APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN!
The next processing date is Friday 11th October

IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE

We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every two weeks, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. If you wish to request a specific apartment, please do so in the relevant part of the application. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Every attempt will be made to place a character in their chosen apartments, though this may not always be possible depending on the slots available.

Applications are open constantly, but are only processed every other Friday at 7PM EST. The Saturday following acceptance, an IC mingle log will be posted for characters to be introduced to the game.

We now have a test drive community at [community profile] haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old.

Character Name: Izumo Kamiki
Canon: Ao no Exorcist
Canon Point: ch. 26, after rescuing Rin
Background/History: AnE WIKI

Personality: Izumo is often described as a tsundere – that is, someone who can appear very cold and callous one second, and then very soft and caring in the next. But rather than alternating between the two distinct personalities, Izumo instead takes great pains to maintain that hard, thick-skinned persona of a young woman who couldn’t really care less about what anyone does and thinks about her.

From a young age, Izumo had been shunned by her peers, thought of as weird and mocked her because of her abilities to sense and interact with demons. Accepting this, Izumo then spent most of her childhood keeping only to herself and paying little attention to others around her. However, some time in her elementary school days, one of her classmates, Paku, decided to reach out to her despite their other classmates’ warnings, and the two have been the best of friends since then. This did not, however, encourage Izumo to start reaching out to people, or to start forgiving them for their cruel treatment of her. Indeed, she continued to remain closed off to most others, and only carefully stretched her range of value from just herself to her only other friend.

For the most part, Izumo is harsh, stubborn, haughty, and brutally honest. She doesn’t go out of her way to speak very often, but when she does talk, she doesn’t hold back. She is a loud-mouth when prompted, and among her peers she doesn’t bother to censor herself. Hardened from that childhood of hearing taunt after taunt, degrading whisper after degrading whisper, Izumo doesn’t fear any words that might be thrown back at her… to an extent. When Bon made the comment, “You really are a nasty piece of work,” Izumo readily and nonchalantly retorted with, “I’m perfectly aware of that, thank you, and?” But when he went on to say how that sort of attitude would drive people away, she paused and looked considerably affected by it. Before that, she had had a private confrontation with Paku, who had essentially told her the exact same thing about her attitude. Before then, it had never bothered Izumo – in fact, she seemed to prefer such a harsh attitude, since it kept most people far enough away that she wouldn’t ever have to listen to their whispers again – but after hearing her very own best friend express such sentiments, it had shattered her perceptions considerably. Since then, Izumo has been shown to slowly but surely open up a little more, as well as be a little more considerate in terms of her words and actions.

She is a very driven young woman, evidenced in her status as the class’ best student. Her self-confidence is a defining trait, which makes her a great candidate for a Tamer. She is honest to anyone who will listen (and sometimes to those who refuse to) and even to herself. Her self-preservation and confidence are what drives her, as well as her desire to grow strong enough to protect herself and those she cares about. She can be very antagonistic at times, rising easily to baits and just as easily casting them herself. Many of her class’ punishments have actually been a direct result from confrontations with other classmates she has either started or continued. She is simply too stubborn to back down and too haughty to let a perfectly good taunt slide.

Very few have been fortunate enough to see the softer side of her. As harsh and critical and unmerciful as she can be, she has also proven to be infallibly loyal and faithful to those she deems worthy of it. When Paku confessed wariness and reservations about remaining in the Exorcist Academy, Izumo was quick to vow to be strong and smart enough to protect them both. When their other classmates began to draw away from Rin after it was revealed that he was, in fact, Satan’s son, Izumo was the only one to sit beside him and treat him as she has always been. There are not many people that she allows herself to open up to, but to those that she has, she has proven to be just as protective of them as she is of herself.

Abilities/Powers: Izumo is what is known as a Tamer in her canon’s universe. Tamers are a classification of Exorcists that can summon and control demons using magical circles either drawn on the ground or on slips of paper, with the added application of the Tamer's blood. Tamers are said to be very rare among Exorcists, for not only do Tamers require natural skill, but they must also have strong spiritual fortitude in order to control the demons they summon. If at any time a Tamer lacks confidence or force of will, the demons can always turn on them. Though she is still technically an Esquire (that is, a student in Exorcist cram school who has passed the Esquire Authorization Exam, she has already proven to be a formidable Tamer. On her first try alone, she was able to summon and command two Kitsune demons, named Mike and Uke. She also possesses great skill and knowledge in their many uses, able to use the demons to fight, summon sacred wine, and complete other such tasks for her.

Sample Entry:
[ at first, a sound - soft and derisive, a mere exhalation of breath that sounds both unimpressed and concerned. a moment later, an image flickers on to the network, streaming a video broadcast live. it's a young woman, holding her cell phone out at arm's length, a deep frown set on her face before, a second later, she's breaking out into a high, girlish laugh. ]

Funny! Hilarious! Good job, you got me real good. [ and then her expression clears entirely, looking about as far from amused as a person can get. ] Is that what you want to hear?

[ did the temperature just drop around here...? ]

Joke's over now. I don't have time for whatever it is you think you're getting out of this. I have things to do, so cut it out before I make you.

[ she lets that sink in for a second before the video cuts off. ]

Sample Entry Two:
Once the video was over and Izumo was sure there was no one around to hear her, she let out a sharp, stifled whimper. Without the network seeing her, without any eyes to judge and consider her weak, she shivered, eyes darting around the quiet room she'd woken up to find herself in. It didn't look like any place she recognized, definitely nothing from Kyoto, or even the Academy.

An impromptu training session, maybe? No, that'd be stupid - they were in the middle of a crisis in Kyoto, and even if they were mere Esquires, every hand was necessary when it came to taking down - or at least containing - the Impure King.

It didn't make sense. She shouldn't be here. Yet here she was.

"...whatever." It didn't sound as convicted as she would have liked, but the intent was there. She might be stuck somewhere else right now, but like hell she was going to let it stay that way for long.

Character Name: Mako
Canon: Legend of Korra
Canon Point: Mid point of End Game, before the final scenes.
Background/History: LoK wiki
Previous Game History: N/A
Personality: Mako is a very serious person, being responsible for raising and protecting his brother from a very young age. Compared to Bolin’s easy going and flirtatious personality, Mako is distant and cold at first. He doesn’t tend to react well to people trying to get very close to him and Bolin, and it takes proving that they have something to offer him that would make it worthwhile. With Korra, it’s her ability to waterbend, which keeps them in the pro-bending tournament. With Asami, it’s that she’s charming, and willing to provide him food at a fancy restaurant for free, though it certainly didn’t hurt that she was willing to steamroll over any of his objections.

Mako is very dedicated and loyal to his brother, willing to go to any extreme to save him from his own stupidity, including impersonating Equalist supporters to try and save him. He tries to measure his advice with him, and tends to take Bolin’s outbursts in stride. He takes his responsibility as Bolin’s protector seriously. And he’s rather attached to the scarf that he wears, it being the last memento he has of his father. Wherever he goes, the scarf goes with him.

His control of his emotions is top notch, as he has the ability to lightning bend, which is an insanely difficult form of fire bending, and only those with the most control of their emotions can master it.

However, despite mastering control of his emotions, this does not necessarily mean that he has a good grasp on why he feels a certain way. Due to the lifestyle of poverty that he and his brother lived, Mako very often set aside his own wants and desires, as well as any reservations he had about what he was doing, to ensure that he and his brother were able to survive, even if not necessarily comfortably. So, what he has in control, he lacks almost completely in understanding.

This is especially noticeable when you look at his approach to his relationship with Asami and Korra—instead of realizing and acknowledging his feelings for Korra and having open and honest communication with Asami, he defaults to not wanting to deal with it until the ‘ideal time’ though he wouldn’t honestly be able to tell you when that ideal time is.

Abilities/Powers: Mako is a firebender, which means he can essentially create fire with various bending moves, that are usually based off of martial arts stances-- however Mako's personal style leans towards scrappy, and is based more on boxing than on the traditional firebending. Despite that, he has a lot of talent with firebending, and doesn't even have to perform bending moves to use his firebending.

He can use the 'breath of fire' ability, which is basically what it sounds like: breathing fire. He also is able to lightningbend, which goes back into the control of his emotions that he has. Lightningbending is extremely difficult to master, but Mako doesn't really have a problem with performing it, even if he does so only rarely, and when shocking someone is more effective than throwing fire at their faces.

He also has above average speed and strength. He shows no problem lifting his brother and carrying him back to the bending arena, even though his brother does have some significant muscle on him, but his key strength is really on his speed and flexibility. It's what his scrappy style attempts to maximize.
Sample Entry: Sample 1, Sample 2, note this is memory loss'd Mako ;;
Sample Entry Two: Mako exhaled, trying to recount the places that he could go to lose track of time for a few hours. But as he ticked them off, he had a reason to avoid them waiting in the wings. He ended up pissing off the owner of that club the last time he was there, a bar was out of the question since there was a match tomorrow, and lately his old haunts had Triads crawling everywhere, so it was better to just stay away. Unfortunately. He needed to avoid the places with gambling-- not because he was likely to gamble, but because it'd just put him in a worse mood than he already was in.

