APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN!
The next processing date is Friday 11th October

IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE

We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every two weeks, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. If you wish to request a specific apartment, please do so in the relevant part of the application. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Every attempt will be made to place a character in their chosen apartments, though this may not always be possible depending on the slots available.

Applications are open constantly, but are only processed every other Friday at 7PM EST. The Saturday following acceptance, an IC mingle log will be posted for characters to be introduced to the game.

We now have a test drive community at [community profile] haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. You may also link posts, logs, or threads from other games and memes in lieu of samples, though we ask that they be no more than one year old.

Character Name: Mavis Dracula
Canon: Hotel Transylvania
Canon Point: After her scare at the “human” village, before meeting Johnnystein
Background/History: Hi wiki
Previous Game History: N/A
Personality:
Mavis has the Disney princess “I want more” thing down to a T.

She’s also has “Daddy’s little ghoul” down to a T.

The daughter of Dracula, Mavis is (ironically) a ray of sunshine. Friendly, smart, and eager to learn new things, her pampered and sheltered life hasn’t had much of a negative effect on her ability to get along with people. Likely due to her father being the owner of the Hotel Transylvania. She wants to get out and see new places, being very naïve about the world due to most of what she knows of it is very out of date.

Mavis is a teenage girl who has never really had friends her own age. The friends she does have are friends of her father, and she only gets to see them a few times a year. She doesn’t begrudge this or even dislikes them at all. In fact she gets along great with all the visitors to the hotel. But doing the same thing year after year with no real changes has made her a little bored with her life. She envies the other monsters because while they see the hotel as a place to get away and be themselves, they at least get to see what’s outside the walls. At the same time, while she wants to get out, she’s afraid of disappointing her father. Mavis loves him dearly and knows that he keeps her close because he’s afraid to lose her. So instead of just turning into a bat and making a break for it, she’s very cooperative in reasoning and bargaining with him.

Because of what happened to her mother, Mavis grew up with her dad feeding her the fear of humans. Without knowing any herself, humans seemed like some horror movie monster that just stopped being scary after awhile. She’s curious about what they’re really like, thinking her dad’s scare tactics are way out of date. That was before her trek out to her first “human” village, which was actually a ploy by her father to hammer in his scare tactics. At the point in canon, she’s really spooked by what happened. She still wants to see the world, but the thought of running into another human terrifies her.

Abilities/Powers:
Mavis is the daughter of Dracula. So all those vampire things from the old movies? Totally applies here.

In the movie she can:
-transform into a bat
-walk on walls
-run at super speed
-fly
-heal at an accelerated rate

Her dad is shown to do a lot more like telekinesis and mind control, but she’s not old enough to do these things yet.

Of course a lot of these powers depends on if she’s fed. Again, she has the whole vampire thing, so yeah she needs to feed on blood. Any blood works, so she’s fine attacking small animals and such. In fact she’s never had human blood before. She also does have the classic vampire weaknesses: i.e. she burns in sunlight, allergic to garlic, and she can be killed by fire or a stake in the heart.

Sample Entry:
[Video clicks on oh okay she gets it. Yeah this is one of those portable phone things she's heard Uncle Griffin talk about right?]

Hello?

[Nothing? Huh, usually when you're on the phone someone answers.]

Helloooo?

[Her lips purse into a pout. Where is everyone anyway?]

Spooky. Actually looks like a real city. Though isn’t there supposed to be a bunch of lights and not so...deserted? [Maybe cities are like this? She really didn't sound to sure of herself.] Okay Dad you can come out now. I get it, I’m not going to leave the hotel, okay? You don’t need to convince me even more. Dad! Uncle Frank? Come on you guys have to be in on this. Uncle Wayne? Uncle Murray? Uncle Griffin?

[Trying to put on a brave face, but it's pretty obvious she's freaking out a little.]

Yeah, yeah, I know this one. The scary humans are going to jump out and get me. Dad I’m not a little ghoul anymore. And you’re terrible at this game.

[The scenery wasn't the part that was freaking her out before, heck it's pretty normal for her. But all this quiet? Slightly hugging her arms, Mavis slowly backs herself into a corner.]

This…this is just a game, right? Dad?

Sample Entry Two:
Flying outside the castle at night was always her favorite thing to do. How much freedom the sky and the night air gave her. The only thing holding her back was her instinct to stay close to the Hotel. Venturing too far out would set off the warning alarm every single time.

So how weird was it for her to feel the same restriction here?

Transformed into the small black bat, Mavis soared through the city, darting back and forth between broken windows and debris. It was fantastic to see something new like this after over a century. But at the same time, her dad was probably worried sick about her right now. t would be so easy to take her time and really explore this place, but that knowledge nagged at the back of her head. It should be hard. Go to the hotel, let dad know she was completely fine, then come back and sight see-

BONK

Rubbing at her head, Mavis noticed there wasn't anything here. What did she run into then? Backing up slightly, the bat flew at ramming speed...into whatever stopped her the first time.

"A wall?" Darting around, come on there had to be a way out. No. No. No. No way she was completely trapped.

Agent Maine || Red vs. Blue

Name: Krakatau

Preferred Apartment: None

Character Name: Agent Maine
Canon: Red vs. Blue
Canon Point: Season 9, Episode 17 "Spiral", during the fight on the flatbed truck, just before he takes a dozen bullets to the throat
Background/History: Agent Maine was part of a private, experimental military program called Project Freelancer. During a time of insurrectionist uprising on top of a xenocidal war with a collection of alien races, mankind was strapped for solutions. Freelancer was one of several projects -- some more morally bankrupt than others -- that absolved to find the 'magic bullet to end the war' at all costs. Dr. Leonard Church ran Project Freelancer with the idea of giving elite soldiers extensive training, state-of-the-art space-capable body armor and enhancements, and aggressive AI units.
Personality: Agent Maine is the epitome of 'strong silent type'. He is both the largest and quietest Freelancer. He's content to sit back and observe rather than make his opinions known. Although he can be mistaken for a simple-minded brute, he's discerning and intelligent and able to think on his own. He is still far more a follower than a leader.

The program nurtures a rather unhealthy amount of competition among what are supposed to be 'teammates', and when we first see Agent Maine in Season 9, it's in a three-against-one training session with himself, York, and Wyoming against the new recruit Agent Texas. After eight rounds of getting their asses kicked, Agent Maine takes live ammo and a couple frag grenades from Agent Texas and use that to try and bring her down, in inadvertently catching York in the crossfire (who'd been trying to stop them).

However, Agent Maine is able to separate whatever ranking battle there is on the training room floor and use stark professionalism on the field. During the Sacrophagus mission, he intentionally dodges in front of a sniper bullet intended for Agent Carolina, saving her life.

As for words, he relies heavily on body-language and awareness and almost animalistic noises (grunts, growls, rumbles, etc). He is able to talk from the canon point I will be bringing him from, but his choice of words is few and concise. Get off me, Too high, and Thanks are his canon contributions.

Abilities/Powers:
Agent Maine is an elite soldier from the 26th century, on top of which he is a freaking huge human being and well-muscled. Without armor, he'd still be capable of

Sample Entry: Maine at Paradisa

Sample Entry Two:

As bleak as the situation might get, Maine maintained a general air of disconnect as he made his way almost aimlessly across the town. Hands in his pockets, posture slightly slouched against the wind, he seemed to be on a casual stroll.

In reality, he was scoping the place out; making a note of what buildings were there, where there seemed to be power, and where there seemed to be none, and keeping mental notes on anything that might offer strategic cover during a firefight.

Part of it was instinct, but part of it was boredom. Having been so used to missions and training and sparring sessions, this sudden lack of concrete things to do made him restless.

Usagi Tsukino | Sailor Moon | Reserved

[personal profile] rabbitheartedgirl 2012-10-14 01:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Name: Gil or Lauren
Contact Info: PLURK: verisimilitude
DW account: quiddity
AIM: gimmeyourgil
Other Characters Played: N/A, also apping Rikku.
Preferred Apartment: 1.006

Character Name: Usagi Tsukino, sometimes called dumpling head or meatball head or any other number of insulting names based on her hair style. Also sometimes called "Bunny" or Usako (a diminutive form of Usagi).
Canon: Sailor Moon (anime)
Canon Point: The end of the Dark Kingdom Arc, just before the girls are set to warp to the D Point (episode 45 in Japan, episode 40 in the American dub).
Background/History: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sailor_Moon#Story & http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sailor_Moon_%28character%29

Personality: 14 years old and in her last year of junior high school, Usagi Tsukino is a student who defies the norms by not joining any of the clubs at her school and slacking off to the point of repeatedly failing exams. Not stupid, simply exceptionally lazy, her main goals in life appear to be eating as much delicious food as possible, sleeping whenever she can, and generally getting by with as little work done as possible. She regularly sleeps in and is running late, particularly in the mornings when she should be getting ready for school. Her major hobbies appear to be daydreaming, pining after the handsome worker at the local arcade, pigging out on junk food and playing video games. She has little to no talent with sports, being clumsy (the sole exception being discus throwing), and is forgetful and becomes lost or distracted easily. Combine all that with her attitude as an infamous whiner and crybaby, and she seems like a less-than-average teenage girl who has a slightly strained relationship with her family members (particularly her mother, who gets angry at her for her poor performance and her younger brother, who likes to tease her about her bad grades as well).

In reality, she has a lot on her shoulders: the weight of the world, actually. Secretly, she fights monsters from outer space that want to steal peoples' energy and take over the world as the heroine known as "Sailor Moon." Additionally, she has recently discovered that she is the reincarnated princess of the moon, a girl who lived a thousand years before and died when the same invading alien forces attempted to destroy her kingdom and steal away her fiance. Although fulfilling her duties to protect the innocent and powerless are not at all easy for her (being generally nonathletic, klutzy, unwilling, and easily frightened) she can and does rise to the occasion, usually when people close to her are threatened. This is because Usagi is a very loyal friend and a genuinely caring person. She's the kind of person who can and does care about the well-being of people, even strangers, and stray animals and will go out of her way to help someone in need.

She can actually be quite overbearing, nosy, and meddlesome with her friends, particularly in matters related to their love-lives. She's kind of a terrible gossip, has a weakness for jewelry and money, and she is NOT above getting into petty squabbles (having an immature temperament) with her friends and younger brother. But she's also supportive and loving and would put herself in harm's way to protect the people she loves and even risk their anger in order to help them.

Usagi wears her heart on her sleeve, for certain, but it's a good heart, and usually she manages to endear herself to other people. Her struggles to find the courage to stand up in the face of powerful evil is aided by her love for her friends and one Mamoru Chiba, who (as it coincidentally turns out) is the man she was engaged to in her previous life and believes to be her soul mate. Notably, though, she pretty much never does anything unassisted, and is frequently on the losing end until someone (her friends or Tuxedo Mask) show up to save her.

She tends to have a low opinion of herself, though, perhaps because other people can be so hard on her and because she is somewhat aware of her shortfalls (laziness, being a crybaby, not being a very good leader, etc) and her confidence in herself can be just as easily broken down as it is built up. What she wants more than anything now is to be able to return to her peaceful life as a normal girl and enjoy the rest of her teenage years (as well as dote on the love of her life and hang out with her friends).

Abilities/Powers:
As herself, Usagi appears to possess absolutely no abilities what-so-ever.

She transforms into Sailor Moon using a brooch that she wears on the bow of her uniform at all times by calling out the words, "Moon Prism Power, Make up." This locket, when opened, plays an 'orgel' version of the anime's opening theme song, "Moonlight Densetsu," and is a symbol of her relationship to Mamoru.

Within that brooch is an item known as the 'Ginzuisho,' or the Silver Crystal. This item is by far her most important item, and is the holy relic left over from her life as the princess of the moon. It is considered the proof of her identity as the Princess and the ultimate source of her power. It gives access to a very strong power that can heal/cleanse evil, however, using it drains her life force and ostensibly kills her.)

A transformation sequence occurs involving magic ribbons that spring out of the brooch, in which her school uniform is replaced by a uniform with an extremely short skirt, gloves, boots and a tight bodice (to detail it some). When she transforms back, these ribbons will usually unwind to reveal the clothes she was wearing before, except in the case of a forced de-transformation, in which case she may be left naked. (whups)

As Sailor Moon, she appears to have increased speed and the ability to jump incredibly high/far. She has a few body attacks, including Sailor Moon Kick and Sailor Body Attack, neither of which are very successful and are very rarely used.

She also has access to a few items that allow her to attack evil doers. There are two red jewels in her hair buns that can act as amplifying receivers to hear victims in distress. They can also amplify the sounds that she makes, turning her cries into sound waves that can damage an enemy. The tiara that she wears on her forehead can be taken off and transforms into a weaponized discus, the path of which she can direct. It can also be enlarged and shrunk to ensnare an enemy as though it was a metal lasso. She even once uses it in the anime to purify a group of possessed people.

She also possesses an item known as the Moon Stick to perform energy/magic-based attacks. Sometimes these are unnamed, but usually she will say 'Moon Healing Escalation' to activate them. These powers are sometimes indistinguishable as attacks or healing/purifying powers because many of the monsters she faces are actually corrupted or possessed beings or objects.

Usagi very rarely accesses her aspect as Princess, but when she does her clothes change to a flowing white dress and her powers seem to be reduced in number but amplified in strength. However, using the Silver Crystal in this form usually results in her passing out or dying and is therefor a last ultimatum.

In later arcs of the anime, she is occasionally able to access a pair of wings that are sometimes functional; I am assuming that without prior mod permission those will not be showing up.

Note: There is at least one other object that Sailor Moon possesses known as the Transformation Pen that allows her to change herself to any number of other things for the purposes of disguise; I have already assumed that will not be coming with her, so I haven't bothered to list it, but please let me know if I need to. I am aware that as Sailor Moon, Usagi will not have access to the Moon Rod and therefor a large chunk of her powers. I will look to you for direction as far as her tiara, possession of the Crystal, and the functionality of her hair pieces go.

Sample Entry:
[Nervous, feminine laughter pipes through the speaker phones.]

Man, I really thought Ami was just kidding about not eating cheese before bed. This is the weirdest dream I've ever had. Where're the cute boys? The dozens of cake? The ice cream? Just a lumpy bed…

[There are a few moments of silence, and then a whispered ouch and a whimper.]

But… how come… I mean, I pinched myself, but I'm not… waking up. I am dreaming, aren't I? Right?

[There is a quiver and sharp rise to the pitch of her voice.]

Is this a nightmare? Oooh, I really don't…

[She sniffles. When she speaks again, her voice has definitely hit a decidedly nasal, whiny quality.]

Why can't at least my dreams be normal? I wanna wake up…!

Sample Entry Two:
Usagi sniffled miserably in the corner of the unfamiliar room, head buried against her knees in her navy pleated school skirt. She'd been crying for—well, who knew how long now. She'd pinched herself just about a half-dozen times and no matter how hard she did it, she just couldn't wake up.

Which meant this wasn't a dream.

Which meant she'd been kidnapped to some unfamiliar place with a strange, unfamiliar bed. The last thing she could remember was preparing to go warp to D Point, but now she wasn't sure where her friends were or where she was, and trying to teleport all on her own was just going to be impossible.

She just wanted to go home. Or back to sleep.

Note: I feel like both these samples show a very limited range to her personality. If you're hoping for something more well-rounded, the following thread should be helpful: http://the-love-hotel.dreamwidth.org/531003.html?thread=57549371#cmt57549371 (Please note, while this thread is technically hosted on a smut DR, none of the content in this thread is rated higher than PG-13 or R.)

Character Name: Rikku (no last name known); no known nicknames.
Canon: Final Fantasy X/X-2
Canon Point: Post canon of X-2.
Background/History: http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Final_Fantasy_X, http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Final_Fantasy_X-2,
http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Rikku

Previous Game History: None. However, if you look at her journal (plunderful) you will notice that there's a ton of information posted there for the game Exit Void. I am playing her there simultaneously BUT independently (that is, never shall the two meet).

Personality:
Rikku comes off a lot of the time as a well-intentioned wild-child. She is usually bold, upbeat, outgoing, trusting and friendly. She welcomes strangers into her life just as easily as friends or family she has known for years. She carries herself with courage and a confidence that can sound like arrogance; she has been known to respond to compliments by affirming her talents. Rikku is rarely afraid to speak her mind, even when it makes her sound childish, naive, or silly.

She has an adventurous, curious streak, the kind that makes her poke her nose into other peoples' business and pry her fingers into treasure chests. This kind of behavior can and does regularly get her into trouble. She's also playful and enjoys teasing people and showing her affection for them, sometimes in slightly aggressive ways.

While not mean-spirited or vicious, Rikku's not the kind of person to back down from an argument if she feels she's in the right. The same goes for difficult battles where the odds might seem insurmountable to a normal person. Monsters won't easily frighten her either: this is the same girl that helped defeat Sin. Don't count on her thinking she can't win: she might be small and skinny, but so are sticks of dynamite. Not that she has any intention of exploding, mind you: there’s no point in winning if you’re not alive to enjoy it.

It's impossible to tell whether it's entirely due to her skill or partially because of her status as the second-child and only daughter of the leader of the Al Bhed, but she's been responsible for scavenging expeditions and in a position of leadership over small groups of Al Bhed since at least around the time she was 15. And she's good at it. If that wasn't enough to indicate she's quite capable, she has an extensive knowledge of machina (machines) , is an artificer of armory and other equipment, is a decent deceiver, is an accomplished thief and treasure-hunter, and is bilingual to boot. So in spite of her impish and even puerile behavior, she is in fact an intelligent and clever girl.

There is absolutely nothing that Rikku will not do to protect her loved ones, even if it means risking her life. She has an empathetic streak that makes her a real softy to people in need. She’s also familiar with living in the face of difficulties and uncertainty. Rikku was helpless but to watch her family and friends be slaughtered by fiends because of the Guado Yevonites, and then the survivors had to destroy the remains to get rid of all the monsters. Somehow, despite numerous painful experiences that have killed family members and friends, and might have crushed another person’s spirit, embittering them to other human beings, Rikku keeps on going and is able to open her heart to others, indicating that spiritually she is hardy and loving.

Though quick to irritation, Rikku isn't good at holding a grudge. Her anger usually dissipates pretty quickly, and she's usually able to see some of her responsibilities in making the problem. She tends to become (briefly) quieter with shame until she can find some way to make up for it. She's not very good at expressing regret or apologies, but she does sincerely mean it, however she shows it. Even with larger issues that would usually be a deal-breaker for most people, Rikku can make up with someone who's sorry for mistreating her. She’s usually eager to patch things up after a fight despite her sense of pride. She spent much of her life having very few friends outside her tribe; it stands to reason that people who genuinely like her are very precious to her, and she would probably do (just about) anything to keep the ones she does make.

Rikku is not exactly a skeptic, but she’s more than able and willing to question ideas handed down to her to see if they actually make sense or are substantiated. She works well under pressure, and can lie and hide information suitably well.

Underneath her effervescing exterior is a more turbulent interior, a teenage girl who doesn't really know what she wants out of life. Her friends are all moving on in their lives without her, settling down to have families and give up their adventures, but she doesn't feel ready yet. She's swiftly moving out of the last vestiges of her childhood, but feels there is nowhere for her to go, and no one to be with, a very difficult concept to deal with for a girl who hates to be alone and is used to being surrounded by good family and friends.

Despite being intelligent and wanting to be treated like a competent adult, Rikku can be very childish. She suffers from poor impulse control, for one thing, and can be nosy in detrimental ways. She is very easily teased, and hypocritically protests when other people tease her. She can be hypersensitive to criticism to the point of taking offense at comments that are not actually meant to be insulting. She's easily won over by compliments and kind words and gets excited by the prospect of treasure or a good time. She can be whiny and bratty when things aren't going her way. She's not above trying to guilt trip people into getting what she wants. She is often impatiently running ahead of everyone else, unable to wait for them. She can be clever and mouthy but reckless when arguing, saying things that might be hurtful just because she doesn't give herself time to think. When frightened or flustered, Rikku can easily become aggressive, punching first and asking questions later. In fact, when she’s not very happy, she’s usually irritated by something or someone, which she tends to vent aggressively.

Additional immaturity is evident in her dependence and sensitivity to the people around her. Criticism that comes from her friends and family, as can be seen both in her relationships with Wakka in X and her father in X-2, is reacted to particularly badly. She also reacts poorly to feeling neglected, pouting and occasionally indulging in passive-aggressive behavior. She is also preoccupied with ideas of "fairness" and "niceness" and is quick to correct people if she feels they're being too harsh on her or people she loves. Although her strong sense of loyalty is usually a good thing and makes her the kind of friend you'd want to have, it also means that Rikku has done (and may do again) things for loved ones that others would probably find morally abhorrent. Rikku worries easily about the people she loves and problems that feel bigger than herself. In fact, she is prone to frenetic mental stewing which leads to stress, frustration, anger, and rashly acting out if she can't find a way to handle the tension.

