We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every two weeks, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. If you wish to request a specific apartment, please do so in the relevant part of the application. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Every attempt will be made to place a character in their chosen apartments, though this may not always be possible depending on the slots available.

Character Name: Damon Salvatore
Canon: The Vampire Diaries
Canon Point: Up to date canon; Season 4, Episode 4
Background/History: Wiki Link
Personality: At first glance, Damon seems to be easy to figure out. He's a dick, plain and simple. He's unrepentant about that fact and wears it like a badge of pride. Of course, if one takes the time to actually get to know him (and survives knowing him), there's a whole dearth of personality that he tries to keep hidden from the rest of the world. Mostly as a defense mechanism, but it's also out of habit and a little self-denial as well.

Damon's come to the conclusion that he's turned his emotions off, but when it comes to a certain constantly-in-peril female, that doesn't seem to be the case. At first, with Katharine, he wore his heart on his sleeve, his feelings for her and only for her. After her rebuffel and his actual acknowledgement of being used, he severed his bond to her and any ties of affection that lingered. He couldn't, however, sever them with Elena. Mainly because as much as Elena vocally denied any affection towards him, she constantly reacted to him. It gave him hope, as much as he tried to squelch it. So, in the guise of the put-upon older brother, he stays to keep an eye on everyone, though his main focus is, as always, Elena.

Since coming back to Mystic Falls this time around, he's become more open to letting others affect him. He forged a bond with Alaric, one that was a lot like a sibling bond, but without the taint that his and Stefan's had. Alaric was more of an equal to Damon in his eyes, someone he could be himself around and not have to pretend that it was always all right, because most often, it wasn't. His death hit him hard, and there's a twisted sense of duty to his fallen brethren to stay and watch after the charges that Alaric took on as his own. As much as he's capable of killing on a whim, he's equally capable of realizing - after the fact - that his actions might have been a bit much. But even then, it's not something that wracks him with guilt or shame. He did it. It's done. No take-backs. Get over it. He's more than capable of taking responsibility for his own actions, and will usually make what he's done seem worse than it was to either take the blame off someone he cares about, or to hide his own reasons behind doing it.

His self-denial comes in the form of truly thinking he's beyond redemption. Stefan made him take this path and for a long time, he blamed him for not letting him die. Then he accepted what he was and tried to reconcile, there being a brief time when both brothers were on the same wavelength. But, as it is with them, that didn't last long, and now Damon's the sardonic, snarky pile of 'who gives a fuck' that everyone's come to either tolerate, love, or despise. Lately, he's the most honest with Elena, letting her see the good and the bad parts, hoping she'll somehow see that even with the part of himself that enjoys being what he is, there's still something worth caring about. That he won't always be the second choice, looked over for Stefan and his self-torment.

Damon is a selfish man. He wants what he wants, and he usually goes for it. If he could find a way to make Elena want him and he thought he'd be better for her than Stefan, he'd take her. When he gets bored, he makes his own fun, even if that means creating a new vampire to play with for a while, or compelling someone into being his plaything - both for sex and blood. Their feelings are a moot point, because it's about what he wants and what he needs. Even if it's false comfort, he'll usually take it from one of his thralls as opposed to seeking out genuine affection from someone he knows, since it's more likely they'll either think he's lying or they'll use it against him. He's also ballsy in his contempt, willing to mouth off to vampires centuries older than he is. Bravado is as comfortable on him as contempt and vice is. If he's ever going to go out, he'll go with a bang and some kind of smartass remark.

Abilities/Powers:
  • Super Strength - Vampires are much stronger than humans and grow stronger with time. Even new vampires who are still in transition can toss a fully grown human across a room with great speed and force. Their strength is also more powerful than werewolves that are not in wolf form.
  • Super Speed - Vampires can accelerate their movements to cover short distances in an instant, faster than the human eye can see. When running across long distances, they appear as vibrating blurs of motion.
  • Emotional Control - Like all vampires, Damon has the ability to switch off his humanity.
  • Dream Manipulation - Vampires can control dreams and subconscious. The vampires can produce and modify dreams, bestow nightmares or lucid dreaming. Other effects of this ability is the distortion of reality and trapped in the dreams.
  • Heightened Senses - They can hear whispered conversations, even ones in far off buildings, smell blood, and see in total darkness.
  • Mind Compulsion - Vampires have the ability to control minds, plague people's dreams, and alter/erase human memories.
  • Immortality - A vampire stops aging once turned. Upon their transformation, vampires then on become immune to all conventional illness, disease, virus and infection. The only known disease or infection that can kill a vampire is a werewolf bite.
  • Healing Factor - Vampires can snap their finger bones back into place after being broken and have been seen to fully recover from gunshots, stab wounds, and torso impalement.

Sample Entry:
Now, I'm not one to complain here, but if you expect me to not go on a bloodthirsty rampage without alcohol, you're severely kidding yourselves. I get it, booze isn't readily available, but I should just warn you that unless one of you, or more, want to volunteer to be my walking Lunchable, you might want to look at fixing that little problem.

[The camera shows him lounging on the couch in what must be his room.]

Where's the maid service? I mean, really. This place reeks, and I'm willing to bet it's a little rank for even most of you. You want me to live here? Blah, blah, survivalism, yeah, I got that, but that doesn't excuse living in a sty.

[He sits up, looking around the room for a moment before staring back at the screen]

I'm going to go see what I can find in terms of things to drink. I hope, completely for my own sake and with literally no regard to any of you, that I come up with some. Maybe it'll wash the taste of whatever died in here out of my mouth.

Sample Entry Two:
It was quiet in the lodge, a rare occasion that Damon was taking advantage of. No Klaus blustering in and demanding things, no Rebekah coming in to whine about what a shit her brother was. No Stefan giving him thinly-veiled looks of suspicion and mistrust. And no Elena. No Elena to mix up an already muddled situation. Sometimes he wanted to grab her, shake her, rattle some sense into that brain of hers. Couldn't she see that he loved her? Of course she did. She just enjoyed trailing him along on that leash of hers, just like Katherine. Keeping him as the spare Salvatore, stuffed in the closet to bring out for emergencies and holidays. That was the part that grated on him the most. He knew better. He'd been through this before with Katherine, though he'd been naive and had walked blindly into that one. He knew better this time, and he was still following after her like a lovesick puppy. It made him sick.

He was sitting on his bed, back propped up on the headboard, legs crossed at the ankle as he tried to lose himself in one of his favorite books, 'Call of the Wild', by Jack London. Of course, he'd also taken an interest in Poe when he'd changed, finding the macabre themes more to his liking in his darker state of mind, but when he was in need of some stability, some balance and perspective on his thinking, he fell back into familiar habits.

"He felt strangely numb. As though from a great distance, he was aware that he was being beaten. The last sensations of pain left him. He no longer felt anything, though very faintly he could hear the impact of the club upon his body. But it was no longer his body, it seemed so far away."

Damon had only been able to glimpse at understanding the true tone of the book when he'd been alive. In his afterlife, he found an ironic sort of glee in realizing he was more in tune with the true theme of it than he'd ever been while his heart still pumped. There were a handful or more of captions that struck out at him, that he empathized with. This was one of them. He was still beaten by the club of his own need for love, and it was wielded by first Katherine, then Stefan, and now Elena. He was numb to the pain by now, by the constant knowledge that he'd never be the first one any of them ever thought of. He was the second choice, even though he was the firstborn. It was a strange sort of turnaround for the elder son to live in the shadow of the younger, but... there it was. Damon had made due with living in that shadow. He'd carved his own niche and had sought a sort of comfort from it. He still wanted, of course. Still wanted that elusive thing that always slipped his grasp; love. But he could find willing, or unwilling partners to fake it with.

But for now, he just enjoyed the moment of calm, likely the lull before the storm hit again and everything went to hell, but he enjoyed it nonetheless. Enjoyed it and tried to pretend he wasn't thinking of all the things he couldn't have.

Personality:I love this place, and I love my grandmother even more.
Shiemi has lived the majority of her life a shy and weak-bodied girl, sheltered away from others because of her inability to truly be around people. Never attending school, she spent her all of her youth growing up within the walls of the home she shared with her mother and grandmother – a home which functioned as a shop for the nearby exorcists of the True Cross Order. While her mother busily took care of things for the shop, Shiemi spent her time with her grandmother who taught her everything she knew about gardening and the legend of the Garden of Amahara: a beautiful place, hidden somewhere in the world, where God has gathered all of the plants in the world. Growing up with the stories gave Shiemi a newfound sense of confidence – the little girl that didn’t like going outside safety of their garden decided that the Garden of Amahara was somewhere she wanted to find, even if meant traveling the world.

It slowly began to show as well and by the time she met Yukio, a boy her age but already an exorcist—despite her shyness, and even running away at first, she manages to give him a clover: a charm against evil spirits. So in a way, he becomes the first friend she has that is also her age and slowly opens up a little more toward him in the times they are able to meet over the next two years.

Her grandmother’s sudden death ends the girl’s slow growth of confidence and eagerness to go out into the world. She begins to burden herself with blame of her grandmother’s death, wilting back into the weak and shy girl she had been before. In her state of mourning and self blame, the garden begins to fall into ruin as Shiemi desperately tries to keep everything as her grandmother had. In her lowest point, the sheltered and naïve girl allows herself to fall into the hands of a demon. Although gullible, it show her strong dedication and selfless nature to do anything she can – even if that means lending “her power” to the demon, which in truth turns out to be her actual life force as the demon works into her unsettled heart. As time passes, its ‘roots’ begin to appear on her legs and before long she has lost all use of them, but she continued to fight against the odds in order to take care of the garden. Her determination never faltered, even if it slowly began to ruin her relationship with her mother who wanted to send her away from the garden.

She became completely focused and devoted to the care of the garden, her body growing weaker by the day.

It isn’t until Yukio and his older twin brother, Rin, step in to take of things that she is confronted with the thought that this is not something her grandmother would want for her. She admits, weeping, that she knew her grandmother would never want this and how stupid she was to allow this to happen. Although the demon takes possession of her – the twins are able to defeat the demon, Shiemi is able to apologize to her mother and in a turn of events: Shiemi begins attending the exorcist cram school on Yukio’s suggestion.

Upon entering the cram school, it becomes clear how much of cheerful, kind-hearted though slightly naïve girl, Shiemi truly is. She truthful, admitting to being weak and knowing nothing of the world and believes training as an exorcist will help her not only become stronger but learn as much as she can about the world. But in the face of her less than grand grades, and Bon's words cause her to worry if she really belongs in the cram school. She tries to change this, and her determination becomes apparent once more in this want to become stronger but as mentioned she is both naïve and gullible due to a life spent away from other people. When Rin tells Bon that Shiemi and he are not friends, Shiemi becomes focused on making friends of her own so she doesn’t have to rely on Rin or Yukio, so she seeks out in trying to befriend the only other girls in the class – Kamiki Izumo and Paku Noriko. Despite Izumo’s harsh nature, Shiemi still pleads with the girl to be her friend. Izumo agrees but for malicious reasons that due to Shiemi’s nativity she does not notice because in her mind, she doing nothing but helping her friend because that’s what friends do. When Rin confronts her about it, she admits that she’s always hiding behind someone and having to be helped – how much she hates it and all she wants is to be strong so she can help someone in her own way. It’s in this time that she really shows how much she does want to grow and become stronger when she witnesses Rin’s own strength when he doesn’t hesitate to run to help Paku and Kamiki when they’re attacked, she runs after him instead of going to Yukio as Rin told her to.

She quickly takes control of the situation, telling Rin to distract the demon while she attended to Paku’s wounds. It’s in thanks to her quick thinking and the help of her familiar, that she is able to save Paku who thanks her. After this, she admits to Rin that she is still unsure if she wants to be an exorcist but she does know she’d like to at least be useful to everyone – using her own unique skills for everyone’s benefits and not just running errands. When their group is attacked; again she is quick to use her familiar to create a large wooden barrier to keep the demons at bay and the others safe. Despite her stamina being drained to the point of passing out from the stress of keeping the barrier up, she thinks not of herself but instead shows her selfless nature once more by instead voicing her concern for Izumo’s well being – worried because she had not been attacking herself. Her actions earn her the gratitude and thanks of the other pages. Despite her worry and hesitation, after talking with Yukio and an incident were Rin gets hurt she tells the brothers that she’s decided and accepts her promotion to the position of esquire.

During the missions to the amusement park, and again in the forest -- Shiemi, herself, is able to tell just how much she's grown now that she's made friends and the experiences she gets to share with them but when everyone learns about Rin and Yukio's true heritage following the training camp in the forest, Shiemi begins to shy away from both of the boys. Not out of fear, but from her inability to say what she wants to say. Although she finally understood Rin's words from when they first met, she realizes she truly knows nothing about either of the twins despite being close to them. It only grows worse as she realizes she doesn’t know what to do or say when faced with Rin, only able to turn and run away from the situation to keep from having to deal with the issues that might arise. Her nature is called out indirectly by Izumo on the train ride to Kyoto, calling people who say they’re friends when all they do is run away at the most crucial of times are nothing but cowards.

Upon arrival in Kyoto, she sets a goal for herself: to not fail and not cause any more trouble for anyone.

She decides that it was her chance to redeem herself and sets off to do all she can for those that have become sick. But instead, her motivation and determination continue to drop as she realizes that do to her unreliability she won’t be capable of calling Wii-chan out again, whom she hasn’t been capable of summoning since the attack at the camp. When Izumo confronts her, Shiemi completely breaks down and expresses all her doubts and fears from being useless to her friends to feeling weak for not being able to do anything for Yukio or Rin. She tells her how frustrating it is, and all she wants is to become strong. Izumo tells her that Shiemi is as bold as a weed, or rather shameless – for being able to admit such things without being embarrassed. Instead of being taking it as an insult, Shiemi takes the words to let her confidence take root and tells the other girl that she likes weed, so she’ll do her best just like weeds do and telling the others to wait for her.

Shiemi continues working hard, helping do all she can with the others in Kyoto. Even Izumo comments that she is back to her old self, the person that is optimistic and smiling no matter what and who speaks to everyone without ever feeling a sense of shame. Shiemi seems surprised by this observation, wondering if people really thought of her but admits that although she’s still afraid and she still hasn’t fully recovered her confidence but she’ll start off small so one day soon she’ll talk to Rin and Yukio as they did before.

When the group finds out that Rin is to be executed, Shiemi is the first to speak up saying they should rescue him. She tells them that even if they make war with the Vatican, they would all regret it more if they never got to see Rin again. It's inside the prison that Shiemi realizes she was so preoccupied with her own problems, she never once thought of Rin and as she calls herself a fool she reaches out and slowly begins to regain her confidence. It isn't until Izumo is face with danger does she fully grow again, calling Nii-chan back and admitting to Izumo with a smile that even if the other girl hates her... Shiemi would always like her.

Overall, Shiemi is still growing and forever learning. She can be clueless when it comes to typical things one might experience at her age. Nevertheless she is hardworking, incredibly loyal, filled with kindness and what seems to be endless amount optimism. Sometimes her self-confidence issues can bubble up but she has come a long way from the girl that was unable to even go near other people and now has capable of making friends that she can rely on.

Canon: Professor Layton

abstruse: anonanimal (Default)

[personal profile] abstruse 2012-11-06 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality: Clive is a young man with a master-plan, although he just skimmed by success; perhaps for the better of himself, and for London. He can maintain a strong gentlemanly disposition, and is an excellent puzzle solver, but he's got a seed of evil planted deep inside of him that's been growing for years now. Explaining his past comes first, in order to understand his future.

At about the age of ten, Clive tragically lost his parents in a fiery explosion, and was left completely homeless. The explosion itself was, as he came to learn later, the cause of political greed and scientific foolishness--or, rather, the failed attempt to Time Travel. Layton was the one to stop him from going into the burning building, which would have killed in the process. In time, Clive was adopted by Constance Dove, a kind old lady with a HUGE fortune to her name. When she passed, only a few short years later, Clive inherited this fortune, along with becoming a newspaper reporter. He dedicated his time as a reporter investigating the explosion, undercover from all others. Once finding the scientists behind the explosion, he vowed revenge.

Well, it wasn't revenge in his book. Clive labelled his 'pay-back' as justice. To rid the world of corrupt politicians and scientists. He did it out of love for his parents. It's justifiable, if you look over how many people he wanted to kill! And how many he did!!

Thus, Clive's main goal was justice, and truly wanted to make a better world. He used his cunning skills of deception to convince his own enemy, Dimitri, into believing that they were allies, determined to complete the same goals, and through him, convinced an entire city they were ten WHOLE years into the future. Confusing? It's unexplained how he managed such a massive task. Still, it was managed, and Clive held only a role in the shadows, keeping even his biggest plot hidden even from Dimitri.

He also deceived Luke and Layton, the heroes of the game, into thinking that he was, in fact, little Luke ten years into the future!! It was a convincing ruse, and even Layton himself was fooled to some extent (though the holes in Clive's plan always showed through). Luke and Flora were completely deceived up until the final revelation.

All bad? I think not! Clive was still a gentleman, and with the Professor and Luke, maintained this disposition very effectively. Once he forgets, nearly speeding by a man in need, until corrected by Luke. He again complies to his intended disguise and helps. Later he admits to Layton that he deeply enjoyed his time with Layton, even forgetting that he had something much bigger in mind, one that was falling apart as he continued to help Professor Layton to 'unwound' the future. His courtesy towards Flora always held true, and his patience with little Luke remained true.

He still goes through with his plan, flipping his lid and going batshit on London, busting out a goddamn mecha and kicking all the ass. Well, until his ass gets kicked. Defeated and on his way to jail, Layton asks why Clive allowed him to be dragged into Clive scheme. Clive knew that Layton would unravel his plans in a matter of days, and Layton knew this. Clive, downhearted, theorizes he did it for that very reason: that Layton might stop him, just as Layton had stopped ten years ago when he lost his parents. He swears then to turn over a new leaf, thanks to the Professor.

Clive, as a result of the events of the Unwound Future, mellows out considerably as a character. As he promises to Layton, it becomes his decision to rid himself of his dark side and looks to find a better person within him. However redeeming this may sound, there are still a love of pent up emotions inside of Clive. Because of this, Clive’s stability between good and evil is extremely weak, and could easily fall down the wrong path again with just the right push. As a result, he often seems very dubious in nature, neither a gentleman nor a criminal.

Strengths: Clive's strongest point is his brain and his words. A lot of what makes Clive such a BAD GUY in the game is because he's so damn MANIPULATIVE. Take for example: Dimitri. He was a desperate man, trying to find a way to fix his mistake and bring back the love of his life (Claire). Clive used his resources as a journalist to FIND Dimitri, and then played off of Dimitri's need for scientists to find and collect scientists of his own to work on the mecha. MORE THAN THAT! Clive some how managed to trick a whole city's population into believing that ten years had somehow passed, thus legitimizing Future London. AND He's a master of deception. For the most part, he wouldn't ABUSE this power, but he may use it to win over friends and allies.

