APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN!
The next processing date is Friday 11th October

IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE

We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every two weeks, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. If you wish to request a specific apartment, please do so in the relevant part of the application. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Every attempt will be made to place a character in their chosen apartments, though this may not always be possible depending on the slots available.

Applications are open constantly, but are only processed every other Friday at 7PM EST. The Saturday following acceptance, an IC mingle log will be posted for characters to be introduced to the game.

We now have a test drive community at [community profile] haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. Re: Soul Eater Evans | Soul Eater | Reserved

[personal profile] scytheyouout 2012-10-25 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality: Soul's a pretty cool guy. He eats kishin souls and doesn't afraid of anything.

But really. He's very relaxed, laid-back person. He's definitely a follower, not a leader. He's more the adviser type. Someone else might be in charge, but he won't hesitate to call them out on stupid, reckless behavior. He might not be calling the shots, but the person who is will never have to wonder what he thinks of the decisions they make. Because Soul will tell them. And he will be loud. And he will yell. And he will do what it takes to get their attention. This works... sometimes. At least, it works when it really seems to matter. Maka, for instance, is the most stubborn person he knows. Maka does what Maka wants whenever Maka wants to. She runs into situations without thinking, she listens to her heart whereas Soul listens to logic and reason. He often tells his Meister that she's doing something dumb or reckless in an effort to keep her from harm.

That is actually a very important facet of Soul. He is incredibly loyal and dedicated. He doesn't break promises, he doesn't switch sides. He is always looking out for his friends and he refuses to see them come to harm. Maka especially. He's her Weapon. It's his duty to keep her from getting hurt. It may not look like he cares about much, but under the surface, Soul is one determined kid. He protects Maka without hesitation. When she freezes, he acts for her -- putting himself in harms way to keep her safe.

Soul is able to keep himself calm and composed no matter how difficult things get. He manages to remain level-headed and think clearly, offering insight into various situations that others may have overlooked. However, he's never wordy. In fact, he's anything but. Soul is very blunt. No skirting around issues, he will tell it like it is. Which is not always what people want to hear.

For a long time he was trying to reach his own expectations of what "cool" looked and acted like and in a lot of ways he still is. Sure, he's a Death Scythe now, but that hasn't done much for his confidence or his self-esteem. He feels that without Maka, he is completely useless. He can't fight on his own and he's not strong or fast. At least not strong enough to do any good.

Despite wanting to be cool, Soul does not want to be popular. He fears emotional attachment, always keeping a bit of distance between others. He's reluctant to talk to anyone about his problems - he's tight lipped about his past and his family, not even Maka is aware that he has a brother, nor did he say a word to her when he was first infected with Black Blood about the dreams he had of the Little Ogre.

Music is very, very important to Soul even if it is a bit of a catch-22. Memories of his past, of his family, his brother revolve mostly around music and he still hasn't been able to move beyond them. Pieces that remind him of home - especially things being played on violin - tend to upset him. On the other hand, he's loves to talk about music with others, showing that he has a fondness for jazz and swing. Despite his reluctance to play for anyone, he does enjoy it and could easily stay in the music room for hours on end.

Abilities/Powers:

Weapon - Soul can physically transform himself into a scythe. He doesn’t always have to transform completely. He can turn his entire arm into a blade, or he can transform just his forearm to make fighting a bit easier. Now that he’s a Death Scythe, he can choose to have the blade come out of his arm, instead of transforming any part of the limb itself.

Noise Canceling – This power was gained after defeating the witch Arachne. Through Maka, Soul is able to sense person’s soul wavelength. Unlike his Meister who can “see” souls, he can “hear” the sound of a person’s wavelength. Using the piano in the black room he is able to produce a “reverse phrase signal” to nullify that wavelength, which directly affects a person’s abilities. Basically it’s like when something is so loud that it’s painful, but then someone is smart enough to go and turn the volume down. The ability is kind of self-explanatory once you know how Soul senses wavelengths.

Black Blood - Inside his head is this little room called the Black Room. It’s inhabited by the Little Ogre/Little Demon who was “born” when Soul was first infected with the Black Blood. Upon activation, he can connect with everyone performing Soul Resonance with him. It gives him and his partner(s) a lot of strength and power. Which is awesome, but there’s a catch. Every time he uses it he, and possibly his partner, runs the risk of falling prey to madness and as such is used only as last resort. He’s managed to get a bit of control over the insanity – drawing the strength he needs out of the Black Blood while keeping the madness in check. It’s still all pretty new to him -- he doesn’t quite know its limits, or his for that matter, and it definitely puts a strain on him.

Anti-Demon Wavelength/Soul Perception
- This is only possible during Soul Resonance with his Meister, Maka. The Anti-Demon wavelength protects him from insanity and Soul perception is just what it sounds like - the ability to perceive souls. As noted before, he hears them.

Piano - Soul thinks he is the worst pianist ever, but don’t listen to him because he doesn’t know what he’s talking about. By playing the piano in the Black Room, he has the ability to manipulate Soul Wavelengths by treating them as music. The longer he plays, the more he is at risk of falling deeper into insanity.

*So he can play the piano in his head. Awesome. What does it do?*

  • Can create a perfect Chain Resonance under impossible conditions by creating sound waves and a rhythm that all Soul Wavelengths resonating with him can follow. This makes them all much stronger and much more agile.
  • By increasing the tempo of the song, his team members gain more attack speed. Certain chords increase their attack strength. He can also do the opposite, making him able to slow enemies down.
  • Can spread Anti-Demon wavelength to others, sometimes over huge distances by using the power of Arachne’s spider webs as a medium between the piano and other people.

Form Manipulation - What it sounds like. He can change the appearance of his Weapon form.

Flight - Through Soul Resonance with Maka’s Grigori Soul, he can manifest wings in his Weapon form, allowing both him and Maka to fly.

Sharper Scythe – It does what it says on the tin. This ability makes the blade of Soul’s scythe incredibly sharp. Sharp enough to cut through objects and materials he never could under normal circumstances. He has used this ability all of once when he was possessed by black blood in his body. It is unknown if he will be able to use this ability without losing his sanity.

Dark Piano– Soul possesses the unique ability to change the blade of his scythe into a keyboard. Striking its keys sends out sound waves powerful enough to knock people off of their feet and rip into the ground. The only time he has used this ability was when he was taken over by the black blood. It’s unknown if he can use this power without losing his sanity.

Sample Entry: Thread from Mayfield_RPG

Sample Entry Two:

“Leave me behind… I can’t fight together with you anymore. Sorry… You haven’t done anything wrong. Everything’s my fault. Just leave me behind… After all, I’m just a burden to you, aren’t I, Soul? I’m not strong. I can’t do anything on my own. ”

Those words stung more than Maka could have possibly imagined. Soul could only stand there and stare at his Meister. His Meister… just sitting there with her shoulders hunched like she was trying to carry the weight of the world. A heavy frown pulled at his lips, his brow furrowed, he clenched his fists so tight that the thin layer of skin covering his knuckles looked like it had been bleached white.

What did she see? What did she see in that last chapter that would do this to her? Maka wasn’t as strong as Black Star or Kid, but that didn’t matter to him. It never had. Why would she think that had changed? Damn it… it was this stupid book. It had to be.

“What the hell are you talking about? You're letting this stupid book influence you. It's got you feeling like you've done something wrong.,” he swallowed hard, waiting a moment to make sure his voice wouldn’t start shaking. “So don’t you go spouting nonsense because of those feelings!”

Silence. His heart raced. Maka… she couldn’t do this to him. She was better than this.

“You saw something in the previous chapter too, didn’t you, Soul…?
"

Soul’s breath hitched painfully in his chest, a lump forming in the back of his throat. So she’s figured him out, huh? That he’s not as great as he wants to be, as he tries to be, yearns to be. Tch, who did he think he was? Always trying to be so cool, trying to be everything he knows he’s not.

NO. No that wasn’t true. To hell with this. To hell with what this book was doing to his head. Maka wouldn’t do something stupid like this. She wouldn’t. She was different.

-----

Soul’s fingers lifted from the keys, that last chord still ringing in his ears -- broken and dissonant and something he could never really place, only knew that it hurt.

“Wonderful! Just as expected from the son of the Evans family.” The crowd applauded. Of course they would applaud. They had to be polite, didn’t they? Especially after the way they reacted to his brother’s performance.

Some of the people here could tell the difference. No, honestly there might not be anyone who could tell. But those who could tell…?

“He’s every bit the musician his older brother Wes is.”
“Definitely!”

They could see, they could hear, the difference. Soul and his brother were at two completely different levels and Wes was at one that he could never hope to reach.

“Is that why you chose that girl?” Wes. It was Wes.

The voice made him freeze. His shoulders stiffened and he shoved his hands into his pockets so no one could see how tightly he was clenching his fists. Wes. So cool, so smooth, so… so… everything he could never be.

“NO!” venom dripped from the word he spat at his brother. Who the hell did he think he was? He had no right! What did Wes know? Nothing. He didn’t know anything.

"You left because you wanted to get away from music. From home…” Wes hesitated, looking Soul in the eye, “…from me. That girl doesn’t know anything about music. Do you find it easier to relax and not be jealous of me? Does it put you at ease? Well, isn’t that nice.”

No. No, no, no! It wasn’t like that with Maka! It wasn’t! Maybe at first it was. Maybe it was nice to have someone around that didn’t know who he was, who honestly wouldn’t know any better, but it wasn’t like that. He chose her... he chose her because she would never judge him for what he could or could not do. She wouldn’t laugh behind his back, wouldn’t endlessly critique his every move, every note he played. Wouldn’t sit there and make him feel like he was less of a person.

-----

“I didn’t,” a beat. One. Two. Three. Four. Four counts. One whole note. Two half notes. Four quarter notes. Eight eighth notes. Sixteen sixteenth notes. And Maka would never care. “I didn't see anything.”

Re: Glenn Rhee| The Walking Dead (Tv series)|Reserved

[personal profile] camebackforhat 2012-10-25 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality: As a survivor of the American zombie outbreak, there are at least two directions people can go: bad, or good. There are people who gleefully leave their humanity behind, and take the breakdown of society as a way to give into all of the grit, the racism, the anger, and compulsions that they always wanted but never could bring themselves to do.

With Glenn, he’s the latter; he holds onto basic human decency. In the first episode, we hear it in his voice; though it seems to be taunting, he is reaching out, giving someone who has no idea that there is still people left alive in Atlanta a piece of hope. This sets the foundation for Glenn throughout the series, being the character balanced between compassion and realism.

Glenn, when given the choice, will be the first person who places himself in a dangerous situation for the welfare of the group. Most of the time he plans out his escape in advance, to ensure he makes it out alive; sometimes he'll plunge in without thinking, like driving a car with the alarm going off to lure zombies (also known as Walkers) away from the group. That’s not to say he’s not selfish in his own right— Glenn isn’t suicidal and has no desire to die. He does, however, understand that he’s the one with the best chance of survival given his skills. Glenn is not smug or arrogant about it; for him in a world where most have died due to the Walkers, it’s a hard fact that he’s survived encountering them more than the average, which makes him the one with the experience necessary to survive one more encounter. More often than not, he would express dismay at what he has to do in order to save the group; he’ll pace and grab at his hat, worried about the consequences of getting involved and not getting involved. However, that anxiety would not stop Glenn from risking himself in order to save others. This could be due to the hope that someone else would do the same for him one day, or that someone may yet one day save them all... but he’s smart enough to admit it’s probably not going to happen.

Despite Glenn and the other survivors of the group being constantly placed under stress and dangerous situations, he has yet to lose his sense of humor and enjoyment. Tense situations or not, he'll make wisecracks, light hearted insults, and jokes when he feels it's appropriate. He takes joy in the little things in life, whether it is driving a fast car or over drinking when he hasn't seen alcohol in months. Though he is aware of the dangers he faces on a daily basis, he takes what he can get from life, even if it's joking about how a fall would kill him and Rick, instead of the Walkers. Glenn is, as he puts it, "a glass half full kind of guy" ( Episode Two "Guts").

Glenn is by no means perfect, even with his altruism or undefeatable attitude. He doesn’t always speak up when he should, or when he can make a difference in an argument, and he’s not the best at making quick decisions. Glenn is known to either have two handles when he's panicking or unsure about something: he thinks logically about what’s practical for the short term, or goes into a flight or freeze mode without thinking ahead. When he doesn't think he can do anything to make things better, he hovers in the background, tending to be passive and waiting for others to act. In a group of people, Glenn is a follower and doesn’t seem to have the bravery to take up the mantle of leader.

There can be many things that can be said for Glenn, but the most important information to remember is he is an average young man in a horrible global situation. Considering what he has gone through to survive, he still possesses emotion and empathy. He has yet to cross the line, unlike many other people in his world, in killing a human being.

Tony Stark | MCU [1/2]

Other Characters Played: N/A

Character Name: Tony Stark
Canon: Marvel Cinematic Universe
Canon Point: Right after [SPOILERS!] he drops out of the sky at the end of the Avengers movie.
Background/History: Background/History: Here.

Personality:

Tony Stark is a man with armor, even outside of his Iron Man suit. There's the Tony everyone sees--the one plastered on big screens and magazine covers, the one that's a household name--and the one he lets flounder underneath all of that. The key to understanding his character is pinpointing just where one ends and the other begins.

The first persona is the immediate one-- The narcissist, the playboy, the eccentric billionaire, the celebrity, the man with an ego as large as the newest technology he just developed in his basement. It isn't a fabrication; it's Tony, pure and simple, living life the only way he knows how--plowing through it, with no plan of action outside of the immediate one. Even after he goes through his great character transformation in the first film, he's still an impulsive man, acting first and leaving a mess for everyone else to clean up later. He's blunt, flippant, and self-absorbed, but only because he relies entirely on instinct and heart to push him through one end of a situation and stumbling out the other.