Sometimes she gets in trouble because, despite her confidence, she's not really at the top of the food-chain. It may be that she doesn't properly prepare herself when she gets excited or that she's used to working in teams, and therefor having somebody at her back. Secondly, she's good enough to be unaccustomed to losing. But lose she can, and does occasionally. She might hate to ask for help, feeling it's a sign of weakness, but she does genuinely appreciate the help when she actually needs it.

Rikku is exceptionally private about her deeper, particularly negative, emotions. She bottles them up inside until they can’t help but explode out of her. She does not cry easily or often because she usually able to vent her frustrations through small aggressions, and it takes something big to trigger real despair. When she does break down, it's a very complete (if brief) thing: crying and sobbing, the whole nine yards. Actually confiding in somebody before breaking down, or having that kind of emotional breakdown in front of them, is a huge sign of trust coming from her. It would take someone really special for her to feel comfortable enough to express herself; she fears both being seen as weak and immature and sees crying as a sign of both those things.

Rikku's values and morals can be a complicated mess to understand, because she tends to be more concerned with achieving her results than how she gets at them. Being a thief and Al Bhed, she has to some degree always lived outside of general society's prescribed values, so she doesn’t worry about what is and isn’t against the law or valued by some higher authority. While she does have a kind of code of honor, it merits the people she loves, her survival, and her sense of right and wrong (which is probably pretty flexible) rather than society's dictations, which can feel arbitrary and nonsensical to her. Once she's decided which course of action is the right one (factoring in the people she loves and whatever moral ramifications she would actually be concerned with), she will stubbornly follow it, even if it alienates her from her family and friends or means that her actions today contradict yesterday's.

It's likely that, given her mother died when she was very young and her father and brother were the closest people to her, a lot of concepts about femininity and a woman's role in life as a mother and caretaker are unappealing to her at her current age. Although she’s stated she would like to have a family with lots of kids eventually, for now, she apparently wants none of it. She particularly resists her father's urges that she give up sphere hunting to find a husband and start a family. She seems to be treating Sin's defeat as an extra-inning of youth, but is finding it spoiled by having no one to share it with.

While still wanting to enjoy her freedom, Rikku badly wants to be seen as mature at the same time. In FFX, while at the bottom of Lake Macalania and talking with Tidus and Kimahri, she admires how together and mature Lulu seems. She says that in five or six years, she will be too. However, by the end of X-2, she still hasn't gotten there, and I think there could be insecurity there. After all, kids always want to grow up faster than they do, and she really is a young woman now.

The radical change in clothing-to-skin ratio between games is (in my head-canon) Rikku attempting to physically emulate the maturity of older women that is embodied by wearing more revealing clothing (see Lulu, Dona, Yunalesca, etc). She smiles to pretend she's happy until she actually is; I think she might try the same psychological trick with clothing. While aware that she is "cute," even "pretty," she would like to actually feel attractive, though comments and flirtations from other people about her dress are actually just liable to fluster and embarrass her. In fact, there's evidence to suggest that she really doesn't know how to handle attention from boys, in that she reacts to being flirted with or teased with embarrassment and (mild) aggression. She possesses the typical kinds of insecurities about her body image that most girls her age have, regardless of how cute or pretty they really are. Not that she hates her body, but how many girls do you know wouldn't want to change one or two things about themselves?

Rikku's attitudes about religion and the supernatural are complicated. The major religion in Spira, Yevon, made her family outcasts, but as she tells Wakka, it's wrong to presume that the Al Bhed hate Yevon. They simply refuse to follow teachings that have no factual basis. They don't perform the customary prayers to Yevon and are morally opposed to the idea of sacrificing summoners for the world's happiness. However even they know and seem to take some comfort in singing the Hymn of the Fayth, since her brother and father both sing it as they prepare to blow up Home. There is some indication that they may even choose to go visit the Farplane, the in-game equal to heaven on earth I suppose, if they so wish. However, Rikku makes the choice not to go inside, saying that "she'd rather keep her memories inside" because what people see in the Farplane are pyreflies reacting with peoples' memories to construct illusions of lost loved ones. Perhaps this might make it look like she's not actually a very sentimental person, but I think that the truth is more likely that Rikku is simply very private about her deeper emotions.

Other odds and ends about Rikku's personality include a fear of snakes and a love for beautiful, sparkly, and/or rare things. She used to suffer from a fairly severe case of astrophobia after having been hit by a thunder spell when she was a child. According to FFX-2, she spent a week out in the Thunder Plains (where it constantly storms) working to rid herself of it, and has tamed the more irrational, debilitating aspects of it. Based on her age and her overall bashfulness with boys (covered earlier), she's probably sexually inexperienced. She's also something of a word-smith, which fits her playful, creative nature. In her canon, she never curses, which is notable since several other characters do. Rather, when she insults people, she resorts frequently to childish name-calling in the first game. I like to have her use her whimsical word-building (disasteriffic!) to give more creative insults now that she's a little older, and I generally use substitutes like "sweet Shiva" or "holy chocobos" in place of "oh my God" or "Jesus Christ" etc. And if she's really, really angry with you, she may just tell you to "go get sent."

Abilities/Powers:
Rikku is bilingual in a common tongue spoke in Spira as well as Al Bhed, a cypher-based language native to her people. It's clear from her abilities in the first game (where she customizes weapons and defense items, and takes apart machines in the heat of battle) that she is a competent machinist/engineer/artificer, and will likely be able to help design and upgrade weapons (provided she has the right materials, of course). Additionally, she has a history in both games of being able to "mix" items to create upgraded/home-made potions, explosives, and other helpful items; again, with the right materials, she should be able to do something similar. She is also an accomplished thief and treasure hunter capable of taking apart locks and stealing items off monsters and humans alike during battles.

Although Rikku is well-versed in combat and is capable of utilizing magic using her dresspheres, I am assuming she will not have access to the latter in Haven (at least, at this time). This is because "dresspheres" are items (magic spheres) that attach to another item known as a "garment grid" in order to be used. They change her default clothes, abilities, and default weapon to suit her job. Although she will not be arriving with her knives, Rikku is quite capable at using those weapons as well as a variety of others (guns, machines, staffs, swords) and can also fight hand-to-hand.

(These are two parts to the same thread, but because of the sequential way I posted one then the other, I needed to post both of them here to make sense. Whups!)

Sample Entry Two:
Haven: the name implied safety, a place to rest. Like Home. But for who? It seemed to Rikku, surveying the ugly, boarded up buildings (like patched eyes refusing to look at them) that there was something really, really wrong here. No explanations, no real residents—just the other people who had shown up here, just like her, kidnapped. And where were her knives, her dresspheres, all the little odds and ends and healing goodies she'd had before she wound up here? Gone, probably to that same place where the missing sock in the laundry always ended up. Or worse.

"But it's not so bad," she told herself. She'd taken to talking to herself out loud a little since arriving, at least when she was alone. It helped to make up for the awful, eerie silence of the place, made her feel just a teensy bit better. "At least there's everyone here, with you, and you're not alone…" But why? Why them? And why so many?

She had a feeling the answer wasn't going to be so pretty. Hopefully they'd be prepared by the time it came.

Note: If these samples are not satisfactory because of the limited range of emotions provided, I can link to other thread(s) with a wider range for your approval.

Previous Game History:
( exitvoid: a panfandom horror survival game. )
Draco was present on the island between July and December, and then again briefly in April; whilst the time ratio between RL and the game didn't match up 1:1, he was still on the island for a considerable degree of time. His experiences on the island haven't changed his core personality — he's still entitled, petulant and spoilt — but they have forced him to be a degree more tolerant of others, particularly those that are different to him. This is mostly in regards to muggles, and non-wizards/witches, and whilst he still has a knee-jerk reaction of believing muggles and other non-wizarding individuals to be inferior to wizards and witches, he's also aware that there are some that aren't. In essence, it's led him to dividing non-wizards into to parties: those he likes (and are therefore 'acceptable'), and those he dislikes (and therefore support the various prejudices and stereotypes he's grown up believing, although with his canon point and canon experiences in mind, as well as his experiences in Exit Void, they're not beliefs he clings to with the same degree of fervour he'd have had in his first five years at Hogwarts.)

However, as with canon, Draco is still prone to making exceptionally bad decisions and allying himself with the wrong people simply because they're people he's closest to, or because they offer an 'easier' route. Both his father and aunt were present on the island for a time, and when it became known that one needed four escape tokens to leave the island, his father and aunt led a raid against one of the dormitories — with Draco party, of course — in which they attacked and held hostage some of the occupants in an attempt to gain said escape tokens. It didn't work entirely as planned and merely led to the three being disliked by and alienated from various other inhabitants of the island, something that worked against Draco once the other two had left.

There were several characters that had an impact upon Draco and the way he approached life on the island, however, and they were:

Erik Lehnsherr. Whilst Draco was initially dismissive of Erik and the concept of mutants — he likened them to half-breeds, werewolves and other magical creatures — Erik took something of a 'tough love' approach in his interactions with Draco, something that pushed Draco to want to prove himself to Erik and, to a lesser extent, the island as a whole, to prove that he was more than just talk.

Rupert Giles. Whilst Draco was completely disdainful of Giles originally, and whilst Giles suffered in the attack against the dormitory, for whatever reason, Giles failed to hold it against Draco and frequently tolerated Draco's less-than-pleasant temperament. As a result, Draco found himself frequently turning to him to whine at him/air his problems.

Lightning Farron. SOMEHOW OR OTHER the two managed to become something resembling friends — after briefly bonding over having stupid names, and Draco being impressed with the fact that she's capable of wandless!! magic. As Draco is almost entirely reliant on his wand, she'd offered to teach him how to be a competent fighter without it, but he left the island before that could be followed through on.

Personality:
Draco Malfoy was born with a silver spoon in his mouth (figuratively, of course; literally would be an entirely different story, and one imagines things would have progressed slightly different if that were the case). It was this spoon that helped shape Draco into the far from fine and upstanding young man he became.

The son of Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy, Draco comes from a long line of pure blood witches and wizards, a fact of which his family has been, and remains to be, very proud of to the point of bigotry against individuals without known magical ancestry. As a result, Draco harbours beliefs as to the innate superiority of 'pure-blood’ individuals despite whatever evidence there may be to the contrary – indeed, Draco’s father remarks upon the disappointment and embarrassment that Draco should feel upon consistently receiving lower grades that the Muggle-born Hermione Granger, discounting and disregarding both the effort she puts into her work, and her natural talent. In fact, Draco seems to take a particular dislike to Hermione, her Muggle-born status aside, presumably as she is capable of showing him up – repeatedly – a fact which undoubtedly serves to dent his pride.

Despite his supremacist attitude, however, there are signs that he’s not as enamoured with the reality of being a Death Eater as early as Goblet of Fire. During the attack on Muggles during the Quidditch World Cup, Malfoy makes his appearance known to Harry, Ron and Hermione, and remarks on how Hermione ought to be taking more care, and elaborates on the attacks. Draco’s attitude – arrogant, lazy and dismissve – however, confirms that he has no real feelings invested in the matter of Hermione’s safety on a conscious level, and it’s clear that he takes enjoyment from the obvious distaste that the knowledge of the Death Eater’s actions create in the other three. It could therefore be assumed that whilst Draco enjoys the panic the awareness of Death Eaters cause in others, there is, even at this early point, a disconnect between the want for that same control and the ability to wield such power over others, and the willingness to engage in the acts that warrant it. Whilst it’s something of an extreme example, it shows that Draco prefers to have – and is wholly used to having – all the trappings of status without doing anything to deserve it.

First and foremost, however, Draco is a bully. He takes great delight in causing others pain and misery, and enjoys the power and control it allows him to exert over others. Like most bullies, Draco prefers his victims to be weaker than him in some fashion, and will pick on whatever weakness appears to trouble them the most. It is for this reason that, at least in his earlier years, Draco had such little trouble in bullying Neville Longbottom; as Neville was in possession of very little self-esteem, and was wildly self-conscious of his propensity to forget more or less everything, Draco had no qualms – nor difficulty – in latching onto this fact and exploiting it as and when he could. There are similar reasons behind his frequent mentions of wealth around Ron Weasley, and the latter’s lack of it. For better or worse – and it is generally for the worse – Draco is very gifted at pinpointing others’ weaknesses.

However, again like most bullies, Draco is a coward. Rather than stand up to those more powerful than him, he’d sooner get on their good side and gain some of their influence by proxy – this is most evident in his willingness to follow Lord Voldemort, of course, but to a lesser extent with his desire to have Professor Slughorn acknowledge him and his family’s lineage. This, of course, doesn’t extend towards all, particularly if their ideologies clash with Draco’s own, or if Draco perceives the individual in question as being weaker than someone else – such as in the case of Dumbledore against Lord Voldemort; in Draco’s opinion, Dumbledore is a weaker wizard both ideologically and in terms of power.

As mentioned previously, Draco is very skilled at pinpointing the weaknesses of others and as such, his preferred method of bullying (as it were) is psychological. When confronted with physicality or when he’s on the back foot, he’s something approximate to ‘useless’; this is most evident when Hermione hits him and when she threatens him with her wand, and also when Barty Crouch Jnr., posing as Professor Moody, turns him into a ferret. Draco would much rather attack someone when their backs are turned and he’s assured victory than he would attempt the matter on an equal footing.

With regards to this and in relation to his cowardice and burgeoning disillusionment with the Death Eaters and their work and methods, Draco appears increasingly reluctant to focus on the crux of his mission: killing Dumbledore. Lord Voldemort meant for Draco to fail in his task and for the occurrence to be punishment for Draco’s father, Lucius, on his failure to procure the prophecy relating to himself and Harry Potter. Draco, who is by no means an unintelligent youth, is likely to be fully aware of this – as is evidenced by the manner in which he spends his time and effort on fixing the Vanishing Cabinet located within Hogwarts as a means to allow the Death Eaters passage into the school to the detriment of his other interests, hobbies and even friends.

It is this that is perhaps most telling as to the shift in personality and awareness within Draco; at the beginning of the sixth book, he can be seen boasting about his task to his close friends and appears to have no qualms with it at all. As time progresses, however, he grows increasingly reluctant and despondent as the reality of the situation – and his life as a whole at that moment – sinks in, and whilst he seems to try to cling to the idea that Lord Voldemort chose him and him alone for the task because he was the best suited and capable, it’s clear that it’s nothing more than a distraction. Instead, the usually smug and superior Draco Malfoy can be found hiding in a disused girl’s toilet, relating his worries and fears to a ghost. Indeed, it seems to be that it is only the knowledge that his parents will suffer should he fail that allows him to continue with his task.

However, whilst Draco is certainly committed to his family, one is hard pushed to find anyone else that he truly cares about. His belief in the Malfoy, and subsequently his own, superiority means that Draco has very little interest in making friends with others; friendship implies equality, and Draco is somewhat loathe to view others as equals. His interests, as mentioned previously, lie primarily with status, influence and power, and he has little need nor want for anything that brings him neither. In accordance with this, Draco hates to be humiliated or be subject to anything that makes him look bad.

Whilst Draco has no regard for the friends and family of others, his own is utterly paramount to him, and once his father is sent to the Wizarding prison Azkaban for being found participating in Death Eater activities, Draco swears vengeance against Harry Potter, the individual he blames for his father’s imprisonment; in his eyes, his father can do no wrong.

Draco aspires to make his father proud and, as a result, takes many of his cues from the man, particularly with regards to beliefs and lifestyle. This continues even when Lucius is imprisoned in Azkaban and, in this respect, it seems reasonable to assume that beyond the fear of failure for failure’s sake and the punishment Lord Voldemort has hanging over his head, Draco is – at this point – having to contend with the knowledge that his growing distaste, dislike and fear of Death Eater activities and Lord Voldemort is in direct opposition of not only what he’d believed for many of his formative years, it’s also in opposition to the beliefs and values his father had sought to instil in him.

Of course, one can barely mention Draco Malfoy without also mentioning Harry Potter; when they first met, Draco, entirely unaware of who he was speaking to, was reasonably polite despite making some of his many unappealing traits visible – that is, that he’s judgemental and biased against non-Wizarding folk and Muggle-borns, as well as those who appear less sophisticated and urbane than those that he’s prone to approving, as it were. Later, once he’s aware that it was, in fact, Harry Potter that he’d spoken to, he goes out of his way to offer his friendship, which is promptly rejected. It could be seen to be this rejection – a short, swift, public blow to his pride and ego – that sparked off the enmity and rivalry between the two that would later grow into something more resembling hatred.

Draco is particularly skilled at compartmentalising his emotions, and it’s said to be this that enables him to be a Death Eater – at least, at the beginning – and it is likely that it is this trait that also enables him to be an effective bully. Receiving training from his aunt Bellatrix Lestrange, Draco is able to master the art of Occlumency – that is, shielding his thoughts from others – where Harry Potter could not. It therefore seems reasonable to assume that Draco has a fairly competent understanding of his emotions in a broad sense and, to a certain extent, others, but he doesn’t bother to consider anyone else’s feelings – except how to hurt them – believing it to be beneath him.

It helps, of course, where Draco has never had to bother ‘lowering’ himself to such a level, riding instead on the coattails of his father’s and his family’s reputation and status, and that what they were unable to gain through influence, they could usually get through their sheer wealth – such as a position on the Slytherin Quidditch team, which Draco received as a result of his father buying the entire team new racing brooms.

Despite all of this, though, Malfoy does have some vaguely positive traits (in that they’re more positive than cowardice and a penchant for bullying); he is an intelligent young lad, and it’s implied that he’s one of the top students in the year – behind Hermione Granger, of course, but still up there, and he has a fair degree of talent for subjects such as Potions and Transfiguration. If his actions are to be believed on face value, it seems likely that Draco has rarely struggled academically as he makes no bones of mocking those academically weaker than him, and there are no references to his own by other students beyond his arrogance and tendency to ignore professors he doesn’t believe are worth the time, such as Hagrid, when he teaches Care of Magical Creatures. Finally, it can be assumed that he’s a generally diligent student – when Harry believes it is Draco that is trying to bring cursed objects into Hogwarts, he shares his concerns with Professor McGonagall who responds by telling Harry his theory is impossible as Draco was serving detention with her for failing to complete his Transfigurations homework for the second time, an occurrence which is implied to be wholly unusual. Furthermore, although it’s later in the book than I intend on playing him from, Professor Dumbledore acknowledges Draco’s ingenuity in both being able to think of using the Vanishing Cabinet to get Death Eaters into the school, and going so far as to be able to fix it personally.

…In short, Draco is an incredibly flawed and generally unlikeable young man.

Personality:

When Charles is first introduced as an adult, he's very flippant about using his powers, treating them as an aid to pulling women in bars. Yet he's quick to anger with his adopted sister Raven when distress makes her hold on her disguise slip a little (her eyes change colour). The short argument that follows paints Charles as a hypocrite; Raven's observation that it’s “fine as long as the mutation is invisible” like Charles’ telepathy is a very good way of describing it. Because Charles’ power can be used freely without notice—and even if it is noticed, he can quickly remedy the situation—he does not have an understanding of Raven’s feelings regarding her outer appearance. Charles admits as much when he tells her that he doesn’t understand why she’s “awfully preoccupied” with her looks...even while he actively encourages her to hide her blue skin. This, coupled with Charles’ own preoccupation with appearances (in the society’s eyes), becomes a point of contention between the siblings as the film develops. Charles’ inability to connect with Raven on this point is a strange oversight on his part, considering his abilities, but makes sense when linked to a few other traits of his.

One such trait would be Charles’ sense of honour. Though his boundaries and morals can, admittedly, be grey when it comes to his telepathy, he does refrain from probing deeply into someone’s mind while happily giving himself access to the surface thoughts. The way he handles certain interactions indicates he values having consent, unless he believes using his abilities are necessary (i.e.: lives are in danger). While Charles does threaten to read Raven’s mind near the end of the film, he keeps himself from doing so out of respect for his promise to her, even when their altercations get more and more heated. A quick peek into her mind would probably give Charles enough information to work things out with Raven, but he opts to talk to her, giving her the chance to explain her feelings instead. Charles extends the same courtesy to Erik, as well, when they first meet, despite him being a complete stranger. It’s only when convincing Erik to let go of Shaw’s submarine (before he drowns himself) that Charles pulls up the memories. Even then, the choice is Erik’s to make: instead of forcing Erik to release the submarine, Charles takes the time to speak to him mentally. Charles’ sense of honour makes another appearance while he and Erik are training on the Xavier mansion grounds. Despite having seen a good portion of Erik’s memories already, Charles makes a point of asking him for permission before delving in again. With that, it becomes clear that Charles operates under some sort of moral code, though it probably doesn’t make sense to anyone but himself.

Stubbornness is another trait that contributes to Charles’ troubles with the other characters. While standing by one’s beliefs can generally be considered a good thing, Charles sometimes has too much self assurance, making it very difficult for him to compromise with the others. When he firmly believes himself to be in the right, very few things will get him to change his mind. In these instances, Charles can come across as arrogant or patronising—as Erik points out—even when he doesn’t mean to. This generally stems from his unwillingness to hear the other side of the argument. Again, this trait shows itself the most often with Raven and Erik. For Raven, Charles cannot comprehend her desire to be accepted in her blue skin because it wars with his desire to “be a part of society,” as Raven puts it. For Erik, killing for revenge, as well as aligning themselves against the “lesser humans,” are both ideas that Charles cannot condone. As a result, he resists their attempts to sway him from his initial opinions, making it seem inconsiderate of their feelings, when this is not the case.