He rubbed his temples. He and Bolin really needed to work out a system for this rather than just finding out at the last second. If he could plan on Bolin's crazy fangirls being there, he wouldn't be stuck tracing a path through various neighborhoods in Republic City for a few hours, or at least a long enough time for said fangirl to go away.

Unfortunately, he was fairly certain Bolin didn't necessarily plan on finding someone every game. Mako paused. No, wait, he was the older brother. He could set some ground rules on this subject, right? No fangirls in the locker room.

... But that was an awkward conversation he wasn't sure he actually wanted to have. Great.

Character Name: Dean Winchester
Canon: Supernatural
Canon Point: 4x21- When the Levee Breaks
Background/History: Here we go.
Previous Game History: N/A

Personality:

During the first season of the show, Dean is mostly portrayed as a young man with a very healthy amount of humor ready for display at any given moment. He often makes light of situations this way, no matter how futile things might appear at the given time though. As is, during the beginning of Dean's and Sam's hunting career together again, Dean is a lot more confident, outspoken and alive, in more ways than one.

As said, Dean likes to joke around a lot. He has a habit of poking fun at almost anything, always drawing comparisons between people and situations by referring to popular pop culture things and people. Even when serious, Dean isn't able to completely kick the habit, though it is during times like this that he resorts to simpler means of humor like ridiculous and insulting nicknames. As an example he often calls Uriel, an Angel, 'Junkless.'

Sam is Dean's main source of energy and it is in the earlier days that Dean truly believes himself to be capable of keeping his younger brother out of harm and serving as Sam's guardian against anything and everything. He relishes the time he gets to spend with Sam during their hunts, this being the closest to family he has at the moment. Dean doesn't like to show his weakness' though, hardly ever actually telling Sam how he feels.

It is only under crucially critical times that Dean truly opens up and this being also hardly for anyone else but Sam. Even then the information --the thoughts, feelings and whatever else is on his mind-- has to be pried out of Dean and only a few can accomplish that. He'd rather cause an awkward situation by changing the subject if confronted by a out right question about his feelings.

The first major blow to Dean's usually confident and smiley-self is when his father, John Winchester, dies. Dean's anguish over this is very, very clear though he denies any attempts made by Sam to talk about it, this thus causing him to take out his anger in a different way; killing more supernatural beings, and doing so in more brutal methods. He also lashes out more, his anger building faster as he tail-spins from everything he's feeling since the death of his father.. His judgment is clouded and the world around him seems more black and white than ever before, making hunting a lot more simpler and inhuman. Slowly though, Dean is able to come to terms with John's death, letting his older self back-- though never truly being who he was back when his father was alive.

When Dean is pulled out of Hell by Castiel, he comes back broken. There is no denying that Dean isn't as strong as he was before, his confidence having been beaten to almost a breaking point. He is a lot more careful with his decisions and a lot more protective of Sam. He is also a lot more scared; for Sam, for himself and for the world. Having experienced Hell, he does not want to let it break loose on earth, making his judgment frail, not wanting to make hasty decisions.

Still, even whilst suffering with the heavy burdens on his life, Dean tries to keep a positive appearance, though with time-- and to anyone closer to Dean, it is very obvious that he isn't all right. Ready to help people with supernatural problems, Dean tries to keep his personal feelings away from the job, and it is when faced with heavy problems that Dean tries to tune out all of his emotions; both positive and negative ones, this making him cool, calm and efficient.

With the war raging on between demons and angels, it's becoming harder and harder for Dean to just bounce back to his normal self, his character growing more tired and thus colder with each passing event.

This becomes even more apparent during the next year, once Lucifer walks free from his cage. Things happen -- bad things, that change Dean a lot. A sort of cold harshness mixed with worry and guilt over doing the right thing opposed to what he wants to do makes itself apparent in him as the decisions he and his brother make affect the very outcome of both their lives and pretty much the rest of the world. Over the course of the year, he starts to care less and less, even once hitting a point where he simply wants to give up. It's only thanks to Sam and Cas that he doesn't, but never before, really, has he hit such a low, and although he does finally get out of that slump, it's only barely.

After the Apocalypse, after Sam jumps into the Pit with Lucifer and Michael, Dean seeks to keep his promise to his brother and try to live a normal life. With a year spent as a civilian, Dean undergoes probably the most drastic change in personality since...forever. He calms down a lot and matures, learning about a different kind of family life with Lisa and Ben. During all this, while a lot of mellower sides are brought out in him, the hunter in Dean also dulls and is forgotten for a while-- until it's forced to resurface once more. And although he does, at least to some extent enjoy the year he spends with Lisa and Ben, there's still that undertone of depression in him. Things simply aren't the same, aren't good at all for him when he knows Sam is most likely suffering down in Hell.

Things are difficult for Dean when Sam comes back, and some of the harsher things in the life of a hunter suddenly seem too black and white to him. His past-self clashes with the person he is today, though he tries to keep both in a balance. It's not always easy though, and thus he worries and stresses a lot since he has been out of the game for a while. The stress and worry over his brother finally find a more sensible sours when he finds out that his brother doesn't have a soul, thus Sam's weird behavior. Everything makes a bit more sense, but none of his stress really calms down. His brother would sell him for a soda if he was really thirsty, and seems to overall just be about anyone else but his brother Sam.

What finally, and for the first time in a very, very long period, gets a real, genuine smile from Dean, and has him appearing a lot lighter, and just happier, is when Sam finally gets his soul back. Though it doesn't last long, with the world under a new threat, while Dean is on a hunt with the newly soul-restored Sam, he acts way more like himself from the past. He smiles, jokes and sort of seems to mold back into his old self; the annoying but caring older brother he was in the first few years of hunting (seasons 1-3), before the loom of the oncoming Apocalypse.

[personal profile] faithlessly 2012-10-07 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Abilities/Powers:

Hunting; As said, Dean is a hunter. He knows how to track an enemy without being seen, knows how to lure them out to begin with and not blow his cover. He has nerves of steel when the situation calls for it, and he takes his job very seriously. He's been in the game for most of his life, from the moment his dad started training him for the role of a hunter, to the moment he took on his first hunt -- up to the very end of the Apocalypse.

Dean knows his job. He knows how to deal with his prey, and even if a new creature of some kind pops up, he's very good at figuring out the hows and why's of eradicating the new species. His knowledge on mythology and such is very extensive, and along the ways he has even picked up a few skills in spells himself. Fro example, he knows how to use the angel banishing spell.

He knows how to handle a hunt, from the very early stages of purely asking questions, to finally taking out whatever creature crossed his path. He can be stealthy, and come up with last-minute changes to plans that end up working out, such as a sudden to find an escape route, or change tactics on how to handle the creature he's hunting. His tactical skills often step in as well in the form of being able to read people easily, and knowing how to manipulate them into whatever role he wants them to play.

He's a con-man, able to lie and deceive his way to information that may be inaccessible to a normal person. His skills as a hunter have also lead to him being very skilled at quite a few things that wouldn't sit well with the law. He can pick locks, break into tightly secured buildings and hot-wire cars. Dean also knows how police departments and other such systems work, being able to both impersonate them and avoid them when needed with surprising ease.

Another trait picked up from his father which also plays into his life as hunter, is how well-versed he is in the skills of a mechanic. Dean keeps his '67 Chevy Impala in top condition and has an extensive knowledge on automobiles and engines alike.

Weapon handling; As a hunter, Dean knows his firearms and other monster-handling equipment better than he knows most day-to-day items. From a very early age, Dean was left with the task of looking after his brother while their dad went off on a hunt. John Winchester would give his eldest son a gun and the orders to look after Sam, and to shoot first, ask later. This lead to Dean knowing how to use a gun at a very early age, and by the time he was 11, he'd built his own gun.

This also lead to Dean growing up very skilled with melee weapons, and he is also an exceptionally good shot. He is often seen with weapons such as a chromed Colt 1911, presumably a gun he got from his father, and also a Desert Eagle which is often rounded up with salt bullets. Dean also knows how to handle a sniper rifle, and a machete-- and other large knives and blades.

When all else fails, don't count him out as being uncreative, for Dean'll use just about anything as a weapon if the situation turns grim like that.

Hand-to-hand combat; When things get a little too up close and personal, or he doesn't want to hurt whoever he is fighting, Dean often goes with hand-to-hand combat. It is never revealed what kind of style he uses, but from what is seen, Dean is very skilled at subduing and disarming a person with no weapons of his own. He is also able to take on supernatural creatures this way, though they might be physically stronger than him.

Torture; While in Hell, Dean was Alistair's student, and learned the skills of inflicting torture. He knows how to inflict the absolute maximum amount of pain on a person without having them die, and was hailed as a skilled torturer.

Sample Entry: Dean Winchester, ladies and gentlemen.
Sample Entry Two:

Dean's pretty sure he hadn't had enough to drink the night before to warrant waking up in an unknown place, not when he'd been too busy nursing a bruised and beaten body thanks to his little brother. Let's not even talk about the wounded pride. But Sam isn't his main concern for once, no, the unfamiliar place around him is quickly triggering alarm bells in his head.

He's up and about in no time, brushing aside the way his entire body hurts in favor of getting to the bottom of where the hell am I?

