it; he accepts that he's the "bad guy", and when there's no one there to judge him, it seems like he's itching to damn himself for it.

Abilities/Powers: Nothing special here, other than working knowledge of how to make really good meth. The business he's in means he's learned how to shoot a gun, but otherwise he's an average, mundane person from modern-era New Mexico.
Items/Weapons: ( 1 ) vial of ricin poison hidden in ( 1 ) pack of cigarettes and ( 1 ) small plastic bag of of Crystal Blue Meth, roughly 1 ounce.
Sample Entry: Here on the test drive.

Sample Entry Two:

"It's my lucky cigarette," he tells Mr. White, after scattering the tobacco out and slipping the tiny vial of poison into the skin.

A muted moment passes between them as they sit across from each other at the coffee table in his living room, all dim lighting and dark conversation. He's nestled the smoke neatly back in its pack, sealing away any possible excuses he could think up along with it. The job's been passed over to him, looming over his head. He said he'd do it, first chance he gets.

The way Mr. White tried to weasel out of outright asking him to take care of it is nagging at him and his thoughts keep scattering about the hundreds of scenarios where it all goes wrong, but Mr. White is always right about these things in the end. He manufactured the ricin in Gus' own lab and says it seemed fitting. It's grim and tangible, like this -- pre-meditated, or whatever.

The discussion is clipped and they don't have to fight about it, not yet, since Jesse has agreed. They have an understanding, or something like it. With Mr. White he always feels like he's trying to press down the glue on a tattered envelope that refuses to stick, some frustrating endeavor that always leaves him responsible for something big but unable to deliver. At least this time he has time. He has time and his partner is trusting him to use it.

"Whatever you do, don't smoke it," Mr. White replies, unfaltering.

There's an unsettling quality to the way he never twitches, these days, something Jesse notes to himself when he lifts his eyes and passes a look over the man sitting in front of him. Sometimes he blinks and thinks he doesn't recognize the face anymore, but all he has to do is wait a pause, a beat, and clarity swirls in: he'll never really forget this face, not for however long he lives.

All that's being asked of him with that retort is not to the cut to the inevitable chase. Jesse chews at his bottom lip, through an anxious frown. Yeah, he can manage. He can hold out for a while longer.

Character Name: The Doctor
Canon: Doctor Who
Canon Point: Just after series 4 episode 14, after returning Donna home
Background/History: wiki

Personality:
The Doctor is not human. He looks it, and sometimes he even acts it, but the bottom line truth is that he is not. He's a Time Lord and that carries with it its own physiology, philosophy and cultural difference. Because he's a Time Lord, he's seen a great deal that no human can. He travels in time and in space. He's familiar with past and present and future. He lives his life in an odd and confusing web of here and now and then and there. He's seen into the rift of time and space. Maybe because of this, maybe simply because of who he is, he is exceptionally clever. He's a genius. And he's not shy about sharing this information, proclaiming his own brilliance and cleverness whenever he has the chance. He can be a bit arrogant, can expect that others should be on the same page as him much quicker than they are -- Rose and Sarah Jane both comment on this. He's quick-witted and a fast talker, though sometimes he only makes sense to himself. There's something almost manic about his manner sometimes (the man has a habit of licking stuff to figure it out) and terrible quirky, though he is very capable of having serious and weighty discussions. He's a complicated man, after all.

He also bears the dubious distinction of being the last of the Time Lords, and that comes with its own extremely heavy baggage. The Doctor's past weighs on him heavily. It informs all his actions. Once upon a time (so far as he knows) he was responsible for the destruction of all his people (as well as the Daleks, but somehow that never seems to stick). Because of this he is alone, alone in a way that few beings can understand. The last of his species and the eternal traveler. Even his home -- the TARDIS -- is a spaceship. There is no port, no harbor for him. He exists in constant motion. He runs from his past and never allows himself to linger in any place very long.

There is a very real and very deep sadness and regret in the Doctor. Strangely enough it is not the way most people would think of him. In fact he covers it so well that those who only know him casually may never actually see it. At first blush, the Doctor is bright and chipper -- an overly curious pilgrim who pokes his nose into just about everything as he passes. He's fascinated with so many things, sometimes a bit too exuberant and thrilled at what he's witnessing, even when it's dangerous and puts everyone in peril. People have called him on it more than once. He's often a bit sarcastic and cheeky, quick to tease and quick witted. Often enough it seems as though he's stumbled across the punchline to a fantastic joke and doesn't yet feel like sharing it with the class. Especially with Rose, he'll take time in the midst of horrible circumstances to gush about the things that are happening around them. In general, he is quick to laugh and smile. He hates being bored. He's an overgrown kid every now and again.

Really, there's often a childlike quality about him as though the wonder of the universe has yet to grow any dimmer or lesser in his eyes, despite the centuries that he has traveled and the things that he has witnessed. This wonder drives him, in part. His sadness drives him too, the man out of time and out of place wherever he goes. There's a heavy regret in him, and he runs. Always keeps going, keeps running, keeps traveling. The Doctor and his TARDIS.

Of course, he often stops off in his travels to see this or that. He's incapable of not intervening to help people when he is able too. And he's very good at it. He is eternally fighting the good fight on behalf of people, many of whom will never know he exists. But something in him compels him to do it.