Weaknesses: Clive is a wimp to the 10th degree. If you take a good look at him, he lacks all brawn. He couldn't throw a ball ten feet if he wanted to. Part of this is just looking at him, but in canon he does get slapped around a little by Bostro. At the very least, he has enough brawn to kidnap Flora. He seems to also have an emotional weakness to people who are generallt kind.

There's also the instability of being a liar--nobody can lie forever. Consequently, though he's technically TRYING to become a gentleman at this time point, he will still deceive people in order to make himself look more 'gentlemanly', which might include conceiling his past from those around him.

Character Name: Gary Smith
Canon: Bully
Canon Point: After he becomes “Head boy” at Bullworth Academy and gets Jimmy Hopkins expelled.

Background/History: Here ya' go!

Personality: To be put simply, Gary Smith is a bully.

He calls people names, mocks them, attacks people who are weaker with wedgies and a kick to the balls; overall he loves to make people miserable. He’s seemingly harmless at first. Most people assume Gary is all talk with his threats to “make people pay”. But he is vindictive, manipulative, and intelligent. Gary is the type of person who, if he didn’t like something you did, would manage to convince someone to attack you in a dark alley with a baseball bat. He doesn’t like to get his hands dirty, preferring to let others dirty their hands for him. And that is what makes him more dangerous than the other bullies at Bullworth Academy. Punching Gary will give him a black eye, but it won’t stop him from convincing the strongest jock on school grounds that you spoke trash about his mother.

He never stops thinking and most things he says, it’s for a reason. Upon first meeting Jimmy Hopkins he had already began to set his plan to take over the school into motion. He’s not afraid to play any card he has to get what he wants. When Jimmy asks him what his problem is he replies “ADD, primarily” and also lists “life” and “his parents”. He says it in a somewhat sarcastic manner, but it wouldn’t be at all surprising if he used those things as a sort of sympathy card, even if he didn’t elaborate on them at all. He also has the tendency to offer fake apologies after saying or doing something seriously out of line, and for the most part manages to sound genuinely sincere. But very little of what Gary says is genuine. He’s a pathological liar and is seemingly incapable of having an honest conversation or feeling any remorse for his deceptions.

When Gary was growing up his parents knew there was something off about him. His father insisted it was nothing but after a few years of Gary’s growing problematic behavior they finally sent him to a specialist. He was diagnosed with ADD and his parents were told he exhibited the behavioral patterns of a sociopath. They were advised to bring him in for several therapy sessions to keep him under control, but both his parents, neither having expected anything beyond a diagnosis that could be solved with medications, thought the specialist was insane for suggesting such a thing and took Gary home. When he became more of a problem and neither of his parents were willing to deal with him, they took him back to a specialist. Gary went through four different therapists until his mother sent him away to Bullworth Academy saying “he’s their problem now”, where he saw Dr. Bambillo.

Gary quickly gained a bad reputation at Bullworth as a “sociopath”, “bully”, “snake”, among other things. He is open with his horrible behavior and not once hides the fact that he wants to take over the school. Despite that, he manages to manipulate others into trusting him in order to set his plan into motion. Waving him off is a big mistake, as Jimmy proves when he ignores Pete’s warnings that “Gary’s up to something”, and ends up losing control of all the cliques in the school and getting suspended.

Gary is not always calm and calculating. In fact, he’s quite unstable. One moment he can be relaxing or getting involved in normal teenage hijinks, and the next moment he’s hostile and shouting, putting together a plan to descend an entire student body into chaos. Gary’s goals can be summed up quite easily; control. He wants to control people, the school, and his life. Without control and power, you might as well have nothing in his eyes. His entire mentality can be summed up on one quote that he says to Jimmy after revealing his plan to take over the school:

“It’s sink or swim. And if you’re good at swimming, you gotta’ let the losers drown.”

But underneath it all, Gary Smith is really just a teenager acting out in retaliation to a world he deems unfair. He genuinely believes his way is the right way and that he’s totally justified in his actions. He felt as if he was dealt a bad hand and so he lied and cheated his way to a better one. Neglected most of his life by his parents? Decides he doesn’t need anyone. Miserable in his own home? Make everyone else just as miserable as he is. In his mind, he has it all figured out. He is the very definition of denial, delusion, narcissism, but if anyone were to point this out he’d probably just send a man with a chainsaw after them.

Abilities/Powers: Gary doesn't have any abilities in the way of magic or fighting skills. He'll fight like you'd expect a teenager to, but nothing special. His real talents are in the way he manipulates people, his quick thinking, and his ability to learn things quickly. If push came to shove he could defend himself with a baseball bat, but he is much better at evading danger by using his head.

Sample Entry:
How Gary deals with being confronted about his delusions and acting like a normal teen for the first time in one post. Also slightly high on magic flowers.

Sample Entry Two:
Gary didn’t like that kid, Trent Northwick. He was an imbecile. Though, in his defense, Gary didn’t like most people. Everyone in this school was a moron in some way or another, but Trent, for now...was the one who needed to be taught a lesson. It wasn’t so much of what he did, but how he acted. Tough, in charge. But no, this was Gary’s school. And the second that blond ape shoved past him as if he were nothing, Gary knew he had to take him down a peg or two. To show him that Gary was not a force to be reckoned with. Gary pushed himself off the locker as Trent walked by, watching him. Scrutinizing his every move. Pete Kowalski furrowed his brows at him, sighing when he realized what was going on.

“Gary...who’re you after this time?”

Gary took a moment to respond, still watching Trent. He had stopped at his locker to get something, taking his sweet time opening it, looking over his shoulder as if he was expecting someone. Then Gary noticed something. Trent looked at the locker beside his, gaze lingering.

“Hey, femme-boy.” He didn’t tear his gaze from Trent as he addressed Petey. “Northwick’s locker is between Davis White and Kirby Olsen’s...right?”

“Uh...yeah, I think so.”

Gary didn’t say a word as he casually scanned the halls. Right, Kirby Olsen. It was painfully obvious the two had been dating, at least to Gary. His suspicions had been confirmed after Jimmy saw them holding hands. Gary didn’t really care, but he filed that bit of information away for a rainy day. Looked like that day was today. Once he spotted Kirby in the hall, he turned to Petey and waited until the jock was walking right past them.

“Sorry about the whole, Trent-turning-out-to-be-a-two-timer thing, Petey. You guys were such a precious couple.”

Petey’s eyes widened and he opened his mouth to say something, but before either of them knew it Kirby was grabbing Gary’s arm and spinning him around, nostrils flaring. He knew Gary knew. He did. Because it was common knowledge that Gary had eyes and ears everywhere. It’s why Kirby didn’t bother to be discreet about his anger, and why people generally didn’t mess with him. Unless they needed to be taught a lesson.

“What’d you say, psycho?”

Gary threw his hands up in mock defense. “Whoa, easy there, friend. I was just trying to cheer up Petey here. He didn’t know about...you know.”

Kirby’s freckled face was red as he turned to glare at Petey before releasing Gary. He rushed down the hall, towards Trent and charged at him like a bull, shouting something about “giving him some poundcake”. Maybe Kirby Olsen spent way too much time as the Bullworth mascot, but he resembled the closest thing to a bull at that moment. Gary’s lips pulled back into a devious smirk as he watched Kirby beat the hell out of Trent.

“Uh, Gary?” Petey waved a hand in front of his face. “What did Trent do--?”

“He needed to be taught a lesson.”

And later on, when Trent was too beat up to do anything about it, Gary will pay him a visit in the infirmary and would make sure to let him know that this was the result of not knowing his place. Not knowing that this was Gary’s School.

Character Name: Shane Walsh. (mostly going by Shane)
Canon: The Walking Dead
Canon Point: Post Season 2 episode "Better Angels" after being murdered by Rick Grimes.
Background/History: Canon Background | Shane Background
Previous Game History: N/A | N/A
Personality:

Shane Walsh is described as a loose canon, as someone reckless and someone who adapts to the brave new world a little too easily. Joss Whedon once said however, that you can never know a man until you see him at his weakest moments. Shane is brought to his knees at least three times during the series and we learn that he is loyal, ready to kill for those who he wants to protect. We learn that he's always had a reckless streak, that when compared to others in his profession perhaps he does it for the wrong reasons. We also learn that he loves deeply and perhaps feels isolated and alone. The biggest thing however is that Shane is a product of his environment and the world he lives in. He is a different man then the one we see vaguely at the beginning of the series, going from a man who is a decent person to a man who is willing to kill his best friend and steal his best friend's wife not out of malice or hating him but because he feels that he can protect them better.

That's the tragedy of the Walking Dead. When civilization is stripped from a human being the question of where will they go and what will they become is paramount on the human mind. Society is a construct and there are some people who are willing to build it and some people who can function just fine without it. Shane is one of those people, someone who is willing to murder to get something that he wants. Had he been allowed to live it's difficult to predict how he might have regressed further, but while Rick's time on the barge would be impressed with the amenities, Shane will initially be disgusted by the barge and feel angry that the people who he wants to care about in his warped sense of mind can't enjoy the same thing that these supposed "criminals" are enjoying. That will be something that gets him through the early months until he acknowledges his own mistakes.

Shane is inherently loyal and a decent human being. In the beginning he cared about his best friend a great deal and he holds him in high esteem. His initial feelings about the man's wife are there, they did and do exchange glances occasionally but when the chips are down Shane wants to get him out of there or at least try to. When he realizes that he can't he assumes the most logical conclusion (that Rick had died). The concept of "assumptions making an ass out of you and me" cannot exist in an apocalyptic wasteland. Shane clearly acted in Rick's best interest knowing that Lori and Carl deserve to live.

The biggest relationship is between Shane and the Grimes family. Shane was a welcome guest in the Grimes home with he and Rick quietly ribbing each other and Shane performing basic tasks around the house. Shane had a close relationship with Carl, Rick's son and had a relationship with Lori as well that was friends bordering on polite interest. When the world ended they came together and Shane, immersed in the destruction realizes that they were important and that he missed out. As he tells Rick, "I thought I was keeping them alive but they were keeping me alive." It's the truth. All of his life he lived with isolation and when he realized what was really important he decided that he'd have the will to fight for it.

The reasons behind his abusive treatment of Lori has to do with his sense of isolation and inability to deal with his own screw ups. His own acknowledgement that - in short his life was wasted. Hence his irrational attachments. (something that even Rick recognizes. "You don't love her, you just think you do.") a good idea would get him to find somebody to care about, but that may not be entirely possible.

Hence his reaction to Rick returning. The two of them swim in the oldest fight known to man - my mate versus yours. Shane is an alpha male, someone who wants to take charge without the civilizing aspect. He's dangerous when things that he wants to take care of are taken away, hence his ultimate reaction and his ultimate downfall.

Abilities/Powers: Shane, due to his training as a police officer is an expert marksman. His weapon of choice is a glock 9mm or a shotgun (depending on the circumstances). He's reasonably good with hand-to-hand combat, however Rick can surpass him in that particular area.

Shane's biggest weakness however is that he has no morality left, his compass completely destroyed by his own actions as well as the world around him. That makes him dangerous, as a man with nothing to lose is a man who will do anything to survive.

Character Name: Lori Grimes
Canon: The Walking Dead
Canon Point: Post her death.
Background/History: Lori @ TWD wiki
Personality: Lori was just your average middle class housewife living in Cynthiana, Kentucky with husband Rick and their young son Carl. A constant in their lives was Rick's best friend Shane Walsh. She had learned to struggle on her own after Rick was shot and ended up in a coma. She remained that ever faithful wife just waiting for him to wake up. When the world went to hell she had to leave with Shane and Carl, believing Rick to be dead. She still felt guilt for leaving him behind and held on to that gimmer of hope given to her by Shane that Rick was dead and that he'd be saved from all of this. When Rick shows up she suddenly feels guilty for leaving him there to suffer. She's angry at Shane who told her that Rick was gone. Believing her husband to be dead she begins a relationship with Shane. Having leaned on him to keep her and her son safe and having known him so long it seemed a reasonable course of action. It's When Rick shows up she suddenly feels guilty, as if she cheated on her husband even though she believed him to be gone. It's something she had to struggle and come to terms with. There is a part of her that is in love with Shane but her loyalty to family will win out.

When she finds out she's pregnant she has a moment of panic because she's not sure who the father is since sleeping with Rick since he'd been back she had no way of knowing. At first she decides to try and get rid of it but that motherly side of her just won't let her. She carries the weight of the baby around with her. Dealing with both Rick and Shane saying it's their baby. She also tries her best to be a mother to her son Carl all the while worried about him growing up too hardened by the life he is forced to live now. She tries to keep some semblance of normalcy in this new world by having chores for the women to do such as the cooking and laundry. Of course this met by both relief to have something normal and hostility from some.

She's outgoing and tries her best to keep everyone together. She becomes close with Carol Peletier as her daughter Sophia played with Carl often because they were the only children. She however is often at odds with Andrea who feels being tasked menial woman's work is degrading. Part of it Lori figured stemmed from Andrea's own fling with Shane. She tries to keep the peace in the group in support of her husband who is the group's leader. It stresses her out but she's determined to make due with what they have. She can also be manipulative to try and fix things she'd done like whispering in Rick's ear about Shane thinking the baby was his:

"Shane thinks I'm his. He thinks the baby is his, and he says you can't protect us. He's dangerous, Rick."

Then goes into telling Rick no matter what it's his. She is also there to try and give Rick some perspective after he was forced to kill another person and told him:

"You killed the living to protect what's yours."

Of course when Rick ends up killing Shane to most it seems she was upset that Rick killed him. In truth it was more so the fact her young son ended up having to shoot and kill Shane when he came back as a walker. She fights to try and keep her son as innocent as she can while worrying about bringing a baby into this world. Things become strained after the death of Shane where her and Rick just don't seem to connect. She fears that her husband hates her as she struggled with the pending birth of a baby. That and hearing how Rick wanted to kill him, wanted it to be over. She feared he was becoming just like Shane.
Abilities/Powers: Lori is your typical run of the mill human. Only abilities she has is she's a pretty decent shot which comes in handy for killing Walkers.
Sample Entry: [A hesitant voice sounds through the phones. It's been awhile since she's used one.]

Hello? Anyone out there? Rick? Carl? Wait why am I calling for them. Can someone tell me where I am? I need to get back to my son, and my husband.

[She waits for an answer that doesn't come. So she tries a different tactic.]

Look I ain't got any problem with kicking the living's ass if need be. I'll do what I gotta to protect what's mine.

[Still nothing.]

Please, I need to get back can't leave them to face that without me.

[A sigh before it goes dead.]
Sample Entry Two: They are moving through the woods and she keeps glancing back at Carl making sure he's caught up. She doesn't know when it happens but one moment Carl is there safe behind her and the next he is gone. She's frantic as she looks around and no one can be found. She's all alone and her son is missing. She tells herself he just found something until she hears him scream out for her.

"Mom! Mom help me!"

Lori takes off running towards his voice. She can hear him desperately calling her but it seems she just isn't moving. Her legs begin to burn from the effort to get to her son. She finally sees him and he looks okay.

"Carl what are you do--"

Words are cut off by her own scream as to her horror she watched as her little boy is swarmed by walkers. She rushed to him but it was too late. She could see him struggling as the walkers bit down into his flesh. She felt like part of her was dying inside as she began shooting them off of him. When she finally got to him she knew. She knew he was gone even as he looked up at her and was only able to utter a single weak word.

"Mom..."

The tears started without a warning as she cradled him. She knew what she had to do but god she wished someone else was around. She settled him down and stood taking out her revolver. She took aim and looked away as she pulled the trigger. She wouldn't let Carl become one of those things. She knew he'd do the same for her.

=====

Somewhere in a dark cell Lori wakes up with a scream. When Carol comes to see if she was alright Lori just couldn't speak. She didn't move until Carl came in, and that was to grab her son and hold him tight. That was the worst dream a mother could ever have. Carl didn't know why she was clinging so tight, but he was a smart boy. He knew for whatever reason she needed it right now. Maybne she'd tell him later.

Character Name: Kyon
Canon: The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (Novels)
Canon Point: After the events of "Snowy Mountain Syndrome" (Vol. 5 The Rampage of Haruhi Suzumiya)
Background/History: Wiki Novel Summaries

He was a normal high schooler, living a normally boring life, having outgrown his hopes of encountering the supernatural since the end of his junior high school years. He had begun to accept this as fact once he entered high school, and if that was how things were to go, then he wouldn't hold any complaint. Little did he know that his perfectly mundane life would be turned upside-down upon meeting Haruhi Suzumiya.

Unwittingly, Kyon's choice to attempt interaction with the strange girl in his class that proclaimed she was bored by normal people and wanted to meet aliens, espers, time travelers and sliders triggered the eventual formation of the SOS Brigade. While this would have been perfectly fine, Kyon would have preferred that he be left out of its actual association. Instead, he is dragged into it with the excuse of 'It was your idea!' and has since then been subject to more craziness than he can shake a stick at. He later finds out that he has been an even greater influence on Haruhi Suzumiya than he realized at first, although this would never have been revealed without the help of a certain time traveler. It gets rather complicated, really. Although Haruhi remains oblivious of all the strange occurances that originate from her, Kyon has found himself in the company of an alien, a time-traveler, and yes- even an esper. He's wondered what that made him- the normal one, being surrounded by such people.

And so as the world begins to believe that it revolves around an otherwise oblivious Haruhi, Kyon finds himself the only one who's actually aware of it, if only because he's so informed by his fellow club members. One by one he learns that his normal world is actually not so normal after all, and that Yuki Nagato is an alien, Mikuru Asahina is a time traveler, and Itsuki Koizumi is an esper. They all claim that due to an event three years ago, the world has suddenly changed, and despite the differing beliefs as to what exactly occurred, all hold to the fact that it involves one Haruhi Suzumiya. Naturally Kyon finds this hard to believe, but as the days go by, things begin to happen that make it impossible to ignore.

His first exposure to these undeniable facts is when one of his classmates, Ryoko Asakura, glibly informs him that she's going to kill him in order to get a reaction from Haruhi. Yuki comes to his rescue, both her and Ryoko revealing during their battle that they are in fact aliens subordinate to the Integrated Data Sentient Entity. Things only get more bizarre from then on, with Kyon being treated to proof of the abilities of the time traveler and esper of the group. He has a hard time trying to see why he of all people is the one being divulged with this information when obviously Haruhi would be the one that would benefit from it. He has an even harder time believing that he has some influence on Haruhi, the girl responsible for the chaos that has stricken his life. It becomes apparent but no less clearer for him in the events that follow one of Haruhi's depressive bouts. Unlike the occassional cases of closed space that would occur, in which Itsuki alongside other espers, would have to deal with gargantuan glowing beings that represented Haruhi's frustration, it came to a point where the world as they knew it would be destroyed and replaced with another version as Haruhi would reenvision it. Kyon finds himself caught in this closed space with Haruhi, the fate of the world left up to him and only the cryptic hints from Mikuru and Yuki to work with.

Of course things work out, the world goes on the following day as though nothing happened, and no one but the others in the SOS Brigade would know that it had been saved by a kiss.