"This better be freaking' good.." He'd been damn busy trying to stop his brother from becoming the very thing they hunt, while the last of the 66 Seals was well on its way to being broken. Life is more than dandy for one Dean Winchester, and he really doesn't need a pit-stop at Creepville right now. But as is his life, he doesn't get much say in these matters and the first door he finds is one he's currently busting through.

"Anyone in here? Hello?" Of course there's not answer, wouldn't want things to be too easy.

The next few doors lead to similar results; nothing. By now he's starting to wish he at least had something to fight, frustration bubbling under his skin as the empty town continues to stretch around him. Honestly, if the angels or demons wanted to teach him some sort of lesson, they could've done with something more creative.

Character Name: Sam Winchester
Canon: Supernatural
Canon Point: 1x18
Background/History: one and two
Personality: Sam's personality is deeply defined by several key events that shaped his life and his psyche. When Sam was only six months old, a demon named Azazel, or the yellow-eyed demon, came into his nursery and fed him his blood. Sam's mother, Mary, interrupted the demon and was murdered for it. That murder sent the Winchesters on a lifelong quest for vengeance. Sam's father moved them from place to place, living in cheap motels on credit card frauds. Until he was eight years old, Sam was told that his mother had died in a car accident and that his father was a traveling salesman, but being a bright and naturally curious child he found that hard to believe and read his father's journal that explained all the monstrosities he had faced. Since his father – John – was never around he confronted his older brother Dean about it, but being raised the way he had, even at that young age his reaction to learning that monsters are real was to go to bed early for the night and hide his tears; Winchester men were never big on sharing their emotions. However Sam never quite fit in with his family. He always felt like an outsider looking in, both out in the world of normal people, where he wasn't allowed to remain for longer than his father's local hunts took place but always tried to make friends in these short escapades to normality, and with his own family where he felt trapped; bound to them by the murder of a mother he didn't even remember. In a choice between the two in the past and in his current canon point, Sam prefers normality, and struggles to achieve it. Since he couldn't attend a regular school he assigned himself his own reading lists, he got into Stanford and fought with his father to go to school despite the fact he was practically disowned for it. Sam has a selfish way of seeing the world; he didn't look right or left to try to understand his family's motivations, the pain and fears his father dealt with, but instead only concentrated on the wrongs done to him. He acted his age, as opposed to his older brother who spent his life putting his family first. At school he made friends, met a girl he was planning to marry – Jessica – and had an interview scheduled for law school. He was all set to live a regular life cut away from his family and their gruesome line of work. However, Jessica's murder changed all that.

After Jessica was murdered, Sam saw one thing and one thing only before his eyes – revenge. He became blinded by it, and could think only of finding his father so that he could join him on the hunt for the yellow eyed demon. He was willing to ignore other people in need of help on the way, with Dean serving as his sole anchor to reality outside his narrow worldview. He became almost consumed with rage and guilt – ready to sacrifice himself in a heartbeat for the sake of his vengeance, ready to snap at people for not understanding what lurked in the dark and more than anything, ready to struggle against his father every step of the way because he blames him for the life he and his brother lead and vicariously deep down although he knows it's irrational, that life led to Jessica's murder. It was easy for Sam to resent his father, because they had always butted heads, probably because the two were so alike – very opinionated, very stubborn, and very easily obsessed. Sam is the sort of man who always thinks he knows the answer; he's used to being the golden boy, the genius, which is why it frustrates him so deeply when he's being overruled, ignored or kept out of the loop. That mindset also leads him to believe that no one can understand him, that he can't confide certain things even in Dean. Secrecy has always been a part of Sam's nature, but it grows with canon; the more questionable the things he dabbles with are the more jealous he is of his privacy. Despite all his guilt, he's always known what he's worth, what he brings to the table, and the more he's sheltered, the more he struggles against it. He has very little patience for nonsense and it's for a reason that Dean fondly calls him 'bitch'.

Hunting with Dean, Sam found his people skills extremely handy – Dean would joke that with his "puppy face" Sam could get people to believe anything. In truth Sam has a way of connecting with people, empathizing with them and gaining their trust – deep down, he's a genuine nice guy and that trait flows through. Additionally, until the addition of Bobby to the show the burden of research fell mostly on Sam's shoulders, however being a studious person by nature he took to it immediately and efficiently. Sam and Dean's main way of coping with the horrors they've witnessed is having a healthy sense of humor, usually directed at each other. Sam's humor is mostly sarcastic and somewhat childish – pranks such as gluing Dean's hand to his beer bottle crack him up.

Jessica's murder brought, in addition to the obvious horror and regression to hunting, a new dimension of horror into Sam's life – shortly before her death he began having nightmares about her very murder which then played out before his eyes. Sam blamed himself for not believing his vision – not standing by her side when she needed him to protect her. For that reason he also became deeply obsessed with those visions – desperate to save whoever they showed him, desperate to avoid another repeat of Jessica. These visions led him to Max – a boy who shared a different version of his own story – his mother was murdered by the yellow eyed demon in his nursery at the age of 6 months after he was given demon's blood – although of that detail he was yet unaware – and had gained psychic abilities due to it that began exactly when Sam's visions had. The encounter with Max terrified and shocked Sam, and his obsession and fear of his own abilities grew tremendously because Max had taken his own abilities to the darkest of places and Sam was horrified of ending up the same way. He desperately tried to save Max partly because his moral code wouldn't let him abandon a human being – Sam came back into hunting after a break of two years which he had spent in a normal surrounding; that and his natural aversion to the hunter's lifestyle made him much softer than most hunters – more humane - and partly because if he saw Max as a monster, he had to see himself as a monster and he needed to believe that he could be saved, that he could be a hero and not a monster.

At the end of season one, the Winchesters believed they closed in on the yellow eyed demon, and Sam believed that his life as a hunter was approaching its end ("Dean, we are a family. I'd do anything for you. But things will never be the way they were before….I don't want them to be. I'm not gonna live this life forever. Dean when this is all over, you're gonna have to let me go my own way." –season 1 episode 16), but as they closed in on him later (shortly after my chosen canon point, but it demonstrates the depth of Sam's desperation) Dean had to physically restrain Sam from running into a burning building and committing suicide in an attempt to kill the demon. Sam's obsession with killing the demon outweighed any form of reason in his mind. At that point however Dean managed to get through to him and when the demon possessed their father Sam didn't shoot him despite the fact the man had begged him to because he had come around to Dean's point of view – that there was something more important than revenge – and that was family. Dean is the one man capable of bringing Sam back from his own inner darkness, but even he is faced with much resistance from Sam; the younger Winchester always struggled with keeping his horrors to himself, only divulging them to his brother when he had absolutely no other choice.

Sam is methodical and organized, both traits that help him immensely with his research. That point is best demonstrated in episode 3x11 because he was left on his own; his organization is usually lost behind Dean's clutter otherwise. In that episode, Sam spends his days running down every possible lead one by one. He remembers every little supposedly insignificant detail in the time loop he was trapped in from the exact words Dean used to taunt him to the flavor of syrup the man at the bar puts on his pancakes. When he was pulled out of the loop into a life without Dean, Sam's life narrowed into a methodical hunt in which there was no room for social connections or distractions. His motel rooms were meticulous, clean and organized, and so was the arsenal in his trunk. Sam is very jealous of his privacy, his few possessions and their organization; he and Dean share everything but he cannot stand it when his brother's mess invades his personal space.

Abilities/Powers: Supernaturally speaking, when Sam was 6 months old he was given demon's blood, which enables him to access some psychic abilities. At this point in canon all he´s able to do is be the passive receiver of futuristic visions concerning the demon whose blood he drank, or more precisely, his victims, and once he was able to telekinetically move a closet that had him locked in, however that has been a very desperate situation and although he found himself in plenty of other desperate situations since, he has never been able to recreate that feat. The demon's blood also made him immune to the psychic attacks of demons and other people who were given demon's blood like himself, and able to perceive the presence of other supernatural entities like ghosts and poltergeists at times. Later in canon he learns to do many other things but they are connected to the consumption of more demon's blood which shouldn't be of importance in game however to detail it- he became able to exorcise and even kill demons with his mind, as well as amplify his telekinetic abilities.

Naturally speaking, Sam was raised as a hunter. He´s learned how to defend himself probably since he was old enough to walk, in a range of techniques from empty hand combat to the handling of fire arms and a verity of cold weapons; knives, axes, ect. After rejoining the family business with his brother Dean, Sam improved those skills greatly; the first half of season 1 is mostly made out of Sam getting caught and Dean rescuing him, but with time he improves and even saves Dean a few times. These skills include Latin spells, the painting of Devil's Traps and the use of talismans, however they are all a matter of knowledge rather than supernatural ability – anyone can learn to use them; Sam simply has a few memorized, mostly the devil's trap and exorcism spells.

Hunting however requires more than mere fighting skills, therefore Sam is also an expert tracker and researcher. It usually falls on him, especially at the beginning of canon, to find jobs and discover which monster lurked in the dark. In addition, hunters of the supernatural play a double role of both hunters and prey- to the very things they hunt, to law enforcers, and at times even to other hunters, therefore Sam has also learned how to make himself scarce. He´s an excellent hacker, he knows how to commit credit card frauds to procure finances, how to fake ids, how to break and enter, pick locks and so on and so forth. And of course, Sam is an extraordinary liar, passing himself as a priest, FBI agent, or whatever the job requires him to be.

