APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN!
The next processing date is Friday 11th October

IMPORTANT: PLEASE POST YOUR APPLICATIONS HERE ON THE NEW APPLICATION PAGE

We're so glad you're thinking of joining us in Haven, where we are all safe.

In order to apply for a canon character, please fill out the information below and post it in a comment in this entry. For an OC, please apply using the OC information. Please do not link to applications, all applications must be posted here. Please do not delete your applications; if you do not want it to be seen, you can request for it to be screened after a decision is made.

You may apply for two characters every two weeks, to a total of six characters. Only two of these may be from the same canon, and they cannot be too familiar with one another. Please make sure to mark the header of your comment(s) with RESERVED or NOT RESERVED, as well as the character name and canon. App challenges are not allowed currently.

Try to remember spelling and grammar are important, and in app length quality and not quantity is what matters. If you wish to request a specific apartment, please do so in the relevant part of the application. All parts of the application must be your own work, plagiarism will not be tolerated, though you are welcome to reuse your own old applications.

If you are asked for revisions, please don't panic! It doesn't mean the mods don't like you, only that we probably need more information before making a decision. If you are asked for revisions, you will have one week to supply them.

Every attempt will be made to place a character in their chosen apartments, though this may not always be possible depending on the slots available.

Applications are open constantly, but are only processed every other Friday at 7PM EST. The Saturday following acceptance, an IC mingle log will be posted for characters to be introduced to the game.

We now have a test drive community at [community profile] haventest which is continuously open. Posts there may be used in lieu of a sample in the application. Name: Auria
Contact Info: [plurk.com profile] AuriaTetsukai // AuriaTetsukai (AIM)
Other Characters Played: None
Preferred Apartment: #3.004

Character Name: Ib (no last name)
Canon: Ib
Canon Point: End of game, "Promise of Reunion" ending
Background/History: Here and Here.
Personality: Ib is nine years old, but already very independent for her age. At the very beginning of the game, she strikes off on her own to explore the art gallery, and spends the first part in the dark gallery alone until she meets Garry. Even when they begin travelling together, Ib doesn't abandon her self-sufficient nature to lean on him; instead, she and Garry become a team who support each other.

There is a degree of stoicism to Ib in that she deals with the horrors of the art gallery unflinchingly. There's no in-game reaction. Where Garry lashes out at the world that's trying to kill him (like kicking the mannequin head or the doll), Ib deals with everything calmly. It's only after Ib begins travelling with Garry -- after she has found someone to help her -- that we see her succumbing to everything that's going on around her, culminating in her fainting.

Ib is, in general, a rather quiet and well-behaved child. Being a more traditional RPG protagonist, she has no dialogue except for the choices when talking to other characters, and the inferred dialogue from various parts of the game (such as when she asks her mom to let her roam the gallery alone). The "Promise of Reunion" ending does require extensive conversing with Garry, but most of this is one-sided, with Ib offering two- or three-word phrases in response.

Though there isn't much given in regards to Ib's home life or family, much can be inferred about her personal life. Her family appears to be high-class and cultured, being able to afford tickets to a large-scale art exhibition. Garry also comments on the quality of Ib's clothes and her lace handkerchief, both likely expensive items. Ib is unable to read many negative words or words associated with death ("Hell", "isolation", and "wariness" are among the many words she doesn't know). She also assumes that Garry is "sleeping" if she finds herself in an ending where he dies. Though nine is an age where one might already have been acquainted with death or other hardships, Ib appears to still be unaware of these.

Abilities/Powers: Ib has no special abilities or powers; she is a normal human.
Items/Weapons: Only a piece of lemon-flavored candy.
Sample Entry: Here. If this is insufficient, I can write a different one.
Sample Entry Two: There were six paintings on the wall. They were very tall, probably taller than the child who studied them, and showed some signs of deterioration. They depicted six nondescript human beings, three on each side of a door, whose only defining features were the colors of clothes they wore.

Only one painting told the truth.

Liars puzzles were popular among puzzle enthusiasts, but Ib was not a puzzle enthusiast. Up until now, she hadn't had to use her mind like this to find her way through the dark gallery, and her only opposition had been walking statues. If she guessed wrong here, she imagined she'd face a worse fate than something so easily outrun. So how to solve this?

She approached the painting of a human in a green shirt. Yellow paint below the frame sloppily spelled out, "Stand in front of the statue, go west 3 steps, then south 1 step. That's the answer!" A quick glance at the painting next to it showed that the caption was similar, with a different set of walking directions. But the one next to that, with a person in yellow, declared, "The one in white speaks the truth!"

That's not right, Ib thought. It came to her very quickly, but puzzling through it took a little longer. If the yellow person was right, and white was telling the truth, then yellow would be telling the truth too, which didn't fit the parameters of the puzzle. Of course. So that was the trick to solving it.

Ib studied the next three paintings and found there to be a lot of contradictions -- Blue declared that Green was truthful, and Red provided her support for Yellow. The only painting who wasn't agreed with at all was Brown. (Ib wondered if he felt lonely at all, even if it was just for the sake of a puzzle.) She took note of Brown's instructions and went through the door at the end of the room.

The next room held a statue, placed in the center and surrounded by tiles. Ib guessed that the "steps" in the directions referred to the floor tiles, and counted four to the east, two to the north. The second tile clacked audibly beneath her shoe, like it had hit the sides -- was it loose? She stepped away and pried the tile up, digging her nails underneath it. Printed very neatly on the underside of the clay square was a blue number 4.

At once, an inhuman shriek and destructive tearing sounds emanated from behind the door. Ib clutched the tile to her chest in surprise. But the sounds abruptly ended, and nothing came through the door after her. She carefully set the tile back in its spot, crept to the door, and peeked back into the Liar's Room.

robert "bobby" drake | marvel-1610 (not reserved)

[personal profile] brainfreeze 2013-01-16 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: As a mutant and as an X-man, Bobby has had his share of horrors and trials. He discovered his mutant power at a young age during a time when mutants were being hunted and killed, joined a team that championed the mutant cause despite the strong anti-mutant sentiment, fought against both humans and fellow mutants, and eventually experienced many personal tragedies. Despite what he's been through, Bobby manages to stay the light-hearted, immature, wisecracking teenage boy he's always been. It's not in Bobby's nature to be serious for too long, much to the annoyance of most of his teammates and friends. He likes making jokes out of whatever situation he's in, whether through taunting his enemies or trying to make his friends laugh. Most his jokes are pop culture references or just -- really bad. Hey, he never claimed to be a wordsmith! Just a guy who's ready for a laugh or two.

Of course, most people view his tendency to laugh as immature and they'd be right. Bobby is still a teenager beneath his X-men uniform. He often fails to grasp the atmosphere and he's obtuse to the feelings of people around him. Sometimes he can't think beyond his own feelings, such as when he kisses Kitty while dating Rogue or messages Rogue while dating Kitty (yeah he's an idiot). He also can't think beyond his hormones, ogling the ladies even as said ladies wipe the floor with him. And with all the battles he's been through, you'd think he's learned something of strategy, but no. He's still the first one to get riled up, the most likely person to throw himself into a fight and attack head-on. Bobby's the sort of person that needs someone next to him, someone who can order him and calm him down at his worst. Without an anchor, Bobby's just a headstrong, irresponsible boy. He can also be a real jerk when he wants to be, but it doesn't take long for him to apologize when he's in the wrong.

It's somewhat admirable that Bobby has stayed the same despite everything that's happened to him. Bobby probably deals with most of the issues in his life by repressing them. He doesn't repress them to the point where he forgets about them, instead he simply doesn't allow himself to dwell. The only way Bobby can stay as the same cheerful teenager he's used to being is if he picks himself up after every fall. Sure he's seen some really crappy stuff, but he'd rather push that stuff to the back of his mind and move on with is life. He wants to live and enjoy his life, video-games, junk food, etc. And if that means refusing to change, if that means staying the same, then Bobby is okay with that.

The best part of Bobby is that he has a good heart underneath his stupid immaturity. He doesn't think it's right for humans to hate mutants or for mutants to hate humans. He doesn't believe in mutant supremacy or getting revenge against the people who have abused and hated him for just being a mutant. Bobby believes in the cause of the X-men and Professor Xavier's dream for peace. As Professor Xavier has noticed, it's Bobby's warm heart that truly defines him. Despite his parents pressuring him to testify against the X-men after a brutal mission, Bobby stands up to both them and the mutant-hating public in support of the X-men. His loyalty to the X-men also stems from his desire to be loyal to his friends. He treasures his teammates and would leap to their defense in battle any time. He even goes toe-to-toe with Magneto in order to rescue the team (despite ending up scarred by this encounter). He doesn't care about whether or not his friends are mutants and humans. What's important is that they're his friends.

After the events of 'Ultimatum', which killed most of his friends and left him homeless, Bobby is not left entirely unaffected. He's no longer part of the X-men. You'd think that Bobby would be free to be the teenager he truly is now that he's no longer on the team, but that's not the case at all. He immediately seeks the help of his closest friend on the team, Kitty, and bonds with Peter and Johnny (who aren't mutants, but understand how it feels to be 'different'). He's not the type of person that can do well on his own. He frequently mentions his desire to be an X-men again and his annoyance at having to live as a 'normal' teenager. So, despite everything, Bobby likes being an X-men and having a purpose.

After Peter's death and the sudden revival of mutant hatred in America, Bobby is forced to live underground with Kitty and Johnny. He watches as the nation he's protected as an X-men ultimately turns its back on him. The combination of that betrayal and the stress of having to live on the run take its toll. Kitty remarks that while Bobby is still a jokester, it's obvious that he's feeling the pressure. He becomes more pragmatic, having realized that the only way to survive is to fight back. And while Bobby still refrains from taking human lives, he's not afraid to punch back and act like the violent mutants the public despises. Most of his friends have given up on America and 'peace', and Bobby is well on his way to doing the same.

Emma Swan | Once Upon a Time | Reserved

[personal profile] elects 2013-01-16 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:

Emma Swan wasn't always alone. At one point, she had been in love with a man named Neal; and seeing as how she hadn't exactly brought a lot to the table on first meeting him, she was already a loner. She always had been. Being in the foster system was hard on her, and she had nothing. But then Neal had come into her life, whom she would do anything for, even risk getting herself arrested to help him out.

However, thanks to August, Neal left Emma and she ended up getting arrested and having a son, Henry.

Fast-forward to the beginning of the series, and all of this had made Emma who she was today. She was a loner, and slightly distrustful of others. But there was one thing that she had retained from her encounters with Neal; she could still play the part when she was in front of others. Emma had been a good enough actress then to get what they needed, and now she was as well, as shown in the beginning of the first episode and a few other times in the first season (especially when Henry asks her about his father, and she lies to him).

Enter Henry. At first, she had no idea what to do with this kid who walked into her apartment as if he owned the place. She panicked. The idea that the boy whom she had given away when he was born (to give him his "best chance") had come and actually tracked her down was unbelievable to her. And what was even more unbelievable? His story about Storybrooke, and that everyone there was a fairy tale character under the curse.

It was enough just to humor him to take him home, right?

Emma is naturally skeptical, which is why that she wouldn't initially believe the idea of the curse, or magic. She would play along for Henry's sake from time to time, but when he wasn't around she wouldn't believe in it. She's very logically minded -- she wants to know why things are the way they are and believing things out of a book on blind faith was just something she didn't do. It had seemed so far-fetched at the time that there was no way she could believe in it, no matter how much proof Henry tried to give her for it happening. She would counter with a realistic answer, one that made perfect sense in her head.

That is, until Henry ate the poisoned turnover that put him into a magical sleep. That was when she learned to believe in the curse of Storybrooke. That was when she risked it all to save him, and eventually true love's kiss woke him from his slumber.

Why save the son that she gave away? First of all, she wanted to give him his best chance, as referred earlier. Emma had had nothing, then. What kind of parent could she have been, giving birth to a kid in jail? Even at first, she was still a little distant from Henry, but he wormed his way into her heart remarkably quickly. After saving him, she took him back, and has since started being a little more motherly to him than she was before. She's protective of him -- especially after what happened with the turnover. Though she's still unsure of herself as a mother, she does still try her best to do right by him.

The notion of family is close to Emma's heart, and for some of the instances that she helped the people of Storybrooke out, it was for that family that she never had. She helped Ashley Boyd when she was having doubts about her baby, and when Ashley decided to keep it, Emma gave her some advice:
If you want to give this kid its best chance, it’s going to be with
someone who’s ready, so know what that means.
Your whole life is going to change and once you decide that it’s yours,
this ‘running away’ can’t happen. You have to grow up
and you can’t ever leave. Understand?

She used her own experience to help Ashley, and even faced Mr. Gold and made another deal with him so that Ashley could keep her baby. Emma had the same stubborness to help the orphaned siblings find their father, because she didn't want them to be put into the system like she had. This time she had faced Regina, who had seen to it to make sure that the children would leave Storybrooke. Again, Emma worked it out so that the children could stay with their father.

Regina. In the first season, Emma and Regina were constantly butting heads with each other. Regina was usually telling Emma to stay away from Henry--which was something Emma more often than not decided to ignore eventually. When Henry got poisoned, Emma actually shoved Regina into some shelving in anger about what she'd done. In season two however, things still started off frosty with them, but have since started to defrost when Regina saved Mary Margaret and Emma in coming back from Storybrooke. She began to try to change her viewpoint on Regina, such as inviting her to the welcome home party for Emma and Mary Margaret, though she cited it as being because Henry had asked her to do it. Still, it was a start. She even initially stuck up for Regina when they learned of Archie's "death", until she found "proof" of doing so. That was when her tune changed...that is, until Archie came to the door.

Regarding anything outside of her life in the foster system, Emma is very secretive about. She doesn't want to divulge almost anyone into it, and was horrified when Regina turned up to have had details about her time in prison. She even lied to Henry about Neal and how he died--which was untrue. She told him a grand story about how he had been a firefighter and had died on the job, to appease him and protect Henry from whom Emma thought as a deserter.

Stubborness is something that runs in her family. When Emma gets serious about something, she's so hard-headed that she'll see it through to the end no matter what. Example being Ashley and the orphaned children, as well as Mary Margaret when she was charged for murder. She will do her hardest to make sure that she was the one who was right; but if not...well, she might grudgingly say that she was wrong.

Mary Margaret is another influential person in her life -- seeing as how she's her mother. Even before Emma fully believed it, she was close to her and wanted to clear her name when she was accused of murder. When asked why, Emma says that she's been alone for so long, and she didn't want to lose her "family" in Mary Margaret. When she learned that she was, in fact, her daughter...Emma had mixed feelings at first. But then she began to accept the family she had never had in David and Mary, even telling Mulan in the Fairy Tale world to take Mary back to Storybrooke should anything happen to her.

Tact is something that Emma doesn't have, at some points--Mr. Gold compared it to her father's lack of tact, which is more or less true. She doesn't like to mince words or beat around the bush, she wants to get to the point as quickly as possible. The beating around the bush often irritates her, since it'd most likely be time that she could be getting information or something else instead.

