APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN!
The next processing date is Friday 11th October

IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE

We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every two weeks, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. If you wish to request a specific apartment, please do so in the relevant part of the application. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Every attempt will be made to place a character in their chosen apartments, though this may not always be possible depending on the slots available.

Applications are open constantly, but are only processed every other Friday at 7PM EST. The Saturday following acceptance, an IC mingle log will be posted for characters to be introduced to the game.

We now have a test drive community at [community profile] haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old.

[personal profile] unification 2013-05-10 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality:
If there is one way to describe Fumi, it’s incredibly blunt. She’s nothing like many of the other people she surrounds herself with, to the point where even they call her a force of nature in her own right. It’s not because she’s physically strong, but because of her pragmatism. Fumi is something of a mad scientist caricature mixed in with an opportunist who is willing to go to what lengths she can to do whatever she must for the good of herself and the benefit of others. Within reason, that is. While Fumi is considered a genius, she’s also very self-centered and unwilling to compromise herself in a way that lowers her own perceived self-worth. She’s smart and she knows she’s smart, so she won’t even think of tolerating people who can’t keep up with her or show their worth as a member of society.

This comes to a head toward the end of the game, where the Main Character (controlled by the player) must choose who to side with to create a new world. The choices are Ronaldo, a man who seeks equality, Daichi who seeks a way toward peace that involves no fighting or Yamato who seeks to establish a meritocracy where talented people prosper and those who cannot measure up are tossed aside as trash. Fumi naturally sides with Yamato, because his way of thinking is naturally in line with her own. She doesn’t believe that she needs to carry people around by the hand because they’re having difficulties and that if someone isn’t willing to sacrifice everything they have then they are doomed to fail. Her own past in regards to this is unknown, but the game implies that she’s very ambitious in the field of science and stepped on many toes to get where she is today. She holds no regrets toward it, believing that she got where she was because she knew what she was doing and didn’t hold back for anyone else. To her, the one person who must always come before others is yourself. Sacrificing oneself for nothing is a pointless endeavor that does no one any good.

However, that’s not to say Fumi is completely cold and unfeeling. She clearly aids JPS because she believes in preserving the world and works her hardest to aid the team with her technological knowledge. She isn’t always nice about it, but she does it because she clearly cares. Though it can be hard to get around how blunt and unapologetic she is at times. She gets consistently annoyed if she feels she has to dumb down her scientific explanations because they’re hard to follow (which they are, for any average person) and even refuses to go into Mt. Fuji to assist in stopping a Septentrion named Mizar until she’s dragged in by Airi because it’s just too damn cold outside to save the world. The two greatest evidence for how she actually does care is the photo she loses of her host family while she study abroad during college, who she cares a great deal for and was very upset over losing the photo at all. There is also a scene toward the end of her Fate events where she stops her own experiment because she thinks Jungo’s life is in danger, whereas in previous experiments she was more willing to let him get hurt over her scientific research.

Fumi Kanno is in short a woman who knows what she wants and is willing to formulate plans to get it, even if it means having to argue with people who don’t approve of her methods. She’s uncompromising and statistical, but not as uncaring as she may come off to those who don’t know her well. Despite being so blunt she’s shown to have close friendships with Makoto and Otome, two fellow JPS workers, and is described by Airi as something of a space case and less so a cold unflappable scientist. There are good qualities to her, but it takes time for them to come out. Though her blunt approach to life does make it hard to befriend her, as she is often quick to judge people based on observations.

Abilities/Powers: Fumi is without super powers, but she does have her devil summoning app. The app allows her to summon demons to fight for her and when they’re done fighting or their energy is depleted, they vanish into data and go back to the phone. As per Haven’s rules, she’ll only bring two demons along with her – Odin and Agares, which are two demons unlocked by leveling up her Fate.

Items/Weapons:
Her cell phone. It won’t be able to make calls of course, but it will house her summoning app to bring about demons. I’ve mentioned above which two she’ll bring with her and no others will be accessible.

The photo of her host family from when she was abroad.

A blue laptop. Not able to do much with it, but it’ll be there.

Sample Entry:

This cell phone is impossible. [She grumbles angrily, confounded with the device she’s holding.] How is it capable of sending off live video and audio recordings when it’s such a cheap and old standard model? Not even the JPS phones are capable of this level of live technology, yet somehow this piece of cheap plastic can? That’s not possible at all.

[She furrows her brow and stares at it, well aware that she’s being recorded. She just doesn’t care.]

Unless this world has a different level of technology, which is a plausible theory. But then why this decrepit town? There’s barely any electricity, but yet these phones work perfectly and are highly functioning. You don’t even need to charge it or replace a battery.

This phone is beyond words...I was ready to call it junk, but it might not be so bad. Even if it is very ugly. Maybe if I work on some plans I can redesign it to look better. Ugh, but I don’t have nearly enough equipment here. This is so stressful – how does anyone live like this? I feel like I’m a caveman.

Sample Entry Two:

It’s a couple hours before night fall when Fumi makes her way down to The Haven. She felt the need to explore this decrypted town and she was told it was either a place full of monsters or one without them. She could handle herself when it came to monsters, but right now it felt too much of a hassle to go through. Plus, it would be better to wrangle up a bunch of suckers to help her out with that than to go alone, so it was the safer of the two tunnels for sure. She wasn’t disappointed with what she found at all – a place unlike Haven itself. There was a semblance of life and culture and technology that, while crude, made her feel more at home.

Even if home was more like Haven – destroyed and ruined, waiting for death.

She wanders around just about anywhere she is capable of going. The sights and what she can discern from them excite her mind, as she’s flooded with new ideas. What if there was a way to make this place more accessible? To bring people down here and away from the ruined city. It would be a better alternative to being in a dump and she’s sure people would appreciate it. But, she wonders, why don’t people just come and live here then? It seems almost unfathomable that they wouldn’t. ...Unless they couldn't? It was always a possibility. She doubts they can be stupid enough to waste a good thing like this place without good reason. Or at least, she hopes that would be the case. She just wishes she was allowed to write things down so she could take notes. Stupid rules on writing. There's a reason behind it, but not one she can theorize on without more data.

After some time searching she goes to leave...only to find the exit sealed off. She bites her tongue and examines the closed off entrance and furrows her brow. ...So this was why huh? What now then? Wait around until morning? Sounds like a good idea. ...But if this place was underground then--

"Ah dammit."

The entrance probably cut off the air supply too. Crap. She was going to suffocate here wasn't she? Just her damn luck. ...Well she's at least glad that she was told people come back. It would be troublesome to waste air panicking. She sighs and turns back, thinking she may as well keep exploring until the air runs out. ...Though she knew she would come back, it became quickly aware to her how she was forcing herself to take in less air. She decided best not to stop despite that knowledge.

Background/History:

In a world where wishes are nothing less than curses and names determine your fate, a boy finds himself embroiled in an underground war that tests the bonds from five hundred years past…

Or so the jacket flap says, anyway.

Five hundred years ago, a great war took place in another world. People were exiled to this one. A complex system was set up— in order to save their home world, which suffered great damages because of the war, they have to harvest the life energy of the people in this world and send it back to their home world. Easy enough to understand, right? These people pretended to be angels. Growing wings, they took on the name of ‘Wishmakers’, and formed contracts with people from this world, luring them in with the promise of wishes granted in their favour. In return, they snipped the life force of the contracted person, and sent their life force back to their world, using whatever life that’s left behind for these people to create miracles that would ‘grant their wish’.

Two factions broke out eventually.

One faction believes that this wish-granting and killing and massacring of these people is unethical, and that they should stop doing such barbaric things.

Another faction believes that those who don’t harvest life energy are traitors to their home world, and should be killed.

That’s how this story begins.

The thing about Celandine’s world is that it takes place in modern times. Everything is pretty much the same as the Earth nowadays! Pollution, delinquency and financial problems and all! Easy to imagine, huh. Celandine himself is born in London, England. He was born to a mother who died upon his birth. The interesting about his birth is that before he was born, his mother met a strange, white-haired man, who told her the story of the unladen swallow, that flew lightly without being burdened by the bonds of people. His mother, who had been hurt greatly by previous relationships, took fancy to this story, and desperately wanted her child to be named ‘Celandine’, in hopes that he would not suffer the same way she did.

Giving birth to Celandine was the last thing she did. Celandine grew up in a household where people did not remember his existence. You’d easily attribute this environment to the fact that he is an unwanted child, the leftover from a woman that his father no longer loved—but really, his condition is a little special. At the age of seven, his half-sister screamed when she saw him walk into her room, thinking that he was a stranger. At the age of eleven, he got lost on the trail, and when he returned to his parents, they wondered who this stranger was. Nobody at school remembered him. Nobody who spoke to him knew him. In fact, many people would forget his existence mid-conversation, walking away before they realize that they had been talking to someone.

One day, he meets a strange man with storm-washed eyes, who chases after serial killers and bids them to kill him in their stead. Saving this man from a serial killer, he forms a contract with him-- and through that, he begins to meet a strange group of people who can remember him.

… and because he’s being taken from an early canonpoint, there really… isn’t much else to say. Askldfjlasdf. TL;DR his world is very much like the modern day earth and that is all…

Contact Info: [personal profile] kabochali, PM for plurk
Preferred Apartment: None.

Character Name: Mimi Houllier von Schwarzlang
Canon: Atelier Totori: The Adventurer of Arland
Canon Point: Year 4, before ship completion
Background/History: Main Story and About Mimi Specifically
Personality:
The most prominent feature about Mimi is how unlikeable she is at first. She is very easy to anger, and it doesn't take too much to get her to start yelling. In fact, her first appearance in the game consists of her getting into an argument with the manager of the Adventurer's Guild. This causes her to not gain her Adventurer's License at first, even though the requirement of getting one is basically "just ask nicely". Mimi is very arrogant and rude most of the time, and can be unnecessarily harsh at times. She doesn't hesitate to call the protagonist's hometown "the boonies" and refer to a meek receptionist in the Adventurer's Guild as "wench". She rarely apologizes upfront, and always denies doing so quickly when she actually does. It's almost as if she has an inability to say anything nice to anyone.

Mimi has a lot of pride in herself. Despite aristocracy being an insignificant status that could even be bought in Arland, she firmly clings onto her beliefs of aristocrats being people who are to be respected. This explains her "better-than-thou" attitude towards people, and gets easily offended if she perceives that she is being looked down upon. Her drive to become the best also makes her very competitive, especially when it comes to Totori. She gets very upset if she finds that someone is better at something than she is, and will go through absurd lengths to ensure that she meets or exceeds that level. Despite her pride, she doesn't take certain positive remarks well, such as being called "cute" or being considered as a friend. She usually becomes embarrassed and tries to disguise it as anger.

Despite this, Mimi is not a bad person at all, and is actually quite kindhearted deep down. Her harsh criticisms of people hides her genuine concern and piece of advice for them. She often worries that her criticism may be too hurtful at times, but is relieved if people take it well. Despite her self-centered front, Mimi is actually quite selfless at times. She doesn't hesitate to guard Totori and take damage in her stead when the opportunity shows itself, and she even goes out of her way to save a less experienced adventurer who was having trouble with monsters. When she really upsets someone with her attitude, she legitimately feels bad for what she did, and becomes so ashamed that she avoids the person. Mimi will try to go at lengths to make amends in the most indirect of ways, like grinding quests to get to the same Adventurer Rank as Totori so she wouldn't have a reason to be mad anymore.

While she may seem delusional for thinking that aristocrats are above the common folk in the Arland society, she actually is well aware of the status's worthlessness. This is because when she was small, she used to be sickly and was bullied often. Her late mother advised Mimi to remind herself that she is the daughter of the Schwarzlangs and that she was an aristocrat, which made her special. Since she values the memory of her mother, this explains Mimi's behavior: She strives hard to restore the former glory of aristocrats so that her mother's words would not be a lie. As such, Mimi is actually a very hard worker, and often goes through a lot of self-inflicted trials to become the best, such as her spear training. Her hard work is evident as she keeps up with Totori in Adventurer Ranks, and wields her spear very effectively, to the point where she has high basic attack damage.

Though Mimi vehemently denies having any friends, she actually values her friendships. Due to her personality, she found it hard to make friends. She especially values Totori's friendship, because she was the first person who was ever nice to her. Thus, though she doesn't like to admit it, she tries to do her best to maintain the relationship and becomes very devastated if they get into really bad fights. When she and Totori got into an argument when the latter gained a higher rank than the former, Mimi felt incredibly bad and was ashamed to even see her for a few days. In a span of almost two weeks, she took on many requests to make sure she was on the same rank as Totori so they wouldn't have anything to argue over anymore. This shows the amount of dedication Mimi does to redeem herself.

Despite her outward rudeness, Mimi can actually be a respectful person. She idolizes Totori's older sister, Ceci, and is always humble when interacting with her. She is even willing to help prepare dinner and expresses unusual politeness. She also is formal when interacting with people she finds respectable, such as Sterk the self-proclaimed knight. Later in the game, she also learns how to maintain her cool a little better than the beginning of the game, exhibited when she sucks it up and stays calm during a swimsuit contest she was duped into joining... Though it may be due to knowing that it would cause the one behind the plot to become flustered, since he expected her to get angry in front of everyone.

tl;dr: textbook tsundere
Abilities/Powers: Despite her aristocratic background, Mimi is a talented wielder of spears. Though a spear is normally heavy for someone of her stature, most of her attack power comes from well-honed technique rather than raw strength. It shows a lot during battles in-game, where her movements are very fluid and dance-like. Aside from basic attacks, she has a set of three skills:
Blitz Stoss - Mimi thrusts her spear forward in a stabbing motion, sending a shockwave that hits anything standing in a straight line from a short distance.

Himmel Waltz - Mimi moves and swings her spear gracefully across the battlefield, ending with a strong spear jab.

Einzelkampfer - Mimi's ultimate attack that takes a lot of preparation to use. She slashes the opponent several times at high speeds.

Additionally, she has special assisting skills:

"Hey!" - Guard an ally and take damage in their stead.

Double Down - After Totori uses an item, Mimi follows up with a spear uppercut.

"I'LL BEAT YOU!" - Mimi will slam the opponent with her spear as a follow-up to a basic attack.
Items/Weapons: Rhein Schneiden (a spear that Totori had synthesized with love and care) and the clothes on her back
Sample Entry: Here.
Sample Entry Two:
Since she had stayed in the backwater town of Alanya for several days before, Mimi expected to have the willpower to get used to being trapped in Haven. There was one problem though: At least Alanya had a pier and fresh fish. Mimi could only last so long with packets of jerky and canned tuna... Ugh, so humiliating. How could someone of her caliber, the daughter of the esteemed Schwarzlangs, be reduced to such plebeian ways? She never felt so disgraced and enraged in her entire life. If she ever got a hand on whoever was responsible for this travesty, she'd---

No, no. Even if this situation was a great insult to her, sitting around in this dinky apartment and wallowing in anger would not solve anything. Mimi had to take action... just because her dignity was being threatened doesn't mean she has to entirely throw it away. Fresh and decent food... Where could she find it? She tried looking in the Northern Part of town, but it was still nothing but canned and nonperishable food. Mimi can't get a decent meal out of that! She couldn't believe she went through that tunnel full of monsters for nothing--Wait, tunnel? Full of monsters?

... Monsters are kind of like animals, right? And some animals are so ferocious that they could be considered monsters... Meat comes from animals, right? So technically... you could use the meat from monsters. Come to think of it, she's pretty sure she saw some Punis in the tunnel. She once heard that Puni flesh was considered to be similar to candy in a faraway land---Wait, what is she thinking?! That was way more barbaric than resorting to canned food! Then again, having something warm and not so bland would be nice...

Wait, didn't Totori sometimes use monster parts for her alchemy? Mimi remembered her learning how to make even fresh pies from synthesis... Maybe if she gathered a bunch of stuff, Totori could make something decent. She can already imagine the praise and admiration for her genius idea if it were a success. It would be as expected of a Schwarzlang to be successful with their theories, of course... Not that she wanted praise or anything! And it's not as if Totori was her best friend and seeing her happy meant anything special! No way! Anyway, Mimi should get back on track. Right... she isn't doing something so low-class as hunting for food, oh no. She's just fulfilling her duty as an adventurer and assisting her alchemist partner, nothing more.

She grabs her spear and leaves the apartment hurriedly. She needed to be done with what needs to be done in the tunnel before dark! Not that she's afraid of being there at night or anything!

Character Name: Peter Jacob
Canon: Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem
Canon Point: Post-Guardian battle.
Background/History: To help with following the background of Peter and essentially understanding everything to do with the setting, one might wish to rely on the wikipedia page.

Let's go over the setting of Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem first. A few key things to understand is that the story is almost essentially the Call of Cthulhu the video game. The idea is that there are four Ancients/Gods that have been duking it out with each other for sometime in trying to rule the universe. The main three are known as Chattur'gha, Xel'lotath, and Ulyaoth; all three have been sealed away by one main god known as Mantorak. It isn't until the arrival of a centurion named Pious Augustus that one of the gods gains a servant that will work over the course of centuries to unlock it and help it rule over the universe once more. In turn, Mantorak uses several artifacts to attempt to retaliate; one of the most major artifacts is the Tome of Eternal Darkness, which is not bound by space or time and goes to Mantorak's chosen few of the human race.

One of those chosen is none other than Peter Jacob.

To be perfectly honest, the details of Peter's history are few and brief. The main things known about Peter before the player takes control of him are these few facts: he's a young British journalist set onto the front lines of World War I in order to write a tantalizing story. Anything further than that is shrouded in mystery and becomes minute things in what becomes the destiny of Peter Jacob.

Peter was working on his story while staying in Oublié Cathedral, which has been converted into a field hospital. He discovers that injured soldiers are disappearing in the middle of the night mysteriously. There are no explanations as to where they go; seeing an opportunity to write an interesting story, Peter begins his investigations. They pan out when he sees a healthy soldier being dragged off against his will in the middle of the night by a nurse. Inquisitive about this mystery -- as any journalist worth his pen would be -- Peter set out to investigate. However, he had no way of knowing that his curiosity would cause him to come upon an important role in the destiny of the human race.

Shortly after Peter attained a revolver for himself, there had been an explosion that knocked out the electricity of the cathedral; he went to exit the room, only to find himself in a strange hallway with a screaming floor, surrounded by statues. Walking up to a pedestal, there laid a leather-bound book, waiting to be claimed by him: the Tome of Eternal Darkness. Upon touching the book, he observed the lives of its previous owners and experienced their roles as the chosen of Mantorak.

Peter then knew what he needed to do, albeit reluctantly. As soon as he left the room, he found himself being attacked by creatures of unspeakable origins. Servants of a demented god, zombies, and other monstrosities. Quick on his feet and attempting to ignore his own degrading sanity, Peter set out to find the artifact being protected by the Black Guardian of Ulyaoth. In the meantime, he fixed the electricity in the chapel on his own by use of none other than his lucky penny and quick wit. Then, Peter proceeded on his own to face down the Black Guardian.

The battle did indeed take its toll on Peter. In the end, he won, but not without the mental scarring and how the Darkness will continue to haunt him.

Peter Jacob | Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem | Not Reserved [2/3]

[personal profile] endallwars 2013-05-16 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: Another factor to understand about the setting of Eternal Darkness is a factor of its gameplay. This connects to Peter's characterization most assuredly when one considers the three main "health" meters: Sanity, Health, and Magic. For example, it tends to show that bookish-type characters in the game tend to have a larger Magic meter than anything else, and those who do not take care of themselves physically tend to have smaller Health meters. Those who have had recent unfortunate experiences that could cause distress will likely have shorter Sanity meters. As Sanity is decreased, the more likely the individual will experience certain hallucinations. These are important to remember before leaping into this personality section. But let us proceed!