His many shortcomings aside, there’s a reason even Erik and Raven, the two who quarrel with Charles the most often, still care for him. Once he has the chance to grow a bit, Charles shows that he has an abundance of empathy, optimism, and generosity to balance out his negative traits. Despite his earlier fun-loving, devil-may-care attitude, Charles immediately reorganises his priorities as soon as Moira brings the situation with Shaw to his attention. He’s very responsible once it comes down to it, and the well-being of the mutants he and Erik discovered out-weigh his own enthusiasm for learning about their abilities in the end. Though he and Erik spent so much time looking for the others, Charles was reluctant to risk their safety after the CIA base was attacked. Since the younger mutants wanted to stay—and also had nowhere else to go once the base had been destroyed—Charles opened his home to them, making sure they knew they were welcome there (“This is yours?” – “No, it’s ours.”). In addition to that, Charles also took on the responsibility of helping his new students grow into their abilities. While it’s true he and Erik needed the extra help bringing Shaw’s plans to a close, Charles still displays an admirable amount of patience and optimism, helping them overcome any obstacles they run into.

Personality:
Hei is known as a "contractor". He is notorious, as most contractors are, for being an apathetic, emotionless monster who was born only to obey rationale and carry out logical commands that he deems has the highest chance of success. He himself states in episode two that contractors are not humans, they are monsters, killing machines in human skin. "All they care about is self-preservation and they won't hesitate to kill anyone they see as a threat. They're liars, betrayers." Hei is no exception to his own words. He lies, he betrays, he kills. As an amoral assassin, this is in no way a concern for him so long as it keeps himself and his own goals alive. He has done horrible things and killed countless people; it has earned him the alias "Black Reaper" and it has stuck with him even before he gained his contractor powers.

Through the series he uses his team of mercenaries to search for Bai, his sister, under the guise of a true contractor; he completes jobs for a questionable organization known as the "Syndicate" in order to get information on his sister's whereabouts. His lying has made him infamous, considering the fact that he is excellent at it. It is through fallacies that he had gained another alias, "Li Shenshung" and he is often seen parading around as a kind, shy Chinese transfer student who enjoys helping others, but is rather introverted, keeping to himself most of the time. Hei, under the name of Li, uses his civilian clothing and average personality to get employment from businesses he needs to investigate for his true job as a dog of the Syndicate; he comes across to everyone he meets as a polite, charitable young man that gets wrapped up in things far over his head. This is on purpose, of course, but to the general populace he's a charming, but blundering do-gooder who always seems to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. An example of how he uses this alias for immoral deeds is a moment in episode two. "Li" saves a woman, Chiaki, countless times in order to extract important knowledge from her regarding contractors and their genesis, promising her they'd run away together to earn her trust. When the woman finds out he had been lying to her, his only response is, "I told you. Contractors are liars. I'm no different."

Initially, he appears to have little to no qualms about doing hellish things in order to get what he wants, but over the course of the series, we find out that Hei is not a contractor at all. As a human who has gained contractor abilities, Hei has a fair amount of feeling in him. From the outside we see a merciless murderer, a deceitful, selfish creature. But on the inside, at his very core, he is just a troubled brother who finds himself caring unintentionally about the people he comes across. Sometimes there are moments where he reflects on the things he has done, saying rather sadly that "It feels like I have killed a lot of people." His heart has always been in the right place, but to keep those he loves safe, he has cast away the majority of his sentiment for them to keep them safe. When people close to him get injured or their lives are put in danger, his personality shifts almost one hundred and eight degrees.

It makes him irritated, sometimes to the point of shouting, making emotional death threats a regular contractor would never blurt out, causes him to panic and worry. This is demonstrated in episode four when he discovers that a father had been testing his research and using his daughter as a guinea pig where he becomes irate, snapping at the man: "If you're looking for forgiveness you won't get it from me." Even if it is irrational, Hei will go out of his way and risk his own life for the lives of other, innocent people; if those people die before him, it torments him greatly and even pushes him to seek revenge, as seen in the episode a fellow contractor Carmine dies. This is why he is hesitant to form bonds with others as his job and status as a contractor is extremely dangerous for those close to him, so he keeps people at an arm's distance at all times. When Yin, however, a "doll" - an emotionless shell of a person who uses their spirit as a medium to track others - on his team, shows a profound connection with Hei, he bonds with her and treats her and the rest of his team as a precious friends that require his protection and respect.

To protect his comrades with all of his strength, he must have considerable talent to do so. Hei is not only skillful in the art of deceit and interrogation - as seen in the first episode where he is hurting another contractor to pull information out of him regarding the whereabouts of Chiaki's files on her prohibited investigation about the creation of contractors. He is highly perceptive, able to discern what exactly to do in any given situation, the best routes to take to get to areas faster and enemy weaknesses. He is an adept fighter, fabled for the mass murders he committed while in South America with another team of mercenaries, while simultaneously acting as a bodyguard for his sister. He wears a mask to hide his identity, a bulletproof coat to shield himself from harsh attacks and is quite knowledgeable concerning his own abilities. Molecular manipulation (or electricity, as his powers are mostly recognized as) takes a great deal of concentration and understanding of elements and their constitutions - he has shown great intelligence in using the hired gun expertise he has picked up along the way. He is not a mindless killer. Everything he does is precise, has meaning.

And while it does not have much bearing on his personality, Hei has an insatiable appetite, having the ability to eat over ten bowls of ramen or multiple dishes of food in one sitting. This is remarkably noticeable in the anime, to the point where it makes most viewers believe that he eats ridiculous amounts because it is his "Obeisance" - a payment all contractors must complete after they use their abilities. This is not the case, he is just a bottomless food pit. As Li Shenshung, he acts quite embarrassed when others point out the quantity which he consumes, often blushing and looking away as seen in an early episode when he states, "Did I overdo it? Sorry, this is actually less than I usually get." In some scenes he is seen cooking; he is quite diligent and takes the time and effort to make lovely meals for himself even if he has no one to share it all with. It is clear, throughout the anime, that he evens enjoys this small pass-time, likely because it is so much more normal and peaceful than his usual activities.

Abilities/Powers:
First off, Hei is a phenomenal athelete, acrobat and hand-to-hand combatant. He has amazing speed, power and agility, can take hit after hit without struggle, has good dexterity dealing with knives and the metal cords he uses as weapons. Things like swinging from wire off of tall structures, backflips and cartwheels are as easy as breathing to Hei; not only does his adaptability and the flexibility he demonstrates in various fighting scenarios make him skilled in martial arts, it is said that his human abilities are so advanced that he can take on a contractor even without his powers with little physical strain.

Hei's true ability is known as "molecular/electricity manipulation". He is able to generate and discharge electricity through conductive resources such as water, metal and physical contact "at sufficiently high amounts to kill grown men" or mess with a building's electrical systems, an example being the computer-programmed door locks that hold Chikaki in episode one. He uses this ability frequently to carry out the jobs he's given by the Syndicate, but there are different levels of output. It is more complex than it seems; he can transform matter on the quantum level, not just use electricity to shock people or run a charge through something like the metal wire he uses. His power uses something called "special particle luminance", which can change molecules, one of the notable ways of changing humans into contractors, though for Haven's purposes, it will solely be the electricity that he demonstrates. It is the most powerful ability in the anime as it is extremely relevant to the plotline, but the ability itself belongs to his sister. He just inherited it when his sister fused with him because of it.

Hei, unlike other contractors, does not have an Obeisance associated with his power. This is because he is still human. One who fused with a the previous molecular manipulating contractor. His sister, Bai. He took her messier code - a unique title for each contractor and the fake star in the sky representing their lives - BK-201. She, as well as her power, resides inside of him, letting him use it at any time he likes as he has no price to pay.

Character Name: Tohru Honda
Canon: Fruits Basket
Canon Point: Anime Canon, post series
Background/History:
Here is the wiki.
Previous Game History: N/A
Personality:

Tohru Honda is pretty much guaranteed to be one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. She's polite, caring, and considerate. If someone needs help, even if they're a total stranger, she'll do her best to lend them a hand. And if they're a friend, then Tohru is the type to go above and beyond the call of duty. And she won't even spare a thought for her own inconvenience. When Valentine's day came, she spent so much money on chocolates for her friends, that she didn't have enough left over for school expenses, and had to work extra hours to make up the difference. And when Kagura was repairing the damage that she had done to the house, Tohru had no problem staying up all night to help her finish. She even made sure to bring Kagura something to eat.

Tohru is also very sympathetic to others and tries hard to be emotionally supportive. She tries to see every conflict from every point of view, even deciding that the girls that pick on her at school can't be that bad because they also like Yuki. She barely knows Hatori when she's sitting on his porch and shedding tears for his tragic lost love. She manages to see the conflict between Yuki and Kyo in a way that neither of them could, and tries to explain it to Kyo using an extended riceball metaphor. Which doesn't completely work, but it's the thought that counts. She's even willing to give Akito a chance, despite knowing about many of the horrible things he's done.

But when it comes to her own problems, emotional or otherwise, Tohru usually keeps silent. She really hates to be a burden on anyone she knows. Even the thought that she might have troubled someone bothers her a lot. When her Grandfather's house needed remodeling, instead of asking her friends or admitting she had nowhere to stay, she began secretly living in a tent in the woods. When people offer her help, her first reaction is usually to apologize and insist that she'll be fine.
If they persist, she'll accept their help, and will be extremely grateful. Even if it's something simple, like helping her study for a test. She also has a hard time accepting gifts, worrying that if she asks for too much, heaven will punish her. When Uo suggests that Tohru ask Shigure to buy her a few more pieces of furniture, she nearly panics, saying that he has done more than enough for her already. And she absolutely refuses to allow Shigure or her Grandfather to pay for any of her school fees.

But the Sohma's are persistent, and keep taking her on trips and giving her things that would seem like small gestures to most people, a ribbon, a trip to an onsen, etc. But to Tohru these things are so extravagant that they make her feel like a princess. Also generally modest, Tohru is quick to turn down a complement. Although she is equally eager to give them out to other people. It really doesn't take much to impress her. Everything from Shigure's silly romance manga to Kyo's riceball making technique is held in nothing short of awe.

In addition, Tohru is not very smart and extremely naive. She'll believe almost anything, even accepting some of Shigure's outrageous lies without question. She also seems fairly innocent, not quite understanding things such as what Haru could show the class president to prove his natural hair color. While they were alone. In the bathroom. (Yeah, he just dropped his pants.) And she tends to do poorly in school grade-wise, despite always trying very hard. School is very important to Tohru though, because her mother had always wanted her to finish high school, and she would do anything to keep this promise with her mother. Speaking of her mother, Tohru was very close to her and still carries her picture everywhere she goes. She can often be seen talking to it, believing that her mother can hear her in heaven.

In short, Tohru is the type to always put herself before others. She is kind, gentle, and understanding. As a result of this, she often makes friends very easily, even with rather difficult people. And, despite not being the brightest crayon in the box, she is actually very wise. Often her advice will turn out to be just what someone needed to hear.

Abilities/Powers:
Haha none. Tohru is about as normal as they come. She's not all that smart, and physically she's kind of clumsy. She does have impressive domestic skills though, being good at cooking, cleaning, and mending clothes. Perhaps that will be of some use...?

Sample Entry:
Here is an old thread from when I played her in Mayfield.

Sample Entry Two:

"Oh! There's one!"

Tohru reached into the back of the cupboard she'd been rummaging through and emerged with a large metal pot. She stood and carefully set in on the counter, peering at it thoughtfully.

"Well, it is a little dirty. But once I clean it up it should work just fine!"

Determined, she set to work scrubbing out the pot with water she'd drawn from the well. On the counter next to her was a small assortment of canned food and non perishables. She'd spent hours scrounging around for it all, and was pretty proud of her efforts. Placing the pot next to her improvised ingredients, she looked them over, her brows knitting thoughtfully.

"I just hope it's enough for everyone....."

Tohru had met a lot of really nice people since her arrival in this town. So many of them had been so kind and helped her out a lot that she felt like she had to find some way to repay them. It wasn't much, but perhaps a home cooked meal would be a start. Of course, looking at the strange assortment of ingredients in front of her, she wasn't entirely sure if the soup she planned would be any good.

"Let's see.... Tomato paste, peas, corn, beans, mushrooms....."

She reached for a small box behind the cans.

"And these dried noodles... Yeah, this should be enough. As long as I do my best, I'm sure it'll taste fine. All I need now is some more water!"

Smiling, she grabbed the bucket and headed back toward the well.

permissible: (Default)

[personal profile] permissible 2012-10-17 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality:
“A skilled Assassin ensures his work is noticed by the many,” Altair states early on in the game, and true to his statement, Altair is probably the LEAST subtle assassin you could have come across. More than that, Altair is arrogant, self-assured, and very serious. What makes Altair interesting, though, is his incredible personal growth. BUT, given his early ass canon point, we won’t see too much of that... at FIRST.

At the very start of the game, we see that Altair lacks respect for the three Tenets that guide the assassins. These tenets are as follows: stay your blade from the blood of the innocent; hide in plain sight; and don’t compromise the brotherhood. Altair basically SUCKS at these rules, in fact; in the opening to the third game, he promptly slaughters some random old man that happened to be in his way, very obtusely reveals that he’s trying to assassinate Robert (leader of the Templars), AND manages to attract the Templars to Masayf (the assassins’ headquarters.) Why in CRIPES name would he do something that stupid even. WELL…

Altair is one of the best assassins in the brotherhood. In a conversation between Al Mualim and himself, Altair comes to the conclusion that Al Mualim has no one as talented to complete the job given to Altair. He knows full well that he is skilled, and because of his skill, believes himself to be superior to others. He isn’t afraid to tell people off if they bother him: when asked to assist with a training session, Altair’s quick response is “You’re in my way.” Again, when Al Mualim is reciting the Three Tenets to Altair (shortly before his demotion), Altair is perfectly A-OKAY with back-sassing Al Mualim. He cuts off his mentor and finishes his sentence in that “I know, I know” fashion, regardless of the fact that Al Mualim is OBVIOUSLY pissed. Malik describes Altair as arrogant. His arrogance also makes him very unpopular within the brotherhood, one Rafiq mentioning that many of the other assassins speak slander of him. Does Altair give a fuck? N o p e; he even straight up says he doesn’t care what the other assassins say about him. If he gets his job done, that’s all that matters.

In in speech patterns, Altair is curt and to the point. No ‘Well, I think if’ or “Maybe possibly;” he gets down to what he wants to say and wants to know, no ifs ands or buts. He doesn’t like dilly dally and prefers to stay on course. As mentioned before, when someone attempts to side track him, Altair is quick to tell them they’re in his way. He generally responds more to people than he initiates conversation. When reporting information, he gives only the necessities, and is quite often assured of his plan. Altair is not a man to hesitate or second guess his actions at a critical moment.

Despite his arrogance, Altair is not a complete brute, and we see Altair certainly more complex than that. Despite being an assassin, Altair is capable of pity. When seeing that his friend, Abbas, was sad that his father had died, Altair attempted to explain to Abbas what it was that happened, despite having been told by Al Mualim not to. When it enraged Abbas later in their training, Altair attempted to quell Abbas’s great anger by admitting that he had lied (though this is not the case). Abbas remained forever angry with Altair. Altair, on the other hand, seemed unaffected. Going back to what was mentioned earlier: what people think of Altair does not affect him, and despite their cruel words, he does not blame them or hate them for what they believe. In some cases, he will point out that the slanders are unnecessary. When Malik attacks his character, Altair points out very plainly: “you and I are on the same side, Malik.”

Altair also takes pity on his targets. With each assassination Altair completes, Altair takes the time to speak with his target that they may repent for what they have done; a strange in their age as assassins. Altair explains that no man should part from this world without knowing some kindness. There are no doubt more reasons behind why Altair does this; in the first game, with each assassination he would inquire his target as to why they did what they had done, and through it he learned a great many things. Eventually, what it was that his targets told him leads him to the discovery that Al Mualim is not the righteous fellow one might have believed he was.

Altair questions all things so as to understand all things, and even what he understands he questions. Call him a skeptic, if you will. When he learns what he does from his targets, Altair is keen to inquire his mentor as well. So, seeing as Altair will be ZIPPED off to another world, he will not doubt question it in turn, as well as all those around him. While it may be hypocritical, Altair is also just as inclined to simply follow the orders of Al Mualim, even if he places doubt on them.

SO!!! What does this all mean for his canon point? A lot of which I’ve mapped out are subtle things that will grow into Altair’s character, such as his piteous nature, or his habit to question all things. What we will see is Altair’s tendency to be arrogant and rude. He’ll jump into action blind to consequences. Regardless of this, Altair has great potential to grow and change as a character and show many other qualities as he develops.

Abilities/Powers:
Like any assassin, Altair is a fighter sort. He uses a number of different tools and techniques to hunt down his target. He has no super human abilities. AS SUCH! The basic stuff... He's skilled with a knife and blade, stealthy, excellent at blending with a crowd, a good climber, AND decent in a fist fight.

The only real "super power" Altair has is his Eagle vision, which would allow an assassin to see things hidden from the untrained eye, such as finger prints on a touch pad or words written on a wall. It also allows Altair to identify friend and foe, as well as targets. It's not like SUPERMAN HAS X-RAY VISION more like "Altair can notice things a lot of folks couldn't."

DIARMUID UA DUIBHNE | FATE/ZERO | RESERVED 2/3

[personal profile] loyalknight 2012-10-18 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality: Before he is a servant and before the grail war Diarmuid Ua Duibhne is first and foremost a knight. He is well-known for his strict adherence to the knight's code, to the idea of honor and chivalry even when in battle with ones most hated enemy, and would rather face humiliation at the hands of his own master rather than betray his pride by acting out against these self-imposed laws. This sense of righteousness is most heavily revealed by the distress Diarmuid often exhibits in relation to the betrayal he was forced to commit against his original lord Fionn. It is a betrayal that spurred on his wish to be summoned by the grail out of a desperation to make amends for his past so that the Heroic Spirit can rest in peace. And yet, despite these dark internal grievances and almost as a consequence of his modest rules, rather than becoming a completely humble knight Lancer instead possesses a cocky attitude possibly obtained due to a charming personality and because prior to his death he held the most honorable role of becoming the Head knight of the knight's of Fianna.

It is this nature then of a rather highly-spirited, calm, and almost idealistic man which sticks out most of all in terms of his personality. For even after he became cursed with the love-spot he still did his best to live out his days to their fullest potential and without regret. No matter how much pain and emotional turmoil he had to bear for betraying Fionn and running off with Grainne in the end he truly believed that those day's spent with them were the best and he could never hold a grudge against either of them for their hand in his inevitable death.

It is also this very charismatic attitude which is shown off almost as soon as Lancer is introduced within the series. At the very beginning he casts out a challenge to the other servants, endeavoring to bring them forth from their hiding places and to face him in a way which he had deemed to be more honorable. Yet - to his initial disappointment - only one answered his call. Thankfully his disappointment is quick to change into an almost ecstatic thrill upon the discovery that his enemy is one who is every bit as noble and prideful as he himself is. They exchanged blows and in those moments Lancer began to shine as a fighter fully capable of taking down even the heroine of the show when given the chance.

Unfortunately as the story progressed Lancer soon began to change and even almost weaken as the reality of his situation became more and more serious. When fighting Saber at the beginning the male is almost playful, like that of a puppy who is thrilled with the new toy his master has given him, yet when new servants begin to arrive and Kayneth steps out of the shadows to shame the knight's pride with orders that went against his personal doctrine Lancer learns that the world he imagined was not the reality he lives in. Anger, an emotion quickly becoming more and more common to him, lights up his visage consistently and pain begins to permeate throughout his entire being every moment he is forced to bear the humiliation for actions which he deemed to be below him and dirty.

Unfortunately, despite his strength and despite his promises to Kayneth, Lancer is powerless to the degradation he is forced to endure time and time again by his jealous and highly egocentric master. It is during these moments that his past - and its burden of dishonor and powerlessness - are revealed to show just how little Lancer thinks of himself as well as how forgiving, trusting, and unlikely to seek vengeance he is even against those who hurt him for events out of his control.

For, in the end, he is a man who bears the burden of those he cares about no matter the consequence to his own emotional and mental state.

Abilities/Powers:According to the Fate Zero stat's sheets Lancer posseses B rank Strength, C rank Endurance, A+ rank Agility, D rank Prana, E rank Luck, and B rank Noble Phantasm. To put in more simpler terms this describes that when it comes to close quarters, melee combat and against Servants who rely heavily upon their magic Diarmuid excels. He ties within first place as the fastest Servant and is one of the physically strongest within the fourth war. However, his weaknesses lie within his prana supply and in his luck. Lancer most notably has the worst luck out of all the servants but is able to at least combat his limit of prana by receiving as much as he wishes from his master's fiance thanks to a spell Kayneth concocted before his being summoned. This is of great assistance to Lancer even more so thanks to the strong Noble Phantasm's he possesses within his spears the Gae Buidhe and the Gae Dearg.