Responsibility is something that Emma had run from her entire life, and something that had gotten in the way of taking up her position as "savior" of the people of Storybrooke. When she began to feel pressured about taking up her role in the story, she panicked and started making plans to leave the town. August mentions to her when he attempts to show her his wooden leg that she doesn't want to see the truth, therefore she only saw flesh. She didn't want to have that burden on her shoulders, only wanting to protect Henry and that was it. In season two, she has grudgingly started to accept her role as savior.

To sum it all up: Emma's a little rough around the edges, at times. But she will help people where they need it and is especially loyal to the ones she's close to. She's ultimately a good person, although she does make her share of mistakes--just like anyone else.

[personal profile] clockeyes 2013-01-16 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
Background/History:

Here is the history of Cheriour's world and how it differs from ours, if interested.

In the beginning, there was God. And God formed the angels, which would serve Him for all his needs concerning humanity. These angels were not like human beings- in fact, the lower in the hierarchy they were, they more they started to look like automatons. As humans were created in God's image, if an angel was more human, it meant that they were high in the hierarchy- the ones in the middle had elements of both man and machine.

Cheriour was one of these "middle" angels. When God discovered that people were murdering one another and generally being corrupted by their own selfish desires, He called for an angel to take care of the matter so that the ones who followed God would be able to live without fear of their influence. And Cheriour, being the lover of humanity that he was, stepped up for the job. He was given a sword blessed by his fellow brethren, so that if a human was being tainted by the influence of a demon, he could banish it back to where it came from.

But after he went and performed his first murder, Cheriour realized how truly horrible it was. He had thought that there was nothing to it, that it was a simple duty that required no effort. But he was wrong.

He continued to perform his job, but as time went on and the corruption spread, he began to have something akin to a nervous breakdown. He was killing the thing he loved most in the world besides God, after all. So, one day, after he had finished off a particularly cruel serial killer, he stumbled into the abode of his best friend, an angel called Pendroz who ruled over the seventh hour of the day.

He had but one request for his friend.

"Find some way to stop the screaming in my head..."

Realizing just how much the guilt was eating Cheriour from the inside, Pendroz collaborated with the other angels of the hours and decided that the best way for Cheriour to deal with it was to provide a distraction for him, something he could focus on besides the duty he was supposed to perform.

It was Cheriour, in the end, who suggested the idea of his eyes being replaced by clocks. He was half machine, after all. It couldn't be hard to integrate such a simple element into his mechanical systems.

And so, Cheriour got the distraction he needed. Instead of screaming, he would hear the quiet ticking in his head, a sound that was enough to quell the guilty feelings raging in his heart. Plus, the clocks served a purpose too- he could use them to count down the time a criminal had left before he came to finish them off.

But after thousands of years of doing his job, a problem arose. There was someone going around killing angels down on Earth, and no one had no idea who it was.

With the help of Pendroz, he is tracking the murderer down, playing an intricate game of cat and mouse that could result in either predator or prey getting killed. Who has the upper hand? And who will not live to see the day? It's all up in the air, and as the clocks wind closer to the destruction of all angels on Earth, Cheriour has to hurry before it's much too late...

Background/History:

In a continent often torn apart by war, the country of Imperial Nelpha has been at peace for years, due to its current ruler, Gread Nelphi. Under his rule, the country, while perhaps not prosperous (and still possessing its share of corrupt nobility), does fairly well for itself. Unfortunately, it still has its dark spot: his son, Prince Starnel—who, simply put, is a douche. Though his less than pleasant personality is more than apparent to his father, his worse deeds are hidden by the nobles who support him.

Fortunately, he has his good counterpart in the form of none other than his son, Toale. Specifically, his eldest illegitimate child of fifteen bastard children, as Starnel has a tendency to sleep around. Excelling in his studies and beloved by the people, Toale is hated by his father and legitimate siblings, and so has been kicked out of the house and forced into a single manor with his fourteen younger siblings, whom he takes care of. In spite of this, Toale does his best to help the country, with officials associating with him behind his father’s back and Toale bringing members of the corrupt nobility to justice.

It’s because of this that the people of Nelpha support Toale, hoping for him to inherit the throne instead of his father, but Toale himself has no desire to become king. Rather, all he wants is to live a simple life, taking care of his younger brothers and sisters.

And so, of course, he can’t have that.

The stone begins to roll when he has a fateful encounter with Ryner Lute and Ferris Eris, two travellers. While near the private library he frequents, Toale and two of his siblings are targeted by a group of thugs. Ryner, who happened to be trying to enter the library at the same time, easily saves them in an attempt to protect the book Toale’s sister is holding. Though Ryner and Ferris initially reject Toale’s wish to repay the favour somehow, they quickly change their mind upon realizing that he knows the master librarian and is thus able to grant them entrance into the library. Afterwards, Ryner and Ferris freeload off of Toale at his house because they’re lovely people like that.

With Ryner and Ferris come two more companions—namely, Ferris’s little sister, Iris, and their friend, Sion Astal, who just so happens to secretly be the king of Roland, from where they hail. Under the guise of Ryner’s cousin, he… also freeloads off of Toale for a bit.

However, Sion’s arrival marks the presence of a decidedly less pleasant individual—a subordinate of Sion’s named Miran Froaude, who decides that Toale is a potential threat. While Toale and his siblings are asleep, Ryner and Ferris fend off Froaude, before deciding to leave without another word the next day.

A year later, Nelpha’s peace ends when Roland invades. Overwhelmed by Roland’s power as its army carries out a massacre against the Nelpha people, Nelpha’s fate is sealed. In an attempt to save his country, Gread offers a proposal: in return for his and Starnel’s life, Roland will accept their surrender. Unfortunately, the plan goes awry when Starnel, to save his own life, kills his father and moves to flee the country. To buy some time, he sends an army of ten thousand soldiers to stall Roland.

This is where Toale comes in. In order to save those soldiers, Toale heads to their location to lead them away. In the process, however, they believe that Toale has arisen to fight off Roland. Furthermore, Toale begins to unintentionally earn followers in the form of citizens, nobles, and even bandits in the area. This rather complicates things for him, as he intends to try and follow through with Gread’s plan—that is, he’ll offer his own life to Roland in hopes that they will accept Nelpha’s surrender. With an army like this, though, he can’t expect them to believe that he has peaceful intentions. Not only that, but with this many people under him, it’s only a matter of time before Roland (or his father, for that matter) finds him and kills him.

It's unknown what happens to his siblings at this point. At the very least, Ryner and the others don't know if they found refuge or are already dead. As to whether Toale himself knows or not has yet to be mentioned.

Either way, backed into a corner and trying not to break down from the stress, Toale receives a beacon of hope in the form of his old friend, Ryner. After sending a message ahead of time to notify Toale (via Ryner’s friend, Kiefer, whom Toale falls for), Ryner appears to save Toale, in spite of being Sion’s best friend. Though Toale is initially suspicious and interrogates Ryner, he decides to trust Ryner, not having much of a choice in the matter. Sadly, the plan that Ryner came up is ruined when it turns out that he underestimated how far Sion is willing to go in this war—and an attempt to rectify this obstacle is further ruined when the Roland army uses Rule Fragments (i.e. weapons of mass destruction) against them. In the chaos, Toale is fatally wounded while protecting Kiefer, as a third of his body is destroyed.

Despite the Anti-Roland Coalition—led by an acquaintance of Ryner named Vois Fiurelle—coming to help with Derunio, a Rule Fragment that heals wounds, Toale’s life still begins to fade away. He manages to hold on long enough for Ryner to wake up so, so that he can pass on a message to Ryner: look after his people after he dies. Assured that Ryner will indeed do so, Toale dies with a smile.

—Except he doesn’t stay dead. As it turns out, Vois purposely stopped Toale’s breathing and heartbeat in order to hold his life hostage against Ryner. After negotiations go smoothly, he returns Toale’s life to him. However, as Toale’s right arm and leg were destroyed beyond repair, he’s forced to use prosthetic limbs in their place.

In the aftermath, the Nelpha refugees are taken in by a nearby country and the army is integrated into the Anti-Roland Coalition. Soon, they become allied with the Geihlficlant Empire, and so end up in a fight against the Gastark Empire, who are intent on conquering the continent. During the battle, Toale frequently butts heads with Vois—particularly when Vois’s subordinate is fatally wounded protecting Vois, and Toale insists that he use Derunio on her. Vois apparently decides to shut Toale up via a very final way—that is, having another subordinate kill him. Fortunately, Ferris and Ryner step in at this point, protecting him and forcing Vois to rescue his dying subordinate. That said, this doesn’t stop Toale from later saving Vois’s life by kicking him out of the line of fire.

Eventually, Ryner is killed in the fight. However, it turns out this was a part of Vois’s plan, as Ryner’s death allows his true powers to awaken. He is then brought back to life and fends off Gastark’s final, most powerful attack, saving his friends in the process. Following that, Ryner falls unconscious for several days, with Kiefer and Ferris nursing over him during that period. That said, Toale is the one by his side when Ryner finally wakes up. He and Ryner then banter for a bit, before Toale confesses to Ryner that he likes Kiefer, but knowing that she has eyes only for Ryner, won’t pursue her.

Later, while Toale is standing guard, a sleeping spell is cast upon the Anti-Roland Coalition by Ryner’s father, allowing Ryner to meet with him in secret. As morning approaches, everyone awakens. Toale and Kiefer quickly meet up with Ryner (and Ferris), where Ryner has Toale tell the army not to worry, though he doesn’t offer an explanation. Afterwards, Ryner, Ferris, and Kiefer go on ahead to their destination, while Toale stays behind with the rest of the army.

Nicholas D. Wolfwood | Trigun | Reserved

[personal profile] nothinglikegod 2013-01-16 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality:

On the surface, Wolfwood seems like an upbeat, easy going kind of guy. He's a sucker for pretty women, loves a good drink, and smokes like a chimney. It's a good thing he's a priest. He can forgive himself of his vices, while he wanders the world saving the lambs who've strayed off their path. But don't be fooled by his seemingly flippant disregard of Bible principals. He takes what he does very seriously and is liable to get offended if you even suggest that he doesn't. He's got a weakness for kids, especially troubled kids. Or troubled kids with hot moms. Wolfwood will go out of his way to help children in need and should they be threatened, well Wolfwood will have to give the offenders a little taste of Lord's grace. Because of his past, children and their welfare are very important to Wolfwood. In fact, the church he tends also doubles as an orphanage, and since money's tight and offerings scant, he's struck out on his own to make some money for them.

This is how he's brought into contact with the series protag, Vash the Stampede. And when those two get together, they're like two peas in a pod. They're almost instantly friends. They drink together and laugh together and they kick ass together. It's a pretty epic bromance right from the very beginning. Meryl goes so far as to call them birds of a feather and ain't that the gospel truth. So, it's pretty easy to see why these two are such fast friends. He can keep stride when Vash experiences mood whiplash and can match Vash's quips with some of his own. But Wolfwood knows Vash and knows that idiot facade is just that. A facade. He's the first to notice and comment that Vash's smiles are empty, no matter how wide or how cheerful they seem. He's hurting like crazy, but he still manages to put on a smile for the world. Wolfwood knows this because he's not so different himself.

You see, Wolfwood's past isn't exactly the cleanest. His life has been colored by violence and this has done a pretty fantastic job at warping his world view. At just seven years old, Wolfwood was orphaned and placed in the care of an abusive "guardian." And this abuse prompted the boy to later shoot and kill his guardian. This brought him to a church ran orphanage and under the tutalege of a man called Chapel the Evergreen. Wolfwood learned to be the excellent shot he is today while working with Chapel and picked up many of his ideals and philosophies from him. But this part of Wolfwood's history is something he flat out refuses to talk about and if questioned, he'll give vague answers at best and completely derail the conversation at worst. In fact, don't even ask questions. He's just a gun-totin', chain smokin' priest. Move along. Nothing to see here.

Just because Wolfwood and Vash are really good friends, doesn't mean that they don't butt heads. Wolfwood and Vash often have differing opinions on how to handle situations and if someone needs to be shot or not. That isn't to say Wolfwood has a total disregard for human life. On the contrary, he's very compassionate and will do whatever he can to help out people in need, even going so far as to throwing himself into danger for the safety of others. Still, he is a very firm believer in sacrificing one to save the many. If one person's death is going to save two people's lives, then he'll kill the one without batting an eye. On the other hand, Vash goes out of his way to avoid killing anyone, even the people who are trying to kill him. This boggles Wolfwood, often to the point of arguing with Vash over his stubbornness. But after repeatedly watching Vash resolve issues without resorting to violence sort of forced Wolfwood to realize that there is always an alternative, that it isn't always necessary for someone to die. So Wolfwood often finds himself now questioning things he had always thought were absolute and certain. He says he's reminded of everything he hates about himself when he looks at Vash.

Differences aside, Vash is easily one of Nicholas' best friends and he'll invariably rush to Vash's aid, even if most of the time Nick is the reason Vash is in trouble. After all, Vash is his partner in crime and getting into trouble is something they're both good at.

Character Name: Morgiana, Mor
Canon: Magi
Canon Point: Chapter 145 - after learning of the Kou Emperors death.
Background/History: Magi | Morgiana
selseiras: (} took a ride.)

[personal profile] selseiras 2013-01-17 05:42 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:

An exceptional girl who is often quiet, hot-headed and tough; Morgiana is notable for caring deeply for her friends. She is somebody who is very stubborn, and will act childish if she is stopped from doing anything that she would like to do. Morgiana has a heart of gold, she is very loyal to those who will treat her right, especially Alibaba who saved her from living the life as a slave girl, and is very grateful for him and Aladdin too. The first time we meet Morgiana, she is someone who never shows much emotion, from her life living under Jamil, aiding to him always; and considerably as he was the one who turned Morgiana into a frightened little puppy, while abusing her because he 'owned' her. She is someone who has been kicked around, shown as worthless, as nothing more but a slave; and yet the Fanalis has overcome this, moving on, or at least trying to do so with the help of her new found friends.

The reasoning behind Morgiana becoming emotionless, was because of Jamil's constant beating on her. Even while she was younger, all her life ever since being placed within his clutches, she had been treated this way; but as a slave had to grin and bear it, or the beatings would be worse. She became a slave when she was only a child, taken away from her parents, and crying daily for them; in hopes they would hear her. As a former slave, she had to endure the beatings, and run to Jamil's aid whenever he needed it. After meeting Alibaba and Aladdin, her personality had changed, becoming friendlier all round, less cold and she is now able to smile, becoming happy for the first time in her life. It is then she states she will become her friends ' wings '.

While Morgiana is a girl with extraordinary abilities and talents, someone who loves her friends dearly and will do anything for them; she is still insecure about her past as a slave girl, and it is something that will be on her mind, even stopping her to do such things; for example, she turned down Hakuryuus' offer to become his empress, because she was a former slave; and in her eyes she would never be worthy enough, however she might have also rejected his offer because of the budding feelings for Alibaba. As Morgiana is a former slave, the shackles she was once bounded by still seem to haunt her, becoming easily embarrassed by the scars on her ankles, especially if she becomes aware that someone might have noticed them. Over time it has lessoned, but life as a slave has taken its toll on Morgiana and she is still very self-conscious about her past.

