Background/History: In Game of Fate, Earth is very similar to the world that we live in. The major difference in their world is the secret world of magic, which is guarded from the average civilian. Humans, as they are in our world, are violent and quick to panic - always wanting to rid themselves of something that they don't understand. Which is why magic remains hidden from them; if they were to know that there were others out there who harbored powers that they couldn't replicate, it would lead to all out magical genocide. Those who use magic do their best to remain under the radar, working normal jobs, living "normal" lives.
All parts of history are acknowledged by the world of Game of Fate, though all of these events happened sooner than they had in the real worlds history. With magic, inventions were able to be created earlier than they were in our timeline, making it quicker for society to grow. So whereas the story of Game of Fate takes place in the 2000s, its technologies are up to par with what we have today.
The only form of an actual magical government is MASQ. The group is made up of people who maintain the secret of magic, keeping tabs on magical incidents - making sure that all things magical that happen are quickly cleaned up, or disposed of. MASQ is the group that distributes that magical "Titles" as well. Titles are essentially a sort of secret identity for magic users, which separates the wizards and witches from their "real life" personas. Though what MASQ is best known for would be their regulation of the price system.
At the start, magic had been free. Now there is a system behind it. Those who use magic have been inflicted with a sort of "curse"; something that is transferred genetically to one magic user to the next. This curse is what insures the price system, putting a limit on how much magic a person can use, and what their price for their magic will be. These prices vary among the magic users, everyone having their own type of "currency."
The MASQ is always there to "help," of course. If someone has used too much magic and lost a lot of important things, they can do community service for the MASQ to eventually reverse the pricing systems effects and bring back what they had lost.
The pricing system hadn't come out of nowhere, however. It all started with two girls named Benita Goodon and Felicity Dystini, who had other ideas for magic. The two had decided there should be some sort of price for the use of magic - rather than letting people go around freely using it whenever they pleased. This was where the magic price system came into play, making all wizards and witches pay for the right to use their natural born talents. However, over the years, it became apparent to Felicity that the price system wasn't right; she decided it needed to be destroyed. Benita had to disagree and sealed Felicity away at a moments notice, making sure that she wouldn't interfere with the system they, together, had created.
It was then that Felicity swore that she would get free of her entrapment, and began to plan. She needed power, something like a magical reactor that she could use in a spell to set herself free. That something was Satou. Her mother, Horie, had been been asked by Felicity (aka Fate) to help her by giving birth to the prodigal witch that was needed; and she did. Though the birth of Satou didn't go according to plan - Horie loved the girl. With this love, she ran away to Japan with her husband and daughter in an attempt to escape the plan she had got herself involved in.
At this time in the 1990s, there was another girl, an eight year old girl, by the name of Masume Sakura. She wasn't a witch, or anything extraordinary in the least. She had a mother and a father who loved her, and whom she loved dearly. They traveled the world for a good portion of her young life, her father being a photographer and her mother working with the Global Medical outreach. From these travels she gained a good deal of knowledge, and even picked up on quite a few languages, being young enough to still grasp other people's words. She had the ideal child's life - traveling, adventures, meeting new people and having parents who supported her. It was all going well.
That is to say, until things started to not go well, as it always seems to go down. While in Japan, the family was involved in an accident, killing her parents and leaving Masume comatose. This is the way that Horie had come to find Masume, taking her essence as a base for the new, magical Masume Sakura.
She awoke from the coma anew, quickly swept up by her new "aunt and uncle" Horie and Yosuke, who adopt her into their household. Without a second to think, Masume leaves her past life behind, as well as many of her past memories of her actual mother and father; which works well enough, her loss of memory making it easy for her to believe that Horie and Yosuke have been her aunt and uncle all along.
Little did she know, her existence wasn't given back to her out of kindness to a child. Half of Satou's uber magical skills, unknown to either of the girls, had been placed in her. Now making her a device to keep the Kuroneko family out of the watchful eyes of Fate and Benita.
Masume was no longer the Masume Sakura that she had been before, no matter how much of her personality Horie had given her. Her memories were scattered - and some gone completely - and bits of her personality had to be picked up over time. She was, after all, no longer a person. She was magic, in a more physical form, and like a changelling, she had taken a child's identity in a flash, filling her position in the world. A copy of someone who had existed, but not human.
Her transition into the Kuroneko family is, unfortunately, not as smooth as she would have liked it to be. She didn't change her last name, holding onto the life she had once had with her actual parents; not wanting to forget her "real family." Though she did make sure to keep up her studies for her new parents, learning the lessons quickly due to her artificial intelligence.
Her main struggle was making friends with her new sister. Satou hated Masume, which Masume couldn't exactly figure out why, since she had no recollection of the family's history before she joined their lives, but she did her best to make nice. In fact, she was almost obsessive, making sure that she would get her sister to like her over time - which, eventually, she did.
Just in time for an adventure. Only a year after moving into her new household, Masume and Satou were given magic wands by a mysterious woman. The two had yet to be exposed to the secret underground life of magic, bringing about different reactions to the idea of this sort of adventure. Opposed to her sister's excitement, Masume was more uneasy towards the idea of it all - a fear brought up by her existence being made of magic. She will not pass up the idea of an adventure, having a strong need to do something more than study, so quickly gets over her anxiety and joins in the excitement towards the idea.
Because of their magical adventures, Masume and Satou grow closer, something that Masume had wanted from the get-go. Running around saving the day it certainly one way to become closer to your adoptive sister. But just as their bond had grown strong, tragedy had to strike.
After a long day of magical excitement, the sisters had returned to an empty house. Their parents, Horie and Yosuke, are missing in action - though this doesn't alarm the girls initially. The days of waiting is what builds the anxiety, knowing that their parents weren't going to return.
Three days after their parents disappearance, a girl named Vinita Godono (Benita Goodon with a new name that sounds nothing like her original name) has arrived at their doorstep. She has been watching them, though Masume is unaware that they've been under careful surveillance. Vinita reveals to them the existence of the organization MASQ and the Title Competition. To entice them to join, she tells them that their missing parents had been a price system, and that if they were to join the competition they could eventually bring them back. It was a special opportunity for them, since they were to young to come into a title naturally (witches titles being automatically assigned at age sixteen), but could win them. And with a title, comes to ability to work off magical debt, and in turn get back what was lost.
The whole explanation for their parents disappearance is a lie, though. The truth behind their parent's disappearance is that Satou had unknowingly murdered their father, which had turned Horie into a sort of nervous wreck, sending her off to who knows where.
But, alas, with that unbeknownst to the sisters, the two of them join the competition in hopes of paying off their magical debt and returning their parents to them. Joining up with the family friend Ryuu, they go to complete the three good deeds, which will showcase their magically abilities. During this time they see the good and bad sides of magic, and how people choose to use it.
As the competition goes on, Satou begins to make friends with many of the other competitors (and other people outside of the contest), which causes Masume to become jealous, since she is no longer the main focus of Satou. Even more so that Satou and Touka had become quick friends, where as Masume had to work a long time to get Satou to even like her. To worsen the situation, Satou tells Masume of Mikale, a childhood friend of hers, which deepens Masume's emotional state, causing her to become insecure about how much she doesn't know about the Kuroneko family before she entered it.
The two continue with the competition despite the insecurities that Masume harbors, finishing as winners. On their way to the award ceremony, they are attacked by witch hunters, who seemed to know where they were headed. Being ever vigilant, Satou serves as a distraction, getting Masume and Ryuu to go on without her. Touka stayed behind to help as Ryuu drags Masume out of the fray and off to safety.
Hours later, Masume is informed that the MASQ had stepped in to stop the fighting, though only Touka returns from the battle. In fact, nobody even notices that Satou is missing - that Satou had even EXISTED. With bitterness growing inside her, Masume goes along with Touka as they accept their titles - Masume gaining the title of Witch of Virtues and Touka gaining the title Peach Blossom Witch. The celebrations are short lived as Masume remains upset with Touka for being the only one coming back, and later for taking Satou's prize.
After the contest, Masume quickly falls out of contact with Touka due to her anger, choosing to wait around for Satou's return. But since her parents never returned, and Satou's disappearance continues, Masume is made to move to America with Ryuu and his family. Being a celebrity at this time, she's known quite well through-out the magical realm. However, this doesn't help her in her search for Satou, as nobody even acknowledges her disappearance aside from her close friends, which adds to Masume's bitterness.
Three years after the start of the competition, and just a short while after the end of it, Masume turns twelve. Then having had been apart from Satou from quite some time, she decides to find her sister. Thinking it best to join the MASQ, as they seem to have their fingers in every single pie, she begins to train herself up so that she could be qualified to join.
Which she does, passing the test with excellent scores and quickly joining the Investigative division. For the next couple years, she spends her time working the circuits, bringing in criminals and proving herself so that she can climb the ranks, in hopes that someday she may be permitted to use better resources so that she can find Satou.
In the Investigation division, on a typical mission, Masume takes down a murderous mage by herself, using magic that was emotionally charged. Before this task, Masume hadn't used offensive magic often, so wasn't aware that she had become so powerful. Even without being around her sister, the two girls continue to fill their magical containers to incredible levels, which Vinita is quick to realize. The two girls, even separated, can be just as threatening.
The power that Vinita witnessed leads her to send an assassin after Masume during a mission. In fact, she sends quite a few attacks in her state of paranoia. The first attacks don't seem to be targeting just Masume, which leads her to believing these are just terrorist attacks, rather than personal homicide attempts.
The attacks that had been made on Masume are quickly turned to the Witch of Sins stories, which prompts Masume's research into the subject. The Witch of Sins is well-known as a dangerous runaway witch, who has been missing for years. Masume's team is told to hunt her down, as Catriona has begun to hypothesize that the Witch of Sins may be after Masume's life, as she is her title counterpart. It is also theorized that the Witch of Sins may be related to Satou's disappearance, which gets Masume more into the case, and prompts her to be more thorough and interested in this case opposed to others.
Which is where she is currently in her story, and where she will be joining from.
Personality: Growing up with a very loving mother and father, Masume had always been a somewhat privileged child. They took her everywhere with them, let her experience the world around her, and gave her many experiences that most children aren't so lucky to have. Because of this, Masume became used to a lifestyle where she was given constant praise and attention, and always allowed to do practically whatever she wanted. It had made her a somewhat spoiled child.
As she got older Masume hasn't changed much. She has always been a relatively simple person. However, because of her vast knowledge of other places, and fairly firm grasp on other languages, she had always assumed that she would play the part of the "complicated, mysterious, and cool" girl. Which she used to do her best to maintain that type of persona, doing things like keeping things to herself - such as her wants, needs, and feelings. She was not very good at it, though, being quick to tell someone these 'secrets' once she had realized they'd given up trying to figure out what it was - or figuring out they simply didn't care.
It was always easy to see through her act, as she was a childish brat. She was quick to get frustrated and pout, or at the very least whine and cry about whatever was bothering her. And, despite her attempts to come off as the "cool, mysterious, magical girl," she was never very kind about the nice things she did for people, always having a reason behind it. She was always sure to let them know that she did it "because she wanted to, not because they needed her to" or because "she's a magical girl, it's her job, it's not like she did it for just them."
At her core, she has always been a good girl. She would do anything to help the people around her, be in take a bullet or give up a dollar. Though the way she treated people always contradicted her desire to be nice. When it came to the people she liked the most - aside from her older sister, Satou - she'd always been a bit of a bully, and didn't take their feelings into consideration. The only time she really began to notice the way she was acting was either after the fact, or until it had been brought to her attention that she hadn't been very caring.
These traits only grew the more she cared for someone, which is why her circle of friends had always been fairly small, or held together only by Satou's kind words and ability to soothe ruffled feathers.
It was never that she intended to act this way. In fact, if she were asked how she treated people, she would say that she's very kind and understanding, and does everything she can for them. Which she genuinely believed. In her mind she would go out of her way to listen and be understanding - which she did, to an extent, as long as their opinions weren't considered "wrong" or "unjust" in her mind.
Her sense of justice was what led her to the conclusion to become a "magical girl" in the first place. She wanted to be the helpful person that saved the day - she wanted to be the cool, good person that she had always hoped that she would be. And when the opportunity presented itself, despite initial hesitation, she jumped at the chance. Along side her sister, she knew that they could do good in the world. And, aside from that, the idea of being able to use magic was amazing and excited her, as it would to most any child.
As she grew into her teens, her personality shifted - as most personalities do. She gained a better sense of self control - though it didn't change the moments of weakness where she would pout and whine childishly, or become overly excited towards things that she liked or were new. But as she grew, she began to better understand what it was that she needed to do, and became more mature because of it.
The part of her that acted selflessly became more prominent, especially since her sister had seemingly disappeared off the face of the planet. She worked for the good of the people around her, but more importantly to find the person that had always balanced out her chaotic personality. Which was part of the reason why she had calmed; to emulate how she had seen her sister. As someone who was loving and kind regardless of who the person was, and who stood up for the weak and less fortunate. In a nutshell, she had seen her sister as a sort of messiah, who she now does her best to be like.
Her sister had influenced her before her disappearance with her kindness. Masume had always tried to emulate her sister's essential traits - being kind, generous, loving, and supportive - as seen during the contest with Mikale, who was a flip-flopper and not someone who Masume necessarily liked. But upon hearing that he was Satou's childhood friend, and someone she was doing her best to rebuild that friendship with, Masume did her best to pretend.
Now her kindness is more of a true trait, rather than something she puts on for the better of her sister - but for the good of everyone.
This doesn't mean her "mean streak" was completely wiped out. Her habit of bullying the people she cared about - well, more importantly, the black-haired male companion that had accompanied the party during their travels - stuck despite her attempts at a complete personality overhaul. In fact, towards most people that she harbored strong feelings for she still continued to act childish, one of the major things she held onto as a teenager.
There are some things that not even the most determined person can avoid in their teen years, and Masume is no exception. The need to be liked and the fear of being rejected hadn't escaped her. In fact, it became a prominent part in her decision making. If someone showed a preference towards one decision or another - especially someone she found to be important to her future, finding Satou, or to herself personally - she would jump to their desired result without question, just to ensure that they would continue to like her. She would do nearly anything to be accepted by those who she deems as valuable.
In that vein of thought, making and keeping friendships is very important to her. She enjoys the company of others and likes the feeling of "family," as she has so desperately desired. With her sister having vanished, her adoptive parents gone, and her blood family almost a complete mystery to her, she wants a family more than anything.
She has been allowed to have many families in the span of her young life. She lived with her blood family, the Sakuras, then with Satou's family, the Kuronekos, and lastly with Ryuu's family, the Owens. However, with each passing family she felt less connected. Less a part of them than she had the last. With her family, despite the pieces of her memory that she has lost of them, she felt loved. The feeling of being loved is something she remembers greatly, which is what causes her yearning for people that she can connect to and be with. The Kuronekos had been kind of her, and with time she had come to see them as her true family, but unfortunately time had also ripped them away from her. More slowly than her first family, but much more painful, as she was old enough to develop strong bonds with them. With the Owen family, she hadn't really made much of an effort to become close to them. Having lost two families in only a span of eleven years, it had certainly put a damper on her ability to really connect to a group of people like that again. And with the fear that they might disappear too, if she got too close to them, she kept her distance, making sure to few them as nothing more than a nice group of people who were willing to house her.
Friends, however close they are, are not seen as her family, but as a family of friends. With that sort of distinction on it, she feels that their safety is better preserved, and that she is able to keep people close to her.
However, there are some people she finds it less than valuable to hang onto - one of which being Touka Takamachi. She had been a close friend to Satou's, which is the only importance Masume finds in her. But since the day she had returned without Satou, and had taken Satou's prize title at the contest, Masume's opinions of her have been bitter, making her cold and unfriendly towards her. She behaves this way towards most people who she thinks have wronged her, or have acted in a way that she doesn't agree with.
Only those that she really likes sees her true side of her. Which is a whining, skeptical, hot-headed girl. There are only a select few that she feels comfortable enough to open up to about her inner feelings: Ryuu, the pack mule that had been with them since the get go, (and is someone that she might like) isn't someone she likes or anything, and Satou, her sister who, at the time, is MIA. Needless to say, there aren't very many people that would be seeing this side of Masume. It takes a lot to get that close to her - and when they do, it certainly makes her act a lot more edgy and awkward around them.
To anyone outside of the circle, they see someone who is more reserved - this time being better at keeping her thoughts and feelings to herself. She is nice to them, but she doesn't really let them know what's going on with her, her projects, or how she's doing. And she most certainly doesn't let them know anything about Satou - as so many people had forgotten about her that she thinks nobody has the right to even hear her name.
Her title of Witch of Virtue isn't all for naught, as she does, for the most part, encompass many virtuous traits despite her rude and bratty personality. She is constantly wanting to keep her friends happy and close, and does so honestly, by taking care of their - and her own - personal health and needs. And with the connections she keeps, she does her best to learn from the people around her, both in the intellectual realms and the social and common sense ideals. Her sense of justice is extreme, though her patience has grown with her, making it easier for her to make more educated decisions on people. Once she has made a decision, she sticks to it, pushing through all odds to make sure that she sticks to her word and to get the job done. She will not, however, use violence as a means to an end, making sure to resolve a conflict as peacefully as she can - using attack only as a last resort. She is willing to make as many sacrifices as a situation requires to keep the peace and happiness of others. With her gift of magic, she uses it for the sole purpose of good, always trying to save the day to the best of her abilities.
Which Masume has a lot of abilities to use, with her skills in magic at her disposal. Where she had once been nervous about using magic, she now sees it as a valuable resource to herself. She loves the idea of magic, despite its flaws, and finds it to be the one thing that she thinks truly understands her, in a weird way. Though magic hasn't always been good to her, or to the people around her. As much as she loves the ease of use and how it helps her in protecting those around her, the price system is something she has never understood. Why should there be a price on something that can be used for so much good? With seeing how the price of magic has effected others that use it, and how negative the results of it can be, it's never sat well with her. It's part of the reason why she does her best to use her own magic as much as possible, in place of others using theirs. Because as much as she loves her family, in her eyes, she's already lost them all. And as close as her friends are to her, she hasn't seen any of them going missing, so assumes she's golden.
She will always use her magic to protect and save those in need, seeming to somehow forget that she also has a price for magic. As much as the price system bothers her, and how angry it makes her to see how the price of magic can make her sister disappear from the minds of everyone, she still feels somewhat comfortable around it. With how much training she put into learning it so that she could use it for the better, and to ultimately find her sister, she sees it as a very valuable tool to her.
The most important thing is: she would do anything to find her sister.
CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR DANGAN RONPA, PLEASE READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!
Personality:
Kirigiri is a cold, stoic woman who never has a lot to say, however when she does, you best listen and hang on to every single word she speaks. Throughout any situation she is someone who is able to stay calm, as someone who will analyse, and investigate her surroundings, rather than talk to the other students. She never reveals much about her past, due to the amnesia she suffers; which is made-known within the game, once her memory returns; and Kirgiri is the first student to notice that Monobear had done something to their bodies, knowing he was the one who had planted said amnesia inside her own body. She is someone who finds it difficult to trust others, especially because of her past as all of her life she has needed to fend for herself; never allowing herself to rely on any other person, but herself. To say she is emotionless would not be a stretch, if something does bother the teen; as stated, she simply doesn't show it, which gives off the aura about her that she is cold, and mysterious, which is due to her no-tolerance attitude.