Crouching PTSD, hidden badass. Like most of those who have touched the Tome of Eternal Darkness, Peter's sanity is fairly questionable. While a good portion of it was naturally affected by his role in order to fight against the Darkness, his mental state is already immediately depleted due to the fact that he'd been spending time at the front lines of World War I. This is canonly provided gameplay-wise; his sanity meter is one of the shortest in the game, due to his time period and setting. As such, his reaction to certain things tend to either be completely dulled in some way, or heightened depending on the subject matter. He is likely to be triggered by the sounds of explosions, and at any sightings of monsters.

On the other hand, despite the fears he's come to develop, Peter has no qualms in motivating himself to do the right thing. Physically, Peter only looks like a typical gangly wimp due to his height (he is no more than about 5'9") and appearance. That and due to the experiences of war and monstrosities, he is most definitely distressed, but this does not make him helpless by any means. Nightmares and horrors may plague him, but Peter is not a complete coward; he is perfectly capable of fending for himself and certainly will do so if he or someone innocent is in peril. Although he isn't a soldier or a warrior born, he is completely able to pick up a sword and do what it takes to fight off his enemies with no mercy. He can be determined, and even in a rush, quick-witted enough to use the materials around him to his advantage. After all, a wuss wouldn't be able to take down the Black Guardian -- a task in which so many before had failed, by evident of the gore around its lair.

Originally, Peter was an enthusiastic young man eager to hunt down his story. It can be safely concluded that, once upon a time, he'd been an optimistic sort of man. It is known that he does find the war to be utterly pointless as he watches soldiers suffer so badly. This doesn't necessarily mean that Peter is a pacifist, but rather that he must find meaning in fights rather than senseless violence. Likely, this same sense lingers with him; he has no love of violence, but does understand when it's necessary to fight against a dark evil. Wars themselves do and will bother Peter extremely due to acknowledging all those who have suffered because of it -- and those who have taken advantage of it, like the Ancients.

Abilities/Powers:

After claiming the Tome of Eternal Darkness, Peter inherited the ability to utilize magick. The magick itself is assigned to at least four main sources of power -- the four Ancients known as Chattur'gha the Warrior (color indicated by red, uses physical power and health), Ulyaoth the Sorcerer (color indicated by blue, focuses on magic), Xel'lotath the Scholar (color indicated by green, focuses on sanity -- or rather, lack thereof), and Mantorok the Corpse God (color indicated by purple). Each power overcomes the other in a cycle, -- Red defeats Green, Green defeats Blue, and Blue defeats Red. All three are canceled out immediately by Purple. IT'S LIKE POKEMON WITH DEMONIC ANCIENT GODS YAYYYY.

The spells Peter knows can be increased and decreased in power/potency depending what points of power he uses. The points of power are indicated by sigils and how many runes are used per sigil. There are three types: three points of power, five points of power, and seven points of power. The ability to make a spell for effective are by how many "pargon" runes are used (pargon literally meaning "power").

The following spells are thus:

Enchant Item: Can either fix a broken item, or empower a weapon according to its alignment, temporarily enchanting it.
Recover: Using a specific alignment recovers only one aspect of health, unless utilizing Mantorok -- it requires more magic, but you recover everything. This spell would only repair damage to Peter, as it is a spell for the "self"; he would be unable to heal another person.
Reveal Invisible: Permits one to see things placed under invisibility. Under Mantorok's alignment, Peter can render himself temporarily invisible.
Damage Field: Creates a temporary ring of power that'll damage anyone who approaches it, save for the original caster. In this case, that would be Peter.
Dispel Magick: Dispels other enchantments within the immediate vicinity, or damage fields like the spell above.
Summon Trapper: Summons a Trapper; its coloration will depend on the alignment. The only alignment Peter cannot assign for a Trapper is from Mantorok. Trappers are about the size of a small dog, and are completely blind -- but have sensitive hearing. Trappers essentially "trap" other people by teleporting them to another dimension, but die immediately when they do. For as long as Peter controls the Trapper, his sanity gradually declines; if he gives up control of the Trapper, it becomes an enemy to him.
Summon Zombie: Summons a Zombie, depending on the alignment. Peter can take control of the zombie until it dies or he gives up control of it. As with Trappers, the longer Peter keeps control of the Zombie, his sanity decreases.
Summon Horror: Summons a Horror beast; Horrors are powerful, large monstrosities. They're approximately twice the mass of a usual human being. Same rule applies here; the longer it's controlled, the more sanity is lost. Peter loses control of it when it dies, or when he chooses to -- in which case it becomes a powerful enemy.
Shield: Dots of magick appear over Peter, temporarily protecting him from magickal, physical, or mental harm depending on the alignment he chooses (ex: a Xel'lotath spell would only protect his sanity, Chattur'gha would only protect him physically, etc.) Its power depends on how many points of power and how much magick Peter puts into it.
Magickal Attack: A magickal attack that will damage any enemies nearby. Its power depends on how many points of power and how much magick Peter puts into it.

At this time, that's all that Peter knows how to do via magick -- and it does drain him every time he uses it, so it's not everlasting. He has his limits.

Considering the fact that it IS a very healthy list of spells, if this overpowers Peter in any sort of way, we can work out what spells should be nixed at this time.

Here is also a helpful link if it's needed to better describe the spells/magick.

Other Characters Played: N/A
Preferred Apartment: None

Character Name: Minako Arisato
Canon: Persona 3 Portable
Canon Point: November 7, 2009
Background/History: The original P3 and P3P.

Personality: Given Minako's status as a silent protagonist, her personality is generally shaped by the actions the player makes for her. However, that doesn't mean she's a completely blank slate- her dialogue choices give us a decent idea of who she is. From the beginning of the game, it's clear Minako is a very friendly person. When she first meets Yukari, the other girl nearly pulls a "gun" on her. Despite this, one of Minako's first choices when speaking to Yukari is, "Nice to meet you!" A day later, Minako finds out she and Yukari are the same homeroom, and tell the other girl she's glad she gets to have classes with a friend. She can be very enthusiastic too- when Minako meets one of her teachers for the first time, she can either respond calmly and politely ("I'm pleased to meet you.") or in a much more chipper manner ("Nice to meet you!"). This enthusiasm isn't just limited to her social interactions with others though. It manifests itself in her daily life in a variety ways, such as in the variety of recipes she tries out in the cooking club (a new one every day!), the way she bounces back from terrifying events, or just how energetic she behaves. Minako wants to do as much as possible as quickly as possible, and this desire, while admirable, is a double edged sword. If Minako pushes herself to do too much without rest (which is very easy to do in P3P), she gets sick, and becomes unable to do anything except take it easy for several days.

Once you get to know her better though, it becomes clear Minako has a silly side too. Yukari and Junpei have a disagreement about how safe it is to visit the back-alleys if Port Island Station at night; Yukari claims the outing could be an adventure, while Junpei insists it's much more dangerous than that. Our protagonist can make the comment that it's "Adventure time!" before heading out into the night. In the drama CDs, she teases Junpei after he tries to get the others interested in another trip to the beach. After they all respond negatively to the idea, Minako declares that it's "GAAAAAME SET!" and match, with Junpei as the loser. Unfortunately, there are times when Minako's sense of humor comes across as a bit warped and inappropriate for the situation. After the team is forced to break into the school at night, they need to find the keys to the gym, which should be located in the faculty office. Yukari manages to find a set of keys but due to the lack of light, cannot read them. Minako can claim the keys say "Morgue," even though she knows perfectly well that such a response would freak the other girl out. When a young child named Maiko asks Minako why her parents are getting a divorce, Minako has the option to tell the Maiko her parents are separating because she was a bad girl.

Quirks aside, our protagonist has several other (glaring) flaws. The teen can be rather pushy, and she butts into a number of situations uninvited. For example, when Akihiko asks Junpei to do him a favor, Minako invites herself on the errand. At other times, her friends will ask to be left alone, and Minako will simply ignore their request. This reaction is a mixture of her intrusiveness and her tendency towards action instead of words; unfortunately, this tendency has resulted in a fair number of problems on its own. When people Minako cares about are insulted or demeaned in front of her, she immediately jumps in, sometimes with words, more often with physical retaliation without considering the consequences. If someone is in danger, she'll push them out of the way, regardless of her own safety. In other words, while Minako may mean well, she can be reckless, and may not think things through, which can result in all kinds of unpleasant situations.

Minako can be very oblivious about the emotions or situations. She's more than capable of saying the wrong thing (see divorce situation above), and sometimes just doesn't get it. There are times when she completely misses the way people feel about her unless they deliberately spell it out. She doesn't question any of the information she learns about the Dark Hour, and even thinks that wandering into a dark alley late at night to question a group of delinquents will turn out okay, despite Junpei repeatedly telling her otherwise. Certain events have tempered this trait as well as her recklessness, but both are qualities that still exist within her.

There are two final points that define Minako's character; her sense of responsibility, and how much she values her friends. Minako's sense of responsibility, originally stirred by her contract with the Velvet Room, is what keeps her moving forward, no matter how hard things get. Where other people might give up after discovering they're the reason the world is going to end, Minako never stops looking for a way to fix things, or ease the burden other people are going through. And despite of all the mistakes and misunderstandings Minako can cause, she truly values her friends. She would do almost anything for them, and is highly offended whenever she feels someone is mistreating the people she cares about. She can forgive them for many things too- Minako easily forgives the 10,000 yen Tanaka scams her out of, and welcomes Ken back to the team despite his involvement in Shinjiro's injury. Without the support of her friends, Minako herself is diminished- it's highly unlikely she would have survived the year without her companions, and without their friendship she could never reach her maximum potential. The bonds she makes allow her overcome the final challenge of the year.

Abilities/Powers: Minako is a natural Persona user, which means she can summon a power born from her soul, and shaped by her personality. On top of that, she has the power of a Wild Card, which means she a) has more than one Persona and b) can freely switch between them during battle. There are a few conditions though- despite the wide variety of Persona Minako can use, she can only maintain at most twelve Persona in her mind. If she wants to use a different one, Minako would have to visit the Velvet Room to summon or create a new Persona. Using a Persona is no cakewalk either! It takes a great deal of concentration and will-power to summon a Persona. If this concentration is broken, the summoning will not take place. As a Persona 3 protagonist, Minako also requires an Evoker to complete the summoning; theoretically, she could learn how to summon a Persona without her Evoker, but that would take an extraordinary amount of time and practice.

So what exactly can a Persona do? A Persona is capable of many things, such as healing wounds, casting magic (attack spells, buffs, debuffs, status-altering spells), or physically attacking an enemy in a variety of ways. Casting spells requires SP, or Spirit Points, while physical attacks require HP, Health Points. A person cannot cast a spell or use an attack that calls for more SP/HP than the person has.

Persona also have their own characteristics. Some Persona are better physical attackers (i.e., they have a higher Strength stat), while others are better spell casters. Some learn lots of fire spells, others learn light/dark spells (insta-kill moves, provided they hit). They all have things they're strong or weak against as well- Pyro Jack, a fire type Persona, can Nullify fire-based attacks (the attacks cause no harm to Minako), but is Weak against ice moves (ice attacks cause extra damage and result in a knocked down status). Since Minako's abilities are based on what her equipped Persona can do (the Persona at the forefront of her mind), that also means her strengths and weaknesses are based on that Persona. Literally speaking, if her equipped Persona has lots of Strength, Minako is a strong physical attacker. If they have a lot of Luck, Minako is very lucky. If they're weak to wind spells, Minako gets topped by a breeze.

Magical Mind Monsters aside, Minako is fairly light on her feet. At school, Minako is part of the volleyball team, meaning she has some physical ability. In battle, Minako is capable of jumping fairly high in the air and landing on her feet. She knows her way around a naginata, and is capable of repurposing other items for battle, such as a hockey stick. But most importantly, Minako is a leader- she knows how to win a fight, and she can do it efficiently. She knows how to make use of her teammates' strengths, and can cover for their weaknesses. That is perhaps her greatest strength, her ability to be whatever her teammates need. More attackers? Done. Need to break the enemy down, or build up the team? She can do it. In dire need of healing? No worries, Minako's got your back.

ANNA ► FIRE EMBLEM: AWAKENING

[personal profile] bitemark 2013-05-21 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Anna
Canon: Fire Emblem: Awakening
Canon Point: Pre-Endgame: Grima
Background/History: GAME INFOCHARACTER INFO
Previous Game History: --
Personality:
CHA-CHING!

Pretty sure you heard some coin dropping onto the counter automatically right now! Don't worry, most people do when they read or see those words, especially Anna. Coming from a rather large family of merchants (we're talking about countless of sisters named Anna), Anna has been raised to think about profits and money. It goes well with her casual demeanor and spontaneous, outgoing personality. It comes with the job, you know?

She drops compliments and flattery at the drop of the hat. Buttering people up is something she is known to do without much shame. It can be seen during her recruitment, she goes ahead and calls Chrom handsome knowing full well his identity. He isn't the only one, in her support with the Male Avatar (Robin), she easily throws out words like "handsome", "baby", and easily calls her kid (if she has one) "kiddo" despite the strange predicament of time travel. It goes to say that Anna takes thing in stride and talks to others as if social boundaries do not exist in between--at least if we're talking about personally...

Anna, a trickster and merchant, can appear to be quite greedy and ambitious. All of her lines are about profits and money, showing her obvious morbid fixation on some coinage. Whether it is saving money with discounts, cashing in fortunes, finding rare items and putting price tags on them, and extreme haggling, Anna's lifestyle runs deep in the idea that money makes the world go round. She even specifies in Male Avatar's support that she believes money can buy absolutely everything. Yes, you heard it! Everything has a price and that is all she has known while travelling.

With her eyes aimed towards gold bricks upon gold bricks, she has used her experiences in travelling and wisdom for quite the number of misdeeds. Though she is enthusiastic about her merchandise, promising them to be top notch in quality, she makes mistakes. Unfortunately, she would rather get away with it rather than own up to it. It's shown in Female Avatar's support, that she would instead of exchanging the work in progress skin cream with the actual one, she walks off with the gold. Not only that, she finds no dishonor in spending it. It's an honest mistake, but her behavior afterwards shows her intentions may not be so kind as long as there's money. She's more than ready to exploit her comrades and allies at least to some extent.

What wisdom and smarts Anna has is usually utilized by gaining profits, but shows that she indefinitely knows how the world works and how to use them to her advantage. Anna is seriously cunning and manipulative. An example is her support with Tiki. These are the times Anna would take note of social status, especially when she's allied with the divine oracle. She finds her way to have Tiki be her next bread winner through her social status, even persuading the oracle to increase morale by having a "public" speech. By "public", I obviously mean Anna sold admission tickets and stationed commemorations shops that sell Tiki souvenirs. Annd does get caught in the end, but, as mentioned in the previous paragraph, she tries her best to get out of trouble and run away from responsibilities. Convincing Tiki that she is planning to donate the money, she is only crestfallen for a minute or two before rising herself up to reaping profits to compensate her loss.

While the avarice creates a sense of detachment in how she sees her comrades and allies, she is human and is capable of creating bonds (though she will gladly take the other kind) and feeling other emotions aside from self-satisfaction and gratification. It does take a while for Anna to warm up to people despite her open disposition. She even admits that she doesn't feel that close to her sisters during the DLC battle, "Five-Anna Firefight ". Saying she's jealous, she insinuates that she may feel even a bit lonely. Also referring back to Male Avatar's support, she is shown that her extreme views on money and the world can obviously be detrimental to the point even she understands that no one can live like that. It implies that, though her life surrounds money, she is more than willing to stick her neck out for others as long as they do the same in return. It takes baby steps. Later in the support, she learns what it means by "it's the thought that counts" once Male Avatar remembers and purchases a necklace for her birthday. In the prospect that Male Avatar can marry Anna, the game shows that she can learn to love someone more than money.

Being upbeat and seldom to hold grudges nor negative emotions for long, she easily lightens the mood to readers through much mirth. Nevertheless, there is more to Anna than a sly merchant looking for some coin. Although she does what she can to butter you up to buy her merchandise, she can be a great ally! Not only that, she would be a great asset--keeping your inventory in check, cutting prices down (and rogues), and making sure there is always money on rainy days. Just make sure you don't fall prey to being her customer, but you probably already have. Maybe she'll spare you? She's pretty whimsical after all and her whimsy will take her to places. All those sudden compliments and extemporaneous speech has to come from somewhere!

One thing is for sure, don't expect A+ customer service.

Abilities/Powers:
Anna is of the Trickster class once recruited in Paralogue 4! Promoted from Thief, she holds much potential with her moderate Magic growth and abundance of Luck. This makes her an adequate Trickster, meaning she heals quite well and dodges many assaults from opponents.

Sample Entry:
[ And what shows is a fresh young woman in some pretty flashy read clothes. With her index finger raised to her face, she looks into the screen curiously. ] I'm A-Okay with this sudden extreme rescue magic at work here, buuut I do have ONE question.

About our luggage.[ This is where her eyebrows furrow while her smile still stands. ] You see, I am a wandering merchant and I carry quite a variety of rare and useful items in my inventory. These things in total are worth more than the Wyvern Valleys! Even an army of pegasuses...! Pegasus? Pegasi.

You get the point.

Anyway, I would like info on their whereabouts. Help a girl out! I guarantee a discount!

Also, if you're out there, my merch better be brand new and untouched. I can understand lining your pockets, but wrecking someone's inventory is as bad as murder in my book! I'll make sure you pay your crimes in full. Plus interest, of course!

Tee hee! Hee hee... Haa...

[ Suddenly, she isn't looking so glamorous. Looking off to the side, she mutters: ] This really isn't good for business.
Sample Entry Two:
Another day, another sale! At least that was what she always told herself. She was exceedingly chipper today though--probably because she received a new shipment of items that are in demand now. Actually, they were on the rage and bound to bring much profit. Skipping to meet her supplier, she picked up her package to bring it back to her tent.

"Come to mummy...!" Gleefully, she pops out the nails with her sword while humming a tune. It only took her a couple of seconds before she could lift up the top and see that...

This wasn't what she ordered.

There was a devastating silence that ran through the air for a second or two, but her face didn't fall until she spoke once more while clutching the hilt of her sword. "Oh dear... What am I supposed to do with this?"

Sheathing her sword, she reached in to take out this metal death trap and examined it with much suspicion. With furrowed eyebrows and her cheeks puffed out, she wondered to herself what kind of chump would fall for something like this?! They had to be insanely desperate to purchase this even with her expertise in persuasive selling.

It then dawned on her--that must be the reason for her sinister and mischievous smile that reached cheek to cheek.

"Iniiigooo!" Placing the contraption back into the crate, she turned on the ball of her heel to bounce out of her tent. It was show time. "I just stocked up on something that will get you a date for sure!"

Canon Point: Post Chapter 340 / Post Election Arc.
Background/History: Series wiki. Character wiki.

[personal profile] killu 2013-05-21 07:32 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: As a member of the Zoldyck family, an infamous family of assassins, Killua has been trained to kill others from a very young age. He takes out opponents without emotion, and is even shown to kill others as part of a temper tantrum. He speaks about his skills to kill very easily.

However, he does not enjoy killing. If we fast forward to the final part of the Hunter Exam, he states he doesn’t want to kill any longer, and wishes to live a normal life. In fact, he shows more of a wish to protect others, rather than to destroy others. Indeed, Killua is a character that uses his dark past to his advantage. Thanks to his family, he has grown strong. However, his strength is used to train to grow even stronger, and take out opponents that he must defeat.

And for the most part, Killua’s personality is much like a normal 12 year old boy’s. He’s playful, carefree, mischievous, and enjoys taking on challenges. It’s not until he meets Gon Freecss that he finally expresses his want to make friends and live as a normal child. And while he has no goal in particular to do with his life, he finds contentment in being friends and traveling with Gon. Despite his uniqueness for his age, Killua does have some childish quirks--he’s rebellious (against what his family wants), and enjoys chocolates. In fact, even after making a large sum of money, he spent all of it on his favorite type of chocolate.