The Gae Dearg or 'Crimson Rose of Exorcism' is the Noble phantasm contained within Lancer's longer red lance. It is a spear which is able to nullify any kind of magecraft protection and serves as a type of 'anti-noble-Phantasm'. Which inevitably means it cannot be defended against except by physical means. For example within Fate Zero the armor each of the servant's wear were all created by magic so when Lancer reveals the red spear it is able to go right through Saber's armor to pierce her side. Unfortunately this is the limit of the spear as it can not undo the effects of exchanged contracts or curses completed within the past. (Meaning it is powerless to undo his Mystic Face curse.)

The second of these lances is the Gae Buidhe or the “Golden Rose of Mortality'. It is this spear which serves most often as Lancer's trump card as it is a weapon which inflicts injuries that cannot be healed by either medicine nor magic. An example of this is how, after Saber discovers the uselessness of her armor against the Gae Dearg, she dispels her armor in order to gain the benefit of easier movement. However, unknowing of the curse within his second spear, she walked right into Diarmuid's trap and lost the use of one of her hands when he managed to strike her with the Gae Buidhe. To make matter's worse for the female the only way that the curse can be broken is by either destroying the Gae Buidhe or by killing Diarmuid himself (as is later shown in an act of chivalry by Diarmuid when he snaps the lance in half)

However the lances are not the only magic Diarmuid can use. The servant also holds two more abilities which are considered more innate in nature. The first of these is his 'Eye of the Mind' ability. This ability, which is strengthened depending upon a fighter's experiences, enables Diarmuid to keep a calm, analytical mind - even when in danger - so as to deduce an appropriate course of action to better his chance at winning. It is explained that so long as there is even a 1% chance at a comeback this ability greatly increases that winning chance.

And then, last but not least, is the ability which defines the Heroic Spirit's very existence. When he had been young Diarmuid had made the crucial mistake of sleeping with a woman who was the personification of youth. As a result the woman cursed him to bear a spot (aka mole) which causes any woman who looks upon it to fall instantly in love with the male. This is how Diarmuid of the Love Spot gained his name and how he eventually lost everything when the curse caused his lord's fiance to fall in love with him. The only way a woman can resist the curse is by either being a servant themselves or by possessing their own high magical resistance.

Character Name: Fran
Canon: Final Fantasy XII
Canon Point: After Fran and Balthier’s escape from the Bahamut.

Background/History: http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Fran

Previous Game History:

More than fifty years ago, though she’s much older than that, Fran left her home Eruyt Village deep in the Golmore Jungle of Ivalice. The viera lived solitary lives, shutting out concerns of the outside world and preferring to live within the wood. Fran didn’t see the sense in this and longed for her freedom. Cutting ties with her village and her two sisters was the hardest thing she’s ever done, but the longing for freedom was too strong. Over time, she lost many of her innate viera abilities as a result of leaving her home, though her senses were still keen to some things humes were not.

Decades later, she met a young skypirate named Balthier, who had a similar love for freedom as herself. Even if it made little sense, she chose to trust the hume and the two became reliable partners in pirating ever since. Fran served as the first mate and engineer of the Strahl, Balthier’s airship. He couldn’t ask for a more trusted and capable companion.

During a raid of Rabanastre Palace’s treasury, she and Balthier met a young thief named Vaan, and as the palace was attacked by the rebels, the three escaped together. Later, they’d come to find that a rebel named Amalia was actually the presumed dead princess of Dalmasca and the adventure spiraled forward from there.

It was a dangerous quest, and there were times when Fran lost her usual composure. As a viera, she’s very sensitive to the magic known as the mist, but with the help of her new friends and her ever constant companion Balthier, Fran pulled through with the rest. She aided her friends in saving Dalmasca, even going so far as to remain on a falling ship with Balthier to prevent its destruction of Rabanastre. Though Fran was injured during the ships destruction, they both made it out alive.

Personality:

At first glance, some might be intimidated to speak to or even look at Fran, as she has a very cool demeanor. Some might call her aloof, and they wouldn’t really be wrong in that assessment. She doesn’t typically crack a smile, though the glint of one can appear now and again, particularly in the company of friends. Viera are just typically this way. They are a solitary people. Even conversations among each other are not regularly sought. As a viera, their only necessary companion is the wood. Though Fran has left the wood behind, her detached viera personality remains, which makes her a little hard to get to know.

Viera are a proud people and it’s hinted that they are among the older races that exist in Ivalice. At one time, viera roamed the world more freely, but when younger races began to expand, the viera found peace and solace in the lush environments of the forests, jungles and other secluded places. Fran is a proud viera who typically speaks with a confident tone. She isn’t afraid to let her opinion known, either, and sometimes even a hint of sarcasm is present; particularly when Balthier or Vaan has bitten off more than they can chew.

Viera are capable fighters and Fran is among one of the best of her village. Few have seen and experienced as much as she has. Though breaking from her village has cost her much, she has gained a great deal as well. She is a fierce fighter with a variety of techniques, and she isn’t afraid to go into battle. She has lived a long life, so perhaps her advanced years has aided her in her confidence and strength of character.

There are time when the break from her village leaves Fran feeling a bit lonely. She knows that she has cast away everything that made her a viera. Her senses are not as sharp as they used to be. Her affinity with the earth is not as keen. And most regrettably, she can no longer hear the voice of the wood. Viera are able to hear the wood’s voice, and the wood is like their mother. Part of Fran knows and fears that the wood hates her for leaving people and village behind, but even if she regrets it at times, there’s no turning back. Fran can never be of the viera again. Her existence would be far more miserable if it were not for the company of Balthier, who has given Fran the companionship she needs.

Abilities/Powers:

Archery and Weapons – Fran’s traditional weapon is a bow and arrow, which she is very adept at using. She’s an excellent marksman and can capably hit her target. However, she is also skilled at a variety of other weapons and can pick up things quickly. One learns a lot in over 50 years of living. In the game, she is the only character that receives a title: The Master of Weapons. This is an indicator of Fran’s overall versatility as a fighter; however, she will lean towards her bow in any case where it’s available.

Senses – A viera has stronger senses than the humes of Ivalice. Although she can’t speak to the wood anymore, Fran is very sensitive to the mist, which is composed of magic. The concentrated mist can drive Fran to berserker behavior. In addition, her senses are also more sensitive to sounds and to smells. Her large rabbit ears and nose are very keen.

Engineer and Pilot – Fran is the official engineer of the Strahl. She is very good when it comes to all manner of mechanical things and specializes mostly in engines and things that can get her and her partner off the ground. She is also often seen behind the wheel of contraptions like a flying motorbike. Fran is an excellent pilot, even if Balthier is the designated captain.

Sample Entry:

[The video feed turns on and the woman who shows her face hardly appears normal. Maybe there’s something wrong with your feed because it appears she has a pair of white rabbit ears. When she speaks it’s with a notable accent.]

This place is strange. I know not where I am.

If someone were to give direction to Rabanastre, you would have my thanks.

Or perhaps someone has seen my partner?

His name is Balthier.

He is a pirate. A sky pirate, to be exact.

I think you would know him if you have met him. He is not overly fond of discretion.

[And Fran is not overly fond of lengthy conversations, so she waits and hopes she will get a quick and exact reply. Perhaps someone listening to this would be good enough to help her.]

Sample Entry Two:

It was somewhat ridiculous to Fran that she and others were trapped here. A sky pirate trapped on the land? This was not at all usual. Granted, a sky pirate needed a ship to sail the skies freely and no such machine existed here, but all the same, she and Balthier could usually manage to be on their way. No amount of ingenuity seemed to do good now, though, and that left Fran feeling a little nervous. Not that anyone could tell. She was as cool headed and expressionless as always.

So what was she to do? The only thing she could do was settle in for the time being. The apartment block was the designated place, and as she looked around, she wasn’t particularly impressed. Though really, she’d had poorer accommodations before. She and Balthier did not always stay in the most luxurious of places. Pirates tended toward a rougher side of town when they spent time in one.

As she looked over the interior of her room, Fran frowned just a little to herself. One hand settled on the curve of her hip and she sighed.

“What good is that?”

The thing she was referring to was the hume sized bed that was supposed to belong to her. Granted, there were humes that met her 6’2” height, but none but other viera could boast about their ears.

Other Characters Played: Any other characters you play at Haven.
Preferred Apartment: If you have no preferred apartment, just put None.

Character Name: Carl Grimes
Canon: The Walking Dead
Canon Point: 2.13 Beside the Dying Fire
Background/History: Carl Grimes had a relatively normal childhood up until the age of twelve, being raised by his mother and father Lori and Rick Grimes. He went to school and did everything any average kid his age does.

When the series starts however, Carl's life takes a complete turn for the worse. It all starts when his father is shot in the line of duty, being the Deputy Sheriff for King County. Rick goes into a coma, and Lorie is left to tell Carl the bad news when he gets out of school. It's revealed later that at the hospital, Carl insists on donating his own blood to do anything to save his Dad.

Not long after Rick enters the coma, the zombie apocalypse happens. Literally, the dead start to rise and attack the living because they are hungry, and there are the sincerest apologies for how un-serious this portion sounds. How else does one put the zombie outbreak; everyone's biggest fear in this day and age, after all? But to move back to the serious part of his history, Shane takes the two of them away from the city after informing them that Rick is dead.

On the road, Carl makes friends with a girl named Sophia Peletier, another survivor named Carol's daughter, and in his sadness over his Dad seems to hang out with Shane quite a lot as well. Not much else is seen of him until the group, and Lori and Carl, reuinite with Rick Grimes after a portion of their group get stuck in Atlanta during a supply run.

The next day, while Sophia and Carl are out playing, they accidentally come across a walker. The group comes to their rescue immediately, killing it. Later, Carl is catching frogs with Shane in the Lake when Lori makes him return to camp, because she is angry with Shane about his lying about Rick and doesn't want him near Carl.

Rick ends up leaving with Daryl and T-Dog to save Daryl's brother from being handcuffed to a building in Atlanta, and to get a bag of ammo Rick lost as well. Carl is seen telling Lori in the tent that he's not worried, that his Dad came back to them once already and he would again.

The morning after Rick and the others depart Jim, one of the surviving group, starts digging holes up on the hill. This leads to a group confrontation, because it's just too weird, and frightening to the kids. Jim ends up apologizing to Carl when he is tied to a tree, and Carl doesn't seem incredibly bothered by the weird behavior once they have him tied up.

That night, a group of zombies find their way to the camp and attack the group, making them lose two more of their group members. Carl and Lori escape from the general pandemonium though, despite the odds of surviving in the woods at night like that. Rick returns with the others and the guns just in time to clear the camp and ensure everyone elses survival.

The next time Carl is seen, it's when they're getting ready to leave for the Center for Disease Control, and he says goodbye to another family that had been in the camp, because of their decision to go find their family elsewhere. When the group leaves, and makes it to the CDC, at first they're stuck outside of the secured building surrounded by walkers with no hope, but after Rick screams into a camera to please help them, the doors open.

The CDC at first seems like a paradise to the survivors, they all enjoy hot showers and meals; Carl even tries a little bit of wine at the dinner table. He is later seen playing checkers with Sophia in the rec room, just before being shooed off to bed by Carol.

Soon, the power starts to fade out and Dr. Jenner, the man in charge of the CDC, informs them that the facility will explode once the power all runs out, that it's on a timer to make sure nothing from inside gets out or vice-versa. Carl holds onto his mom and cries, clearly not wanting to die this way, and having to witness his Dad begging for their lives. Eventually Jenner lets them free, and Rick uses a hand grenade to bust the windows so they can escape just before the entire building goes up.

The group then heads to Fort Benning, but they get stuck on the crowded highway not long after after Dale's RV breaks down. While looting cars for any parts or supplies, Carl finds an entire set of nice knives and is forced to hand them over to Shane. Not long after this, the group realizes that an entire herd of walkers are headed their way, and they all hide under the vehicles abandoned on the highway. Carl's friend Sophia ends up getting chased by one off of the highway and into the woods, and Rick follows to try to save her.

Sophia ends up going missing, and the group starts an extensive search of the area the next day. Just when they think there are no signs of life around, a church bell starts ringing in the distance and the group heads that way. After the group finds that the church bell is a recording on a timer and that no one is around, the group decides to split up. Carl convinces his Mom to let him go with Shane and his Dad to look for Sophia while she goes with the others.

While walking in the woods; Shane, Rick and Carl come across a buck in the woods. When it doesn't run away right away, Carl goes ahead and starts to approach it, finding it totally cool that there is still normal wildlife. Then a gunshot rings out, and the buck and Carl both go down. This is when the group meets Otis, a man who was hunting in the woods, and he tells Rick to take Carl to a farm nearby.

Rick runs the entire way with Carl bleeding out in his arms, Otis and Shane following behind slower. When they get to the farm, they meet Hershel, a former veterinarian. He tells Rick and Shane that Carl needs surgery immediately because there are at least five pieces of bullet inside of Carl endangering his life. Rick insists that Lori needs to know, but Shane stops him from leaving because Rick is the only one with the same blood type as Carl and he needs to have him there just in case he needs more from him.

They send Maggie, Hershel's oldest daughter, by horse to find Lori in the woods, and she brings her back to the farm. Not long after, the rest of the group arrives, and they discuss the fact that Hershel can't operate on Carl without putting him under, but putting him under will mean he can't breathe alone. Otis and Shane offer to go and find the necessary medical supples from the elementary school, where a makeshift hospital and safe house had been made a while back.

Shane ends up killing Otis on their outing to ensure his own survival, leaving him to be eaten while he limps away with the bag of supplies. In the meantime at the farm, Carl has a severe seizure, and Hershel informs them that if Otis and Shane don't return soon they will have to do something. This prompts a private conversation between Rick and Lori whether or not Carl should even be living in this world. Lori wonders if maybe it would be better to just let him go, but after Carl wakes up briefly and tells her how beautiful the deer was, it seems like she seems to calm down on that front.

Shane finally returns, and Hershel gets to the work on Carl. The surgery is a complete success, and Carl starts to recover almost immediately. At one point right after it, Carl wakes up and asks his Dad if Sophia is okay. Rick lies to him, but when Carl wakes up again and Lori explains to him why he lied about it and Carl tells her that he understands. Later on, he talks to his Dad about them having both been shot, and is gifted his Dad's Sheriff's Deputy hat.

For a while after this, Carl is mostly seen around the house or the campsite recovering. He also convinces his Mom and Dad to let him learn how to shoot a gun, and they agree when he seems to grasp the reality and seriousness of what actually firing a gun is. He is also seen arguing with Shane about finding Sophia, because Shane clearly thinks that Sophia is long gone or dead. He insists that they shouldn't leave until they find her.

Shane agrees, but later that day he ends up flipping out about the walkers Hershel is keeping in the barn and lets them out. Carl, Lori and Hershel's group all watch in horror as the rest of the group is forced to put them down. Just when the group thinks that all of the walkers are dead, another one comes out of the barn and it's revealed that Sophia was turned and stored in there as well. Rick shoots her in the head, and Carl is seen crying in his mom's arms at the loss of his friend.

The next day, Carl tells his Mom that he wished he could have been the one to find Sophia, alive, but he would have done what his Dad had to do the day before too. He attends the funeral of Sophia the same day as well, accompanied with a few others in the group while the others get rid of the other bodies from the barn incident.

Carl isn't seen a whole lot after this, only being present for Shane spilling the beans on Lori being pregnant after she goes looking for Rick and gets into a car wreck. The group also brings Randall to the farm, a kid who was with another dangerous group, who had a shoot out with Glenn, Hershel and Rick at the bar after everything happened at the farm.

When Shane tells Carl that Randall's fate isn't any of his business, he sneaks into the barn and meets Randall himself. Randall tries to convince Carl to convince the others to let him go, but Shane intervenes before he can really get to Carl. After getting in trouble for sneaking in there, Carl runs into Carol who tells him that Sophia is in heaven. Carl tells her that it's stupid to believe in heaven, and ends up being told by Rick to man up and apologize. Carl goes off subject, hounding his Dad about what he's going to do about Randall and asks if he's going to kill him. Rick tells him that he needs to just worry about making his end with Carol right.

Carl, seemingly being mad about this, goes to Daryl's end of camp and gets into his back, taking his pistol. Then he goes into the woods where he finds a walker stuck in the mud. Carl sits down and throws some rocks at it, and when it gets free he goes to shoot it but gets scared. Carl leaves the woods and the walker, never telling anyone about it.

Later on, the very same walker gets a hold of the groups oldest member, Dale, and Carl and the rest of the group find him in a field suffering. Carl realizes that the walker on the ground is the same one from the woods and turns to his Mom while Daryl shoots Dale. The next day, after Dale's funeral, Carl finds Shane and gives him the gun. He tells him what happened, asking him not to tell his parents, and Shane in turn tells Rick about it, giving him the gun and telling him to get his priorities straight with his kid.

Rick finds Carl a little bit later and talks to him in the barn. He makes Carl take the gun, telling him that he wishes he could have a normal childhood, but he can't. Carl doesn't want to take it at first, but he does, understanding what his Dad is telling him.

That same night, Carl is seen looking out the window of the house, seemingly watching Shane and Rick in the field. He sneaks out to go find them, but when he comes up on his Dad he sees that he has blood on his shirt and that Shane is a zombie behind him. Carl raises his gun and aims over his Dad's shoulder, struggling with taking the shot on Shane and making his Dad think that he's actually going to fire at him. Rick begs him to put the gun down and Carl shoots Shane in the head over his Dad's shoulder.

The shot fired attracts the herd of walkers nearby to come to the farm, and before Carl can get his answer on what really happened to Shane, they realize that they're right in the middle of the hoard. Rick and Carl run into the barn, where Rick gives Carl a lighter and tells him to torch the place when he gets the walkers inside. They lure them in and light the barn on fire, making an escape by the RV Jimmy parks out front. Jimmy gets eaten, of course, but luckily his death makes way for Carl and Rick to get away from the blazing barn.

They come up on Hershel near the house and save him from a walker, before deciding that the farm is too overrun and it's time to go. They make their escape and head back to the highway where they had originally stopped. Here, Carl tells Rick emotionally that they have to go back for Lori, that that's MOM. Hershel, on the other hand, tells Rick that Carl is his priority and that going back is a bad idea for the safety of his boy. As they stand there debating on whether or not they actually lost the rest of the group, they all pull up and regroup. Here they find out that they lost both Jimmy and Patricia, but for the most part the group seems just relieved. They kill a walker before deciding to leave.

Not long after, Rick's vehicle runs out of gas and they're forced to stop on the side of the road. The group insists that they can't stay, and argue for a minute before deciding to make camp when Carl says he's cold. The next time Carl is seen, he is sitting at the campfire with Lori away from Rick while the group debates to themselves whether or not staying there is a good idea. This prompts Rick to lose it, and he tells the group that he didn't ask for this, and that they can feel free to leave. That he killed his best friend for them, and they SAW how Shane was. Carl is shocked by this news and starts crying into his Mom's chest.

Previous Game History:N/A

Personality: The first and most important thing to be noted about Carl's personality is the fact that this boy has been forced to grow up way too fast. Being one of the only children left in the zombie apocalypse, Carl has learned to be tough both inside and out. He seems to be a pretty normal boy considering the circumstances, however, being seen playing with Sophia before her death and by himself in the woods. Carl is very adventurous, and brave at that, being seen taunting a walker by throwing rocks at it after stealing Daryl's gun and wandering off from the group.

Carl is also a very blunt child, being seen asking any questions he wants to no matter what the subject is and also being seen telling Carol that believing in heaven is stupid despite the fact that she just lost her daughter. It's like the boy sees the group struggling and therefore thinks he has the right to be involved in it all as well despite his age. As the series goes on, he seems to become more involved with the group politics themselves despite this though, and he seems less and less afraid to put his own opinion out there with the adults'.

This being said, Carl is very smart as well. Of course, any child is prone to make mistakes, but living in the world that they live in it's not something they can afford to happen. His survival instinct is rather impressive for a boy of twelve, and Carl almost seems to want to do more for the group too. He convinces his parents to let him learn how to shoot a gun and to let him carry a knife, and later is seen shooting Shane in the head to protect his Dad with only a little bit of hesitation.

Living in the world he does is certainly tough on him, and Carl definitely has guilt eating at him in ways that none of the adults would really understand. Because of his taunting a walker, Dale was killed and that alone was enough to make Carl almost want to not shoot a gun. But after his Dad makes him take it, something seems to change a little bit in Carl, like he knows it's time to grow up and protect himself and the others despite his age. Carl tells Shane about it, but for the most part it seems to be something that Carl is dealing with on his own. Having been forced to shoot a reanimated Shane as well, Carl is learning to deal with the burden of having to put walkers down; which is easier said than done for sure. Walker or not, they were once a person and Carl definitely believes this. Rick tells him that it wasn't Shane that he shot, and Carl tells him that it used to be, hinting that even though he had to it was still one of the toughest things he's ever had to do.