The first Iron Man film showcases the profound transformation that defines his character. He goes from an attention-starved, blithely ignorant celebrity brat to a man thrust into the dirty, bullet-ridden world his legacy has created, and something quietly changes inside him. On the surface, Tony seems to care about little outside of himself and his latest project--but after this change, we come to see just how deeply he actually loathes himself and his own mark on society, and the extent to which he's willing to fight to protect the things he does care about.

Tony goes through life with a sense of blatant, determined detachment; nothing ever seems to matter to him, whether it's a hearing in front of the Senate or the fact that he's about to be shot out of the sky with a missile. This makes it incredibly difficult for many people to take him seriously, and he's regarded with ire and disrespect by peers and opponents alike. Despite this, no one can deny that Tony is a genius. Stark Industries--as much as it functions financially and bureaucratically without him--would flounder if not for his sheer technological and scientific knowlege and aptitude. Despite this, Tony seems to accept his position reluctantly-- Because when he's not basking in the attention of a million strangers or in a single pretty girl for one night, Tony is a deeply personal and solitary creature, someone who is at his happiest in his workshop in the company of his AI and an engrossing project.

There is something inherently self-destructive about Tony. In the second film he suffers from a degenerative illness brought on by the arc reactor, a device he'd (ironically) designed to preserve and prolong his life. Instead of telling his loved ones--the few that he keeps near and dear; namely Pepper Potts and James Rhodes, the only people who have seen glimpses of his vulnerable interior--he isolates himself and throws himself into his work and his mission as Iron Man. There is the desire to protect his loved ones from worrying, but it's uglier than that-- Tony courts death, plays with it, dares it to come and get him. He fights in battles with little regard to his personal safety, drinks himself into oblivion, and dives headfirst into situations much larger than he is. It's a sense of responsibility that drives him, a desire to take the reins in his own life and his own company, but also a testament to just how little he actually values himself.

This deflated sense of self-worth (made even more apparent by the way he needs to stroke his ego at every available opportunity--Stark Expo and the Tower stand out as examples) shows in his interactions with other people. In the Avengers film, he blithely talks about Nick Fury's disability ('How does Fury see these?' 'Do I look at the patch or the eye?') and has no trouble discussing Bruce Banner's transformation into the Hulk, a sensitive subject everyone else avoids. The way Tony points out people's flaws isn't to deprecate them or make himself look good; instead, it shows how little stock he puts in the flaws in people, and how he sees them instead as complete people. Though he often spends a lot of time in his own self-occupied space, he does have a caring heart. His interactions with Pepper are a testament to that; out of everyone else, she is the person who sees every angle of Tony and who thus has the most faith in him. He fails greatly at expressing affection--he once buys her strawberries, forgetting that she's allergic to them--but his efforts are what makes his actions much more meaningful. He tells Coulson that he'll 'fly him to Portland' so he can see the cellist he likes, and expresses to Bruce a genuine empathy and belief in him while everyone else seems to fear and distrust him. Despite his air of apathy, Tony honestly cares about people--perhaps too much, enough to make him shut down the instinct entirely when it threatens his public visage.

Tony operates with his own agenda, and does so entirely alone. He is, arguably, the most difficult member of the Avengers when it comes to teamwork-- His brain operates at whip-speed, to the point where it's often difficult for others to catch up, and that stretches not only in his social interactions but to the battlefield as well. Cooperating, to him, means slowing himself down to a level other people can understand, and he finds that frustrating. Tony is do do do, and slowing down enough to explain his actions is a hinderance to him. Despite this, he does learn to function with others, making him part of something unstoppable instead of a force as self-destructive as it is deadly.

Tony Stark is a flawed, incomplete, complex mess of a man, but somehow emerges from that as an essential moving part of a grander whole-- And it's that, I think, that moves him closer to growing into himself, to becoming something that's less a force of nature and something with a definitive purpose, a mission, a reason to fight and live. This all culminates at the end of the Avengers film, when Tony sacrifices himself to save New York City from a missile. This act is his defining moment as a member of the Avengers--and, essentially, a superhero.

Tony Stark | MCU [2/2]

[personal profile] uninvincible 2012-10-27 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
Abilities/Powers:

Above all else, Tony is a mathematical, statistical, and scientific genius. His brain operates on a much higher level than most people--and that, in essence, is his superpower. He may not have super-strength or martial arts training, but his Iron Man suit is a reflection of just how his intelligence works around his lack of physical fighting capability. The suit is a streamlined, efficient weapon and stealth device--capable of flight, nearly bullet-proof, and tricked out with built-in ammunition and blasters on both palms.

Additionally, Tony's engineering expertise extends to his creation of several high-functioning A.I.--most particularly JARVIS, the sentient computer system that runs his house and powers his suit. He's also a computer genius, able to hack into high security programs and systems.

Sample Entry: Dear_mun entry.

Sample Entry Two:

The sky breaks.

A lot of things run through Tony's head-- Like the little picture of Pepper in the corner of his eye, flickering, one steady reminder of the Earth below him, of the life that would be taken if he'd let the thing he was holding in his arms fall to the ground. Like how he'd dream of space when alone in his bed as a child, and sneak up after dark to look through a telescope and imagine a world much different than the one he was on-- One where pressure wouldn't close around him, where his father's disapproving words were a distant echo, where he could let his mind and imagination run wild and free.

This isn't that space. This is something cold and empty, stretching far beyond what he can see or comprehend, and distantly he can see whatever fortress the--(Chi-something. Chipotle? Chitauri.)--are using to deploy their forces, and thinks this is it.

Everything is cold and swallowing around him, and he lets the nuke go. Pressure builds and crushes him, breaking through his armor and turning it to pieces, and the force of the explosion buils and forces him back. It's funny, how indestructible he'd felt when he'd first put on the suit compared to now. It's no longer a shell that protects him, that shields him from the spearing eye of the public and the concern of those closest to him. Instead it's a feeble visage slowly peeling away, breaking down as he drops out of the portal like a doll.

The image of Pepper disappears and he blacks out--and the last image he has of space isn't of the stretching, sprawling world of promise he'd imagined as a kid. It's oppressive and bleak. It's horrifying.

He tumbles down to the world below.

Rapunzel | Tangled | Not Reserved

[personal profile] shimmers 2012-10-27 09:45 am (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Rapunzel
Canon: Tangled
Canon Point: Shortly after she leaves the tower for the first time.
Background/History: Here
Personality:

Like most Disney princesses, Rapunzel is a kind-hearted individual with big dreams. Unlike most Disney princesses, she also has a whole slew of personal issues, the first and most intense of which is her relationship with her mother. Gothel has not only kept her locked up inside a tower her entire life, but also treated her like an object rather than a human being. To her mother, Rapunzel is a valuable tool that must be kept safe and in good shape. The familial love between them is entirely one sided on Rapunzel's part; Gothel simply acts like a caring, protective mother so that Rapunzel will not be tempted to defy her. This fabricated affection is the only "love" that Rapunzel has ever known, and thus her view of family, friendship, and any other kind of emotional bond is quite skewed.

Another way that Gothel emotionally manipulates Rapunzel is by grossly exaggerating the dangers of the outside world. Rapunzel is repeatedly told that if she ever leaves the tower, misery will befall in the form of "ruffians, thugs, poison ivy, quicksand" and a myriad of other creepies and crawlies. She implies that Rapunzel is far too weak and fragile to handle herself in the real world and that staying inside is the best option to achieve happiness in life. Constantly being talked down to by her mother has resulted in a major blow to Rapunzel's self esteem. She feels the need to prove herself somehow, but at the same time is anxious of what misfortunes await her if she tries.

That said, when worse comes to worst, Rapunzel is able to handle herself. This is demonstrated when Flynn Rider invades her room. Rather than freak out and hide, Rapunzel subdues him, ties him up and questions his intentions. A very brave act for someone who has never interacted with anyone besides her mother; for all she knew, Flynn could have been extremely dangerous or powerful, but she decides to defend herself as best she can regardless.

Despite her good intuition in perilous situations, Rapunzel is still rather awkward when it comes to socializing. Every part of interacting with peers is new and unfamiliar. Her emotions, whether positive or negative, run very high and switch frequently – sometimes to the point where it embarrasses and frustrates her traveling companion. Rapunzel's lack of education and experience with the outside world also impairs her ability to pick up on a lot of social cues, such as when someone is being sarcastic or using their body language to imply something.

Even though she was isolated and mistreated all her life, Rapunzel still manages to be an upbeat, optimistic girl for the most part. There are obviously lingering issues beneath the cheer and smiles, but she does her best to stay positive. Her outlet for dealing with the negative things in life comes in the form of many different hobbies – reading, baking, sewing, solving puzzles, etc – but the most prominent and passionate one is painting. With a limitless imagination and plenty of creativity, Rapunzel paints every inch of her walls. Many of these portraits are of things she one day hopes to experience, like the floating lanterns that appear on her birthday. These paintings do what her mother cannot; by portraying Rapunzel taking part in her most desired scenarios, the art silently reassures her that some day, her dreams might just come true.

Abilities/Powers:

When the Queen was pregnant with Rapunzel, she fell ill and required an elixir made from a special plant to continue living. This golden flower possessed magic that rejuvenated the sick and elderly. The Queen drinking the concoction not only healed her, but gave Rapunzel a one-of-a-kind gift. Her golden hair possesses the same properties as the flower, granting her the ability to heal wounds and possibly illnesses (this is not made clear in the film, but it seems safe to assume she could have some affect on the sick, if not heal them completely). These properties will be lost if her hair is cut. As a precaution, Gothel never cut Rapunzel's hair and told her to avoid doing the same, which resulted in her hair being about seventy feet long.

Personality:
Upon his introduction into the series, John Watson was a man who’s suffered due to his time spent in Afghanistan. He served as an Army doctor and Captain of the 5th Northumberland Fusiliers. His rank already says much about his character as a man who is capable of being in charge of others. He’s able to maintain command even during dangerous situations as he did during the Afghan war, but while serving he was shot in the shoulder and was discharged later due to his injury and a diagnosis of PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder). The disorder left him with a leg limp and an intermittent tremor in his left hand.

Returning to London, he began seeing a therapist and it became clear he was also suffering from depression. John says nothing ever happens to him when his therapist suggests he maintain a blog as a way of expressing himself. Now that he’s out of the Army, he feels as though his life has lost purpose and meaning, and he can’t seem to really adjust to civilian life. The truth of the matter, which both Sherlock and Mycroft Holmes seemed to realize quickly, is that John thrives on pressure and tense situations. Even with a bomb strapped to him, he wasn’t afraid of jumping on Moriarty’s back and daring Moriarty to take both of them out. Only a man who could exist under extreme circumstances would have the daring to do such a thing. This act also shows how brave John is and how willing he is to sacrifice himself to save his friend, Sherlock Holmes.

Perhaps it’s because John has seen and experienced so much that he’s able to deal with Sherlock Holmes’ bizarre ways when no one else can tolerate him. When Sherlock is examining John to the point of irritation, John acknowledges Sherlock’s brilliance rather than takes offense to it. He can recognize that Sherlock is special and different. Because of this, he shows a great deal of patience and tolerance for the man, even when Sherlock pushes the limits of politeness by calling John home from across town just to ask John if he can borrow John’s cellphone.

As Sherlock’s friend, John takes it upon himself to help Sherlock behave in socially acceptable ways whenever possible. One side of John is a hardened Army combatant, but the other side is very human. When someone dies during an investigation, John feels remorse for their death. Sometimes Sherlock’s lack of feeling makes John angry because he, unlike Sherlock, understands the feelings that bring ‘sentiment’ out of a person. Deep down, John does have a good and gentle heart that can get attached to others. He grows quickly attached to Sherlock, of course, and he is very caring toward Mrs. Hudson (their landlady) when she’s harmed. His desire to have a connection to others is also shown through the string of girlfriends John has had over the last year, though none of his relationships last more than two months due to the bizarre nature of his life with Sherlock Holmes.

Because of his attachment to people, he is very loyal toward them. When Mycroft offers John money to spy on Sherlock for him, John turns Mycroft down without a second thought. This is odd at first, likely even to John, since his therapist labeled him as a man with trust issues, but despite that, he placed his trust in the most unlikely of people. He is a man of strong moral compass, so accepting a bribe simply isn’t in his nature to begin with, and his morals would also prevent him from killing a man unless it were absolutely necessary. However, John is willing to pull the trigger if needed, like when he killed the serial killer to save Sherlock during their case, “A Study in Pink.”

In all, John Watson can be described as a fighter, a survivor and very importantly a loyal and trustworthy friend. After witnessing Sherlock’s death, John was shattered to the core. He realized that Sherlock had given him a great deal and cured him of the intense loneliness he had experienced since coming home from the war. He needed a friend as much as Sherlock probably did. Despite all that was said after Sherlock’s death, John refused to ever believe that Sherlock was a fraud because of his unwavering faith.

Character Name: Damian Wayne | Robin (the fifth.)
Canon: DC Comics
Canon Point: Pre-reboot, Batman and Robin Vol. 2 #16
Background/History:
Damian Wayne is the scion of two ever-warring worlds: One of murder, drugs and terrorism; the other of capes, cowls and justice. His mother is Talia Al Ghul, daughter to the international eco-terrorist Ra's Al Ghul, and his father is Bruce Wayne, none other than the Goddamn Batman himself. All it took was one night. A night Talia remembers fondly as one of passion, one shared under the tropic of cancer -- and one Bruce remembers as largely unconsensual. The ethics of an international crime empire are questionable to begin with, what more the courting practices of its princess? Fueled by the Ra's Al Ghul Empire's need for a worthy heir --her father having approved of Bruce as her spouse a long time ago -- and also her own love for him, Talia drugged Bruce and raped him. There are no mincing words here, that's what happened.

The result -- their child -- was kept secret from Bruce for ten whole years, and make no mistake; those ten years, from the very beginning to the very end, were far from what anyone would call a normal childhood. Perfection is something highly sought-out by his mother, so Damian had to be perfect in both mind and body. Not long into the pregnancy, Damian was plucked out of Talia's womb and placed into an artificial womb where all birth conditions were perfect -- far superior to those a normal human could provide. During his time in this womb, he was also genetically altered to leave no room for defect. The goal of it all was to produce the ultimate heir. Not only was Damian next in line to inherit the crime empire of Ra's Al Ghul, he was also being engineered to kill and replace Batman.