She is very intelligent, quick witted and blunt, someone who also manages to catch onto things easily, and can also be harsh, depending on the situation. Although Kyouko means no harm by it; her past is the reasoning behind her turning so cold, but she prefers to search for clues on her own, without the help of the other students. At times, if not at all, she is the only student to find out crucial details, leading to the cases being solved, and often has to push Naegi to accuse the culprit, helping him with the clues in the crime scenes. Often enough during the trials, she is able to let the true culprit slip-up with her words, and her own accusations which frames them in the end.
Kyouko is somebody who never says anything that is not necessary, and has stated this before that she is very consistent and she hates small talk, only deeming it very unnecessary. One thing we learn about her early on is that someone has been lost for her, and she has a very estranged relationship with her father. She despises and detests his nature and him, however one reason for her agreeing, and coming into attendance at Hope's Peak Academy was because her father is the headmaster of the school, and she wanted to speak with him one last time, to tell him she was cutting all ties. Kyouko states that she suffered from amnesia, which is why she could not remember anything before arriving at the school, even her own Super High-School Level title, but she realises later in the game that Monobear had done something to her body and she becomes frustrated and angry, demanding to know what he did to her. She detests it when someone asks her many questions, especially of her past and this reverts Kyouko back into her frustrated state - where she becomes frustrated with said person, as she much prefers to be and act alone.
Therefore, when you have done something that bothers her, you will know, and she will ignore you until you make it up to her, or if she manages to get over it. During one instance, she can been seen as hypocritical, when some of the students ask her questions about her past, or her SHSL title; she refuses, but when those students she is questioning, down right refuse to answer her own questions; Kyouko becomes annoyed that they are keeping their secrets to themselves. Within time she comes to trust Naegi, confiding in him about her past, and her own concerns within Hope's Peak Academy. Within her Ice Queen image, it causes many of the students to distrust Kyouko, as she is not able to remember her past, or her title; the students become wary of her, as it would come across as suspicious to the rest of the students.
She much prefers to wander off on her own, without the other students due to her detective title and skills, and if there is a clue to finding out the mysteries - you best believe she will figure them out. Her own attitude is calm and collected, but the mention of her father turns her into a mess, as she has only spoken of him to Naegi, although during the course of her time within Hope's Peak Academy; her wish to meet with her father, and have words with him is her goal, to letting go of her past and moving on with her life. Kyouko still believes all this time her father ran away because he hated his family, and that he became Hope Peak Academy's Headmaster so he wouldn't be seen as a failure of a man. This causes Kyouko to fall into a dilemma, during Chapter Six she and Naegi both enter her fathers secret office, on coming here the door is locked with a password- which Naegi realises is her first name, Kyouko. From thinking her father doesn't give a damn about her, Kyouko's attitude changes for a moment where she realised, maybe he did care and thought about her. This is further put into place after the bones of her father are found within a box inside the office, and the childhood photo of Jin Kirigiri and Kyouko sat on a dresser. However coming to terms with her father's death, after wanting closure of their history and wanting to know why he left her as a child becomes a lot for Kyouko to handle, and she asks asks Naegi to leave, to give her some space and time to come to terms with her father's death; which shows that obviously she cared for him as well, even if she never stated it.
Her main role within Dangan Ronpa is primarily acting as secondary support to Naegi, helping with the clues and within the crime scenes and giving guidance to the evidence presented out in the crime scenes, and due to her detective title, she guides Naegi to help finding out the truth-- even if she has to push him herself.
Character Name: Mu Alexius Canon: Magi: the labyrinth of magic Canon Point: Chapter 178 Background/History:the Magi wiki goes for the canon Previous Game History: n/a
Mu Alexius | Magi: the Labyrinth of Magic | reserved
Personality: Mu is the type of person who often has a kind expression on his face. And he is also a kind person, who likes to make people happy, even if he doesn't know them. For example, if there is someone who look up to him, he would like to show that he doesn't care that they're subordinates to him. In fact, he cares a lot about his subordinates in the Fanalis Corps, whom he gathered to both help the fanalis who were treated badly, as well as to protect the empire and the people therein that his benefactor and adoptive family Lady Scheherazade loves and wishes to protect, and whom he is unquestioningly loyal to.
He is cheerful and caring towards his important people. He's pretty laid-back, and rarely gets mad. His carefree nature is shown when he, while trying to break up a fight between his little sister and one of his friends, who both happen to be his subordinates, he is lifted into the air and flung right into a wall. He simply laughs it off, and comments on how strong the man who threw him was, compared to himself. He is not overly easily embarrassed, but he still has easy to blush and feel awkward, or when he is being praised by people he admire, like Lady Scheherazade. Praise is something that both make him embarrassed and happy, like when Lady Scheherazade tells him that he looks best when he smiles, after one of his bouts of seriousness. He is a man who talks a lot, and even more so when long silences stretches out awkwardly. He can't handle awkward situations at all, or overall, not long periods of silence. His tendencies to talk random nonsense isn't anything that makes him unintelligent, however. While he might seem like nothing but muscles and no brain, he is quite smart and perceptive. He can also choose to be polite if he wishes to, even if it's to people who are respectful towards him or his fellow fanalis and he would like his fellow Corps members to try to be it if they can. He's not the type to hold a grudge, but he will protect his family and friends if it's needed – even though most of them can manage on their own perfectly fine.
He often goes to the gladiator coliseum, so that the already popular arena will gain even more popularity. He is Reim's strongest swordsman and he knows it. He's not hesitant to mention it and make use of the fact. He thinks that both the swordsmen and the visitors will become happy to see that he's there to watch the matches. It is during this time that he takes interest in Alibaba, who has come to practice his swordsmanship in Reim, and he thinks that the boy shows promise and that he has a lot of vitality, which he finds good in a swordsman. He is charismatic, and has an ease with leading people, and because he is as friendly as he is, he is well-liked among his subordinates.
His cheerful attitude can change at times, however. When he senses danger, or when he believes that something is threatening the safety of the Reim Empire and his Lady, he can suddenly turn into a very serious man. One instance is when he feels that the magician's country Magnostadt was targeting Lady Scheherazade, and invading the Reim Empire's territory. He told her that he wished to become her sword, to protect the people of the Reim Empire. He has a determination that is harder than steel, and won't bend his opinions to anyone that compromises the safety of his home.
He thinks that the existence of the fanalis and Titus, who is Lady Scheherazade's clone, are unnatural, and that they are not humans. They're more monsters than anything else, created for a purpose, and as all fanalis, he thirsts for battle, and he feel alive in the heat of it. In battle, he is ruthless, and his cheerful personality has made as good as a 180 flip. He shows no remorse to the enemies of the Reim Empire and his Lady Scheherazade, and crushes them without a second thought. He likes his fights to be a challenge, though, because it's interesting if his opponents actually manage to put up resistance, even if he would never allow himself to lose.

Character Name: Keats Canon: Folklore Canon Point: Right after Chapter 6, before Ellen fights Baral, the Evil Eye Background/History:Tv Tropes or have a spoilery canon summary I wrote up!
Personality: If you looked up "skeptic" in the dictionary, you'd probably find a nice picture of Keats' face right underneath it. For, no matter what he goes through in his life, Keats will continue to drown himself in logic and reason without even a flinch. Met ghosts in the pub? Special effects. Gained powers to go to the Netherworld? A lucid dream. Talking to the dead like it's nothing? Probably going insane, or hallucinating, or both. Oddly enough, despite being bombarded in the face with the evidence that the supernatural is very much real, Keats just shrugs it off like it's nothing, expecting everything he sees to have a solid, logical explanation behind it. There's no freaking out, no pulling of hair, no utter shock and awe- Keats, upon seeing something out of the ordinary and highly unexplainable, just plays along with it, making casual quips about how this will get him a really good story when all is said and done. (This is highly ironic, given that he writes for an occult magazine of all things, but this head-scratching contradiction will be explained a bit later.)
Keats isn't the easiest man to get along with. He doesn't hesitate to snark like nothing else if he feels a person is being unhelpful or generally annoying, and can be horribly insensitive at times. For example, at one part when he discovers a dead body, he doesn't even show any feeling other than annoyance due to the fact that he lost a good source for his investigation. He doesn't seem to want or need any emotional connections to people, and merely just presses people with his questions, trying to find as many clues as he can. Keats is cynical, sarcastic, and doesn't try to sugarcoat things- if there's a brutal truth he needs to say, he'll say it, no matter if it lands him in hot water or not. That being said, he also doesn't really have any fear of going against authority- even when told numerous times in the story that he was a target for helping someone that the Faeries considered an enemy, Keats just shrugged it off every time. He doesn't care- all he wants is his story, and his story he will get.
For, what drives him beyond anything else in his curiosity. Despite his skepticism, he knows a good lead when he sees one, and he will do anything to chase after it. It's both a strength and a weakness- his curiosity is what keeps him going when the going gets tough, but at the same time, it can often lead him sticking his nose into places where it doesn't belong. Like any good reporter, he won't stop until he's dug out every last remaining facet of the truth.
But all in all...Keats isn't a bad person. Quite the contrary. Even if he can be incredibly sarcastic and brutally honest to the point of hurting someone emotionally, it's not out of ill will or anything. He supports people in a way they may not realize, saying things like "don't let down your guard" or gently replying "you won't fail" to a character's worry that they'll not succeed at their task. (I mean, although people make him out to be a heartless jerk, he really quietly does his best to help people- in this scene (it's a screenshot), for example, his first reaction to the spirit of a boy telling Keats he wants to erase himself is to try to persuade him not to.) He even goes out of his way to ensure the safety of a girl he barely knows. All in all, he's incredibly reliable, and won't trouble people with his own problems or thoughts- if they want something done, he'll get it done. Hey, you want to go prevent an entire race of beings from unleashing the fear of death upon the world for good? Sure, why not, he'll go along with it if he thinks it's interesting enough. But he won't acknowledge it if you thank him for what he's done. Much like his reaction to the supernatural, any thanks or gratitude will be shrugged off. Okay, he saved the day, but really, it's nothing.
It's nothing at all.
HUGE SPOILERS FOR FOLKLORE BELOW
The fact is, at this point in time, Keats completely and utterly believes he's a real human being. Just a normal 27-year old occult journalist who spends time in his apartment, typing up stories and occasionally having rants against his stupid teapot for falling and burning him. That's all.
The fact is...he's not human. His office isn't even technically a real place on Earth, just another realm of the Netherworld created to house him. He's been spending time in that office for the last seventeen years, staring at issues of the magazine that no longer exists...and he still continues to live his wonderfully woven lie of a life without thinking too much about it. Now, one realizes why he doubts the supernatural so readily- to accept the supernatural would be accepting that something is off with him, that maybe he's the odd one out...
As time goes on in the story, Keats slowly begins to have an inkling that something is going on with the things he encounters that might involve him, but for now, those thoughts will have to be put aside when he enters the strange world of Haven.

Character Name: Marshall Lee (the Vampire King) or Marshall Lee Abadeer (If using Marceline's last name.) Canon: Adventure Time Canon Point: The Fionna and Cake spin-off episodes. Background/History:Marshall Lee Wiki / His intro episode Wiki / Adventure Time Wiki / Marceline Wiki (For good measure!) Personality: (Bits of his personality and history will be used from the series' regular canon as well for the sake of fleshing him out a smidge. He is the male version of Marceline, another character from the show, but has not personally been in the show enough for an entire three paragraph thesis on his personality without fudging around a bit. I'm also the kind of person who did poorly writing outlines for papers but could write 'em out just fine regardless!)
A life of immortality and a thousand years of somewhat solitude have shaped Marshall Lee into the way he is today. A millennium of "life" can jade a young-at-heart vampire with the body and mind of a teenager so Marshall Lee tends to get bored pretty easily, always looking for fun or a way to create his own. He is extremely carefree and loves to joke around but in a way that could be taken as mean-spirited, rude and rough, sometimes even just to incite a reaction. When he involves others in his entertainment, he can act selfishly and impulsively, often thinking of his own enjoyment over the well-being of the others. Sometimes, he even can be purposely manipulative by tricking people or using selective vocabulary if it offers a higher level of dark comedy to the situation. His attitude is somewhat mischievous and he is not easily scared or intimidated. If asked, he'll be the first to admit that living for so long has caused him to lose his moral code.
He appears to have a confident exterior, reveling in who he is and his relationships with people but tends to classify himself as an evil villain and tries to live up to that, acting out in violent ways for attention or self-confirmation. Marshall Lee presents himself as a cool and calm badass with not a single care to give to anyone else. The cruel shell he presents make him a very lonely, slow-to-warm sort of person but once he grabs onto someone, he is not quick to let go. His emotions can get the best of him and sometimes, Marshall Lee's behavior can escalate quite quickly from prank to danger. Despite this, he is quick to feel remorse when it is shoved in his face and can even own up to his mistakes if he actually cares.
Marshall Lee definitely loves to look cool, from his punkish appearance, to his need to seem fun. Though he is somewhat free with how he feels, he expresses himself much better through song if finding the words is too tough. He carries around a journal which he uses for song inspiration, jotting down things that happen, funny anecdotes and long lists of words that rhyme. If Hot Topic existed anywhere in his peripheral, he'd definitely be the kind of guy to hit that store up but for now, he'll just rock his lumberjack shirt like a hurricane.
Abilities/Powers: Marshall Lee is a musical man of many skills. He loves to play the guitar and totes it around like a third arm, ad-libbing songs and raps as he plays. He can rhyme on a dime and exhibits a lot of creativity with his lyrics. Secondarily to his powers over song, he also happens to be a vampire, gaining many abilities through his undead status. He is often seen utilizing his power of flight, floating around as if the ground isn't inches below his toes and lounging in the air as if on an invisible couch. He is also able to shape shift into a few horrible and hideous monster forms, his favorite being that of a giant bat that stands on two legs. Because he is the vampire king, he has a proficient level of Necromancy and is able to raise the dead to do his bidding whether he needs skeleton slaves to attack or just drop some phat beats for his musical number. Though he carries an umbrella around to avoid it it, direct contact with sunlight hurts his skin and burns him (or could even melt him like the Wicked Witch if there's too much), he can instant heal himself if necessary. He also possesses telekinesis, pyrokinesis and can turn himself invisible, you know, like most vampires can. (This could be due to the fact that he's the son of a demon.) He is also immune to mirrors. Cast Reflect all you want, it's not very effective. Items/Weapons: Marshall Lee will bring his handy dandy retractable pink umbrella in case of sunlight and he will, of course, bring his electric guitar in the shape of an axe to strum upon and rock out. He also has his song journal as previously mentioned used for inspiration. Sample Entry:[ Craning his neck back to see just how tall the Billboard is, he smiles before hopping into the air and floating up the entirety of its height. Though the visible audience wasn't exactly plentiful, this would make a perfect stage for his next song.
He glances briefly at the man and woman behind the peeling paint as he floats on by. ]
Aw, isn't that cute? Not to be a brute but the point seems moot. I'm just acute, can't you see? Take it from me, Marshall Lee.
[ He lands on the top of the billboard, guitar in hand. ]
Here, it's quite clear, it's fear that we endear like the Nightosphere. So sit back as I attack a place so black like a raven. A place called Haven..
[ Proud of himself, he takes a bow. ]
Sample Entry Two: Marshall Lee looked at his new surroundings and could help but note just how dark, dreary and depressing with the added aura of death sprinkled in the mix they were. He loved it. He quickly pulled out his Song Inspiration Journal and jotted down the plethora of new D-words this place had inspired.
"Hm…" he thought out loud, tapping his chin with the capped end of his pen. Now that he was trying to think of words, it was a bit harder but inspiration was no stranger to a lyricist with one thousand years of experience. An idea lightbulb flickered above his head but, preferring the darkness, he quickly doused it before writing down a few more words. "Dank and damp, dingy, dusty and decrepit," he added with a slight smirk. "Heh, gross."
He shut the book and put it away on his person, levitating himself up higher to get a better look. He glanced around to survey the area. Not a cute little bunny or squirrel or adorable house-person in sight. No happy children or smiling mushrooms to hum merrily while Marshall Lee tried to sing his own songs. He slightly wondered if there was anybody to talk to or entertain himself with in this area. Not that he wanted to talk to anyone, he insisted to himself, it was just a simple curiosity that now had to be found out. Surely he could find someone to listen to the Desolate Dwelling song that would be ready but he time he found them, so off he flew in search of an audience.
On one hand, you have a really calm and collected person, who is capable of assessing, taking charge, and handling just about any situation. And on most days, he's like that-- aloof but nice enough to the people he cares about, and passionate to the core about the things he chooses to be passionate about. It's the things he doesn't have the capability of control over that he sort of loses it, so we'll go from there.
Let's tackle one part of him to start out, that will be very much compromised in the setting of the game. Kid has a lot of control over himself and what he chooses to do, to the point that his self and situational maintenance becomes ridiculous. He hand-picked his weapons to mirror each other for his comfort. He wants the situation to be properly contained and handled at all time, and he's actually pretty good at it. While one of the most obvious things about his personality is how he acts out when he can't keep it all together, especially to people who don't know him, the truth is he actually got his way more often than people would admit. He's perfectly capable of maintaining a composed, yet absolutely asocial demeanor that usually tells people 'I'm not really interested in what you have to say' and if he isn't, he'll let you know.
On the polar opposite of Kid's personality is his ever-famous OCD. In the earlier part of his history, this involved painting correcting for hours on end, devotedly fixing just about everything to fall in line with the laws of symmetry, an unhealthy love of the number 8, and it was never softened for a long time just how bad he would get. There is no end or curbing once a crooked idea enters his head and he has to straighten it out. While his amount of proverbial triggers is somewhat contained in-universe, in a new setting, there are all kinds of people and all kinds of things he will not have direct control over, like in canon. It's entirely likely for things to get out of hand, especially if someone decides to pick on this particular nerve over and over. It's important to understand this sort of stimulus has to be in most situations, presented to him, otherwise he is perfectly capable of functioning.
It's important to understand that Kid's ability to keep things calm and under control and his manic obsessive behaviors are balanced-- neither is the exception nor the rule. He is perfectly capable of one but finds himself leaning into the other when a certain idea enters his head and he fails to block it out. He is never more of one than the other, though his behavior often paints him as completely obsessive-- after all, to other people, it is the foremost thing noticeable about him. Again, though, it is not the rule. While he is perfectly capable of waiting out a scene even if there's a detail that messes with his OCD off, he is just as capable of getting distracted by the same detail later depending on multiple factors; severity of the scenario being at the top. He's also not necessarily controlling of other people, just his own situation if he can and will manage to do so. He can disagree without flipping out, he's mature enough not to.
But let's get away from that for now. His empathy quotient is low, but not non-existent. When confronted with someone who was trying to fit in and could have been a danger, he opted to be kind and ask that the person go along at their own pace to fit in, and try not to rush. This implies not only does he understand, but he's been there himself, and that rushing something as really delicate as friendship never really helped anyone. He's very quick to react when someone on the team goes down… On the opposite end, yet again, he can often think of himself when creating his own comfort, to the near exclusion of anyone else (for instance, begging to do someone's eyebrows, and not caring that the last time, it took a month.) Most of the time, he falls in the middle, often thinking about just his own group and his own wellbeing. Also, if someone betrays his trust, or earns actual anger from him, there will be zero forgiveness, ever.
