Applications Two

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED!
The next application opening date is Friday 16th January, 7pm EST.
The next application processing date is Friday 23rd January, 7pm EST.

IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE

We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.

We now have a test drive community at [community profile] haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.

While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

To see what we are looking for:

Sample Entry: 1, 2.
Sample Entry Two:
Kiba doesn't mind the appearance of Haven West. He's visited and lived in poverty-stricken areas before and honestly, he's a wolf with no true opinion on architecture or the state of human habitat. Moreover, he was raised by shaman Indians. It's the least of his concerns.

The fact that he woke up in a place is what has him concerned. The fact that he woke up in an unfamiliar place with absolutely no recollection of how it happened or where this place is, in relation to everything he does know. Typically, what drives him is the scent of Lunar Flowers -- a Lunar Flower. Something must have driven him here -- to wake up here and to be prevented from leaving, but what it was and continues to be, he can't put his allegorical finger on it. His housing block had been explored, as well as the general area surrounding their little reservoir, the billboard even caught his eye, but he woke up feeling awfully groggy and drained. Basking in the moonlight has always been a remedy of sorts for that, but this is more pressing...given the uncertainty of his circumstances, refueling and further investigating is imperative.

And so, somewhere between the housing blocks, he managed to catch himself a rare delicacy (unbeknownst to him, these things have always been common among his travels) -- a rat. A highly preferred meal over rice pudding and odorless, dried pasta. Even better than hot dogs, if one were to ask. He devours everything except the tail in record timing, but the fatigue remains. Perhaps he's eaten it too quickly?  If he weren't so intuitive, an excuse like that would be acceptable. Sadly, for Kiba, this place reeks of bad news. The last time he felt so pessimistic was in the presence of Darcia. At least he's prepared.

Re: Axl | Megaman X | Not Reserved

[personal profile] copychip 2014-05-15 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:
Axl is a friendly, energetic Reploid, befitting his human teenager appearance and age. He tends to greet everyone and everything with a grin and casual attitude, which some feel is unfitting for a Maverick Hunter. Like what you'd expect from a teenager, Axl enjoys the action and thrill that comes with being a Maverick Hunter, and his eagerness to do missions shows in his words and behaviour. He's always first to leap into the fray, almost without regard to caution and his safety. He's also extremely mischievous and cheeky, and loves to fire quips at his enemies or taunt them if he has the chance. It's never ever landed him in hot water before, so he sees no problem in riling up the enemy with words. As they like to say about teenagers, Axl tends to act with the belief that he's invincible and the world can't do a thing to him.

But that's not to say there isn't actual skill to back his (somewhat inflated) confidence. The rank of S Class Hunter is only bestowed to a few Maverick Hunters, and that Axl managed to achieve this rank in the short time he's been a Hunter speaks a lot for his capabilities as a fighter. However, even before becoming a Hunter he's always been the sort to brag about himself and act cocky. When you're the only one you know with the special ability to transform into others and impersonate them, plus you're kickass at fighting? Does wonders on your confidence, that's for sure. That doesn't mean he places his entire self-worth on his transformation abilities. Rather, he places his worth in his ability to fight and utilize his copy abilities to augment his capabilities in a mission.

Axl's sense of justice is extremely strong, stronger than his bonds with others. To him, doing right is the most important thing in the world, which is why he has always aspired to become a Maverick Hunter. It was their job to subdue Mavericks, the people who were wrong, and he wanted to do that too. With Red Alert, he could do the right thing and take down Mavericks, which was why, at first, he hadn't bothered trying to become an official Maverick Hunter. But once it became apparent to him that Red Alert had changed and were becoming Mavericks (plus it seemed they were just using him for his ability and didn't really care for him), he abandoned them to join the Hunters, even though he had a familial bond with Red, the leader. Within the Hunters, he especially looks up to X and Zero, who have been long time Hunters and exceptionally skilled ones at that. Due to his idolism of the two, he tries his best to impress them, especially X, who was disapproving of him joining in the beginning. But eventually he does prove himself to be a valuable ally and talented Maverick Hunter.

Because Axl is young, he tends to view the world in black or white. Either you're a good guy or you're a bad guy. There's no time for doubts and what-ifs on the battlefield, and damn if he'll allow some Maverick to mess with his mind. Any weird "ideal" a Maverick spouts is just nonsense and dangerous, and they must be stopped. When you start to have doubts about what the Hunters are doing, that's when you have the greatest chance of becoming a Maverick, and Axl fully believes in the Hunters' cause, so he never gives the Mavericks' idea the opportunity to take root in his mind. His age prevents him from fully grasping the rationale behind the radical ideals of the Mavericks he meets, so usually X or Zero handle it on that front. However, he's not afraid to step in when he sees his comrades hesitating, as he did when they fought against Lumine, the director of the Jakob Project. But at the same time, justice comes first to him, and he would not hesitate to leave even his heroes, X and Zero, behind, if he thought they were doing the wrong thing.

Speaking of Mavericks, Axl is one of the few Reploids in existence who are immune to the Maverick Virus. At least, he thought he was. The Maverick Virus, sometimes also known as the Sigma Virus, is capable of infecting a Reploid's system and drive them to become violent and uncooperative, and it's one of three ways a Reploid can go Maverick. Typically, Reploids are programmed to be benevolent to humans and society in general but with the creation of the new generation Reploids, it's revealed that all new gen Reploids (possibly sans the prototype, Axl) have the Sigma Virus in their copy chip, allowing them to go Maverick at will. When he inquires with Lumine as to whether or not he also has the Sigma Virus within him, Lumine doesn't give him a straight answer, causing doubt about his immunity to form in his mind. This doubt is further increased after the events of X8, in which Lumine implants a shard of himself into Axl's helmet crystal lens. In fact, because Lumine did go Maverick and definitely had the Virus within him, Axl believes that he has a larger chance than most to go Maverick due to the Virus. But since the Virus was never confirmed to be in him, he decides not to let it bother him.

And that's another trait about Axl. He's always optimistic and forward looking. He's not the type to dwell on the past or think about what he could have done in a past situation to make it better. What's done is done, and what'll happen in the future will be okay, so long as he, X and Zero are around! To some, it might make him seem a bit callous, since he doesn't seem to fret much or feel guilty over his mistakes. But that's more because he's never made a serious mistake with even bigger consequences that couldn't be rectified easily, so he has yet to see the horrors that could result from an erroneous decision. He's not lacking in empathy or anything like that, he just hasn't seen how harsh the world can be.

Despite Axl's combat prowess and his rank as a Maverick Hunter, he's really just a naive child who hasn't yet seen enough of the horrors of the world to temper his childish daredevil attitude.

One last thing. Axl has rarely, if ever met a human before and since the human race is endangered because of the wars that go on between the Maverick Hunters and Mavericks, he believes that humans and other organic creatures are weak in comparison to Reploids. That doesn't necessarily mean he'll be rude and condescending to humans, no. They're part of the reason the Hunters fight against Mavericks, after all. However, he'll be prone to underestimating their ability to fight and persevere.

Abilities/Powers: As an advanced android, aka a reploid, Axl has all the perks you’d expect from a robot. That is, superhuman strength, stamina, endurance, quick reflexes, superior processing, etc. Pretty much the standard stuff with all combat type reploids. But there are a few abilities he has that separates him from other reploids.

Hover: Axl has jets installed in his leg armor which allow him to hover in air for a short amount of time, around 5 seconds or so. Very useful for crossing endless pits and spike traps.

Stealth Mode: Axl can transform to become invisible and impervious to all attacks with his stealth mode. However, this transformation can only last several minutes at most, after which he must cool down and return to his regular form and appearance.

White Axl: An armor set with no official name, it was most likely gained from Lumine, a Maverick who managed to land one last attack on Axl after his death and embed a shard of himself inside Axl's helmet crystal lens. This armor grants Axl the ability to indefinitely hover and transform, plus he has a longer ground dash. However, the armor warps Axl's sense of thinking and makes it easier for him to turn Maverick, so he avoids using it when he can. To state in more solid terms, the armor will cause him to think and act more violently, plus he'd be more inclined to agree with Lumine's radical views about new generation reploids being the next step of evolution for reploids. The ability to use the White Axl armor and Stealth Mode are mutually exclusive so he can't be in the White Axl armor and then use Stealth Mode.

A-Trans: Undoubtedly the most unique aspect of Axl is his ability to transform into other reploids. This is only possible because he is the prototype of a new generation of reploids, all of whom are installed with something called a “copy chip.” The copy chip allows new generation reploids to copy another reploid’s DNA core and transform their appearance to match that reploid, though he doesn't copy their personality. So essentially, Axl’s a shapeshifter. For Axl to copy a reploid’s DNA core, he fires a “copy shot” from his gun, which takes the DNA core data from the target reploid. It should be noted that the transformation only lasts for a few minutes.