After all his time in the universe all the suffering and pain he's seen, the Doctor wants to help. He wants to save people, though often death and disaster follow in his wake. Despite this sense of justice and need to save people, the Doctor is consistently unarmed. He refuses to resort to violence if there is any other option -- at least anymore. The death of his people at his hands seems to be more than enough for him. He hates guns and does everything he can to save even the enemies that he faces; he gives them a chance, a choice.

But he doesn't give second chances. There is a deep and powerful anger in him -- triggered often by threats to those he cares about or to those who would use violence and death and conquest as their weapons. His rage changes him, quiets him and sometimes explodes from him. In those moments it is easy to catch a glimpse of the warrior that he was once and in many ways still is. He can be ruthless if the situation calls for it, but more often tries to show mercy, to offer a chance for a peaceful outcome even for the aggressors. But there are certain foes that he faces with a bit of a harsher angle -- after a particularly difficult encounter with The Family, he devises eternal punishments for the four of them, trapping them individually for all eternity. The Doctor's anger can be chilling, driving him to harsh and final actions. Sometimes it threatens to nearly overwhelm him as does the guilt that seems to come along hand in hand with it.

His human companions are often the best remedy to this regret and anger that lives within him. He really outright admires humanity, though he has a soft spot for nearly all forms of life. For all this soft spot, he is still the only one of his species with no real home. He is a lonely man.

This loneliness is difficult. Too difficult sometimes, even for a man as old and accustomed to it as the Doctor. So he takes on companions, individuals that he happens upon and connects with on some level or another. Though they're with him for varying lengths of time, how he interacts with them changes who he is as a person and also gives glimpses into different sides of his character.

Every so often (often) his companions remind him outright and blatantly of the better side of manners -- explaining to him that he's being rude, apologize for his insulting other species when he's cranky, reminding him that instead of being fascinated about a city he ought to express condolences to the sole survivor. There's nothing terribly cruel in him, but sometimes his brain is so caught up in other matters that he forgets entirely about little things like politeness and social conventions.

The tenth regeneration of the Doctor is a man in transit and healing. He is "born" out of the death of his ninth self. The first person he encounters is Rose Tyler. There's a lot to be said about the Doctor's relationship with Rose. In a way, he's at his most human. He tells her, rather later on in their relationship, that she healed him. He was a man damaged and angry and bitter after his experience in the Time Wars, but his journeys with Rose softened some of his sharper edges. ...some of them. Making a connection with her helped him make a connection with the universe again. For a while he almost let himself believe that it could last. He loves Rose, even if he doesn't manage to communicate that, even at then end. The Doctor is the king of dodging emotional issues, bobbing and feinting away from his feelings like a golden gloves winning boxer. He's quick to smile or joke his way around them, answer cryptically, or outright ignore them.

In fact, he puts the last into really extensive practice. Losing Rose weighs heavy upon the Doctor, and after she's gone there is a constant void. His next long-term companion Martha notes it. He remains absolutely oblivious (willfully oblivious) to her feelings for him. Oh he has a great deal of affection for her, cares about her, but does not allow himself to get as close to Martha as he did with Rose. Even so, through his time with her he does get closer in touch with his fascination for the better part of humanity. He trusts Martha, demonstrating his willingness to put his full faith and even his life in the hands of those he trusts. Donna later notes that his time with Martha has changed him for the better, making him more merciful.

By the time Martha leaves him (because she realizes he'll never feel for her the way she feels for him, and she deserves someone who does), the Doctor is starting to puzzle through his loneliness. His next companion, Donna, he manages to connect with on a new and different level. He informs her that he just needs a "mate" in the very British sense of a "pal" not a biological imperative standpoint. Later he calls her his best friend. He's quick to quibble with her. She challenges him and shows one important thing -- left on his own, he can get lost in the darker side of everything. He needs someone to stop him sometimes. Donna is often that person. By being around humans and people he cares about, the better side of him comes out. Though it's also in his companions that some of his greatest sadness arises. Even with Donna, in the end he had to sacrifice their friendship to save her life, wiping out each and every memory that she had of their time together.

Through the friendships and relationships with his companions, the Doctor lives more fully makes the connections that he seems to crave. But the sad matter of it is, as he himself says, in the end they always break his hearts. The Doctor's life is a life of loss and regret and remembrance. When Rose questions him about having left Sarah Jane (companion to one of his previous incarnations), he explains what may be one of the great tragedies of his life: even if his companions could spend the rest of their lives with him, he can't spend the rest of his life with them. He's a Time Lord, he doesn't get old and die as humans do. He regenerates. He has to live on.

Though he looks human, though he has similar emotions to humans, similar needs for companionship and connection, he is not human. He's quick and curious and stubborn, eager to help, merciful but only so far. The Doctor is full of regrets and anger but also hope and compassion. He's the eternal traveler, never stopping, running from his past and perhaps also his future. He tells Rose, when they are finally separated seemingly forever, that there she is living a life day after day. He calls that the one adventure that he can never have. He's the Doctor and he has to live on.

Abilities/Powers:
The Doctor is clever. Just ask him. He's entirely fond of telling people just how clever he is. Usually he has the goods to back it up, too. He can do pretty impressive math in his head near instantaneously, though some extremely complex calculations are still beyond him. He's not a computer. He also has a knack for machines and mechanics, able to repair or alter them quickly with his brain and his sonic screwdriver for help.

