APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED! The next application opening date is Friday 16th January, 7pm EST. The next application processing date is Friday 23rd January, 7pm EST.
IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE
We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.
In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.
You may apply for two characters every application round, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.
Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.
If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.
Applications are open on a monthly cycle, where they will be opened on the second Friday of every month for a week, and then processed on the third Friday of the month, before being closed again.
We now have a test drive community at haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old. As of November 22nd 2014, samples cannot be "where am I" intro posts. The reason for this is that we often find it hard to gauge characterization from those, as most people when immediately in a new surrounding are confused or frightened.
While we encourage players who have dropped to re-join us, we do not encourage the continual rapid dropping and re-apping of the same character in a short time period. You are welcome to request specific housing, and all attempts will be made to accommodate that request, but it may not always be possible.
[ after a long and extensive search of the area, milla is confused about her whereabouts. it's as if they are all trapped here for no reason at all. could it be because of exodus? it couldn't be gaius and muzet, after all, gaius did ask for them to come meet him and gave them the means to. none of this made any sense at all. ]
Greetings denizens of this place, I have a question for you all. One that I've been wondering ever since I arrived here. Why are we taken from all walks of life and placed here for seemingly no reason at all? There must be an explanation.
[ she recalls the barrier when she went exploring and wonders why there is a need to trap them all here.. for what purpose? ]
I would like an answer as soon as possible.
[ her voice is serious and her words are to the point. milla is trying to figure out a way to leave this place and return to the dimensional breach and finish what she started. she has no time for detours, especially not one as long as this.
the feed is cut off. ]
Sample Entry Two:
The last thing she remembers is entering the Temporal Crossroads, ready to face Gaius and Muzet in their final battle. Then suddenly there was nothing. No pull, no push, just darkness and the sudden shock of waking up in a place unknown. Her first instinct was to get up, to check her surroundings. However the place was completely unfamiliar to her, and there was no one around. It felt like a ghost town and none of her party members were in sight. Milla decided to refrain from trying to summon The Four and instead remained quiet as she examined the area. If she did find someone she would immediately ask them questions and find the answers she desired. She would also remain cautious however, because something felt very wrong about this place.
The more she searched, the less she could find. No places with any records - not even a library to check. Which was extremely strange, because usually human towns have at least some kind of written records of past events or important history. However Milla could find nothing, and her situation was getting progressively worse. What if in this time Gaius and Muzet do what they set out to do? What if Milla fails her duty as Maxwell and cannot stop them? No, she can't think like that. She is better than that. She has people whom she will not let down, and so she must continue to push forward. So Milla never relents in finding more about her whereabouts while simultaneously keeping her guard up. With sword in hand she would find her way back to the Temporal Crossroads and she would meet up with everyone else. No matter what, Milla Maxwell would make this happen.
Personality: Kotarou is not named Koutarou yet, that will come later, after the death of his mother. For simplicity’s sake, however, I will still go with Kotarou in this section. I will call his brother Shirasu, which is the name the older twin gets by the Kumou siblings later on.
Kotarou has very little experience in dealing with people. Because he has been hidden in the cave for pretty much his entire life, he has met very few people, and seen very little.
There are many things that he does not yet know of, since he has seen so little of the outside world. He knows trees, birds, water and caves, but he doesn’t know what a house looks like, or even what a stove looks like. Things that should be obvious, even during his own time period, can be a big mystery for the coung, sheltered boy. He likes to learn, but he is wary of knowing, because he doesn’t know what the knowledge will bring. Even more he is wary of sharing what he knows, even if he will silently listen in secret to any piece of information that he can get hold of.
He is wary about people knowing. Since twins are called “taboo” within the Fuuma, he doesn’t want anyone to know that he is a younger twin. It means that he should have been killed, after all, and he’s still alive. Not knowing much about how people act, what with only ever knowing his family until just recently (like, half an hour ago recently) he doesn’t know what to expect from them. He hides from the villagers because they will figure out his identity as a taboo child, and thus expects people to just know that he is one. As if it’s written on his face or somthing. And in a way, it sort of is, in the Fuuma village, since his face is identical to that of his brother’s.
He has very conflicting feelings about darkness. One the one hand, he grew up in it, so there is nothing that he is so familiar with as darkness and most often damp darkness, considering the air in the cave he grew up in. But at the same time, darkness is a prsin which he can never truly escape. Darkness gives him too much time to think, and he likes keeping himself busy in the form of training with his brother. Because when he trains, he thinks about dark things, such as the reason why he’s still alive. He just can’t understand it; if he had to live his entire life hidden in a cave, wouldn’t it have been better to just kill him from the start? He wishes that he had been killed as a baby, because thn he wouldn’t have had to stay like this; out of everyone’s sight, with no future and with the fear of dying without anyone ever knowing who he is. Because no one knowing is the same as not existing, right? That is what it seems like from observing his mother. She treats him gently, kindly, and he loves her dearly, but she’s making him live life he want to get out of. She keeps him hidden so no one will know, so no one will realize who he is and so no one will remember there ever being a second child. The darkness also makes him scared of being abandoned. He doesn’t think his brother will abandon him, he trusts Shirasu too much to think so, but he’s still scared of it. Scared that one day, his brother and his mother will tire of the boy living in a cave, so dependant on others. Being alone scares him, even if he dislikes letting his feelings and thoughts show on his face. He seems to be a very serious boy, and it's not that he isn't. He just doesn't bother with feelings on many occations; if they turn out to be inconvenient, he does his best to shut them off. He doesn't like showing his feelings to others than his brother, and will rather hide his feelings until he is completely alone, rather than showing them to someone he doesn't fully trust.
His eyes works well in darkness, and it’s easier for him to navigate in darkness by sound than it is in bright light. He might not have holed up completely, what with sneaking off to train by a pond. His senses has sharpened from his way of living, and he functions better in the darkness than he does in thel light.
Yet, he is fond of thel ight, because it forces the dark thoughts that occupies his mind out, the likes the light. It is warm, and it is welcoming, and the scent is much nicer, even if it rains. Anything is better than being holed up in the cave. Yet, he is a bit less sharp in the light, because he’s less used to it. But he doesn’t want that to stop him in any way, because being away from the darkness is always relaxing.
He works hard, but he has little opportunity to actually spar. His brother can’t be away from the village too much, and his mother doesn’t want him to be a shinobi. His only sparring partner is his brother, whom Kotarou states has talent. Shirasu doesn’t particularly agree, but Kotarou is still convinced that his brother is a true shinobi, strong and fast and aglie and immensley skilled despite his young age. At least Kotarou’s become good at swimming thanks to falling into the pond so often, courtesy of his older brother. On the other hand, Kotarou has developed his own way of fighting. As he considers himself inferior in skill, he waits for his opponent to let down their guard, and then strikes where it hurts the most.
“You are me.”
“You are also me.”
Kotarou and Shirasu are each other’s best friends. They’re a pair of twins who areincredibly close, and Kotarou relies wholeheartedly on his older brother. He doesn’t even trust their mother to that extent. With identical faces, they are like carbon copies, but Kotarou is just that. A copy. At ledast according to himself, to some degree. His brother is the free one, who can live the life of a true shinobi, which Kotarou is certain he himself will never experience. At the same time, Kotarou has the love of their mother, which Shirasu can only hope to feel once again. They share everything with each other; thoughts and dreams and anything else they can possibly share. They live their lives through each other, one pretending they can be a shinobi through the other, and one seeping up what love from their mother that is possible, through the other.
Despite wondering just what his mother's feelings stand towards him, he loves her a lot. She has cared for him all this while, after all, and he might not like being hidden, but he knows it's for her sake, too. When someone tries to hurt her, he desperately tries to protect her, even when he knows that he's weak and unable to do anything. He even ends up with severe burns over half his body and face when he tries to save her. But he also feels weak, thinking that he is unable to protect. He doesn't have the skill or the strength to protect, no matter how much he wants to.
Abilities/Powers: Sharp senses (sharper in the dark) and skills as a ninja. Items/Weapons: ninja weapons, kitsune mask, katana Sample Entry:one and two and three Sample Entry Two:Here's a thread.