As of Command Mission, Axl’s ability to transform has increased such that he’s able to copy almost any reploid, regardless of size or ability. Note that this ability is only capable of working on reploids, or any android with a DNA core. Since he’ll be pulled directly after Redips’ defeat in Command Mission, he has not had the time to purge the data of the reploids he’s copied during his forage to Giga City, so he’ll have the ability to transform into the eight reploids listed below for a short period of time. Their appearance is linked to their name.

Wild Jango: As Wild Jango, his claws are electrified and he can absorb thunder element attacks. He's also extremely quick, which is aided by the booster on his back. Finally, Axl can use his Rolling Assault move, a thunder elemental attack that deals heavy damage.

Mad Nautilus: As Mad Nautilus, he is heavily fortified and can counter attacks when shielded. He's also capable of doling out a huge variety of status effects, from poison to berserk to confusion. He's also capable of penetrating shields and armor with his Penetration move, and he only drops his shield when using his strongest move, Mad Ecstasy.

Incentas: As Incentas, he can switch between three elemental modes: Fire, Thunder and Ice/Water. Each mode grants him the ability to use and absorb attacks of those elements. Incentas also has Asura Knuckles, which is a non-elemental attack.

Rafflesian: As Rafflesian, he heals constantly and can cause enemies to go berserk. He's also able to use Thunder and Ice/Water moves.

Ninetails: Easily the strongest reploid of the eight Axl has access to. Ninetails can deal a lot of damage with his Nine Fragments and Annihilator Hadouken moves, and he has the ability to revive allies from unconsciousness. He's also capable of using elemental attacks.

Depth Dragoon: Like Wild Jango, as Depth Dragoon he absorbs Thunder based attacks and uses Thunder based moves. Unlike Jango though, he is weaker to Fire type moves, and has an array of status boosting moves to power up himself. Depth Dragoon also hovers indefinitely.

Mach Jentra: Mach Jentra grants Axl the ability to fly, as well as absorption and usage of Fire type moves. He's also capable of reducing the enemy's speed and increasing allies' defense, and can also stun enemies momentarily.

Silver Horn: With Silver Horn comes absorption and usage of Water/Ice type moves, though as a result he's weak to Thunder type moves. He's capable of freezing enemies in place and coating himself in a liquid metal that boosts defenses.

Items/Weapons: Axl Bullets – A pair of guns that Axl regularly uses. They fire plasma shots with no special quality to them. They can also fire copy shots for Axl's transformation ability.
Sample Entry: Thread at Hunter Academy | Another one | And a third one

Sample Entry Two:
The town was in ruins; or to be more accurate, this… village (because it really couldn’t be called a town) was in ruins. The buildings were falling apart, and most were abandoned and uninhabitable. The atmosphere was tense, the weather poor, and its inhabitants drained and looking cheerless more often than not. Food and water were scarce for the humans, and he couldn’t find a single working machine in the village. Haven was dreary, boring, and in need of a severe technological overhaul, Axl concluded. There was hardly anything interesting to do here, except talking with the numerous humans that populated Haven. That wasn’t much, really. Axl needed more.

But he had already scouted for potential enemies, and unsurprisingly, there were no Mavericks to be found. That was a bummer. However, he remembered hearing from some humans that there were monsters lurking in the garden underground and in the subway tunnels. They warned him to avoid those areas since he was new, but there was only so much boredom he could take before he needed something to do!

So with his trusty guns, he stepped into the subway station and continued walking through to the tunnel. As he entered, he began to feel the sensation of being watched, which made his synthetic hair stand on end and caused him to grip his guns a little more tightly. They did warn him that this would happen, but damn if the feeling didn’t bother him. A few more steps, and then they appeared. Creatures of odd shapes, looking feral and ready to tear him apart.

Axl grinned and settled into a fighting position, guns trained on the creatures slowly approaching him. This would be fun, he thought, and before he jumped into action, he opened his mouth to let out one last line.

“It’s time to rock and roll.”

Lumina | Final Fantasy XIII | Not Reserved

[personal profile] illuminas 2014-05-16 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:
"I swear that child is a demon." It's no wonder that the patron of Yusnaan thought that of the tiny trickster girl, though many of the other citizens of Nova Chrysalia apparently make light of her penchant for mischief. Her interactions with Lightning are less "mischievous" and more "randomly antagonistic", however, but that may be because Lumina is a part of Lightning; the part she rejected in order to be what she considered strong. Lumina has a skill for sticking her nose where it doesn't belong, in the name of help. And while some of her meddling does have a golden lining (she procures the coffer of souls so that Sazh can restore his son's soul, as well as points out that he needs to be less sad and mean if he wants his kid to return) there are somethings you just have to go "what the hell, Lumina" (such as when he purposely gives Noel an oracle drive with a fake prophecy of him killing Lightning...) though it's likely that Lumina sees even her more... rude stunts as "helpful" in their own way. She's very much a big picture person over little details.

And Lumina does mean to help-- well and have fun, as she states herself. She is far from a normal child, and clearly considers it her job to in particular check-in on Lightning's friends (including being there when Fang and Vanille were freed from crystal, pestering Snow enough that he thinks she's a demon, etc) while Lightning was, y'know, missing for five hundred years. That said, Lumina has a habit of seeing the world and the people in it as her playthings, so to speak. While she has a desire to help others, she is very playful and incredibly unpredictable. When she appears to Lightning, it's usually to taunt her or summon monsters for the Savior to fight. Despite her clear dislike of God (aka Bhunivelze), it could be said that she has a habit of playing God herself-- or, no. Rather, she plays snack-sized guardian angel. The residents of Nova Chrysalia seem to regard her mischievous antics lightly. To be fair, who could hold anything against such a sweet face? (Snow Villiers didn't seem to be a fan, but it could be that it's the weird resemblance to his dead fiancée throwing him off. Or that Lumina has just been a brat to him.)

While not a normal child, she is a child. Having fun is clearly a priority, even if it's followed closely by whatever tangled up help she gives others. She is easily amused, not surprising since she often has the upper hand. Some of her "helping" antics barely seem that at all-- giving an oracle drive with a false prophecy to kill Lightning to a guy, trying to convince Lightning to kill Snow to put him out of misery-- but they are. Lumina has a good understanding of those around her, of the humans that she toys with most. Of course, by that time she had been running around for five hundred years, so it's not entirely amazing. Though she seems to be the only one who's gotten anything done in all that time, even if most of it could be summarized as "general mayhem and mischief".

Lumina is the part of Claire Farron that Lightning wanted to be rid of-- "I'm Claire Farron. Her selfishness, her loneliness, her fear. That little bit of your soul that you couldn't accept." And these are the traits that make up Lumina's core; a selfish, lonely, and scared child. Lumina is not Lightning and Lightning isn't Lumina, but both of them are Claire Farron. Both of them care for the same people, in particular Claire's sister Serah. It's no real wonder that Lumina toys with Lightning like a cat with a mouse, considering that she knows the woman best and could be a bit hurt by Lightning essentially tossing her away like trash-- and she only reintegrates once Lightning realizes she doesn't want to be sucked into the Chaos and left alone, in other words once Lightning sucks it up and stops trying to reject her emotions.

Lumina | Final Fantasy XIII | Not Reserved | 3/3

[personal profile] illuminas 2014-05-16 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
Abilities/Powers:
• Lumina is not human. She's essentially the repressed emotions of Claire Farron. She looks human, feels human, but has special powers and can dance around in the chaos without being, y'know, disintegrated. She isn't some immortal being, however, and likely has no other special traits/powers than as listed here.
Teleportation, appears/disappears with a flash of light.
• Monster summoning. She canonly only summons a couple of different monsters, it is unknown what her "range" or stock of monsters for summoning is.
• Chaos. Chaos in the FFXIII world is force that destroys everything it touches. However, humans all have a piece of chaos in their soul-- it could be said that this is what Lumina is made of. She walks through it unharmed and refers to the monsters it can spawn as her "friends".

Items/Weapons: Aside from her clothes, Lumina comes with Lightning's Crimson Blitz sword, which she broke; and nothing else because she doesn't have three items to choose from. :|

Sample Entry:
[ A young girl with a mischievous grin and pink hair appears on screen. She gives a small wave of greeting, then directs the camera's phone over to where the convenience store and Pyramid Head lie. She's fairly far away from him, obviously, since otherwise she would be shredded by now. ]

Now, I'm quite curious-- what's this thing supposed to be? It's not a person, I don't think... [ Is it a plant/mineral/animal, then. ] I'd ask it myself, but! I saw someone try that. It didn't seem to go too well.