After the nature, comes the nurture. The moment he was ready to be released from the artificial womb -- or, 'birthed' -- his training begun. Day in day-out, he was being equipped with martial art skills by masters in the League of Assassins, a group of some of the strongest assassins in the world. Not only was he being trained in combat, but he was equipped with many other skills as well. While other seven-year olds were making friends, Damian was locking fists with martial artists who would kill him at the drop of a hat if ever ordered to. While other seven year-olds were discovering shooting games, Damian was shooting guns. Real guns. Along with bazookas, arrows, machine-guns, flamethrowers -- you name it, he's used it. While other seven year-olds were creating neopets accounts, Damian was learning how to hack into computer systems. Generally, there wasn't a lot of room for 'fun' -- or what most children would consider fun -- and his mother herself was rarely ever present to spend time with him. But hey! If it's any consolation, she did provide him with any material possession he ever set his eyes on (A private island that one Christmas, too).

As the purpose for his existence at that time was to become Batman, he had to learn about him. Talia had briefed him on Bruce's mannerisms, body language and posture, and this led to Damian connecting Batman to Bruce Wayne at first glance. (This is Kind Of A Big Deal in comics, mind you.) That was likely only the tip of the ice-burg, however. 'Batman' was elevated to a position of high prestige. He was the mortal enemy of Ra's Al Ghul, a 'worthy foe' of whom the Al Ghul house had tremendous respect for. Damian was told of his many skills, intelligence, strategic expertise and ability to consistently rise above those he crossed paths with. More than anything, this left Damian convicted to achieve that position -- to become the next 'Batman'.

His first meeting with Bruce wasn't exactly a smooth one. Talia basically abducted Bruce, made Damian's existence known to him, and dumped him at Bruce's side. Her reasoning for this was that Damian was getting too rambunctious for her to control, and that he needed discipline from 'a great man'. It is possible that she also planned to disrupt his work and keep him out of her hair for that time-being. It was a well-calculated move, too, because disrupt his work Damian did. One of the first things Damian did once at the Batcave was demand weapons and a laptop, trash the room given to him at Wayne Manor, and earn himself a batgrowl that would leave the toughest of men trembling to their knees. Bruce reprimanded him for his petty tantrums, labeling them dishonorable and unfitting of a martial artist. There was something else Bruce said that got Damian really fired up. Bruce told him that he would have 'many chances to prove himself', and Damian took this as a challenge.

Despite how much trouble he was giving his father, Damian still had an ingrained desire to prove himself. As such, he went out to fight crime that night -- an act he scoffed over just hours before. After hunting down and decapitating the ghost-themed villain Spook, Damian brought his head back to the batcave as one would a trophy. It is here he waits for his next target, then-acting Robin and his own adopted brother Tim Drake-Wayne. Damian hated Tim at first sight. It wasn't his personality, it wasn't his words, it wasn't even some 'bad feeling' or 'aura'; Damian hated Tim because he was 'Robin', a position he himself had his eyes on. Now that Damian was here, he felt it his own right to replace him; and in the League of Assassins, you kill your predecessors. Cold, murderous intent fermenting inside him, Damian put a grenade into the mouth of Spook's clammy head and waited for Tim to arrive. Something explodes, they tussle, and somehow the both of them end up fighting on top of a mechanical T-Rex found in the Batcave. Now, Tim's a pretty nice guy. He's good to his friends, and he always knows when to do the right thing. Tim actually saves the little snot from becoming chewing gum between that dinosaur's teeth! And how does Damian repay him? Shove him off when he's off-guard so he falls a good twenty-feet onto the cold, hard floor below, of course.

After nearly killing his older brother, Damian usurps the Robin title. He takes the liberty of stealing Jason Todd's -- a Robin who died on duty -- old costume from its memorial display, combining it with various other League of Assassins gear and forming his own convoluted version of a Robin costume. This makeshift Robin costume is what he continues to wear for most of his appearances until finally getting a legitimate costume of his own. His unwillingness to let go of it implies a strong desire to be the one working beside his father.

He appears in front of Batman, not the least bit sorry for any of his actions. Bruce, naturally, is furious, but cools down when Damian reveals that he knows what his mother is up to. According to Damian, Talia kidnapped the Prime Minsiter's wife and wants the Garrison at Gibraltar in exchange for her life. The both of them head out, taking a rocket that Bruce has in storage to catch up with Talia. It is here that Bruce lays out the boundaries for him. He makes Damian promise not to kill, phrasing his reasoning in a manner that convinces Damian to oblige, "Our way is stronger and more disciplined than the assassin's way. It takes skill." Basically, he spoke to Damian's prideful nature, challenging him to adopt a more disciplined method to deal with his adversaries. Damian, not wanting to appear weak, made no objection.

Once they catch up to Talia, they attack immediately. While locking fists with Talia's Man-Bat minions, Damian kept telling his mother to watch him, so eager to show her what he can do. Despite being on different sides of justice, the exchanges the two of them share are much like you would see between any other mother and child. Here, Talia reveals that knowing Damian's personality, she had expected Damian to bring Bruce to her. She had also expected Bruce to foil her plans, and defeat her minions with ease. The whole thing was orchestrated just so Bruce would know how easy it is for him to play into her hand. With that laid out, she offers Bruce a choice: Start a family with her, and she will join his war on crime, contributing her vast resources to his own. Reject her offer, and the war is between them. Naturally, Bruce does not oblige, and Tali does the craziest thing to date. Already knowing that the British military had fired a missle at them - a missle that would kill them all -- she simply stands there, waiting for it to come. At the sight of the missle, Damian scrambles to save his mother -- caring little for his own life. A lot of his internal organs are destroyed as a result, and she simply harvests new ones and replaces them.

Fast forward a few weeks, and Ra's Al Ghul - Damian's Grandfather - is partially ressurrected. He is alive, but trapped in a rotting, sensory-deprived corpse of a body. On top of that, his body is a ticking bomb; ready to cast him out at any minute. Because Damian shares Ra's DNA, he chooses Damian as his new host, assuring him that the transfer of consciousness will not be painful. Despite spending a considerable part of his life in a test-tube, Damian is not an 'it', as Ra's so kindly refers to him. Damian had a will of his own, and he was not prepared to simply give up his body and 'die'. He scoffed at mere suggestion, all too eager to defy his Grandfather. Ra's is, like his daughter, not a person who took 'No' lying down. He demanded absolute obedience, and to this Damian simply threatened to inform Batman of his return, confident in his father's ability to 'break you into little pieces.' Pursued -- on order to maim but take home alive -- by his Grandfather's ninjas, Damian sought his father's help, fleeing to the Batcave. Instead of Bruce, however, he meets his favourite person once more -- Tim Drake.

It is quite clear that at this point, Tim's opinion of Damian has sullied. Damian has no interest in fighting him this time, though. He has his priorities straight, and at that point he was honest-to-god scared to death of his Grandfather. He knew what his Grandfather was capable of, what kind of resources his Grandfather had at his disposal. Damian tries to relay information of his Grandfather's return to Tim, but Tim -- who is suspicious of his intentions -- refuses to believe him. They have a tussle as usual, and Damian knocks him out, then scours Wayne Manor for any sign of his father. He encounters Alfred, the Wayne family butler, and confides in him, expressing his fear of having his body stolen and insecurities regarding his father.

Not long after, ninjas ambush them at Wayne Manor. The both of them are taken to Ra's lair. It is here Damian and Tim have their first team-up, but Damian soon abandons him to fight the ninjas on his own. Despite working toward the same goal, it would seem Damian still has little regard for his older brother's life. Talia, Bruce and Nightwing all come together to rescue them, and in the many fights that subsequently occur, notable character-defining events include Damian defying his mother once more to find his father, Batman finally acknowledging Damian as his son, and Talia taking Damian home by force when he refused to leave his father's side.

Fast forward to after the events of Battle for the Cowl, which Damian did not have much of a significant part in, and Bruce is dead. Damian has started to live with the paternal side of his family, and Dick Grayson -- formally known as Nightwing -- finally takes on the cowl, becoming the next Batman. In a cruel irony at Tim's expense, he chooses Damian as his Robin, reasoning that the role of a Robin is given to someone in need of guidance. Dick saw Tim as an equal, but Damian was a different story. Though Damian was skilled in combat, his understanding of the moral ramifications of his actions is left to be desired. He would most likely kill again if left to operate on his own. Damian, of course, accepted this role with no objections, and continues to play one part of this most recently revamped version of Gotham's Dynamic Duo.

Character Name: Lisa Garland
Canon: Silent Hill
Canon Point: After telling Harry how to get to the lake.
Background/History: SH Wiki
Personality:
[[Note: Silent Hill is a very touchy subject of debate when it comes to certain characters, Lisa among them. Therefore it’s important to point out this is my interpretation.]]

Lisa Garland is a young woman who’s not always as she appears. She’s a hometown girl, born and raised in Silent Hill; taking up the family tradition and going into nursing. The kind of woman that you feel comfortable around, lending a smile and a hand to those who need it.

Behind that smile is a much more troubled girl.

Lisa was trapped in her own life, but what held her back were her own co-dependency issues. After starting work at Alchemilla Hospital, Lisa became addicted to the drug PTV to handle the stress, which was distributed by the hospital director Kaufman. The more that was pushed on her, the more dependent she became on the drug. The drug had the side effect of causing memory loss and manic behavior, making her all the more desperate to get her fix. Her need for the drug was why she continued to care for Alessa, even though treating the girl was having serious psychological effects on Lisa. Continuously changing puss drenched bandages, the combination of the drugs and the power seeping from Alessa causing her to see insects, feeling sick to the point of vomiting, Lisa had all the reasons she needed to want to get out of there. But Kaufman threatened to cut off her supply, trapping Lisa in her torment until she eventually died of an overdose.

Ask doctor to let me quit being in charge of that patient.

It's too weird.

Still alive, but with wounds that won't heal.

Told the doctor I quit. Won't work at that hospital anymore.

The room is filled with insects. Even with doors and windows shut they get in to spite me.

To the Hospital...

Feeling bad. Need to throw up. But nothing comes out. Vomiting only bile. Blood and pus flow from the bathroom faucet. I try to stop it, but it won't turn off.

Need drug.

Help me...

Yes, Lisa is dead. It’s unknown how long prior to the events of the first game, but it is clear Lisa had been suffering for a time. The Lisa that’s seen in the game isn’t the ‘real’ Lisa, but rather how Alessa remembered her. While Lisa hated treating the young girl, Alessa, whose body and mind were ravaged because of something her mother and those around her did to her, saw genuine affection from the nurse as one of the few people that still cared for her.

So, when her other half, Cheryl, returns to Silent Hill and the power of the God grew strong enough to seep into the reality of the town, only a select few were spared from this twisted reality. Dahlia Gillespie, Dr. Kaufmann, Cybil Bennett, and Harry Mason were under Alessa’s protection from the God’s powers. Lisa was brought back by this power, but instead of becoming a Puppet Nurse like all the others, the Lisa seen was Alessa’s projection of the nurse to act as a guide for Harry. This Lisa acts much like how Alessa saw her: a kind woman who was willing to help. Alessa saw that Lisa was sick but did not know why, and so this Lisa experienced mild stomach aches. The illusion isn’t perfect; much of her memory is scattered, as she has no idea how she came to be trapped inside the hospital. Alessa is never mentioned by name, and Lisa is instinctively afraid to leave the room she’s found in. If she leaves the room or question too much, Alessa’s illusion breaks down and reveals that Lisa was the same as the other monsters.

”No…somehow I feel I’m not supposed to leave this place.”

“But while I was down there, I got this weird feeling. Like I’ve been there before. Like something happened there but I can’t quite remember it. What was it? Harry! Help me… I’m so scared, I can’t take this.”

She’s frightened, much like how anyone else would be in that same situation. She’s trapped in a nightmare alone and her only connection to the world Harry is on his own search and cannot care for only Lisa. When Harry is gone, Lisa has no other purpose, and so is left feeling empty. She becomes more and more curious about what is going on exactly. The longer she is left as this, the more the original Lisa seeps through.

Abilities/Powers:
Any powers of her own? None. The illusion cast on her is of Alessa’s doing and should Lisa ever stray, she’ll be revealed as the undead monster that she truly is.

Lisa is a licensed nurse, so she does have a great deal of knowledge on first aid and basic care.

Sample Entry:
[The camera turns on to a woman in her early 20’s, blonde, green eyes, pale skin, and wearing a nurse’s uniform. She looks scared, must’ve woken up not too long ago in an empty room.]

This isn’t the hospital. But how, I was just… [Her hand goes to her head, piecing it together.] No I…I must’ve blacked out again. I don’t remember ever leaving. The second time now…

[Which explains the lack of panicking. Standing up, Lisa walks over to the window, her eyes turned to the bright sign.]

I’m sorry. I’m rambling, aren’t I? [Her attention returns to the camera.] My name is Lisa Garland, I’m a nurse from Alchemilla Hospital. This town, it’s called Haven, right? At least, that’s what it says. I’ve never heard of it before, certainly nowhere near Silent Hill. It feels like a ghost town…is there anyone even to listen to this? Maybe I’m just talking to myself.

It’s better than more quiet.

Sample Entry Two:
They were outside the door again. Lisa could hear the footsteps, their muffled groaning; it was the only ambiance there was in this room. They would pass by again, just like they always did. And yet, Lisa could feel her heart choke every time, anticipating the one chance they’ll try to get in.

And Lisa let loose a breath of relief; the sounds had dissipated once again. This was insane. She had done nothing wrong and yet here she was, hiding away, fearing for her life. It was torture. But what could she do? She was just a nurse, she couldn’t fight monsters. She’d be more likely to get herself killed that way.

Yet, Harry was able to do it.

“Harry…”

He was alone out there too, but unlike her, he had someone to save. His daughter was all alone out there, and Harry was risking his life to save her. A smile made its way to her lips at the thought. Harry was a good man, he and his daughter will be okay.