She is still a girl, tom-boyish if anything; who will act as a typical female would, becoming flushed at compliments and becoming jealous at the right moments, while seemingly getting over the fact within a few moments. Morgiana is honest, always speaking what is on her mind; and Morgiana is a girl that wears her heart on her sleeve, but she is strong in her own mindset, in her abilities and someone not to be misinterpreted, or mistreated for anything, for anything else. She is one of the most unselfish, and kind-hearted person you may ever meet; but when she is jealous, she is jealous and it's best to leave her alone in her temper, and within her stubbornness.

If Morgiana trusts you enough, you will hear of her past as a slave; and while it is something that continues to be on her mind; it is possibly the only weak spot within her, besides her friends becoming captured, or even them passing on. Morgiana is someone who is independent, wanting to do things on her own, not following a crowd, or doing it only because someone else had. She makes her own decisions, never relying on another person; unless it is necessary, however at times she heavily relies on her friends; continuing to stay thankful to both Alibaba and Aladdin.

But what is Morgiana's biggest downfall? She is someone who is barely taken off guard, and would rather place her friends happiness before her own. Still life as a former slave has been daunting, and she will jump into battle without a second thought; even if it is deathly dangerous. Morgiana has poor swimming capabilities, being showed to be saved; which also reflects on these personalities while she feels the need to become her friend wings, she still cannot do everything on her own. She never complains about her work load, or anything else but her diligence is what keeps her going, and her decision to live and love for other people she surrounds herself with.

CHARACTER INFO:

Character Name: Fenris
Canon: Dragon Age
Canon Point: Post-Final boss fight with Knight Commander Meredith after siding with the mages; before Hawke went missing and mostly everyone was still with Hawke as they escaped Kirkwall and into the hills.

Background/History: Dragon Age 2 // Character Bio

HURP, BIOWARE GAME. Characters in a BioWare game, particularly ones in the Dragon Age series are majorly affected by the choices and actions of the player character. Here are some of the major player character factoids that relate to Fenris and his Hawke’s “universe.”

Dragon Age: Origins
A save file transfer was used, so Fenris’ knowledge of the events of the first game is that the Hero of Fereldan was a human noble that defeated the archdemon of the Fifth Blight and now reigns as Queen of Fereldan with fellow Grey Warden, King Alister. This hardly effects the overall game and Fenris not at all.

Hawke
Each game has its own unique player character- the one Fenris knows is a man and an apostate mage who’s sister Bethany died when their family escaped from Fereldan. Fenris’ Hawke went the “humorous/charming” character route who confronted conflicts with emotional deflecting humor rather than violence or passive understanding. Fenris was romantically involved with Hawke despite the latter being a mage and most importantly, the relationship inspired Fenris to side with the mages alongside Hawke at the climax of the game. While it didn’t soften Fenris’ discrimination and wariness of mages as a whole, it made him significantly less hostile towards them and showed that, under duress, Fenris is a loyal companion. This is important because as the relationship went the “Friendship Points” route, Fenris is a noticeably nicer person then from the start and come the epilogue, the only companion to have stayed at Hawke’s side.

Varania and Danarius
In Act II Fenris learns from one of the Tevinter magisters pursuing him that he had a sister, who was still alive. It isn't until Act III that he manages to come into contact with her and set up a meeting. Nervous that it was a trap, Fenris asked Hawke to accompany him. Fenris was right- his sister's existence was not a lie and she had in fact managed to meet him in person...and that it was a trap. His former master promised his sister (revealed to be a mage) that he would take her on as his apprentice if she agreed to help him recapture her brother. Hawke came to Fenris's defense and they managed to kill Danarius- which just left Varania. Fenris was all set to kill his sister in a fit of rage- but Hawke stepped in and stopped him. In doing so, Fenris learned from his sister before she escaped that his entire ordeal was his own doing- that he competed to be a slave under Danarius for the purpose of receiving his lyrium markings to use the boon to free his mother and sister.

This left him pretty conflicted, to say the least. It plays a pivotal role in Fenris' character because it gives him the chance to learn a part of his otherwise forgotten past and, through a series of post-quest dialogue, reaffirm his realtionship with Hawke that had since then "been on break."

Mage Ending-Anders Killed
The ending has two routes- side with the mages or side with the templars. You have to side with one or the other because the climax of the game is one of Hawke’s companions- the mage Anders, who was fused with the spirit of Justice and Vengeance decided it’d be hi-fucking-larious to blow up Kirkwall’s Chantry and murdering everyone inside, including the Grand Cleric to spark a war between the factions. It worked, and Hawke was pissed. Hawke responded outside of his usual “laugh it off” demeanor and stabbed the fucker dead and sided with the mages to “clean up” Anders’s big whoopsie. Fenris followed suit and aided Hawke in the battle that ended with the leaders of both factions dead and their merry little band high tailing it for the hills. According to the epilogue, three years into their escape and all but Fenris left Hawke’s side- then Hawke went missing, and apparently, as did the Hero of Fereldan. Shit got real-er.

Re: Fenris || Dragon Age || reserved

[personal profile] illiterage 2013-01-17 08:10 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:
Fenris has a somewhat thorny bramble of an unlikable personality. An escaped slave with amnesia due to the painful circumstances that gave him his lyrium tattoos has left him world weary and bitter with a deep-seated hatred for mages. From the Tevinter Imperium where mages rule and slavery legal, he had been exposed to the worst, if not horrific, behavior that can be exhibited by mages in a seat of power. The ordeal intensified thanks to Fenris having been mastered by one of the cruelest magisters in the Imperium. The marks left were more than just physical and Fenris would gladly tell you what a sick place the Imperium is and cite it as an example as to why all mages can’t be trusted with any kind of power, even if they are good intentioned. He actually will talk about the Imperium at great length and with little provocation. It’s pretty understandable considering there was a time where that was all he knew and, frankly, hated.

But while his opinions on the Imperium and mages are strong, Fenris is still humble just enough to recognize that not everything he feels is set in stone. A rather important aspect of his personality is that even though he can be stubborn and even antagonistic towards mages, mage sympathizers or just those who are willing to turn a blind eye to the corrupt system within the Imperium- Fenris is almost always willing to step back and admit that his experiences do not give him the right to make assumptions about entire groups and he'll sometimes even apologize if he feels he's coming off too hateful. While not always the case, say with such situations where Merrill finds blood magic safe and Anders is just...being Anders, Fenris at least is capable of making the effort to not let his emotions cloud his better judgment while still being very cautious.

Fenris is neither talkative nor all that friendly. At first. He’s initially very blunt in group conversations, not often speaking unless spoken to and even then he’s very short with his responses, relying on deadpan humor and sarcasm. Because of these, he’s usually perceived as angst ridden and broody, when in reality he does NOT consider himself either of those things and can be rather put out if someone implies otherwise. In fact, he considers his silence and lack of expression a sign of content. But he’s not without his moods. Alone with Hawke, speaking as either a friend or being all tsun-tsun, he will show shades of his frustration with his situation and start to lash out if not at Hawke, then on unsuspecting bottles of wine. Buuuut not a moment after his monologues his feelings and sulks, he tries to apologize for it even when his sour attitude has some justification to it.

He’s either very resentful of his own darker moods, or still so unused to being a free man that he feels like he should apologize for almost every outburst he feels is, “his fault/his problems.” Or some combination of the two. But Fenris is in no way a doormat for it, however. He is still very passionate about his worldly views, and doesn’t shy away from defending his opinions when he feels he is in the right. Even if his last word comes off as harsh or even cruel- he doesn’t spare feelings and others find it difficult (but importantly, not impossible) to sway towards the alternative.

He is the kind to lighten up and come around, though. Even in the beginning Fenris is shown to have some semblance of a sense of humor- laughing at party banter humor and smiling at Hawke’s derpy attempts at wit and charm. He will joke around himself- albeit in a very dry, deadpan manner in response to others, but he tries. Overall, Fenris is very low key the majority of the time. Slow to start conversations and very quick to finish them, but he’s not without his sharp tongue and wry joke.

A few other highlights in Fenris’s personality are his pride and relationship with his religion. For a slave new to freedom, Fenris has a surprisingly strong streak of pride in him. He’s not the haughty, self-embellishing kind of proud, though. Fenris can just be too proud to readily accept help from others, thinking he can handle himself despite being a fish out of water. This more often than not lands with his decisions biting him in the ass. While not naïve, he is at a disadvantage when it comes to living for himself. There are times he will swallow his pride, though. Such occasions are flattering Aveline to keep the guard away from the mansion he’s squatting in to (if Varric is to be believed) schmoozing Hawke out of a bit of coin for his card games with Varric and Isabela. HE’S NOT PERFECT, but he doesn’t lie about his short comings- if anything.

Also, religion. Fenris has an abrasive, tentative relationship with his world’s church- the Chantry. His ordeals have, as another companion put it, soured his views of the church and their god. Fenris initially believe the Maker had abandoned him and that his freedom was something he won for himself. Aforementioned other companions, a Chantry brother named Sebastian, ended up forming an odd couple bond with Fenris over this. Their eventual friendship and Sebastian’s gentle (and implied to be successful)evangelism shows a more contemplative, spiritual side to Fenris as someone who not just prays but seriously considers faith and morality- behavior not seen otherwise.

Abilities/Powers:

Fenris is a warrior-class combatant who specialized in two-handed weapons, such as long swords and battle axes. Heavy weapon capable, Fenris is considered most proficient when he's going down Buster Sword-style on an enemy because the weapon to warrior size difference is both hilarious and popular, apparently. While lanky even for an elf, Fenris is a tank when in combat and strong enough to utilize such large weapons with deadly force. Basically he's a waifu Heavy, or Summer Glau.

This is not a common class for an elf, but fitting in that Fenris is anything but due to the situation that made him so. Fenris is a special circumstance type of warrior, a Lyrium Ghost. When he was still a slave, Fenris was put through a magical procedure in which his master burned lyrium into his skin as an experiment. The ordeal was so painful that Fenris pushed it and every memory before it out of his mind- but it did not come without its strengths. Being lyrium infused gives Fenris the strange ability to temporarily phase through solid objects and become more difficult to track in battle. The extent of his abilities is unknown, even to him. What he's only been able to do so far is phase his hands through people's chests ala Kitty Pryde on the rag. Fenris has little control over this ability and tries not to rely on it too heavily out of lack of understanding and a general contempt for it.

Has an almost encyclopedic knowledge of his country and neighbouring nations. Multi-lingual and versed in the cultures and traditions of other species and lands, he's surprisingly intelligent for a former slave who's education was virtually non-existent. Moreso as he shows his greater knowledge of these things early into his freedom- meaning he learned all of this by observations and personal interaction alone.

As for weaknesses, Fenris is not a physically weak character by any stretch of the imagination, but he's not really super powered save for being just a fraction taller and more combat effective than your average elf. Because he uses medieval weapons and armour in such a game's setting, it doesn't matter how physically strong he is when set against futuristic weapons with his adorable little sword. That right there is his biggest problem, in combat, anyway.

Fenris is also illiterate (though far from unintelligent- see above), and stubborn as hell about it. While normally characters that can't read Earth's English have magic translations and such- Fenris isn't exactly that great a scholar in his own language, either and would feel silly if he relied on audio transcripts exclusively- a feat in itself as his medieval brain would have to get over the idea that technology =/= demons and wizards. This places him at a disadvantage with things such as signs and text messages and the expected challenges placed upon anyone in his situation.

In short;
-Powerhouse for an elf
-A little on the lanky side
-Knife to a gunfight
-Words are wizards
-Can stick his hand in things (sometimes)

Items/Weapons:
- His armor
- His run-of-the-mill sword
- The Amell family crest
- Hawke's "favor"- a red scarf around his wrist

Sample Entry:

Sample Post @ Singularity

Sample Entry Two:

Denarius was dead; his sister who knows where, and here he was sitting in the Hanged Man feeling as though he lost a fist fight with an ogre. Fenris prided himself in knowing that if he hit the bottle each and every time he was emotionally compromised, he would be dead. Twice over. So really pounding a few back now was almost a celebration of his magnificent self-control. That said self-control was taking a vacation with the recent upheaval of all he knew to be accepted reality was moot point now. He went to a lot of trouble finding a place well the hell away from anyone he knew personally, and he wasn't going to let something like a cut-off point stop him now.

The port hole of a window from one of the rooms in the Hanged Man helped little to look out at the skies of Kirkwall when he needed it most. He never indulged the idea of being a romantic, but the thought of dropping the bottle and walking out now where the night skies hung over Lowtown in splendour that had not yet been choked out by the smog from the mines and Dark Town. Wrapped in the consolations of Andrastate, Shartan, and all the dead gods of the Dales until it was as if he was standing in the middle of sky itself. It was almost appealing, but he could always blame it on the slow burn of the alcohol snaking down his throat.

Character Name: Shinya Kogami
Canon: Psycho-Pass
Canon Point: Ending of episode 11
Background/History: Psycho-Pass Wikia link
Personality: Upon meeting him for the first time, one is greeted with a character that exposes little about himself and who likes to run his own show; Kogami knows the rules of the game so well that he is capable of playing around the loopholes and doing with it as he pleases, while staying within the boundaries of what is still--technically--allowed.

As far as first impressions go, we learn that he takes his job seriously and wouldn't put it off for any reason, and that while he'll go ahead to handle things on his own, he knows the significance of teamwork. This, however, does not make him the ideal team player for, while he is, he goes along with his own methods and selfishly uses others to aid him succeed in his tasks. Needless to say, Kogami, for his serious looks and intimidating gestures, is an extremely intelligent man. He does not profess this loudly for others to know, but his actions and carefully chosen words show that he has thought things through every possible angle before coming upon a conclusion.

One would assume that given his character type, Kogami would be difficult to read, easy to anger, and impossible to approach. It is with surprise that he is anything but that; he speaks freely, without much restrain for harbouring secrets or stories of the past, and deals with unforeseen situations with a cool head and a calm demeanour. A good example of this is when Akane (a new Inspector) learns of his past and the reasons as to why he has become the man he is now. Rather than reacting violently or upset that his otherwise "confidential" personal information is being spread around without his permission, he assumes it's only logical that it should be and that he can't blame anyone for being curious about the matter. In a sense, it's almost as if he puts very little value in his own personal history--so little value that, for him, it is not necessary to keep it under lock and key from others. It is very likely that he would have shared this very information with others, had he been questioned directly about it.

He has a mostly serious personality that is outlined by his sense of humour, a trait that comes as surprising as his cocky arrogance in the face of danger. He'll also constantly bring up an embarrassing factoid about someone else in order to tease them, which shows that he can also be playful around others if just to get a mirthful grin out of the flustered reactions of others. His serious personality can also be seen as one mixed with disdain and disregard for his surroundings, for as hard-working as Kogami is, he has the distinct ability of looking bored and disinterested in his surroundings or whenever someone speaks.