… which, outside of his group of his friends, makes him a veritable loner. He tends not to display an interest in people that his inner circle doesn't introduce him to, and tries to stay professional and distant with people he doesn't know well. Even inside his group of friends, he still keeps that up, though showing he can be very protective or trying to be stabilizing by instinct. He arguably doesn't make friends very well because he doesn't want to, often people will have to make the extra effort, or be a certain way that keeps him interested. It's just a way he behaves-- while he definitely knows a lot of people, the amount of people he knows positively is a limited number. He prefers to be dignified, in control, and respected, even if that doesn't go his way all of the time, which balances him out quite a bit.
If worst came to worst, he would sacrifice himself for the sake of his friends, but a lot of what he does is to try to prevent that scenario from ever happening (though he has failed that pretty badly). He does a lot more for the people he cares about than he tends to let on (but friends can often catch onto that eventually). It's all about how you view Kid. Some characters view him as the most reliable person, and other people view him as a complete and utter train wreck who is beyond saving. Some view him as manipulative, some people he's so easily manipulated that it's a joke. The truth is he's shades of everything, and while he tries to give off one impression, that effort in itself gives off many. Even in several different phases of being unreasonable and unable to handle, he still makes time to keep everything together as a prodigy and as a fighter. It takes some serious inner strength to do.

Character Name: Crona/Ragnarok (as discussed due to them being one body) Canon: Soul Eater Canon Point: End of Chapter 32 (The Corner of the Room) Background/History:Soul Eater and Crona / Ragnarok It's important to note that the early canonpoint, compared to where the series is currently and the other characters in game, is because Crona goes through some severe changes and becomes pretty much unplayable due to extreme insanity.
Personality: This is just a small note to say that Crona's gender is left purposefully ambiguous in canon, even when other characters outright ask, and so I will be referring to Crona as 'their', 'they', and 'them' for the purposes of this application. Ragnarok, however, is definitely male.
Crona is, as we all are, a product of their childhood and parents. It's just unfortunate that Crona's mother happened to be a witch with an agenda of her own, and very little maternal instinct. Medusa used her child as an experiment to further her own goals, and Crona became a pawn in her chess-set from a very early age. This childhood left Crona with some severe issues, and a demon sword in place of blood (Ragnarok). At the core of everything, deep in their soul, Crona wishes nothing more than to be cared about and have friends. Yet because of their upbringing, never being allowed to mix with others, they don't know how to go about it. Maka remarks that Crona's soul is dry, parched for water, which appears symbolically after Crona has taken Maka's hand in friendship. This was a huge turning point for Crona and, such was the power of the friendship offered, a lot of the insanity wavelengths of their soul were quenched and balanced.
Given this deep desire to have friends, and the instances we see Crona as a child refusing to kill a small rabbit ("the little one"), it's easy to see that with any other parent that Crona would have grown into a kind person. Yet that wasn't to be, as kindness became warped into submission and a fear of the world, as well as an inability to "deal" with nearly everything. Crona's life and upbringing had been so sheltered and isolated, that their view of the world became very skewed and their life experiences are narrowed to a very thin tunnel. With Crona's only regular contact being Medusa, it was natural that Crona should want to please her... especially when not pleasing her led to being locked in a darkened room with only Ragnarok's punches for company. It was this regular abuse, during a refusal to kill a rabbit, that Crona's sanity finally began to crack. The influence of the black blood, the manifestation of Ragnarok the demon sword in Crona's veins, only made it easier for insanity to creep in. Eventually, Crona gave way and stopped disobeying, allowing Medusa to manipulate them into killing and devouring innocent human souls. This taboo act (for the consumption of human souls leads to evil and madness), only further disrupted Crona's mind. A lifetime of being a witch's experiment and has left Crona with a tenuous grasp on sanity, and a crippling inability to know how to cope with the world at large.
This fear is another core part of Crona's emotional make-up, rooted as deeply as the desire for friendship. A lot of Crona's mannerisms echo Asura's before he became a Kishin, suggesting that Medusa has manipulated that to try and put Crona on the same path as being a Kishin. Crona has been taught that the only way to overcome fear is through power, and that the only way to gain more power is through killing and consuming human souls. Crona is full of fear of everything, from the huge things like the abuse Medusa heaped on them, through to the smallest thing like the colour of Sid's skin. It's this fear that stunts Crona in learning how to deal with the world at large, and gives birth to their 'catchphrase' : "I don't know how to deal with X", which is said frequently through the series.
Once again proving how important friendship is to Crona, it's the time that they spend at the DWMA (Death Weapon Meister Academy), during which some positive changes finally begin to be seen. Though Crona suffers from horrible anxieties, shyness, and is easily unnerved, some of the other students continue to offer the hand of friendship that even manage to coax out a few smiles. This turning over a new leaf and becoming a student can't necessarily reflect on Crona's desire to do good, but is far more an influence of wanting to stay with their friends and make them happy. Unfortunately, even the importance of budding friendships can't eclipse the hold that Medusa has over Crona. When Crona's mother makes a reappearance and orders them to spy on the DWMA, betraying friends and teachers who have been kind, it doesn't take long for Crona to obey. The fear of disobeying and being subsequently punished, as well as the beguiling words of 'Medusa would be proud of you', have Crona switching sides again. It's clear that there is a lot of guilt over this decision, and that begins to have a negative sway on Crona's sanity again. This is where I'm taking Crona from, right before their disappearance from the DWMA.
The final significant piece of the Crona puzzle is, of course, Ragnarok and the relationship between the two. Usually a weapon and a meister are two completely separate beings, though this isn't exactly the case for Crona and Ragnarok. While they are entirely separate personalities, they share one body and literally cannot exist without one another. At some point in Crona's early childhood, Ragnarok (a demon sword), was melted down and used to replace Crona's blood. This had the side effect of giving Crona black blood and a weapon that lived constantly in their veins. A weapon and meister become a team because their soul resonances work well together, and this often means contrasting personalities that have strengths and flaws in different areas, and the same is definitely true for Crona and Ragnarok. Crona is the generally the follower in the relationship, and a victim for Ragnarok's bullying and taunts. And, though Ragnarok is one of the influences that have made Crona's life a less than happy one, he has always been there and the two do rely on one another to get through - though not ever very harmoniously.
Ragnarok is everything that Crona is not - loud, arrogant, rude, brash, and utterly self-assured. He lives up to his name of a demon sword and has no moral qualms about consuming human souls to grow ever stronger. Even when Crona becomes a student at the DWMA, Ragnarok still tries to encourage killing and devouring innocent souls. A lot of his strength is tied up in those souls, and even his size changes depending how many he's consumed. He's a selfish creature at heart, and will generally only do something as long as it holds some benefit for him. This sometimes comes out in petty ways, such as refusing to fight unless a substantial amount of candy has been offered, but a benefit to number one is always his driving motivation.
He's a bully, pure and simple, and takes a perverse pleasure in torturing Crona with taunts and minor physical abuse (such as noogies and pinches). He lashes out at Maka and Stein in puerile ways, using name calling and crude language to try and both hurt them and assert his dominance over the situation. And, in true selfish bully style, Ragnarok does not like to share what belongs to him. Perhaps the only thing that Ragnarok can lay claim to is Crona and, however much the demon sword bullies his meister, it's clear that he won't tolerate anyone else taking Crona away. He even says as much to Maka, warning her off by claiming ownership of Crona.
These selfish and often childish attributes aside, Ragnarok won't let Crona be seriously hurt without stepping in. This could be partially due to their partnership and being used to one another, but it's most likely due to their fates being intertwined now. If Crona dies, then Ragnarok has no body to inhabit, so it's in his best interest to make sure that they win any fights they go into together. There are a few instances where Ragnarok even cheers Crona on in a fight or buoys his meister's courage, and when they are alone it has been seen that they can converse almost pleasantly with one another (such as after Death the Kid's party). This shows that, while there is no denying Ragnarok is not a nice... person-demon-thing... he is not wholly irredeemable at this point in the story.
Together they form a complex partnership, one that walks a very precarious line in a morally grey area. In a place like Haven it would be very easy for them to tip one way or the other, into madness and evil, or sanity and redemption.
Abilities/Powers: As a weapon and meister team, most of the abilities are Ragnarok's and only channelled through Crona. However, as they are of one body, it's moot who's power is who's since they always fight together.
+ Sword: Ragnarok can coalesce into a broadsword style weapon with a mouth, this can be used like a regular sword to slice and parry and so on. If Ragnarok opens his mouth in this form, they can perform a move called "Scream Resonance", where they both scream and their wavelengths match up to provide an attack on their opponent. There is also a more advanced technique which provides Ragnarok with wings and enhances Crona's attacks, but it can only be performed after Ragnarok ingests a large quantity of human souls.
+ Black Blood: As Ragnarok exists as black blood inside Crona, this has several advantages. Wounds can be stopped up and healed quickly, and cuts can become weapons as the blood solidifies and spikes out or turns into blades of its own. This has several techniques associated with it - such as "bloody needles" and "bloody slicer", when Crona will either cut themselves or use the blood from existing cuts to create sharp needles or a blade for ranged attacks.
+ Insanity: When Crona is losing the battle with sanity, their attacks become more erratic and powerful. In addition to this, injuries don't seem to slow down the team in this state.
Sample Entry Two: The pale light of the moon, grinning as though in on a joke nobody else knew, shone through the window of the guest bedroom in the Academy. It illuminated a neatly made up bed, and a seemingly empty room. The teenager that should be occupying that bed was missing, as was the pillow, though closer inspection would find them huddled in the darkest corner of the room. Crona liked corners, they were comforting because nobody could sneak up from behind and attack, and here in the shadows people may not even notice anyone was there. The pillow was wet with tears, though when Crona's head lifted the only evidence that any had been shed was a slight redness of the eyes.
"I don't want to do this."
It was a quiet whisper into the dark, voice trembling with guilt and longing. Maka's face was the first to swim into mind, but it was quickly followed by all the other students and teachers who had shown kindness to Crona. Just thinking about leaving them behind, and then that they would know Crona had betrayed them, made fresh tears threaten to fall.
"Tough shit."
Ragnarok's voice sounded brusquely as he manifested to lean atop Crona's head. He was glad they were going, it would be a whole lot more interesting than being stuck in this stupid place with all its rules and regulations. Plus he'd get to gorge himself on souls and get strong again. With that in mind, he rapped his knuckles against the side of Crona's head.
"They're going to find out it was you that messed with screw-head anyway, and Lady Medusa won't take no for an answer. Quit snivelling and get going already, you're pissing me off."
Crona gave no other answer except to hide in the depths of the pillow again, sobbing quietly. It was just like before, Crona knew that nobody cared about this distress and nobody would come to stop the inevitable from happening. Crona allowed only a few seconds more of clinging to the silence in the corner of this room before standing up slowly, back bent. There was no need to delay any more, and Medusa would be angry if she were kept waiting, so Crona slipped away as quietly as possible.
Hidden beneath the shadow of purple hair wasn't an expression of sadness any more, but only a small and twisted smile.
Character Name: Mako Canon:The Legend of Korra Canon Point: Post-Book One Background/History: Avatar.wikia: Mako and the series.
Personality: Mako is the cool and straight-forward personality of the New Team Avatar group. Having grown up and taken care of a younger sibling out on the streets, he has adopted a maturity beyond his years. He lives to survive, a luxury he does not take for granted, and as such he is typically standoffish and apathetic towards strangers. On the other hand, should an acquaintance break through his initial barriers, Mako can display genuine affection and a playful sense of humor. This person would also have his utmost loyalty and care, his protective tendencies knowing no bounds, if almost to the point of gratuity. His greatest strength is also his greatest weakness: although Mako is "cool under fire" enough to set aside his emotions to focus and perform exceptionally on a given task, he is also insensible when it comes to handling personal conflict as well as the feelings of others.
Much of Mako's personality stems from his childhood spent on the streets. His parents were murdered in front of him by a firebending mugger when he was eight-years-old, forcing him to take on the task of taking care of his younger brother, Bolin, who is about two years his junior. He explains to Korra in the third episode, "I did what I had to do to survive and protect my little brother," which meant getting involved with the wrong crowds and "crunching numbers" for criminal gangs. At this point, he and Bolin have left that way of life, but he continues to display the street smarts he was forced to develop in the past. Mako therefore is used to carrying a heavy load of responsibility on his shoulders, and if he were to slip up his devastation would be immense. He exercises caution where Bolin is friendly and inviting; strangers, even the Avatar herself, must prove their worth to him on their own in order to gain his trust.
Once his trust is earned, however, Mako can be very genuine and kind. His compliments to Korra become more frequent as he gives her credit where it is due, and his other love interest, Asami, is the object of public displays of affection for a short time. He might exercise tough love on Bolin at times, but they share a compatible sense of mischief and humor when they are able to relax or, conversely, work together as a team. He celebrates good fortune, especially as good luck and the finer things in life do not come along very often for him, and he is openly thankful for every bit of it. He also proves to be a tender source of comfort when his friends and brother need him. Problematically, sometimes Mako's loyalty and devotion leads him to exhibiting over-protective behaviors, especially when it comes to Korra; however, his brand of erraticism is only occasional and probably more-so the result of a trigger on his fear for losing a loved one.
Despite his capacity for affection, Mako still cannot multitask his duties and his relationships. Once he dives head-first into a relationship with Asami, he continually struggles with his feelings for Korra. Mako tries the best he can to stave off the issue until the end of the war with the Equalists, on which he has no problem focusing. Each time Korra and Asami confront him about his feelings, Mako has evasive outbursts that pin blame for the situation on his own confusion or on other people. His behavior inevitably leads to his breakup with Asami, although he never intentionally means to hurt her; on the contrary, he never stops caring about her, but his mistake is focusing on one problem while pretending the other does not exist. The consequences of his actions on the emotional front will sooner blow up in his face than he will even think about them.
Luckily Mako performs very well outside of the emotional arena. His ability to bend lightning is a reflection of that, because the skill requires a calm and collected mind. He thinks quickly on his feet and he fights effectively. At his most focused, Mako can take on multiple opponents at a time (shown in his series introduction at a probending match), and he isn't one to brag about it. He does whatever he needs to do to get where he needs to be. Those moments where he gets distracted, such as when animosity with Korra almost loses his team their rank in the tournament, do occur, but the likelihood of that happening in a dire situation is slim.
Although his actions are primarily motivated by personal circumstances, Mako is a good and just person nonetheless. Not only does he stick out his neck for Republic City, but also he becomes an officer for the police force after the war is decided. He has a distaste for the city gangs, he earns his keep fairly, and he condemns cheating. When he gets riled up or calls someone out on their performance or behavior, he thinks it's justified. Because his heart is in the right place while being unafraid to tell it like it is, Mako is a solid and reliable leader figure.
He is overall a person one would want to have on his or her side. Although he is cold and aloof, he is devoted to what impassions him, because beneath his barriers is a very caring character.
Abilities/Powers: The most notable ability of Mako's is his firebending. Like any other firebender from his world, Mako can spontaneously create fire and generate heat. It is one of the most versatile forms of bending because the fire is inspired from within the bender, and it is almost limitless in terms of shape. Because fire is primarily powerful and offensive, this leaves Mako weak in defense, and so he must compensate in other ways.
As a sub-technique to firebending, he can also create lightning. He is first seen using this as a job to help create energy for a Republic City power plant, but later he uses lightning in battle. Lightning is directed from the user's fingers to his target, and Mako can reach short to medium distances with it. He is also shown withstanding an electric attack in which he redirects the current.
His bending is his primary weapon in battle, but probending has trained Mako to be quick on his feet and versatile with his body. Probending movements are largely inspired by those in boxing, and so compared to benders in the past series, his techniques are more "modern," or at least contemporary to Republic City's time.
Lastly, Mako has a good set of street smarts on him. He displays playful trickery with his "fire sneeze" trick, and he can read between the lines in terms of what gangsters are looking for.
Items/Weapons: Besides the clothes on his back, the one maybe useful item Mako will have on him is a pair of handcuffs. The other two items will be an Officer's training manual and a little black book. But hey, it's a hard knock life.
Sample Entry: video [Mako has been around for a little while, but he's used the communication device for scoping out any useful information of the place more than anything else. Finally he has good reason to make an announcement.
And he HATES it.
Mako sighs while fidgeting with the stupid phone. His expression is grumpy, but that isn't unusual for those who know him.]
I really didn't want it to come to this. Lately I've been hearing alllll about my eyebrows, of all the things—! [Wait. Stay cool.]
Alright, they're a little thick and they have this, this shape. I know this, because they've been on my face for the past eighteen years. But since we're all acting like they jump off my face at night to go tie everyone's shoes together when we're all sleeping, I've decided to open forum for you guys to get it all out of your systems. Have at it.
And if I hear about my eyebrows outside of this opportunity?
[He ignites a brief flame with his free hand, basically the firebending equivalent of a drop-mic before he ends the feed.]
Sample Entry Two: He opens his eyes a few minutes before the alarm clock beckons him to wake. Residing in this place they call Haven has made him perpetually tired, it seems, but no matter what his body rises with the sun, as if the sun itself ignites a waking flame within him. With a long sniff and a groggy sigh, he sits up on his mattress, the source of all his backaches, and rubs his face until that telltale ring. He shuts the sound with his hand and listens to his roommates' breaths some more.
Among the five of them, not one is Bolin, but his lips want to move anyway: Wake up, bro. It's time to get moving. Just the first of many prods.
Instead he stretches to a stand and stiffly walks to the bathroom. The tub has been filled with water the night previous to save their room multiple trips to the well for a while. He grabs a cup from underneath the sink and scoops up a helping of water. His hand heats up the mug to a soft boil on his way to the kitchen, where he grabs the second-to-last teabag and drops it in.
At least he's established a morning routine, but it's lonely without his brother at this point. He never quite realized how dependent he was on him for keeping his human spirit alive until now. For Mako, it had all been a matter of survival, and Bolin just happened to make him smile along the way. As he leans back against the counter and examines his roommates, all he sees now are people who are in the same situation as he is, and suddenly this morning he wants to do something with them.
So he does. They might not be Bolin or Korra or Asami, but maybe he could make a productive team out of them. A split decision moves him to dump a can of beans inside a pot and heat it up. He paces up and down their beds while one hand heats up the pot from the bottom, and the other whacks a spoon against the side.
"Guys, get up. I'm cooking breakfast." He voice is stern, but energized. One by one they begin to stir, groaning, yawning, paying attention, cussing him out, and one of them finally asks him why.
He grabs a bowl and pours a meager helping of beans into it. "We're going to Haven North today," he announces. He salts the beans and hands it over. "Here."
Character Name: Shiki Ryougi Canon: Kara no Kyoukai Canon Point: post Overlooking View Background/History:Shiki @ the TYPE-MOON WIKI
Personality: To understand Shiki as she is today, you have to understand how she was in the past—back when she still had the personality called SHIKI within her. The Ryougi family has the supernatural ability to be born with a second personality, one male and one female. Ever since SHIKI awoke within Shiki, she has never known loneliness, never known what it was like to be without someone else. However, it also meant that as a child, when she should have had a naive and unwavering faith in other people, she knew how ugly they could be. It was this that made her grow to dislike other human beings, and herself for being one, and why she didn't interact with people all that much. SHIKI outright states that he and Shiki both hate other humans, and that certainly seems apparent given how distant and cold Shiki appears to be. That wasn't to say they disliked each other; rather than think of them as separate people, they're just two faces of the same person, just with different priorities. Shiki, who did not want to be harmed, could only "affirm" things while SHIKI, who only knew of harm, could only "deny" things. SHIKI represented all of Shiki's repressed thoughts and desires, things that could potentially open her up to other people. As they put it themselves, Shiki killed SHIKI over and over within herself. That's why SHIKI only knows of murder.