[personal profile] injecting 2012-10-28 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality: (There may be SPOILERS somewhere done here. Best tread carefully!)

Piers Nivans has all the qualities necessary of a good leader: professional, confidant, loyal, trustworthy, and even analytical. These are attributes that got him far in life, but when backed by his marksmanship and training, they got him even farther.

Since youth, Piers wanted to be like his father, and his father's father; he wanted to be a soldier, someone who protected others, and fought for a cause. His dreams were realized after he graduated from an elite military academy, and joined the Army's Special Forces. However, he quickly became disillusioned (likely due to the fact it wasn't what he thought it would be), but despite a lack of drive, Piers still worked hard and excelled at everything he did.

If it's worth doing, it's worth doing right.

It wasn't long after that that Chris Redfield recognized Piers' talents, and offered him a place in the B.S.A.A. (Bio-terrorism Security Assessment Alliance), knowing that the future of the B.S.A.A. belonged in hands like his. Within the B.S.S.A., Piers found his cause, and a team that became like a second family.

In the field, Piers is calm, and collected, quickly capable of making decisions while the situation changes without losing sight of the mission. His ability to keep focus under fire is an attribute that makes him stand out amongst his peers. Multiple times during campaign, it's Piers who returns focus to the mission, urging others to remain calm in dire or otherwise unsettling situations--this does not mean he has no compassion for others, or that the deaths of his comrades don't rattle him in some way, but simply that Piers understands that grief or vengeance has no place on the battlefield and is more likely to end in more death.

Piers may be calm and collected, but off field he can be a bit hot-tempered and defensive, especially when he feels that he, or his job, has been insulted. He isn't known for beating around the bush, and can be blunt when the situation calls for it. He tries to help others in the best possible way in regards to the current situation.

As a soldier, Piers has a great deal of respect for the chain of command, and for his commanding officer, even when disagreements arise. He has no problem voicing his opinions, no matter how blunt or harsh they may seem, but would never do something that would qualify as insubordination. Even when appalled by Chris' actions, he falls in line. He is the type of man who will follow his orders until they touch upon immoral or illegal actions.

The end of the game shows a different side to Piers Nivans, a side barely touched upon previously. It shows a young man who is willing to do whatever it takes to finish the job, and to not only save the world, but his partner. There isn't a moment of hesitation as he pushes Chris out of the way, and even severely injured, with his right arm destroyed by debris, he still finds a way to do what is needed. In the end, it's Piers that makes certain that Chris gets to the surface by staying behind.

Abilities/Powers: (SNIPER) Piers Nivans is known as one of the best snipers in the B.S.A.A., and that's not a title easily given, or easily earned. Sniping requires, not only precision, but knowledge and understanding of mathematics and physics. It requires extreme concentration, especially under enemy fire.

(FIREARMS) Not only is Piers excellent with a rifle, he's great with just about any firearm, and can adapt quickly to any given situation, changing between weapons to suit environment or range.

(PHYSICAL) A trained soldier, Piers isn't simply capable with firearms, but also close quarters combat. He has a varied amount of moves, most of which are described here, and uses the environment and an enemy's own weapon to take them down. It requires no thought, just action. However, Piers is only human, and can only perform so many physical attacks before he has to catch his breath.

Character Name: Erik Lehnsher, "Magneto"
Canon: X-Men: First Class
Canon Point: Immediately prior to Shaw's death.
Background/History: XMFC and Erik

Personality: Erik is driven by a rather fiery and passionate temperament. The events of his life have developed within him a mindset that is equal parts determination and fatalism. At the core he has the heart of a cynic, forged and fueled by his history with Sebastian Shaw. Shaw's experiments, the violent deaths of his family at his young age, and his experiences in the camps, molded Erik into what he, himself views as a monster. Destroying Shaw and the people who caused the pain and suffering that created him has been his driving purpose for years.

The mental processes that Erik has developed over the course of his life have left him an extremely private and distrustful individual. He is so focused on his end goals that he has no problems side-stepping the social norms of morality to manipulate and fight his way to his ends. His moral ground is shaky, built upon a set of beliefs he formed on his own, and influenced by a life of anger and revenge. If there is a way to get what he wants or needs, Erik will take it, with little to no concern for the people he has to use or kill to get through it.

His distrust of people has all but ruled out romantic attachments in his life. He has lived his life from one mission to the next, all with the bigger picture in mind. Hotel-hopping and cross-world travel has left little time to develop those attachments, even if he had a desire to do so. When he does form a relationship, it is always temporary, and more often than not a means to an end. Whether that is manipulation, or something else, ultimately the result is the same.

Living this life, as well as the life he left behind in the concentration camps, Erik has learned to live a different style of life. He is extremely self-reliant, determined and stead-fast. He was forced to learn how to live with little to nothing but what he could find and take, and as a result, continued to live that way even through his hunt for Shaw. He stands firmly and fiercely by his principles and his opinions.

Despite the rough and transient life Erik has lived, he is a very well-read man. He understands the power of words and the strength of a cause, and how to use both of them to get people to follow him, to believe in what he believes. He may not yet be a powerful voice in the world, but he has found the footing that will take him there.

The extraordinary thing about Erik's passion, is that when he finds something to pour it into, he does so with all of his being. Before he met Charles, and discovered there were other mutants like himself, his sole purpose was to destroy. Shaw, Nazis, and societies that catered to a view of suppression or fear that could one day spread into a repeat of history. After meeting Charles and the young mutants that began to work with them to fight Shaw, Erik discovered a new purpose. A purpose that would be to create something. An ideal society for mutants, separate from that of the rest of the human race. It became a great vision of his over the course of the movie, something only just beginning to be explored, but the foundations of which were strong.

However, Erik's darkened view of humanity and fatalistic, though fairly grounded, thinking had already begun to warp those ideals.

But that is a topic for Erik's future, and though he may eventually develop a steeled and warped version of his extraordinary vision, for now it remains only a slightly tainted goal.

While Erik can be a brutal and dangerous man, willing to kill freely, nearly anyone who gets in his way with little apparent concern, this is not the sole defining figurehead of his character. He often has a fairly serious disposition, with much of his humor having a straight-faced or sardonic quality to it, and might even appear quite the gloomy fatalist at time. But Erik can also be charming and startlingly kind.

He has developed a deep understanding of people, and can often read their motives and desires in their body language with a startling accuracy. Through many years living as an outsider, separated from human society by his own inability to allow himself to get close, he has had much time to watch the way people act and interact with one another. His willingness to manipulate others makes Erik a dangerous man. He will gladly act a certain way just to gain someone's trust. He's charismatic, with a charming smile and a quick wit, almost a magnetism to his personality that is reinforced with a modern (60's modern) man's gentlemanly approach to woman. He will gladly play the chivalrous role and open a door or take a dance with a woman. His sense of humor is often a bit dark and sardonic, tinged with his own worldly outlook.

When he takes the time to relax, he can be casual and easy going, though that’s usually tempered by a needling sense of work ethic and restlessness. Most upbeat evenings are followed by his characteristic brooding, because he rarely allows himself to be entirely happy without sinking back into his usual patterns of mulling over how he is going to destroy Shaw. Charles can sometimes draw him out of it, with enough coaxing, though he inevitably will seek solitude at some stage.

Erik recognizes the darkness within him. The monster he thinks he is. He is not blind to his own moral failings, but he will defend them. This awareness leads him to isolate himself from people who could grow to care about him. He does not see what Charles sees within him. He has seen to the depths of Erik’s mind, all his rage and pain, all the terrible things he has done, and yet somehow looks past that to find something worthy in the man himself.

To the few people that he allows to finally grow close to him, Erik is faithful and loyal. In the context of his storyline, he and Charles separate due to ideological clashes. While their parting is violent, over the years following it, Erik still remains on hand to defend the school that Charles establishes-- he may be embittered by this divide, but the obsession with separatism and his Brotherhood of mutants is put aside in order to provide his oldest and closest friend with assistance.

Even in the span of the movie it is clear that Erik has begun to develop an attachment to the other young mutants. He offers them advice and help in his own ways, different from Charles' instructions. A sort of rougher push forward with the expectation that they will jump the rest of the way on their own. It shows especially clear in his attempts to make Raven realize that she has to learn to like herself, to have confidence in her own abilities and looks, if she ever expects anyone else to.

Abilities/Powers:
Erik comes from a universe of the earth in which humans have begun to undergo genetic mutations that give them special abilities and powers.

In Erik's case this mainly comes in the flavors of manipulating metal and magnetic fields.

With his mutation, Erik can manipulate metal in its many forms. This aspect of his mutation is his most practiced area. He can bend, shape and mold metals to suit his wills and needs. Erik can also change the directions of fast moving metal objects, lift or force down different metals and otherwise alter their size, shape, motion, and more.

This is where the lines blur a bit, as Erik's abilities to move or halt the movement of metals could potentially just be magnetism, or more likely a combination of magnetic field manipulation and his ability to shape metals.

He has been seen using his abilities to do things as simple as move a coin between his fingers, to more complicated tasks, like restructuring a bed frame into restraints or manipulating wires to act as a 'third' hand behind his enemy's back. He has also done far more impressive acts, such as turning a satellite, or lifting a submarine out of the water. Even using metal in his clothing to 'levitate' his own body. It is an ability that has nearly limitless possibilities where metal is concerned, and that Erik is still learning the limits of, himself.

In addition to this, Erik is a charismatic and intelligent man, whose skills in manipulation and reading into the body language of those around him provides impressive advantages in every day life.

Sample Entry:
[Erik had spent much of the early part of the day studying the phone that had been in his possession when he woke up. He refused to attempt to use the device before he understood at least the basics of how it was supposed to function. And so it is waning into evening by the time he makes his audio address to the other people here, and hopefully, to the people who had ripped him away from what he was doing as well. He did not trust a single soul here. Any one of them could be responsible.]

I need answers, and this seems to be the fastest way toward getting them, so here is what we are going to do. I need to know if anyone here knows who brought us here, where we are, and what seems to be wanted of us. If you know the answers to any of those questions or if you have any other useful information, I'll ask you to contact me with it.

Anyone else who does not know, and is interested in finding out those answers, tell me what your skills are.

[Erik studies the phone for a long moment of silence, considering asking if Charles was here, but for now, anonymity was his friend. Only someone who recognized his voice should know it was him, if he understood the phones properly. Shaking his head, he ends the message and pockets the device again. If anyone comes forward, he will decide how to deal with them as it comes to that.

For now it is time to go take a look around this place and try to find some of those answers for himself.]

Sample Entry Two:
The rattling buzz of the alarm clock stirred Erik from a deeper sleep than he could ever remember having. It had been quite a long time since Erik had last managed to sleep so deep and so heavy without waking at the slightest creak of floorboards. Both the waking and the light were unexpected developments, and Erik fought through the groggy haze of unfamiliarity as he sat up in the bed. There were five other beds around him, not all of them empty, and were it not for the beds themselves, Erik would think he had merely woken from one nightmare to another. But none of the camps had ever been this nice.

He slipped out of the bed on silent feet, walking to the window as he woke himself with a mental catalog of every piece of metal in the room. It was during that mental catalog he felt the strange arrangement of metals in his pocket that had not been there before. Something about the metal in it was structured oddly, and he pulled the device from his pocket to give it a curious stare, only growing distracted from it by the billboard outside the window catching his eye. It was an unusual billboard, but the figures on it made Erik's teeth set at a rough edge to one another.

Wherever he was, whoever had brought him here, had either affected his memories, or stolen him in the middle of the battle. His first thought went to Charles. The second to Shaw. Sitting down on the edge of his bed, Erik studied the strange, small phone and tried to make sense of what was happening. In either case his revenge had been stolen from him. Snatched out of his fingertips only moments before it was going to happen. And it was going to happen. Revenge had been his at last. Just a few more seconds-

He growled, eyes narrowing at the phone. Whoever had done this was going to pay. He wanted answers, and he wanted them now. This device was the only new object on him, which meant it had to be connected somehow. He could feel the metal within it, and he traced along it, learning the build of the phone. Because it was a phone. That much he was certain. Just a strange, smaller version of one.

Character Name: Lenalee Li
Canon: D.Gray-man
Canon Point: Chapter 210; or around the time Lenalee and Noise Marie are covering for Kanda’s departure to to look for Allen
Background/History: http://dgrayman.wikia.com/wiki/Lenalee_Lee
Personality: At first glance, Lenalee seems to be a nice, pretty girl who’s loved by everyone—the scientists, her brother, and her friends. But the more one reads of D.Gray-man, the more it is apparent that she’s not just the manga’s princess, so to speak. Lenalee is probably one of the most understanding and caring people in the series. She is most certainly not weak, but neither does she claim to be stronger than everyone else. Lenalee simply holds to the things she cherishes, and she won’t easily let go of them.

Because she lost her parents at an early age and was then taken from her brother at the age of six, she’s very defensive when it comes to her friends. Probably her greatest fear is losing all her family and friends because she considers them to make up her world. Should any of them disappear, it feels as if she has lost a part of her world. All she wants is to be at a place she can call home, to be surrounded by people she loves, and to be loved back. It’s not about her looks or her skill as an Exorcist, but just herself. And that is what she fights for—it’s not for Central, or even for God—it’s for her world. She admits it’s a bit selfish of her, but this drive to protect the things she cherishes goes very far, even pushing herself to her limits.

To speak of limits…some people scorn her for tears, but Lenalee isn’t some bitter girl with a sob story. Yes, she certainly hates Central, and yes, she fears Leverrier, but she is capable of standing on her own and does not need the pity of anyone, especially her own. She’s lived through forced experiments, seen other children fall…and she’s even given into despair at one point. But once she realises what is precious to her, the tears she shed were usually not for herself. They are for others, other reasons. They’re shed out of disappointment and frustration when people don’t understand why she cares. They’re shed out of the strain of trying to be strong. They’re shed out of fear for her world breaking apart and losing her friends. And, they’re shed out of relief that comes from victory, even if it lasts only briefly. But why tears at all? Because she cares.