This leads to Carl's protective, 'big brother to the world' attitude. When Sophia goes missing, he insists on searching for her despite how dangerous it is, and even after his accident where he gets shot he still insists that Sophia is alive and needs to be looked for. He believes in keeping the group together, and especially keeping his family together now that they all have each other again. Carl would do anything to make sure any person within the group was safe, whether or not it was from a walker or someone else within the group.

Abilities/Powers: Carl is a normal human boy, however living in the zombie apocalypse has definitely toughened him up. He can shoot a gun, well enough to shoot Shane in the head from at least 30 feet away, use a knife to defend himself and is smart enough to get by on his own, probably. He is also great at finding places to hide.

Sample Entry: [It took Carl a few minutes to figure out how the phone worked, it had been a very long time since he'd used technology like that after all. The only things they had that were electric anymore were cars and flashlights, for the most part.

Once the boy figured it out, he had to take a second to figure out what he would actually say. Anyone who was listening would be a stranger, and it made Carl a little bit nervous...although regular people would never be as bad as walkers. That thought right there has him clearing his voice to address anyone who might be listening.]

Um... my name is Carl Grimes, and I'm looking for my parents. We're not supposed to split up anymore, but for some reason...[A pause, and then Carl continues, trying to sound as calm as he can. Even though he is inwardly freaking out already.] My Mom is Lori Grimes, and my Dad is Rick. If you have seen them, can you tell them I'm here? Thank you...

[With that, Carl hits the end button. Time to look for himself, now, because just sitting here isn't going to get him to his parents any faster. Even if he knows his Mom would tell him to stay put until he was sure he was safe.]

Sample Entry Two: The sun was starting to go down, though the light was still enough that Carl wasn't worried about being alone in the barn. It was kind of creepy to be hanging out in here after Randall had been kept captive here, not to mention the walkers that had been in the barn before that, too.

Carl was in the loft, staring out over the farm as he frowned hard, thinking to himself. Shane had yelled at him and told him he needed to keep the gun, and even after Carl had calmed down he still didn't really want one. It was his fault Dale was dead, and his fault only. If he hadn't had gone out into the woods that day and taunted that walker, he would still be alive right now.

On the other hand...he did understand though. If he had been out there without a gun and something had happened to him? Well, Carl would be another Sophia to the group. But the thought of being the reason someone else died had him sighing again as he thought about the whole mess.

If anything, all of this just made Carl miss the way the world used to be. When he could watch movies and play games with the kids on their block. When he wasn't having a loaded gun shoved into his hands to defend himself from things that wanted to eat him.

The boy turned when he heard footsteps coming up the ladder to the loft, and Carl frowned a little bit as he realized it was his Dad. That meant that Shane told on him, and that just made Carl feel even crappier about it all. Shane said he wouldn't tell and he did! What a jerk.

Carl turned back towards the farm, slumping a little bit in his spot as he waited for it. Don't take people's things, you have to be careful at all times...yeah. Carl knew. If he wasn't in trouble for this? He would eat his own pillow tonight.

Character Name: Sherry Birkin
Canon: Resident Evil
Canon Point: Post-game
Background/History: Here.

Personality: Sherry Birkin is nearly a flawless embodiment of the traits expected of a government agent — compassionate, careful, strong, and astoundingly determined in her endeavors.

While Sherry confesses to having been too young to fully comprehend the entirety of the situation, the incident in Raccoon City seems to have played a large role in shaping her personality. Sherry appears to hold the two individuals who rescued her — Claire Redfield and Agent Leon S. Kennedy — in high regard, deeming them the two closest friends she possesses. She admires them greatly, though Claire has primarily served as a role model, having regularly visited Sherry even while she was under the guardianship of Derek Simmons. According to the unlocked files in Resident Evil 6, Sherry aspires to model herself after Claire, considering the other individual to be a "strong, capable woman" — which isn't too unlike Agent Birkin herself if her achievements throughout the game and the eleven years in which she endured being tested and experimented on are any indication of the strength lurking within her. Given how fiercely she battled to protect Jake Muller and the world from the C-Virus, Sherry certainly could never be considered weak.

Like Claire, Sherry seems to have acquired an overwhelming desire to protect those she cares for. As a special agent, her assignment is to locate Jake Muller, a brash mercenary with the antibodies for the C-Virus coursing through his veins, and while his safety and the vaccine are of the utmost importance, Sherry endures numerous, precarious obstacles to ensure he remains secure due to her kindness. In Simmon's own notes, he depicts Sherry as being incredibly "charitable", and such a trait is evident in her behavior. She fends off the Ustanak several times, ventures through a snowstorm, flees from a facility operated by Neo-Umbrella amongst several other feats but, most notably, she's shown to place herself in the line of danger in order to assist others. Before meeting with Simmons, Sherry orders Jake into promising that, if Simmons proves to be as untrustworthy as Leon claims, he'll flee. It's a promise he later breaks, much to Sherry's chagrin, but her good-natured intentions are apparent. In addition, she becomes distraught the moment Piers Nivans and Chris Redfield insist they'll create a diversion in regard to an overpowered BOW, thereby permitting Jake and Sherry to escape an underwater facility. While Sherry is hesitant to allow them to struggle against the monster, she opts to follow their instructions after Jake reminds her of their mission.

However, as cautious and kind as she attempts to be, Sherry's naivete is likely her biggest and most evident flaw, and even Derek Simmon's notes describe her eagerness to assist and trust others so effortlessly as "sickening". Having been rescued by him, Leon is an individual she would trust without hesitance, but the moment he accuses Simmons of playing a role in the production of the C-Virus, she questions Leon's claims. Only after they've fended off the Ustanak does she inform Leon of where she'll be meeting with Simmons and, even then, she appears to be relatively cautious. She comes to believe those claims, however, approaching her meeting with Simmons with suspicion — and yet she appears shocked and bemused when he himself admits to his role in the bioterrorist attacks. Nonetheless, Sherry is still relatively intelligent and wise in spite of her bouts of naivete, though her goodhearted nature is a magnet for trouble.

Overall, Sherry is a genuine individual with a heart of gold located within her. While she isn't without her imperfections, her intentions are always sincerely kindhearted.

Abilities/Powers: Due to a mutated strain of the G-Virus within her, any wounds Sherry suffers can be healed within mere seconds. The virus itself gives her regenerative / accelerated healing and an immunity to most viruses.

In addition, Sherry is well-versed in both armed and unarmed combat, which is likely due to her training as an agent.

Sample Entry: [ The feed turns on to display a view of the ground, the sound of shoes clicking before it shifts to reveal the phone's owner. In the background, the notorious billboard can be seen. ]

My name is Sherry Birkin, a new... citizen, I guess, of Haven. If anyone can answer some questions for me, it would be appreciated.

[ It's best to get that introduction out of the way before her attention is diverted to the situation at hand, even as she wanders throughout the streets. ]

Normally, kidnappers are a little more dramatic than this. [ She pauses briefly, glancing to her left. ] Has anyone actually seen our supposed captors or spoken to them? I thought they'd be a little more.... direct about what they want, or at least more direct than watching us from the shadows.

[ She shifts, peering down at the well. ]

And I'm sure this has been asked before, but the water — has anyone determined if it's safe to drink? I figured I'd ask before trying it.

[ She attempts a soft smile, but to the perceptive eye, it may appear a bit forced. ]

Thanks for the help.

Sample Entry Two: The silence of the room differed vastly from the hum of a plane engine or the tapping of a keyboard, but the sounding of an alarm ringing loudly in her ears had been the key to startling her from the deep slumber. She roused with a start, grasping her head in an attempt to prevent the room from spinning as her eyes focused on her surroundings: six beds, all seemingly vacant for the moment. Her hands clutched loosely at the sheets adorning her own bed, heart hammering in her ribcage as she rapidly searched her person. No weapons, as to be expected, but that kind of came with the territory of being kidnapped ( again ). The cell phone was neglected for that moment — likely bugged and trying to track her movements, but such a device would be useful after her own exploration of the landscape.

The entirety of the apartment seemed peculiarly normal, aside from how tattered the furniture appeared to be. There was nothing worthy of noting as she rifled through various drawers, withholding a sigh as she pocketed one of the several kitchen knives. It was better than wandering the streets completely defenseless, but it still did nothing to alleviate her unease in regard to the change in scenery.

In Haven, we are all safe.... together.

After exiting a strangely empty apartment, the eerie, tattered billboard hadn't been the most pleasing sight to stumble across, she had to admit, eyes narrowing in the slightest as her eyes studied their smiling countenances. Yeah, definitely not a comforting view in the least, especially when coupled with the numerous piles of rubble scattering the streets. It looked like the painted image of a warzone, desolate and in ruins. Her lips shifted downward, forming an uneasy frown as she shook her head, shifting her attention elsewhere — namely the well located beneath the billboard.

Her hands busied themselves with the pulley, rotating until a bucket appeared, filled to the brim with water. Good to know for future reference, she noted. If the buildings were anything to go by, food and water would be in large demand unless it happened to be laced. Knowing her previous captors, she wouldn't really be that shocked by that tactic.

Regardless, the distinct lack of individuals she'd bumped into thus far raised a great deal of suspicion. She hadn't anticipated a welcoming party, but there had to be someone lurking nearby, catching the smallest glimpses of movement from the corners of her eyes.

"Hello?" she called out, eyes searching the area as she made a step backward, intent on returning to the apartment building as the sun began to descend toward the horizon. No answer, no movement — and she wasn't particularly fond of sticking around until midnight to explore, retreating to the apartment while mentally reciting plans to continue her search as soon as the sun had risen.

Character Name: Shirou Emiya
Canon: Fate/stay night
Canon Point: Some time after UBW route (3 months)
Background/History: http://typemoon.wikia.com/wiki/Shirou_Emiya
Personality: It hasn’t been long since Shirou’s biggest issue with his inner complexity was resolved.

Ten years ago, Shirou (real last name unknown) was caught in a tragic fire that slew countless innocent people. The cause, unknown. The perpetrator, unknown. His eventual fate, all too inevitable and all too soon. After running through the closest thing to hell on Earth, Shirou let himself collapse onto the ground as it began to rain. But like the stories of angels, the man known as Kiritsugu Emiya discovered him half dead amongst the ruins and saved his life. Adopted by his savior and taking on his surname, Shirou then devoted his life to being just like his adoptive parent; a “hero of justice”, if you will.

Coincidentally, Kiritsugu was himself anything but a hero of justice.

Nontheless, Kiritsugu oversaw his development over the next five years until his death from what appeared to be heart failure. In truth, it was a curse that had been placed upon him during the aftermath of the mysterious Holy Grail War, of which he was a participant. Left under the care of Kiritsugu’s landlord as well as said landlord’s granddaughter, Shirou never let go of the principles he feels he inherited from his foster father.

“Hero of Justice”. Such a cliché, yet one Shirou believed in more than anything else. This single minded devotion to this ideal would later come forth to backstab him.

As far as Shirou’s personal profiles go, he can best be described as a little rough around the edges and blunt but he’s also straightforward and kind hearted to a fault. When the “guests” at the Emiya household start to become more numerous, we’re given a first person window into his mind and see it’s not a concern to him at all. To some, they would appear as petty freeloaders. To Shirou, they’re welcomed members of the household he’d actually prefer to have living in his house. The fact they’re all girls does come into conflict with his self proclaimed guardian, Fujimura Taiga, the aforementioned granddaughter of the landlord.

Brief glimpses into his mind would reveal that the ironies of being a Hero of Justice aren’t lost on him, at least initially. Shirou believes a Hero can save everyone yet ultimately in the end, not everyone can be saved. Duh, right? The exact principle he believes in, however, is far more cynical than would be initially perceived: a “Hero of Justice” can only save the people that are from the side he fights for. That said, if a war were going on--gray vs. grey morality--then this “Hero of Justice” would only be a hero to whichever side he or she was fighting on. To the other, they’re a mortal enemy.

The Holy Grail War begins and it’s hardly a pleasant experience. Shirou is left with his adoptive father’s Servant, Saber--a familiar who used to be a legendary hero from the past. Unfortunately, it is through this possible outcome of events that Shirou truly learns the extent of the word “hero”--or, rather, one’s perception of it.

That is, a “hero” can be a hero to one’s side, but even then that could be subjective. For example, while Ieyasu Tokugawa could be considered a hero in Japan for aiding and then ultimately presiding over the unification of Japan after terrible wars rocked the land for decades, it mustn’t be forgotten that he sacrificed and murdered and backstabbed as much as any other warlord at the time to achieve this. In fact, technically, it means he was even better at it than his competitors!

This plays out to Shirou as if it were his worst nightmares. One of the seven Servants--Archer--takes a particular disliking to him the instant they met. The feeling is entirely mutual as Archer isn’t exactly the nicest or well mannered individuals despite being the Servant of Shirou’s official ally, Rin. At every turn, Archer is there to chide him for his youthful idealism or even outright trying to kill him. Archer insults Shirou constantly, calling out his basest ideals and his naïve outlook on life. Much less a big brother figure and more an archrival.

Or, more accurately, his future self.

Having come from a future where he lost everything, Shirou Emiya aka the Servant Archer was given the chance to undo his very existence by killing his past self to spare both of them the pain of trying to live up to an impossible dream. The moment he realized this, Shirou then understood everything. Why he hated Archer, mocked him back for every insult, and why his style of mage craft was similar. Archer was the realization of Shirou’s perception of a Hero of Justice and hated him all the more for it. At the same time, he hated himself for the so-called “Ally of Justice” he could very possibly become. But through this immense self hate Shirou found a new resolve: his ideals may be flawed, but justice was still very much worth fighting for and there would be no way he could ever lose to himself.

This would be his new ideal. That Justice could be served, but it should not always take precedence over one’s own life (or others, should it ever come to that).

Since surviving a disaster he feels he had no reason to survive, Shirou has virtually no sense of self until his fateful encounter with Rin inside the Einzbern mansion. Through his story, Shirou shares with Rin that his life is worthless because he should’ve died a long time ago. It is through harsh words and even being pulled by his collar that Rin shouts back at him that, since it was a miracle he lived, he should treasure the gift that he was given and not squander it so. This marked yet another turning point in his life--learning to value his own life.

On a more romantic side of things, Shirou isn’t as dumb as he looks when a female is involved. Now normally he would believe that a woman fighting was not traditional and should be avoided. Sexist this may seem, Shirou quickly dismisses this thought when growing closer to Rin, his ally. A magus far more knowledgeable and powerful than he could ever dream, Rin Tohsaka is from a long line of magi and is a genius in the craft herself. What’s more, her headstrong and intelligent personality wipes away any sort of sexist idealism he could think of. Her attitude probably helped.

He also knows what to say to someone when it needs saying. Having cornered himself and Rin into a proverbial wall where the only option towards increasing Shirou’s mana capacity and a chance at victory was to “get naked”, Shirou at first brushed this notion off and hesitated because of a much more understanding point of view. While he does have feelings for Rin (which are entirely mutual), he is at first brashly against the idea of sleeping with her in order to gain power. Then, in a more somber tone, admits that while such copulation had crossed his mind more than a few times because of his attraction, he wanted it to be purely as a show of affection and not some due course of action in order to win a war. Needless to say, that earned him a kiss on the lips.

Shirou believes in fair treatment but isn’t a pushover in any debate. If he knows something is wrong, he knows exactly why and he is perfect in expressing himself to others and almost always has a strong point.

Since meeting himself and getting a talking to from Rin, his “hero of justice” thing takes on a whole new veneer. While he is perfectly content with fighting for his sense of justice, he is perfectly aware of the flaws in his borrowed ideals but is firmly convinced that it is still worth fighting for anyway and he must always be aware of what the goal of justice is--an end to conflict.

Abilities/Powers: Magi, but ranks incredibly low even by his age’s standard of magical practice. Possesses such an abysmally small amount of mana in his circuits that fueling many spells beyond the basics would prove difficult. However, Shirou possesses a keen knack for strengthening magic and projection magic (aka the ability to conjure weapons and items from memory, temporarily). As a matter of fact, despite being a below average magus, he also possesses a Reality Marble, a sort of unique limited reality warping power that can exceed even some of the most powerful Magi alive. This Reality Marble also is the reason Shirou can use projection magic so easily and with as little mana as possible. His ability to almost instantly analyze a weapon and copy it is also because of this power.

Each Reality Marble is unique to a person, and in Shirou’s case, is known as “Unlimited Blade Works”--the power to make a near perfect replica of even legendary weapons from centuries past and wield them with the skill of the owner. If he expends a sum of mana at once, he can fully activate Unlimited Blade Works and supplant the surrounding reality with his own, inhabited by only himself and those nearby him. In this new world, a seemingly endless field of discarded weapons, Shirou’s ability to project legendary weapons boils down to just picking up any of the nearby replicas and use them, rendering the already low cost to project them to practically zero. A weak point in this power is that since Shirou has a very low mana capacity, he cannot use the unique powers of the weapons he creates unless it is something that has an inherent power that requires little to no mana to use, such as Rho Aius and Rule Breaker.

Sample Entry: “Trace….on

[A light in his head turns on. The flow of mana that courses his circuits becomes alive and, with its power now freed, Shirou Emiya imagines a sword in his head. It was a breathtaking weapon to behold--a tight, black grip; a pitch black blade that reflected light ever so beautifully; it was an Eastern-style sword, the tip curved back ever so elegantly.]

[What was once in his head was now in his hand.]

[He observes the fine craftsmanship, carefully prodding through every single detail.]

“I can trace it, then I can create it…and now it’s a part of me.” [Shirou carefully lays the sword down at his side as he looked at his hand. What was once numb with power now felt at ease. Funny, it felt even more at ease when he was holding the sword.]

“I don’t know what’s going on…” [Something resounded around the interior of the building, much like something tripping over a garbage can and squealing like a cat. Only it was far worse sounding than a cat.]

“I haven’t learned very much of anything here. No one like me has arrived here, things I’ve never seen. Nobody I’ve ever known is here. But I can’t just leave it at that, can I? Not me.”

“Trace….on

[Another weapon he had seen before--it popped into his head in an instant. A white sword…and then a black one of an exact shape but different color. These were his swords, Kanshou and Bakuya. Not but a few seconds after thinking of them did their weight suddenly heave in his hands.]

“Projection…complete.”

Sample Entry Two: …it’s locked.

Scavenging through the wreckage of what appeared to be a tenth grade high school--not unlike the one he suddenly left behind--the door to the supply closet was locked as tight as they get despite the wear and tear.

His compatriots had taken to exploring the other parts of the school--one to the office building, the other went to the cafeteria kitchen. Shirou Emiya had opted to look for spare tools and parts in the supply closet that a janitor would normally use. Inside might offer some useful items to fix other things with, or spare bulbs to use, or any other odd, useful trinkets. The lock, however, was on tight.

The idea to project Kanshou and just slice the lock off was processed but never put into effect. For in the back of his head, he heard a certain young lady’s voice echo with words of wisdom and admonishment--”Are you going to project for everything? A task this simple just requires a little creative thinking, not wanton brute force. Use your head, Emiya-kun.”

How angry that made him. How he would hate and yet love to hear her voice again…

He equipped the tire iron he was carrying on his back, just underneath his bag. “Analyze…strengthen…” Bit by bit, a small portion of magic inserted itself into the iron of the tool until it became even stronger than titanium. With nary a swing of his arm, he broke the lock off with ease.

“Alright…now let’s see what’s inside,” he said whilst opening the door…

Rick Grimes || The Walking Dead ~ Reserved ( 2 )

[personal profile] theleader 2012-10-23 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: This personality contains spoilers for Season Two of the Walking Dead. Just figured I'd give y'all he heads up.

Rick is a Caucasian male, approximately 5' 10" tall and about 170lbs give or take. He's should probably be a bit heavier, but he was wounded in the line of duty, he is in a coma when the apocalypse occurs. He's lean, tall, with an athletic build. Handsome with a strong jawline, green eyes and brown hair. He was a sheriff's deputy from King County, Georgia prior to the outbreak and normally wears his department issue cowboy style hat and uniform.

Rick is a 'good ol'boy'. He's intelligent, calm, a great father (his son is Carl Grimes.) and friend. He has flaws. While he is not a man of faith he is a man of vision. His vision for the most part looks at situations as either black or white and tends to lean heavily on his own personal morals, letting them influence his decisions; which do not often end up being the right decisions. Though, he is rapidly evolving into someone who is a bit more…realistic.

In the beginning, Rick depended heavily on the opinions of his best friend and wife. While he may depend on these opinions, often asking them what he should do, that doesn't necessarily mean that he always does what they say. He knows what has to be done, what should be done and how to do what needs to be done, but he needs conformation from those that matter the most to him to make sure he's making the right decisions. Eventually, things come to a point when Rick realizes that the good of the group depended on him being able to solely make the difficult decision on his own.

