Applications Two

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED!
The next application opening date is Friday 16th January, 7pm EST.
The next application processing date is Friday 23rd January, 7pm EST.

IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE

We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.

We now have a test drive community at [community profile] haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.

While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.

To see what we are looking for:

Sample Entry:

[ He looks completely uninterested, as he turns on the screen. The interest in the thing has been pushed aside by another matter. ]

Has anyone seen a scroll about the Kokonotsu? The old version of the tale. There're notes about everywhere on it, by different people. I could mention what's written by who, but that's annoying.

[ He waves a sleeve in a motion of a little confusion, and pats down his bangs when they gets ruffled. ]

Anyway. It vanished places, and I don't know much of where to find lost things in this town yet. If anyone does know that'd be great but... yeah....yeah, that's ...it, I guess.

[ Awkward silence. Alright, so he doesn't know much about what he was supposed to say on this. Was that enough? ...Oh... Right.. There was that. ]

And if anyone runs into an idiot who mistakes words all the time called Uzume, tell him that I'm gonna punch him once when I see him.

Sample Entry Two:

He was dreaming, and it wasn't a happy dream.

The dream was pain and blood, it was fear and heartbreak, and it was words filled with hate. Pain from both people's lips that spilled insults and curses and death, and pain from fists and sticks and weapons raining down on his body. He heard his own pleas and screams, felt his throat go sore by it, felt tears spill down his face as they burned his face with marks that would last for eternity.

When he woke up, he felt his body shivering, tense with memories flooding his mind, seeing faces of people who only wished him pain, instead of the ceiling above him. A strangled sound escaped his throat, and he was unable to tell them to stop, don't, he had nothing to do with it.

When his mind returned to him, sharply telling him that it was something long passed, he noticed. Uzume's body-heat wasn't there... Nor the crushing familiarity of his bone-breaking hugs... What... ”Uzu...!?” Where was he? Where was the stupid idiot? And, when he turned to look to his other side, where was Minamo?

With a body that was still tense and filled with fear, confusion and the need for his friends, he sat up, looked around him and his mind screamed. No, where was anyone? None of the others were there, not Thread Eyes, not Doctor, not Cat Eyes, not Hime-san or Nee-san, nor either of the two tanuki. He was all alone, in a place that he didn't know, didn't recognize, and he didn't like it, he hated it, it reminded him far too much of the loneliness and pain back when he was a child, blamed for being part of something that his father had done all on his own. Things that he had nothing to do with, that he had been punished for.

He rubbed his sleeve over his face, wiped traces of tears, only barely there, and tried not to think about the tattoos that he hated so much. With his movement, something moved in his lap, rolled from his knee and over the floor. With eyes wild, he turned his gaze to it, and noticed what it was.

He must have fallen sleep while reading through the scroll, filled with the old tale of the Kokonotsu written down on it. Taking a deep, shaky breath in an attempt to calm down, he reached for the scroll. Yes, it was the tale of the Kokonotsu treasure. Filled with notes added by people from their group. There were scrawls that was unmistakably Thread Eyes', words written in a tidy hand, belonging to Doctor, Ae-san's neat but elegant letters. And Uzume's almost illegible writing, corrected with Chouza's own writing. The scroll was even signed, close to Thread Eyes' writing, by Pochi's paw print.

Feeling the texture of the familiar item, feeling the faint scents of everyone mixed together sticking to the scroll, he noticed how his breathing calmed, his grip relaxing. His body was still shivering infrequently, but it wasn't a terrible force anymore, even if he felt as if he was about to double over from the thoughts running through his mind.

Unease and determination took over instead, and he clutched tighter to the scroll as he slowly climbed to his feet. First of all, he had to find the others.

Emma Swan • Once Upon A Time • Reserved

Name: Mary Beth
Contact Info: My plurk
Other Characters Played: N/A
Requested apartment: It'd be awesome if she could room with Jefferson, Henry, and David, but she'd also be fine on her own.
Character Name:Emma Swan
Canon: Once Upon A Time
Canon Point: There's No Place Like Home 3x22 - Just after she and Hook watched Snow and Charming go their separate ways, immediately after their past was finally set right.
Background/History: Emma Swan
Previous Game History: Emma spent over a year in Exitvoid, and was forced to endure COMPASS' "fear experiments" at least a dozen times while she was in there. She was also faced with an ever-changing population of captives from Storybrooke, ranging from the town doctor to her son. In having to manage all of this, the biggest shift has been in Emma as a leader. She is always going to care about other people and do what she can to help them, but this was the first time she had to be pro-active with a group of people who don't necessarily consider her their savior. In Zelien (and on the ship, the Charon), Emma tried to step up a few times in order to help the people around her.

Only a few weeks into her time on their ship of horrors, the Project Head locked everyone in their rooms with their roommates and forced them to decide which of their little group was going to die. The amount of captives and rooms in use meant that over thirty people would be killed permanently. While Emma originally tried to control herself, watching one of the captives being boiled alive was too much for her. She was a part of a small group (four captives) that spoke out against what was going on and started a riot, which turned into a battle with the creatures on the ship. Progress seemed to stem from that, if only because it angered the Project Head so much that he wanted a bigger fight. Everyone on the ship was warned that it was coming and prepared for battle.

After a few days of this, they not only won the battle, but also found a way to reverse the pull onto the ship and to go home. Emma was one of the many who returned home for a month as the game transitioned into its next phase. When she returned, it wasn't to the ship, but to a city in 1920s America called "Zelien". She was upset to learn that some people never made it home, and also to discover that they once again were being held prisoner by the same organization. For a long stretch of time, Emma was more quiet in her attempts to make progress. She collected materials in the event of another one of their disasters and fought to protect people during events both within and out of the city. She strengthened her bonds with people from Storybrooke, and built them with others from faraway lands.

Emma also became a den mother of sorts, befriending and becoming fiercely protective of many of the younger captives. This was especially true of Peter Parker, Ib, Skye, and oddly enough, Jim Kirk. (She apparently wears his mother's face.) Her motherly instincts served her well within the game, and those bonds helped to prepare her for when Henry showed up and needed her to protect him. Her wanting to get back to, and eventually to fight for her son also brought her closer to Jefferson, the Mad Hatter from Storybrooke. In him, she has not only a new partner in crime, but also the understanding of another parent who would do anything for his child.

The biggest blow to Emma's confidence was in an escape plan gone wrong. After months of running herself ragged trying to stay alive and protect her loved ones, Emma and a group of friends decided to slow the train of arrivals to a stop when it came in, thinking that they could hold it in place with magic and then take over the train to bring everyone home. Instead of things going according to plan, the rails beneath the train gave in, causing it to go over. A train full of new arrivals would have been upsetting enough to Emma, but it got worse when she went on board to help them out and discovered her mother, her son, and her ex on the train. (Also Peter Pan and Felix, but no loss there.) Though their injuries were mild, the savior putting anyone through that sort of fear and unnecessary pain was a harsh learning experience for her. Since she was using magic to hold the train, it gave her a better understand of the idea that magic, even light magic, comes with a price.

Overall, she has become more aware of her own weaknesses; that she's too impulsive at times and needs more practice with her magic. She is more emotionally open than she usually is in canon because of the friendships that were formed in Zelien, and willing to take charge when someone needs help.

Personality: Depending on the situation, Emma can behave as a kind-hearted heroine, a bratty twelve-year old or anything in between. Many of the ‘flaws’ in her personality are the result of her upbringing. She spent twenty-eight years believing that her parents had abandoned her on the side of the road. As a result, Emma grew up in the foster system. She was shuffled around to people who she believes didn’t want her, and ran away at sixteen only to become a thief. Once she was out on her own, she met another thief (Neal Cassidy) and fell in love, only to be abandoned by him just weeks before discovering she was pregnant with their son, Henry.
All of these events have weighed on Emma, and she doesn’t allow herself to trust easily. When men are involved, she’s practically a lost cause. She doesn’t want to get invested and open up to someone only to end up disappointed again, and that is exactly what happens when she makes the effort. She’s been in love with Neal since she was sixteen, but he isn’t the only man who she has lost. Sheriff Graham died in her arms just moments after kissing her and having his memories restored. August Booth was a close friend who ended up reverting back to his cursed age. Walsh, a man who she met in New York City, proposed to her to keep her from returning to Storybrooke. When he realized she was going back anyway, he turned into a flying monkey and attacked her.

Hook has made mention of being glad that Walsh was able to break her heart, because, in his words “if it could be broken, that means it still works”. With charming comments like that, it’s a wonder that she can resist her dashing pirate. (Honestly, though, she does trust Hook and has admitted as much to Regina.) He showed an interest in her the moment she hauled him off, tied him to a tree, and threatened his life. For Emma, there was no reason to take him seriously until he offered to sail his ship to Neverland to save her son, and him returning to find her once the second curse hit solidified a more significant bond between the two of them.

When other people put her first and risk their own lives to help her, Emma doesn’t know what to make of it. She expects to have to struggle on her own, and doesn’t always know her own worth. In her moments of weakness she can be very insecure, and will doubt herself and the things that she’s capable of. She wants to be independent, and isn't sure how to admit it when she does need someone else.

Although confidence doesn’t always come easily, Emma is extremely strong-willed. She probably gets this from her parents, and once she's set on something, good luck getting her to back down. Right or wrong, she will fight for what she believes is “right” or true. Having grown up in the ‘real’ world, there are things about it that Emma doesn’t accept. She believes that people need to fight back when they’re stuck and want to change their lives. Typically, we see Emma giving advice to others because they seek her out and ask for it, but there was a rare, honest moment between her and Ashley (Cinderella) when she gave the younger girl advice that seems to share a lot about who she is:

“People are gonna tell you who you are your whole life. You just gotta punch back and say, "No, this is who I am". You want people to look at you differently? Make them! You want to change things, you're gonna have to go out there and change them yourself, because there are no fairy godmothers in this world.”

Although she’s a little more receptive to it than she was before, Emma isn’t a big fan of destiny. She believes that people can change the course of their lives, even from evil to good. A good example of this is when she supports Regina, wanting the woman to become worthy of Henry instead of remaining as the evil queen. This could just be seen as her stubborn refusal to accept the world the way it is and the roles they’re all expected to play, but it seems like there might be more to it than that. Emma has hope when she probably shouldn’t, and has been let down enough times to expect to be disappointed. Her own evolution has made her want to support others, even if there’s the possibility that she’ll eventually come to regret it.

It's difficult for Emma to let her guard down around others, and she comes off as being very abrasive at times. She's street-smart and very clever, although sometimes she'll miss what is right in front of her in favor of chasing down whatever it is she has her mind set on. It was especially difficult for August to deal with her during the curse, because as he dedicated precious time to setting up elaborate schemes to get her to believe, she would shut them down with whatever excuses she wanted to buy into. She's tough in a lot of aspects; won't back down from a fight, won't allow anyone around her to be bullied, and she won't let anyone convince her to do what goes against her instincts. In spite of all of this, there are some ways in which she is surprisingly fragile.

Like most people, what Emma really wants is love. She wants someone to believe in her, to stand by her, and to trust her. The first instances of that in canon were Mary Margaret and Henry, who both reached out to her when she was new in Storybrooke. She carries a lot of guilt for not believing Henry about the curse and confessed to Mary Margaret that as his mother, she should have believed him.

Her idea of what a parent should be tends to based on unrealistically high expectations because for most of her life, she never had a steady parental figure. Her goal with Henry seems to be to become the parent she wishes she had had. She thinks she should have believed Henry about the curse, that she should be honest with him as much as she can, and even promised to never lie to him again (after lying to him about his father). In all that she does, she’s always committed to making the best choice for him.

Emma wants Henry to have the best life possible, and also wants a simple, normal life for herself. Everyone in Storybrooke would like her to settle there again, and it's been a struggle for Emma to understand that Storybrooke is where she belongs when it's also a struggle just to keep everyone alive and happy there.

There's nothing more important to Emma than her son, and she loves him unconditionally. After months of hearing Henry talk about it, the curse in Storybrooke was broken because of her son being her 'true' love and her opening her heart to him. There are times when she worries about whether or not she is capable of being the mother Henry needs, but Emma will do anything for him - even if it means finding the strength to believe in the Dark Curse or running around through the jungles of Neverland.

At this point in her canon, Emma is finally settling into the idea of Storybrooke being her home. She has two sets of memories in her head; her real, complicated life as a lost girl, and the fake memories Regina gave them of a life in which she never gave Henry up. She’s tempted by the one in which she feels she always did right by Henry, even if only a year of it was real, but the easier path isn't quite right to her. Neal always said that she would know that she had a home if she missed it when she went away. When she's stuck in the Enchanted Forest, she finally misses Storybrooke and her family there.

Early on, Regina told Emma that she wasn't threatened by her presence in Storybrooke because the woman had never stayed in one place for very long. It's true; when Emma was young, she moved around a lot and didn't allow herself to become tied down to anything or anyone. She planned to go to Tallahassee and settle down with Neal, and when he betrayed her, she ended up in prison. Eventually Emma did go to Tallahassee, and spent two years there; presumably waiting for him. However, we're told that Tallahassee is the place where Emma stayed the longest, and that she spent most of her time moving around, settling for one-night stands and closing herself off from attachments. Having a place where she feels at home and is emotionally invested means the world to her, but having home exist as a permanent place where all of her loved ones are together is a happy ending that she never expected to find for herself.

Emma believes that love is strength, and said as much to Cora when protecting Mary Margaret from her when she was in danger. Love has made her braver and more vulnerable. She now seems to accept affection and offer hugs to the people she cares about. She will take risks for others, although sometimes being impulsive is more of a curse than a blessing. When Mulan and Aurora threatened Mary Margaret, Emma fired off a gun to make a point. Instead of threatening them, she ended up alerting ogres to their presence and needed Mary Margaret to rescue her. She often dives in headfirst when she is worried about someone, and it's only after she screws up that she slows down and tries to think things through.

To her son, Emma is the hero of the story, meant to save them all. For her, the idea of being a savior was initially too much. It was a destiny too big for someone who spent her whole life believing that she was nothing special. Later, she began to wonder if being the prophesied savior was the same thing as being a pawn in the game of good and evil. She seems encouraged by being able to use her magic to help others, and is slowly growing more comfortable with what she is. Emma tries so hard to be one of the good guys, and has a very clear sense of right and wrong, but it's hard for her to see her true potential. When she does bring up her "savior" title, it's usually either to discuss the burden of being the savior (she isn't guaranteed happiness, and she never gets a day off), or to express her guilt because she believes she hasn't done enough to bring back everyone's happy endings. Right now, she believes that her magic still isn't working after willingly giving it up to save Killian.

Based on the episode I'm taking her from, Emma is going to be furious to stuck in yet another land that separates her from her family. And when Emma is angry she is loud, rude, and could easily get violent. She is never one to shy away from confrontation, particularly where Storybrooke villains are concerned. When Regina tried to run her out of town, Emma cut down a section of one of Regina's apple trees to make a point. She did this in broad daylight, and stormed off after arguing with Regina. Even when arguing with Mr. Gold, she threatens violence and doesn't back down when he seems about ready to show her his favorite use for his cane. Anytime someone gets Emma's temper up, it can get ugly pretty quickly.

She might sound scary, but Emma is someone who anyone would want on their side if they needed help. As soon as she arrived in Storybrooke, she started doing what she could to help its inhabitants. She helped track down a coma patient (who happened to be her dad), reunited families, and even made a deal with Mr. Gold to get Cinderella out of hers. If someone needs her, she will do everything in her power to save them, whether it's her friend or her enemy. She said once that she wanted to show her son that good can win, and while Emma doesn't always 'win', she does continue to fight for everyone's safety and happiness.