It’s not to say she’s all smiles or tears, though. There are moments when, out of frustration, she lashes out with a sharp tongue, usually as the voice of reason and sensibility (most of the time, to keep Kanda and Allen from going at each other’s throats). Sometimes, she even resorts to slapping and punching, or kicking, but…she saves them for the extreme situations. She’s not prone to violence, nor goes she go about threatening to hurt people. If anything, sometimes people prefer her exasperation to her tears of disappointment.

What happens if she does lose parts of her world, though, or thinks that she has? It weighs heavily upon her and her spirit. She becomes listless to a degree. When Lavi shouts at her to get over it and stand up, she can’t quite do it at that point. Maybe, that’s the side of her that could be called selfish—the want to have her world held together. Taken away, she becomes reckless to protect the rest of it—or, reckless and endangering herself without a second thought. When she was young, she had tried to escape from being an Exorcist until she had to be tied down to prevent further injury to herself. In more recent events, she takes a Level Three Akuma head-on, knowing he’s probably greater than she in power, but she doesn’t care—she does not want to lose anymore people. There had already been a time when she had felt utterly alone. To feel it again would be devastating. But selfish or not selfish—it’s the want to protect, to attain, and to deal with loss in the only way she knows how without feeling further hurt. For others, anyway. If she ends up dying in the process, but her friends could live on…so be it. All Exorcists know that what they do is dangerous, that they can die. But they don’t think about dying on a day-to-day basis. When it comes to dying, then, they make their choices. Lenalee, who cannot bear to see others die, is not different. She does not fear death for herself, save in that she knows people will grieve, and that she’d leave her brother alone.

Lenalee doesn’t think herself above people, though. She doesn’t assert or force her opinions on people, either. She might disapprove, but she cherishes her friendships too much to try to rip them apart. She’s not perfectly selfless—who is? But she tries her best to understand, even though certain people make it difficult. Such as Allen, who ever since they met, has been an anomaly. She doesn’t understand his urge to save everyone, but she’s respects his choices and wants to support him in whatever way she can. Really, no-one fully understands Allen (not even Allen himself), but Lenalee seems to understand Allen in a way others quite can’t because she’s accepted him for who he is. And that opinion goes for the others, too. The only people she can’t bring herself to accept are those from Central, who took her away from her brother and subjected her and others to cruelties, and God Himself, whom she resents because of the fact that she was chosen as an Innocence host. She’s come to accept being an Exorcist, but she makes it clear that first and foremost, her world comes first. And she’s not afraid of letting people know where her stance in this war is; and so Lenalee does not fight half-heartedly.

Abilities/Powers: Like all Exorcists, Lenalee uses Innocence to fight Akuma. Innocence comes in three forms; Equipment type, Parasitic type, and Crystal type. Her Innocence’s name is Dark Boots. Originally an Equipment type, evolved to become a Crystal type after the Innocence substance and her blood fused together. The Dark Boots are activated with the words “Innocence, activate” and she controls the speed by her thoughts. The deactivated form of her Innocence are a pair of red anklets.

Sample Entry:
Is this working? Hello? [ There’s an insistent tapping though the screen is dark. She finally gets it to work, though a finger blocks most of the view. ] Anyone hear me?

Something is strange about this place. It’s…it’s too quiet. Can someone tell me where I am? I have no idea how I even got here, actually.

…Ah. [ She finally realises this thing is…video-recording her, and she removes her thumb. ] Is this better? [ She attempts a smile and wave, though it’s hard to be cheerful like this. ]

I’m Lenalee and I'm from the Black Order...if that means anything to anyone. I just woke up. I could use some information on this place...Haven, if it's called that? It doesn't seem too much like a haven to me.

But thanks in advance for any help. [ One more smile, and she ends the transmission there. ]

Sample Entry Two:

Panicking isn’t her thing. She could really do without other people panicking, as well. Take a breath, look at your surroundings, and then think. She could do that with practised ease after so many years of fighting a war. Really, the only thing that made her panic was if people who were around her were suddenly gone.

She doesn’t remember falling asleep. But apparently she has, and then there was that annoying little clock alarm that jarred her awake…and so she was now in this desolate city. Or town. Whatever it was.

It wasn’t a dream, right? No, this was too real. Not even lucid dreaming felt like this. She’s had realistic dreams before, but something about this told her she wasn’t.

Lenalee eyes the…phone she has in her hands. It’s old and really something she’d actually toss away, but if it’s so close to her, she must need it for some reason. It also meant signs of life. No one in the room, presently, but the beds and their state suggest people had been in them, or would be.

She closes her eyes and exhales. Well, it could be worse. It was eerily quiet, but it was better than running for your life.

Previous Game History: Ange has definitely grown in the city of Asgard.

She's, after all, a very antisocial person by nature. After having been practically abused by her aunt after her family died, then bullied by her classmates in school and finally hunted by her other aunt (so it was family, of all people) for all the money she has that said aunt would instead inherit if Ange died. Even though it's always Ange who makes her circumstances worse (by assuming the worst and instead of looking for happiness making sure there's nothing around that could make her unhappy, which is practically impossible) her circumstances are pretty bad to begin with, and it can be said she's almost never been shown true kindness ever since she was six years old. This caused her to grow up the way she is now - from a happy and energetic kid into a bitter, cynical and deadpan young woman.

But Asgard slowly started to change all of that. In that place she no longer had to endure only hostility from other people, but people were actually open to her and in some cases even kind. This was.. a strange experience to Ange (to say the least), and half of the time she didn't even know how to truly deal with people being nice to her. For example when people came over to her room to cheer her up after Amakusa wasn't with her anymore, despite her saying she didn't need the help. Things like being pat on the head (for example by Shu and Senji) or being brought snacks to cheer her up by Ririchiyo or being offered help again and again by various guys - especially Soushi is a main culprit for this one - Ange didn't know how to deal with any of it. She's only ever learned how to respond to people being horrible to her, hence her usual deadpan attitude she developed back home as if to show she doesn't care about people being horrible to her, even though she does deep inside. But in Asgard she once again had to learn how to develop an attitude that allows her to deal with the circumstances, even if said circumstances are completely different from back home: people being nice instead of awfully mean.

And she was slowly starting to do so. There were already signs of her opening up a little more. Amakusa (back when he was still around) even warned her after the stabbings happened (a lot of people in the city got stabbed by illusions of the people they cared about most, in Ange's case that was Battler - after that she was brought to the hospital by Senji, which made the two of them grow closer in turn) that she shouldn't trust people so easily, and that was exactly when Ange realised that she was somehow slowly starting to trust certain people here, even though she hardly trusted even one person back home. She was getting a little more open and casual with people, even sharing backstories with Senji at one point. People being nice to her also meant being nice in return, and this was something she's slowly starting to learn as well; for example demonstrated by the fact that she stopped Senji from beating Shu up fully when he got mad at the boy during an outing with the three of them and even going as far as half-carrying Shu to the hospital so his wounds could be taken care of right after. She takes a little more effort in trying to understand people, even if it so far mostly only works with people who are just as horrible on a social level as her for the most part (like Shu and Senji, whose behaviour she can practically predict by now, among some others). At one point she was told "you're not alone anymore" - and that was exactly the point, Ange's small changes were coming forth from the fact she wasn't that same lonely girl anymore, she was slowly being forced out of her antisocial shell by the weird group of people she knows. People she could even call friends.

Ange is still by all means not social though, nor a completely nice person. She still makes horrible deadpan and sometimes morbid remarks and can still come across as uncaring since she doesn't really know how to react to things over with deadpan (especially since she wants to come across as someone strong rather than weak), but she's slowly trying and learning. Although it's very likely that all this development will be smashed out from under her when she arrives in Haven, since it means losing all her friends - the very foundation she had built her changes on. But the fact remains that she will still have those happy memories of the people she met in Asgard and all the various outings and shenanigans she had there as if she was a normal girl for just a little while.

(As a note: this is more development than real history, since life in Asgard was.. well, aside from the stabbings described above and one monster invasion (which Ange took as casually as ever, honestly) pretty normal. Even if shenanigans did happen in the city, they were fairly normal ones - like an event where people felt the uncontrollable urge to hug each other, big parties, stuff like that. The war wasn't that big of a deal yet from the point I'm taking her, aside from one dragon attack very early on during which she just stuck with Amakusa, her bodyguard. So all I can honestly say is that she grew closer to people in general due to people being nice to her and that she had a group of people she could almost call friends and a few she could definitely call friends, mostly Shu, Senji and Ririchiyo. Although there were quite some others she was friendly with too, in the end it was just this really weird cluster of friends who all knew each other for the most part.)

The point she will be arriving at from Asgard will be day 100 (her day there will have been an exact 100 days then, since she's been there from the start) - a few days before she learned the truth there about what happened with her brother during EP5 and EP6, so she will still be ignorant of this now.

Character Name: Kiyomasa Senji (Crow)

Canon: Deadman Wonderland

Canon Point: After the fall of Deadman Wonderland, chapter 41

Background/History: Deadman Wonderland Canon
Kiyomasa Senji canon

Previous Game History: While Senji was in Deadman Wonderland he had always been in a certain mindset, that he hated everyone else and that he should only fight for himself. He wanted to get stronger, he wanted to stop being like he used to be. He wanted to be the furthest from that. Senji is always changing, constantly doing something different that he hadn't done before. If Senji stands still in his progress then that right there means he's failed himself. He understood that even when he came to Asgard, and he's continued to try and change himself since coming here.

For a while Senji really hasn't let a lot of people in. He always shut everyone out so he wouldn't get close to them, so he wouldn't rely on them like he used to in the past. No, he never wanted to rely on anyone ever again. In turn he's been wanting to feel like that adult that everyone would go to instead. In Deadman Wonderland he had only experienced that once, in Asgard however.... he has put aside that personality he used to have, that sadistic nature that used to always be there. In Asgard it rarely pops up, it does sometimes when he talks about the old times in Deadman Wonderland, he can't help but smirk and guffaw about it.

When the events of the dragon attack happened, normally he wouldn't have even looked twice at the other people. But after talking with them, after knowing these people a bit more... it was almost hard to turn away. Senji had assisted them the best he could, but he denied that it was for their sake. Deep down it was to help them out, but he still refused to come right out and say that he cared at all. During the events of this he had met someone named Ai Ebihara.

She kept following him around afterwards, and after some claims that he was into men or even into horses since he wasn't your typical pervert that liked tits as much as the next guy- she said she would pretend to be his fake girlfriend. He didn't want to do it in the first place, he thought it was stupid. Like hell he would put a little faith in someone... he hadn't done that for years. He hadn't relied on someone like this in a long time, it felt so foreign to him now. In the end he agreed, and even though it only lasted a while he still put at least a little trust into her.

Senji really isn't the type of person to care about someone unless they've gained respect with him. However, the people he's met at Asgard and the things he's done with them, he's soon learned to let more of these people in. One example being Ange Ushiromiya. He talked with her here and there, but sooner or later he soon found himself becoming close with the girl. There are others that have gained his respect and he feels close, but he doesn't dare say they're friends outloud just yet. That just means that they'll probably die, he always loses people he considers to be friends or even family. In any case, one day Senji had stumbled upon Ange after she had been stabbed, and instead of walking past like he normally would have-... he actually stopped to assist her. He claimed he was just walking by, that he was just doing this so she wouldn't shut up, but deep down somewhere he felt concerned for his friend, he didn't want her to kick the bucket just yet. So working up the courage and pushing that prude nature of his aside he picked her up and carried her to the hospital.

A little while later he did something that he had not done even in canon to the friends that he called Deadmen. No, this was something that takes a huge leap, it was something that he refused to tell anyone. He had heard about Ange's past and just as he was about to leave she had asked him about his past. Senji got ticked from such a question, and he was even more angry that he was even considering telling her. In the end though.... he had explained to her what happened to him before he got tossed in jail. He told her about his friends, about how they died because he was too much of a little punk. He was tossed in jail under false charges and once he was in that prison he got a tattoo above his eye with their initials so he could never forget them. That took a lot of courage for him to tell her, and in the end he did. That was like his own victory.

Ever since then he had talked with more people, opened up to others easier- and hell, he's even been agreeing to training people. The only person he had done that before with was Ganta, but he's training Euri and had some sparring sessions with others that asked him for it. He hasn't actually killed anyone here yet, and that itself is a huge accomplishment.

Personality: At first, Senji seems like your typical run of the mill crazy criminal. He enjoys violence, even going so far as to attack anyone who gets in the way of his fights. He constantly talks about how much he likes battling, and how fun and entertaining it is to have a proper battle with somebody of equal standing.

He truly does enjoy all of those things, but Senji's personality goes a lot deeper. He himself has an honourable side- which he expects everyone else to respect till the very end. He will not fight someone if they are down, he likes to have them stand up and take hits from him the proper way, kicking someone when they are unable to battle is just not his style. A fair fight means the most to him, and gives him the greatest satisfaction when he is able to beat the person. If the person beats him however, an even deeper appreciation of that person will grow- meaning that the certain someone who beat him will be unable to lose until he can fight and defeat them once more. He would get furious if he finds out someone that beat him was off battling elsewhere, Senji cherishes his fights.

The biggest weakness he probably has, would be the fact that he is a hardcore prude. He would get worked up just talking to women, but when they wear something that's revealing or clinging tightly to their bodies- that's when things get real for him. The very thought of it makes him blush, however when he sees other women in such attire he would either get a nosebleed, pass out, or a combination of the two. In short, Senji would rather all women wear something that covered every inch of their bodies so he would not have to look at their curves. At one point in time he had taken off his own jacket and shoved it at another female, simply because her clothes were too tightly clinging to her body. He mentioned that it was dangerous, obviously meaning that other men would ogle her, or he would be forced to look at her more than he would like to. He watches out for other girls this way, but it also makes it difficult to have female companions since he’s worried about such a thing all the time.