He's willing to take on new members to their group, the more people to help the better; even if the burden of keeping them safe weighs heavily on him. He believes that life is a gift worth cherishing and because of that he isn't afraid to make the hard decisions. He tends to lay the majority of that responsibility on himself. Possibly a throw back from his days as a Deputy, or may just be his personality, but Rick feels that it is his job to take care of everyone. He's the leader, even if not entirely by choice, and since everyone looks to him, does what he can to make the best decisions for the entire group, even if these decisions involve risks to himself or the others. Because in his mind the risks are worth the reward if there is even the slightest chance for survival.

Rick’s best friend, and for all intents and purposes, brother was Shane Walsh. They were partners before the Dead started Walking. Shane was the man who left Rick in the hospital and blocked the door to protect his BODY. Because he thought his friend was dead and he was going to do SOMETHING to keep those monsters from eating him. They were friends, partners. But most of all they were brothers, and while they may not have agreed all the time, they still had each other’s backs. Toward the end of Shane’s life he was not himself.. and Rick for what it’s worth TRIED his damnedest to save his friend, but no matter how much he tried to reason with him, to talk to him Shane had lost hope and left Rick with no choice but to kill him. There was a moment there that you could see him in that other Shane’s face. You could see him, but there was something else there that made Rick follow through with what he did, because you could see that he hesitated. He did. Even if it was just a blink he thought maybe… But he’d given him a chance he’d given him two. And Rick knew.. that next time he wouldn’t be so lucky.

It’s clear that having to do so had a serious effect on Rick it hurt him deeply to have to essentially put his best friend down. He sobbed and cried, he screamed in anguish over the body of his friend tell him that this was Shane’s fault, because he had to say something to help ease his own pain, even if it didn’t help him at all. He cradled his face. He watched him die and in those final moment he saw his Best Friend there. He saw his best friend in that man that was laying there, and at the very end just KNOW it was killing Rick that he couldn’t take it back.

They were FAMILY. They ALL were, Rick, Shane Lori and Carl. I could see them… having barbecues on the weekends. Rick and Shane watching football games together. Shane being there for Carl’s birthdays…And for something like that to come to such a horrible tragic end.. I feel for Rick. I feel SO bad for him. People say that Lori is the one person who he could count on to have his back, I think they’re wrong. I think Shane was the one person he could always count on to have his back and then that started to slip away. They started arguing more and more. They couldn’t agree. And Rick TRIED to save him. He did. That’s what makes this even harder. Even after Shane tried to kill him when they were trying to ditch, Randall, even AFTER that he STILL TRIED to save his friend. HIS BROTHER. (I’ve said that before but that doesn’t make it any less true.)

That’s the kind of man Rick is.. The kind of man that exhausts ALL his options before doing the one thing he was trying so desperately to avoid doing. Only when he had no other choice did he kill him. Because it was ALL he could do.

Rick manages to get as many of the survivors to safety after a herd of Walkers comes through the farm they had complacently make their home on. They had ALL gotten used to the idea that they were safe there and in one night they found out just how wrong they were.

Even after saving them and getting the group back together, because they still doubt him and at the very least one of the group (Carol) tries to get Daryl to stand up and take the lead against Rick. Which Daryl refuses to do because he believes that Rick has done everything he could do to take care of them. The others though.. they seem to doubt him.

All the THINGS he’s done for them? All the sacrifices he’s made? And they’re still ungrateful enough to question whether he’s doing the right thing or not? He’s right. He’s doing what needs to be done. For the GROUP. How can they not see that he’s been doing that the whole time? From the beginning.

And no, he didn’t ask for it, but they gave it to him and even though he was reluctant he accepted it. And he’s done EVERYTHING for them. For ALL of them. And still the stand there and question him. They question his motives.

This main argument arises basically because there are some who think that they should go back to rescue one member of the group, Rick refuses to allow it. He could have let Daryl go back for her, but in truth? He NEEDS Daryl not only for what he brings to the group in the form of protection, but now without Shane he needs someone to lean on because LORD knows he can’t lean on Lori..

No he doesn’t send anyone back for Andrea, because in the end is it really worth sacrificing the lives of the others to save one? In this world? It’s never better to risk the living to search for the potentially dead.

In the course of this heated argument, he tells them all that he killed his best friend to protect them, thus shocking the group into believing that he will do ANYTHING to protect them. And now they know. They ALL know, what lengths he’s willing to go to keep them safe. How far he’s willing to go to keep them ALL together. The protection he’s willing to give them ALL if they’d only shut their mouths and SEE him for the leader he is and not doubt him.

Rick is evolving, he’s changing but he continues to have the interest of the group in mind, and not just himself or his family. He realizes after they lose the farm that… they need to find a secure, place to stay. Someplace they can fortify and build on, and that becomes part of his new motivations.

Character Name: Helena Harper
Canon: Resident Evil 6
Canon Point: Post Leon's Epilogue
Background/History: "Why did this have to happen?"
Previous Game History: n/a.
Personality:

Introduced as a mysterious Secret Service agent, Helena's motivations are immediately questionable; she claims to be guilty for the death of President Benford, who had succumbed to a virus only moments earlier and been shot by Leon, expressing a want to be incarcerated so that she may atone for her crime. Agent Hunnigan, an agent of the FOS and contact of both Leon and Helena, reassures Leon that she means no harm and vouches for her capabilities. Helena claims that she will explain everything when they reach the cathedral; when prompted why she doesn't just spill the beans, she says it will be 'easier to show him' and that 'he'll have all the proof he needs'.

Truthfully, Helena is a woman with strong convictions and morals. Always out to fight for justice and do what is right, she has a go-getter attitude and likes to handle things on her own. Previous to the game, she worked in some form of law enforcement, and, while investigating a series of murders, she solely tracked down the killer. However, Helena is the type to live in the moment and allow her emotions to get the best of her; she is extremely impulsive, garnering her energy from split decisions and whims. She used 'excessive force' with the suspect, which followed with her suspension from the force. However, due to her raw talent and conviction, she was referred to the Secret Service. Helena is emotional, and despite being a very steely, powerful woman, she isn't the type to conceal what she's feeling; she will openly cry in front of Leon, such as when they are forced to kill her sister.

A woman with such powerful, black and white morals can have a difficult time when put in a situation where her loyalties conflict; this is exactly what happened to Helena only a few days before the start of the game. Knowing that she was meant to be President Benford's bodyguard, Derek Simmons kidnapped Helena and her sister, Deborah, who was to be used for incentive. She was to sabotage President Benford's speech at an Ivy League school, and, if she didn't, they would infect her sister. She reluctantly agreed. However, she felt such guilt for what she had done, that she betrayed Simmons, ran to her fellow Secret Service members and warned them. However, they doubted her intentions due to her past actions and failed to carry out Benford's evacuation in a timely manner. As a result, he, as well as the rest of the school's student body and staff, were infected, and in Helena's eyes, it was all her fault. It was a definitive jab to her conscience, and she was prepared to take full responsibility for it.

A good way to describe Helena and her interactions with others is that of a 'loyalist'; she is quick to be suspicious of others and their own motives, and prefers to stick to her own agency, along with the select few that she feels she can confide in. For a long time, the only one she felt she could do this with was with her sister, who is cited to be her only remaining family member. Fiercely protective of her, she would do anything to save her from her fate and being involved with the carnage and chaos that comes with zombies. For a while, she even is apprehensive to let Leon in, giving him a cold shoulder at times and being very vague. By the end of the game, though, she realizes that Leon is a person she can trust, as well as a life long companion; she even goes so far to give him dating advice and get involved with his personal life. Helena is a good friend to have, it just takes a while for you to climb to that status. This can extend to 'friends of friends'. Though initially distrustful of Ada, she comes to place some form of faith and confidence in her because she seems to be connected to Leon somehow.

In many ways, during the course of Leon's campaign, she acts as a foil to Ada. Ada, who is more calm, collected, and with elusive morals and motivations, is almost the exact opposite from the brash Helena, who wears her heart on her sleeve and proudly proclaims her goals. As such, they can clash a bit, though in the end, they work together because of their common goal as well as shared trust in Leon.

Even though she has seen murders and cruelty in her line of work fairly frequently, nothing had prepared her for facing actual zombies. She is still a rookie, having only been in the Secret Service for a year at the start of the game. As such, she reacts incredulously to the chaos, often disbelievingly claiming that it 'Can't be real' and questioning why it had to happen.

Her fear and uneasiness at dealing with zombies and high stakes situations does not cause her to relent, however. Helena has an unflappable will and fierce determination. Extremely goal oriented, she will stop at nothing to attain what she needs to. For half of Leon's campaign, she is solely focused on getting to the cathedral, to the point that she gets angry with Leon whenever he stops to handle something she feels is fruitless, like attempting to save people being attacked by zombies. For the rest of the game, she is focused on her vengeance against Derek Simmons, as well as stopping him from his all-out B.O.W genocide.

In the end, Helena is not one to ever betray her convictions. In the epilogue, which takes place some months after the events in Tall Oaks, she is still prepared to lose her position with the Secret Service and take full blame. She wasn't even going to fight for her position back. If it weren't for Leon and Hunnigan, who pleaded for her to be exonerated of her 'crimes', she would be without a job with the government. Helena is a capable person, one who draws strength from her weaknesses, and someone who has deliberate principles. Not even the death of her sister nor a zombie outbreak can change that.

Abilities/Powers: While Helena is a normal human with normal human capabilities and limits, she does have a few abilities not everyone shares; as a secret service agent, she is trained and proficient at marksmanship with various weapons, from shotguns, to sniper rifles, to basic handguns. She has heightened stamina and endurance, able to run at high speeds and enact highly acrobatic wrestling moves, like drop kicks. Physically and mentally, she is in top condition, and the secret files even cite that she was at the top of her class and first choice for the CIA.
Sample Entry:

USSS Agent Helena Harper speaking. Whoever you are, I'm not playing any of your games, so cut the bullshit and tell me what you want. [ an angry shake of the phone. ] Does this discarded junk even work? Ugh! This is unbelievable..

Pull yourself together, Helena. [ she mentally coaches herself a few feet away from the phone, which is now lying on a coffee table. A moment later, you can hear the phone being picked up. It seems she's returned. ] If anyone else is available on this network, please, give me any info you have. I'd really appreciate it.

( dear_mun thread )

Sample Entry Two:

The first thing that had occurred to Helena when she woke up was to yank her PDA out of her pocket. "Hunnig— What?" She murmured. Amidst her adrenaline rush, she had failed to notice initially that this cell phone was not her PDA. No, instead it was a dingy, beat up smart phone — nothing like her high-tech, government issued one. "Ugh. What the hell's going on?" She slams the phone down on a nearby coffee table, then slides back down to the bed, placing her head in her hands.

She had to say, never in her short time with the Secret Service had she been truly alone on a mission. Whether it be virtual support through Hunnigan, spiritual support through Deborah, or physical support through Leon, she always had someone there to help her along. This was different, unsettling. It also wasn't a mission. It didn't take a genius to realize she'd been kidnapped. She was just about tired of kidnapping, though. What reason could it be for this time?

In the end, Helena resolved to find the answers to these questions instead of sit and ponder them.

They'd taken all her weapons, even her concealed sidearm, so first order of business was to find some manner of protection. Slipping into the kitchen area, she rummages through drawers and cabinets. "Not a damn kitchen knife in sight." She sighs, placing he hands on her hips firmly. It looked like she'd have to rely on her fists for the time being.

Inching towards the door, there's a moment of apprehension as she reaches for the knob, slowly pushing it open. She takes a tentative step outside, then turns to both her sides. "An.. apartment building? A pretty shanty one." This was certainly not what she was expecting. "This time, we'll play by my rules." She could go by her gut instinct, and not have to worry about Hunnigan scolding her, or something happening to whoever was accompanying her. She was alone, and maybe that wasn't such a bad thing.

Character Name: Rose Lalonde
Canon: Homestuck
Canon Point: Act 6 Intermission 2
Background/History: Rose Lalonde History!
Personality: Raised by an "ironically cruel" mother, Rose Lalonde slightly became rather introverted. Skilled in writing, she began to take a diary to take comfort in her own thought process. Rose loved knowledge and loved being refined! The girl thrived in reading and adored a darker culture than mere 13 year olds delved into.

Rose is a usually portrayed as blunt and straightforward. But, the truth of the matter is Rose is far more than that. While her personality is far more mature than someone of her age, she is still only a young teenager. She has her moments of being goofy by messing with refrigerator magnets as mustaches or throwing balls of yarn at friends. She can be immature, but often uses her dry humor as somewhat of a trademark to show her side, not immaturity.

Rose is incredibly well spoken and intelligent. Quite obviously, she is gifted with superb literary skills and understanding of psychology. For example, when she is disagreeing, Rose has a habit of going into a long logical psychoanalysis to disprove the theory, coming off as almost too into her debate. Along her quest, Rose keeps journals and writes updates of the going-ons, even if it is in a medium as small as an online gaming forum. Often giving advice and keeping a level head about things, Rose understands that there is a task that needs to be done and will go out of her way to complete it.

Regardless of her blunt words, she can be rather friendly and encouraging. Those who show themselves worthy often have Rose giving a quick compliment or nugget of wisdom to help them in their quest. Overall, she can become very helpful as long as someone is not a complete idiot! Rose knows that many of the tasks given to them remain crucial and is not shy of being nice in her own Rose way. However, a problem of hers is opening up with her intentions and problems. From the start, Rose is introduced as "TT" or the "tentacleTherapist" and is reflected as such with her over-analysis of her friends conversations, often giving them blunt advice. However, her role has always been giving advice, putting her in a position of power. When it comes to needing help or asking for it, Rose has always held back. Rose is vulnerable and does not like being prodded for her own internal dwellings of the mind. This leads her to having a difficulty opening up and appearing to be overly independent. However, she has since learned to rely on others for more than simple companionship since her suicide mission with Dave Strider.

Through-out her adventures, she has attempted to achieve great things. Taking responsibility for a number of important tasks, she realizes that she is human and has her own regrets and problems, going as far as apologizing for them and not putting herself on a higher tier than her friends. However, Rose can be a bit hard on herself, believing she SHOULD have known better than to make such mistakes. While she isn't necessarily insecure, she has an odd view on what she should be proud of or scold herself for. Basically, she remains a bit critical on herself at times.

Rose does not like joking, but rather using sarcasm and dry humor as her best trait. Dubbed as a straight-man, Rose is usually not one to go along with a joke. In fact, she tends to be poked and prodded for her uptight nature and condescending tone. This does not mean Rose is not prone to her own form of joking. As mentioned, sarcasm is used most, but she will often use a sneaky trait of hers to use large words to confuse her pesterchums, John specifically. Cynicism comes easily to Rose; while she has a difficulty admitting the sincerity of certain actions, it seems almost too obvious.

With her view on the situation, usually without her own personal feelings, she can see end goals and judge when sacrifices (her own) need to be made. She may not be the best leader, but she is a dangerous tactician and warrior on field and in the mental battleground. Her quick wit is something that will leave most that talk to her intimidated to some extent. Rose, as young as she is, has an incredible mind and utilizes it in many facets. While she can communicate in an excellent and intelligent way, she often has problems expressing what her feelings are. Rose is strong, but has since began to allow the strength of others to carry her.

Abilities/Powers:

GOD TIER - Rose has since achieved God Tier, an immortal state. This means, she can not die unless her death is "heroic". If she is killed in any other way, she will merely revive.

SEER OF LIGHT - Rose's role in her session was the SEER OF LIGHT. While her powers are loosely expanded on, she can see events which will give her the most favorable outcome. Almost a "positive precognition".

Sample Entry:

[ There was a flicker of static. Only a moment before a blurry image filtered onto tthe screen and a calm voice joined. Another moment ticked by and the view would become perfectly clear. A blonde young girl staring at the camera was what greeted any strangers. ]

Good evening. Or as good as an evening this could be given the unpreventable circumstances. I know I am a new face here, but I figured I would take my best step forward and begin transitioning into a productive role here.

I was attempting to keep a diary pertaining to the information I've gathered, a way to help any newcomers such as myself, but I seem to have run into a problem... The ink in this binding fades after I write, leaving more questions to the never-ending string of headaches induced by inquiring about this place. Typical. Things can never be easy.

[ She's sighing, pinching at the cartilage at the top of her nose. ]

To remedy the matter, I will be implementing video updates on the events going on. Clearly optional, but nevertheless helpful for those who need it.

[ She pauses, looking back to the camera. ]

For good measure, my name is Rose Lalonde. Although I have only just arrived here, I wish to help those who may not be coping with the change as easily as I am.

Sample Entry Two: Prose post at HolyRelic!
Old and on my old Rose account, but if that isn't enough, I can easily retype a third person post!

Character Name: Dave Strider
Canon: Homestuck / MS Paint Adventures
Canon Point: Act 6, Intermission 2
Background/History: right hurr.

Personality:

Dave Strider is a man of many personality aspects, even if he tries to come off as plain and laid-back. He is often dubbed as the "cool guy" in his group of friends and will be the first one to remind you of that fact. There are very rare moments of him being phased by anything; deeply unsettling spectacles such as seeing a dead duplicate from another timeline stabbed and on the floor did nothing significant to his psyche. Puppets, on the other hand, get him on edge only after his friend John Egbert made mention of how creepy they were. He keeps his composure by wearing a pair of sunglasses that hide his uniquely-colored eyes, which are red. Eyes give off the most emotion and he almost always has a poker face on, so the combination leads everyone to believe he is suave 100% of the time. This is not the case.

He has been called out by his ecto-sister Rose Lalonde to have some form of an inferiority complex, which may stem off of his desire to be the coolest guy around. She and him still both get along even if he never takes a single thing seriously. Dave is actually very caring towards all of his friends (the above-mentioned Rose, Jade Harley and John Egbert) going so far as to travel through time to save John's life after he screwed up and fell for one of the troll's -- Terezi Pyrope -- "playful" traps. Other examples would be him going into a battle with Jack Noir alongside Jade, knowing he'd be getting shot down by her yet continuing anyway because of the consequences that would follow if you broke the laws of time. There are many other situations that occur where he makes decisions for the sake of his friends that could be described as sometimes stupid.

His sense of humor follows the use of irony. Instead of making quality comics, he makes them so deliciously terribad that it makes the entire production more funny than intended. Anytime he gets into a conversation with Rose, normal or no, rebuttals are always involving some use of irony in contrast to hers dripping with sarcasm. These shenanigans can prove to be entertaining. He's also very forgetful, going so far as to forgetting things he intended to forget. Throughout his adventure in Sburb, he forgot he could use his timetables to travel into the future for a majority of the time he was there. As opposed to Bro and Dirk Strider, he uses irony as an escape mechanism to not show his true colors. The other two see it as a serious art form and definitely live by that ideology. That's not to say he can't appreciate it, but he does it more to look cool and rebellious than anything else.

Dave can be a pushover. While he acts like the big tough guy a majority of the time, anyone who can see past him won't have much trouble picking him apart and pushing him into a corner. When he's in a corner, he becomes unreasonably dramatic, pouty and downright stubborn; more stubborn than usual, which is a considerable amount on a daily basis. There will be no talking sense into him and he would rather ramble any incoherent thought outloud as if the world is his diary than listen to any sense talking. He's a very impressionable individual, as proven by his fascination with his brother (coincidentally named Bro) and everything he does. His fascination with irony and rapping, fighting with swords and even his sunglasses have all been because of being raised by Bro. Like previously mentioned, he thought puppets -- a staple of Bro's many habits -- were the bee's knees until John said they were creepy. He then proceeded to freak out whenever they were nearby.

There is a natural affinity with words when it comes to Dave, as being a Strider demands it. His typing quirk revolves around a very lethargic, clustered feel that is very reminiscent to his mind literally speaking outloud but in text form. For some reason or another, Dave imagines he is an extraordinary rapper with skills beyond anyone has ever seen. Cockiness and arrogance are two traits he picks up during times like this, ignoring the blatant annoyance of John as he spams their IM box with senseless lyrics to his newest song. His lengthy metaphors and similes are the beacon of hope for him, however, as he can make the simplest of stories sound like a feat of strength. That or he makes himself look more ignorant than normal.

Abilities/Powers: First, I should mention what God Tier is. There's a lot to explain, but I'm going to simplify because Homestuck is insufferable in every way possible. God Tier is basically what the name implies, as a normal human, troll or any other "race" in the Homestuck universe killed in a special way will be resurrected as such. They are granted a special ability according to their class. Dave is the Knight of Time, so he is granted some kick-ass not-pajamas that give him the look and feel of a legitimate knight. His power is controlling the titular ability, time itself, letting him have full control of it and making him a very powerful and dangerous person to mess with. This also means he has to know exactly what he's doing as time is fragile and the slightest of mistakes can doom that timeline, which has happened in the series many times in its continuity.

Alongside that, he is immortal. God Tiers are always resurrected unless death occurs heroically or deviously. In any other scenario, they will be brought back to life and probably pissed off.

Aside from being a God Tier, he is naturally talented with swordplay. His Bro taught him how to fight with it over a long period of extensive sparring sessions on the rooftop of their apartment. Having been getting his ass kicked for who knows how many years, he is actually well enough to handle his own so long as it isn't his brother as his opponent.