Though, for his age, Killua is definitely quite clever, and one of the quickest thinkers in the series. Perhaps this can be be blamed for the way he was raised--but, he is shown using his wits often during fights, and the hunter exam. He isn’t afraid to fight dirty, or use his opponents to experiment a new technique. In some points, Killua is seen even playing around with his enemies.

However, Killua is not cruel at all. He shows kindness and loyalty for those he is close to. However, as said, its part of his nature to be mischievous and coy. It isn’t beyond him to antagonize those around him a bit for fun, He’s also seen to be humble about his abilities, never hesitating to show off, or talk about his resistance to poisons and electricity or how easy it is to kill others. He’s also blunt to a fault - angering others around him, and sometimes getting into arguments with strangers. In the 2011 anime, he’s sometimes shown to have a strangely quick temper towards a few strangers (this shows during the Greed Island arc).

But, Killua’s strength is not perfect. As the Chimera Ant arc comes is introduced, Killua’s fear of facing stronger opponents comes into play. His brother had trained him to fight, and with this training came with a lesson to always run from those who are stronger than him. However, the choice in the fight is to abandon his best friend, or fight a creature seemingly stronger than him. In the end, however, it is revealed that Illumi had forced this fear into Killua’s head. Beforehand, he would never take on a fight that involved someone who would be a challenging opponent for the young boy. And, that is another example of his loyalty. Although it was predicted that he would abandon his friend, Killua had overcome his fear, and killed his enemy for his friend’s sake.

With all of Killua’s confidence, he can also be surprisingly shy. When someone praises him or generally speaks fondly of him, he seems to grow embarrassed, snapping at the other person to shut up.

As the series progresses, as does Killua’s friendship with Gon. Gon is the boy who Killua quickly became friends with, and was the one who finally helped him express his want to live a normal life. Although Gon and Killua’s travels aren’t exactly normal for a pair of 12 year old boys, Killua lives a life far more freely than one he had lived under his family’s rule. Gon is a one of the major factors in Killua’s character in the entirety of the Hunter x Hunter series. During the Chimera Ant arc, we see Killua slowly begin to crumble and eventually burst into an emotional breakdown after seeing Gon begin to do the very same. In his words Gon is light in what he may see as a dark world. Most of Killua’s life has been about killing, and was perhaps very lonely. After all, this young boy was his first actual friend. Although the servants in his family’s mansion took care of him, his family had made sure that he would not make friends with them.

Killua shows distaste, but not hatred for his family. It should be noted that he merely wishes to rebel against them and what they want for him.

Though, Killua’s fondness for Gon seems to turn into something that even he seems to create a distance from. After rescuing Alluka from her family’s imprisonment, Killua shows a strange indifference towards saying goodbye towards Gon after Gon is healthy, and waves goodbye with an emotionless expression. With that said, this is merely another show that Killua is definitely not naive, or stupid for his age. There are times in the manga where Killua’s fondness for Gon may show to go too far--he speaks about letting an entire town die off in order to protect him, or even committing a joint suicide with the boy. However, there are times that are shown after he’s become injured due to his friend’s actions that he’s shown with a thoughtful expression. It may have been because of Gon’s actions that Killua creates a distance from his best friend.

Which brings the next point of Killua’s character--after rescuing his sister, he shows focus in wanting to protect her, and keep her safe. Indeed, Killua grows from a life of killing to one of protection.Though, Killua tends to show a fondness for Alluka that he doesn’t show towards the rest of his family. In some scenes, he has a soft smile, and plays with her as a normal brother and sister would. Before Alluka had been introduced in the manga, Killua had only shown distaste for most of his family (he respects his father), and rebelled against their wishes.

With Alluka, Killua finds the goal that he wanted to find ever since near the beginning of the manga.

The third most important relationship to Killua is with his older brother, Illumi. Illumi is the one who had told Killua that he didn’t need friends, and even threatened to kill Killua’s friends. Perhaps Killua running away from stronger enemies was part of Illumi’s wish to protect his brother. However, their relationship can only be described as twisted--Killua does, after all, show a fear of his brother (who is also stronger than him).

[personal profile] tehkev 2013-05-21 08:38 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:

Laharl is a demon. A arrogant, selfish, rude, bratty demon. As despite his appearance, he's just a little over 1300 years old. That more or less places him firmly in the "teenage" area of demon years. Which for a demon, of course means he is going to have a ego the length of a star system and thinks he is the best ever. Thus why he often acts childish as can be, making over-the-top demands, insult anyone who shows signs of idiocy, do (almost) whatever it takes to get what he wants and generally just not be all that pleasant of a person. Which by demon standards? Honestly isn't that strange.

Still, while Laharl might be childish and bratty, that doesn't mean he isn't wise as to the ways of the world. He's lived long enough to understand the way the (Nether)world works, might makes right and all that. Yet even with that mindset, he's aware he has to get serious now and then to put people in line. He's the Demon In Charge, the Overlord, after all! Gotta lead by example! At least to those who actually acknowledge him. Which is a depressing few, as far he's concerned. ... and when trying to act serious and mature doesn't work, just beat up everyone until they all understand you're the top dog! It should really go without saying at this point that a punch in the face is what Laharl would consider to be a good end all problem solver.

now as a demon, you might briefly think he is TOTALLY EVIL. ... yet you'd be wrong, as despite constantly claiming he is, he's far from "true evil." His idea of being evil largely involves silly things that while could be evil... aren't truly harmful to anyone in the grand scheme of things. For example: Making a highly addicting video game to shove off to Earth is one of the first things that springs to mind when he thought about doing something villainous to the good ol' human race. ... then again, in some circles that might be the most evil deed of all. Still, Laharl is largely 'self-proclaimed' evil. The type of demon that beats up his enemies, then makes them serve him as a vassal instead of killing them. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY OF ALL... he loves to laugh evilly. In fact he very well might consider it the most important part of being "evil."

Speaking of evil... Or perhaps what Laharl considers evil... He finds the idea of love appalling. As in before a certain angel barged into his life, he found the very word love to nearly cause him physical pain. With "eternal love" being a phrase that could cause him to damn near keel over. While over the course of the game he's lightened up regarding the topic somewhat, he'll still outright deny demons are capable of love, make narrowed eyes at the idea... And generally just all around find the thought of love BLEAUGH worthy. Now in that vein, he also hates optimistic phrases of any sort and (used to) be caused genuine physical pain from seeing a woman with a "sexy body." While he's not entirely over that quirk, he'll still freak the hell out if a curvy girl gets too close to him or is showing too much skin. It would take some time adjusting to each girl of that type he meets before he'd be comfortable around them.

It also bares mention that Laharl hails from a very special sort of series. A series that, for all intents and purposes... completely ignores the 4th wall. It damn near doesn't exist for most characters in the Disgaea universe, as Laharl shows up in cameos in many other titles and most of the time his reason for doing so will be either, A: To try to take over as the Main Character, or B: To get more screen time. While he isn't about to flat out say he's fictional, he's the type who will be heavy handedly meta and flat out be willing to acknowledge his video game traits and perks.

Abilities/Powers:
Laharl is a demon Overlord. From a Nippon Ichi title. What this translates to is he is ludicrously overpowered "stats" wise. Which means he is really, really, really tough and can put on all kinds of displays of force if he feels inclined. The most extreme examples being he can disable an entire fleet of spaceships on his own (while leaving the crew alive) or just flat out blow an entire planet up if he throws a huge temper tantrum. Physically, he might not look like much-- in fact he looks incredibly scrawny-- yet he is one of those types who could take a laser blast to the face and and just have a charred face and cough up smoke as a result. Or if someone were to swing a sword at him who wasn't on his level, the blade could quite easily break upon coming into contact with him. SO YEAH, SUPER TOUGH DEMON.

As for actual abilities, Laharl can control fire to an extent, by lighting his fist ablaze and slamming it into things. Or just summon up tons of orbs of demonic energy and throw them at people to cause massive damage and explosions. He's even capable of summoning a meteor out of thin air to ride down at his opponents while he laughs maniacally from atop it. It's also worth mentioning he has full control over the huge billowing scarf he always wears, as it's basically a part of his body.

And naturally he's very very good with a sword, having what boils down to mastery with them. Be it doing quick dash attacks, tossing circular blades of energy from them, or just flat out making a gigantic dimension splitting ground splitting beam of energy come from it.

Yeah, he's a SRPG character through and through. Likely somewhere around level 5000.

Items/Weapons:
- Cosmic Blade (A bigass sword)
- Super Robo Suit (It's armor!)
- Arcadia (Stat/power boosting emblem)

Sample Entry:

Survival Horror, huh?

*Fun first words to come from a video feed! The demon staring ahead into phone, arms folded together as his scarf holds the device up.*

Tch... What an annoying premise! Don't the people in charge of this dump realize I'm the complete opposite of what should be in this setting? Who's out there pulling the strings that made a monumental misstep to shove me here? I don't even scare easy! Hell, I don't scare at all! I'm the all powerful and invincible Overlord of the Netherworld! Hmhmhm... There won't be a single event here that would rattle my forged nerves!

In fact I have ghosts and zombies and the whole nine yards of demonic horrors for vassals! I even knock their heads offs on slow days for kicks! There's not a single horror trope you can throw at my feet I won't be ready for! Not even those chainsaw guys with bags on their heads, or the crazy undead ones that live as parasite and infect the dead! Hmhmhm... I've played plenty of games of all different types, not just starred in one! I've studied up on this kind of stuff!

... by the way, if any of you make a quip about how I look too young to play that type of game, I'll come toss your bed out a window. I've heard that so often already it feels like a giant vein pops up above my head whenever I do. So keep it original if you want to snark! Fresh, or not at all!

Sample Entry Two:

What a dreadfully boring cameo appearance.

This was even worse than that one time all he had was a single recorded line and didn't even get to show up as a battle! This was a low budget as they come, as far as Laharl was concerned. Not that he got paid to show up in other games as that super awesome hidden character that inevitably has to get beaten. ... boy was he glad he was getting a direct sequel where he'd be the main character. Hell, he already had it, just not in a language that suited him being stuck here from it. In time, though, he would make that leap when it came.

"Hmph... How am I supposed to go about taking over a place if it's barely even worth the effort by being this busted?"

Seriously. These were not suitable living conditions for the almighty Overlord Laharl. There weren't even the kind of conditions his lowest of lowly vassals should be living in. It might be good enough for humans who already go around ruining their world one step at a time... Yet for someone of his stature, he deserved better! Hell, they could of at least gave him a coffin. Those are far more comfortable than that cheap bed he was forced to wake up in. At least there were plenty of interesting characters for which he could potentially scout into his ever growing list of vassals.

"Hm... Hmhmhm...! Now there's a good idea!"

That's right... There was no need for him to look at this as a cameo, was there? If he could forcibly make the majority of the population here his vassals... It would solidify his state as the Main Character, wouldn't it? Only the the type with proper main character credentials would be able to recruit the kind of ensemble cast that could be whipped together in a place like this! Most of the humans here were definitely nowhere near his level, so why should he let a few jump scares and mental attacks get in the way of him stealing the spotlight?

"Hmhmhm... That'll do! That'll do nicely! I'll just have to go and clear out every stage this place throws at me when it comes to recruitment! I'm already strong enough to clear out levels on my own, what's the harm in being a one demon recruiter? I'll have this place renamed to "Disgaea: Haven of Darkness," in no time! Hmhmhm.... HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAAAHAAAHAAA!!"

Personality:

Kyoko lives a rather ordinary life. ‘Rather’ because unlike most teenagers, she has to take care of her little brother Sota and the household chores after school. While she is close to graduating senior high school, she actually has very little idea of what it means to be a teenager. She hasn’t gone shopping with friends after school, she hasn’t joined in club activities, she has no idea what music is even popular for people her age; in fact, the only music she knows of is the anime music her younger brother listens to. In this way, she’s rather closed off from people her age, as she has to live as a second mother for her brother instead. She wasn’t exactly forced into this, but she has a huge sense of responsibility - especially when it comes to her family. She tells Miyamura that instead of going for ice cream with her friends, she went grocery shopping as she wouldn’t want to leave her family unaided.

Bearing this in mind, it is pretty clear that Kyoko is a caring young girl. When people are sick she takes care of them - she made rice porridge for Miyamura when he was sick and made sure he took his medicine. She fussed over Ishikawa when he was injured from Miyamura smacking him. She has a tendency to put others before herself a lot of the time, so much that she can sometimes end up with a lot of stress of low mood because of it.

Despite this, she’s a determined girl. She’s caring and seeing people upset or in need would mean she’d want to help out. In the manga she does extra work for the student council because they can’t keep up, even though it tires her out as well. (Though admittedly, part of her reasoning is guilt for how she treated the Student Council President, Sengoku, throughout their childhood...) She’s kind enough to put aside her own issues for others. A moment that shows this is when she learns how to make stew from her mother, despite how much she hates it, because Miyamura said he wanted it as a dish as a thank you for helping her out. She was sick from stew as a child, so to put that aside for someone else really shows on how kind she is.

Even though Kyoko can be kind, there is a much more sadistic side to her too. As mentioned previously, she feels guilt for how she treated Sengoku during childhood. Starting through kindergarten all the way through to junior high she bullied him. This included standing on him, stealing his belongings, taking videos of his crying face when he fell over... She was really pretty mean to him. A lot of this has faded now, though there are moments when she gets angry and you can tell she’s pretty strong when she wants to be. She threatens Sengoku and Ishikawa in her head when she finds out the two blabbed to Miyamura about her childhood. She flicks Miyamura and Ishikawa hard on the head when they misbehave... and when Ayasaki tells her that she’s thinking of asking Miyamura to be her boyfriend she yells at her loudly, enough for Ayasaki to find her ‘scary’. This is not the only incident where she gets pretty territorial over Miyamura either, when a bunch of girls crowd around him to ask about his family’s bakery, she snaps first her mechanical pencil and then her ruler. Poor Ishikawa ends up slightly traumatised.

Kyoko is very polite and tends to wonder about what people think of her. This is especially the case on weekends, when eventually it’s just her and Miyamura in the house. She wonders if she’s too natural with him, if she she be more awkward about how she’s acted in the past. Not only that, but she wonders about how he acts with her - she over thinks all the little details. Likewise, she flusters easily and seems to be bothered when Miyamura isn’t the same. She won’t ask questions directly, and even when she was only trying to find out Miyamura’s first name she put herself through uncomfortable situations (spying in the boys locker rooms, checking the classroom assignment lists) to find out, rather than just asking him.

Underneath it all, however, there is a lot of loneliness to Kyoko because of her parents rarely being around. As seen in the newer chapters when she has a fever, she breaks down crying in front of Miyamura - she asks him ‘where are you going?’ because all the sees is her past where she had to be strong while her mother and father were away to work. For a child, it’s especially difficult, and it doesn’t help her that she’s relied on Miyamura so much recently, that having him there helps more than she’d ever hoped for.

Abilities/Powers:

Kyoko is a normal human, so there are no special supernatural powers to list here. However, she is known for having quite a bit of strength for a normal girl, especially in her arms. This is shown when she snaps a mechanical pencil and a ruler in half while jealous of a group of girls crowding around Miyamura, but also just comes with her doing so much housework for her parents.

Here there be massive spoilers

Background/History: Unfortunately, March Story is just obscure enough that there's no Wiki to offer for it. So I'll sum it up as briefly as I can here.

In the setting of March Story, there are creatures known as Ills that are often enclosed in objects that catch a person’s eye (such as an earring). The moment these objects are touched, the Ill possesses a human, and once that human kills someone by the Ill’s will, they are tainted forever by the blood they have drawn and can no longer be saved.

March, the protagonist of the story, was similarly possessed; however, she (and yes she is female, though she hides her gender as best she can) was saved and managed to fight off her demon. Now she has the power of an Ill but none of the desire to kill humans, and so she fights as a Ciste Vihad—an Ill hunter—to try to save others from that same fate.

The novels follow a set of connected stories in which March acts as a “treasure hunter” of sorts, attempting to find and preserve these dangerous items before anyone else can touch them. But more about March.

As a child, March watched her older sister and her parents and her small town break their backs for a noblewoman who was possessed by an Ill, all of them constantly forced to create torture weapons for her pleasure. She would still take them away though, first her parents and then other townspeople, killing them for their blood. When the noblewoman comes for the last time—and then reveals it is not the last time, March has had enough and screams out that the noblewoman is a liar.

So the noblewoman kills all of them, leaving only March alive so that she can use her blood later. A Ciste Vihad by the name of Jake finds March and frees her, but is unable to save her from finding a possessed item and being possessed by an Ill herself. March kills the Ill that killed her sister; it is then that Jake finds her and manages to convince the Ill to sleep…as March had not yet killed a human.

Oh right. There’s also the fact that the Ill inside of her will take over the moment she falls in love.

And she’s entirely entranced by Rodin, who employed her and thinks she’s a boy.

It’s a nice story like that.

She is coming post-Volume 4; this is significant because she will be coming right after she found that Lady Janjaghee was, in fact, still alive and wraps March up viciously in a snare of lines. She is rescued by another Ciste Vihad, but not before sustaining injuries. Therefore, March will be arriving in Haven bloody and exhausted but thankfully not in any life-threatening state.

Personality:

At first glance, March is exactly what one would expect from a shounen protagonist: powerful, naive, and geared towards Doing The Right Thing. And this is a lot of what there is to her, but of course, there is a lot more hiding beneath the surface. March grew up in a village subjugated by the rich, and yet she does not resent people of the upper class for it. March could be said to have a very open mind when it comes to people; she is always willing to give everyone a chance.

Just one chance.

After that, it's easy to either mend or break her trust. She is a brash young thing after all, lunging into action without ever thinking through all of the consequences, often needing a friend to pick up the pieces behind her. She can't quite help that, though; March has always been rash, from the time she was a child and decided that yelling at the noblewoman oppressing them all would resolve things.

(That didn't work out so well for her.)

Despite that, she is still geared towards that rash obsession with making things right. In fact, that's what her job is as a Ciste Vihad, and it suits her well. There is an untold number of stories where she will lunge right into the middle of the mess and danger, just to save someone. She doesn't kill people possessed by Ills if she can help it at all; instead, she can exorcise them.

What it boils down to is that March is honestly an idealist, a youngster who, despite all of the tragedy she has suffered through, is thoroughly naive.

...Thoroughly naive. Apparently nobody taught her not to sleep in strangers' boats or not to blindly listen to what people say. She tries, though. Rather, it always seems to work out for her, despite her blind naivete and her emotional responses.

Because she is very true to her emotions. She cries easily--she cries at things that remind her of her family, and she cries at things that make her sad for other reasons. She cries at sad people's stories, and she cries at touching romances and she cries at happy endings.

She's very honest, and very emotional, and it shows. A lot. (For this reason, she is very bad at dissembling, but she does just let people think she's male, and it works out).

Along with her emotional nature, she is an absolute romantic. A good romance makes her melt without an inch of hesitation. Wearing pretty dresses makes her happy; people recognizing that she is a lovely lady makes her swoon. She is touched by all of these things, because she likes femininity and pretty things. It's just a cruel stroke of fate that she's been resigned to the role she has.

As she says herself, she's not a rose, she's a thorn. She wishes she were that rose, however, even now, as much as she tries to be resigned to her fate.

Aside from all of that, March is a very helpful and empathetic person. It is March who listens to the people who want to be heard, and it is March who is most likely to try to understand what is happening in a person's mind before resorting to violence.

She's laid-back and kind, as thoughtful as she can be, and very eager to listen to the stories of the people around her. This empathy only extends to a point, of course; if the people she loves are harmed or in danger, she will react and fight without hesitation (especially if it's Rodin, hoo boy). There are a few things that Morgan will not tolerate, and her friends being threatened, or people in general being killed, are a few of those things.

With all of this, it's clear that March is an extremely strong person emotionally. She is easily brought to tears by thoughts of her past, but she never lets it stop her from doing what she needs to do to protect the people around her. She's determined, stubborn and hard-headed, and that is all she needs to be the only Ciste Vihad that tries to save--and not kill--the victims of Ills.