Because he is a Time Lord, his perception is different than most people. He has an extensive knowledge of history and, for lack of a better word, geography, able to identify species and places and times by look or very little information. He's capable in many cases of telling whether someone is not entirely human.

One particularly weird talent involves licking things to learn about them. It's not a very sanitary ability and makes him look more than a little bit mad, but that doesn't tend to concern him.

The Doctor has a few psychic/telepathic abilities though they are not entirely expounded upon. He can shield parts of his mind from other mind-readers (such as his true name) and has interfaced with people to share his thoughts or alter their thoughts -- as he did with Donna to allow her to hear the song of the Ood and to erase her memories after the metacrisis that threatened to destroy her if he did not.

He's a great deal tougher than a human being -- part of that may be the fact that he has two hearts. He can absorb radiation in significant doses, can survive extreme temperatures. Of course, he can be killed, but because he is a Time Lord, he can regenerate. When he is injured to the point of death, so long as he does not die before having the chance, he can heal himself by regenerating. In doing so his appearance and personality changes, though he retains the memories of his previous incarnations. In Haven, presumably, he'll be subject to the game's death mechanic rather than his own regeneration ability.

Usually he can travel through time, but since he's landed in Haven without his TARDIS, that ability is lost to him. And he'll be awfully annoyed by this fact.

Items/Weapons: Sonic screwdriver, his glasses, psychic paper

Sample Entry: Haven test drive post

Sample Entry Two:

The TARDIS was gone. It was a daunting and frightening thought, a realization that he had been trying his best to deny since he first woke up in this strange city. Without it, he was stranded. Left here. Trapped. Like a rat. No, no. Rats were trapped with a great deal more cheese. There was a great deal of just about nothing in this place. Rubbish accommodations. Whatever they'd done with her, well, it wasn't good.

Sonic screwdriver in hand, he stalked the perimeter of the convenience store, long spindly legs pacing in long and determined strides, even if those strides took him nowhere. Oh he knew that there were consequences for messing with this place. Today, yeah, today he was in the mood for consequences.

He couldn't remember the last time he'd spent in just one place. Well, all right, he could remember, but it wasn't something he had intended on repeating. Not here at least, no definitely not here. He could think of at least a dozen or so places he'd rather be than this broken down and rather dangerous little city, and he could think of them in less than a fraction of a second. Another few seconds and he'd have at least a hundred on top of that.

Still, despite the annoyance at being stranded without his ship, he did have to admit that things were never dull here. There was a puzzle here, to be certain, and he did want to figure it out. The people here, trapped the same as he was, well sort of the same as he was. Either way, they were in the same boat, and it was sinking and quite possibly on fire. Somewhere along the way the metaphor fell apart, but he figured that was the gist of it.

Even if the TARDIS were here, it wasn't as if he could just leave -- not with all these people here and in danger. This place was a gruesome gash on the face of space and time across who even knew how many universes. It was dangerous by its very existence to the fabric of reality itself. But more than that, the people here, their peril was more immediate. He wouldn't just run from that.

Not that running was an option, of course. His steps slowed, just in front of the door. All right. Consequences, here he came.

Character Name: Peeta Mellark
Canon: The Hunger Games
Canon Point: At the end of Catching Fire, after he kills Brutus
Background/History: The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, Peeta Mellark
Personality:

Personality

Peeta is charming beyond belief. With his boyish looks and his ability to spin words, he can sway a crowd whatever way he wants. For example, he's very charming on stage in the 74th Hunger Games, making jokes with Caesar about smelling like roses. He also charms the nation with his crush on Katniss. In the Quarter Quell, he charms the crowd with his devastating story of never being able to marry Katniss, of the secret marriage and the baby, even asking the crowd if they can keep a secret. He has a self-deprecating humor that really comes off as charming, too. His charismatic way is a very important part of Peeta.

He's a really loving person. Of course, he loves Katniss, but he also loves Haymitch and his family. He would lasso the moon for Katniss if she wished him to. In the 74th Hunger Games, he tries to keep her alive the whole time out of love, lying, killing, and joining the Careers to do this. In the Quarter Quell, he begs Haymitch to pick Katniss as the one to help in these Games. Even though he knows she doesn't love him back (or maybe just isn't sure of her feelings), he cuddles her at night to keep the nightmares away. He also has a locket made that has pictures of Katniss' family, trying to convince her to be the one that goes home. Most of what Peeta does is out of love for Katniss in the first two books. He volunteers in place of Haymitch and is hurt when his family isn't voting for him. Love is what motivates a lot of what he does.

He's also manipulative and a great liar. He lies when Katniss recognizes the Avox, to protect Katniss. He says she's a dead ringer for Delly Cartwright, when Delly looks completely different. He lies (most likely) about all the boys back home having a crush on Katniss, making her seem desirable. In the Quarter Quell, he lies about them getting married and that Katniss is pregnant, hoping to get the Games to stop. He lies and manipulates a lot of people to get his way.

Peeta's also a very sassy little thing. He often makes sassy remarks. For example, in the first book, when he explains that he frosts the cakes, Katniss says, “If only you could frost someone to death,” and Peeta responds with “Don’t be so superior. You can never tell what you’ll find in the arena. Say it’s actually a gigantic cake—”. He also says, “What was that you were saying just before the food arrived? Something about me...no competition...best thing that ever happened to you..." He also has a lot of spunk, like when he smashes Haymitch's glass on the train and says that it's not funny that Haymitch isn't helping them. He also made a painting of Rue on the ground instead of showing the Gamemakers his abilities to survive during the evaluation.