[ She means someone got ripped to pieces by it; "didn't seem to go too well" is an understatement. ] Is there a way to approach it without it wanting to rip me up?

[ It may be prudent to advise the small child to not approach the murderous triangle-headed thing guarding the store. Or perhaps just drag her away from the area, since she doesn't seem to take seeing someone get ripped to shreds as much of a warning to STAY AWAY. ]

Sample Entry Two:
She could hear Lightning call out, and she'd been coming to her... now all she heard was the beep of some machine. There's a moment of fear, of sharp loneliness until she hears the rustling noises of other people in the room. They may be strangers, but somehow not being all alone is enough to calm her. A clock is going off. Sitting upright and swinging her legs over the side of the bed, she looks around until she finds the source. Then she casually gets up and turns it off. There, that's better.

Lumina doesn't linger long in her apartment before she goes out to inspect her new surroundings. Humming pleasantly, she isn't panicking like some people seem to be. In fact, she isn't horribly concerned at all. Yes, she doesn't want to be here. But she is, so might as well have a bit of fun while she figures a way out, right? And figuring a way out requires exploring! Apparently, anyway, since Lumina has never been in such a situation before. It's just a bit fascinating to her. Just a bit.

After a walk, she finds herself in front of the black, deep Void. She stares into it, curious. "This isn't like the Chaos, is it?" That's not said to anyone in particular; she's just musing aloud. "No, not at all. What is it, then?"

She's half-tempted to jump in and find out, but thinks better of it. If it isn't Chaos, there's no telling what might happen if she were to leap in. She might not even be able to teleport out, and that'd be terribly troublesome. That doesn't mean she isn't considering finding out, however.

Personality:
Kuroko Tetsuya now has qualities of his younger self but exists in current canon considerably more solid than he once was. This can be taken both literally and figuratively. A ghost-like presence hardly noticed since what seems forever, it never appears to be something that bothered the boy. He states things and views them with a deadpan matter-of-factness that often throws people off guard, and while he did not always do this, it is a trait born largely of his keen observation skills, which do stem from his history.

After seeing a game of basketball when he was in fifth grade, Kuroko wanted to try it for himself; so he did, but there were no clubs and whatnot near him, so he would go to play alone. One gets the impression that even back then he did not feel sorry for himself nor think of it even in regards to himself -- that 'alone' reality. He wanted to play; he played. That was that. Until someone changed that stasis of phantom-like stature. Until he met Ogiwara Shigehiro. This boy was better than him and also friendly towards him, and together they played. Then Ogiwara moved and Kuroko entered Teikou middle school. At this time in the flashback revealing this partition of Kuroko's life, we do not, at first, see much in the way of personality or presence. Some of this is just, probably, because it's a flashback and driven by what happens in order to shed light on the plot in real-time; but the rest, I believe is because Kuroko genuinely grows to have more of a personality and character in his years at Teikou -- whether his fellow classmates notice or not, whether they think he's 'always' been this way …or not. Those years were both formative and hurtful, irreplaceable, and these things follow Kuroko into the real-time beginning of the canon, clear in how they manifest once one knows what transpired.

As to that: Kuroko joined the basketball club, of course. But as ever he had no obvious aptitude in any capacity be it speed or stamina, certainly not other areas of would-be speciality. But he practiced long and long after school was over, so much so that there came a rumor in his school that the court he practiced on was haunted, since no one ever 'saw' him there. A ghost, they said. This holds relevance for later with his diminished presence, but more importantly for the fact that it drew one Aomine Daiki to the scene.

The first light:
When introduced to Aomine in real-time the impression given is one of a super-talented but lazy and somewhat callous jerk. Back in the days of Teikou however, this was not always the case. Aomine was the one who not only acknowledged Kuroko's effort but encouraged him to stick to basketball rather than quit when the boy's resolve faltered (something we have in fact only seen a couple times in canon -- this instance, and also in a game against Aomine and his team in high school.) He says this: "there is no such thing as a useless player on a team". Sadly, when the Teikou team stops operating as, well, a team, that feeling gets left behind. Before that though, a companionship is formed, Aomine staying to practice with Kuroko late even though he's the last person who needs to. And although it is Akashi who ends up seeing Kuroko's specific potential, it is Aomine who puts himself on the line when it looks like Kuroko will be taken off the first string players.

He tries to protect Kuroko based on the faith that what Kuroko has the capacity to do will "one day save us", or in basketball terms, move them to victory, one way or another. What he says to Kuroko when questioned as to why he did that, he says: "Well it just isn't fair, ya know, if a guy like Tetsu can't seize his chance. I'm sure opportunities present themselves to everyone -- hard working guys, guys who don't work at all, basically anyone. But in the end, I think the ones who should be able to seize those opportunities are the hard working guys. … You've still got a chance. If it's Tetsu, you have the strength to grasp it. You can do it!" Kuroko does, in fact, and as he refines his phantom passing technique game by game, it becomes quickly clear that he syncs best with Aomine. It's in Teikou that he takes up the mantle and definition first of a shadow; a player who becomes stronger in the brightest light. Aomine's words of encouragement from before, however, are later shatteringly ironic considering how apathetic he becomes, how careless. But really it is because of this fortified history of crucial moments and a love of basketball between them that Kuroko feels so strongly about bringing the old Aomine back. He knows he liked it best when Aomine played with a smile and wants to see that again; he thinks that winning against Aomine is the first pivotal step in getting through to his old friend.

Considering his generally somewhat underwhelming behavior both in expression and tone, Kuroko is a curious sort of character, for he very much has feelings and motivations, and even reasons to be conflicted about those things; but at the same time he isn't as conflicted as one might expect. He does not hide his emotions though it is reasonable to state that a person could easily not notice if one wasn't paying him particular attention. Aomine seems in canon to make him angry at first -- Kuroko saying something to the effect of not liking "his" basketball, his way of playing -- but it's not a flat anger; it's history, the frustration of knowing who he was before and being aware that a lack of challenge having incited this laziness wasn't really Aomine's fault but also that Aomine chose to shut everything out, even though he didn't have to. This separation is signaled by Aomine refusing their signature fistbump and continuing away from him. Literally and figuratively. So Kuroko is angry with him and, I think, sad for him too; he never distrusts Aomine's passion for the game so much as his treatment of the game without a rival to bolster him or spur him onward.

It's also worth noting that as someone who doesn't often lose his cool, Kuroko does attempt to pass through Aomine in a game despite the obviousness that the ex-teammate will stop it, and when that does happen he still seems struck dumb: like he's wondering if this is as far as he can go after all, knowing that's not nearly far enough for him or his once friend. All that said, when they do win, Kuroko asks Aomine to return the fistbump he refused so long ago and Aomine looks both embarrassed and surprised, but Kuroko simply says: "put yourself in the shoes of the ignored." It's not melodramatic so much as the usual Kuroko way of things: factual. As if in that one sentence he is saying: I was waiting for this. To be remembered, to recognize this person standing in front of me. Aomine does return it. Things improve somewhat after that, Aomine even agreeing to help Kuroko with his shooting when it's decided passes just won't be enough in the games to come.

After the end of his days at Teikou, Kuroko went to a high school whose team was new, a team he'd seen play and admired for the solidarity he sensed there. No one understood why except for him, and perhaps Teikou's captain, Akashi, but that's a dynamic for when we have yet more canon another day.

To jolt us to the present, it's both necessary and symmetrically appealing to bring up Kuroko's new 'light'. One, Kagami Taiga.

The new light:
A powerhouse of raw potential and some skill at the beginning, Kagami is the same sort of player Aomine used to be. After going one-on-one with him, Kuroko is both unsurprised and nonplussed at losing so utterly. "Of course Kagami-kun is stronger," is all he says, though that seems to irritate Kagami even more. Later after demonstrating his technique and therefore his strength, Kuroko tells Kagami he has decided to make him number one in Japan's basketball arena by being his shadow. Worth noting: this is only after Kagami has stated his own intent on becoming number one anyway, which suggests somewhat that Kuroko's finality was hinging on the other's resolve. A light should be decisive, a shadow sharp. More than only Kagami though, Kuroko finds his own resolve has become to make Kagami and the whole team number one, and when he says he will try to do so, Kagami makes the correction: no, we WILL be number one in Japan. This Kuroko writes outside with chalk the next morning before school, so when Kagami arrives he sees all the students looking out the window and spots the message as well before glancing over at Kuroko knowingly.

