We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every two weeks, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. If you wish to request a specific apartment, please do so in the relevant part of the application. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Every attempt will be made to place a character in their chosen apartments, though this may not always be possible depending on the slots available.

Applications are open constantly, but are only processed every other Friday at 7PM EST. The Saturday following acceptance, an IC mingle log will be posted for characters to be introduced to the game.

We now have a test drive community at haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old.

Abilities/Powers:

Fuyuhiko was admitted to Hope Peak Academy as a Super High School Level Gangster, meaning he does have some kind of potential to be one of the greatest gangsters in the world if his talent is cultivated correctly. However, what this actually means to him in specific is never quite laid out and his talent is likely derived less from his own abilities and more from his status. He's just an average human.

"Dammit...where the hell is it?"

It was already dark in Haven West as he walked through the deserted city, armed only with a flashlight. He was on his way to the apartment building when a gust of wind picked up and his hat flew off his head, flying a ways off from him. Normally a hat wouldn't mean a lot to him, but this hat was his favorite in particular. He certainly didn't want to lose it if he could get it back and there's no chance it could have taken off far. The risk didn't outweigh the benefit for him and so here he was, scanning the ground with the battery powered light to find his possession. But shit was it dark. He can barely see his feet walking one step at a time in front of him. A thought of maybe going back to ask for help crosses his mind, but it's quickly forgotten. No way he can ask for help from strangers he doesn't know and for a fucking hat of all things. He'll probably be laughed at for even caring about it.

"--What the fuck?!"

He stops in his tracks after letting out a quick whisper, frantically flashing the light toward the direction of the sound he swore he heard. There were stories about monsters living in Haven West that came out at night. He doesn't believe in monsters, but then again there are a lot of things he didn't believe in that he was blindsighted by. When he's sure nothing is there he moves the light back and picks up his pace, heart racing and head running a cold sweat. Shit, shit, shit, where in the hell was that fucking hat?! He swallowed dryly and felt ready to give up, just before his light hit the rim of the hat. A small sigh was let out, but hushed quickly out of fear, and he picked up the hat. Shaking off the pebbles on it he put it back on and turned around, the apartment building in sight. He quickly looks around in the dark to his sides, a small paranoia he can't admit creeping into him, and takes off for the building.

Personality:

At the outset, Taiga is your average tsundere character-type: violent with a helping of sweetness thrown in. As the series progresses, however, it becomes quite apparent that there is much more to her than that.

For one thing, her home life isn’t the greatest. She lives by herself in a huge, sparsely decorated apartment that her father pays for, though he neglects her otherwise, only dropping back into her life when it suits him. She doesn’t see her mother very often, either (though she does go to stay with her near the end of the series, withdrawing from her current school and enrolling at the school closer to her mom). She copes with it by spending a lot of her time at Ryuuji’s place, to the point where Ryuuji’s mother considers her the third member of the family. He cooks for her every day, cleans her apartment, supports her, pushes her…

And since we’re on the subject of Ryuuji- Taiga never intended to fall in love with him. She knew he liked her best friend, Minori, and she liked his best friend, Yuusaku. They teamed up initially to help each other win over their best friends. But over time, Taiga starts to realize she can be herself around Ryuuji (Yuusaku always made her tongue-tied and flustered), starts to realize Ryuuji has become a very big, integral part of her life that she doesn’t want to lose, even if she tries to step aside for his and Minori’s happiness. During a class ski trip, she admits she can’t help loving him while delirious after hitting her head, thinking that Yuusaku is the one who came to rescue her rather than Ryuuji himself. It takes her friends cornering her in a classroom to get her to acknowledge what she said, though she winds up running, and Ryuuji, accepting his own feelings for her, runs after. They planned to elope and marry once Ryuuji turned 18 in a couple months, but decided against it, choosing instead to face their problems. Taiga goes to stay with her mother so she can better herself, knowing that Ryuuji still loves her and will continue to love her (she comes back about a year later, during the graduation ceremony, and Ryuuji finally confesses properly, which he didn’t get a chance to before).

Back to personality quirks! Taiga is clumsy by nature, and she’s been known to do some pretty silly things (like writing a love letter to Yuusaku, putting it in the wrong bag, and icing on the cake- forgetting to include the actual letter). At the start of the series, she doesn’t know how to do household chores, and her cooking is…interesting. Because she’s cute, she’s been confessed to a lot, but she turned every single boy down (including Yuusaku, a decision she regrets later when she develops feelings for him and he’s already moved on). Her classmates gave her the nickname ‘Palmtop Tiger’ because of her explosive attitude.