Motivations
His core motivations are to keep Katniss alive, to keep himself alive, and to stay himself. He is willing to kill and lie to protect Katniss. He lies on many occasions to protect her, such as about the Avox, in the arena with the Careers, to the cameras, and in his interviews. He’s willing to lie for a bit to protect himself, as shown by his short alliance with the Careers in the first book. On the roof, he mentions that he doesn’t want them to change him, make him into something he’s not. He shows who he really is by refusing to kill Katniss in the 74th Games, telling her to kill him. He also shows he’s not a piece in their games by painting Rue on the floor in his private session with the Gamemakers.

Weaknesses
Peeta has a lot of abilities, but he also has a lot of weaknesses. Physically, he has a false leg, which slows him down a lot. But he also has mental weaknesses. While being selfless can be wonderful, it can also hurt him. He throws himself into danger (telling Katniss to run and battling Cato, telling Haymitch to watch out for Katniss), which gets him into big trouble. He’s also bad at picking up on things, such as Haymitch’s hints in the arena, Katniss not loving him, and that Katniss and Haymitch have a secret during the victory tour.

Relations
Katniss and Haymitch are the most important people in Peeta's life.

He's in love with Katniss, and would do anything for her. His love for Katniss is what motivates him to do a lot of the events in canon. He treats her with respect and worships her almost. You’d think it was an artificial love, but he seems to genuinely care for her for who she is. They do snap and snarl at each other under pressure, but usually Peeta is a rock for Katniss, and vice versa. They lean on each other when they need to. In the first book, there’s a lot of distrust between them, but after they join forces in the arena, their trust in each other grows. By the second book, they are dedicated to keeping each other alive. There are a lot of confused feelings between the two. It’s hard to tell what are real feelings and what are faked feelings for the cameras.

Haymitch and Peeta have a quieter, less fiery relationship than Katniss and Haymitch. Peeta stands up to Haymitch, and Haymitch seems to respect him for that. There’s also resentment in the relationship, since Haymitch never sent Peeta any sponsors until Katniss joined up with him. It’s how he wanted it. He wanted him to choose Katniss. But he also feels a little hurt that he wasn’t chosen. It reinforced the impression that his family gave him, that no one wants him or would miss him. There’s a lot of trust that Peeta put into Haymitch that he shatters when he goes behind their backs and plots things with the rebels.

His family is not around for most of canon, but they add to the story now and then. Katniss notes that with his two brothers, one is too old to volunteer in his place, and the other must just not want to, something that I could see Peeta being a little hurt by. His mother is cruel, screaming at Katniss when she goes through the trash and hitting Peeta when he burns the bread. His father seems gentler and kinder. Katniss deals with him more when she trades squirrels. Peeta seems to be hurt by his mother's comment that Katniss might actually win. Katniss, not her own son. This leads him to think that no one wants him in the second book.

Abilities/Powers: Peeta grew up a baker’s son, so he knows how to bake things, and knows a great deal about bread. He’s skilled in painting and camouflage, and uses that skillset to frost fancy cakes. He’s handy with a knife and can coax a fire out of damp wood. He can lift and throw hundred-pound bags of flour and he’s very good at wrestling. He’s decent with knot tying and knows a trap that will leave a human dangling by a leg from a tree. He excels in hand-to-hand combat, and has some knowledge in knife throwing, making shelter, spear throwing, and edible plant life. He’s very good at public speaking, is charming and charismatic, and is very good at lying.
Items/Weapons: One Capitol-made knife. One sketchpad. One box of colored pencils.
Sample Entry: [The video turns on. A stocky boy with blond hair and bright blue eyes smiles warmly at the camera.]

Hey. So this place... weird, huh? And we're supposed to use these to communicate? At least I was able to figure that part out.

[He laughs at himself, as if he didn't trust himself not to make a mistake.]

Well, I guess I should introduce myself. I'm Peeta Mellark. I'm from Panem. I'm the son a baker, and I like to bake things and paint.

[He smiles, and it's sweet and endearing.] Any information I can get about where I am, what's going on, would be great. Oh, and if you meet someone named Katniss or Haymitch, let me know. Thanks.
Sample Entry Two:

Peeta hesitated at the doors, then stepped inside the training area. The doors closed behind him. He looked up to see the Gamemakers, sitting there and lounging, munching on snacks and talking and laughing. It ticked Peeta off. They were there to assess him, not to have a great time. His life depended on this. And, just like the last Games, they weren't paying attention. He could feel anger bubbling up inside him, and he stomped over to the camouflage station. The Gamemakers continued to pay him little attention. He grabbed the colors he wanted (beautiful colors, beautiful paints that were more expensive than he could have afforded before he won), and sat on the floor.

He started with Rue, her face shape and then her body shape. He filled in the rest, the curve of her baby face, her wild black locks. As she quickly became recognizable, the Gamemakers got quieter and quieter until it was dead silent. Peeta was grinding his teeth as he surrounded the small girl's death portrait with small wildflowers, just like Katniss had done in real life. A glass dropped, and he knew he had achieved the desired effect. He stood, fighting the temptation to cry, and stared the Gamemakers down.

