APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN!
The next processing date is Friday 11th October

IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE

We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every two weeks, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. If you wish to request a specific apartment, please do so in the relevant part of the application. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Every attempt will be made to place a character in their chosen apartments, though this may not always be possible depending on the slots available.

Applications are open constantly, but are only processed every other Friday at 7PM EST. The Saturday following acceptance, an IC mingle log will be posted for characters to be introduced to the game.

We now have a test drive community at [community profile] haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old.

Sample Entry:
Why is it that people are the most careless when in immediate danger? I will never be able to understand this. Darkspawn taint is no laughing matter, unless your name is Anders. In that case it would be prudent to keep your mouth shut lest the inherent stupidity be sensed by any ogre who happens by.

If it is not, then heed my warning because it will only be given once. The blood of these creatures is foul. It carries a taint that will turn you into the living dead, and drive you star raving mad. They subsist upon the flesh of humans. These creatures called "zombies" I have heard spoken of are very similar. In short? Stay away and let a warden handle them.

[ phew! what a mouthful. he pulls a long suffering look. ]

Anders, that cat has pissed all over my armor. You will clean this at once.

Sample Entry Two: Eight years ago, he'd been a right bastard. Had anyone told him that he'd come back from his fostering in the Free Marches to find his name and land in the muck at the feet of the Grey Wardens and that he would then turn around and join the Order and give dignity back to his family name? He would have laughed in their faces. Granted, he had not been a wastrel nursing a mug of ale or chasing skirts. He was the heir and could not afford to do as Thomas had.

But it'd just be unthinkable that a) his father would turn out to be anything but the shining paragon of greatness he'd built him up to be and b) that he could eclipse the man completely. Yet, he had. Men who spat on his father's memory now looked to him with respect around Amaranthine. The King might not be in any hurry to see another Howe at court, but he was no longer prepared to spend his days there. Unlikely as it had seemed at first, being a warden suited him far better than the tedium of ruling an arling and managing the lesser nobility in it.

He hummed beneath his breath as he ran the damp rag over the smooth wood of his bow. Darkspawn blood was a stain that never came out and he'd be damned if it would ever stay long on his grandfather's bow. Life now while not peaceful, was productive. And simple! He enjoyed that. Straightforward and to the point. He knew where he stood, and what was expected of him each day.

But he didn't want to get too predictable, either. These new recruits told rumors of him scowling even in his sleep. Perhaps if the wardens were ever to give him a vacation, he might brave Antiva. And do a little wenching while he was-- oh, right. Cousland had said that the courtesans there were no doubt part of the Crows. On second thought he might just make an uneventful sojourn to the Pearl instead! Cousland was the one with the patience to deal with those blighters, not him.

Addendum:

[personal profile] howeclever 2012-12-29 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
So I forgot to specify the warden's choices over the course of Awakening!

The rundown is this:

✔ A Cousland PC (flexible on gender) released him and conscripted him into the wardens.
✔ All his gifts were given to him and his approval was maxed.
✔ Cousland reunited him with his sister Delilah.
✔ He was a staple in the main party and experienced all events of the game.
✔ He was taken to Amaranthine with the Warden who chose to save the city.
✘ His Warden then sided against the Architect and killed him.
✔ And finally he helped Cousland defeat the Mother.

✔ Because of that his epilogue was a happy one! He actually survived and went on to save Teyrn Cousland from an unspecified threat or accident and was rewarded with some land which Nate then passed to his nephew. And a statue of him was built in front of the castle.

Character Name: Future Gohan Son
Canon: Dragon Ball Z
Canon Point: After his death.
Background/History: Dragon Ball Z: The History of Trunks | Future Gohan

Personality: Gohan is a warrior; a child that was pushed into his father's world of fighting at a young age, and left alone to mature and grow into the world's defender. As such, he takes his role very seriously, and is both determined to stop any threats to his home, and fierce in his battle tactics. This is shown when he faces the androids on numerous occasions, his battle tactics always consisting of putting on the pressure just so that innocents civilians can get away. He's constantly putting himself in the front lines, willing to take any abuse from the androids so long as other people are safe. And this ties in to two very strong aspects of his personality.

For starters, Gohan is an idealistic person. He believes strongly in right and wrong, and he's confident in his ability to distinguish between the two. As such, he truly believes himself to be the hero of his world; the person that people can look up to in times when hope is lost. And he believes this because he wants to carry on the spirit of his dad; the person Gohan idolizes the most. He will fight to defend his home, but he will not kill someone. Like his father. He will attack with ferocity, but he will always give second chances. Like his father. He will never give up, even when things look hopeless. Like his father. And like his father, he'll make sure that his spirit carries on in someone. That should he fail to protect the world, someone else could; which brings us to the core of Gohan's personality. His compassion.

Gohan is, and forever will be, a gentle person. He may fight with the strength and determination of his Saiyan ancestry, but the fact of the matter is, Gohan was born and raised human; and most of all, Gohan loves life. He loves the sounds of nature outside the window, of his mother arguing with his father in some meaningless squabble, of a fire crackling in the fireplace as they all gather around it. He loves the smell of a flower in the spring, of a large meal his mom is cooking, of a boiling oil drum as his father takes a bath. He loves the feel of a warm blanket as he sleeps, of a warm dinner with the whole family. And it's the small things like that that he cherishes above all else; those moments where he can truly be a human being and not just some warrior or hero... those moments that he will never get back because of the androids.

This is what he fights to protect; life. The life that all people should live; that the androids are preventing people from living.

And this leads to one of Gohan's strongest character flaws; his sheer anger. Ever since he was a child, he was shown to have a temper, and this temper has manifested itself in the way of a tantrum and a hidden power. This can be attributed to his Saiyan heritage possibly, but nonetheless, it is both a strength, and a weakness. The angrier Gohan gets, the more powerful he becomes. However, the angrier he gets, the more unreasonable and blinded he becomes. He may become downright brutal, unleashing a torrent of power unlike anything anyone has ever seen before. But he will forget to conserve his energy, will forget the nuances of tactics. He will just be an unstoppable force, without any finesse.

That is why Gohan is the person he is though. Because as human as he may be, and despite how much he would rather be sitting down and reading a good book while listening to his family and friends in the background keeping things lively... the world needs a hero. And Gohan needs to force himself to be that hero. The androids are killing people, making them suffer. And Gohan is simply not the type to let this pass. His ideals, compassion, and anger simply do not allow for it.

Abilities/Powers: Martial Arts – Gohan's been trained in the martial arts by Piccolo at the age of four, mostly through survival training, trial by fire exercises, and sparring matches. His training continued with his father for the next few years after that, and eventually he learned to train alone. But the discipline and experience gained from all that training, as well as his hybrid physiology, has made him into a very formidable martial artist.

Life Energy – Also known as ki. Thanks to his training, Gohan can freely manipulate his own ki and put it to use in a number of different ways, such as to fly, manifest it into energy blasts, generate barriers, and naturally enhance his physical attributes by "powering up". This is only a basic generalization however, as this is barely the tip of the iceberg. His main energy techniques are the Kamehameha (a blue energy blast), the Masenko (a yellow energy blast), and the Makankosappo (an orange energy blast which functions like a drill).

Saiyan Physiology – As the first Human-Saiyan hybrid, Gohan's physiology allows for him to posses beyond superhuman strength, speed, reflexes, and stamina. This is mostly in part due to the fact that saiyans were bred and trained for war and battle, so their physiology has adapted over the years to reflect that, down to the genetic level. Not only that, but it also makes him much more adept at the art of freely manipulating his ki, since saiyans have a naturally higher ki reserve than most species.

Super Saiyan – As one of the few super saiyans in existence, Gohan has access to incredible levels of power, capable of enhancing his physical attributes and natural abilities to unspoken levels. When in use, his hair turns blonde and spiky, and his eyes turn jade. In addition, he is bathed in a golden flame, his power practically exuding from him. However, in this form, he is much more susceptible to anger and other negative emotions.

Items/Weapons:
- The uniform he made to resemble his father's uniform, although it will be in extremely bad shape due to his most recent fight with the androids.
- A small brown bag tied to his belt with a piece of twine, where Gohan housed his remaining senzu beans before he used them all up.
- The power pole, a magical pole that can stretch and shrink to any length. Used to belong to his father, but is now in his possession even though he doesn't use it.

Sample Entry: Future Gohan intro post over at [community profile] a_facility

Sample Entry Two: He hadn't been expecting to open his eyes again.

And it showed, the moment his eyes cracked open and the sight of a actual ceiling greeted him. It was all over his face, really. The shock and confusion, for starters. Then the disbelief, as he narrowed his eyes and tried to piece together what had happened to him. The moment it hit him though, he couldn't help but sit right up from the intensity of it all, his breath coming to him in short pants as the images flashed through his mind.

A rain of light... no, of energy. Coming down on him. It was burning... searing... the most intense pain he'd ever felt in his life. It felt like he was being torn apart, burning up from the inside out. But how? What had he been doing? The last thing he remembered, he was...

Androids.

His eyes widened.