Character Name: Loki Laufeyson Canon: Marvel 616 Canon Point: After Young Avengers Style > Substance and early Loki: Agent of Asgard Background/History: → Background → But most of where I am taking Loki from starts with his rebirth
Personality: Loki is a complex creature whose personality is the union of an echo of the old Loki and his child self prior to the echo tricking the child into erasing himself so that he could take the boy’s body over, incidentally taking over the good name that the boy had tried so hard to carve out for his new incarnation as well. Towards the end of his life Loki was feeling trapped by fate, by design, that he was destined to be nothing more than Loki—the villain of the story, unable to control his own fate. This rebirth has given him a chance to polish his brand new and stolen reputation to a shine.
So, even though Loki has been given this brand new existence, it is a tainted, one built upon a lie. Speaking of lies, this is the God of Mischief’s key, defining trait—Loki lies. He cannot be trusted, at least not entirely, to do the right thing, even though he has been shown defying this aspect of his nature with his “conscience.” His conscience being the spirit of his younger self haunting him, reminding him that he’s one slip up, one evil scheme, one horrible lie away from falling into the trap of his own fate. So between the memories of his old self, the child that he once was, and the desire to become something entirely different we have this new Loki.
So, how does this Loki differ from his past incarnations, well he does so in a number of ways. For starters he’s not the jealous, living in his brother’s shadow, type that he once was, Loki actually enjoys a relationship with Thor that is healthy thanks to kid Loki. Thanks to his child self he aspires to the trust and affection of his brother and kid Loki managed to attain it quite genuinely. Loki, in his present state, is tumultuously trying to keep it and he can only do so through dishonest means, for he cannot tell Thor that the child he knew had been erased so that he could take over and become a new Loki. It all goes back to the foundations of his existence being a lie even though he does his best to foster a good relationships with Thor, with the All-Mother, and with certain hero types on Midgard.
One thing that hasn’t changed about Loki is his desire for self-preservation, or the preservation of his new self. To this end he is not above and beyond a little bit of mischief, a dash of chaos, and when the Avengers were all set and ready to attack him, a few carefully woven words from his tricky mouth had them fighting against one another long enough for him to hack the S.H.I.E.L.D. database for information. So when misdirection serves its purpose, especially in the interest of self-preservation, he will use it. Another part of this desire for self-preservation comes from his refusal to rely solely on sorcery to solve his problems, even though he could probably magic himself out of most situations, he is concerned that he’ll fall too deeply into his old ways, forever in chains, with every thought burning. Basically he wants to protect himself from stepping into a role he doesn’t want to step into again, or to prolong it as long as he can manage, the God of Evil. He claimed that he would rather take Hawkeye’s arrow to the face every time than to step back into that role again, so he is more cautious with his magic.
Loki also differs from his previous incarnation due to his growing appreciation for Midgard, also perpetuated by kid Loki. Whereas the old Loki’s interest in Earth couldn’t possibly go anywhere beyond wanting to mess with it and the inhabitants of it because it was a world that Thor loved, this new Loki has found some value in it. The songs he once despised, he’s finding magic in, the technology is also fascinating to him, he has made friends—or the approximation thereof—on Earth, and finally the bacon. He is hopelessly obsessed with breakfast meats. Also, for the Young Avengers and their friends he foot the bill for their new year’s bash in spite of the fact that he didn’t personally attend.
Of course the reason Loki did not personally attend was due to his angst issues and resentment to a certain degree, which he does have. Loki’s resentment stems from the fact that he feels that people who do the dirty work don’t get enough credit, even if he was partially responsible for the things that happened in Young Avengers. He also knew that if he stayed, his new “friends” would only end up forgiving him, and he didn’t want to give them the chance to—whether he is being petty or feels as though he doesn’t deserve it is up for debate. It could very well be the leftover feelings from kid Loki as well, the child where no matter what he did or how hard he tried he would mess something up somewhere along the way. Viewed for his faults and not for his good intentions, seen as Loki, the God of Evil, and not for whom he was trying to be.
Loki is constantly at odds with himself. With his desire to change and this feeling that he is destined to be Loki and in spite of some of the good that he does, that doesn’t dismiss the fact that he has also done some pretty bad things as well. When he first joined the Young Avengers he manipulated Teddy and Billy’s feelings in an effort to convince Billy to loan him his power so that he could be the only one to live and escape. Once he got what he wanted he did run away, which is a testament to what lurks beneath his surface, but with some “conscience” talk from his child self he returned to help indicating that he can and does feel guilt and responsibility in his new body to some degree. He continues to feel guilty about what he did to his Leah construct, his best friend, even though it was really kid Loki who sent her to the distant past under pressure from his Echo.
So clearly Loki is this dynamic individual, constantly at war with what he’s trying to be and what he used to be. On top of all of that he still enjoys mischief, he enjoys being whimsical, he likes a good banter, he can be playful and downright amiable when the mood strikes. He’s also not beneath being slapstick and sarcastic if need be, though now that he’s grown he’s a little less slapstick. There is also a side of Loki that can be charming and gentle at the best of moments, such as when he was speed dating Verity, he was able to sympathize with her lie seeing curse—even though he couldn’t promise not to lie to her personally.
o Superhuman strength: Loki possesses superhuman strength, surpassing that of the average Asgardian male. He can potentially lift up to 50 tons. o Superhuman durability: Loki’s ability to withstand wear, pressure, and damage, far exceeds normal human capabilities. He also has a heightened resistance to the elements, particularly the cold. o Superhuman stamina: He possesses superhuman levels of stamina due to his Frost Giant heritage and metabolism. o Longevity: Loki, like all other Asgardians, ages at a far slower rate than human beings enabling him to live for thousands of years. He is not immune to aging, or even death, it just comes much slower for him and his people. o Healing factor: While Loki has superhuman durability he can be injured, but he can recover from his injuries at an accelerated rate. He can even reattach limbs if necessary. o All-tongue: enables those who hear the Asgardia language to hear it in their own language. o Hacking skills: Since Loki has become acquainted with, and fascinated with, modern technology; he has learned to hack it. He’s even hacked into SHIELD databases. o Lip reading: He can read lips. o Combat skills: He can hold his own in a fight, as an Asgardian inhabitant he was taught the nuances of battle, and while he might be prone to using magic he can wield a weapon. He’s shown fighting Sigurd quite expertly with a sword while balancing on a clothes line. o Intelligent: He has genius level intellect, a quick study, able to learn new concepts in a single night as a child, as an adult it takes even less time. When it comes to the arcane he is basically a veritable encyclopedia.
→ Magical: When it comes to magic, this version of Loki is reluctant to overuse this ability due to the fact that he is concerned about reverting back to his old self.
o Illusions: Loki is a master of illusions, able to fool the senses or plant false ideas into the minds of others in a variety of ways.
• Glamour: it’s a sub form of illusion that he officially titles glamour in which he can make things appear like something like. In Young Avengers he made Taxi cards look like I.D. cards so that he and the other Young Avengers could get into a club and so that he could drink wine. Apparently his illusion was able to convince the people at the club that he had a growth defect.
o Shape-shifting: Loki has been shown to take on a variety of forms, stating in Agent of Asgard that he can turn himself into anything as long as it’s him. In AoA he’s taken the form of a woman and he’s also taken the form of an anthropomorphic fox. o Sorcery: While in YA and AoA Loki doesn’t rely on heavy use of sorcery he is capable of using it to varying and multiple purposes. Supplementing his physical abilities, summoning, moving objects, teleporting, steeping objects with magical properties for as long as he maintains the spell, and much more.
→ Gram:
o Can pierce lies with truth magic. o It can force possessed corruption out of individuals such as when Thor was possessed by the evil malice of Loki’s former self. o Because the sword is a sword of truth the amount of pain and damage is equivalent to the lie being told. o If an individual is under telepathic influence the sword can free them as the influence is untrue. o It can also act as a normal sword and can deal damage thus.
Items/Weapons: → His coat made from thread stolen from Svartalfheim. AKA a vanishing cloak. → Gram: Sword of Truth. → Seven League Boots, capable of running up any impossible surfaces.
Previous Game History: Taking history from asgardeventide:
Gon, who was not in Asgard for long, had different experiences that altered his development slightly. Having had been thrown from one war to another, Gon found more of a priority to get back home. When he was in Asgard, it was only after he had found out that his friend had been altered and killed, turned into a zombie-like state. Having protected people from a dragon attack, and even hallucinations making people see what they feared the most, Gon did his best to assist others. He made a few friends whom he considered close quickly, and attempted to protect them. While it is his nature to help others in trouble, Gon also found that he wanted to try to make up for what had happened to his friend back at home.