On a side note, she is also very fond of talking to herself and often waxes poetic about the most inane of things.

Yeah, she's one of those shounen heroes.

[personal profile] treadstone 2013-05-23 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality: When we look at the character Jason Bourne and we've seen the full picture, or what the films allow us to see, we end up with three questions. Who is Jason Bourne? Who is David Webb? Who is the man in between? Jason does not have split personality disorder or anything of the like but what he does have is a conditioned behaviour that has carved him in to a near superhuman weapon and has heavily damaged his psyche.

Who is Jason Bourne?
Bourne is a rogue black operative leveled above top secret in affiliation to the Central Intelligence Agency of America. He is a ghost with a large number of names registered in various countries and plenty of past names. (Jean-Pierre, John Michael Kane (France), Nicolas Lemanissier (France), Charles Briggs, George P. Washburn, Foma Kiniaev (Russia), Mr. Cruet, Gilberto de Piento (Brazil), Paul Kay (Canada), and Adam Stone.)

He was the first experiment of Treadstone and was the hardest to break down likely due to David's extreme internal moral code. He has endured heavy trauma as part of the program's protocol that breaks men down mentally, emotionally, and morally until they are stripped to bare wire and ready for 'reprogramming'. He is a human weapon and as such is highly dangerous. Bourne has all the credentials of a Black Op with a mind of a Captain which was the rank David had attained before enlisting in to Treadstone. He has a rapid response time and is quick to take lead and take action. Bourne is resourceful, methodical, and nigh unstoppable and he is very good at surviving. It is mentioned in canon that "they don't make mistakes. They don't do random. There is always an objective. There is always a target."

Who is David Webb?
David is a soldier who, presumably, has been all of his life and made his way up to Captain. He is morally strong and has a supreme internal code of what is and what is not right or wrong. This is proven by the very fact that, even after all the 'conditioning' he endured at Treadstone, he could not go through with a job of assassinating another man due to that the man's children were in the room. If faced by opposition that is female, young, or well aged, he might hesitate or make action to cause the other to surrender rather than simply take them out but in the end he does what needs to be done.

David is the type of man that would throw himself into fire to save a life and walk away before anyone could know who it was that did so or hand him any sort of prize for the matter. It's just who he is. He doesn't want fame. Webb is not vain and nor does he look for the title of hero. He is a man who loves his country and wants to do right and he enlisted in Treadstone for exactly that reason as he was told he would do things no other men could; things that would keep American's safe and save lives. He is an extremely good-hearted man, a Catholic, a patriot. He can be sweet, shy, gentle, with a side of cheeky and dash of sarcasm.

David, like Jason, has all the abilities of an extremely well trained operative but he is emotionally in tune with the world and himself. David loves, as he was in love more than once. He sympathizes, he hurts, he smiles, he laughs, he cries. He is humane and very emotionally durable.

Who is the man in between?
The man in between is the man that we know on screen for most of the movies. Typically going by the name of Jason Bourne (But in game he will opt to go by the name of David Webb), the man in between suffers from amnesia and is highly damaged having endured the extreme conditioning of Treadstone. He often has trouble sleeping and endures painful flashbacks to the point of physical pain. He remembers bits and pieces of his life as Jason Bourne before he was found floating on the Mediterranean Sea but is constantly seeking to fill in all the gaps. He does not remember David Webb at all save for whatever might be found in his files. The man in between carries both the skills of Bourne and the humanity of Webb with a side order of fragmentation. He is the combination of the weapon and the man and he aches for some form of normalcy after he's retained the answers he seeks.

The question is, can he ever be normal? He was a soldier his entire life and during any situation that calls for the black operative, all moral shuts off and the weapon comes out until the job is done. It is something so hardwired in to him that the truth of the matter is that he will likely never be 'normal' ever again. He can and does easily flip a switch the instant he senses danger rapidly changing from the good soldier to the cold weapon.

The man in between tries to keep people at an arms length and prefers to look after people from afar. It's easier than it sounds, because his humane side cares for the welfare of others, but he knows that being in connection to anyone makes them as much of a target as he is. It protects him, and it protects them.

Abilities/Powers: Bourne is an expert in four lethal methods of martial arts: Jeet Kune Do, Krav Maga, Kali Martial Arts, and Ninjutsu.

He is infamous for his talent of gravely injuring and/or killing persons with regular everyday items such as pens, books, rolled up paper, and towels. He has been conditioned and trained to the point of nigh superhuman with expedient reflexes and response times and well honed senses. Treadstone literally made him in to a living and breathing weapon that feels no emotions whatsoever and makes no judgement other than the termination of the target and/or getting the job done.

Bourne is also highly versed in a variety of arms. A sample of canon weaponry can be found here, here and here.

He knows a wide variety of languages that includes:
English, French, Dutch, Russian, German, Spanish, Czech, Polish and Italian.

In that he became a Captain of (what we assume to be Delta but was never specified in the movies themselves) it is to be said he has a high level of militant intelligence.

Items/Weapons:
1 Glock 17, 14 bullets remaining
1 extra Glock 17 magazine
1 Beretta 92FS fully loaded (20 rounds)

Sample Entry: He is really quiet and unlikely to make a first post for quite some time unless something really urges him. He's more likely to respond to other people's posts. Due to that, I have put here a link of him in action in another game. It is a thread of his response to someone elses post. I've left a few samples for you:

Sample one | Sample two

Sample Entry Two: David jolted awake with a sharp exhale when an alarm shot through his ears. That alone was abnormal. He had never needed an alarm to get himself up in the morning. Like programming, he woke up at 5AM every day. He was not conscious enough to consider this, however. Instead, he rolls to his back with an arm across his eyes and a long inhale to calm the heartbeat that throbbed with such a sudden arosal.

It was at the sound of other bodies waking the same as he that David snapped in to consciousness with a jolt. Eyes immediately looked over at the other beds that were all occupied by people he had never seen before in his life.

Backtrack.

He searches his person, first. Awkward that he would be so fully dressed and loaded after a long sleep-- awkward that he'd manage to get a good long sleep in the first place. That alone didn't happen often. Now, what did he remember before this? He remembers Langley, he remembers Pam, he remembers that he was just about to enter the facility and hand off those files.

That's it.

There's a phone, too, in his pocket. Not the one he uses. He takes it into his palm and flips it a few times with a good examination. It looks normal -- battered, but normal. He'll deal with that later.

David doesn't hesitate much longer. Quietly, he goes about his own business and picks himself up to head over to the window and then through the door but the view caught him off guard.

He stands there not quite sure how to encorperate what he's seeing into his reality yet. W h a t .

Re: Xia Wei / Original Character / Not Reserved

[personal profile] 73574561 2013-05-24 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
Background/History: (In the world as we know it.)
Xia Wei (Usually referred to as Xia Wei as opposed to just Wei because two character Chinese names. Also in Asian order. Although he’ll tell people to call him just Wei.) is born into a sleepy prairie town - which he doesn't remember, because four months later, his family packs up and moves to a bustling municipality where they settle into an apartment that will be Xia Wei's home for the next twelve years. The son of a former English professor turned translator and a hospital surgeon, Xia Wei flourished in his environment. Made friends, excelled at math, and took up an interest in singing, soccer, and cartoons. At twelve, they moved closer to his mom's work, putting them neatly in the center of the city. This gave the twelve year old Xia Wei both an unprecedented freedom and incredible constraints - perhaps, it is here that the seeds of rebellion are first planted, among the heady rush of the city with all its people and possibilities.

To be honest, his life is all but uneventful. He does alright in school, and spends a little too much time playing soccer for his parents' satisfaction in his grades. (He's good, though. Ends up leading their school soccer team to district championships in his final year as team captain.) Hangs out with his friends, goes to karaoke every now and then, runs the anime club, and sweeps the math contests with mediocre results. In fact, except for one incident in his second last year, there is nothing to mark him out from anyone else.

Unbeknownst to his parents, he auditions for an entertainment company - one of those that scour the world for the next upcoming talent, the next pretty face, golden voice, dance prodigy, and turns them into another gear in the entertainment industry, an idol factory, so to speak. So do his friends - just for fun, really. All fun and games until his parents pick up the call. What follows is the loudest and longest fight between him and his parents he can ever remember. His mother screams, his father is disappointed, and he is the most ungrateful son. "But-" he ventures, when his mom finally quiets. "- they said yes...right?" There is a breath of silence before his mom raises a hand - his dad places a hand on her shoulder, but not before Xia Wei flinches, standing frozen. His dad tells him to go to his room.

No one speaks of this again.

Instead, in university, he picks the most useless field he can think of - physics. A more subtle form of rebellion so to speak. While he'd spent the first sixteen years of his life rejecting his heritage, he spends the next few reimmersing himself in it. He joins the varsity soccer team, and in his second year, he sleeps with his roommate's younger cousin. ("We're not really related," he'd explained. "Something like...fourth cousin, I guess.") When Kevin finds out (walks into them, his fault for not closing his bedroom door) he is mortified. "You're fucking a high schooler!" or something like that.

Xia Wei rolls his eyes, and tosses Juntao a shirt.

(At one point, he kisses his best friend. He tries not to think about this. They all do.)

He graduates with honours, and by some miracle, gets into MIT for his PhD.

Personality: With his friends, Xia Wei is best described as a cross between a three year old, and a crazy frog, depending on who you ask. Vibrant and lively, at first glance, he's not the sort of person to hold anything back - if something is funny, he laughs, if he's annoyed, you'll know it. And when he laughs, well, he seriously laughs. Unhinges his jaw and doubled over and oh my god it wasn't that funny anyway but Xia Wei will still find it hilarious. He's friendly and bright, and if you talk to him, he'll always have something to say back. His hobbies include picking play fights, kicking your chair, and stealing your food even if he doesn't actually want it. He's that annoying friend who you can't help but love, even as you sigh over his antics and shove him as far away as possible. And god forbid if he's decided you're his favourite - he'll cling to you like a koala and never, ever, ever let go.

But, like every other person out there, this is not the only side he shows. Left alone, he seems to withdraw away into himself, putting up a thick, impenetrable wall that lends him the air of someone who doesn't want to be bothered, someone who doesn't want to be approached. The boy in the coffee shop who sits alone with his drink, an empty chair across from him, phone untouched on the table, his face equal parts blankness and fierce concentration - just as he is sunshine and deranged laughter, he is a raincloud on an overcast day, a seed still safely within its shell. This is the Xia Wei strangers know - this is the Xia Wei that friends sometimes forget exist, so fleeting it seems to be, a cloud blown away the moment they enter into his life. But until that moment, this is the facade he presents to the world.

Not consciously, of course. He doesn't think of himself as someone who is withdrawn. More than anything, he values his friends, and more importantly, the trust and bond between them. To him, his friends are people who he can trust more than anyone, and who, he hopes, can trust him. Despite his teasing, he's always ready to lend a shoulder to lean on, an ear when it's needed, or silent companionship and tea if all else fails. Even if a twin is born a minute earlier, he's still the gege, his grandmother used to say, and when needed, Xia Wei never fails to be the consummate big brother to those in need.

Yet, on the flip side, to his gegemen, Xia Wei is more than happy to play the role of adorable little brother, so to speak. Maybe because of his baby face, but all through high school, he's always been the coddled one, with both his guy and girl friends. In fact, he's always been somewhat a favourite of the girls - it's not hard to see why, with his charming personality (most of the time) and lovely looks, and god only knows how many love confessions he's received and rejected throughout the years. (He says it's because he's always ben in love with only one girl - one who's never seen him as more than a little brother, unfortunately. Or maybe, he's said before, a little drunk and a little wistful, that sometimes, it's better to want something you can never have, than to have something you never wanted.)

At his core, it's truest to describe Xia Wei as an optimist. Things tend to work out the way they were supposed to, even when things don't seem like they're going the right way, he believes. But he's not idealistic. No, those are two very different things. It's not that he believes in the best of the world, he just believes that the world knows best. True, he's always seemed to have a blessed life (good looks, good grades, what else could he want) but it's still not the same.

That said, Xia Wei is smart. Intelligent. Dogged, really, in that. You wouldn’t know it to look at him, and it’s not something he puts much stock in, but it’s there. Besides, it doesn’t exactly show through when he talks…dry wit and Xia Wei do not go together. Actually, ‘wit’ and Xia Wei don’t go together, period, unless he’s at the receiving end of it (at which point the deliverer will be at the receiving end of a swift kick to the shins, but that’s another story altogether.)

Perhaps because of his intelligence, Xia Wei has locked himself into a garden of his own making – although he’s quick to urge others to lean on him, he rarely leans on others. The sort that’s open to the point of mystery, he tells people just enough so that they know very little about what bothers him. After all, they’re his problems, and if he can’t solve them, then who can? He might be good at talking about other peoples’ feelings, but he’s no good at talking about his own.

He’s persistent, too – if he wants something badly enough. Like that time when he wanted to captain the soccer team, and it was the only time when he was ever awake in the morning. (Usually, morning found him snoozing on a lab bench in Chemistry.) Or when he was determined to get into somewhere good - he may have sacrificed a more than few hours of sleep when he told his friends he was sleeping, all to get in some study that he pretended he never did. (That’s another thing about him – he likes when people think things come easily to him. He doesn’t like people knowing he has to work just as hard. It’s a…habit, really. Easier for them to think he has a charmed life than for him to have to explain.)

Oh, and he’s touchy. Skin ship, physical contact, the works. Thankfully, most of the people he knows are okay with it, but sometimes, Xia Wei doesn’t seem to know when to stop… or does he? Personal space is not a concept in Xia Wei’s dictionary. Your space is his space and all that. Unless, of course, he doesn’t know you. But then again, if you don’t know him, you wouldn’t be talking to him at all, would you?

He tends to keep things to himself, even to the detriment of his relationships with other people. Perhaps, the biggest example would be his parents. He wishes that he could see himself as a filial son, but he’s only too keenly aware of his own failings. The one time he opened up to his best friend, he’d stared at him as if the answer was the most obvious thing in the world: “talk to them, stupid,” he’d said. But therein lay the catch. How could he talk about something he didn’t know how to put into words?

Abilities/Powers: He can code in Matlab, unhinge his jaw, and grudgingly solve electrodynamics problems.

Items/Weapons: His (now non-functional) cell-phone, the Cristiano Ronaldo jersey he’d worn to bed, and his mini Rubik’s cube.

Sample Entry:
[the sun dawns bright, and xia wei wakes slowly. blinks. once. twice.]

…hngh?

[did he forget to close the curtains…? he never forgets to close the curtains tho, not after that time kevin told him he could see him changing through the window from outside. he rubs his eyes and sits up slowly. maybe, he muses, he’s still dreaming.

or not. frowns.

the dull taste of panic begins to rise through his chest, settling in the hollow of his throat. he is, he notes, not alone.

not alone in person, and not alone in confusion.

but, he’ll wait. and observe. something tells him that now isn’t the time to act hastily, even as his palms turn clammy against the sheets. he swallows.]

Sample Entry Two: The room, Xia Wei notes, is oddly bare – like a hospital, only without all the medical equipment, his mind supplies. The panic, he also notes, is still there. Very much still there. His eyes flicker around the room, taking in the confusion of the others, the sameness of the beds, and finally, catching and lingering on the billboard outside the window.

“Huh. Cheery,” he murmurs to himself.

Nothing like a couple of gas masks to ☼lighten the atmosphere☼ of course. He snorts. In Haven, we are all safe…together, he reads to himself.

Haven? Great. So either he’d been kidnapped, or was having a very elaborate dream – if it was the latter, he’d have to have a very stern discussion with his dream self about making up names because Haven? Really?

The stale taste of fear (or something else) settles on his tongue. Maybe this was something like B∆ttle Roy∆le. That whole kidnapping and killing thing.

Shit. He knew nothing about killing though.

But ☼no need to panic☼ he reminds himself firmly. Maybe…he could make friends? There’s that guy over there, looks pretty alright…if not scared. Xia Wei bites at his lip. No, he cautions himself.

No need to panic. After all, they were all safe, right?

Minus, he supposes, the gas masks.

That was another thing. Gas masks? What was this, some sort of horror movie?

Wait.

He really doesn’t want to think about that.

[personal profile] adari 2013-05-24 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:

Castiel is an angel of the Lord. Cliche, probably, but it sums up the whole of him to a point. In general, he exhibits behaviors typical of his other brethren when he first makes an appearance in human form: little emotion, relatively calm, aloof. He lacks compassion in relating to humans as a group and as individuals. He doesn’t understand their lack of obedience or the feelings they express, continuously confused by their assertion of free will, and it often clashes with his perception of them as well as the orders he is given by his superiors. In fact, as little as he understands them as people, he understands objects, phrases, and references even less. Still, the moment he drags Dean from Hell and entangles himself with the Winchesters is the beginning of much change for Castiel. If anything can be said of that, he’s determined, and that determination drives much of him.

His time spent with Dean and Sam, as well as on earth, become a slow immersion of learning human culture as well as what differentiates humans from angels, what it means to be human. He’s loyal to a fault, but after some time, he confesses to Dean that he’s beginning to have doubts of his own about the orders he’s given and how he’s spending his time otherwise. Is it right or wrong? It’s a very big concept for someone like Castiel; thinking on his own, in that manner, tends to not have a happy ending. See: humanity. Eventually, it causes him to rebel against heaven. Yet, it’s not his faith that’s rocked at the foundation. He still has absolute love and trust in God, admires humanity for its beauty, and in those things alone he sees conviction for his actions, though he continues to be naive as to the consequences of them. Most of this is seen later on, beyond season five, when he develops something of a god complex--in God’s absence, he feels it his responsibility to carry out retribution and punishment in an attempt to show mercy, taking back his opinion about free will and all things must be ruled. His motivations become rather twisted, too full of pride, even if they are meant with the best of intentions.

Castiel, for the most part, minus the complex and the inevitable insanity he falls into in later seasons because of it, is generally composed and sure of the affection he shows to those he grows to care about. He’s pretty blind to social norms as well, seen many times in the way he constantly stares or invades a person’s personal space. His methods of interacting with others might be considered unorthodox or just plain weird, but the longer he’s on earth helps to humanize him more than many other angels. He becomes sympathetic and acquires a fondness for things he’d previously been indifferent towards as well, i.e. television and coffee.

Yet, this is a Castiel who is still, at heart, an angel. He’s still connected to heaven and still possesses hope. From the specific canon point of 05x04 (The End), this is not the case at all. Stopping the Apocalypse has become a failure; the Croatoan virus spread, and Sam agreed to become Lucifer’s vessel. The world, for lack of a better explanation, had ended.

Here, Castiel’s personality differs greatly from what’s been described above. He’s human in every aspect of the word. He’s developed a taste for debauchery and decadence, drowning himself in them frequently. Daily even. Drugs, liquor, sex; anything that will give him a high, a moment’s peace isn’t off limits anymore because he doesn’t have the tolerance of an angel to keep him from fully experiencing them. It could be said he finds comfort in these things because he misses being able to separate himself from such urges, held to a higher standard than most. He doesn’t know how to cope, to adjust to what’s become of himself since “the end”, and his only friend is a rather poor example of these particular things himself. Now, he’s down-to-earth, supporting free will in the choice of ignoring what’s become of his (lack of) grace, and when he meets the past version of Dean, he labels him a ‘hippie’ because of this attitude. If the meditation circles and orgies don’t scream that specific label, nothing else will.

He later admits to Dean that he finds himself to be utterly hapless and hopeless. Powerless. There is no use for him, so ”why not”? He can’t contribute much to the efforts of the problems they face, and only because of a deep sense of devotion and loyalty to the bond he’s made with his time’s Dean has he stayed. He needs a purpose and has none. So, his faith has shifted from an entirely absent god and brothers who have left to someone who’s ultimately changed because of his sibling’s choice to invite the devil in.