Despite their rocky start, their being on the same page regarding their intent for the team and their love of basketball both feed into what ends up being a ridiculously synced bond. No one can calm Kagami down or stop him from doing something supremely stupid as well as Kuroko can. Similarly, no one can bolster Kuroko or remind him of why he loves the game the way Kagami can. They inhabit a very eye-for-an-eye lifestyle with one another whether it's a jab to the ribs or sometimes tactless honesty. When they run cooperations together the fluidity of the play has a natural quality to it, and at one point Teikou's old manager Momoi Satsuki mentions that it reminds her of how Kuroko used to be with Aomine too. Although their relationship is formed and cemented around the sport of basketball, it is clear that their friendship extends beyond battles for victory and summer training. They're friends. In the most basic yet fundamental senses: caring about the other's feelings, interest in the other's past, investment in each other's future. It sounds cheesy because this brand of truthful solidarity often is, especially in the context of a team sport, but that doesn't make it any less a reality.

By contrast with Kuroko's past involving Aomine, there is basically no baggage because they haven't had any reason for it. Except for a brief stint where Kuroko thought Kagami was going into a mindset like that of the Generation of Miracles ("winning is everything") and seemed to be moving in the direction of being a one-man show, they simply haven't had any rifts and those moments which could have caused a lasting wound tend to be dealt with in-the-moment. Also as a worthwhile point: Kagami had been doing no such thing as getting stronger for his own sake but for the sake of how he would benefit both himself and the team. It took Kuroko longer than usual to understand this and even then it was only with the helpful words of Kiyoshi Teppei. I think some of this has to do with Kuroko's normally disturbingly good observational skills being clouded by a throwback to his experience at Teikou and the warning he received from Kise (however incorrect it was.) Anyway, in the end they are on the same page again and there just isn't any noteworthy conflict between them after that.

Some of this can be credited to the fact that Kagami, while dumb as sand in some respects, has his own sense of awareness regarding his actions and the actions of others. Another factor is just that Kuroko has learned from what happened in Teikou and while he was blunt and straightforward back then too, one gets the sense that in the real-time timeline, he's also possessed of more conviction, a more mature conviction than he used to have. He has Kagami to back him up or encourage him sure, but he has his own resolve and is plenty stubborn with it, but true to form Kagami wouldn't likely have Kuroko any other way. They work well together because of both their differences and their common ground, basically.

At one point, Kagami says this: "there is no such thing as a futile effort".

While a different person might have been disheartened by the similarity of the new light's words to the old one's, Kuroko is encouraged if shocked. It is what he needs to hear. At the core of their friendship, providing what is 'needed' is a recurring keystone.

I've gone over the two primaries, but the truth is Kuroko is heavily multi-faceted. His history with each member of the Generation of Miracles is significant in a lesser or greater degree. Particularly it is important to know Akashi Seijuurou was not only the one who recognized his potential but also hinted Kuroko in the right direction of where to take his ability, how to sharpen it even though he never gave him a straight answer. Also noteworthy: though no longer teammates, and obviously disapproving of the victory-trumps-everything ethos, Kuroko does in fact respond when called by Akashi, along with the others to meet. It's never explicitly stated why, but Kuroko is a person who has deep respect for his friends, teammates, and 'senpai'. It is reasonable to conclude that this sort of obedience is a combination of curiosity and respect for how they used to be. Again, while not overly emotional, Kuroko is still sensitive, but this is not exclusive to being, say, super conscientious of other people (though he can be.) It depends on the interaction really. Where he is considerate and even gentle with Momoi, the way he is considerate with Kagami is much blunter. Kuroko wasn't kidding when he said he was a shadow, but it's not a point of bitterness for him in the least. It lets him observe people, it lets him learn, and it lets him get close. How long that lasts will always vary, but it's a way of being that he is not only accustomed to but just fine with.

Before the round-up, I want to bring Ogiwara Shigehiro back to the forefront for a second. As mentioned before, he was the first person to play with Kuroko at all and also to teach him how in the first place, but after a disastrous defeat at the hands of Teikou (a game in which Kuroko was unable to play anyway, though he holds himself responsible for what happened) Ogiwara loses the heart for playing. He still believes in Kuroko though; the wristband Kuroko wears belonged to him, a symbol of Ogiwara's faith in him, despite his loss of resolve for basketball itself. His friend, who Kuroko runs into when he goes looking for Ogiwara himself, conveys this message of belief, saying that essentially Ogiwara who loved basketball more than any of them was crushed but he still believes Kuroko can one day melt the cold eyes of the Generation of Miracles. As the series goes on, there are repeated references to how the eyes of the Miracles change after typically losing to Seirin, all associated with a sense of affection for the game itself again and not just winning for winning's sake -- a hollow non-victory, if anyone was to ask Kuroko.

Straightforward, resolute, quiet, and deadpan both in humor (something he has a substantial amount of, though it can fly unnoticed) and regular things, Kuroko loves basketball and cares for his friends dearly. He can be very protective of them and while he is not in the habit of defending bad behavior such as Aomine's apathy or laziness, he can acknowledge that he has been like that while also acknowledging he has the ability to change, if he wants to. His anger is rare but furious when it happens, sometimes tinged with a hurt undertone -- when he puts Kagami in his place regarding the match against Shuutoku in chapter 32 -- and other times just outright disparaging -- such as in the game against the underhanded Kirisaki Daīchi High in chapter 128. Although a shadow at large, Kuroko does not think of himself as expendable or less worthwhile, and while he does not exactly wear his heart on his sleeve, he makes no mystery of his feelings except sometimes by omission. (He is often guilty of not saying something simply because no one asked him, for instance.) He has especially keen observation skills and a good memory, and once decided in purpose or goal, he can be unflappable. While mostly unreadable, he does seem to get annoyed by almost silly things: being called a child or treated like one.

Abilities/Powers:
Unlike the other players, Kuroko is not super strong and his stamina is not the best; however his "special ability" is off the charts. If it was a scale of 10, his would be a 15. Ahem. Anyway. At the center of his technique is one version or another of 'misdirection' in which he leads the eye one way while completing an action in the other. This plays into his invisible passes and his vanishing drive -- all basketball plays, all unique to him. There are others but again they really only apply within the game. Evidently Kuroko can perform basic magic tricks and even use his lack of presence to 'disappear' in one such trick, effectively, but as Kise once said, it's not actual magic. He has just sharply honed the art of sleight of hand and trickery. He is also, evidently, quite good with crafts. Hypothetically, Kuroko's ability could be applied outside of basketball but considering the fact that he hasn't much tried except for novelty actions, the success rate (or even what he would attempt) looks pretty narrow/unpromising. As said before, he is very observant and typically has a fair sense in terms of attack plans/ stratagems in general -- at least for basketball. His overwhelmingly underwhelming 'presence' could be seen as an ability given the right situation; even without his tricks of redirecting focus, Kuroko has a profoundly bizarre way of existing under the radar, constantly being not just overlooked but outright not noticed even when standing right in front of the person looking for him/ at him.

Sample Entry Two:
He knows the story this book ought to have, but no matter how many times he turns the pages they remain mysteriously blank. It has been at least twenty minutes since he woke in a strange bed, but he has yet to leave it, preoccupied with his book and, to a lesser extent, the slightly unreal sense he gets from his surroundings. Like a dream, or a moment caught longer than usual in suspension.

"Hm."

Kuroko blinks, thumbing the pages again, more for the feel and the slight fan of air their domino-effect results in. Strange and stranger; at least he's read it before already. Still. Underneath him the bed is neither comfortable nor rocky, and while he could swear the last moment he was quite awake, he feels the remnant tug of sleep anyway. Confusing. One hand still pinching the book in its fingers, he uses the other to rub across closed eyes as he sits up. Some people would be alarmed, others frightened. Kuroko finds himself rather another thing entirely.

His stomach makes a plaintive sound.

A vanilla milkshake would be due about now.

Of course the spartan quality of this strange room doesn't give him high hopes...

He swings his legs over the side of the bed, making just the scarcest of sound. It's not that he's trying, just that if he doesn't handle it consciously, that's how he is: subtle. Sometimes to a fault, but usually just as a norm. Tilting his head, first one way then the other, he puts to memory the basics of the unit before standing. This causes the basketball at the foot of his bed to roll off, tapping the floor and rolling until it hits the adjacent wall. Ah.

Unconsciously, he tugs at the wristband from his old friend, thumb hooked on the inside just feeling the tension before the soft snap.

His book. His ball. Himself. The only familiar things.

If it's a dream there is no reason not to explore further; if it isn't a dream he can't find anything out anyway just by staying in here. Besides, he hears activity outside. Who else is here? After picking up the ball, he leaves the room, hesitation not occurring to him. It isn't even accurate to say he's unafraid, but if a feeling doesn't occur to a person, it's less a matter of being or not being. It could still happen. But for the moment Kuroko finds himself to be quite his ordinary, everyday self: calm and eyes open to detail.