Abilities/Powers: Emma is the product of true love, and as a result, is able to use magic. Initially, Emma was uncomfortable with using magic and it seemed to kick in instinctively. When Cora tried to take her heart, the woman was propelled back, and a bright light glowed in Emma's chest. She asked Gold about it, and he said that when he created the curse, he took advantage of what she was, but hadn't done anything to give her magic abilities. He encouraged her to use her magic, both showing her how to use an enchanted object, and how to put up a barrier spell. Regina has also helped her before, and has used her own knowledge from being taught by the Dark One.

While Gold was being controlled by Zelena, Regina officially became Emma's magic teacher. She quickly noticed how powerful Emma is, and was encouraging her to use and practice magic so that they could defeat the witch together. Previously, Emma was able to stop a failsafe from destroying Storybrooke, to start a fire, and to block the light of the moon with Regina's help. In the episode I'm taking her from, she will mistakenly believe that her magic is gone and will be surprised when it resurfaces in the game. Emma's magic will allow her to do any number of things (moving objects, starting and possibly using fire, defensive reformation of surfaces if she's about to fall), but in-game, I always keep it simple and only break it out when it's needed. Emma is more of a fighter than a sorceress.

Also, if you want to believe in her ability to detect lies, Emma certainly believes that’s a one of her gifts. She introduced it in the first episode as her superpower and told her newly discovered son that she could tell when people were lying. This ability is iffy at best; it doesn’t work when Emma is emotionally compromised in any way. When she was in denial about the curse, it didn’t prompt her into action when people told her the truth about Storybrooke. She believed Cora’s initial claim that she wasn’t like Regina after her arrival in the Enchanted Forest, and there are dozens of other instances where this ability failed her.

It's implied that it worked more often before because Emma had no attachments to the world and no stake in the things that were going on around her. As a bail bondsman, she was able to stay emotionally removed from work situations and because of that, could tell when people were lying to her. In a situation where Emma can stay neutral, it should work. In a situation where Emma can pick up someone's tells, it almost always works.

Look, if it sounds hit or miss, it definitely is. The bottom line is that Emma believes it's a strength for her.

All of the magic-related things aside, Emma is human and as such has a few more common strengths that would help her here. She seems to be a natural with a sword, comfortable with a gun, and when all else fails, she’s good with beating the crap out of whatever or whoever is in her way. She’s strong and athletic, resourceful, and will use whatever is around her if she’s being attacked. She's fought a pirate, a witch, an evil queen, a giant, zombies, and lost boys. Her background of chasing down criminals as a bail-bondsman should also come in handy.

If she doesn't have a plan to get what she wants, she tends to keep trying until she figures it out.

Items/Weapons: Emma will be bringing in Henry's storybook, wearing a faded peasant dress and a blue cloak, and whatever Enchanted Forest jewelry she has on.
Sample Entry: Log
Sample Entry Two: Of all the things Emma had been expected to wrap her mind around over the course of the last few months, this was somehow the most unbelievable. It had been enough of an inconvenience to have to look for Gold’s son in the first place, but then seeing who he was and realizing that the man they were looking for was the same one who had broken her heart?

That shouldn’t have been possible. It should not have happened. And he was asking a hell of a lot out of her in expecting her to understand that it was destiny at work and not his father manipulating them.

There were plenty of things she could question, plenty of things she wanted to argue over, but as she walked a few steps behind Neal and Henry while they attempted to make up for ten years of lost time, Emma was silent. She fell into stride with Gold – easy, since he hadn’t exactly been given the gift of speed, and she kept her eyes on the pair in front of them.

Henry had always looked like his father. The resemblance had been one of the first things she had recognized in the kid when he showed up on her doorstep in Boston. After moving to Storybrooke and getting to know him better, it became obvious that it wasn’t just physical. There was certain cleverness to him; an interest in planning, and scheming, and generally trying to convince people of his side of things. He was brave, and bold, and if she was being honest with herself she might have said he was all of the good parts of Neal.

That's if she was honest, which she now needed to be.

But no one was asking Emma for her opinion. They were talking about New York pizza and movies, museums, sports; normal things. Questions about the Enchanted Forest would come eventually, but as she listened, she realized that it was the kind of conversation that most parents probably had with their kids. And as much as Emma might have liked to have a place in it, there was no sense in trying.

Henry felt betrayed by her. He had every right to, because in lying to him she had risked this, even if the odds of seeing Neal again had been virtually nonexistent when the kid had asked about his father. When Emma thought of all the years she had spent searching for him, and how all of this had happened in the end…

Too much, too soon. She forced those thoughts out of her head, lowered her gaze to the pavement, and just kept walking.

[personal profile] akainu 2014-06-17 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality:
If you'd like to describe Manji with one word, the word you should choose is "stupid". Manji is, you see, not the most clever out of the people you might meet. Maybe not the dumbest either, but that's up for debate. He sure is close to the dumbest you might meet. Now, why is he an idiot? Not because he can't read or count, though that does tend to be an obstacle that gets in the way. But for one, he's incredibly simple minded, and will easily believe just about any lie that he's told, because he's so gullible. If you tell him some really sad, sappy and surrealistically impossible story, he'll easily believe it. Not that it comes with the idiocy – it comes a little with the inability to read – but Manji has absolutely no sense of direction. He easily gets lost, can't tell east from north and if he can't finds his goal, he gets frustrated and might literally flip a table. If he gets stuck in a hole, he often needs help getting out of them, because he sucks at climbing. He often runs off in random direction like he has a purpose much to Karu's frustration, and then it's not rare that he screams loudly while doing so. Because he's impatient, and can't even lie still in bed when he's badly wounded, as long as he's able to move. Which he often can even if he shouldn't be able to, because he's way too stubborn for his own good.

Manji pretty much always has this scary look in his eyes, except maybe when he's smiling brightly. Most often, if he's not actually angry which isn't most of the time, it's because he's confused. And then because it's his default expression, too. He just has those kind of eyes, really, and it upsets him, because most people get scared of him, and even animals gets scared and runs off ehen he tries to pet them, or when he simply looks at them. It makes him a bit upset, and then he looks even angrier and then he might scream in frustration or confusion. And he's pretty damn loud. But because his feelings are often written right on his face, he sucks at lying and at pretending something that's not right. It's also boring when people and animals are scared of him, because then he can't talk to them, and because of that, he likes people who are not scared of him.

Once upon a time, Manji was a body guard. Not that he doesn't think that he isn't one. Anyway, nowadays, he's feared. Most of all by people that doesn't know he's as dumb as he is. But there happens to be reason for that. Manji is strong, and really skilled with a sword. He doesn't really care who he gets hired by, but he has standards. He doesn't want to hurt kids, and he doesn't want to hurt people who are not bad, if he can help it. He has a strong sense of justice, despite being wanted for being a killer. He dislikes it when people bully those weaker than themselves, and or the elderly, or women or children, for that matter. He also likes those that shows a lot of determination, or those who protects those that are defenseless.

He pretty much only knows how to live by the sword, though, and only knows how to express himself with actions; mostly violence. He's not the kind of person who is very good with words. He's easily confused by big words or long sentences, and many times, he can't detect irony. Because of this, he easily gets either very silent from the confusion, or he gets violent. After all, he doesn't have any other things he knows how to do, and it's easy to act before thinking. All in all, he's an impulsive person, and because of that, he tends to get himself in trouble, and it's even because of that, that he managed to get himself wanted, as well as incriminated on several other occasions.

But despite his stupidity and brash attitude, he sometimes says some surprisingly clever things. He's actually pretty insightful without even noticing it. So sometimes, even his weird comments can bring something useful. He's also incredibly good at handling a sword, and is fast and strong. He's very precise in his sword handling, even if it looks rough and as unrefined as Manji himself. He can still hit right in the middle of something, with no problem. His sword is his soul and life, just like any samurai's, and he has shown his dedication to wanting to join CARD's through handing it over to Senri, while telling him this.

He hates seeing other people suffer, and if he can help it, he won't let anyone get in harms way. Most of all he wants to protect those that he likes, those that can't protect themselves, children, or those who gets in trouble or harms way despite them having done nothing wrong. Most of all it's children, though. He's very determined to do this, and it's another reason for him getting himself into trouble. He always thought that pain and/or wounds were transferred through the charm “pain pain go away” and has used it many times to make children's pain go away. He even thinks that the pain and wounds will be transferred to someone else if he touch them, and when Kal touched him and first used his powers as a “Scapegoat” to take Manji's wounds, Manji thought that it was because of the charm, and not because of Kal's powers. He doesn't like relying on that power of Kal's and on many occasions, he tells him that "these are my wounds, don't you dare taking them from me".

Abilities/Powers: Precision and skill with a sword. He's fast and he's strong.
Items/Weapons: His sword, a CARDS gun, various pieces of candy.
Sample Entry:

So, uuuh. I'm sorta lossss--[ nope ] I mean, must'a lost [ NOPE ] Uhhm... The forehead brat must've wandered off somewhere when I wasn't looking. [ NAILED IT. ] Yeah, that's right, that's what happened, yeah. He does that. [lies ]

You haven't seen him? Or the clown kid? Or the Hime-combo or Jii-san? Or anyone from CARDS, actually. I haven't seen even a trace of them anywhere, and that's a bit weird, y'know, and this's definitely not Rattle Park.

Sample Entry Two:

Manji is called an idiot, but he really can't see why. Not even when he's standing like a living question mark at a place he's unfamiliar with. He was pretty sure that he was aiming for Rattle Park, but now he wasn't there, despite being sure that he had been taking the right turns at the right places. The forehead brat would be so gleeful knowing that Manji had lost an entire old amusement park, he was sure.

It the brat showed any expressions on his face like a normal person. Sure, it might not be the easiest when it came to a doll, maybe he wasn't made to smile, just like Sattsu wasn't made to do anything but smile.

No no, that as wrong. Manji had not lost Rattle Park, Rattle Park had lost him. ”...hah?”

He scowled deeply, huffing in annoyance when he couldn't get the wrongs turned right in his mind. It was frustrating, that was for sure. To not be able to read was a problem, at least now that he needed to find books about Doll's, so that they could recreate their comrades who stopped working. But it was just so damn boring to sit down and look at all those letters that made no sense – just like it made no sense that he couldn't see anything but trees and more trees. He had to find some way of figuring out where he was. That shouldn't be that hard, right? It had already taken a few hours (actually days, but who was counting) for him to end up in the forest, so it shouldn't take too much longer to find Rattle Park, right? Not that the amusement park was anywhere close to a forest, but still, there should be no problem.

Character Name: Henry Mills
Canon: Once Upon A Time
Canon Point: End of Season 2
Background/History: Henry Mills
Previous Game History: Henry was only in Zelien for barely two months, but some events that happened to him there changed his outlook on a few things. Henry arrived on a train like everyone else did, only this time it crashed… partially due to his own mother's efforts along with other people to stop it in order to find a way to get out of the city. After he got healed by a friend of his mom's, he was shocked to find that his dad had also arrived on the same train. Neal had been believed to be dead back home, so he was overjoyed to find that that wasn't the case, and that he could be with his birth parents again.

He settled in fairly alright, restricted to staying on the floor his room was on as far as going anywhere by himself. Henry being Henry didn't exactly do that, and more than once he got scolded for going out on his own. On one such occasion, he ran into Peter Pan. In his future, Pan uses Henry and manipulates him, but this hadn't happened for Henry yet, so the only knowledge he had about Pan is that his parents told him he wasn't to be trusted. Pan, however, convinced Henry that he was going to be a hero that would save Neverland because it had already happened for Pan, that they were friends, and that his family just wanted to protect him from any risks or danger. Henry believed him and kept that from his family members. Henry also made a few friends with other kids that were his age, too. He befriended D'Artagnan and asked him and his grandpa David if they could give him sword fighting lessons.

Probably the biggest thing that had the greatest impact on Henry at Zelien was during the 28 Days Later event. The campus at Zelien was brought to London and Henry was wise enough to immediately seek out an adult… after taking a look outside, of course. He couldn't contact Neal but was able to talk to Emma, and he met up with his mom, only to find out that he wasn't able to contact Neal because he had been sent back home. The loss of his dad upset him, but he did his best not to show it too much. A group of people from Storybrooke and a few other tagalongs made their way to a safehouse after London started getting worse to be in. Whenever they came across zombies, Henry stayed in the car as he was instructed to while the fighters cleared the roads. On one such occasion, though, a zombie managed to grab him and haul him out of the car. His grandpa David killed the zombie before it could infect him, but it still left him shaken up. Ever since then, Henry's been more cautious, sticking closer to adults and not going outside on his own anymore, even after they were brought back to Zelien.

Personality: For an eleven year old kid, Henry has quite a few admirable qualities about him. However, he's not perfect. Henry very much wants to be a hero like his grandparents and birth mom. He's willing to do anything to help, wanting to prove that even though he's still just a kid, he can be useful. When he gets an idea or plan in his head, he tends to stubbornly stick to it most of the time, even if he hasn't really thought through the consequences or dangers of it. Sometimes his young naïveté also shows in these ideas.

Henry is a smart and brave kid, curious and inquisitive. He's not afraid to go places on his own even if they might be potentially dangerous, like exploring a cave or going to a big city. Getting to go on adventures, especially ones outside of Storybrooke, excite him, although he sees Storybrooke as his home and always plans on going back there when he's left it. His bravery also has led to moments of selflessness, like willing to risk harm to himself in order to help people, or offering to help someone who's injured even though the person might be frightening him. He's pretty good at using his words to twist a conversation around in order to get what he wants.

Henry has a good heart, sometimes showing a degree of maturity for someone so young. There've been times where he's able to look at things from an objective perspective, stating what the true problem is when people are playing the blame game on each other. He doesn't bear any ill will towards anyone, often being friendly, caring, and trusting even towards people he doesn't know very well unless they give him a reason to be wary of them. He's gotten upset when people have gotten hurt due to things he or his family has done. He believes there is good in everyone, even his adoptive mother who is the Evil Queen. Even after all the things she's done, he still loves her because she's still the mother who raised him and loves him. He refuses to resort to killing someone, no matter how evil they are, and refuses to let anyone he cares about to be left behind or left behind to die. There always has to be a way to save someone and no one is beyond saving, unless they're dead. He sees the world in black and white, and is quick to judge and reject anyone who does anything he feels is evil, even though he still believes its possible for them to redeem themself by doing good things. Henry has strong faith in good, believing that good will always win, and sometimes this faith dwindles when discouraging thing happen but his hope never goes away completely.

As someone who was adopted, family is also something that is extremely important to him and something that he has strong faith in. He never doubts that his family will find some way to pull through and come out on top of any situation. He's eager to get more in touch with his fairy tale family heritage like learning to sword fight and ride a horse. Family is a large reason why honesty is so important to him. For a long time, he believed that magic was real and that the people of Storybrooke were actually fairy tale characters, but his adoptive mother made him think he might be crazy and delusional, even though she knew he was right. He also used to think she didn't care about him, making his desire for a true family stronger, but doesn't think that anymore. He has conflicted feelings about magic, because it's an amazing thing that can be useful when used in a good way but it also is the cause of a lot of pain and clashing in his family when he just wants them all to get along and be happy together. He's more than willing to live without magic if it means he can be with his family. Sometimes his feelings about family have caused him to get into situations where he shows naivete, like when he was eager to prove Tamara was bad in the hopes that getting her out of the way meant his own parents might get back together, or urging David and Mary Margaret to get together when David was married to someone else.