Due to the nature of having such a complicated split personality, there is a history of family members who inherit this trait going insane. By attempting to masquerade at a somewhat normal life, Shiki thought she could deal with her abnormalities like that. However, once she met Mikiya Kokutou, things began to change. Rather than just pretending to have normal "happiness," she began to understand what it meant to truly have it. She who was so far removed from normality, who at first glance could be called abnormal, began to understand what it meant to be normal. Unfortunately, this created a contradiction within Shiki that she couldn't resolve—with a heart that could only "affirm" things, she wanted to deny this chance at a normal life because she whole-heartedly believed that she couldn't attain it. Denying was the "domain" of SHIKI though, and it caused the two to become more and more out of sync. Both of them could see that continuing to interact with Mikiya would only cause insanity; to resolve this, Mikiya had to die. However, Shiki couldn't bring herself to do it. To destroy her own dream with her own hands—that's just too cruel, right? So instead she took the only option she saw available to her; she took herself out of his life by letting herself get run over.
Skip to two years in the future though, and it turns out that getting run over by a truck landed her in the hospital in a coma! Who knew? But more frightening than that was the fact that Shiki could no longer feel SHIKI. He was gone, had disappeared—he was dead. For the first time in her entire life Shiki knows what it means to be alone, and if that wasn't bad enough her eyes began to see strange things, lines that could make something break apart and die with a single touch. Frightened, confused, and utterly alone, she attempted to gouge her eyes out in a fit of terror. Fortunately for her though, that was when a woman by the name of Touko Aozaki stepped into Shiki's life and offered to teach her how to actually use her eyes. Not wanting to fall back into the empty void she had been seemingly floating around in for the last few years, Shiki decided to take her up on that offer.
Which finally brings us to the Shiki of today: a cold, apathetic, and sarcastic young woman with a rather awful liking for murder. With SHIKI dead she can't help but feel a distinct separation between the her of the present and the her of the past; she views her own memories like one would view a movie, as part of the audience and completely uninvolved. While she does recognize herself and knows that that girl is her, she can't help but not feel like that's true. However, to make up for the lack of SHIKI's presence, she takes up speaking like him while preserving her own self by acting as she did. That is to say, she speaks in a distinctively masculine way and is as blunt as they come, but also acts reserved and distant to those around her. She can be hard to approach, that's for sure.
Shiki is very apathetic, to a rather frightening degree even. Most sights that would disturb or scare other people don't get much more other than a passing glance from her. Ah, a body just landed in front of her after jumping off a building you say? Not her problem, Shiki's just going to walk around it. Wait, what do you mean her arm is being broken and twisted irreparably? It's okay, she let that happen on purpose so she could get an opening to strike, she'll take care of that later. Even if someone was to tell her something like they killed their own parents, rather than react with horror or disgust, she merely questions it instead. However, she can also come off as rather insensitive, such as saying that if a bunch of girls wanted to go ahead and kill themselves, they should have done it in a way that wouldn't bother anyone like jumping off a building. While it has to do with her rather strange view on death, it's also because, well she really doesn't care—as stated before, she isn't fond of human beings to begin with.
That's not to say that Shiki is impossible to get along with though. While she is indeed hard to approach and difficult to get along with, there are a good number of people she interacts well with. She's not above teasing someone or picking on them in a friendly nature, finishing their punchlines, or saying something absurd just to get a reaction out of them. With the right people, Shiki just comes off as rather whiny and sarcastic. She can seem like a bit of a party-pooper or even downright pouty. She likes asking people out-of-nowhere questions and getting a good laugh out of them, not in a mean or mocking way, but in the way a good friend always has something to tease about you. Perhaps it was due to how she was raised, but she can be especially sour if she doesn't get her exact way, enough to do something just for spite or payback. Look, she really wanted to take a look at her katana, so Touko saying she couldn't was just asking for trouble! It's not like taking the Harley with the sidecar just because Touko said not to was that bad or anything, right? Shiki is also very much a creature of whim; she might save someone from attacks out of boredom, or become somewhat upset that she's not allowed to feed some fish in a tank. She can be a bit unpredictable.
Still, as said before, Shiki really isn't someone you want to mess with. One of the conditions in working for Touko was being allowed to kill. Along with adopting SHIKI's way of speech, she adopted his own taste for murder as his own. That is to say, Shiki is a violent person. She knows how to act proper and behave in proper society, but she also won't hesitate to use force and violence if something stands in her way. Given a good enough opponent, she's never one to turn down a fight. This also stems from the fact that due to her disconnection with herself from her past combined with her natural apathy for things, the only time Shiki actually feels alive is by putting her life at risk. While she has no intention of getting herself killed, the risk of potentially losing her life in close combat with someone is the only time she feels like she's not floating in some strange limbo between past and present, life and death.
However, despite her violent tendencies, she also has a great respect for death. Part of it is from being able to see death with her eyes, but it's also partly because of her grandfather's last words to her. He told her that a person could only kill one person in their entire life: themself. To kill another person is to kill yourself because you can't go back to the way you were before after what you've done. Since then, she's kept those words close to her heart, and because of them, her views on killing are a bit different from the norm. Murder, massacre, and slaughter are all completely different things in her mind, only one of them being even remotely close to acceptable. Though she would claim otherwise, she takes very special care not to kill humans. Everything else is fair game though—whether you're a spirit or a magus that was once human, she doesn't care. Granted, that doesn't mean she's going to go out of her way to save people; watching someone kill themselves doesn't particularly bother her, nor does seeing others get attacked.
Above all, Shiki truly loves Mikiya Kokutou. Sure, she's now capable of interacting and befriending other people—even liking them—but almost everything she does is in one way or another for him. While her deep respect for death is certainly a factor, she tries not to kill people so as not to disappoint Kokutou. Most of the times we see her actually lose her cool are not when experiencing great pain or anything like that, but when something is somehow or someway threatening Mikiya. She tells Kirie, the spirit that was making girl commit suicide, that she was killing her not because of the suicides but because she dared to try and take Mikiya away from her. When Satsuki Kurogiri tells her that he'll bring back her forgotten memories, she attacks him because she does not want them back—she is very well aware of the fact that they could destroy the peace she has managed to create with Mikiya. More than anything, she does not want to disappoint the undying faith he has in her, despite being unsure if she even deserves it. While she doesn't come to understand her own feelings for a long time, Shiki loves Mikiya and would do anything to see him safe and out of harm's way.
Abilities/Powers: Shiki's most powerful ability would be the Mystic Eyes of Death Perception. They allow her to perceive the inherent mortality, or death, of theoretically anything and everything that exists, in the form of lines and dots. Tracing or cutting the line will damage the target, usually resulting in cutting, cracking, or falling apart. Piercing a dot effectively erases the target's entire existence, thereby killing it; this death is apparently so absolute that said target cannot be revived in any way, not even through reincarnation. However, the older something is, the more "existence" it has amassed, thus making it more difficult to kill; finding the "death dot" takes a longer time and more concentration. They can still be found, but it just takes more effort. According to magus Souren Araya, she could find the "death dot" of anything as long as she tried hard enough. Basically, Shiki really can kill anything, from a person to intangible magic to thoughts to even God (or so she claims), so long as it exists.
As the heir to the Ryougi family, Shiki has been trained in numerous forms of self-defense, most extensively sword-wielding. This particular skill has been trained so far that wielding a Japanese katana will induce a sort of self-hypnosis called self-suggestion, greatly increasing her mental and physical capabilities. For example, when armed with a knife, her usual weapon, crossing a distance of three meters is a fairly easy task. However, should she be armed with a katana instead, her range instantly triples to nine meters.
Other abilities of note include being proficient hand-to-hand combat, a near inhuman tolerance for pain, her left arm actually being a magically enhanced prosthetic arm, and her instincts. She has enough self-discipline to withstand having her arm twisted and broken in midair without much reaction beyond narrowing her eyes. Her prosthetic arm has the ability to grab objects from a distance along with things that can't usually be touched such as ghosts and barriers. It is incredibly durable, so much so that it couldn't be broken without the force of an elephant stepping on it. The prosthetic arm also has a hatch in which Shiki can store a spare knife. Her instincts are described as being more like a sixth sense than mere instincts as she can "reel in the future" simply by hearing and imagining. To put it simply, she's way too good at predicting the moves of whatever her subject of interest is at the time. Items/Weapons: knife, throwing knives, and a spare kimono
Sample Entry:Yo. Sample Entry Two:The next time Shiki saw Mikiya, she'd have to tell him that it wasn't her fault she didn't go to school this time. After all, how was she supposed to know she'd be suddenly kidnapped for some dingy world unknown?
Not that the conditions bothered her much honestly; then again, not much did. It was worse than what she was used to of course, but it's not like it was that difficult to adapt to. In a way, it almost suited her lazy and unconcerned lifestyle better. There were less people to interact with when doing simple things like fetching water or getting food. From a lifestyle standpoint, the worst part about this was that she only came with one kimono. Either she'd have to take extra care of her clothes, or she was going to need someone to make more for her.
Unfortunately, that was only from a lifestyle standpoint. No one told her that things were going to be so boring here. For all the doom and gloom of the damn place, where was the threat? What did she have to be worried about? A few "monsters" were hardly any of her concern, and none of the people she had seen so far were worth her time. She hardly even felt alive like this; she woke up, looked for something to eat, maybe walked around looking for something to do (to fight, really), then slept everything else off. Rinse and repeat for the last god-knows-how-long. At least at home Touko would probably have something for her to do at this point. Hell, even talking to Mikiya would've been better than this dump.
But neither of them were here, and if she gave herself the time to think about it, Shiki would have been nothing less than grateful that Mikiya wasn't here. He'd probably get himself killed, or worse.
And he'd probably tell her that was she was doing was reckless, stupid, and to turn back around right that instant and go home instead. As Shiki started walking down the tunnel to Haven North, she was especially glad for that. With nothing but her knife tucked into her obi and hands shoved into her pockets, she continued aimlessly down the tunnel. It wasn't the city at the end she sought, not even with all of its supplies. If the monsters in here were as tough as people had told her, then she was just looking to feel alive here.
Character Name: Shinya Kougami Canon: Psycho-Pass Canon Point: Post episode 18 Background/History:Episode synopses Shinya Kougami Specimen case Personality: Shinya Kougami is a hunting dog. He specializes in the hunting and capturing of criminals, doing as the Dominator tells him to. At least, his outward person exhibits that type of person who does as their lawful navigator says and doesn’t question it in the least. After all, he has a mission to complete – find the murderer of his former subordinate and solve that case once and for all. It’s all he cares about, to the point he honestly has blinders on about everything else that’s going on around him. He’s forwarned not to take part in investigations, but finds he can’t keep his nose out of it, no matter what. He’s always nonchalant in his conversations, unless it’s something he’s interested in, then he’s known for showing an extreme emotion of some sort.
He says he wants to be more than a hunting dog to Akane, but even she notes that when he corners his prey, he looks like a carnivorous animal. And that’s honestly how he acts despite saying he wishes to be otherwise. While he wishes to solve the crime of his underling’s murder, he’s so blinded by it that all he wants to do is find the man who killed Sasayama and kill him for his crimes. It’s made even worse by the fact that the man who is behind the murders is incapable of being judged by their current law. Though as tough as Kougami acts and runs into danger like it’s nothing, he’s admitted himself he’s afraid of dying, at least before his objective is met. It’s the reason why he listens to the Dominator so easily, because he fears that even a moment’s hesitation will mean his life is going to end. And because he willingly listens to the Dominator, he knows it's ruling him, and not the him ruling the law. Perhaps, it's a trust in the system because he himself knows how hard he fell once he felt all that criminal intent. Though because he sees himself as a criminal, he tends to act like one. He's a bit unruly with everyone, then again, everyone sees him as a lesser being of society since latent criminals are seen as non-human. In that sense, he has little sense of self, and is the first to degrade himself in that manner.
When it comes to his actions, he’s an ‘act first, think later’ kind of guy. His actions are based on pure instincts, but he’s almost always right due to having what their system believes is the psychology of a criminal. Though he is quite smart and educated as he was an honor student growing up and even keeps up with his ‘education’ via reading books. His organization is near top notch as well, at least for things he’s interested in, such as the murder of his subordinate – he has all the files in order and is able to look through them if he ever needs to at some point. All in all, he wishes to achieve his goal, that's what all of his attention is driven towards. When he notices the girls murdered and plastination was involved, he automatically knew it was related to the murder of Sasayama, but also knew that the actual murders were not the same. It's noted he has a strong detective's sense, and is able to calculate things rather easily based on little nuances at the scene. It's not unusual for him to figure out who the murderer is given a couple of clues. So while he acts unruly, and does whatever the hell he wants (with the accompaniment of an inspector -- namely Akane because she lets him do what he wants, or she will shoot him otherwise if she thinks he's doing something that's honestly bad), it's an unwise thing to underestimate just how intelligent he is. After all, he was an honor student and got top notch grades good enough to be recommended to the MWPSB for a position as an inspector. He just happens to be an intelligent man with the psychology of a criminal working for the good guys. It's having the psychology of a criminal that makes him hated by society.
Though Shinya exhibits a nonchalant and sometimes unruly personality, he does care about his co-workers quite a lot and shows it in his own way. For his deceased subordinate, he actually took up smoking and smokes the exact brand he did as in remembrance of him. For Akane, his personality softens just a bit, showing some vulnerability knowing that she would never attack him in spite and actually tries to smile and soften up for her. He really has a way of reading people and knowing whether he should be on the defense, offense, or just make an attempt to be himself. Also, Akane treats him as a human, which in a way helps him see himself as human, and not some hunting dog. He mentions to her it's rare for people to apologize and thank an enforcer, but also because of that he has a high respect for her and trusts her as his superior. Her sense of justice is naive, but it's refreshing and he finds himself drawn to that -- that he could be a detective and not just Sibyl's hunting dog. That she's not his 'owner', but his partner. Because of that, when it comes to cases and other matters, he opens up to her quite a bit showing her just how brilliant he really is. That he has things that she can learn because of his experience, and he can help her not take the path he ended up on. Though he notes they have a lot of similarities especially involving the death of her best friend, that she would do anything to solve her murder, as she saw the murder in front of her and was the only person to see the murderer himself. It's one of the few times he tries to interfere in hopes she won't fall into the same path she did, but it's also a time when Kougami realizes she's more resilient than she is, and will take therapy to recover... unlike him. Still, when it comes to her, he becomes protective, unaware of the emotions he may feel towards her. Solving the case comes first, figuring out his relationship with Akane comes later. But he does know that he cares enough to at least say goodbye when he escapes the facility. That she did deserve an answer and some closure. All he knows is that he doesn't like seeing her down, and when he was there at her side, he did what he could to keep the glum mood away from her. Someone like her didn't deserve that kind of mental hell at all.
He shows some friendliness towards Ginoza as they did attend school together and grew up as classmates – in fact, he’s the only one he speaks to on a nickname basis while he treats others with some form of formality. All in all, Kougami says he wishes he could be a detective, but it’s he himself that treats himself like a hunting dog. He punishes himself for not having the mental fortitude to keep his psychological health clear, and uses Akane to get out when he can knowing that she will never turn down his request. In that sense, he knows not to take advantage of the law since he knows full well just what it does, especially in this era. He knows that there’s only two choices for him – spend a life in rehab, or live as a hunting dog for society and actually solve the murder of his subordinate.
Despite his mostly harsh personality, he does have a sense of humor. When Akane looks at him while shirtless and inspecting his body, he asks “do I have something on my face?” to try to embarrass her. When he gets out of the hospital early, he jokes that he threatened his doctor when he in fact just persuaded him. Though he is well aware of who not to joke around with, such as Ginoza. He doesn’t take jokes at all, and Kougami never tests his luck with him, rather he tries to keep their friendship professional. He’s well aware he disappointed Ginoza when his crime coefficient shot up to the point of not recovering, but he only beats himself up for it.
Blaming society is the last thing Kougami does.
Akane is everything he wanted to be as a detective. She’s forthright, has a naïve faith, and has a determination to see justice had – including the innocent being saved from Psycho-Hazard. Seeing how easy she is to mold, he does take her under his wing, and even near congratulates her curiosity when she found out what happened to him to have him demoted. When she asks if he’s mad, his response is that if he were mad, it would be at himself for allowing the murder to happen in the first place. In that sense, Kougami is rarely ever angry at people. The only people he's truly pissed off with are those who murder for fun, and that allows him to kill them with ease at the judgement of the dominator.
All in all, he cares for people more than he likes to let on, and he will protect them however he can. Akane is the one he’s more open about his caring with, to the point people call Akane out on it, but never once question him. Though while he’s caring, he isn’t the type to sleep around. When Shion asks him if she should have slept with him once, his response is “sorry, you’re not my type”.
Shinya is a duty driven individual that has tunnel vision when he has a goal he wishes to meet. He will do anything to obtain his goal, to the point he would hurt others, such as Akane though he cares enough about her to leave her a letter before he ran away from the facility. But his main goal is to kill Makishima – his arrest is not enough for him at all. Because the only justice to be had is criminals being punished to death. If the dominator can't judge Makishima then he will do it himself, even if it means becoming a murderer and at Sibyl's mercy.
Abilities/Powers: Kougami has a fighting style known as Silat, and is rather strong for a regular human being. However, he states he's still human as he can be taken out with other means, like a paralyzer. So while he has an advanced fighting style, he's an ordinary human.
Items/Weapons: Revolver, cigarettes, and a lighter. Sample Entry: "Every society gets the kind of criminal it deserves. What is equally true is that every community gets the kind of law enforcement it insists on." Robert Kennedy.
It doesn't matter what kind of law system is created, that quote will always hold true. Somewhere, there's someone unhappy with the system and will do whatever they can to dissolve it. Just as there are people who will do whatever they can to keep that same system. [Kougami pauses as he brings up a cigarette to his mouth, lights it, inhales, then exhales as a puff of white smoke clouds the camera.]
But how would you like to live in a world where you aren't judged by people, but by an machine of sorts? Where you're labeled a criminal before you've even done anything just because you thought of killing a few bastards? [Another pause as he takes another puff of his cigarette.] It seems like a fantasy, doesn't it. People would think that such a system would have no errors in it since it's a sentient being telling people how to live in order for them to have the greatest happiness in life.
No choices, just an aptitude test.
The great thing is that most people find it ideal. [There's a but hanging on the end of that sentence, but he's not going to elaborate. Instead, he's going to bask in the freedom he has here, even if it is some sort of supposed hell.]
Sample Entry Two: Nothing could distract Kougami from his goal, not even the cigarette he was lighting. The weight of that case was always on his mind, but he took a large part of the blame for allowing Sasayama out on his own, even if he did have a lead. It was because he had that lead that got him killed -- so many 'what ifs', but there's nothing he could do about it. Just get his revenge. A vengeance years in the making, only made stronger when he found out Makishima couldn't be judged by the system that forcibly made him an enforcer, simply because he wanted Makishima to meet the same fate that his partner had faced. To experience the same pain that Inspector Tsunemori did as she watched her best friend die in front of her.