"I was... fighting the androids," He started talking to himself, his breath having calmed down somewhat... but his wild look still not quite gone yet. No, if anything, it was growing worse, his teeth grit as he grabbed the top of his head with his right hand, like he were in intense pain. "I knocked Trunks out, and... I didn't want him to get hurt. I wasn't going to survive, that's... I knew I wasn't strong enough. But Trunks would've been, so long as he... lived..." His grip tightened, and he began to hyperventilate. "I took them on myself. With.. one arm." Idly, he noted, his left arm was actually missing. But any surprise that he might've experienced from that fact was washed way by the images that continued to flash through his mind. The images that he couldn't stop sorting out, like he was possessed by them. "There was no way I could've won..." He continued. "I went in there-- I told them, that what I represent couldn't be destroyed... because I knew I..."

And then his eyes widened. The wild look to them gone as his right arm grew limp and fell to his side.

"I... didn't win."

He looked as his right hand then. And then at the space where his left hand should've been. Then finally, the question tore itself from his throat. Although whoever it was aimed at, Gohan didn't know.

"... Why aren't I... dead?"

Character Name: Arcade Gannon
Canon: Fallout: New Vegas
Canon Point: Immediately post-game, see ending 11 on the wiki.
Background/History: wiki
Personality: If you believe what Arcade Gannon tells you about himself, he's boring. Really boring. Roughly as interesting as watching grass grow in a barren waste, actually. He informs you of this fact during your first conversation, then elaborates by describing a childhood filled with intrigue, lies, and narrow escapes, and finally finishes the lengthy dialogue by letting you know that he doesn't talk about himself and that he deflects all personal questions. If you believe what Arcade Gannon tells you about himself, he's committed himself to solitary research because he's not a people person. He'll explain this while standing in the closest thing New Vegas has to a hospital, wearing a blood-smudged lab coat because he trained to be a doctor. Finally, after informing you that he doesn't get along with others, he'll agree to accompany you as long as you "keep working to help people around here get a fair shake," then suggest that the two of you hurry up--there are people to help and things to learn (though, he does add, maybe not in that order).

It wouldn't be fair to call him a liar, but if you believe what Arcade Gannon tells you about himself, you're only getting part of the story.

New Vegas and the surrounding desert are unforgiving grounds for an idealist, which is why Arcade will tell you that he's not one. Don't be fooled. His dry wit and self-deprecating sense of humor mask the spirit of someone who deeply and earnestly wants to improve the lives of those around him.

Fallout: New Vegas is about a city caught in a struggle between two major forces: the NCR (generally considered the good guys, although Arcade believes they wield too much power) and Caesar's Legion (unquestionably the bad guys: Caesar leads an army of captured slaves who can only hope to achieve any degree of autonomy by climbing the hierarchy through success in battle), as well as the current ruler, a person known as Mr. House who hasn't been seen for two hundred years. Though Arcade believes that New Vegas should be independent, he is most adamantly opposed to Caesar's Legion, and the one rule he sets down before joining your party is that you not provide any help to the Legion.

Arcade is extremely intelligent, and lists his hobbies as medicine and reading books about failed pre-war socioeconomic policies. He taught himself Latin from books, sheet music, and gladiator movies, and he tends to pepper dialogue with Latin phrases--particularly quotes from Cato, which are a subtle nod to his adversarial relationship with Caesar. His manner of speaking is quick and generally casual--despite envisioning himself as a loner, he seems at ease when speaking with others.

Born to a family in the Enclave (a militant political group in earlier Fallout games that was fractured at the end of Fallout 3), Arcade spent most of his early years with a group of Enclave Remnants who were being hunted across the country by other factions, integrating themselves into other communities and disguising themselves to evade capture. His father died when he was very young ("I never got over it," he says in a casual, dismissive tone) and he was raised by the Remnant group and his mother, whom he was very close to. Arcade eventually joined the Followers of the Apocalypse, which seems more like an alliance of convenience than a true loyalty. Because the Followers of the Apocalypse aren't vying for control of New Vegas and do what they can to help individuals in need, their philosophies don't conflict with his own. In addition, their leader lets him pursue his research unhindered. However, even after his mother's death, Arcade stayed in contact with the Remnants. He spent his formative years with them and considers them family, although he's decided to pursue a different path. The Remnants are forced to stay hidden for their own protection, but Arcade wants to actively work to make the world a better place.

Because his early life was filled with deceit, loss, and the constant danger of capture and execution, Arcade is afraid to get close to others--hence his insistence that he's boring and not worth the effort of getting to know. However, the fact that he shares personal details so readily suggests that he's not naturally a secretive person, and he faces a constant internal struggle between the desire to connect with others and the intellectual knowledge and conditioning that tells him to keep them at a safe distance. When discussing previous romances, Arcade says that "lovers make poor confidantes," underscoring his difficulty forging relationships based on deep trust. However, the fact that he's tried multiple times serves as evidence that personal connections are more important to him than he claims.

Life is hard for everyone in the Mojave but Arcade possesses an unusual amount of combat ability for a doctor, showing talent with both firearms and melee weapons. The fact that he learned both styles when one would have been sufficient shows a certain meticulousness of character: when Arcade decides that he wants to know something, he's not satisfied to simply pick up the basics. We also see this in his Latin: he doesn't just toss around memorized quotes, but has taken the effort to become entirely fluent in a language that's useless in his daily life. It's not a matter of pride, but a streak of perfectionism. He mentions that his investigation of natural remedies seems to have reached a dead end, but he continues to pursue his research even after deeming it hopeless. When it comes to matters of intelligence and skill, something in him can't accept the idea of giving up before achieving his goal.

Another important aspect of Arcade's personality is his adaptability. He spent his first years in a military base north of San Francisco, but after that, the Remnants moved from community to community in an effort to escape detection. Even as a child Arcade would have needed to maintain the facade, so it's reasonable to assume that he can quickly adjust to unfamiliar surroundings. Unfortunately, this talent has a downside: because he moved so often and led so many different lives during his youth, Arcade has trouble accepting permanence, and during the game he struggled with not knowing where he belonged. As mentioned above, his work with the Followers of the Apocalypse was more a matter of mutual interests than faction loyalty, and it seemed to feel interstitial. When he reunited with the remaining members of the Remnant group, though, it was clear that their lifestyle was incompatible with his own. This conflict was partially resolved when he made the decision to remain with the Followers rather than accompany the Remnants to the Battle of Hoover Dam, but part of Arcade will always feel like an outsider.

Abilities/Powers: According to game stats, Arcade is highly intelligent (10/10) and moderately charismatic (6/10, making him the most charismatic companion). He's been trained as a medical doctor by the Followers of the Apocalypse, though he likes to keep himself at an emotionally safe distance and focus on research instead, particularly concerning the ways that local plants and wildlife can supplement the community's dwindling medical supplies. Although he prefers to use an energy pistol, he's also skilled with melee weapons. He understands the subtleties of complex politics, and considering the way he taught himself Latin, it's probably fair to say that he's a fast learner. His childhood with the Enclave Remnants means that he has a bit of knowledge when it comes to technology (they were one of the most advanced factions in Fallout), but it's nothing spectacular. His ability to understand and adapt to changing environments is what really gives him an advantage in his world.

Items/Weapons: One Plasma Defender (an energy-based pistol), a Ripper (essentially a butcher knife with a chainsaw-esque blade), and one stimpack (a first-aid injection syringe).

Sample Entry One:

[The face on the viewscreen is unfamiliar, yet somehow, Arcade already looks bored with his surroundings. Broken-down everything, cracked cement, evidence of a civilization long-lost and long-replaced. If he hadn't spent the last few hours focused on his phone, he'd probably find the whole thing funny: close your eyes in one reappropriated post-apocalyptic city, wake up in another. Nihil novi sub sole indeed. However, it seems that the other refugees or prisoners have run out of questions, and the radio silence has lasted long enough that Arcade senses no further information will be forthcoming. Might as well get this over with.]

Right, I get it, we're all stuck in some invisible fortress and everyone has their own idea or story about how we ended up here. There's decent scavenging, a clean well, all the makings of a fine civilization. Great. I only have one question.

[The sarcasm's dry but not acerbic; Arcade is just reciting the few solid details he's learned so far, and really, when it comes to civilization, he's seen far worse. Where there's civilization there are politics, though, and knowing nothing about the area's balance of power makes Arcade more uneasy than finding himself in a high-tech prison to begin with. Unfortunately, he can't ask for information: abstractions are one thing, but in practice, those sorts of details can only be learned through observation. Instead, the cellphone turns to focus on the sidewalk, where a scraggly straw-colored weed pushes its way through a deep crack. It's not like the weeds of the Mojave, the weeds that his research had dismissed as useless. No, this is something new. Something that might have medical potential, though he can't tell if it's alive or dead.]

What do you know about the plants?

Sample Entry Two:

It had been a productive trip. Uneventful, aside from a vague uneasiness, but Arcade had chalked that up to the fact that he'd never been in a real, well-stocked library before. In the Mojave, paper made better tinder than reading material, and most libraries had been looted long before his birth. It only makes sense that a place full of books would feel haunted.

Regardless, his bag is now full of reading material--enough to last at least a week, maybe two. He'd started out picky, leafing through volumes before tucking them into his bag, but as the paranoia intensified he'd changed his strategy to choosing based on titles, and finally, in the moments before he left, he made selections based on nothing but the color of the spine. Back in his room he lowers the bag onto his bunk and sits down to inspect the spoils. The first book he pulls out, a red one, must have been one of the last he'd chosen, because its cover bears no imprint. Arcade shrugs. If it turns out to be useless, there are plenty more where it came from. Opening it reveals blank pages: it's some kind of journal, then. Possibly valuable, if he can find a pen. The next book proves to be the same, but it's not until Arcade empties the bag onto his bed that unease turns to alarm. No titles. No text. Nothing.