Some other flaws Henry has are he doesn't often do as he's told when someone tells him to stay someplace safe or don't do something dangerous. Even though he hates when people hide things from him or keep him in the dark, he's also not above lying himself. Henry is willing to break quite a lot of rules in order to do what he feels is right, doing stuff that is sneaky and not quite lawful, like breaking into places and/or even stealing things. When he gets angry or upset about something, he usually doesn't yell, instead withdrawing from the person he's upset with, acting rebellious and standoffish to them and sometimes even being flippant. Henry is still a relatively normal young boy though. He enjoys doing things like playing on a playground, swinging on a rope swing, reading comic books, playing video games, and going to the arcade.
Abilities/Powers: Henry is normal human kid.
Items/Weapons: Practice sword, his Once Upon A Time storybook (the writing will disappear but I figured the pictures would still be there?), his backpack (which will be empty because I figured anything inside of it would count as another item, he'll use it to carry his book around in)

Previous Game History:

EXIT VOID

After dying at the Lucifer’s hands — or under his shoe, as is the case with this one — Dean was transported into the world of Zelien, a city run by the menacing COMPASS. He arrived there like all the new arrivals did, on a train at the station, where his adventure in Zelien started on week 3. Soon enough, he found out that he wasn’t alone in the town, nor only surrounded by strangers. Castiel, both versions of the angel were there, as was Sam. Only Cas — his Castiel, the one who had lived with him to the end of the world as a human — had been in Zelien for sometime longer, the rest of them arriving at the same time as Dean.

It didn’t take long for shit to start hitting the fan. For one, Dean mostly kept to himself in the beginning, meeting others only by accident and quickly rubbing them the wrong way. One such case was Fatima, who knew the previous Dean — though that version was an entirely different one even in the world Dean came from. They quickly butted heads as Dean learned more about her powers and realized she wasn’t exactly human, a thing that’s never sat well with him. The encounter ended with Dean pulling a gun on her, though she made her escape quickly enough and without harm.

Later, while exploring the outskirts of town, Dean ran into a run-down church. Inside he found Sam Winchester, though only to believe Sam wasn’t really Sam at all, but rather the Devil he knew from back home still using his brother as a vessel. A fight of sorts broke out because of that, though Cas stepped in at the right time, trying his best to convince Dean that who he’d attacked wasn’t actually Lucifer, but truly his brother. Dean didn’t believe it though, and instead left the scene. Not only did this cause immense tension between Cas and Dean, as Dean thought Castiel had finally chosen to switch sides, but it also drove Dean to continue the mission he’d failed back home; kill the Devil.

This all escalates sometime after, when the city is transported onto a spaceship named the Ishimura. Here, Dean tries to play it nice, helping out the rest of COMPASS’ captives and fixing the engines. It’s a little later though that things turn nasty, as the ship starts making people hallucinate. Seeing his brother everywhere, Dean’s a dangerous, half-crazed, gun-shooting individual, who eventually runs into the real Sam, only to think that he too is yet another vision. Dean shoots his brother, which kills Sam. Castiel — the angel — appears, and whisks off Sam’s body, though not without making Dean realize what he’s done.

Once things return to normal and Zelien is a small town again, Dean contacts Cas, letting him know what’s happened. By now, he’s given up on the angel-Castiel, mostly because Castiel was refusing to see him as anything beyond a monster. Which… is fairly accurate, as Dean tried to recruit him into murdering Lucifer. Either way, him and Cas (his Cas) venture into the graveyard to wait for Sam’s return. But even after Sam did come back, not all was well— understandably so, as Dean had been the one to kill his own brother. Some distance is put between them, and it’s during this time that another Dean appears in Zelien, this one of the “correct” timeline, the one who would make thing right and not die in an apocalyptic future.

All the same, days roll forward and a new type of event hits. This time with people gaining each others supernatural abilities. Dean learns how to control fire, a power Fatima normally possesses, and after figuring this out, he tries to light her on fire for being a demon-vampire-whatever, who has also grown close to his brother. Sam appears just in time to stop him though, and it’s only because of his brother that Dean backs off. It’s here that Dean is contacted by his other-self, and finds out about Lucifer being around. He figures the only way to get rid of Lucifer and Michael is by saying yes to the latter, and becoming his vessel. With a fight, maybe he can eradicate them all of Lucifer’s presence once and for all. He tells Cas of this plan, but his one and only friend refuses to follow him like he always had previously, so they part ways.

Instead of ever making it to Michael, Dean end sup getting lost in the void for an entire two weeks. Upon waking up, he’s reluctant to let those who care about him know he’s come back. Eventually though, he runs into most of those from his world, including the newly arrived Gabriel and Jo. It’s with Sam however that he comes to a sort of understanding with, as he and his brother promise each other they’ll work together from now on.

Of course, that’s until Lucifer let’s Dean in on a little secret about Sam and Lucifer’s deal; Lucifer won’t kill any of the people Sam specifically names as long as he spends time with him. Dean, naturally, sees this as Lucifer trying to curl under Sam’s skin and to get a yes out of him— and Sam going along with it. Outraged, he confronts Sam about it, sparking yet another fight. This all happens only a few days after a creepy carnival has arrived in town. Dean pays little mind, though towards the end of their stay, he finds Cas in the house of mirrors, getting affected by the hallucinations that become a warped reality through the mirrors. He drags Cas out, proving to him that he is real and that he’s come back from the void. Though a little rocky, it seems that their friendship is back on… And enough for Dean to come drunk as hell to Cas’ door sometime later, upset over the fact that Sam has once again lied to him, and that he fears things will always end up as they did back home; Sam saying yes to Lucifer.

Of course, as always, there’s no time to be upset for too long. Dean and Dean devise a plan; to trap Lucifer together so that future cannot be come true. They manage to do so by locking Sam up at the abandoned church, now knowing the Devil will come looking for him once he doesn’t show up to his normal chat-sessions. And once he does, both Deans trap him in the church, though it’s only because of Lucifer’s promise to not hurt either Dean that they manage to cut him up to the point of dying. Right as they’re doing this COMPASS launches another experiment, whisking its residents to a small town of Stephen King-esque surroundings.

Here, Dean explores a lavish but creepy hotel with Cas, is stuck in a misty swampy area with invisible monsters and Scott McCall, has a drink with Cordelia, adventures down in the sewers with IT and Sam… It’s a busy week, but no one dies. No one Dean cares about, anyway. Once home, him and Sam attempt to make up once again and this time the bond seems to stick for a longer time. Upon gaining some clues about their stay in Zelien, they both confront some of the Cultists that have gathered outside though they end up not receiving anything more than knifes their way.

After this, Zelien transforms one more time, this time become the wasteland of what used to be London after a virus has hit the world and turned most people into something called the Infected. Feeling… quite at home, Dean and Cas venture beyond the campus lines multiple times, almost ending up eaten by some stray monsters as the explore an abandoned shopping mall. Luckily though, the escape without harm. During the week or so that they’re all in London, Dean also runs into Lucifer, though their exchange is brief thanks to more Infected. He also has the pleasure of riding a car with Sheva, and eventually also one outside of the city with Cas. It’s while they’re returning later, and running out of gas that the duo runs into trouble. Finding a gas station, they go to see if there’s any leftover gas around… Of course, inside they find Infected, and a controlled situation quickly turns into anything but. Killing the monsters, they escape… But only for Dean to realize that while killing the people-turned-zombies, some of their blood has speckled over his face, onto his lips and into his mouth. It only takes a drop to turn you, so he stops— with Cas quickly realizing the situation. Only minutes on their side, Dean tells Cas that he has to leave, that he can’t go with him, and that he should put Dean out of it before he fully turns. Cas does so, and Dean dies for the first time since arriving in Zelien after dying back home.

Dean wakes up sometime later in the graveyard, back in Zelien where everything has turned back to normal again. He ventures home, a safe building picked out by himself, Cas and Sam by now. Here, finding the place empty, he tries to take all of his stuff quickly and to leave, except Cas finds him anyway and demands to know what he’s doing, how long he’s been back. Dean states that he can’t keep putting Cas through the torment that spending your life with comes with— but Cas argues back, and eventually they make up, agreeing to fight everything together again.

A few days later Dean also finds out, after an odd broadcast from Lucifer — or rather, Lucifer’s vessel Nick — that something bad has happened. Possibly to Sam. Cas confirms as much, and Dean sends a message Sam’s way, demanding to know more. Sam is reluctant with details, and before Dean can really demand for more, it’s lights out.

[personal profile] hardhearted 2014-06-18 11:19 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:

During the first season of the show, Dean is mostly portrayed as a young man with a very healthy amount of humor ready for display at any given moment. He often makes light of situations this way, no matter how futile things might appear at the given time though. As is, during the beginning of Dean's and Sam's hunting career together again, Dean is a lot more confident, outspoken and alive, in more ways than one.

As said, Dean likes to joke around a lot. He has a habit of poking fun at almost anything, always drawing comparisons between people and situations by referring to popular pop culture things and people. Even when serious, Dean isn't able to completely kick the habit, though it is during times like this that he resorts to simpler means of humor like ridiculous and insulting nicknames. As an example he often calls Uriel, an Angel, 'Junkless.'

Sam is Dean's main source of energy and it is in the earlier days that Dean truly believes himself to be capable of keeping his younger brother out of harm and serving as Sam's guardian against anything and everything. He relishes the time he gets to spend with Sam during their hunts, this being the closest to family he has at the moment. Dean doesn't like to show his weakness' though, hardly ever actually telling Sam how he feels.

It is only under crucially critical times that Dean truly opens up and this being also hardly for anyone else but Sam. Even then the information --the thoughts, feelings and whatever else is on his mind-- has to be pried out of Dean and only a few can accomplish that. He'd rather cause an awkward situation by changing the subject if confronted by a out right question about his feelings.

The first major blow to Dean's usually confident and smiley-self is when his father, John Winchester, dies. Dean's anguish over this is very, very clear though he denies any attempts made by Sam to talk about it, this thus causing him to take out his anger in a different way; killing more supernatural beings, and doing so in more brutal methods. He also lashes out more, his anger building faster as he tail-spins from everything he's feeling since the death of his father.. His judgment is clouded and the world around him seems more black and white than ever before, making hunting a lot more simpler and inhuman. Slowly though, Dean is able to come to terms with John's death, letting his older self back-- though never truly being who he was back when his father was alive.

When Dean is pulled out of Hell by Castiel, he comes back broken. There is no denying that Dean isn't as strong as he was before, his confidence having been beaten to almost a breaking point. He is a lot more careful with his decisions and a lot more protective of Sam. He is also a lot more scared; for Sam, for himself and for the world. Having experienced Hell, he does not want to let it break loose on earth, making his judgment frail, not wanting to make hasty decisions.

Still, even whilst suffering with the heavy burdens on his life, Dean tries to keep a positive appearance, though with time-- and to anyone closer to Dean, it is very obvious that he isn't all right. Ready to help people with supernatural problems, Dean tries to keep his personal feelings away from the job, and it is when faced with heavy problems that Dean tries to tune out all of his emotions; both positive and negative ones, this making him cool, calm and efficient.

With the war raging on between demons and angels, it's becoming harder and harder for Dean to just bounce back to his normal self, his character growing more tired and thus colder with each passing event.

This becomes even more apparent during the next year, once Lucifer walks free from his cage. Things happen -- bad things, that change Dean a lot. A sort of cold harshness mixed with worry and guilt over doing the right thing opposed to what he wants to do makes itself apparent in him as the decisions he and his brother make affect the very outcome of both their lives and pretty much the rest of the world. Over the course of the year, he starts to care less and less, even once hitting a point where he simply wants to give up. It's only thanks to Sam and Cas that he doesn't, but never before, really, has he hit such a low point before.

”Oh man, something is broken in you.”

Future-Dean is everything bad about Dean Winchester. He has hardened over the years since Sam walked out of his life as his little brother. He's a lot more ruthless than his past-self, has stripped away all the positive sides of his personality so that no one can find a way to get past the walls he's put up around himself.

Sam and Dean never make up after arguing once more due to the stress of their situation with the Apocalypse. Dean believes they are each others weaknesses, and so they split from traveling together. Already on a downward spiral, Dean starts his change from there, going from the man who carries the weight of the world on his shoulders but manages to still crack a smile and joke every now and then to the person we see in 2014; someone broken and cold, uncaring and ruthless in his methods.

Dean slowly shuts down -- specifically, even, choosing which parts of himself to lock away for good. The final twist, the reason there's never any turning back from his downward spiral, is because Sam says yes to the Devil. Lucifer jumps his bones which could be considered the same as Sam dying, and so the single light in Dean's life is snuffed out for good. With the world a bitter place, Dean pushes himself to the limits to adapt, tearing down and casting aside all useless emotions. His single-minded goal forms, and becomes clear; to kill the Devil. Nothing else matters after that. Yes, he runs a camp as the "fearless leader", but the sole purpose of doing so is to get close enough to Lucifer, so that he can put one between the Devil's eyes.

The few friends he has left get front row tickets to these changes, and even suffer at its hands, seeing as Dean is more than ever before all about pushing those few who still care about him away. The seriousness of how much he's not the same person as before becomes blatantly clear when Dean is ready to feed his friends into the meat grinder for a shot at completing his mission.

And he does exactly that, only briefly glancing away in what could be either annoyance or shame when confronted about his plans by his past-self.

While most of this remains true to the day, Dean has softened some during his time in Zelien. He’s still not the person he’s supposed to be if all had gone well, but Dean’s somewhat learned to appreciate the people around him, to value their worth rather than seeing them simply as a means to an end. Of course, most of the warmth he does hold is roughly guarded, and only ever comes out in slight bursts that can quickly be missed. Most of the changes he’s gone through are in his relationship with Cas — the Castiel form his world — and Sam. Cas, because as close as they’ve always been, Dean’s still kept him at arm’s length. Thanks to Zelien though, and Cas’ own development in personality and such, Dean can’t get away him bossing him around as much, and Cas keeps him grounded, keeps him human where he’d lost his humanity before, back home. They’re closer than ever, though Dean still holds their relationship as something fragile, and something he’s sure he’ll ruin sooner rather than later.

It’s the same with Sam. He’d lost Sam once before, which had quite literally broken him. With Zelien, Dean’s started healing despite all the rough times he’s been through, and he’s also learned that as much as he loves and missed Sam, his brother is his own person and Dean still has no right to control him— not even for himself, which he wants to do as a streak of selfishness.

To sum it up, Dean is still Dean— or the future version of himself, anyway. He’s healing, though he’s not quite there yet, as far as a normal, healthy person can go, not even after his time in Zelien.

Abilities/Powers:

Hunting; As said, Dean is a hunter. He knows how to track an enemy without being seen, knows how to lure them out to begin with and not blow his cover. He has nerves of steel when the situation calls for it, and he takes his job very seriously. He's been in the game for most of his life, from the moment his dad started training him for the role of a hunter.

Dean knows his job. He knows how to deal with his prey, and even if a new creature of some kind pops up, he's very good at figuring out the hows and whys of eradicating the new species. His knowledge on mythology and such is very extensive, and along the ways he has even picked up a few skills in spells himself. Fro example, he knows how to use the angel banishing spell.

He knows how to handle a hunt, from the very early stages of purely asking questions, to finally taking out whatever creature crossed his path. He can be stealthy, and come up with last-minute changes to plans that end up working out, such as a sudden to find an escape route, or change tactics on how to handle the creature he's hunting. His tactical skills often step in as well in the form of being able to read people easily, and knowing how to manipulate them into whatever role he wants them to play.

He's a con-man, able to lie and deceive his way to information that may be inaccessible to a normal person. His skills as a hunter have also lead to him being very skilled at quite a few things that wouldn't sit well with the law. He can pick locks, break into tightly secured buildings and hot-wire cars. Dean also knows how police departments and other such systems work, being able to both impersonate them and avoid them when needed with surprising ease.

Another trait picked up from his father which also plays into his life as hunter, is how well-versed he is in the skills of a mechanic. Dean used to keep his '67 Chevy Impala in top condition and has an extensive knowledge on automobiles and engines alike.