Performing some basic medical procedures is also crucial knowledge for hunters; sanitation, pulling bullets out of wounds, sewing wounds, applied pressure in the right spots, bandaging, and all forms of first aid.

Sample Entry: Right here!

Sample Entry Two:
Sam didn't remember falling asleep, and that was enough to sound the alarm in his head. And speaking of his head, it felt like it was about to explode. Could it be a side effect of the Shtriga's attack? It did drain some of his 'life force', so maybe he should have expected this…did he faint? His hand reached up to rub his temples and pinch the bridge of his nose. A deep breath, and another…this wasn't working, he needed an aspirin.

"Dean?" He croaked out, his eyes still shut, expecting his brother to be somewhere around. When moments passed with no reply, annoyance struck roots in his mind. If he left him at some motel to suffer through this on his own so he could go out and get laid there will be a bitchy hell to pay. "Dean?" he tried again, pulling himself upwards, his eyes fluttering open.

What he saw before him made him jump upright in bed. What the hell is this. This wasn't like any motel he and Dean ever crashed at; for one there were way too many damn beds. They always got private rooms, in their line of work privacy's a necessity, they don't even let the maids go in their rooms, so the last thing they'll ever do is rent a place with four other people! There had to be an explanation for this, and when your last name is Winchester that explanation could be either of the following two – 1. Dean thinks he's funny again. 2. Something evil is going on.

He jumped off his bed, ignoring the constant thumping of his brain complaining about having to function in these conditions, and made his way to the nearest bed. The man lying in it was unfamiliar to him, and as far as he knew Dean had no friends to call on to prank him. Even if he did go to the trouble of speaking to men outside the hunting game, he definitely wouldn't make a good enough impression to convince them to help him with this. No, this was way too elaborate to be one of Dean's schemes, the guy is a jerk but he's not that creative – if he woke up bald or itching he could blame his brother but as it stands – it seemed about time to get really worried. So the reasonable conclusion seemed to be that these other people were brought here just like himself. Are they captive? Can they leave? And where the hell is Dean – was he somewhere out there or was he tearing up a town trying to find him? First thing first, he had to ascertain these people's condition, so he leaned down over the bed and placed his hand on the shoulder of the man occupying it, shaking him lightly.

"Hey – wake up – are you ok?"

Character Name: Anders
Canon: Dragon Age (Awakening and 2)
Canon Point: At the end of Act 2.

Background/History: The Dragon Age Wikia. Note also that Anders' canon Hawke will be an aggressive and sarcastic male warrior, and I'll consider Anders to have been rivalled by him (and not romanced, though Anders showed interest). His canon Hero of Ferelden is Elissa Cousland, who recruited him into the Grey Wardens.
Personality: Anders has always despised feeling trapped. He tried to escape from the circle at least seven times, and didn't give up even after he was put in isolation for a year. He hates the Circle and what it stands for too much to ever settle down there, even at the risk of being executed or made tranquil (have all his dreams and emotions severed, leaving someone an empty but very cooperative shell). In fact, he nearly was executed at some point, but even that was not enough to stop him wanting to escape. The Grey Wardens recruited him to save him, but he later on ran away from them as well, when they took his cat away from him.

His time with the Grey Wardens did affect him, though. He enjoyed travelling with the Hero of Ferelden (who gave him the cat in the first place), and had, in fact, offered to help out from the start. And when Vigil's Keep, the Grey Warden's fortress, was attacked, Anders gave it his all to protect it. It wasn't working for the Grey Wardens he hated, or having to fight for their cause; he only left after they started controlling his life. That, and all the travelling in the Deep Roads - giant tunnels below ground - they had to do.

What affected Anders most during this period was his encounter with the spirit Justice. While Anders can be incredibly loyal to those he cares about - explaining why he fought so hard to protect Vigil's Keep - he has never been interested in fighting for the sake of all mages. He might hate the circle, but it's risky enough just trying to save himself. Justice kept questioning him on this, though, asking why he never did anything for his fellow mages, and this slowly started to affect the way Anders saw the world. So when he met Justice again later, he agreed to let the spirit possess him, so that they could work together.

The two, unfortunately, had a negative affect on each other once joined. Anders is now more determined than ever to fight for all mages, but his anger at the current situation warped Justice into a spirit of vengeance instead. Anders realised this could potentially make him into a threat, but their common cause was too important for him to regret his decision. It did affect him, though; while previously Anders had been the type to make jokes in nearly every situation, approaching everything with sarcasm, after this he grew more pessimistic, more withdrawn. He'll still make jokes, but they're more rare, as he knows the situation he's in won't end well - and this time it's not just him it'll go badly for. But if he can help people in the process, it's a necessary sacrifice, is it not?

The cause has now turned into a Cause as well, and Anders talks about nothing else most of the time. He's even writing a manifesto, leaving copies upon copies of it around, which is impressive for a world where the printer most likely hasn't been invented yet. And while he'll stubbornly insist that being possessed by a spirit of Justice is not the same as being possessed by a demon, when he opens up to the people he trusts, he tends to warn them away from him. He's willing to go far for what he believes in, but he's not willing to drag down the people he cares about as well.

Anders is someone who believes in helping, not just when it comes to mages. He opens up a clinic in Dark Town - the slums in the city - helping refugees and the poor there. And he'll fight to protect his clinic, even knowing he'd risk his own life doing so. His own life means less now that he has Justice with him.

Meeting and travelling with Hawke has necessarily affected him as well, though. Hawke never had much time for Anders' beliefs, and told him off when he went too far. When Anders gets too angry, Justice takes over, and at one point this resulted in him nearly killing an innocent mage. He would have, if Hawke hadn't been there to help him. And being constantly told off by someone he respects makes him hesitate - though not enough to back down entirely. It confuses him, how much he respects someone who is everything that he hates, but he is inexplicably drawn to him regardless.

To summarise: Anders is sarcastic, but far less so than he used to be. He doubts himself, which only makes him more determined to aid his Cause. And he is possessed by a spirit which is strongly affecting his mind and making it hard, in some cases, to think clearly. In particularly emotional situations, the spirit takes over entirely.

Anders is used to being on his own in any situation. He says that in the circle, love could only ever be a game, as honestly caring about someone to that extent only gave the templars more power. He has a hard time letting anyone in due to this. Even so, he's grown attached to Hawke, someone who he should hate more than anything, and tends to listen to his opinions at the very least. He's also forgetting more and more how to relax and have fun, thanks to Justice's influence.

Abilities/Powers: Anders is a very talented healer. He can restore health, and even revive fallen allies in battle; and he even has abilities that cause those around him to regenerate faster. This is a temporary effect that also stops him from using any offensive spells while it is active. He can also produce a barrier to increase damage resistance.

His offensive spells focus on fire and ice. The latter can slow enemies down, and even freeze them. Similar to his healing skills, he also has skills that boosts the attack of those fighting alongside him. Other abilities include using telekinetic force to knock enemies over or keep them from moving forward; or to crush them beneath a "prison" of the same. He is also capable of temporarily paralyzing enemies.

Since being made Grey Warden he also has the ability to sense Dark Spawn - the mindless monsters of the Dragon Age world - and will know when an Arch-Demon is gathering power. He also gets the bonus of nightmares.

He is only capable of using so many abilities in a row before needing to rest or consume a lyrium potion. A mage draws their power from the Fade, which is where human and mages go where they sleep. It is also where spirits and demons live. If a mage uses too much magic it'll sap their own life force, and might kill them. The lyrium helps them connect to the Fade for extra power. Even when his mana is depleted, though, Anders does have a basic attack he can use at any time, which is also ranged. He essentially shoots out a burst of magic from his staff, but it has no other effect than dealing damage, and isn't particularly powerful. He also has a fairly weak constitution.

Sample Entry: voice testing at dear_mun
Sample Entry Two: Anders held the strange device - the phone up to his mouth, only to find that he didn't know what to say. He had so much of his manifesto written back in Kirkwall, so many arguments perfectly lined up, and yet here he found it impossible to come up with a single one. It was the lack of writing implements, he was sure; it was different to speak into the air. Or into the phone, in this case, which he was still sure was in some way magic; he'd never seen anything similar without a demon being involved.

Still, he felt it necessary to continue: "Many liken mages to a rabid animal, but this would only be correct for mages currently possessed by a demon. Locking up mages for potentially falling to temptetion is like locking up all dogs because one of them might catch a disease. And you would be heartless not to consider it worse to do so to a human being."

He turned off the phone again, giving himself a moment to gather his thoughts. He knew, of course, that his manifesto technically wasn't needed in this world. There were no templars, and no mages being persecuted. Instead there were others who needed his help, and his efforts were better spent towards freeing them from this city. But no matter what, he felt that it was important not to forget his work from home; he was determined to get back there some day, and he wouldn't forgive himself if he forgot any arguments because he neglected to note them down somehow. And more important than that, it let him forget for a moment that they'd all been kidnapped. It was almost meditative.