But he'd...

Quickly, Arcade dumps the pile of books back into the bag, which he zips firmly and shoves under his bed with enough force to hear a dull thump when it meets the wall. Absens haeres non erit.

He's not the type to go crazy. There has to be some other explanation.

Character Name: Luke Triton
Canon: Professor Layton
Canon Point: Chapter 6 of Unwound Future
Background/History:

Professor Layton and the Curious Village
Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box
Professor Layton and the Unwound Future

Previous Game History:

Luke spent nearly two years living in Mayfield, a seemingly quiet American 1950s town. The town had kidnapped him and tried to force him to believe that he had lived there all his life under a family of people he'd never met before. The town like to experiment on its residents, forcing them to kill one another, performing surgeries, altering memories, and other things. Luke had quickly worn down in the two years he lived there, and discovered after the town was falling to pieces that he was never the original Luke Triton. That he was only a digital copy in a computer simulation. This knowledge and his time in Mayfield had changed him in a lot of ways.

Luke is a lot more paranoid then his canon self. In canon, he's afraid of things like ghosts and monsters, but Mayfield has given him a reason to fear other things - violent people, hospitals, he even fears the people he cares about, because he's afraid they will either turn on him or abandoned him. Or worse, that they'll die and he won't be able to save them.

Luke is a little more violent and willing to get his hands dirty as opposed to his canon self. Mayfield taught him that in order to survive, he needed to learn how to fight in order to protect his own life or someone else's life. For a while, death and violence were a normal part of his life and because of this he has a lot of psychological scars as a result of some of the terrible things he's had to go through.

One of the big changes though, is how Luke went from cheerful and optimist to bitter and cynical. His optimistic attitude was worn down over time, and now it's harder for him to find hope in bad situations. He's also a lot more sad and distant from other people. And with the knowledge that he's only a copy, it's both a relief that he now doesn't have to feel guilty for some of the things he's gone through, but also deeply traumatic as now he's not sure what's real and what isn't.

Personality:

Luke is generally very kind and sweet to other people, as he sees it as part of becoming a gentleman. From time to time, he has the tendency of being cheeky, especially towards a person he sees as rude. He usually speaks his mind freely, which sometimes gets him scolded by Layton. He also has a tendency of acting before thinking, especially if he‘s suspicious of someone, such as when he tried to attack Inspector Chelmey thinking that he was the evil Don Paolo in disguise. Despite his brashness, he always tries to help someone if they need it.

Luke idolizes Professor Layton, to the point that it was he who made himself Layton’s apprentice, not the Professor. He tries hard to follow in the footsteps of his mentor, sometimes even mimicking his actions (pointing like Layton does when Layton isn‘t around). Also, he takes his role as an apprentice very seriously, even becoming defensive if someone questions his apprenticeship. Luke tends to be very curious about the world around him. The boy is very inquisitive and is always asking questions. Much like his mentor, he also shares Layton’s love for puzzles, but not to the extreme that Layton does.

Like most kids his age, Luke tends to have an overactive imagination. He gets scared by things like ghosts and vampires, and depending on the environment he‘s in, he‘ll be more jumpy and easily startled. He’s also a little naïve, especially about adult matters. Unlike the Professor, he lets his emotions show more often. He’ll lose his temper or become easily shocked by something. Or if something angers him, he'll let it show, even calling someone out on their actions if he doesn't approve of them. Sometimes, he’ll even give in to certain child-like temptations, like jumping on cushions of trains.

He loves animals, and has the ability to communicate with them. If he sees an animal, he’ll usually stop whatever he’s doing to greet it. Whether or not the animal reacts kindly to him is a different matter, because sometimes the animal will lash out at him no matter how nice he is to it. Nonetheless, he’ll always try to reach out to an animal that needs help.

Since Unwound Future, Luke has matured a little. He's become more confidant, going as far as calling himself a "whiz" at puzzles. Not only that, but he's more outspoken and will jump in conversations more often. Luke also is more independent, trying to take charge of a situation rather than letting the Professor decide for him, and will even argue back with the Professor if he doesn't agree with something. But what's probably the most noticeable is that Luke is more blunt than he was before, even to the point where he comes off as downright rude and the Professor ends up having to scold him for it. But on a positive note, the boy has learned to become a little more bold and even braver then he was in previous games.

Abilities/Powers: He has the ability to talk to animals.
Items/Weapons: His clothing, his violin, and tea set.
Sample Entry: Here!
Sample Entry Two:

When Luke woke up in a bed that wasn't his own, only to be met with silence, he thought of two things: One, this was another one of Mayfield's tricks or two, he was in some sort of dream. The past few days of his life had been nothing but pure chaos, from fighting for his life in a dark void filled with killer glitches to being told by Mayfield's creator that they were nothing more then copies created in a computer simulation. So when Luke woke up in a very bland-looking room, he wondered if this just another part of Mayfield. He couldn't leave after all, right?

A glance out the window managed to get a shocked gasp out of him. It looked like a bomb had been dropped on the area. That's it, he thought, this had to be a simulation of some kind. He's dealt with this kind of thing before, although the last thing he remembered was Mayfield falling apart, so maybe this was the new Mayfield. The idea admittedly did scare him, but he wasn't going to find out just staring at the window. So he bolts out of the room where he can get a better look, and what he finds by looking up at the old billboard causes him to do a double take.

"...Haven? Where on earth is Haven?"

No Westport, no Soviet Mayfield, he didn't remember any towns linked to Mayfield that went by the name of Haven. So if he woke up in a strange new town, then...

How on earth did he get here?

Canon Point: While hiding out with the kids in episode 22.
Background/History: Here

Personality: What can be said about Vash? On the surface he appears to be nothing more than an idiot with a penchant for pretty ladies and an uncanny ability to get himself into trouble, but the 'sixty billion double dollar man' has more than a few facets to his personality.

The first is the face that he shows the world, the one of the harmless and melodramatic idiot. He is just as liable to scream in terror when faced with enemies and sob like a baby if his food is taken away from him. He often makes light of the situations he finds himself in; indeed, he sometimes appears to be oblivious to the fact he's in danger at all. He appears oblivious and naive, falling for outrageous sob stories hook, line and sinker, and always seems willing to give people the benefit of the doubt. His escapes from being injured seem to be dumb luck most of the time, only narrowly avoiding the bullets that would have killed him because he happened to be falling over his own feet at the time. However, these exaggerated smiles are not all that they seem, and Wolfwood is the first to notice that it's just empty behind them.

He is carrying a heavy burden of guilt for horrible incidents in his past, including feeling partially responsible for Knives killing the crew and Rem, as well as what happened in July and Augusta. These two cities were decimated and their populations left homeless and tearing one another apart, because an ability of Vash's (the angel arm) was activated and destroyed everything. Even though he didn't mean to cause destruction either of those times, he still blames himself fully for what happened and even apologises to one of the survivors that he couldn't die to fulfil her revenge - the only reason he cites, is that if he had died in an explosion, other people would have been hurt too and he couldn't allow that.

He deeply cares for everyone around him - friend, enemy and stranger - and would do anything he possibly could to save a life. This is partially because of a promise he made to the memory of a woman he loved - Rem believed that nobody ever had the right to take another life, and that there was always another way. Vash has taken this lesson completely to heart and absolutely will not take a life; as a consequence his body is littered with patchwork scars and wounds, but this is a price he gladly pays. He becomes visibly distressed when people die around him, angry at those who kill and demanding why they would do such a thing, as well as crying genuine tears over even the corpses of strangers. Near the end of the series, Vash is forced into an impossible choice of watching two of his closest companions die, or killing himself. He chose to pull the trigger and end a life for the first time, which left him so devastated that he became almost inconsolable.

In many ways he is a childish coward, running from the things that hurt and frighten him. He is terrified to let people get close to him because destruction and pain follow on his heels, as well as frightened to let them know the truth of his past, so he hides everything behind foolishness and smiles. After the second incident with the angel arm in Augusta, he is so ashamed of himself that he shucks his identity and goes into hiding as 'Eriks', going to ground until Wolfwood shows up and forces him to realise that he can't hide forever. Vash is a deeply compassionate man who wants to save 'the spiders and the butterflies', even if that is an idealistic way to think, and he thinks death by any means is the worst tragedy there is.

Abilities/Powers: As a Plant, Vash ages differently and seems to have frozen in his mid twenties over the last century. He has exceptional abilities with the 'Lost Technology' of his world (namely the plants, who are like his brethren), it was also canonly stated that both he and his twin brother possessed genius intellect surpassing human capability. His reflexes and senses are perfectly attuned and he is easily capable of dodging a spray of bullets, as well as hearing and seeing things too quiet or far away for others to notice.

Having been practising gunplay for the last century, he is also an expert marksman and always hits his target. He is more durable than humans, though he doesn't possess a 'healing ability' per se, he just tends to heal a little faster. Inside his gun, one of a pair that were manufactured by Knives, there is a weapon called the Angel Arm. This connects with his right arm and expands to create light energy, which is then released in a powerful beam capable of decimating entire cities and even putting a hole in the moon. He is also missing his left arm, which has been replaced by a cybernetic replacement with a hidden gun compartment.

Items/Weapons: Both his guns, and his music player. Unless his false arm counts as an item, and then that instead of the music player!