Sample Entry Two:

If Dave's going to be brought to another game, at least deck him out with a better crib. He noticed upon awakening that he was sharing his room with people, ala the Real World-style. That's always great. Soon enough, he was imagining the cameras looming behind his shoulder and watching him sleep with night vision like he was a raccoon. His dreams of stardom were shattered when he peered out through the smudged glass to get a good look at the dilapidated city. Depression, ahoy, because he was pretty positive he was no longer in Sburb anymore.

First thoughts upon realizing that were of dream bubbles. Dream bubbles are a confusing subject to talk about, with many layers of eth--

" -- What.. the hell.. is up with this phone. "

A very blank stare was given to the battered cellular device, which showed no text and only pictures of a bunch of jackasses. He was practically glaring at this point, realizing that dream bubbles would have never brought him to something eerily similar to the 90's in terms of technology and maybe even interior design. No text function? Really? That was like cutting an addiction cold turkey. Don't be very surprised if he's breaking a cold sweat in bed one night. Intervention needed ASAP.

Once that conclusion was made, he eventually realized that sitting around in a room that gave him the fucking creeps was not the smartest thing to do. Best bet would be to find anyone that he knew, if possible, and hope that he could ollie the hell out of here as soon as possible.

But for some reason, he highly doubted the likeliness of that even happening.

Character Name: Kanaya Maryam
Canon: Homestuck
Canon Point: A6I2.
Background/History: Here!

Personality:
Your trolltag is grimAuxiliatrix and you Tend To Enunciate Each Word You Speak Very Clearly And Carefully

Kanaya is a likely candidate for Most Unusual Troll. She is the only of her species who is concerned with fashion, customizing her appearance to be far more than just a zodiac t-shirt and jeans, even going as far as creating her own ensembles as well as others'. She has an unusual passion for crafts and is interested in things like make-up, and is possibly the only troll who is loves bright and loud colors. Extremely concerned with aesthetics, she is fluent in topiary and cultivating foliage around her own personal hive (troll house), easily showing the most creative side amongst her friends. A capable seamstress and lumberjack, she's the happiest when she's improving something -- including herself.

GA: I Had Trouble Sleeping When I Was Young
GA: The Sunlight Was Unnaturally Invigorating To Me I Guess

GA: He Put Me To Sleep And I Awoke On Prospit
GA: Where I Have Dreamed Ever Since

GA: I Was Allowed To See What Skaia Would Show Me
GA: And To Prepare For Dangers Ahead And Try To Protect People

She had an unusual 'childhood' that resulted in many faucets of her personality. While most trolls are most awake at night and in fact harmed by their planet, Alternia's, sun, Kanaya was instead said to be "invigorated" by it. Visited by a stranger, later revealed to be Doc Scratch, of whom she thought to be a Guardian (a term that isn't quite the same as it is for humans, which is more of a "Lusus"), he put her to sleep. Almost characters in Homestuck have two selves, the second one being called a Dreamself; thus, when this he did so, her other self awoke on a gold-clad planet called Prospit as one of the first to would do so. In the clouds above, the benevolent nearby planet called Skaia projected small glimpses of the future, and thus started Kanaya down her path. She received warnings of danger in the future and was given years to prepare, especially emotionally. At times, this gives her the appearance of being cool and emotionally detached. She's far from it.

With her foreknowledge and generally meddlesome personality, she is incredibly maternal towards her friends. Likely due to the fact she was raised by a Virgin Mother Grub who stepped down from her procreative duties in order to raise her, she has been raised to be extremely dedicated to her duties, which include protecting her friends to the point she often puts their well-being in even the most trivial matters above her own.

CA: wwhatEVVER you are so the vvillage twwo wwheel devvice wwhen it comes to auspisticing

AG: TRY AND ST8P ME FROM DO8NG B8D THINGS????????

AG: Ah! So m8d.
AG: Lousy st8pid godd8mn supportive fri8nd!

As you can see, her mediating ("auspisticing") capabilities often receive mixed reviews: some seek to take advantage of them, others seem to fully resent them and hate being swayed by knowing that Kanaya's heart is in the right place. As Eridan said above, she'll stick her nose into fueds in order to sort them out, and she sees keeping her friends safe and happy a duty in and of itself -- sometimes even going a little overboard. She has no problems getting violent when exacting revenge against those who have harmed the ones she cares about, including sawing one member of their team in half and readying herself to go "clown hunting" for the other. A mediator by nature she may be, but hell hath no fury like a trollfriend scorned.

Perhaps it's due to her race, but aforemention excessive violence doesn't even phase her, even if it's in the aid of a friend. She rips open her Lusus' stomach to withdraw a Matriorb and disects a friends' paralyzed legs off of him so another friend might apply robotic substitutes, soaking herself in blood both times. They were just things that Had To Be Done in the end, so she did them. A grimAuxiliatrix.

Speaking in a very "verbose" manner, Kanaya tends to present herself as a young woman who is incredibly calm, very intelligent, and someone who Has It All Figured Out. There are things that could be further from the truth, but this one's pretty far out there. While she is indeed usually calm and intelligent and has much going for her, but her sense of self-worth is directly related to how useful she feels as a person. If she's not helping someone or pioneering forward, she feels lost. As the story progresses, she loses or fails almost all of her missions, making her outlook rather bleak and hopeless -- she takes it very hard! It's only with convincing from the human Rose that she manages to continue on at all, and she still expresses that she wishes she could find a way, any way, to succeed at where she's failed (and that is to raise a Mother Grub and revive their species after their planet's apocalypse), no matter how "fated" her failure actually was.

The calmness she exudes is really just a very clever act: she's actually quite transparent. She often gets flustered, says too much and has to backtrack or deflect, and she will at times vindicate herself of her own self-inflicted problems. She accepts blame, but she makes excuses. She holds grudges and is known to fly off the handle despite being one of the few that makes no handle-flying jokes. She can be incredibly passive-aggressive and, despite being a good friend, she can be a very poor friend, too. In prioritizing others' problems she also disassociates herself from them. Instead of actually openly listening to them, she often seeks windows in which she can insert her opinion to validate herself. She's a good deal more selfish than she'd like you to believe.

And, as for romance? Well, her love life is a mess. When she was younger, she read stories full of lush romances, in tales of RAINBOW DRINKERS and SHADOW DROPPERS and FORBIDDEN PASSION (roughly the equivalent of our vampire novels). She aspires to be a lead role in her own romantic life, but seldom presents herself in a way that would mark her as more than a supporting actress. The only quadrant (trolls take on 4 or more romantic partners, all of which function as different benefactors in their romantic life, whether concupiscent or conciliatory) she can seem to fill and maintain is that of an auspistice, and even that is often short-lived. Her emotions are messy and hold incredibly true of an early teenager, and despite her prim, proper, and cool facade, her emotions run just as deep as anyone else's.

Kanaya, it's hard. Being a kid and growing up. It's hard and nobody understands.

It should also be noted that any partner she chooses for her reproductive quadrants are undoubtedly female. Usually the conciliatory quadrant as well, but she assists males in their ashen prospects. In short, Kanaya is, yes, a lesbian, although the trolls don't have words for such a thing. With almost all of their species being universally bisexual, her sexuality is seen as more of a "fetish".

In conclusion, Kanaya's a kind-hearted and creative girl with more flaws than she'd like to admit. She tries to do best by her friends, and she's bad at doing best by herself, and often needs to be more self-aware. She's a know-it-all and a fussyfangs, and, in the end... she really sort of just wants to be loved and do something right for a change.

Abilities/Powers:
TROLLS;

First and foremost, being an alien seems to give Kanaya a few perks in and of itself. Due to their ornery and often violent nature, her species is presumed to be more "durable" than humans: thicker skin, harder bones that are tougher to break, sharp teeth and sometimes claws. They're purportedly almost "bug-like" in biology, often being hatched from a queen in a way that is resemblant of insects. They could even possess an "exoskeleton".

In decent health, Kanaya tends to be able to hold her own in confrontations, including sawing legs off, sawing people in half, punching noses, and kicking crotches! How multi-talented.

Although naturally nocturnal, Kanaya herself can withstand the rough Alternian sun -- likely due to being a Rainbow Drinker. More about that in the appropriate section.

SYLLADEX;

Each character in Homestuck is in possession of an inventory system that allows them to store and withdraw items from hammerspace, essentially. Often presenting itself as two decks of cards, the Sylladex contains the Captchalogue and the Strife Deck, the latter being used in battle.

Each Sylladex uses a defined "Fetch Modus" (plural: modi), which is the exact means used to withdraw items. Kanaya's is set at "Chasisty", an obvious play on the Virgo The Virgin Chastity belt. With this modus, she can only withdraw items with a physical key, and those keys are located within treasure chests in the exact location she should be in when she withdraws the item, allowing her not to retrieve anything unless she needs it at that exact point in time. In theory, this would protect her from failing any of her missions.

With the Strife Deck, each character has one or more Specibi in their portfolio, indicating the weapons with which they fight. More or less, the weapons they actually pick up that exists in the Kind Abstrata, ranging from the genuine (ie; swordkind) to the less conventional (ie; bowlgpinkind). Kanaya uses "make-upkind", allowing her to use her tube of lipstick. ...Which just so happens to transform into a chainsaw!

RAINBOW DRINKER;

Although Kanaya often fantasized about and, recently, has been revealed as a Rainbow Drinker, little is known about this subspecies of trolls. What is known is that they are the rough equivalent of a Vampire. They drink the blood of other trolls (different colored, hence the title) through two dominant fangs, but that sort of dining doesn't seem to be a necessity unless the troll is verging on death. She does seem to be "undead", as she only emerged as a Rainbow Drinker after being supposedly killed by a blow from Eridan's magic through her stomach.

As stated earlier, she can withstand sunlight, and she quite literally glows from within, making her skin bright white and luminescent, even in pure darkness. The latest update has her Descendant/Ancestor, Porrin, teaching her how to turn the ability off, but she's taken from before that. Apparently it's little more than a "biological parlour trick". Interestingly, she also found the scent of blue blood to be "fruity" and stored it for later. This is a drastic change from the first time she tried to taste troll blood.

Embracing these changes doesn't seem to have any real influence on her personality.

[if you thought you'd seen everything, Haven, perhaps you should try a well-dressed alien vampire with glowing white/grey skin and pointy candy corn colored horns. as with nearly all newcomers, she looks a little displeased, sharp fangs chewing at a black lip for a moment.]

[finding her bearings, she addresses the feed directly;]

I would just like to announce how preposterous it is how many times this has now happened. Home, meteor, meteor number two, and now dilapidated human hostel without no visual confirmation of my fellow travellers. Migraine-inducing, that. I can feel every pain receptor in my thinkpan positively oscillate.

[she rubs her temples, sighing, as if the enunciate her point]

In any case, hello. I am Kanaya Maryam, summoned from a voyage through the dregs of the universe itself and somehow relocated into this compound of utter disarray. It's accents alone are quite the insult to my ocular receivers.

If anyone knows the current locale of a Transportalizer, please direct me to it. Also, if those listening have heard the words "Skaia" or "Alternia", I should like to speak with you.

[unfortunately, her stalking skills are a little poor at the moment]

Thanks.

Sample Entry Two:
As Kanaya meanders the length of of the city's main road, she casts a curious eye towards the stores. When she finds one that actually looks like a clothing store, she piques all the more and eventually makes her way into it. Even with as little light as the sun offers, the dusky carts and shelves of clothing grow brighter as she approaches, illuminated by her own glowing skin. Well, as annoying as it could be, sometimes being in such a state had its benefits.

She finds the girls' section and peruses. With as much decay as the place has, it's no surprise the clothing is flybeast-bitten and drained of its former color. It's only reality now that every outfit in her possession will probably meet the same fate, if not more quickly. Certainly not the first thing she finds disparaging about this strange, human place.

She sighs and slams some hangers back together, doing her best not to lose her composure. Taking out the 'cell phone' she had woken up with -- what a strange set of words -- and examining to see if she received any replies, she longs to hear from someone familiar. All the same, she longs for the comfort of her jade green text. The mystery of why she can't send any is unnerving, and all searching for a Transportalizer on her own has yielded null. Already, hope begins to be squashed underneath that looming billboard.

"What terrible accessories," she mumbles to herself as she glowers at it once back out on the street. "Is it a breathing apparatus for humans?" She'll have to ask why a human respiratory system would need more protection, the next time she thinks about it.

Character Name: Boromir
Canon: The Lord of the Rings (film canon supplemented with book canon when necessary)
Canon Point: Post-death, the end of The Fellowship of the Ring
Background/History: character-specific page, films page
Personality:

Boromir is probably best known for being the member of the fellowship who fell to the temptation of the ring, but there's a lot more to him than that. He's a valiant, goodhearted character who maaay have been a little romanticized in the film versus his book portrayal but shh we like him like this. Ahem:

First and foremost, Boromir is a soldier, a commander of Gondor. He's revered in his land for his greatness and strength, and even many in Rohan know his name and respect him. He's a fine leader, both because he has the spirit and courage to lead men to battle and because those men know how well he does in battle, so they want to follow him. There's a quote in the book that sums up Boromir's status pretty well, I think:

"It did not seem possible to Faramir that any one in Gondor could rival Boromir, heir of Denethor, Captain of the White Tower; and of like mind was Boromir."

So basically? He's pretty great and he knows it. He is a terribly proud man, both in regards to himself and the land of Gondor. (Lest we forget how in the book he happily blew the horn of Gondor as the fellowship was leaving Rivendell and had to be warned not to do that anymore by Elrond...)

His time in the story may be brief compared to other characters but in that short time we are shown many sides to his character. He is stubborn (how many times did he insist the trip to Mordor was impossible?) but brave, stern but caring. He's a strong soldier who hides a deep fear that his city will fall and his people perish.

“Gondor has no king. Gondor needs no king.”

Boromir loves Gondor and its people. He is absolutely devoted to protecting them both. As he sees it, Gondor's people are dying to protect the lands of Middle-earth while others stand idly by and understandably he resents that. "By the blood of our people are your lands kept safe," he says in Rivendell as he pleads to the council to let Gondor have the ring. Later along in the journey, Galadriel speaks to Boromir telepathically in Lothlórien and he is visibly shaken and troubled by what she tells him. Later, Aragorn approaches Boromir and tells him to get some rest, to which Boromir replies that he cannot. He tells Aragorn that Galadriel spoke of the fall of Gondor, but said that even now there is hope left. "But I cannot see it. It is long since we had any hope," he says.

He's a man who is conflicted by his loyalty to his people and his complete hopelessness. He does not want to see Gondor fall but he can't fathom a way out. The people are losing faith in his father and he sees it but he doesn't know how to fix it though he says he would do anything. It is that love of Gondor and desperation to save its people that opens Boromir to the temptation of the One Ring.

“Then you did what I could not. I tried to take the ring from from him.”

As mentioned before, Boromir fell to the temptation of the ring. Originally he was asked to go to Rivendell by his father to bring the ring back to Gondor as a "kingly gift" that could be used against the enemy and to restore Gondor to its former glory. Boromir was reluctant and did not want to go so his brother, Faramir, volunteered in his place, but Denethor was quick to insist that Boromir must indeed be the one and so, despite his reluctance, Boromir goes. From the moment he lays eyes on the ring it becomes apparent that he will be struggling with temptation. He is the first and only to reach for it once Frodo places it on the pedestal.

As with anyone who is tempted by the ring, Boromir changes under its power. Towards the end of the Fellowship of the Ring, he, having wandered off to gather firewood, encounters Frodo wandering alone in the forest. At first he simply chastises the ring bearer, telling him that no one should be wandering alone, least of all Frodo. From there, he begins to talk of Frodo's suffering, wondering if the Hobbit may be suffering needlessly with his burden. "There are other ways, Frodo," he says, "Other paths that we might take."

Frodo expresses his discomfort with the situation and from there, Boromir grows increasingly hostile. He tells Frodo that it is madness to destroy the One Ring out of fear when they could be using it for good. Angrily, he goes on to say he wants only for the strength to defend his people and wonders if Frodo might just lend him the ring. With each attempt at getting to the ring failing, Boromir resorts to threatening Frodo, telling him he has no chance and that he will be begging for death by the end of it all. Finally, when Frodo tries to leave, Boromir physically attacks him, tackling him to the ground in an effort to steal the ring.  Luckily, Frodo escapes and Boromir is left with guilt for what he has done.

Later, as he lay dying, he regretfully tells Aragorn that he tried to take the ring. He says that he has failed them all, but Aragorn reassures him that he fought bravely and kept his honor.

“I would have followed you, my brother; my captain; my king.”

Boromir is stern and stubborn and a fighter but he is compassionate too. He actually seems to get on rather well with all members of the fellowship despite their rocky start with his ill behavior at the counsel. He's shown comforting Gimli when Gandalf is thought to be dead and even protests when Aragorn says they need to keep moving, pleading that he allow the hobbits a moment to grieve the loss of their old friend. Honestly if he hadn't had his little issue with the ring? I think he would've been a pretty good voice of reason in the group. He's well-versed in the ways of battle stratagem and levelheaded in war but he also keeps the safety of those weaker than he is in mind at all times. He's the sort of person who would be willing to protect the weaker residents of Haven who can't defend themselves well.

Boromir's mother, Finduilas, died when he was just ten years old. His father, Denethor, did not handle her passing well and became a somber man afterwards who did not bother hiding that he preferred his elder son over his younger, Faramir. Denethor's favoritism somehow hasn't affected Boromir's relationship with Faramir. The brothers are very close –– as children, Boromir looked after Faramir. In the extended version of the films, we are given one flashback scene where we get to see Faramir and Boromir interact. They are shown to have a friendly relationship and laugh together. When they notice Denethor approaching, Boromir's expression darkens and he says, "One moment of peace, can he not give us that?" yet still greets their father with a smile. Then when Denethor praises him for his victory, Boromir attempts to pass some credit to Faramir as well but Denethor refuses to acknowledge his younger son. From this scene alone we can gather that Boromir is much closer to his brother than to his father, but while he disapproves of his father's attitude towards Faramir, he respects him and maintains a positive relationship with him.

Within the Fellowship, he shows a great fondness for the hobbits –– particularly Merry and Pippin –– and looks after them quite a bit. When the fellowship is struggling to pass over the mountains in the snow, Boromir is the one to yell out that they can't stay there for it will be the death of the hobbits. He's shown playfully teaching Merry and Pippin how to fight and in the end, as he is dying, he's worried because Merry and Pippin were taken by Orcs. He's generally the one who will be grabbing and hobbits and carrying them in times of trouble which HEY might actually fall under what I mention next but you gotta do what you gotta do sometimes. But yeah, despite his fondness for the hobbits, he can also be a little condescending towards them. He seems to think of them as child-like, as many "big people" in Middle-earth do. He'll tousle their hair like they're babies or call them "little one" and all that jazz.

His relationship with Aragorn is the most important of all. In the beginning, Boromir thinks that Aragorn is nothing more than a ranger from the north. He is friendly with him upon first meeting but then they butt heads during the counsel. It is there that Boromir learns that Aragorn is Isildur's heir and therefore Gondor's rightful king. This is where we hear that famous line, "Gondor has no king. Gondor needs no king." As mentioned earlier, Boromir has grown up seeing his father perform the duties that a king otherwise would. Gondor is a land that has been waiting an unimaginably long time for the return of the king. It is understandable that Boromir would be reluctant to accept this ranger as his king. However, even though he seems resentful towards Aragorn in this scene, he remains on good terms with him throughout his leg of the quest. By the end of it, Aragorn has gained Boromir's utmost respect and he finally sees that ranger from the north as what he truly is: Gondor's King. As he is dying, he tells Aragorn, "I would have followed you, my brother; my captain; my king."

Abilities/Powers: It is said that Boromir shows traits of Númenórean ancestry, meaning that he is bigger and stronger than an average man, although this is not really communicated in the movies so it's unclear if any part of this can be considered film canon. However, we do know for certain that he is a very practiced and powerful warrior. He demonstrates great skill with a sword and he's shown killing orcs at a distance by throwing a dagger. Even when mortally wounded by multiple arrows he continues to fight, showing his talent and devotion. It is said that among men his skill is surpassed only by Aragorn.

Unfortunately, where he is more powerful than his fellow men physically, he is weaker mentally. When presented with the temptation of the ring, he struggles deeply to resist it and ultimately fails. If the ring ever entered Haven,  it is likely that Boromir's struggle against its power would continue.

Background/History: His page on Avatar Wiki.
disfavored: (Default)

[personal profile] disfavored 2012-10-24 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:
Tarrlok is extremely ambitious, first and foremost. He is good at making plans and seeing them through, and prefers taking action as soon as possible to debating a more agreeable solution. He is willing to do immoral things for what he considers to be the greater good, and thinks that the ends justify the means in those cases. He tends to get his way a lot simply because of how assertive and persistent he is. He gives fancy gifts as bribes, and is always overly nice and full of praise when speaking to someone he intends to get something out of. He can ignore being offended or insulted and act like it doesn't bother him when he's actively trying to be nice. When around someone he doesn't have use for or thinks is troublesome, though, he often comes off as blunt, dismissive, and passive-aggressive instead. And, if he cannot get his way with kindness and compliments, he is very willing to resort to outright manipulation in order to get what he wants, or even become physically aggressive if he is really desperate. Once he has his mind set on something, it's very difficult to get him to quit.