It would be nice to say that things fall into some semblance of normal from then on, that there aren't any more threats and Haruhi Suzumiya stops thinking irrationally. Unfortunately that just wouldn't work out, and for Kyon, there's never too much of a lapse in activities before something happens that threatens to turn his life upside-down again. And it wouldn't always be faulted under that girl.

It's a dramatic shift of perspective for Kyon when he wakes up one day to find that there is no Haruhi Suzumiya, nor an SOS Brigade. Itsuki Koizumi and his entire class don't exist, Mikuru Asahina is a normal upperclassman, and Yuki Nagato is a shy member of the literature club. Even though he's surrounded by familiar faces, Kyon still feels alone, and desperately he tries to seek a way out of this strange alternate reality that he's been shoved into. As always, it's Yuki that he relies on, and it's from Yuki that he receives the key to right things. It becomes a complex process, and from an alternate reality to a jump back in time, it's back to a jump forward in order to set things back on track, and he would have never guessed that the very girl that he so often relies on to get him out of things would be the one that had caused such changes in the first place.

In the beginning, it would have been easy for Kyon to say he would much prefer going back to his normal, everyday boring life in the name of self-preservation. In hindsight, he has realized that with all the things he has been able to experience, someone that would want to return to such a lifestyle would be crazy. He's stuck with the madness- relived countless summer days in an endless summer vacation, traveled back in time twice (three times? More?), nearly been killed by a classmate who was revealed to really be an alien entity, trapped in an alternate dimension, and the list goes on and probably will so long as he involves himself with the SOS Brigade, or more namely, Haruhi Suzumiya.

Personality:
By his own words, Kyon doesn't describe himself as anything extraordinary. He considers himself normal by the most normal of standards, and perhaps for the most part, this has been true for his life until he entered high school. It was here at North High that his outlook was completely upturned.

It started with a girl, and that girl led to a question that ultimately upset any further plans for a mundane student life. It's a point he often reflects on, a point that he often scolds himself for having ever bridged that fine line of curiosity and minding his own business, and yet he knows but hardly ever admits to himself save under the most extreme of circumstances that he's glad that things turned out the way they did.

Kyon's a boy of continuous thought, of deep speculation and running commentary. He likes to think of himself as the voice of reason that naturally no one pays any attention to, and the fact that he stubbornly grounds himself with things like common sense when all the world around him goes crazy is probably what makes him all the more an ideal candidate for having to shoulder the responsibilities as so have been thrusted upon him by being Haruhi Suzumiya's chosen. He's like the buoy that stays afloat in one place despite being buffetted by the waves in the wake of S.S. Haruhi. He still doesn't like the implications of that, and still doesn't quite understand why him of all people, but over the months that he's gotten to know the self-proclaimed head of the SOS Brigade and her underlings a.k.a. his fellow victims, Kyon has slowly discovered that he actually doesn't mind how crazy his life has become.

Funny how things like that happen. You never miss something until it's gone- it's an adage he's realized the truth of from personal experience. While it's always easy to complain and panic and be upset about things as they're happening, once you're given space to breathe and take a look back, you often find some way to appreciate those experiences, some way or another. How many people can boast that they've saved the present world as everyone knows it, or faced off against a giant cave cricket and survived? Of course, no one would believe him if he ever said anything of the sort, but Kyon, as a person of common sense, knows better than to go spouting off such madness- sometimes even he has a hard time believing he'd really gone through such things. Hop back and forth in time to keep things in motion? Repair broken realities? Watch himself get stabbed? -okay, the last he could really really do without, but for all the bad things that happen, he's amazingly accepting of it all.

It might be considered a strange strength. Kyon has an amazing adaptability to situations, and perhaps even he's not exactly aware as to just how much so. That's not to say that the boy is incapable of losing his cool. Yes, even that bored expression that's almost always on his face can be removed- although most of the time easily done so by Haruhi's antics. He may have a calm, casual air about him most of the time, but he does care about things, about people, about his friends, his family and the world he lives in. He's been in life-threatening situations and has panicked as appropriate, but for all the stress in a dilemma that he's faced with, there's some line of rational thought that always seems to work. This isn't always enough to keep him out of trouble, but that's usually when Yuki Nagato pops in, something he's always very thankful of. Reliant as he is on the quiet, self-proclaimed alien, Kyon has also learned that perhaps he shouldn't look to the girl too much for everything. Through his quiet observations he's noticed the subtle changes that have taken place, the slightest changes in her otherwise stoic expressions. He's come to notice a lot of little things about his fellow Brigade members, as well as the significance of his position and with that, the acceptance of his responsibilities.

Abilities/Powers:
Kyon is your average teenager with no supernatural abilities to speak of, whatsoever. If there's anything he's good at, it's having an accumulation of sometimes useless knowledge in pop culture, as well as being rather persistent when it comes to dealing with things. A notable thing about him would be his ability to adjust or deal with situations, no matter how intense or out of this world they can be. Weird occurences? After being exposed to the strangeness of Haruhi Suzumiya, he's pretty primed for anything. Yet, Kyon is quite the norm for a student, and although he's not completely hopeless in sports, the only thing that gives him an edge when he's threatened is adrenaline to make sure he doesn't get himself killed. The key thing about him in regards to his fellow SOS Brigade members would be the significant influence he has on them

Sample Entry:
Well. This is just great. Just when you thought your trips would be limited only to past and future aside from the occasional closed space.

[He sighs, pausing to glance around, half hoping that the scenery might change with a second look. Honestly he looks more exhausted about the situation than worried out of his mind. That'll come later.]

...or I could be dreaming. A guy can hope, at least.

[Hesitantly, he feels the back of his head. No blunt force trauma, no pain from possible stabbings...]

I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing at this rate. [Sad when you start to look at situations in that light.]

This thing's working, right? That would be a pretty crappy stunt to pull, on top of all this. I don't suppose anyone's got the name of this dimension? ...hah. That was a joke, you don't have to answer- okay, never mind.

Sample Entry Two:
Usually he was able to recall the events that led up to his current predicament. In fact, he had considered himself to be quite good at that, save for a select few times, but the circumstances in those instances were beyond his control, and anyway, everything had been made right those times.

But that was then and this was now. Currently he found himself lying on his back, staring up at an unfamiliar ceiling of questionable hygiene. He really didn't want to see what the rest of the place looked like, much less the bed beneath him. Brow furrowing, the boy that would forever be known as Kyon sat up, holding onto a sliver of hope that perhaps the room would change as he did so, or maybe he'd wake up for real.

     No deal. He sighed.

What happened now? Don't tell me she's gone and done something again.... At least send me somewhere familiar!

He got off the bed, patting his blazer and his pockets; Nothing? I should at least have- "Ah-hah!" came his triumphant exclamation, the smile that flitted across his face fading just as abruptly. This wasn't his phone. "...beggars can't be choosers, isn't that the saying? I'll take what I can get." At least it seemed serviceable. Was that the clue he was looking for, though? Usually whenever he was thrown into such a situation, there was always something to get him out of it. Come on Nagato, throw me a breadcrumb. Or Asahina-san (Big) can just come through that door and give me my mission objective. ...hell, I'll even settle for Koizumi appearing at the window-

With that thought, Kyon crossed the room to the window, looking outside. His face fell as he looked at the bleak view beyond, and the foreboding billboard that greeted him.

     "....what..?"

Character Name: Reimu Hakurei
Canon: Touhou Project
Canon Point: Chapter 13 of Wild and Horned Hermit
Background/History: Here. This gives a rundown of the setting.

A couple of notes!
1. The word youkai is used only because translating it as "demon" or "spirit" doesn't really work in Touhou's context. Nearly anyone who isn't a human or a god is a youkai. For example, fairies, witches, and vampires are youkai. In favor of more specific terms, I'll try to avoid the word!

2. Touhou is mainly a series of shooting games, but a ton of its canon takes place in manga, side stories, etc. It also doesn't have an overarching plot, for the most part. It's more like a series of snapshots over several years.

3. The PC-98 games (Touhou 1~5) are on uncertain ground in terms of being canon. There are a number of references to them, but the creator has also stated that there's supposed to be a "clean sweep" after Touhou 5. There's even more conflicting information, like the fact that Reimu's Touhou 6 profile says that the game's events take place shortly after Touhou 5. Since it's so vague, I'll try to avoid horribly specific references to the PC-98 games' events.

Personality: "A shrine maiden that doesn’t think much about anything."

Reimu would sort of like to do the bare minimum required for her job. On the one hand, she takes parts of her duty - protecting humans and disciplining youkai - seriously, but on the other hand, she really doesn't want to study or train unless she has good reason to. As a result, she has strange holes in her knowledge of things she really ought to know, like the name of the god that lives in her shrine. Her luck, intuition, and natural talent usually carry her through her problems, so she sees no point in working hard when her current abilities are enough to get the job done. Even her idea of effort is a little skewed, and she tends to spend time looking for quick, easy ways to make her shrine successful rather than work for its success directly. She'll take shortcuts when she can, but she does feel some obligation to being a shrine maiden - she gets worried when her reputation among humans is at stake, for example, or when someone threatens to close down her shrine. Her shrine, people's safety, and the overall order of Gensokyo are important to her. When any of these are threatened, her sense of duty overrides her own desires. If she's convinced enough that she needs to train, then she will. It's less that she's lazy and more that she only thinks about the present; she's strong enough to get by, so she sees no point in expending more effort than necessary. Preparing for the future just isn't something that occurs or seems necessary to her, with her idle and often isolated lifestyle. She doesn't shirk her duties when it matters, though, and in the right situation she can be very hardworking. In a chapter of Wild and Horned Hermit where her shrine's popularity surges, she keeps pressing on even when she's worked herself to absolute exhaustion.

So it's no surprise that she's somewhat no-nonsense once she's on the job, even if her attitude toward youkai is complicated. She doesn't hold anything against youkai personally, but she knows that causing trouble is in their nature (vital to their existence, even) and that keeping them in line is her job, so she tries to be strict when she deals with them. She doesn't hesitate to exterminate them (i.e. defeat them in a spell card battle). Despite this, she commonly befriends the youkai she beats up. Outside of an incident, she's just as likely to drink tea with a youkai as she is to beat one up without rhyme or reason. Even kindness toward youkai isn't out of the question; in Silent Sinner in Blue, she gives a wounded youkai her bed and stays up all night trying to get a doctor. Humans get similar treatment - Reimu's kind when she feels like it and a jerk when she feels like it, with the only difference being that beating up humans isn't something she does unless she has to. Don't expect special treatment from her, whether you're a friend, a god, or an authority figure. ("If you get in my way, I'll treat you like an enemy.") Ultimately, she doesn't want anybody to be in real danger. Symposium of Post-Mysticism implies that she wants a peace where violence isn't necessary, even if she refuses to admit it.

That kindness can be hard to see, though. It's easy to mistake her for a jerk. Reimu is simple in that she generally does and says whatever comes to mind, with no particular filtering. Her speech is completely blunt and straightforward. She doesn't consider (or care about) people's feelings when she speaks - she barely thinks about what she says, period. She's honest by default, and holding back what she thinks or feels doesn't come naturally to her, to the point where she's a terrible liar. Her manners are seriously lacking as well. She knows to say certain things like "mister" or "thanks," but her behavior itself shows little understanding (caring? thinking?) of manners. If something you own is interesting, she'll just pick it up and fiddle with it without bothering to ask for permission. She'll barge into a stranger's house without a second thought. It's hard to say whether it's naivete or bravery, but danger isn't much of a deterrent to her, and she's seldom intimidated or lacking in confidence. Scaring her can be a challenge. In many ways, she's off in her own little world. In Curiosities of Lotus Asia, she's even described as "the girl in red who doesn't listen to a word anyone says." Her thought process is unusual. She has her perceptive moments, but she tends to come to odd conclusions, and surprisingly ditzy things can slip out. ("That cat just turned into a cat!")

This detachment extends to the material world. Reimu has little interest in objects; what she values is different from what most people value. She values a light, beautiful robe, but not a rare series of books from the outside world. She goes through periods where she's desperate for money - partly because it's a representation of her shrine's success, and partly because she knows that other people value it, which means it's necessary for her to live and keep her shrine running. She doesn't value money for its own sake. Given money, it's unlikely that Reimu would want to buy anything in particular beyond necessities. Plus tea. Plus snacks.

Her detachment also shows in how she interacts with people. Friends are barely treated differently than anyone else. Touhou's creator has said that, no matter how many people are around her, Reimu is "alone in her heart," not that this is necessarily a bad thing. She's a curious person, though, and like anybody she gets bored when things are too monotonous. Part of her finds solving problems, playing spell card battles, and running around everywhere to be fun. She isn't so detached that she never finds anything fun or exciting. If she gets restless, she'll look for something to do, even if it might not have interested her otherwise. Reimu still enjoys people's company as well. She particularly enjoys simple pleasures, like wordplay, drinking tea, pretty scenery, making wishes on shooting stars, and poking fun at people. It's not uncommon to see her cheerful and relaxed over next to nothing, but circumstances don't always allow her to be her carefree, easygoing self.

Garret Hawke | Dragon Age 2 [Reserved]

[personal profile] dusty 2012-11-11 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
I know I reserved him as Ethan Hawke but last minute decided to go with the Default name instead. Sorry for any confusion!

Name: Dusty
Contact Info: [plurk.com profile] dustyhalls
Other Characters Played: Claire Redfield
Preferred Apartment: None.

Character Name: Garrett Hawke, Hawke, The Champion of Kirkwall, Champion
Canon: Dragon Age 2
Canon Point: After the final battle. Sided with the Mages.
Background/History: Hawke @ Dragon Age wiki
Previous Game History: None
Personality: There's ten years worth of decisions and friends to help form Garrett's personality. It mostly boils down to him being sarcastic, one to try a humorous response over a serious approach but despite this one thing stays true he is always just. He will always choose the higher ground, no matter what it means for himself. He can be charming in one instance and resolute the next. Sarcastic and understanding. He's the Champion of Kirkwall and that comes with responsibility that weighs heavily on him sometimes.

It's a wonder, though, how he managed to keep that personality.

Honestly, the escape from Ferelden that ended up with the death of his brother Carver, should have tempered the naturally joking tones he used to have when they were growing up. The disdain and sometimes outright distrust he is shown by most of the residents of the Free Marches upon arrival as a refugee from Fereldan, really should have stamped all that light heartedness out but miraculously it doesn't.

Through adversity, strife and tragedy, he manages to keep that spark there.

Garrett forms friendships that start out as mere agreements of help that later become such loyal bonds they are willing to go to war for him, even if it goes against their principles or their ideals, even if it means betraying those they once called trusted. He is able to gain position and power in the city that at first thought of him as nothing more than trash blown in by a foul wind. Through years of digging and prodding he learns the true plight of the people of Kirkwall, especially the mages. Their unjust treatment causes him to side with them, to go against even the Templars to protect them.

Throughout the years he shows considerable strength of character. He loses his mother and brother tragically, he nearly loses his sister and earns her animosity for some time, and yet he still carries on. He finds friends in those most considered unfit and goes to great lengths to help them. Even going so far as to risk it all for one in particular.

Overall, Garret Hawke is the Champion of Kirkwall, and while titles do not necessarily reflect passion or personality in every person, in Hawke it does. He cares for everyone in Kirkwall, and is a champion for their beliefs and lives.

Abilities/Powers:
Class: Rogue

Out of the three classes that a person can be, Hawke chose to be a rogue.

Rogues are a versatile class that can be either ranged, with a bow and arrow, or up close, with dual blades. Their specializations do not change their focus on dexterity and cunning which help their hits to be precise and always deadly.

Hawke is a dual dagger user, focusing on single targets. He teams up with his mage and warrior companions to maximize the amount of damage inflicted with each hit. Because, of his focus on dexterity, this lends to Hawke being very flexible and graceful as he fights, a mix of acrobatics and deadly strikes that are brutal when paired with poisons and a well equipped plan.

Specialization: Assassin

The assassin is focused on large burst damage in a short amount of time, they mark their target, calling out weaknesses to their allies, gain stamina from the kills and attack any weakness with deadly accuracy. They are adept at taking down single enemies effectively, even powerful ones, but are weak against swarms and must work more carefully with allies to survive. They have lower defense because of their high damage output and will have to be backed up should their burst damage fail to kill the enemy in a short amount of time.

A way around this, is that Hawke will call out weaknesses first, allowing his companions the chance to engage the enemy first, then jump in to help give the finishing blow.

In some instances, he can single-handily kill a weaker enemy in one blow, though this is not his usual tactic.

Sample Entry:
[There's clattering and a bit of cursing as fingers not used to such a small device mess with
different settings on accident]

This is more difficult than killing a dragon.

[a sigh is heaved, and suddenly an image appears. Hawke is peering at the phone with a confused look]

Fenris would be calling this magic, I'm sure of it. Even I'm wondering... Oh, what does this button do-

[and the feed cuts off, the voice cutting off just after- looks like a new resident and one who has no idea how to use technology in any form]

Sample Entry Two:

An abandoned city, not the strangest thing he's seen, really he can think of a few right off the bat but still, the architecture here is completely different than anything in Kirkwall or Fereldan. He'd wondered for a moment if he'd been taken by enemies of his companions but the voices he's gotten to come through the strange box in his pouch say differently.

'Welcome to Haven' The sign greets him merrily and with a certain bit of caution, Hawke approaches it from the side, eyes turned upward at the imagery of the man and woman with the strange masks.

And here he was under the impression he was going to be able to retire, in some mountain lodge and live on the stories Varric was spinning of him, mostly fiction but there was enough truth in there to make him smile. Really he didn't kill the Arishok so quickly. In fact he felt more like a mouse running from a rampaging cat at points in that battle.

Much like he feels now, though here the cat is hiding, watching, waiting to strike. "Well a better lay of the land will do everyone a bit of good." He mutters to himself, and starts his way up the pole of the sign. It's a good thing he's nimble or he'd have probably fallen and broken his neck, his hand did slip a few times, maybe his retirement was working against him.

"And what a wonderful view this is." He announces, his voice rather dry. This won't help anyone, really what the hell were they even here for?

Character Name: Charles Fei-Ong
Canon: Blood+
Canon Point: Midway through volume 2, just after the library scene with Riku
Background/History: Here is a link to the wiki, but since it's sparse on manga specific information, here is some more detailed info!

Previous Game History: Being in Mayfield for almost three years has changed Charles, and surprisingly for the better. Though the city itself was a near-constant deluge of physical and mental torment, he was able to create bonds that outclassed most from his world in depth, meaning and healthiness. Through people like Minato, Vietnam, England and the Doctor, he was able to start opening up to others again without fearing rejection. His all-consuming obsession with Diva and Saya mellowed out somewhat after they came and went a few times as well, and at this point, it's a bit of a rarity for him to think about home and the people from it in depth unless he's reminded of it, whereas it was constantly on his mind upon his arrival. After friends from the early days of his stay were droned, he started distancing himself from others again. This also happened to a smaller degree whenever unfortunate circumstances would befall loved ones, such as Vietnam's first droning or Hong Kong's murder. These fluctuations in attachment and emotional stability have always been common for him, but they aren't as violent and stark as they used to be. His tendency to fixate has also lessened, but he can still be a grudge-bearing, vindictive person when provoked, and the provocation doesn't need to be large.