Sample Entry: Here

Sample Entry Two: Having had the basics of this crazy world explained a bit more, and after spending a few hours wondering if he'd finally lost his mind to hallucinations and madness, Vash finally decided the time was ripe to introduce himself to his fellow residents. If what had been said was true, and nobody here knew him, then he had a chance to make a good first impression. So when he spoke into the phone, his voice was suspiciously deep and very deliberately manly, with an attempted hint at suave. Attempted being the optimal word here.

"Good afternoon, assorted men, children and, most importantly, beautiful women. The days have been dark here, the nights long and cold so far, and you have been in dire need of some brave soul to rectify all these wrongs. A man of style. A man of extreme manliness. A man of..."

Oops, he didn't have another descriptor. He fumbled for a second, before giving a manly cough to cover the awkward pause.

"And what do we call this man among men, this seeker of the elusive mayfly of love, I hear you cry? I am Valentinez Alkalinella Xifax Sicidabohertz Gombigobilla Blue Stradivari Talentrent Pierre Andri Charton-Haymoss Ivanovici Baldeus George Doitzel Kaiser III."

Previous Game History:
While Accelerator has certainly been through a lot in his short life, nothing could have ever prepared him for Mayfield. Living without his powers in a low technology world in close proximity to total strangers is pretty close to the exact opposite of what he was used to--being thought of by the general public as the most powerful person on the planet in the technologically advanced Academy City for most of his life and trying his best to isolate himself from other people. Here, he had to make some effort to function like a normal member of the society to avoid brainwashings, and having spent most of his life as a lab rat that was pretty strange for him. Lucky for him, he'd arrived at the beginning of summer and didn't have to worry about going to school for a few months.

Strangely enough though, as much as Accelerator hated being there Mayfield didn't seem anywhere near as bad as it really was to him at first. His main problem with it was that it was keeping him from fulfilling his obligations back in Academy City and from the small girl he'd devoted himself to protecting. Not having any power when you're used to being nearly invincible only served to make his already paranoid personality worse, but at least here he saw less reason to need his powers. At first, anyway, because it took Mayfield a few months to really show him what it was capable of. It was an annoying place, that was clear, but you couldn't die and the strange goings on there(being unable to figure out if he was really a native Mayfielder or not on the Fourth of July, being unable to lie for a week, that kind of thing) seemed like more of a nuisance than anything else in his first few months. All in all, it seemed like a better place to be than Academy City.

Pity he had to share it with Mikoto Misaka.

Accelerator could get away with ignoring most of the people in Mayfield--he had no interest in socializing with anyone, and resisted forming bonds with even the people he was forced to live with pretty well. There were a few children there he'd sort of taken it upon himself to look after, but that was really it at first. Mikoto Misaka, on the other hand, was someone he had an unfortunate history with and while he didn't like her, he felt a certain obligation to keep an eye on her.

Towards the end of the summer Accelerator experienced his first death(poisoned by the town's infamous milk during an event where someone in every house had to drink an entire bottle a day or risk being brainwashed and sent on a murderous rampage), but it still wasn't enough to alter his opinion that Mayfield was better than Academy City. Rather than his death, he was more concerned with the fact that more and more people from Accelerator's world began to show up, including those he had yet to meet(having been taken from volume 19 originally) and those that should have been dead. By the time school started, Mayfield had three of Mikoto's clones--Misaka #9982, Misaka #10032, and Misaka WORST--and the hero who stopped the experiment where they were supposed to die. This changed things for Accelerator--the stakes were higher with those clone girls around, as he felt even more obligated to look after them than the original. With Touma Kamijou being around...Accelerator was shocked to find that even the "perfect hero" he'd put up on a pedestal was powerless against the town they'd been imprisoned in.

All the new arrivals from their city caused a definite change in Accelerator's relationship with Mikoto Misaka. She took a definite defensive shift at first, worried for the sake of her clones, and while seeing he was apparently no longer any threat to them didn't put her at any ease, it left them in the awkward position of both being concerned with looking out for them. As if the awkward forced cooperation that came from looking after the clones wasn't enough, the weekend before school started Mayfield forced the two of them to go on a "date." Apparently the town considered the two of them a couple, and left them locked in a bowling alley with large amounts of food together for several hours. This led to a rather significant conversation between them of them regarding their situation and Mikoto attempting(and failing) to convince him that Mayfield was far worse than their home, but it ended badly and the two ended up sulking in opposite corners for a few hours afterwards.

As school started up again, Accelerator found himself attending a regular school...for the first time in his entire life, really. "Regular" is a term you can only use loosely in Mayfield, but a it was still far closer to normal than he'd ever really experienced in his life. While he managed to spend a lot of the summer hiding away from everyone in his house, he was forced into more regular interaction with other people now that he had to attend class if he didn't want to be brainwashed. Most of the people he'd interacted with off and on over the summer had been permadroned at this point, including his "family," but attending class fairly regularly caused him to start interacting with new people and while he would never admit it, grow closer to some. In particular, school saw him growing closer to a girl by the name of Madoka Kaname.

Accelerator's devotion to protecting the clones was first put to the test in Mayfield by the spread of a zombie virus. Unfortunately, #10032 and #9982 ended up infected, but neither he nor Mikoto wanted either of them to be killed by anyone out slaying zombies, so they split up after agreeing to try to find and contain them. Accelerator got to them before Mikoto, but without his powers attempting to herd them to safety proved to be a difficult task and himself ended up infected. Not wanting to lose control of himself and start attacking people, he ran into Mikoto again and requested she kill him since suicide was unfortunately not an option once you'd been infected. Although she refused, he pretended the virus was further along than it really was and scared her into electrocuting him to death.

Not long after the zombie outbreak, two of the clone girls ended up permadroned. Many in the town said this meant going back but, but while WORST was from Accelerator's future and at least had something to go back to, #9982 was...well, dead. While Mikoto had been avoiding him due to feeling bad about killing him, she tried to convince him that she was better off droned that stuck in Mayfield, which of course...turned into an argument. Accelerator ended up going to the park afterwards, where he ran into Lil' Slugger. Slugger had been messing with Accelerator off and on since he came to Mayfield because he found it funny, but today their encounter was...different. Attracted to Accelerator's less than favorable mental state, Slugger did his duty as a monster and attacked him with his bat(which was "helping" as far as Slugger was concerned). Leaving Accelerator alone in the park in the middle of the night, Misaka #10032 eventually stumbled upon his bleeding and unconscious form and dragged him to her house to clean him up out of pity.

Life went back to going through the motions for awhile after that, but at this point Accelerator had come to realize just what kind of place he was dealing with. He wasn't sure if he would call it worse than Academy City, but it was at the very least just as bad in its own way.

The next major incident Accelerator found himself in involved hallucinogenic mushrooms. Having been tricked into eating some, Accelerator ended up seeing Mayfield as a research facility full of the bodies of dead Misaka clones. Anyone who approached him was perceived as a scientist, leading him to be very hostile to everyone he came in contact with. Upon being approached by his friend Madoka Kaname, Accelerator grabbed a flower(believing it to be a gun) and began to threaten to kill her. All attempts to reason with him failed, and he went on like this until he encountered Touma Kamijou. Unlike all the others, Accelerator not only saw Touma as a scientist, but as one he actually recognized--Kihara Amata, the one that worked with him when was younger and later kidnapped Last Order and attempted to kill him. Struggling desperately to attack him despite his lack of powers or any real weapons lucky enough got him absolutely nowhere. Touma's attempts to reason with him weren't working due to the effects of the mushrooms, so he eventually gave up and knocked Accelerator unconscious.

The next time Accelerator spoke to Madoka, he attempted to apologize to her in his own roundabout way, but also noted that he'd warned her that he wasn't the kind of person she wanted to be around and that side of himself was exactly why. Madoka, however, insisted that she wasn't upset and was actually worried about him. Her still liking him and wanting to be his friend after what happened between them led to her being the person that was most successful at getting close to him during his stay in Mayfield.

On what would normally be Black Friday in America, everyone in Mayfield woke up to find themselves in a nuclear wasteland. It was kind of a weird thing for Accelerator, who could easily survive a nuclear war with his powers and had imagined himself in this type of situation countless times in the past. Accelerator immediately went looking for the Misakas, and was shocked when finally caught up with Mikoto--she was permadroned. Needless to say, the next few days before Mayfield was restored to its former "glory" were pretty miserable.

With December's influx of new people came two of note: housemates that would make quite an impact on Accelerator's life in Mayfield. The first to show up, Teitoku Kakine, was an enemy of his from Academy City and considered by Mayfield to be his "brother." Horribly enough, this resulted in them constantly trying(and sometimes succeeding) to murder each other. The second was a Buddhist nun named Byakuren Hijiri, their new "mother," who really did not approve of all the chaos in her house. She did, however, take a liking to Accelerator and put a lot of effort into trying to help him overcome his guilt issues.

Come Christmas, Accelerator found himself being persuaded to give up his existence for the sake of the town. Everyone else would be better off without him, after all...with him forgotten, Kakine took his place in the memories of that that knew him as the esper involved in the Level Six Shift Experiment. Accelerator found himself stuck as something like a ghost temporarily, but eventually his existence was restored and everything set back to...whatever passed for "normal" in Mayfield.