Comprehension of human things are now an everyday norm for this Castiel too; he’s developed the use of slang and some references he would never have gotten (or understood) before. He still maintains an occasional sense of past behaviors and speech patterns, elaborating when necessary and sometimes cold, but his disposition is typical loose, high-induced happy, and finds amusement in things that probably aren’t meant to be funny. It could be the drugs. It could be he’s seen and been through too much to actually care about the consequences of his actions and/or words. His respect for authority continues to waver between cheeky and constant as seen with future Dean’s orders to walk in and shoot the devil despite it very likely being a trap. He’ll follow him to his death, and that speaks volumes despite Castiel’s behavior of choice post-apocalypse.

Essentially, this Castiel is very discontent and finds every way possible to avoid it. He’s lost to his humanity, lacks that drive he once possessed as an angel. And what more is there to do when the world’s gone under other than indulge to the end?

Abilities/Powers:
A list of abilities can be found here. However, with this specific canon point and given that Castiel is human, he has none of these. He’s capable of getting bones broken and must use guns and other (human) weapons to protect himself. Despite this, there does seem to be a little of his grace still intact as he could sense that past Dean was actually from a different time, even through the stupor of being high. So, a probable odd sense of perception that others might not possess.

Items/Weapons:

→ a prescription bottle of amphetamines (30)
→ a pocket knife
→ a lighter

Character Name: Luke Triton
Canon: Professor Layton
Canon Point: The end of Unwound Future
Background/History:
Professor Layton and the Curious Village
Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box
Professor Layton and the Unwound Future
Canon Point: The end of Professor Layton and the Unwound Future
Personality:

Luke is generally very kind and sweet to other people, as he sees it as part of becoming a gentleman. From time to time, he has the tendency of being cheeky, especially towards a person he sees as rude. He usually speaks his mind freely, which sometimes gets him scolded by Layton. He also has a tendency of acting before thinking, especially if he‘s suspicious of someone, such as when he tried to attack Inspector Chelmey thinking that he was the evil Don Paolo in disguise. Despite his brashness, he always tries to help someone if they need it.

Luke idolizes Professor Layton, to the point that it was he who made himself Layton’s apprentice, not the Professor. He tries hard to follow in the footsteps of his mentor, sometimes even mimicking his actions (pointing like Layton does when Layton isn‘t around). Also, he takes his role as an apprentice very seriously, even becoming defensive if someone questions his apprenticeship. Luke tends to be very curious about the world around him. The boy is very inquisitive and is always asking questions. Much like his mentor, he also shares Layton’s love for puzzles, but not to the extreme that Layton does.

Like most kids his age, Luke tends to have an overactive imagination. He gets scared by things like ghosts and vampires, and depending on the environment he‘s in, he‘ll be more jumpy and easily startled. He’s also a little naïve, especially about adult matters. Unlike the Professor, he lets his emotions show more often. He’ll lose his temper or become easily shocked by something. Or if something angers him, he'll let it show, even calling someone out on their actions if he doesn't approve of them. Sometimes, he’ll even give in to certain child-like temptations, like jumping on cushions of trains.

He loves animals, and has the ability to communicate with them. If he sees an animal, he’ll usually stop whatever he’s doing to greet it. Whether or not the animal reacts kindly to him is a different matter, because sometimes the animal will lash out at him no matter how nice he is to it. Nonetheless, he’ll always try to reach out to an animal that needs help.

Since Unwound Future, Luke has matured a little. He's become more confidant, going as far as calling himself a "whiz" at puzzles. Not only that, but he's more outspoken and will jump in conversations more often. Luke also is more independent, trying to take charge of a situation rather than letting the Professor decide for him, and will even argue back with the Professor if he doesn't agree with something. But what's probably the most noticeable is that Luke is more blunt than he was before, even to the point where he comes off as downright rude and the Professor ends up having to scold him for it. But on a positive note, the boy has learned to become a little more bold and even braver then he was in previous games.

Abilities/Powers: Luke has the ability to talk to animals.
Items/Weapons: A brewing tea set, his messenger bag, and his teddy bear.
Sample Entry: Here!
Sample Entry Two:

So Luke Triton never expected that he would be solving his own kidnapping. In fact the boy wasn't expecting to be solving any cases for quite some time, especially since his mentor was overseas now. The boy woke up disoriented, confused, and even a little angry that someone out there had managed to smuggle him off the ship. Obviously they must have known Luke had connections to the Professor if they would go this far. There only clue he had to what happened was the beat-up looking device that looked like a miniature phone. If he was meant to be trapped inside the room he woke up in, the kidnappers did a poor job of securing the place. Escaping the flat was insanely easy...

...of course once Luke got an idea of what was waiting for him outside, he realized that he actually had no where to go. For a moment he was paralyzed with fear, trying to take in his new surroundings. Even the aftermath of future London didn't look this bad. Where was he going to go? How was he going to find his parents? What if his parents were still on that boat to America, trying to find out where he went?

"A-all right, c-calm down, Luke. A gentleman doesn't panic..."

That's what the Professor would say in this situation. And since the Professor wasn't here, Luke had to make extra sure he was behaving just like a proper gentleman. Even if he was terrified and confused right now.

"I guess I can start searching for clues over by...er, one of the many run-down buildings over there."

Hopefully there wouldn't be anything bad waiting for him. Luke quickly heads off towards one of the buildings, hoping to discover some clues that could get him out of here quickly.

[personal profile] toi_aussi 2013-05-24 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Background/History: Since no appropriate source exists, it's up to me to write as concise a summary of Megumi's history as possible. Thankfully, this shouldn't take too long, seeing as how Shiki is (at its heart) a fairly simple story.

So there's this town called Sotoba, which thrives on dead people. They sell coffins, have the best funerals for kilometers around, and are generally great people to have around as loooong-term investments. Unfortunately, Megumi is a bit of a city girl and not much of a death junkie, and so when the Kirishikis (outsiders from the big city) move in to an ancient mansion within the town she's one of the first to go (clandestinely, of course) and meet with them! This would be a great idea, except for that part where the newcomers feed on her and leave her for dead in the forest.

If this were an anime about cannibals, that'd be it, but we are dealing with Vampires here and so Megumi's death is surprisingly short-lived (ha haaaaa). She gets dug out of her grave by the Kirishiki's daywalking-”werewolf”-vampire (???) assistant, Tatsumi, and promptly begins her new life as a heartless creature of evil. (See personality section as to why this is Not Actually a New Thing At All.) While it would take a long time to summarize every important event in this show, which contains no less than thirty-eight named and plot-relevant characters and often just jumps from one major event to another, I can summarize the rest of the plot in these two sentences:

Vampires try to kill the humans to make their perfect safe vampire village, the humans try not to die or become livestock, and then both groups just try to all-out murder each other. Everyone is generally awful.

And that's basically it.

Yeah.

Personality: Have you ever read bad Kingdom Hearts yaoi fic? You know how Kairi is usually portrayed – the evil popular girl, whose only goal is to get in between Sora and Riku because she wants one of them so badly, and who's even willing to hurt them if she can't have them? Bam, that's her character right there.

But hey, let's take this at least a little seriously and start from the beginning instead. So as a human, most of Megumi's personality is actually intact – namely, in that she's kind of an awful person. She has exactly one friend in the entire town, Kaori Tanaka, and she treats her like garbage along with everyone else she has to interact with. See, Megumi doesn't like being a part of a small town with a death fixation: she's a big city girl, through and through. She wears only the most fashionable (arguably) clothes, she walks with a certain glide to her step, and she wouldn't be caught dead driving a tractor or plowing a field. About the only person she's even remotely kind to is the transfer student from the big city, Natsuno Yuuki, who she has a massive crush on. Like, scarily so – she tiptoes outside his house at night and watches him through the windows. Seriously, she's a creeper.

And here's where the first relevant tidbit about her comes in! Her crush on Natsuno is oddly relevant to her personality, not because of CR or relationships, but because of why it came about. Natsuno is a boy whom Megumi has never actually had a conversation with – in fact, he never says a single word to her through the course of her entire life. Of course, that doesn't stop Megumi from falling head-over-heels in love with the “mysterious transfer student.” See, who Natsuno is isn't actually as important as what he is; a concept, something that isn't like the villagers she hates so much. She doesn't hate Kaori because she's offensive, or mean – she hates Kaori because she's a part of the village she loathes so much. Meanwhile, she idealizes Natsuno and the Kirishikis, not only because they're new – and from the city – but because she hasn't had a chance to grow jaded by them.

Of course, she's dead by the end of the first episode, and so a lot of exposition on her life comes to a screeching halt. And that doesn't last long either, so now, it's vampire time!

Megumi takes her newfound undead status swimmingly, more than almost anyone else in the show. She doesn't once show regret for her actions, for killing or feeding on people – indeed, she performs so ruthlessly she's almost immediately assigned to the city unit, which kidnaps weak and young humans from the nearby cities to feed newly risen Shiki. When she's told to kill the father of her old friend, Kaori, all it takes is a reminder that Kaori's been working with her old crush to take down the Shiki and Megumi jumps on the opportunity.

As a vampire, whatever inhibitions she once had vanish almost entirely. When Nao Yasumori tries to reassure her that killing Natsuno might bring him back, Megumi doesn't even hesitate to remind Nao that her entire family ended up rotting in graves. When Masao begs her for help, Megumi kicks him in the throat (quite literally). When she kills Kaori's father, she sits outside the girl's window and lets her know – in no uncertain terms – what she just did. However, while much of this can be attributed to Megumi just being an awful person in general, it does seem she's at least partially trying to play the role of “badass vampire.”

And really, that summarizes Megumi quite succinctly. She's convinced she's meant for the big city, without ever having gone to know what it's like, and so she dresses in over-the-top styles and fashions. But when she tries to walk with “flair” to the Kirishiki's mansion, she falls on her face. She's convinced she's in love with Natsuno, and makes up a personality for him in her imagination – that he's cool, quiet and reserved and with an icy facade that's impossible to crack – and she tries to play the role of a blushing shoujo protagonist for him (to no avail). And when she becomes a vampire, she tries to act like a cold, uncaring killer. But when the villagers finally catch her, when she's finally realized she's going to die, she drops her various acts and just starts screaming at everyone – she's not in the wrong, it's the villagers, it's the people who laughed her and hurt her that deserve to die.

When it comes down to it, Megumi Shimizu is a girl who has gotten lost in her own imagination – and one who can't accept the reality she's been given.

Character Name: Homura Akemi
Canon: Puella Magi Madoka ☆ Magica
Canon Point: Episode 1 of the Anime
Background/History: Homura Akemi at the Puella Magi Wiki.
Personality:
Homura Akemi is one of the five heroines in her canon, Puella Magi Madoka ☆ Magica. At first glance, she takes the role of the stereotypical "cold hearted beauty"; calm, collected, admired by her classmates, and rather intimidating to the lead heroine, Madoka Kaname. But Homura is actually not this type of girl; her cold and focused demeanor has evolved out of necessity from the under-confident, shy and meek girl that she once was. Though that shy girl seems to have disappeared, it's quite the opposite; Homura's original personality never vanishes. It just evolves to help her withstand her situation.

To begin, Homura Akemi was once a very shy and meek person. She felt she wasn't worth her life and that she troubled those around her. In this sense, she was very much like Madoka Kaname in the Anime's main timeline. However, unlike Madoka-- who needs to become a Magical Girl to become confident-- Homura gets her self-confidence from her friends. In particular, Madoka helps Homura improve her self image. This shy part of Homura's personality is seen to melt away as soon as the second timeline, where Homura eagerly approaches Madoka and starts their friendship without hesitation.

And it's quite true that Homura is a friendly girl. She's friendly, loving, and caring. Her original self-doubts were rooted in feeling that she troubled people, because Homura cares deeply for those around her.
Throughout the PSP game, Homura is seeking to create bonds with the other magical girls and to help them. While the anime portrays her focus as largely being on Madoka, the PSP game shows many instances of trying to create bonds with the other girls. She looks out for Sayaka (eventually regretting her decision not to keep a closer eye on her), worries more about Kyoko's safety than defeating Walpurgisnacht (she becomes upset when Kyoko suggests sacrificing herself), and tries to be Mami's friend (giving her a Grief Seed and offering to accompany her on witch hunts). In one of the drama cds Garmura is accompanying the other four girls on witch hunts and going to Mami's house for tea and cake, further highlighting that she is very willing to be with more of the cast than just Madoka.
In the Oriko manga, Homura is seen going to get coffee with Sayaka and Madoka rather than staying away from them. Even in the Anime, Homura regards her classmates with polite interest. She may be too busy to hang out with them, but her interactions include a faint smile and offer to hang out some other time. Based on the PSP game and how Homura handles conversations with Hitomi, it can be concluded that Homura will hang out with non-megucas if she does not feel the need to be stalking Madoka. Homura isn't always pushing people away, but often wanting to close the gap.

The keyword being "often". Homura may be a friendly, loving, and kind person, but this part of her personality has also evolved. She understands now that she cannot save everyone and, though she will try her hardest, she knows when to draw the line. For example, she abandons most efforts to help Sayaka after Sayaka becomes a magical girl, instead focusing on those she thinks that she can still save. She is willing to sacrifice herself and others to protect Madoka, since Madoka is her "goal".
But even when making sacrifices, Homura does it while loving and caring about the people she's giving up on. For example, in one PSP scene, Homura feels guilty for befriending Mami with the intention of using her. She allows Kyoko to give herself up to defeat Sayaka's witch form, but not without feeling guilty over it. Homura may understand that she has to make sacrifices, but that doesn't mean she feels good about it. She's not heartless, by any means.

As previously mentioned, Madoka is Homura's goal. This is emphasized no better than in the bonus route of the PSP game; Homura successfully makes all of the girls happy, but when she realizes they cannot defeat Walpurgisnacht without Madoka contracting she simply turns back time and loses all of that effort. But more than Madoka, Homura's goal is to find a happy future. She mentions this herself, saying "this isn't the future I wanted" as she spins time at the end of one route. Yes, Homura wants Madoka to be safe. Yes, Homura weighs whether a future is good or not based on Madoka. But her ideal future was to become a Magical Girl and fight alongside Madoka and her friends. For quite a few timelines, Homura didn't think to prevent Madoka's contracting because she would have ideally liked to have magical girl times together. She is hanging out with a magical Sayaka in the drama cd, despite later deciding to give up on Sayaka as soon as she contracts. As she decides her goal is unrealistic, Homura begins to chip off the "hopeless" parts of her ideal rather than throw the entire ideal away, which eventually leaves only Madoka. However, at the start of every timeline, Homura is hoping for that ideal future of bringing everyone together.

All of that said, Homura is quite independent. She's come to realize that she cannot expect help from anyone and that the future she wants requires fighting alone. But that doesn't mean that Homura wants to fight alone. In the Bonus Route, Homura hopes to get all of the Magical Girls together so that they can fight together. Ideally, she wanted Kyoko's help in the Anime timeline as well. Homura will put forth effort to get help, but understands that she will often end up fighting alone.

And this doesn't discourage her. Nothing seems to really discourage her. Until the last second of every failed timeline, Homura is fighting her hardest. For a girl who has replayed so much tragedy, Homura is surprisingly optimistic. She's experienced Mami's hostility many times now, but she continues to attempt to befriend her. She's experienced Sayaka's downfall numerous times and continues to try to prevent her contracting. Most of all, Homura has come to a deadend situation where not only does Madoka die but Kyuubey is sitting there chatting away about how Madoka's witch self is about to end the world. All this does is inspire Homura to try harder in the next timeline. When Homura turns back time each time she does not wear a heartbroken expression, but a determined look that reflects her will to do better next time.

That's because Homura is a tough person. She's the type of girl who doesn't need to be thanked for her help, but just wants to offer it. She states herself to Kyoko that this what makes her wish different from Sayaka's and Kyoko's; Homura wished for someone else's sake, but she doesn't expect that someone to ever thank her. When making her wish, Homura says she "wants to be the one protecting". Because of this mindset, Homura is able to fall numerous times and stand back up just as strongly each time. At the end of the Anime, when Homura's soulgem finally begins to taint, it's because she's beginning to worry that what she called "protecting" all of this time was actually causing more harm than good. Not being able to protect and help people is the only thing that slows her down.

To avoid slowing, Homura hardens her personality. Not to protect a soft and mushy core, like some other characters do, but to help herself move forward. This is all because she begins to focus more and more on her goal and less on the side attractions that she could otherwise be enjoying. She's stuck in a cycle of despair that she wants to get out of as quickly as possible. This means she sometimes comes off as cruel and blunt, that her social interactions are less soft because she's done them so many times, and that she can get frustrated to the point of seeming like a hostile and mean person. Homura is even shown to try being cruel in one timeline in hopes of scaring Madoka away; she's ready to turn away her best friend's company if it means ending the cycle.

However, that part of Homura's personality is a result of the cycle and wanting to break it. Being in a game where things aren't repeated will help her unwind and become at least a few shades less stressed out. Some of her kindness will begin to shine through as she's played in-game.

But becoming kind "again" does not mean becoming Timeline 1 Homura Akemi. We've seen even as soon as timeline 2 that Homura has matured, and she continues to mature over the course of her canon. Even at the end of the Anime, when Homura's problems are all solved, she does not revert to being "Moemura". Rather, Homura becomes a kind and gentle person with some degree of social confidence. She is talking to strangers, she is making a Magical Girl Trio with Kyoko and Mami, and she is seen as the same focused and calm girl as before when on the skyscraper with Kyuubey. Homura does not go back to stuttering in conversation. She does not go back to being a meek person. So when Homura begins to unravel her focus and slow herself down again, she will not be turning back into the original timeline Homura.

In-game, Homura will eventually learn to slow down and make some friends. She is a very focused and driven person, but she is not heartless.

Homura Akemi | Puella Magi Madoka Magica| Not Reserved

[personal profile] rewindingly 2013-05-24 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Abilities/Powers:
To start, Homura is a magical girl. In the generic sense, this means that Homura is capable of magic; the drama CDs imply that a magical girl could do anything from increasing her speed to creating guns from scratch. In the non-generic sense, this means multiple things for Homura;
She is a Soul Gem: When Homura contracted with the adorable alien Kyuubey she immediately had her soul removed and put into a soul gem. Soul gems have three primary forms; a ring, an egg-shaped gem, and a decoration on the girl's magical girl costume. Homura's soul gem is purple and her decoration is a diamond-shaped decoration on her hand. Homura's soul gem allows her to transform into a magical girl and is the source of her magical powers. As she uses her magic the brilliant colour begins to slowly cloud over and darken, but she can clean it through the use of a grief seed. More on this later.

But as this bullet point alluded to, Homura's soul gem isn't just a transformation item. It literally is her soul in a gem form. Homura identifies herself as being the soul gem because that is where her soul resides. The body that she moves around is essentially a corpse that she remote controls. If Homura the Soul Gem is separated from Homura the Body then her body will 'die' and stop moving. As long as she gets back to it within four days she will be able to repair any decay, but after four days it will be beyond repair (though still moveable, as a PSP route has Sayaka walking around as a decaying corpse).
This is a mild handicap and generally worth the hassle. Homura's pain tolerance is significantly higher than that of a normal human's because she can block out the pain. And as long as her soul gem is in tact she can repair any damage done to her body with magic. The soul gem can be broken; Kyouko's soul gem is destroyed in an explosion in episode 9, and Mami's soul gem is shown breaking in the movie adaption. But it's a lot tougher than her body.

When separated from her body, Homura the Soul in a Gem is not capable of thought. This is evidenced by how Sayaka has no idea what happens after Madoka tosses her off a bridge. She cannot see, feel, hear, touch, taste, or think without her body. According to the Kazumi manga it is possible in theory for her to control another body, but as that was not explained in detail I will not be considering it.