This, though it can be seen as him being uncaring, only but touches the surface of Kogami's intelligent attributes: most of the time he'll be surveying the area and putting the pieces of a puzzle together. As said before, he is surprisingly very intelligent as a detective and is capable of deducting things and solving cases with ease. While it's mostly "instinct", his suspicions are usually correct.

Due to his Crime Coefficient being high enough to consider him a latent criminal there is a streak of sadism and cruelty that flavours his personality in such a way that it blurs the line between good and bad. Despite being supportive to others with his words and unrelenting ability to show that he has full confidence in their individual abilities and choices, he shuts down and professes that were he not under supervision he would very well take a shot without hesitation. One moment he'll be quiet and calm, helping out a victim of bullying, and the next he'll be bullying the same person with a magnanimous smirk--taunting and ruthless, clearly enjoying himself--if just to prove one of his theories correct and force a reaction out of a suspected criminal.

On the other hand, while he shows obliviousness to the apparent charm he can afflict upon others, he very well knows how to use it to get himself favours; by appealing with politeness and a carefully planned smile he can get away with using others to tag along with his ideas--especially when he's bound to confinement from the outside world except when with an Inspector. Though he could very well use this for his own purposes of escape, he never does. He has a loyalty to his work that keeps him grounded at a personal level. That's the thing: his ultimate seriousness towards not just his job, but his own plan for a personal vendetta is what keeps him on the sane, neutral side of things.

Two sides of a coin, Kogami shows the versatility of conjuring two different facets to himself. He willingly gazed too long into the abyss and his Crime Coefficient became clouded because of it. Having being an Investigator then turning into an Enforcer, his persona runs between both extremes--the polite, sincere, hard-working law-abiding worker and the cocky, merciless criminal lusting for chaos. It makes for an interesting configuration, one which meshes curiously with Kogami's low-key yet attentive attributes to get what he wants and get the job done.

Abilities/Powers: Being a former Inspector, Kogami is capable of solving cases quite effectively with little difficulty. He has a skill which has since been forbidden by Sybil (the system that runs the entire city, promoting and eliminating factors that might affect a person's Crime Coefficient either negatively or positively)--that ability being profiling. It is considered to be the old school way of doing things as an Inspector, as it relies heavily on instinct and thinking like a criminal, something that would cloud a person's Psycho-Pass (reading of crime coefficient) to "incurable" levels. While this is often not approved by current Inspectors and the system, as a former Inspector and current Enforcer, Kogami uses this instinct-based skill to its full capacity, which in retrospect allows him to measure out circumstances with near hundred percent accuracy. He can easily read others too and be able to perceive what others are feeling, though he is not likely to blurt it out for the sake of showing offthey are like (though he is likely to keep quiet about his own assumptions). This ability can also be attributed to the fact that he scored the country's highest points in the training school's exam, implying that he is much smarter than the average man.

Most of the powers shown in canon are from the weapons and online system the characters are given access to. As a recognised Enforcer by the Bureau, Kogami is capable of using a weapon called Dominator; this is a gun that holds no bullets. It has a lock mechanism where it won't respond to anyone not authorised to wield it, and it measures a person's Crime Coefficient, passing judgement as to whether the person is not subject to be shot (the gun will lock and not allow shots to be taken), if they are subject to a paralyser (in order to bring them into custody), or if they are a target for lethal action (the gun will then shoot to kill, the shot making the body explode). Other functionalities of the Dominator fall on it being able to recognise organic from non-organic targets, thus being able to switch to a different kind of shot in order to completely destroy the non-organic target.

Considering, however, how a lack of the Sybil system will make the Dominator useless in Haven, this hold very little relevance--really--to Kogami's abilities. Nevertheless, while it is not a real gun, he is quite sure of himself and confident when holding a weapon like this, as he does not hesitate to target nor to shoot if he has to.

Kogami is also very insistent about training himself to his full-potential. His body is well toned and it only reflects the amount of time he puts on hand-to-hand combat training. He has been known for destroying the training bot dummies at the training hall and only breaking a sweat, even when these were at the toughest level. Needless to say his athletics are as top notch as his deduction skills are. He's a fast thinker and with an agile body he is able to keep up with sudden change of tactics or situations that give him little room to stop and think about what to do next.

Items/Weapons: His jacket, Dominator (a gun, though it won't work at all and will be nothing but a fancy paperweight), and a Psycho-Pass bracelet which, while non-functional, used to work as a communicator and locator device.

Personality: "(The darkness) isn't just the absence of light, but something malign and malicious, something you can touch and can touch you"

Alice Wake has a perpetual, and rather irrational fear of the dark. If the lights go out, she wont--can't--move; the darkness has a way of freezing her. This fear has evolved since being held so tightly in The Darkness' grasp. She has a better understanding of her fear, and now she has a logical reason for it. She can explain how it felt, how cold it was, how terrified she was, and the only reason she didn't succumb to her fear was because she could feel Alan there. She knew he was trying to save her, and that's the only reason she held on.

Her relationship with her husband, Alan Wake, has always been a bit strained, especially during the last two years of their relationship. She cares a great deal for him, loves him despite his self-destructive tendencies, but like any woman in a situation like that, she has trouble talking to him about their problems. Every time she'd try, he'd ignore her; it was like he wasn't hearing what she was saying, or he didn't care. It caused her a great deal of stress, but she didn't stop trying.

Alice is a stubborn, and caring woman (she has to be to be married to Alan, who has been quoted to be 'kind of a dick'). She does everything she can to help her husband get over his writer's block, even going as far as to talk him into going to Bright Falls under the guise of a vacation (when, in actuality, she was hoping that Dr. Emil Hartman would help him, and that the small town would give him something to write about). Her love for her husband is what keeps her going in the darkness, just as it's his driving force to save her; they have their problems, just like every relationship, but their problems are nothing when it comes to one another.

There are many things about Alice that are barely even touched upon in game, and we get to see a little more of her in the novel.  She has a good sense of humor, and tends to be very playful with her husband.  For her, Alan is just as much her best friend as he is her husband, and she takes great pride in their relationship.  Another point the novel makes is that Alice has only one real fear: the dark.  She can handle anything else thrown at her, even her husband when his mood plummets.

Aside from darkness and her husband, Alice is a photographer, and an exceptionally good one, as well. She takes pictures of everything, and is even the one who does the covers for all of Alan's books and promotional images. Her stubbornness (and general dislike for Barry Wheeler) shows through in one chapter, in which you play as Alan in the past. Alice states she's unwilling to change anything when it comes to Alan's covers and images just because Barry wants it done, especially due to the previous time she let him change something. She also firmly believes he's a bad influence on her husband, mostly due to the fact that he's the one that drags her husband from party to party, bringing him home early in the morning completely smashed. That's something that truly bothers Alice, mostly due to the fact that she finds it particularly bad for her husband and his creativity; it feels, to her, that he's hiding and Barry is encouraging it, and that's one of the most definitive reasons she isn't on good terms with Alan's agent.

Alice is there for the people she cares about, through thick & thin, good & bad. Of course, she's far from the perfect woman. She can be a little pushy, though it's generally for a good reason, but that probably doesn't stop it from getting annoying. She's also a bit of a workaholic, willing to push herself through all nighters to finish things in time. All in all, she's a stubborn, pushy, but good person who really just wants the best for her husband.

Abilities/Powers:  Alice is just an average human with no special powers, or magical abilities.  She is no doubt capable of defending herself if the situation calls for it, but no one will find her lifting a car up and tossing it at the nearest enemy, nor will anyone find her taking too many hits before she's down for the count. Normal. Human.

Items/Weapons:  Nothing.

Background/History:
http://typemoon.wikia.com/wiki/Merem_Solomon

A long time ago, when humans had just evolved into the form they are in these days, Gaia called for help from the other planets in the galaxy. These humans were destroying her land and killing her creatures and she was rather worried. The Moon answered Gaia's plea and created the True Ancestor vampires to feed on humans and keep them in check. Type Moon (the most powerful creature on the moon), also known as Brunestud of the Crimson Moon came to Earth in search of something interesting.

He was pretty fortunate in what he found. In a certain village, during humanity's tribal times, existed a 14 year old boy. This boy was a “Planet Terminal” and had an ability called “demonization” which allowed him to make manifest any creature a human could imagine. Because of this, the village people worshiped him. This worship was very gruesome because, to prevent him from leaving, they cut off the boy's arms and legs. Hearing of this boy, the Crimson Moon came to this village and set a decree. If they could imagine a powerful enough creature for the boy to bring to life that could defeat him, he would leave the village alone. If not, he would kill everyone.

The boy ended up bringing creature after creature to life at the villager's whims. They wished to live but none of the creatures they could imagine were powerful enough to destroy the Crimson Moon. He ended up wiping out the village and the poor boy died of exhaustion, bringing to life more creatures than he could handle. But the Crimson Moon enjoyed this ability, thought it was true art, and turned the boy into a vampire. When the boy came to, he ordered him to create four creatures to become his arms and legs. The boy did so and became the person we know as Merem Solomon.

Merem felt he owed a great debt to the Crimson Moon and followed him everywhere he went. He was immortal now so death was far beyond his realm. Unfortunately for him, Zelretch, the great Magus, got into an argument with the Crimson Moon. The Crimson Moon thought it would be a good idea to crash the moon into Earth and Zelretch pretty much disagreed entirely. After a long fight, Zelretch ended up being turned into a vampire and the Crimson Moon was defeated and killed.

The Crimson Moon, not wanting to lose his existence, placed shards of himself into two of his ancestors; Arcueid and Altrouge Brunestud. The two sisters were hardly concerned about who would be the real successor to the throne of “Type Moon” but Merem supported Arcueid as the real ancestor to the throne, unlike many of the other vampires that existed. Merem came to hate Altrouge as a false Princess and wanted nothing to do with her.

A great sorcerer named Roa came into existence after this. In the Church, he created an organization that would hunt down vampires called the Burial Organization. This was the human's first offensive against the race that had plagued them for so long. Seeing the problem, Merem offered his services to the Burial Organization. In return, he could study the artifacts that the Church kept in storage. They snapped up this deal, knowing that they were just using the old vampire. Merem knew he was being used but, in return, he used the Church. He wanted to study history and that's what he got.

Eight hundred years ago, Roa did something rather devious. He tricked Arcueid into turning him into a vampire. Arcueid went insane and Altrouge was forced to defeat her. Then as she went to face off against Roa, she was pounded into the ground by the sorcerer's magic and new vampire abilities. Merem came to appreciate Roa for this victory against Altrouge but Arcueid, after recovering, quickly sought to kill Roa. After eighteen reincarnations, Roa was finally permanently killed by Tohno Shiki.

Some period of time after this, Ciel, one of Merem's co-workers, is given what is considered a suicide mission. Merem, eager to see Ciel's want to live but urge to die, tagged along. He even ate the person who was supposed to be Ciel's partner so he could be given the spot to join. Unfortunately, their target ended up being more powerful than Merem imagined and he ended up being temporarily injured. Cue Ciel dragging him back so he could quickly heal up.

After this, all the other vampires started to conspire against Arcueid. After all, if they acted up, she would kill them. Merem was against this movement among the other vampires and preferred to assist Arcueid behind the scenes. And that, unfortunately, brings up to the end of the story. If and when Tsukihime 2 comes out, we'll get more information.

Character Name: Cesare Borgia
Canon: Cesare [ MANGA ]
Canon Point: post-chapter 48 / Draghignazzo’s… forcible ‘defection.’
Background/History: you can find the basics of the series here - while not completely faithful, it’s keeping within the acceptable limits of marital bliss with historical accuracy.

To cut things short: up to chapter 48, the manga gives us a Cesare Borgia who’s whiling away his sixteenth year at Pisa: he’s a busy little homicidal bee, having to earn his doctorate in Theology / Canon Law, while trying to sow the seed of future political gain by turning his peers into potential Borgia allies. On the rare occasion when the right stars align and Cesare recalls that the University of Pisa actually wants him to attend class, he does it pretty much only to play at minor politics within the regional organizations run by the heirs of the main powers ruling the Italy of his day (both fellow nationals and foreigners).

In particular, we see him trying to help-intimidate-lure-seduce (…all of these at once?) fellow student Giovanni de Medici into earning cardinalship, so that the Borgia might eventually enjoy another helping hand on the Papal voting conclave. Along his merry way, he invests a little in bribing, smooth talking, or outright recruiting from among the outcasts / weaker links of some of the other university cliques factions. This would be how he ends up “befriending” and later protecting the Florentine Angelo da Canossa, who is at Pisa courtesy of his family’s Medici patrons, and who should, by right, be kissing every part of Giovanni de Medici’s boots and anatomy.

At the beginning of the manga, the Pisa politics scene features only a handful of way too wine-loving actors that Cesare tries (and often, fails) to coerce into a semblance of action: Raffaele Riario, cardinal, leading faculty member, and relative of Giuliano della Rovere, who is in turn both an enemy to the Medici and Rodrigo’s chief rival for the Papacy; Giovanni de Medici, Lorenzo’s pride and very, very ukeish joy, who is hoping to receive his doctorate and a pass to cardinalship from Riario’s greedy hands; and the Dominican Order, mostly there to troll everyone on Savonarola’s behalf. Rodrigo sort of thrusts Cesare in the middle of this mayhem with a very nebulous instruction manual: live with Riario, favour the Medici, get them back on speaking terms so to spite della Rovere, profit. How Cesare’s meant to do this, Rodrigo’s far too late to his next orgy appointment to say.

Meanwhile, della Rovere turns out to be just the littlest bit miffed with Rodrigo’s meddling and decides to sic Riario and members of the Borgia-loathing Dominican Order on Cesare, before Spanish Lecher Jr. can earn his own cardinal hat and start closely assisting his father. While you sort of know you haven’t made it in Renaissance Italy until someone’s commissioned assassins against you, Cesare takes the expected offence that he isn’t targeted for his own merits, as much as to send his father a memo. After a number of attempts against his best cloaks, his curtains, and his head, he decides to take things personally and to actually go about his father’s business.

Cesare’s scheme for bringing peace, prosperity and a couple of white doves in the Riario-Medici liaison ends up being quite simple: under Medici supervision, a new textile factory will be built on land acquired from Riario, with both thus earning popular acclaim. The entire project will, of course, be sponsored by the Borgia, out of the sheer goodness of their black little hearts. Like many a Mean Girls nerdy side character, Riario is so very happy to be included in something, for a change, that he immediately embraces the Borgia, the Medici, and whatever fleas they may have brought with them. While at it, he also mentions della Rovere’s plans against Cesare, and helps secure another Papal vote for Rodrigo from della Rovere’s own brother.

All seems to be going Just As Planned, until the fine night when a group of ~ mysterious men ~ conveniently dressed up like Dominican monks set fire to the factory construction site. Since this makes waste of quite a few resources and hours of political wheedling, Cesare undertakes an investigation with the tact, restraint and moderation that will so eloquently define him later on life: he wants the culprits culled.