January didn't get any better for him, as he found the little girl he takes care of--Last Order--showed up in his house one morning, only to get killed by Kakine. Accelerator spent his days trying desperately to protect her from him for s short period of time, but soon they both disappeared. Misaka #10032 and Touma Kamijou both followed within the next few months, and Accelerator found himself the last person from his world in town.

In May, Accelerator found himself returning to Academy City and going through World War III as well as confrontations with a group called Gremlin. Returning to Mayfield he found only a few days had passed and...he soon got another new housemate, a young girl named Satou Kuroneko. Satou went out of her way to try and befriend him, but he brushed her off.

As school ended, Accelerator found it much easier to just hide in his house and ignore most of the people in town--most of the people he talked to were gone by now, anyway. He only really bothered to venture out when Madoka wanted to see him, or when Applejack the pony came to check up on him.

Personality:
The protagonist of To Aru Majutsu no Index, Touma Kamijou, is an indisputably heroic individual. He very firmly believes that there is good in everyone and that anyone can change. When we first meet Accelerator, he seems to be proof that Touma's philosophy is wrong, but as Accelerator becomes the story's secondary protagonist and fights to take his life back, his character instead becomes one that tests Touma's beliefs--and ultimately, the results favor Touma.

"Before all the tragedies happened, Accelerator was just a normal boy who would laugh and cry like any other."

Accelerator was once a fairly normal child, but was very shy and has even stated that as a small boy, he was afraid to look others in the eye. People have been terrified of him for most of his life. Originally, this was because he couldn't control his powers and would usually accidentally hurt anyone who got too close. Anyone that tried to touch him would get their body mangled by his redirection field and at the time he was unable to deactivate it so the only thing he could do to prevent harm coming to others was to keep them away. He tried to distance himself from others to keep them from being hurt because of him and although he's changed significantly over the years, he still often tries to keep other people from getting involved in his life because of a belief that he only causes people who get too close to him pain. He has been known to go to great lengths to keep unrelated people away from him, often giving fake information to people that wished to help him and sending them off to safety so he could face danger alone. He's slowly had to learn to cooperate with other people, but he certainly doesn't like it. Despite his secret desire for a family, Accelerator's always acted like he wanted nothing more than to be left alone, as people have wanted to kill or use him for practically all of his life.

As a child, Accelerator was hunted like a dog by those that wanted to kill or use him. The conflict proved to be quite dangerous to unrelated people, so eventually a young Accelerator surrendered himself to scientists that claimed to have a plan that would solve all of his problems--they would make him so strong that everyone would be too afraid to approach him, and then he'd never have to hurt anyone ever again. The scientists, however, had much more sinister goals and Accelerator eventually grew into someone willing to kill anyone who attacked him, even learning to take great pleasure in toying with them. In his mind, he had to set an example for anyone else who that might want to attack him so he could someday be left alone, and they deserved it for being foolish enough to challenge him. Although he grew to--or at least, pretended to--enjoy violence, he still wanted to create that life where he'd never have to hurt anyone anymore. Accelerator eventually joined an experiment where he was to kill 20,000 clone girls to become stronger after being convinced that because they had no emotions or free will and could be mass-produced, they didn't count as "real people." He went through with the expeiment long enough to kill 10,031 of these clones and constantly tried to mock them and encourage them to run away or stand up to him--after the experiment he reflected on this and realized on some level he knew what he was doing was wrong and he had wanted someone to stop him. Because he was taught to believe they didn't count as real people, he never actually viewed himself as a murderer until Touma Kamijou put an end to the experiment and made him realize how far he'd fallen from the goals of his childhood self in his plan to achieve them.

Accelerator is very cynical, and unless he is given a reason not to be, apathetic and easily bored. He has a short fuse and can be a bit of a complainer, though he only tends to whine about things he doesn't actually care about. He still doesn't trust easily and has trouble expressing more positive emotions. Those that persistently believe in him and his capacity for good tend to endear themselves to him faster than others, but even so he isn't exactly nice to them and tends to exclusively refer to them by insulting nicknames. He tries not to let himself get attached to people and when he does, he may decide that distancing himself from them is the only thing to do if he truly cares for them, because he is dangerous and those that associate with him tend to get hurt. However, after World War III, he's mostly given up on completely staying away from the ones he cares about and just wants to be able to live peacefully with his adoptive family.

Accelerator is generally very rude and most of his sentences are littered with profanity and insults, but whether he actually means them or not varies. He's very condescending and basically acts like a huge dick towards everyone regardless of his opinion on them. He can be a man of few words or very long-winded depending on his mood and has no qualms about giving people lectures when he decides they need them. Of course, his lectures can be...interestingly misguided, because his view of the world is still a little warped.

Although Accelerator is capable of being incredibly violent and ruthless towards his opponents, doing so was originally in an attempt to discourage people from attacking him--therefore keeping people from getting hurt--because of how he was as a child. After all, if everyone saw him as a sadistic psychopath with the ability to kill nearly anyone without breaking a sweat, who would be crazy enough to approach him? He eventually gave up on his childhood idea of a world where he wouldn't have to hurt anyone ever again, but behaviors that started as a result of his childhood dream have still lingered long afterwards. Currently his general policy is to use only the minimal amount of force to take down his opponents. When he does believe that his current opponent has to die, he prefers shooting them if he has a gun or snapping their necks if he doesn't over, say, ripping them apart.

His old battle tactics involved heavy use of psychotic grins and maniacal laughter, but it's implied this was just another attempt to scare people(he played it up on purpose to do just that on one occasional) and he's since grown away from it. After the Hound Dog incident, he's learned that playing with his opponents isn't always the best idea, but while he's started to deal with them with only the force he felt he needed to defeat them, he will still verbally mock them...Not that that's much different from his everyday interactions with people!

Accelerator is confident in his own skills and abilities, but not in his own capacity to become a better person. He desperately wants to be one, but has a hard time believing it could be possible. He initially believed it to be completely and utterly impossible for him, even if the people he cares about could occasionally persuade him to doubt that. After he was lectured by someone he idolizes, however, he has changed his opinions to allow himself to have more hope for his future, even if he still can't shake that way of thinking entirely. As of a recent incident where he helped save a little girl, he seems to be moving closer and closer to believing he has it in himself to be good...but he's still definitely got a long way to go.

"I may not be able to become a good person, but I can at least use my power to bring about a happy ending for somebody else."

Accelerator has had some very strange ideas about morality, believing it to be both black-and-white and predetermined(according to him, hearing the story of the Ugly Duckling confirmed this. After all, if the "duckling" found happiness because it was actually born a swan, that meant he couldn't find it because he was born an awful person). In his mind, he was born evil and no amount of good deed doing could change that--especially not after all of the bad things he's done. He killed over 10,000 people and doesn't make any excuses for himself or his behavior. He used to see himself as a villain, a monster, a murderer, a scumbag--and it's outright stated that he despises himself for it.

"Who are you, hero?"
"...I'm not a hero. I'm a villain that's no better than a piece of shit."

As time went on his standards for himself got higher and higher and his self-loathing grew worse and worse until he had the biggest mental breakdown of his life. Nowadays, Accelerator no longer feels that he is bound by fate to be a "villain," but it's still hard for him to consider that he could ever make enough progress to be considered "good." He does, however, seem to have toned down his self-loathing some after all of the things he went through during the war.

Besides loathing himself for all the things he's done, he also despises anyone he sees as a villain. However, he won't go out of his way to stop them if they're just killing other "villains" like themselves. He doesn't care what they do unless they're dragging an innocent person into it(for example, when the Spark Signal terrorists were running around and he was supposed to stop them, he was content to let other people deal with it until he saw them hurting people). He is especially likely to jump into something if there are children involved and will always step in on a situation where the people he cares for are in danger. He can't stand it when people who, in his mind, don't belong there are dragged into the world of "darkness" anyone he sees as a villain supposedly lives in. While the life of a person he sees as good has worth to him and he'll usually go out of his way avoid hurting them or letting anyone "bad" do so, the life of someone he sees as evil like himself is worthless in his eyes and he feels no remorse in slaughtering them without mercy when he's given a reason to.

"The kind of person that can take up arms without hesitation to shoot down the villain is no better than a villain himself. The kind of person that doesn't care about others, doesn't given second chances, that kills when given a reason...is definitely not a hero. You don't have to become that kind of person. Only I have to go through that."

He knows he's a hypocrite, but in his mind someone has to be that hypocrite, and it's better him--someone that's already "tainted"--than someone else. He's already ruined for life, so he's believes he's the only one who has to do what he does. Really, he almost thinks he's doing everyone a service, because if he didn't live his life the way he does someone else would have to become as tainted as him.

Although Accelerator used to very firmly believe he can't be saved, he seems to be at least less vehement about this fact now that he's survived a war. Generally, he can sometimes be persuaded to doubt his inability to be redeemed because deep down he really wants nothing more than to redeem himself. When pushed or challenged, he may go out of his way to do something nice(like taking a girl he'd never met before out to lunch because he heard her complaining about being hungry), but he isn't going to be nice about it and will probably come up with a half-assed excuse for why he's doing it. It's still very, very difficult for him to own up to any positive emotions, although he will admit to wanting to protect other people far more easily these days.