There are a few things that get Senji riled up or shocked. One of them would be when his past is brought up, or mocked. He does not like it when someone talks about what has happened to him so casually, doing so would earn the person a good boot to the face. This would be one of the few times Senji would hold a grudge against someone. The only other time he would not forgive someone- is if they turned into some kind of traitor. Senji is a very trusting individual once he likes the person, he would go out of his way to help them out in any situation. There would have to be some begging involved, but eventually Senji would cave and help the person out the best to his ability. Since he is like this, if someone betrays his trust, he will immediately label them a traitor, thus making his attitude towards them bitter and unpleasant. Such a thing would be evident when it seemed like Ganta had betrayed all the other Deadmen by accidentally attacking them, after he had said that the forgeries needed to be helped. Senji was upset over anyone who would side with the forgeries, since they gave him a mask that mocked his past, so he yelled at Ganta and told him to go away. Afterwards however, he and the other Deadmen went and assisted Ganta, eventually forgiving him.

He truly believes that those who constantly rely on others are children and that they need to learn to grow up and be their own individual. Senji used to be that way when he was a cop, he talked tough since he could use his Branch of Sin, and back then he also had his four best friends to hide behind. Eventually, he came to learn that always relying on them was weak, and that he had to stand up on his own. However, being relied on is something that gives Senji strength to press on and accomplish anything he puts his mind to. Senji acts like a big tough guy, but he does this to protect his soft side, which is the most vulnerable thing about him. He trusts people easily, and can also easily get hurt due to it, but he wouldn’t openly show himself being hurt- no, he would rather bottle up such emotions and keep it all inside.

Senji is a sentimental individual, and this is clear when he brings out a coin at random intervals. Sometimes he’ll take out this coin and flip it, calling heads or tails. It’s a trick coin however, and both sides are tails. This kind of thing tricked Senji back when he was a cop, and his chief did it to him with this item often. After his chief was murdered and slowly died before him, he had taken that coin and have been holding on to it for years.

He also likes to say his own little catchphrase to himself or to other people, but it doesn’t really mean anything. The saying he likes is ‘zuppashi’ and no one really knows what he’s saying, but it can be deciphered as something like a gun, or cutting something up- in the kind of context he uses it in. Dead center, on target, ssslice, bang- there are several different ways of translating ‘zuppashi,’ and another time he says it- would be when he’s overly angry. He mentioned that his “zuppashi gauge maxed out” one time when he went to save Ganta from Hagire. Let it be known that this is merely a made up word, and Senji loves to use it. Even though no one really know what he’s talking about half the time.

Contrary to popular belief, Senji's first name is indeed Kiyomasa. This can be confusing since he seems to have two first names, along with the fact that no one calls him Kiyomasa in canon, but with his name written as 千地 清正 (Senji Kiyomasa) it becomes clear.

Abilities/Powers:
Branch of Sin: In the Deadman Wonderland world there is something called a Branch of Sin. Essentially, after the Red Hole incident (an earthquake that had submerged most of Tokyo) there was an outbreak of strange occurrences. The biggest one would be that suddenly certain people had the ability to control their blood if they had sustained a wound. These people were dubbed 'Deadmen' and soon they had been found out by certain people and dragged off to prison whether they were guilty or not. These Deadmen each have original powers, their Branch of Sin is always something different that's suited to that individual.

-Crow Claw: Senji's Branch of Sin is known as Crow Claw, he uses the rings on his thumbs which contain razors in them and he slashes his forearms. From those wounds he's able to turn his blood into giant curved blades. They're very sturdy and razor sharp, he's never hesitated to cut somebody up. He's perfected this ability and he's learned how to extend the blades as well. By making little holes inside of the blade he's able to make it bigger and bigger, eventually reaching outstanding lengths. He has made massive blades before, much bigger than him, but this requires a lot of blood and is very dangerous to do.

-Invisible Black: A variation of his Branch of Sin. Senji is able to focus all of his power into his hand, the wound sustained there would then unleash an epic attack. He's able to bring out a blade that is faster than the speed of sound, it's extremely powerful and he's only able to do this once in a while since it takes so much concentration. It cuts up any enemies in his path, they would be sliced up before the person could even blink.

Sample Entry: Asgard post

Sample Entry Two: Darkness was all around him, blanketing him in a familiar warmth. He stood there, in what would be considered his bird cage, awaiting the start of the next Carnival Corpse. If he was some scrawny first timer like the person standing in the other corner, he would have been shaking as well. Not from the fear, but from the excitement. It had been all too long since he had been standing in this spot, it was almost like nostalgia. His grin never wavered, like a permanent smirk had been painted on his face. This was it- it was a time for one of his fights to begin. No one could get in his way now.

When the lights turned on and each of their respected cages opened, he walked out into the bright lights of the arena. He wanted to laugh at the disappointing looking challenge that was presented before him. He wanted something good to work with, something he could slice up after smacking each other around a bit. This fight looked like it would be over in a few seconds.

Without a moment’s hesitation, Senji had raised his arms up, activated his razor rings on his thumbs and slashed through the skin on his forearms. The blood that came forth swirled and twisted until it formed what could only be described as a blade. Two blades, to be precise. He moved into a crouching position, his fighting stance ready, his adrenaline already pumping through his abnormal blood.

“I'm gonna cut you up dead center! Ya better be ready!”

Character Name: Haruhi Suzumiya
Canon: The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
Canon Point: post-”Surprise” in canon; after her drop in August in Mayfield.
Background/History:
♢ On Haruhi as a character.
♢ On the series in general.
♢ On the two-part volume, "The Surprise of Haruhi Suzumiya". PART ONE & PART TWO.
Previous Game History:

Haruhi makes her arrival in Mayfield in September, living in a seemingly ordinary ordinary house in 50's America. Of course, naturally, Haruhi is displeased about this situation, but is all the same excited about it, due to the fact that it was mysterious. Soon after she arrives, she figures out several things: one, that there are supernatural creatures here (aliens, time travelers, and the like), two, that Kyon was here and living right next door, and three, that she's actually been in Mayfield several time before, even though she herself doesn't remember a thing.

In the first few weeks in being in the town, Haruhi finds out that not everything is as it seems. Which is one of the reasons why she reassembles the SOS Brigade (with Kyon and Nagato, naturally, as members) with a new meaning: to find a way out - though she puts up a front, saying that the SOS Brigade is the same as it always was: a brigade looking for anything and everything supernatural.

Soon after, she celebrates her first birthday in the town, announcing it over the phones as she also starts inviting people to join the brigade. To join her club to fight against Mayfield in their own ways.

And then she finally experiences her first event. Which, naturally, had to involve aliens. Even though Haruhi does get excited about the early events that occur to her while staying in Mayfield, she does know that Mayfield isn't normal at all.

She then experiences another event soon enough, which makes her hallucinate and go crazy. Basically, her emotions are messed with. She finally realizes that Mayfield can change people emotionally, mentally, and even physically. Her memories can be altered, and that her feelings can be changed.

But the biggest thing that happens regarding Mayfield is that she realizes her feelings for Kyon. There are several reasons why this happen, the biggest one happening in December, where she sees Kyon dating someone else and she feels her heart cringe. She's jealous, and it's because Mayfield ended up pairing them up together.

Several months later, after the events, she tries to hide her feelings towards Kyon, even though she knows that she was wrong all along about love being a mental illness. But she doesn't want anyone to know. Especially not Kyon. Of course, she does have a little cat fight regarding who gets to be with Kyon, but the other party gives up, knowing that Haruhi was the one who he was looking for to begin with. As a girlfriend.

In February of the following year, she actually confesses to Kyon. Half of the reason being because of the magical flowers that made people lovey-dovey, and the other half because she didn't want to keep dodging the question whenever it was asked of them.

Between now and August, Haruhi and Kyon start dating secretly, learning more about Mayfield and still maintaining the brigade. Of course, some people do end up realizing that yes, they're dating, but it's not like it was a huge secret to begin with.

Haruhi and Kyon then go home for a small canon update (for Kyon, he gets canon updated to the end of December, as for Haruhi she gets canon updated to April) and are moved into the same house as husband and wife. Which shocks and is completely embarrassing for Haruhi, but Mayfield sure is a troll.

Nothing big happens after this point except for the carnival arriving in town, in which Haruhi investigates the strangeness. There's something about Mayfield that's off, and things have definitely changed. Especially since there are two Mayfields (Mayfield A, which is the normal Mayfield, and Mayfield B, which is the Carnival Mayfield) and that some of the NPCs are getting unruly.

But once she gets out of Mayfield B and back into the original Mayfield, she soon becomes a drone, and the point I am taking her from is before her droning.

Mami has spent about a year at Queen of Hearts. I'm taking her from before this development leveled off (the point where I dropped the game) - specifically, at about seven months in-game. By this point, she's grown used to various jamjar mechanics: people arriving and departing without warning or reason, familiar faces having experienced events that Mami herself has yet to (and also the reverse - instances where Mami is the one further ahead), strange incidents happening, etc. She's also a lot more aware of the ugly truths of her world, and has managed to shed a good chunk of her old grudges. Mami as she is now is someone committed to overcoming her fears and flaws, if only little by little.

The events and character growth that lead up to this moment are as follows:

Character Name: Baby Doll
Canon: Sucker Punch
Canon Point: After Baby lets Sweat Pea go, knowing she's sacrificing herself.
Background/History: wikia link
Personality:
Baby Doll starts off a lot more meek than we see her at the end of the film. While she's always been the one to do what it takes, like climbing out of the window and attempting to shoot her stepfather, she doesn't initially fight back. It takes her trying to escape the reality she made to escape her actual reality.

Then a drive emerges. Everything becomes about gaining the items and protecting the girls. In the third reality, she becomes like the platoon leader. While in the brothel, she protects Rocket from the Cook. Even when it seems the mission is over and Blue confronts them the first time (when he notices the changes with the map), Baby insists they can do this. It becomes her whole world, and she truly believes in them.

She does have an aversion to men, from her stepfather, Blue, and the High Roller. However her "angel" is a man and helps her gain her confidence. Not all men are bad. The girls become her second family. Even Sweet Pea who seems to resist her at first. Baby comes in and makes an escape possible. Which all of them want.

The girls are Baby's ties. They help her to keep going. She becomes their leader, uniting the other four of them for a goal. She does want to get all of them out, and needs them as much as they need her. She helped Rocket, putting a knife to her attacker's throat, and she sacrificed herself to get Sweet Pea out. They end up unifying to get the map, lighter, knife, and key. She takes them into the third reality, and they're actions have affects as well since three girls managed to get an item while Baby distracted everyone.

She is afraid of the High Roller/ doctor, but it's through the realization that she was never the focal point and actually the fifth piece, she's strong enough to do what was needed. She makes the ultimate sacrifice for a friend. That there is a fine line between exploitation and empowerment. That through her struggles of being oppressed, she found herself, she found the strength to make the decision to lay herself down.

Baby is very much a paradox upon sight. She looks like this pale, tiny thing and the beginning of the film shows all these bad things happening to her. However, her first line of the movie is "let her go, pig", as she holds a knife to throat of the cook as he tries to assault Rocket. She's able to be sexy and strong. She can kick ass, she can be what is needed and still stand for herself. The different worlds aren't just an escape, but a confidence boost.

The worlds were also set up like the Wizard of Oz, said director Snyder. Where things mirrored. After the movie, a character comments that Baby was actually a handful. That a patient had escaped and that she stabbed an orderly, so all of these things that she imagined did take a hold in the real world. So because of the person she became, she was able to not only change the worlds in which she created, but the world in which she actually existed in. No matter what her fate was.

She becomes no longer afraid of anything, willing to take down anything or do anything she sets her mind to. She is no longer oppressed.

Abilities/Powers:
Baby has the ability to slip into other realities that she creates. While these most often actually function as fantasies, what she does in one world, has affects on what is actually happening.

She does move into them, but from the two animimated shorts made, they are complete realities. With prior existences.

Cain Knightlord | Trinity Blood | Reserved

Name: Ena

Other Characters Played: Alphonse Elric
Preferred Apartment: With Charles Fei-Ong when he is applied for, please.

Character Name: Cain Knightlord
Canon: Trinity Blood
Canon Point: During his time on the Mars colony.

Background/History: Trinity Blood - While this is a fair explanation of the canon, because of the canon point of Cain (Red Mars era), it's harder to find detailed information on. This is because the anime never dealt with the Red Mars era, and that's the most widely documented medium of the series, whereas Cain is taken from the light novels which the manga is based on. The wikipedia does touch on the Red Mars era, but the article has not been fleshed out well, so I've expanded on the background myself.

Created as one of four advanced clones for the UNASF (United Nations AeroSpace Federation), Cain was designed to be the pinnacle of what science could achieve. 'Born' in 2088 along with his twin, Abel - who was actually created to be used as spare parts should Cain ever need them - they embarked on a hard life. The scientists pushed their precious clones to work hard, they had to become great leaders and stronger than all the others if they were to survive the harsh conditions of colonising Mars. They were treated as an inferior species, not quite human, and as such they were often just utilised as tools of the country's government they 'belonged' to. Cain was created in Germany (what would become known as Germanicus in the future); Abel in England (which would become Albion); Lilith in India and Seth in Canada.

At some point during their time on the colony there was an attempt on Abel's life, which left him stranded on the surface of Mars; Lilith saved him and together they discovered an alien technology which helped create the Ark - now in-operational and referred to as the "vampire moon" in canon. Two strains of nanoscopic machines were also discovered that day; a strain called Bacillus and one called Crusnik. They didn't truly understand Crusnik, it proved resistant to tests and difficult to work with, but the bacillus easily took to the colonists injected with it and gave them a heightened strength, longer life and a host of other skills - these later became known as the Methuselah, or vampires.

The canon from there on out is where the wikipedia article picks up the story properly.

Previous Game History: Cain was at Mayfield for just over a year, and went through some pretty terrible things. The act of being hurt or tortured wasn't a new one, as the clones in their canon setting endured a lot of 'testing' to make sure they were their best. However; in canon it was always made sure that the clones, being valuable assets, were kept alive. Whereas in Mayfield, there was no such guarantee. It brought with it a loss of control of the situation, which has forced Cain into realising that he can't always manipulate a situation to his desires.