These skills all still apply to the man he is in 2014, though he has been tested in becoming the camp's leader, and thus is in charge of missions. He plans well, though, knows his enemies and is usually as prepared as can be when taking on a mission.

Weapon handling; As a hunter, Dean knows his firearms and other monster-handling equipment better than he knows most day-to-day items. From a very early age, Dean was left with the task of looking after his brother while their dad went off on a hunt. John Winchester would give his eldest son a gun and the orders to look after Sam, and to shoot first, ask later. This lead to Dean knowing how to use a gun at a very early age, and by the time he was 11, he'd built his own gun.

This also lead to Dean growing up very skilled with melee weapons, and he is also an exceptionally good shot. He is often seen with weapons such as a chromed Colt 1911, presumably a gun he got from his father, and also a Desert Eagle which is often rounded up with salt bullets. Dean also knows how to handle a sniper rifle, and a machete-- and other large knives and blades.

When all else fails, don't count him out as being uncreative, for Dean'll use just about anything as a weapon if the situation turns grim like that. This is especially the case with the way the future is rolling out, as certain day-to-day items have become rarities and sometimes getting creative is the only way to survive.

Hand-to-hand combat; When things get a little too up close and personal, or he doesn't want to hurt whoever he is fighting, Dean often goes with hand-to-hand combat. It is never revealed what kind of style he uses, but from what is seen, Dean is very skilled at subduing and disarming a person with no weapons of his own. He is also able to take on supernatural creatures this way, though they might be physically stronger than him. However, with things getting worse and worse, and him having to fight more infected people than not, it's a lot easier for Dean to simply pull a trigger than to get too close.

Torture; While in Hell, Dean was Alistair's student, and learned the skills of inflicting torture. He knows how to inflict the absolute maximum amount of pain on a person without having them die, and was hailed as a skilled torturer. Once the Croatoan virus spread and people began to lose their mind, Dean was forced to pick up this skill again in order to extract answers from those who were far more unwilling to give them. It seems that by 2014, he really has no trouble doing so either anymore.

[ to some, the angry, burning green eyes are the first thing you see when the feed clicks on, coupled with the straight lines of a hardened face glaring at the screen. it could be a familiar face even, only aged and roughed out by the harder hurdles of life. still, never before has dean probably looked this angry before.

needless to say, this constant back and forth between worlds isn’t anything he ever signed up for. ]

Whoever did this has exactly one minute to explain what's going on before I take matters into my own hands. [ that being, he starts demanding answers from whoever he runs into. and trust him, you don't want that. not when he's holding a gun in one hand that seems have been drawn from the thigh-holster wrapped around his right leg. ]

Character Name: Dante
Canon: Devil May Cry
Canon Point: Beginning of Devil May Cry 1, after meeting Trish.
Background/History: Devil May Cry 3 / Devil May Cry on the Devil May Cry Wikia
Personality:

On the offset, it seems like Dante is a guy who just doesn't give a damn.

The man gives the great impression of being carefree, the embodiment of a "devil may care" attitude.

That's because when you see shit, you just kinda want things to be simple afterwards.

Dante's always been used to complications. Just look at his family - his mother Eva and his father Sparda were something of an unholy union, and Dante himself has a twin brother named Vergil. Sparda left the family while Dante was young and this left them vulnerable, as seen when Lord of the Demon World Mundus sent some of his demons to kill them. The result was that Eva died and the two twins were separated. As a result, Dante began hunting demons, to bring himself closer to the truth of what happened and to perhaps find that son of a bitch Mundus and show him what's what. You develop an immunity to many things when your family history starts off like that. His heritage gives him near invulnerability, which makes him cocky and arrogant. He’ll fight for the thrill of it, going for whatever looks or feels cool rather than mere expediency. He’s also got a bit of a mouth to him, and will not hesitate to trashtalk his opponents.

But despite all of this, he still has a heart of gold and is a decent guy underneath. Deep deep underneath.

He regularly turns down work that he doesn’t find interesting, but at the same time he will take on jobs without payment. He’ll drink and eat unhealthily and flirt with anything that looks half pretty in a skirt. He’ll take on fairy risky work, even if he might be in danger as long as he can help someone. He has a strong code of honour and abides by it - he won’t use his strength to kill humans, he wouldn’t knowingly betray or abandon anyone. He respects promises and upholds them to the best of his ability. This is not because he sees himself as some sort of protector - no, nothing as lofty as that.

More than anything, Dante, as someone is very well aware of the natures of humans and demons, tends to side with the humans, in a similar manner that his father did. He sees that humans are unable to match demons on a physical level, but their hearts can defeat them. Human drive, heart and determination to protect things other than themselves is what affords humans their strength - as demons are selfish and greedy in this world. This doesn’t mean that he treats all demons like enemies - he will acknowledge and treat as equal those demons who turn away from their demonic nature, such as Trish, who repent and are able to change in a manner that resembles humans.

Despite his childish demeanour, Dante shows himself to be surprisingly observant and intelligent. When ascending Temen-ni-gru in Devil May Cry 3 and Mallet Island in Devil May Cry, he shows himself to be intensely aware of his surroundings and able to solve fairly complex puzzles. He’s also surprisingly persistent, but only when it’s something that he’s really into or whether he truly believes there is something at stake. When he has to be serious, he will be serious.

Abilities/Powers:

Dante's half-demon and half-human heritage means that he has the strength, athleticism and speed beyond what a natural human can achieve. This is shown in game where he can run up walls, leap from the top of buildings, destroy large stone structures and move so fast that it can seem imperceptible to the human eye. He is also gifted with an awareness for demons, and can sense spiritual energy.

Let's get one thing straight though - Dante is also from a Hideki Kamiya game, so he has "cutscene immunity" - he's been stabbed several times by his own sword and various other blades in the series and yet he's survived and overpowered his attackers in every instance because it looks cool. But generally speaking, due to his heritage, most things that would kill a normal human wouldn’t kill Dante. He could probably sleep it off. It would probably take sustained hits from something of demonic strength to really kill him off.

This strength is also doubled (-ish, or at the very least greatly increased) when Dante can access his Devil Trigger form, which also grants him instantaneous healing (though it does not make him completely invulnerable). The time he can access Devil Trigger is limited by the gauge in game, and it takes some time before it refills.

Dante has also access to Devil Arms, weapons that are formed from the souls of demons that he has slain. He can use his demonic blood to turn their power or souls into living, demonic weapons. Though I hasten to note that Rebellion is a Devil Arms, and so the demon doesn't necessarily have to be slain for a weapon to be imbued with its strength.

Dante is also just highly skilled in general. Save for his horrific gambling luck, he knows how to play the guitar VERY LOUDLY (one of his Devil Arms pretty much is a guitar) and he masters the two other Devil Arms (a nunchuck and dual blades) almost immediately, showing that he's naturally gifted in combat. He also has good taste in music.

Items/Weapons:
- His two pistols, Ebony & Ivory
- His sword, Rebellion
- If Ebony & Ivory count as one item, then a box of spicy pepperoni pizza

Sample Entry:

Uhh... I'm hella confused here.

[ Dante's put the phone to his ear like how a person would use a normal phone so all anyone would be able to see on the screen was a shot of his ear and some white hair. ]

I don't even know who the heck this is calling but there are no words on this thing, so I hope you're a chick on the other end.

[ Are there even cute girls in this place? Well, he'll hope so. He's just going to continue blabbing into the phone cause that's what you do when you're not sure where you are and are trying to get some form of assistance. ]

Anyway, if you're hearing this - I was following someone to a creepy-ass place named Mallet Island, but this place seems creepier than that. What's with the psychotic sign telling us we're safe?

[ Though really, he doesn't know whether who he's talking to will help him. It's worth a shot though. Better than wandering around in the dark. ]

It's not safe. Come on. Everything's falling apart. That's just weird.

[ And he'll actually take the phone away from his ear, look at it for a moment, unaware that the camera is getting a great shot of his face and terminate the call. ]

Sample Entry Two:

Devil May Cry, the one stop shop for all things demon hunting, wasn’t even open yet and he was getting endless calls already. He could hire a secretary to deal with them, but that was too much work and it was money he didn’t have. Plus if it was to be someone, it had to be someone cute and didn’t mind having to deal with all the demon bullshit he had to put up with.

He leaned back in his chair, looking up at the ceiling fan creaking above.

Being in this part of the city meant that the rent was cheap but he also shared space with a bunch of bars and as they were letting out - it wasn’t the noise that annoyed him, it was the fact that there would be all sorts of shit on the pavement and on his front step. Not great.

He leaned forward in his chair, putting his elbow on the desk. Dante spied the pizza box that was half open on his desk. That was a day old. He had a battle in his head, eat it or order a new one? His hand flicked the top of the box open properly and saw a quarter of a pizza left. That was totally unsatisfying for a midnight snack. Ordering a new one it is.

Dante kicked the phone on his desk, making the receiver fly in the air towards him. He stretched a hand out to grab it, put it to his ear and quickly dialled the number to the nearest pizza delivery place.

"Yo, another one of the Super Spicy Special." he drawled into the phone. "Yeah, Dante here. Same place. You know what I like. Thanks dude."

Pizza was the best food in the world, and he gave no damns that this was the middle of the night and he felt kinda sorry for the delivery man. No matter.

Character Name: Nicodemus Archleone
Canon: The Dresden Files
Canon Point: Just after Small Favor
Background/History: Background/History

Personality:

Nicodemus is, without a doubt, a truly evil character. While other villains of the series have had moral gray aspects, Nicodemus shows no such shade in his overall personality. Nicodemus is, for intensive purposes a psychopath. He is extremely intelligent, meticulous in his schemes, and typically a very careful individual when playing his hand. And even if his plans do fall through, generally he never really loses much, but gains something anyway. His thoughtful mindset does not end there. The reason Nicodemus does not have an alternate form, as all the Denarians do, is because that would allow his fallen to have a certain influence and power over him. Instead Nicodemus has Anduriel as his shadow to which he can control and Anduriel can do as it pleases. In this sense Nicodemus needs to have control over himself, and over everything he does. To not have that power would severely limit him in his schemes and overall goals. He has no tolerance for his own men in regards to using them, and he certainly has no qualms in their deaths either. He also has their tongues cut out in order to prevent them from speaking. He does this so as to limit them and their ability to form relationships with other and thus creates a cult mentality among his followers. He effectively brain washes them and takes away one of the most precious and valuable acts humans use to connect, speech. In essence his treatment of his underlings shows full well how evil, sadistic and truly horrible Nicodemus can be.

Despite once being mortal Nicodemus has hardly any remnants of such an existence. He does not love or show compassion and has no feelings of remorse towards anyone who gets in his way. He is cold, calm and utterly detached from everything that makes him human. Even though he does have a wife and a daughter, they too are part of the Order and they were probably not given a choice in taking one of the coins, which holds a fallen angel within them. His wife and himself seem to be at ends with each other though and the last time they worked together they caused the Black Plague. So it’s probably best for this family not to have any family reunions anytime soon. Nicodemus has a much better relationship with his daughter, Dierdre. It’s almost taboo actually, since they both seem to be sexually involved with one another. But in terms of how he acts around her, it's a clear juxtaposition on how he really is. Dierdre is the closest and most trusted person in Nicodemus' life and it shows in his treatment of her that of all people he would do anything to protect her even kill her if that is what it came to. Out of all the Denarians he is the most human, because he retains his physical human form and he retains his own thought process as well. Anduriel probably helps along the way, true, but most of Nicodemus' actions seem to be purely made on his own accord, which tells you something about how ruthless he is. He takes joy and amusement in torturing people, and even when he had Harry at his mercy, once Harry declined his offer to join the Order of the Blackened Denarius, Nicodemus’ demeanor towards Harry changed drastically. He no longer saw any use for Harry and therefore considered him nothing more than an item on a checklist to be scratched out. He was going to slice Harry’s neck as a sacrifice, to fulfill his spell to create a plague which would start the apocalypse. In this and the way he treats his human followers we see that Nicodemus holds some small amount of contempt towards mankind as a whole. In terms of choosing people and who he gives coins to; he focuses more on their mindsets than anything else. Should a person not live up to Nicodemus’ expectations they can consider themselves cast out and left to die without so much as a parting word. For example one of Nicodemus’ right hand men, Cassius gave up his coin in Dead Beat and since then Nicodemus has paid him little mind. Nicodemus has simply discarded him and left Cassius to rot once his use had run out and also because Cassius could not ‘keep up with the times’ as Nicodemus put it. He let the other man go and wasn’t very moved when he learned of Cassius’ death. Nicodemus is a man who is more concerned about ideals, rather than material gain, but he knows how humans work and can certainly make a deal anyone wouldn’t refuse, aside from, well Harry.

“Apocalypse is a frame of mind. A belief. A surrender to inevitability. It is a despair for the future. It is the death of hope.” This quote puts in perspective his frame of mind. In the absence of hope there is a breakdown of order, and a breakdown of order means chaos. Chaos is one of the fundamental ideas and states of being that Nicodemus tries to cause.

As with a typical villain underneath it all Nicodemus comes off as being charming, grandiose, pleasant and with some form of manners. He even goes as far to even label himself as a sociopath at one point never denying it either. His typical calm and mellow voice only fuels this image and his lack of care in the most dire of situations aids it. However there are times when he is downright vicious and his smile is said, in terms of Harry, to look like a crocodile’s. Nicodemus has also shown to enjoy pain something of a masochistic tendency but it also might be because he knows that he can’t simply die by normal means.

Nicodemus isn’t without his fears though, despite being invulnerable. The one reason as to why he tried to get Harry to join his order is because he actually fears the man. He knows and has seen the amount of damage Harry’s powers have caused and it’s for that reason that he makes an aim to either have Harry join his side (by giving him Lasciel’s coin) or simply kill Harry, which was thwarted by a Knight of the Cross named Shiro. This fear is only perpetuated even further when Harry figures out the only means of actually killing Nicodemus.

He also holds grudges, big ones, which was the reason why Nicodemus traded in Shiro for his holy sword and Harry. His grudge against the Knight of the Cross was so immense that he literally wanted nothing more than to finally kill Shiro, one of the only people to come out alive in a duel against him, and he gave up one of swords for that purpose. He holds a certain amount of contempt for his own wife as well. Given how treacherous she seems to be, such as when she steals back all eleven coins in Small Favor, it’s easy to see where Nicodemus gets some of his paranoia and overt cautiousness.

Abilities/Powers:

Nicodemus has a brilliant mind. He paces himself unlike other villains of the series, which is why he’s lasted as long as he has. Despite him not having a battle form he is still formidable with his sword expertise. Nicodemus also isn’t against keeping up with the times so where a sword would be meaningless he uses a gun instead. He’s an opportunist when all is said and done and he makes no move without careful consideration. Even how he chooses a new host for the coins he has depends on the person and their personality more than their physical prowess.

Nicodemus doesn’t possess an alternate form like all the other Denarians, this alternate form is known as battle shifting in canon. His human features remain entirely in tact when he uses his limited powers. His shadow, which is Anduriel the fallen angel that has possessed him, moves and acts on its own accord leaving no openings for Nicodemus to compromise himself. This mutual relationship is, in a sense, what helps constitute as Nicodemus’ battle shifting form. Anduriel takes a corporeal form and incapacitates its victims well away from Nicodemus to ensure that its host is well away from harm. It can also spread itself out to an enormous degree (ie: it's able to literally expand indefinitely along walls, floors, and ceilings, and in recent canon it even covers Harry in a dome like casing to try and smother him) Anduriel can also reform by pulling in the shadows of other things to regenerate itself.