Inspector Tsunemori may not have the will to kill within her, but Kougami does. It's why he can go out with a killing intent, on a manhunt to find the man who robs people of their lives for his own amusement. Even if he can understand why he does it, even if he doesn't agree with Sibyl himself, he can't agree with the taking of other's lives just because he has the ability to get around the system. A gift in this world. A gift like Inspector Tsunemori has, that no matter what she's seen, her hue remains clear. Maybe Kougami really is taking too much on himself, but at least he can do something. At least Makishima is practically beckoning to find him and kill him.
And it's because he wants to do his duty as a detective that he wants to see this through. That he could care less about his livelihood, because in the end, he'd be getting his revenge and protecting everyone.
Even if it meant he knew he was hurting Inspector Tsunemori. She treated him as a human, and he greatly respected that. She allowed him to inspect scenes when he had hunches, following him and trusting him because thanks to his years on the job, he could profile cases with ease. A trust he lost to most people because of his demotion. But in the end, he's doing this to protect her too.
But first and foremost it's his selfish desire driving him. To satiate that need for closure. And by his hand, he will make sure that the deed is done, that Makishima will die. If not, then he doesn't know who would rise up to the task, knowing that Sibyl and the MWPSB would become their enemy.
With one final puff of his cigarette, he let the butt fall into the ashtray. Now was the time to take off and finally find Makishima and end this once and for all.
Once upon a time, there was the country of Roland. Mind you, this wasn’t your country of kings and knights and princesses to be saved—but rather, a country frequently described as “darkness”. Ruled under a tyrant king and existing for the amusement of the people, anyone not in the upper class led a hard life. The ‘normal’ people lived in poverty and fear, and the military were nothing more than dogs of the nobles. And while the corruption within the country persisted, war after war occurred with neighbouring lands as well. And so, Roland took care to create the finest soldiers it could—namely by training them since young. It was common practice to take children, possibly experiment on them, and force them into brutal training from which only the strongest survived. Among the military, the Hidden Elites division was especially infamous, as the section that existed ‘underground’—the darkness of the darkness, so to speak. In the Hidden Elites, one was brought up believing that they were special, chosen, different from others, stronger than everyone else, etc. Therefore, they should devote themselves to Roland. Those who no longer produced results were disposed of.
This is where Zohra Rom appears. As child of slaves, he’s born as one of the ‘common’ people. At the age of three, his parents are killed before him, discarded for being weak. From that point on, Zohra becomes obsessed with one thing: power. As long as he has that, Roland won’t kill him like they did to his parents. And so, Zohra trains—trains and trains until, eventually, he enters the Hidden Elites. Granted a mansion with numerous servants, he’s risen from a child of slaves to someone living like the nobles. It’s a rather impressive accomplishment, at the same time that Zohra realizes it could all easily disappear. The moment he stops moving forward, Roland will throw him away.
Consequently, Zohra continues to aim higher. At the age of ten, he’s close to becoming the Greatest Assassin in Roland, a title currently held by a girl a few years older than him by the name of Biore Mente. Realizing that there's no need for two top assassins, her existence is a threat to him. By chance, Zohra meets her while she’s on a mission to assassinate a Hidden Elite member, Ryner Lute. Though Zohra initially intends to kill her, believing that she's here to kill him, he realizes that's not the case and instead tells her to run away while she can—after all, he'll be taking her title, rendering her useless to the country. However, she then happens to mention that this will be her last mission. Therefore, she’s retiring, or rather, as Zohra realizes, Roland secretly intends to dispose of her now.
Either way, Zohra continues on with his own missions, one of which happens to be to take care of two fugitives, Pia Varliere and Peria Peruula, who’ve last been seen in the holy kingdom of Veiohl. Zohra almost immediately locates Pia, drinking tea outside of a café. While initially in awe of her beauty, he strikes. However, Pia easily takes care of him and, with Zohra’s persisting attempts and threats, taunts him for being weak. In the process, Zohra claims to be stronger than her master, Germer, whom he’s also been told to kill.
—Wrong thing to say, however. It’s then that Pia gets serious, pinning Zohra down and holding a fork to his eye. She then asks on what grounds he believes that, threatening to stab his eye if she doesn’t like his answer. Realizing that she’s afraid that Zohra killed Germer, he backpedals, explaining the truth and revoking his claim. Deciding to believe in him, Pia releases him. While he’s staring at her, in awe of her strength, she proceeds to accurately guess his thoughts, calling him “average”. This comes as a shock to Zohra, who’s been raised being told that he was a genius—that he was a chosen person. Understanding how much stronger Pia is than him, he begins to question his own existence, as if he’s weak, then he has no reason to live. Thus, he asks Pia to kill him.
Unfortunately (?), Pia will have none of that. Instead, she convinces him that everything Roland’s told him is nonsense. Afterwards, she laments how her tea time was interrupted, as everyone in the vicinity, including the café workers, ran away when Zohra attacked her. As an apology, Zohra offers to make her more tea. As he’s doing so, he comes to the conclusion that he’s fallen in love with Pia (as clearly, there’s nothing more attractive than a girl who can beat you up and threatens to stab your eye with a fork).
As a result, his reaction when he spots Peria talking to Pia and making her laugh is predictable enough: he attacks Peria. The aftermath is also predictable enough: Peria beats him, much like Pia did earlier. As Peria and Pia move to leave, Zohra realizes how much weaker he is than the two of them and thus unworthy of being by Pia’s side. At this point, Pia tries to comfort Zohra by telling him that he’s plenty strong, even if he couldn’t win against Peria or protect her. She also then claims that Peria isn’t strong enough either, giving Zohra hope that he still has a chance with her. Thus, Zohra promises to become stronger until he becomes a man who can protect her—so won’t she wait for him? She claims that she won’t, and that she doesn’t like being protected. However, she also gives him this:
“… So… hurry up and become strong. Become stronger than me, become a man worthy of standing by my side, and then you might be capable of stealing my heart?”
She then departs with Peria, leaving Zohra to mull over her words.
When he returns home, he receives the news from his subordinates that Biore Mente has been killed. Upon the denial that it was by Ryner Lute’s hands, Zohra doesn’t need to ask any further. He can understand what happened—that is, Roland did throw her away, after all. Even though she was the Greatest Assassin in Roland, Roland chose to get rid of her for their own reasons. Needless to say, Zohra realizes that that will likely be his own fate one day.
And so, taking Pia’s words to heart, he changes. From an uncaring assassin who would take on any job, he changes.
Three years later—at the age of thirteen—he’s gone from being called a genius to being called a problem child. He’s still special, and he’s still different from normal people. Except now, he’s looked down for it. He’s yelled at, tortured, imprisoned, and likely to be killed, but he ignores all that. He won’t change whom he’s become now. And that person is simple: an assassin with standards. He won’t kill children, he won’t kill women, he won’t kill the weak, he won’t kill thoughtlessly, he won’t kill if he doesn’t feel like it, and he won’t kill if he doesn’t think it’s right. In short, he very much chooses his own missions now.
One such mission would be Ryner Lute, aka Biore Mente’s target from three years ago whom she didn’t kill, now hailed as the Greatest Magician in Roland. Zohra receives the order to assassinate him, and though it occurs to him that this is likely a trap set by Roland, much like what they did with Biore, he chooses to accept it.
He locates Ryner easily enough, despite Ryner’s attempts to conceal his identity. Upon realizing that Ryner is only a child—or rather, the same age as him—Zohra decides not to kill him, but seeing as how Ryner must be strong, he certainly has nothing against fighting him. A quick fight reveals that they’re equals, eventually sparking Zohra to ramble on about how his ideals and why he gave up on the title of the Greatest Assassin in Roland and the amazing girl he met three years ago (and some stupid guy who happened to be following her) and essentially his entire life, all to one very uninterested Ryner. He ends up accidentally smacking Ryner’s pillow out the window, and upon Ryner claiming that it was a precious heirloom, Zohra hurries out to fetch it. Ryner then locks him out and places his wardrobe in front of the door.
Zohra responds by blasting his door (and wardrobe) apart with magic. Problem-solving skills, Zohra has them.
Understandably enraged that Zohra just disintegrated all his clothing, Ryner ends up fighting him again for the next ten minutes. At the end, they both exhaust themselves with a tie, before Ryner asks if Zohra honestly intends to defy orders, knowing that Roland won’t let him get away with this for long. Sure enough, the army shows up to take care of both of them, tired after their fight. One of the members includes Quont Quo, the previous Greatest Magician in Roland before Ryner defeated him. Eager to fight him and prove that he’s stronger than Ryner, Zohra easily takes the man down, before moving onto fighting the others. With Ryner’s help, he takes care of them all, though hundreds more come. Despite Ryner’s warning that Zohra will be killed if he doesn’t run away, Zohra chooses to fight rather than escape.
And then—he dies.
“And the kid Zohra Rom died… and right away, the Great Zohra Rom who’s a hella lot stronger than the Greatest Magician in Roland kyaaaaah how cool please go on a date with me—no, sorry, there’s someone else, honey version of the great Zohra returned from that hell like a phoenix and was born to this world!”
The more elaborate version: in three days that have passed, he got himself familiarized with the nobles that dislike the ones who put an assassination order out for him, got said order cancelled, killed the ones responsible, and is now back to tell Ryner his life story. The two get along as well as they usually do (i.e. not very well) and end up fighting again. And with that—
'This is the first meeting between the two kids who defeated the Greatest Magician in Roland.
Character Name: Hakaze Kusaribe Canon: Zetsuen no Tempest Canon Point: After the plans to destroy the Tree of Beginning have been finalized, but before the plan is actually carried out so that she still has access to her magic. Background/History:Wiki | Hakaze
Hakaze Kusaribe | Zetsuen no Tempest | Not Reserved [2/3]
Personality: At heart, Kusaribe Hakaze is a kind, compassionate, and considerate woman; each of these traits are displayed in her desire to help those around her, honor their feelings and wishes, and in her willingness to deny her own feelings for the sake of others. Along with these, Hakaze believes in atoning for her sins, fulfilling promises, and repaying debts, even if it means giving up her life to do so.
Hakaze has a strong sense of duty and responsibility. With her role as the Princess of Beginning, she is the only being capable of fully reviving the clan’s god, the Tree of Beginning, and the only one capable of defending against its rival, the Tree of Zetsuen. The Kusaribe clan’s duty to protect the laws of the world set forth by their god is inborn to Hakaze and she has a strong desire to protect those around her at all costs, even if it means sacrificing herself. However, if pushed far enough in extreme circumstances, Hakaze is willing to disregard her calling in order to prevent personal tragedies from occurring in the lives of those precious to her. As a result, she can be swayed by her emotions, and if she believes strongly enough in her conviction, Hakaze can become angry beyond consolation and let her headstrong determination drive her to accomplish her goal. She has admitted that her emotions have some control over her actions and stated that it was a possibility that she may kill Fuwa Aika in a jealous rage because of their mutual affections for Takigawa Yoshino.
However, as well-mannered and intentioned as she may seem, Hakaze is far from a divinely-chosen saint in personality. As the Princess of Beginning, she is well-aware of the favor the Tree of Beginning shows her and displays absolute confidence in her power as the self-proclaimed strongest magician in history. She knows very well what she is capable of and believes that there is nothing she can’t do once she decides it. Hakaze believes that her very presence on a battlefield would ensure her victory and that her power is greater than the combined strength of hundreds of fellow Kusaribe magicians. As the leader of the Kusaribe clan, she is quick to display her authority over other clansmen; once she gives an order, she expects it to be followed without question, even demanding that she be obeyed. Further expressing her self-entitlement and authority, Hakaze uses the pronoun 'kisama,' which is regarded as extremely hostile and rude, by default with nearly everyone. Likewise, all clan members refer to her as 'hime-sama.'
Though she can be annoyed at times with being treated as such, she does take her title of princess seriously. Normally, Hakaze tries to act in a solemn and authoritative way, even speaking in a proper manner one could expect from a princess, although there are also times when she fails to do this. Hakaze is unafraid to speak her mind and often has outbursts where she will raise her voice in protest, or where she’ll find fault in something someone has said and point it out to them. Likewise, Hakaze has been known to display impulsive or outlandish actions, such as delivering a flying kick to a stranger because of a bad feeling, or attacking a car carrying fellow Kusaribe members, just so they would stop and pick her up. To add, she found neither of those to be out of the ordinary. Hakaze also isn’t above using others to meet her ends, as shown with her enlistment of total strangers to assist with her plots.
Having been born as its princess and avatar, the Tree of Beginning has blessed Hakaze with divine fortune and has protected her from all hardships since birth. Hakaze’s luck and will are able to influence circumstances and put her in situations that will work to her advantage. For example, if she were in desperate need of a particular object, the Tree’s power would present it to her. She rightly believes that if she were to desire something strongly enough, the Tree would notice her feelings and manipulate reality in a way that would benefit her and ultimately grant her wishes.
Because of her protection, Hakaze is a somewhat sheltered individual, having never experienced difficulty, serious pain, or even something simple like stiff muscles. She is often overly optimistic and she’s accustomed to having things go her way. As a result, Hakaze has great determination and very little sense of fear or danger; she is willing to attempt precarious and exceedingly difficult tasks because she whole-heartedly believes the Tree of Beginning will protect her in all endeavors. Similarly, Hakaze is unafraid to destroy property or sacrifice a limb to prove a point, knowing that it can easily be regenerated with magic.
Her inexperience with things most had learned at an early age resulted in her behaving in a rather childish, almost tsundere way when she fell in love with Yoshino. At the time her feelings emerged, Hakaze was oblivious as to why she felt the way she did until it was explicitly pointed out to her. As a girl experiencing her first love, Hakaze became very nervous around Yoshino and chose to both hide and rid herself of her feelings as best as possible. She feared that her intense feelings would prompt the Tree of Beginning to kill his girlfriend for her, although her attempts to move on resulted in her falling more deeply in love. After the identity of Yoshino’s girlfriend was revealed to be the Fuwa Aika she'd heard mentioned so much, Hakaze was plagued with an intense sense of guilt and wondered if her eventual love had been foreseen by the Tree and was the reason Aika had been killed a year earlier.
Despite some of her flawed personality traits, Hakaze did gain some perspective and a bit of humility after meeting Yoshino. The events that transpired since their meeting showed her that her power may not be as absolute as she once thought, and Hakaze began to take a more active lead of her life and surroundings, rather than having reality and situations bent to her whims.
Zatanna is young, fun-loving, and adventurous, with a rebellious streak and outwardly confident presence. She often puts up an innocent front at first, only to say and do things that instantly destroy said front as casually as possible...such as (proudly) admitting to having used her magic to sneak out of the house, or not-so-subtly indicating that she couldn't tell on her new friends if they took her along on their unsanctioned mission. Impulsive and new to the world of crime-fighting (by the end of episode 26, she will have three months' field experience), she is prone to making the occasional wrong decision, if for the right reasons. Usually.
There is a degree of flirtatiousness in her demeanor as well, as evident in the several exchanges she shares with Robin from their very first meeting. No matter how obvious or lame his advances come off, she takes it all in stride and does absolutely nothing to discourage him. Quite the opposite, in fact: when he attempts to apologize for a particular line about her "moves", she smirks right back and simply says, "I don't mind." (This attitude/behavior resurfaces at a later time when she unabashedly refers to Red Tornado's human android alter-ego as "cute.") Interestingly enough, she also seems to share his fondness for toying with the English language; when Robin tells her he's trying to act nonchalant, she tells him to be as "chalant" as he likes.
At the same time, however, she does have her priorities in order. When the joke is over and it's time to step up, she's ready and willing. It was one thing go follow along when the Team interrogated a suspect. But even when the Team Leader politely suggested she should stay behind at the first sign of battle, Zatanna cast a spell to transform herself into what would become her signature battle look, as her way of declaring there was no way they were leaving her behind. She stood alongside the others, even collaborating with Kid Flash on an attack.
Though she gets along well with the team as a whole, the two people closest to her--by far--are Artemis and Robin. The former was one of the first to openly declare that Zatanna would "fit in" with the others just fine, and later went with her on an impromptu Girls Night Out. Their adventures led them to battle a villain calling himself Harm, and the (explosive) experience brought them closer together. By episode 19, the two girls were almost like sisters. Meanwhile, Zatanna's relationship with Robin started off with witty banter and slightly awkward flirting. The longer they spent together, however, the more genuine the feelings became. This trust and growing sense of genuine affection accumulates until New Years', when she finally takes matters into her own hands--literally--by grabbing him for a traditional kiss at Midnight. One which he is more than happy to reciprocate. During the ordeal with the split worlds, she confided her uncertainties in him, and he responded by offering the words of encouragement she needed to hear. In front of most everyone else, she puts up a mask made of smiles and sass. But Robin? He may be the only person on the Team who knows how much she doubts herself.
A doubt that could very well have led to her resorting to donning the Helmet, assuming the identity of host body to Doctor Fate, knowing fully well there was a chance Nabu would never let her go; even after her Father exchanges his soul for hers, she continues to blame herself for the loss, believing that Giovanni would still be there if she had not taken it upon herself to act without telling anyone.
Abilities/Powers: Zatanna is a member of the homo magi species, and thus inherited innate magical powers from both her mother and father. She can cast most any spell within her limits by reciting incantations in 'sdrawkcab hceeps' (a style unique to her family, in part, because of her lineage being traced all the way back to the great Leonardo Da Vinci, who was known to write his notes backwards). Some of her noted spells include creating temporary clones of herself and her teammates, converting flora into ropes (and gags) for restraining villains, encasing a large area in a giant dome of blizzard-level weather conditions, flight, getting a detainee trained in resisting telepathy to blurt out a truthful reply, changing her and Artemis' clothing, summoning objects, and otherwise manipulating the elements around her to bend to her will.
It is theoretically possible for her to teach others to use her spells as well on her behalf, depending upon the person's affinity for magic and/or difficulty of the spell.
However, if her ability to speak were hindered in any way, she would be essentially left powerless. Spells also require extreme focus and (in terms of more challenging spells) time to prepare. Most telling is her own admission of her power coming from within, meaning any spell beyond her current capabilities would not work. If she uses too much of her own energy, it could drain her to the point of physical exhaustion. At worst, it would backfire on her in unpredictable ways.
Her spells are generally cast in backwards English, though she is also fluent in Italian (as her father immigrated to the States from Italy before she was born) and speaks basic High School-level French.
Items/Weapons:
Top Hat - Zatanna will come into possession of a magic top-hat (keeping in mind that she did not have a tophat in canon) that allows her to store anything indefinitely inside, regardless of size. When not in "use", it is worn on her head. The catch is that items stored within must be able to last at room temperature. Hot foods will not be kept nor, nor cold foods cold, without accompanied insulation.
Personality: Wally, first and foremost, is a superhero. This means he actively commits his life to justice whether he has his powers or not and has a strong sense of what is right and wrong. He risks his life for people every day and is proud to do so. Helping people fills Wally's life with the excitement and attention he needs and craves, though at first he reasons for wanting to be a superhero are mostly superficial. He seeks attention everywhere he goes, wants people to notice him and remember him (and gets annoyed when people can't even remember his name; it's Kid Flash, how hard is that?)—which may also explain his flirtatious attitude: he just wants girls to notice him, so he plays it up and keeps playing it until it works (it usually doesn't, but that doesn't stop him from trying). However, this isn't to say that Wally doesn't enjoy doing his job, he just doesn't understand that it's not about him until he's deployed on a mission to save a little girl on his birthday when the rest of the team is off fighting ice villains with the Justice League. (This hasn't actually happened yet from his canonpoint perspective, but I mention it mostly as evidence that he can and will eventually mature.)