He is also very proud and enjoys being in the spotlight. He is frequently in the newspaper and has several media connections, and gets very frustrated if he doesn't come out on top all the time. Part of this relates back to his childhood; because of his hatred for his father, who was Republic City's most notorious criminal at one time, he wants to prove himself worthy and be recognized as the city's savior. His father also played favorites with his sons, and Tarrlok was frequently berated and made to feel inferior to his older brother. Because of this he is determined to be the best he can and enjoys feeling superior to others, and as such he passionately pursues positions of leadership and doesn't like having to follow anyone else. He tends to think he is always right and that his way is the best way, and can also be a show-off with his fancy parties and extravagant living quarters.

He has a strong desire to be a strong, independent person and while he is willing to cooperate with others, he doesn't like working under anyone else. He prefers to be the leader in most situations, and thus is constantly trying to gain more power and status. Because of his rough childhood, he is afraid of being seen as a weakling or of losing control over his own life. He would rather do dangerous work himself than put someone else in charge and is willing to take personal risks, but when put under too much pressure he can make drastic, impulsive decisions that can do more harm than good.

Tarrlok is a very social person and makes an effort to get to know all the major movers and shakers in Republic City if he can, being very quick to introduce himself and try to get on their good side. Yet, despite the numerous acquaintances he has, he is almost always seen in either a big crowd or all alone. He doesn't seem to have that many close personal relationships and prefers to keep most people at arm's length. He has a lot of secrets in his past that could have hurt his status if they were ever revealed, so he keeps his personal life private. When he does get emotionally attached to someone, he is very caring and refuses to hurt them - which could be a weakness if he eventually had to use them to advance his career and couldn't. A big part of him is still insecure about and ashamed of his roots, too, even if he likes to think he's left those issues behind now. He may desire a more involved personal life, but is nervous about getting too close to anyone and has chosen to prioritize his political career over close relationships.

While he is smug and confident most of the time, he gets very shaken and moody if he doesn't get his way. This may not seem to happen often because he usually does get what he wants, but when he doesn't he gets disheveled and upset because of how much he hates being defeated. However, he's also a bit more reasonable and personable when he's been knocked down a few pegs. While he does - usually - have good intentions, his ego and past insecurities can get the better of him. He does have the capacity to be selfless, too, as he was willing to sacrifice his own life to stop his brother from causing any more harm. He does feel regret and shame for his actions when he lets himself get carried away, too, especially in regards to using bloodbending.

Abilities/Powers:
-Waterbending: The ability to manipulate water. Includes actively controlling water (making waves, levitating it in the air, using it as a projectile weapon, etc.) and changing the state of water (into ice and back). The user needs to be near water in order to use it, but water can be drawn from many possible sources, including plants.

-Bloodbending: An advanced form of waterbending, of which very few waterbenders are able to use. Bloodbending allows the user control over another person or an animal by bending the water in their blood. Bloodbending was thought to be possible only on a full moon (when waterbenders are at their strongest), but Tarrlok comes from an exceptionally strong line of waterbenders who are able to bloodbend at any time.

Sample Entry Two:
It was getting late and yet, Tarrlok still sat at his desk idly filling out paperwork. He was used to this routine; it was a rare day when his job let him get more than five or six hours of sleep per night, although he had learned to function on less. This particular night, however, he was waiting for something. Something that made the minutes seem to pass by like hours, every moment of awkward silence between he and his page – who would always remain until Tarrlok was finished – feeling like anxious eternity. He was quite certain that the Avatar would be paying him a visit tonight. Otherwise, imprisoning her friends was a complete waste of time that only served to make him look bad.

She had better show up. She played right into his hand before, and it wasn’t difficult at all. Despite how strong-willed and tough she thought she was, she was extremely easy to manipulate. She was young, after all. Part of him hoped that this whole situation would at least prove a point about Korra’s prowess. While she may be the Avatar, she was still a child. A child who happened to be born with great power and into a great destiny, but a child just the same. Part of him enjoyed her presence because of the ample ways there were to use her to his advantage, but another part of him feared and detested the possibility that he might one day be taking orders from her, simply because she is the Avatar and he is not.

It was true, she already had a status he could never obtain. Maybe that was part of why he felt so compelled to use her for his own gain at every possible opportunity. Not since his childhood had he felt this way, as if he were doomed to be inferior to someone else just because they were born stronger than he was.

He worked for everything he had. He trained hard, and dedicated his life to his political career at the expense of everything else to be where he was today. He certainly deserved this position more than someone who was merely born into something great. But sometimes the thought crossed his mind, the thought that so infuriated him: Was he inferior to the Avatar, after all? No, of course not, his father was mistaken in deeming him a hopeless failure.

Here he stood now as the only person who could take this city before Amon did. And – the only person who could take it before Korra did, either. He and he alone would be Republic City’s savior.

He was distracted from his thoughts by the window bursting open, Korra standing on the frame glaring at him, overcome with anger. Wonderful. Everything was going as planned.

Character Name: Conner Kent aka Superboy
Canon: Young Justice (cartoon series)
Canon Point: post "Depths" (2x07)
Background/History: wikia.

Personality: Prior joining up with the team, Superboy spent most of his life in an underground lab called Cadmus. There, he was force-fed an education telepathically by G-Gnomes (another creation of Cadmus) for sixteen weeks. Because of this he is extremely intelligent. The extent of his knowledge isn't really known yet, but so far he seems to know his fair share of World History as shown with him being able to successfully answer the teacher's question involving the country Relasia. He also seems to be multilingual as he is able to understand Bane whispering in Spanish to one of his men when they were doing a recon mission in Santa Prisca. While fluent in Spanish, he is also fluent in French, Korean, Arabic, and Russian, among other languages.

He... isn't really the best when it comes to conversing in social settings. Since he never really interacted with anyone up to the point of his release, he has a hard time trying to convey his emotions to the others around him. He also has a hard time understanding simple concepts such as trying to apologize to someone. When he went off on M'gann for talking to him telepathically he had a very hard time trying to think and string together a decent apology. Overall he's pretty quiet and doesn't really speak to people unless he's spoken to first. He can also get pretty awkward when dealing with something that's uncomfortable to him. As the series progresses he can hold a somewhat decent conversation, but it isn't until the second season that you see him stepping out of his shell.

Well-- seeing as he is Superman's clone, he is extremely cocky with his fighting abilities. At one point he deemed training with Black Canary unimportant and thought that it was "a waste of his time." Because of this arrogance he ignores the help of others and impulsively throws himself at things that he can't handle by himself. However, his views do change, especially once he realizes that he has yet to learn everything that there is to learn. In later episodes he's seen training with Black Canary and his teammates. Often times after practice or a mission he's seen prattling on and on about how "Black Canary taught me that one."

Despite the cockiness he might have, he has a lot to live up to in living up to his namesake. These feelings aren't brought to light until later on in the season. His number one concern is that he will never be strong enough to live up to the the man of steel's strength. He discovered this quickly when he found out that he was only half Kryptonian (thanks to Lex Luthor's DNA donation), and the fight against Match (who was a first and failed attempt to clone a Kryptonian) helped exemplify how weak he was when it came to going all out against a Kryptonian. He's also extremely guilty for finding peace and understanding what it meant to be Superman during the failed simulation. Instead of grieving like the rest of his team, he was able to find some kind of solace when he "died".

He has a lot of anger issues too. He's easily angered and overreacts to a lot of things that oftentimes doesn't merit an overreaction to in the first place. A good example of this would be when he pulled a kid off of his skateboard and yelled at him when he was asking what kind of t-shirt the boy was wearing, and why he was wearing it in one of the earlier episodes. He is also extremely confrontational to new people. When he really wants to know something he'll do his damn best to get the information. He also really hates being compared to and mistaken for Superman. He doesn't take really well to being bossed around or dismissed either.

A lot of his anger issues seems to stem off of the lack of a relationship he and Superman have. When Superman's involved he feels angered when he's simply brushed off by the man of steel. All he's truly looking for in Superman is a mentor and a possible father figure. He's tried numerous of times to extend the olive branch, but he's been cut off and turned away at every turn. It really shows how upset and frustrated Conner gets whenever Superman's name is brought up. This sort of explains why he warmed up to Lex for a short while. Sure he knows Lex Luthor is one seriously bad dude, but he was the first of the two to actually acknowledge Conner as his son. Lex gave him what Clark skirted around, and because of that Conner increasingly relied on the little gift Lex gave him after their first visit.

However, this all seems to gradually change during the five year gap in between seasons. He's kind of mellowed out and definitely seems less angry with the world then he used to be early on in the show. His anger issues aren't as bad, and even his communication skills have improved! Well, somewhat. He's still a little socially awkward, but it's better than ignoring and glaring at everyone who spoke to him. He's definitely matured over the years. But one of the biggest steps he's had to face was breaking up with his girlfriend, M'gann M'orzz.

The number one driving force as to why he broke up with her was because of her improper use of her powers. She would abuse her powers in order to extract information from their enemies oftentimes leaving them in a catatonic state afterwards. She relentlessly pushed them to their breaking point, and that was something he just wasn't really comfortable with. To him, superheroes aren't supposed to use their powers to do evil things. But when he tried to confront her about this issue, he ended up as a victim as well. Feeling beyond betrayed that he could no longer trust the woman he loved, he ended their relationship then and there. He still gets angry from time to time when he sees her using that power.

Abilities/Powers: Since he's only a partial clone of Superman it's only natural that he'd get some of the Kryptonian powers. However since he is a partial clone (in that being he's only half Kryptonian half human) he lacks all the more advanced powers such as flight, x-ray and heat vision. His powers also aren't exactly on par to Superman's either. But he works with the powers he's been given.

physical -
super strength: this doesn't really need to be defined, does it? He uses his strength to pick up and/or carry heavy objects around. He's usually the one who carts heavy objects around for the team. (i.e. heavy crates full of a months worth of groceries and things to the like). He is the teams pack-mull, yaaaay.
super leap: he can leap tall buildings in a single bound! Well, sort of... It depends on how tall the building is. But it definitely makes up for his inability to fly. He can jump incredible distances and heights.
invulnerability: he can basically take a good beating and still get back onto his feet. He's been punched through walls and shot at with guns and will still keep going. It takes a lot to physically hurt him.
super hearing: he can pick up the faintest sounds over long distances. He heard Artemis' heart stop beating in episode seven in the second season.
infrared vision: he can detect heat signatures, which allows him to easily see in the dark.
hand to hand combatant: this, really isn't much of a power, but I feel that it's necessary to mention. Thanks to his training under Black Canary, he has developed proficient combat skills. He's also got a whole lot of endurance!

mental -
multilingual: he can understand and speak many languages outside of the English language. He is fluent in Spanish, Atlantean, French, Korean, Arabic, Russian, and many other languages. He probably won't understand made-up languages like Vulcan and Klingon, for example.
intelligence: basically, he's really really smart! He seems to love and understand World History the most since he answered a question about a country his World History teacher hadn't yet covered in class yet. He also managed to get into an ivy league college in between the five year gap from season one and two!

Sample Entry: both samples are taken from [community profile] route_29. alternatively, if you wish to see more of him talking I have this thread.
[He takes one look at the jumping Aipom and just glares. Whatever-- he could... just ignore it right? RIGHT?! Let's see how long it takes Supey before he goes postal at the purple cretin pokémon.

Not... too long, apparently. While the monkey was dancing and jumping about on top of Conner's desk it accidentally bumped into something which in turn caused a cup to knock over. Conner glared at the monkey and realized a little too late that the gross sticky content inside the cup was making a crash course for the boots he had to the side of his desk.

Impending death glare of doom and his anger sky rocketing in three, two--]

Those were my second favorite pair of boots.

Sample Entry Two: Twitching slightly, Superboy awoke with a start as he jolted up from the bed he was laying on. Instantly, he knew that something was amiss the moment he came to on the bed. First of all he could sort of see what was in front of him and not the usual walls of his closet. Second of all... well, he was on top of a bed. Usually, he preferred sleeping in closets since it gave him that closeness he had inside that pod when he was in at Cadmus. And while he had a bed back home at Mount Justice he never really used it.

Rolling off the bed he examined the room and discovered that his "room" had just about everything his room had back home on Mount Justice. Except, save the fact that he had an... odd looking device and five little balls that seemed to somehow gleam in the dim light of his room. In the corner he noticed that there was a chair with a change of clothes neatly folded on the seat.

If whoever was in charge of this place thought that they could get him to wear whatever was in the chair then they were dead wrong. Scoffing, he sat down on the bed, and as he moved his arm backwards his hand lightly brushed against some sort of envelope. Blinking he turned over and looked down at the envelope. Ripping the envelope open he fished out the note and read it. Once done, he sat the note down and walked over to the chair and picked up the turtleneck and grimaced at the red R that was in the center of his new shirt.

"Change? Into this?" He said angrily as he let the offending article of clothing drop to the floor. "No way. I'll wear the pants. But I'm not changing my shirt." And with that, he stormed out of his room. He had to get out of there. Changing his shirt, how ridiculous. If there was one thing he hated (other than being forced to wear some lame superhero costume that involved tights and a cape) was being bossed around.

As he rounded the corner of the base he ended up running into one of the higher ups. The man gave him a once over before fixing his disheveled uniform. "Why are you out of uniform? Go back and change. Immediately."

"'cause I didn't want to." He said as he clenched his fist. This must have been an all time record for not punching the ever living shit out of this guy. M'gann would be proud. But now's not the time to be thinking about her...

"Well why don't you go and change. That's an order gr--" Before the officer could even finish his sentence, he was shoved into a wall with a fist in his face.

"I don't take well to orders--so if you know what's best for you-- you might not want to finish that." Conner growled.

Character Name:
Bolin
Canon: AtLA: The Legend of Korra
Canon Point: Episode 4!
Background/History:  http://avatar.wikia.com/wiki/Bolin
Previous Game History:

Bolin was in Discedo for three months, and his time there really affected him. For one, he was completely alone. During his time there, his brother and friends never showed up, and since he usually relied on Mako to take care of him and be there for him, he had to deal with not only his brother--the one person who had figuratively never left his side--not being there with him, but also had to learn how to fend for himself. He'd lived on the streets before, but Mako had always been there to guide and take care of him, and had done a lot of the actual fending. So needless to say, Bolin got used to the idea that he would never see his brother again, and had to adjust to life without bending.

Speaking of bending! Another big thing that affected him in his time at Discedo was the chip--a small device that was implanted in him, suppressing his abilities. He was never able to get it out, and so he lived three months without being able to defend himself in the way he was able to  back home. Not only that, but he was unable to do something that had, at one time, been completely natural and easy. It was a change that was difficult to adjust to.

Bolin is essentially the same guy he was. He didn't spend enough time  in Discedo to become jaded, but he learned and had to overcome a lot of obstacles, and is a lot more street-smart because of it. Also, due to the nature of Discedo, Bolin will be extremely wary of Haven, thinking it another trick of the Scientists. He had to deal with getting his mind messed with a few times, after all. (He forgot Mako at one point, and thought he was Shizuo's brother, and had come from his world. It was awk for both of them, when they finally came to their senses.).

Also! He's got a scar on his arm where he was attacked by a monster.

Personality:

Bolin is someone who is completely comfortable with who he is. He's not insecure, he takes his weaknesses in stride, and he acknowledges his good points. He's not vain, in any sense of the word, as he's not one to go and gloat about himself--except maybe to mako, if the subject were to come up--because he's a good person who thinks of others just as much as he thinks of himself. A great example of him being comfortable with who he is, and taking his weaknesses in stride is when he's rescued from Amon. Most guys? They would probably be embarrassed at having been saved by a girl. Or...just saved in general. Bolin, though? It doesn't phase him. He heartily thanks Korra, and admits to the situation having been scary.

Despite having lived a hard life--losing his parents at a young age, and living on the streets with very little/no money--Bolin still manages to keep a smile on his face in most situations. He's easy-going and laid-back, taking things in stride and being a generally bro-tastic dude. When things get tough, he somehow manages to bounce back quickly and remain cheerful and optimistic. This tends to make him slightly naive in a way, however, and it's very obvious he depends on his brother's opinion on how he should react to the world around him. An example:

Shady Shin: So listen. I got an offer for you. Lightning Bolt Zolt is looking to hire some extra muscle.
Bolin: Uh, I don't know, Shin. Mako told to stay away from the Triple Threats.

He's not relying on his own opinion of the Triple Threat Triads--though he probably doesn't think too highly of them--he's relying on what Mako told him not to do. He constantly goes to Mako for advice, and puts his brothers opinion first in most instances. That's not to say he won't do things for himself--he goes with Shady Shin, in hopes of being able to raise some money, and he asks Korra out despite what Mako says on the matter--he just values his brothers opinion, and considering the trouble he manages to get himself into, Mako's street-smarts are something he definitely relies on.

Bolin is definitely a team-player. He works well with others, and if the team is hurting in some area, he'll step in and do what he think is best for the team. While he may be a professional fighter, Bolin is actually quite non-confrontational outside of an actual fight. He would rather avoid a fight than go at someone head on--as seen in the restaurant with Korra. He kept his head down and was perfectly content with keeping to himself. Outside of that, He's got a sense of humor he isn't afraid to use, though it's a more innocent humor. He's not one to pull pranks or make jokes at the expense of others.

While not a lot bothers Bolin, and he bounces back from things relatively quickly, when things do upset him, he'll fall apart rather quickly. He doesn't seem to handle 'betrayal' very well, and when he sees Mako and Korra kissing, he cries, runs away, and goes to figuratively drown himself in noodles. In this state he acts like a little kid who didn't get his way, to the point where Mako had to physically drag him out of the restaurant while Bolin kicked and sobbed. It also affected his ability to work with his team, and they nearly lost because of it. However, despite the effect it had on him, after their near-loss, Bolin forgives his brother and Korra. Which shows a lot about him as a person, and the strong brotherly-bond him and Mako share. He's forgiving, and kind, and just an all-around good guy.

Lastly, depending on the situation, Bolin can go from modest and polite to excitable and talkative. More formal settings, on dates, or when facing serious trouble, he becomes polite and...well, modest. When he burps he seems to be somewhat embarrassed, though that quickly changes when Korra herself starts burping. Really, it depends on the situation. Around friends and his brother? He's himself. Excitable, energetic, and talkative--though he's no wordsmith, and he doesn't speak as eloquently as some do.

All in all he's a laid-back guy with a heart of gold. He thinks of others, and does his best for his team. Though he is still a teen, and he does have his moments of despair--however, these moments are brief, and he's quick to bounce back from them.

Abilities/Powers:

Bolin's abilities are pretty straight forward! He's an Earthbender, which means he's able to manipulate the earth and shape it to his will. Throwing disks, making walls of earth--these are just a few of the things Earthbenders can do. His style of Earthbending is slightly different from, say, Toph's style. It's more 'light on his feet', adapted specifically for Pro-bending. So unlike Toph, who has a very unmovable, solid stance, Bolin is quick on his feet, which makes for quick and easy movement in the midst of a fight.

Otherwise his emotional strengths are:

  • confidence in himself
  • comfortable with who he is
  • a genuinely good guy
  • a team-player
  • laid-back
  • dependable
  • forgiving

Sample Entry Two:

When he wakes up, his first thought is that it’s some prank. A practical joke? But this didn’t…seem like something anyone he knew would do. Besides, he didn’t recognize the area. It didn’t even look like it belonged anywhere near Republic City. Sure, there were some less-than-savory places around town, but this was….this was bad.

Was it Amon and his Chi-blocking lackeys?

He doubts it. Even that seems a little far-fetched.

He looks around; trying to shake the feeling something was wrong--off about it all. Something subtle that he couldn’t seem to put his finger on. It was more than just the bleak change of scenery, or the weird little device telling him to ‘use’ it, or the fact his brother, the only person he had left, was nowhere in sight. No, it was something else…and it was bugging him to no end. What was wrong…?

There’s a rustling behind him, and the knocking over of trash cans as something moves in his direction. He manages to turn in time to see some freak of nature—a monster? It wasn’t any animal he’s seen before—leaping at him, claws and fangs aimed and heading right for him. Bolin quickly moves into a stance, ready to knock it back with some killer bending--

Only the Earth doesn't move. His bending doesn’t work, and there’s a horrible moment of dread as time seems to slow down, the monster closing in---and he couldn't bend. He couldn’t get away in time.

Teeth sink into the arm that had come up in defense—and while it was a weak protection against the animal, it was all he had. There was pain, and at that pain Bolin rushes into action, pushing the animal away and stumbling back a moment before he turns to run.

--“No, no this can’t be happening. What is—“ What is even going on?

I do have a question: Would the chip still work within Haven's setting? Or would that be something removed from within him upon arrival?