In the later months of his stay, he made new bonds with people which were even healthier than his first ones in that his newer acquaintances (namely Ciel) had little tolerance for tantrums and weren't willing to reward poor behavior. The most poignant example was when the stress of losing loved ones repeatedly made him reach a breaking point, and with a little tough love (read: she beat him to hell and back), she managed to redirect his automatic response to trauma to a degree. This in and of itself is better for the people around him, but on the negative side, it also increased his apathy, which has grown incredibly since he first arrived. However, the people he's surrounded by continued to prove that not all humans (or sort-of humans, like Abel Nightroad and Cain Knightlord) fear him, which softened his less pleasant personality traits and accentuated his positive ones. He now allows his "human" emotions to show more freely and isn't quite as obsessed with being seen as a monstrous powerhouse. He can tolerate spending free time doing mundane things with others much better and is a little more open to the idea of true acceptance, rather than instantly denying it. He even goes so far as to reciprocate friendship through small acts that lack the selfishness he usually operates under, IE going out of his way to get birthday gifts.

On a whole, he's still grumpy, sharp-tongued and quick to take offense. The same subjects and people get on his nerves, the desire for revenge and (self)destructive tendencies have by no means completely left him, and he's always in danger of lapsing into bad habits due to a sustained sensitivity to criticism and a dislike for people who operate under principles he disagrees with. However, the prolonged exposure to what is essentially the healthyish childhood he never had has put him in a better place mentally, equipping him with a marginally better attitude and a wider variety of coping mechanisms.

Charles Fei-Ong | Blood+ | Reserved (2/2)

[personal profile] cthulus 2012-11-12 12:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality: Just one step into the ostentatious main office at Okinawa's military base, and the kind of person it belongs to is obvious. It's in use by a high-ranking commander or an established politician, no doubt; some grand figure of authority with a refined taste to match their reputation. Then the office chair at the center of the room swivels around and... nope. It's just some little kid.

Though jarring, this is the way Charles most enjoys greeting people. With the reputation of a monster and a tendency to come off as an arrogant, entitled aristocrat, his child-like appearance stands in stark contrast against his personality, and he knows it. He's seen bossing the scientist in charge of his care - and pretty much everyone else, no matter their rank or title - around relentlessly and gives off the impression that he thinks everyone should be grateful just to stand in the same room. He brushes people aside easily and mocks the genuine effort of others if it isn't up to his standards, being unimpressed at best and rude at worst. And this is when he's in a good mood.

Not many people are privy to his bad ones, but his first debut against Saya is a good example of it, also revealing an inhuman bloodlust and alarming lack of mental stability in the process. He interrupts her soliloquy during a new rendition of Hamlet and proceeds to brutally maim her while quoting Ophelia's lines from the original play, displaying the changes his general demeanor makes when Saya is involved. While he's quick to use his physical prowess normally (cutting off Solomon's hand, slapping Van when he's angered), he goes almost theatrically overboard if Saya enters the scene. His manner of speech changes as well, maintaining its basic refined elements but becoming sprinkled with a colorful variety of cursing and vulgarity. These are the moments when his worst traits are on display; he definitely puts no effort in pretending he's one of the good guys, too focused on finishing his Vietnam war to care about much else.

Despite the displays of brutality, Charles is still very much a child emotionally speaking. Though he's been around for roughly a century and is intelligent and well-read, he is still a dependent person and socially awkward, especially around others his own age (the most notable example being Riku, the captive he eventually became friends-or-something-like-it with). When in these situations, he's easily flustered or embarrassed, feigning bossiness or finding other ways of asserting his supposed superiority in order to make the situation more familiar and comfortable. It's in these situations that he shows his truest self: a boy with a passion for literature and fine arts, a desire for companionship, and an irrational fear of moths. Uncertain and overcompensating, he deals with foreign things like affection and acceptance in the only way he knows; awkward, indignant denial or mildly offended grumbling. Negatively, these actions could be seen as lighter aspects of a less savory part of Charles' personality.

Though he pretends to be fine on his own and feels awkward when put in situations where he isn't, Charles has a very large dependency complex; most notably in regard to Van Argiano. Again, he tries to maintain a façade of superiority, as he would genuinely like to believe himself in control of as many aspects in his life as possible since they've been stripped from him with increasing regularity. But he can become alarmingly attached to the people who manage to get past this, to the point where it can accurately be described as an obsession. At one point, he becomes so frantic at the prospect of Van betraying him that he rips his own heart out and has an emotional breakdown, only snapping out of it when Van threatens to leave if the behavior continues. The extra intensity of this display might be in part because he can't stand the other chevalier and, despite being accused of longing to become one again, no longer considers himself a true part of the group. Thus, if Van sides with them in one thing, he isn't on Charles' side; it’s a very "you're either with me or against me" sort of mentality. In addition to the emotional dependency, he is also physically dependent on others to some extent because of his missing arm. For one example, he can forehead-flick another chevalier through a brick wall, but can't tie his own ribbons. That isn't to say he can't manage on his own, of course, but he is very quick to call on Van for help with those smaller things, and some larger as well, such as the time his legs were healing and he couldn't walk without more blood.

Beyond the cruel mask and socially awkward behavior, there's a final and extremely well-hidden layer. It's here that one can find the emotions driving him to keep his home filled with blue roses despite claiming he has no ties to his past, and the part of himself that hates his own hopefulness and accepts his fate as a test subject that is neither human nor chevalier. Despite his intense fear of being betrayed by the few people he has left, Charles has already been dealt such a poor hand that he has come to expect it and views betrayal as something that is inevitable and a part of life. The frantic reactions he has in response to the possibility of someone leaving his side is his way of attempting to simply prolong their stay, hopeful in spite of his conscious acknowledgment that everything good ends. This aspect of his personality comes out the strongest towards the very end of his canon appearances when Van shows up with a gun. Though he looks crushed, he only says; 'You always were a perfectionist, weren't you', and makes no move to defend himself. It's this side of him that has already acknowledged death and feels it's time to take his exit, allowing him to accept Saya's poisonous blood with some sense of closure.

Abilities/Powers:
Speed → Chevalier can move faster than the human eye can track, reminiscent of your typical flash-step.
Strength → Many times that of a human. The types of physical tasks chiropterans are capable of include swinging around battleship anchors for sport and flicking people through cement walls.
Regeneration/Healing → Chiropteran regeneration covers almost everything, up to and including removal of vital organs, incendiary explosions, partial and potentially full decapitation and severe limb loss. Small cuts seal over almost instantly, and they're seen as capable of regrowing missing or damaged body parts (eyes, organs, etc). They also possess an immunity to natural and man-made poisons and illnesses.
Shape-Shifting → By ingesting the blood of a human, chevalier are able to replicate the appearance and voice of that person. This doesn't extend to the abilities of said people, but appears to cover memory to some extent.
True Form → Chevalier possess a primal "true form" that resembles the lower level chiropterans, which enables them to be even stronger and faster. They can also shift individual limbs at will into this form without changing their entire body.
Aging → Chiropterans do not age and don't have a known lifespan.
Senses → All five senses are finely-tuned. They can hear well enough to tell one person from another by their heartbeat, smell blood from blocks away, see in the dark, and hear and speak on hypersonic frequencies.
Additionally, unlike the queens of the species, chevalier are unable to sleep.

Weaknesses
› Abilities are dependent on the amount and quality of blood consumed; the more a chevalier drinks, the faster they regenerate and the stronger they are. A starved chiropteran's abilities slow significantly. For example, Saya, who chooses to feed off of her chevalier very infrequently, exhibits much less raw power than Diva, who drinks from humans quite often.
› Saya's blood, which is the one thing guaranteed to kill or inflict permanent damage on a chevalier.

Sample Entry: Previous game entry!
Sample Entry Two: Scavenging. Scavenging. If there's one thing Charles doesn't like (which is already a lie, since there are many, many things that fall into that category), it's dirtying his hands. Whether metaphorical or physical, the act of bending his back for something he believes is beneath him gets under his skin faster than just about everything else. A reminder of subservience, a little note from the universe to put him back in his place; no matter what form it comes in, he despises it equally.

Yet here he is, stooped low in the rubble of a building that might have once been a school. The things he's scrounging up are much more precious to him than any canned spam or flash-fried noodles could be; he's dragging the fingers of his left hand through dirt and bits of plaster and cement in the hopes of finding more grimy ivory piano keys. 'A practice room', he had thought to himself once he stumbled upon the wreckage. And what better place to start than here, a room that looked like a perfect cemetery! He didn't even have to lift a finger for it. The frayed top, broken legs, dented pieces of music stands; it reflected his mood perfectly, and in that perfect reflection, he saw an opportunity.

His right sleeve is tied into a sloppy knot just below the remainder of that arm, and collecting things from a broken mess is difficult with only one, but he persists. He digs and digs until the burlap sack he had wrestled from beneath a broken window pane is heavy with piano keys, and only then does he allow himself to stand again and regain his authority, his look of arrogance. Nose in the air, he casts a last glance at the broken piano and mentally makes a note to return. Once outside, he flags down the nearest person.

"You! You, yes-- a little aid would be appreciated. I've a few more things to pick up before returning to the apartments tonight and it's getting quite late. You wouldn't mind, I'm sure. Come along, then, don't drag your feet."

He's here already after all, and there's no reason to skip out on a little help and a quick snack while he's out.

Tinker Bell | Tinker Bell films | reserved pt. 2

[personal profile] blindfolds 2012-11-12 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality: Like a lot of fairies, Tinker Bell makes no effort to hide her emotions. When she's happy everyone around her knows it, and when she's feeling unhappy or sad it's just as obvious. What all of her friends could tell you, immediately, is that Tinker Bell has a temper. Out of all of her friends, Tink's the most likely to go off on someone as a result of her emotions getting the better of her. In fact, she's the one most likely to even experience this, as most of her other friends are fairly laid back. However, when Tink's mad, her anger is plain on her face. Literally, as her face turns an almost glowing shade of red. It's become something of a thing she's known for, even imitated by her friend Rosetta when talking to another fairy about her.

Tink's bad habits are numerous. To start off, she's bad at lashing out at other people, blaming them for her mistakes. She's made good progress in trying to mature past that, but it doesn't always work, and she's still prone to flying off the handle when wrapped up in a project that requires her attention. Though a born leader and always willing to lend a hand to her friends, Tink's stubborn nature tends to work best alone... at least on the first try. She likes having the opportunity to prove her worth without help from anyone, and to be quite honest she's not very good at accepting when she can't. It's gotten her into trouble more than once, including some dangerous trips where she didn't want to ask for outside help and took charge on her own.

Tink is also not good with authority. While she has immense respect for Queen Clarion and other high-ranking fairies (the Season Ministers, for example, and Lord Milori of the Winter Woods), when told she can't do something that she wants, she tends to go out of her way to directly defy them... usually in secret. After all, if no one gets hurt, what does it matter? This sort of attitude has gotten people hurt, including her friends.

For every bad trait, though, Tinker Bell has a good one to back it up. For one thing, she's a hard worker, willing to push herself above and beyond her own limits to finish any project she takes on. She has strong feelings toward helping people in need. If she can lend a hand she always will, and if she's witness to an injustice she'll be the first to stand up and make her voice heard. When there's a job to be done, whether it's tinkering or solving personal problems, or even just being there, Tink is the most reliable fairy you can find.

She makes friends easily and keeps them, and she's very supportive no matter what, never letting any outside influences come between them. Even when it comes to people she has more a rocky relationship with, like Vidia, those bumps can be put aside in favor of helping her out even when she's deliberately trying to aggravate Tink. ...well, they can be put aside most of the time. When it counts.

One more very important trait Tinker Bell has is her curiosity, and it's one that can be both good and bad. Tink's curious nature has been the driving force for many of her adventures, including her desire to explore the mainland (a place tinker fairies never go), willing to chance putting herself in danger to explore the Winter Woods, and even getting close to humans. Tink's desire to discover new things and learn about them is also seen in how she collects "lost things", human items that are lost and end up washing up on the shores of Neverland. Ranging from broken music boxes, to jewelry, to plain old buttons, Tink loves collecting lost things, and often uses them in her tinkering.

Abilities/Powers: Like all fairies, Tinker Bell can fly when given pixie dust, and there isn't really a limit for how long or far she can fly. She can go higher than the clouds, can turn corners like a pro, and can reach speeds of about twenty miles per hour, depending on how determined she is. With fairy wings comes a bit of vulnerability. They can withstand falling from large heights and the weight of their own bodies, and are both flexible and strong enough to be covered in fairy clothes. However, as a warm fairy, Tinker Bell risks her wings freezing very quickly in cold weather, and if a warm fairy's wings are frozen they can easily break.

Another widespread fairy gift, she can communicate with animals... to a degree. Not in language, but with a natural understanding that humans don't really possess. She's not an animal-talent fairy, and she has plenty of trouble with more ill-tempered creatures (like certain cats and hungry rats), but she gets along very well with insects and has several animal friends. (A mouse named Cheese, for one, and a very helpful firefly named Blaze.)

Now, as a tinker-talent fairy, Tinker Bell's most valuable tools are her hands. She has a natural instinct when it comes to building and fixing things. If you give her something broken and let her sit down to think, she'll fix it so that it's better, faster, and ten times as efficient. She has no problem getting her hands dirty, and has formed several new machines all on her own to help aid the fairies of Pixie Hollow, including useful hand-powered machines, such as things to create paint and paint things in mass quantities instantly. She's also made several full vehicles on her own, including something like a fairy-sized Zeppelin, only powered by large cotton balls sprinkled with pixie dust to help them float. It's important to note that, upon her birth and discovery of her destined talent, fairies present remarked that they had "never seen a talent glow so brightly". Tinker Bell is very good at figuring out not only how to make something, like other tinker fairies, but how to make them function with little outside work. There's trial and error with everything, but for the most part she's pretty on the spot.

Character Name: Ezio Auditore da Fierenze
Canon: Assassin's Creed
Canon Point: Where in the series are you taking them from?
Background/History: There's quite a bit here.
Personality: For most of his life Ezio was at first glance a charmer that blended into social life easily, a man who can talk, seduce, or fake his way in or out of nearly anything. The Renaissance’s version of a playboy; even known among his neighbors (or more specifically the ones with attractive daughters) as a womanizer. He has over abounding confidence that can come off as smugness or even arrogance on the occasion he lets it go unchecked. He is passionate about everything he does and usually doesn't bother to hide what emotion he feels. Ezio is the type of person that even though he goes through seemingly endless tragedy he will still pick himself up and find a reason to soldier on, even laugh again. From the canon point taken he has matured and calmed a great deal, but still retains much of his charm, swagger, passion from his youth. By the time of Brotherhood Ezio is still very much the same though with significant changes. Years of experience as an assassin (mostly working on his own) have granted him more insight, more patience and less of his brashness from his younger days; helped along by the fact that he has become the Mentor of the Assassins. Now being in charge of training and teaching the next generation of the Order has done an excellent job of focusing his priorities.

On deeper inspection Ezio actually has a keen sense of honor, ingrained in him by his upbringing. His father, though never revealing their heritage as Assassins, taught him the principles and ideals of the Order. He has a sense of justice and pride that leads him to live his life in a manner that would bring praise to himself, his family, and the Assassin Order, but despite being raised as a noble he does not hold himself in higher esteem than those of a lesser class. Ezio would rather fight for or alongside the little guy, not put him down. He is loyal to his family and friends to a fault, it could perhaps be considered a weakness. One of his biggest fears is that he will fail to protect those he cares for, like he failed to protect his father and brothers from being murdered. This gives him cause to want to rush to the aide of anyone in need, but with so many wolves in sheep's clothing out there he is still slow to trust.

Ezio is driven by his desire to see the once strong and variable Assassin Brotherhood brought back it's former glory in the city of Rome. Though this goal is partially motivated by revenge for the murder of his uncle and the destruction of his home, his arrival in Rome and witness of the state of the common people, along with the Assassin Order there gives him reason to find a better resolve. Ezio now sees the bigger picture behind the battle between the Assassin and the Templar. Though vengeance is still a driving force for him he now considers the ideals and goals of the Brotherhood to be just as, if not more, important than his own personal vendetta. His focus has shifted from his own concerns to lean more to those of the people who depend on him. He now prefers to try and take charge and to lead as opposed to taking orders (which he was never all that good at taking anyway).

Abilities/Powers:Very agile, flexible and light on his feet. He is proficient in free running/parkour, an expert in hand to hand combat and with most bladed weapons but specifically swords, daggers and the hidden blade (more examples in video form). He's a master of stealth and related skills such as pickpocketing without detection and blending into crowds.

He also posses an ability called Eagle Vision that allows him to determine friend from foe and everything in between. It can also give him the ability to view hidden messages such as things written in invisible ink, or even in blood.
Sample Entry: ((This is a post copy and pasted directly from a journal entry from when he was in a previous game, if that's allowed? If the mods would prefer I can write something completely new.))

[The post is in no way accidental so the view is from a well propped up camera facing Ezio. For once he appears to be indoors, one of the apartments most likely. He has his hood thrown back so his face can be clearly seen.]

I need to speak to one of the dottore willing to do a chip removal. I'd like mine out, sooner rather than later. I think I've been here long enough to warrant this request.

[With that bit of serious business out of the way he pauses then shifts slightly to rummage around for something out of view. When he sits back in his original position he now wears a lazy, confident smirk on his face.]

Desmond. I believe I have something of yours, something quite lovely and unique indeed.

[Here he pauses to hold up a photo of one Lucy Stillman. He lets the view linger on the photograph before pulling it away so he can look at it.]

She's really quite lovely. Such intense eyes. You should not have let her wander into the hands of another man! If you wish for her safe return, you'll agree to my demands.

[And with one last shot of poor, helpless Lucy he shuts the comm off, but not before a mischievous chuckle can be heard.]
Sample Entry Two: Ezio had been waiting on the same bench for what seemed like hours for the sun to finally start sinking behind the horizon. This meant the guards would be changing their posts soon and it was in this snippet of time that he knew he had to make his move, and quickly. He rose from his seat and moved into the crowd, bowing his head slightly and falling into step with them. He was less concerned about being seen on his way to the Doge’s palace and more with being focused on the task at hand. He ran through the rough plan he had thrown together in his head again and again.

The palace walls were high and thick but posed little trouble for him as he climbed smoothly upward pausing as he reached the top. After checking for any straggling guards he pulled himself up onto the top of the wall then peered downward into the courtyard. His target was below speaking with an associate and from his vantage point Ezio could only count three guards still on duty. The assassin’s heart began to race. Anger that had been nothing more than a dull ache in his stomach now burned in his chest. The original plan to stay in the shadows was nearly thrown out the window. Let all those here see, let them know that the Auditore were not gone, let them feel the pain he felt every day, let them witness that if those who dare harm any who were precious to Ezio Auditore da Firenze would met a bloody end.