By the canon point from which I’m picking him, Cesare’ll have found, crushed, killed, and destroyed the ones responsible for the factory debacle, secured a solid alliance between Riario and the Medici, and earned himself roughly 2.6(6) concussions, manually delivered to him from Francia, with love.

[personal profile] sobranie 2013-01-17 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality:

Don’t let Cesare’s initial cute and cuddly ways fool you: behind the frivolous smiles, the Disney princess curls, and the 200 lbs of mink fur nobly sacrificed for his cape du jour lie… more smiles, curls and completely gratuitous furs. Behind those, however, is one of the sharpest minds of his era, dutifully & frequently exercised in the name of all that is manipulative wrongdoing. Cesare intelligence isn’t purely academic, as much as it is human - he understands men, how they are likely to act, why, when, and where. His capacity for strategy is fundamentally personal: he never thinks of events in isolation, but always of who might take an interest in the goings on and in their outcome, of how person X’s doing might affect Y’s welfare, how Y in turn might choose to act against Z in direct consequence.

His classical, academic intelligence, while also inspiring, is significantly more determined by the side of the bed on which he wakes up on a particularly gory morning: on the one hand, he’s sufficiently arrogant to only attend classes when he so pleases, and to think a number of his esteemed professors bloody well stupid; on the other, he will always, always take five to fangirl the likes of Leonardo da Vinci, and he has been caught on a number of occasions Oooohing and Aaaaahing over the strategy records of conquerors of old. In spite of the custom that a lord’s opinion should go unquestioned, he allows public challenges in debate – admittedly, more often because he enjoys publicly shaming an adversary by way of rhetoric, than because he genuinely cares about what someone else might have to say.

Like with everything else in his life, Cesare partially attends to his wit because he derives some use from it – he calls on history and oratorical artifice for all and any smooth talking purposes, and he carefully cultivates the illusion that he is all charm, all grace, all gallantry. This and his air of sheer, unyielding confidence is part of what has attracted and tamed the countless cronies at his side. It may or may not be also what choreographed them: the simplest threat against Cesare, and they rise with their swords bared; the wave of the master’s hand, and they take their seat. Even Michelotto, his childhood friend, confidant and closest critic, casually remarks that he’s well and prepared to take down every one of Cesare’s enemies with his own two hands. Befitting his Evil Overlord status, Cesare is sadly not as quick to repay his men’s loyalty with gratitude, often sacrificing their time, their welfare, or their lives, on the premise that since they’ve chosen to dedicate themselves to him, they should lie back, think of England Italy and put up with his whims.

This apparent need to rationalise his “idgaf” reaction about commanding, overseeing, or carrying out murder and mutilation doesn’t stop there. Over time, Cesare becomes increasingly fond of explaining that, you know, it’s all very terribly sad that the people of whose good will or ignorance he’s taken advantage had to suffer – but really, they brought it upon themselves, because they chose to show themselves weak or kind around him of their own will. So, this just in: if Cesare Borgia gets you socially ruined, disfigured, or killed, you had it comin’. You had it coming all along. Hilariously, this attitude underlines the unfortunate reality that man of reason & steel though Cesare Borgia might want himself to be(come), even he is currently unprepared to acknowledge the means to which he has to go in order to achieve his ends.

In terms of his personal relations, Cesare’s so far shown himself capable of two types of friendship: one is forged in, and after a point, by ignorance, with people like Angelo and his sister, Lucrezia, whom he goes to great lengths to protect both from the world and from his own nature; secondly, there’re bonds like the one he’s formed with Michelotto, whom he spares not an ounce of his cruelty and selfishness, but whose enduring loyalty Cesare also repays through a number of extreme and even self-damaging gestures. As the story progresses, it becomes increasingly clear that all the polishing in the world won’t keep this white knight’s armour bloodless, and Cesare starts to emotionally distance himself from those who don’t know, or are unlikely to accept the ‘real’ him.

His interaction with Michelotto is a fairly competent reflection of the selfishness that governs Cesare: he is oddly, viciously loyal to his bee-eff-eff, up to promising him the corpses of the Dominicans who have oppressed or looked down upon him for being a Jew. He fights Henri of Marseille largely for Michelotto’s honour, for all that he later tsuntsuns, claiming the deed was done purely because he’d ~ felt like it. But for all his ‘concern’ for defending or avenging his best friend, Cesare never once takes a decision that might benefit Michelotto and Michelotto only. Tellingly, he deigns to allow his friend the opportunity to leave him and seize a more promising life devoid of religious discrimination in the New World – but this generosity only manifests itself after Michelotto has publicly and irrevocably refused the offer. Likewise, even people like Angelo, who only wish to hero worship at Cesare’s feet, are primarily treated as vehicles of future plans: yes, senpai notices Angelo, but only after the good boyo reveals himself to be close to the Medici, thus having the potential to serve as a spy on Giovanni and on his fellow Florentines. Cesare might have issues with real friendship but never with discovering its benefits.

Beyond his… sociopathic tendencies, Mr. Borgia the Younger is not much unlike what you’d expect of the average, spoiled and very competitive sixteen year-old: he enjoys riding, bad puns, skipping class, drinking, (hopelessly) flirting with mature women, and reminding his elders that he too is a man already – a man!!! On top of that, he’s very, very curious, which sometimes leads to Guinness worthy records for the depth to which he shoves both feet down his mouth, when he asks questions with an indiscretion that verges on cruelty.

Personality: Sayaka is kind, courageous and dedicated-- all qualities anyone would expect from someone willing to take on the role of a 'hero of justice'. To scratch the surface, to most, she initially appears as a loud, cheerful, somewhat tomboyish young girl like any other up to (and including) rather poor grades and a tendency to fall asleep in her classes. She cares deeply for those close to her, willing to do just about anything to keep them from harm's way, even if it involves putting herself at risk.

Although her personality seems rather light-hearted at first glance, Sayaka is marked by a deep idealism that affects more than just her morals. Her world view is incredibly stark-- there is good and there is bad and, as far as she's concerned, nothing in between. Everything she does is touched by this ideology and there is no one she judges more harshly by it than herself. For all her joking and smiles, Sayaka is honestly insecure in her own skin and has difficulty living with herself when she can't match up to the standards she sets for herself and the world around her.

She's hopelessly rash, often leaping into situations and only considering the ramifications once it's too late to turn back. Sayaka is quite capable of being logical and surprisingly insightful and reflective-- in most situations, however, she lets her heart lead her head. Coupled with an incredible sense of stubbornness and righteousness, you have a young girl who is liable to get herself in over her head with despairing ease. Tied with her bull-headed nature, her mind is incredibly difficult to change once it's made up, especially concerning her initial perceptions of people.

Her idea of a what it means to be a hero of justice, her ideal, is rather warped-- a hero isn't selfish, they save people, they do good things purely because they are good while expecting no rewards. But real life is full of grey areas and for better or worse, all human beings hold some degree of selfishness-- Sayaka being no exception. She can't face up to the fact that she'd like some degree of admiration for her good deeds; being selfish is bad, and her turbulent meeting with fellow magical girl Kyouko Sakura only compounds this. Kyouko is everything that she considers to be bad and evil, allowing Familiars to attack innocent people purely for her own gain. She can't be selfish like that, so therefore she pushes herself to be a better magical girl despite all her inexperience. Because she has to be, really, after building such a grand notion of who she wants to be it's impossible to accept that she's just a normal girl. A normal girl who is in far over her head.

Truly, at her core, Sayaka means well-- she does want to help people and she is entirely sincere in her ideals. However, the starkness of her outlook can easily lead to disillusionment and her own undoing. Put best by Homura, "With kindness comes naïveté. Courage becomes foolhardiness. And dedication has no reward. If you can't accept any of that, you are not fit to be a Magical Girl."

Abilities/Powers: As a magical girl, there are several abilities that are innate-- enhanced strength and agility once transformed, the ability to communicate telepathically with other magical girls, as well as the pretty costume and weaponry trimmings one comes to associate with the term. Her combat abilities are melee based, her main weapon being swords which she can summon in any number-- either to use conventionally or as projectiles. Due to the nature of her wish (to heal the hand of her crush, Kyousuke Kamijou) Sayaka is granted additional healing abilities, able to heal herself near-instantly during battle (and, as shown in The Different Story, heal others with some effort).

Items/Weapons: One shiny soul gem (to remain in her possession at all times, usually as a ring) and one change of clothes.

[personal profile] sixfaced 2013-01-18 07:02 am (UTC)(link)
Background/History: the live play, tv tropes. There's no specific page on Junko's involvement in Dangan Ronpa, and it's a bit ridiculous to ask to read the LP, so I'll be providing a summary! While Junko plays a very big role in all the installments of Dangan Ronpa, her primary and most notorious one is in the original game itself.

Living her life in Despair, Junko Enoshima and Mukuro Ikusaba were close as any pair of sisters could be, and it showed through the way they rightfully stood by each other and dealt with each other as time went on. Instead of falling into the despair, they embraced it, and soon Junko's mind became rather clouded and twisted with different ideas from the normal girl putting on her makeup. Realizing the cruelty and reality of the world at a young age, there's no doubt in her mind that there's just something about it that tickles her fancy. They conspired, and eventually formed Super High School Level Despair. Which is an organization that's often feared for much more than its name, it's clear what their motives are, and it's Despair.

While the details aren't exactly stated, it's the people in SHSL Despair that make with the Worst, Most Despair-Inducing Incident in the History of Mankind possible, ultimately being the Despairification of Mankind-- a plan concocted by the Despair Sisters. This incident is what drives the students and specifically, Junko's classmates, into hiding at Hope's Peak Academy until it all blew over and everything settled. They sealed themselves inside, agreeing to remain as humanity's last hope for as long as they live and to never leave. These fifteen students were unlucky enough to be locked in with Junko and her sister, more than likely because they were the ones being subjected to the game of murder. The instigator behind everything, disguised as "Monobear", Junko rallied the students to kill one another with crucial and distinct motives  with the promise of leaving.

But there was more than just that, as with each murderer has to bear, they proceed with a trial to determine who the killer is once a body is discovered. Once the murderer is found, they are executed in front of their friends with a method customized only for them.

Though, if they were all friends how could they so easily switch on each other? The answer is simple, as Junko had given them some form of memory loss in order to forget their friendships they made before it all, making them complete and utter strangers. And because they were all now "strangers", it was easy for Mukuro to disguise as her sister and become "Super High School Level Fashion Girl". Not long had passed before "Junko Enoshima" had assaulted Monobear after the first murder. Because of that, she had been pierced with several spears, killing her as an example for the rest of the students. From then on, Junko manipulated and coaxed the rest of the students to further participate in this game, murdering their companions and suffering the worst kind of despair through the lies and mistrust they placed upon themselves. She had to push them, first to recruit those who believed in the cause, and second to draw in those who opposed her to gun them down at the gates of the school.

Eventually, the murdering ceases, and the ever watchful eye of Enoshima doesn't like the pause in what they're doing. She eventually takes matters into her own hands, putting some sense into those bastards by crushing their little laptop to merciless bits. Since it's hard to keep secrets in a place ridden with security cameras! At some point she took it upon herself to personally knock Naegi utterly unconscious as he was snooping in the bathroom, disguised perfectly, and even assaulting him when he was bedridden. It was his luck that saved him, and because of that luck the desecration of Mukuro's body came into play. From what seems to be no real respect for the dead, Junko, for the final case of the Mastermind and the murderer of Junko Enoshima (later to be agreed upon as Mukuro Ikusaba), used her sister's body as the key ingredient for everything. It was a minefield, and it brought the real Junko out of hiding when she was caught in the middle of the trial following the discovery of the corpse.

During the trial she acknowledged defeat but found no comfort in leaving the secrets they couldn't figure out unsolved, and guided them along the way before she provided an ultimatum: Execute Naegi, or risk the air purification to shut off and be forced to leave by picking Junko? With their hope renewed by Naegi's proclamations, they all mutually agreed upon Junko's death and she merrily dove into her own execution, ending the game of murder with her suicide.

Character Name: Luke fon Fabre
Canon: Tales of the Abyss
Canon Point: right after he and Asch neutralize the miasma in the Tower of Rem.
Background/History: wikia.

Personality: Luke was a very selfish, conceited brat.

Though I really wouldn't go off and say that he was completely at fault for that? For you see he was kidnapped when he was younger. They were able to find him eventually, but when they did, he couldn't remember anything. In fact he didn't even know how to walk, write, read, or talk. Heck he couldn't even put names to his parents faces. He was basically a blank slate. Everything he had to relearn was left to the various maids and servants in the Fabre household. Of course they were under the influence that he would eventually get better as time went on, but.... he didn't. And because of that, he now lacks a basic understanding on simple things that one would consider to be common knowledge. For example he lacks an understanding in geography, politics, history and language.

He was also forbidden by his uncle (the King of Kimlasca) to leave the manor he lived in. He couldn't even step out into the kingdom and roam around Baticul (which is where he lives). This was to ensure that another kidnapping could never happen. However, because of this he became extremely sheltered. He lacked real life experience. Tie that in with not knowing how the real world worked and basically having everything handed to you, you can see how this kind of lifestyle would go to someone's head. He's so used to being handed things left and right that when he gets to Engave for the first time he takes an apple and doesn't pay for it. When the vendor asks for the money he basically waves him off and tells him that the castle will take care of it.

Luke was also extremely arrogant. He's the son of the duke of Kimlasca. What more was there to say? A good thing about his confidence (for now at least) was that he had very little self-doubt. He could do no wrong, or at least that's what he thought. And when something did happen, he'll find a way to pin the blame on to someone else. He was very prideful too. When he realized that he made a mistake or said something hurtful his pride stopped him from trying to apologize or fix whatever he did. Of course he was generally sorry about it (especially if he hurt someone's feelings), but he wouldn't ever vocalize it.

He's not used to interacting with other people excluding his family's servants and maids. But they can't really call him out on his spoiled behavior, unless they want to lose their job. So when he acted like this around the others he always wondered why they would react so negatively to his spoiled behavior. He's not really used to criticism either. He was also terribly lazy and wouldn't do anything unless it struck his interest or benefited him in one way or the other. He constantly skipped his tutoring lessons, but whenever Van (his swordsmaster) was in town he was always eager for a new lesson. In fact, all he ever really cared about during his little excavation with Tear and the others was how badly he wanted to go home. Even if he knew how boring it can get being stuck in the manor all day with nothing to do.