Personality:
The first thing that can be said about Cleo is that she’s an extremely loyal person. As an active soldier who’s served in two wars, duty and loyalty mean everything to her. After her first tour of duty, she even took up a role of service in her commander’s household to work more. She sticks to her word and convictions above all else; if she says she’s going to do something, she’s damn well going to do it. When tasked with the simple task of protecting the Young Master (Tir), she goes above and beyond her call of duty at every turn, even helping him as he joined a rebellion. As a seasoned soldier, Cleo is usually calm, collected, firm-minded, well-mannered, and the voice of reason.

But Cleo also isn’t an idiot. When she sees someone doing something wrong, it hurts her—she sees her country abandoning their people, and her vow is forgotten to save those that are right in front of her. In contrast to Pahn, who blindly follows the empire, Cleo’s morals are well-defined and she sticks to those as well. She can’t turn a blind eye to people being hurt even if it goes against her word. She’ll stand up for her friends when an entire army is brought to her doorstep, quickly reciting the law that forbids them from entering, all because she refuses to see people get hurt for no reason.

And that’s what makes Cleo different. She’s a loyal soldier to the Scarlet Moon Empire, but she’s not a blind patriot, either. While she becomes a traitor in the eyes of many, she never sees herself like that. By continuing to side with Tir McDohl, she knows that she’s fighting for a better future for her country. Her loyalties and her duties are so important to her, but she’s not a woman who’s willing to sacrifice her morals just to follow a law. She stands by her friends. She’s sympathetic to the needs of others. She’s a voice of reason for most of the game, but she’s not so strong that she never feels, either.

And she’s far from perfect. While she’s a strong woman with a sassy comeback to every situation, she has a few weaknesses of her own. While she’d normally never agree to kill someone without thinking, the death of her companion and housemate Gremio sends her into a rage where she offers to kill Millich, in her eyes a murderer, herself. After seeing her commander, Teo, die at the hands of her new master, she goes along with Tir on his next few missions, telling him that she needs to keep moving or she’ll lose herself to regret and sadness.

Cleo also has a big heart—it doesn’t show often, but she can’t bear the thought of turning away from someone in need. At one point, she’s frustrated and desperate when she encounters a young Ted after traveling through time. Having seen the older him die, she tries to warn him about his fate, but has to force herself to stop. In one dialogue option, she also tries to bring him to the future with Tir. In another important conversation about her character, she reveals that her being a woman has nothing to do with her fighting and she doesn’t care how people see it. As long as she has something to protect, she’ll always be fighting.

For the most part, Cleo is a stern caretaker. She’ll casually snark with anyone available, but she’ll also dispense advice about fighting and how to live life when she sees fit. If no one is going to take charge or enforce a rule, you can be sure she will, even if she has to get angry. And she’s a knight in service—if anyone were to come between her and someone she’s protecting, they’d have a fierce fight on her hands no matter what. She recognizes the value of what she does, and she has no regrets about how she’s lived her life, and at the end of the day? She’s just fine with resting her feet, casually eating dinner with what remains of her family, and writing in her diary. She’s not just a soldier or a woman—she’s a person, too.

Abilities/Powers: Cleo will be bringing a Rage Rune with her into Haven, giving her access to powerful fire magic. She's a deadly mage and a skilled knife-thrower, and she's also skilled with archery.
Items/Weapons: Rage Rune, Air Moonstar swords, Sacrificial Jizo (revives her upon a fatal blow)

Sample Entry Two:
So this is how it was going to be. Another battlefield. For all intents and purposes, that’s what Haven was, after all. She had been filled in by everyone else, by people who have been here longer than she had. They all said the same things to her. Dangerous. Don’t trust this, don’t drink that. So even after watching her makeshift family get torn apart from the war...some deceased, some leaving home...she was going to have to put her life back on the line again. One moment, she was ready to retire her armor and her daggers and her magic, but here she was.

Well, if that was how it was going to be, she certainly wasn’t going to sit around and despair over it. She was better than that. She woke early that morning, donned her armor, and headed towards the tunnels by herself. At times like these, she knew it was better to fight. She needed to stay in shape. She’d heard that these people, Yao, this place...it gets the jump on people. She didn’t care. If she had any choice in the matter, she’d rather be caught prepared and in-shape.

That was what she told herself, anyways. On some level, she knew that she was just picking a fight with some tunnel monsters just so she’d have something to do. Sure, it was dagger practice, but she didn’t want to think about this—she didn’t want to think about Ted being alive or poison water or spirals. She just wanted to feel alive.

She took a quick glance over her shoulder before entering the tunnels. There wasn’t anyone behind her. She wasn’t foolish. She reminded herself that she wouldn’t go far, and she’d come right back out to rest. With a heavy sigh, she turned her attention back to the entrance in front of her and kept walking, hands at her side. Whichever poor critter showed its face first was going to regret it.

Personality:

”Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth”

From the beginning, through all his hardships, Jude really is probably the nicest and kindest guy one would meet. He used to just go with the flow, and did whatever anyone else wanted to, and was a guy with a good heart through and through. To the point he had been given the title of a ‘Do-Gooder’ because he wants to help others, which is likely why he had chosen to move from the small town Leronde to the big city of Fennmont to pursue becoming a doctor.

Jude is a rather calm and composed boy for his age and is very observant to his surroundings with the ability to think fast when needed. He’s able to find small details that his party can use to their advantage in a tight situation, where others might not notice it themselves. As the game unfolds, it’s clear that Jude has great dedication to he does, and holds great adoration for Milla who came into his life so unexpectedly and had such a huge impact on him in what she teaches him in their travels together. Without her, he would never have learned to follow his own path and make his own decisions; to become his own man, so to speak.

As it stands overall though, he is a very smart and honest young man and isn’t the kind of person who would lie about his motives or what he’s wishing to do. However, despite being very book smart, he’s a little slow on the intake when it comes to real-time situations and has been unsuspectingly pulled into situations without thinking and ending up embarrassing himself. Another thing to note is that he’s reasonable and tries to find a solution that would work for everyone in a situation; coming up with a compromise if anything else. His mindset definitely follows the set of an honors student, and he sternly follows a very specific principle which is continually quoted throughout the game itself.

”If you leave an egg in an empty box and said egg gets crushed, the cause must lie within the egg itself”

Being an honors student, he references this a lot during situations and knows that with this principle by Professor Howe, it was him that helped create the use of the spirit artes everyone in Rieze Maxia uses today. Trust me. It is something he will easily recall to anyone if it’s ever brought up. Being booksmart will do that to a person. Yet being such a soft-hearted person, he was bullied as a kid and never let it get him down, getting back up and continuing onward, but it won’t stop him from calling out flaws with something if the situation calls for it. Catching contradictory things or pointing out just what isn’t right, yet sometimes acting a little naïve without even thinking twice about it.

Jude’s far from a regular kid who has a happy family though, as him and his father really don’t see eye to eye on things and they don’t really get much family time outside of work. His father treated him like a child and it took getting away from Leronde, attending Medical School in Fennmont that helped with that, but by doing this, it started a cycle where he was simply being a do-gooder and just pleasing others until he had met Milla which, again, is why she’s so influential in his life. Though the one thing that doesn’t change is that he’s still amazingly good at reading people, as that’s a good trait to have for a doctor, and it’s perhaps of this and his knowledge of things that makes it so he’s not really surprised by the type of people that live in the world, though not having experienced meeting them in person himself could change it.

He tends to also act a bit older for his age, and seems to know how to act in front of others when the right situation calls for it, though he’s very much aware of it. This ‘Do-Gooder’ nature of his is pretty much what he almost seems to consider a weakness but can’t really stop from doing these ‘do-gooder’ kinds of things because that’s just who he is. An example would be in how he can’t turn a blind eye to people in distress, which is how it came to that he essentially ‘kidnapped’ Elize from her ‘prison’ in Hamil and got Milla to agree to have Elize join them. He truly believes it was going to help in the long run, and she would be happier away from this horrible place she was left in, taking it seriously as part of his mission.

On this note, when you consider everything, it’s really glaringly obvious of these little imperfections that you notice how it makes up a person. Like, having good intentions but not being able to correctly verbalize that, is something that can be brought up and it describes Jude rather well. He’ll have a good intention, work it out in his head but aloud it sounds almost insensitive without thinking, but it isn’t like he doesn’t know what he’s saying as Jude always means well in what he says to others. He actually does, by virtue of being who he is, seem to be this strange catalyst in bringing the best out in others, even if it’s just saying the right thing in a critical situation. In doing this alone, he’s helped people make up their minds and find their resolves or convictions. This is a great example in showing how through the events of the game, how he’s been forced to grow up and mature too soon in such a time, but he bears it well for his age.