While he very rarely allows himself to get attached to others(after all, people around him tend to get hurt), the few he has are very important to him. He never really had a family(his parents are never mentioned, but it's implied he was an orphan) and was raised by scientists who were usually either terrified of or cruel to him, so the little adoptive family he eventually managed to build is very important to him. He will go to great lengths to protect them, especially Last Order--he would do pretty much anything to protect her. To him, she is the most important thing in the world and he's willing to throw all of his morals out of the window if her safety is in jeopardy. Accelerator even says that he's willing to become their enemy if that's what it takes to keep the people he cares about safe, and is willing to hurt Yomikawa or Yoshikawa if it means protecting them from death, but he's made a vow to never hurt another clone again so when it comes to Last Order or any of the other sister clones he'll generally do anything to avoid them getting hurt at all. Snapping and hurting one of the clones after she toyed with his mind and almost killed Last Order caused him great distress, to the point of having the largest mental breakdown of his life and briefly becoming practically suicidal.

Because of Accelerator's past belief that he was a villain and could never change that, he developed hero worship towards Kamijou Touma, the boy that stopped the experiment he was in. He even attempted to imitate him a few times, trying to use his right hand like Touma does despite needing it for his cane. He soon abandoned this, but in his mind Touma is still the perfect example of a hero and a flawless human being who literally has no faults. Unfortunately, his hero worship of Touma only further convinced him that he was a villain who could never change no matter how hard he tried. Touma is actually what convinced Accelerator to drop the villain thing, though--Touma lectured him when he was practically suicidal and it finally convinced him that his way of thinking was wrong. It's fairly likely that he could develop hero worship towards other people he views as heroic, but none of them would ever be able to match up to Touma, as far as he's concerned.

Accelerator has a lot of raw intelligence and is very good with science and technology, but he has very little common sense because of his childhood being shuffled from research lab to research lab. Before he sustained brain damage he always relied on his powers for everything and could get what he wanted easily without really having to think, so he's still not always the best at applying his brainpower to his battles, but he's gotten much better at it after dealing with his disability for awhile. He also has a tendency to jump to overly complicated and ridiculous conclusions and refuse to believe they could be wrong, such as when he was convinced that Komoe Tsukuyomi(who appears to be a dwarf) was part of an experiment with growth hormones and drugs and would not hear a word against his theory. This is probably why it took so long for him to realize his views on morality were flawed. He can also be pretty paranoid, having in the past thought that all kinds of things would lead to a nuclear war that would leave him the last living thing on earth, and even briefly believing that WWIII was his fault/an attempt to capture him. But because he lived his life constantly dealing with people who would go to great lengths to control and use him, it's really not surprising that he ended up that way.

Accelerator is extremely mentally unstable and easily shaken--it's fairly easy to trigger a mental breakdown if you know the right buttons to push. Although he likes to complain about some of his more mundane problems, he tends to bury the things that truly bother him. He'll either refuse to mention them when questioned about them or talk about them very casually as if they're just facts and don't matter(ie how he runs around telling everyone he's a villain and can't change no matter how hard he tries.). He really only tends seriously address them when he's having a mental breakdown of some sort, and the way he ignores his problems is probably part of the reason why it's so easy to cause one in the first place.

Abilities/Powers:
Accelerator is an Esper. Esper powers are ranked on a scale of 0-5, with Level 0s having no measurable power at all and Level 5s being the most powerful. Out of only seven Level 5s in existence, Accelerator is the most powerful. His ability is referred to as "Vector Manipulation" and allows him to change the vectors of anything his AIM field comes in contact with(so basically anything he touches, as AIM fields surround an Esper's body and Accelerator's is particularly thin). His AIM field also acts as his "redirection field" and automatically deflects anything that comes towards him, save things like oxygen that are automatically allowed in and things he consciously allows in like food and water. His redirection field has automatically deflected bullets, body parts of any person attempting to touch him, and even things like UV rays(to protect his skin from the sun because of his albinism). His powers are theoretically capable of a lot, and some examples of the ways he has used his powers in canon include: reversing a person's blood flow with the touch of a finger, creating explosions of earth around him, propelling himself forward at ridiculous speeds, chucking objects at people, controlling wind, creating cyclones on his back to allow him to "fly," compressing air to create plasma, "hacking" a brain using bioelectricity, standing on the moving blades of a helicopter, and even using the kinetic energy from the Earth's rotation to attack something(this slowed down the Earth's rotation by about five minutes). He uses his powers by doing complex physics calculations in his head, nearly instantaneously in most cases. Because of the nature of his powers, however, throwing off his calculations would ruin whatever he's trying to do--but he's very good at what he does, so it's not something that happens often.

As overpowered as Accelerator is, there are a variety of circumstances that can hinder his use of his abilities. Most of them are very specific and unlikely to come up in roleplay, but the main thing to consider is his brain damage. Accelerator used to be able to use his powers 24/7, but after the scientist Amai Ao shot him in the head, that was no longer the case. It was a miracle that Accelerator managed to survive his accident, and the damage to his brain originally left him unable to move his body at all save for his arms as well as being unable to speak or understand language. Being able to use his powers like this was out of the question. However, his doctor developed a way to lessen the effects of the damage: Accelerator wears a collar around his neck that connects him to the Misaka network of clones. This collar has a wire that connects to electrodes hidden in his hair and sends electric signals to his brain. With it, he is able to function much better--he can speak(albeit with a slight slur that becomes more pronounced when he uses his powers) and move but cannot walk without the aid of a cane. The battery that powers the collar must be charged periodically for him to be able to continue to function, currently lasting for several days in "normal" mode and several hours in "Esper" mode. To have access to his powers, Accelerator has to switch settings on his collar, and using them eats away the battery much faster.

As an Esper, Accelerator does not necessarily mix well with magic. He can still block it, but it dissipates rather than being redirected back at the spell's caster. Using it himself is a bad idea as generally that results in a reaction that includes sweating and bursting blood vessels. This reaction would kill most Espers, but Accelerator is different in a few ways so has been able to survive it. During his awakenings(detailed below), Accelerator's wings were said to be made of a substance very similar to the magic used by angels(Telesma) and the Dark Matter created by Kakine Teitoku. Becoming an angel has further altered his relationship with magic, as seen when he was able to work with feng shui in New Testament 2.

Separate from his normal powers, Accelerator has also been able to do what is known as "awakening," and this lead to him eventually becoming an artificial angel. Both his angel mode and awakened state are/were triggered by emotions.

In his awakened state, black wings that appeared to be made of mist manifested on his back. They made him much more powerful, enabling him to use his wings to attack(they are, for whatever reason, extremely sharp) and manipulate things without touching them. He was capable of awakening regardless of the state of his brain battery, as awakenings did not rely on it. The emotional triggers for his awakenings were anger, despair, and a desire to kill his opponent so strong that he was willing to throw all of his morals out of the window to do so. He was originally unable to consciously control his actions in this state, but grew able to over time. It was never explicitly stated but it is generally assumed that he can no longer awaken, because it was replaced by artificial angel mode.

Little is known about angel mode yet, but it is generally assumed to be triggered by something more positive, like a strong desire to protect. He has only activated his angel mode once in canon, and he did so after he smiled at Last Order and told her that he wanted to be with her forever(in a familial sense, not a romantic one). Little is known about the power boost he receives in this state, but it is probably safe to assume that he can still manipulate things without touching them. The only real action we see him take in angel mode is stopping a beam of magical energy from destroying all of Eurasia.

Although his battery has a much longer life than it used to, Accelerator still tries to use his powers sparingly in order to preserve it. He mostly uses them to defend himself and protect others, and due to feeling secure in his abilities will most likely not bother with plasmids. He'd be a bit wary of them anyway, due to his past.

Items/Weapons:
-his gun
-the cane he needs to walk with.
-a picture of him, Byakuren Hijiri, and Satou Kuroneko(AKA the most recent version of his Mayfield family) together. Satou([personal profile] priceofmagic) is being played here currently but without any memory of Mayfield and I have gotten permission from her mun for him to have this since it involves her character.

Kidnapped to another goddamn town. That was just his luck, wasn't it? At least he didn't have any stupid obligation to go to school or anything. Continuing to live somewhere that forced him to stay with other people was irritating, but for the time being he much preferred the run-down Haven to the 50s hell he came from. It wasn't like there were many people from Mayfield left to miss, anyway. He was personally attached to only a few of the people that remained undroned...although there were plenty of drones he wanted to keep an eye on. It was silly really, but those were still the bodies of the people he'd sworn to protect and even somehow grown to care for...

Still, what seemed like a slightly better situation to him wasn't a good one. Being stranded in another shitty town that seemed to be determined to put him through hell was hardly ideal to anyone, let alone him.

As futile as he knew it would be, he couldn't help but force himself to travel to the barrier and see how useless his immense power would be for escaping. It was just a reminder--you're trapped here too, better get used to it. But wasn't that the story of his life? Trapped in Academy City because there wasn't really anywhere else for him to go. Trapped in Mayfield and living under threat of brainwashing every day. Trapped in Haven, waiting to see what horrors it had in store for him and how they'd compare to all the others.

He wasn't looking forward to it but...bring it on, Haven.

Personality:

Kanen'tó:kon, since his adolecent years, has been a young man of caution. He's reserved, careful of things, and many times questions said things for the sake of safety-- and perhaps insecurity. To shed more light on this characteristic, we have his strong friendship with Ratonhnhaké:ton, protagonist assassin in AC3. Kanen'tó:kon was not the best hunter, nor did he know how to climb trees as his friend did when they were younger. Rather, he hadn't the slightest idea where to start, and would always damper his own potential.