Potential to Become a Witch: When Homura's soul gem darkens to a certain degree then she will begin to feel hopeless, depressed, and angsty. Her magic will begin to wither away. If she does not purify it with a grief seed (which, according to the FAQ, she will be able to find a few of around Haven? Please let me know if this still applies.) it will turn into a Grief Seed. After an incubation period, her Grief Seed will then hatch into a witch. Homura's witch form is called Homulilly. Not much is said about Homulilly in particular, but as a rule of thumb witches can attach physically or with magic. They also set up elaborate labyrinths to hide in.

Homulilly does have a witch's kiss, which means that she can affect other people with her angst and force them to act upon it. A permission's post would be put up for this. It would mean that characters could opt in to being driven by Homura's despair, and may cause self-harm or become homicidal (all of the witches in Anime induced suicide attempts in their victims, but Mami says they can cause random homicide as well). All of this is negated when Homulilly is killed, and the victims would only recall fuzzy details of what they were doing (The woman in episode 2 remembers jumping off of the roof, while Hitomi remembers nothing).

Witches can be killed by anything. Mami says only magical girls hunt witches, but since Homura canonly blows them up and shoots them down with regular weaponry I assume Mami meant that in the sense that only magical girls know to hunt witches. Humans can wander or be lured into witch's lair, but only a magical girl's soul gem can force it open. This may be another reason why Mami says only a magical girl can hunt them.

^ All of that would take a lot of pre-planning and is very unlikely, since Homura is a very stable person ^

Transformation: As previously stated, Homura's soul gem allows her to transform into a magical girl. Her magical girl self has an outfit that presumably increases her defenses, though it not otherwise explained why magical girls need to transform. Madoka uses magic without transforming in the drama CD and Kyouko is able to summon her weapon while untransformed with her soul gem in ring form. But Homura will generally be transforming for fights, for the protective value of her outfit. When transformed her soul gem attaches to her hand.

Hammerspace Shield: Because Homura's wish was to protect someone it manifests as a shield. Her shield is the complementary weapon that she gets from being a magical girl, just as Mami has a ribbon, Sayaka swords, Madoka a bow, and Kyouko a spear. Homura is not shown manipulating her weapon's form (as Kyouko and Mami do) and usually has it on her at all times when transformed. Her shield has hammerspace properties, allowing Homura to store a multitude of items in it at once. When she arrives in Haven it will have been emptied out, but she will begin refilling it ASAP. Due to the lack of guns laying around Haven she will be looking for different weapon choices, unless she can ICly acquire more weapons in a reasonable manner.

Time Stopping: The shield also allows Homura to stop time. It has an hourglass-type function. When Homura stops time the sand begins to drain and when it is out of sand then time restarts again, whether Homura wanted for it or not. Generally this gives her anywhere from twenty seconds to a minute of stopped time to work with, and it could be assumed that the time is shorter if she's been stopping time recently. She needs to spend some time in a normal time flow to 'recharge' the hourglass.

When time stops she can move as she pleases. Homura can operate machinery, fire guns, move objects, etc., though anything she throws or shoots will stop and hang mid-air until time flows normally again (as seen when she shot rockets at Walpurgisnacht). She can also include other people in the time stop, so long as she is touching them. She cannot decide mid-stop to include someone, which has its ups and downs. If Kyouko let her hand go in episode 9 then time would stop for Kyouko, for example, and Homura would have to start and stop again to fetch her. On the other hand, she is able to move Kyouko and Sayaka in episode 5 without either of them being aware of it.

Homura can also turn back time in canon, but that serves no point in-game. Homura can only turn time all of the way back to the start of her canon timeline which is impossible to do if not in Mitakihara City. She is never shown turning back 1 minute, 5 minutes, or even redoing a day when shit hits the fan, but is only shown turning back the entire timeline.

→ Ability to Interweb: Though it is not a super power, Homura has learned a lot from the internet. Specifically, she knows how to make bombs from scratch. She will likely begin looking for the 'ingredients' very soon after arriving in the game and construct some bombs for her personal use. She will also be using the library books to find other recipes for weapons, especially due to her hammerspace being emptied.

→ Magical Attacking: In her canon, Homura is not shown to have an offensive magical weapon (she has a shield). This is what drove her to learn to make bombs and to steal firearms to use in their place. She is, however, shown using her magic offensively. In episode 1 she is firing purple magic attacks at Kyuubey and they are implied to be lethal, as one hits Kyuubey and causes him to explode. It can be assumed that she didn't immediately do this as Moemura because she was not experienced and that she continued to use guns and bombs to avoid tainting her soul gem. However, in Haven she will not have the same access to guns as canon. Therefore, she will be putting more of an emphasis on her magical attacks. She can manipulate objects (she drives a truck straight into Walpurgisnacht) as well as fire shots of purple magic.

Unlike Mami, Homura will not be able to construct weapons from scratch with her magic.

Items/Weapons:
→ Her Soul Gem /her body ( creates her shield )
→ Machine Gun ( M249 SAW | 200 Rounds )
→ Hand Gun ( Beretta 92FS | 15 rounds )

Sample Entry: Tower of Animus entry
Sample Entry Two:
Her few conversations over the phone had led Homura to one particular place. Down the stairs and in front of the subway tunnel's entrance stood the dark haired magical girl. Homura stared into the darkness, the gears in her head silently turning. There were supposedly monsters in there. Monsters that came in mysterious swarms. They would be easy to dodge, she figured. Once the first one appeared she could stop time and bypass as many of them as possible. Then run until the hourglass refilled, stop time again, and hopefully pull ahead. If all went well then she would hardly need to worry about engaging in combat and would not need to waste any of her precious ammunition.

That part would be easy. Homura had no reason or room to doubt herself in that regard. She held out her hand, changing her soul gem from a ring on her finger to a legitimate gem, then melting that gem into her transformation sequence. Yes, this part would be easy. Her gaze darted to the shield that had materialize on her arm. As long as she had her magic and herself, everything would be fine.

These thoughts must have only been partially convincing, as Homura found herself lifting the cellphone issued by Haven closer to her face. There were a few familiar faces on the contacts list; people she had spoken to upon arrival, as well as the blue haired girl from home. Despite telling herself she could work on her own, Homura's heart felt a flicker of doubt. It might be risky to do this on her own. It was her first time going through the tunnels, after all. What if she messed up? It might be wise to ask someone to accompany her, someone with more experience.

"... That isn't necessary. They'll just hold you back. Don't be a fool, Homura Akemi." She whispered under her breathe, now tucking the phone into the hammerspace of her shield. She would not be needing it. Additional 'help' would be a hazard. They might not run as quickly in stopped time and she would have to worry about holding their hand. It would be a pain and a risk. The kind of risk Homura had been forced to learn not to make.
With her thoughts settled, Homura Akemi marched into the darkness. Alone. As she was best off.

[personal profile] mgronald 2013-05-24 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality:

Maou originates from the world of Entia Isle, where he ruled as the Demon Lord. Commanding a vast army of demons, his goal was stereotypical of any Demon Lord: conquering the world and enslaving the human race. His forces seemed unstoppable, until a Hero was found to oppose him. That Hero rallied the human race, slowly fighting back the demons until a final climactic battle with Maou himself. On the verge of defeat, Maou decided to exercise the only option left to him. He cast a spell to escape, fleeing to another world where he could bide his time and regain his power before returning to Entia Isle and conquering it once and for all.

At least, that was the plan.

Instead, Maou arrived in Tokyo, Japan... and far more importantly, a world without magic. As a result, his powers do not work properly and he is transformed into a human. Struggling to understand human culture, he uses the last of his powers to establish an identity for himself in the human world, and sets off trying to find a new way to regain his power. Of course, the demands of every day life in modern day Japan also require his attention, so he rents out a small appartment in a run down complex and gets an every day job at a fast food restaurant.

Most of this was a recap, but its a bit hard to explain his personality without first providing that. There is about a six month window between Maou's first arrival in the human world and when the story begins in earnest, and we're exposed to his new life and personality. The person we're introduced to is a hardworking and somewhat goofy young man, a model employee who soon goes from part-timer status to a full time employee (making the entire title of the anime/light novel series somewhat incorrect). He's completely enamored with Japanese culture, often lounging around and reading manga in his time off. At work, he is the perfect employee, incredibly hard working and attentive to the needs of all customers. He almost takes this to an absurd extreme, taking his job almost too seriously at times - when the deep fryer at his restaurant breaks down, he considers using the last of his magic powers (an incredibly precious resource to him) to fix it.

It's a rather extreme departure from the figure of a conquering Demon Lord we're first introduced to, proclaiming his revenge on the human race and nearly destroying them. Later on he rather lamely explained he never really understood humans back on Entia Isle, so his time as one of them has changed his perspective. It's a bit unclear if his personality was always the way it is in the series, as other characters often comment on how much he's changed. By the end of the first arc of the series, he becomes a heroic figure willing to use his power to save human lives, even confronting and stopping one of his former minions. Obviously, the argument is that his time in Japan has completely reformed him, but it's admittedly a drastic departure that's a bit hard to reconcile with the role he played on Entia Isle - a fact that other characters even recognize and question.

Of course, his ambitions as a Demon Lord never leave him, even as a human. His goal is still world domination, he's simply chosen a new path to achieving it. He works so hard at his job because he intends to climb the corporate ladder, eventually rising to the top so he can attain a position through which he'll be able to conquer the world. Obviously, his ambitions are a little strange and unrealistic, but hey... it's not the most realistic series in the world. But even these rather strange goals help to show that even through his rather goofy demeanor and childish antics, there is still a hint of malice to him. When another character confronts him and asks him to swear he'll remain in the human world, living peacefully and abandoning his dream of conquering Entia Isle, he proudly proclaims that he still plans to one day return and resume where he left off.

It's difficult to really place what his end goal is, just because his actions and words often contradict one another. He still claims he wants to enslave humans, yet at the same time goes out of his way to save them at his own expense - when he regains enough power to return to Entia Isle as he initially wanted to, he instead uses that power to restore the damage done to a metropolitan area that he damaged in his fight with another demon. It can be surmised that he remains a bit conflicted, still clinging to his past demon nature while also beginning to embrace a side of him he was never allowed to before becoming a human. As a result, he'll often say things he doesn't really mean, while his actions almost always reflect his new more altruistic nature.

Abilities/Powers:

Maou's powers are a bit nebulous and ill-defined because most of the time they aren't available to him. While in the human world, he at first has no way to regain the demonic power that he needs to sustain his true form or magic. Eventually, he learns that he can feed upon the negative emotions of humans to fuel himself; at one point he absorbs energy from a terrified crowd of humans to return to his demonic form for a limited period of time.

As a Demon Lord, he demonstrates a great deal of power, as one might expect from someone carrying that title. His true form is a huge, hulking monster with goat hooves and horns. While in Entia Isle, he's shown to also have wings, though he never assumes that complete form while in the human world. He can regenerate from very serious wounds in second: while in his human form, he chest is literally blown out and his legs are shot through with magical blasts. But upon returning to demon form, he heals from his wounds almost instantly and shows no visible sign of still being injured. He's able to fly and use some form of telekinesis, as he manages to hold up a huge bridge as it collapses. He's also capable of large energy blasts and creating magical sigils that boost his physical attacks.

Beyond his offensive powers, he's also shown to have a wide range of magical abilities. When he first arrives in the human world, he uses his powers to hypnotize and compel numerous humans in order to obtain what he needs. He can also rewrite people's memories, as he makes all the people who saw his demonic form forget what they saw completely. He offers to wipe another character's memories, so that they can forget the "unpleasant" things they've seen due to their association with him. He can also create a boundary field of sorts, more or less transporting an area into a pocket universe so their attacks and actions do not damage the real world. Finally, he's shown to be able to teleport. In conclusion, dude has a lot of powers.

So in order to limit them, while in Haven he'll have the same restriction that he does in the human world, meaning he can't use these powers without feeding on negative emotions from other people around him. Admittedly, given the nature of Haven's setting, that might not actually be that hard to do, but either way...

Items/Weapons:

His Demon Lord cape (which, despite looking impressive, does not have any actual powers), and his bicycle, Dullahan (which also, despite being a practical mode of transportation to his job, lacks any actual powers.

Sample Entry:

Hm... where am I now? I have a shift in a few hours... If I'm late, the manager's going to be pissed at me. [ he sighs, scratching the back of his head as he glances around. despite the apparently(?) serious nature of his situation, he admittedly doesn't seem to phased. the first time he ended up in another world was weird... now it seems kind of commonplace. ]

This isn't Earth anymore, is it? Or if it is, it's definitely not Tokyo... [ he squints, looking rather suspiciously at his surroundings, clearly not liking the look of them at all. ] This place is in need of some serious... what was it called again? "Urban renewal," that's it!

[ he seems quite proud of himself for remembering a difficult phrase before his expression suddenly shifts to one of shock, a dire realization finally coming upon him. ]

Ah! I just realized! I'm going to lose my perfect attendance record! [ okay, now things are serious. ] Whoever you are, you'd better send me back right away! Do you know how hard I've been working to keep that record going!? I'm the assistant manager now, the assistant manager! If I'm not there, we're going to lose to Sentucky Fried Chicken for sure! [ that is a true threat worthy of his scorn. ]

Sample Entry Two:

In Entia Isle, as Maou Satan he had always been feared and respected. A force of evil with no equal who had been able to unite and organize legions of demons into a powerful army capable of taking over more than half the world. He had never needed much of a reason for doing any of that... he had simply been playing his role as the Demon Lord, doing what had been expected of him. By their very nature, demons hated humans, and humans hated demons. It was only natural that they would come into conflict.

But on Earth, he'd taken the name of Maou Sadao and become one of them. It had been tough at first, trying to figure out how the human world worked and getting adjusted to everything around him. He'd taken countless part time jobs, getting fired from all of them until he'd eventually learned the skills he needed to succeed. And once he had those skills at his disposal, he'd wielded them effectively to secure himself a full time position at a respectable establishment. Ah, MgRonald really was his dream workplace. He knew that fast food had questionable nutritional value, but the place had still offered some measure of salvation to him, and so he would always be thankful to it.

Which is why it was so important that he return to it.

"This place doesn't even have fast food..." he grumbled to himself as he glances around his rather desolate surroundings. How was that possible? How could humans gather and congregate, but not create a place for procuring tasty food in an expedient manner? It made no sense to him... he figured that would be the first thing the people here would have done, but instead they just complained about how terrible this place was and tried to find a way out.

Okay, admittedly, he wanted a way out too, but he was pretty sure that would happen sooner or later. If Ashiya was here, he would have tasked him with finding it, but his trusty general was absent. So instead, things fell to him.

"This is it," Maou decided as he stood in front of an abandoned building, crossing his arms and nodding to himself. "This will be where I begin my plan of conquering all of Haven!"

It was pretty much the first abandoned building he'd found, but it'd do. Now he just needed to find a way to make a MgRonald sign... wait, would he be allowed to do that? Wouldn't there be a franchising fee? Hm... maybe this wasn't as well thought out an idea as he'd thought. As far as he was aware, there were no MgRonald in this world, but if there were they would definitely come after him for starting a location without their approval...

"Ah, of course!" he realized, snapping his fingers, proud of his newest stroke of genius. If he just called it something different, no one could possibly object. It could essentially be the same location, but he would be free from the threat of legal action as long as the name was slightly different. But what would he call it then? It still had to be something catchy and familiar, but different enough that no one would object.

"I'll call it... McDonald."

Yep, that definitely wouldn't get him into any trouble.

Character Name: Minato Arisato
Canon: Persona 3/Persona 3 FES
Canon Point: Post-game [After his death, to be specific]
Background/History: Persona 3 in general || Minato-specific history
Personality:

Minato on his own doesn’t make much of a wave. When left to his own devices, he gravitates towards simple and individualistic activities such as eating or sleeping while sometimes opting to sing at the karaoke or drink coffee by himself at a cafe, unfazed by societal notions that these activities are better done with someone else. Prompt him for opinions and the most likely answers you’ll get lean towards ‘Whatever’ and ‘Anything’, all things that may lead one to shake their head and declare Minato a lost cause after leaving him to listen to his music.

Though that forms the basis of Minato’s personality, it is far from a reflection of who he really is. Consider his lack of an opinion and judgement: Minato gets on well with anyone from an elementary school student to a disillusioned monk because he’s more interested in their situations than airing out his thoughts, presented in-game as ranging from being tactless to being silently approving, even trusting. One example of this can be seen when Minato tells a teammate to suck it up when it comes to his injury; while the rest of us would immediately scold this teammate or tell him to get some rest, it is implicit in Minato’s words that he trusts his teammate to do the right thing and encourage him to do what he likes until he decides it’s time to change.

Because Minato doesn’t let first impressions get to him, he ends up appraising all the aspects of a person from their personality to their quirks, quietly filing these tidbits away in some odd corner of his mind, possibly brooding on them before he meets that person again. This attention to detail proves to be useful as he can then offer insights into a personal issue when the person he’s speaking to might not even catch on to how he knows this, quite forgetting that they were talking about it before. His simple-mindedness also tells him something that should be obvious to many but is frequently clouded by negativity and the opinions of society: People want to be happy, people want to improve, people get frustrated but they can fix themselves given time and encouragement. That’s why he can say things will be alright without seeming two-faced, he genuinely believes that people can change for the better and work out their issues if there’s someone to support them.

To that end, Minato is curiously and almost uncharacteristically calm for a guy who’s tossed headlong into a crazy reality where Shadows feast on people’s minds and the only way to defeat them is to summon a Persona. He’s also very good at keeping cool and thinking on his feet, adjusting to plans and adapts as things change. It’s not that he lacks fear, it’s just that he’s aware that panicking now does no one any good and that someone needs to be the voice of reason so that the mission can proceed smoothly. Outside of battle, Minato uses his level-headedness to quietly persuade people to look past their fears and help them realize that they’re not as bad or out of luck as they think themselves to be: I’m here and I think you’ve got this down.

But then the question arises as to why Minato even spends time with people of all kinds, considering the disinterest he shows in most things. Being moved from relative to relative and lacking parents likely meant that Minato lacked a true sense of attachment and people telling him what to do with his life, so the same strengths that make Minato unique also serve as a weakness, like two sides of the same coin. He thinks nothing about putting others before himself since they have a goal while he doesn’t have one, he puts his life on the line because other people have someone they’re important to, and while Minato knows he’s part of the team and also a friend it hardly crosses his mind to say anything about it other than that he doesn’t mind what happens to him so long as people are happy.

These bonds that develop over the year mean that while Minato rarely looks down or loses his cool, there are some rare situations in which he will be firm and and stand his ground because he dislikes seeing the people he cares for being mocked or threatened. One good example of this can be seen when Shinjiro dies and a group of students talk poorly of him during a wake: ‘Shut up’ is one of the responses he can give which fits best with what his fellow teammates think especially as they were once saved by him and only they knew the truth behind his death. Likewise, some of his interactions have him staring down creeps or defending people because he won’t have people harmed where he’s watching.

Of course, Minato’s life isn’t always about sacrifice and being the yes man to everyone. It’s clear that Minato also gains a lot from his bonds as he’s at a time in life when people start to find their roots and yearn to have a dream, only that his dream consists of one where people other than him can be happy whether he knows them or not and he’s probably had some amusement while hanging out with the people he knows. Idealism aside, Minato also dreams of such small comforts as ramen, hamburgers, takoyaki and all the food he’s come to love since returning to his hometown, so much that he can eat seven meals before becoming uncomfortable and even impressed a self-proclaimed food gourmet. When he’s not listening to music he sometimes settles for sleeping in if he’s not meeting someone just because he likes it, so much that he’ll quietly doze off in class sometimes not just to make up for lost sleep but also because he’s already well-prepared for tests, evidenced by a motto pasted in his room that says to ‘Do things five minutes early’ and also that his fellow classmates Yukari and Junpei are nearly always fretting whenever exams come by.

Nor is he always unflappable and stoic as he does seem surprised when he brings Elizabeth out (Though to be fair, you don’t always see grown-up women challenging escalators), he gets frustrated when he’s forced to work on his worst subject and he is genuinely scared for his life after narrowly avoiding being caught by the girls in a hot spring, so much that his teammates actually comment that he seems nervous even after they return to the dorm because few things are as immediately disconcerting as knowing that death lives in your dorm and wears high heels.