All of this changes at the fall of Akzeriuth. And oh, did I forget to mention that Luke's a clone? 'cause he is. The real reason why Luke was kidnapped was so Van could overthrow the score (which is something that basically predicts your future) by sacrificing a replica of Luke. The original Luke (who now goes by Asch the Bloody) was supposed to die at Akzeriuth. Of course the cloned Luke was never told of this. So when he found out that he wasn't the real Luke his confidence was knocked down by a couple of pegs. And by a couple I mean a lot. Digressing, Luke was tricked into thinking that if he got rid of the poisonous gas that was harming Akzeriuth he would be considered a hero. He's very gullible when it comes to people he trusts. If Master Van says it'll be okay then it should be okay! He won't question it, even if it sounds a little risky. Master Van knows what he's doing after all. He's wise and is someone Luke idolizes. He looks up to Master Van. And even through all of his treachery Luke still views the man as his master. Sure it takes a while for Luke to realize that his plan to create a world full of replicas is bad, but that still doesn't stop him from wanting acknowledgment on his growth.

After recovering from killing thousands of innocent lives, Luke resolves to change his selfish ways. He realizes that he will never make up for what he's done and that no matter how many times he apologizes it will never bring back the people of Akzeriuth. He knows that he's going to have to work super hard to regain everyone's trust, but he's willing and committed to be put to the test. He asks Tear, who was the only one who had stayed in Yulia City, to watch him change. He also immediately takes Guy's advice and chooses to focus on helping people out instead of wallowing about in despair. This in turn might cause him to be a little overeager at times, oftentimes taking things a little too seriously and rushing out to an area he hardly knows how to get to. He's extremely determined to right his wrongs and he won't back down from it either.

He's still a little curious about everything but he can't really help that. At least he's more accepting of someone's answers than he was before. He also owns up to the fact that he's at fault for what he's done. And, more importantly he gives apologies when do. Pride be damned. He's still unfortunately easy to fluster and rile up though.

He's also very considerate for his team-- no, his friends. Hell he even goes through great lengths to not tell his mother about the maid who foolishly threw out Van's old arte books because he doesn't want to see her to lose her job. He constantly worries over the miasma (the poisonous gas mentioned above that was in Akzeriuth) that's inside Tear's body and will always ask her if she's alright about fighting her brother, Van. He cares deeply for Natalia despite how annoying she might be (or might have been). He was the one who said that it'd be better to tell her who her birth father was instead of keeping her in the dark like everyone else suggested. He also realizes the importance of breaks when Ion is near collapse. He even does his best to cheer Anise up after Ion dies.

Going back to the clone issue, Luke's kind of developed a inferiority complex. He's very self-conscious now and all the cockiness and arrogance he had before have practically diminished. He constantly puts himself down a lot too. He feels extremely bad for taking someone else's life. He wasn't even supposed to be born and here he is living someone else's life. From the canon point he's taken from he hasn't quite yet grasped the concept that he and Asch are two separate and different people. He gets angry at Asch when the other wants to throw away his life when he's the one who shouldn't be here. He'd rather die if it meant that Asch could live. Or... so he thought anyway. When he was sacrificing himself to neutralize the miasma all he could think about was how he wanted to live. He didn't want to die yet.

Abilities/Powers: Luke is one of two people that can cause a hyperresonance all on his own. A hyperresonance happens when two seventh fonists use their abilities to tear apart and then reconstruct the fonons in an object. Normally it takes two seventh fonists to cause a single hyperresonance. It is also a rather dangerous ability as it normally cannot be controlled. I don't really see Luke using this power much at all in haven since there aren't any fonons for him to use except for the ones he has in his body. Of course it also takes a lot of energy out of the user and Luke isn't really in the position to lose said energy. From the canon point he's taken from, he'll disappear if he uses another hyperresonance.

Aside from this, Luke is also a swordsman in training studying the Albert-style. He was undergoing lessons with Master Van before the game started. As he traveled with the others he learned various different fighting techniques called artes. He's the kind of fighter that chooses to focus on more damaging techniques than to emphasize on combos.

Items/Weapons:Nebilim (the catalyst sword), the Jewel of Lorelei, and a couple of lemon and pineapple gels? (lemon gels heals a moderate amount of HP and pineapple gels heals a moderate amount of TP, which is the stuff that allows Luke to cast artes.)

I'm a-okay with making the gels candies if you don't want them to have their healing components.

Sample Entry: Okay there's no way this-- wherever I am is apart of Auldrant. It's too.... different? No... Empty? [he shakes his head. finding a word to describe this place isn't as important as getting out of here is.] I can't even contact Asch either. [not... that he really knew how to get in touch with his original in the first place. since the god-general usually got in touch with him, but that's beside the point-] Well whatever this place is, it's definitely not home. Mohs is going to pay if he's the one who's behind this.

[Luke looks down at the device curiously as he pokes the different buttons.]

What is this thing anyway? Some kind of fontech? [he snickers a little to himself as he lowers the phone.] I wonder where Guy is. I bet he'd get a kick out of.... whatever this thing is-- and... Hey, wait why is it blinking?

[upon further inspection he realizes that there's a small blinking light on the corner side of the phone. from his experience blinking things aren't generally a good thing, are they? he frantically looks around in hopes that he'd be able to flag at least one person down to help explain what this thing was and why it was blinking at him. unfortunately, luck was not on his side. so he does the first thing that comes to his mind. he tosses the blinking device to the side and accidentally into the well next to him.

oops.

so, okay. he totally didn't mean to do that.]

Wait no I didn't mean to do that--

Sample Entry Two: Luke sighed as he slowly, but carefully, pulled the heavy bucket full of delicious looking water up with the rope that was attached to the well. Well, it's not like he could actually see that the water was delicious looking since it was quite a ways down from where he stood. But, he could only assume that it was delicious looking. After all it looked quite delectable when his roommates came back from their different trips with buckets full of fresh water. Though, if there was one thing he was sure of, was the fact that this water was definitely better than any of the sludge he tromped through back home. And, he didn't have to pay any gald to drink out of it either!! Although he... didn't really have any gald on him so it's... not like that that's a good point to bring up here of all places.

Bucket finally in sight and eyes gleaming with delight he heaved it over and sat it on the ground. Not really in the mood to wait he cupped his hand and dipped it into the cold water. After that he brought his hand to his mouth and drank happily from i--

PTCHEW.

As soon as the "liquid" hit the back of his throat he instantly spat it out. That-- what? What the heck was going on here? Why did the water taste like mud and sludge and-- oh no. Eyebrows furrowed, Luke looked to and fro the bucket and the well. Something must have happened over the span of the day for the well to have muddy sludge back-river funk water. Maybe it was some kind of prank? Grimacing at the thought, Luke couldn't help but give the little trickster(s) some props. It took talent to make the well that dirty.

Character Name: Katara
Canon: Avatar: The Last Airbender
Canon Point: Book 3: Fire ( Chapter 8: The Puppet Master )
Background/History: Wiki

Personality: Katara can be really domineering at times, such as right after they had joined up with Toph Bei Fong and she in Katara's eyes would not "carry her own weight". She actually did! She carried her own things and earth-bended her own tent. But the lack of I think would be more of a willingness to help irked her to the point where the two got into a fight over it. The two didn't make up with out intervention from the others. It's like she can some times take mothering her friends to an extreme where they feel overly coddled and babied by her. And she also happens to have a nasty temper, evidenced again in that scene and many others across the series. The former stems from her strong maternal side, which developed after the Fire Nation killed her mother.

She was very young when this happened, and she was forced to grow up faster than she should have in order to fill the missing role in the family. Things like chores and cooking had to become her top priority. It also gave her the bad habit of being a nag, which tends to annoy her friends. She can go on and on until some one tells her to shut it. Some times even then she can hang on to the belief that she is right and every one else should do what she thinks is best.

That raid has left her with one huge case of the grudge. She can hang on to things for years and blame an entire country/culture of people for what a comparative handful had done. This is especially apparent in her dealings with Prince Zuko. At the end of Book 2: Earth, she had tried to trust in him and almost used the sacred water from the spring in the North Pole to heal the scar on his face. Only to watch him turn around and betray that fragile trust by turning on his own Uncle and the Avatar gang to team up with Azula to capture Aang. Needless to say, that incident has only magnified her anger.

That being said, she is still one of ( if not the most ) mature members of the gang. She gets things done, takes care of every one, and has only ever put herself 1st in a really big way in Boo 1: Water when she was jealous of Aang for how easily water bending came to him after they located a scroll with some new moves. This mellowed out once they arrived at the North Pole and both ( eventually ) came to be students of Master Pakku. She is able to adapt and grow up.

She has an incredibly strong sense of right and wrong, and will do what ever it takes to stand up for her beliefs. No matter what she risks or who ends up being offended. Her sense of compassion and right and wrong is such that she would stay behind if a village were in trouble ( or in another case delay the trip and fake being a River Spirit ) to help people in need. Katara has also publicly called out a respected and revered water-bending master on sexism in front of the Chief of his tribe and taken him out side to show him that women don't just belong in healing tents. If a cause is just, she will stand up for it alone if necessary and do what ever she can to right what she perceives as wrongs.

So under all the over-bearing motherly stuff, she is a genuinely nice girl and definitely some one to have on the right side of a fight. And despite not participating in the antics her friends constantly take part in, she does show a sense of fun and humor! She is more than willing to go penguin sledding with Aang and even has a dry come back to some of the jokes that get thrown back and forth among the group. Especially with Sokka, she can be a little sarcastic, but never malicious. And when she is in the wrong, eventually she does come around and apologize. Some times even with out being prodded to first!

Katara is a little complicated, but she's only 14 and has a lot of room to change her perception of things and grow as a person.

Katara | Avatar: The Last Airbender | Reserved | Pt 2/2

[personal profile] pulling 2013-01-18 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Abilities/Powers:
"The fighting style of waterbending is mostly fluid and graceful, acting in concert with the environment. Waterbenders deal with the flow of energy; they let their defense become their offense, turning their opponents' own forces against them."

♒ Water Bending
By a strong connection to the spirits of the Ocean and Moon, water-benders have the hypdrokinetic power to manipulate and control water in any state.

As a water-bender, Katara can use her element offensively or defensively as needed, completely in-tune with the environment. She can turn it to ice, a shield, use it to move or destroy objects, and many other things. The moves necessary to channel this power are based in tai' chi and are slow and graceful to mirror the fluidity of water.

She does not necessarily need to have an ocean or river to bend. Katara has been able to use her own sweat when needed. As of the end of her training under Master Pakku of the Northern Water Tribe, she has been deemed a Master of bending this element.

Her power is strongest during the night of the full moon.

❀ Plant Bending
Katara can extract and manipulate the water from within plant life to bend when no obvious sources of water are around.

☽ Blood Bending
Hama forced her to learn this skill against her will. It's a lot like Blood Magic in Dragon Age, because the bender manipulates the blood inside a person and control their actions like a puppet. The other person is awake and aware during this, but helpless to move on their own. Katara hates this ability, and will only ever use it if lives are seriously at stake. Maybe not even in that case.

Things would need to be very dire before she would consider it.

☤ Healing
With water-bending and the ability to manipulate the chi paths through out the human body, Katara is able to heal any physical wound that is not mortal or fatal in severity.

And it is worth knowing that she is very agile and quick on her feet. She can go with the flow and deal with change fairly easily, too. Her ability to think on her feet and adjust in tight situations has saved her skin more than once.

She is also a capable midwife if any one has a baby.

Items/Weapons:
Gran-Gran's betrothal necklace
Her usual clothing
A waterskin full of water

Sample Entry: Aang? Toph? Sokka? You guys have to be hiding around here some where! Come on out now, playtime's over. By now we all know that we have to stick together. Bad things happen when we split up.

[ here goes another lecture, katara style! ]

Seriously, we need to figure out what's going on. We, not me.

I refuse to do all the work! You are all going to help.

[ she huffs, and crosses her arms over her chest. ]

If you don't hurry back soon, I will some how arrange it that you'll only have ocean kumquats to eat for a very, very long time.

Sample Entry Two: This city seemed to be nothing more than a dried husk of what it had once been. Like every village she'd seen destroyed by the Fire Nation and deserted, the life had been sucked completely from the very foundations of its buildings. The lights were on, but only those who had been kidnapped like her were home. Katara felt a sense of uneasiness creep down her spine, causing her to shiver. Facing the Unknown was so much easier with her brother, Aang and Toph by her side.

She knew that she could handle herself. That wasn't the problem. Being from a tight-knit community had left her with a dislike of being alone. There was no one she knew to mother or lecture or even just sit around a campfire with. But she was hardly alone. All around her were people, as displaced from their lands as she was. And there wasn't really any doubt that they could use a hand in a place like this.

"It looks like there's work to be done here."

Katara stood, and planted her hands firmly on her hips. She had better get started! And she knew just where she would begin. Along the wall of one of the nearby buildings were some empty barrels. What ever they had been used for now, they were going to be re-purposed. With a fluid movement, Katara lifted what little snow there was on the ground, and weaved it through the air. She used her power to bend it into liquid form, and shifted forward to direct it toward the 1st of the barrels. It was going to be some work, but by the time she was finished, the snow would be mostly gone and the town would have a reserve supply of water in case the well ever ran dry.

It might not seem like much, but she was proud of herself.

azmaria hendric - chrono crusade - no reservation

[personal profile] chhabeela 2013-01-18 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality: The girl with the kind, gentle smile has a depths to her appearances wouldn't immediately betray.

Her soft disposition and timidity have a great deal to do with the experiences endured in her childhood and upbringing since; she was a very sickly child until she was visited by an 'Angel'; her powers as an Apostle were awakened and granted her the ability to heal those around her through song. They came at a price, however; misfortune befell everyone she grew close to. It began with her parents, who died during the first World War -- and Azmaria traveled from Portugal to the United States afterwards. Her time with a band of touring musicians were some of the best of her life and fostered many pleasant memories for her, as well as solidifying her fondness toward music; however...

Her Apostle abilities were discovered by a man named Ricardo Hendric, who adopted her for the sole purpose of abusing her abilities as an Apostle to revive his wife, Melda, from the dead. She had been killed during the war -- and he intended to manipulate Azmaria's ability to tap into the Astral Line to bring her soul back to her. But in order to acquire her... the entire choir she had been living with and forming such happy memories beside, were killed by the demons Ricardo had tamed. His relationship with her was purely business; she was often caged up by her father and wasn't permitted to live much of a life at all -- it's because of being often left behind, used, or outcast by those surrounding her that she felt a deep sense of loneliness and helplessness. Weak, she didn't possess the will to fight for herself and believed that it was inevitable that if she grew close to people, she would bring about their suffering or lose them for the cycle to begin all over again next time.

Chrono and Rosette completely changed the way that Azmaria looked at the world. From the moment they came into her life, everything shifted; she had her eyes opened to what real friendship was like, and how to find strength of will, a will she absolutely admired-- perhaps even adored-- in her newfound companions. Rosette became a big sister model, someone she idolized and looked up to without a single doubt -- she aspired to become strong and capable like her, willing to walk into the future no matter what it held and not to be afraid or defeatist anymore. Taking the first step to those ends herself, she began training to become a full-fledged Exorcist on her own and entered the Magdale Order.