To use this rage and focus it towards the assassination was key and he rather prided himself on his ability to do it. He smirked mirthlessly as he made his way down to a balcony in two cat-like leaps, sliding down a well placed column until he was on the courtyard floor. He stayed in the shadows behind the column unseen and waited for the Doge to turn towards the doorway not far behind where Ezio now stood. The man turned and Ezio wasted no time in sprinting towards his target, all need in stealth gone now that he was so close to getting his man. A voice cried out: Cessare! Assassino! At the outcry his target turned to look for his assailant but it was too late. Ezio had already reached him snapping the hidden blade into place and slamming it hard into the man’s neck with a soft metallic sound and the muffled crack of broken bone.

Everything he had was poured into this one fluid motion. When the blade stabs through his target's flesh Ezio can feel something deep and pent up flow out of him, just for a moment. For that brief time all is right with the world. But all too soon it’s over and the dull ache of loss is back in his stomach.

He laid the now dead man down gently, as if placing a child down for a nap. He only had a moment to do so before the guards were on him, but this last thing he needs to do is most important. His uncle had told him to let his rage rule each kill would only turn him into one like his enemies and so he forced himself back into a steady calm before speaking quietly to the corpse.

“May death bring you peace where life could not. Requiescat in Pace.”

The job now done, the assassin rose too his feet and made a hasty retreat.

Character Name: Takeshi Yamamoto (he usually goes by Yamamoto)
Canon: Katekyo Hitman Reborn

Background/History: Link because I don't think you would appreciate me being a wise-ass about 350 or so chapters of this spectacular series.

All so don't look too close at the personality section in the wiki because it was made by 14 year olds with little-to-no character insight and I can pinpoint pages on the places I differ from the wiki knowledge. In short I'm a bigger nerd than them with a little background in psychology.

**A bit of a note, because I don't want to have to inflict super-powered world-saving teenage boy upon everyone right off. I'll be taking him just after he's been healed by Byakuran, which means that the key to his fancy shounen laser thing is currently a pretty blue rock. He can unlock it when he needs to, but first he'll probably just react to his surroundings. I love this series for all of it's craziness and flaws, but I am well aware how obnoxious super-powered teenagers can be.

Previous Game History: N/A
Personality: For the most part, Yamamoto seems like a friendly, easy going, laid back sorta guy. If he were a meme he'd be 'good guy Greg'. He's almost always got a smile on his face and you would have better luck convincing Wikipedia to unban Stephen Colbert than you would offending Yamamoto. He's got the patience of a saint and is very hard to anger. However, Yamamoto is much more complicated than he appears. In the beginning of the series, while people were fond and chummy with Yamamoto, girls formed possessive fanclubs about him, he didn't particularly have any close friends. He appeared to be the untouchable good-guy jock. He also attempted suicide at one point, so it's safe to assume while he is generally easy-going and good natured, he's prone to bottling things up. A recurring theme with Yamamoto is that there is always more going on than there appears.

Running with this theme, Yamamoto can come off as kind of a dufus, His grades aren't stellar, and he often blatantly ignores the obvious to the point where one could argue some sort of comprehension deficiency. However, he's good enough at acting that he actually makes people believe he's that spectacularly dense. In truth, he's one of the sharpest members of the Vongola, as Reborn (mentor of the group) has stated. Yamamoto's grades are low simply because he's too preoccupied with baseball and lets his grades slip. When he puts forth the effort he's very quick at picking up on things on his own. The biggest facade he has is his involvement with the Vongola. He always brushes it off saying it's a 'fun role playing game', despite nearly getting eaten by sharks, getting pulled into the future, as well as a number of other dangerous and occasionally ridiculous events. However, it's not a perfect facade. He breaks it on a few occasions, one being to give his friend a good punch in the face (because this is how you fix people's problems in Shounen) and verbally lecture him on what good he's doing for the family with his attitude. The facade seems to be more of a safeguard than anything, so that he can fall back into his favorite hobby whenever he wants and not feel pressured by the Vongola.

For a good while, Yamamoto struggled weighing the importance of his favorite sport, baseball, and his friends and the Vongola. He would worry about getting hurt severe enough to prevent him from playing, and would hold back when it came to fighting. His suicide attempt was in part because he had gotten injured and might have to sit out the season (it can be speculated that there was more than that going on, but it's not elaborated, for headcanon reasons I am going to claim that the 'untouchable good-guy jock' act was weighing on him a bit too much). Over time the Vongola won out, but it doesn't mean he's any less enthusiastic about his sport. He's got a competitive spirit, and despite having baseball on the brain, it shows in more than just his chosen sport. While at first he refused his father's teachings on the family sword style, he picked it up for the sake of his friends, and whenever he finds a good opponent he gets a charge in fighting them. His fights are always good natured though, he doesn't aim to kill and if his opponent perishes for one reason or another (an outside source, sharks, ect.) he gets visibly upset, which for him is saying something. It's also rare for him to fight out of anger, as one of his greatest strengths is his ability to keep a cool head in heated moments Most of the time anyway, the previously mentioned face-punching and lecturing while necessary could have been done at a better time when someone wasn't trying to kill him (Luckily their attacker found their teenage hissy-fits amusing and let them be while he sat back and popcorn.gifed). There are a few moments when he becomes irritated, but in the entirety of almost 400 chapters, Yamamoto is only seen getting table-flipping angry once. And that one time he was fighting a century-old illusionist (the big bad boss of the arc), and by employing tactics and strategies in a cool-headed manner, Yamamoto sent him crawling away with his tail between his legs to regroup. This was just after Yamamoto had been healed from aforementioned shish-kabobbing.

Despite his perception on situations, his ability to play up a facade, Yamamoto does still have his derpy teenage boy moments when he's let his guard down. When the world's most obnoxious small child one of his younger friends, Lambo, enters a room after a bath informing those in the dining area that "in the bath... THERE'S A BUNCH OF BOOBIES!" Yamamoto drops his drink and starts having an awkward flailing and choking moment with his friend Tsuna. And over the course of the series, Yamamoto lets his guard down more and more, using the facade less. It's still there, just simply added on as a kind of afterthought, at least with his friends in the Vongola. To strangers, while he's faster to open up than before, there's still an initial time when he slips back into it for comforts sake.

Overall, Yamamoto is a good kid who pretends to be normal, but has some unique quirks to him and a bucket of issues under the surface. He's a patient, laid back, calm, and good-natured baseball nerd, who will drop his bat and take up a sword for the sake of his friends.

Abilities/Powers: Leaving links to the wikis for any clarifications... as well as to prevent this section from ending up longer than the personality section it's happened to me before, sadly.

Shigure Soen Ryu : A sword style he inherited from his father, said to be the 'prefect technique'.

Rain Flame: Like most video games and a good deal of Shounen series, 'Dying Will Flames' are Katekyo Hitman Reborn's Shounen-laser of choice. There are several elements to them, each with different properties. Yamamoto's dying will flames takes form in a blue liquid-like flame called the rain flame. The property of these flames is 'tranquility', in term of application this means that it primarily works in weakening. When used against other attacks it slows them and weakens their power, it can also be applied to illusions- weakening them enough to break them/see through them. When applied to people it can slow them or stop them completely.

To put this in terms of an RPG, with along with his use of weapons and physical strength, Yamamoto is a debuff tank.

Vongola Ring/Vonolga Gear: The Vongola ring was a ring that helps the user channel their flames. The Vongola rings were a high level ring that could take a very high flame output. Within the ring is also the 'will' (fancy canon term for ghost aparently) of the first Vongola guardian of that ring. For Yamamoto the will inside is Ugetsu Asari. It doesn't particularly come into effect, there was only one instance where the wills could make themselves known, and it is not likely to happen again.
Also, when alit the ring can be inserted into a special box and unlock weapons for that flame element. The weapons can rage from actual weapons (swords and such) or fancy weaponized animals. Depending on the box the animal can attack or in some cases can even fuse to certain weapons to upgrade it. Also, the more animalistic box weapons have some sort of mental bond with their owner. They often share moods, or the animal will act more freely on the owner's inert desires I.E. Owner is engaged in a conversation they don't want to be in, the animal will outright turn-tail and run.

But you see. Something funny happened. The rings broke. So the Vongola rings were combined with the box weapons and got fixed with a handy dandy power upgrade. They became 'Vongola Ore' which, when input with a whooole bunch of dying will flames in a really dramatic fashion they became the 'Vongola gear'. Yamamoto's will take the form of a necklace. The necklace basically has the same function as the ring, only now provides a Sailor Moon-esque transformation sequence different weapons. Will be elaborated on later.

Vongola "Box" Weapons: Box weapons come in small boxes that could fit into the palm of one's hand, however because of some 'wibbly wobbly timey-wimey' things, Yamamoto's box weapons now come fused with his Vongola Gear Necklace thingy... yet are still called box weapons. We don't ask questions in Shounen series anymore.

Jirou: Jirou takes the form of an Akita, a classic Japanese guard dog. It's got teeth, claws, it's pretty big, and he helps Yamamoto hold swords. After his recent power-upgrade, Jirou can also cambio-forma with one of Yamamoto's swords... and makes the sword capable of smelling which is handy when you have sneaky hiding opponeents. And that's about it. For all intensive purposes, Jirou is a big cute fluffy dog.

Kojirou: Kojirou takes the form of a small swallow, and like most things with Yamamoto what you see is not exactly what you get. While the large weaponized guard dog is essentially a dog, the little tiny bird is, in fact, what is going the screw you over. When it flies and flits about it can dowse foes from overhead with rain flames, or it can fly around them for a more concentrated attack. It can also fuse with Yamamoto's sword to upgrade enough to channel rain flames more efficiently.

Ugetsu's four irregular swords: These four sword come out with Jirou, and they consist of one long sword and three short swords. To most this would be an unwieldy and clumsy sword combination, however, Yamamoto's height and build allow him to do so more efficiently. And I know this because I read junk of samurai as one of my many nerdly hobbies

Cambio Forma Version Vongola Gear: While Yamamoto still has access to his other cambio forma and weapons, with the Vongola gear, the weapons he summons forth are more personalized for him and not simply a predecessors hand-me-downs. Jirou and Kojirou fuse with his two swords and he can utilize them for a number of combination techniques.

Oops I just accidentally a hole in your wall: Aside from all the amazing shiny shounen lasers, Yamamoto is tremendously strong, and occasionally has issues holding back, especially when it comes to anything baseball related. For example, when someone asks him to 'toss then something' he will pitch it at them full throttle like it were a baseball. He has imbedded a ball into a concrete wall by accident like this.

Sample Entry: Because every game with a Yamamoto is destined for one of these posts sooner or later

Sample Entry Two:
Yamamoto looked out the window over the surrounding town below. He could hear the people in the room talking, some arguing, other's panicking, but he just remained calm and placid on the outside. He was only in the bloody hospital scrubs and his jacket, he had been just about to run for his clothes when... well, he passed out and ended up here he guessed. Part of him wondered if it was his fault for pushing himself so hard, if he hadn't passed out then he wouldn't have ended up here right? But this could have also been something Byakuran did, maybe that was why he had passed out? But then why did he give him the Vongola ore?

The teen stifled a sigh, he didn't want to bring any attention to himself to the others in the room. He still needed to get his thoughts together. Everything happened so fast, being attacked in the changing room, the surgery, the sudden healing, and he was up and on his way to try and help deal with the crisis with the Simon Family... and now he wasn't. Not too hard when he thought about it simply like that, it was just a very abrupt change. He could manage, he was sure, he just need a moment to think. He was scared, but otherwise okay. Still a bit whoozy maybe, not sure the healing did much to get rid of the fog from the pain killers. But he could walk. He could feel his legs again and everything. He would be okay. He wasn't sure he was only surrounded by strangers here either. There were probably more people in other rooms. Maybe his friends were here too, and where would they be if he was just moping like this? They were probably scared too.

Finally he stepped back and turned to face the people in the room with him. He could face them now, talk to them, things couldn't be as bad as they seemed.

Character Name: James Sunderland
Canon: Silent Hill 2
Canon Point: End of the game, In Water ending.
Background/History:
James @ Silent Hill wikia

James Sunderland worked as a clerk, married to his wife Mary. At some point Mary contracted a deadly disease, one which would ultimately kill her and shatter James’ world forever. Before her death, while she was ill but still not bad enough to require hospitalization, they visited the scenic resort town of Silent Hill. It was there they both found peace, calling the local lake-side hotel their ‘special place.’

As Mary’s illness progressed and she was forced into the hospital, their relationship underwent a tremendous amount of strain. Mary, frustrated and depressed, frequently lashed out at James. James, for his part, was deeply upset by Mary’s condition. Visiting her upset him tremendously, to the point where his visits became more and more sporadic. They couldn’t go on like that forever. Eventually, spurned on by Mary’s exclamation that she wanted to die and his own selfish need to be free of her, James smothered Mary with a pillow.

'Three years later,' James received a letter from Mary, asking him to return to find her at their special place. It's here the game begins.
foglost: (Default)

[personal profile] foglost 2012-11-13 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality:
James is a man constantly walking a thin line between hope and despair, reality and deception. This balancing act first appeared in his life when his wife Mary took ill. As her condition grew worse, James found himself caught up between hoping for her recovery, and the sense of dread accompanying Mary’s grim prognosis. Eventually, this constant emotional strain pushed them both to the breaking point. Mary, in her own state of despair, told James she wanted to die. Though she later recanted, James, in his fragile state, took her words to heart when his desperation to be free of her grew too intense. When he smothered his wife with a pillow, James effectively killed himself as well as her.

James is a quiet, withdrawn, and ultimately detached individual. Drawn into a world spun by his own subconscious, he is quite literally living in his worst nightmare. In the world of Silent Hill he is being punished for deeds his conscious mind no longer remembers; James has suppressed the memory of killing Mary, although some doubts about her death exist in his mind. He receives a letter from her three years after she died, but he still goes looking for her, expressing his faint hope that he might be reunited with his wife. What sane person would go looking for a dead woman?

He handles the monstrous and bizarre aspects of Silent Hill surprisingly calmly, killing monsters and searching maimed corpses with little expression of horror or disgust. The only time he shows emotion is when he realizes he has killed another human being, such as is the case with Eddie. Given this deep horror toward murdering another person, it is no surprise that James had to suppress his memories of killing his wife in order to keep his sanity. While others may have turned and fled when faced with the nightmare of the town, James presses on; all that matters to him is finding Mary. The town has not made his quest easy, however. Throughout his search he is constantly tormented by his own subconscious urges. The many puzzles he solves during the course of the game fulfill two roles; they are a manifestation of his need to solve the problem at hand (find the truth), as well as his subconscious reluctance to confront the truth, the puzzles effectively blocking his way to the grand solution (Mary). Two particular figures also feature prominently on his journey through the town, expressing two of the most powerful forces in James’ world; life and death.

Maria is an attractive young woman who greatly resembles Mary. She is the personification of James’ ‘ideal,’ a sultry, flirtatious young woman who begs James never to leave her. She represents his desire to find a new happiness, a new life. Pyramid Head, on the other hand, is all of James’ subconscious masochistic urges to be punished for what he has done, and his persistent thoughts of taking his own life.

After Mary died, James had nothing. Mentally and emotionally exhausted, life no longer held meaning for him. Mary’s letter gave him hope that kept him going, bringing him to the town, but we can see through Pyramid Heads actions that James cannot fully accept the notion of Mary being alive. He can’t accept a new happiness. He himself repeatedly speaks of her death (“she died of that damn disease”) as if he requires the reminders. Pyramid Head actively pursues his hopes for happiness (ie: Maria), going so far as to kill her right before James. Killing his new life. This is what James, deep down, wants. He doesn't want to start over, to have something new and good. He doesn't deserve it. He's a murderer and a coward.

James is a deeply disturbed man, living a lie while searching for a truth he cannot handle. His mental state is a constant mess of confusion, denial, guilt, self-delusion, and suppressed hate (for himself, as well as Mary), all held together by one last string of faint hope. As of the end of the game, specifically in the 'In Water' ending James is from, James has admitted to himself, to 'Mary,' what he did, and come to terms with his own guilt and shame. He doesn't see any point to life with Mary gone, all of his hope and light gone, and he commits suicide by drowning himself in the lake to be with her.

Abilities/Powers:
James is pretty average, although good with making due with makeshift weapons such as planks and pipes. He knows how to use a firearm, although his aim is less than stellar. James does, however, show remarkable creativity at using simple found items to solve a larger problem.

ninde -- shade's children -- not reserved

[personal profile] denko 2012-11-14 09:56 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:
Ninde is a girl with her mind stuck in a past that she's never experienced- it's her only way of coping with the harsh reality of her world. Presented as a spunky, mouthy, attitude-filled teenager, she seems out of place with the rest of Shade's Children, especially when contrasted with her teammates, who are focused on nothing but resistance and survival. Although she lives in a post-apocalyptic world where children are snatched up the day they turn fourteen and delivered to the Meat Factory to be dissected and reassembled into hideous war creatures, none of this is apparent in Ninde's surface personality.

She is flighty and haughty, often whiny and petulant; it's a mystery to others how she managed to survive for so long and escape. Preferring to stay inside Shade's submarine and lose herself in a world of pre-Change movies, dreaming of being a doctor in a future nobody really believes in, Ninde is almost frustratingly idealistic, as though she doesn't recognize the awful reality around her, despite knowing nothing else her whole life.

However, this isn't because Ninde is stupid, ignorant, or naive. She is fully aware of her situation and surroundings- it's just that she wishes she wasn't, and so she loses herself in a world of fantasy, treating everything lightly. Even out on dangerous missions, she is known for letting her teammates handle any violence, using her telepathy as a crutch in order to avoid it. She constantly complains and skips Shade's lessons; she often mouths off to her team leader, Ella, and never seems to learn her lesson. This stubbornness and determination to pretend the world isn't as awful as it is both impresses and infuriates Ella. Little seems to change Ninde's attitude, no matter what she goes through.

Ninde actually cares deeply for her friends, and she is far more sensitive than she lets on. She sobs the first time she realizes she's had to kill something, and she seems to dearly want the approval and gratitude of her friends. She is also able to buckle down and become serious when the time calls for it; her Change Talent makes her an asset to her team. She is also highly resourceful- using her Change Talent has allowed her to gather intel that would be impossible to grasp otherwise. She is a skilled thief, despite being a hasty decision-maker.

Ninde is one of the only individuals in her world who still retains some hope for a reverse of the Change, and a brighter future. Unlike her teammates, she is motivated by her dreams, not by day-to-day survival. And while that can be a dangerous attitude to have in her world, it hasn't yet failed her.

Abilities/Powers:
The Change radiation in Ninde's world has effected and altered certain children in different ways. Known as a Change Talent, some of these talents are highly visible and physical, while others are mental and easily hidden. Some of the changes are so subtle the child with the Change Talent may never fully understand or discover it, while others are powerful and useful in the right hands.