The hallucinations, as said, was something that made others see things they feared the most. For example, the death of a loved one, or their worst enemy appearing in Asgard. For Gon, it was the death of his friends, and both his worst enemy back in Asgard. The hallucinations gradually became worst throughout the three days they occurred, and eventually they became vivid enough to where they felt, saw, and were involved in the hallucinations in every way possible. However, Gon saw his best friend as his worst enemy, and by accident, murdered him. Through that, Gon has vowed to further become stronger in any form possible, as to not ever make a mistake like that ever again.
He is still the same Gon, and will be more light-hearted due to resolutions occurring in canon in comparison to how he acted in previous roleplay games, but his Asgard development will still effect him. Personality: Gon is many things. He’s dangerous, to an extent that others call him a monster, however he’s also carries all of the personality traits of a “shonen hero”. He’s friendly and accepting to a fault, he’s loyal to his friends, and he does everything in his powers to become stronger and win against any opponent that he faces. He’s curious, adventurous, and courageous. As an enhancer (a type of nen user, which is a power unique in the Hunter x Hunter universe), Gon is both simple minded and determined.
Gon Freecss is a boy that seeks adventure. In the beginning of the series, after catching the legendary fish of the lake at Wale Island, he immediately sets off to take the Hunter Exam. This exam is known to be extremely dangerous, to the point where many can die during it. However, Gon takes the exam without hesitation. With that said, he’s courageous to a fault. Gon faces life and death situations with a great amount of confidence, and without fear of his own death. There are many times in the series where he’s extremely reckless with his own life, to the point where he’s almost died in some of his fights.
His vision of what’s right and wrong are morally grey. His Father had abandoned him at a very young age to become a hunter. Despite that, Gon wants to follow in his Father, Ging’s footsteps, and become a hunter himself. Even after becoming a hunter, Gon decides to follow his father, and holds no grudge against him for what he has done. He has also befriended an assassin, and while his briefly lived rivalry with Hisoka, he didn’t fight him because Hisoka has killed others. In fact, the only reason we see Gon become angry towards others is if he doesn’t understand a situation, or his friends are in danger. This is especially seen during the Chimera Ant arc. Kaito, who Gon appeared to idolize as a friend of his Father, was killed by one of the Chimera Ants. As a result in this, Gon went as far as to lose himself in his anger, nearly obsessed with the idea of vengeance for what had happened to Kaito.
He’s also level headed, and is seen to be extremely calm during many dangerous situations during the beginning of the series. He’s stubborn, rarely giving in when he wants to achieve something. He’s also extremely loyal, doing whatever he can to protect and help his friends when he feels he situation calls for it.
Though, he’s also incredibly blunt. He won’t hesitate to say what what’s on his mind. With that said, Gon is incredibly emotional, and tends to wear his heart on his sleeves. He’s carefree, and tends to be happy-go-lucky at times.
In the Chimera Ant arc, his faults make him take a turn for the worse. Gon isolates himself from friends, and becomes incredibly unpredictable. Instead of helping others as he usually does, Gon wants vengeance so badly that he takes a blind woman hostage, and threatens her death if Kaito’s murderer does not cooperate. At the end of the arc, Gon goes as far as to williningly destroy himself in order to kill Pitou.
Gon is also animal-like. As a result of growing up on an island, he was able to spend a great amount of time with animals. It’s due to this that Gon has many animal-like qualities – he can run fast, jump high, and he has an extreme keen sense of smell. He’s also good with animals, which is a quality that all hunters have.
Abilities/Powers: Gon’s abilities are first shown in an extremely animalistic manner. Gon is extremely fast, a skilled jumper, and has an extremely keen sense of smell. This is from growing up among animals instead of mostly humans. He is extremely observant, as well. Quite the fisher: Although only seen once in doing this: Gon is quite the skilled fisher! In the beginning, hes shown to catch an extremely large fish that others on the island could not catch themselves.
Jajanken: Nen is an ability unique to the Hunter x Hunter world--this ability uses a body’s aura to create abilities of immense strength. From the point where I am taking Gon, he’s grown strong enough to use his fists to make even concrete turn into nothing but rubble. This is shown through various attacks in his jajanken. He turns his aura into things such as what looks to be a sword, or powering his fists for a powerful punch. These maneuvers are all named after the rock-paper-scissor game. I.e, rock is one attack, paper is another, and scissors is another. Items/Weapons: The clothes on his back, and his backpack. The backpack had some basic supplies in it, but it can be emptied when he enters Haven. Hail, well met, and other such judicious greetings of similar denotations, o’ city of macabre wonders! While I’m most flattered that you’ve chosen me, the tricky of trickiests, to be a member of your bracket, I find your welcome…rude. Shockingly rude!
[And he waves an index finger disapprovingly at the screen, not looking particularly put out, in fact he’s wearing his best of devilry faces. Something about him suggesting that he could…potentially…be up to no good if left to his own devices for too long. So, denizens, perhaps you shouldn’t leave him on his own for long.]
The roll in accommodations leave something to be desired [he flaps his hand dismissively here] that, however, I can grudgingly forgive. What I’m having difficulty with is the lack of refreshments…and specifically, I mean breakfast. It’s morning, the sun has risen and is greeting me most glaringly, how glorious it is. I, however, refuse to discuss the terms of my stay until I see an assortment of breakfast meats spread out in offering before me.
[Well, hop to, he has a busy day ahead of him, there’s funny business to be had, and a whole new world just waiting for him to bring on the party.]
So this is my demand, as a captive I believe I’m entitled to at least one.
Sample Entry Two:
A new world, eh? Loki had been privy to many a worlds in his long lifetime, well, lifetimes…he’s only recently acquired this body, but that doesn’t mean this incarnation hadn’t seen plenty of worlds. During his time with his youthful avenging companions he spent an entire year (or nearly so, mortal reckoning for a busy god of mischief could be difficult to differentiate from time as he knew it) jumping from world to world, dimension to dimension, and universe to universe. So he wouldn’t really color himself surprised so much as intrigued by finding himself in such a desolate and limited little world. Intrigued, because he had not traversed to this dimension by his own design so it must have been someone else’s plan, someone else’s game…and that was endlessly nettlesome. Loki was so accustomed to pulling the strings, to being apprised of the mayhem, to causing it…and now someone or something was attempting to usurp him from his domain of expertise…and it was annoying. Especially since that hadn’t the common decency to offer him blueberry pancakes and bacon…bacon, what a magical breakfast wonder.
On the other hand a new world meant a new beginning, a chance to show this world an entirely different Loki…or perhaps this was a world that knew absolutely nothing about him. Oh how grand a blank slate would be! Nothing to prove and he wouldn’t have to fight nearly as hard against the negative perceptions that had been plaguing him in his freshly acquire existence…and the less he had to fight, the less he had to think about his past transgressions. He could focus being the new trickster he was trying so hard to be, a lovable and relatively harmless scamp, with a penchant for causing a little bit of mischief and sweet chaos…now and then. Not frequently, just enough to keep the blood pumping and the excitement fresh. Everyone needed to be kept on their toes, so upset the established way of things a little bit to prevent the world from stagnating too much…that’s who he was. Though, change, Loki was also about change.
First things first, he couldn’t be at ease knowing he was out of the loop, that someone else held all of the cards and that simply could not be. So gathering information was his number one priority priority and as such, the first thing he wanted to know was…where, by Odin’s empty eye socket, were all of the words?
Because her mutation is so closely tied to the state of her emotions, Ororo is the epitome of calm, composed and collected. She is reserved, doing her best not to let her emotions (and by extent, her powers) get the better of her. Her ability to manipulate the weather makes her a fearsome opponent indeed – that she possesses such great control over it is testament to the rein she has over her emotions. It takes quite a bit to get under her skin, but once she gets angry, she really gets angry. For her to lose her temper or be forced into a truly scary situation would equate to flashes of lightning or even a violent thunderstorm. But Ororo knows the importance of self-control, especially with powers as potentially destructive as hers. As a result, her control over her emotions, powers and her own mind are all extremely important to her.