They had not just done something wrong, they were doing something despicable. He would not stand for this. And he would fight back. The head Gamemaker announced that he was dismissed, a strange look on his face. He heard the faint call of 'Katniss Everdeen', and slowly made his way past Katniss, his face pitying. Katniss would have to see his painting, and it would upset her. Little did he know she would hang Seneca Crane.

Character Name: Gerome.
Canon: Fire Emblem: Awakening
Canon Point: during chapter 23; Invisible Ties.
Background/History: wiki it up.
Personality:
"No. I'm not fit to fight for anyone."

When Gerome is first introduced within his paralogue, he is shown to be asked for help by some villagers whom lives are at stake. Unfortunately, Gerome turns them down with. You'll learn that Gerome strongly believes no man can change fate. From his time he has witnessed the end of his world, it not only changed him but changed his outlook on the lives and events that he sees for himself in this kind of world. Certainly people who have "witness fate's implacable cruelty" could fight and get stronger to prove events to never happen. However, Gerome is not someone like Lucina who fights hard against it, but rather the complete opposite and would rather just sit on the sidelines and let things go as they are than to interfere, because changing fate is a fool's dream in his mind.

Cherche clearly sees this as a traveler's path of cowardice, living that way. But Gerome is the kind of person who has hoped and hoped- only to lose it all in the end. Which explains Gerome's need to distance himself from everyone, he intends to live his life as "a lone wolf." Even stating that he never intended on meeting with his mother again; he will seek out to help Minerva achieve happiness, but not his own. Since he's already bid farewell to his parents in time- he sees it useless to seek them out in the past to attempt a false life that wouldn't be anything real than the life he had back in his time, or so he believes.

"Stay your words. I've no intention of getting close to you. Fate will not be mocked. This war may claim your life anew, and I'll not weep twice for losing the same mother. My burden is heavy enough."

He basically builds this huge wall around him to cut himself from everyone. Even though he decides to join Chrom's army, he still keeps to himself as seen in all of his supports. If he isn't keeping his distance, he definitely leaves whenever approached to continue his act of being alone. Gerome behaves as though he greatly desires the lone company of himself, if not only Minerva, that it is such a hassle to get along with others within the camp or even his friends and family. Getting close to his friends, keeping strong bonds, so long as he trains then his strength alone is all he needs, not those in numbers. It's the lifestyle he chose and seems to keep himself in. However, despite all of this, this is actually the sole reason Gerome feels lonely. A loneliness does eat at him, and it continues to as he continues to keep that wall up. For someone who hates feeling alone- he does a hell of a job of keeping everyone away.

"I am sorry if I disappoint you. But I know my own limitations. I am not one for plans or speeches. I am a wolf that deals only in death."

When he isn't keeping people away, Gerome is shown to have a calm and collected manner. Not the kind that you see from those with patience and kindness, but of the kind where they do their best to keep their emotions under control. Of course, he certainly has his tempers or agitation when people try too hard, or too much, to pursue his company. He's not the calm type, rather just the kind of person who sees it better to keep himself mysterious as to keep people away. Which we come to the reason of his mask, Gerome wears it for reasons he can say such as to keep himself at an advantage over his enemies, but in truth he wears it to keep his emotions hidden. He feels a mask best helps him hide everything he feels so in turn keeps his feelings either bottled up or only to himself. When his mask is taken he does react badly- doing anything he can to get his mask, as it's the only control he feels he has to hide things, and without it he feels vulnerable and of course because he's overly shy.

"You have always been a perpetual ray of sunshine in my life. But sometimes, a man like me wishes to draw the curtains and sit in the dark."

Don't be mistaken- he isn't entirely heartless or cruel. He does have kindness in him, as we return to the reason for him coming back in the future in the first place. He brought Minerva to set her free in the Wyvern Valleys, because back where he was she was the last of her kind, and that meant her living in solitude. So with this he would be able to bring her sheer joy and happiness among her kind. He's also seen worrying over Noire in his support with her, showing concern over her pushing herself too hard, so yes while he does his best to keep his distance with people, like his friends, that does not mean he does not care for them. His tough facade also often slips when regarding Minerva, treating her sweetly as he addresses his "Minervykins." While with some he certainly behaves more distant than others, he will try to input some helpful suggestions (seen with Kjelle) or even tag along somewhere (with Inigo) though chances are that's because he didn't want to see a man cry, Inigo, so that could be it too. Though later he does regard that he's glad to make him happy after cheering him up. He even goes as far as to have Laurent check on everyone's state of health and being to then relay it back to him for sake of mind. Of course he could just do it himself, but this IS Gerome we're speaking about.

Now with Morgan as his sister, his attitude seems to change completely with her. He's the exact imagery of a protective older brother, though of course after his parents died all he would have had would be her and Minerva so it isn't a surprise he holds her close and doesn't hide anything from her. Worrying, fretting over injuries, even doing anything he can to make her happy such as helping make new happy memories for her despite having been heartbroken at the thought of her forgetting all about him and their lives spent together. Though, those events are often seen as mentioned with Morgan as his sister but further proves Gerome isn't some heartless stranger. So certainly there's a lot to see and not see when a man does his best to be a stranger in everyone's life and hide under a tough facade.