Anduriel as with all the Denarians gives Nicodemus super human abilities such as: lack of aging, flight, millennia’s worth of knowledge, the ability to not be mentally compromised via telepathy or mind control, regeneration of damage done to his person (this is seen in Death Masks when Marcone fires a Gatling gun at Nicodemus and tears half his body to shreds. It takes only a fraction of a minute for him to reform his body), suppressing human magic practitioners powers like thorn manacles can do, and translating all spoken languages (including supernatural beings like ghouls – Nicodemus doesn’t demonstrate this but Harry and Lasciel do).

In the most recent book Anduriel's powers have been fleshed out a bit more. It's now stated that Anduriel is also known as being the Master of Shadows, or the spymaster of the Denarians. Its true potential is in using and obtaining information via people's shadows, as it was never meant to be a denarian that fights physically. Anduriel can zone in on a particular person's shadow and listen in on whatever that person says, it's also able to see through that person's shadow as well so writing is not an option to block it. He can basically see and hear anything within range of a living being's shadow regardless of who they are (however he has to specifically zone in on that person in order to here/see them. Most of the time however its white noise unless there's a specific target. So he can't hear every conversation going on ever, just ones being held by a certain individual that he's focused in on.) Specific beings of power can block Anduriel's presence and powers to see into others shadows, like Mab, the island of demonreach (which is protected by a powerful living spirit) and angels or other beings of light.

Nicodemus also moves faster and is stronger than a normal human being. (Seen in Small Favor where he moves in the blink of an eye to attack Harry who was a few feet away). The extent of his power is unknown however, but with the two books he’s been in this much has been demonstrated. Magically speaking he doesn’t seem to possess much of a talent for it, but he is predisposed to working heavy, powerful, plague like spells.

Nicodemus cannot be injured by conventional means. Even the holy swords which the Knights of the Cross possess only seem to affect him little. They cut him, true, but he can apparently reform his body and recover quite quickly from an attack. Bullets are the same and other magical attacks as well. However powerful enough attacks can leave him stunned and have in the past sent him flying through walls and such. He’s indestructible but when force is applied he still has weakness to being pushed back, and takes time to recover. The reason for Nicodemus’ invulnerability is because of the noose he wears around his neck. Said to be the same noose Judas Iscariot used to hang himself, this grants him immunity from any physical and magical attack. However this noose is also his greatest weakness, the only way to seemingly incapacitate and kill Nicodemus is to strangle him with said noose.

Lastly he has a few millenia’s worth of sword fighting experience and in his entire life there have only been two Knights of the Cross who have successfully escaped him and lived after a duel.

Items/Weapons: His noose, his sword, and one denarian coin specifically: Ursiel’s but if that’s allowed he’ll just have his noose and sword~

Sample Entry:

[ A man with an English accent will speak over the network. There’s not much in the way of background noise, but he’s entirely too calm about the situation. Haven was shaping up to be a rather intriguing little place. What an interesting little game this will be. ]

Tell me. As I am of an inquiring mind, having recently arrived here myself. [ And here he pauses. ] What would you do to survive here, to attain a position of power, or to protect those you care about most? What would you be willing to sacrifice to make sure that they survive for as long as possible in this place? Would you give away your riches? Your most prized possession? Perhaps even your soul?

[ He laughs at the last one, his laugh is not a kind one but it is not entirely evil either. It is a dark laugh that has seen the folly of man when asked this question far too many a time and gets amusement out of the answers received. ]

I have a proposition for all those willing to listen. You may contact me at this number and you may call me Nicodemus Archleone. I’m sure we will be doing business in the future for those willing to hear my proposal. My invitation is extended to all parties involved here. [ Why keep himself partial to the other inmates when he could possibly gain something from the rulers at hand. If he could obtain Yao’s cooperation then that would just be all the more beneficial to him. ]

That, of course, includes you as well members of the Yao Corporation. I believe we may even have a mutual understanding in some regards.

Sample Entry Two:

Haven was anything but what it’s named entailed. This place was brimming with desolation, abandonment, the utter lack of hope. It was a prefect Eden for a man like himself. True he was not on Earth anymore but that did not mean he should waste time by being too carefree here. There was always work to be done…well when it came to his work. He found it mildly fascinating to see what sort of desperation people were in here. He wanted to know what they were willing to give, to sacrifice to leave this place. He wanted to see how far some would be willing to go to bring all of this crumbling to the ground. There was no easier way to a man’s heart and soul but the promise of power and glory and a chance to obtain freedom and revenge. He had no doubts that many here would be willing to kill and destroy Yao in the blink of an eye. With the coins that was more than possible here, and it would be an interesting little struggle to see. He thrived on such manners of backstabbing and betrayal, all denarians did, but if it lead to something to be gained here that would be even more fitting. The chaos to follow would be unimaginably sweet and decadent to watch.

Humanity would never change, not unless the mindset and conditions were met. Chaos, disorder, and the apocalypse were all just a state of being, a condition of the human mind. And he would be the one to enact it here, it wouldn’t take much, it was practically done for him already. Two thousand years of watching the world grow and change and he never saw any major difference. Mistakes that were made once in the past were remade again in the future again and again. Humankind was such a hard study it seemed, and it all amounted to the fact that they were self-destructive as a race. But no matter. He would certainly enjoy his time in Haven, he felt no mistake about that fact at all. It was almost too easy to go about normal business here, but then again he has been in the business for a very, very long time.

Castiel shows up in Zelien directly after Dean's obvious death trap, pretty confused and a little disoriented. Rather than wait around for the answers to be handed out, he heads straight off to explore and gather his own recon. He meets Fatima--who he promptly almost shoots in the head. Once realizing she's a friendly (and that she knows his name), he asks about the place they're in. Unfortunately, it's new to her as well, though she mentions having been previously on a boat instead, which is how she knows Dean and thus him by extension. The first few weeks are spent trying to establish a timeline and exploring, gathering supplies and waiting for something to happen. Though Fatima had mentioned that Dean was there, Castiel never met or ran into him.

His third week is punctured by his Dean's arrival. It's more a mistake that he sees him, having gone to check the train station for any possible people from his world. Rather than embrace him, Cas tries to run away. He doesn't face Dean until much later, and it's with the news that Sam is there as well. Except this Sam is young and nowhere near who they remember Sam being. Dean's convinced that Lucifer is still wearing his brother, and Cas, having talked to the younger Winchester, knows that not to be the case. Of course, they butt heads and don't speak for a while.

This is how he finds Dean and Sam in the church, Dean ready to kill Sam outright. Castiel intervenes, and Dean gets pissed, thinking "Lucifer" has done something to Cas, has convinced him to take his side. Cas tells Dean he can shoot him instead of Sam, and somehow, it ends in Dean leaving, angry at Cas and betrayed, while Cas begins to explain to Sam what had happened in their future. In his own.

Another week almost passes by before Dean and Cas speak again.

He has to convince Dean to tell him where he is, and when they meet near the docks, they argue about Sam, the devil, and Cas choosing him over Dean. Dean isn't entirely happy with him and ends up shoving Cas into the murky water, but Castiel isn't without a fight, dragging Dean down with him. Even the swim back to the edge of the shoreline isn't enough to cool them off, and once again, they part without really speaking. Despite his conflicts with Dean, Castiel is also busy making friends and learning about some of the others in Zelien, namely a young woman by the name of Evelynn (Lone Wanderer). They click right away, both being survivors, and though Cas wants to find time in an effort to have Dean understand him, he's also very distracted by his new friendship with Evelynn. Before anything can be done, they experience their first Rift.

Rather than waking up in Zelien, they wake up on a space ship, the USG Ishimura, with a whole lot of necromorphs problems. Castiel works with some of the others to get some of the ship more functional and ends up with trapped with Isaac in one of the ducts. Needless to say, considering Isaac's claustrophobia, it's not a pretty sight. Somehow, they make it out of there though, and Castiel ends up wandering the ship, getting lost and disconnected from the others he had been with. Something causes those wandering the halls to begin experiencing mass hallucinations, which leads Cas to cutting open his own hand to begin painting angelic warding sigils all over the walls to protect himself and whoever else he might run into. Evelynn stumbles upon him just as he's convinced himself the only way to stop the angels from taking him is to open one of the airlocks, and she knocks him out with a sharp blow to the head in order to protect him.

With the trip to space over, Cas spends a lot of time to himself. He sits out on the campus, talking to those who might come by, and he explores many places. He even speaks to Evelynn about the events of the Ishimura, thanking her despite the overwhelming desire to kill himself. Throughout this week, he gets an unexpected message from Dean telling him he's at the graveyard, and Castiel immediately knows why. He doesn't know the exact details, but Sam's dead. He goes to console Dean in an effort to help him see reason, that Sam will come back despite not actually know if that's true. He's only heard the rumors. Sam does come back. Of course, seeing Dean causes him to flip, but with Cas there as the buffer, no one shoots anyone or runs away.

During the days that follow, Castiel makes a deal with a witch in an effort to further patch things up with Dean. She gives him a ring with a symbol on it in return for "a favor", one that's supposed to offer him protection and luck. It's both an apology and a rather late birthday gift for Dean. They drink, discussing Sam and the past-thems that are there, some random what-ifs. It's almost okay for a while--until Cas realizes he needs to rethink having given Dean something from a witch. Dean basically tells him to go away when he tries to take it back.

The next day, Cas learns that Lucifer has arrived to Zelien by accidentally meeting with him face to face on campus. Lucifer kills him without excessive prompting, though Cas did draw a knife on him, and he spends the next week MIA. Evelynn, of course, is worried about him and goes to find him. Dean, too, finds him at the church, and they discuss the fact Lucifer really is there, a detail Dean withheld from him when he'd tried to take the ring back. It doesn't breed trust between them, though Castiel messages Dean later to tell him that Michael is also in Zelien. Convincing Dean not to go to Michael in order to end Lucifer is difficult and doesn't entirely reach through. A little while later, Dean disappears, and Castiel goes to Sam with this information, thinking the younger Winchester might have seen him. Sam, in turn, talks to Michael, but the angel hadn't given into Dean's demand of being taken as a vessel.

In answer to that, thinking he has no one else, Castiel decides to get very, very drunk.

He even prays to the other Cas, ranting and accusing him of being the useless one. This is the moment Castiel decides that he wants to take the angel's grace, get it back and be capable of doing something. The angel refuses and renders him unconscious so he can sleep off his alcoholic stupor. He even talks to the other Dean at some point through all of this, telling him he has nothing left and he doesn't know what else to do. Dean tells him he just has to push through it and that maybe it's for the better--he hadn't deserved to be dragged down.

Eventually, things seem to even out despite Dean still missing, and within the next week, Zelien opens a carnival. He meets many new people there (Kaede and Meg), and incidentally, somewhere in the house of mirrors, he sees Dean. Cas thinks it's a hallucination at first, and considering the mirrors are picturing him with broken wings, he wouldn't necessarily be wrong. But Dean manages to convince him that he's real, that he doesn't know where he'd gone but he's back now. So, for a while things are relatively okay. Yet, Zelien has other plans for them, and they're thrown into yet another world: Jerusalem’s Lot. Cas comes to in a corn field where he has to fight for his life against possessed children. As he doesn't have a problem killing those who are intent on killing him, especially due to the circumstances of his home world. Here he meets Mindy and Cordy, both who seem opposed at his methods at first. When they make out of the cornfield, Cas splits from them and heads to the motel. On his way, he runs into Lucifer. The problem? Lucifer has somehow been rendered completely human, and Cas, rather than kill him, decides to show mercy - having experienced what Lucifer's experiencing himself - and help him. This leads to both of them opening up in different ways; Cas learns that Dean had been the one to put him in such a state and that he'd been lured into a trap. Later, he leaves him to meet up with Dean and explore, foregoing the details of having helped Lucifer recover and get as comfortable as he could possibly get in a body without any angelic power.

Back in Zelien, Castiel proposes that he, Sam, and Dean all move into one of the empty spaces in the academic building. With some prompting from Sam, they take over one of them, and as they're celebrating one night, Cas confesses that he hadn't been strong enough to follow through on their one mission: to kill the devil. Inevitably, Dean gets beyond angry with him and kicks him out. Cas spends the next week trying to forget about it, hanging out in the abandoned pool in the recreational building. Still, he refuses to allow this to interfere with whatever relationship they're beginning to rebuild, and he keeps pressing--he sends Dean several messages and eventually waits for him outside their place. They argue, of course, but they eventually reconcile. Something new between them is realized that day, and Castiel is determined not to keep secrets from Dean any longer.

After several weeks of hardly any movement from COMPASS and minor drama between the angels and the others, Zelien drops them into London circa-2002 where there's a zombie outbreak. Cas isn't so unfamiliar with this, and he takes his time exploring and gathering as much stuff as he can. He and Dean find themselves in a mall, cornered by some of the infected in a clothing store and forced to crawl into the vents to escape. Later that week, they're on another supply run when they have to stop for gas. Or try to find some. Castiel gets stuck inside the station's little store with some of the infected, and Dean, unfortunately, decides to draw them out. By the car, they're catching their breath, and it's when he realizes that he's got some of their blood in his mouth. Which, as they've learned, is all it takes to turn here. In the end, Cas has no choice but to kill him.

The next several days are a blur for him. Once back in Zelien, Castiel spends an unhealthy amount of time waiting at the graveyard, hoping Dean will come back as the others had. Unfortunately, he doesn't. He finally has to break down and tell Sam that he had to kill Dean and that Dean has yet to come back. Cas sends Dean several messages over his device, which go through. He hardly stops to think that it means Dean's still somewhere and not back home; he's too upset. He angrily drunk-texts Michael, blaming him for his own failures. He also gets incredibly drunk one night later, so drunk that he doesn't know that he's prayed to Lucifer until the archangel is there and relatively curious about his behavior. With Cas' behavior and a rather deep exchange of words, they come to an understanding of sorts, and the next morning, Cas tell Lucifer that he will try to trust him in an effort to know him better. They don't have time to discuss it as Dean turns up, threatening to leave. Somehow, Cas manages to break through and convince him they're stronger together even if they hurt each other by remaining as they are. Then, unfortunately, the buildings begin to shift and become capable of literally eating those inside them. Dean and Cas escape, making a plan to head for the jungle after snagging a tent and getting in touch with Sam. Once they make it there, everything, as it so happens, goes dark.

Personality:
Castiel is an angel of the Lord. Cliche, probably, but it sums up the whole of him to a point.

In general, he exhibits behaviors typical of his other brethren when he first makes an appearance in human form: little emotion, relatively calm, aloof. He lacks compassion in relating to humans as a group and as individuals. He doesn’t understand their lack of obedience or the feelings they express, continuously confused by their assertion of free will, and it often clashes with his perception of them as well as the orders he is given by his superiors. In fact, as little as he understands them as people, he understands objects, phrases, and references even less. Still, the moment he drags Dean from Hell and entangles himself with the Winchesters is the beginning of much change for Castiel. If anything can be said of that, he’s determined, and that determination drives much of him.

His time spent with Dean and Sam, as well as on earth, become a slow immersion of learning human culture as well as what differentiates humans from angels, what it means to be human. He’s loyal to a fault, but after some time, he confesses to Dean that he’s beginning to have doubts of his own about the orders he’s given and how he’s spending his time otherwise. Is it right or wrong? Is there more beyond a simple command? It’s a very big concept for someone like Castiel; thinking on his own, in that manner, tends to not have a happy ending. Re: Lucifer, Anna, humanity. Eventually, it causes him to rebel against heaven. Yet, it’s not his faith that’s rocked at the foundation. He still has absolute love and trust in God, admires humanity for its beauty, and in those things alone he sees conviction for his actions, though he continues to be naive as to the consequences of them. Most of this is seen later on, beyond season five, when he develops something of a god complex--in God’s absence, he feels it his responsibility to carry out retribution and punishment in an attempt to show mercy, taking back his opinion about free will and how all things must be ruled to maintain some semblance of order. His motivations become rather twisted, too full of pride, even if they are meant with the best of intentions.