Of course, because Wally is a speedster, he is very impulsive (though he was impulsive before he became a speedster considering he just decided he wanted to blow himself up to become a superhero), and often speaks his mind or acts without thinking about the consequences. He also just talks a lot, and tends to ramble, especially when he's explaining things. Again, he likes to be the center of attention. Of course, his mouth is particularly uncontrollable around females, who he flirts with relentlessly, regardless of whether they seem interested or not. He's constantly trying to impress the ladies (and will go to great lengths to do so, like pretending to believe in magic when he most definitely does not), gives them nicknames ("Megalicious" for example, though this is more headcanon than canon), and even if a girl seems slightly repulsed by or indifferent to his advances, he continues flirts with them anyway. This usually gets him in trouble with Robin, who tends to reminds Wally how forward/rude he's being by hitting him. Wally also tends to respond to Robin's hitting/joking with his infamous, indignant "dude!" Of course, this isn't to say that Wally is a creeper. Sure, he tries a little too hard, but no means no—and in the case of Megan, the main reason Wally continues to flirt with her is because she hasn't rejected him openly or given him any indication that she isn't interested. And while it may seem obvious to everyone else, Wally's obliviousness is simply a product of his naivety. Sometimes you have to be very blunt with him before he gets it.
However, he isn't stupid, just slow sometimes. He may be a speedster, but he can be pretty slow on the uptake sometimes, and he's almost always late to things. This is mostly due to the fact that time passes different for speedsters, so he always thinks he has more time than he actually does. This makes school particularly boring, because sitting in a chair and only moving to change classes every fifty minutes is extremely taxing for a speedster, though this is mostly on applicable to classes like English and History, or classes where he's not actively doing anything with his hands or brain, like in any of the science or math classes. Science is, of course, his passion, and he truly is a man of science—he got his powers by re-recreating the Flash experiment after finding his uncle's notes; he correctly identified the chemical makeup of Kobra-Venom; he's tried multiple times to explain why magic can't exist because science explains everything (pocket dimensions, using science to simulate magic etc.); he even walked Robin through how to make an EMP emitter. He may act dumb sometimes (coming up with a truly dumb idea literally helped them on their mission to locate Red Tornado), but he really is quite intelligent, you just have to give him the right opportunity.
Despite his seemingly large ego and confidence in his intelligence and abilities, Wally is actually hiding a number of insecurities: that he isn't fast enough, that the Flash doesn't really want or need him as a partner (Flash was never looking for a partner; Wally essentially forced/guilted the Flash into taking him on as a partner due to the way he got his powers), that he'll never get a date. He plays it all up and acts like he's all that to cover up the fact that these things do in fact bother him and he'd rather ignore his issues than confront them. He even admits in a later episode that he's comfortable staying in denial about his outburst to Artemis' "death" (which Black Canary suggests might be due to his possible feelings for her).
That being said, he does have a temper, though most of these instances happen much later in the series—his near-violent reaction to Artemis' "death" (vowing to kill every last alien if it was the last thing he does) as well as his confrontation with Dick in the second season where there was violence in response to the fact that Dick almost died and in the process endangered all the members of his team. He can also be passive aggressive (as he was during 90% of "Alpha Male" when he was annoyed that Kaldur hadn't told the team about the mole) and holds grudges, and because he'd rather ignore the problem at hand, these grudges can last a while—he held a grudge against Artemis for at least a month for lying to him just as he was beginning to accept her as a legitimate member of the team.
Being the butt of jokes doesn't help either, though he's mostly used to being teased and plays it off like it's nothing because he's the comic relief character. But sometimes it bothers him that people don't always take him seriously—part of the reason why he bickers with Artemis so much (the other part being that he doesn't fully trust her, at least from his canonpoint)—and that's when he starts to get indignant and sarcastic. He can be quite the sassmaster when he wants to be. Plus, being a sidekick, it's basically written in his nonexistent contract that he must make stupid puns and throw quips and snark at people, which he does frequently. He's got a great sense of humor, and usually has witty comebacks to things, unless he's around Robin who tends to outwit him. He also tends to make pop culture references—from Harry Potter to Planet of the Apes—and he has a good deal of nerdy memorabilia/merchandise in his room (as seen in the Young Justice side comics). He's passionate about the things he loves and isn't afraid to show it.
Abilities/Powers: Superspeed, which includes but is not limited to: ability to run just under the speed of sound (around 700 mph), accelerated metabolism (he needs to eat a lot to keep up with the massive amount of calories he burns running, but even when he's not running his body functions much more efficiently so he's still burning way more calories just sitting around than a normal human would be), accelerated brain function, accelerated healing, and superhuman reflexes. He can also make small wind funnels by running in a circle fast enough and he's fairly acrobatic (he can at least do a basic backflip). He's also shown an adeptness for mechanics (he offered his 'expert help' in fixing Superboy's motorcycle) and there's the obvious science smarts. He's a pretty good go-to guy for anything science-related (specific examples mentioned above).
Personality: Owain, even among his eclectic group of allies, is considered the craziest person in the army. Among the company of others, he likes to speak as if he’s narrating a novel or play. This comes complete with flowery language, poses, and sound effects. Most people tend to laugh at him or, in the rare case, actually enjoy it but despite the reactions he continues on. Often this is pre planned as it’s noted that he thinks up or writes down these stories ahead of time, as if he has too much time on his hands. Sometimes he says it’s done by improvisation but after he claims that, he often ends up stuttering.
The odd thing is, he rarely seems to have much time on his hands in the first place. Owain is actually known for his skills with building and repairing weapons and armor of all types. He’s the go to guy when it comes to getting your things fixed or getting new, unknown items identified. That and he is shown to be a rather helpful person, often butting himself into other people’s business to give them a hand with physical chores. This also comes with the penalty of being insulted for his flowery language but he doesn't seem to mind.
The one thing Owain is focused most on is JUSTICE. And not just JUSTICE but the revenge aspect of JUSTICE. Almost all of his stories have the main character, himself, going through a traumatic event where upon he rises up from it stronger and powered with the anger of vengeance. He even has something he calls ‘Avenger Mode’ in his stories where he loses sight of his goal and goes berserk with rage. He’s overly infatuated with the idea of saving people and protecting them with the power of justice. With that, he also pretends his sword arm isn't exactly under his control and it thirsts for blood. While almost surely an act, he plays it up to such a massive degree that he even gains imitators and fans in one of his endings. And the one thing he is most known for is naming his weapons. He claims that it gives the weapon a soul and greatly empowers it.
Despite all of that above, Owain is actually a fairly normal, if dorky and hot-blooded kid. He can verbally spar normally with people he doesn't get along with, such as Inigo, or have decent conversations that amount to good small talk, such as with Lucina. Or he can show that he cares...normally...as shown in many of his S-ranked supports. Even if he’s over enthusiastic and enjoys winding tall tales, he can love and worry just like anyone else. As a matter of fact, one could say the person he loves most is his mother and he vows to protect her no matter what. Whenever his mother, Lissa, smiles, Owain feels at his best. He also houses a small complex for his father because, in his grimdark future, his father dies protecting him from an attack. Just seeing something similar leaves him in tears because he doesn’t want it to ever happen again. Because of this and his mother’s death, he acts like he does as a way to gain more power to protect them when he travels back into the past.
Also, with the permission of the Lon’qu player currently in game, Owain’s father will be Lon’qu.
Abilities/Powers: Owain is a very talented swordsman. In the Fire Emblem universe, this means that he can jump over ten feet into the air, cleave through armor, and swing his blade incredibly fast. His speed and skill are his highest stats, granting him the ability to attack more and to activate his abilities more often. As for abilities...
Astra: Allows him to attack five times in the time space of a single attack.
Lethality: A small chance that Owain’s hit is so accurate, it serves as a lethal, one shot kill.
Swordfaire: When using a sword, his attacks are more powerful.
Vantage: Once Owain falls below half health, he attacks first, no matter the situation. In RP terms, it probably means he gets better the more hurt he is.
Acrobat: Allows him to cross any terrain without a movement penalty. Or, in short, able to move across any terrain at full speed.

Character Name: Richard "Dick" Grayson (Robin) Canon: Young Justice animated. Canon Point: 1x26 - Auld Acquaintance (right at the stroke of midnight, New Years) Background/History:Canon || Robin
Robin, designation B01, Batman's sidekick, most experienced and longest lasting in the field today. Batman's sidekick, the Boy Wonder, and half of the famous dynamic duo. Most don't get to see much past that - the R on his chest, the flash of red on black. He's the kid at Batman's side, short and thin, black hair, and more often than not, grinning for the cameras. He seems to be the light to Batman's dark, the kid hero who stands at his side. He must be talented, if Batman keeps his around, quick and strong and useful. Batma's protégé, the next in the line. If you're a hero, you might get to see the grin up close. See how seamlessly he works up close to Batman, closer than anyone else has gotten. You might hear the laugh, a little out of place in such a gritty city like Gotham, echoing all around you. You might even see him work, the computer on his wrist one of the many mysteries that modern technology can provide. He's active, he's able, and he's smart, talented. You'd expect nothing less from Batman's sidekick, but it's a bit of a mystery of why it works so well. How. Sure, it's every child's dream to be a superhero, but dreams and reality are so different, you might wonder how he's still alive.
And it's true, it is somewhat of a mystery. A mystery that Robin has learned to work with, adapt to. He's been Batman's sidekick, in the field, for four years now - they work at an almost telepathic level, able to predict each other's move without needing to speak, to even ask. Robin, before joining the team, was used to this level of independence when he worked. This changed, of course, when he become a part of Young Justice and he adapted accordingly, learning to be specific in his plans, describing what he's thinking out loud (through a telepathic link of course) to his teammates. It took time, yes, but he learned. He got better. He might be the youngest and the smallest of the team, but Robin has a very determined drive to make sure he is not the weakest link, won't allow himself to be the weakest link. Of course he still wants to, from time to time, try and go off to do things on his own - but the want has decreased while being on this team. He's learned the advantages of working with people he trusts, intrinsically, and enjoys what can come of it. He's efficient and he thinks ahead, has each step of every plan ready to go and ready to explain when the time comes, but don't take that to mean he can't think on his feet. Robin's known to be the one on the team to come up with a plan on the fly, getting them out of many a situation on spur of the moment, multi-faceted plans. And they're alive, which is saying something, knowing the kids of things they face. He's athletic, strategic and extremely intelligent - and it doesn't hurt that he's experienced, too.
But that's not all there is. Behind the mask - behind the Robin - there is Richard Grayson. A fourteen year old mathlete who likes computers and word-play. Whereas Batman keeps his secret identity completely separate from his heroing one, Dick isn't so successful, and a lot of who he really is comes through even when he's wearing the mask. Because really, think about it. This is a teenager (pre-teen, if we're being technical) who has to spend countless hours with Batman, the light to his dark, and that has bred a very sarcastic, sometimes overly confident, kid. Rob will make fun of just about anyone, given the situation and the material to work with (Wally is his favorite target, though. He just makes things so easy) or anything. He inserts humor into situations to alleviate the gravity, to keep everyone's mind off the fact that this is all very real, and very dangerous. The laugh, that comes through when he's fighting, is part of this - he likes to make his presence known, though not outright. He'd much rather sit in the shadows and echo his laugh around the room, confuse the bad guys before he jumps in, because what is more frustrating? Being knocked out before you even know you're being followed, or being taken down when you know someone there, somewhere, and is laughing at you? Described as being lighthearted and somewhat immature, Robin found himself taking up a very little-brother-esque role with the rest of the team (save Zatanna), and seemed quite fine with that. Robin's also known to be quite social, able to get along with just about anyone and everyone if he wants to. He has a tendency to give people chances to prove themselves, rather that writing them off from the get-go, and reserves first impressions. But like it is with most, the difference between being friendly and being trusting is completely different.
Robin is Batman's sidekick, yes, and is being trained to be what many believe is the next Batman, but beyond just the different takes to crime fighting, Robin and Batman differ in very important, very basic ways. For one, as there are with just about every teenager, Robin has doubts. He's spent enough time around Batman to know that he will do anything for the save of the mission, and after a very traumatic training-gone-wrong, where Robin played that roll and ending up, effectively, sending all of his friends to their deaths, he made the self realization that he can't do that. Doesn't want to become whatever it is he'll need to become to be able to do that. He sees the darkness that eats up Bruce Wayne, the pit in his chest that grows day to day, and he doesn't want to become that. Which is why he opens up to people as much as he can - maybe not completely, because no one needs to know about his insecurities, his fears that he will never be good enough or never be able to prove himself enough - but at least he has friends. The Team, for one. Robin has a bond with Kid Flash, Superboy, Aqualad, Artemis, Miss Martian and Zatanna (Rocket too, with time) that he's not sure Batman has with the Justice Legaue. He's not sure Batman can have that connection with anyone but him, and that weighs on him more than anyone really knows.
Through and through, though, Robin is a hero. He has a very intense sense of right and wrong, but unlike Batman, he lacks the complete confidence in his belief. Yes, he knows he's the good guy. And yes, he knows they're the bad guys, but he also knows sometimes you have to act like the bad guy to get the good stuff done. And yes, there's a line you don't cross, of course, but you do what you have to do. Sometimes that line might make him look like the bad guy, or make the bad guys look good, but there is a line. A very specific line. And sometimes...sometimes he questions where that line falls. That's what he has Batman for, who always knows where that line is, or his team, who help him draw the line when it needs to be. Batman might be training him to be a leader, and his team might recognize that yes, one day, he will lead, but it's this inability on his part (and you could even call it immaturity) that keeps him from doing it now. Leaders take control, leaders lead and don't question what orders they give, who they send where, and while Robin might act like he's there - that he's at that point - he isn't. Not really. Not yet.
All in all, Robin exists in the grey in between. He can be himself - the fun loving, troll-like flirt who acts much more confident than he is - and he can be the hero - the disciplined acrobat who can hack and who can kick butt all in the same day - and he hasn't decided which is him, more. Batman is Batman - Bruce Wayne is the mask and it's all about the job. But Robin...Robin isn't sure if he can do that, yet, and hasn't. Hasn't made that decision, hasn't taken that step, and for him that's perfectly fine. For now. Because he has his team and he has his friends and that can be enough.
Character Name: Celestia Ludenberg, though this is a fake name. Her real name (in Western order!) is Taeko Yasuhiro. Canon: Dangan Ronpa Canon Point: End of Chapter three, however she will pretend to only remember up to the end of chapter two. Background/History:Celestia’s Wiki | Game wiki | Game wiki 2 | Let’s Play
Personality:
Celestia lives a life of high stakes, or so it would seem that way from her ‘Super High-school Level’ title, ‘Gambler’. Despite her title, gambling really isn’t quite such a difficult feat for her as it would be for anyone normal. She was born blessed with with the skills for gambling, and has never lost a bet. This even includes during games such as shogi that she says she is not familiar with. Yet, that is the point that must be noted: that Celestia ‘says’ it is so, does not necessarily mean it is true. The biggest point of her personality is that she is a fabulous liar. She is in control of her emotions, but also on top of that she can manipulate them to fool others.
Of course, this is part of the reason as to why she is so good at gambling. Keeping a calm composure in the most difficult of circumstances, or the opposite, pretending to be affected when she is barely bothered by a situation. She constantly tells the others that the only way they’ll survive is to ‘adapt’ to the situation - she even says this with a gentle smile on her face; however, this is also a lie. When the truth comes out later she tells the others who would be able to adapt to a situation like this? Being stuck with the people she has been stuck with, and that she hated every moment of it. As beautiful as she may appear, and as elegant, the truth is that she is a lot like a rose. She may look like a doll, but she has thorns.
Celestia’s biggest lie in game is during the third chapter, during her own plot to commit murder. She tricks Yamada into becoming an accomplice with her, tells him to kill Ishida and that she will kill someone while the others are distracted. Sadly for Yamada, Celestia kills him without mercy, leaving two dead because of her plot. For this case she pretends to be injured due to ‘Justice Robo’, a costumed designed to frame Hagakure for the crimes. She tricks the others to follow a wild goose chase around the school, making sure both Yamada’s and Ishimaru’s bodies are both found at the same time so Monobear’s message is said when three people find Yamada faking his death. She’s manipulative to a fault, and used Yamada and Ishimaru’s connection to ‘Alter Ego’, a program designed by Chihiro, to her advantage. She stole the laptop for this (the laptop that everyone put their hopes into), lied and said Ishimaru forced her through violence and blackmail, and set Yamada on him. The supplementary manga (chapter 5) shows her feelings on this in more detail, where her three ‘pawns’ are represented as puppets she bends to her own will.
Overall, it is an elaborate plot, spun by an incredible liar.
And the motive for this chapter? `Desire` Money. Something that Celestia is rather fond of.
Likewise, her lies can sometimes be used for simple (albeit dark) comedy. During the last ‘free time’ skit with her, she tells Naegi that she has an announcement to make: “I’m carrying your baby. Oops, sorry, I got that wrong.” Not only this but she also tells Naegi that she ‘ranks’ certain people around her to be at different friendship levels. In this skit she tells Naegi he has made ‘rank C’ but the most important part of it is when she describes what happens if someone becomes ‘rank F’: “...I use my connections and hire someone to assassinate them. I can't allow such people to even exist.” When it comes to friendships and enemies, Celestia’s lies become much more guarded. It becomes much more difficult to understand when she is lying or telling the truth, and it’s no wonder Naegi ends up so confused at her summaries of her ‘rankings’. She insists he considers being one of her ‘knights’ and tells him that he may even reach ‘rank A’ one day, but on the other hand, there is a certain air to the way she tells him this that makes the situation one to be wary of.
One thing Celestia prides herself on is elegance. Her so called ‘dream’ (whether this is actually true, or false, is up for speculation) is to save enough money so she can afford to buy a castle and have butlers/servants dressed as vampires. In fact, when her execution is first revealed to be burned at the stake, she actually looked content. It’s something out of a renaissance, something with style and class to it - especially to a girl who enjoys dressing in lolita clothing, wearing clip on curly pigtails and a hinged ring that covers 2/3’s of her index finger. (Of course, that is not her final punishment, much to her horror when a fire truck comes crashing into her...)
This elegance, however, also leads her to being a bit like a spoiled child. She has worked hard to gain the savings she has, even if it is through something such as gambling, so she can expect people to wait on her. This is shown with Yamada when she tells him to make her Royal Milk Tea. It’s a tea brewed in a certain way with the milk added ahead of time and to her the scent is much more appealing than tea ‘seasoned’ with milk. When Yamada makes the tea not to her taste, she throws the cup (after a soft ‘...oh my’) and politely gives a reasoning as to why the tea isn’t to her standards. After Yamada keeps resisting, her usual calm demeanor fades - she yells ‘Just hurry the fuck up and get me my tea, pig boy!!!’ at him. This aggressive, insulting demeanor tends to show itself whenever she doesn’t get her own way.