And of course, Hawke might eventually show up, if both Merrill and the Hero of Ferelden were here. And speaking of Merrill--

Anders switched the phone back on, broadcasting to everyone: "Mages who resort to blood magic are a danger to themselves and to others, and need to be locked up. However, the majority of mages do not display this weakness, and are of no threat at all. Anger and distrust should be directed where it is deserved, and not indiscriminately broadcast."

Other Characters Played:Nil!
Preferred Apartment: None.

Character Name: Uni
Canon: Katekyou Hitman Reborn!
Canon Point: Around Chapter 254 I believe, just after she's woken up, but before she goes to seek the help of the Vongola family!
Background/History: here!
Personality: Uni, at first glance, seems all puff and fairy floss. She's a tiny little girl with a gentle smile and not much substance to her, after all; it's easy to underestimate those sorts.

However, her lack of physical strength is more than made up in mental and emotional mettle. Her entire life has been centred around the personal ideology of self-sacrifice for others' happiness, and she will do everything in her power to make things right, and to help those she cares about. The idea of hurting others horrifies her, but will be taken as an absolute last resort (and even then, it's indirect sacrifice for the greater good).

Given that her age and build are huge hindrances to being a successful mafioso, Uni relies heavily on people's better natures, as well as her charm. Her smile has been noted to be her greatest feature, winning over allies and ensuring that she's never really alone. Her kindness cannot be discounted, however; when given the chance to save herself from a fatal curse (later in canon), she readily concedes the chance for the sake of her allies. It's this that keeps people on her side and draws them in, disarming most (but certainly not all) enough with relative ease.
Her love and care for others comes from her mother Aria, certainly; the woman led a double life in raising her daughter, but they definitely had an affectionate relationship and are even said to have the same sort of presence.

For all of her charms and innocence, Uni is certainly not above making enemies. Her powers alone make her an easy target for less honorable elements, and her lifestyle as a mafia boss ensures that there are no small number of people willing to throw her down from her throne. Although she might be considered to have a cheat in her interactions with people, that doesn't ensure that everything will go to plan, naturally.
Her age plays a part in this too; she's innately curious, trying her best to see the best in and get to know people who might not always appreciate being read like a picture book. This, combined with her desire to keep her loved ones out of danger by keeping her finger on the pulse can lead to awkward situations and even a little prying, if she's sure that there's not too much danger involved.

The worst part about her absolute desire to keep people happy is that she will often prioritise this over her own happiness most of the time. Her own life and famiglia have been used as bargaining chips, though with much difficulty on her part. In the case of her life, it's been sacrificed several times over to protect others in various alternate universes; due to her curse-shortened lifespan, it just isn't something that's worth as much as it should be.
This was accepted long ago, when she first found out about her powers and the curse they held. While the thought of dying still scares the daylights out of her and isn't something she'll do lightly, it's still something she'll grimly accept when necessary.

Despite her sugary sweet nature, Uni has some spice to her; she's given towards gentle teasing to those she cares about (and who don't put her on a pedestal and oblige her into polite words), and flat out disdain of those seemingly beyond her reach. This can be seen when she calls a boy 'more ordinary than I expected' upon their first meeting, despite being well aware that he'd later harm her and cause much agony in the future. It does take a while for her to get over this however, and to realise that hey, it's alright to actually be a kid and to joke around.

All in all, Uni’s basically a kind, sad little girl who would do anything to save the world and those she loves.
At any cost.

Part 2!

[personal profile] sky_princess 2012-10-09 08:22 am (UTC)(link)
Abilities/Powers: Uni's primary ability is to read hearts and minds of those around her; this has expanded into enabling her to see the future. It can be assumed (since we never explicitly see it in canon, just her after having had visions) that her foretelling the future is never consciously done, since they're certainly not things she wants to see. In fact, most of Uni's premonitions seem to be negative in some form. However, her reading hearts and minds is probably more of an ability that she can summon by will; in canon, it's mentioned that at least one person can sense her doing this, though that would probably count as a special case.

She also has the ability to share consciousness with alternate selves, almost enabling her to hop worlds through other Unis in existence (though many of them were wiped out, so this ability has been severely limited in that aspect), and to sense anyone wishing harm to her (only when very close, it seems) by feeling very ill at the time.

Not only that, but using any of her powers (bar sharing consciousness) saps at her lifespan. Visions are assumed to be the most taxing, with heart and mind reading seeming to have happened for long enough that its toll can be assumed to be only slight.

All of her powers can be attributed to both her heritage (a long line of shamanesses doomed to die early) and to the bauble around her neck, a glowing orange pacifier on a pink ribbon. Although her bloodline certainly helped the powers along, without the pacifier she'd certainly be helpless.
Sample Entry: hope this suffices!
Sample Entry Two:It's well into her first stretch that Uni realises she's not actually in the Millefiore base.

Not anywhere she recognises at all, actually. Her heart leaps into her chest as she looks about the room, hastily pulling her cloak tighter 'round her shoulders. Each little cast out into the aether comes back with no reply; there's no thought, no heartbeats, nothing that she can read.

Looks like she's back to basics, or at least until she can pick up on a heartbeat. There's always the slightest possibility that there's someone resistant to her powers, after all (the thought makes her stomach churn).

"Hello?"

Uni scrambles to her feet, shaking the dust from her pristine white and black clothing. "Is anyone out there? ...Gamma? Nosaru? Te--"

There's a clatter that sends her a few centimetres into the air with a muffled shriek. It's laughed off nervously, quietly as she inspects the room she's currently in. Fingers roaming over light switches (thankfully functional), pillows, the hinges of the doors; it all seems normal, but she's too wary and worn out now to not be at least a little suspicious.

"Well, if you won't come out, I'm just going to find someone. There has to be someone who knows where we are so I can get home," she mutters, rubbing one eye and adjusting to being awake, being alive again. "Too much to do."

Character Name: Malik Al'Sayf
Canon: Assassin's Creed
Canon Point: The Second time Altair visits Jerusalem
Background/History: WIKI LINK

Personality:
Having been born and raised an assassin, Malik is a man who has built his life around the assassin's order and its three tenants: To stay your blade form the flesh of the innocent, to hide in plain sight, and to never compromise the brotherhood. These three rules are a constant in his beliefs and actions, and a core part of who he is. They are also a point of honor, so when Altair blatantly disregards these rules at the beginning of the game, it gets him worked up, because it was as if Altair had slapped his beliefs, and one of the things he saw as most important to being an assassin, in the face. (And then Altair went and made everything a million times worse, so Malik's anger became justified.)

Malik is a man who lost a lot all at one time, and yet despite that, he continues on. This shows a lot about who he is. First and foremost, it shows his strength. Not just his physical prowess, but it shows his emotional strength as well. He is a person that will not simply give up because of a loss, he will continue on, and continue doing what he has to. This trait is one that is necessary, especially given his occupation—he is an assassin. He can’t let the losses get the better of him, not when he’s working towards a greater whole.

The second thing is, it shows just how human he is. He’s not just some side-character, always there to aid the protagonist. No, he is very much three dimensional, and is someone capable of becoming angry and holding a grudge. However, he does not let his grudge cloud his judgment, and he is able to see past it. He could have remained spiteful toward Altair for the rest of his life, ignoring the other assassin's personal growth just to dwell on how he'd wronged him in the past. Instead, he sees Altair's growth for what it is, and forgives him for the death of Kadar and the loss of his arm. It takes a while, and it’s not something that is simply swept under the rug or dealt with easily, but by Altair’s third visit to Jerusalem, Malik forgives him.

I mentioned anger up there, but there needs to be some clarification. He does get angry, but he doesn’t lash out like many others would. He’s almost passive aggressive about it, in a way—speaking to those he’s displeased with with harsh words and a scolding tongue. He will pick them apart and tell them exactly where they need improvement—regardless of whether they asked his opinion or not. He’s harsh, and cold, and he doesn’t take attitude from those he doesn’t respect.

Speaking of respect! He’s not the kind of person to respect someone right off the bat. Oh, no, respect has to be earned, even if they’re a higher rank than him. Altair is a prime example of this, as at the start of the game he outranks Malik—and yet despite that, Malik berates and insults him. Going hand in hand with this is his views of people. Once he has an idea as to who they are, it takes a lot to change his perception of them. If he doesn’t like them because they’re arrogant, attention-seeking fools, then not only will it take a lot to get his respect, but it will take time for him to not see them in that light, no matter how quickly or how much they change.

Malik is very intelligent and wise. He’s able to look and see things as a whole instead of many smaller parts, and Altair compliments him on this perceptiveness. He gives good advice, and while he won’t lend aid where it hasn’t been earned or isn’t needed, he’s not someone who would send a person—no matter how much he dislikes them—out on a mission completely blind. He’s serious, cold, and his words are often harsh, but his advice and the things he says are genuine. He’s not someone who would lie just to get even.

Ironically enough, cruelty is not in his nature. He’s an assassin, yes, but he knows that his actions—and the actions of the order on a whole—are done for the good. They go after the wicked, those who wish to rid the world of free will, and that’s it. He would not attack someone for no reason, and he would not kill someone to exact revenge, at least not by his own hand. He did tell Al Mualim that Altair deserved to die, his death in exchange for his brothers. Yet when his elder spared Altair’s life, he didn’t act on his own and try to kill him. He could have! But he didn’t, because he’s not that kind of man.