Ninde's Change Talent manifests as telepathy. She is able to read the thoughts of sentient things. For her, this is largely limited to the monstrous creatures of her world, as her ability is dependent on the level of mental complexity and intelligence of the subject. The creatures are single-minded beings with singular thoughts, and so she is able to read them easily. Humans, however, present significant discomfort for her; the human mind is so complex and confusing that Ninde cannot get a clear read on it. Beings with further mental resistance, like Overlords, are so difficult for her to access that attempting to read one has resulted in vomiting and unconsciousness for her.

Despite the fact that she cannot read humans or Overlords, her Change Talent remains useful in her world, where she is often able to use her ability to successfully evade attack. Ninde has said to have become dependent on her Change Talent to do most of the work for her; she is unaccustomed to fighting, and takes her telepathy for granted as a warning beacon. To use her telepathy, Ninde needs to gnaw on her knuckles to concentrate.

Because Ninde's telepathy, like other Change Talents, is directly linked to and powered by the Change radiation, it may not work in Haven. Additionally, the presence of large bodies of water (like rivers, lakes, or the ocean) weakens her ability.

Sample Entry:
[ Having finally gotten the small phone-like object to work, and having failed to contact anyone she knows in her post-capture panic, Ninde has calmed down enough to cautiously probe for some information.

The view of the girl's face is skewed, at a strange angle, as though she has no idea how to hold the camera. ]

There are no more havens. Puh-lease, give me a break.

[ The phone is set down on a bed with a thunk; the feed fills with darkness, and her voice comes in muffled. ] Anyway, there's no way this is one of Shade's devices, so this is some kind of Overlord thing, I guess? So where are you?

Maybe it's not my turn for interrogation yet. Maybe you're just listening in, if you can even understand me. You can, right? I heard you before. You can definitely understand me.

[ There is an edge of fear to her voice, past the confusion. Something just doesn't seem quite right about this place... Like the unlocked window. And the room. And the view outside. ]

Is anyone listening?

Sample Entry Two:
Ninde could not remember a time when she couldn't hear the distant screech of creatures outside, or a time when the weather wasn't changing arbitrarily, fog rolling in one minute and sunshine the next, sunshine so bright it seemed there shouldn't be a worry in the world. She couldn't remember a time when it was safe to take a few simple steps outside without inciting the wrath of some lurking Ferret or Tracker. And she certainly couldn't remember anything like this town, this... Haven.

It certainly seemed like it would fit in with the streets and junctions she knew. This ruined city had no sights or names that were familiar to her, but she knew the feel of it. It was in the desolation of the place, the way the buildings seemed to fall right in on themselves, the rarity of electricity, the dust that permeated everything in sight. Mostly it was how empty it all was, with no human life occupying its streets and buildings. That much was familiar to her.

But then, there were no creatures. There were no Overlords. And there was no Shade, which meant none of his Children, except for her. She was positive that if Drum or Ella weren't dead, she would have found them by now. But she hadn't, so she had concluded that they probably were, and because Gold-Eye hadn't shown up, he probably was, too.

Haven's unfamiliar streets would yield no answers for her. Ninde began to wonder if perhaps she'd gotten another strong dose of Change radiation.

Previous Game History: N/A

Personality: Much of the beauty of Shadow of the Colossus comes from telling an epic tale with very little dialogue and backstory, while still creating a very deep narrative. We aren’t told everything about the backstory of the characters, we aren’t really even told the main character’s name! But he’s been officially dubbed Wander, short for the Wanderer and the title fits since a majority of the game you spend your time exploring the vast landscape of the Forbidden Land which is beautiful and fascinating as it is desolate and isolating.

Wander is a young man driven by a singular purpose which is to revive a woman called Mono who was killed, sacrificed. The details between the two are not revealed, we do not know if they were lovers, siblings, friends or anything else. All we know is that Wander deeply believes that Mono did not deserve to die and he has dedicated his life now to this attempt to save her. He left his village, stole the Sword of Light and followed a legend to the Forbidden Land in this desperate hope. When Dormin, the being that resides in the Forbidden Land and holds the power to bring back the souls of the dead, warns Wander about the fact the price he will pay “may be heavy indeed.” Wander replies simply and without hesitation:

“It doesn’t matter.”

And before that, while Dormin teased out why this young man was here, Wander presses the entity with insistence. “What do I have to do?” He asks. “Then what am I to do?” He’s not there to bargain or mince about the details. If there’s a series of takes that are supposed to be accomplished, he’s ready to get to them immediately. Perhaps, he’s a bit reckless in this and certainly it shows that he’s not concerned about self-preservation past completing this task. This is going to be hard and dangerous, he knows and he barrels towards it without flinching away.

It’s quite the task. Spread throughout the Forbidden Land are 16 Colossi, grand stone creatures which each hold a sliver of power that keeps Dormin broken and bound. All of them are bigger than Wander, some of them hundreds of times so and to defeat them he has to first use the Sword of Light to find where they are, travel there (often by riding the bulk of distance on his horse then swimming, climbing and otherwise exploring to find the Colossus) and fight the thing. Fighting the Colossi typically entails climbing up on them while they do their best to shake him off or otherwise stop his efforts, sometimes he has to utilize the environment that they are in to expose their weaknesses which are marked by using the Sword of Light once again. The Colossi are living puzzles themselves and Wander works towards solving them and taking them down with a single-mindedness that could be easily interpreted as fearlessness. He is definitely not fearless though: he staggers, he gasps, and sometimes he stops once he catches sight of these towering creatures which could kill him with a single step.

However, he never lets fear deter him.

This journey is a lonely one and it sits heavily on Wander. He does not speak outside of a few cutscenes in the game or when calling his horse, Agro- who is also his only companion through it all. Agro and Wander have a very deep bond. He trusts this horse with his life, using Agro as transportation and assistance in fighting a number of the Colossi. Without Agro a number of the fights would be impossible to complete. They move as one and are so in tuned that he can let go of the reins and completely turn around to fire an arrow without Agro losing course or striking out on his own. Agro in turn is completely devoted to Wander, going into these battles with the same unwavering courage. A lot of horses would spook and run away when faced with a stone giant stomping around, not Agro. Together, they’re an undefeatable team and Agro always returns to the Shrine of Worship where Wander is transported after he beats a Colossus. It can be seen that Wander takes comfort with his companion; he pats Agro and strokes his mane making encouraging sounds that shows his fondness for him under the players command and in a cutscene. He shows obvious distress when Agro throws him off to save him while a bridge collapses under them as they head to the last Colossus, screaming down into the river. That loss gives him pause, he grieves but he does not stop. Stopping is not a luxury he allows himself to have. And while it goes past the canon point I take it from, I think the loss of Agro affects him deeply in the last battle. He has given so much, fought so hard with this noble creature by his side and now he’s gone. Wander is much, much slower to pick himself up when he’s struck while fighting the final Colossus and we finally get to see the toll that this effort has really taken on him.

The sun is always present ; there is no night in the Forbidden Land. It’s impossible to tell how long it truly takes for him to slay all 16 Colossi, how long he goes without human contact, living off the meager things he can find from the land like lizards, birds and the occasional fruit harvested from a tree. Things like these would wear down a normal person, but not Wander. He doesn’t talk outside of a few instances in which he’s addressing Dormin, or calling Agro, not even to himself to provide some illusion of human interaction. He doesn’t stop to rest of reflect on the challenges of his mission. Once he kills a Colossus, he takes their essence into him (…though some manner of black Wander seeking tentacles…), wakes up in the temple and starts the whole cycle over again. There’s only a few instances he takes a second to check in on Mono before heading out once more.

Wander’s story is one of duty, the burden of guilt, of drive, of struggle and the solitary nature that comes with doing setting off to do something only you believe in. it’s a very human story because these aspects are all what make up Wander, a man who stripped off his life and dedicated himself to a cause.

Abilities/Powers: While he has a magical sword in the game, Wander himself possesses no magical talents. He has skills in other areas though:

Horseback riding: Wander shows that he’s extremely talented in this area, able to work with Agro effortlessly and keep his seat in the most challenging of situations. He’s even able to stand up while Agro is cantering and still shoot an arrow.

Archery: Aside from his sword, the only other weapon Wander uses in the game is a bow and arrow which he appears to be extremely good with. He can pick birds out of the sky and strike lizards from some distance. I believe it’s also safe to assume he knows how to fashion his own arrows, considering he was in the Forbidden Land for a long time and wouldn’t have infinite arrows on him.

Endurance/Stamina/Climbing: Considering that a large bulk of the game’s action centers around Wander climbing to and on Colossi and holding on while they thrash, it’s pretty safe to assume Wander’s got one hell of a grip on him and some serious upper body strength. Some of the Colossi are stories tall and Wander has no trouble climbing to the top of them.

…and while he has a sword, it can’t really be said he’s very proficient with it. The wild way he swings and stabs indicates someone unfamiliar and not highly trained in sword fighting.

Sample Entry:
[When the phone turns on the video it takes is at an awkward angle, pointed towards the wall but tilted up to show just the edge of the ceiling. The view changes quickly, jostling with streaking blurs as the phone is turned. There’s a flash of red, dark copper hair and the pale face of a young man with his brows knitted in obvious frustration, some confusion.

Wander knows not what this device is. Not a clue.

He turns it over a few more times, even raises it above his head and peers up for the curious view. It’s obvious he doesn’t realize it’s being recorded either. With a grunt though, he decided to give up on the confusing box.

It’s tossed down; forlornly filming the wreckage of the apartment Wander woke up in. It catches him passing by dressed in worn linen clothing of passing, most notably a tabard painted with a large intricate white design over the browns.

A moment later the sound of the window being open is heard, soon followed by a piercing whistle.]

Agro!

Sample Entry Two:

Softness.

He did not, could not, remember the last time he’d felt anything so soft. That the fabric against his cheek was scratchy and smelled foreign- old musk with an unusual sharpness underlining it that did not remind him of earth and homespun- he did not care. It was soft, softer than packed earth or stone floors and for a moment alarm at the change which could not be explained was not immediate in his mind. He breathed out and sank into the softness, resting like he had never reached that land or its never-ending day. A moment. Just one moment in which he relaxed with limbs easing, lungs sighing, the pressure and the weight of his purpose lifted. His thoughts drifted back to the light, to the distance of her voice he dreamed about every time.

Then the moment passed.

Everything drew in and Wander pushed himself up from…a bed? Pale eyes widened. He pushed to his knees and then sat back; taking in the enclosed space he’d woken up within with quick glances. There were other beds, chests next to them and a window. His hand automatically strayed to his waist, only to find nothing there-

The sword-!

A slight noise left his throat, strangled, aghast. He searched along his belt with frantic pats before leaping up and checking the whole of his person only to come up short. Then he dived, seeking to see if the blade was somewhere there. It was not. A tight fist of panic coiled around his heart as he looked, pushing the soft mattress he had enjoyed for one short moment off the frame. Where was he? Where had the sword been taken? Every single bed and inch of the series of rooms he discovered attached to the first were searched. One of the doors led into another hallway with more foreign stone and other doors. He backed away, closing it to proceed through another round of seeking.

This wasn’t the time. Not now when he was so close…

Dormin had been eager, urging him that he needed to act quickly. He knew it was because those that wanted the sword returned and his mission stopped had to be close. Had they found him…? Was this their doing? His bows and the handful of arrows he still had were missing as well. Gone.

And it was certain that his possessions were not here.

Without looking back Wander abandoned the room. He paused at the stairs at the end of the hallway with its strange, flickering lights then decided on taking them up for vantage, to see. At the top of the stairs there was another door, which was also pushed through sending the warrior stumbling into hazy daylight not as bright as the constant press of the sun in the Land. He caught his steps and looked out only to stop again as a grand sign captured his attention. The only thing he understood were the words, the faces and the grotesque black things that covered them he could not reason out. But the words-

”In Haven, We Are All Safe…Together.”

SPOILER ALERT

[personal profile] incantantes 2012-11-15 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: Desmond is a natural people person. That's probably why he chose to be a bartender. He's friendly and sociable to anyone regardless of they are. One of the main reasons why he enjoys talking to people is probably because he lived in isolation for so long. He's not a type that bodes well with silence. This probably explains why he always struck up conversations with Vidic (a Templar). He even pesters his teammates (Shaun Hastings, Rebecca Crane, and Lucy Stillman) for conversation when he's allowed to get up and walk after every Animus session. Talking with others and knowing what they're up to is a nice distraction and it kind of keeps him grounded to reality. His mind isn't allowed to wander off to his ancestors when he's talking to others.

He isn't really the type to deal with his problems head on... he kind of runs away from them. In fact he tries to avoid them for as long as humanly possible until he's forced to confront them. A good example of this would be him not accepting the fact that he's an assassin. Like most assassins, Desmond was born into the brotherhood. As a child Desmond wanted to do normal things with his life. He wanted to have fun playing around with kids that were his own age instead of having to endure the brutal training he went through daily. He didn't want to have to kill people for political reasons that he didn't really understand either. He was constantly being pushed to his limits. Life at the tiny compound he lived in was hard and unrelenting. He just wanted his freedom. He just wanted a normal life.

In fact he never really cared about the waging wars between the Templars (an organization of people who seek to create a perfect world through force, control, and the destruction of free will) and the Assassins to begin with. To him, it all seemed like it was some bogus story his parents created because they were too paranoid. He even went as far as calling his parents conspiracy freaks who were too busy chasing after shadows. Being trapped, coupled with the brutal training and ridiculous lectures about an organization that seemed even more ridiculous than anything else-- It was only a matter of time until he left, really. He ran away on his sixteenth birthday without any regrets and never looked back.

Speaking of parents, he was never really on good terms with his father. His father, William, was always on his case and constantly told him that he could do better if he just focused. He was constantly pushed to his limit when he was younger, and it felt like his father treated him as if he were some kid training to be an assassin as opposed to being his actual son. Which explains why he said all of those things about his parents. The first things he tells the man when they reunite is that he's a lousy father and that he was no better than the Templars. Things definitely escalated after that, but thankfully the two of them are able to set aside their differences for one another and came to terms with their issues that ultimately fixed their relationship for the better.

And then the Templars attacked-- well, not really. But you could definitely say getting kidnapped was an eye opening experience. Because of what they did to him he's kind of made it his mission to not only get back at them, but, to also ensure that what they did to him doesn't happen to anyone else. He wants to protect those that are dear to him. Which is why he was so adamant about wanting to protect Lucy. Even if it was more of a personal motivation, he and Lucy bonded during his time at Abstergo. He wanted to make sure that she never got hurt anymore. His relationship with Lucy was special, he never really treated her like an assassin. She was more of a friend to him and it was only natural for him to be completely devastated when he was forced by Juno (one of the many people from the First Civilization) to kill her. This was and will always be his biggest regret and it's made him realize that if he had stayed with the assassins, if he hadn't run away, he could have saved her.

~*~Desmond is kind of stubborn. Not hardheadedly so, but once he's sets his mind on something he'll do his best to see it to the end. This is probably a quality he got from his father, but, if he knows he can do something that'll help someone out he'll definitely do it. Even if he's risking his own life in the process. He's also very selfless and will put those that matter to him before himself. This is shown when he decided to rescue his father from Abstergo. Even if the man was an asshole, he's still his father. Another good example of this would be when he selflessly sacrificed himself to save the world. He could have shaped the world into a better place had he let it burn, but not wanting history to repeat itself he chose to save it.~*~

He also has the tendency to make light of any situation he's in. He prefers to poke fun at his problems rather than acknowledging that they are in fact problems. He's joked about being left alone in the darkness to be eaten alive by bats, and, then having to swim through stinky smelly sewers. He's even poked fun at the fact that there aren't any actual bathrooms in stadiums. It's like he does this to take the tension off of certain things. He has a refreshing sense of humor too, when he was a bartender he invented a drink called it the Shirley Templar. Just don't ask him to tell jokes. Also, if he's given the opportunity, he will tease his teammates. He used to constantly poke fun at Lucy's very serious business-like mannerisms. Of course when he gets teased in return he tries to take it in stride. He never really gets angry though.

The one thing that does irk him is when he's called useless. You can take a jibe at anything else about him and it'll just roll right off his back, but don't insult his worth. While it may seem like he does nothing but sit around on his butt all day, he is the only one who's capable of going into the Animus (which is a machine that allows one to relive their ancestors memories). And without him they basically have nothing. He isn't asking for a medal or anything, just maybe a little respect for what he has to go through, especially when he was so close to going crazy from the Bleeding Effect (which is a disorder you get from an overexposure to the Animus. Your ancestors memories blend in with your very own which makes it hard to distinguish between the two).

Abilities/Powers: Desmond is only human so he doesn't really have any supernatural powers. The only fancy gift he has (excluding the numerous assassin abilities he's picked up from his ancestors) is Eagle Vision. Eagle Vision is a sixth sense that has been passed down for centuries from the First Civilization to certain bloodline lineages. Those who possess this gift are able to sense how people and objects are related to them through a special colored glow (much like an aura). THIS basically gives Desmond a more through understanding of the world and the people around him. When it's activated allies and friends are illuminated in a blueish hue, enemies or spilled blood are illuminated in a reddish hue, targets and objectives are in gold, and informants, civilians and hiding spots will be in white.

Just like his ancestors, Desmond has the ability to eavesdrop, pickpocket, and blend in easily with crowds. The former he picked up during one of his (many) sessions in the Animus with his ancestor Ezio. He's known how to do the first two ever since he was a child.

Thanks to the Bleeding Effect (which basically means that Desmond spent too much time in the Animus reliving his ancestors memories) he's picked up various fighting and assassination techniques and is able to use a hidden blade extremely well. Later, after synchronizing with Ezio he picked up a skill called free running. Which is kind of like modern day parkour? Instead of doing fancy tricks and jumps in the air he can climb up various buildings, structures, and walls (given he has enough handholds to do so) and jump off of them. He is also capable of preforming leaps of faith. Thanks to reliving Ratonhnhaké:ton's memories he can now wield and fight with two weapons.

Oz Vessalius | Pandora Hearts | Reserved 2/

[personal profile] ninjawon 2012-11-15 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality:

Oz is good at making a positive first impressions. He's just so cheerful, always smiling and staying lighthearted no matter the situation. And whiel that may seem strange, smiles are actually what Oz uses to protect himself. He's quick to smile, to laugh, to make fun, and to enjoy whatever he's doing at the time he's doing them. He's seemingly not the type of person who'd let stress and fatigue get in the way of a good time, much less worries of any kind. And this is all partly true. He genuinely does like setting people at ease, and he likes smiles more than frowns. Not to say that he isn't confrontational when he needs to be, just that he prefers being friendly if he has the choice. In fact, he always prefers being friendly. It's almost unnatural the way he deals with every situation. In fact, it can get a bit creepy. It's not that Oz is too stupid to grasp the gravity of a situation, he just has the habit of hiding his true feelings from everyone around him.