Her hard-learned control over her powers came hand in hand with learning how to contain herself and her emotions. But by the same token, her mutation has led to some degree of emotional repression. While certainly not completely repressed, she has still had to keep herself from acting out on extreme emotions. As a result, she was deemed a little distant to her teammates and friends. Containing her emotions isn't always easy - and when her temper gets the better of her, it can have largely dramatic effect, often potentially quite destructive, which makes keeping extreme emotions like joy or anger or grief all the more important. She's since gotten better at expressing herself and embracing her feelings over the years, and especially since meeting her friend Yukio, as well as the temporary loss of her powers, but all the same, she does prefer a degree of solitude and self-control. Probably the best modern example of how her powers and extreme emotion are tied together is how, upon learning of Wolverine's death, she made Beast take her up into orbit so she could mourn in a way that wouldn't hurt anyone on Earth, and ended up causing a planet-wide solar storm that manifested itself in the form of an Aurora Borealis.
Storm is also famous for her strong mind and will, with some writers going so far as to say she is indomitable. While not impervious to mind-control, she's often depicted as being tough to overpower or possess (which sadly leads to more than one supervillain taking that as a deciding factor in making her their queen. #StormProblems) Charles Xavier has said that even maintaining a telepathic link with her can be difficult because of the constant static field she apparently has in her mind, one that only strengthens with the use of her powers.
So, it can be said that Storm is proud and more than confident of herself and of her abilities. But by no means is she arrogant (... well, maybe a little.) She carries herself like a queen would, but at the same time, she has no problem letting others take control (as long as she deems them worthy leaders.) She also has a very strong protective instinct - she's constantly looking out for her fellow X-Men, and especially the younger students. She's perceptive enough to able to tell when something bothers them, and is quick to offer help and advice should they need it.
And yet...! Storm is also one of the most dangerous X-Men to cross. It takes quite a bit to make her angry, but once her patience is stretched thin, and especially if her family has been threatened (she is very protective of the people she loves. see: never ever threaten kitty pryde in her presence), or if she has been telepathically violated (she has Issues with people taking over her mind. see: that time emma frost tampered with her mind), it would be wise to run for the next country. Not only will she not think twice about dropping a hurricane on her enemies, Ororo has proved herself a formidable opponent even in hand-to-hand combat. She challenges Scott's leadership and for the right to lead the X-Men when she deems him unfit to lead (it turns out he was possessed but w/e), and bests him in combat even while she was completely depowered.
In spite of this, there is no questioning that Ororo is kind and compassionate. She's long been known as one of the "nicest" X-Men and has made several lasting friendships with her fellow teammates over the years. She is kind and compassionate and nurturing - when she isn't offering a words of encouragement to her fellow X-Men, she can be found in the greenhouse or in the garden among her beloved plants, giving them their own personal rainshowers. Ororo has a healthy respect for all forms of life - knowing that despite the destructive nature of a storm, violence is not all that it is good for, and that it can be used for life as well. The whole reason she's on the X-Men at all is because Professor Xavier had convinced her that she could do so much good for so many more people than just the tribes in Central Africa who prayed to her for a good harvest. In that respect, Storm is self-aware and is one of those X-Men who truly have the heart and conviction and determination to fight and defend the oppressed.
That said, Storm is a natural leader. She knows how to take command of a team and of a situation. She has been one of the X-Men's longest go-to's for field leaders. She led the team back when Cyclops first stepped down in the 80s and has consistently been a regular leader of the X-Men over the years. She has much of the team's respect - even the flighty, testy Wolverine's - due to her strategic mind and ability to make hard decisions in tight situations. But at the same time, she knows when to step back and let others handle things should a situation call for it. She led the X-Men when she was without powers, but eventually she realized that she was better off with them than without, and so relinquished leadership to Logan while she looked for a way to re-power herself.
At the end of the day, Storm believes in Charles Xavier's cause. Does that make her a bit of an idealist, and a self-righteous one at that? Perhaps. Yes, it does, and she's been called out on it before. She has a penchant for taking on responsibilities she does not need to, but does so anyway because it is the right thing. And if no one else will do it, then she is more than willing to take on the job herself. Being a mutant in the Marvel Universe is difficult - they are constantly exposed to the prejudice and bigotry of humans - things that she, as a black (arguably queer) woman, has already faced practically all her life - even before she started to fight for Xavier's Dream. But she has faith that Charles Xavier’s dream of humans and mutants living in harmony can one day be realized. It may not happen in the near future, but she does what she can to help that future become a reality - if not for herself, then definitely for the students and the mutants of the generations to come. In the meantime, she encourages them to develop their powers and teaches them how to use their mutations to help people, and for them to show and prove to humans that they are not to be feared.
As her codename suggests, Storm can manipulate the weather around her with a thought - that is, call forth rain, hail, snow and sleet, summon winds, fogs, mists, tornadoes and hurricanes, generate/(re)direct lightning to strike down her enemies, and adjust temperature and pressure to her liking. Storm can also do the opposite - she is as capable of dissipating such weather conditions as she is able to summon them. Her powers also give her some resistance to extreme temperature change, as well as the physiology to withstand sudden changes in pressure since her control over the wind allows her to fly at the speed of the wind and at differing atmospheric levels. Professor X has also stated on more than one occasion that the nature of her powers gives her a natural sort of shield against telepathy - telepaths find it takes some effort to maintain a prolonged mental link with her because of a "static field" around her thoughts (idk man, comics.) Other aspects of her power include being able to sense, or "see" the flow of energy and sense where exactly in the world she is just by feeling the atmospheric conditions around her.
That's like, a lot of dangerous powers. But as Ororo has had to learn the hard way, the weather isn't something to be messed with casually. Depending on the scale of what she's doing, it can have a lot of nasty effects. (For example, one of her first acts as a "goddess" was to relieve a tribe's drought by making it rain over their crops for days on end. She'd sucked the moisture from the atmosphere and caused an even bigger, wider-scaled drought over the many neighboring areas, bringing more suffering to more people.) So as much ass-kicking as she can do, she has to keep in mind to keep it restrained over certain areas. She can't alter an entire climate (she probably could, but she really shouldn't. hahaaa.)
But, Ororo is limited by the constraints of the environment she is in. Not only is she claustrophobic, but being indoors or underground would make it very difficult (or near impossible) to summon a tornado. She can only work with the already existing atmosphere (so she'll have less to work with when underground, for example)
Other skills
Her lifestyle with the X-Men also naturally implies a lot of endurance training and exercise. She's not too shabby in a fist fight - certainly not at the level of Wolverine (who taught her) but strong enough to hold her own in a one-on-one fight against the likes of Mystique. She's also handy in a knife-fight, and knows how to handle common firearms (again, because Logan insists she learn how to take care of herself without her powers. Something that came in handy when she was without her powers for an extended period of time.) She also knows how to pick locks and pick pockets with ease, due to her being taken in as a student by master thief Achmed Il-Gibar back when she was an orphaned streetchild on the streets of Cairo.
Items/Weapons: Her current uniform, and a set of lockpicks that she carries at all times!
Ororo was not a stranger to being pulled into new worlds. It wasn't something that happened often, but it had happened to her enough times in the past that she wasn't too lost about it now. Confused, perhaps, and more than a little concerned, but not at the fact that she was in another universe. No, what did trouble her was everything that she'd left behind: the school, the students, her team, her family... For her to be pulled away from all of them, at a time like this, left her frustrated and more than a little annoyed. And it would have showed, not only on her face, but also in the sky...
But it wasn't showing in the sky. Or at least, not as it should have if she was as angry as she felt. Aside from the darkening clouds and the occasional bolt of lightning, there was nothing going on in the atmosphere that should have reflected the extent of her anger.
There was something wrong with the atmosphere here. She could not quite pinpoint what it was- just that it did not feel natural, and rather felt like someone else was pulling on the invisible strings of something she was not used to sharing. And because she could not be completely certain of what was going on, her anger only built.
She rose into the air, as high as she was able to, and steeled herself. With a determined inhale, she gave the air a savage pull with her mind. The sky gave a satisfying crack as white-hot lightning split the clouds and thunder rumbled through the city, this prison. She raised her chin defiantly and narrowed her glowing eyes. Let them see. Let them hear. Let them wonder what they got themselves into when they decided to cross Storm.
Name: Sarie Contact Info:sariesarita Other Characters Played: Akihito Kanbara | Kyoukai no Kanata Requested apartment: 5.1 with Yona if possible. Otherwise just with Yona.