Lastly, Malik is cautious, careful, and he plans before he acts. He’s not one to be brash, or to rush into things without some plan of attack. He’s very flexible, and can adapt to any unexpected changes or flaws in a plan—after all, one doesn’t know, they can only suspect, and he has to suspect to be wrong every time. He’s confident in what he does, though he is far from being arrogant, and is capable of seeing the flaws in his own actions. He can also be the jealous sort, when it comes to people who have much higher skills than him, and it’s a trait that has caused him grief.

Abilities/Powers:
Malik is human, and has nothing magical or superhuman about him. However! He was raised an assassin, and as such, can be very stealthy. He knows how to blend into crowds, and go about unnoticed, without drawing attention to himself. On top of that, he can climb, jump, and run around on the roofs of buildings like no other. You know, assassin-ing it up and the like.

Sample Entry: Link to a musebox thread
Sample Entry Two:
This city was unfamiliar to him in many, many ways. It was a place teeming with technology, most of it he couldn't even fathom the use for--and most of it broken or unusable anyway, so learning about it all was hardly worth the effort. Yet despite the unfamiliarity of the city, technology, and culture that now surrounded him (both from the setting itself and the people that also found themselves trapped), he adapted to it all surprisingly well.

He was an assassin, after all, adapting was in his nature.

He didn't like being blind to his surroundings, however. Unlike the cities of his home world, he didn't know this city's roads or rooftops, and if he were to ever come under attack, his chance to escape would be greatly diminished by this fact--which didn't sit right with him. He wasn't about to let himself sit around, blind to not only the workings of this place but to the many ways of navigating the city, as well.

And so, he climbs. He's surprisingly quick despite his missing arm, and pulls himself to the roof with relative ease.

There was a great determination, burning inside, for he wanted know this city like the back of his hand, just as he did Masayf and Jerusalem. And if he had any say in the matter, he would.

Character Name: Ada Wong
Canon: Resident Evil
Canon Point: End of RE4, after delivering Wesker the fake Master Plagas sample.
Background/History: Wiki
Personality:

Leon Kennedy: Maybe it's about time to tell me the reason why you’re here?
Ada Wong: Maybe some other time.

The Femme Fatale, Ada is a professional in every aspect.

On the surface Ada is coy, manipulative, detached, and very hard to trust. A perfectionist in both appearance and in her work, Ada knows herself to be high maintenance and indeed she is. Each of her outfits is paired with matching accessories and nothing is ever out of place. And she will wear these outfits of hers even when on assignment, even if the social settings don’t call for it. See: wearing a long dress and heels for a mission in a remote Spanish village. Ada holds both decor and people to her high standards and if they do not meet them, she has a little less respect for them. In her mind, those who strive for quality are worthy of admiration. Not surprisingly, she has a slight aversion to filth, though she’s willing to turn a blind eye if it’s necessary.

When sent in on an assignment, Ada always has a pretty clear idea of the situation. That's because she studies every angle of her mission extensively. From fighting styles to backgrounds, Ada makes sure she knows all she can about each player involved in her missions. And throughout each mission, she picks up on the little details. She mainly sticks to the shadows, choosing when and where to make herself known. When she does, it’s always for a reason as well as always cryptic in her own little fashion.

However, Ada can and will follow her emotions when she's on an assignment, mostly brought out by her bond with Leon S. Kennedy. Though her true allegiance is unknown, she has been known to play on both sides to further her own agenda. When on a mission, Ada will reach her goal no matter what, but she has integrity and some measure of mercy and kindness which can be brought out. She’ll blatantly ignore an order that she feels compromised for following, such as her refusal to kill Leon despite being told numerous times to take care of him. For a spy, these kind of mercies and emotions can and will lead to their downfall.

But one who’s human can only do so much. Ada is a reflective person; she spends a lot of time thinking about events and people in her life. After certain conversations, Ada will slightly turn her head to the side and sigh, signifying that she knows more about something that she can say. Every secret has its time and its place to be revealed, despite what her own feelings may be.

Abilities/Powers:
For the lack in any superhuman abilities, Ada makes up for in natural talent and intelligence.

Ada is a trained assassin: she knows how to infiltrate, she knows how to get her mark, and she knows how to get out of there all without being seen. Unless she actually wants to be seen. Proficient in both firearms and hand to hand, though given the choice she’ll go sniping from a high place before putting herself in the line of fire. When fighting, Ada is very agile, making up a lack of sheer power and a vulnerability to attack with good speed and a complete use of her surroundings. Also professional gymnast, Ada is incredibly talented at performing some very impressive stunts.

Sample Entry:
[The audio clicks on, but no video feed. Those who know her will immediately recognize the face that goes with the voice. Those who don’t? Well, they’ll just have to wait in suspense just a little longer.]

[Of course, normally she wouldn’t bother with any sort of recording. A short message was all she needed. The lack of a text function ruins that little plan almost immediately. Without impersonal means of communicating, she’ll have to play a part to learn what she needs to.]

You’ve got to be joking. And here I thought I was done with these backwoods environments. [Mainly referring to the phone, since hers was suspiciously missing.] Though, I have to say the ambiance is a little more than unsettling.

So, does anyone mind to explain what exactly is going on? It’s not every day a girl gets kidnapped then left alone.

Sample Entry Two:
The city of lights and the first snow of winter. What a sight. A robe clung to Ada’s skin, still wet from the hot perfumed bath, her eyes trained outside, watching the view from the veranda.

“Figures. Not even a hot bath with a view isn’t as relaxing as it sounds.” Musing to herself, Ada took half a minute more before closing the doors to shut out the cold. ”I guess after you’ve seen a light snow in Paris at night once already, it loses its spark the second time.”

Still, didn’t matter if a blizzard blanket all of Paris; she was going to have to leave all the same tomorrow. The cellphone was casually thrown on the counter, still well within reach of the woman’s grasp. The screen was a bit fogged from the steam and the cold night air, but the opened text message was still legible in white font against a black background: the newest orders from her employers. The paper trail leads to Brussel next.

“Black market dealers give one hell of a chase. Easy enough to track, but disappear before you even arrive in the same city.”

A different city every day. The dealers sure knew how to get their way around Europe in little to no time at all. Normally there would be no reason to bother; roaches like these popped up every day. What made this target so interesting was his recently acquired stock of biological weapons. All the more, the most recent customer and his purchase.

“Just what are you up to?”

Name: Emma
Contact Info: I'd prefer you to contact me by pm'ing this account! But besides that, you can both e-mail and AIM me at tyto@rogers.com.
Other Characters Played: None!
Preferred Apartment: Put her anywhere! (though the way I wrote my first sample put her on one of the upper floors, but I can edit that if necessary)

Character Name: Holly Summers
Canon: No More Heroes
Canon Point: After her death
Background/History:Still just a bud.

Personality:
On her list of priorities, subtlety is definitely not high on Holly's. Her boss level is located on a local beach which she has not-so-sneakily made an obstacle course out of, complete with barbed wire, landmines, and lots and lots of her men. Then you reach her, and she's a lady in a camo two-piece with a chrome prosthetic for a left leg that can shoot missiles. Nope, Holly Summers doesn't do subtle well.

This comes across in the way she speaks. She wants to know how Travis, our wonderful protagonist, really feels about his non stop murder spree he's embarked on for no good reason, and she doesn't beat around the bush about it. The first words out of her mouth are a series of sharp questions: "Do you like fighting? ...Do you accept death?" When Travis responds in such a way that lets her know that, yes, indeed, this guy is a huge douchebag, she doesn't hold back on letting him know her opinion. She calls him a disappointment and later, stupid and pathetic. What's important to her is that she's telling the truth and trying to get Travis to realize it, even if it means she has to be very, very blunt about it.

Presumably, she does this with most people, getting them to take off the masks they carry and to stop hiding behind their egos. She claims to have a thing for "stupid, pathetic men" and while she could definitely mean this romantically, it could also mean that she likes getting stupid pathetic men to realize what they are, and to help them change, though it isn't confirmed or denied anywhere in canon.

Holly seems to be bothered in particular by Travis's complete dismissal of death. She evidently respects it a great deal, saying "Death is the only truth", but unlike her opponent, it isn't about a love for bloodshed. For Holly, being an assassin is about honour. When she loses to Travis, she would much rather be killed by him than try to get out of it. To her, it just seems simple: she's fully aware that she had entered into a duel to the death, one of them has to die, and it has to be the loser. She lost, so she has to die, whether Travis kills her or not.

Without hesitation or fear, she proceeds to stick a grenade in her mouth. She respects death, but not in such a way that she is afraid of it.

Abilities/Powers:
Weaponized Left Leg: Yes, you read that correctly.
♣ Replaces her left leg, allows her to walk, run, and generally get around.
♣ Judging by its shiny metallic colour, apparently chrome plated, making it easy-to-clean, corrosion resistant, and quite painful to be on the receiving end of.
♣ Capable of shooting heat-seeking missiles. In Haven, the missiles inside will be taken away along with the rest of her weapons, but she'll need to keep her leg to get around.