At the end of the journey, Minato rejects the offer of a peaceful death for everyone including himself because he’s finally found the meaning of his life and he has seen enough of the world to believe that it’s worth a try, worth saving, worth putting his life up for. To do this not only required courage as he was involving many others, he needed to have the utmost faith not only in himself but also in everyone he’s befriended and all of them really do return the same goodwill he’s shown to them. Though this faith did save the world, it carried a price as Minato had to sacrifice his life to protect the world he loved and his most precious friends forgot the bonds they shared with him during the Dark Hour until it was too late for them as he fell asleep soon after they remembered and died the next day.

But it wasn’t for him. The simple boy who was forgotten in the hustle and bustle of life knew his friends would remember their promise even if their memories were forgotten because the bonds people make can overcome any challenge, and while many would shake their heads and speak of Minato as if he didn’t have a future, there are those who know that the true heroes are the ones who willingly sacrifice their future so that everyone can have one even if they will never be recorded in history as someone who mattered.

Abilities/Powers: Wild Card- Unlike the other Persona-users in Persona 3, Minato can switch freely between Personas and he can use up to twelve at once.. This has its advantages and disadvantages as Minato’s resistances, movesets and weaknesses will change accordingly so switching to the wrong Persona could prove fatal to him.

So then, what are Personas? Though we understand them as a mask one presents to the outer world, a Persona here is a manifestation of one’s psyche and it’s also the only way to properly defeat a Shadow; think of a Persona as an awakened Shadow as each Persona user has awoken to theirs after a specific event in their lives and their Persona evolves after making a new resolution and choosing to face their fears.

Weapon mastery- While Minato is not an expert in using any weapon, he’s proficient enough in most weapons to do the job. Specifically, he has enough aptitude to use one-handed swords, bows, spears and knuckles though canon implies that he’s best suited for one-handed swords and the PSP version of the game limits him to one-handed swords.

Items/Weapons: 1) Evoker
2) Headphones
3) MP3 player

[It’s practically the understatement of the year as Minato looks around once again like he expects a vendor to magically appear and sell him something; for some reason he doesn’t seem to think that the ruins of the food stores directly behind him are any indication that he's out of luck, he should look elsewhere or he's simply in some freakish survival horror nightmare. Or perhaps he understands that because he’s now looking back at his audience with serious intent.]

Though the stores are empty, there must be some food left and people do need food to survive. [Minato pauses thoughtfully, looking down just for a while before raising his head again] Would you be interested to trade? I won’t ask for much, a meal would do for now and I’ll repay the favour as soon as I can. [Minato smiles then; it seems sincere and and honest but that look is quickly replaced by one of surprise when he hears his stomach rumbling. He almost looks sheepish when it subsides.]

I’m Arisato Minato, it’s nice to meet you. [He’s smiling again but this one seems different though no less genuine, it seems almost...sad] I hope you’ll excuse the interruption, I haven’t eaten in a long time.

Sample Entry Two: He was tired.

What once came to Minato occasionally now made frequent visits to him, dropping by whenever it pleased whether he was in class or outside, its voice becoming increasingly persistent and yet pleasant as time passed by and he found himself going back to the dorm because he could barely see where he was going without yawning. He could hear just as well as he used to though, and opening the doors of the dorm that housed both S.E.E.S and the Nyx Liberation Team told him volumes in its accompanying creak and silence that indicated absence.

He was used to both the exhaustion and silence by now, two constant reminders that all things would end and that he should already have been dead, with only a promise to meet his friends and recovering their memories keeping him alive for that day, living for that day. Though Minato acknowledged that this was the path he chose for himself while knowing the consequences, he could not help but look wistfully at the empty couches and think of the people who used to sit there while doing everything from just talking to having playful fights with one another, reduced to casual acquaintances now that they forgot what they had in common besides attending the same school.

Another yawn came by as Minato realized that even standing up for too long was beginning to tire him and he walked to his room not with anger or with sorrow, but with gratefulness that he even had a chance to see his friends again as he had been sure the seal had consumed all of his life. That he couldn’t tell anyone that he never lost his memories or that he spent almost all his time sleeping now mattered little because he had found the answer he had been seeking for and he would never forget the lessons he took before learning it, even if that answer meant collapsing onto the bed and falling asleep almost immediately.

Minato remembered, and that was all that meant anything for that moment.

Character Name: Playable Caster - Real name (highlight): [ Tamamo-no-Mae ]

Canon: Fate/Extra
Canon Point: Post Endgame
Background/History:
Image
Fate/Extra video game Fansite Wiki
Playable Caster Character Fansite Wiki
Servant Identity Wiki

Specifically in the Fate/Extra setting, the origins of Tamamo-no-Mae come from a facet of the Goddess Amaterasu. Her extreme fascination for humanity and humanity’s ability to embrace such happiness and positivity when given such a "meager existence" (when compared to a goddess's life span, at least) prompts her to lose her immortality, be born as a human while forgetting about her being a goddess in the first place. She wants to serve someone in the same way humans worship and serve her, so she becomes a courtesan for the Emperor, until a seer comes to the court to point out she's a fox spirit. Tamamo's divinity was beginning to show as well, waking up one morning with a tail and fox ears; a reminder that she isn't from the human world originally. She flees but is eventually caught and slain.
Personality:
For the most part Caster is a playful and cheerful person. She likes to keep a light-hearted, never-serious manner when she is around others. This extends moreso in that she strives to have people she cares about worry-free in her presence. She is energetic, perky, animated, often speaks with body language to aid in communication. She deigns herself as the one in charge of setting the mood and doesn’t hesitate to reset current emotions if they are less than ideal.

At first glance one might say this girl is super flighty and going in a million directions at the same time. Her obvious jubilance for life and living in the moment gives off a lackadaisical aura, even when the situation around her is quite serious and dire. Often her Master comments how it’s impressive that Caster can keep her zeal with so many new and different things happening all around her. She can seem very fickle at times, but really whenever there is something new for her to stick her nose into, she will take the opportunity to do just that. Of course Caster can take things very seriously, like really important tasks that require her utmost concentration to succeed throughout her career as a Servant. It’s usually such a stark contrast to her otherwise carefree behavior that her Master has mentioned it several times.

Despite how air-headed Caster can act, there is a refined grace about her. Rather there can be a refined grace about her. She can be flailing in literal embarrassment in one moment but acting and speaking with perfect practiced etiquette the next. Her movements can be artistic, like when she is writing calligraphy or performing tea ceremonies to nigh perfection, and she can demonstrate body language as if she came from a historic Japanese period drama.

While Caster normally keeps a happy and cheery missive, her personality can change on the dime. Her mouth is testament to this. She can go from singing the highest praises to cursing (sometimes literally…) and condemning the very same person on the very same breath even. Unrestrained is the best way to describe what comes out of Caster’s mouth: she will say virtually anything that comes to mind. Caster was renowned for her wits and sagely advice, but she is also feared for her sharp, venomous tongue. She can be incredibly territorial, to the point of even being overtly aggressive over things or people she cares very much about. For example, she openly exclaims her affections for her Master and wants her Master to only have eyes on Caster, and she usually includes a very big threat with an “or else” clause.

She talks freely and liberally about her feelings over people, or things on when she is pleased with them, or when she is unhappy with them and their actions. Because of this it’s usually fairly easy to read what type of mood Caster is in. She wears her heart on her sleeve (or in this case it’s spewing out of her mouth…) so while her emotions can change rapidly from being so happy she is literally bouncing with glee, in an instant she can become so angry that her glare are the sharpest of daggers.

Caster is a very honest person, but she doesn't like to talk about herself or have the conversation linger around her past. She uses her zeal and her unpredictability to get into anyone’s business as long as it’s not hers. It’s quite easy for her to turn away probing questions about herself and refocus the conversation on anyone or anything that isn’t her. Several times she initially dodges her Master’s requests to know more about the Servant, because she would then have to explain to her Master the tragic and woe-filled past of her mortal life. In truth, she would very much like to not have to have this conversation with her Master, but for those she considers very near and dear to her heart, she would oblige and open up. Later in the game after much trust has been built with the Servant, Caster finally opens up to her Master about her history and her identity. However when Caster goes over the accounts of her past mortal life and how woe-ridden, tragic and just in general sad it was, Caster severely downplays the severity and emotional shock she suffered, mentioning how it was more annoying than tragic. For example when she was on the verge of death, she mentions how she physically felt uncomfortable being cramped or trapped and sounded more annoyed over that then actually dying.

Caster is no stranger to trauma. But crying, genuine sadness and empathy on her past life is something taboo for Caster, as it would evoke really painful memories all over again. In fact one could strongly argue that her pep and jubilance is just a very strong mask to cope with how terrible her past has been. She doesn't ever want to dwell on those feelings, going so far in such that many of her Servant skills which are rightly powerful in nature are often underutilized or never used, because of its association to her past memories. Though she may run from her past, she doesn't run from very important matters to be tended to in the present, nor does she ever let anyone including her Master down.

Caster loves to serve humans. She mentions her absolute fascination with humanity, and it brings her joy to serve, and an even greater joy when she becomes an important part of someone’s life. In the past she became so intrigued with humanity’s devotion and passion that it actually led to the start of her downfall. Caster however was happy; she had the chance to serve, and to enjoy the feelings of being loved from a significant other, rather than the love from for example a worshipper to a God. Despite her willingness to serve however she wants to devote herself to people with beautiful, ambitious souls, who ultimately have good intentions and act to do just that.

Caster had been used as a Servant before—actually, many times, before the events of Fate/Extra. She was the Servant of Twice on the Moon Cell. The two however were weak; certainly not as strong as they are now, and because of that Twice lost many battles. Due to plot circumstances Twice was able to continue with Caster. They grew stronger, but still Twice failed. Twice finally succeeded and became the victor of the Holy Grail War, however that was only after he discarded Caster as his Servant and picked up another one. Caster was discarded after so many failures, and it had a tremendously negative impact on her. Rejection and a lack of desire are some of Caster’s larger fears, which may explain further why Caster is so eager and so positive, so people like her. Caster’s relationship with her current Master possibly started off as of one that wanted to not be discarded, like Twice did to Caster. However as the game progressed she noticed many differences between Twice and her current Master, noticing all of the gentle and good-natured will among many other qualities in so much that she actually falls in love with Master.

Character Name: Gaius
Canon: Fire Emblem: Awakening
Canon Point: Post Chapter 26, Grima
Background/History: wiki magic
Personality:
If you ever wanted to torture somebody like Gaius, all you’d have to do is chain him up nice and tight with a treasure trove of sweets plainly visible, but just out of reach. Oh and throw a few creepy crawly bugs on him, for added fun! Because even though certain bugs are attracted to sugar and Gaius loves sugar, he hates bugs. They’re totally gross. No equal opportunity here. Like, he’ll spend as much time as he needs to track a single bee back to its hive if he’s craving honey bad enough. Bees don’t need honey. Come on. But really, if all the confections in the world suddenly vanished and there was no way to reproduce them, Gaius would likely drop dead, considering his main food group is sugar (shhh it’s a food group now) and the withdrawal, man. He has special pockets sewn into his clothing for the sole purpose of stashing candy. He can tell a good cake from a bad one at fifty paces. He pays attention to things like dough and filling colors (sometimes they complement each other!!! and that’s super cool!!), as well as textures. He has a separate stash of goods that only he knows the location of- that’s where he keeps all of his delicacies and unique finds (though when Henry expresses an interest in Gaius’ haul, Gaius is so tickled he does deign to show Henry what he’s got- show, not share, mind). He also has a habit of using sweets-related puns…bet you didn’t see that coming.

Hell, it was candy that got him on board with Chrom and the Shepherds- Chrom just so happened to drop a satchel of candies in front of Gaius and Gaius told him he’d join up if there was more where that came from in the near future (a...sweet deal HURRRR). Which is not to say Gaius is a one-note piper, of course. Sure, his love affair with sugary treats is the stuff of legend, but it isn’t all that defines him. Prior to his recruitment, he was a thief (a profession he eventually returns to), and when he first encountered the Shepherds, he’d been hired by the enemy to aid in an assassination attempt on Ylisse’s Exalt, Emmeryn- Chrom’s sister – under the pretense of breaking into the treasury. Once Gaius learned the true purpose of his role there, he wanted nothing to do with the entire scheme and willingly chose to throw his weight in with the Shepherds for the duration of the campaign.

For all that his profession isn’t what many would consider noble, he possesses a strong moral compass despite that. Thievery is a way to eke out a living. Yes, he’ll kill when he has to, but he isn’t an assassin for hire who will off anyone if the price is right. That sort of business doesn’t sit well with him at all, and in the cases when the lives of other people get tangled up in his affairs, he doesn’t take it the best. A good example of this is shown in his supports with Maribelle- in the past, he was told to break into the royal treasury and implicate her father for the crime or Maribelle, a girl he’d never met before, would be killed. Rather than let an innocent girl lose her life, Gaius chose to follow through on the job. Wracked with guilt, he sent a letter once he’d gotten away that ultimately spared Maribelle’s father from the headsman. He still held on to the guilt for a long time afterward, and needed to atone in whatever way he could. Again, he isn’t out to hurt anybody, he just wants to get by.

And getting by is a little tougher when you move in the circles Gaius moves in. He’s used to a world where nothing is given for free- there’s always a catch. So he’s hesitant to accept that somebody may want to do something nice and expect nothing in return- even though he does nice things himself all the time. For example, it’s revealed during his supports with the male My Unit character that Gaius has a tattoo on his forearm that marks him as a convicted criminal (earned when he did a favor for a friend and was caught), but he always keeps it covered because he doesn’t want the Shepherds to know about it and look at him differently. My Unit walks in on him in the baths and sees the tattoo, and Gaius immediately jumps to the conclusion that he’s going to blackmail him despite My Unit’s insistence of the contrary. Gaius then goes on to concoct elaborate schemes to pay him for his silence, and My Unit grows increasingly frustrated. YOU KNOW WHAT THEY SAY ABOUT OLD HABITS DYING HARD AND ALL THAT.

Buuuut the good thing is, Gaius is very receptive of criticism- unless you knock his sweets or you lament your station in life if you’re not common born (luckily for Chrom, Gaius doesn’t stay angry or annoyed very long at all). It may take some cajoling, but he'll come around. As shown in his supports with Cordelia, he has a somewhat cavalier attitude toward his own personal hygiene and overall appearance, which does eventually change once she whips him into shape; however, it took a while to get him to that point. Like, washing his hair regularly isn’t high on his list of priorities. Nor is laundering his oft-stained clothes (he may wear the same outfit for days and think nothing of it). Once Cordelia points out that Gaius is representing Chrom, he makes more of an effort to at least look decent. Another example comes from his supports with Libra. Gaius isn't big on prayer at first, and when he actually does it, he does it outrageously (by more or less telling the gods to give him all their sweets), much to Libra's horror. But then he has a close scrape in a battle and rethinks his flippancy; it might not be such a bad idea to pray for safety and be respectful about it. Religion still confuses him, though, and opens up a lot of crazy moral questions he'd rather not think about. But whatever. Point is, Gaius is more than willing to better himself.

Other things! Gaius tends to bestow ridiculous nicknames to people he talks to. He generally has a calm, clear head--except for when he doesn't. He's got a rakish, roguish sort of charm that endears him to people despite his faults. He's very skilled with his hands--he can make jewelry! And he's good at housework and baking. He maintains a market stall where he sells odds and ends and things he's made because he enjoys the hustle and bustle of the market environment. Stealing candy from babies is not as easy as it looks (and it'd make him feel bad).

Stealing his comrades' desserts while they're voting on who is the nicest looking girl in the Shepherds, however...well, that's a different story.

Gaius | Fire Emblem: Awakening | Reserved

[personal profile] kidouche 2013-05-24 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Abilities/Powers: Fire Emblem operates on a class system of base and advanced classes. Each class has its own unique abilities that can be learned with experience. In game, we’ll assume Gaius started out as a Thief for his base class (this is always his base class) and then promoted to an Assassin. In this class, he can wield a sword as well as a bow, which makes him a good ranged fighter. He has the following skills:

Locktouch- Allows the unit to open doors and chests without keys.
Movement +1 Grants movement +1
Lethality- Fell an enemy in one hit. Trigger %=(Skill stat divided by 4)
Pass- Allows the unit to pass through spaces occupied by enemies

Items/Weapons: His current outfit, a huge sack of sweets and a Killing Edge (sword).

Sample Entry:

Crivens...

[rustling sounds. Gaius is digging around in his sack and then his pockets.]

Two sweet bean confections from Valm, one marzipan wyvern, a handful of Ylissean sugar drops, six petit fours. [pause] No, five petite fours. A braided lollipop, cherry-flavored. Junior's--

[pardon the flurry of swearing please!!!]

How did that noxious hellcake wind up in here? Ugh. It better not have contaiminated the goods... [aaaand back to the inventory check]

Four golden honey buns, sixteen individually wrapped toffee clusters, and a macaroon.

Not enough. This'll barely last two days. Where would a guy go to find some quality sweets around here?

Sample Entry Two:

Sometimes, he wondered what his life would’ve been like if he’d never reached into some unsuspecting lady’s pocket and pulled out a brightly wrapped piece of hard candy when he was four years old. His very first theft. His very first introduction to the kind of euphoria that only sugar can bring. That one tiny piece of candy—later, he discovered, once his palate had matured, that it wasn’t even good candy—sparked a life-long obsession and more or less chose his job for him.

Thieving and Gaius took to one another quite affably. He had the knack, the fleet-footed grace and light touch that separated good thieves from bad ones—any lowbrow street urchin could try his (or her) hand at nicking purses, but the best they usually managed was a cuffed ear or a night in the clink for their trouble. Not that he could blame them for giving it a go. Still, he garnered a bit of a reputation—hard earned—and the work kept coming in, which meant he never wanted for sweets. Which meant life was pretty damn good and he didn’t have a whole lot to complain about outside of the usual lower-class woes.

And then he got caught, doing a favor for a friend. Was given the extra-special tattoo that threw his lot in with convicted criminals. He took to wearing a handkerchief over his arm because the brand annoyed him—and, truth be told, he didn’t like the idea of being in the same class as murders and rapists. Didn’t sit right in his stomach, felt more like a huge old lump of grossness. And the tattoo wasn’t the only blunder. There would be more, some of them a whole lot bigger than getting caught and marked up. Some of them involving the lives of innocent people- like that girl, Maribelle…a woman now, who had thought the absolute worst of him because all she saw was the absolute worst of him at the time; and like Emmeryn, Ylisse’s Exalt. He never wished her any harm, and that’s what he was supposed to help bring right to her door (but he didn’t know when he accepted the job, he didn’t know).

That’s when he’d really sit and wonder about his choices, and think, hey, where would I be if I’d never stolen that stupid candy? The best time to think about these things was while he was idly sucking on a lollipop—best, because the sweetness on his tongue, down his throat, would make everything so much clearer. Yeah, he’d done some boneheaded things and he’d be dealing with the consequences for a while, but at the end of the day, thieving had brought him here, with these people—the Shepherds. And try as he might (he didn’t try very hard), he couldn’t regret that.

In a way, that candy had saved him. Not too shabby, not too shabby at all.

Tetsuya Kuroko | Kuroko no Basket | Reserved| 1/3

[personal profile] misdiscretion 2013-05-29 05:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Name: Chio
Contact Info: Plurk : Chiricho
Other Characters Played: none at the moment.
Preferred Apartment: #5.002
Character Name: Tetsuya Kuroko
Canon: Kuroko no Basket
Canon Point: Before the final round of Winter cup/ chapter 203
Background/History: Here

Personality:

Kuroko is well-known being the “sixth man” of Teikou’s Generation of Miracles, the said to be strongest Basketball team at the period. He is overall a very polite guy—always talks in a formal way and lower tone. He even once said he can’t yell, so he had to use megaphone when he took Seirin’s Basketball club test that required them to shout out their goal in front of Seirin's school mass.