Character Name: Hak (Formerly Hak Son) Nicknames: Thunder Beast of Kouka, Dark Dragon Canon: Akatsuki no Yona Canon Point: Chapter 65 after the Fire Festival Background/History:Wikia and Wiki
Personality: Hak appears to be your typical 'Jerk with a Heart of Gold'. At least on the surface. He enjoys teasing those close to him, pointing out their weaknesses and just overall enjoys making fun of people he feels comfortable around. He tends to be sarcastic and laughs at the expense of others. From the beginning of the series you see him taking insulting shots at Yona, even though she's a princess and he's just a visiting adopted son of one of her father's generals. Teasing her about her affections for her cousin Soo Won or telling her she needs to lose some weight when he's trying to lift her onto a horse are all very common situations. Later, the more members that join their little group, the more he opens up and trusts them, the more he meshes with their quirks and teases them or just adds to the comedy of the series. He's someone that appears to have a personality that would push others away, but Hak is quite personable and well-liked by others. He doesn't shy away from interacting with his world and befriends people easily.
Hak is known to be extremely loyal though. King Il drew his attention and respect during an incident which landed him finally agreeing to serve as Princess Yona's bodyguard after refusing the position several times. Tae Jun, the second son of the current General of the Fire Tribe was pursuing Yona's hand and was not accepting no for an answer. Hak stepped in after a long internal battle with himself, knowing that if he did interfere, he would be required to do so from that point on. His interference angered the son and he began to unsheathe his sword in order to attack both Hak and Yona, but King Il arrived and grasped the sword by the blade to halt the attack. Without a single word of complaint or pain, the King--from all appearances a very dimwitted and happy go lucky sort who detested weapons--calmed the situation while hiding his injury from everyone. Hak didn't miss it though. The incident impacted his opinion of the King from that point on. "This person is no coward."
This loyalty is a little something of a double edged sword though. It's shown his affection for Yona existed from a very young age. But Hak, Yona and Soo Won were all friends and he--the lowest ranking one of the three--was very aware of Yona's affections for Soo Won. It was a relationship he didn't just notice. No, in a rare love triangle format--Hak supported it. His own feelings for Yona were always shoved down because he cared for and respected Soo Won. Eventually those two would be together and it was something he was 100% okay with, because he'd be there protecting the two of them. That’s genuinely how he believed things would go.
Soo Won's betrayal didn't just affect Yona, it affected Hak too. His focus from the beginning has been on getting Yona through it all through everything. His original plans after escaping with Yona to the wind tribe was to denounce his position as their general, give Mundok back the Son name (both of which he did) but the final one was to leave Yona in their care to live out the rest of her life in peace. His intention was to martyr himself, knowing the Kingdom would pin the murder of King Il on him, claiming Hak killed him and kidnapped Yona. His belief was that if they went after him, they would leave Yona alone. When later in the series it's finally his turn to break down when face to face with Soo Won--it's literally devastating and he almost kills himself from pushing himself in the rage and upset it's caused him.
For Yona, Hak has sacrificed his name, his freedom, his future and a number of other things in order to keep her going. Though he likely doesn't view any of these as actual sacrifices, it's not how Yona views it. Though the rest of their companions refer to Yona informally, Hak has been forbidden to do so. By Yona. Unknown to Hak, Yona's goal includes being able to grant Hak his freedom eventually and because of that she attempts to maintain a professional relationship with him. She believes he does everything out of duty, but in reality it's because of their bond and his love for her. Though they have always had a somewhat informal relationship compared to their status.
Hak still only refers to Yona as a princess and appears to have little to no intention of pursuing a relationship because of this. There are hints that King Il was in favor of giving Yona to Hak and took advantage of the two of them trying to trick Tae Jun into believing they were already engaged by giving them his support and forcing Hak into the bodyguard position. It's a stark contrast to his refusal to let Yona marry Soo Won when she asked.
As for Hak, I'm pretty sure even thinking about becoming the next King would be a huge reason to avoid his feelings for Yona like the plague. Everyone in the wind tribe is a little "Ugh I don't want to do that, it sounds like too much work" and Hak is no different. He didn't want to become her bodyguard or the general because of the work and importance of the position, refused the position several times before getting himself cornered into having to accept it. He's extremely laid back about things, almost to the point of being sort of lazy. Thoughts of becoming King and having any sort of power are the furthest thing from his mind. His motivation is Yona, nothing more.
It's this bond they have that brings out one of my favorite traits in Hak though. He's supportive of Yona in a way that very few characters in series like this one are. He loved the spoiled princess Yona and did an amazing job serving as her knight in shining armor. It was needed back then, but Yona continually changes during the series and how Hak handles her has changed to suit.
Early on after almost losing Hak because of her inability to help--Yona wished to take up a weapon to defend not only herself but Hak as well. Hak handed her a bow and arrows and taught her to shoot. He's laid back enough that he's not ever going to just tell her to let him protect her. In fact, it's just the opposite. Hak takes massive pride in Yona's accomplishments. He pretends not to notice she's spending half the night practicing shooting her arrows, but when the time comes for her to use them, he's showing her 110% trust in her abilities and treats her as an equally powerful member of their group.
Yona goes to take on a bandit--giving him a tongue lashing and drawing unneeded attention to their group--Hak is the one laughing with sheer pride as the rest of their group is looking to him to hopefully stop her. But he never does. He backs her up with pride and complete affection, like a doting parent or proud teacher. The stronger she gets, the more amused and excited he gets.
In chapter 76 he nominates her for an archery gambling contest that is happening in a village. Yona is worried, but he just tells her to have fun with it. If she doesn't win, that's fine. She, of course, nails it and Hak's excitement about winning against everyone that bet against her is entirely out of how proud he is of her.
But most of all, in chapter 47, every ounce of his loyalty, support, respect come out in a very perfect way. When Jae Ha was teasing Yona about how Hak would probably want to lock her away and hide her from everyone--he answers her dead seriously. "That's a lie. ...Yeah. If anything it's the exact opposite. I want to let them look at you. That old geezer Mundok, his Magesty Il, those bastards that chased you out of the castle, and the people of Kouka. 'Look! This is the Princess Yona. She's disposed of her hair and has taken up the sword to support this country. She is stronger than anyone. Princess Yona is here.' is what I would tell them."
Abilities/Powers: Unlike the Dragons that Yona and Hak recruit to assist them in their journey, Hak does not possess any special powers. He's completely human with only his natural skills to help him. Which that fact only makes his natural abilities that much more frightening.
Known as the Thunder Beast of Kouka and regarded as the most powerful fighter in the entire country; Hak is well known for his skills with a Hsu Quandao (A type of spear/halberd) all around the Kingdom. With his speed and strength, he rose to the status of General of the Wind Tribe in his mid/late teenage years (which he's still a teenager at 18) and was placed as the personal bodyguard of Princess Yona because of their childhood relationship and his powerful skills. He's both knowledgeable and skilled in all forms of weapons, including his hands, as well as basic survival and military strategy.
The Dragons have jokingly nicknamed him "The Dark Dragon", something he is exceedingly proud of, because of his skills in fighting as well as how no matter how injured, near death, or targeted he is by enemies--he refuses to die. Poisoned, multiple arrows shot into his back as he protects Yona and eventually falling off a cliff and taking the entire brunt of the fall to protect her--all within the span of a day? (Or even seconds ha) He should die but he just needs to be patched up and spend some time resting and recovering and he's good to go again.
In a group of people with powerful gifts--he's the biggest threat. Which is saying something.
Items/Weapons: His Hsu Quandao (spear/halberd), sword and dagger.
Sample Entry Two: Though he appeared calm and collected on the outside, Hak was a mess inside. There was only one person of importance to him that he needed to find here but for her own safety he couldn't ask for her over the network. As the only Princess of Kouka Kingdom, a country in the midst of political unrest, keeping Yona safe and alive was his job. She'd been the lone witness to the assassination of her father and he'd barely gotten her out of the castle alive. Drawing any attention to her at all could put her life at risk until he had an opportunity to assess the situation they'd found themselves in for dangers.
To say he was angry was an understatement. Whoever had brought them here was going to end up at the other end of his fury eventually if he didn't get her back as soon as possible. They'd come too far since that day, cheating death and struggling to pave their way through the world to have it end here like this. He needed to get back to her side. Without getting her killed.
So instead of asking specifically for her over the network, Hak knew he needed to draw attention to himself in order to find her. Just like he was looking for her, she would be searching for him. She needed to be able to contact him without a large number of people getting a look at her because he didn't know who all was here.