Yet, it’s still a testament to how much Castiel has grown to care for the Winchesters alone and what sort of influence they have on him. While he has a more “profound bond” with Dean [ most likely due to the fact Castiel raised him from Hell and placed his mark upon him ], he has also taken considerable lessons from Sam as well. He’s learned the importance of free will and choosing, and with that has also come the realization that he has to take responsibility for the things he does--good or bad. Castiel is in constant conflict with his (more or less) angel programming and the pull of humanity, and both Sam and Dean do well to ease him through that transition rather than allow him the immediate crash course. Where Dean is the physical - habits, sarcasm, introducing Castiel to a numerous amount of “human” things [television, sex, etc.] - Sam is the mental. He shows him how to read people, offer sympathy to them to obtain the same results without overstepping boundaries that an angel might to get the same sort of information. They give him their strengths and enlighten him to the human disposition: what it means to be human, to feel, to be your own person. Though Hester claims that he’s been lost ever since he laid a hand on Dean in Hell, he’s come a long way in understanding those differences.

And despite having labeled Sam as an abomination, he views him as a very valuable friend in which he places his trust. There is absolutely nothing Castiel wouldn’t do for them, and as he’s said, he’s “more than happy to bleed for the Winchesters”.Though it's laced with sarcasm, there is truth to those words. First and foremost, however, they are his teachers and one of the greatest influences he has during his time on earth. They penetrate the defenses he builds around himself, and even through the moments he’s brainwashed by Naomi, his love for them, specifically Dean, proves to be more powerful than angelic intervention. Like countless times before, he resists killing them due to orders he's given.

Castiel, for the most part, minus the complex and the inevitable insanity he falls into in later seasons because of it, is generally composed and sure of the affection he shows to those he grows to care about. He’s pretty blind to social norms as well, seen many times in the way he constantly stares or invades a person’s personal space. His methods of interacting with others might be considered unorthodox or just plain weird, but the longer he’s on earth helps to humanize him more than many other angels. He becomes sympathetic and acquires a fondness for things he’d previously been indifferent towards as well, i.e. television and coffee.

Yet, this is a Castiel who is still, at heart, an angel. He’s still connected to heaven and still possesses hope. From the specific canon point of 05.04 (The End), this is not the case at all. Stopping the Apocalypse has become a failure; the Croatoan virus spread, and Sam agreed to become Lucifer’s vessel, upon which he doesn’t manifest any sort of relationship with him whatsoever. The world, for lack of a better explanation, had ended.

Here, Castiel’s personality differs greatly from what’s been described above. He’s human in every aspect of the word. He’s developed a taste for debauchery and decadence, drowning himself in them frequently. Daily even. Drugs, liquor, sex; anything that will give him a high, a moment’s peace isn’t off limits anymore because he doesn’t have the tolerance of an angel to keep him from fully experiencing them. It could be said he finds comfort in these things because he misses being able to separate himself from such urges, held to a higher standard than most. He doesn’t know how to cope, to adjust to what’s become of himself since “the end”, and his only friend is a rather poor example of these particular things himself. Now, he’s down-to-earth, supporting free will in the choice of ignoring what’s become of his (lack of) grace, and when he meets the past version of Dean, he labels him a ‘hippie’ because of this attitude. If the meditation circles and orgies don’t scream that specific label, nothing else will.

He later admits to Dean that he finds himself to be utterly hapless and hopeless. Powerless. There is no use for him, so ”why not”? He can’t contribute much to the efforts of the problems they face, and only because of a deep sense of devotion and loyalty to the bond he’s made with his time’s Dean has he stayed. He needs a purpose and has none. So, his faith has shifted from an entirely absent god and brothers who have left to someone who’s ultimately changed because of his sibling’s choice to invite the devil in.

Comprehension of human things are now an everyday norm for this Castiel too; he’s developed the use of slang and some references he would never have gotten (or understood) before. He still maintains an occasional sense of past behaviors and speech patterns, elaborating when necessary and sometimes cold, but his disposition is typical loose, high-induced happy, and finds amusement in things that probably aren’t meant to be funny. It could be the drugs. It could be he’s seen and been through too much to actually care about the consequences of his actions and/or words. His respect for authority continues to waver between cheeky and constant as seen with future Dean’s orders to walk in and shoot the devil despite it very likely being a trap. He’ll follow him to his death, and that speaks volumes despite Castiel’s behavior of choice post-apocalypse.

Essentially, this Castiel is very discontent and finds every way possible to avoid it. He’s lost to his humanity, lacks that drive he once possessed as an angel. And what more is there to do when the world’s gone under other than indulge to the end?

During his time in Zelien, Castiel has grown significantly in terms of purpose. He’d always felt disconnected from Dean in a way that hadn’t been natural, that hadn’t been what he’d wanted when he’d given his grace to remain on earth with him through the end. He’s learned that it’s okay to say no, to take control of the situation and not allow Dean to push him around like he had back home. It does put a lot of strain on their relationship, but Castiel is stronger for it nonetheless. There are more glimpses of that stubborn angel in him than ever before, and it’s thanks to the situations he’s had to face with the other angels being there as well as knowing Dean outside of their leader-follower roll. Still, he does what he might ask of him. Yet, this is all set within his own guidelines; he’s determined to work with Dean, not under him.

Castiel’s relationship, too, with Sam is significantly better. Where he hadn’t known what to think of him, other than feeling he had failed the youngest Winchester in some way, he’s come to understand his motives better than before. He’s also able to call him friend, and that’s something Castiel doesn’t have many of whatsoever. In retrospect, Sam’s presence has been a rather huge eye-opener to him. As has been his interactions with Lucifer. Somewhere inside him, Castiel still hates him for what he’s done to the world, but with the discussions they’ve had at length, it’s become a little easier to make a larger connection with him. That they are similar in ways he hadn’t realized is something he doesn’t want to think about because he’s not entirely sure what it might mean in the long run.

Abilities/Powers:
A list of abilities can be found here. However, with this specific canon point and given that Castiel is human, he has none of these. He’s capable of getting bones broken and must use guns and other (human) weapons to protect himself. Despite this, there does seem to be a little of his grace still intact as he could sense that past Dean was actually from a different time, even through the stupor of being high. So, a probable odd sense of perception that others might not possess. He is also fairly knowledgeable of supernatural lore, good with a gun, and even better with a knife/blade.

Items/Weapons:
→ clothes (as seen here)
→ (1) duffel containing rope, a hunting knife, (1) handgun with (1) clip, binoculars, (2) spare t-shirts
→ (1) small cannabis plant

Personality: A kid like Rin Okumura could be easily dismissed as a hotheaded youth with too much spare time on his hands. He’s as brash as he is passionate, an empathetic young man who has a slight case of tunnel vision. In some ways, he is as typical as any fifteen year old: he is noticing the other sex, his confidence is low, and he has moments when he feels as if he can do anything. He is invincible! Nothing could possibly hurt him! The world belonged to him!

Rin loves reading dramatic manga with super dramatic plot twists and engaging characters that make him cry, watching movies (like Star Wars), and listening to music (sometimes). He can (and prefers) to sleep for 10 hours a day and he has slept through class more than once. If asked to describe his study habits, he’d say something along the lines of “hands-on practical learning!” which easily means he can’t stand to be locked in a stuffy room all day long. Rin also enjoys pulling pranks on his friends, has something of a rivalry with his twin brother, and can be sarcastic when the need arises. Rin likes cooking, being outside, and he has a tendency to disobey direct orders. But like other kids his age, there are factors that help influence his actions, and events in his life that have shaped him into the individual he is becoming. Despite the fact that he is the son of Satan, Rin works hard to prove that he much more than just another half-demon. The results are usually mixed between the reactions of others and his own self confidence. He has learned to accept himself and how others view him, and focuses instead on becoming the best person he can be.

Rin has always been the odd one out. As a child, he felt ostracized from his peers because of his volatile temper. He would become vicious when angered, and his strength (impressive even at a young age), would lead others to label him as a demon and a monster.

It was difficult for him to understand the connection between his strength and their fear, but he knew that it was his actions and his power that alienated them. To him, their words were unfounded. He believed it had more to do with how he had been able to cause that much pain to his classmates and show no remorse (or sentience) while doing so. His temper as a child was as wild and unrestrained as the strength he displayed. These factors led to a small confrontation between Shiro Fujimoto and Rin, father and son, which damaged a few of his Fujimoto’s ribs and left Rin with a resolution he could attempt to stick to. After the incident, Rin decided to use his strength for something good, in emulation of his father. Try as he might to abate his initial hotheaded reactions, it was his willingness to help others (whether they wanted his help or not) which proved to be his undoing. He was too strong to be seen as human by the townspeople and he often fell into trouble by causing more destruction than needed. While Rin would feel as if there was little he could do to change the image already constructed for him, he never stopped trying to find a way to be helpful to those around him. While in middle school, he helped less and less. He skipped class and barely kept his grades up. Yet his temper remained unchanged and his attitude became more rebellious. Rin no longer cared what others thought of him as the years went by. He felt as if he should just accept that being “a cool and respectable person” just wasn’t in the cards for him. No matter how much Father Fujimoto believed in him, Rin had a hard time believing in himself.

After graduating from middle school, Rin started looking for a steady job rather than pursuing higher education. He felt that schools would be better off without his personality and he doubted that he would learn anything, or be of use to anyone while inside of a classroom. A part time job seemed to Rin like a better place to start, but he soon found out that he was unable to hold down a job. It always came back to something he had done, in one way or another.

However, after the death of his father, joining an Exorcist cram school, and coming in contact with classmates he would later consider friends, his temper was put to the test. Rin found himself smiling a little more than before as he slowly began to realize how much it meant to him to finally have close connections with others. As much as it filled him with good cheer, it also greatly frightened him. Rin could not accept that he was a demon, and he wasn’t sure how his companions would react to his parentage.

Rin tried to pull back his anger (and felt it dissipate) as he grew closer to his classmates and through his studies. Yet, he would always remember who and what he was. He feared their reaction if they ever found out that he was the son of Satan. As he grew closer to his friends from the Exorcist Cram School, the calmer he began to feel. His outbursts changed from angry declarations to childish proclamations. His conflict between hiding his parentage and protecting his friends from himself came to a peak during a fight with the Earth King, Amaimon. His relation to Satan was revealed to his classmates, and soon followed their open distrust towards him.

When he reveled himself through his fight with Amaimon, his fears were realized. His friends rejected him and, in turn, Rin decided that he would rather earn their friendship and trust again than to live life without that companionship. He knew that they were afraid of him. He had dealt with other people’s apprehension before, but he had not been close to them. While his classmates were taken away for a proper explanation of Rin's condition, Rin had been taken to a religious counsel to have his fate decided. Unwilling to bend to the will of those aging exorcists, Rin fought back with his ambitions and promised to himself to train harder so that those around him were left unharmed by his flames.

But his new resolve could not convince his companions. To them he was a dangerous creature and Rin felt their animosity more acutely than he had before.

It took a memorable trip to Kyoto to help Rin see that he was a person worthy of recognition by those who wanted his attention and that he need only to accept who he was in order to take hold of his life and find meaning within himself. As the group headed to Kyoto for their mission, Rin worked on his flame control. He was able to speak to Izumo and Shima, but the fear and anger amongst the others still lingered. Rin could hardly blame them for it, but as the mission continued, it began to grate on his nerves. He had already dealt with that behavior for most of his life. He wasn’t willing to see it repeat itself with the friends he had gained.

During the Kyoto arc, Rin did what he could to redeem himself in the eyes of his companions. While the cram school gang and the other exorcists worked on the case at hand, Rin was busy with other tasks that were (initially) much more prevalent to him. He trained every day under Shura’s surveillance, performed many menial tasks, and made sure that he was as helpful as he could be. Rin was diligent in both his training and daily interactions with the others, so much so that he was able to speak to Shima as well as Suguro’s father. For a moment he even managed to gain a semblance of control, but his joy was short lived. The trouble in the Kyoto base had reached its boiling point. Rin witnessed Suguro’s argument with his father, immediately spotting the similarities between his own final words to Father Fujimoto. Rin didn’t want anyone else to suffer the same pain he had experienced that day. Rin’s words towards Father Fujimoto haunted him, even when he tried hard to move forward.

Impulsive as always, Rin rushed forward and demanded that Suguro apologized to his father. Rin reacted with anger towards Suguro’s apparent lack of concern. He didn’t know how he could possibly say the words to make Suguro understand, so he responded in the only manner he knew how. Rin revealed his flames and charged right at Suguro, breaking right through the barrier Suguro put up. As before, his behavior only got him into trouble, yet each time it happens to him, the consequences become worse and worse.

Rin believed that after his confrontation with Amaimon, he had grown and become a better person. Yet his outburst at Suguro, his inability to control himself even when he had seemed to master it, weighed heavy on his mind. His actions towards Suguro sealed his fate, and sentenced him to death. He lost complete confidence in himself after the declaration of the sentence. Though he tried to fight against it, to prove that he could still draw his sword and help others, it was a futile effort.

It was while he was in his holding cell, waiting for the death sentence did he come to terms with what he had tried so hard to push away: that he was a demon, that he was feared for his flames, that he could not control himself even when he tried to do something good, that he was afraid of himself. He was crushed by the gravity of his situation. Within that holding cell, Rin began to believe that he did deserve to die. He asked himself “Why was I saved?” but he would have to find the answer to that question himself. Shiro’s death still haunted him. His very existence haunted him. Rin didn’t want to be a monster, he didn’t choose to be the son of Satan or to be feared or hated by all who saw what he was. As much as he wished against it, he couldn’t go against what was far too true. He was a monster. It was as he was waiting to die in that cell that he was confronted by Shiemi. Her words brought him back. She showed him that she was not afraid of him – and that she was sorry for not realizing his pain sooner. Rin accepted her apology and found some confidence in her fearlessness but he could not draw his sword. Slowly but surely it gave him the courage to continue fighting, despite his lack of self-confidence.

After a grueling battle with the Impure King, Rin regained his confidence by realizing that he had to accept who and what he was. He managed to fully control his flames and rescued those he cared about. While his fears still linger he is determined to move forward. He accepted who and what he was, the son of Satan, a monster to himself and others, but a monster who wanted to help out everyone he knew. He wants to become a much better person than he is by being true to himself, rather than parading about like something he isn’t. Rin is a half-demon. He has connections with Mephisto. He understands fear. These are the tools he uses now to better himself and help those around him, even when they are not connected to the Cram School. He’s comforted by those he surrounds himself with. Before popping into Route, Rin has finished the Seven Mysteries of True Cross mission and has given Godaiin the eyedrops he needs to stop seeing demons. But even with the eye drops, Godaiin does not take them and befriends Rin instead. Rin’s gained another friend, one close enough to the demon world to be hurt by it, but far enough that he doesn’t have to play a direct role.

Rin has many crippling insecurities. He’s afraid of losing the trust of his friends, especially during the events of the Kyoto arc. After he drew his sword and was confronted by the fact that he was truly a demon who could make his own decision how he was to be viewed, he gathered his courage and learned how to control his flames. As he encountered other missions, he delved deeper into what it meant to be a half-demon and the son of Satan, thoroughly accepting himself. He still could not believe that it had happened to him nor could he answer why he had been saved, but he knows that he wants to live his life the best way that he can.

Even though he’s living in such an impossible world, he still wants to have what any child his age would want. He wants a fun school life, after learning that even a person like him (one who has been seen as a delinquent) can learn to have a fun and normal school life. He delights at the thought of school field trips and looks forward to making a normal school friend. Rin’s happy that his cram school life doesn’t have to be his whole life. He wants friends, to participate in school festivals, to goof off and celebrate youth.