Kuroko declared firmly that he joined Seirin’s Basketball club out of his goal to beat every of Generation of Miracles—the team he used to play with, and he promised that he would make Kagami Taiga—a fellow new member of Seirin Basketball club who came from America--to be the strongest in Japan to do that. Thus he pledged to Kagami he would take a role as his shadow.

That is the short brief of Kuroko’s introduction. Of course, he is not a bland character that popped out of nowhere, boasting that he will be someone’s shadow and make him the strongest in Japan to beat the current strongest ones without a worthy reason. It’s all there in packages of memories, ambition, and personal emotion in his inner self, every reason of why he would decide so.

First, let start off from how people will usually encounter Kuroko. It’s almost in high percent that people would react hysterically surprised, because he is usually lacking of presence that people would probably not notice when he is around...until he finally said a word, and voila! It is our daily running gag that someone usually ask how long he has been there and Kuroko would answer to that “I’ve been here from the beginning”. This is actually not entirely his weakness. In fact, his well-known “Misdirection” Skill that made him able to stand on the same field with the Generation of Miracles came from this lack of presence.

Second is, his small, fragile, weakling alike appearance would made people around doubt whether he is someone to depends on. But they might be technically right since he is in fact is not really athletic, nor has a well-built body. Also aside of basic techniques in basketball which he often fails at, he doesn't really have any special technique to impress, unlike others whom managed to come up being addressed as “talented”. However, Kuroko is not stupid at all. In any term of battle, (In this case it’s often at Basketball) he won't likely become panic when the situation put him in pinch. Instead, with his calm demeanor he’d usually come up with strength in strategy and tactical plan over raw power, that is beyond decent in order to provide a counter attack. And since he is a cool headed person plus good observer, he always manage to read other person’s tendency, thus afterward, he could come up with a worthy secret plan. And they usually work especially for his team. That doesn’t mean his plans are invincible. There were also times when his plans being broken easily even if Kuroko actually already pushed his entire might and potential to build it.

Kuroko started his actual Basketball club activity on junior high. He was driven into it because he wanted to compete his best friend at a league. They made promise that they will, someday. He was pretty ambitious for this that he tried really hard to be in the prime team as a regular player on the hardest and most tight competition in Teikou’s Basketball club. Kuroko is not the type that easily will give up, though. He is an hardworker. And that is shown earlier even at his first time in the club. He stayed longer than other members only to have an extra practice. He is also a bit individualist that it is rare to find him actually ask for help, unless it’s for teamwork strategy. Perhaps it is because he is a really calm and quiet person, that he is not easily attached to others. That concludes Kuroko as an independent individual. This also applies to how he looked totally composed and fine even after he almost got rejected from Teikou, but when he was left alone, he was broken in tears of despair.

Kuroko is known most being in such personality : cool, quiet, tranquil, rarely express himself, contented, independent, and tends to have similar flat tone when speaking. Even through his Junior high until he reached senior high, he remained that way. This implies Kuroko as probably a quite hardest person to get close to or even to befriend to. He is not an antisocial, though. He is able to adapt with people but he has to filter among them who are the ones allowed to enter his circle. This is proved by how he got along well with the Generation of Miracles. He even already got attached to few among their members. Daiki Aomine is the prime example, as he influenced Kuroko a lot. Kuroko also showed his emotion utmost when he had to face Aomine, mainly because his ambitious side to beat every of Generation of Miracle, which he felt had no righteousness in their basketball thus he wanted to fix it. The truth is, the crucial part that he wants to fix at the most is Aomine’s attitude change toward Basketball. To Kuroko, Aomine isn’t the same as he used to be when they are best mates, as he was always smiling everytime he plays Basketball but he never do that again. This emotion driven him strongly that even the Seirin team realized, Kuroko was less composed upon facing Aomine’s team.

At daily life with Seirin, Kuroko often act as a a meddling when everyone else is in their hot temper. Or, more likely being the only sane man at the similar situation as such. As kuroko is an observant and critical thinker, he leans toward rational thought over emotion. Thus, he’d always manage to calm down anyone when they’re about to break hell loose. This talent of him got recognized by Seirin’s coach, Riko. She has been using Kuroko often since, in purpose to calm down the team (especially Kagami) whenever they’re in tension, or when they’re in breakdown. Though, even Kuroko himself has his limit. There were some occasions where he was the one instead who fell into a breakdown, and Kagami was the one who brought him back. Much reversed from their usual played role.

Kuroko also able to show his furious side; this shown when he found out the dirty tricks from one of their opponent team, Kirisaki Daiichi. They--especially Makoto Hanamiya, always cheat on their game and Kuroko wasn’t able to accept that, as he loves Basketball from his heart and he always believes that the true happiness of achievement come after you’ve won something from the effort and hard work you gave at the thing you love from the bottom of your heart. This is also what made him fought at his total potential upon Murasakibara, one of Generation of Miracles whom believed that even if you love something and put a lot of effort at it, if you’re not talented and always remain being a loser, there is no meaning at it. They obviously would clash when they bring out their ideals together.

Being all rationalist, cool, and contented doesn’t mean Kuroko would always be tense and all serious business. Sometimes he could pick up some joke or even troll just like when he forced Kagami to pat a puppy found by Seirin's team members albeit Kagami has phobia to dogs. His lack of presence and reaction caused by people whom afterward finally noticed him is obviously the remarkable running gag and laughable situational comedy, along with his sarcastic comment which is often thrown at the right timing so it could tickle. Shortly, he is a professional deadpan snarker.

Abilities :

Despite being a regular in strong team two times during his basketball period, Kuroko is considered lacking even in basic techniques of basketball, and is physically weak. So, how did he manage to outcome opponents and proved himself worthy? The answer is simple. His lack of presence. it is not his weakness at all, In fact, It’s his strength. Based on his already lacking presence mixed with his sharp observing instinct, he could avert opponent's attention from him, making him easily steal the ball. This ability called as “Misdirection” and this is the only trademark move owned by Kuroko. Therefore with this, his passes are invincible and tricky. They could easily deceived his opponent. With that alone he could boost one team to take the advantage. Although, there is limit to his misdirection skill. He could only become 'invisible' for maximum 40 minutes long. And to certain players that are as good as him in paying attention to opponent's behavior and habit, his Misdirection won't work at all.

That being said, aside from Basketball topic, his critical analysis upon observing toward objects, reading through people’s behavior psychology and his cool head to progress those into a worthy useful plan could be considered his special talent, since it’s pretty useful, either that for inside or even outside Basketball. That, along with his mental strength and firm grip to his ambition. These abilities made him a formidable opponent that won't be easily taken down and could always gives twist to his problem with new innovation of tricks.

Weapons/Items :

A Basketball, please. Also, a portrait of Seirin's team member during their camp.

Sample 1 [Action Brackets] :

Although his face remains with the same flat expression, inside, Kuroko starts to feel concerned about this. He has already sent text to his internet provider, even convinced them that he needs his internet to be fixed immediately. Not necessarily, just that he has to check some Basketball websites. Even for Kuroko, tolerating the delays in work is kind of hard. Sure, he is quite patience. But this begins to surpass his limit.]

[Lucky for him, his cellphone suddenly rings. And it is an incoming call from his internet provider, probably calling for confirmation. Kuroko immediately presses the green button to answer the call.]

Yes, Kuroko here. Right, I requested the connection check.

[One could overheard mumbles the caller has when they speaks to him. It is unclear what their answer could be, but Kuroko frowned at it.]

Oh is that so..? please tell me more. I don't really get about this extended subscription package thing.

[The speaker answers him. This time it seems longer as if they are trying to explain thoroughly about their new service system. One can see Kuroko nods his head multiple times with a short "Oh" and "ok". ]

Ah..? No sir. I don't need the special access to Enka Channel .

[Another mumbles heard.]

No, I don't really need the Elite member account as well, thanks.

[And mumbles, yet again.]

Yeah, that one please. Sure. I'll be waiting and re-check my connection at 8 PM then.

[Kuroko replies politely, then he quit the call. The main screen of his cellphone appears, and it has " 4:00 PM" written at right corner top. That means he still has to wait for 4 hours long. Kuroko looks around, trying to find something worth to do while he is waiting.]

Character Name: Ganymede (Prince of Troy)
Canon: Olympos
Canon Point: End of Series
Background/History: My written history.

Previous Game History: n/a

Personality: Above all else, Ganymede is resilient - a young man who has suffered immeasurably and been mocked at all stages of it, he has not lost his will to live and understand the world around him. While many others in his situation would have lost the will to function completely, Ganymede has soldiered on through everything and fought to keep a clear sense of self.

While Ganymede was born quite a pleasant person - sweet, charismatic, loving, if still a little spoilt - his life experiences have changed him to some extent. Years of pain, unending boredom, and constant mockery for every (unsuccessful) move he's made to protect or comfort himself has taken its toll on the good parts of his personality. He's developed something of a hard shell - critical, snappy, stubborn, and apathetic, he lashes out at people when they bother him in the slightest. It's a defense mechanism, he's spent so long being picked on and teased and struggling to survive throughout it that he's taken to lashing out in return almost as an instinctive self-protective response. It doesn't help that he's also quite haughty, having been raised a prince before becoming the immortal pawn of the gods. He has a virtually unending well of pride, and this usually negative personality trait has been one of the few things that has sustained him, the strong core that's allowed him to maintain a powerful sense of self through hundreds of thousands of years of constant boredom, fruitless struggling, and the despair of hoping, failing, and being made fun of for it.

Ganymede has a nasty temper, though, and it often unleashes itself violently. His first instinct is never to cave in or acquiesce to the demands of other people, and he while his pride helps him resist despair and depression, he naturally reacts to anything that threatens his comfortable apathy with anger and aggression rather than depression, despair, or hope. He shouts and calls people names and threatens before ever choosing to do as asked, and while things people say to him do tend to stick in his mind, he doesn't allow them to drag him down too far. While he takes things that others say, no matter how cruel, to heart, he makes efforts to understand them and take what he, personally, wants from them rather than allowing others to make him value himself less or hurt him too deeply - everything that's happened that hurt him the most are things that he considers failings on his part. He judges himself, and he won't tolerate others trying to do that for him, or telling him how he should perceive himself.

However, despite his tough, snarky, and haughty exterior, he is very affected by the things that have happened to him. He spent a long time consumed by grief and desperation, and while he maintains that to hope is to invite madness, he is still capable of it despite the risks involved. He is also deeply sensitive, afraid to open up, trust, or allow himself to have hope because his hope has always been dashed. It says a lot about his capacity to bounce back that he was able to attempt to trust Heinz and have some hope when he appeared despite centuries of being mocked for trying to get out. Still, Ganymede's sadness runs very deep - he's seen his brother be killed, knows his family and their descendents are long dead, and knows that even the capital city his father built is something that can now be excavated from under the dirt - he's lost everything he has ever cared about or loved, and is incredibly emotionally damaged because of it. This leaves him with a great deal of trouble when it comes to forming bonds with other people - both too vulnerable and too prickly to form relationships easily - but he is capable of becoming fond of people and doesn't shy away from asking about them, interested in spite of himself because it's been so long since he's met anyone new.

Finally, Ganymede is quite intelligent and clever. He's capable of understanding things beyond a level that other human characters in the manga seem to be able to, grasping the nature of the gods and even becoming capable of working out their ulterior motives. Inquisitive, he's always keeping himself occupied by trying to learn new things, a skill honed through centuries of living in what is essentially a giant riddle. He's able to verbally spar with, surprise, and amuse the gods that visit him despite the fact that they've seen everything and know close to everything, and he does it without meaning to. He catches on to things, learns quickly, puts together the ends of broken or obscure concepts so he can understand the bigger, sketchy picture. Above all else, he is capable of adaptation and while adapting has learned many, many things about himself and the world he inhabits - and his many centuries of life have left him very wise, in a way.

Altogether, Ganymede is a complex person - vulnerable and wounded but still powerfully strong, adaptable and guided by an unfailing inquisitive intelligence that allows him to find his way through complicated situations, able to endure indignities and situations that would drive most men insane while still maintaining his pride.

Abilities/Powers: Ganymede is immortal of the variety that dies and then wakes up shortly afterward. He is also capable of regeneration, being shown to cut his arm off in canon and have it regrow in the form of fluttering flowers to solidity within a few minutes. He still feels the full amount of pain associated with his injuries, but has developed a high tolerance to it. He is never shown needing to eat or drink in canon, but he does sleep. He doesn't age.
Items/Weapons: All Ganymede has on him is his clothing, his jewelry, and the shortsword given to him by his older brother.
Sample Entry: A thread with Apollo at Holly Heights.
Sample Entry Two:

In the blink of an eye, the world changed.

It didn't come to an end, it didn't fall apart around him, it wasn't as complicated as bait and hook and everything going to pieces in the blink of Zeus' suddenly-seeing eyes, little more than an amusement for bored immortals. It was much simpler than that. Just a blink, and then he was gone.

One minute, standing in the garden thinking about his most recent conversations with Hades and Apollo, still trying to reconcile his own greed and grasping at life and reason - the next minute his eyes were opening, his lips parting, waking from sleep, from a nightmare of a place where the stars always shone and flowers coated the ground, gasping for breath. For a long moment he was disoriented, lying on his back with his sword resting against his chest, hands draped over it, slowly regisetering what he could see and feel - a building around him, with furnishings unfamiliar and jarring, a loud noise that had awakened him from sleep he couldn't remember falling into, and the fact that he was lying on something much softer than a bed of flowers over stone. He sat up, the movement abrupt, reaching toward the sound that seemed to be coming from everywhere at once, hands closing over the device making the sound, slapping at it until the awful noise stopped. He sat still on the edge of the bed, wide blue eyes flicking around the room he was in, breathing heavy, still feeling the effects of being awakened so suddenly.

For a moment, it was interesting, captivating, something new and different for how jarring it was, sending his nerves aflutter and his heart beating too fast. How long had it been since he felt that way? When time didn't matter beyond the slow ebb and tide of his own acceptances, did it really have any meaning?

He wondered for a moment if Apollo, in his countless years of learning and testing, ever said it out loud - 'That which was sport for the gods will become like them, with too much time on his hands.'

Taking a deep breath and then exhaling, Ganymede looked down at his own hands, then the place around him - obviously, it was something brought here to test him, like that Heinz, like Hades, and the best he could do before processing this was to learn what he could from it while being careful not to fall for any tricks. And beyond the fluttering of fear, the way his heart was pounding, the quickness of his breath, the unfamiliar physical reactions of fear, the only thing he was feeling was annoyance, a flash of anger at being toyed with even further. Apollo really knew no bounds, and this kind of change of scenery was just too much!

PERSONALITY [2/4]

[personal profile] olozhikaik 2013-06-02 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality: Spock hails from a culture and species that (generally) base their lives on logic and rationality. This is partially due to the fact that their emotions run deeper than that of humans; their emotions run so deep that if they do not control them they become a great danger. It is said that once upon a time the Vulcan were vicious, enraged, and paranoid -- they were more tyrannical and brutish than humans ever had been. So to this philosophy he is - more or less - loyal. However, Spock has something that other Vulcan’s do not. He is not a full-blooded Vulcan. Rather, he is half and half human. This hybrid of Human/Vulcan leaves him vulnerable and troubled throughout life as he constantly grasps at remaining in control, but it also gives him something that no other Vulcan has: an ability to become intimately conscious of human emotion. Something, admittedly, he needs to work on. Something he may actually be trying to work on.

When you first consider Spock, you would see a man of high-intelligence. Spock’s intelligence is far above that of genius. He speaks clearly and articulates with a well-schooled vernacular. He is almost always very polite (even when he is being insulting), and possibly as a sign that he does not speak English as a first language, he is often using somewhat outdated terms and words. As many of his kind, Spock is professionally ambitious and he has a thirst for learning that is difficult to sate. Such a trait is useful for Starfleet and possibly one of many reasons why he excels as the first Vulcan to enlist. In many ways, Spock is an outside who is forging his own path through life his own way. Much like the captain he is slowly beginning to admire.

Spock is rational, logical, methodical, and has an intense moral code that demands he obey rule and law. He desires peace and justice for all living kind and works to actively advocate that method of living through logic. He respects the law and those above him but when his supreme logic and understanding of law crosses wires with those above him, he does make note of it. *Spock’s subtle attitude when he disagrees has been shown to have happened with Admiral Pike on many occasions - once leading in a request for him to leave the room - and he also disagreed with the moral of the mission given to them by Admiral Marcus.*

He is a voice of reason for those around him and has proven to be a brave and wise leader. While many crew members may butt heads with Spock at some point or another, they know that in the end he is faithful to them and will do all that is necessary to lead them appropriately. As a rule, Spock understands that not all beings place logic above all else as he and his people do. However, when all attempts to reason with someone who is displaying signs of irrationality fail, he finds himself greatly frustrated (or baffled depending on the severity and/or situation at hand).

Spock’s loyalty to law and order often infringes on potential friendships. In some parts, he does not care for such a thing but in other parts he desires (perhaps not even consciously) familial bonds. After losing his mother and his home planet - something he feels extremely helpless toward and still haunts him to this day - some inner part of him seeks to fill this hole that was left in him. He is not unloving nor as cold as his peers may believe him to be. He loved his mother deeply and he has an active relationship with Uhura. It is, again, the intensity in which he feels that he must control with logic before it overwhelms him.

Spock can be a little bit sassy, bull-headed, sarcastic, and sometimes downright mean, especially when he is arguing a point of which he is passionate toward (most likely, order, law, and logic). His superior sense of reasoning frequently leaves people with an urge to punch him in the face. The irritating part is that Spock is often right and therefore refrains people from this mode of action (usually).

So, let’s dive into the human side of Spock.

Beneath his veneer of logic, there is a wealth of humanity that we are only beginning to see in him. As a child, Spock was often conflicted. He was often put under scrutiny for being half-vulcan and therefore “impure, inferior, and disadvantaged.” Spock wanted nothing more but to be accepted into the world that he was born. He yearned for the respect of his parents, the respect of his peers, the respect of his elders. Yet even with his excellence acknowledged, Spock was scrutinized against unjustly because he was half human. In many ways, this desire has continued into his young adulthood.

When we first witness Spock at the Academy we see someone holding a strong armor over him that could almost be understood as arrogance. He has a quick tongue and a facade of superiority and perhaps this is a result of being looked down upon for what and who he is; a blanket to keep away the hurt that comes with years of being alone.

His inability to deal with the amount of emotion he feels every single day leaves him in the same position as many other Vulcan: turning toward cold reasoning. At the point of his work with Starfleet, it is almost as if the hope to connect more profoundly with others has been dissolved and his indulgence in academic excellence has taken it’s place. This can lead him to become protective of his academic success and even become jealous of those who may dare to do better, challenging them in his own way.

His wrath as a child when provoked incurs such deep emotion that he easily takes down a Vulcan almost twice his size, and his wrath as an adult is just as dangerous if not more. This is an emotion that Spock has the least amount of control over. *In the second film we also see his ability to feel great anguish to the point of brimming tears before anger takes control and his absolute helplessness toward it. He struggles to keep control of this and even fully admits that he is failing in his control. These are things that he will continue to struggle with in his young life as he is surrounded by those not his own kind. It is a struggle that had often created tense situations with those at Starfleet and will likely continue to anywhere he goes where the principle of living is not based on logic.

It is difficult to pierce the mask of rationality that he wears, sometimes as armor, but it is very possible and when it happens you find a maelstrom of emotions you may not have been ready to unleash.

All of these strengths and weaknesses aside, Spock is a good-hearted being with an intention to do what is ‘right, proper, and logical’. He is often eager to be on away teams and collect data and samples for study himself, and quick to take action. He is one of the first persons to sacrifice himself when all other options have been exhausted believing heavily that ‘the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few’.