Knife Skills
Knowledge of Explosives: specifically landmines and grenades
Shovel Fu: skill in using a shovel as a close range weapon. The one she used was apparently made of Super Duper Wood because it was able to meet Travis's light-saber esque weapons without being sliced in half.
Adaptability/Strategy: She knows how to use her surroundings to her advantage. Seen in how she takes full advantage of her location on the beach, digging holes in the sand for traps. When Travis inevitably falls into them, she has the opportunity to throw grenades in there with him until he climbs out.
Academic Knowledge: She refers to herself as an academic, and her above strategy shows she's smart, but what exactly she's an academic of is never said. Headcanon states that it is psychology and botany.
Bi/Multilingual: This is mostly headcanon, but Holly comes from Sweden, so it only makes sense that she's fluent in Swedish as well as English.
♣(According to headcanon, she knows simple Vietnamese, due to her mother's side of the family being from there.)

♧ And finally SUPERMODEL POWERS: one of the few things we know for sure about Holly is that she used to be a model, and I don't know about you, but I consider the ability to run/stand up for long amounts of time in high heels to be one admirable talent.

Sample Entry:
[The feed opens to a rhythmic pattern of sounds. First a soft clunk, then a slight clicking. A clunk, then a click, clunk, click. At random intervals the rhythm stops, only to be filled with the sound of a hinge squeaking and someone knocking on something hollow and metal.]

I'm currently asking myself many questions, but I'll shorten them to a key two. I'll be sure to ask the others later. [The voice is soft, female, with a hint of a European accent.]

First: where might I find a bottle of baby powder? [There's a brief rattling, and then the video clicks on. There's a young woman with grey eyes and a very tousled head of short black hair, as though she's just woken up from a particularly bad nightmare. She's smiling softly at the camera as she lurches unevenly down the dimly lit stairwell.] You see, I'm absolutely covered in sand. [To prove her point, she pauses and angles the camera down towards her torso. Not only is she covered in sand, but she's wearing a camouflage two-piece swimsuit, as well as some sort of complicated artillery vest. But that's enough of her hot bod; she focuses it on her face again.]

Second: what kind of dumbom builds an apartment building without an elevator? [She gives a brief snort of laughter.] The kind completely insensitive to those who are missing certain crucial limbs. [She sighs as she approaches the next set of stairs, having made a quick turn on the landing. The limping descent begins again. She shrugs, smiling pleasantly.] Well, I certainly have been in worse situations.

Sample Entry Two:
She's alive again.

Sand flakes away under her thumb as she brushes it against her neck. She can't stop touching her hair, her scalp. To suddenly regain a head after one had stuck a grenade in one's mouth was simply impossible.

Then again, there had been a time when she believed missiles couldn't be fired from a metal leg, and look how that had ended. She chuckles to herself, and closes her eyes to think.

She cannot linger in this room forever. There's a fridge with no food and appliances that need fixing, not to mention that battered old cellphone that had been waiting on the bedside drawers when she woke. What's the point of giving her a phone if there aren't other people to communicate with? Unless whoever had chosen to give it to her had a particularly cruel sense of humour, and this was all a grand, heartless, dangerous joke.

To take away one of Death's prizes is to play with something much worse than fire, after all.

But that can be ruminated upon in bed, after a hard day's work.

Holly rolls her shoulders, tilts her head one way and then the other, hearing her neck crack. Leaning upon her sturdy metal pillar of a left leg, she stretches out her right, rolling her ankle to loosen it up.

Time to conquer her first goal: getting downstairs.

Character Name: Masaomi Kida (eventually Bakyura in the chatroom shared by several characters in the series)
Canon: Durarara!!
Canon Point: After he lands himself in the hospital but before he regains consciousness for his heart-to-heart with Saki. Last episode of the anime and thus near the end of the third novel.
Background/History: "Now it’s my turn to chase the past."

Personality: Masaomi Kida is quite the catch, if you can get past all the reasons he isn't. Spoiler alert, there are a lot of reasons.

This particular high school drop out happens to be a notorious(ly bad) flirt, a bit on the obnoxious side, and convinced that his jokes are actually funny. They're not. He's playful to a fault and over-animated, almost too passionate about what he enjoys. A true-blue extrovert who is always the most energized when surrounding himself with friends. His favorite pastime is to go out on the town and pick up girls, dragging his poor friend Mikado along with him when he can, but despite his big talk, he fails spectacularly. Of course, it's hard to get a girl to laugh with you rather than at you when you're flapping your elbows like a chicken.

Somehow though, when it matters most, even these outlandish traits can work in his favor. He's sensitive to others' feelings so long as they don't directly concern him and tries hard to make people feel better about themselves. The effort he puts into it is more than a little noticeable despite that it's often disguised as Masaomi's usual antics. In a way, that's all Masaomi's usual antics are: an attempt to raise everyone around him to his own excitement level. He wants a chance to be the hero, the good guy, a knight for all the princesses of the world. He has a certain charisma, an energy about him that can liven up any party and make anything his own. He can take charge or fool around; he scares away awkward silences and brings people together. All through joking around like a carefree dumbass. One of those people at whom someone can only shake their head and smile fondly while saying, "That's Masaomi for you."

Unfortunately, this too-happy-for-his-own-good image is little more than brightly colored wrapping paper meant to distract from the disappointing contents within. Masaomi doesn't act like a different person than he actually is or hide his true self behind a mask. What he does is willfully deny parts of himself because he doesn't want to or can't deal with them as he is. Chilling beneath the surface and shaping his otherwise sincere motives is a swirling miasma of guilt, depression, doubt, and self-loathing. It's partly for the benefit of others that he puts up the facade whenever he's with them, and it's partly for himself. He doesn't want anyone to know he's unhappy, especially why he's unhappy.

First and foremost, Masaomi is lonely. He has always been lonely. He has felt as if he has no place in the world, something that probably originated because his parents don't give a rat's ass about him or anything he does. He seeks out others in order to create that elusive place where he can belong, a place he lost when he moved to Ikebukuro, leaving his friend Mikado behind. In true Masaomi fashion, however, he has a tendency to search in all the wrong places. Faced with the transition from small town to big city, he dives head first into the thick of things and comes out the other end as the accidental but effective leader of a delinquent gang. After all, why settle for something small? If nobody cares, then he'll make them care. Masaomi isn't a flame, he's a firework! By forming his color gang the Yellow Scarves, the young rebel without a cause creates the place for himself that he’s wanted and thanks to Izaya is even able to find a girl with whom he can share it, Saki Mikajima.

Of course, the moment one utters the phrase “thanks to Izaya” is the moment shit hits the fan.

Guilt is one of the ultimate motivators. It is certainly one of Masaomi's. Though Izaya is the one who doesn’t answer his call for help, though the Yellow Scarves’ rival gang members are the ones who torture Saki, Masaomi Kida is the one who couldn’t save her. No actions anyone else may have taken against him shift an ounce of blame away from himself. He should never have allowed himself to become so dependent on Izaya’s help, he should never have allowed himself to become drunk with his victories, and he most definitely should never have allowed himself to freeze from fear. With the nurturing power of his anxiety and doubt, overwhelming guilt quickly spirals into depression and self-loathing.

Even as he slowly resolves his worst issues, he never forgets them. They remind him regularly of the consequences of his actions and of the people he has put in harm's way, giving him a foundation on which to base his pride. (If he doesn't help this person, he’ll never be able to look Mikado in the eye again, etc.) But these reminders at times also wreak havoc on his decision making skills which are already subpar at best, flushing the boy down more than one angsty teenage emotional spiral of misery.

Having experienced what he has, he has an almost inhuman determination, perhaps desperation, not to allow his friends to fall into "the dark side" of Tokyo the way he did. He will evade, lie, act, cheat, betray, kill, and die to make sure it doesn't happen. Nothing makes him angrier, nothing makes him more frightened, than losing it all again. Every transgression made toward them, every subtle sign of discomfort, he wants to change it. He didn't have anyone to hold him back before, so now he wants to be that person for others who need him.

What's grown out of this combination of motives is a fierce but faulty protectiveness. Not a possessiveness, but a misguided loyalty and will to preserve the peace he so enjoys, even if his methods mean he may never again be able to experience that peace himself. He’d rather give it all up then let it be taken from him again. Whether a person be a friend, an acquaintance, or a member of his gang, he places their safety into his own hands with a firm and steady belief that what they don't know won't hurt them.

This ties into one of Masaomi's coping mechanisms: a type of escapism made possible through intense compartmentalization. He has trouble seeing himself as one all-around person. Often he sees himself in parts and worries about what others will think when they see a side of him they don’t usually see. At times this fear is founded, which only fuels his concern even in situations where it’s not. When Mikado arrives in Ikebukuro, Masaomi splits his life into two realities, temporarily disregarding the reality of his life with his gang in order to start with a clean slate in the reality of his life at Raira Academy. In one reality, he is the amazing best friend of Mikado and Anri and failure flirt extraordinaire; in the other, he will punch an overzealous gang member across the room for not following orders. He keeps each reality as separate from the other as possible, so when the two worlds start to mix, he does all he can to stop it. His advice to both sides usually consists of "stay away from X," and any further questions will be answered with vague ambiguity or silence before the conversation is steered back to its correct reality. He takes it upon himself to watch out for problems on all sides and react accordingly, without informing those he's trying to protect of his other reality.