That being something which also becomes obvious when tied back with his ability to communicate with others as it has lead to some odd, but hilarious situations. Like being able to admit when a woman is pretty, though others would assume it meant he liked them despite speaking objectively about it. There’s times with that when one questions how much he knows as he understands when bondage is mentioned and knowing what a ‘catcher’ is, but then being completely oblivious to other things like ‘bazongas’ and the deeper meaning behind direct tethering with a spirit, once more showing his naivete despite the otherwise mature person he presents himself as in game.

If you consider his relationships with those around him, they’re also very vital keys in seeing just what kind of person Jude is. Like how he is a different person around Rowen, Milla, Alvin and Elize, and then another when it comes to his childhood friend Leia. With her, a different side of him is visible as they’ve grown up together and know the things the others won’t, and he’ll show her these aspects because he feels comfortable around her to not put up that do-gooder act because he knows he doesn’t have to please her. He’s sarcastic, but is also acts a lot like a brother to her, which is why when he seems to make almost insensitive jabs at her; not to be rude, but because he knows she’s strong and can take it. He’s more honest around her than he is with everyone else, yet it’s so obvious throughout the game that he doesn’t see her feelings for him and hurts her unintentionally without thinking. As things proceed in game, one sees also just how Jude knows how to handle Leia and all of her energy, even being concerned about her well-being as he knows how she was sick as a child. He could be seen as cold in attitude when he regards her, but it’s just how well he knows and understands Leia that there’s no need to hold back.

Where it comes to his family, there’s a lot that could be said, but the obvious one is, as stated earlier, how he and his father don’t really see eye to eye, wanting him to accept who he is and rebelling against him a few times in game and getting himself slapped for it one time. Yet it’s through his time interacting with his father that he learns to take responsibility for what he’s started and gotten himself into, and has become bolder to talk back to his father when he couldn’t before.

Milla however, happens to be the most influential person of them all, as she did force him to end up changing how he saw and did things. She questioned his convictions after he did each thing in game and if he’s doing them because others wanted, or if he was doing them because he wanted to, despite if others didn’t like it. She starts out as a questionable figure that he soon comes to respect and admire, even crush on, and slowly turns into something close to an unhealthy obsession with her. Could even say he loved her, as he did everything to help her and stay by her side to the extent it’s like, without her he couldn’t keep living. Which, when she ends up sacrificing herself so the others could live, it’s seen that it seems to become almost true.

From the beginning he has had it, subtly from when he just followed her despite the things he feared. Death was scary in itself and he was afraid of it, but he kept moving onwards despite that, though soon he just came to fear losing Milla herself and when she WAS gone, it felt like he had no reason to go on. It was bad enough that he nearly died by starving himself and having a gun pointed at him by Alvin whom was determined to go back to his home world. Killing Jude and Leia were his ticket home, after all. Though this psychological injury was made worse when Muzet dug in as deeply as she possibly could, using harsh words and revealing the true nature of things while deepening his wounds. Saying he should get rid of his emotions, which likely lead to his emotional state in game for the longest time, and he surely would have died if it hadn’t been for Leia’s actions and seeing Alvin’s conviction to kill them and get home. This also served another purpose in helping him realize that he should start making his own decisions and thinking for himself, and that he wouldn’t want to throw away the gift of life that Milla had given to them in sacrificing herself.

Jude really is a good-hearted guy with a mild lack of confidence – which he’s working on – that got in a bit over his head with this entire situation. Though he doesn’t at all regret it, and it hurt a lot at times, this journey so far has helped him start maturing into the man he will eventually become.

Abilities/Powers:

Since there’s a LOT of artes the characters themselves can use, I’ll be linking a list of them but explain the basics of them first if it’s allowed.

Everyone in the world of Rieze Maxia can use things like Spirit Artes. This is something that is enacted by people sharing mana with spirits and in turn they help them with artes that can be used for everything and have four different elements that can be used with them. They were born with something called a ‘mana-lobe’ which helps with this, and it gives Jude a way to fight, while unorthodox. He uses his fists to enact artes into his punches and kicks, and is quick on his feet in battle. He’s also capable of healing to an extent since he’d been training to be a doctor before.

He uses a lot of martial artes that he learned in his childhood to defend himself, and while he’s not like a master/pro at it, he’s still pretty good at it and can land sharp, precise hits on an enemy. Jude is able to change his style depending on whom he’s linked with [in canon] and even seems to be a bit acrobatic as he’s had artes where he stands on his hands to kick an enemy into the air.

Lastly he can dodge an enemy attack and take that opening to go behind them to attack, tying into his quick ability on his feet.

For the artes themselves, they can be found Here!

Sample Entry:

[ The world really could be cruel.

Upon waking in a world that wasn’t even his home, it had honestly been a shock to him as he was without anyone he knew. Yet when his face appears on screen, there’s nothing but an air of calm with the aid of a smile; albeit somewhat unnerved a bit. ]

Uh, hey.

I don’t think I really understand just what’s going on here. I mean, I know where I am, but that’s just about it. [ A pause and he looks thoughtful for a moment. ] I’d be really grateful if someone could fill me in with some more information.

I do have to admit it was a little weird waking up here, though I’m sure that I’m definitely not the first one who’s probably said that.

[ Jude then seems to go quiet and he glances out the window nearby, remaining so for a second or two before his eyes widen a little and he looks back to the screen with a somewhat determined look on his face. ]

Could anyone tell me if there’s significance to that billboard you see when you wake up here? Something seems off about it and it isn’t just the message or the picture itself, but I could just be reading into it too much.

Sample Entry Two:

Everything would be alright now, wouldn’t it? He’d spent too long in the dark, burned by the words of Muzet’s that she’d said so coldly and the idea that Milla was really gone. Believing that there was nothing left for him to do and in doing so nearly lost the life that Milla had spared; his and Leia’s as well whom he still felt awful for how he’d treated her recently.

His wounds were still fresh but they were healing up, and once they found Maxwell – the real one – they could maybe all get some answers and he wasn’t going to back down. Not after everything so far. Leaving it be left a bad taste in his mouth and he knew Milla long would have made the step to go ahead and search for answers herself instead of acting like he had. Nobody was going to save them, they had to take responsibility for their own actions and speak for themselves.

Live out this life that he’d taken for granted.

It was a thought that lingered in the back of Jude’s mind even as he rolled over in his sleep, though something about the action itself just felt off. Perhaps it was the light that shone in onto the bed, or even the loud buzzing of something right near him, completely waking Jude with a jolt as he sat bolt upright in the bed. Golden-brown eyes went wide as he took in the surroundings with a bit of alarm, as nothing looked at all familiar, and not to mention that Rowen, Elize and Leia were completely gone when they’d just been with him a moment ago. “…What…?” He whispered the question to nobody in particular as he moved to get up off the bed, turning to look at it and then everything else before crossing his arms over his chest idly.

“…This doesn’t make sense. Just what is going on here?” Jude shook his head and slowly walked over to the window, taking in the desolate environment with mute shock and disbelief. This definitely wasn’t Rieze Maxia, and this couldn’t even remotely be Muzet’s doing, so it left the question of just who could be behind him ending up here?

Mutely he took a brief glance at the billboard and then back over to where he’d woken up, catching something dark sitting on the pillow. Oddly shaped but why hadn’t he noticed it before? That’s when an idea hit him. Maybe… this could help and he could try and see if anyone else really had ended up here besides him.

Sissel | Ghost Trick

[personal profile] intricat 2014-05-16 09:06 am (UTC)(link)
Name: Moss
Contact Info: Stonegathers @ plurk and AIM
Other Characters Played: Sawako Kuronuma and Riley Abel
Requested apartment: N/A

Character Name: Sissel
Canon: Ghost Trick
Canon Point: Beginning of chapter 15
Background/History: Wiki link!

Personality:

Sissel doesn't have any memories. He's a blank slate, a ghost (literally) wandering without any ties to his past. But that doesn't mean Sissel is without personality, he just doesn't know who he was before being dead. That being said, his death is a major driving point for his character. He's not upset about it so much as he just wants to understand why he died and who he was, and while he would probably jump at the chance to come back to life, he's happy to move on so long as those questions get answered. It's all he really cares about, which means the questions “Who am I” and “Why did I die” have a great impact on his motivations, and answering them is the one goal he puts above everything else.

That's not to say Sissel doesn't care about anything else. He's not someone who will just stand around and let something bad happen to the people around him, not if he can do something about it. Throughout the game, Sissel saves the people who die on his way to finding the truth. He could probably leave them for dead, but it's not who he is. He's not heartless or mean-spirited. He's just a guy trying to find his past.