Above all of this, he was on the chubby side during those years, further instigating his insecurety with himself, his own skills and potential-- of which, "Connor" ( Ratonhnhaké:ton's adopted name ) would frequently encourage him to have faith in himself,to challenge himself. That is to say, at times, Kanen held some rather true points when he voiced his concerns ( if you're cliimbing a large, inclined cliff, of course there's a chance you could fall and die ). Connor was more a troublemaker, a challenge seeker, you see-- while on the other hand, Kanen was the voice of reason by saying "I don't think this is a good idea" or "I don't know about this". He would be the one to steer the two from trouble-- most trouble. But, if Kanen'tó:kon were to mistep, to take a tumble during their misadventures, his friend was also always there to help him back up. One hand washed the other.

Not the most graceful, Kanen'tó:kon slipped and fell into a river when he was learning to freerun, hanging by a log and unable to pull himself up without aid. When he hunted alone for the first time-- he was found and chased by a bear. None of these, clearly, were his fault-- but if it didn't make him seem like a clumsy person! Despite this, Kanen is shown to easily pick up things being taught to him. His memory is fit for learning quickly ( plus, he had a good teacher to speed the process! ) Now at 22 years old rather than 15-- most of his insecurities have dimininished-- yet that does not mean they are too long gone. He still remains ever careful, leaning more to a timid side rather than outgoing.

Another thing Kanen'tó:kon has is devotion. Loyalty. All to the people of his village; his family, and his home earn a high and special place on his list of priorities. He will go to towering heights to see their safety, and shows great concern when things just aren't right. If he must fight, he will fight as a fierce warrior, to death if he must, and will not stop until the threat is eliminated. The Mohawk does everything in his ability to take care of oppossing tasks, yet, when a solution is farther from his reach, he tends to seek help as soon as possible, knowing when he could handle things and when he can't.

Kanen'tó:kon is a kind heart, treating those with respect, and his friends with an even higher regard. Once gained, this man is a companion that shows care, amiability, and watches out for them just as he does with his very people. They become brothers, sisters-- and could very well be for a life time. While bonds are strong, they are also fragil. His trust is cherished, and held very high though, so much so that just as it could form, it could shatter. If something, anything, gives him enough reason to feel betrayed, that trust is easily parted in two, with little to no chance of returning to a relationship it once was. We could say that Kanen is a "one strike, you're out" man.

Abilities/Powers: Kanen is a normal human being, so no supernatural powers! Any acknowledgable abilities he posses include hunting, climbing trees, freerunning, and weapon handling, such as weilding a knife and fighting.

Items/Weapons: bow + arrows, a knife, and a small sack for carrying things.

Sample Entry Two:

Crisp chills of air flow about the valley on a fine autumn morning, caressing the cheeks of a Mohawk man as he stalked grasslands for game. Kanen'tó:kon had been after a doe, in the mean time carefully placing traps for smaller kills, such as rabbits or foxes, along edges of various bushes. Every time he went hunting ( today, alone ), Kanen'tó:kon always recalled the tips his old friend had given him some years ago, the lessons they had shared, that now, served as not only valuable information, but memories. He cherished the days Ratonhnhaké:ton still walked the village with him, trekking through trees and causing trouble like two young boys do, and even now welcomed the Assassin with open arms when his friend made visits from Davenport Homestead. Crouched behind a boulder, Kanen'tó:kon watches from the corner of stone as the doe approaches the placed bait near the clearing. There you are; It was his chance to approach.

Bow in hand, the man quickly and swiftly transitions from the boulder to tall grass. Remaining crouched, his eyes stay locked just as a predator would their prey, observant, patient-- and begins to move. The moment brought a brief sensation of excitement-- it always had; the thrill of the hunt, if you will. Kanen'tó:kon carefully reach for one of his arrows, thinking This is it, as he prepared the bow and--

Crack.

The native could only remain wide eyed and inwardly cringe. Oh, no-- With a final crawling step forward, he had managed to step on a bundle of twigs, heavily splitting them in two. This hardly happened, hardly-- yet sometimes it happened. The doe rears her neck upwards, ears shooting up with alert and staring straight in his direction. He knew the animal would bolt even without him in sight in fear, so he takes not a moment less it revealing himself, bow and arrow aimed.

You could bet the moment the deer captured movement, she dashed without waste-- and so did Kanen'tó:kon release the arrow and let it the weapon fly. If it weren't for the startling noise, it would have been a clean, aimed kill. He calculated. She would have given her life quickly and quietly, without struggle, the way it should be. But, instead, the arrow had wounded her thigh, therefore, albeit labored and pained, she still ran.

Kanen'tó:kon clenched his teeth and muttered short words in his native tongue, disappointed in his clean kill gone wrong, and taking off after her. Wait, he whispered-- She would not last, it would not be difficult to catch up; he wanted to as soon as possibly could. She would suffer every moment running, and he hadn't wanted that at all. Surely, Ratonhnhaké:ton would have teased him for the slip up-- yet, quite honestly, it brought a smile to his lips. It would serve as a story to tell when he payed his next visit.

[personal profile] aposteriori 2013-01-01 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality:
Yukari is an elderly, proud youkai of Gensokyo. Unlike the younger ones of her kind, she is not as energetic or overt with what she will or will not become involved in. For the most part, she simply sleeps days and nights end upon end, conserving her energy and powers for when she will actually need it. Meanwhile, she has her shikigami Ran do the grunt work of tending to the border around Gensokyo in her place. When will she actually need it? From time to time, naturally, as this is Gensokyo and incidents that may need her expertise are numerous and often. Yet, even then there is not many a time where she will actively participate in helping out an incident (with one exception). Instead, she would often delegate tasks to others. She would rather have others tend to incidents under her (minor) direction, should they even want her involvement. Similarly, this aspect is often expressed in her rather manipulative nature when regarding others.

Following this thought, Yukari is known as the resident troll of her world. Although she's old and lazy, Yukari does what she wants, when she wants. That 'when', of course, would be right after she finishes her next nap. She's a trickster in her manipulation, often abusing her abilities to pop in uninvited or to steal things. Her antics can make others miserable, annoyed, and much more difficult for a time. Yet, more often that not she means no real harm unless someone is to get on her bad side. She enjoys both the extravagant and simple; in fact, she will make an extravagant plot just to obtain something simple. As the Youkai of Boundaries both figurative and literal, it makes sense that she enjoys expressing opposites in the way she goes about her business. Testing the strength of the fibers of concepts and reality is a past time, and when bored enough to not even sleep, one can be sure she will be up to something regarding this fact.

As for interpersonal relationships, Yukari is not always antagonizing or a so-called troll (although admittedly she is as much frequently). Despite being a youkai, Yukari is rather friendly and polite towards humans upon first meeting them... or at least she gives them as much politeness as they are due. That is, Yukari isn't the type of youkai to suddenly attack, curse, or eat humans just because she can or she's simply hungry. Besides, there is a boundary between a human and youkai, one that she can easily manipulate. In fact, if given enough incentive, she may lend some of her aid. She can tell others about Gensokyo and herself. Easily so; in fact, she is frequently cited as being the most informed being in Gensokyo. The problem with anything Yukari-related, whether words, body language, or actions, is if what she says or does is true or not. To one who can manipulate the boundaries between truths and falsehoods, whether she is being called insincere or not matters little.

There are but two things that make her move upon the great game board that is existence, and that is when the integrity of Gensokyo is threatened and when someone she actually does care about is threatened. Note that the two are are not mutually exclusive. Sometimes the two reasons even conflict with each other, but Yukari is not above compromises between the two. Her main motivation does come something deeper than just seeking amusement or pure hedonism, but this is not often expressed enough for others to see. Yukari does have a sensitive side to her, but she regards acknowledging it or truly showing it as something only meant for a select few individuals.

Abilities/Powers:
☞ Youkai strength and stamina. Naturally, it is above of an average human's.
☞ Flight. Yukari can hover and fly. While she's not as speedy, say, a tengu, she is still pretty fast.
☞ Spell Cards/Danmaku. Genoskyo has this rule that if you're challenged to a spell card battle, you absolutely must fight by the means of one. This ensures that fights are (or can be) fair, even between those with vast power differences (a human can challenge and win against a god, a fairy can challenge and win against a shinigami, etc.). Damaku (literally bullet curtain) is a kind of spell card in which the use sends out a range of bullets, sometimes very few, sometimes over a hundred at a time, on the playing field. The opponent must dodge danmaku and fight back in order to win. Yakumo has a number of spell cards at her disposal. An entry on her type of cards can be found in the Grimoire of Marisa. Her others are the following, but note that a number of them are carried over between games: PCB spell cards, IaMP spell cards, SWR spell cards, StB spell cards, and Soku spell cards.
☞ Yukari's ability is the manipulation of all boundaries, material, conceptual, metaphysical, spiritual, and so on. She's been shown to manipulate the boundaries between Lie and Truth, Life and Death, Wave and Particle, 2nd Dimension and 3rd Dimension, Form and Emptiness... the list could go on and on, but, you know, that would depend on Yukari's creativeness, which is limited by her laziness.
☞ Dimensional travel. Not that she... actually tends to go to different dimensions or alternate realities. It seems she's rather fond of the one she's in right now.
☞ She has this special "gap"-ing ability that she uses for a variety of things. She can teleport to and from places by creating these gaps. She doesn't even need to physically move all the way into a gap to do what she wants, too. If she places a hand in a gap somewhere, that same hand will come out another one somewhere else. Gaps can also be used for storage or furniture. Yukari is often depicted as leaning or sitting on them. For the most part, Yukari uses gaps to annoy and/or troll others.