Oz is the type of person who shows his affection with well-meaning teasing, though it often gets a little borderline-sadistic if he really likes you (and if he thinks it's fun to get a rise out of you). His closest friend, Gilbert, would be quick to say that he's like a tyrant. Oz enjoys acting as the 'villain' and has frequently pretended to be evil and sadistic, mostly because he likes throwing off the people around him. He is also incredibly flirtatious, and is bit of a ladies man. He's very weak to cute girls, unless said girls are evil and bloodthirsty, to which hey he can deal with that. Maybe. He doesn't deal well with people like him, those who are slightly two-faced and capable of fake smiles, and he's a lot more astute than people credit him for. It's difficult to get a rattled expression from him, as he is very calm in the face of most situations. He manages to hide his feelings quite well.

Oz is talented at adapting, a skill that he likes to flaunt when in bizarre situations, but the skill has darker reasons than expected. He doesn't like to cause trouble for others, not including pranks and/or light-hearted mischief, but actual pain and discomfort. He refuses to be a burden and in that way trivializes his own self-worth. His problems aren't important, his distress is never important, and if he's going to cause trouble then it's better to pretend that he has no problems in the first place. This is why he excels in keeping a smile on his face almost all the time. Most of this stems from the knowledge that he's unwanted especially in his father's eyes. He used to crave for attention, but he's long since been cured of that. Knowing that you're unwanted does terrible things to your self-esteem.

And despite his horrible childhood, Oz develops in a few positive ways in canon. Having been home-schooled for most of his childhood and then tossed into an alternate dimension full of blood thirsty chains for the rest, Oz comes out of his situation like a champ. He gets friends. He finds people he begins to care for. Despite his cynicism over the idea of being used just because he is a 'Vessalius', Oz truly begins to believe that they are worried for his sake, and not for the sake of his name. He even begins to assert his own identity from Jack's shadow. He is Oz Vessalius, thank you very much. He is a completely different person. He is his own being. He eventually realizes that hiding his problems only makes things worse (thanks to a giant wake-up call courtesy of one Elliot Nightray) and starts putting his efforts into trusting people.

Unfortunately, his progress comes to an abrupt halt later in canon. Jack, who is decidedly not what history portrayed him as, succeeds in abolishing all of that self-worth with just a few words. Oz is someone who does not deserve to hold the Vessalius name, in fact, he's not even a someone at all. His existence has brought nothing but shame and ruin to the people he's cared about the most, and his existence only goes so far as to be a chain. Oz is a tool to be used by Jack and nothing more. And the truly unfortunate event is that Oz believes Jack. He remembers the true past of what occurred 100 years ago when he killed people he hadn't wished to kill and watched as Alice sacrificed herself on his behalf. Knowing that she died to save him is what really affects Oz. Why? Because Oz's worst fear is having the people he cares about the most get hurt because of him.

Oz also has a fragment of Jack's soul in his body, which allows Jack to control his body from time to time.

On the surface level, Jack is almost a carbon copy of Oz. He's bright, fun, laid back, with the tendency to flirt with the ladies and go through life without a care for the world. Jack is loads more charismatic than Oz though, and has the air of someone who is used to wielding power and proving to others that he has the right. He has a flair for the stage and more importantly, is quite skilled at deceiving others. He thinks nothing of using people and tossing them aside for the sake of his goal. No one is as important to him as Lacie. He is completely obsessed with Lacie and is fixated with the idea that in order to make her happy, he has to drop the entire world into the Abyss. Why? Because Lacie is lonely! And if she can't come back to the world, then the entire world can join her instead. Jack is already knee-deep in the blood of the people he's sacrificed, and is determined to see it through to the end. He's capable of smiling while being inescapably cruel and simply does not care about the people who could be affected by his schemes. Whatever remorse Jack does feel has long since vanished. The memories that Oz sees feature a simple, happy Jack. One that is still fixated on Lacie, but is also content spending time with her and her brother. That time, sadly, has passed. He's spent over 100 years growing older then younger over and over again. Any shred of sanity that Jack may have at this point has disappeared.

Jack loves Lacie with all his heart and his soul. He believes that his existence is worthless compared to hers and if he had to die for her, then he would do it happily. It's a very dangerous love, not only for him, but for everyone standing in Jack's way.

Abilities/Powers:

Oz is capable of summoning a large scythe and chains in order to pierce the enemy. He can use it to destroy other Chains or creatures born in the Abyss. He, theoretically, has enough power to destroy the balance of the Abyss and the world. (Which isn't applicable in Haven, since there is no Abyss). His body is normal, despite belonging to Jack, and has an Incuse on his chest. The Incuse is merely a seal that count downs to how long Oz can use his power before being dragged down to the Abyss. Oz is somewhat skilled in swordfighting, but is better at making a run for it. He knows how to use a revolver as well.

Jack has the ability to use the power of scythe and chains as well and can take over Oz's body at any time.

Personality:
Loki is a lying liar who lies. End of.

❝ I was being sincere. ❞
❝ You are incapable of sincerity. ❞

Whilst the remark was made in jest, it's not wholly untrue; Loki had been expressing his thoughts and feelings on Thor's impending coronation as king of Asgard — that he is occasionally envious of Thor, that he loves him, and that Thor is every part the image of a king — in spite how he had long since planned to ruin his brother's 'big day' by allowing a few Frost Giants of Jötunheim into Asgard and into the Weapons Vault. His reasoning behind these actions — at least at this early point — were because he was perfectly aware that however much Thor might look the part of the king, he was not a king in temperament or manner, and if Thor were to be crowned as king, it would be for the express detriment of Asgard. It's a simple showing of the somewhat skewed manner in which Loki has, it would seem, always viewed sincerity and honesty. He wasn't being dishonest, per se, he simply wasn't revealing what he perceived to be the whole truth of the matter.

Thus, it is clear from the outset that Loki and Thor are vastly different individuals: Loki is noticeably quieter, more prone to thought, more acutely aware of a situation and the various facets involved in its construction, ranging from the animate to the inanimate — and ultimately, far more calculating. This is none so more evident as when after Thor's failure to be crowned as king, Thor wishes to seek retribution by enacting war on Jötunheim whilst Odin forbids it. Loki claims he agrees with Thor on everything, all of it, and states that there is nothing Thor can do without defying his father; Thor takes Loki's words as a recommendation of action, despite the latter's backpedalling. It is later revealed that this was the whole point — that not only had Loki wanted the coronation interrupted, he wished for his brother to make an error in judgement to delay his coronation even further, until such a point that he was ready.

Of course, it's not quite as cut and dry as that, despite the rather clear manner in which it shows Loki's ease with duplicity, and lack of concern as to how it might be perceived. Loki has always been envious of Thor, ever felt inferior and second best. On Asgard, Thor appears to be the quintessential Asgardian: he is strong, he is powerful, and he is an almost unrivalled warrior. Loki, on the other hand, is an average warrior by Asgardian standards, lacking the brute strength and force his brother so easily commands. As such, instead of committing himself to a futile attempt at mastering something he has no innate gift for, and something in which he could never compare to Thor, he commits himself to magic and sorcery — something he does excel at, even by Asgardian standards. However, his affinity for the art and his choosing over it over combat simply serves to set him further apart from others on Asgard — after all, Asgardian men are supposed to be warriors, and magic is nothing more than simple tricks and cowardice, a point of view even Thor repeats at times.

Outside of his gift for magic, sorcery, and illusions, Loki is well-renowned for his so-called silver tongue; Loki prizes his intellect, and as such, he has something of a way with words, a trait he uses primarily to get his own way, be it with lying, bending the truth, or flattery. Loki makes a point of discovering the weaknesses of others, even whilst he lacks the ability to truly empathise. As a trickster, Loki has always found enjoyment in pranks and in mischief, although the maliciousness of his actions varies and grow steadily more cruel and malevolent as events in Thor progress.

❝ and your death came by the son of odin. ❞

The crux of it is that Loki was not born on Asgard to the Æsir. Odin discovered the infant Loki abandoned in a temple after the war between Jötunheim and Asgard. Small and weak for the offspring of a giant, let alone the king, it was for this reason that Loki had been abandoned and left to die. Odin, taking pity on Loki and also sensing an opportunity to prevent a repeat of war in the future, took Loki back to Asgard to raise as his own, whilst refraining from telling any on Asgard — bar his wife, Frigga — the truth of Loki's heritage out of a desire to stop Loki from 'feeling different'. It failed. Volstagg once remarked that Loki has a 'lean and hungry' look to him, and that when he is with the other Asgardians at their feasts, he takes little delight in the food and drink, preferring instead to watch the others around him, as they eat and drink and laugh and talk with one another, and that is one of the traits that Volstagg finds distrustful — let alone his propensity for lies and falsehoods.

Odin's effort, therefore, was in vain as Loki grew up feeling different and apart regardless; as those on Asgard admired his brother, they mocked him and he felt eternally in his brother's shadow, thus creating a desperate desire to prove himself as equal to Thor, both to Asgard as a whole, and to Odin. It could be reasonable to assume that whilst Loki would have developed similarly if it were merely the other Asgardians he wanted to prove himself to, it is primarily his desire to prove himself to the man he believed to be his father that shaped his development.

As Loki has always been considered something of an untrustworthy dick by the rest of Asgard, his only friends — in as much as the word is applicable, which is not a great deal — appear to be friends of circumstance; by choosing to spend time with his brother, Thor's closest friends are thus the individuals with whom Loki himself is closest: the Warriors Three (Volstagg, Fandral, and Hogun), and Sif. Sif seems to have no end of disdain for Loki and the manner in which he conducts himself, perhaps stemming from the fact that she sought to prove herself as an equal warrior to the men of Asgard, whilst Loki is not considered an equal and formidable warrior, and she reads deliberate malevolence into his actions, believing him seeking Thor's banishment from Asgard deliberately. Hogun appears to agree, implying that when Laufey had mentioned that there were traitors in the house of Odin, so-called masters of magic that could help the Frost Giants break into Asgard, he had been speaking of Loki. Fandral, on the other hand, is one of the few that would defend Loki, claiming that he doubted Loki meant ill, only that he was fond of mischief.

However, despite the manner in which he is perceived by Asgard, and despite his feelings of inadequacy and jealousy, it is not until he learns the truth of his heritage that Loki's machinations truly become malevolent. His orchestrating of Thor's banishment had only been to help teach Thor humility, to help shape him into a better king, a king fit to rule, but as soon as the truth is revealed, Loki seeks to redirect events in his favour, rather than in Thor's. When he questioned Odin as to why he was taken from Jotünheim, he appears to twist Odin's words — that he had taken Loki not only because he was an innocent child left alive in bloodshed, but as proof that Frost Giants and Asgardians could live together peacefully — to reading an underhanded political purpose to his actions that had not been present: that he had been taken as a political chess piece, to be used and discarded whenever was necessary. It's implied, therefore, that Loki is that used to reading double meanings in both the words of others and himself that he takes little on face value, and he doubts the truth of much of what others say. Thus, when Loki is named as king of Asgard in Odin's place by 'his' mother, he seeks to use his newfound position to prove himself as a rightful and equal king to Thor in an effort to assail himself of the doubts that have plagued him since childhood, and the new doubts and disgust he feels towards himself after finding out that he is one of the 'monsters' that Asgardian children are warned of.

It is with this mixture of power and knowledge that Loki's true capabilities and depth for malevolent, self-serving cruelty are revealed: he travels to Midgard — Earth — to visit Thor and tell him falsehoods of Odin's death, that their mother had forbidden Thor ever to return to Asgard for the sake of peace between Jotünheim and Asgard. He also travels to Jotünheim to make a deal with Laufey, stating that he will grant passage to Asgard for Laufey and a handful of Frost Giants, hidden from the all-seeing Heimdall, to allow them to take back the Casket of Ancient Winters that Odin had stolen at the end of the last war, and for Laufey to slay Odin once and for all.

Naturally, of course, Loki only intends to honour a small degree of this; when the Frost Giants are on Asgard and Laufey is poised to kill Odin, Loki kills Laufey himself, proclaiming himself the son of Odin, and he intends to use Laufey's attempt on Odin's life to once again springboard his supposed suitability for the throne by saving Odin, and as a cause to use the Bifröst — a means of travel between worlds — as a weapon to destroy all of Jotünheim and the Frost Giants, a means to wipe out all that would betray him as not being a true child of Asgard, thus ensuring his right to the throne. In essence, he seeks to destroy external aspects of the universe that represent the parts of himself that he dislikes.

❝ you could never have a frost giant on the throne of asgard. ❞

Naturally, of course, just as Thor's earlier attempts to wreak vengeance on Jotünheim resulted in his banishment from Asgard, Odin — after awakening from the Odinsleep — frowns equally (or more accurately, more so) on Loki's attempted genocide, and the manner in which he sought to keep Thor from Asgard with the use of lies and the Asgardian weapon, the Destroyer. Loki himself, however, views the rejection not as a rejection of his methods, but as a rejection of his person, proof once and for all that he would never be regarded as equal to Thor in the eyes of any on Asgard, especially not the All-Father. This is compounded by Thor's worthiness in picking up the hammer Mjölnir, impossible to lift by any who are not worthy of it. Loki, of course, finds himself unable to lift it, thus unequal to Thor and unworthy of the throne of Asgard, cementing his jealousy and burgeoning hatred of Thor.

Loki is thus bitter, cynical and distrusting, harbouring a deep loathing of everything that appears to receive Thor's and Odin's affections in the way that he had desired but perceived never to have. He considers his rightful place to be king, and that Thor usurped him and he now deserves recompense for that act.

However, it is with this cementing of feelings towards both Thor and the All-Father that Loki — perhaps ironically — appears to come to a degree of acceptance for himself and his place as the god of mischief and lies, and where he once would have taken delight in mere mischief, and relatively benign pranks, he now takes delight in chaos and malevolence.

He is, despite his fondness for intelligence over force, short tempered and quick to anger, and his temper often gets the better of him when he feels as if things are not going his way, the way he believes they ought to be going and in the way he deserves. However, as soon as things are going in a way he's happy with, or a way suitable to his manipulations and machinations, he's quite happy to bide his time, quietly orchestrating events from the sidelines and with whispered words and influence to those useful to him. Despite his intellect, however, he is vain, arrogant and prone to showmanship, traits that, regardless of outside influences, almost constantly and consistently doom his schemes to failure.

Loki's isolation and rejection on Asgard has allowed him to become incredibly self-serving and self-sufficient, and he will pointedly seek out individuals who are useful to him, and that alone. He makes a point of caring for no-one beyond the manner in which they can be used by him to further his own ends, however it's difficult to deny that his actions are guided by his emotions and his past, nor is it difficult to see that he still cares for Odin and Thor in some shape and form in spite of his actions — or more accurately, because of his actions.

Between Thor and Avengers, Loki undergoes several changes. Primarily, whilst he certainly has aims and goals in Thor, they're more scattered and reactionary than what is evidenced in Avengers. Much of the development, changes, and showcasing of Loki's psyche comes as a direct result of the circumstances he finds himself in against his will.

Previous Game History:

I have a timeline written out over here! It’s a little bare and is missing a bit towards the end, but it’s got most of the important events written down, and important threads linked to.

Agito and Akito originally arrived in Polychromatic on July Seventeenth, 2011. At first, the only one they knew in the city was Kazu Mikura, the right hand man of Akito’s love interest, a close friend, and a teammate. They already knew how to take care of themselves pretty well, so being in the City wasn’t hard. Dealing with the curses normally wasn’t difficult, and dealing with family members who eventually started arriving wasn’t that horrible, and making friends was easy enough for Akito.

Even with being in the City for over a year, they didn’t change too much. Akito confessed to Ikki after a terrifying curse, and eventually the crowding on Ikki lessened at least a little. His feelings for Ikki grew stronger-- but as friends. He grew more protective of everyone, he gained a little crush on Akira Udou (another castmate), adopted a few pets and strengthened his bonds with those he already knew, and gained more bonds with others he didn’t.

Agito was slightly more complicated. He and Ikki died together, murdered while another resident of the City tried to keep entertained, and had to deal with the guilt of both letting Ikki die off, and letting Akito’s body suffer through that. They’ve got a stab wound right over the heart to show for it, and suffered a few weeks of having their body be stuck somewhere in the early stages of rigor mortis, as well as being unable to move properly, unable to train properly, and without the ability to breathe. This made him want to grow stronger, tougher, and so-- he learned how to properly fight with just his fists and legs, instead of fully depending on the use of his air trecks. He grew a little more independent from Akito during this time..

Lind didn’t grow much as an individual! He grew mentally with the other two, learning through Agito, watching as they grew, protected someone important to him when they were in trouble, but in poly? He was rarely out, as there weren’t many life or death situations he had to save Agito and Akito from.

Personality:

Agito, Akito, and Lind are three separate personalities, entirely different beings-- all sharing the same tiny body. They exist together, depending on each other for some things, and keeping secrets from each other when they feel it’s necessary. They’ve all got their own special qualities, bits and pieces that separate them, different belief systems, coping mechanisms, and-- well, it’d be entirely impossible to explain them as a whole, without going into who they are separately.

Lind was the first personality to come into existence, and is probably the most complicated one to try and explain given where he came from, why he’s in their body, how he acts, and his intentions as a whole. Lind came from Gazelle, the maternal parent of the body the three reside in. Well, not necessarily “came” from like a child comes from a parent, but when their (Agito’s, Akito’s, and Lind’s) body was first developed and thus aged up about four or five years inside of Air Gear’s equivalent of an incubator, Gazelle’s “mind” was thrust into the body (somehow), creating Lind. Lind has all of Gazelle’s experience, all of her abilities, remembers everything Gazelle could possibly remember-- but at the same time, he’s certainly not Gazelle. The differences between Lind and Gazelle are fairly obvious. When Gazelle was alive, she was cheerful, curious about everything, and acted fairly childish considering she was about eighteen years old at the time-- because Gazelle couldn’t remember anything about her past, she was a new person at that time. Lind does have a few of her qualities, but he takes after Kaito (Gazelle’s lover and this body’s paternal parent) much more than he does Gazelle. Gazelle also admired Kaito, wanted to be more similar to him, and so Lind’s personality could be called a near-copy of Kaito’s own as even Agito says-- Lind “smells” like Kaito, he “feels” like him.

Saying he’s like Kaito doesn’t explain Lind! Lind can be rather cynical, self-centered, and is driven only by his own goals-- by appearances, at least. However, he’s rather protective of Agito and Akito, too; he comes out when they’re in trouble, pushes them back so he can save them. He goes out of his way to explain things to them, insults Agito’s form when it’s off, but also assists Agito when he’s in trouble by lending him half his strength. Lind isn’t very active. He doesn’t even come into the canon until much later into the story, after Agito’s training has made their body strong enough to “handle” Lind’s ability. Even then, he never comes out unless he’s absolutely needed, doesn’t even speak up unless there’s trouble he can assist with. When he comes out, it’s to assist one of the very, very few people he cares about, or it’s to save their own ass. He gives off an egotistical air, telling Orca, another stormrider, when he was about to attack just so Orca couldn’t say he “caught him off guard”, and uses tricks just to show off when he’s in the middle of a life-or-death fight. Lind’s lips are almost always upturned at the corners, whether it’s a soft smile (only towards Kaito) or a sarcastic smirk ( for enemies, of course). The only time this differs? When Agito catches him off guard, or doesn’t seem to care to cooperate or listen to him. He does affectionately call Agito and Akito his “babies”, so despite the annoyances they ( or rather, mainly Agito ) cause, Lind doesn’t mind that much.