He can also be really sassy, though, and he frequently cracks jokes and makes light of the situations he finds himself in. Despite being dead, having no memories, and being faced with the disappearing forever once morning comes, Sissel is incredibly laid back and chill about it all. He keeps a level head through most of his journey, and while there are some things that definitely throw him off—like Yomiel sharing his face—he's really good at taking things as they come, and adapting to the situations at hand. Being dead? No big deal. Having ghost powers? Weird, but cool. Being able to time travel? Yep, that's a thing. He reacts so calmly to all the crazy that gets thrown at him throughout the game, it's actually kind of awesome. Yeah, he has his goals, he desperately wants to know who he is. But he's not about to stress himself out worrying over it.

When it comes to things in the real world, Sissel is often lacking some information. This is because in life he was actually a cat (surprise!) so some of the specifics of how things are used and what they do are a little unclear to him. He's a fast learner, and easily picks up on how things work, but sometimes he's just clueless. Like when it comes to reading. Having been a cat in life, Sissel never really had reason or means to learn to read, so he's out of luck there. Oh well.

All in all, Sissel is a good guy. He has his goal, he has his drive, but he's relaxed and easy going at the same time. He's determined, but not so much that it gets in the way of helping the people around him. Really, he's coolest dead cat guy you will ever meet.

Abilities/Powers:

Because he died close to a fragment of the Temsik meteor, Sissel acquired a few unique abilities, called the powers of the dead.

Sissel can possess things, with some limitations. For one, he can't just float around willy nilly. He has to hop from one item to another in order to move around, and he has a limited reach. So if he's trying to get from a toolbox to a phone, but the phone is all the way down the street? Well, then he' won't be able to reach the phone unless he travels through some other items first.

He can also trick the items he possesses. This also has limitations. Not every item can be moved, and the ones that can can only move in ways they would normally be able to. This means he can open a toolbox, but he wouldn't be able to send the tools flying around. He can also use this to travel through phone-lines to places he knows the number of.

Sissel can travel through time, but only to four minutes before a person's death. He can then attempt to save them using items in the area. He can retry as many times as he wants, but he can't travel further back in time, and can only do so much.

Lastly, Sissel can talk to people who have died, by possessing their body. If their spirit is awake, he can also talk to them once he's saved them, by possessing them again.

ALSO: As a note. Sissel is from a canon point where he still believes he's human, and his spirit takes this form. So when he comes into the game, I would prefer if he didn't come in as a cat, but as who he believes he is. This will make him easier to play—because playing a cat that can't communicate would be nigh impossible—and it will also prevent spoilers for those who have yet to play ghost trick, as Sissel's identity is a really big plot twist.

Items/Weapons: Sunglasses, Cabanela's red scarf, and a desk lamp

Sample Entry: Link to a musebox test-drive!
Sample Entry Two:

Being alive again is strange. Mostly because he can't remember what being alive was like. It's definitely a nice change of pace, though. He's able to move freely, walk the streets without the hassle of problem solving a path from point A to B. It's nice to touch things, too, and to breathe. What's not so great is the place he's in, though. Haven. It' definitely doesn't look like one, being the gritty town it is, danger lurking at it's corners. It's also as far from getting answers as it could be. How is he supposed to remember who he is, if he's stuck here? How is he supposed to find the truth? He's definitely glad to be living, but not having his memory is still frustrating.

He looks up at the billboard, up at two smiling faces holding strange masks. There are words he can't read there, too, but he doubts they're important. He hope they aren't, anyway. He adjusts his sunglasses and shoves his hands into his pockets, continuing on down the street. He's not sure where he's going, but he's not about to sit inside while there might be answers out there, somewhere. Maybe they wouldn't be for his own questions, but for others. And he's okay with that. Because if he can help the people here, maybe they could help him, too.

At least, that's what he hopes will be the case. It's not like he has many other options.

Kevin | Welcome to Night Vale

[personal profile] killyourdouble 2014-05-16 12:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Name: Alex
Contact Info: Plurk: sextonviolets, AIM: cryptodick
Other Characters Played: None.
Requested apartment: Him being in 19.2 would be hysterical to me, since the first episode he appears in is 19B. Other than that, no.
Character Name: Kevin (no confirmed canonical last name)
Canon: Welcome to Night Vale
Canon Point: Just after “The Debate”. Where “The Debate” fits into canon is a little twitchier. I’m going to say just after episode 38, Orange Grove.
Background/History: http://nightvale.wikia.com/wiki/Night_Vale This is probably the best one, but I had trouble finding any single source that actually explains much about the canon all in one convenient location. The overall canon is pretty much The News From Lake Wobegone meets the X-Files. Within this, Kevin is from Desert Bluffs (http://nightvale.wikia.com/wiki/Desert_Bluffs) and that’s an EXCELLENT description of Desert Bluffs.
Personality: First off, there is a LOT we don’t know about Kevin. We don’t know yet what his actual motivations are or whether he’s genuinely on the side of StrexCorp (explained more below) or if he has his own agenda, if he’s a brainwashed puppet or if he’s a mastermind. My intention is to play him in such a way that it’s not always terribly clear whether his attitude as described below is out of him being genuinely naïve about his monstrousness, or if he’s fully aware and playing dumb. I think there are good arguments to be made either way, given what we’ve seen of him in canon up to this point and I enjoy the ambiguity of his attitude in the show itself. We also know almost nothing about his past or what’s happened to him or any of his family prior to him turning into the thing he is, below. I imagine there’s a chance the next few weeks of the show will reveal that and I’ll just have to revise everything I think I know about him but, given the way information is presented in WTNV, we also might never know—it’s clear from some of his lines in The Debate that at least one intensely traumatic event has happened to him (rather than by him or involving him) but it’s unclear if that event is what set him up to be like he is, or if something about the way he is helped him survive the event. It’s also not clear what the event even is, just that a lot of people in Desert Bluffs died from it. That said…

Kevin is the Voice of Desert Bluffs and exemplifies all of the terrifying and horrible qualities of it, including its quiet insistence that nothing about it is horrifying or terrible at all. Desert Bluffs is owned by a corporation called StrexCorp Synernists Inc and Kevin is one of their main spokespeople as well as the local radio host. StrexCorp values hard work as not just the key to happiness but also the key to not ending up as a horrible pool of blood and teeth and hair decorating a local home or radio studio. Kevin is relentlessly cheerful, excited about literally everything, and will probably rip your throat out with his too-sharp, too-many teeth. Not because he means you any harm in particular, mind you, but because the room he’s in needs decorating, or because it’s StrexCorp’s “Rip Someone’s Throat Out With Your Teeth” day. He’s completely and utterly unaware that there’s anything particularly creepy or deadly about himself or that there’s anything strange about killing a bunch of people and turning them into say, shelving units.

He’s shown to have a vaguely childlike disposition, hyping the wonders of pony-petting stations around town in Desert Bluffs and showing genuine delight at getting to meet his double, Cecil Palmer, as well as delight at getting to be in Night Vale. It’s a little hard to tell if there’s a line between his genuine happiness and StrexCorp mandated happiness, and where that line is if he has one—he seems to be happy about everything, at all times, in a giddy, wondrous way. However, despite the almost sweet excitement of him and the general unawareness of how horrific he is, he does have a saccharinely sarcastic side as well, in a very “well, bless their little hearts” kind of way. For instance, after repeating back a very unhelpful report at one point, he says a “thank you for that informative report” in a way that makes it very clear that he doesn’t think the report was very informative at all, but still has a tone comprised mostly of sweetness and light while he does it.

He doesn’t seem to get offended when he puts people off due to his combination of being relentlessly cheery and covered in blood, but this may just be because he’s not aware of it. It’s not clear whether he doesn’t read social cues well, or if he just doesn’t care about them, but all of his verbal interactions with other characters definitely leave the feeling that the other characters are uncomfortable around him, even characters that are rarely uncomfortable around anyone, and he never comments on, or is slowed down by, their discomfort.

Although there’s not been any indication in the show that he either finds anyone attractive or possesses any form of sexuality at all, there’s also something about his word choice and inflection on occasion that is uncomfortably sensual. He talks a lot about mouths, about how things feel in the body, rather than the mind, the shapes people’s bodies or mouths make, noise and smell and skin and taste. It’s never anything particularly sexual in nature, just an intensely visceral, sense-rooted narration of the world.

Kevin also seems to have an intensely philosophical streak, asking questions about things like how much sand there is in the world and who would count it all to know. However, it’s unclear if this is really something he thinks about, or if it’s somewhat put on for his listeners. He definitely seems to have a dreamy, disconnected quality on occasion even when he’s not directly broadcasting, but his on-air philosophical questions seem either (mis?)leading or meant to be rhetorical and a little amusing. Either way, he at least likes to pretend to muse through big questions when he knows people are listening.