“He/She showed me that I have a future. That destiny can be defeated. We have to believe we can alter destiny once more and bring him/her back."

Despite all this time believing fate is something a man cannot change himself, he does show to change his thoughts as the story progresses. Such as towards the end, strongly believing then that it is possible to change your fate if you have the strength. And even thinking he can stand up finally once again to prove it is possible. So perhaps, maybe there is a future he can have.

Abilities/Powers: Gerome starts off as a Wyvern Rider when recruited, but given the choice of classing him to the Wyvern Lord class when the opportunity rises. Which is where he stands at the moment. Wyvern Lords are flying units that have higher HP, Strength, and Defense stats, despite their Skill, Speed, and Resistance disadvantage when compared to its Falcon Knight counterparts. They also originate from Wyvern Riders. Wyvern Lords, like other flying classes, are weak against Bows and Wind Magic. Other class abilities can be gained through reclassing or inheriting from his parents. Also he can sew like his mother and be able to understand Minerva's feelings through the sound of her shrieks.
CLASS SKILLS;
RESISTANCE +2 ➣ Increases the user's Resistance by 2.
TANTIVY ➣ Increases the user's Hit and Evasion by 10 if no allies are within a 3 tile radius.
QUICK BURN ➣ Increases Hit and Evasion by 15 at the start of every battle. The effect decreases with each passing Turn.
SWORDBREAKER ➣ Increases the user's Hit Rate and Evasion by 50% when the enemy is equipped with a Sword.
LETHALITY ➣ Allows the user to instantly kill a selected enemy unit. This skill is ineffective against certain characters. This skill is prioritized first over all other skill-activated skills. This is likely because it is the least likely to occur, and the most devastating if activated.

Wyvern: Minerva is your basic wyvern, she isn't as large as dragons can get or even Manakete, but she is decent in size that she's larger than a pegasus and able to be ridden on. While she is capable of flight, breathing fire, and as well as biting and scratching; her basic involvement with Gerome, who is a Wyvern Lord, is that she gives him more movement on the battlefield. Basically the same way a Cavalier uses a horse. She only allows him the extra movement that can be brought through flight, otherwise all the battling is done by Gerome alone.

That isn't to say she won't bite someone or scratch someone if they do something that she doesn't like, as seen with biting Inigo because a friend in her eyes is talking bad about himself. She's a sweetheart and usually always at Gerome's command so she won't be attacking anybody-- unless they attack Gerome, that is.

Items/Weapons:
• silver axe
• brave lance
• hammer

Sample Entry: threads done in a musebox and some in game!
Sample Entry Two:

Here the young Wyvern rider stands off to the side as per usual of his regular routine. Watching from afar, or in the shadows, while everyone busied themselves with activities or with each other's company in conversation. Gerome continues to watch silently before he turns on the spot and leaves the scene behind him. No matter what he was not the kind of person to absorb himself in such events. Even when Robin or Lucina would try to have him come join them in their meeting discussions. Chances to see if he had any inputs he could share. However, he wasn't a leader or tactician, so for what reason would they need him? Right, because everyone's input was valuable. He was better off alone, he wouldn't have anything to share. Besides, he didn't need to get involved too much into these peoples' lives.

As he moves to the far end of the camp, he comes to a stop upon hearing the sound of wings flapping briefly. That is before he sees in the distance a familiar wyvern stretching out her body from her afternoon nap. She gives a loud shriek once she spots him, anything but welcoming to anyone's ears and yet it was the very sound of greeting to his own hearing. A smile shows, making his way over with hands holding out as she places her jaw in them with a purring growl. A hand strokes the long narrow snout while he peers onto her fondly, tilting his head. "You look ready for your evening flight, shall we go Minerva? Then we'll get you cleaned up and ready for tomorrow." The wyvern gives a cry of agreement and joy, eager to go and shows as much with the way her wings flap in notion. So, he pushes up onto her saddle as she drops down to give him room to climb up. Grasping onto the reins, he then turns and without so much a word to anyone in the camp, they both take to the skies.

Of course someone is bound to see the shadow of the wyvern as she makes a half circle and flies overhead and out in a clearer direction. This way no one would be able to follow him, other than his Mo- ..Cherche, and her own Minerva, but the two were incredibly busy with their own activities. Not that he bothered trying to spend any time with her. A sound emits form Minerva as they continue their flight, but Gerome can only stare down at her with slight confusion- did she sound angry? Or was she sad? Perhaps she was upset with him. Of course in truth she was worried, but he attempts to calm the wyvern with a reassuring pet on her neck. Despite her surprising him sometimes, such as not eating father because of her family bond she felt towards him, she still listened to him usually. The fact she was stayed with him all this time meant a lot to him. Without her.. well, what reason would he have to be here?

A sudden bump in flight and he tightens his grip, peering back to the wyvern, "..Sorry, over-thinking will only get us in trouble. Should we head back home?" The wyvern seems to like the sound of those words, not 'camp' but home. He hadn't forgotten his wishes he had for Minerva. Now wasn't the time, but perhaps after this war he will be able to bring her back to the valley and allow her to roam freely with other of her kind. Surrounding herself with familiarity and being able to call that home. Gerome would of course cut his ties, he could be happy with just the company of her. It was what he had planned form the start, why would it be any different now? That is- if they can stop this mess from ever happening. If possible.