Celestia can also be seen as ‘Miss Captain Obvious’ sometimes as well. In the first chapter after they investigate the school, she smiles and points out that there is one thing that has made their search prove fruitful, and that ‘The fact we are locked in a closed environment with nowhere to escape to is the confirmed, unavoidable truth.’ However she feels on the inside is calmly covered with a smile, and she even allows a small ‘hee hee’ at everyone’s reactions to this alarming development. It is also her who proposes the ‘Night Time Rule’ where they do not go outside their rooms at night, just to ensure safety. It’s a rule to squash paranoia, though as it is only a rule between them, there is no way to enforce it. Rather, it is a logical suggestion, something that fits a character such as Celestia.
There is one thing, however, that Celestia hates and refuses to come into being: losing. In chapter two in the library after they find Byakuya Togami reading there, and find how he considers this Mutual Game of Killing an actual game, she states: “I’m just the same as you. A game is something to be won. I feel the same.” This is true to her personality and perhaps reveals more about her actual position on their current situation. It’s why she doesn’t mind taking the chance - the gamble - by taking someone’s life to step ahead. During the game we hear her story (and whether it is just a story or not, is another thing) where she was involved in a gaming tournament called “The King of Liars”. She had tea spilt on her dress during the break, and was absolutely ruthless against the other two left in the competition. She won in a rush just so she could get her dress cleaned. She destroyed two people’s bank accounts in one swift strike, just so she could get to a launderette faster. She’s merciless and ruthless when she wants to be, she just needs the motivation and reasoning for it.
Character Name: Obito Uchiha Canon: Naruto Canon Point: chapter 244 Background/History:wikia.
Personality: Obito definitely shows traits one should show as a ninja. He's brash, headstrong, and his confidence sometimes blurs into cockiness. The biggest problem he has though, has to be his mouth. He, unfortunately, has a foot in mouth syndrome. Meaning: he doesn't really think before he speaks, and because of that he tends to mouth off to others. This, unfortunately, usually gets him into trouble with his classmates and teammates. He tries his hardest to prove how great of a ninja he can be, and, despite his best efforts, he's usually shot down very quickly in battle. He isn't really the type to stay knocked down though. He'll pick himself up, dust himself off, and then dive straight back into training. His will is like a flame that will never burn out. His determination knows no bounds; once he sets his mind on something he'll commit to it 100 percent.
There is no doubt that this kid wears his heart on his sleeve. When he's happy he has a huge grin plastered on his face, when he's upset he sheds a few tears and then denies it later on by saying he had something in his eye. And, sometimes he freezes up in battles when his opponents get the better of him. Because of this he is oftentimes mocked by his teammate Kakashi for being a coward and a crybaby. One of the rules a ninja must follow is that they must kill their emotions. Which makes sense all things considered, but seeing as he's only a teenager there will be some things he obviously can't shoulder on his own. The only thing he doesn't like openly admitting is when he gets hurt. He likes playing it off as if it were just a scratch, when, in fact he's bleeding profusely from his hand.
Since his fighting skills are, ah, less than superb, he's considered a failure to the Uchiha clan. A black sheep. Most of his relatives were able to activate their sharingan before the age of thirteen. But, instead of moping around pessimistically he keeps an optimistic view on life and will let things set their corse.
He's definitely the guy who will put others needs before his own. He isn't the type to stand by idly and watch someone struggle with something without offering them any sort of help. If someone were in a bind he'd be there with a smile on his face, no questions asked. Oftentimes he's shown helping the elderly carry their groceries across the street, or, helping them with mundane tasks. In fact, his motto in life is to "help the elderly." While this usually makes him late for scheduled meetings and missions, he's willing to take the risk of running late to help someone out in need. He's very selfless and values teamwork above anything else. Not only did he give his life for his friends, he also gives Kakashi (who lost the sight in one of his eyes during a battle) his left eye so the other could see once again and that they'll see a new future together.
If there is one thing Obito fully believes in, it's teamwork. Another rule ninjas must fully abide by is that the mission takes priority over everything, even if it means death of your fellow ninja. And, if anyone breaks this rule they are considered trash. Obito would rather break that rule and be called "trash" if it meant saving a friend or a teammate from certain death. To him: "[anyone] who breaks the rules and regulations are called trash, but those who don't care about their companions are worse than trash." He's very adamant about this view all the way up to his "death".
His relationship with Kakashi is....very strained. Mostly because everything they do usually comes the easiest to Kakashi. He did remarkably well during their Academy days, he can take down his opponents without working up much of a sweat, and, he is the first out of their class to become a Jonin (which is a rank in the ninja world. Jonin's are to be considered as elite ninjas.) He's... basically everything Obito wants to be as a ninja and more. He does his best to impress Rin (his other teammate, whom he has a crush on) but always falls short when it comes to Kakashi. Because of this, he strives to be better than Kakashi. In fact before they depart on their last mission as a team together, he claims that he will surpass Kakashi. He will be the one to woo Rin off of her feet. His relationship with Rin, on the other hand is completely opposite. He adores her, and would do just about anything to make sure that she was alright.
Abilities/Powers: Well, seeing as he's a ninja he's bound to have a few tricks up his sleeve! Like being able to use his chakra (which is a basic technique that molds physical and spiritual energy inside the body). This allows him to do simple things such as walk on top of water or up a tree/various different surfaces. He can also use his chakra to do various techniques known as jutsu:
basic jutsu
火 henge no jutsu • transformation technique: this technique allows the user to change one's appearance into whatever or whomever they want to be. whether it be a person, animal, or an object. the downside to using this technique is that it takes a lot of concentration and can eat away at someone's chakra reserves, which makes it difficult to maintain for extended periods of time.
火 bunshin no jutsu • clone techquine: this technique allows the user to make a clone of one's self. most clones aren't made up of anything and basically dissipates when it comes into contact with anyone or anything. this technique is good for distraction.
火 kawarimi no jutsu • body replacement technique: this technique allows the user to replace one's body with a different object before an attack lands.
fire release jutsu
火 katon: goukakyuu no jutsu • fire release: great fireball technique: this technique kneads the chakra inside of the user's body and then converts it into fire, which is then expelled from the user's mouth as either a giant ball of flames or a continuous flamethrower.
火 katon: housenka no jutsu • fire release: phoenix sage fire technique: this technique is very similar to the goukakyuu jutsu, but, instead of making one giant ball of flames it makes smaller fireballs.
kekkei genkai (bloodline jutsu)
火 sharingan: the sharingan is a genetic eye technique that's usually activated during a stressful situation in battle. Over the course of its development, the Sharingan will grant the user three unique abilities. The first and most well known ability is that it can help the user memorize and replicate any movement it has seen. Which basically allows the user to copy most of their opponent's jutsu by memorizing the handsigns/muscle movements. They can then use the jutsu against them and on later opponents whenever their Sharingan is active. The second ability grants the user increased clarity of perception, which allows them to track and predict the movements and actions of fast-moving objects. Meaning, they can see what their opponent is going to do before they do it. The third and final ability is a brand of scenarios that suggests actions and thoughts to the opponent, acting as an effective way to produce genjutsu abilities or implant memories in another person. The only limitation they have is that they can not copy any other bloodline limits or special summons.
Items/Weapons: 15 or so shuriken throwing stars, two kunai knives, and one bottle of eye drops.
Sample Entry: [red eyes stare down curiously at the blinking device. a few minutes pass by before obito can safely assume that whatever this thing is, isn't going to blow up in his face.] Uhh-- what is this? And where am I? The last thing I remember was that that cave we were in was about to collapse, and Kakashi was gonna get squashed like a bug if I didn't--
[it finally dawns on him as to where he could be. and with that he pales a little as he looks around.] This isn't.... This isn't that place where spirits are stuck in between, or whatever it's called, is it? [he looks down and frowns.] I thought I'd at least get into heaven! I help the elderly all the time! That has to have some merit, right? I might have done a lot of bad things and broken some of the rules, but, I'm sure that couldn't have been the reason for me being here of all places! [another pause.] And another thing, what's up with all the beds in this room?
Sample Entry Two:That Bakakashi better keep Rin safe...
Obito murmured quietly to himself as he rolled over in the... what? Why was he all wet feeling? That really wouldn't make sense! The last thing he remembered was that he was squashed under a giant boulder and-- well... It could have been blood. But he was absolutely positive he would have remembered feeling the sticky substance! Well.... he probably did, but he couldn't really feel the right side of his body, so that could explain some things. And-- hey wait a second! Wouldn't his blood be warmer than this? This-- whatever he was in, was really cool.
Hesitantly, he opened his eyes and splashed about the tiny pond as soon as he realized what he was in. He gave a loud sigh as he pushed himself up into a sitting position as he surveyed his surroundings. From what it looked like, he seemed to be under some kind of bridge in a rural part of town? He was at least thankful that there wasn't any water under this particular bridge. But, unfortunately nothing he saw rang any kind of bells in his head. He had a small, hunching feeling that the Rock country didn't have nice ponds like this. Heaving another sigh he ran a hand down his face.
"Wait a second.... if-- If I were still alive I wouldn't be able to see. And--" he gulped miserably as he looked down at his perfectly normal, unhurt body. "I doubt anyone's that skilled in medical jutsu to make my left side all normal again."
He pinched his arm and winced afterwards as pain shot up and down his arm. So, okay, he might be dead. But if he really was then, was this... was this really heaven? He felt himself frown as he looked around. It didn't really look overly white, and he was absolutely positive that if he were in heaven he would have... he would have at least been greeted by an angel.
He quickly got to his feet and jumped up and down a couple of times. Nope. This can't be it. He definitely would have wings, or something! He couldn't help but laugh awkwardly at his predicament as he rubbed the back of his neck.
"Well, at least I'm not under that rock anymore."
Though, to be honest he would have actually preferred being under that rock. Things would have made more sense if he were still under there. But... he wasn't and despite how much he wanted to cry about his predicament he would hold off for now. He needed to make sure that both Kakashi and Rin weren't here. And with that he got to his feet and quickly left the underpass of the bridge.
Name: nami Contact Info: email harmonicskies@gmail.com plurk: harmonicskies aim: freirinite Other Characters Played: N/A Preferred Apartment: Is it alright if Azaka shares an apartment with Shiki Ryougi? I've got permission from the mun. Character Name: Azaka Kokutou Canon: Kara no Kyoukai Canon Point: Post Oblivion Recorder Background/History:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kara_no_Kyoukai
Personality:Azaka is very bright and optimistic. For the most part it's normal to see Azaka smiling. Normally she thinks positively and she tries to be very proper. One of the things she strives towards is becoming an ideal lady. She only does all of this because she's deeply in love with her own brother Mikiya. She absolutely loves Mikiya to the point where she can't believe it herself. Azaka looks up to Mikiya for a role model and she greatly respects him. She's not bothered by the fact that she loves her brother. Becoming a proper and refined lady is something Azaka does because she hopes that one day Mikiya will see her as a woman instead of his sister.
The saying "don't judge a book by its cover" heavily applies to Azaka. On the outside she looks very refined and high class. She attends an all girls boarding school called Reien. Normally Azaka's an ideal student and doesn't break rules. She basically yells at Shiki every time she thinks she's about to break a school rule. Trying to get other people to follow the rules is also something she does. When it comes to mannerisms she tries to be polite and modest. However, when she's with Shiki or Mikiya her core personality shows off more. When Azaka's around them you can often find her throwing stuff at people which is pretty much the exact opposite of lady like.
Despite her ongoing optimism Azaka's prone to acting emotionally and having temper tantrums. Sometimes she easily gets irritated by the smallest things. A person who irritates Azaka the most is Shiki Ryougi. The moment Azaka found out she had to team up with Shiki she basically screamed so loudly it echoed throughout the building. One time a fairy took away Azaka's memory of when she first fell in love with her brother. Azaka was so furious that she went in the chairman's room and boldly proclaimed that she'd never forgive the magus for stealing her memory.
As an apprentice she's very responsible. She listens to Touko's advice and does all her research thoroughly. Azaka only managed to get past Kurogiri because she'd taken Touko's advice and used a music player to block God's Word. She knows how to prioritize her duties and to team up with people when it's required. Despite her jealousy towards Shiki she still teamed up with her for the investigation. When she is asked to do something, she is capable of being serious. Overall, Azaka's a very responsible and hardworking magus.
Some of the things she likes are somewhat questionable. During one of her conversations with Shiki, Azaka admits that she likes things that are taboo. The reason for this is because her origin is Taboo. Basically, that means that Azaka has a tendency to stay away from normal things. An example of this is her becoming a magus.
Around the school Azaka can be very helpful. She offered to look after her roommate’s dog over the New Year’s break. The dog actually gave her a bit of trouble because he kept walking on grounds where pets weren’t allowed. Even though Azaka had a hard time dealing with a dog she still managed to keep her promise and looked after it anyways. She also sometimes helps out her friend Fujino Asagami.
At times she can get competitive. Her competitive behavior is the only reason she's an apprentice magus in the first place. She didn't want Shiki to be better than her so she became a magus just to match her physically and mentally. That's just the extent of lengths at which she goes to so she can achieve her own goals. Once she sets her mind on something there's no stopping her. She is prone to getting loud and noisy because of her competitive behavior.
An ice cold queen that’s quick to anger and hard to handle. Severa’s a difficult person to deal with and it’s something she doesn’t really want to change. Oh, she didn't mean to turn out that way, but things don’t always go how we want them too, and the hardships she has dealt with have hardened her exterior to the point where it’s both a shield and a cage. Aside from the war against Grima, Severa has to fight another, more personal war against society and against herself. Being born from an exemplary woman and warrior means she’s lived in her mother’s shadow entire life. It’s hard enough living up to your own expectations, much more so the expectations of others.
The expectations placed on her weren’t too far from the truth, and she quickly learned that she could never become Cordelia. Not being allowed to show weakness nor frustration, only living by what she should do to be closer to what her mother is and pushing back her true self, Severa wasn’t even capable of taking it out on the source of her troubles. Her mother was diligent, responsible, kind, and many other positive adjectives. Even when Severa behaved rudely, Cordelia could take it in stride, never letting her child feel unloved or a disappointment, which only led to more frustration. Despite everything, she was still her mother, and she loved her. This continued on until, one day, Cordelia fell in battle.
The person she admires the most would never show her back to her.
The person she loves the most will never give her warmth again.
Not even allowed to grieve for her mother, Cordelia’s death only brought upon more pressure. How will Severa fill in her gap? Whispers and side glances at a girl who could not be relied on like her mother could. A girl who didn’t cry, who was difficult to handle, who couldn’t fight like her mother did, who couldn’t do anything right. It’s implied that she was isolated, classed as a failure. She couldn’t do a job nearly as good as her mother’s, so she was cast off. They didn’t consider that she might be hurting, that she has emotions and regrets and insecurities.
Oh, and she has a lot of those.
Behind the hard, cold front there’s a girl that wants to be approved of. She wants her parents to be proud of her, to be relied on, to be found useful. She’s never been able to measure up to her mother according to those who knew her, which has led her to think she’s worthless. Either not as pretty or smart, or never doing chores like Cordelia did either. Doesn’t that mean that she’s a disappointment? Despite all of her hard work, she will never reach the heights her mother did. She should just die.
This is why her large array of weapons are more than just swords and axes. Sharp glares and biting words have become an exoskeleton thicker than any armor she owns. They’re the daggers under her sleeves, the quick way to stab people right where it hurts. Unlike most girls who do this though, Severa knows it. She knows what she’s doing, she knows when she’s pushing people away, even go so far as to warn others about it. As Severa grew up, she found a way to hide all the hurt and hate, and adapted this sort of personality. She won’t be manipulated by the masses and she won’t become her mother, so you either accept her as she is or you do not deserve to see her at her best; this is the sort of idea she wants to give. To make others believe she’s fine, that she’s strong and can take care of herself. What started as a defense mechanism has turned into a reflex towards anything that attempts to speak to her. A cage, a bind, a line between her and everyone else, that which isolates her from others more than anything.
It’s sad, though, because Severa can be really sweet. She’s usually compassionate to the weak and the bullied; if they don’t deserve it, that is. There’s a difference between being difficult and just being an asshole, so she treats those sort of people well. Taking care of Noire, going so far as to take her to the bathroom in the middle of the night and cleaning up after her messes, it’s clear that she cares a lot for her. When asked on why she’s so kind to her, she replies that being mean to her would be “like kicking a puppy... when it’s asleep." Her support with Kjelle is Severa teaching her how to be a proper female, which might seem like a silly thing to worry over, especially in times of war, but Severa isn't one to waste time with people she didn't care about.
Abilities/Powers:
Despite her insecurities, she is actually a very good fighter, being one of the few females who's original class is mercenary. The Mercenary class are fighters who deal heavy damage while being able to take a few hits themselves, and are good with swords. This is all because of her training though, Severa doesn't have any supernatural powers.
Kyouko has a history of fluctuating beliefs and ideals. As with most younger kids, her idea of justice and righteousness was shallow and one-note. Her values were also dictated by circumstance; with few friends at any early age, she loved and relied on her family more than an average girl would. This applies in particular to her father, a priest, who was the patriarch and provided for the family. He was a very honest and sefless man, and these sympathies drove him to preach a message that differed from traditional doctrine. Young Kyouko, however, believed wholeheartedly in her father’s message, and she couldn’t understand why the people rejected it. The injustice of it hurt her terrifically.
Kyouko’s family became very poor when her father was excommunicated from the church, and during that time of poverty, she learned the true value of keeping food on the table. It was a value she never let go of. To keep her family from starving, and to reverse the seemingly terrible injustice of her father’s word being ignored, Kyouko became a Puella Magi and made a wish that she thought would set everything right. For a little while, it seemed to work and Kyouko was happy. She was happy to be a hero, even behind the scenes, and to serve justice by saving people from witches. When tragedy struck, though, Kyouko became a very different person. Her father murdered her mother and sister, and killed himself when he found out the truth behind Kyouko’s wish.
It seems natural that this would turn any person’s world upside down. In response, Kyouko became selfish and jaded. With how things turned out, it seemed idiotic to use her powers to help anyone but herself. When the series begins and Kyouko first appears, she has completely bought in to her new ideals. She steals, and is seen habitually eating. She stops Sayaka from destroying a familiar, claiming that it’s stupid because there is no reward for doing so—she would rather have it kill a few people and become a witch. She also fights Sayaka, a fellow Puella Magi, over ideals and territory, almost killing her. She later stalks Sayaka and sadistically threatens to grievously injure the boy that Sayaka has strong romantic feelings for.
Despite this behavior, the strange thing is that Kyouko likes Sayaka. It boils down to the feelings and true nature of herself that Kyouko is repressing. Throughout the series, she goes through a fierce internal battle. After the death of her family, she is forced into maintaining a survival mode that requires ruthless self-sufficiency—there are things she thinks she has to do, and ways she thinks she ought to act; she cannot show weakness, she cannot show kindness, and she cannot rely on anyone but herself. This side of her battles with her older values—the ones she deemed worthless and naïve after the tragedy. And while her jaded side seems to dominate in her initial encounters with Sayaka, the fact that she still likes Sayaka manages to manifest in how much attention she pays her.
In reality, Kyouko is lonely and frustrated with her own lifestyle. Sayaka reminds her of herself when she was younger, and that is able to trigger some compassion in her, as well as a rising of old feelings and values. It first manifests in a conversation she has with Sayaka; she tells Sayaka the story of her past, and tries to use it to convince her to abandon her selfless ways before she is hurt by them. Sayaka rejects the suggestion flat out, and while this angers Kyouko, it also pushes her to reach out even more. There isn’t enough opportunity, though. By the time Kyouko is willing to more fully commit, Sayaka loses herself to despair and turns into a witch.