There wasn't a choice. He was the one that needed to make a call to the network, but it wasn't like he could just ask for her as that would make the whole thing pointless. He didn't know this enemy and wasn't willing to leave something as important as her up to chance. But they weren't alone on their journey. He needed to find the rest of his companions as well, which made this whole thing easier. If he could contact them, there would be more people to search for Yona. It also gave him a reason to post to the network outside of asking for her. An easy way to draw her attention to himself without putting Yona at risk.
He had to do this all before she stupidly decided to try to do it herself. She tends to forget that she's not supposed to be drawing attention to herself. Actually, maybe the correct word is ignores. She ignores the fact she's not supposed to be drawing attention to herself.
With a grin, because honestly, he doesn't dislike that part of her at all, Hak turns on the communicator in the way that he was shown and addresses the network for the first time.
dick grayson (robin) || young justice || not reserved
Name: dai Contact Info:disarmingly Other Characters Played: n/a Requested apartment: 6.3
Character Name: Richard "Dick" Grayson (Robin) Canon: Young Justice Animated Canon Point: 1x26 - Auld Acquaintance (right at the stroke of midnight, New Years) Background/History:canon || robin
Previous Game History: For a few months back in 2013, Robin was settled into Haven as much as anyone could be. He'd lived through enough events to know the general state of things - that when people died, they came back, that Yao was to blame for most of what happened, where you could go and where you couldn't, and the fact you couldn't leave. The restrictions of Haven wore on him, including just how out of control everything seemed to be. No matter what he did, or how hard he tried, his teammates kept dying - and without Kaldur there to tell him to stop being stubborn, he pushed all that weight on to himself. Having that, plus the added knowledge of who he apparently becomes in the future - Batman? - left Dick a little less aster and a little more whelmed. When he left, he still at least had Zatanna, and Conner and Kon and Jason. There were people he had to protect, and that in itself was enough to give him at least a level of comfort when it came to Haven. Or did give him a level of comfort.
Personality:
Robin, designation B01, Batman's sidekick, most experienced and longest lasting in the field today. Batman's sidekick, the Boy Wonder, and half of the famous dynamic duo. Most don't get to see much past that - the R on his chest, the flash of red on black. He's the kid at Batman's side, short and thin, black hair, and more often than not, grinning for the cameras. He seems to be the light to Batman's dark, the kid hero who stands at his side. He must be talented, if Batman keeps his around, quick and strong and useful. Batma's protégé, the next in the line. If you're a hero, you might get to see the grin up close. See how seamlessly he works up close to Batman, closer than anyone else has gotten. You might hear the laugh, a little out of place in such a gritty city like Gotham, echoing all around you. You might even see him work, the computer on his wrist one of the many mysteries that modern technology can provide. He's active, he's able, and he's smart, talented. You'd expect nothing less from Batman's sidekick, but it's a bit of a mystery of why it works so well. How. Sure, it's every child's dream to be a superhero, but dreams and reality are so different, you might wonder how he's still alive.
And it's true, it is somewhat of a mystery. A mystery that Robin has learned to work with, adapt to. He's been Batman's sidekick, in the field, for four years now - they work at an almost telepathic level, able to predict each other's move without needing to speak, to even ask. Robin, before joining the team, was used to this level of independence when he worked. This changed, of course, when he become a part of Young Justice and he adapted accordingly, learning to be specific in his plans, describing what he's thinking out loud (through a telepathic link of course) to his teammates. It took time, yes, but he learned. He got better. He might be the youngest and the smallest of the team, but Robin has a very determined drive to make sure he is not the weakest link, won't allow himself to be the weakest link. Of course he still wants to, from time to time, try and go off to do things on his own - but the want has decreased while being on this team. He's learned the advantages of working with people he trusts, intrinsically, and enjoys what can come of it. He's efficient and he thinks ahead, has each step of every plan ready to go and ready to explain when the time comes, but don't take that to mean he can't think on his feet. Robin's known to be the one on the team to come up with a plan on the fly, getting them out of many a situation on spur of the moment, multi-faceted plans. And they're alive, which is saying something, knowing the kids of things they face. He's athletic, strategic and extremely intelligent - and it doesn't hurt that he's experienced, too.
But that's not all there is. Behind the mask - behind the Robin - there is Richard Grayson. A fourteen year old mathlete who likes computers and word-play. Whereas Batman keeps his secret identity completely separate from his heroing one, Dick isn't so successful, and a lot of who he really is comes through even when he's wearing the mask. Because really, think about it. This is a teenager (pre-teen, if we're being technical) who has to spend countless hours with Batman, the light to his dark, and that has bred a very sarcastic, sometimes overly confident, kid. Rob will make fun of just about anyone, given the situation and the material to work with (Wally is his favorite target, though. He just makes things so easy) or anything. He inserts humor into situations to alleviate the gravity, to keep everyone's mind off the fact that this is all very real, and very dangerous. The laugh, that comes through when he's fighting, is part of this - he likes to make his presence known, though not outright. He'd much rather sit in the shadows and echo his laugh around the room, confuse the bad guys before he jumps in, because what is more frustrating? Being knocked out before you even know you're being followed, or being taken down when you know someone there, somewhere, and is laughing at you? Described as being lighthearted and somewhat immature, Robin found himself taking up a very little-brother-esque role with the rest of the team (save Zatanna), and seemed quite fine with that. Robin's also known to be quite social, able to get along with just about anyone and everyone if he wants to. He has a tendency to give people chances to prove themselves, rather that writing them off from the get-go, and reserves first impressions. But like it is with most, the difference between being friendly and being trusting is completely different.
Robin is Batman's sidekick, yes, and is being trained to be what many believe is the next Batman, but beyond just the different takes to crime fighting, Robin and Batman differ in very important, very basic ways. For one, as there are with just about every teenager, Robin has doubts. He's spent enough time around Batman to know that he will do anything for the save of the mission, and after a very traumatic training-gone-wrong, where Robin played that roll and ending up, effectively, sending all of his friends to their deaths, he made the self realization that he can't do that. Doesn't want to become whatever it is he'll need to become to be able to do that. He sees the darkness that eats up Bruce Wayne, the pit in his chest that grows day to day, and he doesn't want to become that. Which is why he opens up to people as much as he can - maybe not completely, because no one needs to know about his insecurities, his fears that he will never be good enough or never be able to prove himself enough - but at least he has friends. The Team, for one. Robin has a bond with Kid Flash, Superboy, Aqualad, Artemis, Miss Martian and Zatanna (Rocket too, with time) that he's not sure Batman has with the Justice League. He's not sure Batman can have that connection with anyone but him, and that weighs on him more than anyone really knows.
Through and through, though, Robin is a hero. He has a very intense sense of right and wrong, but unlike Batman, he lacks the complete confidence in his belief. Yes, he knows he's the good guy. And yes, he knows they're the bad guys, but he also knows sometimes you have to act like the bad guy to get the good stuff done. And yes, there's a line you don't cross, of course, but you do what you have to do. Sometimes that line might make him look like the bad guy, or make the bad guys look good, but there is a line. A very specific line. And sometimes...sometimes he questions where that line falls. That's what he has Batman for, who always knows where that line is, or his team, who help him draw the line when it needs to be. Batman might be training him to be a leader, and his team might recognize that yes, one day, he will lead, but it's this inability on his part (and you could even call it immaturity) that keeps him from doing it now. Leaders take control, leaders lead and don't question what orders they give, who they send where, and while Robin might act like he's there - that he's at that point - he isn't. Not really. Not yet.
All in all, Robin exists in the grey in between. He can be himself - the fun loving, troll-like flirt who acts much more confident than he is - and he can be the hero - the disciplined acrobat who can hack and who can kick butt all in the same day - and he hasn't decided which is him, more. Batman is Batman - Bruce Wayne is the mask and it's all about the job. But Robin...Robin isn't sure if he can do that, yet, and hasn't. Hasn't made that decision, hasn't taken that step, and for him that's perfectly fine. For now. Because he has his team and he has his friends and that can be enough.
A Difference In Dick( Grayson)s: He wears pants (instead of armor'd underwear gosh).