( ooc; Just like all the other FE:A kids, Gerome can have different fathers so to be frank: Gerome will be coming from female Robin's timeline, in which his parents are both Cherche and Lon'qu. )

Character Name: Vanozza Cattaneo
Canon: The Borgias
Canon Point: S3E1
Background/History: The series at Wikipedia and Vanozza at The Borgias wiki.
Personality:
For a masque, Vanozza costumed herself as the goddess Juno: goddess of marriage, of fertility, of the hearth, and of the gods. In a place where masks, literal or otherwise, must always be worn and what remains unsaid is typically more important than what is said, her choice is telling.

The matriarch of the Borgia clan carries herself with an eternal air of refinement and calm. She is hardly ever to be seen without a gracious smile. Rodrigo may sit on the chair of St. Peter, a king among kings, but Vanozza is the rock to which the family clings. Her house is their home, a safe place in the viper's nest they have entered with Rodrigo's ascension to the papacy. She accepts them, all the members of her family, their comings and goings, without question and with little censure. She is safety and certainty and steadiness in a world of constant change and shifting alliances. She is the mother, whose love for all is unconditional. This is the image she presents and what she wants others to see, but it is not all she is.

During the first season, we encounter a woman who appears to be losing what she once had. Her lover's passion for her, her daughter's preference, both seem to go to a new woman, Giulia Farnese. Vanozza is jealous, clearly, and she takes steps to try to protect herself. She fights with Rodrigo—in the Vatican!—and demands discretion. The pope will do as he will, but Vanozza refuses to be humiliated. She fears being replaced or cast aside and it is this fear we see motivating her at first. She sacrificed a lot, a good husband, her homeland, stability, to be where she is to lose it all to a pretty face.

Though she is the only one not to bear the Borgia name, Vanozza remains a Borgia. She soon comes into her own and by the time the second season rolls around, she is secure in her position once more. And we get to see how cunning and manipulative she can be.

A renowned courtesan in Spain, in Italy, she is called a whore and looked down upon almost by the entirety of Rome. For Lucrezia's first marriage, she is barred from her own daughter's wedding because of it. She is a woman who knows what is said about her behind her back and rather than be ashamed, she wears it proudly like armor. In fact, she uses it when she must.

When it is Giulia and Lucrezia's prerogative to aid the poor of Rome, they turn to Vanozza for help. She is the one to come up with the solution to their monetary problems: blackmail the cardinals with information found on them in the brothels and she also knows exactly how to get the brothel's madame to part with the information.

Both Cesare and Juan are discomfited when faced with evidence of their mother's common past, specifically her husband Theo, but Vanozza treats him amicably and there is shared fondness between them even after so many years. Nor does she allow anyone to mistreat him. She chastises Cesare when his commentary turns too cutting. When her other son, Juan, attacks Theo, she throws him out of her house. When Juan goes to Rodrigo after the incident, Rodrigo sides with her and orders him to seek her forgiveness.

Her children are the most important things in the world to her. She shields them all as well she can and does her best to help them. After Cesare returns with news that he murdered Lucrezia's first husband who had been abusive towards her, Vanozza admits her disappointment that she was not able to help kill him. She defends them from Rodrigo as well as she's able, even physically intervening to keep Rodrigo from striking Juan. This love and maternal instinct stretches too toward her grandson. Giovanni is the result of an extramarital affair Lucrezia had with a stable boy, but Vanozza loves him and dotes on him as if he were a little prince. But though Vanozza loves deeply, she does not allow it to blind her to others' faults.

Where Rodrigo is oblivious to Juan's growing instability, Vanozza is not only aware, but openly wonders what had happened to her once good child. She is his mother yet she admits she does not grieve as a mother should—a clear sign of the growing disconnect that had existed between mother and son. As she tells Rodrigo, she never wished Juan dead, but there were times when she wished he was never born.

She suspects not all is as it seems between Cesare and Lucrezia and appears to be aware of both Cesare's growing monstrousness and of Lucrezia's lustful appetite. She confronts both about it, though as her children are now adults and capable of making their own decisions her effectiveness is limited. Although rarely spoken of and mostly hinted at, she fears her children to a degree and what they may be capable of. A mother's nightmare, they have become strangers to her.

Where her children are reckless, Vanozza paces herself and waits. Her fit of jealousy aside, she is capable of remaining levelheaded even under the direst circumstances. She does not panic easily or show her hand prematurely. She understands the precariousness of their situation, how everything they have is dependent on Rodrigo as the pope, and how quickly everyone will turn on them the moment Rodrigo is no longer part of the picture. She is wise and clever, thus her advice tends to be among the best, something her family is aware of for she is the confidante to Rodrigo, Cesare, Lucrezia, and even Giulia.

Giulia asks her help in retaining Rodrigo's affections and Vanozza's advice works. When Rodrigo needs help convincing Lucrezia to marry, he turns to Vanozza who persuades her daughter to at least entertain the suitors. It is Vanozza's help that Cesare enlists when he needs to hide something from Rodrigo, Cesare who has made a life of hiding in the shadows.

Rodrigo tells her he feels safe with her and admits to Cesare that Vanozza is the one who knows him best. When all is said and done, it is always to Vanozza he turns. She knows this and she cultivates it.