Even if she's become a stronger person who acknowledges her weaknesses and faults, striving to surpass them and grow as a person... she hasn't done so at the cost of her kind and generous heart. Azmaria is the Apostle of Charity, and for good reason -- she is always willing to help those around her, and loves seeing people smiling and happy. She likes cheering up her companions and despite the fact she's a child, she's able to give encouraging words and perseveres even in the face of danger, even going so far as putting on a smiling face to prevent burdening others with her troubles or fears. She might be scared, but she doesn't run away or allow herself to be overwhelmed, defeated, even in the face of monstrous enemies or frightening circumstances. To the contrary, she might be unnerved and uneasy by many circumstances, but she doesn't cave under the pressure. Instead, it merely makes her cautious and careful as she goes forward.

She holds a compassionate heart, and an empathetic one -- forms bonds with those around her easily even if she might be shy and often soft-spoken, and can be childish and playful when she's in trusted company. Despite being used and suffering greatly at the hands of others, it hasn't cost her to have any less faith in the goodness of others; she takes their words to heart, perhaps with some naivety, even still. It speaks to a desire to be accepted, loved, and told everything is going to be okay... that it's alright to be happy or sad or anything in between -- that she isn't alone.

Abilities/Powers: Azmaria is an Apostle -- an individual gifted with the ability to call upon the Astral Line. The Astral Line is the life force of everything, including the planet -- it can be equated to spiritual energy, in essence. When a soul dies, it returns to the Astral Line -- and when a life is created, a spirit is drawn from the Line again. This gifts her with the ability to call on the Line's power and manipulate it -- specifically through the gift of song to heal others of anything from superficial cuts and bruises to mending broken bones. The usage of this power comes with a price -- it temporarily drains the body of the Apostle which can be fixed with some rest, but suffers a curse; Azmaria, the Apostle of Charity, endures the curse of bringing misfortune to those who get close to her.
Items/Weapons: No notable possessions -- just some clothing.
Sample Entry: [the video function clicks on to show a timid girl adjusting the camera-- which, unfortunately, is side-ways and seems to be getting peered at quite quizzically. it's apparent Azmaria hasn't quite mastered modern technology.]

Excuse me? Um--

[she obscures the view of her face as she shifts her hold and her palm covers the camera, but her voice has gotten louder; she must be holding it against her face.]

This 'phone' is very interesting, but I don't think I understand... [there's creak of the mattress as she gets up from her bed, tentative footsteps following. she's clearly feeling out her new surroundings.] Shader? Did you leave this for me?

[...]

H- Hello? Can anyone hear me...?

[this really doesn't look like Kansas Eden anymore, does it... hm. maybe she would do better exploring a bit...?]

Sample Entry Two: There was one step, than two breaking the silence of the apartment corridors.

Azmaria hadn't seen anything quite like this. Even the impressive technology of Eden's floating city was quite different than the sort she was finding here... though it appeared in a very sorry state of disrepair. There was something in her chest, a little niggle of worry, not quite fear -- the sensation that something was wrong. She hadn't seen head nor tail of any of the Sinners, and wasn't that strange? If they had moved her somewhere, wouldn't they have told her why? No... maybe they wouldn't share that kind of information with her, even if Aion had seemed open with his plans for her, Joshua and the other Apostles taken captive.

She gently winds fingers into her sleeve, cautious as she peers into the stairwell and casting out a cautious call.

"Hello...?"

Only the sound of her own voice echoes back. It's empty; the disconcerting feeling increases. What if something had happened to them...? To the Sinners...

Even if they were 'bad people,' what if they were in trouble? They'd been kind to her, even if they had hurt so many innocent people in the city, assaulted her friends... what they'd done to Chrono and Rosette... What they had planned for this world... Is she wrong for being conflicted, unsure how she feels about all of this? It's not always black and white, she knows that -- but she also knows she doesn't understand everything. Chrono and the Sinners were complicated.

And so, apparently, is this. She takes a few small steps onto the stairs that creak quietly under soft footfalls.

Even if this quiet ghost town is intimidating, there has to be some kind of answer about why she's here, right? She has to find it. She can't hide, and she won't stand still. Like Rosette said -- it's time to look to the future and keep moving forward.

Re: Leon Kuwata - Not reserved

[personal profile] wrongtalented 2013-01-18 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality: In the game Dangan Ronpa, there is a school in Japan called Hope's Peak Academy, where only the most talented students in the country go. There are two qualifications to be be accepted into the school. Quoting from the game: "You must be currently enrolled at a high school" and "You must super-excel at your field of expertise". I say all that to say that Leon is a Super High School Level (hereafter shorted to SHSL) Baseball Player, and I can't explain his personality without explaining his sheer skill. He's the ace of the country's champion team, so good the pros took notice of him.

You couldn't tell it from looking at him though. Upon meeting him, he complains about his picture online, saying that the team made him shave his head, and he was never doing that or going back to his natural hair color again. He also says he doesn't like baseball, and he never goes to practice. He doesn't actually have to, he's that good.

See, Leon is both brilliantly talented  and hopelessly lazy. He says his dream is to be a punk rocker, and that's why he really came to the school (which guarantees success in your chosen field after graduation) , but it's later revealed that he just wants to be a musician to be famous and get girls. Specifically "that cute girl at the hair salon".Though this might be a pretty terrible reason to have a life goal, he has musician's equipment in his room at the school, so he does take it at least somewhat seriously. And by that I mean he asks Naegi if he knows anyone who plays instruments, because he wants to be the lead singer okay?

You learn this during his free time event, in which he slips and asks the protagonist if he wants to play baseball, which he claimed not to like at all. More than likely, he has a love/hate relationship with the sport he's not aware of, especially considering he says he's going to beg the coach to put him back on the team after he gets out of the school.

Although he's girl crazy and kind of blunt, he doesn't really come off as such during the events of the game for the most part. He's more casual and friendly, boggling at the . . . eccentricities of the rest of his classmates. (And to be far, they really are a pretty strange bunch). The one time this changes dramatically is after a tape is shown to motivate the students into killing one of their number, and during the end of the first trial, when he's found guilty of murdering a classmate, Sayaka Maizono. He's angry, and well, terrified for his life, because while murder is what the mastermind wants, the consequences for getting caught killing are dire. The consequences of not catching the killer are just as dire, but no one knows that until the start of the trial.

It's true, but it's not as clear cut as it seems. She set up a trap in an attempt to frame Naegi for murder, and sent him a note inviting him to her room at night. She was waiting with a knife, attacked him, and in the ensuing struggle he broke her wrist. When she locks herself in the bathroom, he breaks in and stabs her, showing an inability to just let the matter go. (It's notable in that the supplemental manga, his killing her was an accident.) Also, in her dying moments, she wrote his name on the wall in blood, but this completely escaped his notice.

In the end, he says he really didn't have a choice, though it's pointed out he could have just let her go after breaking her wrist. Under pressure, he seems to let his emotions get the best of him, but that's not so abnormal. In the end, he has to pay the price for his actions: he's executed by being chained to a post and essentially stoned to death with baseballs. The mastermind is a huge fan of irony, guys.

tdlr: Leon is a guy with lots of talent, who's serious about his punk appearance, and has a dearth of real motivation (besides the ladies). Despite this, he's more of a bro than anything else, unless you try to kill him. He's really not cool with the whole dying thing.

Abilities/Powers: He plays baseball at a world-class level. If that's a superpower then there you go! Also apparently he needs super hair dye, because he dyes his hair but canon doesn't say what his natural color is and I can't get icons for it. Whoops.
Items/Weapons: A baseball bat, a bloody baseball, an electronic student handbook
Sample Entry: [The voice on the phone sounds a bit frazzled, and rather pissed off too. He looks worse, covered in neon pink blood, almost like a zombie. How many shitty places could a guy end up?

The better question is if he's dreaming, or if this is some kind of messed up after-life, but it's not something he's really in a hurry to answer.]

Look, whatever this is, it's not fucking funny. I'm over all this crap that's out of a horror movie, and I'm done with crazy killer bears . . . [Of course, it's then he realizes he looks pretty crazy, and takes a breath. Not going to get any answers like that. Or help, and let's face it, he could use some help.] But seriously, if I could get some information for once? Kind of sick of being in the dark.

But I was serious about the bears. If I even see so much as a teddy bear I'm throwing it out.
Sample Entry Two: When it really clicks, he's holding a knife, staring at a dead body that had been a pretty hot girl just moments before. There was blood everywhere, on the wall, the floor, his clothes, and he can't stop shaking for anything. Why the fuck did she have to pull that? It was her fault, her fault, her fault this happened. He just did what anyone else would, right?

For a moment, he thinks about confessing, but that's no good. He didn't want this, but something good could come out of it. He could go home, get out of this damn school and back to his normal life. Sure, he'd be leaving the rest of them behind, and that sucked, but he couldn't stay here. He'd go crazy being behind these walls the rest of his life. Hell, maybe he'd already snapped.

Either way, just standing here wasn't going to help at all. No, he wasn't going to let this ruin him, even if all the blood was going to give him nightmares for the rest of his life. It was just like at the bottom of the ninth innin- no, what was he thinking about that for at a time like this?

Character Name: Izumi Miyamura (his first name is technically Izumi, but for the sake of… my sanity and OCD, I will be referring to him as “Miyamura” from here on out!)
Canon: Horimiya
Canon Point: chapter 10
Background/History:
Miyamura’s world is, thus far, no different from ours. The manga itself is classified as “school life/slice of life,” and focuses on the daily shenanigans and love lives of four seniors in high school. Despite the “shounen” status, there are no epic life-or-death battles with level ups and final bosses.

The manga’s two main protagonists are Miyamura Izumi and Hori Kyouko, both average teenagers whose alter egos are that of slightly less-than-average teenagers. Miyamura, despite his shady looks and withdrawn demeanor, is actually a warm and friendly boy that just so happens to be covered in piercings and tattoos. And Hori, for all her Miss Perfect persona in school portrays, is actually a busy homebody who has no real clue what it’s like to be an actual teenager because she’s too busy being a second mother to her younger brother. Both these sides of themselves they try hard to hide from others, afraid of their peers’ reactions and any potential backlash that such reveals might incur.

Despite this, Hori and Miyamura accidentally discover each other’s “secret lives” and, as a result, have been able to open their worlds up a little more, feeling safe and comfortable and themselves around each other.

For Miyamura, specifically, the manga focuses on his growth in terms of friendship. So far, the more romantic elements do not seem to be all that important to Miyamura. Instead, it is the fact that he has been able to finally find and be accepted by some of his peers that becomes the highlight of this journey for him. A simple boy of a simple family (his father owns a bakery and it is not yet revealed what his mother does), Miyamura has spent his entire life in the shadows. Naturally very quiet and withdrawn, this personality has only further alienated him from his classmates, and in his loneliness, he tried to cope with it all on his own.

A flashback in chapter ten shows young Miyamura looking sad and alone while his classmates whispered about him and ostracized him. This continued on through his middle school years, when he first pierced his ear using a safety pin, all the while thinking things like, “I don’t want to be a hindrance… School life is so hard… I really don’t know how to deal with these things…” Somewhere between then and his last year in high school, he’d also taken to tattooing the left side of his body.

He has come a long way from the quiet little boy that no one would talk to. Granted, he’s still quiet, still keeps to himself, and still has a habit of attracting gossip and whispers… but now he has actual friends. He has people that care enough about him to visit him when he’s sick, to call him by his first name, to recommend music and television shows to, and to automatically choose him for a groupmate in class. He might even, possibly, have someone he really likes…?!

Personality:
A guy who looks bland, but is very strong?!

The overall premise of Horimiya plays on the issue of duality. The two main characters each have a side to their personality that is hidden away from the rest of the world. For Miyamura, the side that only a select handful of people get to see differs greatly from the side that everyone tends to attribute to him. Very often (99.9% of the time), the first impression Miyamura makes ends with the other party walking away, muttering to themselves about the strange, creepy boy as if he weren’t just within earshot of them to hear it all. Now to be fair, it’s not difficult to make these assumptions about Miyamura. He is usually very quiet and withdrawn, curling into himself and into the shadows where he is more often left ignored and forgotten. Flashbacks to his childhood (as early as his elementary school years) show him as a very introverted child whose general appearance of “shadiness” (that is, his long hair, his gloomy/downcast expression) puts off many of his peers to the point where they will either forget he exists or scorn him for it. This trend continues on well into his high school years, where even as a senior he is still spoken about with a general air of wariness. Is he a creep or is he an otaku? He’s so quiet, and he looks so shady, and he never says anything to correct anybody, so he must be, right?

Wrong.

In actuality, Miyamura is a relatively kind and gentle soul whose consideration for other people and their feelings takes priority over his own. He is thoughtful enough to escort a young child home after finding him wandering around with a bloody nose, kind enough to cook and bake and continue to be a lingering presence in the child’s life after the child himself expresses a fondness for him, and considerate enough to insist on not being an inconvenience to the family despite it all. To his friends (even before he fully realized they were actually his friends), he is also a constant, comforting presence, ready to offer what help he can (which is admittedly rather limited). He’d even dash off right after school to get in line during a crazy grocery market sale just to get some eggs at the behest of a girl he’d only just met and started to get along with. (Shh, that’s a scary and traumatic experience, okay!!)

…that said, it’s sometimes the case that his attempts to avoid making someone feel bad usually deal with him saying something to make that person feel bad in the first place, aka that pesky foot-in-mouth disease.

Of course, Miyamura’s strength isn’t in just his heart. Physically, Miyamura has also proven to be fairly exceptional, to the point of being able to withstand a certain degree of pain (and cause it himself). Despite his slim physique and general air of fragility, he excels in physical education and health, and has been shown on numerous occasions to be quite physically fit. He is no weakling by a longshot, with an almost knee-jerk reaction to extreme violence when threatened, annoyed, or angry.

In truth, Miyamura is far from being plain and boring. Hidden away from most everyone else are a total of nine piercings and four large body tattoos. It is only when he is out of school, away from most of his peers that he “lets his hair down” (though not literally, since usually the opposite is the case), dressing in a way that suggests he has a wilder, if not more relaxed, personality.

Personality: Natural Airhead

Continuing on the subject of deceptive appearances, Miyamura has also been mistaken for being one of those quiet geniuses or “otakus”… purely because he’s so quiet and he wears glasses. On the contrary, Miyamura’s grades are “subtle” – that is, as average and inconspicuous as he is. When it comes to common sense and street smarts, Miyamura is pretty hopeless, too. He’s almost painfully gullible, readily accepting the ruse Ishikawa had hastily made up that Miyamura was experience “menstrual cramps” so he wouldn’t have to change out of his uniform in front of the other boys (and therefore exposing his tattoos). He believes in curses, can get scared pretty easily (at least, more easily than Hori), and has awful memory, able to forget something as significant as deciding to call a close friend by his first name (a less formal way of addressing someone that would imply a closeness) the day after it had just happened.

He has a pretty bad case of social awkwardness that can be attributed to the fact that for over 17-18 years of his life, he hadn’t actually had anyone. He’d spent most of his life in school ostracized by his peers, forcing him to keep to himself. He has a mother and a father that, for the most part, seem fairly uninvolved with his private life (though not to the point of neglect), so most of his time is spent actually spent helping his family’s bakery. It’s only very recently that his little world had begun to expand to include a few other people he could actually call his friends. In that, he’s slowly but surely learning to let people in, and let others see him for who he really is… and that who he really is, is okay.