Akito is the second-born personality, and the only one who’s had a decent amount of time alone inside their body. Well, maybe not completely alone, but during the time between their birth, Lind’s “sleep”, and Agito’s “birth”, there were a few years where it was quiet inside that head-- aside from his own thoughts.

Akito is the most extroverted of the three. The most outgoing, the clingiest, and the only one of the three who really cares about or bothers to make friends. He’s sociable when he feels like it, which is most the time he’s out and about. Akito is cheerful, naturally happy, well-mannered, outgoing, possessive, gets attached to others easily, enjoys being in the presence of others, loves to cuddle up to others, and loves to kiss when he can. He’s cute, tiny, his voice sounds rather high-pitched, and all the girls in his class were so excited when he transferred into it because he and Ikki were living together (scandalous!) and Akito is just one adorable little ball of fluff. At first glance.

Akito was raised with Kaito Wanijima, who used to call himself their older brother (in the later chapters of the manga, Lind revealed to Akito and Agito that he was their father not their brother), and he was the one who trained Akito up to be the Fang King originally. He wanted Akito to be strong-- and while that’s perfectly acceptable, once Akito was strong, once he realized the destructive power of his Road and caused someone else pain (and possibly killed a person), Kaito caged him up, literally. It was Kaito’s way of protecting Akito from the world and anything that might try to hurt him, but that’s definitely not how Akito saw it. Akito was traumatized from that event, enough to awaken Agito so that Agito could take over and protect Akito from Kaito, and keep him from having to hurt anyone else. Ever since this, Akito’s refused to use air trecks, hasn’t “flown” with his own strength, and instead relies on Agito to fight all his physical battles for him.

Kaito wasn’t very affectionate. He didn’t know how to properly express his feelings, and so as soon as Akito was able to escape from under him, he latched onto Ikki and never let go. He saw Ikki as his wings, like a lot of other characters from Air Gear did. Except with Akito (and a decent amount of the female cast), those wings were something he needed to be extra close to. He fell in love with Ikki at first sight, kissed him first chance he got, and attached to his side whenever possible since then-- with the occasional sneaked kiss before Ikki had the chance to push him away. He’s very, very emotionally attached to Ikki, although after a year in the City, and the confession he gave to Ikki ( and the rejection afterward ), Akito’s attachment lessened just a bit on Ikki, and he was much more openly attached to friends, and less just singularly clinging onto Ikki as hard as he possibly could. The possessive quality he had dimmed, and after going through curses over and over again-- he’s also gotten a little less outgoing, and not as cheerful all the time. Akito’s learned to be a little more cautious over those he attaches to, and a little more paranoid when creating friendships.

At his core, Akito will always be that cute, optimistic ball of fluff who dreams of reaching the sky and being able to fly freely with all the other kids his age. He dreams of flying together with Ikki, being able to live happily with his friends, and not worry over injuries that might be caused in the next battle, the next curse, the next life-threatening event that goes by. The optimism keeps his spirits high enough not to get too depressed over anything that may happen. There’s always tomorrow, there’s always the chance of winning unscathed (not that he minds scratches and bruises, he’s still a teenaged boy who will play rough when everyone else is), and he believes that with Agito and his friends standing with him, they’ll get through whatever is thrown at them just fine.

Agito is the one who puts his all into getting them out of said situations, and keeping Akito safe and happy.

For the longest of time, Agito considered his entire existence to center around just protecting Akito -- to keep him safe and to protect him from harm, especially from Kaito. In Agito’s mind, he was Akito’s shield, and Akito’s shield alone. Disposable, easily replaced, and thought Ikki was the one who would completely replace his existence in Akito’s life-- be more to him, even. It took standing in front of a Fang and awaiting his ( and his alone, what is Air Gear logic ) own demise-- and Ikki jumping in front of him to make Agito realize he was something more than just that. He still puts priority on Akito, but he has a sense of self in his mind that Agito never stopped to consider before.

To the public eye, he’s gruff, rough, and not afraid to shove his air trecks in someone’s face if they irritate him enough. Agito curses frequently, often using the word “fuck” even in situations when it seems less than appropriate. His body is tiny-- standing at only four feet ten inches ( 148cm ), but his presence is much larger than that. He’s a King, and he knows it. Agito is very proud of his Fang, his abilities, and isn’t afraid to show it. Agito also is very strict. When he’s training another stormrider, he’ll hound on them, insult them until they get it right, and calls his own teammates useless ( granted, they were pretty weak at the time )-- but that’s also because he’s so dedicated to making them stronger.

Agito has insecurities just like everyone else, though -- and maybe even more so than most. He’s constantly hounding on himself for being too weak, not being able to protect his friends well enough, not having enough muscle or body mass to take down what he needs to. Agito makes up for his small physical body with his mental strengths, but that still doesn’t make him feel like it’s enough for him. He tries to hold the weight of everyone and everything on his small shoulders, and it’s hard-- but Agito does his best and never gives up, because his friends, Akito-- they mean more to him than he’d ever let on to the people themselves ( and he makes a habit of making sure how much he cares never gets out to anyone ). When he’s got someone he cares about, Agito protects them forever, even if they betray him, abandon him, he never does the same for them- because his friends are far and in between, and once he trusts someone- that trust never quite dissipates, nor does the bond.

But the kicks, punches, screams, and shouting he directs at his friends? Probably doesn’t get that connection across at all, and that’s just how he likes it-- because fuck letting anyone know he actually does care about them, to hell with feelings, he clearly doesn’t have any of those towards anyone. Agito follows his instinct, almost always. He won’t rush straight into battle unless he knows it’s a fight he can win, effortlessly. Agito fights with integrity, also. Unless it’s life or death, win or lose everything, he’ll fight with everything he has, and follow the rules while doing it.

Together, they make the oddest of combinations-- but at the same time, one that works for them. Agito fights for Akito, Akito encourages Agito and protects him too, in his own way. And Lind, he watches over the other two, playing the part of the silent protector and at times-- the ruthless fighter. Akito socializes, Agito grumbles every time he’s forced to assist those in his social circle. Agito punches and kicks with all his might, Akito keeps close, hugs and coddles. They get along perfectly, those two. Lind-- well, Lind’s relationship with the other two can be a little more complicated. Agito doesn’t care for him, gets irritated at him, but he accepts his assistance anyway. Akito doesn’t seem to mind him too much, but they’re not close either. They make it work, somehow. Agito and Akito switch when appropriate, with just the flip of that eyepatch. They share nearly everything between each other, keep each other safe, depend on each other and that’s how they get by. Together.

Previous Game History:
In July 2011, Kazu was thrown out of his own dimension and into a punch to the face—into a world governed by whim, bureaucratic deities, and a bizarre carnival theme (carousels and ticking clocks and curses which broke at midnight, oh my).

Welcome to the City.

Fortunately for Kazu's team-dependent sensibilities, his most vicious teammate Akito/Agito arrived a few weeks after him, followed by the queen of mechanics Kururu. Whatever else came, Kazu wasn't on his own—and that made everything easier to handle. Between days when Akito turned into a vampire, Kururu exploded microwaves in an effort to reassemble parts, and the City transformed into Las Vegas, however, Kazu developed a sort of casual acceptance about the inevitability of it all. What happened during curses stayed relevant to those curses alone and had no bearing on one's character or the rest of the world. In the course of those months, he met a wide host of people, including Roxas (his first humanesque alien!), Kazuo Kiriyama (his first sociopath), Carla (dangerous, smart-mouthed, and unpredictable), Mae Crawford (nice girl, scarily toppy) and Yuri Lowell—the last for whom he would form a mild respect. People from his world came and went—in particular Spitfire, the man who'd passed his title and legacy to Kazu, and who'd died for him with hardly a word exchanged. As a result, Kazu grew almost morbidly attached to the City: as a second chance of sorts, with more time to train, because he could never be sure that he'd be strong enough to handle everything at home.

Then, in December 2011, Kogarasumaru's leader arrived— wheelchair-bound, and three months behind everybody else in the timeline.

As time passed, Agito and Kazu formed an understanding that Ikki, who'd been such a relentless godmode in his own world, was nowhere near so highly-leveled in this one. That he might, in fact, have to be their leader in truth: the person they'd sacrifice anything to guard because their dependence on him could no longer be trusted. This became critical in February, when the City began to fall apart. As it split into two dimensions, the bulk of its denizens were left in a world disintengrating into sand, with monsters and mindcontrolling slugs crawling out of the abyss. All of Kogarasumaru was infected at least once, and out of the chaos, Kazu's certainty—that curses would always break and needed to have no bearing afterwards—started to crumble.

This culminated in a total disintegration when Akito and Ikki were caught and killed in a streak of serial murders across the City. While they resurrected as undead afterwards, the incident completely devastated Kazu, particularly given Ikki's refusal to let any of his teammates trade the deities for his goddamn life back. Desperate as always for outside reassurance, Kazu began to depend more on the cheer and confidence of Elmer C. Albatross and Yuri Lowell, to take interest in Jast, a quirky and powerful entity with sky / natural ties, as well as to look for answers regarding the City's underlying nature. Most importantly, after exhaustive conversations with Yuri, Kazu traded for Ikki's life—giving up, to some extent, on the idea of his leader as infallible and capable of saving himself alone.

He readjusted to a life of minor chaos as time passed and more familiar faces arrived. Spitfire returned in June and Kazu trained with him a little, falling into a quick and easy pattern of wanting his approval. Over successive months, he befriended Merlin, Setsuna Mudou and Dave Strider in the course of a tumultous curse which turned his team against one another under the wing of an imaginary future—and he regained the Regalia courtesy of a trade from Spitfire, which lost the latter his ability to walk for a month. In short, Kazu became increasingly determined to retain all his training and memories when he inevitably left the City for home. But things had eased: he wasn't alone, the curses had lightened, and he had every second chance he wanted. Even as the friends he'd made in the City vanished one by one, Kazu carried on.

The end of September, however, saw both Ikki and Spitfire sent home.

Their disappearances plunged Kazu into a gloom fit to do Hamlet proud. But this wasn't to last: mid-month, he began to behave normally again, keeping company with Akito and Agito, hanging out with friends, setting Ikki's possessions on fire, and coping with the curses at large. This, of course, had no healthy root: ambushed by Vincent Nightray and Leo Baskerville, Kazu had unknowingly been contracted to a monster which erased all his most upsetting memories as they arose—and which would also behead everything around him whenever he felt endangered. He had forgotten being left behind. The realisation that this wasn't a prolonged curse only occurred after he decapitated Dave Strider—who, upon resurrection, dragged Kazu sideways into one of the City's secret dimensions... where the contracted monster slumbered between summons. Their pursuit of this mystery took the rest of the month, though the culprit was never discovered.
Personality:
There's a trick question they tell along the lines of: "How do you put a giraffe in a refrigerator?"

The "real" answer is, of course, that you can't. (Well, maybe if you chopped the giraffe up, you sicko, but that's not his solution.) The "right" answer is simple: open the refrigerator, put the giraffe in, and close the door.

Kazu's one of those guys who knows both the real answer and the right one. The problem is—surrounded as he is by geniuses who stuff metaphorical giraffes into refrigerators all the time—he gets caught between answers. Too afraid to make the jump but too aware of how thin the rules are to stay down, his resulting confusion makes him hesitate at critical moments. Realism comes to resemble cowardice; becomes it, given the slightest prompt. That Kazu's his team's best speedster, heir to the Flame Road and Regalia, has gained him a little confidence, but it hasn't changed his intrinsic beliefs. He's always known himself to be least remarkable: the errand-runner, the ordinary guy—and just a little bit of a coward. Failure, expectation, responsibility, pressure—they shake him as much as they ever did. Even now, his self-judgment lingers, holding him fast in second place.

First impressions of Kazu do present nothing special: the formulaic teenage punk with a heart of gold. Despite an extensive resume of property damage and brawling and gang membership since middle school, he maintains an idealism that borders on naivety, defending justice, mercy and respect for the ladies (though he's not opposed to the occasional peek of dishabille—shut up, teenage boys have needs). It doesn't stop him from pranking, boasting and roughhousing with the best of them, however—and if he doesn't often initiate plans, that only makes him a better lieutenant. What trust he doesn't put in himself, he's more than willing to place in his friends—and even when Kazu should falter, his loyalty can be trusted to eventually pull through.

When it comes to team roles, Kazu plays the straight man, foil to the leader's jokes—and dispenser of beatings as warranted via the former. (Because what the hell, even a guy ranking Ordinary Errand Service #5 of Ikki's Empire deserves some dignity. Especially when it's him.) He's reactive as a result, quick to flail and lash back in turns. While part of his flustering can be attributed to the utter weirdness of the company he keeps—well, there's, frankly, a little too much to excuse. Kazu's only ever cool by accident—in moments when he doesn't consider impressions or dignity or naming his attacks, but simply acts to realign the world to the way it should be.

All his fumbling belies a sharp mind. With his firm grip on reality, Kazu's often first to spot downsides to his illustrious leader's plans, and he isn't afraid to call Ikki out on them. He has a disturbingly keen eye for detail, limited only by his occasional lack of vision. Anything that his sense of normalcy can't process—like the fact that a girl in his class is head-over-heels for him—simply slips under his radar. It's not a weakness that extends to A-Ts; in those competitions, Kazu's nothing if not effective.

Even that wouldn't be as much a skill if it weren't backed up by solid experience and a staggering drive. It's a given that hard work can't beat raw talent. With the right foundation, though, it sure can give a goddamn run for its money—and that's what Kazu bets on. He drills himself harder than anyone else on Kogarasumaru, pushing himself 'til breakdown. Since childhood, this energy has been directed towards keeping up with his best friend. Reason for it is, as far as Kazu's concerned, self-evident: air's for breathing, storm are for chasing, and Minami Itsuki's the best fucking leader for following. It's such an encompassing belief that he's all but forgotten years when he wasn't Ikki's second in every respect. Only under the preceding Flame King Spitfire's mentorship—and some shounen headpunching—does Kazu realise that backing his leader doesn't necessitate living in his shadow. Despite their common goals, mindlessly dogging Ikki's steps isn't a road—and Kazu's competitive enough, after all, to want to win in his own right.

That Kazu has risen to rival his best friend, however, doesn't change his role. That's what friendship means: loyalty transcends the need to be the (singular) best. If there's a limit to Kazu's particular brand of faith, it has yet to be reached. He's there when needed, glad to enact vengeance on behalf of the fallen—or to die for the sake of the team's victory. Just give the order.

A year's experience in a strange world has, in some ways, strengthened Kazu: he's more willing to take things in stride—to bitch and freak less in favor of focusing upon the problem at hand. His temper's a little sharper, his inclination to blame skybound omnipotence and fate for bad luck has been well-honed, and he's somewhat more guarded around strangers. (Did you know? Murderous sociopaths can look just like normal people.) Under pressure, however, Kazu handles disasters with a kind of desperate energy, and does so while relying only on people who've been tested and shown to be true; he's turned less likely to seek outside authority on controlling personal emergencies.

This has evolved into a certain ruthless streak. Where Kazu once found himself friends with a self-admitted murderer who'd butchered a number of his classmates, and spent weeks after this admission unsure about how to deal with him, time's burned that uncertainty away. In the wake of all his disasters, Kazu's no longer willing to take chances with his friends' lives. This is, perhaps, his critical weakness. Kazu will go to any end, use any means in order to see to a friend's safety. If the choice comes to it, no matter any hesitation or fear, he'll sacrifice himself first every time. Because the truth is that a year was never long enough, and Kazu recognises that he's still hardly as strong as he needs to be. Time in a world run by mysterious and mad gods has done nothing for his inferiority complex—rather, it's soldered that tendency with a determined sacrificial streak. For all his experiences learned and distances crossed, Kazu knows that he's still no king at all—just a pawn stranded halfway across the board: the easiest to cast down.
Abilities/Powers:
For well-practiced riders, Air Trecks (souped-up rollerblades with engines and fancy programming) allow them to roll everywhere: scaling buildings, running atop fences and taking leaps greater than usually possible for human legs via acceleration. On his trecks, Kazu can get up to speeds fit to break the sound barrier and "vanish" from sight, seeming to stop time for himself as a result of his superspeeding. Using friction + Air Gear logic, he can generate heat to transform into drafts of flame and manipulate them via wheels and air currents. Those drafts can be used to generate brief illusory clones of Kazu through the afterimages he leaves via speeding and heat mirages. He's also a decent copyist, analysing the tricks of opponents and learning to mimic them on the fly.

... Look, it's shounen manga magic. Just go with it. There's a complete list of his tricks here!

Sample Entry Two:
His lungs ache.

His lungs ache, and his body aches from calves to shoulders, and nothing's looming yet out of this hidden shadow of a place, this city behind the City, which means they can stop running. For now, for the next five minutes—for some time, which has to be good enough.

The sky's hollowed dark above their heads, the street a stretch of warped lights and greying buildings, and when he rolls a little forward, the pavement grates differently underneath his wheels. Strange and not-strange, the familiar twisted away, and he's balling a fist at the sight even as his breathing slows again. More secrets, more goddamn monsters and, above it all, the deities sitting pretty on their paperwork thrones, surrounded by eyeballs in jars and jewelry and traded memories wreathing their offices like smoke. And maybe it'll go back to normal—maybe this was just meant to be a scare like any other curse, breakable like any other curse, but he's sick and goddamn tired of this. Not for the first time in the year, all Mikura Kazu wants—craves, for a moment, sharp in every vein—is something to burn.

(And maybe that's just a defense still against the memory of blood in a sharp scatter through the air, the head severed and the body falling, but—)

He jerks away from that thought—glances over at his companion instead. His friend, who—in addition to flying and being a master of time—apparently shakes off decapitation like it's no damn thing. It's a thing to be grateful for, and maybe he will be in another minute or two, but at the moment all Kazu can feel is his hand still flexed tight and his throat full of scorch and the blood heavy and blackening on his hoodie.

After a beat, he lets his fingers slacken after all. This isn't fucking fair, he thinks—and if there's a little hollowness in that idea, in the thought that somebody like him could ever tip the status quo—well, that doesn't matter right now anyway. One thing at a time. They're at three minutes and counting, and a scene free of mysteriously decapitated bodies. At least they ought to be safe.

"Oi," he says—jams his hands into his pockets as he nudges the guy's side, and tries not to seem uncertain because neither of them need that. "You're okay, right?" Doubtfully, he side-eyes the open ends of the deserted street. "What's with this place anyway?"
Note:
At his current point in Polychromatic, Kazu has yet to be uncontracted from the chain Humpty Dumpty! I understand that this will be left behind, but that still leaves the memories Humpty Dumpty cut out: basically, everything involving Ikki and Spitfire. Given their influence, while I'd prefer that Humpty Dumpty's block remain for now with an option to remove it later if any characters in Haven have the powers for mental muckery, I am also cool with having those memories restored to him for gameplay in Haven. Just let me know either way!