After his poisoning, Rodrigo has a period of impotence. Vanozza advises Giulia on how to cut her losses and get the best possible deal she can while letting Rodrigo know Giulia is dissatisfied and approached her for help. She is effectively driving them apart while helping them both and making herself the major recipient of Rodrigo's trust, an enviable position.

With Vanozza, kindness and cunning typically go hand in hand. As befits a Borgia.

Personality:

Nia is essentially the physical embodiment of optimism and trust. She is an incredibly cheerful and sweet young girl who has everyone’s best interest in mind. She does what she can to help others and to make them happy, even if it can sometimes backfire and end up hurting them. Despite that, she always has good intentions, and never seeks out to hurt others in any way (the only exception being Guame, who she slapped in a moment of horror and disgust). She reacts sweetly and politely to pretty much any person. It seems that unless a person is trying to hurt her or is screaming at her, she will most likely react with a smile on her face, she is just that kind of person. She sees the best in others, and views practically any situation in an optimistic way.

She comes from a very sheltered life, being kept away from the outside world and only taught specific things. Because of this, she is extremely naïve. Even after her time with Team Dai-Gurren, there is still much she doesn’t know about the world or the people in it, and it is evident by the many questions she can ask. From certain items and customs to phrases and speech, there are many things she still hasn’t learned. She even has a hard time picking up on certain tones unless they are 100% obvious. That being said, she loves to talk to others and learn about these unknown aspects of life, and doesn’t seem to be too scared of the unknown. In fact, during her first moments out of the palace, she encounters a very menacing gunman, but she doesn’t seem very scared of it, even after Simon’s panicked reaction.

A great trait to couple with her amazing naivety is her incredible ability to trust practically anyone. She puts huge amounts of faith into people, and sometimes it can backfire on her. Before being cast out of the Palace, Nia trusted those she came into contact with, but especially her father. She later admits that her father was pretty much “her entire life”, but he only ended up hurting her. As time goes on, though, she makes better judgment calls with Team Dai-Gurren. While Simon is the one she trusts the most, she also places her safety in the hands of others, Yoko being another major case. As she aimed a rifle at Nia’s head, Nia knew to trust her and her skills as an expert, even with bullets passing just inches from her ears. She has an unshakeable belief in her friends, and trusts them with every fiber of her being. Whether it is with lethal weapons pointed at her, being pulled to the bottom of the ocean, or laid beaten in the dirt, she has no trouble being calm in the face of danger, because she knows she can count on her friends to pull through.

She can be very brave, and also very reckless. She does not hesitate to jump into the fray if she feels it is necessary, going out on her own to confront the hell bent Adiane not only once, but twice. She also put herself in danger by going with Simon to confront Lordgenome, but her desire to confront her father seemed to put any fear away. Her bravery can also be connected to her trust. As she was confronted by Guame with a gun pushed to her face, she sternly spoke of her trust in Simon without a single quiver in her voice. There were times when she knew she could not go out herself, but quick and witty thinking allowed her to help out as much as she could, and she used such thinking to save countless lives during a battle with Guame, using a large projection system to put “herself” on the front lines and ask people to calm themselves as people were blindly running into a death trap.

If Team Dai-Gurren had a cheerleader, Nia would be it. She loves her friends and will fight with and for them until her very last breath, all with a smile on her face.

Abilities/Powers: While (spoilers) Nia is actually a Very Important Person with Very Important Powers, said powers are not yet a thing. Nia currently has no supernatural abilities.

Items/Weapons: Her Team Dai Gurren hoodie, and a green gem given to her by Simon.

[[ there seems to be a very happy looking young girl on the feed. it's a close-up of her smiling face and rather large (and oddly colored) eyes as she tries to, with little success, prop the phone up. after a few fumbles, she gives up, opting to hold the phone out in front of her instead. ]] Ah, hello, everyone! Good day to you! [[ she does a small curtsy to the camera, although most of the action is below the frame and remains unseen. ]]

I hope you are all doing well. I wanted to let you all know I found something nice! [[ she pauses, leaning over to grab something. it's a CD! and, since nia is pointing it the wrong way, it's easy to tell it's not scratched beyond repair. ]] I believe this is one of those discs that play music, yes? I do not have the device that makes it play, but if any of you have one, I would be happy to share this with you!

I'm sure it will be a very fun time. Please, do let me know if you wish to partake! [[ and she beams, as if listening to classical music with others is her idea of a super fun time and she just can not wait to do it! ]]

Sample Entry Two:

Nia wasn't very happy with the lack of food in Haven. Cooking was something she enjoyed very much: it was her job, after all! And it was a hobby she adored. She understood there wasn't much she could do about it, and she was thankful for the food she could find to sustain herself, but the itch to cook something was getting her nerves up a little.

And what added insult to injury was the fact she found cooking equipment. Granted, it was only one very beaten and rusty pan, but it was something! And she couldn't use it at all! She wanted to make meals for all the lovely people that had helped her during her time there. There wasn't a lot Nia could do, but she could cook, and it was bothersome to her to not be able to repay others' kindness and good deeds in the way she knew best. The woes of being a (terrible) cook in the middle of a land of rubble and cans of "spam" and unfamiliar beans.

"I will find something else to do for them...!" she speaks to herself, but she carries a tone of confidence and reassurance that should generally be reserved for cheering up other people. But, that's not how Nia rolls, so her small, one-person pep talk continues, "There must be something else I can do. I just have to find it, first!"