Generally, when he is in a good mood, Rin can be an easy going (if head strong) kid. He enjoys being around those he cares about and wants nothing more than to keep them safe from harm and from the harm he can (unwittingly) bring to them. When put in a bad mood, Rin still manages to focus on protecting, but he ends up doing more fighting than guarding. Around others, Rin is quiet. He listens attentively to conversations and carefully watches over his friends from a distance. At times he'll contribute and speak, usually with a question or a subtle remark. Other times, he'll offer his own brand of comic relief or a comment meant to join in a conversation. Lately he’s gotten more accustomed to joining them and takes a more active role in daily conversation. He can be sarcastic at times, at other times a joker, and a deliberate delinquent (due to his unwillingness to follow the rules since there is always another way of doing things). He's slowly become comfortable enough with a set of friends that he can easily communicate with, rather than to revert to his old habits of staying away from others. Yet when confronted by an enemy, he’ll gladly start yelling first and asking questions later. He is impolite, but not because he intends to hurt others.

Rin is supportive and very protective of those around him. He doesn't see himself as the center of attention, choosing instead to help in the background. He can take the main stage if he must, and he often does because he knows he wields far more power than his peers do. Yet, he is learning now to take a back seat instead. It is because of his strength that Rin has to remain in the background, as the group’s trump card. It is a role that Rin is more than happy to fulfill.

Before he unleashed his demonic powers, Rin felt he could not rise above the expectations others had for him. He didn't believe he could hold down a "respectable" job because of how quick he was to anger. His emotions had always been uncontrollable, and in a way he had no desire to take hold of them. Rin would have rather gone with the flow and allowed things to happen, yet at times, he would stand and hope that the best possible outcome was still within reach. He defended other people from the shadows, and was blamed in the process for starting fights with other students.

Remaining as a child would have been impossible but something he wished he could do. Being saddled with his mental burden, he focuses on other things to keep his mind off of the facts of his new life. He cooks, finds odd jobs to do around him, talks to his new friends or trains his body and his mind – anything to get him thinking of other things.

Despite his situation, Rin is an optimist, through and through. His optimism could be mistaken for childishness at times, though there is plenty of evident to peg him as a childish dork. In a rough draft of his dorm, his side of the room is littered with manga magazines and his walls are bare save for a few movie posters like the Star Wars saga. He’s into pop culture and can both name and recognize a few popular j-rock bands. He likes to have fun and avoids looking how just how dreary the world can be. He doesn’t want to live life like that. He has high hopes of becoming stronger and protecting those around him. There is just a single blemish upon his optimistic conscious: his fear. As he encounters various people and their reactions towards his relation to Satan (along with his own hatred towards his biological father) Rin seesaws between maintaining his individuality and becoming the very monster they fear. He knows that he won’t – and he is working hard to avoid that fate – but he has already lost his friends once before. And he is not willing to be lonely and afraid again.

Abilities/Powers: His Blue Flames (a hereditary trait) are kept under control through the use of the demon blade, Kurikara. Rin maintains a much better control of his flames during the later chapters as opposed to the beginning of the series. These flames are normally kept locked away when the sword is sheathed, but they will manifest in accordance to his emotions. He cannot used them offensively without the use of the sword just yet, but they can aid him in battle as a shield and an extended weapon. However when the sword is drawn (by either another person or himself) the power of the flames spiral from a soft candle glow to a burning inferno. In the beginning, the strength of that power surprised, frightened, and overwhelmed him significantly. His fear fueled the intensity of his flames and he lost hold of his mind. He can become a danger to anyone within his immediate area. It is a well known fact within their world that the Blue Flames of Satan can and will destroy anything that they come in contact with. Rin’s flames, however, do not destroy as immediately nor with the same levels of destruction. He has burned other items with his flames, such as clothing, candles, and books, but he has yet to consciously burn a person. Shiemi, a close classmate, attested to how his flames will not burn unless he truly puts his mind to it. The flames themselves do not act as a barrier between himself and attacks. They can, however, work well as a first defense between himself and other demons. The color of his flames are shared by only his biological father, and so he is treated with a sort of reverence by lesser demons. In other cases, the flames are either looked on as a thing to be feared (amongst humans) or as a calling card (for demons).

As of the most recent chapters, Rin has far better control over his flames. He no longer fears the power nor the relationship between himself and Satan. Rin has come to the conclusion that he cannot move forward without accepting who he is. With those thoughts in mind, he no longer fears his power and he can use his flames freely.

Due to his demonic parentage, Rin possesses super strength. He’s able to lift a car with no difficulty and he can stop a rampaging demon with his head, incurring no injuries to himself. As a child, his strength was just as impressive. His super strength has not diminished or increased since he drew his sword, since it has been a part of his life for such a long time. Along with his strength, he has impressive regenerative abilities. Most of his injuries are healed within minutes of the initial trauma, allowing him to continue fighting without worrying too much about his own health. While he dislikes this ability because of its monstrous implications (only a “monster” would be able to heal as quickly as he does, Rin mentions at one point), he takes full advantage of it by luring enemies to himself to keep his friends from immediate danger.

Rin can also understand demons who do not speak with human words. He cites this communication as “demon telepathy”. With lesser demons, he is able to maintain a “telepathic link” in which they can engage in a conversation. He does this so especially with Kuro, his familiar.

While it is not a labeled ability, Rin’s tail acts as his main point of weakness. He can be temporarily stopped and thoroughly disabled if his tail has been pulled.

Items/Weapons: The Koma sword (kurikara), Shiro Fujimoto’s vault key, and a hair pin given to him
by his friend, Ryuji Suguro.

Personality: Michael is the eldest of the angels, the General of the Host of Heaven, and the most loyal son of God. Above all else, it's the latter title that he views as important and strives to live up to. It's how he defines himself, and his every action is guided by his efforts to remain true to that definition. He makes decisions based not on logic or emotion, but on whether or not they are in accordance with what he believes God wants and has planned for his creations. Michael's devotion to God is so absolute that when tasked with casting out his younger brother and Heaven's most beloved angel, Lucifer, he obeyed without question or hesitation. He was the first angel, the first to serve God and the first to have faith in their Father, and it's all but certain that he'll be the last one of them to give it up.

Although he's the most devoted son any father could ask for, it comes at the cost of his ability to be a good older brother. When what's needed for the well-being of the angels runs counter to God's supposed wishes, he'll choose his Father over his siblings every time. He tells Dean that he "practically raised" Lucifer, and likens their relationship to Dean and Sam's, who are about as close to one another as siblings can be. But where Michael was once a caring authority figure to his younger brothers and sisters, he has become something of a tyrant. Lucifer's greatest crime was defiance of their Father and Michael won't allow any angel to follow in his footsteps and repeat that error. He expects unquestioning obedience of the younger angels in Heaven and sees no issue imposing harsh punishments on them should they act out of line with their orders, even to the extremes of torture and execution if he judges them necessary.

He has grown increasingly inflexible over the years. Now that God no longer resides in Heaven and no longer issues commands to him, the only directives he has to work from are those that foretell the Apocalypse, and he has become obsessed with it. Interfering with his destiny is one of the few things that can get a rise out of him: he grows furious with Lucifer when his brother suggests walking away from the Apocalypse, and he murders the angel Anna without a second thought when she tries to put a stop to it by erasing his and his brother's chosen vessels from existence.

His actions towards them may paint him as uncaring, but let it never be suggested that Michael doesn't love his siblings. He does - his fellow archangels in particular. When speaking to Dean he insists that he still loves his little brother, despite Lucifer's actions and his defiance in the face of God. Michael has simply had it impressed upon him that affection and family are secondary to obedience. If disagreeing with Him is enough to merit being thrown from Heaven for even God's favourite angel, then the rest of them can hardly expect more freedom of action. He also sees no issue in outright lying to them if makes them more compliant. Initially it's known only to the archangels and a select few high-ranking angels that God has abandoned Heaven: the rest are made to believe that the orders given out by their superiors are received directly from God. Ultimately, however, Michael feels that his handling of Heaven is in the angels' best interests. He provides the structure that they are accustomed to, and he prevents them from making the same mistake Lucifer made.

Though he falls short of showing humans the same kind of respect exhibited by the likes of Castiel, Michael's attitude towards humanity is more favourable than that of many of his brethren. He's neither openly contemptuous nor hostile towards them as angels like Zachariah and Uriel are. Outside of his vessels, he doesn't directly interact with them at all, and he keeps the other angels away from them as well. In light of what Michael is capable of doing to his own siblings, this hands-off approach to humanity is downright friendly. He's even willing to speak plainly with Dean, to explain both his motivations and his reasoning with regards to the Apocalypse to him. He simply doesn't respect Dean as an equal and dismisses his point of view. Michael is one of the oldest and most powerful entities in creation and his ego reflects that fact. To him, bending to a human's wishes would be like taking orders from a small child. They simply don't have the knowledge, experience or power that he does as an archangel.

Given the number and the nature of the titles he bears, it's no surprise that Michael shoulders a great deal of responsibility both as an older brother and as a leader. It's a position he's comfortable in, however - he is, after all, designed for the role. When God left Heaven he was quick to assume command and ensure the continued functioning of the Host. His innate need for order and structure is a boon in this capacity. Heaven's hierarchy is rigid and without exception, and Michael's presence in it is an important stabilizing factor; when he's eventually trapped in the Cage alongside Lucifer, Heaven descends into chaos.

Michael lives within the constraints of God's plan for him and consequently isn't particularly imaginative or a very creative thinker. Nonetheless, he's intelligent, and far from unable to cope with novel or unexpected situations. Concrete problems requiring concrete solutions are where he excels. When faced with Dean's stubborn refusal to take his place as his vessel, Michael finds an alternative in his half-brother Adam. It's only when faced with more abstract concepts that he flounders. Emotion in particular is a tremendous stumbling block for him. He's never been able to reconcile his love for his brother with his loyalty to God and his willingness to cast him out. He's come to see emotion as something problematic; something that clouds judgement and gets in the way of doing one's duty, and is therefore to be suppressed. When he finally faces Lucifer for their intended final battle, he's closed off and difficult to read.

One of the few emotions he still has difficulty controlling is anger. Michael is capable of maintaining a calm facade, but beneath that lies a fiery temper. He's quick to retaliate when truly offended, both in words and in actions, and there's no better way of angering him than speaking ill of his Father.

Despite his methods and his harsh treatment of others, it's important to note that Michael has the best of intentions. He's not cruel for the sake of being cruel, nor controlling because he enjoys subjugating others. He takes no pleasure in the suffering of his siblings or anyone else. All ills that he's forced to commit are necessary actions, in his mind: he's a firm believer in the end justifies the means. What God wants is more important than anything else, and if achieving it means annihilating three quarters of the Earth's population or murdering his own brother, so be it. Like any fanatic he's blind to all paths but the one presented to him by his faith. He believes that free will is merely an illusion and that any deviation from the prescribed course of events is merely a detour, just a matter of delaying the inevitable. Circumstances will eventually draw them back to the same endpoint regardless of their actions. It's most sensible for him, then, to stick to the plan and play the role God intended for him.

Abilities/Powers: Supernatural's angels - and archangels in particular - are powerful supernatural beings with a rather long list of special abilities. Accordingly, I'll be sure to seek permission from other players before using any of them against other characters, and anything large-scale would be discussed with a mod beforehand. (And he will, of course, be subject to any event-specific or location-specific limits.) If additional power caps are needed I'm happy to work them in wherever requested.

Angels get their abilities from a form of energy known as "grace." If their grace is removed, they become effectively human. Michael will arrive with his grace intact and he'll be capable of the following:

» True form/voice: Very few humans can perceive an angel's true form and voice. To those that can't, an angel appears as a blinding light. Looking upon it for only a few seconds can burn out the witness's eyes and staring for longer than that will usually lead to a quick yet agonizing death. Similarly, most humans will only perceive an angel's true voice as a painful, piercing sound. It's unlikely this will ever come into play unless Michael is forcibly evicted from his current vessel.
» Possession/vessels: Given the deadly nature of their true forms, angels must take a vessel in order to interact safely with mortal creatures. Unlike demonic possession, angels must acquire the consent of their host before taking them. Once they've settled in, though, they can usually suppress the human consciousness with ease and take total control of the body. As long as an angel inhabits their vessel, the body won't age, and they won't need food or sleep. Additionally, not all humans make suitable hosts: those that aren't strong enough will slowly break down or even explode when possessed by an angel. Being exceptionally powerful, Michael's options are exceptionally limited, and only three humans from a specific lineage have been shown to be viable options for him. Michael's current vessel, John Winchester, isn't his "true vessel," but he is of the correct bloodline and would theoretically be able to house him for an extended period of time without turning into human jerky. For these reasons, it's extremely unlikely that Michael would need or want to go body-shopping in game.
» Superstrength: Human bodies occupied by angels are supernaturally strong and durable. They can shrug off what would be fatal stab wounds to normal humans and can easily toss around larger opponents.
» Telekinesis: Pretty much what it sounds like. Angels can throw around objects and people alike without laying a finger on them. For the most part, I won't be having him take on anything larger than human-sized targets - no tossing around entire buildings.
» Telepathy/mind manipulation: Angels are able to communicate telepathically with one another. They're also able to read human minds and erase memories or implant new ones. This ability is especially one he won't be making use of unless I have permission from the other player.
» Dreamwalking: Angels can enter dreams and communicate with humans while they're sleeping. The amount of control they have over the dream is debatable, but they've been shown to be capable of disguising themselves as others within the dream.
» Healing/body manipulation: Michael can heal both himself and others, even if mortally wounded, and can bring people back from the dead at will. Angels can also reverse this power to inflict bodily harm, from removing organs to giving people cancer, and then just as easily undoing the damage. For the sake of game balance, I'll be assuming he can no longer bring people back from the dead.
» Exorcism/smiting: Angels can exorcise and kill demons simply by placing a hand on their foreheads. Michael has been shown to be able to use this ability even on other angels: he was able to burn out the angel Anna in a matter of seconds.
» Reality manipulation: Archangels can create their own pocket universes, ranging from a mere room to entire worlds, and can even trap people within them. This is a power that Michael isn't likely to make much use of, because frankly he just isn't that creative, but all the same he'll be limited to altering a medium-sized room. (I'll be honest: I just want him to be able to make his apartment look tacky and over-decorated.)
» Teleportation/flight: Angels can instantaneously teleport themselves or others from one place to another. It's implied that they do this by flying: their sudden appearances and disappearances are often accompanied by the sound of wings beating. Michael's range will be limited to in-game areas and he won't be able to fly himself home.
» Weather manipulation: Archangels have the ability to affect the weather where they appear, with effects ranging from something as simple as lowering the temperature a few degrees to summoning violent storms. I'll be limiting this to minor disruptions in his immediate area, if anything at all. (eg: the wind picking up, or a spike in temperature.)
» Time travel: Temporal manipulation will briefly incapacitate lower-ranked angels, but they can send themselves and others both forward and backwards in time. Michael's been seen to time travel without apparent strain. Again, for the sake of game balance and sanity, this is a power he won't be able to make use of.
» Supernatural perception: All varieties of angels can see demons' true faces, even when they're possessing a human host, and are able to identify a number of other supernatural creatures on sight.