Items/Weapons:
☞ Her parasol.
☞ Her hat.

Sample Entry: ten sentences

Raaaaaaan....! ( The call echoes. Crickets could chirp. Yukari looks to the camera, groggily, annoyed, bored. ) Hm... That's enough of that. ( It seems she's too lazy to try calling again. ) I suppose if any of you have seen a shikigami with nine tails walking or flying or cursing around, direct her towards me.

Oh-- that reminds me. I should give you all a reward should you find her~. ( Chin hands upon a gap she creates for herself. ) Well, finding my Shikigami is a reward in of itself. Simply step on one of her tails and she will bless you for good luck for a generation. Step on another tail, and that's one more generation of yours that will be blessed! And so on and so-forth. I'd recommend that you give them a good tug, too... In fact, I believe there is no one who could resist petting her fur. ( There's a chuckle here. ) And trust me, she absolutely loves it.

( Anyone knowing the tale of the nine-tailed youkai fox can obviously tell that it's a tragic curse and not a blessing should one step on its tail. Curious how the woman seems to be so obvious about this little discrepancy. )

Sample Entry Two:
Sometimes it's nice having a reputation of being one of the stronger youkai of Gensokyo. The titled tends to clear paths of others, dispel lines for the open baths, and allow flower viewing in peace. Other times it makes other forms of nuisances appear, more often in the form of the prideful underdog types. So now with a young fairy challenging the old youkai, Yukari can't help the sly smile that tugs at the corner of her lips. The smile itself is enough to make the fairy suddenly tense, as if she expects foul play against the spell-card system.

...Which Yukari can certainly do, if she so wanted. But no, she would honor it. Even if the spell card system allows for fairer battles between gross differences in power levels, there are levels in the spell cards themselves, and there are other ways of having fun with this game. The parasol in Yukari's hand spins as she begins to hover off the dirt ground, forming a gap to sit on. No, her opponent today doesn't even deserve the acknowledgement of having Yukari standing during a duel. It's a silent insult to the the fairy, and she knows it. Rushed and afraid, Yukari's opponent begins her attack.

Ah, the poor thing-- Yukari can only muse that the fairy certainly doesn't know what she's gotten herself into now. Perhaps she should go easy on her, if only to insult her further...

[personal profile] fatal_lancer 2013-01-01 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality:
Judith manages to straddle the difficult line of being cool without being cold, and the line of not giving much way without being reserved. Her emotions are understated and she never loses her temper or her nerve. At best, she’s calm and collected in even the most troubling scenarios. At worst, she’s nearly inhuman, all emotion suppressed in exchange for monotone and purpose. Judith is very much a woman made up of a mission and a goal and has clung to the idea that those were all that mattered, for many years of her life. Exchanging interpersonal relationships and wellbeing for the mission, the goal, was something she did readily, if not happily.

As a Krityan, Judith maintains a strong empathic connection with her partner, Ba’ul. Having rescued her when she was a child during the Great War, Ba’ul has remained her close friend and companion for many years. Despite being what most would consider an animal, Judith never refers to Ba’ul as her pet or her ward. Ba’ul is always, “my friend,” and “my partner.” No matter what, she and Ba’ul are on equal terms. However, this connection is a bit of a double-edged sword: after all, why would you need to form new relationships when you already have an intrinsic partnership? Add in her mission: to destroy Blastia, the technology by which the world runs itself in the manner to which it’s accustomed, without prejudice. Well-aware that such a goal will not endear the public at large to her, no matter how noble her intentions, Judith keeps primarily to her own company. Her intimate thoughts, her beliefs, her intentions are all kept tight under wraps, although that has lessened somewhat recently. Letting people in is a learning curve.

When Judith does reveal her more hidden machinations, either by the situation demanding it or making a rare show of trust, her confidence in her own person doesn’t waver, but merely changes. She may apologise or regret, but she will not back down or crumble. She will get from Point A to Point B no matter what the cost, even if she has to get by on sheer determination alone. Judith would like to believe she doesn’t need others, but has grown enough to recognise it as a fable. She can’t live alone; she knows this much. Compromise with her, let her keep what’s hers. She’ll appreciate you all the more for it.

She has an impulsive streak and loves a good fight. Judith is no stranger to getting her hands dirty, able to handle herself in all sorts of close-quarters combat. Give her a weapon and she’ll gut you with that. Leave her without one; she still has four limbs and an impressive pair of combat stilettos. It is important to note, however, that Judith is not cruel or malicious. She does not initiate violence against the helpless. She engages those who engage her and she fights those who can fight back. Ask her about this, she’ll simply tell you that fighting an unarmed opponent wouldn’t be any fun at all. While that’s probably true, it underestimates the kindness of spirit that guides her actions – such as the mission to destroy Blastia, which were slowly poisoning the world through causing excess aer output. Judith is, at her core, kind and nurturing. She may never admit it, but it’s not difficult to see. She prefers to be seen as whimsical and flighty but doesn’t get too upset when that image is poked at, either.

Another Krityan trait Judith has inherited is an inherent chillness (not to be mistaken with “chilliness”). It wouldn’t be difficult to describe Judith as perpetually relaxed. No matter what the situation, Judith never gets angry, never raises her voice or loses her composure. She greets most, if not all, situations with complete and utter tranquility. When she feels someone needs to be corrected, she does so in the same tone she uses when imparting information, or flirting, or in simple casual conversation. Rarely will she try to control the actions of another on her own, however, Judith is much more the type to offer a suggestion and let the other party reach their own conclusions. The single exception is when she feels someone may not be quite aware of the impact their choices are having on others. A small incidence of this would be her comments to Estelle, “I wasn’t aware we were still following this girl’s whims,” when Estelle had made the assumption that the quest still revolved around her. Even then, she simply let it go with one (and then two) comments, trusting that Estelle could reach the right conclusions herself.

Socially, this can make her seem a little spacy. If something distracts her, Judith will just wander off without a care and return with a smile and a, “shall we?” It is also worth noting that Judith is no stranger to the pout, either. She, like everyone else in existence, enjoys getting what she wants. She loves to flirt and troll in equal measure; her tranquil nature and subdued expression a perfect mask for her utter playfulness.

By her own admission, Judith is a poor liar. While this may be true, a great deal of her nature comes from simply not talking about things. She defers to a pleasant, calm state, making it seem as if nothing is ever wrong. When the mask comes off, Judith is considerably more weighed down: with guilt, if not regret; with an apologetic sort of resignation. In her own way, Judith will not stop until the world is “fixed” – it’s only the method that might change. Judith knows the difference between bending and breaking.

At the end of the day, Judith is far from unkind. It may take a while for her to consider someone a friend, but being a friend of Judith’s is a lifelong arrangement. Take the bad in with the good: she’s straightforward to the point of blunt or inappropriate, a wicked tease, and sometimes utterly without shame… as well as capable, unwavering, kind and wise. It all works in the end.

Abilities/Powers:
  • Judith is very skilled in close-quarters combat, very proficient with a spear. She favours aerial combat, amazingly, and many of her "artes" — attack spells — are based around something that could be called "flying", because why not. She can jump a high distance to attack her opponents from overhead. With a substantial amount of arm and length strength, she either attacks with her spear or her shoes. (Here is a video of Judith's combat abilities, lifted straight from Tales of Vesperia.)

  • Overlimit: In times of high adrenaline or emotion, Judith can go into overlimit. Essentially, it's a brief burst of arte-powered energy that renders her unstoppable for a brief period of time. When in overlimit, she does not grow fatigued like she would in regular, unassisted combat.

  • Burst artes and mystic artes: When in overlimit, Judith can also access her mystic arte, Radiant Moonlight. It's a strong burst of electric energy pushed down in an overhead swing on her opponent, and deals a significantly punishing amount of damage. Burst artes are the precursor to mystic artes: stronger than regular artes, but not as powerful as mystic artes.

  • Judith is also a skilled cook, able to concoct meals from basic ingredients and a rustic environment, and a renowned poker player with a world famous poker face.

Items/Weapons: (1) Brionac, her spear. (2) Ba'ul antenna accessory. (3) Combat stilettos.

Sample Entry:
one. post from a former game.
two. morning after meme musebox thread.

Sample Entry Two:
When the weight of the city’s terror starts to sit poorly in her, Judith takes to the highest point she can. A tree, a rooftop, even a balcony. It helps to be closer to the sky, even as it feels more like a ceiing.

This place – Haven – holds her too tightly. Every day, a new potential threat, new loss, new damage, new opportunities. Do this, and everything stays the way it is. Do this, and all those privileges could be taken away. It’s a fine line and there are days when Judith hates it.

There are days when she thinks she might not mind it, either.

Her eyes skim green, and she knows it for fake green. Even paved sidewalks can start to look like grass when she stares long enough.

It could be terrible, and she knows it. It could be boxed in grey walls and the whims of a jailer. It could be starvation until death. It could be blatant, unrepentant cruelty.

Cruelty in disguise is only that much kinder – but it’s a margin she’ll take. It’s a prickly, bittersweet sort of hope.

Regardless, there are still days when she needs to be up as high as she can. She twists through tree branches, gentle with her efforts. She doesn’t especially want to hurt the tree, when it’s a much more accepting prisoner.