And she does have an explosive attitude. But she’s also caring, and kind, and willing to survive on her own (while her heart is breaking). She hates when people assume they know everything about her when she doesn’t even know what she wants (aside from falling in love- a simple, ordinary love that is an impossible dream because she isn’t ordinary at all). At times she is brutally honest, and will usually say whatever is on her mind, and at times she’ll conceal the truth. She’s easy to fluster, and in some respects, easy to please (though she doesn’t always show it). When the student council president turns Yuusaku down, Taiga calls her out and beats the crap out of her in a classroom (Sumire does put up a pretty good fight herself, though), which results in a two-week suspension.

Even though her father has let her down in the past, she gives him another chance when Ryuuji gets on her case about it. He lets her down again, but she doesn’t blame Ryuuji even though Ryuuji knows he was in the wrong and feels terrible.

She’s self-conscious about her flat chest, so much so that Ryuuji sews special cups into her swimsuit to make it look like she’s got a bust. She keeps pictures of Yuusaku in her wallet- and later, Ryuuji. She likes to bestow nicknames. She will slap you if you deserve it (and insist there was a fly). She whips trash bags at stalkers. She doesn’t back down from challenges, even when she’d rather quit.

And she loves Christmas.

Abilities/Powers: Uh. She can use a wooden practice sword? She throws full garbage bags at stalkers? NORMAL STUFF.

[Hear that sound? It's the sound of a foot hitting a wall, repeatedly. A girl's gotta work her aggression out somehow, you know? Not like the wall's going to feel anything, anyhow. Er- even though it’s crumbling and stuff. Whatever. ENJOY THE SHOW HAVEN.

After a few mildly satisfying minutes, Taiga gives up, breathing heavily, face flushed, hair in disarray, hands clenched into fists at her sides.]

Do you expect me to take this? Do you expect me to just roll over and take this? I won’t do it. I won’t. I’m not here for some psycho’s entertainment- [her voice catches and her eyes water, but she presses on regardless] What a joke… These buildings can't even withstand a few tiny kicks. I'll bring the whole pathetic wasteland down around me!!!

[She turns, puts her back against the wall she just heaped all that abuse on, and slides down it. Her eyes burn, and her voice is just a whisper now.]

There is such a thing as happily ever after.

However, you have to be willing to work for it, rather than expecting it to come to you with minimal effort. You have to be willing to wear your heart on your sleeve, where it can easily be squeezed and battered and broken. You have to be willing to look at yourself in the mirror and see who you truly are, accept it and embrace it. You have to be willing to admit when you've made a mistake and be prepared to face whatever consequences that mistake will bring.

You have to be willing to fall and get back up again.

Because life is not a fairy tale. On the contrary, life is hard work, sacrifice, joy, pain, despair, love. Life is full of ups and downs, positives and negatives, small moments that can mean everything if you let them. Life is shaped by the people you surround yourself with (their impact on you, your impact on them in turn).

Looking back, Taiga would not change anything about the road that led her here, to this happily ever after (a happily ever after that would require maintenance from time to time, to patch cracks and potholes). The road is hers as much as the journey down it, and she has always been protective of what belongs to her. Every dip, every flaw, every bump...she wouldn't risk any of it.

She knows exactly who she is, who her family is (it grows bigger every day). She knows she can stand alone if she must, because she isn't truly alone, and never will be.

She knows someone will be there to offer her a hand up when she falls, regardless of how or why.

That's the best happily ever after of all.

While the application looks good overall, we would like to request a revision for the personality section. The reason to that is because we feel that while some of Will’s mannerisms and outward traits are described, little is given to explain underlying motivations and beliefs. The wiki mentions that he is genuinely kind and lenient in his investigations despite his cool and ruthless reputation. What prompts him to show leniency and patience in his work? He’s mentioned to resign willingly from SSVD despite the prestige and power that comes with the lofty position. What fed his disinterest and made him quit? Similarly, he’s said to choose his cases. What piques his interest and drives him to fervently pursuing some mysteries, while ignoring many others? We would appreciate more insight on that.