Another big change was his brother, Abel. The Abel he knows from his home is a sullen and angry boy who only trusts him. The Abel he met in Mayfield is much older, kinder and guilt-ridden. He still occasionally finds it hard to adjust to the man that Abel has become, and is jealous of the friends his brother has. That's not to say he doesn't still love his 'twin', and there are good points about his older self (such as being able to be more open and affectionate). His time in Mayfield has not really tempered his obsessive views regarding his brother, and his perspective on relationships is still unhealthy and skewed.

However, saying that, Mayfield has given him the opportunity to find one or two other people that he is beginning to consider important. The main one of these was Beast Boy, from Teen Titans. The two bonded over being lab creations and Cain found himself with his first proper friend. He has grown a strange sort of attachment to Charles Fei-Ong as well; someone who is not quite friend, but he would still be sorry to see them become harmed in any way. The most complex two relationships Cain gained from his time in Mayfield, were with Esther Blanchett and Ciel. Both of whom he grew to quite like, and both of whom are too close to Abel for his comfort. He hates them both with a petty jealousy and yet relies on them both for friendship and protection.

Overall, Mayfield hasn't changed much about Cain's core personality. It's made him warier of his surroundings, and perhaps a little more open to friendship, but he's still the over-achieving Stepford smiler from canon.

Personality: As the eldest of the 'proper' clones - Lilith being a prototype for the remaining three - he had a lot resting on his shoulders. He needed to be fast, strong, intelligent, decisive, and a strong leader; what the scientists got was a little different than they expected. He was all these things, but he displayed a desire for pacifism and gentleness which stymied a lot of his instructors. Where his brother was filled with hate for being used as a lab rat, Cain appeared to want nothing more than to make friends with the terrans (humans) and was generally well-liked within the UNASF.

He could easily have become embittered during their childhood, as all of the clones were treated as laboratory rats and only existed for the purpose of serving humankind in the colonisation of Mars. However, he seemed to go the opposite route of his twin when faced with this adversity; he internalised the pain and degradation, and instead overcompensated in the opposite direction. He is usually all smiles and gentleness, calm and obedient, which is an odd blend of true feelings and a smoke screen. He does want affection and love, which is one of the reasons he gives it out too freely to others, but the smiles are often a mask to hide the bitterness of being treated as an inferior species.

His sense of humour is dorky and over-exaggerated, and the clues that this is the case in canon can be taken from where 01 bursts in dramatic tears after getting 'lost' following a map (as even though 01 is technically no longer Cain, his behaviour mimics how the boy was in the Red Mars era to maintain a believable façade). He might be seen to play silly tricks such as drawing on someone's face while they're sleeping, but none of his jokes would ever pass into anything malicious. Again, as with the front of smiles, these silly jokes are part of the smoke screen that often hide his true feelings underneath.

More amenable than his younger counterpart, he genuinely does have an optimistic streak. He wants to believe that one day his family will be treated as equals to the "terrans"; and that he is lucky to exist, even treated as he is, because it gives him the chance to be with his family. He is highly intelligent and enjoys learning, over-achieving in every task given to him to try and gain the approval of those around him. Despite all the smiles and silliness, he is perfectly capable of being serious if the situation demands it, stepping in to help out wherever he can.

The driving force behind his actions is, unquestionably, Abel. All of his family are highly important to him, but his little brother (or clone of himself) is someone who he has always been closest to. They are two halves of a whole, and seem to represent flip sides of the same coin, making them closer than natural brothers could be. However, this doesn't mean he is incapable of forming meaningful relationships outside of his family; to be accepted and loved by everyone has always been his dream, along with a peaceful life on Earth.

Abilities/Powers: Cain was designed to be stronger and more durable than the average human, though he has no actual special abilities or powers.

Sample Entry: Taken from [community profile] mayfield_rpg

[Cain is outside his house, raking the red and golden leaves that have fallen into a large pile.]

Falling leaves are so strange, it's sad in a way because it's like the trees are dying. But they're not really, they're just going into hibernation for the winter. And the leaves fill other purposes too; they make a mulch that feeds the ground when there's not much else there, they give materials for animals to make warm places to stay in the cold, and...

[There's a pause, as a grin breaks out over his face and he drops the rake on the lawn.]

...they're perfect for jumping in! YAHOOOOO!

[And suddenly there's scattered leaves all over the lawn again, as Cain rolls over laughing.]

Character Name: Dahlia Hawthorne
Canon: Ace Attorney
Canon Point: Post 3-5
Background/History: Dahlia’s Wiki.
Personality: Dahlia presents herself as a salve to the rough and tumble that is real life, as though she’s a delicate flower that could be stomped out by the wrong harsh word in her direction. But, the key word is ‘presents.’ If there’s anything about Dahlia, it’s that she’s a bitter woman driven by ideas of revenge, and uses her act to turn eyes away from her true nature. It’s much easier to make others kill each other when you’re a weak simpleton, after all.

Beset by misfortune, and not actually wanted by either of her parents for her uselessness, Dahlia grew up with a mindset of thinking only of herself. After all, if her parents only viewed her and her sister as completely disposable, why should she not think the same of them? She cultivated most of her relationships based on how useful they’d be to her, and then destroyed them the moment they outlived their usefulness.

Dahlia is acutely aware of her own shortcomings—having no spiritual powers, in a family that prides itself on its spiritual powers made her useless to her mother. Being another woman’s child ruined her father’s idea of a perfect family, and so he rid himself of her twin sister. She realized soon after that her only point of strength was her innocent appearance, which she augmented with cunning and sweet lies.

She’s dangerous, only motivated by her own self-interest, and eventually in the name of revenge on the Fey family. She tried to distance herself from her family by dyeing her hair red, but she could never fully escape the fact that she was a failure by pretty much every standard, as Mia mocks her spirit before she passes away forever.
Abilities/Powers: Preternatural innocence—she seems completely infallible, as long as you don’t question her stories. However, she is also ruthless, and feels no guilt for killing out of petty self-interest.
Sample Entry: Oh my… I-I’m so sorry, but… [light sniffling; the image clicks on, and a girl with red hair and traditional looking temple clothes appears. She looks completely upset, confused, and lost] Oh, I’m sure it’s hopeless…! But if there is anyone out there…

My—my name is Melissa Foster. I’m all alone here and… it’s terrible, I’m so frightened. I don’t know where I am, or what to do… If anyone, anyone at all can hear me, please… please say something.

[she sniffles again, wiping fitfully at her tearful eyes]

Oh… it really is hopeless… How could anyone be so, so cruel…? My family… surely they are so worried now.

[A heavy sigh]

If only I had even one word of comfort… I would be so grateful.
Sample Entry Two: Dahlia turned off the phone with a click, and gave one last glance around to make sure she was alone, before groaning in disgust and wiping the last of the faked tears from her face. It was so hard to be that poor, helpless girl when she was so furious. If there was one comfort, it was that she was breathing and living again, which meant her quest for revenge against Mia Fey wasn’t quite over yet. But she couldn’t just act rashly. Acting rashly had gotten her so many failures.

She would plan Maya’s death from this new world. She didn’t understand anything about where she was, nor did she understand how she could possibly be alive… But she did understand one thing: Maya must die. And hell obviously couldn’t prevent that simple fact. It was for that reason she’d be the helpless Melissa Foster one last time.

We are all safe in Haven? Don’t make her laugh.

MADOKA MAGICA.
A creature named Kyuubey approaches a young girl and tells her that it can grant any wish, if she agrees to make a contract and become a "magical girl." She can wish for anything, whether it be for her crush to fall in love with her or to become a billionaire. But if she agrees to become a magical girl, in return, she must dedicate her life to fighting Witches, monster-like embodiments of despair that prey on human weakness. Routinely, they lead people to commit suicide; the powerful ones cause outright destruction, visible only as natural disasters to the normal eye.

Not only does she get a miracle, but that young girl gets to be a hero and don a costume and wield a magical weapon. A real "magical girl,"  just like the ones in manga and anime.

But it's all a lie.

The word magical girl is trick, as are the costumes they wear and the monsters they fight. The lives these young girls lead are not parables for friendship, nor idealized vacuums where everything will be all right and evil is defeated with a magic wand. These are desperate girls, manipulated into selling their souls for desperate wishes; given the chance to be heroes, unaware that they're destined to become the monsters they fight.

Their wishes inevitably end in misery: one cannot distort the fabric of reality and expect it not to backfire. But this misery is crucial; it's the catalyst that turns these young girls into Witches-- into the very epitome of their despair.

The law of entropy states that whenever energy is converted from one form or another, energy is lost in the process. Eventually, when there is no free energy left, the universe will no longer be able to sustain life. For us, heat death is only a theory, but in Madoka Magica, it's a dangerous reality. The universe is running out of energy. To combat entropy, an alien race found a source of energy not bound by the law of conservation-- the energy given off by emotion.

Of all the beings in the universe, they found humans to be the perfect candidates; or more precisely, female teenagers, so often tugged to and fro by chaotic vicissitudes of adolescence. And they harvest that release of energy emitted when a girl reaches that zenith of despair and transforms into a monster.

And thus, Kyuubey makes contracts for the purpose of creating witches. It's not out of cruelty nor malice, since emotions are foreign to his kind. Instead he sees it as a utilitarian would: a necessary sacrifice of a few for the survival of many.

Character Name: Garfield Mark Logan (Beast Boy)
Canon: Teen Titans (animated series)
Canon Point: Post-Season 2
Background/History: teentitans.wikia.com/wiki/Beast_Boy
Previous Game History: Beast Boy will be taken from the end of [community profile] mayfield_rpg.

What Mayfield did for Beast Boy is vaguely equivalent to what the final battle against the Brotherhood of Evil did for him in canon. As of the end of Mayfield, Beast Boy has learned to become more serious, able now to integrate the harsh lessons he had learned from the Brotherhood of Evil with the more laid-back attitude of the Teen Titans. Organizing (in a loose sense of the word) a 'superhero team' to fight back against Mayfield's atrocities however he could, he did his best to contribute towards the defeat of the town and even showed some adequate leadership skills of a sort. During his time in Mayfield, Beast Boy began to understand why it was that he lived the life he did - not because he was raised by superheroes or because he had known no other life, but because of a genuine desire to achieve fame and be awarded a lifetime supply of free tofu pizza help those who were in need.

On a more personal note, the loss of many of his friends to Mayfield's 'droning' hit Beast Boy particularly hard. Due to being an orphan and because he never felt as if he received the love and encouragement he wanted from Mento, he greatly values anyone who displays any sort of affection towards him and for a time, he didn't know how to keep going without his team. Interactions with those who remained in the town, though, particularly his closest friend, Cain, and his love interest, Terra, gave him the strength to move on - and it taught him to value every last one of his relationships all the more. Beast Boy is more open to expressing his affection for others now, and is more capable of vocalizing the way he feels to minimize misunderstandings.

Personality: From the point I'm taking him, Beast Boy very much embodies the ‘teen’ in Teen Titans. Likely the youngest member – and, well, the shortest - he serves as the main source of comic relief and attempts to keep his close friends grounded in reality. Or grounded in immaturity, as the case may be. They’re superheroes, but they’re all still kids, after all. He tells puerile jokes, enjoys acting like the class clown, plays video games nonstop, and is unable to resist wisecracks even in the middle of intensely serious situations. He delights in horror movies and has flights of fantasies that usually involve killer robot clones invading from Mars. His life’s mission is to make Raven crack a smile. The only way to snap him out of hypnosis is to do something that a teenager would find funny – burp, say dirty words, crack stupid jokes, etc. In short… Beast Boy is just like any other typical teenaged boy. He just happens to fight crime on the side.

Also perhaps like any other typical teenaged boy, Beast Boy’s antics are mostly for the purpose of attracting attention. It’s somewhat difficult for a green, pointy-eared superhero to make friends easily, and while Beast Boy would love to be at the center of a huge crowd of attention, it’s impossible. So he settles for making his close friends laugh, instead. Above anything else, he wants to be liked and loved and appreciated, and despite his good humor, he may be the most insecure member of the team. Even when his friends have very legitimate reasons to be too busy to spend time with him, he feels abandoned and lonely very easily. Though perhaps not to the extent of other characters in this archetype, Beast Boy’s joking and laugher are occasionally there just to mask his own problems.

This may be why he believed so strongly in Terra. Taking a look at their relationship, it’s clear that Beast Boy found her extremely attractive, but it’s equally clear that they were kindred souls. Beast Boy lost his parents in an accident and blames himself for not being able to use his abilities well enough to save them; Terra is unable to control her powers and causes chaos wherever she goes. Both characters put up something of a front to cover their more sensitive natures – Beast Boy with his jokes, and Terra with a gung-ho, energetic attitude. Both search earnestly for people they can call friends. But while Beast Boy found the Teen Titans early on, Terra was too broken from her years of running to be able to trust so easily. This highlights another one of Beast Boy’s personality traits: he is intensely kindhearted. Despite his initial declaration of disaffection upon realizing Terra’s betrayal (‘You don’t have any friends’), it’s clear he regretted his words as he urges his team members to give Terra another chance. Even when he himself accepts that Terra is a criminal who must be stopped, he immediately turns sympathetic again the instance he notices Terra in pain. Beast Boy’s kindhearted nature shows up time and again – when he believes Starfire to have been hurt or killed by Thunder and Lightning, when he stays behind to save Raven from her demonic inner self, and of course, in his refusal to eat animals due to his innate sympathy.

Other aspects of Beast Boy’s personality are pretty well-defined as well. He admires ‘coolness’ quite a lot and desperately wishes for a moped (he also believes himself to be cool, pointing out that ‘chicks dig pointy ears’), he becomes jealous and competitive very easily as seen in his interactions with Aqualad, and he has a strong sense of responsibility for things that he feels are his fault – Starfire’s potential injury – but despite this, he has difficulty in fessing up to his mistakes. Beast Boy will eventually develop into a more mature, more competent hero capable of being a leader, but that will be saved for canon updates.