In addition to his powers, he has a few notable weaknesses:

» Archangel blades: Although his vessel can be wounded and, with some effort, even killed, one of the few weapons that can kill Michael himself is an archangel blade. Each of the four archangels possesses one. Though they're hard to obtain, anyone can wield them - no supernatural inclinations or special powers required.
» Holy fire: A circle of burning holy oil can be used to contain an angel, since passing through the flames will kill them. Michael has been shown to be capable of surviving being lit up with holy fire, but it comes at a cost: it's agonizing, he'll need to repair his vessel, and it banishes him from the area for a few minutes.
» Enochian sigils: Enochian (angel language) symbols can be used against angels in a number of ways. There's an angel banishing sigil that must be drawn in blood, but will banish any angels in the area when used. There's a different set of symbols that can be drawn on walls to bar angels from entering a room or a building (blood isn't necessary for these ones). Another set of symbols, when tattooed on a person or carved into their bones, can prevent angels from locating that individual.

Items/Weapons:
- His archangel blade.
- The poor sap he's currently wearing.
- Said poor sap's clothing.

Sample Entry: A previous intro post over at Cape Kore.

Sample Entry Two:
When Michael had felt the summons, he had expected to be greeted by the sight of his true vessel with a yes waiting on the tip of his tongue. Zachariah had a reputation for getting results; he wouldn't have chosen him as his agent otherwise. Instead, his arrival met with the ashy outline of Zachariah's wings burned into the walls and floor of the Green Room and a terrified Adam Milligan huddled by the door.

This was not the smooth unfolding of destiny they had planned.

Irritated, Michael assessed the damage. He looked down at the limp sprawl of Zachariah's vessel with a great deal less sorrow and a great deal more contempt than one might have expected of a loving older sibling discovering the body of their dead brother. The truth was that his patience with Zachariah had begun with his successes and ended with his failures - and this most recent effort was a crowning failure to a disastrous set of missteps in securing Dean as his vessel. He loved his younger brother as he did all of his brothers and sisters, of course, but he also saw them all for what they were: tools, instruments of God's will. Their value to Heaven lay in their ability to play their roles. He'd long ago discovered that emotion was a poor guide. It distracted them from the directives they were intended to follow, and made fulfilling their duties that much more difficult.

Still, Zachariah had at least been loyal to him and to their Father's designs, and that unquestioning devotion was becoming increasingly difficult to find in the younger angels. The loss was regrettable. He and Raphael had been forced to become ever more forceful with the punishments they doled out, swift to correct any signs of doubt in the ranks. They had seen and were still seeing the destruction that Lucifer's defiance caused, and he couldn't even begin to imagine the chaos that would ensue if any significant number of their fellow angels decided to follow their wayward brother's example. It was his duty both to their Father and to his siblings to protect them from that corruption of their faith.

Seeing nothing he could salvage in his dead servant, Michael turned his attention to the human trapped with him. Adam possessed none of the qualities that had made Dean an ideal container for his Grace - not his sense of responsibility, nor his prowess as a hunter - save for being of the Winchester bloodline. It would have to be enough.

"So," he spoke, "You must be Adam."

He needed a vessel, and he would have one. His Father's Plan demanded it.

Character Name: Uzume
Canon: Itsuwaribito Utsuho
Canon Point: End of volume 8, plus his old Haven memories.
Background/History: Itsuwaribito Utsuho wikia | Uzume | character profile
Personality: Uzume is playful and has a bright personality, and most of the time, he can be seen smiling happily. He's easy to make happy, as he is quite the simple young man, but even for him, there are times when he gets upset. He's a person who is very honest about his feelings. When he's happy, everyone around him knows it, and when he's upset, it doesn't go unnoticed. But he's not honest with just his feelings, but his mind too. He will tell you anything, and he often tells people secrets he's supposed to keep on accident. An example of this is when Utsuho tells him that "I know what you're planning!", and he reacts in shock, revealing the entire plan in the process. It even surprised Utsuho, who is an itsuwaribito, how easy he was to trick.

While his personality is bright, his head is not. Uzume is, frankly put, very stupid. He is easy to fool, and will believe anything you say, no matter what it might be. He also likes using big words, and idioms, since Kuroha likes them, and he heard Kuroha speak them while he was being taught. The problem is, he uses them wrong, making people confused. He also says a lot of wrong words at times when it really should be quite easy to get it right. There are times when he says steep instead of speed, and plain spite instead of plain sight. This is because he was very late to learn how to speak, since he was treated like a monster, and monsters didn't speak after all.

Having been treated like a monster, as filth his entire life before, Uzume came to hate people, and think that they were only there to break. He hated everyone, and so he killed them. He didn't give them chances for them to get him to like them, because default was for them to try to stomp his heart to the ground. So before he gave them the chance to say anything, he killed them. He did however, find people who were kind to him, people he started to care for. Those people were Kuroha, Chouza and later on, Minamo. But thanks to the words of Utsuho, he starts to believe that he's worth more than he thought he was (which was nothing), and he starts to think a little better about himself. Utsuho's words starts to change his view on humans, though it is still in the very early stages of happening from the canon point he is taken.
Abilities/Powers: Other than being a strong fighter, none.
Items/Weapons: A Sansetsukon with a kama (sickle) attached. Agate drinking cup (one of the Kokonotsu). His clothes.
Sample Entry: Some threads from his former stay: One, two, three, four.
Sample Entry Two: The fight had been good. The enemy had talked mean about him, but that was something he was used to, and now that he finally knew that he was worth more than dirt, the words didn’t cut as deep anymore, though they still hurt.

Sitting in the shade of a tree, Uzume cleaned the kama on his Sansetsukon from leftover blood and grime of intestines. Next to him, Chouza was napping, Minamo resting by his side. Finishing his cleaning, he looked between the sleeping two and the lake positioned only meters away. A bright smile, bordering on a grin, makes its way onto his face, and he throws himself into the lake, fully clothed.

The water sprays over the sleeping two, and Uzume laughs at Chouza’s sputters and protests. He gives an amazed ‘oooh’ as Minamo, completely calm, states that she already knew that he would do that. The glare hidden by hair that Uzume just knew Chouza sent the kid just made Uzume laugh harder, and he fell backwards into the lake, as Chouza charged at him, complaining about how she could have warned him. Soon, they were in an all out water fight, splashing water and getting drenched to the bone. Even Minamo joined in, the water repelled by the fabric of her kimono.

Uzume heard Saiha call for them, and in front of him came Kuroha. “Hey, Kurohaaa! Come play with us!” A huge wave of water hit him from behind as he stopped to wave, and he stumbled forward. When he climbed up on his feet again, he grinned. “It’s fun!”

Character Name: Jack, or Cub 9821
Background/History:

Mankind's advancement came to an abrupt end in the year 3030, when the Earth entered a new Ice Age. The spread of the ice and the drop in global temperature was so extreme, and so sudden, that it only took ten years for the entire globe to become encased in conditions that had previously only been found at the two poles. The world that mankind had built, with all its technology and the members of its species that depended so much on comforts handed to them, was not equipped to handle such a drastic and all-encompassing change.

Wars broke out all over the world over the rapidly diminishing supplies. Panicked people pushed governments to make panicked, and therefore foolish, decisions. Nuclear weapons were deployed, and even without the encroaching ice, much of the world's population managed to wipe itself out. Those that survived were predominantly from cultures who were used to extreme cold - such as Inuit - although there were some exceptions.

The world has now been enveloped in the current Ice Age for 825 years, and the civilization of now would barely be recognizable to the civilization which had nearly wiped itself out several centuries ago. Some technology did, of course, survive and has been expanded upon and developed since. However, due to the nature of the conditions that had to be lived in, technology to do with heating, assisting in growing food, transportation, and military weapons all became much more important than trivial entertainments. This means that although amazing leaps have been made in creating heating by using water power, very few people will even have heard of the ancient invention of a television or radio.

As passage across the frozen wastelands is gruelling and arduous, travel between different settlements is infrequent and usually only done by traders, or during a military campaign. War is still quite common, though on a much smaller scale, for reasons such as one settlement beginning to run low on supplies and attacking another to remedy this. There have been several attempts by one band or another to unite the different settlements under a common ruler - either a government, monarchy, or military state, but none have been successful for long, and so the world remains fractured in an unending Ice Age.

Just as humankind used to train falcons to fetch rabbits, dogs to aid in the hunt, or horses to ride on, now they train other animals - or some do. The settlements are split in opinion as to whether to fish for themselves, rely on their own feet and wits for travel and battle, and let the animals live natural lives. Or whether to use the animals to do all of these tasks and more. In the settlements that are pro-using animals, arctic foxes, penguins, and seals are often used to hunt small prey, like arctic hare or fish. And larger animals, such as the polar bear, are used for riding or military campaign.

Necessity breeds invention, and the combined necessity of needing to tame the wild polar bear, and the danger posed by trying to do so, bred the invention of the L.A.O.C. (or the Language And Obedience Chip). This is an implant which allows the creature to speak and understand human language, and forces obedience by releasing electric shock pulses through the creature if it displays negative behaviour. As these chips were tricky to manufacture on a widespread scale, due to general conditions, these are not common. They are generally only used for polar bears who are being used for military purposes, so that they can follow orders and take a role more advanced than simply transportation. This means that even though some animals can talk through a technological addition, it's still not a common sight.

In the last ten years, another group has risen up to try and unite the settlements and proclaim themselves a government. They are trying to achieve this through a vicious and brutal conquering campaign, meaning the need for military defences and attack capabilities are at an all time high.

A male polar bear cub, one of a multiple birth of three cubs, was born in a standard nesting den in a very standard way. The first seven months of his life were spent living the natural life of a wild polar bear. He was cared for by his mother, started to learn how to travel on the ice, swim, and hunt, and played with his den mate. At seven and half months old, he was captured by party of humans who had come out onto the ice specifically to gather polar bear cubs. He and one of his den mates were both captured and transported to a settlement for training. His den mate was taken to a different part of the settlement to be trained as a bear for riding and carrying loads, and he was given the L.A.O.C. to be trained as a military bear. His official title is Cub 9821, but he was nicknamed Jack by his handler.

His life became very one sided, and even with the implant to make sure he could understand and communicate with his handler and other human beings, he was still very much just an animal to be trained. This meant that he was either in combat training, learning how to communicate efficiently, eating, or resting. His particular handler, a man in his fifties called Tomas, has always been kind to him and has tried to train him using reward techniques instead of punishments. It is largely because of this approach of kindness that Jack has gained a fondness and loyalty for his handler, and for humans in general, which is missing in many of his fellows. However, not all humans are kind or care about their animal charges, and so Jack has also learned that humans are also to be respected, and sometimes feared.

In most circumstances, military bears are not supposed to see combat until they reach near their full size at around eight years old. However, Jack saw combat near the end of his second year, this was due to him being 'owned' by the group who are attempting to conquer the other settlements to bring them all under one rule. Needing to use all the resources at their disposal in many raids, or conquering attempts, many cubs were used when they were far too young and small to be of much help on the battlefield. One of the reasons this particular group is being so strongly opposed, is because of their ruthlessness towards both humans and animals, although Jack doesn't know enough to realize he's working for the 'bad guys'.

Jack has since been used in two further battles and is now almost three years old.

Personality:

Despite his later circumstances, Jack was born and raised for the first few months of his life as a wild bear. This means that he still retains a lot of his natural instincts and behaviour that his mother taught to him and his den mates, especially as only a couple of years have passed since he was in the wild and so his memory of that time has not been too dimmed. However, the upbringing by his handler was very different, and taught him to be disciplined and sometimes go against his instincts (such as to protect his handler above protecting himself). As he is still relatively fresh from the wild, and his training is far from complete, he is often torn between these two different influences on his life.

This has led to him having a shy and unsure nature, where he often second guesses his reactions and actions. He is still learning how to balance the instincts he has inside him and the lessons his mother imparted, with the life that he has now. In part because of this self doubt, and because he is used to having someone looking out for him and teaching him - be it his mother or his handler - he is very quick to look to others for reassurance and orders. He will naturally take a more submissive role and accept the guidance and orders of the people around him. This doesn't mean that he has no ability to think for himself, or that he is incapable of making a decision on his own if he has to. The shyness and self doubt are partially due to his young age and not yet having found the balance to truly gain a proper sense of self, and as he grows then he will naturally become more confident.

He is still very much a cub, and that brings with it an element of childishness. Although this is tempered slightly by his experiences as a military bear, the influence of a kind handler has allowed him to retain an element of innocence and playfulness. He is still learning about the world, and his own place in it, this is especially evident when it comes to his L.A.O.C.. His vocabulary is quite limited, and most aspects of human culture outside of his tiny slice of experience remain alien to him. But he is eager to learn, and to please those around him, so he will naturally try and expand his knowledge as much as he can.

Being a part of the military has obviously had a huge impact on Jack's personality - without it, he would be just another wild polar bear out on the ice, catching seals and living a natural existence. But that is not his life, and being exclusively raised by humans for the majority of his life has left him partially domesticated and even slightly humanized in behaviour.

His natural desire to look for someone to guide him, has been significantly increased due to his military training. Following orders and keeping rigid discipline are two of the cornerstones of his existence now and, as such, he does best when he has a routine to abide by and orders to fulfil. His life has been very structured and ordered, with set times to do set activities, and so being free (to a certain extent) within Haven will likely be disorienting and confusing to him.

Finally, being exposed to combat situations has taken a toll on him. Natural combat, or hunting on the ice, are instinctive to him and so do not bother him at all. However, the type of combat which is human dominated, with weapons, where humans and bears seemed to be killing one another for no real purpose, is decidedly unnatural. He has been trained to protect his handler, and other human soldiers in general, and that not doing so means failure and potential punishment. This means that seeing humans getting hurt is particularly distressing, not because he cares about them personally, but because it's been instilled into him that this is an unacceptable outcome. He is lucky enough not to have been severely injured during any of his three combat situations, though he does not have a scar over one eye, but the three combat situations he has been in have left other impressions.

He has a fear of seeing humans getting injured, and will become visibly agitated if he smells fresh blood on any of them or is unable to protect them in a combat situation. In addition, because he is still much too young to have been used effectively, his own survival instincts have made him afraid of combat in general. This is because most enemy bears are full grown, and most humans have weapons, meaning he is constantly aware that he is the most vulnerable or weak in the battle.

The most important relationship to discuss in relation to the shaping of Jack's personality, is definitely the one with his handler, Tomas. Tomas is a kind man, and approached his training with Jack in a fashion intended to breed loyalty rather than fear. This means that he was rewarded for performing actions correctly more often than he was punished for getting things wrong. This kindness has imprinted itself to Jack, who also has a naturally kind and eager to please disposition, as he has learned that pleasing people gets him rewards. This kindness has also helped create a bond between Jack and Tomas, evoking feelings of genuine attachment and fondness, especially as Tomas is now the closest thing that Jack has to a parent. As an extension of this bond with Tomas, and the loyalty that he feels both because of the kindness shown to him and his training to obey humans, he is generally docile and eager to please with most people.

Tomas's kindness is also what has led to Jack being able to retain a little of his childish playfulness, instead of becoming a single-minded weapon. He does not often play, as he is aware of the need to be disciplined, but sometimes it bubbles out. As Tomas is his primary care giver, his handler, his instructor, and his parent figure, this relationship is also one of dependence. Tomas is Jack's security net, and a large chunk of his stability and safety stem from his constant presence. Not having him around will be frightening and confusing, and likely to make Jack latch onto someone as similar as possible in an attempt to regain his equilibrium.

His relationship to the few other humans that he knows has given him a wariness and respectful fear of mankind. He has seen other trainers who treat their bears strictly, using the electric shock option of punishment instead of the kindness of Tomas. He has seen how ruthless that they can be when attacking their own. And he has been taught that they are the superior species - he is there to serve them, a trained animal and not an equal, all of which has bred a definite wariness. If he had not had a kind handler as his primary interaction with humankind, he could easily have become hate-filled, desperate, and vicious; and so the relationship he shares with Tomas is of extreme significance to his development and the overall shaping of his personality.