You really are very weird.
Sor—
You’re weird… but I don’t hate that. Understand, Izumi?
That’s okay. That’s what I want to say to myself ten years ago.

That’s okay.

Abilities/Powers:
As a regular human, Miyamura possesses no actual supernatural or superhuman abilities. He is, however, athletic enough to the point of being able to sprint at a considerable speed and leap over a fence wall in one bound, and play ping pong for hours without getting tired.

He seems to also possess a strange immunity to pain when particularly angry. There were two instances in which he’d ignored and/or made no reaction to physical pain (in one, he’d rammed his forehead into another guy’s and in another, he was punched in the face and returned the attack thrice-fold) because he’d been “pissed” or “somewhat annoyed.” Given his history, it stands to reason that he can withstand some pain… However, it is interesting to note that this resilience seems to be purely situational and/or dependent on his mood. He hardly batted an eyelash when he’d headbutted the school council president, but when Hori flicked his forehead, he’d doubled over and trembled from the pain.

Items/Weapons:
→ A single, old safety pin… with still a few traces of dried blood on it.
→ His earring studs. (If all nine aren’t available, then they can take up the last remaining two item slots.)

Character Name: Gilbert Nightray
Canon: Pandora Hearts
Canon Point: Retrace 78
Background/History: The Pandora Hearts wiki and Gilbert's entry!

Personality: In a world defined by frequent and often violent changes, Gilbert Nightray is an unusual constant. This is humorous in retrospect, considering he's set up at the very beginning of the story to appear like a person that changes violently along with the world around him. After Oz disappears into the Abyss, he (and the reader) initially believe that a relatively short amount of time passes before his return, when ten years had passed in reality. When Oz returns to the surface world, the shy and clumsy servant that he had left behind is waiting for him, several feet taller and much colder, going by the alias Raven and not even revealing his identity of his own volition. When speaking to Oz directly after that reveal, Gilbert even goes so far as to say that he would hate the person that he has grown to be, that he isn't the same at all and there is no even ground left to stand on now that he's betrayed the Vessalius household — to which Oz replies that he can't see anything that has made Gilbert any less... well, Gilbert.

It's true that the current Gilbert is very different from his past self on the surface, however. During the ten year absence of his young master, he threw away the life, people and personality that he had known before, desperately following the thread of hope given to him by Xerxes Break and believing that in doing so, he would eventually be able to bring Oz back. He grew up very fast after that failed coming of age ceremony, and abandoning the Vessalius household to act as Break's "left eye" clearly drove into him a permanent lingering guilt, as he still avoids Oscar Vessalius ten years later and mentions this betrayal immediately when Oz discovers who he is. Being a part of the Nightray household in his earlier years and the Abyss-centered organization Pandora under his new alias, his youth was filled with daunting tasks and missions that left his hands bloodstained. The frosty and distant initial impressions that he tends to leave can be attributed in part to this upbringing. He grew to adapt well enough, however, even becoming something of a gun aficionado in the process. As the years passed, his blossoming temper paired terribly with this and resulted in someone with a tendency to be just a little too trigger-happy. Even then, this is just the tip of the iceberg that lies underneath Gilbert's (actually quite thin) stoic exterior.

While he may seem aloof and disinterested at first glance, the core of his personality is left largely unchanged, and that core is anything but. He's got a raucous temper and a tendency to react a little too quickly on an emotional level to just about everything. He's an anxious and nervous person by nature, stress and fretting coming more naturally to him than relaxation. He's quick to become flustered and easy to tease. His overblown fear of cats is almost extraordinary, his awkward inability to interact with crowds (and women) is hilariously unfitting for someone pinned as "a brooding, attractive gentleman" by most social circles, and his constant mother henning is enough to drive anyone up the wall. Sure, he's more likely to sputter and grow irritated with situations and people than he is to blush or scuttle away these days, but the truth is, not much has changed about what causes those reactions. Though the outermost layers have been shifted around and rearranged out of a need for self-preservation, what's intrinsic to him has remained relatively untouched.

Also intrinsic to Gilbert as a person is his deep sense of loyalty. Even before being given the mental charm that drives him to kill all enemies of his master (Oswald Baskerville at the time, and Oz Vessalius in the future), he had a natural inclination toward being overbearingly, ferociously protective. This is due in part to growing up on the streets with Vincent and having to constantly keep an eye on and watch out for him. Though the stress of this burden drove him to resentment and the brief consideration of abandonment, he feels a crushing guilt for it even being a thought, and his sense of loyalty and love for his little brother stay him every time. His purpose, as he sees it, is to protect those important to him, be it in big ways (trying to save Oz from the Abyss with his own hands, shoving people out of danger, grabbing hold of Alice before she falls in a landslide) or tiny, nitpicky ways (making sure Oz dresses well, preparing meals and snacks for everyone, etc). This fussing can surely get grating at times, but the loyalty and care underlying it is what, in the end, makes Gilbert an absolutely faithful and honest companion. It is also considered by some to be a great weakness of his, though Gilbert doesn't view it as such.

In fact, as far as weakness and being weak-willed goes, Gilbert is an easy target to make fun of. He can be pretty quick to cave, especially when requests (or bullying) from friends are involved. It's even something of an ongoing theme, from little potshots about his inability to quit smoking (eight tries and still counting!), to Vincent claiming that he's kept his knowledge of the past a secret because of Gilbert's weakness. Gilbert, however, has shown that he actually has quite a solid support beam tucked away under all of the withdrawn inclinations and emotional outbursts. For the majority of the series, his own crippling fear of remembering his past has held him back severely. He's even frightful at one point over the notion that Oz will move forward entirely without him one day, leaving his static self behind, but in an ironic twist he's the one who winds up taking the greatest strides forward after Jack's reveal.

Coming to terms with "Gilbert Baskerville" is where he truly begins, when all is said and done. His hands aren't at all clean, he's abandoned two households, abandoned Glen, and shied away from his only blood family. He's injured the person closest to him, and likely many more in his climb to reach the point he's at. He's made as many mistakes as a person can make, and while it would seem this is enough to crush his at times fragile sense of self, there's only one conclusion he draws from it. He's done terrible things, yes, but that's exactly what makes him who he is. There's no point in running away from what he's done or the emotions he's felt; he can only accept that these actions and decisions are a part of him and move on. This ability to keep pressing forward, while unhealthy in some hands, is a sign of his massive potential to grow in a positive direction — a direction he's already heading in fast.

Gilbert Nightray | Pandora Hearts | Not Reserved (2/2)

[personal profile] consacrer 2013-01-18 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Abilities/Powers:
Raven → Gilbert holds a contract with the Chain known as Raven and can summon it at will. Raven is capable of emitting massive bursts of blue fire that can even be damaging to the near-immortal Baskervilles. It has the ability to travel between dimensions (as seen in the escape from Cheshire's), though this thoroughly wears him out, and it also allows him to seal B-Rabbit's power to keep it from destroying Oz's body. As a black-winged Chain, it is capable of dragging people down to the darkest depths of the Abyss with the chains of condemnation, though this obviously won't come into play in Haven.
Immortality → As a Baskerville he also has partial immortality. While Baskervilles can age if not tied to a Chain, it takes a large amount of physical damage to kill them. Gilbert is shown surviving stab wounds and lethal poison, though other Baskervilles have shown that they can heal from things like impalement as well.
Items/Weapons: His pistol, a box of ammunition and a pack of cigarettes.

Sample Entry: voice test.
Sample Entry Two: The air in Haven can be crisp and enjoyable, as Gilbert has come to find. Greeting it in the morning with a cup of coffee and a cigarette (if he feels like denting his precious pack) is something he can actually look forward to, even if the city on a whole is something the jury is still out on. He's quiet to keep from disturbing any of his roommates when he leaves for the nearby staircase with drink in hand, only pausing to slip his jacket on.

Once outside, back to the door, he settles in for a few minutes. While pleasant, the moments that he keeps to himself in the morning aren't over-indulgent or dragged out. He has other obligations to fulfill, after all. Buckets of well water to draw, a young master to help with breakfast; even if Oz's arrival came before his own, he couldn't just allow himself to sit around feeling useless forever (or even a day). Sure, the accommodations are lacking, and the situation itself certainly takes some adapting to, but it's doable, and it isn't home. He knows that he will undoubtedly return to face the scenario he had left behind eventually, and that stays with him in the back of his mind every day. He also knows he has responsibilities and loose ends to tie up, and he has no qualms in doing just that.

But now, just for the moment, he's content to have a breath of peace. A break from the occasional chaos of Haven, and from the perpetual chaos of his own world. Not for himself, though he certainly appreciates it. He just appreciates it more for Oz. The rocky future left behind still sits poorly with him, but he knows that it affects that boy behind his protective smile just as strongly, if not more so.

He idly flicks his lighter, some busted piece of junk he had managed to salvage from the ruins with barely enough fluid left to light his dwindling cigarettes. Smoking, he decides, can wait for a little later in the day. For now, he leans down to pick up the bucket set beside the staircase and turns to set off for the well. The day ahead of him may be long, but he'll savor every minute of it.

Ja'far | Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic | Reserved

Nico's DW won't load so I'm sending for her!

Name: Nico
Contact Info: Plurk @ seibutt
Other Characters Played: None.
Preferred Apartment: 2.001

Character Name: Ja’far
Canon: Magi
Background/History: http://magi.wikia.com/wiki/Jafar

Personality:

At first glance, Ja’far would simply come off as a grumpy advisor whom spends most of his energy assuring that nothing is missed, or mishaps occur within king’s or generals’ workload. Which he is, without a doubt; but such is only one of the layers this man has to his personality.

Ja’far is a fairly reserved man and takes his role as a general of Sindria and Sinbad’s advisor seriously, and we see plenty of examples of this throughout the series. His duties may vary from simply assisting forcing Sinbad to finish his paper work to defending the city from dangerous sea monsters and fighting by his king’s side! (It’s certainly an eventful job.) One can only imagine the level of responsibility he has. Often he is a voice of reason and common sense to Sinbad, well, that is his job as advisor; he offers his opinion on Sinbad’s marriage arrangement to Kougyoku, showing his weariness and concern towards the princess’ (and Sindria’s) wellbeing in the long-term. Many a time do we see Ja'far scolding Sinbad, and even another general, on their behaviour, drinking too much, losing Metal Vessels and laying about with the city's harlots. Ja'far himself maintains a busy schedule of making sure that all runs smoothly for his king and company, though Sin does not always cooperate. Regardless, he is fiercely loyal to Sinbad and will even resort to violence when somebody badmouths him, as shown when Ja'far was willing to kill Cassim after defying his king.

He is regarded as quick-tempered and angry; he gets frustrated with most rather quickly, and on more serious terms, his soft demeanour can turn murderous without warning, we’ve seen this in two cases so far when facing danger with Cassim and Judal. In slightly less life-and-kingdom-threatening cases. he is usually just irritated by the careless attitude of Sinbad, bickering amongst the eight generals, or work not being done. Despite this, there is an impression left that he does hold a liking for Alibaba, Aladdin, and Morgiana, and has shown a degree of patience for them.

On various occasions, Ja'far doubts our main heroes, not because of their skill, but age; first, in Balbadd, Sinbad suggests that Aladdin helps with the apprehension of the Fog Troupe, but Ja'far protests this, that even though Aladdin is a Magi, he is still only a child. Then when Alibaba, Aladdin, Morgiana and Hakuryuu are sent to conquer a dungeon alone in Toran, Ja'far organises that their mentors are sent after them, just as a safety measure, which proves to save them from the Dark Metal Dijinn users that were close to defeating them.

Pretty much, he cares. (sometimes too much)

Caution is always practised with Ja’far; when visitors and strangers (particularly from rivalling empires, i.e Kougyouku, Hakuryuu, yeah) approach himself and this comrades. Ja'far has the trained mind of an assassin; he is sharp, always on the lookout, and portrays good skills with people to allow him to access information, which are also requited for his position as the parliamentary secretary. Despite his past as a child assassin, Ja'far is an educated man who is capable of managing paperwork for Sinbad, making him a rather literate and capable man.

Abilities/Powers:

Ja’far’s ability as an assassin has been remarked by Sinbad as ‘unique’ because of a particular skill he possesses (which we haven’t been informed of yet, sadly).

He is physically fit, as his occupation requires, and is capable of moving swiftly in battle and when travelling distances undetected. He uses a pair of blades as his primary weapons, they are stored up his sleeves and are attached to his arms by red wire we have seen wrapped around his arms; these also come to function as his Household Vessel. Ja’far uses the power of Sinbad’s Dijinn, Baal, who takes form as two electrical snakes that engulf the wire and ensnare the target once activated.

Other than his physical attributes and abilities as an assassin, Ja’far is a hard-working, intelligent and persistent in battle and the upkeep of his duty. (see: stubborn as hell)

Sample entry one:

[A strange thing this is—curious eyes cast over the camera, his head inclined slightly, now perhaps three inches or so from the camera’s lens. He presumes it is some sort of looking glass, initially, then perhaps a magical item observing him. Either way, it’s the only thing he has right now. It would only suit to ah.. Talk to it.]

This was not.. Planned not in the slightest. [Weary hues look back to glance over the bleak room once more, an exhausted sigh slipping through his lips.] Not a recognisable place in sight. I have no knowledge of my bearings. I believe I have been put in tight situations before but none such as puzzling as this.

[This composed, calm state he has forced himself into for so long is slipping away. These cold four walls were toying with him, tearing apart what demeanour he battled to uphold for so long.

You can’t pull a viper’s tail.

A moment’s silence passed. Two. A whisper broke the silence, breath hitching. ]

I won’t stand for this— I must find Sinbad.

Sample Entry Two:

[ Such a horrid day it was. Monsoon rains, violent winds, altogether with a large sum of work that Sin had all-too-generously left him behind. Today he would have liked to perhaps socialise with the other generals, train with Masrur, or sharpen his own skills, but now, he could only tackle what work Sin had deemed less important than slacking off with a harlot or five.

Sometimes this job just seemed so tedious.

Without a second thought, Ja'far seated himself the marble table with a number of scrolls sprawled out across the surface. Coal hues ran over it once-- Twice more. Such an amount, he'd be here all night. He knew it. Trading, war, Kou empire, Laem, Dijinn of all sorts after a few hours of this, fatigue played heavy on the adviser's eyelids. Working like this, constantly, certainly was not doing him any good, maybe a rest would
SLAM

In that moment, the silence of the room had been broken by the rather unnecessarily strong opening of the doors, and who was it that he first laid eyes on? A woman, scantly clad, and nestled along with another in his king's arms. Both purring and mewling for Sin's attention, they wriggled about, shamelessly, leaving Ja'far only to stare distantly at the rather proud ruler. This is going to be a long night. ]