For the way he's developed in the year after his canon point, see the previous background history for more on his personality.

Abilities/Powers: The side-effect of some combination of a deadly disease and an attempted cure, Beast Boy has the ability to transform into any animal he knows, regardless of whether or not it still exists. Or ever existed. He has a preference for dinosaurs. He can’t talk in his animal forms, though telepaths and other animals of the same species can still communicate with him.

OK. Time for a reevaluation of the situation. Waking up in an unfamiliar room: check. Waking up without any of his stuff: check. Waking up in a city and a world without any of his team, friends, or even someone he had briefly met on the side of the street in Mayfield: check, check, check. Beast Boy drops his head into his hands as he lets out an audible groan, the possibility that this miiiight just be some sort of sadistic nightmare being the only thing keeping him from a total panic attack.

At least he was still green.

The city was desolate. Not Mayfield-as-a-fallout-shelter desolate, but still not somewhere he'd want to buy a condo. Nothing worth noticing in the view from the window apart from the vaguely ominous billboard featuring -- he flinches -- something in a gas mask. Vaguely reminiscent of a certain breed of white-coated monstrosity he was familiar with. Honestly, between Mayfield and Mayfield II: The Return of the Revenge of the Sucky Towns Without Any of the Stuff He Wanted, he preferred the one where he had a chance to get back some of his essential things from h --

"...............My games! Gaaaaaaaahhhh!!!"

Beast Boy doesn't need to become a beast to release an inhuman wail of true grief and despair.

Personality:

❝You're getting ahead of yourself again, Korra.❞

Avatar Aang was a monk in tune with his spirituality and pacifist that excelled at airbending while struggling with the other three elements whom had found it difficult to come to terms with his identity as the Avatar. Korra's personality and character serves as a antithesis to his own. From her introduction she has shown to be a brazen, impulsive wild child with ambition and an uncanny mastery of the physical side of bending with an almost stubborn ignorance to the spiritual disciplines that are part of her duty as the Avatar.

That isn't to say she doesn't posses the more positive traits associated with her duty as the Avatar. While hot-headed and even tactless at times, Korra is a compassionate person that knows her role as the Avatar is the serve the world she represents as the bridge between the spirits and humanity. Her own personal demons come from that understanding, and throughout the series she struggles to learn just what is means to be the Avatar. While some of her actions may be short-sighted and poorly planned her motivations are altruistic as she overcomes her sense of pride and aggressive behaviour to find her place in the world. Easier said than done, but Korra wants what's best for the world; she fights with herself as much as she does her adversaries to grow, and find meaning in the role given to her.

From a young age, Korra had been raised in isolation in a compound deep in the South Pole where she trained in the elements of water, earth, and fire with the intent of keeping her safe from the outside world. A true product of her environment, Korra was maladjusted to life outside of the compound even though she desperately wanted to go out into the world and live among others. For example: The Order of the White Lotus and later her airbending master, Tenzin, had consistently tried to keep her out of harm's way as she trained, but this was counter-intuitive to the purpose of the Avatar's duty to live among others and grow as one of them. Korra herself showed an awareness to this and rebelled first by running away from the compound to Republic City and again when she fought Tenzin's method of training her by keeping her on Air Temple Island. While this can be written off as her usual brand of stubbornness, it can be said that while Korra has difficulty with the less-physical aspects of bending and her status as the Avatar she knows where she is needed.

Initially Republic City was a difficult transition for Korra and she came into it with a black and white view of the world, and the idea that bending was more a means to an end without considering what all that power really meant as a responsibility. This had gotten her into trouble time and again since coming to the city with her proclivity for running headlong into a situation without considering the consequences or moral grey area. Her way of thinking worked against her countless times in that she was later easily manipulated by those aforementioned grey areas. Much as she wishes to do the right thing Korra can be callow and swayed by the opinions of others, as with Tarrlok coercing her onto his task force with the intent of using her in what was really a vanity project. Another example would be her poor handling in the situation revolving around her feelings for her friend, Mako; someone involved with another girl. Korra acted impulsively on her own feelings without considering the consequences and inadvertently upset the friendship between not only herself and Mako, but the relationships around them. Her actions during that whole incident (like going to a ten and seven year old for romantic advice, for instance) hammer home how well-meaning but again, really naive she is. Nothing she did was out of malicious or petty intent, and after the fact she did what she could to repair the bridges she burned and put her own feelings aside for others.

This does, fortunately, facilitate her as a fast learning. Korra learns by experience, and even if that means she gets burned from time to time it does help her garner a better understanding of the world around her. Conversely, it also shows a side to Korra that she shies from revealing to others. When scrutinized or insulted by others it shows how easily shaken her pride really is and why she's so open to change in the first place. When she takes a blow to her ego, she takes it hard. Korra's biggest crutch is that since she was a little girl she's relied on her status as the Avatar and when her self-worth as such comes into question it really hits her vulnerability as what she ultimately is -- a teenager with no idea what to do herself. This also creates in her an unwillingness to open up to others about her fears and doubts. Korra truly fears those who put so much stock in her as the next Avatar will lose faith or think she's somehow sub-par because of this. It's a negative feedback loop where her fears push her to do better but consequently get her into the very sorts of situations that create such anxiety that makes her buckle under the insurmountable pressure she's under.

Ultimately? Korra is strong-willed with the power and ambition backing her to be a great Avatar, but a very flawed and very human girl still finding her place in the world.

Character Name: Marianna "Monts" Medina

Background/History:

Basic world information here!

Marianna "Monts" Medina is a cheerful twenty-one year old Mexican girl who comes from a well off family, and just so happens to share her body with a particularly unsettling demon that appears as a black flowery mark akin to a tattoo on her back. This demon, referred to as the "Shadow Flower" transferred itself to her body during her birth and it's been passing itself to each firstborn daughter of the Medina family for generations due to the contract made by Monts' ancestor.

Long before Marianna was born and at least 200 years ago, the first Medina matriarch and founder of her family. The exact details of how the first Medina woman came upon the demon are mostly unclear due to lost family records, but what is known was that both the demon and founder were both close to death. Both wanted to live and the lady Medina wanted to stay alive in particular to take care of her large family. As part of the contract, she would have the demon's aid and power to stay alive and fulfill her wishes, but it would use her body as its vessel to prolong its life as well; and if the Medina wanted prosperity for her family and future generations, she would let the demon inhabit her firstborn daughter's body and that daughter would repeat the process and so on. And thus this went on with each firstborn daughters of the Medina clan. Those who prolong having a girl child are subject to a slow and painful deterioration of mind and body due to the strain of having to share one body and so far no one in the line has tried to find out what would happen if they refuse to give birth.

Monts is the current vessel of the Shadow Flower and probably the most unwillingly to fulfill family tradition due to how the situation affected her relationship with her family and her yearning to find a way to get rid of the demon without losing herself in the process.

In actuality, Monts gets along with her fellow Medina relatives who are aware of her situation, but it is the patronizing nature of the adults who expect her to have a child that keeps her distanced from them. Her connection with her immediate family is considerably more troubled. Her mother, Rosalita Medina, the previous vessel, was a kind, but fragile woman who didn't cope with sharing with the Shadow Flower very well. The whispers of the demon and the prolonged cohabitation often put her through fits of madness and it resulted in physical and verbal abuse towards Monts' older brother Nicolas who was constantly told that he should have been a girl to relieve his mother's burden and it didn't help that she was having trouble getting pregnant with a second child. Miguel Medina, the father, had to let him live with his grandparents until Marianna was finally born and the demon inhabited her body instead.

Marianna's mother poured all her adoration onto her new baby girl, often giving her random cutesy names (which is where Monts comes from and somehow stuck) and making sure her daughter was given everything she wanted. Since Rosalita was weak from all the years of sharing her body with the Flower and her second pregnancy, she now currently stays in a quiet coastal community, never fully healed from her experiences. Monts lived with her mother for the first four years of her life and then was sent to stay with her father, brother and grandparents. The young girl found herself suffering the cold and jealous spite of Nicolas who had to endure their mother's abuse. Monts didn't find out about the demon living on her back until she was about seven when she realized she had different physical capabilities compared to other children. From then on, Monts was constantly reminded of her burden because of her relatives and how she would have to marry and bear a daughter for her sake and the family's.

Despite the demon in her body, Monts grew up to have a mostly normal life thanks to her determination and her strong will that mostly overcame the influence of the creature. While her relationship with her brother and other relatives was tentative at best, she was fortunate to have her father and grandparent's support which allowed her to develop into a mostly functional person with a mostly pleasant personality. She began dating in high school since she was being encouraged by family members to perhaps look for a potential partner, but to their frustration, Monts only kept things casual and it continued that way up until college. Now twenty-one, the Medina family, even her father and grandparents, are trying to get her to meet men whom she can get married to and bear a child for, but she always evaded the setups. She had made up her mind long ago to somehow find a way to either get rid of, or live with the Shadow Flower without going insane. Monts wanted to enjoy life and felt it was still too early to think about marrying and having a kid; she partied at college quite a lot and participated in group outings and casual dates which didn't have to go anywhere. No one outside of Monts' family knew about her demon so she found herself having trouble developing meaningful relationships. It seemed Monts would live her life at this stalemate, but as fate would have it, there are some things that a demon living in ones back would attract.

One summer day, while returning to her home, Monts found a young boy of about ten or eleven years collapsed on her front porch. She took him in and let him recover although when he woke up, he reacted negatively to her presence. When he calmed down, the boy introduced himself as Kiva, an orphan and a psychic with telekinetic powers and a strong sixth sense that picked up on the Shadow Flower. The two initially got off on the wrong foot with Kiva being distrustful of Monts, and the latter being unused to having to take care of another person since she mostly looked out for herself (or her family took care of her needs). They eventually got more comfortable with one another and a familial bond of sorts grew between them. Kiva became the kind and fun brother she never had in her own older brother Nicolas and it helped that he wasn't afraid of her because of the demon. Monts eventually stopped her college partying habit in order to spend time with Kiva and help him get adjusted to normal everyday life things.

Soon enough though, Monts found out that the reason Kiva had appeared so suddenly in his dire state. A half-demon freelancer named, Henrik, approached Monts and Kiva during their evening outing in a park, with the intention of taking the esper boy. Kiva had been running away from a criminal organization that was trying to control him for his potent psychic powers and forcing him to commit terrible acts. This wasn't just any normal criminal organization though; this particular group was composed of werewolves and very nasty ones at that. Henrik, was just going to take Kiva with the intention of keeping things peaceful, but to his surprise, he was engaged in combat with Monts (snarky and flirtatious banter included) who saw that her friend didn't want to go back to the werewolves. This was the first time Monts was using the Shadow Flower with the intent to fight and protect. The power of her demon was proving to be frightfully strong, but her lack of control and Henrik's fighting experience got the best of her and soon, two werewolves backed up Henrik and overwhelmed Monts with a fatal bites to the throat. Kiva was taken away and Monts was left to bleed and die on the ground.

Thankfully, the Shadow Flower healed her wounds and was mentally urging Monts to avoid the werewolves and move on or let the demon take over her body. Marianna's stubborn and unmovable will shone through and she fought back mentally, making the demon in her body settle down and help her use its enhanced senses to track down Kiva and the werewolves. She was soon led to an abandoned warehouse in a nearby city and encountered Henrik and this time with a bit more finesse and effort Monts took down the half-demon. She and Kiva nearly made their escape, but they were confronted by five werewolves and one of them offered Monts a place in their group in exchange for Kiva's freedom since they were impressed by demonic power she had. Obviously, she refused and this doesn't go over well with our furry friends. Five werewolves against two humans wasn't looking good until the Shadow Flower fully possesses Monts and unleashed an unholy beat down on the werewolves with Kiva assisting with his telekinesis. Our duo emerged from the fight victorious and Kiva carried an exhausted and non-possessed Monts all the way home.

The took their time to recover while thinking of what to do next. Kiva wanted to stay with Monts, but she knew she couldn't support a kid on her own while she still had her education to worry about and now that the Shadow Flower was more active after their adventure, she had to keep her family's good will by maintaining a normal life and disposition and shutting the demon out of her mind again.

While trying to plan the next course of action, Kiva brought home an injured and starving cat to Monts. After a few days of getting the cat fixed and well-fed, the two are surprised when the cat begins to speak, thanking them for their kindness. The feline introduced herself as Fran, but held back on telling them where she came from. She did tell them that a wizard had taught her ancestors human speech long, long, ago and that only a certain number of cats talked like her. In return for their kind actions, Fran answered their questions about the supernatural world without revealing too much about the magic and psychic world to expand the pair's limited perspective. For Kiva's sake, Monts asked Fran if she knew about any psychics who could help hone her friend's abilities and take care of his needs where she couldn't. Fran knew of a commune that operated in Sacramento, California and as soon as they could, the three went off to locate it.

The trio had some trouble finding the commune, but unexpectedly one of the commune psychics had predicted their arrival and welcomed Kiva with open arms. While Kiva was shown around the community, the leader of the commune offered Monts an interesting proposition. All the psychics could sense the Shadow Flower, but they thought she could be useful to them since she proved herself to be fearsome with her defeat of Henrik and the werewolf organization. Monts was put off by the idea of being thought of as a useful tool and all because of the demon she wanted to get rid of in the first place. She said no to the offer and left the commune with Fran after saying goodbye to Kiva, hoping the psychics there wouldn't make him do terrible things like the werewolves did since they were the only ones who could help train him.

Monts' activities didn't escape her family's notice and the string of violence (well intentioned or not) that she had left behind made the Medinas paranoid. She was incredibly lucky that the psychics from the Sacramento commune covered up her tracks and manipulated the local authorities; their way of saying thanks for letting Kiva join them and taking care of the pesky werewolves. Not that it helped her escape punishment; her father made her take a year off school and quit all her part-time jobs. This made Monts incredibly moody and pensive and even with Fran's company and the presence of her normal acquaintances she could hang out with, she still felt incredibly lonely now that Kiva was gone and she had to deal with the Shadow Flower in a constant battle over her mental state and the uncertain future.