In brief summery, Kyouko has a multi-layered self. At her core, she is a girl who wants to find happiness. She has a fierce and jaded exterior, and she is willing to push her selfish agenda a long way. That said, she is still starved for company and friendship, and there’s a girl who understands the benefit of kindness and the pursuit of good buried under several layers of forced denial and hardened survival instinct.
Kyouko is a Puella Magi, and as such, she has a number of magically enhanced ablities: increased strength, stamina, agility and speed; healing powers; the ability to create magical barriers—these are the most prominent ones that Kyouko utilizes. The weapon she uses, which appears as she transforms and changes into her magical girl getup, is a spear. It can shrink and grow in length, and it can be broken into sections connected by chains which Kyouko can use to restrict enemies or increase the flexibility of her attacks.
While not “abilities,” per se, the costs to becoming a Puella Magi further separate Kyouko from existence as a normal human being. Upon making the contract, Kyouko’s soul was transferred into her Soul Gem, thus removing it from her body; as such, if Kyouko’s Soul Gem is destroyed, then she immediately dies. Additionally, as a Puella Magi uses her magic, her Soul Gem becomes tainted. If at any point it becomes too tainted, or if the Puella Magi succumbs to complete despair, the Soul Gem breaks and turns into a Grief Seed. A witch is then born. When a witch is destroyed, it drops a Grief Seed, which can be used to absorb the taint from a Soul Gem, thus maintaining a kind of endless cycle.
Items/Weapons: Just her Soul Gem. Its function is briefly explained in the above section.
Kyouko did not lack confidence, and she didn't lack power, but she owed more to her experience than she would be willing to readily admit. She also had the benefit of being more properly trained, and it was done in a much better, more supportive environment. That, along with everything else, made Sayaka's overall disadvantage as clear as day. Not that Kyouko was considering such things. Despite not having a clear vision for what she was really trying to do, beating Sayaka straight out was not on the agenda.
Even more of a mystery was her motivation -- the same thing she'd been grappling with earlier. Was it simple pity? Was it a raging, fruitless reaction to manifested despair that she was likewise fated to bear? Someday, perhaps not even long from now, would Kyouko no longer be able to reject the truth that Sayaka had arrived at? It was possible. For how long could she continue this lifestyle: to exist alone, to steal, to fight invisible battles, to hate the world…
Well, if she let Sayaka kill her here, none of those questions mattered in the slightest. That wasn't going to happen, though. After all, Kyouko sure did hate to lose.
Sayaka's first move was fairly slick, and it might have caught Kyouko off guard if she hadn't been completely focused. As soon as she sensed Sayaka's surging power, the light in Kyouko's own ring shone. She lowered her right hand and her spear appeared there in time to block Sayaka's blade. Kyouko held her weapon steady, still allowing Sayaka to maintain the grip on her off hand.
“Hey, that wasn’t bad,” Kyouko said. “Guess you've picked up some moves since last time, huh?”
Personality: In Chrom's army, everyone's a little bit unique. Maybe one's got difficulties falling asleep. Maybe one's the best at peeling potatoes. And maybe one is not only the fastest to run away when dangerous situations arise, but this one can go from being timid and soft-spoken to screaming, laughing maniacally and becoming absolutely abrasive when stress comes a-callin'.
Meet Noire. Due to her mother's tendency to test all of her curses on her ever since she was a wee young thing, she's grown into quite the downcast pessimist with a weak constitution, easily startled and frightened of bugs, hexes, and speaking her mind. She's not much for dynamic actions and charging into battle is something she prefers to leave her more energetic allies, but then there are times when she... changes. Originally due to a talisman meant to help her deal with her fear and dislike of violence and crippling lack of self-confidence, Noire possesses an alter-ego, one who has no problems stating her ire or threatening violence or just plain insulting people. Talisman aside, this side of her usually surfaces when Noire's stress levels reach the breaking point; in a support with the female Morgan, she explains that it tends to happen when lots of little things build up, culminating in her ranting and raving over something as trivial as being tired of walking. As terrifying as this part of her can be, it usually aids Noire in helping her get out what she has to say, and it's why she's able to fight in her paralogue-- she's scared to take up the bow until she uses her talisman, and then she's ready to take on any enemy. The talisman is later taken away by Tharja, but as stated before, Noire no longer needs it.
As you can probably guess, a lot of her personality and her views come from her parents and her loss of them. Having been subjected to her mother's experimental hexes day after day, Noire's constantly paranoid about anything the slightest bit unnatural-- including finding random objects or feeling stronger after a battle. Understandably, she dreads Tharja's hexes, but she also seeks to learn them, presumably as a way to establish another tie between her and her mother and to earn her approval. No matter what suffering she went through at her mother's hands, she loves her deeply and doesn't blame her in the slightest for being too busy avenging her husband's death to pay much attention to her daughter's learning. She died protecting her, after all, and Noire even comes to understand that the reason she never learned hexes was that her mother loved her and didn't want her involved in the risks that it took to perform such dark magic. With her father, you get to see Noire's stance regarding her situation: ultimately, she's not convinced that coming to the past will actually change the future, especially when history repeats itself. But when he confiscates his wife's cursing tools in order to prevent her from using them on Noire, something he'd never done in the future, that action is enough to give Noire a spark of hope. A thought that maybe the future can change for the better.
Given the fact that Noire is afraid of most everything and is prone to flying into rages at random moments, you'd think she would be considered a handful among her allies. ... And you would be right. In her supports with Severa, Noire messes up more often than not, getting herself sick, needing to be accompanied to the bathroom, etc. She terrifies Inigo by shooting arrows perilously close to him, in order to dissuade any questionable ladies from getting close. Still, she truly means well, and Noire at heart is actually a very sweet girl who takes active steps to improve herself and to help others. In one support, she asks an ally to help her overcome her fear of bugs, rather than moping over how pathetic a weakness it is. She hides Yarne without asking why when he comes running to her for help. She looks after the female avatar after she collapses from exhaustion, begging her not to take on all their burdens and offering a listening ear when she needs it. She's also got a bad habit of pushing herself, despite her frail nature and anemia; this means there's an increased chance of her falling backwards because she's carrying something too heavy, or collapsing because she overdoes it, but no one can say that Noire doesn't try her utmost to be useful to everyone else. She may dislike fighting, and she might still be scared, but when it comes to doing her part, she'll join her comrades on the battlefield (shaking all the way).
Also she's surprisingly good at baking. Yes, this is a notable talent.
Overall, Noire might be self-deprecating, but she's willing to better herself. She might be scared of everything her mother's hexes, but she still wants to be useful. She's eccentric, but she's strong, in her own way, and she's just as committed to fighting for what's important as her friends are. She... just has to be able to train effectively without collapsing first.
Abilities/Powers: Like the other orphaned kids from a grim future fighting undead soldiers for the sake of survival, Noire's no stranger to warfare and has fought more than her fair share of battles. She demonstrates a prowess with the bow especially, even when she's initially weaponless in her paralogue. According to her mother, a very powerful dark mage, Noire has incredible magical potential but has never actually succeeded in hexing anyone. In combat situations, she can wield dark magic perfectly fine, and she's actually self-taught in that respect, teaching herself magic from observing her mother. Her go-to weapon remains the bow, though, and as such, her game skills are related to her Archer class-- as seen below, translated ICly.
Prescience: When Noire's the first to engage someone in a fight, her hit and avoidance rates are a lot better. Bowfaire: Basically, Noire hits harder when she's using a bow. Accuracy +20: She hardly ever misses a target. Rally Skill: ICly speaking, think of it as a brief spell used on allies to give them a chance of landing a more critical hit. Skill +2: MORE CRITICALS.
Items/Weapons: - Her mother's ring - A Killer Bow - Clothes
Mother would have been delighted, Noire had decided, not long after she'd begun her (very very cautious, tiny-stepped) exploration of her surroundings. This place, so desolate and discarded, accompanied by the prickling sensation of having someone's eyes fixated on you-- it was a dark mage's dream come true. Which of course meant that it did very little to grant Noire a sense of security. So far, the only consolation seemed to be that she hadn't stumbled across a single bug yet. Which was a relief! She had no wish to use up too much energy screaming and running in terror, not when she had to focus on survival and information-gathering. It had been awhile since she'd been truly alone, though... the depressing nature of that thought was starting to get to her, which only made her feel worse. Because maybe she'd been spoiled, being able to find a second home with younger parents, with her friends, because anything had been better than the world where very little remained. Was this a punishment, perhaps? Or a curse, something even stronger than her mother's? Something like this... couldn't be anything but a very dark curse.
Was anyone else even here? She'd tried calling out, timidly, but no one had responded and she hadn't wanted to start screaming without knowing what else would emerge if she did. The odd, battered device she'd discovered could prove useful... but what if she broke it? It would be just her luck, damaging something that was probably important, and if this was her only possible connection to seeing everyone again, she had to handle it with extreme care.
She flinched suddenly, distracted from her own gloomy thoughts by-- a shadow? Had something just moved? Was someone following her? Was she about to be attacked? This wasn't fair! She had enough on her hands fighting a war in her own world, in not even her own time, and now this had to happen when Naga only knew where her friends were and--
"BLOOD AND THUNDER!" For once, the rage boiling through her at the unfairness of it all was welcome. At least now if something did attack, she could shoot it down with no hesitation whatsoever. "INSOLENT CREATURES WHO SEEK MY DESTRUCTION, I'LL STRIKE WITH THE SWIFTNESS AND FEROCITY OF THE BLACKEST CURSE UNTIL THERE'S NOTHING LEFT OF YOU TO REGRET!!"
Previous Game History: Teru Mikami arrived at the Manor on the 27th of December in an unspecified year and remained resident there for two years and 3 months, without going home even once.
Badfic Manor is a jamjar game set in a single mansion that is, in fact, the setting of a fanfiction. The realm is controlled by the 'Author', who the characters assume to be a teenage fangirl of somehow undefined power. Characters now have to deal with whatever this Author comes up with. Events vary greatly. Fanfiction stereotypes as genderbending and cat ears or AUs get explored, but there is also a variety of horror and survival events.
Upon arrival in a room completely foreign to him, Teru was immediately greeted by two very different people from his own world, who he had yet to meet in his canon timeline. The first being Mihael "Mello" Keehl who promptly used his knowledge about Mikami to try and pretend to be Kira and thereby get his devotion. Since he failed to provide proof, his scheme failed and Mikami has never forgiven him for the attempt, from then on refusing any contact to him no matter how often he left the Manor and returned. The second person who greeted him was far more relevant for all of his stay at the Manor. It was Light Yagami, the true Kira. He came to Mikami as a member of the Welcome Committee to inform him about the environment he was now in. Their conversation was long and helpful. Mikami now knew he was in a single House controlled by a teenage generally referred to as 'the Author' at whim. The only was to contact her was talking to a speaking bunny, going by the term 'Plot Bunny' and it was generally assumed that the entire house and its happenings were part of a big story. Teru also learned about the concept of different worlds and timeline conflicts. Finally, the conversation went to morals and when Teru talks about morals and justice he talks about Kira - highly interesting for Light who in fact was Kira after all. This talk and Mikami's understanding of Kira's ideals were the starting point for their later relation that would affect Mikami quite a bit.
In the following time, Teru tried to get used to the Manor while at the same time actively involved himself in the community that was going very strong at that time. He informed himself about the place, let himself be registered in a list of supporting people and began welcoming people as well. In an event soon after, where he found himself with element bending powers like those in Avatar: The Last Airbender universe, Mikami first found himself confronted with changes made to his body. That was more difficult for him to accept than the new world in general and back then as well as for a lot of similar following events he chose to try and ignore everything about him that had been altered. Relevant to mention for this time is also that Teru encountered more people from his world who freshly arrived there - FBI agent Naomi Misora with whom he'd have a business alliance and Light's girlfriend Misa Amane with whom he'd develop some sort of vague but friendly relation. Around this time, Mikami began to suspect Light to be Kira and eventually confronted him on it, after being provoked to it by Light. Ever since learning that Light is his God, Mikami has deeply worshipped him and listened to his every command, though naturally they have kept this God-Believer relation a secret from everyone else.
Another few weeks later, certain events caused Mikami to become fully integrated in the system of detectives and police (a great number of those were present at that time). A serial killing, cased by Beyond "B" Birthday kept them on guard for two weeks. While they carefully investigated each murder, the killer was only caught after over 5 victims.
In the following time, Teru got to know that Misa is the 2nd Kira and therefore appreciated her some more - an awkward friendship-esque thing. Sometime then, he also took care of the Death Note for Light. No killings with it were done, he merely kept the book hidden. Further, he also got to meet Sayu, Light's little sister.
His first of many wildlife survival experiences was being transported to Jurassic Park. Teru never dealt well with being stuck out in the dirt, but he would get used to it over time. In further survival field trips, he would always try to organize the group and keep everyone together. Teru had a tendency to see it as his responsibility to keep everyone safe.
A while later, L arrived at the scene as well. Due to his similarity to the killer B, Mikami was able to recognize the great detective and can now say he's one of the few people who know what L looks like.
In the next months (and basically always), Mikami lived through tons of both crack and survival events, slowly getting used to the Manor. He was still trying to find ways to get out, however, and started keeping lots of detailed notes about the place.
As the Author can sometimes be generous, there was an option for characters to ask for extensions to the Manor. Mikami asked for a courthouse and received one. The tiny court would from then on be where he spent most of his days, despite no trials ever taking place.
In one of the events, he met a boy who would not change his life but at least get rather close to it. The theme of that week was children. While Mikami had to take care of a child 'of his own' and read it a story, he found himself approached by a young Mukuro Rokudo from Katekyo Hitman Reborn. Mukuro told him how he wanted to make all the 'bad people go away' when he grew up, a thought which Mikami of course could relate to extremely well. Mukuro, as a child, sounded just like his own thoughts just like Kira's ideals. It filled Mikami with anger to know this child grew up in a laboratory as a human weapon.
Ironically, soon after this encounter Light left the Manor, leaving Mikami devastated. In that time of grief, he encountered Mukuro's older self. They had friendly contact as first, until in an event, Teru saw Mukuro kill someone - a scientist belonging to the lab that once held him hostage. The beginning of countless unsatisfying moral discussions, for Mukuro and Mikami technically agreed about the death of certain people, but then came to completely different conclusions from then on. While for Mukuro it seemed suitable to kill with his own hands, Mikami would never accept such direct and personally motivated action. To him there is a major difference between a murder, such as Mukuro is doing, and judgement, such as Kira passes onto people. He feels that Kira is justified in his killings for he does them in a clean, supernatural, even godly way and is, as far as Mikami knows, only driven by the desire to make the world a better place. Mukuro however, while he wanted to erase crime as well, did so partly because he personally wanted revenge. To Teru this made a big difference.
A little bit after Light disappeared, Misa chose to commit suicide, coincidentally before Mikami's eyes. Unlike usually, she did not wake up from the dead again and remained gone, which left Mikami with a lingering feeling of both guilt and disapproval. Guilt because he was unable to save her and disapproval of her action as Mikami felt it was their duty to remain strong for Light after he was gone - not to flee the scene as well.
Within the next months, Light returned to the Manor again, which gave Mikami back a lot of hope. Misa returned as well. This 'happy reunion' did not stop Mukuro development from continuing however. In another de-aging event, Teru of age 15, a middle school bullying victim coming straight from the funeral of his mother, found himself faced with a very young Mukuro. Teru comforted and supported this child, who was lacking an eyeball. They were a good match. Mikami the protector who needed someone to rely on him and Mukuro who needed to experience protection. This memory heavily influenced their later interactions. Technically they both recognized this memory of having felt connected as fake, but emotionally it was implanted into their memory completely. Age switch events in the Manor work kind of complicatedly. Afterwards it feels to the characters as though the events have actually happened in their earlier timeline, but at the same time they can remember having lived a life where these memories were never present. With a bit of deduction it is easy for the characters to make out the memories have been added to their lives later on, despite them feeling as real as any event from juniour high or whenever would feel to them. Unable to fully reject the fake memory, Teru and Mukuro felt more conflicted and frustrated about each other than ever.
Shortly after Mikami's one year anniversary at the Manor, Mukuro left. Mikami wanted to feel good to have him out of the way, but he never quite could. Mukuro returned a few months later however and the two continued their uncertain contact. Eventually they stopped thinking about it too much and it could be said they were in a vague alliance. Mikami would never trust Mukuro, but he acknowledged their relation. A while after, Mukuro left again and Mikami has buried the memories ever since.
In this following time, Mikami finally began feeling hopeless about the Manor. It had taken time. Teru had been stubborn and always trying to fight in his own way, but finally he now felt he was a plaything to the Author and lost enthusiasm about finding a way out of this hell. In this dark period, he rarely talked to anybody, as most of this significant contacts were already gone either way. Remaining was solely Saguru Hakuba, a detective who he knew from the serial killing back then. They became somewhat reluctant friends over the years. It took Mikami about half a year to get over this feeling of trapped helplessness. Only slowly he began picking active thinking on his well-kept notes back up and interacted with other people again.
At his two year anniversary, the population of the manner had decreased considerably and Mikami felt like he was one of the last 'puppets' the Author was too fond of to let go. He'd seen lots of people come and go. By now, he's made his peace with that. Mikami never gave up on his wish of returning back home or seeing the Author punished for her evil actions, but he did not feel overly depressed about his situation anymore. Instead he was ready to actively support the community again and to try and figure the Author out once more. And that was when he left the Manor.
His time at Badfic has subtly changed Mikami. Mikami's behaviour to the outside has hardly changed at all - he's as stoic, distanced and down-to-business as he ever was, he merely sounds a little more bitter about the world now. He still rarely builds friendly, private relations and mostly talks to people out of necessity, but something about the way he sees people changed. Before coming to Badfic, Teru cared for humanity and wanted to protect humanity, but it was more a concept than actual people. Badfic had him trapped with the same people for a very long time, however, so Teru finally learned to see individuals again. Addtionally, Mikami can now more easily appreciate people's talents as he has learned that about anything can become useful under specific circumstances.
His morals have never changed, but shifted ever-so-slightly from what they were like in canon. Mikami could never ever stop seeing the world as separated into black and white, good and bad. He will always categorize people into those still righteous and those who have fallen. The new development is the existence of a tiny grey-zone. Mikami finally acknowledges that people can be practically forced to become 'evil' - it does not change the outcome, unrighteous is unrighteous, but it makes him a little more understanding. Teru himself has yet to completely figure out how he feels about this new perspective so he mostly ignores it and acts by his old rules anyway. Further than that, he is now more considerate of 'dirty' survival options that he would never have considered before - he is not tolerant of much, but he has figured that in certain situations the number of lives to be saved can be more relevant than keeping minor laws unbroken. Noted should be that such situations would always have to be direct life-or-death, otherwise Mikami would still never do anything less than 100 percent correct.
The way in which his previous in game history has affected him the most will be most apparent in his initial arrival at Haven. Mikami straight from canon would have taken quite a while to adjust to Haven and it wouldn't have gone without a slightly depressive streak. However, seeing he has spent 2 years in the Manor he is now past this period of doubt. I can't say he's comfortable with new worlds or the paranormal, but he now has ways of dealing with it if he has to. Of course, this doesn't make him unaffected by events. In the contrary, his canon fears and weaknesses mostly remain. It's just that they are not triggered by a strange setting alone yet.