Another main differences, and biggest influences, between this iteration of Dick Grayson and the other one already in game would be the time period they are set in. Comics!Dick Grayson's time period is a bit more vague, his part it in able to shift and change. YJ! Dick Grayson is set a little more firmly in a digital era - his dependence and interaction with technology a main focus of that. He grew up a mischievous hacker, and while that doesn't necessarily apply in Haven due to the technology relationship with the city, how YJ!Dick reacts and responds to people is still with that same new-age, technological way. He uses memes, he plays with words, he talks about TV shows and movies and video games. He is a Robin who knows more than he should about the Justice League, about a connected world, someone who was used to keeping up with with the international news and political relationships. He's used to having that control, which is partially why Haven had such an immediate and difficult affect on him.
Another big difference is YJ!Dick's relationship to the rest of his team. Comics!Dick is much more of the type who falls into a leadership position, more out-going and charismatic, much more responsible in that way. YJ!Dick is much, much younger in that the pressure and responsibilities of being a leader nearly crushes him. He works better as a second in command, shown both with his relationship to Kadur and his relationship with Batman, and he thrives much more in that role. He even mentions, later on in the series, how he prefers to be on the field rather than calling the shots. It's not that he can't lead, rather he prefers not to, despite his inclination towards planning and directing. Batman breeds him to be a leader, but YJ!Dick is much more open about how he doesn't want to be a leader.
There are also much smaller details - like how YJ!Dick had a much larger family that he lost on the day Tony Zucco killed his parents, and how a lot of YJ!Dick reputation as a sidekick had to do with how he was, quite literally, the first of his kind. Also one of the first to start to rebel against the way the role became known. Comics!Dick is twelve, while YJ!Dick is fourteen. And there is also the fact that this Dick Grayon is already traumatized by the understanding of what Haven is like. He's far less out-going, far less optimistic, and much more set in the 'we have to survive above all else' ways than he had been when he first got here.
HOLY SIDEKICK, BATMAN! The thing about Robin that most people forget is that yes, he's fourteen. He's fairly scrawny, not the strongest, and 100% human with no special abilities and powers. He's just a kid, with a couple of special talents, and just the right training. Batman training. You see, Batman is a superhero, one of the first and one of the best, but like Robin he is completely human. A genius, yes, and always at 100% top physical condition, but human, which means to keep up with the rest of the superhero world, he requires training. Robin has received this training for years now, having started being Batman's sidekick at age nine (four years prior) with prior training before even then. He's been trained in the art of deduction, of strategic planning and adaptability, to be able to look at a situation and plan for every possible outcome, and then plan further. Where he may not have super strength or speed, he makes up for with preparation, with the ability to find and use information to his advantage. Batman has groomed Robin into becoming a leader, with the skills and talents necessary to organize and execute missions to Batman-like precision (or almost. he's still young). He's trained in various different forms of martial arts, stealth, escape artistry and marksmanship. He is comfortable with and knowledgeable of just about every weapon you can think of, as well as kept up to date with political and war-like situations across the globe. Robin is also an extremely skilled hacker and computer technician, able to hack into even the most complex of mainframes and redesign its entire infrastructure to suit his needs. If it has a mainframe, he can bend it to his will, with the right tools and time. He might not be Batman (might not want to be Batman), but he has all the information to become Batman.
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, THE FLYING GRAYSONS Before becoming Bruce Wayne's ward, Richard Grayson was a part of the circus. More specifically, a family acrobatic act called the Flying Graysons. He was talented, a real show stopper, but this dream life came to an end when his parents were murdered as he watched. Despite this traumatic event, Dick keeps a very close connection with his acrobatic roots, working it into his training and his hero-ing as often as he can. This training and natural inclination towards acrobatics has helped hone Robin's physical condition, not only making him extremely flexible but also giving him above average speed, strength, agility and endurance.
FEELIN' THE ASTER, YET? And then, of course, there's the mental side of things. Because Batman doesn't just pick up any ole orphaned acrobat and train him to be a sidekick - there has to be something more, another step. Robin is just a kid, yes, but he's a kid with a few very special - very helpful - mental advantages. One is his incredible skill for languages. Not only is he fluent in English, but he has shown the ability to understand and utilize French, Spanish, Italian, German, Japanese and Mandarin Chinese. But it doesn't stop there, because along with languages - and, if you want to get technical, the language of computers as well - because Robin has also proved himself to be something of a math genius, an honored mathlete on his school's math team and quite advanced for his age, a talent Batman most likely does his best to encourage. His mind works in a very mathematical way - starting with a problem and working, step by step, through it to find a solution. This penchant for math and languages allows Robin's mind to work in ways that many other fourteen year old boys can't - but that is also something to keep in mind. He's still just a kid, and as amazing as these abilities are, they are not flawless. He makes mistakes, forgets things, and makes bad decisions - just like any kid who wants to prove themselves to their friends and their parental figures.
[ it takes a day or so before he can bring himself to even look at his device. an entire day spent exploring, hiding away in shadows, realizing after those first few interactions just how wrong he'd been. because for him, he'd fallen asleep. he'd been curled with his back to zatanna and he'd thought 'tomorrow will do something, tomorrow something will change.
it changed, alright.
so much that robin needs the time to refigure his way around. the landscape itself has shifted so much, and he finds that's the hardest part. a map he has to redraw, rememorize. when he finds himself perched on the highest possible, he finally settles enough to pull it out, check the device to make sure at least the mechanics of it are what he remembers.
he gets the audio working after a little bit, needing some time to scan the network itself before he can bring himself to turn it on. audio only, of course, because his laugh should always be the first thing people hear. ]
'sup, Haven? I've apparently got a serious case of amnesia- anyone wanna update me? I've got about eight months missing at this point. Cliffnotes appreciated. [ he already got a rundown from conner, and from zatanna, but hearing it from just about anyone else would help. add info to info, after all. ]
It's Rob- by the way. First one, which is something I have to actually mention? [ he did before, but the nice bit about being around before the other robins started showing up meant that he got first dibs. now, he has no clue. ] Who knew?
Sample Entry Two:
It's...wrong.
Which, really, should make more sense than it does. Waking up in Haven was an experience that Dick never got used to, no matter how long he was here, how often he opened his eyes to find the crumbling bits of the ceiling above his head. Feeling wrong meant that he wasn't jaded to the dangers of his immediate scenery, wasn't letting his guard down in a city that you never could.
He opens his eyes and sees the same ceiling, but something is off. Everything is off. More off than should be allowed or even possible over the span of a single night. His stomach is in knots, his gut telling him to run, but he needed to find Zatanna first. Conner. Anyone. Because despite that urge that is always there under the surface, itching at the under layer of his skin, they have to stick together. It's the best plan of action for everyone, it always has been, and Haven just made that more obvious to him as time went on. Together they could survive, together they could handle this, he just needed to get to her (and Conner and Kon, but details) and then he could move on from there.
"Zee?" Because his bed was empty, which wasn't right. Usually he's the one that's up first, out first; getting more than two or three hours of sleep at a time was unheard of for him, especially here. And yet he's awake and there's no one here. "Supey? Kon?" His super hearing should pick up on that, right? Still, Rob feels that itch in his hands to check his wrist-computer, despite how long it's been since he's even had one.
Something's wrong. Something's really wrong.
He gets up with a start, already making his way out the door when he pulls out the device, checks the pictures of the people here and stops. Because it's one thing to see something and not believe it, another to see something that is hard to believe. But when he sees something there and knows, in his gut, that it's right despite how it shouldn't? How impossible it is?
Character Name: Cassie Canon: Animorphs Canon Point: After the rest of the Animorphs leave Earth to save Ax (book #54, "The Beginning"). Background/History:Animorphs. (And Cassie's wikia).
Personality: Cassie is, in a word, compassionate. Her caring, empathetic personality makes it easy for others to come to her for advice and comfort. She is quite perceptive and sensitive to the way that others feel, and her warmth tends to encourage others to open up about their problems to her. With the Animorphs, she sometimes acted as the ‘team therapist’ when it got rough, and she was usually the ‘mediator’ and peace-maker when problems arose.
In addition, animals have always been a huge part of Cassie’s life. Back before the war went public, her father ran a Wildlife Rehabilitation Clinic for injured wildlife out of the family’s barn, and her mother worked as the head vet for a zoo within an amusement park called ‘The Gardens.’ This family legacy, no doubt, helped Cassie develop a deep love for nature and animals, and also led to her desire to become a vet when she was older. She was considered the tree-hugger and nature-lover of the group, and Marco sometimes jokingly referred to her as "Earth Mother" because of it. But, her love of animals also meant that there was a constant struggle in her about the morality of using morphs, and of killing other sentient creatures.