Abilities/Powers: Officially, none. However, it’s recently been established that he does not have eyes, and yet he can both clearly see as though he does, and seems to be able to see things other people cannot, such as the face of a character who does not have a face. He seems unable to distinguish between the things that he sees that other people don’t and the things he sees that everyone sees.

I would DEARLY love to play around with this in Haven, particularly since he seems completely unaware that he’s seeing anything out of the ordinary when it’s happening.
Items/Weapons: Nothing but the (blood-soaked) clothes on his back.

Background/History:

Born as the child of slaves—who were killed before him when he was three, deemed useless by the country—Zohra has been grained with one, basic instinct: get stronger and survive. To accomplish this, he rises through the military, joining the Hidden Elites by the young age of ten and thriving in the underworld of the Roland Empire—a world that is rife with corruption, rape, murder, betrayal, etc. By this point, Zohra is close to the title of the Greatest Assassin in Roland, currently held by a girl named Biore Mente. However, he ultimately ends up walking away from that title, for a variety of reasons:

A) Sent on a mission to assassinate Pia Varliere and Peria Peruula, two fugitives his age, Zohra is quickly defeated and humiliated. That said, his loss and Pia's words about how the country is simply brainwashing him allow him to open his eyes and rethink what his worth is to the country (i.e. none, despite his efforts).

B) Biore is disposed of by the country, in spite of supposedly being one of the best. With this, Zohra realizes that no matter how strong one is, no matter how useful one is to the country, their only fate is to, in the end, be treated like worthless tools. What he's been striving for all this time is meaningless.

And thus, Zohra changes. From a cold-hearted assassin with no morals, he sets down rules for himself and becomes known as a defiant "problem child." Again, he acts according to basic instincts: to get stronger, to live life how he wants to, and at the end of it all, to reach Pia's level and win her heart. In spite of the torture he goes through and the various attempts on his life, Zohra continues to act as he wants, choosing only missions he agrees with and flipping off the nobles however he pleases.

Sometime past the age of thirteen, Zohra finally betrays Roland and locates Pia and Peria. Years later, despite their status as fugitives, the three form of the Azure Princess Mercenaries, a mercenary group with enough strength to rival a country. The group is led by Pia, with Peria and Zohra as her two elites.

Personality:

Zohra is, in a sense, both very easy and difficult to read, depending on how quickly you jump to conclusions.

First impressions of him tend to be that he's a loud, obnoxious idiot. He talks a lot, he talks loudly, and he really doesn't give a damn as to who's annoyed by it. He's known for his straightforward attitude, rarely sugarcoating his words or bothering with sensitivity. He's not quite the endless chatterbox he was at the age of thirteen and not quite as excitable, but the general traits remain: Zohra is self-centered, temperamental, and reckless (albeit perhaps on a superficial level). He certainly lacks a degree of shame—he can recite that ridiculous, long-winded title he made up for himself as a kid with a perfectly straight face—and can come across as a senseless, bumbling fool at times. Of course, anyone who knows Zohra well enough knows that he's entirely competent, but again, first impressions—just from his attitude alone, Zohra doesn't seem like someone you need to take seriously.

Above all, Zohra likes two things: fighting and impressing Pia (the two are not mutually exclusive). Zohra lives for the thrill of a good fight. Cocky and abrasive, Zohra is the type of person that you can bet will clash with his opponent with a smirk on his face. He laughs in the face of overwhelming odds (though he's not quite as ignorant of them as he might seem) and will only get excited when facing an incredible opponent, rather than afraid. While Zohra is still ultimately very good at surviving and won't mindlessly put himself at risk, it seems as if he threw self-preservation instincts out the window when he decided to change at the age of ten.

Unsurprisingly, Pia is very similar. Zohra is someone who is drawn to others like him and has little patience for those who aren't. Zohra values strength; he despises weakness. In the end, this lends itself to a brutally pragmatic view of the world—that the strong prevail and the weak die. That isn't to say that Zohra would advocate killing the weak—because he wouldn't at all—but rather, he views it as an inevitability. Growing up in a dog-eat-dog world, he knows that you need power to survive. You also need a strong heart, which is why he has no sympathy for the wishy-washy types who fall into despair. He acknowledges that they have their reasons, yes, but at the end of the day, they're only that: reasons. Excuses. Thus, Zohra himself is not one to brood, instead moving forward in life with his head held high. He doesn't cry or feel sorry for himself or for others. Those sentiments simply have no value.

Along those lines, Zohra is not the carefree, idealistic fool that he might seem at first. As mentioned above, he's deeply cynical, but more than that, Zohra is a fighter, in every sense of the word. He might talk about playing fair, but really, Zohra fights dirty. He's not afraid to deceive his opponent in whatever way, whether that be by psyching them out, using traps, or even taking advantage of his own mannerisms to trick the enemy into underestimating him. While Zohra isn't nearly as cutthroat as he once was, it's best not to take him at face value when he says that he likes to fight fair and square. He probably does—because, at heart, Zohra is a simple person who likes to brawl—but he's also not nearly idiotic enough to actually do it.

Similarly, in spite of his general temper, Zohra's a great person to have in a crisis. Again, he's someone who won't break down, won't snap from the stress—he'll stay rational and focused the entire time. In fact, he'll probably act completely like his usual self: frank, irritable, and egotistical. At the same time that Zohra's one heck of a moody person, he's also rather stable in that way.

That said, it's also for this reason that, aside from some maturing, Zohra hasn't changed much from his thirteen-year-old self. Though his bleak outlook on the world is more obvious now, no longer hidden underneath the shiny excitement of recent change in ideals, Zohra still holds himself up to (relatively) high moral standards. It's debatable how many of his self-decreed 'rules' he actually follows and how many of them are there to sound nice, but in the long run, the heart of the matter is true: Zohra isn't one to harm innocents, will minimize the number of casualties if he can, looks out for his allies (as much as he might fight with Peria), and has no love for those who mindlessly hurt others.
outrival: (✗ i totally meant to do that)

[personal profile] outrival 2014-05-16 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Abilities/Powers:

Physically-speaking, Zohra is an expert at combat, both in hand-to-hand and with weaponry. He’s fast on his feet, agile, strong, can take a hit and fight even when exhausted, etc. His weapon of choice, being an assassin, tends to be (potentially poisoned) daggers, whether for close combat or for throwing. Additionally, he can move soundlessly and conceal his presence.

On a non-combat-related note, he's good at other assassin-y things, like picking locks. He can also be quite the actor, to the point where he manages to cough up fake blood with, as far as we know, little preparation.

In terms of magic, Zohra is a very capable mage, worthy of being compared to a magic genius/the Greatest Magician in Roland. As such, his abilities ranges from being able to cast advanced spells to creating magic traps and structures and the like. His skill level is to the point where, over the course of years, he's been able to create original spells.

Various spells that he can use are listed here.

Items/Weapons: Two knives, one of which is coated in poison, and the Severed Remains of Menos, aka a doll-like object that, upon being activated, will create a widespread fire that will burn through everything, including the user.

Sample Entry: Previous in-game thread!
Sample Entry Two:

Reusing his previous sample, with some alterations for his new canon point.

It was going to be another day of training, Zohra decided. Or rather, "another day" wasn't quite the best way to put it, considering there were fewer days where he didn't train than when he did. While a part of him realized that it might be fruitless, if he were to return home with all of his practice undone, it didn't sit well with him to simply stop because of that.

"Besides," he muttered, "Pia would be mad."

(Of course, this was assuming he survived his encounter with Lucile, of which there was no guarantee.)

At the very least, any training done here might come in handy for, well, here. While Zohra didn't feel any more threatened than he did back home, it was clear that he couldn't afford to let down his guard. That said, that was also perhaps the wrong way to put it, since it wasn't that he was avoiding danger. Rather, he intended to straight head to it. After all, there was no better training than going up opponents—in this case, the monsters in the subway.

Standing in his apartment room, he clasped on his armour, before checking that all his knives were in place and that all his equipment was fully prepared. Despite it being rather routinely for him, he didn't skimp on anything. An easy way to die was to be unprepared, and he had no intention of letting that be his downfall.

"Talk about a lame way to die..."

He would die of humiliation if Pia ever learned about it, never mind that Pia wasn't even in Haven (he'd know). For that matter, it'd probably be even worse if Peria learned. The bastard would never let him live it down.

Checking over everything a second time, he stretched his back and decided that he was ready. To the empty room—

"All right, I'm off!"

Placing one foot on the window frame, he jumped out.