How can he tell them, when he's managed to convince himself his friends would hate him for it? He hates himself for it, after all. He hates himself for hiding it, for feeling like he has to hide it, for how he's handled past situations, for repeating the same mistakes. If he can hate himself so thoroughly, how can they not?

If it isn't noticeable enough already, Masaomi has some glaring trust issues. This isn't surprising when even his girlfriend spent a year in the hospital supposedly unable to walk, when in reality she had recovered some time before. He will avoid entrusting his fate to adults in particular so long as he has the choice. They're great for occasional advice, but if he sticks around too long, they'll betray him eventually. A history of parental negligence heaped on top of Izaya's cruel manipulation leaves him unable to count on the older generation to the extent that he doesn't even consider it an option. When faced with dire, suicidal circumstances, he has a ridiculously powerful but kind man towering above him telling him he shouldn't have to kill or die in a place like Tokyo, and instead of ask for help, he smiles and laughs and plays pretend like nothing is wrong until he can get moving again. His problems are his own.

It is, however, possible for Masaomi to enjoy someone's company, love them wholeheartedly, while knowing they are lying to him. Trust isn’t necessarily required for him to like someone because if it was, he would have no one to like. Rather, he ends up allowing others excuses for their lies while giving himself no quarter. Anri and Mikado both hide things from him, just as he hides things from them, but he is the one who doubted them not the other way around, so he’s the worst.

It's this sort of thinking that brings about moments when he allows himself to brood or be serious.

Alone, he has little to distract himself from his thoughts and the claustrophobic atmosphere of the gang-infested city streets. The change in not only expression but body language the moment he finds himself without an audience is readily apparent, as if a string that holds his head high and shoulders up is suddenly cut. Usually the only person who gets to see this kind of helpless brooding is Saki, though Izaya has a knack for bringing it out of him when he tries.

When Masaomi Kida gets serious, it's another story. When Masaomi Kida gets serious, he gets serious. And everyone is going to know about it. He is well aware of the horrors of which people are capable, that life is never fair, but he can only face his obstacles head on with a deadly glare and a nail puller to the ribs. He didn't gain the respect necessary to lead a gang through pretty words. Despite the silly jokes, the flirting, the insecurity, the guilt - Masaomi is a fighter at the core. He lives to survive, and to give others the same chance. If someone gets in the way of that, he will mess them up. When something is truly important to him, he won't let go of it so easily, even when it does nothing but hurt.

It's a little selfless, a little selfish, a little sacrificial, and a little self-sabotaging, but in the end, it's just a lot of Masaomi Kida.

Abilities/Powers: Masaomi has the remarkable ability to recite the most embarrassing lines you’ve ever heard with a straight face. Other than that, he’s your average human teenager who occasionally gets angry enough to beat down assholes twice his size.

Sample Entry: "Those who laugh at sexuality cry at the lack of it."

Sample Entry Two: From [community profile] adstringendum.

Masaomi had thought he'd had nightmares before. He'd laughed about them with Mikado and made fun of Fai's. But he'd never really had them. He'd never seen horrors like that so vividly before last week. It had taken him a while to remember the event. If one could call it that. What it had really been was seven days of testing his mental endurance. The overwhelming need to think about anything, anything other than the stench of death, the sight of blood, the feeling that the entire city was warping around him, taunting him, laughing at what an idiot he was. He didn’t have that kind of endurance.

He deserved what he'd gotten, but somehow he couldn't bring himself to say those words out loud. That would mean acknowledging what he'd done, and he didn't quite feel ready for that. He didn't feel ready for anything. What the hell had that been? A nightmare within a nightmare, a screw up within a screw up. He barely remembered anything, and yet he knew it had happened. He’d pissed off the wrong person. He’d done it on purpose. He’d damned the consequences, and they’d damned him. How was he supposed to feel about something like that? What was wrong with him?

The thought of seeing another person right then, any person, made him sick to his stomach. How pathetic could he get? And yet instead of rise above that nausea, he locked himself in his room for over an hour, trying to sort things out in his head while staring blankly at his splintering ceiling. How everything had happened, the order in which it had happened, the reasons he’d been forced to see those grotesque, gory recreations around every corner. Only when his throat ran dry was he willing to risk even running into a housemate, slipping out of his room and into the kitchen.

It wasn't a housemate he ran into.

When he returned to his room - glass of water in hand, hair sopping wet from a dunking - to see Jinx of all people panicking there, he didn't know what to do. And with the brazen courage of a lion, he froze up in the doorway.

Character Name: Mavis Dracula
Canon: Hotel Transylvania
Canon Point: After her scare at the “human” village, before meeting Johnnystein
Background/History: Hi wiki
Previous Game History: N/A
Personality:
Mavis has the Disney princess “I want more” thing down to a T.

She’s also has “Daddy’s little ghoul” down to a T.

The daughter of Dracula, Mavis is (ironically) a ray of sunshine. Friendly, smart, and eager to learn new things, her pampered and sheltered life hasn’t had much of a negative effect on her ability to get along with people. Likely due to her father being the owner of the Hotel Transylvania. She wants to get out and see new places, being very naïve about the world due to most of what she knows of it is very out of date.

Mavis is a teenage girl who has never really had friends her own age. The friends she does have are friends of her father, and she only gets to see them a few times a year. She doesn’t begrudge this or even dislikes them at all. In fact she gets along great with all the visitors to the hotel. But doing the same thing year after year with no real changes has made her a little bored with her life. She envies the other monsters because while they see the hotel as a place to get away and be themselves, they at least get to see what’s outside the walls. At the same time, while she wants to get out, she’s afraid of disappointing her father. Mavis loves him dearly and knows that he keeps her close because he’s afraid to lose her. So instead of just turning into a bat and making a break for it, she’s very cooperative in reasoning and bargaining with him.

Because of what happened to her mother, Mavis grew up with her dad feeding her the fear of humans. Without knowing any herself, humans seemed like some horror movie monster that just stopped being scary after awhile. She’s curious about what they’re really like, thinking her dad’s scare tactics are way out of date. That was before her trek out to her first “human” village, which was actually a ploy by her father to hammer in his scare tactics. At the point in canon, she’s really spooked by what happened. She still wants to see the world, but the thought of running into another human terrifies her.

Abilities/Powers:
Mavis is the daughter of Dracula. So all those vampire things from the old movies? Totally applies here.

In the movie she can:
-transform into a bat
-walk on walls
-run at super speed
-fly
-heal at an accelerated rate

Her dad is shown to do a lot more like telekinesis and mind control, but she’s not old enough to do these things yet.

Of course a lot of these powers depends on if she’s fed. Again, she has the whole vampire thing, so yeah she needs to feed on blood. Any blood works, so she’s fine attacking small animals and such. In fact she’s never had human blood before. She also does have the classic vampire weaknesses: i.e. she burns in sunlight, allergic to garlic, and she can be killed by fire or a stake in the heart.

Sample Entry:
[Video clicks on oh okay she gets it. Yeah this is one of those portable phone things she's heard Uncle Griffin talk about right?]

Hello?

[Nothing? Huh, usually when you're on the phone someone answers.]

Helloooo?

[Her lips purse into a pout. Where is everyone anyway?]

Spooky. Actually looks like a real city. Though isn’t there supposed to be a bunch of lights and not so...deserted? [Maybe cities are like this? She really didn't sound to sure of herself.] Okay Dad you can come out now. I get it, I’m not going to leave the hotel, okay? You don’t need to convince me even more. Dad! Uncle Frank? Come on you guys have to be in on this. Uncle Wayne? Uncle Murray? Uncle Griffin?

[Trying to put on a brave face, but it's pretty obvious she's freaking out a little.]

Yeah, yeah, I know this one. The scary humans are going to jump out and get me. Dad I’m not a little ghoul anymore. And you’re terrible at this game.

[The scenery wasn't the part that was freaking her out before, heck it's pretty normal for her. But all this quiet? Slightly hugging her arms, Mavis slowly backs herself into a corner.]

This…this is just a game, right? Dad?

Sample Entry Two:
Flying outside the castle at night was always her favorite thing to do. How much freedom the sky and the night air gave her. The only thing holding her back was her instinct to stay close to the Hotel. Venturing too far out would set off the warning alarm every single time.

So how weird was it for her to feel the same restriction here?

Transformed into the small black bat, Mavis soared through the city, darting back and forth between broken windows and debris. It was fantastic to see something new like this after over a century. But at the same time, her dad was probably worried sick about her right now. t would be so easy to take her time and really explore this place, but that knowledge nagged at the back of her head. It should be hard. Go to the hotel, let dad know she was completely fine, then come back and sight see-

BONK

Rubbing at her head, Mavis noticed there wasn't anything here. What did she run into then? Backing up slightly, the bat flew at ramming speed...into whatever stopped her the first time.

"A wall?" Darting around, come on there had to be a way out. No. No. No. No way she was completely trapped.