At her core, Cassie is a good-hearted and peaceful person. But her ability to sense and anticipate the way that others feel and think has allowed her to sometimes manipulate -- or, at least, help others to manipulate -- someone when it’s needed. This was especially seen in the case of David, as she was the mastermind behind the plan to trap him as a rat. She not only guessed his emotions correctly, but predicted his reactions ahead of time and, based on that, came up with the plan to have him trapped. And it worked perfectly. David, as Cassie knew he would, fell for the various tricks that the Animorphs employed on him, particularly since a lot of it fed his growing ego.
There are also some times where Cassie can be seen as hypocritical -- she always tried to hold strong to her morals, but yet still participated in the killing. One example in particular was when Jake flushed nearly seventeen thousand helpless Yeerks into space to die. While it clearly caused her some internal conflict and discomfort (seen later on, when Marco tries to explain to Jake that it was necessary, and Cassie shies away from agreeing with him or offering her own opinion, and even appears to be a bit uncertain about it), Cassie initially tries to justify it to Erek -- and almost says that they’d massacred so many helpless Yeerks merely as a diversion.
The Drode, the Crayak’s lackey, once described her as a ‘killer with a conscience’. Cassie is a strongly moral person, and always questioned whether war and violence was the best choice to make to counter the Yeerks’ invasion. While, as an Animorph, she naturally needed to be violent and kill others, there were times where Cassie would seek out an alternative way to deal with an issue. She was sometimes even sympathetic towards her enemies to the point that it was detrimental to herself and others. At one point, after she’d quit the Animorphs, Cassie agreed to become a nothlit caterpillar (AKA become stuck as one the rest of her life) if a Yeerk, named Aftran, would free the little girl that she controlled. By doing this, she had to trust that her worst enemy -- an alien that had participated in the last few years of enslaving the human race -- would not only keep her word and release the girl, but also not merely squish Cassie as a caterpillar. Cassie also handed the Escafil device (the cube that gave morphing powers) to their enemy and Jake’s brother Tom, solely that so Jake wouldn’t have to kill his own brother. Both of these choices didn’t go over very well with the rest of the Animorphs, but they were things Cassie felt she needed to do.
However, even as dangerous as her actions have sometimes been, there has always tended to be a positive gain in the long run. The Yeerk Aftran eventually formed the Yeerk Peace Movement, a group of Yeerks that only took voluntary controllers and searched for a way to coexist with their hosts peacefully, even if it meant the Yeerk would have no host. And letting Tom’s Yeerk have the morphing cube showed the Yeerks another way, besides controlling others, to gain all the senses that they lacked in their natural form. So while her actions can sometimes be seen as reckless, there always seems to be a certain foresight to what she does. Cassie even argues to Ax, while trying to justify her actions in letting the Yeerks have the morphing cube, that she hoped it would show the Yeerks another way to live without controlling hosts. And, as some of the other characters have pointed out throughout the series, Cassie is able to pick out the subtle connections and possibilities that most other people don’t (or refuse to) see.
After the war ended, Cassie settled into the role one would expect her to. She became an activist and spokesperson for the now free Hork-Bajir population, and became an adviser on the President’s sub-cabinet on matters that concerned the aliens that lived on Earth now. She also spent some of her time traveling around as an animal conservationist (still trying to save the world, even after the world had been saved), and took night classes with the intent to become a vet. Out of all the Animorphs, Cassie, as well as Marco, were perhaps the only ones to move on from the war. Cassie even mentions that the two of them have ‘prospered’ while the others had a much rougher time handling life after the war.
So while Cassie may look young, she is very far from naive or inexperienced. The few years that she spent as an Animorph packed an entire lifetime of experiences in war, gore, death, slavery, and violence into her. Cassie had to grow up fast, and she -- along with the other Animorphs -- have been through a lot.
Abilities/Powers: The ability to morph into any animal that she touches. She's able to turn into any animal (or alien) that she acquires the DNA of. Any injury sustained, in morph or in her human form, can be morphed away and healed completely. Cassie is also what the Andalites call an "estreen", which means she has a natural talent for morphing. She can control the process to make it less grotesque, and she can morph repeatedly within a short time without tiring as easily as others would.
There are drawbacks to this power, however. The first is that an animal's instincts come included with each morph. This means that it's sometimes a gamble to see if the Animorph will be able to control/ignore the animal's innate (sometimes incredible strong) instincts. But even more notably, anyone that stays past the two hour limit will stay trapped as that particular morph forever (this is what's known as a 'nothlit').
Sample Entry: [ Even three years past the end of the war, even after she and the rest of the Animorphs had been out about their identities, Cassie couldn't shake that basic instinct to be overly cautious. She had no idea if the Yeerks were present in this place, in this new dimension. If they had control over the population or not.
If they were hostile or not.
So instead of video, Cassie switches on the voice function. Her tone is friendly, if not a bit confused and cautious: ] Well, this is definitely weird [ yet she should almost be used to it, right? The Ellimist had whisked the Animorphs away to different planets and dimensions on more than one occasion -- a notion that made her confident about her attempt at discretion. ]
So yeah, um. [ Wooo, yeah. Fumble fumble fumble. That's the famous "Earth Mother" Cassie for you. Talking to a group of people had never been her biggest strength, even if it was just her voice. Marco may've enjoyed the limelight and his new-found celebrity status, but it'd never meshed well with her. ] Hi everyone! I'm one of the newbies, if that wasn't obvious enough.
[ But judging by the confused looks on the people that had woken up with her, she wasn't the only one that felt this way. ]
So anyways. Can anyone out there fill me in a little bit more?
Sample Entry Two: It was early, at a time where the city was still sleepy and quiet and the sun had just barely peeked above the horizon. Cassie had taken a bus as close to the outskirts of the city as she could manage, then rode her bike the rest of the way to the forest. Once there, she dismounted and leaned the bike against one of the trees.
She took a deep breath and inhaled the familiar smells of the forest, the earthy scent of leaves and dirt and bark. It caused a dull pang of nostalgia in her, made her miss home a little bit and all the memories that came with it. Cassie had moved out from her parents' house not too soon after the war had ended, and she'd been too busy with her work to come visit all that often. It was a little hard to, when one day she'd find herself in Yellowstone working with Toby and the rest of the Hork-Bajir population, then the next day she'd be whisked off via a private government jet to some rain forest somewhere.
Not that she hadn't completely loved her job. She'd had the opportunities to make a difference once again, to help animals and people and aliens all over the world. But somehow, in the back of her mind, she always wondered if that was terrible of her. If the fact that she enjoyed her life, now, after the war, somehow made her a bad person. The only other person to make it out of the war without some sort of mental breakdown was Marco -- but you could expect that from Marco. He rolled with the punches, he was resilient, adaptive. He looked for the humor in everything.
And Cassie, herself, had done her best to look on the bright side of it all and make peace with what had happened. To recognize that yes, terrible things had happened in the war. They'd lost loved ones. They'd seen horrible things. God, they'd done horrible things. But sometimes you had to acknowledge that, and you had to mourn, but then you had to move forward and lift up your head and take care of what you had now.
And now, Cassie wanted to let herself relax.
So she closed her eyes and concentrated.
Coarse gray fur flowed down her body in waves until it covered her entire body, while her bones cracked, shifted, twisted. Her face pushed forward into the muzzle of a canid, and her nose turned a dark, wet black. Suddenly her senses became sharper -- the air was filled with a thousand different, subtle scents that she could pick out. Her ears could distinguish fainter sounds: the rustle of leaves, the happy slosh of water in a nearby river, the flutter of a bird in a tree far above.
And after a few more seconds, Cassie stood on all fours as a wolf.
It was her original battle morph, the same morph that she'd used so many times to rip out the throats of countless Controllers -- Taxxons, Hork-Bajirs, sometimes even humans. It had always had the potential to be destructive. Less so than everyone else's morphs had been, but that'd been a decision she'd made herself. She hadn't ever wanted to severely injure the Controllers, because she'd known that buried deep down inside those often hate-filled eyes, there was an innocent host. Thus, the wolf morph had been perfect for that.
But even moreso, the wolf was totally at ease in the forest. It may not be her pack's territory here, but it was her native environment, it was home base. And Cassie let herself sink into that ease, that predatory calm, and started out into the forest at a quick trot.
